What if I told you that right now millions of people are living with a debilitating condition that's so misunderstood, many of them don't even know that they have it. That condition is Obsessive compulsive disorder, or OCD. I'm Dr. Patrick McGrath, the chief clinical officer of NOCD, and in the 25 years I've been treating OCD, I've met so many people who are suffering from the condition in silence, unaware of just what it was. OCD can create overwhelming anxiety and fear around what you value most, make you question your identity, beliefs and morals, and drive you to perform mentally and physically draining compulsions or rituals. Over my career, I've seen just how devastating OCD can be when it's left untreated. But help is available. That's where NOCD comes in. NOCD is the world's largest virtual therapy provider for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Our licensed therapists are trained in Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy, a specialized treatment proven to be incredibly effective for OCD. Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lore, a bonus episode that is designed to serve as a topical guide to the most recent episode of Lore. As I've said before, my team and I have made well over 300 episodes of this podcast over the past decade. So it can be frustrating when you hear a new episode and have this spark of memory of a similar topic from a while ago, but you can't track it down. And that's where Deeper Lore comes in. The goal here is to quickly point you in the direction of some older related episodes so that you can keep this week's topic alive a little longer and, you know, go deeper into the lore. Thus, Deeper Lore. This week, for episode 278, Bad for Business, we look at the many ways the business world has collided with the supernatural. Think Ghostbusters, but with real historical characters and events. Honestly, this one was so fun to put together. But of course, it's not the first time that we've discussed people in the past who made money off of the paranormal. So here are three older episodes that should pair up nicely with this week's new one. First up, episode eight, the Castle. Yes, this one is about the legendary serial killer H.H. holmes, and yes, most people have heard of him. But don't forget that at the heart of all his nefarious activity was a long running get rich quick scheme involving insurance fraud. And after you've re listened to this early classic, jump over to episode 63, Homecoming, because that's part two of Holmes tale, and as a result, earning a quick buck plays a central role in that episode as well. Next download episode 111, Inside Job. This classic is partly about a woman named Lucy, partly about sleeping psychics, and mostly about how people turned that sort of activity into a way of earning a living. And yes, it's as wild and creepy as it sounds. And finally, there's episode 215, Mind Over Matter Sometimes money wasn't enough for a few people, the paranormal was a pathway to fame. This episode explores a few of the characters within the world of spiritualism who use their supposed powers to transform something more valuable than their bank account. Their reputation and there you go. Follow up this week's brand new episode with the trip into the past. Episodes 8111 and 215 are waiting for you in this podcast feed. You can just scroll down through the app to find them, or you can tap on their direct links in the description for this episode. And until next time, stay spooky Cascade.
