Not every sale happens at the register. Before AT&T business Wireless checking out customers on our mobile POS systems took too long. Basically a staring contest where everyone loses. It's crazy what people will say during an awkward silence. Now transactions are done before the silence takes hold. That means I can focus on the task at hand and make an extra sale or two. Sometimes I do miss the bonding time.

Hey folks, Aaron here. Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lore, a bonus episode that's designed to serve as a topical guide to the most recent episode of Lore. In this short bonus episode, I'm going to dig into Our archive of 11 years of topics and point out some old episodes that fit well with this week's newest. The hope is that you can keep the spooky feeling going well into the weekend, putting a handful of old episodes into a new, more powerful context. So let's get started, shall we? This week for episode 305, Botched, we examine the horrifying history of capital punishment in America and how various methods of execution led to accidents that have embedded themselves into our collective folklore. But it's not the first time we've discussed stories from the world of crime and punishment, so here are three older episodes that should pair up nicely with this week's new one. First up, episode 42 in the Bag. This was our very first prison episode, focusing on the history, failings and ghostly echoes of Eastern State Penitentiary. Resembling a Gothic castle from the outside, this prison delivered some pretty dark events that have left their mark. Do check it out next. Download episode 106, the collection this episode takes us on a trip to Moundsville Penitentiary in West Virginia, home to a whole mess of tragedy and folklore. It's chilling, but definitely worth a re listen. And finally, there's episode 180, above the Law. Now, admittedly, this one is a bit of a left turn. Rather than exploring prisoners, it unpacks the strange, dark world of hero outlaws. These were people who were criminals for sure, but the dent they left on the universe has a different sort of shape. It's one of my favorites. And there you go. Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past. Episodes 42, 106 and and 180 are waiting for you in this podcast feed. You can just scroll through your app to find them, or you can tap on their direct links in the description to this episode. And until next time, stay spooky.

Lore Podcast – Deeper Lore: 305 (42, 106, & 180) – Episode Summary
Host: Aaron Mahnke
Date: May 7, 2026
In this special bonus “Deeper Lore” episode, Aaron Mahnke curates a thematic exploration inspired by Lore’s latest main episode, "305: Botched," which delved into the gruesome and haunting history of capital punishment in America. Aaron uses this episode to connect listeners with three previous episodes that offer additional context and spine-chilling stories related to crime, punishment, and the strange legacies they leave behind. The goal: to give listeners a roadmap to keep their fascination with dark history going well into the weekend.
Building on “305: Botched” (about America’s execution history), Aaron highlights three older episodes:
Episode 42: "In the Bag"
Episode 106: "The Collection"
Episode 180: "Above the Law"
On the purpose of Deeper Lore:
“In this short bonus episode, I’m going to dig into our archive of 11 years of topics and point out some old episodes that fit well with this week’s newest.” (Aaron, 00:36)
On the impact of prison history:
“This prison delivered some pretty dark events that have left their mark.” (Aaron, 01:19)
On hero outlaws:
“These were people who were criminals for sure, but the dent they left on the universe has a different sort of shape.” (Aaron, 01:53)
This bonus Deeper Lore episode is a compact, atmospheric guide from Aaron Mahnke, designed to extend the eerie mood set by episode 305, “Botched.” By recommending episodes centered around infamous prisons and legendary outlaws, Aaron stitches together a thematic thread centered on American crime, punishment, and folklore. Listeners are left with both clear direction and a tantalizing invitation to explore some of Lore’s creepiest historical rabbit holes—all while “staying spooky.”
