Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Hello folks. It's a real pleasure to have you with us here tonight. And I have a good one lined up for you, especially if you're a fan of faceless entities, metallic orbs, black eyed adults and misty white ghosts. But it's with strange animals that we begin here tonight. Please welcome Christian from the state of Arizona.
Christian
Hi Derek. This is Kristen from Arizona. I'd like to call this story Ghost Fish. Now I know when you hear that it sounds like I drank too many beers out on the lake. But this happened to me when I believe I was nine. I was quite young and I was going on a fishing trip with my grandfather to Lake Powell, big old lake. And we went to an area of Powell, I believe it was called Black Antelope Canyon. It was a. Well exactly that. It was a canyon that the water had run through large red rocks on either side. And it was pretty narrow even for our boat. So nine year old me decided to, you know, jump off the side of the boat onto the rocks to mess around and play a bit. You know, I was nine, I got distracted easily and he decided to pull the boat up around the bend of the canyon and I yelled at him in protest because, you know, I'm not, you know, I'm afraid of the dark at that point and I didn't like being alone. And the water was really deep, pitch black, dark green lake water. So he pulls around the bend and he assures me that he's just gonna go try a few spots further down the canyon and he'll come pick me up in like five minutes. So I'm sitting there on the rocks, I start to freak out a little bit because, you know, like I said, I'm not, I don't like to be alone. And you know, the canyon's rather narrow, I'd want to say maybe 50ft wide at this point. And I'm sitting there and stressed out and I'm looking down at the water and you know, you can't see anything, it's dark. And I swear on you, I swear that these two fish came up just below the surface of the water. I've been fishing quite a bit, especially on Pal and I didn't recognize either fish. They almost looked like catfish. But they had characteristics of carp too. I wanted to describe them as koi, but there are no koi in this lake. I don't think they could survive. I mean carp do, but carp look pretty different than the koi. And one of Them was real pale, almost white, and the other was pitch black. And I'll swear on this till the day I die. I saw these two fish come up just beneath the surface of the water. The fish are about average size, I want to say maybe 2ft long, foot and a half. And they start to circle around each other like they're chasing each other's tails just really slowly. And I'm sitting there like mesmerized because, you know, this is really unusual. Even 9 year old me was realizing something was strange. And I just watched them do maybe like 10, 11 rotations before really slowly, still spinning, they begin to just sink back into the dark green water. And I have no idea what to make of it. I've talked to quite a few people about this. I've never heard anything like this. As far as fish behavior goes, I just don't see a reason for natural fish to be doing this. Like if he had left some bread on the surface of the water or something, you know, I could see fish coming up the feed, but these, there was nothing in the water, it was just still. And these fish just came up and circled each other's tails over and over again. And like I said, they were kind of strange fish. One was completely white and one was pitch black. And they kind of looked like toy fish. They had whiskers and they weren't catfish. I know that I've seen hundreds of catfish. These weren't them. So I don't know what to make of it. If anybody's had anything similar, I'd like to hear something because nine year old me wasn't drinking beers on the lake Anyways, all over the podcast, keep it up. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Christian. Well, let's start with the most likely and work our way back. I do love a good animal mystery. So for starters, there could be koi in Lake Powell. We found a few examples of koi and goldfish being caught in other waterways there in Arizona. So we have to imagine that they likely could live in Lake Powell as well. All it really takes is a few people letting their pets loose. And the koi fish is actually a type of carp, so they are well suited for that area, believe it or not. So I'd say it's very much possible. Now let's pretend for a hot second that it was a pair of koi that Christian saw. Why were they behaving so strangely? Well, they weren't behaving strangely if you're a koi, because swimming in circles is something that they do. It helps them stay afloat as bottom feeders, they have issues with that. It helps them to regulate their body temperature and it's a way for them to communicate with one another, mating rituals and whatnot. So really, it's not that odd if it was in fact a pair of koi that Christian saw, because given the body of water that this encounter took place in, it could have been something else. Believe it or not, Powell has its very own lake monster. They call it Skin Fin, and it's an aquatic creature with a large dorsal finger like that of a shark, a body built like an elephant, and the flat, wide tail of a manatee with the head and the neck of a miniature brontosaurus. Now, the creature's skin is described as being dark, oily, black and smooth like that of an eel. Unlike most lake monsters, Skinfin appears to want to inflict some sort of harm to those it feels should not be in its home. In fact, there's a report of it attacking a water skier back in 1958. Now that information according to our friends up at the Pine Barrens Institute. A link to the full article is of course available in the show Notes. So there you have it, Christian. Maybe it was just a couple of koi, or it could have been a killer lake monster. So I guess your fear might have been justified either way. Thank you again for sharing the entry. Now this next entry takes us to the Mitten State. Please welcome Kip to the program.
