Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Howdy everyone, and a big thanks for swinging by here this evening. I have quite the show lined up for you. Now, tonight's theme is one that is sure to touch a lot of hearts. But don't be fooled. Not every story told tonight will be cute and cuddly. Now, if you haven't guessed it yet, I'll go ahead and spill the beans. Tonight's theme is cats and dogs, those lovable little critters we share our home with, those furry family members that keep our spirits high and our furniture covered in hair. But like I'd mentioned, not all of tonight's calls are going to be positive. You'll see what I mean as tonight's program progresses. But first, let me play a story that I think most of you expect to hear tonight. Stories about pets that have returned from the afterlife. Beginning with Ben, who is calling in from the state of Wisconsin.
Caller
Hi Derek. My name is Ben. I'm from Madison, Wisconsin. You just posted a podcast on Animals that Visit, and your podcast made me remember a story that happened about five years ago, I think it was during the pandemic, when it first hit. In 2020, my husband and I lost a cat who was 18 years old. Her name was Rocky. She was awesome. She was my husband's cat, and she was one of three cats that we had at the time. And we were so lucky to know that she made it to 18 and lived a really awesome life with her other cat. And the day that she died, it was three in the morning, of course, the witching hour. But we lost her at home. She passed in our arms. And she passed, and we went to bed, and we buried her the next day. And my husband said, what do you want to do? It was a Sunday. I said, I. We gotta get out of the house. I can't be in here. The vibe is weird. The house feels weird without her. And the other two cats were acting weird. And he said, all right, let's go out for some brunch and just get out of the house. I said, okay. We have a pretty small house, about 700 square feet. And he was in the back bedroom getting ready. And I was in the living room already dressed, ready to go. And I was putting makeup on. I had my little handheld mirror, and I was just putting the final touches on, which, if you're a girl, you know, is usually like mascara blush. And so I was looking up and had my mirror held up, and I was putting my mascara on, and I had my legs crossed, and I felt one of the cats brush up against my leg. That distinct feeling when they push their butt, you know, into you and brush up. And I thought, oh, the cats are just acting so sad right now. They know that something's weird. And so I still had my head up and putting my mascara, and I said, it's okay, Cece. You know, one of the other cats. And my husband yelled from the back room. He said, hon, who are you talking to? And I go, one of the cats? And he goes, they're both back here with me. So I don't know. Take it with what you will. I know that you're a skeptic or that you take a skeptical approach, so I'd love to hear your approach on it. But there is no denying anyone who owns cats knows that feeling, that rubbing against your leg. And there was a cat rubbing against my leg, which is odd because it's my husband's cat. He was way closer with her, but I think she was sending a message to us, especially me, because I'm thin with the veil. So I think maybe she was reaching out to me because she knows my husband's an absolute skeptic. So anyways, stay spooky. Keep doing the work you're doing because I love it. Thanks, bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Ben. And I hear you. I lost my Annabelle two years ago this month. Now, we had nine and a half good years with her, but that was not nearly enough. And I'll tell you, to this day, I swear I still see her from time to time, slinking in the shadows, darting across the hall, or roaming through our darkened living room. And yes, I am a skeptic, but I'm also open minded enough to question when strange things like that happen. Besides, I'd believe in almost anything if it brought Annie back to us. So I get exactly where you're coming from, Ben. And we thank you again for sharing the phone call. Now folks, it's not just cats that seem to come back. The family pooch has also been known to do the exact same thing with a perfect example. Please welcome Tyler out of the sunshine state of Florida.
Doug Limu
Hey, Derek, this is Tyler from Florida. I've been listening to your show for a while and I finally thought it was time for me to call in. Well, I don't really hear a lot of stories about pets on your show, but I have a story that's kind of crazy that maybe a lot of people can relate to. Well, I had a puppy and my puppy passed away and a couple days afterwards I would hear like the sound the puppy would make and it would sound like it was a room away and I would hear it on days on end and I thought I was going crazy. I thought, I know I can't be hearing this puppy that I just buried outside. And it was crazy. Then I went and asked my girlfriend, I asked my sister in law and they all told me that they would hear the same noise on days on end. So then that's how I knew that I wasn't tripping and it had to be real. And you know how we can come back and maybe you watch over our loved ones or stuff like that. Maybe pets as well can too. Well, now I know they can. But yeah, that's basically my story. And thank you for your podcast. It helps me so much at work get through these long hours. Thank you again.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Tyler. See, another perfect example. And I have many more examples just like these coming up throughout the episode. But before we can visit those extraordinary stories, a quick word from tonight's sponsors.

