Well, no matter what brought you here, I'm tickled pink that you've decided to join us here tonight. And you made a wise choice because I have all sorts of supernatural in store for you this evening. And to kick things off, we're going to begin with a ghost story of the heartwarming variety. Joining us from Nevada, please welcome Andrea to the program.
Andrea
Hi Derek. This is Andrea calling from Las Vegas, Nevada. But this story comes from a tiny town in a rural upper Michigan called Hubbell. And it has a population of about 800 people. This is about my grandma's house. It is an old Victorian. It was built in the early 1880s, so. So it's about 140 years old now. The house has always kind of creeped me out, but I love it. It's beautiful. Only three families have owned it in 140 years. My family is the last one. They've owned it since the early 60s. And a few people have passed away in it that I know of. My grandma's second oldest son passed away in it in 1985. And in 2013 my grandma actually passed away in the home. And this happened after she passed away. We lived two houses away and me and my grandma were very close. We were at her house three or four times a day doing wellness checks, keeping track of some stuff for doctors. So when she passed, it was unexpected and devastating. So after she passed away, I had a 2 year old and a 12 year old. And I would talk like I was talking to my grandma during the day. I'd be having a bad day and I'd be like, oh, I wish you were here, this and that. And within an hour or two I'd look over to her house and the light in her kitchen would be on and I'd go over there, turn off the light, come home and be like, well, that's strange. But okay, whatever. It kept happening several times a week. If I was having a bad day, really upset, that light would turn on. And finally I called an electrician, had an electrician go over there. We had had the whole home rewired a couple of years prior. He went through everything, said there's nothing Wrong with the electrical, and the switch would be flipped. So I said, okay, I don't know what's going on. This kept happening, kept happening. Finally, it was just the joke, oh, grandma's home. Somebody has to go over and turn off the light. So after about a month of this happening, several times a week, I went, okay. I walked over there after it came on one night, climbed over the snowbank and went in and said, graham, I get it. You're listening to me. Please stop turning on the light. We don't want to climb over the snowbank to turn it off. And it never happened again. So we've had a couple other experiences in that house. When my children were both little. They have a big age gap. They would just go into another room or go to the bottom of the stairs and just laugh and talk like they were talking to somebody that was sitting there. Never try and climb the stairs, but just talk to somebody like they were there interacting with somebody, and nobody was there. So, you know, the house is old. It has kind of a vibe to it, but it is certainly a home that my whole family has treasured and will continue to treasure for years to come. Thank you for everything you do. Keep up the good work.
Robert
Good night.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Andrea. Now, there's just something great about this story, and I think it's the idea that grandma is still there taking care of the place. It sort of reminds me of something my family experienced when I was pretty young. It was in the mid-1980s. I wasn't very old, maybe 6, 7, or 8. Anyway, just down the road from us, there was a huge barn and a small farmhouse nestled there next to the state highway. And up until that point in my life, I'd always known this to be a particular old man's house. He was very elderly, probably in his late 80s, based on his appearance, and he farmed the land there by himself, at least until he passed away. And that summer day, when he did pass, all the farming activity there stopped. But each night when we would drive home from town or grandma's or football practice or whatever, we would drive right past that little old farmhouse where the man had recently passed away. And sometimes, not every time, but sometimes there would be a single light on up in what we assumed was the attic window. And when that light was on, the only thing that was illuminated was a single, solitary wooden rocking chair. It became a bit of a game for us that summer. Is the ghost light going to be on or off when we drive by? Well, at the end of the summer, an estate auction took place and everything changed. They remodeled the house, they tore down the barn, and they sold all the farming equipment. The light never came back on. But Andrea's story here reminded me of that time, the summer that we watched a ghost turn on the light. So thank you again, Andrea, for sharing your similar story. Cody
Hi Derek, My name is Robert. I'm from Oklahoma. I was about 11 or 12 living out in the country in Centerville, Indiana. It was around 1998 and I had a friend who lived down the street from me. I would ride my bike maybe two or three miles down the road over to his place and we would hang out, you know, a couple times a week. One time we were hanging out, it was around six o' clock at night and it was just starting to get dark outside, just barely. We had been playing outside and we were kind of tired, so we ended up sitting down in the grass and there's a few different clouds. And we were looking up at them and just hanging out. And all of a sudden we saw three crafts and they were moving at normal airplane speed. Obviously, we looked up and noticed three planes flying together, nothing too odd. But as we looked, each of the three crafts had a light that would go around it and then stop and go around it over and over and over. And we thought that was really strange. I've never seen a plane light that would go in a circular motion. And as we were looking up, they were flying in almost a triangle pattern. And the craft in the very front, which, like I said, was going normal airplane speed, which is, I'm guessing, probably around 500 miles an hour, shot across the sky, double or tripling its speed, and then all of a sudden instantly returns back to normal airplane speed and starts going. And the two behind it, right after that, shot across the sky, doing the same thing, and right behind them, they instantly stopped and returned to normal airplane speed. And we completely flipped out and we ran back inside to tell his mom. And ironically, this was back in 1998. She was watching Jerry Springer and did not want to come out and see. She thought we were making up things and she was not interested in entertaining our ufo. So we ran back outside and sure enough, they were still there, but they were further off in the distance. And we watched them for a while to see if they would shoot across the sky again. They never did. Eventually they kind of faded away. It was a really strange experience. You know, it's a ufo, which means, you know, it could have been some military crafts or it could be something out of this world, I don't know. That's my story. Thanks for listening.
