Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Greetings, everyone. Super happy to have you with us here tonight and super happy to be doing a show tonight. Frankly, this episode is the episode that almost wasn't. For some unknown reason, the Internet has been out on our mountain for the last two days. We struggled pretty mightily to get Tuesday's episode out to you, and we thought we were gonna have to do a beyond unlock for this episode. Our surface was spotty, and neither of our hotspots really seemed reliable enough to do any real production work. So the crew and I got together and came up with a bit of a plan. We'll do a Grab Bag episode now. Ironically, the Internet just came back, but we're already committed. So Grab Bag it is. And just a reminder for those of you that aren't familiar with this little theme, I randomly choose a dozen or so stories and play them blindly. You hear them for the first time along with me. Now, in addition to that little twist, I also keep my commentary to a minimum during Grab Bag episodes. Just a way to ensure that we get to play as many calls as possible. So to stick to my word, I'll stop yapping and start playing the first entry. Ethan out of New York. Welcome to the program.

Hi, Derek. My name is Ethan, and I've never really shared my stories ever, anywhere. I'll tell you, my dad's friend, co worker, he gave me a spotter scope because I had seen UFOs twice already and he was like, here, man. You know, just use this to see if you can, you know, get a closer look at anything, if you ever spot anything again. I don't spend too much time outside, but every time I look up in the sky, I seem to see something. But the third time I seen a ufo, there was a black triangle. And I had been able to use the spotter scope that my dad's friend gave me. And I was looking through it and I could make it out pretty well. It was the same thing I'd seen The first two times. But I was at a new location. I had moved addresses. I was living in a new house. So I heard a story from my dad's friend, same guy I got the spotter scope from. I heard from him that he had spoke to an elderly couple that lived on a road very close to me. They spoke of a story that they shared with absolutely nobody. Because they thought they would all think they're crazy. You know, they're going senile or something. They said that one night they were sitting out on their back porch and chairs, you know, the rocking chairs or whatever. I can't remember if he said it was foggy or if it was just getting dark. But they said that they seen a craft, a UFO land in their backyard, back way aways away from them. And they seen a walkway, you know, open up from the craft. And they seen these two beings walk out holding hands or two or three. I can't remember what he said exactly. But they weren't human is what this elderly man had told my dad's friend. They weren't human. They looked like classic little craze. They were pretty freaked out about it. And then this being spotted them. You know, they seen each other and then they got back in the craft and the craft took off, disappeared. He didn't tell me what the craft looked like, but it happened on Old Ridge Road and so does New York. I 100% believe this because I've seen three triangle UFOs myself. Very close, low to the ground, you know, it's not like a light in the sky. I didn't see that. I seen three triangle crafts up close right above me. And I think that they're reverse engineered tech. I don't think there's little gray aliens in them. I think it's reverse military tech. But that old elderly couple, that couple seen something that I haven't seen. And it kind of blows my mind that it happened a couple roads away. So that's my story. Thanks, Derek. I appreciate everything you do, man. Your show's great. See you later.

Incredible stuff. Ethan, thank you for taking the time to call in. Now, as far as Triangle UFOs are concerned, new York is a great place to spot one. It's home to the infamous Hudson Valley flap of the late 1980s, I believe. And how cool of your dad's friend to give you the spotter scope. Though I would like to suggest you take it one step further. If you jump over to Amazon or pretty much anywhere you can buy electronics, you can pick up a night vision monocular for about 50 bucks and these things work pretty well and they even have a little memory card so you can record whatever you're videoing. I threw a link up in the show notes if you want to take a look. And lastly, I'd like to touch on the strange beings that seem to step out of the landed craft. I would love to hear that story from that elderly couple, Ethan. So if you're in contact and you can get them to call in, I'm sure we would all love to hear it. Until then, however, thank you again Ethan for sharing your call. Now folks, I have tons more left in the grab bag. But first we have to take tonight's first advertisement break. Now if you would, please welcome Aunt Liza all the way from Oklahoma.