Now. Before we move on to other topics regarding cats and dogs, I have a couple more stories just like Ben and Tyler's that I'd like to share with you. Joining us from the state of Texas, please welcome Elizabeth to the program.
Caller
Hello, I'm calling for your animal special. My name is Elizabeth and I'm from Texas. And this is regarding my cat who passed away several years ago. She was a beautiful tabby named Buttons. Anyhow, we had to unfortunately put her down due to health reasons, and we were very close. She would follow me around everywhere, but anyhow, so the following day after she passed, I was of course, really upset. You know, I was in bed crying, and my male cat, he was sitting in the room with me, checking in on me. And all of a sudden my male cat looks up to the window. There was a beam of light shining in, and he starts purring really loud. He doesn't purr very often, and he's just purring really loud, as loud as I've ever heard him. And I feel this immense sense of peace. And I know it was my beautiful girl saying bye to me. I haven't felt her since then, but I do believe it was her and I truly missed her. But thank you for listening. Keep it spooky. Thank you. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Elizabeth. Now it sounds like they might come back for more than just us. We've lost two cats since Sarah and I got together, and after each death, knowing that our surviving cats were grieving like we were is a heartbreaking notion. There's not a lot you can say to them that will help them understand. So a story like this helps ease a bit of that pain, and it makes sense. If they can come back to say goodbye to us, then certainly they can come back to say goodbye to the fellow pets they left behind. Touching stuff, Elizabeth, and we can't thank you enough for sharing. Now, folks, if you too have a story you would like to share here on the program, just give MyHotline a call. Now sometimes when these pets come back, they're not the same as they used to be. Or at least that's the claim from people like Kathy here, who's calling in from parts unknown.
Caller
Yeah, hi Derek, My name is Kathy and my story takes place in Minnesota, west of Minneapolis on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in my hometown. Takes place in the winter of 1981. 82. I thought about not calling this in, but I realized times have changed, so it's probably okay. Besides, it was a long time ago. So anyway, back then in the day.
Doug Limu
It was winter and there was like.

This massive dry spell going on. Like nobody had anything to smoke by. Dry spell is what I mean. So on my lunch break I was able to make a connection. So I asked my friend Lisa if she'd go over with me to these people's place because I didn't really know them to buy a bag and she said fine. So we went over on the lunch break. The roads around Lake Minnetonka are very narrow and very curvy. So when you pull up to this house, it's like right on the road.
Doug Limu
You kind of got to pull off to the one side but the front.
Caller
Door is like right there. So we go up and I knock on the door and nobody answered. But we could hear a dog on the other side of this door. The dog was growling and snarling and scratching that door like it was gonna come through and get us. But it never barked. It was really weird. But nobody answered. So whatever, we got in the car.

And the person got all teary eyed and said, oh, my dog was killed Saturday. It got out and went up on the road and got run over by a car. And we all look at each other and I said, no. We could hear the dog scratching and growling at the door when we came up and knocked at noon. And the person looks at us and said, yeah. The neighbors have said they've heard the.
Doug Limu
Dog too, but I haven't heard it at all. We were just like Twilight Zone. It was so crazy.
Caller
I never forgot that. So, yeah, that's my story. Thank you so much for your podcast, Monsters Among Us. It's really awesome. Have a good one, everybody, and keep it spooky. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Kathy. Yikes. A dog so vicious that it came back from the dead to guard the door and to have the neighbors admit to hearing it too. It's wild stuff and it's unsettling stuff, Kathy, but we still thank you for taking the time to leave the call, even if it did leave us a bit unnerved. Now, folks, if you can't tell already, things are going to continue to get more gnarly as we move on here this evening. We have a few stories coming up at the end that makes the dog ghost Kathy encountered sound like a teacup terrier. But before we get there, I first need to share this unusual entry from an anonymous source in Parts unknown.