Christian
Hi Derek, this is Kip. I'm Calling from southeast Michigan, I wanted to share with you a series of positive ghost stories that I've had in my life. So my wife and I have been together for over 10 years. We have four kids together. Unfortunately, her father passed away about four years before we got married, so I never really got to know him. But a long time ago, we got married and we had our first kid together. And about two weeks after our first child was born. Woke up out of a dead sleep in the middle of the night. And I thought my wife was like, holding the baby over me, like, here your problem right now. Because I saw like a face right in front of me and I woke up and then I'm looking at it, and I realized, no, that's not my son's face. That's just another face. Very specifically, what I saw was like a dark room and like this white mist in the shape of like a head face and like the shoulders of a person, like leaning over me. And it was distinct enough where I could recognize the face. Took me a second to figure out, wait a minute, this is a ghost. When I realized that this word popped in my head and the word was familial, meaning like, of family. And I wasn't scared, but it was kind of like, okay, this is happening. I kind of recognized the face, but not really. And then as soon as I recognized that this was a ghost and not a person, they kind of made an O face, like, oh. And then the white mist kind of just dissipated into the dark room. Later found a picture of my father in law when he was younger, and that was him. So I was like, okay, so I've met your father now after he's passed away a number of years before. Fast forward, second kid, very similar thing. About two weeks after he was born, I woke up out of a dead sleep and saw this, like white mist in front of me that looked like a face, but this face was like, this is different person and same thing. Wasn't really scared. The word family kind of came to mind, but they had a black and white plaid shirt on. So I asked my wife in the morning. I was like, who in your family had a black and white plaid shirt? And she's like, oh, that was my grandfather. Like, he always had this shirt. My grandmother loved it so much, she still has it, wears it. I found a picture of him. I was like, yep, that was him. So I was like, all right. Met your grandfather after a second kid was born. Fast forward, third kid is born. By now I'm like, kind of expecting something. So about two weeks after he was born, I'm going to bed one night. As I'm laying there, kind of getting comfortable, falling asleep, laying on my stomach, and I could feel the bed next to me start to sink down and lower and lower and lower. And it kept, like, getting lower. It wasn't like, oh, maybe imagine this. Like, it just kept getting lower. I had my eyes shut, and I didn't really want to open my eyes. And I just said out loud, just go see the baby, and then please leave. Sure enough, the weight lifted back up off the bed. And after that, never saw anything after that. So I don't know who that was. They came and visited, and then fourth kid comes along about two years later. Absolutely nothing. Like, not a thing. I was expecting someone to come visit, and I got nada either. By then, I'm just so exhausted. I didn't pay attention to any signs at night. Or maybe by then, just family is kind of like, yeah, okay. You know, we kind of get it. Same thing in real life. People are excited for your first couple kids, and by three and four, they're just like, oh, well, congrats. So that was my series of positive growth stories. Really love the show. Keep up all the hard work. You're doing for it. Thanks, Derek. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Kip. You know, if I've said it once, I've said it 100 times. If you're going to become an unwilling ghost experiencer, experiencing the ghost of a family member is typically the best way to do it. Sure, it's spooky and a little bit scary, but assuming you had a good relationship with that loved one, it has to be much better than the ghost of a stranger in your home. And even though it wasn't your immediate family camp, they were at least familiar to your wife. So I'd say that still counts. But how weird is it that you had your experiences right after each of your children were born? It makes me wonder if the new baby somehow attracts these entities or if the presence of the baby somehow allows them to appear not real. Sure what the rules are there. And I also wonder what happened with the fourth child. Why no visitation after that one was born. Either way, it's very cool stuff, Kip. Thank you again for calling in. And, folks, if you, too would like to share your own story, give our hotline a call at 888-608-night. That's 888608, Nig HT. Or you can record your story on your phone using the Voice Memo app, then email it to me at monsters among us podcastmail.com and remember, there are a few rules. When you call, call from a quiet place. No moving or running vehicles, please. One story per call. True stories only. Only submit each story once unless we ask for a redo. And if you do get cut off, just call back and pick up where you left off. It's really that simple. And the hotline is open 36524 7, so why not share your call with us tonight? You could end up like Neil here. His story's up next out of Pennsylvania.
Christian
Hey, Derek, it's Neil from outside of Pittsburgh. I've been meaning to call in about this one for a little while now. So this actually happened back on October 26, 2022. I have been working from home since the whole pandemic thing started. So most of the time during the day, it's just me and our cats. So the one day I'm here at work, I have a headset on taking calls, and I had just ended a call. There's no one else on the line. I don't hear anything in the house. And then out of nowhere, I hear someone whisper my name behind me. And it scared me so much, I actually, like, jumped. And I kind of pulled something when I jumped. That's how hard I jumped, because it shocked me that much. And I assumed it was my girlfriend because she tends to like to play pranks on me. But I turn around and no one's there but one of our cats. So that's kind of what's bothering me, though. It's like if it's something evil or malicious, I think that the cat wouldn't still be there sitting there like it normally does. I don't know if cats get affected by these things. The thing is, this isn't the first time this has happened, but it's been a while since the last time when I first moved in here with my girlfriend. Gosh, it's been about over five years now. She gets up for work earlier than I do, and I was laying in bed, I'm still asleep, and I heard someone again whisper my name. It sounded like it was right into my left ear to the point where I jumped up because I thought maybe I had overslept or she had overslept, something like that, jump up. And of course there's no one here. So I'm like, okay, that's weird. But later that day, she comes home from work and asks me, why were you sleeping on the couch this morning? And I said I wasn't. And she said, well I was leaving for work. She leaves for work at like 5:30 in the morning. It's so pitch black. She says as she was walking out the door she heard someone say have a good day and looked over and there was a dark shape on the couch. She didn't turn the lights on or anything. So she just assumed it was me sleeping on the couch because I usually tell her, you know, have a good day before she leaves. Yeah. So apparently there is something in the house that either likes to whisper voices or can make impersonations of people. They don't seem to do it that often. Like I said, it's been about five years since the last time. So anyway, you do awesome work man. God bless you. Have a good day. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Neil. Now if I may, I'd like to offer up yet another explanation. Perhaps it was either a time slip in which it actually was you, Neil, that your wife heard, or possibly one of these ghost of the living situations we hear about from time to time. A proper ghost in all aspects of the term, except that the person that it represents is still alive and kicking elsewhere on the planet. Now I have zero doubt that any of these options would be blood curdling in the wrong context. So no matter how you want to explain it, it's creepy stuff Neil, and we can't thank you enough for sharing it here tonight. Now let's do one more call before we have to take our next break. So quickly, lets welcome Jess from North Dakota.