B
Hi Derek, this is Aunt Liza calling from the Panhandle of Oklahoma and I have a story for when my kids were younger, we used to go to a lot of thrift shops and I found some paranormal books, kind of like an encyclopedia really. There were three of them. One was like on Bigfoot, one was witchcraft and you know, just spooky stuff. So, you know, I thought, oh, that'll be neat to pick up. So I pick them up and I bring them back home and I opened one of the books and kind of looked at them and I put them in my kids room. Well, both of my boys were very young. They were still in grade school and they shared a room. So one night after we picked these books up, they had turned the lights off and they were telling each other good night. And then they heard a man's voice say, good night, boys. They told me about it. The next day I got the books out of the house. I called our priest, he came over and blessed the house, blessed their room, and put rosaries under their pillow. And I never picked up a book like that again from the thrift shop. If anybody ever has anything in their house or has a problem, call a priest. It doesn't matter if you're Catholic or not. They would love to come to your house and bless your house for you. So anyway, that is my story. Thanks for letting me share my story. Talk to you later. Bye.
A
Thank you, Aunt Liza. I love a good paranormal find and old bookstores are the best. But maybe not if you bring a spirit back with you, I suppose. But if you still have those books, Liza, I would be happy to take them off your hands. I ain't afraid of no ghosts. But thank you, Aunt Liza for sharing that incredible entry. Now folks, if you have a tale you would like to tell, give our hotline a call, 888-608-night. That's 888608, Nig H T. Or record your story as a voice memo and email it to me at Monsters Among Us podcast gmail dot com. And don't forget the rules. True stories only. Call from a quiet place. One story per call. One call per story. And if you need more time, just call back and pick up where you left off. And most importantly, have fun with it. And folks, it's officially that time of the season. I need your hometown legend calls. Paranormal stories from your hometown wives. Tales about your area, spooky legends surrounding your old stomping grounds. Whatever you've got, send it on in. And don't forget to mention the words hometown legend early in your call so I can more easily find your entry. Now let's dig Deep into this grab bag and pull out tonight's next caller, Hammer from Canada. Welcome back to the show. Hello Derek, it's Hammer calling from central Canada. I've been a police officer for a couple decades now. One time I used regular for fire department or whoever to call the police to breach a door if they can't get in kind of thing. So anyways, as this story goes, fire was called because there was a carbon monoxide alarm going off inside someone's apartment building. There's a two floor apartment building, maybe eight units on each floor kind of thing. So we go there and the reason why they called us is because the carbon monoxide detector was going off from inside the suite. They had the maintenance person crack open the door and they found it was latched from the inside with one of those kind of, it's like a chain but it's a, I don't know, metal bar or whatever. So we go there, they couldn't get in. They said they stuck their portable carbon monoxide detector into the room with their arm kind of thing into the apartment and it was reading absolutely zero for carbon monoxide. So they couldn't figure out why the alarm was going off. But obviously there was someone in there, they weren't responding and they needed to get in to check for people's safety. So I go there, my sergeant shows up as well. We breach the door, obviously, maybe it's not obvious, but there was a corpse inside the room. That's why no one was answering. The person was deceased. So we go in there. From what I recall, there was nothing suspicious or anything. Anyways, I spoke to fire and they said, well, they've never, in all their years of experience, they've never seen a body set off a carbon monoxide alarm before. And of course their machine gave a reading of zero anyways. So they end up loading up the body, taking it out of the room and myself, my sergeant were still there along with fire, along with the maintenance person. And as soon as we got into the hallway, there was a fire detector in the common hallway right above the body and the fire alarm went off, which I thought was kind of strange too. Now it set off two different type of alarms. And also upon speaking with the maintenance person, they had mentioned that in Canada probably along with other modern countries kind of thing, that whenever a common fire alarm goes off, they're all linked together and it's absolutely impossible for one alarm to go off. Kind of the same thing if you set off a fire alarm in the bathroom in Walmart, every single Alarm goes off and the whole building has to evacuate. Same way with an apartment building. If a common area alarm goes off, they all go off and the apartment building has to be evacuated. So I don't know, something was trying to talk to us or what, but set off two different alarms shouldn't have set off either. And it was impossible for the fire alarm to go off by itself. So anyways, Derek and Sarah, take care. Thanks, Hammer. You know, it's always going to be a good story when a police officer calls in for some reason. Those calls are always the creepiest. And Hammer here, of course, did not disappoint. It's weird stuff, Hammer. Creepy stuff even. And we thank you for joining us here this evening. Now, folks, I'm going to pull out one more call before our next break. This time it's from Max from here in California.
