Hey folks, Aaron here. Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lore, a bonus episode designed to serve as a topical guide to the most recent episode of Lore. In this short bonus episode, I'm going to dig into our vast 10 year archive and point out some old episodes that fit well with this week's newest. The hope is that you can keep this spooky feeling going well into the weekend, putting a handful of old episodes into a new, more powerful context. So let's get started, shall we? This week for episode 298, Almost Alive, we examine the fascinating and deeply creepy world of automaton. This is one of those episodes that didn't sound lore like when the team first pitched it to me, but the more I dove into it, the more I realized just how perfect it was. People creating people like machines to do people like things. What could be more human of us and what could go wrong, right? But it's not the first time we've discussed crafting human like friends. So here are three older episodes that will pair up nicely with this week's new one. First up, episode 25, the Cave. We've talked about this episode before. It's a classic witch story, but set in a very different location, an island off the coast of Chile. But what those witches did to human beings is very relevant to our topic today. So do check it out. Next, episode 88, Crossing the Line. Some episodes are favorites because they ask big questions or they fill in common gaps in her understanding of something. This one is a fan favorite though, because it's just so dang creepy. In it we see one man's love for a woman cause him to cross a very big line, one that even death could not prevent. Give it a listen if you dare. And finally, there's episode 134, Disturbing the Peace. Now on the surface, this one is about the Doctor's Riot of 1788 and a bit of grave robbing. But the fear and panic experienced by the community is ultimately rooted in a very dark what on earth are those doctors doing when with the body parts of our loved ones? The answer, of course, is all part of the story. So there you go. Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past. Episodes 25, 88 and 134 are waiting for you in this podcast feed. You can just scroll through your app to find them, or you can tap on their direct links in the description for this episode. And until next time, stay spooky.