Kip
Hi Derek. This is Jess from Fargo, North Dakota. My story actually takes place in North Platte, Nebraska. I believe it took place in 2011. For context, my mom had just moved out of my home state of North Dakota to South Dakota to live with my grandparents as my grandmother was very ill at the time. And so I went to go visit my relatives down in Nebraska while things were going on. And I was at their home which was built by them, but they had actually experienced many different odd things in the house, like hearing voices and different sounds. Primarily someone had mentioned they had heard a little girl. I didn't hear anything like that, but here's my story. So they had all run errands for the day and thought I had gone with another person, right? So my uncle, two of my cousins, and then my other cousin went off to go to her appointment and then my aunt went to go to run her errands. So they all thought I had gone with another person. And so I was alone in the house and I was watching television and I had their little docs and Otis sitting next to me. And all of a sudden all the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I just had this feeling of, oh, no, right? And so I look over to my right and it's a straight shot through this hall to the front door. And I saw this just dark shadow. It didn't have a form, it was like mostly vertical, just this tall dark shadow. And I'm looking at it and I'm like, this doesn't seem right. And as I'm watching, slowly starts to move toward the right. And their house is a large house, and you can see through these different archways through, like across the house on the main floor. So I'm sitting here and I'm tracking it to the right, and I'm tracking it through different archways, through the kitchen. And then eventually it gets to the living room, which is a perfect 90 degree angle. So between the living room and the front door is a perfect 90 degree angle. And it stops in the living room and I'm looking at this shadow and all of a sudden it starts moving back toward the door. And this happened in a span of maybe 30 seconds maximum. It's been, you know, over 10 years. It's hard to remember, but I just remember thinking, oh my God, I need to get to the front door before that shadow, whatever it is, gets to the front door. And so I ended up scooping up Otis, this little wiener dog, this little dachshund up like a football. And I sprint to the front door and I don't see anything through my peripheral. I just know that it's coming. And so I bust through the front door or whatever, and I'd say maybe 10 minutes goes by and my cousins with my uncle pull up and they ask me what's going on, because I'm visibly shaken. And I explain to them. And as I'm explaining to them, I can't help but notice the looks on their faces of, oh, no. Like they knew what I was talking about. They proceeded to tell me, you know, they had all heard things in this house which I had known before. I didn't ever really feel shaken up in the house until this point. And years later, after this incident, my mother actually fell very ill. She ended up getting lung cancer which spread to her brain. At this point, my grandparents had both passed away, and so she had gone to sleep with that aunt and uncle in that house. And that was probably around 2018, 2019. But the reason I bring it up is because she had told me a story that she was Alone in the house and she had just, you know, been relaxing, whatever, and she happened to look over and there was this massive shadow that didn't have a shape and it was just kind of vertical in nature. It just was kind of this almost like a line. Exactly what I had, you know, experienced myself. And she told me this without knowing my story. And all she said it did was it was just there. She noticed it and it slowly faded away. So hearing this, I felt justified with my experience. And maybe that's not vindicated. I don't know if that's quite the term, but. But it was very bizarre. And she didn't say that she had any, you know, feelings of evil intent or whatever from it. But when I had seen it and I was alone, I had never felt that primal fear of fight or flight before. It was definite, like, you need to go now. So I just thought that was very interesting that it happened. My mom is actually doing really well. She's been cancer free for a few years now after two brain surgeries and getting half a lung taken out. So that's pretty cool. But thank you for your time and I really like the show and keep up the good work. Thanks.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Jazz. Yikes. Sounds like something from a horror film if you ask me. And here we have yet another hero scooping up the pup before bolting out of the room. A big thanks for thinking of the pet and not leaving it to deal with whatever the hell it was that you came face to face with. But I am glad to hear that your mother is doing well since certainly sounds like she's been through a lot. And the final note I'll end on here is that I guess if you're going to see a ghost or a shadow man or whatever this was, I suppose seeing it in someone else's house is probably much better than seeing it in your own. So at least there's that. And thank you again, Jess for sharing the entry.
Neil
But you can find peace of mind.
Derek Hayes
Now. Believe it or not, things actually get a bit weirder on the back half of the show. Not that there was anything ordinary about our first few callers experiences, but I think you'll see what I mean with calls like Elkas out of Indiana.
