Aaron Mahnke
Hey folks, Aaron here. Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lore, a bonus episode that's designed to serve as a topical guide to the most recent episode of Lore. I've been hearing a lot from listeners that these Deeper Lore guides are super helpful, but if you're new or you haven't figured out their purpose yet, here's a quick breakdown. Basically, over the years I've learned that a lot of folks love to listen to old episodes on certain topics, and they'll hear a brand new one and it will spark an interest in finding other episodes that might be related. But with over 300 episodes to pick from, it can be challenging to track down the ones that you're looking for. So this bonus episode is designed to be our best attempt to give you all a brief guide for going deeper into this week's theme. Thus the name, Deeper Lore. This week for episode 274, Distant Relations, we headed overseas to China for an exploration of some of the most haunted places in Beijing. But of course, this isn't the first time that we've gone abroad in search of tales at the intersection of folklore and history. So here are three older episodes that will pair up nicely with this week's new one. First up, episode 117 Bones. It might be one of the most beautiful castles in the world, but Japan's Himeji Castle is also one of the most haunted. This particular episode does a great job of putting you in another land far, far away, while also showing you just how similar our folklore really can be I highly recommend it. Next download episode 141 Stains Paris might be the city of lights, but after listening to this classic episode, I think you'll agree that it's also a city of shadows. I think that you'll enjoy a re listen to this one if you've never heard it before, and if not, jump right in and give it a try. And finally go give episode 165 on the line a listen. For this one we jump over to the Channel Islands, a small group of islands between England and France. It might be a tiny, out of the way place that most people will never visit, but it's absolutely full of incredible folklore, so be sure to check it out. Oh, and before we go, one other thing that's semi related. Lore is coming up on its 10 year anniversary and one of the ways that we're celebrating around Lore HQ here is with a couple of new T shirt designs. I partnered up with an amazing tattoo artist named Dane Stevenson, otherwise known as Tattoos by Pony on Instagram, and he put together two amazing designs that we've turned into T shirts, bags, mugs, you name it. Things that are available over@lorepodcast.com do check them out. There are some variations that will only be around through this 10 year anniversary celebration and then we'll quietly put them away. So if you want them, you might want to grab them now. So there you go folks. Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past. Episodes 117, 141 and 165 are waiting for you in this podcast feed. You can just scroll through your app to find them, or you can tap on their direct links in the description for this bonus episode. And until next time, stay spooky.
