So this valad. So you just came to the United States yesterday?
B
Two days ago. Two days ago. Yes. Wow.
A
How has it been so far?
B
It has been great. I have been to a dress boutique store and found two dresses that will add to my Miss Universe wardrobe. So I'm so excited about that. I love the weather here. It's. It's hot, but it's not like so hot. But I like the warmth here because it's kind of cold in Iceland right now though.
A
Oh my gosh. Already? Do you guys have like summers? Like, does it ever get like hot like here?
B
No, never. Like there's always some kind of wind and always some kind of cold. It's never this hot. And this is. This is cold here, right? Yeah, Yeah, I kept. Yeah, I can understand that.
A
I mean, there's a hurricane happening right now. How did you feel flying in with the hurricane?
B
So it was. Yeah, it was kind of scary because there were some shaking in the plane. Yeah. But only, only for like a couple of minutes. But I slept through the most of the flight so it was okay. Yes.
A
I'm like crazy when there's like bumps in the plane. I'm like, it like rocks me to sleep. It's relaxing for me. What's wrong with me?
B
Oh yeah, what's wrong? No, I think it's a little bit scary. But you have to think like, it's just like driving in a car, like a little speedball. Yeah. Yeah. I just. I always imagine that to calm me down. So.
A
So I think you got crowned like a month. A little over a month ago, right?
B
Yes. So the competition was 14th of August.
A
Okay.
B
August 14th.
A
Wow.
B
Yes. So I have had an amazing time this past month. And the next month is going to be much more preparation and it's a full time job. But I'm really excited.
A
It's more than a full time. I feel like today. How is today really long?
B
This has been a really long day. But I feel great. I had such a fun time. It was so fun to do this photo shoot.
A
We're not done yet?
B
No, we're not done yet. I'm all for it. I love it.
A
I'm so excited. So you have your national costume done. Do you have your gown ready for Miss Universe?
B
No. So I am going to West Virginia tomorrow and going to all of Oliveirios boutique, and there I'm going to find my competition dress.
A
What's, like, your top three colors that you want to wear?
B
I don't have top three. I only. Okay, maybe top two. I want, like. Maybe, like, white, beige, like. Or red. I really want red color. Yes. I want to, like, go a little bit, like, out of the comfort zone, because I was in blue, but I'm taking all the Icelandic colors, I think.
A
Yeah. Because there's red and the Icelandic flag and the white and. Yeah, no more pink, right after today.
B
No more. I'm done.
A
Today we were shooting for a lady code with the code creatives, and every single look was, like, pink. And then she brought a pink gown.
B
Yes.
A
And you almost were pink for the podcast, too.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
That dress was so pretty. But I love what you picked out.
B
Yeah, I love this too. So pretty. Yes.
A
So we were talking a little bit in the makeup chair, and you told me that you love sports and you think that it helps mental health, which I agree with. So tell me more about that.
B
So when I was little, I went through a lot of trauma, and the place where I found myself was, like, in gymnastics or when I started soccer. I always. I always felt like a relief and some peace when I was on the football field. But I'm sorry. Football, Soccer? Yeah, I learned British English, so sorry. But, yeah, and sports are so expensive, and I think it's so important for children to play sports, and not every parent can afford that. So I want to focus on helping children to exercise without, like, resources trying to help them, because. Yeah, like, local to Iceland.
A
Do you feel like there's a lot of families in Iceland that can't afford.
B
Yeah, it's. Yeah, it's much in Iceland. And he's, like, working with kids that have been dealing with mental health and, like, try to help when. Help them find themselves in exercising. So that has been. Yeah, it's getting bigger and bigger in Iceland, so. And I also. Yeah, I can relate to that. So that was. Really matters to me.
A
So I love that. And it's helped you so much, and you've grown so much to the point where you won Miss Universe Iceland, which is such an accomplishment. Do a lot of people in Iceland struggle with mental health?
B
I think so, because It's. It is such an isolated country and it's like. I think it's like, it's so expensive and it's. It's not good weather and dark and it's some. And it's sometimes hard, like, for some people in the winter, you get like, winter depression or something. Oh, yeah, it's. Yeah. I think it's a problem in Iceland because I know a lot of people with depression in Iceland and it's pretty common. And I think it's so sad because. Yeah. Yeah.
A
I mean, I really appreciate you bringing awareness to this, especially on, like, my podcast, because, you know, we go to Iceland and we see, like, the beautiful country and everybody seems so happy, but, like, you never think about how important that is. And so for you, even being here, bringing up mental health and, you know, wearing this sash and crown and raising awareness for mental health is so important. So go you. You're amazing.