Neil
Hi Derek, my name is Elka, I'm in Indiana and I'm calling because I just finished listening to Cody tell his story in season 16 episode 6. And following his story, you also did a little piece on the Betts orbit. But the reason I'm calling is because when Cody started to share what it Was that he saw literally my eyes got big as saucers because I had an experience many years ago that I have spent all the years since trying to figure out and sort of like trying to hear other experiencers stories to see if they matched my own. So what happened to me is this. I was in my 20s at the time, many, many years ago and my mom didn't drive. She knew how to drive but she didn't like to drive. She just found it really nerve wracking and just she didn't drive. And so my sister and myself, we often, you know, got her wherever she needed to be or wanted to go and things like that. And so she typically would carpool to work with a friend of hers. They worked at the same place she would catch a ride. But this particular day the lady that she carpooled with wasn't available. She was on vacation or ill or I don't remember, the circumstances didn't matter. But anyway she wasn't available. So I got up and got ready to take my mom to work. Now my mother worked really early hours so she had to be to work really no later than about 6:30 in the morning. This particular morning we left it was probably about 5:45 ish. And the route we take, there's a certain point where you get to the intersection of a road and it tees. So in other words you're pulling up and then you can either turn left or you can turn right onto this particular road. But there's nothing but a big field on the other side of the road where the T. Right, the top of the T. Anyway, so I turn right and almost immediately I stop the car because we look up into the sky and we see this bright silver metallic orb and it's, and it's just perfectly circular. And the way that I have always described it was it looks like a ball bearing, if that makes sense. Right? Like just perfectly round. And it was silver and metallic and it looked like a big ball bearing. It wasn't huge or anything, but it was certainly large enough for us to have noticed it. And it didn't seem like it was very high up in the sky. And so we literally stopped the car. And here's the weird thing, we stopped in the middle of the street and all of a sudden there were no other cars around us. Now you know, it's 5:45 in the morning. There aren't a whole lot of, you know, cars out in my particular city, you know, where I live, but there are cars, there are people going back and forth you know, other early shifters who, you know, trying to get to work or people trying to get home from third shift and things like that. But all of a sudden there were no other vehicles in sight and there was no noise either. We didn't hear animals, we didn't hear crickets, we didn't hear anything. So we're sitting there in the middle of the road. We opened up our doors, I opened up my door, my mom opened her door on the passenger side and we got out. And we're standing there looking up at the sky and we're watching this orb thing cross the sky and it's moving really slowly. It wasn't in any hurry at all. It wasn't making any noise, it wasn't in any hurry. Just this round metallic silver thing, ball looking thing was just crossing the sky very slowly. And the way it was going, it was going from left to right. Literally our eyes are following this thing all the way across. And then all of a sudden we just didn't see it anymore. Once it got to the right hand side of this road that we were on, like it just blinked out, like it was just gone. And so we just thought, what the hell was that? And we get back in the car, we're just like kind of tripping. And I look at the clock. Now this, this is really as if seeing this thing wasn't freaky enough. But we look at the clock and by the time we had got to this little area where we stopped dead in the middle of the street, it was about 6 o', clock, right? Because it took us maybe 10 minutes or so to get from home to this little area where we were. And we left at about 5:45 ish, 5:50 ish. And so, you know, before we got out of the car it was about 6 o'.
Derek Hayes
Clock.
Neil
But when we got back in the car, it was almost 6:30. And we didn't feel like we had been standing there that long. We felt like we had been standing there just for a couple of minutes watching this thing cross the sky. So we just look at each other with our mouths open, trying to figure out like, how is it almost 6:30 already, right? If we were standing there even five minutes at the most, it should not have been almost 6:30 by the time we got back into the vehicle. So anyway, so now I'm like flying to get my mother to work on time and we're sitting there making jokes about how, you know, if she's late we can, you know, blame the aliens for the fact that she had to clock in late. But it's such a strange experience. I have never forgotten it. And again, when I heard Cody share his story, there was something about what Cody said that just. It gave me chills. Like I said, my eyes got so wide, my mouth flew open because I felt like his description was the closest to what my mother and I saw that morning. The only difference is he said something about it looking like it was undulating. Our object was not undulating, and the sky was dark. It was very, very early in the morning, but the time of year it was. The sky was not light at all. The sun was not out. It was rising slowly, but it was still pretty dark. So we didn't see anything that, you know, undulated or looked like it was undulating or like the sun. Sun might have been making it look like it was undulating. We didn't see that. But the other aspects of what he described were just so similar. This experience that I just shared is the absolute clearest I remember. Like, it happened yesterday. I can literally remember every single detail of this experience. So, anyway, thank you so much, Derek. Love the show. Take care of. Thank you so much for what you do.
Christian
Bye.
Neil
Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you. Elka, you can remember everything except where those missing minutes went. But as I like to say, maybe you don't want to know. But what I know is that these metallic spheres are really making a resurgence. As of late, they seem to be popping up all over the place. And earlier this year, fringe news outlets everywhere went crazy for one of these silver orbs. Not because it was sighted, but because they got their hands on one. On the evening of March 2, 2025, residents of Buga, a tranquil town nestled in Colombia's lush Valle del Cauca, looked to the sky and saw something that defied reason. A metallic sphere, smooth and gleaming, hurtled silently through the clouds.

It danced across the atmosphere with movements.

No human craft could mimic. Sudden shifts, gravity defying arcs, and a final descent that was eerily precise. Then it was gone until morning came. That's when they found it.

And yet, upon closer inspection, it revealed something even stranger. Tiny engravings etched into its surface.

Cuneiform from ancient Mesopotamia, fused with circuit board geometry and the angular notations of forgotten alphabets. They called it the Buga sphere.