Caller
Hey, Derek, I wanted to call and tell you about the time I saw my deceased mom. My mom had died in December of 2002. A little bit into 2003, we discovered that we were pregnant and we decided to not find out the gender of the baby. But my wife was very sure that it was a girl, and she picked out a very nice Celtic girl's name. Matter of fact, we didn't even have a boy's name picked out. She was so certain that it was going to be a girl. And it turns out she Was right. So that was super neat. But anyway, anybody that has ever gone through a pregnancy with their partner knows that you get kicked out of bed for snoring, for breathing, for moving or whatever. And I had gotten told to go sleep in the kids room and the kids were not with me that weekend because I previously been married, wasn't visitation for them to be there that weekend. So the bed that they had was a double bed on the bottom and a single bed on top. And so I was sleeping on the bottom and I was sleeping peacefully. And I woke up and my mom was standing four or five feet away from me. I thought I was dreaming. I said, am I dreaming? And she said, no, you're not. And I said, but you're dead. And she said, yes, I am. And she said, I want to talk to you about the name. And I knew when she said that that she meant the name of our unborn child. And I was looking at her still trying to figure out whether this is a dream or not or was this really happening. And this whole vision was cut short, unfortunately, by our cat that jumped down from the upper bunk to land right in front of me, looking directly at my mom. The cat lands and meows looking at my mom and my mom dissipates into nothing. Now, this being a dream or whatever, it couldn't have been a dream because I saw the cat come down over my shoulder and land right in front of me and meow at the direction of where my mom's ghost was standing and talking to me. This whole disturbance had made her dissipate into nothing and she went away. So I never found out what she wanted to say. And I really wasn't happy with that cat. But that's the only time she ever visited me. And so I thought it was really neat. So really like listening to your show. And so thanks a lot. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you caller, for ringing that absolutely incredible. And nine times out of 10, the cat is the ghost. And I get why you would be upset with the cat, caller. It seemingly ruined an opportunity to hear from your mother from beyond the veil. But consider this before you let yourself get too upset. We hear all the time about mimicry in the paranormal world. And we also hear a lot about dark spirits that pretend to be something or someone that they're not, simply to get closer to the experiencer. And well, if you believe in any of that, there's a distinct possibility the cat could have saved you from falling victim to something similar, something sinister. I guess what I'm saying here is that there is an off chance that although the spirit looked like your mother, she in fact was not. I'm just trying to see the silver lining here, caller. Regardless, it was an amazing story and I too want to know what she had to say about the name. What a bummer that we'll probably never know. Well, regardless, thank you again, caller, for taking the time.

Very unwritten by Liberty Mutual Insurance company and affiliates. Excludes Massachusetts. Now the dog in this next entry just might be a protector from things unseen. Welcome Ash, to tonight's program.
Caller
Hi, my name is Ash. So this story takes place around the four corner area, two hours away from Albuquerque. But this happened, I believe back in 2017 or 2018. I believe. I was a sophomore junior in high school. I literally lived middle of nowhere. Like in front of my house are like these giant rocks and behind these giant rocks is this mountain. Well, I don't know if you would call it a mountain. It's like just full of trees and I really don't know what's back there, but it's just all covered in trees. Anyways, so basically we were getting a lot of report sightings of Bigfoot at our local newspaper. And I remember it was very quiet. On the reservation is very, very quiet, lots of dogs because this will matter later in the story. So I remember it was very quiet. I was just chilling in my grandma's room and my aunt was in her room, and she was, like, doing her thing. She, like, was playing music off of the TV and stuff. And then I heard her say, ashley, like, come here. So then I go into the room and I'm like, what? Her music on her TV was paused, and, like, her window, I should say it faces towards, like, the rock slash mountain, like I was saying earlier. And she was just kind of, like, standing there, and I didn't know why she was just standing there. And I was like, what? What? And she was like, listen. And so then I was listening next to the window maybe for a good two minutes, and all of a sudden you hear, like, this really, like, roar or whatever, that big noise they make. Like, it was so, like, bone chilling. Like, literally, like my whole body just froze. It was like a. Whoa. Like, it was just so loud. I think it happened, like, two or three times. But I should say, before he did roar, the dogs and the neighbor were barking like crazy. And then when he did start to roar, the dogs just went completely quiet, like the whole neighborhood. And I thought that was pretty freaky. So, yeah, thanks again. Keep up the good work, and yeah, have a nice day.