B
I, like, I've to. I've seen some stuff, like, from other countries that are happier countries. I don't remember, but that are the countries that are exercising and are biking to work. And like, I think that exercising really helps you. You don't have to, like, exercise every day, but it gets your mind in the right place.
A
Even like going outside for a walk.
B
Yes. You can just. You can exercise in so many ways. You just have to find the right. Right for you. So you can. Yeah.
A
What's your favorite?
B
Okay, so I really like soccer. It's really my favorite thing in the whole world. And sometimes I. I know a little gymnastics still, but I really like dancing too. It's a really fun exercise to just go to a dancing class or something. You get so much out of it. So. Yeah. And you just get so happy.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. Yes.
A
And you get in shape. Like, it's like there's so many benefits to that. I love it. Yeah. So what made you want to compete for Miss Universe? Iceland?
B
So I have been watching the competition for some time and I. I looked up to many of the women that were competing and like arnair that won 2015, I just loved. She stood up for herself when they were commenting on something that were unrealistic on her appearance on something. And she stood up for herself and talked about it, like in Iceland. And I think it's just so much more than just how you look. It's just. It's who you are and who you are as a person and you want to make a good difference. And I have been, since I was little, I've always been, like, kind of lost. And I was like, I want to have some big difference on this world because I have. I have good insight on what I want to bring to the world. And I thought. I thought this was a good platform to begin with. And to begin with. Yeah. No, I want people end. No, I want to go farther because I'm still so young. So I want to. I want to make something big in the future. But this is a really good experience to help get my word out and.
A
Yes, definitely. Oh, my gosh. I mean, you're only 18 years old. I think you're one of the youngest women competing at Miss Universe, right?
B
Yeah, I. I think I'm the youngest. I don't know. I think when I was crowned, I was youngest, but maybe there has been other younger than me.
A
But how do you feel being the youngest going to Miss Universe?
B
I just. Many people think it's like, kind of like, look down on me or something, but I deserve it as much as all the other women. I think it's just uplifting because I want to show that age doesn't define capability. And you can do whatever you want even though you're young or older. Like, you can get to a place you want to be. You just have to take the first step.
A
I love it.
B
Yeah.
A
So after Miss Universe, we're gonna manifest that you win the whole thing. What's next for you after that?
B
That's a big question. I just want to get to know other cultures. Like, I love how they travel and make. I want to speak to children all around the world and just because. And open minds that I want to inspire children to find themselves. And no matter how hard times it gets, like, children, like, find themselves so lost. I really want to help children in the way that my therapist helped me. And many children don't, like, have therapists and can't afford that. So I want to get my word out to children. I don't want to help them just to. Yeah. Go to schools and hospitals. I just want to. Yeah. Meet. I love that.
A
Yeah. And travel the world. I know, like, the current Miss Universe, Janice, is so busy, like, every day she's in a different country. She's so busy. And, yes, it's really crazy. And I know you've experienced a lot of that after you got crowned. So how are you balancing, like, your mental health with all the craziness that comes with being a title holder?
B
I'm just trying to think that everything happens for a reason, and I just try to do my best, and that's just the best That I can do.
A
You're doing more than amazing. Even today. You know, it was a really long day. We're still here. It's like almost midnight and we're still shooting. We still have more to go.
B
It's just a good practice for the competition. Yes.
A
Yeah. And for being Miss Universe, too, because she will have her long days and appearances, photo shoots, all the things. And the interviews, too.
B
Yeah.
A
Wow. So how is. What's like a couple things that you still have to do to prepare for Miss Universe coming up in a month?
B
I need to practice my routine and everything. I still. I have been. I have a little routine, but the stage is. Is an infinity mark. So I have. Yeah, it's. I love the stage. I have to, like, find out how I'm going to work with all of the possibilities.
A
Wow.
B
And. Yeah. And just. Yeah. This whole trip, the USA trip, I'm going to find more dresses and all the wardrobe. So excited.
A
Oh, my gosh. Wow. And how is Manuela as your director? Is it amazing working with her? Because she's been to Miss Universe before, so she knows all the roads.
B
Yes. So she's been very, very helpful. And I think she's such an inspirational woman. And it's. I think it's really good to work with her because she's amazing and, you know, it.
A
Probably.
B
Yes.
A
Yeah. And I love supporting women in leadership, and I feel like even in pageantry, sometimes it's male dominated. Like, a lot of directors are men, a lot of makeup artists are men. Designers, stylists, you know, so it's good to support the women in pageantry as well. So, like, seeing Manuela being such a great leader is, like, very inspirational for me, too.
B
Yeah, exactly.
A
Yeah. I love that. So what's your favorite part about competing? Is it interviews on stage, question or gown?