Now, that clip, courtesy of UAMN TV A link to the full story and a ton of photos and video can be found where else but in our show notes and a little closer to home? I asked Delaney to dig up a few similar sightings from Elka's part of the country, the Hoosier State. And here is what she provided. National UFO Reporting center sighting 181730, Winnemac, Indiana, September 2022. The object was observed moving in a circle of 10 foot radius on the ground. Highly polished, with no obvious aerodynamic appendages or propulsion structure, the object went airborne as my vehicle approached within approximately 1,000ft. Object remained suspended for approximately 10 seconds before ascending straight up at extreme rate until out of sight. Observed that a circular trench had been impressed into the grass where object was seen rolling in a circle before going airborne. Ozone odor was noted near turf marks. Then there was this sighting reported 97161, also with the National UFO Reporting Center. This one experienced in Cardin, Indiana, April 2013. I was sitting outside at work during a lunch break and saw a round silver orb flying steadily above. At about a height a hawk would fly. It was flying northwards, slow and steady. It had an energy field around it with a black ring. It looked to be about the size of a basketball. And then there was this unusual experience. Sighting 31290, Indianapolis, Indiana, September 2003. I was traveling eastbound in my car on I 70 about 3 miles east of Indianapolis. I saw a round, highly metallic sphere to the north of me and from my position my line of sight was about a 70 degree angle. The shiny silver ball, which I estimate the diameter to be about 3 to 5ft, was at about 2,000ft high. As it left, a persistent contrail came from it. The sphere traveled about 100ft from the contrail, then stopped and reversed direction back into the persistent contrail. The sphere was visible for approximately five seconds. Now I don't know what these things are. The military, someone else's military, extraterrestrials, ultra terrestrials, time travelers. But what I do know is that sightings of these things are on the upswing. So feel free to use all this info anyway that you see fit. And thank you again ELA for the super interesting entry. Now I'm curious how you might categorize this next one. Please welcome Derek from Washington State.
Christian
Hey Derek, this is Derek calling from just south of Seattle. I'm calling because you had reports of black eyed people. I guess we'll call them. I also had an experience with that. It was, I'd say between 1992 and maybe 1998, late 90s. My friend and I were driving home from a friend's house at about 3 in the morning. And we were driving down literally the main street of the city that we live in. And we were coming upon this person walking down the street, and both of us thought it was kind of unusual. The closer we got, we realized that it was what we thought was an older woman, which at 3 in the morning was very unusual. They were wearing like a 1950s style dress, which was also kind of weird. She was walking down the street by herself with a walker, very slowly. And as my friend was the one driving, as we passed them, they turned and looked at us. And she had giant black eyes and grayish green skin. And they opened their mouth and didn't make any sound or anything, but just kind of opened their mouth and looked at us turning slowly as we drove by. And my friend proceeded to put his foot to the floor and speed past. And this is right past the police station of the city we live in. So that tells you right there how terrified he was at the time. But a couple seconds went by and we didn't say anything to each other. And then I looked at him and I said, was that. And he said, an old lady with black eyes and gray skin. And we both agreed that that's exactly what we saw. And later on, the other weird thing is the other callers had mentioned how they had felt like the presence was evil or something. I didn't get that feeling. What I got was more of like a predatory feeling, like there wasn't malice behind it, it was just kind of what this thing did. And it was like it was presenting itself as something completely different than what it really was. It was a weird flood of information that I got all at once from just looking at it and getting the idea that, you know, you definitely shouldn't stop, you shouldn't look at this thing, you should just keep going. But anyway, after I heard the other calls, I felt like I had to call in and share my experience because seems like there's more than a couple of us out there that have seen these things.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, sir. Well, what do you think, folks? What exactly did Derek run into that evening? Now, as we try to do with most of these calls that come across my desk, we look for similar encounters in a similar location. And I think the details of Derek's brush with strangeness was just unique enough that we were able to single out a match. I can't speak to the validity of this account because it was submitted to the Humanoid Encounters subreddit over there on Reddit, but nonetheless, here it goes. When I was still in high school, I was heading into town to see my boyfriend at the time and spend the day with them. When the time came to head back home, we said our goodbyes and I hopped in my truck and started to drive out of town. The way out of town I was taking, I was going to have to go past the town cemetery and the town's nursing home. As I'm driving along, I see an old woman walking down my side of the road and at first I don't really think anything of it. The closer I get though, the more I come to realize she was different. She was kind of short, maybe 5 foot 2, but she had white curly hair, pale skin, and she seemed to be wearing white colored clothing as well. She was also carrying a black briefcase, but it was her face that caught me off guard and made me do a double dig. I remember her face was very pale and from a distance I could very clearly see her eyes were strange. But once I was right next to her, I realized she had pure black eyes. It almost looked like she had no eyes at all, just pure black holes in her face. On top of that, her tongue was sticking straight out to the right of her mouth and she stopped in her tracks and was staring at me as I drove past. It had a horrified expression and it was still staring at me. Now a link to that full account can be found. Say it with me now in tonight's show Notes and no location was given by this witness. So for all we know, this too could have happened outside of Seattle or it could have happened thousands of miles away. So match or not, I hope it helps you get one step closer to answers Derek. And thank you again. We sure do appreciate you calling in. And speaking of seeing strange things from cars, this next one features a ghost car. Please welcome Anonymous in Parts Unknown.