B
Hi, Derek. My name is Max. I live in Orange County. A few years ago, me and my parents, we lived in an apartment in south Orange County. And we definitely had some uncomfortable experiences there. My parents have always been very sort of not skeptics. They definitely are a believer in ghosts. Mainly ghosts. They talk about sort of when we go to certain areas that they can feel different things. But they knew that it freaked me out. So they kind of kept it a little bit of a secret in our apartment until we moved out. And they kind of told me things that happened to them. So with my mom, she sort of just kind of felt different presences in the apartment. But the main thing is what happened to my dad. He's always sort of felt kind of uncomfortable in the apartment there. And there was one night that he was sick and so he had. So I just spend the night on the couch. That's to not keep my mom up coughing, as he's told me. He was kind of dozing off and all of a sudden he hears this growl right next to his ear. Like someone's right there. Sort of like a raspy, deep growl that woke him up. He's never had any kind of exploding head syndrome. He's never had anything like that. But that definitely woke him up and freaked him out. And that was the end of him sleeping in the living room. But upon them telling me about sort of that and what they felt inside that apartment, I sort of was thinking back. And when I was there, I definitely felt uncomfortable falling asleep at night. It felt like there was someone standing at the doorway. I would turn my head on my bed towards the wall away from my doorway. And it's just, you know, that feeling that someone is there and you turn around and there's no one there. But it was definitely a very strong feeling. And then really the only sort of physical thing that I ever saw which could be easily explained but definitely creeped me out was one day I was just sitting on the couch watching tv and there was a photo of me on the sort of above the TV on a little display shelf. And this photo, you know, I'd been up there for years. We lived in this apartment for a few years and it just up and decided to fall onto the ground and it cracked. Definitely creeped me out. I sort of put it back and didn't think much of it, but that was my experience in that apartment. Definitely creepy. Love the podcast. Thank you for listening. Goodbye.
A
Thank you, Max. You know, I can recall conversations that my parents had in front of me growing up regarding ghosts in the supernatural. My aunt's deceased husband coming back in ghost form was a topic bridged often by them as it was an ongoing saga at the time. But the point here is that it sort of ruined me. I couldn't sleep for days after hearing a story. I was afraid of the dark. You know, kid stuff. But today I'm thankful because perhaps those overheard stories helped me get where I am today, talking spooky 247 and getting paid to do so. So thank you again, Max, for not only the entry, but for that mental jog down memory lane.

Do we hear people say it? I saw it. I saw it myself. Well, did you?

Now for this next entry, we stay in the state of California. But this time we venture out to the desert. Please welcome Eric back to the program.
B
Hey, Derek. This is Eric out here in Palm Springs, California. Man, I had a really weird experience on December 13, Freaky Friday last year. I had a dream after I fallen asleep around 10 o'. Clock. I felt like I was barely asleep. And all of a sudden this immense pressure was on top of me and my whole room was vibrating, the whole building. And I opened my eyes as much as I could. It seemed like these sonic pulses were lifting the sheets off of me. And my dog was floating in the air and between the sheets, you know, everything layered. How? We were just sleeping with gravity. But then it was like we were in like an anti gravity field. And I just started screaming, get off of me. I said, get off of me. Get off of me. And I said in the name of Jesus. And right when I said that, I fell back onto the bed and my dog did too. Like everything. The pressure got off of me and we went back to normal gravity. And I closed my eyes and I woke up around 2am that was very odd to me because I felt like I was like, oh, that was a dream. But I didn't feel like I went back to sleep. I don't know, it was just very strange. It was like times skipped from 10 o' clock till 2am and after 2am I had gone back to sleep around like 4am and I had another dream where these alien species, very tall humanoids, they parked all their jeeps in front of my apartment complex and so I had to go next door. This happens a lot in real life. But the fact that they were like taller than the fence, I'll never forget it. And when I walked back up to my unit after escorting them to come get their cars and move them from our parking lot, there was like a lot of people in my apartment just taking whatever they wanted of mine, coming and going. I don't know why, like guys from the grocery store and their uniform were there. But at one point there was a huge explosion. And I look from my balcony, which I can see the landscape of Palm Springs. Like two miles into town is this huge like explosion. All this dirt is coming out of the ground. I'm trying to run and I can't run off of my stairs because someone's standing on my feet. And everybody is just standing, staring at this explosion, which actually isn't going to fall on us. But it's very Contained. It's a very odd dream. I woke up the next morning and I remembered I had both of those dreams. But my co worker let me know that her husband works at the power plant or something, and there was actually an explosion the night before. So December 12th, Thursday night in Palm Springs from a power plant or something. That's what they said. And I said, okay, around what time? It's like around 11, 11:30. And that's really odd because that's when I had the dream that I was almost getting abducted. But there was also this huge pressure on me, like a sonic boom. And the only thing that stopped it was calling up the name of Jesus and fighting and just staying strong. So later that day, it was weird because my car battery went out while it was at work. The battery power in my car just, like, went out. My car died and for no reason. And it was odd because when I went back to sleep after the first dream with almost the near abduction, there was a bright flash of light. And my neighbor, she told me that she experienced a bright flash of light when she was at work and everybody froze and there was no dial tone. So something happened here in Palm Springs on Freaky Friday last year. And I really appreciate what you do. I love this medium that you're utilizing. I love the podcast. Thank you. All right, peace.