B
I want to say the judges interview, because that's the chance where I get to talk to them and get to get. Help them to really get to know me. That's my time to show them who I am, that you can't see that on stage. So I'm. Yeah, I'm really excited about that.
A
I know. And they say that you win an interview, so that's like, your chance to win. Right. Everything's on the line right there. Do you have any advice for younger children that might be going through a hard time? Like, what is your message to them right now?
B
So I just want to say that I don't give up. It will get better. We're still young, and when we get older, you will Find your path, and you will find the right path to finding yourself. So don't give up, because it will be okay. I. Yeah. I got to really know that time is key. So.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
A
Wow. That's so inspirational. It's just so amazing to see you here. What is like your five year plan? Like, where do you see yourself five years from now?
B
I see myself. I think I will be studying. I want to go. I'm still finishing. I have one year left in high school. I want to go to college. I want to educate myself. I want to learn the pilot. I want to.
A
Oh, yeah, you want to be a pilot.
B
Yeah, I want to learn to be a pilot. I want to go to school to go.
A
Right.
B
Yeah. I want to go to Sweden and. Because I think they have a really good system there for. To learn. Yes. So, yeah. And learn business. I have many. I have many dreams. I'm still trying to figure out how to puzzle it together, but I want many things. There's not one thing that I'm just. I want to be everything.
A
And you can.
B
Yeah, you can be everything that you want to.
A
Definitely. I always just go where God takes me.
B
Me.
A
And I'm like, you know, if the door opens, I'm not going to say no. And like, any opportunity that I have and it's brought me here and I'm so grateful. And I've just never been like, I want to be a lawyer, because that's all I wanted to be.
B
Yeah.
A
But I was just open minded. And opportunities came a lot through pageants. And now I'm like, this is where I am.
B
Yeah. It all sl. It all leads to us.
A
Yeah. You always end up where you're supposed to be. Exactly. I love that. Is there anything else you want to share with our audience?
B
So I just want to say something. I want people to stop thinking about what others think of you, because I once did that, and that did not help me grow. And when you get out of your comfort zone, you grow as a person and you just have to block out all the negativity. And that is just so important to. Oh, yeah, yeah. To find yourself. So, like, just don't be in bad company. Don't, like, try to block out negative friends and stay with the people who you love and, you know, who love you, because that is how you can find your right path to happiness.
A
That's so true. And actually, speaking of the right people, you have a sister queen that's traveling everywhere with you. Right, Amelia? What is that like having somebody with you the whole time?
B
Oh, it's. It's really nice because, like, we are experience. Experiencing this all together, and it's so fun because I think, like, there has. We have never had that. Miss Universe Iceland and Miss Super National Iceland had gone together. But we're such good friends, and we're just. We're travel besties. It's like, oh, my gosh.
A
And I feel like I'm in the friend group now after spending all day together.
B
Yes.
A
It's so fun. I'm so glad you get to do that.
B
Yes.
A
Yeah. So when does she go to compete?
B
She. Oh, it's not. We don't have a day. They don't have a date yet, but it's next summer and it's always held in Poland. Yeah. Wow. But, yeah, she's. She's starting to preparing herself now. She has a lot of time.
A
She has so much time. You only have two months. You're, like, scrambling.
B
You're like, I need a gown. It's a whole lot of chaos. But yes.
A
Oh, my gosh. Is she coming to support you in Mexico?
B
I don't know.
A
Maybe It's a long trip.
B
It's a long trip and she's still in school, so maybe. I don't know, because the finals are like. That's why I'm taking a break from school. Because the finals. We were in the same school and the finals are in, like, the time that I'm competing, so I don't know.
A
Oh, but it's gonna be worth it. Yeah.
B
But I will have a group at home watching me on tv.
A
Honestly, the best view is watching on tv because the cameras are all in there.
B
Exactly. Yeah.
A
Love that. So we're gonna wrap up with a this or that. So I'm gonna this or that. And you just tell me which one and you can elaborate if you want to.
B
Yes.
A
Okay. So the first one is reels or TikTok.
B
I think I'm more in reels right now. They're so funny.
A
They're so funny.
B
Yeah. It's so weird there, but I love it so much.
A
Do you have the one friend where you send all the funny reels to?
B
I don't think she opens it anymore. Yeah, I understand it.
A
That's so funny. So the trends on, like, Tick Tock was like mob wife and clean girl. Which one do you like more?
B
Mop. I don't.
A
You could do both, but I see you as a clean girl.
B
Yeah, I'm. I'm more of a. Yeah, I think I'm more of a clean girl. Yes.
A
Shopping Online or in person?