Robert
Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Robert, for calling in. Well, first, let's get our bearings here. The part of Indiana that Robert is talking about is located in the southeast corner of the state, not too far from an infamous location known for the strange and the unusual. Now, typically, when one thinks of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, they automatically associate it with the state of Ohio. But what a lot of people do not realize is that the base is only about 40 miles from the Indiana border, and it's only another 25 miles to Centerville, the area in which Robert had his experience. And truth be told, 65 miles is mere minutes to any of these modern marvels that the military possesses. So I would say any military activity from Wright Patterson is fair play here, Robert, but so are all the UFO and test flight rumors that stem from there as well. And as we like to do on many of these UFO calls that give specific dates and locations, we dig around to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing that our caller has. And lo and behold, this time we have a bit of a match. The following report was made to the National UFO Reporting center all the way back in November of 2003, and it occurred just 40 miles to the east of where Robert had his experience, just outside Wright Patterson Air Force Base. I woke up at a little after 3am and saw three circular lights flying in a triangular formation outside my bedroom window. The lights were lower than a commercial plane and the lights were not small as you'd see on a commercial aircraft. However, they were traveling straight at a normal rate of speed to the southeast. The lights were quite large and did not blink. And they were all the same size and color and they were round. They traveled in an exact coordinated pattern, this being two lights fairly close to each other on the bottom row and the other light on the top forming a triangle. I never heard any noise. They traveled at a steady speed and I watched them until they were not in my line of sight. And you know, believe it or not, the witness actually made a second report only a few months later reporting the exact same thing. A link to that report can be found in tonight's show notes. But is this the same thing that Robert saw that evening? And where exactly did it come from? Now, before we move on in our digging, we uncovered something pretty interesting that supposedly took place just a little over 100 years ago in the very same place that Robert had his experience. The following is courtesy of a strange magazine article, date unknown. In June of 1923, 10 year old Norman Massie was leading a team of horses into his family's pasture when he suddenly saw a domed metallic craft with three legs land in a nearby field. Massey walked toward the object which was surrounded by lights, and stopped when he was approximately 50ft away. Massey claims to have seen five men, roughly 4ft tall with blond hair, tinkering around the inside of the ship. Massey heard one of the men tell the commander that the repairs have all been made before watching the UFO shoot off into the sky. Now, if the descriptions of these two vehicles are as similar as they sound, well, that might suggest that whatever Robert saw back in the late 90s might have been around for much longer than that either way. Thank you again, Robert, for sharing the mystery and sharing your story here with us. And if you have a tale you would like to tell, give Myhodline a call. It's open 247365 every moment of every day. And the number is easy to remember as well. It's 888608. That's 888608, Nig HT. Or if you want to take your sound quality up a notch or you're calling from out of the country, you can record your story on your phone using a voice memo app, then email the file to me at Monsters Among Us Podcastmail. Now, there are a few rules that you must abide by or at least try to True stories. Only one story per call. Finish your story. If you get cut off, do not call a story in more than once unless requested. I promise we'll get to it. And finally, and most importantly, call from a quiet place. We can hear everything that's going on around you. Loud pets, running engines, children, highway noise, a Jerry Springer show on in the background. Whatever it is, we can still hear it. So go to a quiet room to make your call. And for mothman's sake, don't call from your vehicle, please. One more time. That number is 888608. Now, this next one requires an abrupt change in topic, so hold on tight. Cody from Mississippi, welcome to the program.
David
Hey, Derek, my name is Cody. I'm from Laurel, Mississippi. I was calling about something that happened to my cousin. It was probably a year or two ago. They were in church and they were at revival. They're Pentecostal. And a prophet was there and preaching. And this prophet was very hands on. He would, you know, kind of go up to different people. But he saw a light around, I guess, and he came up to my cousin and he looked at him and he was like. All he said was, you're a cop, aren't you? And my cousin was like, well, yeah, I am. He was like, I don't know, something has given me an energy. And I want to say that something is going to happen to you that's going to change your whole life and make you realize a few things. And he just kept talking to him and he was like, when this happens, you're not going to be in your uniform. You're not even going to be, you know, practicing as a cop that day. So my cousin thought that was kind of weird. And when my aunt was telling me this story, I was like, where even is this going to go? But fast forward a couple of months. My cousin bought this hunting dog, and it was a puppy. He was taking him out into the woods and, you know, trying to train.
Will
Him a little bit.