A
Thank you, Eric. Well, what do you think here, folks? Alien abduction? A time slip of some sort of a ghostly experience? Or was it simply just sleep paralysis or maybe a bad dream? Whatever it was, it was super weird. And I love me some Palm Springs. It's certainly a strange place. So thank you again, Eric, for keeping that magic alive. Now, folks, with our next story, please welcome Dave from North Carolina.
B
Hi, my name is Dave, and I'm only in the season four of your podcast that was recommended by my cousin, who I share this story with. We are in North Carolina now, but originally from Pennsylvania. It was a small town called Calvin, Pennsylvania, which is near Huntington. There was a neighbor up on the hill who was an elderly gentleman named Russell. And we used to ride our bike up the hill and we would ride down the dirt road about a mile or so to go to the store for him. He would let us keep the change and buy what we needed. Russell lived in a simple shack. No running water, no electricity. This is back in, like, 1980 something, where I was about 10 years old and I believe my cousin was around 12. After a day of riding the dirt bike through the mud, swimming in the pond, doing country boy stuff, we were sitting on the back Porch waiting to go in before his mom told us we had to. And as per every night, we saw Russell's candle go from what would be considered the kitchen to the bedroom of his little two room shack and went out as it did all the time when he went to bed. His mom then came out and said, boys, it's time to come in. And we said, we know, we just saw Russell going to bed. And she said, yeah, I need to have a talk with you. And when we went in the house, we got all cleaned up. She said, wanted to let you boys know. Russell's son went up to his house this morning and he found that he had passed away. He actually fell and hit his head on a nail and it caused him to die. And we said, that's not possible. We just watched Russell walk from the kitchen to the bedroom and go to sleep. And she said, no, boys, that's not possible because Russell died last night. Now, a lot of debunking. I'm sure there was no family that would stay in his place. No electricity. So it wasn't lighting. It was a candle we saw flickering going through there. And I know we were young and there's probably a lot of reasons that this shouldn't have happened, but it's one of the reasons that now I'm skeptical but still interested in the paranormal. Just thought I would submit. I thank you for your podcast. It's very interesting. So thank you and keep it going. I have some other submissions for later.
A
Thanks. Dave, any big thanks to your cousin for making the recommendation? And what a crazy story. Now I know Dave dismissed it, but I can't help but wonder if it was possible that Russell's son came back unannounced and unexpectedly, maybe to pick up something or to search for an important document. And if there's no electricity at the shack, then he too would need to use a candle. But I also can't help but think that it might just be Russell still living out his daily routine, despite the fact that he's no longer with us. Like I said, creepy stuff. Dave, we thank you for sharing it here with us. Now folks, for this next one, we head to nearby Kentucky where we meet up with Tyler.
C
Hey, Derek, this is Tyler from far western Kentucky. I got a story that spans 20 years. It first started in July of 1986 when my dad was only 16 years old. They were living in a rural area in western Kentucky in a log cabin. They had bought the farm his parents did not too many years before this event took place. He was out In a the back pasture, bush hogging. He wasn't really familiar with this area because as they'd grown up and this was the first time they were going to cut the grass. Well, I don't know if you've ever bush hog, but if you run over something with the bush hog, it makes a hellacious noise. And he said he was bush hogging and then run over something and it just sounded like something was about to tear the bush hog into pieces. He stopped and raised the bush hog up and got off and looked around and found out it was actually part of a tombstone. So he was looked around, didn't really see any other graves. So he threw the section of the tombstone onto the tractor seat with him and finished bush hogging and didn't really think too much else about it. He brought the tractor and everything back up to the house and went inside, brought some pieces of the tombstone, showed my grandmother, granddad, grand. They're like, oh wow, you know, that's really interesting. We didn't know there was anything out there. There's nobody's ever said anything. And I think my grandparents had lived in that area their entire life. They never had heard of any things out there, any graveyard. So this could have been just like a single grave. Well, he cleaned it up a little bit and he was able to make out the name Anna. And that's the only thing he could make out was the word Anna. So they had a tree right up next to the house that had a split V in the trunk. So he went out there and he just set the tombstone in the V of the tree and didn't think any more about it. Well, that night they heard somebody beating on the door and they looked around, oh, turned on all the lights, went to the door, didn't see nobody. Thought, you know, that's kind of weird. Maybe they're playing ding dong ditch or something. You know, some kids, even though this is a very rural area, they went back in the house and no sooner than they shut the door, they hear it again. And they flipped around, opened the door real fast and that tombstone was laying just outside the screen door flat on its back. So my granddad picked up the tombstone, walked it back over to the tree and placed it in the via that tree. Well, the next day my grandmother was home alone. Dad, my grandpa was out working and she was baking. She was a big baker. She would always bake all the time. They had a family. I don't know if it was a family reunion or just some kind of get together that Evening, she had a cake made for it, and they were getting ready to leave. All of a sudden they just heard a crash. Just glass shattered.