Derek Hayes
I wonder what that could have been. Bigfoot, Dogman, or dare I say, skinwalker. Or possibly a known animal to the area. No, cougar or mountain lions do live in the area, But I don't know that their roar really fits the description that Ash gave. But a jaguar's roar certainly does. And believe it or not, those enormous big cats are spotted in the land of Enchantment from time to time. Although it has been a spell since the last confirmed sighting in the state of New Mexico, which occurred all the way back in 1996. But that doesn't mean that they're not out there. The entire southwest is their historic range, and there are still populations just south of the border there in Mexico. So this scenario is entirely possible. But what we need to realize here is that that little bark might have been enough to fend off a beautiful monster. In other words, that little pup just might be a hero. Now, a big thank you for taking the time to call Ash. Give our best to the pooch, and please be careful out there. All right, folks. Well, next up, we make our way to Tennessee, where Emma has a tale ready for us.
Caller
Hey, this is Emma from Tennessee. I have one that just happened a couple of days ago. Adapt. Oldest brother, Uncle Kenny, he just passed away after, like a year, year and a half long battle with cancer. So the house that I live in is the One that my dad grew up in. So, like, Uncle Kenny lived there, too. He was 11 years older than my dad, so he wasn't around as much because I think they moved there after my dad was born. So he wasn't there, like, as long as my dad has been, but he was there for a good bit. But this was after my dad had just gotten back from work. Uncle Kenny had passed away on a Monday. It was. Yeah, last Monday he passed. And my dad had luckily been able to go see him, like, that weekend before. Before he passed, just, like, say final goodbyes. So dad got home from work, and he was taking a nap on the couch. I was in the living room with him, and we were just talking. He was like, yeah, I think I'm gonna take a nap. So I was like, okay. I turned the TV on, had it on, like. I think I started to, like, ghost adventures on Travel Channel, you know, and dad was, like, just kind of drifting off. He hadn't quite fallen asleep yet. My dog was in my lap in the chair, and dad kind of. He saw what I was watching when I turned on, and he kind of, like, chuckled a little bit. And it freaked out my dog because I think she was kind of asleep and, like, it startled her. So she kind of, like, woke up and did her little, like, barge. Like a little gruff kind of thing, you know, and then she calmed down for a second. And then she looked in the corner, like, right behind my dad. She wasn't looking at the couch. She wasn't looking at, like, the doorway that's behind the couch. She was looking, like, apple wall right behind the couch, right next to where my dad's head was. And she just. She kept barking. Like, she was barking and growling. And it was just so weird because she's not a very, like, vocal dog. She only barks if there's, like, a mouse or a. Like a bird or something. She's not a vocal dog at all. She doesn't bart at just random stuff. Functionally not inside. It was just very strange. And it happened, you know, like the day that my uncle passed away. So dad obviously woke up at that point, and he was like, what the heck? And I'm like, I don't know. I don't know. Could have just been Uncle Kenny, you know, saying hi. You know, that's also the same house my grandfather passed in. So, like, maybe granddaddy was, like, checking up on us. Maybe Uncle Kenny was. Maybe they were together. I. I don't know. It was just weird. Nothing like that happened in a really long time. So it was just odd that, you know, that happened the day that he passed. Kind of comforting in a way, but still a little creepy. All right.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Emma. You know what they say, children and pets are spiritually closer to the other side, which gives them better clarity with their third eye. At least that's what they say. Now, after compiling this episode here tonight, I'm starting to believe that because there are just too many examples of pets noticing things from the other side. And as an uncle myself, if I died and came back as a ghost and the only one in the household that could see me was the dog, well, I would do all that I could, too, to get that dog's attention. So you might be onto something here, Emma, and you're certainly on to a good story, and we thank you again for making the effort to share it. Now, folks, before we get this next entry started, let's first quickly go through a few dog tidbits, interesting little facts about our canine friends, and we begin with Hinduism. It acknowledges the loyalty and companionship of dogs. An example of this is tr, a five day festival meant to honor dogs. Celebrated in various parts of India. The celebration is meant to worship the gods related to death. And dogs are part of this celebration as they are closely related to the God of death, Yamahara. To the ancient Germanic peoples of central Europe, the wolf was more than just an animal. It was a force of nature, revered, respected, and in many cases, deeply feared. Some ancient Germanic people believe that meeting a wolf along a road was a sign of good fortune and a blessing for the journey ahead. But old stories warn that not every wolf was a creature of flesh and bone. Some were spirits, part of a dangerous class of fairies known as the Fieldgeister or the field spirits. These spectral wolves were unpredictable guides and protectors to a lucky few, but ruthless predators to all the rest. And among them lurked the dreaded green wolves, spectral beasts said to haunt the fields at night, hunting the most vulnerable of prey. Wandering children and the jackal gods are among the most recognizable and vivid symbols of ancient Egypt. These dogs, also known as death dogs, were protective and helpful to the ancient Egyptians, assisting them from death into the afterlife. Anubis, the jackal headed human bodied God of death, was specifically prevalent in the culture. And did you know that Devin is here from North Carolina and he has a puzzling story about a dog that will leave you pondering for days. Take it away, Devin.