David
He had a tracking collar on him, so he let him go through the woods and was trying to, you know, keep up his location. Well, he lost the dog. He was looking for him for at least an hour. And finally he found him. And he came up on this little house in the middle of the woods. This was actually in Quitman, Mississippi, where this happened. He, you know, came on his house, and there was a guy sitting on the front porch. And my cousin was like, hey, I think my dog is here. And he was like, yeah, I have your effing dog. And my cousin was like, I'm sorry if he, you know, did anything, but I would like my dog back and won't go. He was like, I ain't giving you your dog back. I'm gonna kill that mfer. And my cousin was like, please, I love my dog. I just got him. Can I have him? And about that time, some cars pulled up and these guys got out, and my cousin was actually driving his hunting truck. And the guy on the front porch, he was talking to the guys, and he said, hey, y', all, get that man? And just talking about that they're gonna beat him up and possibly even kill him. And one of the guys in the truck was like, no, you can't do that. He's got somebody with him. And keep in mind, my cousin was by himself. So later that day, my cousin, he woke up at home. He had no idea how he got home, and to this day, he has no idea who those men were talking about. I know it's a weird story, but. Yeah, I just thought I would share that. And I like to think of it as like a guardian angel or something. And that may be what the prophet was talking about. So thank you, Derek, for all you do. Have a good day.
Will
Bye.
Robert
Bye.
Derek Hayes
But what about the pop? Don't leave us hanging like that, Cody. Let us know that the puppy was okay and. What a weird story. I have so many questions, and I know that there aren't any real answers out there unless maybe one of you listening has something to offer. And if you do, you know what to do. Either way, we appreciate the phone call, Cody. One of the weirder ones that we've played here lately. So thanks for calling in. Well, folks, I'll tell you what. Since we're already in Mississippi, why don't we just sit a spell and hear What David has to tell as well.
Robert
Hey, Derek. This is David from Mississippi. I was listening to season 18 episode 3 with Gina and she's talking about the screams in the forest. I don't normally tell stories like this, but it just, it shocked me, the similarities. So about a month and a half ago, me and my girlfriend were going on a late night picnic. It's about 10 o' clock, and we were going to Oketibe Lake in Collinsville, Mississippi. And the dam on the edge of the lake is about a mile wide and right in the center there's a park bench. So we're walking out and we didn't get 500 foot on the dam. And we hear coyotes to our southeast pick up like they done caught something. I'm like, that's strange. I wish I would have grabbed my gun out the truck. But we keep walking out there and they're getting louder and louder and we're about 500 foot to the middle of the bridge where the park benches are. They get so loud and then just get quiet. And, you know, it's strange to me. They just all shut up. So I told her, I said, I really don't feel comfortable. I ain't got my gun. I don't know what would make coyotes be quiet like that. Let's go back. We start walking back and we might have walked 2, 300 foot. And to our southwest, which been about 5 or 600 yards from the coyotes, we hear what sounds like a guttural grown man at the top of his lungs. The only way I can describe it, it goes from real low growling almost to real high pitch, like a over the course of five or six seconds and is so loud, I mean, it's three, 400 yards from us and I can hear it like it's, you know, right there in my ear. So I tell her, I said, I don't care if you drop your food run. And we're hightailing it back to the truck. And it wasn't until we got back to the truck I noticed that since whatever this was screened, everything was dead quiet. We're out here at a big lake and there's wilderness everywhere, you know, for there not to be crickets even. You know, I want to say this was late August maybe in Mississippi.
Will
That's insane.
Robert
I mean, it was so quiet I could almost hear my heartbeat. My ear. Anyway, I just found it freaky how similar it was to Gina's story. Big fan of the show. I've been listening for about three months. Keep up the good work.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, David. Now, the sound that David made definitely has a primate feel to it. And if a lot of these Bigfoot researchers are correct in their assumptions, Bigfoot seems to be some sort of primate. So I guess one plus one equals two. And whenever the subject of Bigfoot in Mississippi comes up, I always have to bring up one of my favorite calls to date. Mac from Mississippi and his broken back Bigfoot breastfeeding story. Go to season nine, episode six to listen to that full entry. And let's go ahead and make Mac's entry a cautionary tale. It could have been worse, David. It could have been a lot worse. Either way, it's certainly spooky stuff and not what you want to hear on a late night picnic, but it's exactly what we want to hear here on the program. So thank you again, David, for calling in days starting at 6am I haven't paid my taxes in eight years. Oh, so you cooking now? Oh, that's what's up. Now let's take a quick poll. What is the scariest room in your house? I have a hunch a lot of you are going to say your basement, but I also have a hunch that a slightly smaller group will say they're attic. Well, for that particular set of folks, this next one from Will will help validate your assumptions.