B
Everywhere.
C
They go in the kitchen, and there is a single piece of cake cut out of the cake sitting on a plate. But like the 9 by 13 baking dish that it was baked in, and the rest of the cake was shattered all over the kitchen floor. He said that was probably like the biggest thing that happened. There was on and off stuff that happened for about a month after that. Lights, maybe some noises. But that happened in July of 1986, when my dad was 16 years old. I was born in 1990, so four years before I was even born. Fast forward 20 years to 2006. I'm 16 years old. We live about 15 miles from that house. Me or my dad are the one before his incident in 86 and mine in 2006 had never before or since experienced any kind of paranormal activity. I always enjoyed watching shows about it, but it's just never happened to us. So in July of 2006, so same month, me and my dad, I was the same age, 20 years apart. I was home alone. I'm the oldest of five siblings, and one of my siblings had a ball game. I was home alone. It was about 10, 30, probably. I just got back from a friend's house and I sat down in my computer chair to play on the computer. I had an old TV. And, you know, this was 2006. This was like really before the flat screens. It was a big, boxy tv and it didn't have a remote. I had to physically get up and turn the TV on. Well, as soon as I sit down in my computer chair, the TV came on to pure static. It was just very, very loud static. So I went over there and I turned the TV off, and I walked back to my computer chair and I sat down again. And no more than I had sat down, the TV comes on again, Blaring static. Well, that kind of creeped me out. So I walked over to the tv, and as soon as I push the power button to turn the TV off, the TV goes blank. I have my light on in my room, so I can see a reflection in the screen. And the best way I can describe it is like off signs when they see the reflection of the alien in the TV screen. I could see a dark, tall shadow silhouette standing in my doorway through the reflection of my tv. So I instantly turn around, and it's gone. As fast as I can turn around, it's gone. I don't ever Actually see it with my eyes. Well, about that time, right outside my bedroom door was the bathroom. The toilet flushes, so I jump from the TV across the corner of my bed, out the room, into the bathroom, flip the light on. Nothing. At the same time, I hear a rustling in the kitchen. So it's like it's almost leading me away into this area. So I go down the hallway, I cut through the living room, and our house kind of made an L shape, and I could see the light coming from the kitchen out the kitchen door. And we had a window in the living room, and the shades were pulled, but I could see the light. Well, while I was in the living room, I see the shadow walk past, like somebody was walking in the kitchen into our pantry. Well, I knew at that point if it was anybody, they were trapped in the pantry area. So I hightail it around the kitchen, into the pantry, and there's nothing there. Nothing ever happened after that night. I just thought it was kind of weird because it was to the exact month my dad was 16, I was 16 and 20 years apart that paranormal stuff had happened to us. I didn't have any other experiences after that night in that house or since then. And I'm 34 now. I just thought I would share it with you. I thought it was pretty interesting, and I'd like to hear your take on it. Thank you.