Christian
This is a story that just happened to us. Me and my wife were driving down i71 somewhere in Kentucky. We were coming up on an odd ramp and there was one car in the fast lane traveling the same direction. We were coming up on the ramp. What struck us odd was usually when you are traveling and you come up on an on ramp you should be over and let the cars on. This vehicle pulled over the other way. Like to be in their way but none of the cars reacted to it. Him was one car. Then three cars got on the highway which would have made a total of four cars. And when it was all said and done there Was only three cars and I'm in the passenger seat. And I saw back to when he got over. He got over, you know, between like the second and last car cut right between them. Like he was getting on the shoulder. They didn't react. He went on his shoulder. I saw his tail lights. There was two tail lights. Then it went to one. Then that tail light disappeared and was gone. And we looked on the road and there was only three cars and us. Me and my wife both saw it and there's no reflections. We're not drinking. We don't do drugs unless they're free. I'm just kidding. So pretty much it. Love your podcast. We're gonna give you five star reviews and hang up.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, caller, and thanks for that five star review. Now, I know those things can be annoying to do and I'm sure you're tired of me asking for them, but that's how the game is played. The more of those you get, the more popular the show becomes, which means the powers that be will push it to more potential listeners. It's all a bit of a chain reaction. A chain reaction that you can actually start a positive chain reaction for once. So again, we thank you, caller, for the five stars. Now, ghost cars. There's a piece of video that was recorded in Garden City, Georgia back in 1997 that seems to depict just that, a ghost car. It's a police car dash cam that shows the pursuit of a white sedan that seems to be towing with the squad car at one point spinning out in front of the cruiser, only to take off the other direction, leaving the policeman in the dust. Now, the video ends when the ghost car fishtails off the road and into a solid chain link fence. Then its tail lights simply fade into the distance on the other side of the fence, leaving the police car in its wake on the other side of the wire. Of course, I've linked to this full video in the show notes, and as far as I know, it's never been disproven. If you haven't seen it, I think you should check it out. Whatever it is, it's certainly creepy. And if your experience was anything like it, caller, it seems like you had quite the experience as well. So thank you again for sharing and thanks for making the phone call. Now, since these last few calls have all occurred in a vehicle, let's keep that trend intact for tonight's closer. From the state of Pennsylvania, please welcome Tommy to tonight's program.
Christian
Hey, Derek, this is Tommy. I'm from Pennsylvania and I wanted to call with the story happened to me about a month ago. I was at work, I was taking a nap in my car on one of my breaks. I do that quite a bit. I work third shifts. So, you know, whenever I can try and get some extra sleep, I do. I dozed off for a little bit. I didn't set an alarm or anything. And here I woke up and what I saw on the driver's side window and in the front of my car was what looked like kind of like crash test dummies in a way. One was looking in the driver's side and one was standing directly in front of my car, like looking at me. It's hard to explain. And have like facial features, like I said, if you know what a crash test dummy is, just kind of like imagine that, you know, but one on, you know, each side of your car. And I gasped for air because it scared me. I grabbed my chest, then I went for my eyes and I started to rub them. And here, when I rubbed them and got back into focus, both of them were gone. I thought about a sleep paralysis type thing. But many stories I've read and people I talked to all tell me that they can never react during sleep paralysis. I was able to react and obviously, you know, grab my chest and gasp for air and go and rub my eyes and then, you know, realize they were gone. It really freaked me out. I never had anything happen like that to me before involving sleep. I've had bad dreams, so I even thought about that, you know, where was just like a nightmare or something. But I was awake, you know, during, like this. And it's just. It's scary. But I just wanted to call and submit that and, you know, see what your thoughts were on it. Love the show. Thanks. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Tommy. I sure hope he was having a nightmare, because if not, whatever he saw might quickly become our nightmare. A crash test dummy esque entity say that more than once peering into his car windows. Now, typically I do some sort of deep dive on a story like this, but frankly, there's not a lot out there to compare this to. There are these quote unquote false humans that people are reporting. An almost human being, if you will. The description also sort of reminds me of the Dover Demon from the late 1970s, though the descriptions vary there some aspects. Well, and Delaney stumbled upon some phenomena that I'd never heard of, phenomena known as the mannequin people. And it's exactly as it sounds. Mannequin like figures that according to sources like Reddit and 2chan, appear faceless and genderless, just like a crash test dummy. Now like I said, I'd never heard of this legend and there's barely any mention of it on the web, but I couldn't help but notice how well it matched with Tommy's description. And as far as other experiences with these faceless, nameless entities are concerned, we did find one courtesy of the Cryptid subreddit and it comes to us from user new departure 1659 I saw a faceless white, 5 to 6 foot tall humanoid creature, basically Slenderman but without the suit. At my window when I was about nine years old. It was looking into the room kind of just watching me. I slept with my parents since I was afraid of sleeping alone. I didn't move at all. I just stayed stared at it until it walked away. I live in Canada and I think it might have been a skinwalker or a rake. I drew a picture of it. It's not exactly accurate, but hopefully it helps with identifying it. And new departure 6059 did in fact provide a hand drawn image. It's crude, but it seems to depict the exact same thing that Tommy experienced. A faceless human like entity. And that's really all we have for now. If you know more than we do on this subject, which I wouldn't be surprised if you do, shoot us a call 888-608-night or give me an email at monsters among us podcast gmail.com get to the bottom of this one together. Until then, however, a big thanks Tommy for stopping by this evening, and an even bigger thanks for ringing in. All right folks, that's going to do it for this one. Equal or lesser value. We were hoping for similar fate against me. Now we have a lot of new listeners tuning in here lately, so I feel we have to address this weirdness. A long time ago I hit a call at the very end of an episode, sort of like they used to do on CDs back in the 90s and the aughts. Well, people loved it. So much so that I started doing it in every episode. Then when I thought it wore out its welcome and sort of conflicted with the ad scheduling, I decided to retire the custom. But you guys weren't having it. You demanded that I keep the feature. So I did and the rest is history. Now it's the spot where I play the weirdest calls out there. Calls like this one out of the state of Colorado.