Caller
Hey Derek, this is Devin from North Carolina and I kind of wanted to send you this story because I'm not exactly sure how to classify it, whether it's a Mandela effect or a time slip or maybe I'm just going crazy. So maybe you can give me some input here. But my wife and I have been living in our development now for about four years, and our development is a big circle. So you could start walking from our house and end up back at our house. So every evening we take these walks. And I remember the first year we were living there, we would come up on this house that had a border collie. And this border collie was in the front yard and he was on an invisible fence. So he had an electric collar that once he would get so far away from it, it would zap him or beep. And this dog was a very aggressive dog. He would snarl at you, he would growl and bark and foam at the mouth. And you could tell, like, he wasn't a friendly dog. And I always remember telling my wife, like, man, if this dog ever gets off, like, we are screwed here. And so the other night we were taking a walk, and we were walking with some neighbors that have been in development just as long as we have. And out of nowhere we'd come up on this house. I just kind of was like, hey, do you guys remember the black and white border collie that used to live here? He was real aggressive. And without missing a beat, they all three looked at me and said, what are you talking about? What border collie? And I kind of stopped and, like, looked at them for a second, waiting on them to kind of be like, oh, we're just joking with you. Like, yeah, we remember. But they didn't. Like, they had a genuine look of confusion on their face. And so I was like, you guys don't remember this border collie at all? And they legit. Like, they were like, no, we don't. Like, what are you talking about? So for the rest of the walk, I had spent, like, trying to convince them that there was this black and white border collie that lived at this house that was, like, really aggressive. And they still didn't have any idea what I was talking about. So we had got back to the house that evening, and my wife and I, we were watching tv and I was still, like, pressing her. Like, how do you not remember this dog? Like, we were walking together and talked about this dog together, and she ended up, like, snapping at me. She's like, would you let it go? Like, I don't know what you're talking about. Like, quit bringing it up. So that night, I legit couldn't sleep, I was laying awake, like trying to figure out if I was going crazy, if I had made the whole thing up or if, like, I don't know what to think right now. So I've almost contemplated going and knocking on the guy's door to ask him if he ever had a border collie, which is probably what I should do so I can like sort of bring myself some peace of mind. But I'd like to hear what you think, man, because I don't know, I don't know if this is like a Mandela effect or. Or maybe I. I hope I didn't slip into some kind of time warp. Feel like I'm going crazy now. So love to hear what you think, man. Love the podcast. Keep up the good work man, and I'll talk to you guys later. See you.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Devin. I agree, it does sound like the Mandela effect to me. A phenomena where large groups of people remember an event detailer fact differently from how it actually occurred, creating the illusion of an alternate reality or a false collective memory. In Devin's world, the dog existed, but in everyone else's world, it did not. Now, you asked for my opinion here, Devin, and this is the best advice that I can give on such short notice. Go to Google Maps Street View and see if that dog is in any of the images. Now, they keep moving this option around, but somewhere on the page you can actually go back in time to look at previous dates that the company had captured. Now, if you don't find anything with Google Maps, you should try Bing and Yahoo, if they still do Maps anywhere. That might give you an image of the dog sitting there in the yard. And if you can find one, well, I think your troubles are over. But if you don't see the dog in any of the images, I'm afraid that's as far as I can take you. Now, stories like this are pretty awesome, and they make the show better each time I play one. So thank you again, Devin, for your contribution to tonight's episode. Born out of a love of great.

