No matter how sophisticated our choices, how good we are at dominating the odds, randomness will have the last word. Nassim Taleb in his book Fooled by Randomness, Nassim Taleb says that chance occurrences and randomness in life are inevitabilities. And you can't stop randomness. You can only attempt to prepare for it. And I think for creators, those perfectly focused and productive days, those are the exception, not the rule. Those are very rare. If you finish a day and you're like, wow, today was super focused, super productive, and everything went according to plan, those are the exception, not the rule. So how can we prevent randomness from bullying us around? How can we prevent distractions, interruptions from stopping us doing what we're trying to do and achieving what we're trying to achieve? And Taleb says the antidote to randomness is to become antifragile. So what is being antifragile mean? Essentially, his definition is things that gain from disorder are antifragile. So if you have a really complex system or if you're kind of teetering on the edge in your life in any way, shape or form, then any sort of randomness can come in and completely shatter your life in a lot of ways. Or it can completely disrupt your life because you're unprepared and you are very fragile. To be antifragile means that you are taking actions that benefit from stress. I think the the best example of this is exercise. So if you exercise, that is taking an antifragile action for yourself because your body is benefiting from stress, it's benefiting from stressors. And the more stress you put your body through in quality exercise, the stronger you become. That is what it means to be antifragile. So today, what is an area that is vulnerable to disruption in your life? What is an area that you feel like isn't very strong or that might be teetering? How can you take an action to make it antifragile?