Christian
Hi Monsters Among Us. This is Alia Siroc calling from Longmont, Colorado. I have a bunch of scary stories. The one that I'm going to tell tonight though is the first one that ever happened to me. When I was a little girl, I was playing in the basement at my house. We had a duplex and I was playing in the basement on a little trampoline right in front of the stairs. And all of a sudden it got quieter than quiet and I just stopped bouncing. I had my hands to my side and I'm looking around with my eyes. I'm not moving at all. And all of a sudden, about 10ft away from me, about 5ft in the air, a gremlin falls out of the sky, lands on the ground, it looks away from me at the basement window and then it looks right at me and runs into the wall and it runs between my legs and threw my trampoline into the wall about 10ft, turns around and snarled at me. And so I book it upstairs and I took off running and I tripped and I fell and I was screaming for my parents to come help me out and they mom and dad, there's a monster. There's a monster. They didn't believe me, but I still remember that thing that happened yesterday. You guys are doing a great job with this, with the show. Have a good night. Bye. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you. Aaliyah. What a story. A gremlin that fell from the sky. Now, I wonder how many of you pictured the Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante, Chris Columbus, Gremlins, the ones from the 1984 film. And how many of you were as obsessed with that movie as I was. I even have a couple of mogwais here in my office somewhere. And I realize this show isn't exactly movie talk, but there are rumors that there might be a third Gremlins movie coming up, just in case you're as interested as I am. But as far as our caller's experience is concerned. Weird, right? The perfect fit for tonight's bonus story, whatever it was. But now, folks, it is time to go beyond the bonus show we do each and every Thursday. And remember to find us, just visit monsters among us podcast.com and click the Patreon tab. One buck a month gets you the main show ad free. Five bucks a month gives you all the back catalog. Plus this heart stopper from dawn over in Illinois.
Christian
Hi Derek, this is dawn from Illinois calling. I wanted to share my experience, but anyway, I've been catching up on all the older episodes and I was actually at the time listening to season 11, episode 14 and heard John's story about when he was a young boy, about the disembodied hand. Oh my gosh, my mouth dropped open when I heard his story. I had a very similar dream, if that's what you want to call it. But it was so real. Now, I'm not one to have nightmares or, you know, I've never experienced sleep paralysis or anything of the sort. But anyway, I'd fallen asleep on the couch and it was like 7 or 7:30 in the morning. I had gotten up early and let the dogs out and fed them and laid back down on the couch because we have a puppy and that way if she gets into something she shouldn't, I know she'll wake me up. So anyway, I fell asleep and I was in a room all of a sudden, and there was like a bar, if you will, but it was tall. It was on my right. It was like a five foot tall bar. I just remember that was very dark. And my adult daughter, as a matter of fact, was sitting like on a bar stool. And I was facing her, so I would have been to her right and she's facing the bar. And then something grabbed me from behind. I don't even recall like what it was. I just remember something grabbed me and it was very painful and it hurt.
Title: Detailed Summary of "Monsters Among Us" - Season 19, Episode 26: Black-eyed Adults, Strange Silver Spheres, and a Gremlin from the Sky
Introduction In Season 19, Episode 26 of Monsters Among Us, host Derek Hayes invites listeners to share their most spine-chilling paranormal experiences. This episode delves into encounters with mysterious entities, eerie phenomena, and unexplained events that blur the line between reality and the supernatural.
Caller: Christian from Arizona
Timestamp: [00:52] – [05:55]
Christian recounts a childhood fishing trip to Lake Powell's Black Antelope Canyon. At nine years old, he observes two unusual fish—one almost white and the other pitch black—circling each other beneath the dark, green waters. Their repetitive behavior and distinct appearance leave Christian baffled.
Christian: “I saw these two fish... one was completely white and one was pitch black... They almost looked like toy fish.” [01:36]
Derek's Analysis: Derek explores possible explanations, suggesting that the fishes might be koi or goldfish introduced into the lake. He also introduces the local legend of "Skin Fin," a lake monster in Lake Powell known for its fearsome appearance and hostile behavior.
Derek: “Maybe it was just a couple of koi, or it could have been a killer lake monster.” [05:55]
Caller: Kip from Southeast Michigan
Timestamp: [10:20] – [14:40]
Kip shares a series of heartwarming ghost sightings connected to the births of his children. Each instance involves apparitions resembling his wife's relatives appearing shortly after each child's birth, culminating in a mysterious sinking of the bed when his third child arrived.
Kip: “I saw this, like white mist in front of me that looked like a face... I found a picture of him.” [10:20]
Derek's Analysis: Derek discusses how familial ghosts are often perceived as protective rather than malevolent. He speculates on the connection between new life and the manifestation of these spirits, pondering whether the presence of a newborn might attract or facilitate ghostly appearances.