Robert
Hi Derek, this is Will from Wisconsin. Though my story takes place in Vermont quite a few years ago at this point, back in the late 90s, we used to visit Vermont when I was a kid and my grandmother lived in an old stagecoach inn from the early 1800s. And I've sort of hesitated to call in in the past because the story almost sounds a little bit too cliche. But it's one of the few paranormal experiences I've had in my life. Yeah, it seems to fit pretty well. So in that house it was always somewhat creepy. But we had my cousins around, similar age kids. We'd hang out and play. We were never supposed to go in a couple of the attics. There were a couple of closed off attics and my mom would tell me that these attics hadn't been open even since her childhood. For many, many years these attics had remained closed off. One day when we were playing, we decided it'd be fun to sort of unlatch it and go in there while my parents were outside sort of having some drinks and making food. So we did that. We unlatched the attic, went inside, and we didn't really see anything too creepy. There was a musty smell, there was some Old farm equipment that had probably been in there for a century, but nothing that really excited us as much as we thought. So we quietly closed the door and came back from the attic, which was actually located in one of the bathrooms in the house. It was sort of through the bathroom back into the attic. But after that, as we were sort of moving on and trying to think what we would do next, we saw a light on the wall. And it was sort of a multicolored light. It was sort of a rainbow color in and of itself. This wouldn't be too surprising, you know, light refracting through windows or what have you. But the light moved. It moved around the room. It moved from wall to wall. And even at the age I was then, I think I was maybe 10, I was somewhat skeptical, you know, of ghostly sorts of things and these things being real. So I said, well, it's probably from the road outside. You know, these lights are just moving around the room because the road. Let's leave the room and see if it follows us. And the light did follow us. It followed us out of that bathroom into the hallway, sort of on the wall, all the way around this multicolored light. And we even went downstairs. We were starting to get a little creeped out now. Went down the stairs, and the light was still there, moving around the walls, really, wherever we would go. The fact that it came down the stairs with us is the point where I sort of felt like this is something beyond just light refracting from the road. We were pretty creeped out. Never went into that attic again. We ran out and told my parents. You know, my mom, of course, sort of dismissed it. But I think she'd always been sort of creeped out in that house as well. She grew up there in the 1950s and 60s. And again, a house with 200 years of history, there's many chances for something to go on. Never been someone, as I said, who really believes in ghosts. You know, there are other aspects of the paranormal that really appeal to me, but this is an experience that I fully can't explain. Again, the fact that it followed us throughout the entire house makes me think there probably was something going on there. Thank you, Derek. I love the show. Yeah, keep up the great work. Thanks.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Will. That'll teach you to go places you don't belong. All joking aside, perhaps the adults knew there was something spooky in that attic space, and that's why they wanted to keep the kids out of it. But as for the light, I haven't any clue what that Might have been. The only thing that sounds even remotely feasible is, is that there might be some sort of air intake fan up there. And there was somehow light shining through it and the fan was slowly moving, possibly pushed by wind, and it would cause the light to appear as though it was moving as the fan blades broke the beam. But I have my doubts about that being the cause. That doesn't seem to be what Will was describing at all. So we'll just chalk this up to another mystery. But it's a great one. Well, so thank you again for taking the time to share those events here on the program. Now, keeping with the concept of unusual light sources, let's welcome our next caller of the evening, Felix, all the way from Canada.
Robert
Hey there, Derek, first time caller here. My name's Felix and I currently reside in the Okanagan in British Columbia. So I'll just get off and start. This was pre Covid. So I think 2019, I took this bill out on a date pretty late at night, maybe around 9, 30, 10 o'. Clock. I took her to this kind of a lookout spot. Had a 1987 Corolla and had a sunroof. But we went to this lookout and you know, we were doing date things and talking about life and etc. Etc. And I decided to pop open the sunroof and you know, she was talking about some things and I kind of zoned out and I looked up in the sky. It was pretty clear sky, not a single cloud in place. Site they felt where we were at. We didn't have much light pollution, but we were still around in the city area. So it wasn't perfect, but it was a clear sky. I remember I saw something up in the sky, in the atmosphere or whatever. But I mean, it's pretty crazy to explain, but it looked like streaks of colorful light all bunched up in one spot up in the atmosphere. You know, it's gonna sound safety, but it literally looked like something out of Star wars, kind of like a laser fight. I mean, I saw yellow, red, blue, green, like pretty much all the colors of the rainbow all, you know, concentrated in this spot in space. And I knew it looked really far away. That's why pretty certain it wasn't, you know, a plane or helicopter, a drone or anything like that. Because, you know, it looked kind of like a shooting star, but all concentrated in one tiny spot up there. And they were going all sorts of directions. Like, I'm telling you, it looked like some sort of laser fight up there. So I nudged at the girl and Asked her, hey, did you see that? And she looked up and she stared off for a couple of seconds and she's like, oh yeah, what is that? And I'm like, I don't know, it looks like space fights going on. And she's like, yeah, what the hell's going on here? So we both stare off and eventually it just dissipates. Like I said, I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything man made. Maybe might be some sort of atmospheric phenomena that I'm not sure that exists. Maybe some sort of aurora borealis that I've never heard about, but it was really odd. Anyway, if anybody else has had this sort of thing going on, I'd love to hear about it. It's all the great work. I love the show.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Felix. Now, given that you live off of Lake Okanagan, do let us know if you should see the local lake monster, Okapogo. And how about it, folks? Has anyone else seen anything resembling what Felix just described? Some sort of space battle out in the vastness? Now, if you have any insight or you've seen the same thing, you know what to do. 888608 knight. And thank you again, Felix, for telling us about whatever it was that you saw. Now, from space wars to Ouija boards, please welcome Cam from Wisconsin to the platform.
Will
Hi, Derek, this is Kim. I'm calling from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. My story, I thought I'd call in. I'm not sure on the year on this. I think it was Maybe back in 97, something like that. When I was a young girl, I was walking home from school and in someone's garbage, they had thrown out a Ouija board. And I thought, oh, I'll bring it home. And I took it home and didn't really do anything with it. I think I was in fourth or fifth grade. We put it in the attic and it was in the attic of my parents house for many, many years. When I was married, my parents owned a cottage up north. And we decided to take the Ouija board up there. And I told my mom, I'm going to come over and get the Ouija board out of the attic. Which I did. And I took it up to the cottage. And I remember mom saying, don't play that without me, because she thought it was kind of fun.