A
Thank you, Tyler. You know, I can't help but think that maybe your dad should have put what was left of that stone back where he found it. Now, when I was a kid, there was a large farm up behind our property, and us kids would mess around back there from time to time. Back in one of the pastures, at one time, we found a busted up tombstone sitting beneath a tree. And we debated taking the pieces back and putting it back together. But after hearing what Tyler and his family endured, I'm real glad that we didn't touch it. Now. Thank you again, Tyler, for taking the time to share. And by the way, if you don't know what a brush hog is or a bush hog, it's a 4 foot by 4 foot mowing apparatus that is towed behind a tractor. It's a large, noisy piece of equipment. Now, folks, it's time for another quick ad break, but I'll be right back with more grab bag action. Don't touch that dial. Hey, this is Jay from the Ozarks. I wanted to tell you a story about when I was a computer technician back in the mid-90s in a small southern city. I got a phone call to go to a client that I've been to a few times before. He was a museum consultant, so his office was littered with all kinds of artifacts. It was a fun client to go to, but he said he had a new office in downtown. And I arrived at this building and it's the weirdest building. It's 20 stories tall and it's about the size of a basketball court and it's jet black and it's next to this building that looks like it's from the 1900s and it has like this Spanish style temple on top of it that's all dilapidated and full of pigeons. So I go in this black pencil shaped skyscraper and there's no names on any of the floors. I get in the elevator and it goes from 1 to 12 to 20 and all the other floors are empty. He's up on 20. So I go up and working with computer and across from the windows is this dilapidated temple on top of this old building. And you know, it is just the creepiest setting ever. The sun is going down. It's twilight in the city. And I finish up and I decide I want to take the stairs and figure out what's going on with all these missing floors. On the elevator I find a door that's open and I go into this weird old suite of offices that takes up all of these floors in the middle of this narrow building. And they look like something from the 1960s, from like a 1960s sci fi movie. The desks look like wings. There are these weird Old phone systems that look really expensive and complicated. And in the middle of it is this spiral staircase that goes down through the building to this landing with this really cool looking desk. If you told me this was the headquarters of the Avengers in 1967 or something, this would fit. Totally bizarre. There's no names on anything. You can't tell what it was. Obviously. It's all empty except for desks. So I leave and, you know, just kind of file it away as a cool urban adventure. Fast forward about two weeks. I'm on a date with my girlfriend. Both of us, you know, have our own place. We both live with our parents. And so I thought, you know, this would be a cool thing to show her. I go back there and that building is not there. Neither is the weird building with the temple on top of it. And I just think, well, you know, I'm turned around. It's 1996. There's no satellite navigation or anything. I think, well, obviously I just can't find it. And I always kind of look for that building. I can never find it. So fast forward about a year, and I get a call from this client again, and he's at a different location. I go, the client looks completely different. He says he's never been in the skyscraper, never been downtown. He has no idea who I was talking about. He doesn't know anybody in the business because he still has the same office littered with all of these relics and everything. So I don't know, you know, what to call it. It's always stuck out in my mind that it was a really unsettling experience. It's kind of hard to put into words how creepy this guy was. This dilapidated temple, this weird blacked out skyscraper with the missing floors and the empty rooms and then it not being there. Anyway, that's the story. I've held onto it. You're the first person I've ever told. It has so creeped me out that I've been afraid to think about it. Literally. And it sounds silly, but it's like the more I thought about it, this weird thing that doesn't fit. I thought, you know, it would bring more weird things into my life. Anyway, love the show, love the stories, take it easy.

Thank you, Jay. For the mystery. Both myself and my editor, Connor, spent considerable amount of time trying to track this building down with zero success. Which is kind of weird because I think Jay gave plenty of clues. We should have found it. But as he said, the building disappeared, so maybe that's why it's remained so elusive. An Amazing entry, Jay. Thank you again for ringing in. Now, by the way, if any of you listening happens to know where this building is, by all means, please let us know. Now, if you would please join us in Indiana, where we meet with Michelle for this next entry.

Hi, this is Michelle calling from Indianapolis. This is actually something related to my mother's death. My father went to visit my mother in the hospital the Friday before she passed away. And, you know, he saw her and he prayed over her and, you know, he was kind of crying. They've been divorced for many, many years. But, you know, he still very much cared for my mother. And anyway, he went back home that night and the next day on Saturday, he came and visited me out of the blue. And he lives out of town, so he had to drive into town to tell me this, that he had had a dream the night before that my mother came to see him and she told him that they were calling her home. So in his mind, this is before she passed away. That was a sign that she was going to die and he wanted to come and tell me about it. And of course I didn't believe him. I was like, dad, that was just a dream. You know, I know one time you had a dream about one of my sisters getting in a car accident that never happened. You know, this was just a dream. And he was like, no, it was really her. It was her voice. And probably eight, nine hours later, she was gone. I got that phone call, I had to go to the hospital and she was passing. I just wanted to share that. I love your podcast and I wish you well. Have a good day.