Derek: “Maybe the new baby somehow attracts these entities or if the presence of the baby somehow allows them to appear not real.” [14:40]
Caller: Neil from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Timestamp: [17:09] – [27:24]
Neil describes unsettling experiences while working from home, including hearing his name whispered without a visible source and encountering a dark shape that vanished upon closer inspection. He also recounts a time discrepancy incident where a silver orb observed in the sky seemed to affect the flow of time.
Neil: “When we got back in the car, it was almost 6:30. We felt like we had been standing there just for a couple of minutes.” [33:51]
Derek's Analysis: Derek considers theories such as time slips or the presence of "ghosts of the living," entities that exist concurrently in different temporal dimensions. He references similar accounts from other sources to highlight the mysterious nature of Neil's experiences.
Derek: “Perhaps it was either a time slip... or possibly one of these ghost of the living situations.” [10:28]
Caller: Jess from Fargo, North Dakota
Timestamp: [20:54] – [27:24]
Jess recounts a terrifying encounter in her relatives' home in North Platte, Nebraska. Alone in the house, she sees a tall, dark shadow moving through different archways before vanishing, prompting her to flee with her dog.
Jess: “I ended up scooping up Otis... And I sprint to the front door and I don't see anything.” [20:54]
Derek's Analysis: Derek compares Jess's experience to other shadow sightings, suggesting that such entities might be connected to the house's history or her family's lineage. He notes the recurring theme of shadows appearing and disappearing, heightening the eerie atmosphere.
Derek: “Thank you again, Jess for sharing the entry.” [26:19]
Segment: Compilation of Multiple Sightings
Timestamp: [36:01] – [41:30]
Derek highlights a resurgence of sightings involving metallic silver spheres, citing reports from Indiana and Colombia. He details the Buga sphere incident from Colombia, where a perfect silver sphere with intricate engravings was found partially embedded in soil, defying conventional explanations.
Derek: “Now, that clip... you can find peace of mind.” [36:58]
Notable Sightings:
Derek: “But what I do know is that sightings of these things are on the upswing.” [37:30]
Caller: Derek from Washington State
Timestamp: [41:30] – [44:24]
Derek shares a late-night drive encounter with a woman exhibiting pure black eyes and grayish-green skin. The entity’s presence evoked a predatory feeling, prompting him and his friend to speed away in terror.
Derek: “It was like a predatory feeling, like there wasn't malice behind it.” [44:24]
Derek's Analysis: Derek explores similar reports of black-eyed entities, suggesting they might be interdimensional beings or remnants of urban legends materializing in reality. He encourages listeners to consider various possibilities, from extraterrestrial origins to time travelers.
Derek: “Or possibly one of these ghost of the living situations we hear about from time to time.” [44:24]
Caller: Anonymous from Parts Unknown
Timestamp: [47:25] – [51:10]
An anonymous caller describes witnessing a ghost car maneuvering erratically on Kentucky's I-71. The vehicle's tail lights flickered and disappeared as it moved onto the shoulder, leaving other drivers nonchalant and unresponsive.
Caller: “He went on his shoulder... then that tail light disappeared and was gone.” [47:25]
Derek's Analysis: Referencing a 1997 video from Garden City, Georgia, Derek discusses the phenomenon of ghost cars—vehicles that appear and vanish without explanation. He speculates on the origins of such sightings, including supernatural forces or experimental technology.
Derek: “It's certainly creepy. If your experience was anything like it, caller, it seems like you had quite the experience as well.” [48:54]
Caller: Tommy from Pennsylvania
Timestamp: [51:10] – [53:19]
Tommy recounts an eerie experience of seeing crash-test dummy-like figures on his car windows while napping. Upon rubbing his eyes to clear the vision, the figures vanished, leaving him deeply unsettled.
Tommy: “I saw a faceless human-like entity... I gasped for air because it scared me.” [53:19]
Derek's Analysis: Derek introduces the concept of "mannequin people," faceless, humanoid entities resembling crash-test dummies. He correlates Tommy's account with similar reports, suggesting a possible new paranormal phenomenon.
Derek: “Like I said, there was a description that matches... but there's barely any mention of it on the web.” [35:59]
Caller: Christian from Arizona
Timestamp: [59:04] – [62:46]
Christian describes a vivid encounter where a gremlin-like creature fell from the sky into his basement, causing physical chaos before fleeing. The experience mirrors the Gremlins film, adding a layer of pop culture eeriness to his account.
Christian: “A gremlin falls out of the sky... and snarled at me.” [59:04]
Derek's Analysis: Derek reflects on the cultural impact of the Gremlins movie, pondering whether such entities could exist outside of fiction. He considers the possibility of folklore-inspired creatures manifesting in real life, adding a nostalgic yet terrifying twist to the story.
Derek: “A gremlin that fell from the sky... the perfect fit for tonight's bonus story.” [60:20]
Caller: Dawn from Illinois
Timestamp: [62:46] – [End]
Dawn shares a haunting dream that closely mirrors a previous caller's experience, involving a dimly lit room with towering bars and a painful, unseen force that grips her. The dream felt intensely real, blurring the lines between nightmare and actual paranormal activity.
Dawn: “Something grabbed me and it was very painful and it hurt.” [61:23]
Derek's Analysis: While the transcript cuts off before Derek fully responds, it's evident he empathizes with Dawn's experience, recognizing the unsettling nature of recurring, vivid paranormal dreams.