Robert
We never played it before, but me.
Will
And my sister and my brother, we said, okay, we won't do it without you. Well, that Friday night mom went to bed early and my sister and I decided to get the Ouija board Out. And we went by the fire pit and played. And of course, nothing happened, which I kind of figured nothing would. Later that night, my sister and I went walking around. And we believed in Bigfoot at the time. So we were out there walking around, and we heard some screams, and it freaked us out. Went back to the cabin and decided to put the Ouija board back in the back seat of the car. So mom knew we didn't touch it because she knew it was in the backseat. The Saturday came. Nothing happened. We did not play it. Sunday morning came, and I was in my bedroom packing with my husband, packing our clothes up. And we had a bunk bed. And I was just packing up my stuff, and all of a sudden I realized there was something on top of the bunk bed. And the Ouija board was up there. And I tell you, I don't know how it got up there. It freaked me out. So I took it in my hands and I walked into the kitchen. My sister was in the kitchen with my mom. She looked at me. She said, kim, what's wrong? She said, my face was as white as a ghost. I said, how did this Ouija board get on top of the bed? We were freaking out totally. So I took it home, and we took it home, and I put it under my bed at home. And it seemed like for the next three, four, five months, weird stuff started happening. I don't know if it had anything to do with the Ouija board, But not looking back at it now, I think it did. And there was one incident where my washer would be going, and I would go upstairs and go back down 10 minutes later to put it in the dryer. And I find out that my washer had been opened because it was a top opener. And there was nobody home. And this happened several times. I finally end up burning the squeegee board. And nothing happened after that, but it was just very creepy with this Ouija board. Another quick story. When I was younger, I was married to my first husband. This was just nothing to do with the Ouija board. But I remember I was in the bathroom in the evening. My husband was on the couch. He was passed out, sleeping. And he's a big coffee drinker, but he was sleeping. I was in the bathroom doing my business or whatever I was doing in there. And I heard him get up off the couch at squeak, went into the kitchen. He moved the coffee cup across the counter. I heard it literally move across the counter, that noise that it makes. And I said, are you awake? Are you awake? And I said, his name. I said, steve, are you awake? And he never answered me. And I said, steve. And I heard that coffee cup. When I had finished in the bathroom, I got up and went outside. I went into the living room and he was still passed out and the coffee cup was on the counter. I love your podcast. Just discovered it a while ago. And keep up the good work and I hope I get to hear my submission on your show sometime. Thank you so much, Derek.
Robert
Appreciate it.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Kim. Well, I will admit I'm a bit jealous here. It's my dream to find an old Ouija board in the trash can. If I had the space here, I'd probably start a collection. Most of those things are downright beautiful, especially the older ones. Now, if one started moving about the house all by its lonesome, well, that one might have to go in a locked case or something because I'm not taking any chances. And according to Delaney's research here, there have been more than 10 million Ouija boards sold since Parker Brothers, now Hasbro Gaming, acquired the licensing rights back in 1966. Now, talking boards have been in existence since the 1850s, but the Ouija board, as we know it, wasn't patented until 1891. And Kim had mentioned that she had burned the board. That brought her so much grief. What a shame. I wonder how many amazing, possibly possessed pieces that we've lost to just such a fate. Don't burn em, just send them to me. Hit me up with an email if you're looking to unload a haunted Ouija board or any other haunted object for that matter. So far I have nothing weird to report from any of the haunted objects already donated to me. But things are always a little bit weird around here, so maybe I just didn't notice. But a fun tale Cam nonetheless, and we thank you again for sharing it.

If I'm going to go three to four days a week, there was no Malik neighbors.

Now this next entry details another strange sound in the wilderness. But the origins of this sound certainly are terrestrial. Welcome to the show, Colton.