We appreciate the call, Michelle. Incredible. And this touches on a paranormal subject. I very much believe in contact with a loved one after death in the dream realm. I tell you, that phenomena really needs a catchy handle, but I've heard so many versions of this story, Michelle, but that never keeps them from giving me the goosebumps. Now, we're sorry for your loss, Michelle, but we thank you again for taking the time to call in. Now, folks, real quick, before we push play on this next one, a reminder that you can get all sorts of Monsters Among Us merchandise over in our shop. Hey Derek, this is Andrew from Massachusetts. Big fan. I've been listening to you for years. Actually discovered you through the Kryptonaut podcast. And I have a story that I actually shared with them that they played on their listener story segment. I'd really like to hear your thoughts on it. I'm 41 now. This happened when I was 19, so this was 2003 or so. I was hanging out four friends. We were hanging down a historic Plymouth waterfront. This was at night. You know, we're kids, 19, not able to get into the bars or anything like that, but we go hang out at the waterfront till wee hours in the morning. Only pre faced us with. There was no drinking, we were completely sober. We were just, like I said, dumb kids hanging out in the parking lot by the water. And that was it. So this must have been, I don't know, two, three in the morning and we were heading. My friend lived in Middleborough, not far from Plymouth, 20 minutes or so. And she lived deep out in the woods. So go drop her off. Now there's four of us in the car. I'm pulling out of the driveway, which is one of those kind of hidden driveways. You can't see the house from the road, it's kind of deep back there. And I don't know about now, but back then there was no street lights on this street so it was completely dark. Like I said, this is between 2 or 3 in the morning at this point. So I turn out of the driveway, I got my high beams on so I can see and I see something at the very edge of the high beams moving. It was on the left side of the street and in three bounds it crossed the street. This is just, you know, regular two lane street. One lane one way, one lane the other way. And like I said, boom, boom, boom, three steps right across. And it happened so quick, but it happened in slow motion. Then I'm sitting there, I actually began to slow down because I'm confused at what I'm looking at. And my brain, this thing is huge in my brain. I'm thinking like, what is, what is like are these some kids playing a prank on us or something? Because it was all large black mass, it had a shine on, looked like shiny fur, for lack of a better term, not feathers, but fur. It had two legs and this fur was jet black, but the legs were like gray, gray thin legs. And it had a large red eye, I call it an eye. It was up where the head should be and it looked like a bicycle reflector. You Know when you shine a light on one of those at night, it's not internally light, but, like, it kind of glows. That's what it looked like. And in my brain, I'm trying to figure out what this is. As I'm slowing down as it's crossing the street, and I'm thinking, is this like a couple of kids, one on the other shoulders, wearing a fur coat and holding a bicycle reflector? It doesn't make any sense. And as I'm slowing down and kind of like looking at this, my friend in the passenger seat leans forward and goes, what the F is that? And then I have two friends in the back seat. The friend of the back seat sticks his head between us and goes, what the F is that? And just like a horror movie, I was instantly hit with this overwhelming sense of dread. Like, it came out of nowhere. It went from confusion, curiosity, to just, boom, dread. And I stopped slowing down. I stepped on the gas and I just gunned it. Floored it. We passed the spot that had crossed into the street, and my friend in the passenger seat, he has his face plastered to the window. We passed that spot, and he turns to me and he goes, I just saw it turn around and look at us as we drove by. I mean, I'm getting chills right now just thinking about it. This is 23 years ago or something. He's still one of my best friends to this day. We still talk about this incident, but, you know, I didn't see that part where it turned around and looked at us. I just saw it crossing the road. Out of the four of us in the car, three of us saw it. The fourth passenger, I'm not sure what she was looking at with all the commotion going on, but three of us most certainly saw this thing. It scared the crap out of us. I was the one driving, so I had to drop everyone home one by one till I'm the last one. And believe me, I've never run into my house, locked my doors, close my blinds, and hop under my covers so fast in my life. So the reason I think it was the Mothman is after the fact. I wanted to know what I saw. So you're probably familiar with the Bridgewater Triangle. I grew up in a town that is literally in the center of the triangle. This incident took place outside of it. But I'm sure weird paranormal cryptozoological events aren't limited to, you know, the straight lines on a map. But I did research. I googled. I read as much as I could to try to figure out what the closest match was. And it came down to really two things. The Jersey Devil was similar, but it definitely wasn't that. And then Mothman, it hits almost all the notes of the Mothman. It didn't really have a head that I could see. It was a solid black mass. The glowing eye, I couldn't see any wings. Not to say it wasn't wrapped around was tall. I mean it had to be 7ft tall. Plus, I know it's a long time ago and it's dark, so it's hard to gauge size, but it crossed the road in three steps. We didn't see a fly. But yeah, that was the closest that I've come to it. And then if you've read the Mothman prophecies, it's stated in that book those zones of fear or dread that were associated with it. And I'm pretty sure that's what I felt. So that's my story. Derek. I love the show. My 9 year old loves the show. He asked me to play it all the time whenever we're in the car and keep doing what you're doing. Thanks.

