In today's episode, the focus is on the choice we have when things don't go as we had planned. Let's face it, as moms, this can happen often, with our kids frequently shifting our schedules unknowingly. On a bigger scale, maybe you planned for a different life. Whatever it is, you have a choice. You can sit in the negative emotions and allow them to take over your life and relationships, or you can acknowledge that it sucks and accept where you're at now. Accepting where you're at empowers you to move forward. Regardless of the situation, accepting what's out of your control and choosing how to show up supports you in building resilience. This muscle can help you move forward in other situations that don't go your way. In today's episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Gesia Barra Cordeiro, a fellow coach and friend. Geisa is a communicator and leadership coach, and a happily married mom of two. After becoming a mother, Geisa realized that the first connection we need to build is with ourselves. This sent her on a quest to discover her feminine nature that resides in all of us, together with our masculine energy. Learning to balance the two has significantly impacted Geisa's personal and professional life. In the show, she shares her main strategies to help moms connect to the true essence within. We are a part of nature, turning inwards, showing ourselves and others compassion, and forgiving ourselves are essential to create this balance. Key TopicsWhat are feminine and masculine energies? In today's episode, I discuss a topic that has taken over my life for many years—perfectionism. It came up during a coaching session I had with a new coach. She asked me, "What would it be like to take the risk and dare to show up as yourself, to the fullest of who you are?" This got me thinking about how perfectionism impacted my life for so many years and how I want to show up now. Perfectionism is sometimes confused with striving to do your best, but, in reality, it has nothing to do with doing your best. It's about trying to control the uncontrollable. It's filled with self-criticism, unachievable standards, overthinking, fear of judgment from others, and much more. One of the solutions to perfectionism is the buzzword authenticity – being who you truly are. Moving from perfectionism to being authentic is not something you can do overnight. But you can learn to do it by starting small, setting boundaries and getting to know yourself. In the show, I share strategies on how to do just that. At the end of the show, I leave you with a dare. A dare similar to the one I was asked, but this one's from me to you. Key TopicsWhat is perfectionism? (04:41)The massive benefits of showing up as yourself. Spoiler, you save time and energy, and create a safe space for others to show up as themselves. (10:54)Strategies to start being more authentic today. (14:52)The dare. In today's show, we dig into sleep deprivation and the impact this can have on your mental and physical well-being. The long-term effects are shocking. I've been experiencing some of the short-term effects of chronic sleep deprivation, and it's not pretty. This is why I wanted to bring awareness to such an important topic. During the episode, I talk about different sleep patterns, called your chronotype and how, if you're a night owl like me, society and children have us working against our evolutionary design. I share some of the work by Dr. Michael Breus, a Clinical Psychologist. His theory is that there are four chronotypes: lion, bear, wolf and dolphin. Being aware of your chronotype could help you get the quality sleep you need. At no point am I offering medical advice. This is purely to bring awareness to the importance of consistent and quality sleep. Key TopicsWe all have a chronotype that determines our natural sleep rhythm. (06:53)Why there are different types of sleep patterns. (10:30)What happens to your mind and body when you don't get enough sleep? (13:40)Focus on what you can control and let go of the rest.