Felix
Hey Derek. My name is Colton and I live in a small town about 30 or 45 minutes up and north from Seattle, Washington. I got a little bit of a UFO story to tell you. This is actually going to be the first time I've told this story to anybody. So this is probably back when I was 12 or 13. I'm 22 now, so it's probably nine or 10 years ago. Essentially I lived up on a little hill. Like I had a little neighborhood there and we had A pretty large front yard. I would go out pretty much every day during the summer and stuff. Like ride around on a little ATV we had or I don't know, got like my little BB gun or something. I'd just go up and play and stuff. Anyways, one of these nights I was sitting out in the front yard just in the grass. It was I guess dusk, so it wasn't super dark, wasn't super light. I was kind of getting to that point where like you can kind of see stars coming out. I should also mention that I also live pretty far out from town, probably like a 15, 20 minute drive out from town. So there wasn't really too much light pollution. You can see stars and stuff pretty well. But anyway, so yeah, as I'm sitting there, I look off into the distance and I see this really bright light. It's just sitting there like a really, just constant bright white light. And I looked at it, I'm like, okay, that's kind of odd. I don't remember there ever being like a bright star there. I mean like I know where the North Star is, but that definitely wasn't the North Star because it was probably more, I want to say southeast from me. So I'm looking at it and I'm trying to like kind of make sense, like why okay, what is this light? Because it doesn't really seem to be blinking or anything. I'm looking at it for probably 10 minutes there, just trying to figure out what it is. And the more and more I look at it, the more and more kind of weirded out I am. So I decided to run in and try to grab my camera, just try and see if I can get any footage of it. Granted since I was only 12 or 13, I had a really cheap camera that did not do well in low light situations. So I didn't get anything from that. Oh yeah. So I run in, grab my camera, run back out and by the time I come back outside maybe a couple minutes later, I notice that the light starts moving towards me and like directly towards me. So I'm watching it and it takes a few minutes to get to me, but once it gets to me, I can kind of hear a sound. It didn't really sound like your typical like small airplane sound. It was more of like just a constant hum, like a little bit like that, maybe a little bit lower pitched. But it definitely didn't sound like your typical like propeller airplane or anything like that. And as it's passing overhead of me, it's going really, really slow, quite A bit slower than a small aircraft probably should be going. Couldn't have been no more than 150ft above me, which I also believe is probably pretty low for any aircraft unless they're coming in for a landing. But the closest airport to me was probably 20 miles away anyway. So, yeah, as it's coming overhead of me, I hear that hum and then I look up at it and the shape of it to me looked like a half circle, like a hemisphere. So, like the front of the craft was just the flat part and then the back of it was rounded and it was just completely black except for, like the light. If I remember correctly, there was lights on either side of it and then one in the middle on, like, the front flat portion of flew right over top of me. Took, I don't know, probably five to 10 seconds to pass overhead and then it passed behind some trees and then I lost it off into the distance. I watched it as it was going away and I could still see the light just a little bit, but, yeah, and then it just kept on going into the distance and I was just kind of sitting there in the dark, kind of confused as to what I just saw. And I've been trying to kind of make sense of it for the past 10 years here. I keep trying to tell myself that it's a plane, but the more and more I think about it, the less and less I think that it could be. But anyway, so, yeah, that's my story. You're doing a great job with the podcast. Keep up the good work.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Colton, for the phone call. Now, based on the description that was given, the story could be explainable? Well, sort of. Over the past few years, small pockets of the US have been infiltrated with large drones, drones that hover at night, carrying out clandestine operations. Places like Colorado, New Jersey and here in Southern California. Now, to date, there's been no explanation given as to where these drones are coming from or why they are here. But perhaps it was one of those. A drone the size of a mid sized car that Colton saw. But on the other side of the coin, reports of a humming sound have been synonymous with UFO sightings almost since their inception. A strange droning or rhythmic hum, as detailed by eyewitnesses, abductees, and some government whistleblowers. And historically, it's a detail we've all heard a lot about before. Here are a few examples. The North Hudson Park UFO. On January 12, 1975, George Obarsky was driving through North Hudson Park, New Jersey, when static suddenly buzzed through his radio, he quickly glanced outside his window and noticed a dark, round object with vertical, brilliantly lit windows that emitted a humming noise. The craft, which was was following his car, began to hover over a nearby field before opening a panel door. A ladder Descended. At least 10 identically hooded figures emerged, scooped soil samples, and returned to the ship before it flew northward out of sight. The Edinburgh UFO incident. In the fall of 1966, local law enforcement in Edinburgh, Texas, received a report of eight men standing along the side of the highway who were visibly agitated and screaming in distress. The men, who were digging a gravel pit, said they noticed bright lights in the sky, which were accompanied by a loud humming noise. There was suddenly a great gust of wind, followed by flames that shot down from the sky, charring the land and setting fire to their vehicles, excavators, and a mobile home used by the crew. Law enforcement arrived on scene and confirmed the blaze and destruction of the property. Then there was the Vernezh UFO incident. On September 27, 1989, a group of schoolchildren and residents in Vernezh, Russia, noticed a pink light hovering in the evening sky. A dark red orb emerged from the light, slowly descended, then flew away. Several minutes later, the UFO reappeared in the same location, and this time, an alien wearing a silver suit and bronze shoes materialized out of the craft. The alien had a strange metallic hump for a head where three eyes continuously scanned the crowd. The alien returned to the craft, which then ascended and descended rapidly while emitting a loud humming noise. Of course, there's the aerial school UFO incident. On September 16, 1994, 62 children at the aerial school in Ruwa, Zimbabwe, witnessed a silver craft descend from the sky and land in a nearby field. Some students claim to have seen creatures emerge from the craft and share a message with them telepathically. One girl named Hayley said that she first noticed the craft due to the strange sound it was emitting. She said it was like someone blowing a flute. Other students likened the noise to a hum or a buzzing sound similar to bees or electricity. Now, those are just a few encounters that we pulled that seem to depict a similar sound to what Colton just reported. And if all of these examples are to be believed, it might just suggest that this phenomena is actually occurring out there. But that still does nothing to answer where these things are coming from, who or what are behind them, and what is their motive? Now, keep your ears open out there, Colton, and be sure to report back should you hear anything. But in the meantime, it's quite the story, and we Appreciate you taking the time to share it with us. Well, folks, it's time for tonight's final entry, unless you're one of those weirdos that sticks around for the bonus stuff. And I have a real interesting call to round things out tonight about an infamous place in one of our largest states. Please welcome James from the state of Texas.