I love it. This is the kind of story I started the show for. I really enjoy a good monster tale. Now, as for the cross creature here, I don't know what that was, but given the state in which the experience occurred, I'm quick to point out a series of sightings that occurred nearly 50 years ago. In the spring of 1977, three separate teenagers in Dover, Massachusetts reported seeing a bizarre pale creature with glowing orange eyes, long limbs, and a watermelon shaped head. The strange creature was lurking along a dark wooded road and was witnessed over a course of two nights. The sightings described the entity as hairless, humanoid, and eerily silent, crawling around on all fours. Now, to this day, no one knows what the teens actually saw, but the legend of the Dover Demon continues to live on. But if Andrew said it was Mothman esque, then we have to believe him and to feel that sense of dread that helps sell the notion that the infamous Mothman was involved. But we appreciate the call. Regardless of what you saw, Andrew, we witty way to close out this latest Grab Bag episode and folks, that's gonna do it for this unusual little installment. A big thanks to everyone that called in here this evening and an even bigger thanks to you, dear listener, for tuning in. Tonight'S secret story. I don't know what it's about, but I'm hoping that it's weird. Please welcome Anonymous from parts unknown to the program.

Hey, Derek. I'm gonna remain Anonymous, but this was Actually, a story from my mother. This happened in eastern Jackson, Tennessee, about 1962. She was about 8 years old, and she had an older sister who was about 15 years older than her. She would often go over to her sister's house and stay for a day or two. And this is actually what happened during this instance. She had an older grandmother who lived with her and her father because her parents were divorced. I guess. One time that she was staying over at her sister's house, her grandmother suddenly passed away. When she came back home to stay at her dad's house, she actually shared a room with her grandmother. And she had passed away in that room. She didn't feel comfortable sleeping in there, so she decided to sleep on the sofa in the living room. As she was laying there falling asleep, she said she peeked into the room where the door was cracked open. And she swears she saw a dark cloud go right across the opening to the doorway. She was too scared to get up and close the door, so she kind of just put the covers over her head and rolled over. She had an uneasy feeling, so she kept rolling and she couldn't fall asleep. She laid there, and even though she tried not to, she would gaze back towards the door. After a while, she noticed that she saw a cloud go up over the door doorway and go across the ceiling, and it stopped right above her. She was frozen in fear and couldn't move. She stared at the cloud for a while and then eventually it just dissipated. After that instance, she said she moved in with her sister and never went back to that house, which I actually have confirmed with my aunt. That's all. I know that it's not really particularly super scary, but I thought it was kind of creepy. I never had any paranormal experiences myself, but loved the show and wanted to contribute in some way. Thank you. I'll talk to you soon. Bye, Derek.

Thank you, caller, for ringing in. Now, in the last Thursday episode, season 19 episode, episode 40, we featured a similar story. It was Patrick's call about his grandmother that had passed away. And years later, a strange orb was seen going from her bedroom into the bathroom. Almost identical to Anonymous story, except that Patrick skull was an orb and not a dark shadow. And Patrick's orb also blew out a light bulb, if I remember correctly. So, I don't know. Anonymous call just reminded me of Patrick's. You can go back and listen and decide for yourself now, folks. That's gonna do it for this episode. But before I duck out of here, a quick correction from last week's episode two of them. Actually, I had accidentally said that Bud Hopkins died in 1991. It was actually 2011. I crossed some wires somewhere. And I also gave Nightwolf a hard time for not taking a picture of the Sasquatch he was throwing pears at. But I didn't realize it until after the show was released that he set his call to took place in the year 1999 or 2000 or something. Well before cameras were found on cell phones. Alright folks, thank you so much for swinging by. Thanks for checking us out and I'll catch you on Tuesday with a brand new episode. Until then, keep it spooky and have yourselves a good night.