B
Oh, okay. I like. Okay, maybe that's just. Yeah. Just shopping. But I really like shopping online and get the surprise. But. Oh, this looks better than I thought. Like, I think it's so fun to get the package. Just. Oh, I got a package. Yes. Even though you spend it on yourself.
A
Yeah.
B
But, yeah, shopping in person is also fun, too.
A
Yeah. So just shopping.
B
That's the right answer. Just shopping.
A
Yes. Hair or makeup?
B
Oh, okay. Nothing beats a good hair day.
A
Yeah.
B
Like when you have a good hair day, you can be like, just a little bit. Yeah. So. But makeup, too. No, I'm going to say hair.
A
Hair.
B
Yeah, I think so.
A
Yeah. Because a bad hair day, it doesn't matter how good your makeup is. No, the hair is everything.
B
Yeah.
A
Platform heels or sandal heels.
B
At the moment. Platform heels.
A
Yeah. You're wearing this universe.
B
Yeah, I know.
A
Even today you're shooting in your platform.
B
I think we're so comfortable. I thought we were so uncomfortable first, but I'm. Yeah, you get used to it. I walk in it all the time and I. I live in them right now, so they're platforming.
A
Can I tell them about what they look like?
B
Yes. Oh, please.
A
They have, like, the foam pads, like at the bot. So that they're comfortable. I need to get those, though.
B
Yeah. Oh, they're really much used. Oh, my gosh.
A
The next one. Okay. So you've traveled everywhere. Do you like the Europe or USA better?
B
I like. I love Europe. I love the nature. I love the food. I love the different cultures and different. But in the usa, it's just like a whole another world for me. Yeah.
A
That's how I feel about Iceland.
B
Yeah. I don't know. I just. I really love going to the United States because it's like a living. I really want to live the high school dream. Yeah. The prom and everything, so. But I will. I will never get to. No.
A
Well, today you had a little bit of a sleepover and prom, you know, that was. That we did.
B
Yes.
A
The next question is steak or sushi?
B
Oh, okay. Sushi. I'm going to say sushi. Yes. I love sushi. It's the best. I could eat it all every day. But not steak. But I love steak, though.
A
Oh, good.
B
Yeah.
A
Road trip or fly?
B
I'm going to say road trip because road tripping around Iceland, it's. I love it.
A
So pretty.
B
I. I've done it so many times, but I never get enough.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
A
And it's like, you can just keep driving and driving and you don't Even know how much time has gone by and the sun doesn't go down. So you really don't know.
B
Exactly.
A
Photo shoot or fashion show?
B
Oh, okay. Oh, it's like. It's kind of a mix of both. I don't know. I can't choose that one. I love it. Both.
A
Yeah, you have to pick.
B
Okay, I'm going. I'm gonna say fashion show. Yeah, it's. It's the energy. Yeah, the energy and the walk and having people watching and everything. I love the glam.
A
Crown or sash?
B
Crown.
A
Your crown is so pretty.
B
I love my crown. I love the blue in it. It has like. It's just. It's such an Icelandic crown. It is so Icelandic.
A
It's a glacier.
B
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly.
A
So pretty. The last question is swimsuit or gown?
B
Gown.
A
Yes.
B
Yeah, she's a pageant girl. I could not see.
A
I can't wait to see your gown. And it's going to be iconic.
B
Yeah. I'm so excited.
A
Are you going to do two different gowns, like for prelim and finals? Oh, that's a secret.
B
I. I don't know. Maybe you.
A
You.
B
You'll have to find out.
A
Love that.
B
Yes.
A
So where can we follow you on social media?
B
On Instagram, my. You can follow Miss Iceland. Org, which is my organization, and Sultis Ev. Yeah, you can. You can see it in the bio. It'll be tagged in the bio. It will be tagged in the bio. Yes. But we're also a little bit on TikTok and I think it's the same name on Instagram as.
A
Oh, awesome.
B
Yeah. So we're trying to, like, get a little bit tick tock energy.
A
I love it. Manuela is not a regular director. She's a cool director.
B
Yeah, she's a cool director. Yes.
A
I love that. Well, thank you so much for coming on. I have so much fun. Thank you so much for having you.
B
Me too. I had so much fun today. Thank you for all this glam and this beautiful hair.
A
It's still holding up.
B
It's still holding up after like 10 hours. Exactly. And my makeup is still flawless. I don't know.
A
I feel like it keeps looking better as you wear it.
B
Exactly.
A
It's that powder.
B
Yeah, it's a powder. I don't know how you do it. You do you have some magic. Magic powder, magic hands, magic brushes, magic everything.
A
Thank you. Well, thank you guys for tuning in. Make sure you follow all of us and we'll see you guys next time. Time.
B
Thank you.