Robert
Hey, Derek. This is James from Texas. And I'm listening to the beyond episode where you're going in depth on the moose lady. And you just hit a part that triggered something I wanted to call about, and that was the elemental aspect. A couple weeks ago, I was doing some exploration on a mountain in the hill country of Texas. And I'm not going to disclose the mountain just for privacy sake, but I've been to this mountain several times looking at plant communities and ecosystems and stuff like that. Just, it's very, very unique aspect because it has so many different, very unique ecosystems on this mountain. So that's why I've been there and researched it quite a bit. And when you go to this mountain, it feels special, if that makes sense. It's kind of a different feeling on this mountain. But anyway, a couple weeks ago I was there doing some exploration, actually working on a thesis. And when I got there, it was cloudy, it was fairly overcast, which is nice because, I mean, it's pretty daunting. It's pretty steep climb to get to the top of the mountain. And I was doing some research on plants and trees and different plant communities on the sides of the mountain, but also on top of. But when I got to the top, I don't know, it was just a different feeling than I've had experience up there before. Of course it feels good to be up there. It's beautiful. It's absolutely gorgeous. But it's just a different feeling. Almost a sense of being watched. Not necessarily in a negative way, but just, I don't know, just a different feeling. So after feeling that, I kind of opened my mouth and was like, all right, I feel you. I can, you know, feel you looking at me. I know you're here. It's okay. I'm just doing some research. So just kind of talking out loud just to kind of make myself feel better, if anything. But after doing that, when I was walking around on top, it felt like I was being followed. And you kind of get little shadows at the corner of your eye. You turn around and the bush is moving. Like something just ran behind. Was very odd. And it was very quiet. Usually you see a lot of birds up there, you know, Your dogs barking in the distance. But it was extremely quiet and no birds, beautiful flowers. I mean, it was probably the prettiest I've ever seen it. Just gorgeous. You know, have in mind that this is a mountain that's untouched. Nobody really goes there. It's on private land. You have to have permission to get up there, and nobody ever gets up there. So it's very rare that somebody's up there. So I don't know. I mean, when I was up there, the feeling I got, honestly, was that whatever this was, wasn't human. It was the spirit of the mountain. It was a spirit of the landscape. And that was kind of the feeling I was getting, which was a good feeling. It wasn't a bad feeling. It was just. It was different. I've never really had that big and heavy of an elemental feeling or experience before. But anyway, whenever y' all said that on the episode, it triggered my memory. I did try to videotape kind of looking behind me, you know, when I was walking. And I did end up catching a glimpse of something. When I turned around, there was a big rock formation. I would swear to you that I saw something go behind that rock, like a shadow almost go behind that rock. So, anyway, it was a really unique feeling and. All right, man, that's it. I appreciate it.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, James, for calling in. Now, as James mentioned, this area is rife with history and paranormal activity. And it's a wild, rugged, rocky area, lots of canyons, caverns, domes, mountains, and outcroppings, many of which covered in quartz, just like so many other paranormal window areas. The Borrego Triangle, for example, for those that have seen my movie. Now, the significance here is that quartz is known to store and produce energy and information. And there are many in the paranormal field that suspect large deposits of quartz can either attract, channel, or manifest certain supernatural activity. And historically, the place is full of very old accounts vouching for its strangeness. Take Enchanted Rock, for example. Folklore of local Tonkawa, Apache and Comanche tribes ascribe magical and spiritual powers to the rock, hence the name Enchanted Rock. The Tonkawa, who inhabited the area in the 16th century, believe that ghost fires flickered at the top of the dome. In particular, they heard unexplained creaking and groaning sounds. Additional legends include human sacrifice on top of the rock and the spirits of wounded and killed indigenous warriors roaming the slopes. And that Enchanted Rock is the site of a lost or undiscovered gold mine. And then there's the strange report that some people seem to have the ability to turn invisible when they are near the summit. And as you've heard, some of these legends go back nearly half a millennia. And like any window area worth its salt, it's been featured on television. The granddaddy of them all, in fact, season eight, episode eight of Unsolved Mysteries. Here is how I would have first heard about this extraordinary region when I was around 14 years old, courtesy of Unsolved Mysteries.
Kim
They called it the Devil's Backbone. And when it comes to ghosts per square mile, few places short of purgatory can match these 4700 acres in Central Texas. To get here, you head south out of the state capitol, Austin, about 50 miles in some 200 years. The gnarled canyons are. The Devil's backbone were once home to Comanche and Apache Indians and the 1700 Spaniards pushed through on the road to conquest. Among them was a Franciscan monk named Espinosa, infamous for his ruthless ambition. More than a century later, renegade Confederate soldiers on a doomed quest for gold breathed their last in the Devil's Backbone. Here in the Devil's Backbone, ghosts are as common as spines on a cactus. But why should this particular patch of land prove so irresistible to spirit?
Derek Hayes
The Devil's Backbone is haunted because it's loved. It's loved by these spirits. It's loved by myself. And I imagine someday when I'm gone, I will haunt this same son of a gun. So I guess the point that I'm getting at here, James, is that of course, you had an odd experience in Texas Hill country. From what I gather, most everyone that visits does. But before we duck out of here, James had mentioned a larger than life feeling. Shadows dipping behind rocks and trees and the ever present feeling of being watched. And those attributes all point to one large, hairy cryptid. All traits said to be possessed by the creature known as Bigfoot. And believe it or not, there have been a number of Bigfoot sightings reported in that area of Texas. Of the 25 counties that make up Texas Hill country, six have a history of Sasquatch sightings, At least according to the bfro. And there was one encounter from that region that took place back in 1977 that seems to be eerily similar to the experience James just recounted. Here's how it was reported to the Bigfoot Field researchers organization. During August of the summer of 77, I had gone fishing with five of my school buddies down at the La Pazzas river. We got there during the early evening hours so there would be plenty of daylight for us to set out our trot lines. About 50ft from the end of one of our trot lines there ran a gravel bed along the river's bottom from one bank to the other. So when you get to this point you have to pick up the boat and carry it about 50ft until you get over it, then set the boat back down, hop in and take off. We pick up the boat and begin carrying it across. After about three or four steps we hear what sounds to be a very sharp cracking sound. We both stop and listen. Nothing but silence. We begin again and hear a loud cracking sound. All of a sudden we hear what sounded like something rushing toward us from the west bank. We could hear what sound like trees being broken and we could see by the moonlight trees falling from the top of the bank coming straight for us. It gets through the trees and is completely exposed to the moonlight. This thing looked to be seven to eight feet in height and was dark with hair. Had a small head which looked like two orange, almost glowing eyes. No resemblance of a neck, and very long swaying arms covered with hair about a third foot long. This thing was coming at us very quickly. I fell backwards and caught myself with the boat. This was all I needed to snap me out of this trance. I held onto the boat and ran as hard and fast as I could over the gravel bed. My feet found the drop off of the gravel bed and I jumped in the boat, grabbed the only paddle I saw and began paddling. We jumped out of the boat and took told the rest of our friends to get the hell out of here. We left everything, got in our trucks and took off back to Cove. Now given what you've described here, James, at the very least leave your options open. Because be it ghost elementals or Sasquatch, whatever is haunting the hills down there sure has made an ape for itself. Any big thanks James for allowing us to discuss it here this evening. Welcome back folks. Step on inside. You've stumbled upon the Secret Story. Now the first rule around here is to always stick around to the end of the show because you never know what you're gonna miss. But Rule 2 regarding the secret Story is keep it as weird as possible. And I intend to do just that with Jay's entry out of Canada.
Colton
Hi Derek, My name's Jay. I live up here in Alberta and Canada. I have a story about maybe turning invisible. When I was a kid, I used to spend a lot of time in the bush.
Robert
When I was a little boy, I.
Colton
Lived beside a highway. One day I came out because I heard somebody shooting across the highway in the bush and I thought maybe they're shooting birds and squirrels. I was kind of concerned about that. I was a kid, I liked to spend lots of time over there. Didn't like people doing stuff like that. So I put my shoes on and ran across the neighbor's lawn and down through the bush, across the highway, across the stream and up into the bush. And I followed the noise to where I heard it. Sure enough there was two boys there just blasting birds up in the trees. And I kind of snuck up around the bush up behind them and it was a pretty open forest and I don't know how they didn't see me really. I was pretty quiet. I come up behind them and they both turned around and they looked my way and it's like they looked right through me and they didn't see me standing there. I was standing right there and then I yelled at them and I hit.
Robert
A Stick on a log and, you.
Colton
Know, kind of gave them heck for what they were doing. And those two boys took off because they were a little younger than me. To this day I still think about that and thought, how did they not see me standing there? So anyway, it made me think of that when I was listening to one of your episodes today on the way home, so thought I would share it with you.
Robert
Keep up the good work.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Jay. Going invisible, it doesn't get much more weird than that, does it? And if you were listening during the last call on the main show, in my commentary I'd listed some of the phenomena associated with a place called Enchanted Rock there in Texas Hill country. And one of the phenomena that was listed is the ability to turn yourself invisible. What a coincidence. Either way was crazy stuff. Jay, thank you for sticking up for the animals and thank you again for sharing your entry. And there we are, folks. The train is leaving the station. We're leaving the main show behind, charting a new course in the beyond. And to get us started here this evening, a rather lengthy entry, but an interesting one nonetheless. From Massachusetts, please welcome Derek to the program.
Robert
Hi Derek, this is Derek from Western Massachusetts. I'm a first time caller and I'm calling in with a pretty good UFO encounter that I had. It was in Truro, Massachusetts back in 2021. It was actually May 17th to the 21st. I stayed out there with my ex girlfriend and our one year old daughter. We were staying at a campground called Hortons Adventure Bound Campground. It's a pretty nice place. It's situated right at the base of Highland Light, pretty historic lighthouse there. So it happened the first night we were there. It was the 17th, it was right around midnight. My ex girlfriend was heading in for the night and our daughter was sleeping already.