Hi Derek, this is Kelly from Florida. I'm just thinking about your big cat stories and it's not a story of mine, but the podcast I'm listening to right now, 591 on the confessionals. And there's a man talking about the Klick Attack ape cat. It's a big black cat in Washington state that people have been seeing and it has ape like features. Little twist I've never heard before. Okay. If you're interested, take a listen. Talk to you later. Love the show. Bye bye.
Derek Hayes
Now, I've heard that name before, but I've never had the thought to learn more. So thank you, Kelly, for bringing it up. But for those of you that are curious and don't know about the Klickitat ape Cat, sit tight because I'm about to educate you. In the hills of Washington's Klickitat county, locals whisper about a ape cat, a massive long tailed predator sent to stalk the dense forests and river valleys of the region, slipping in and out of detection by the COVID of night. Described as part mountain lion, part primate, folks in the area report hearing its cry on dark nights. Farmers claim that it's taken livestock, and anyone that spent time in the area can tell you that it feels like the Klickitat ape cat is always watching. Of course, you can hit up the show notes to learn more about this cantankerous cryptid. But something tells me this won't be the last time that we discuss this creature here on the program. So until then, thank you again, Kelly, for making the suggestion. Now with phantom cats on the mind, please welcome this next submitter, Rick from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Welcome to tonight's show.
Doug Limu
Hi Derek, this is Rick from Virginia. I'm a paranormal researcher and investigator. I also investigate cryptid reports, specifically the Dogman phenomena with the North American Dogman Project. The reason I'm calling is I know you're interested in big cat reports like Black panthers around the U.S. we had a case in August 2019. It came about from an article we found in a North Carolina newspaper. The article had something to do with an unknown animal attack that killed a elderly retired teacher. She was found in a ditch near Pantago, North Carolina which is in Beaufort County. She went to the hospital and subsequently, you know, succumbed to her injuries. A subsequent autopsy showed that she had unknown canine DNA on her body. So we went down there in August of 2019 and conducted an on site investigation. As part of that on site investigation, we looked at at a local wildlife management area not far from the kill site. While in this management area we found some rather unusual footprints on a dirt road. I took photographs of these footprints with scale and they appeared to be from a big cat. I took the photographs and sent them to a wildlife biologist that we know and he said that they were definitely from a big cat, a very large cat because of the size of the prints. We also did some more research and found that residents in the area have been reporting a black panther type creature roaming the wooded areas. So I'm wondering if this attack was a result of this panther or barred cat rather than a canine type creature. I will send you the link to the news article as well as photographs of these footprints to scale. You make up your mind. Anyway, thanks for a great podcast. You're doing a good job. Keep up the good work. Take care and see you later. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you Rick. Absolutely brutal. I remember this attack and how tragic it was. Now I don't normally share media clips on Tuesday episodes, but Rick's claim was a big one. And since there is actual news coverage to back it up, I felt like sharing this short clip was warranted. So courtesy of WITN New 7 out of Eastern North Carolina. Here are the details of that heartbreaking event.
Caller
77 year old Brenda Hamilton was killed back on February 15th while she was walking on Indian Run Road outside of Pantego. She was in her 51st year of teaching at Pungo Christian School Academy. Deputies say that Hamilton was found in a ditch submerged in water to her shoulders. Neighbors awakened by their barking dogs found them near Hamilton and alerted authorities. She died several days later.
Derek Hayes
Now from what I hear, the DNA tests have come back with a positive match to a canine, but exactly which Canine and what kind they still do not know, leaving a few to suspect a dogman attack, if I'm understanding the claims correctly. Now I did look for those photographs that Rick said he sent in, but I was not able to locate it in the sea of emails in my inbox. But if I somehow missed it, Rick, I'm sorry, but if you could resubmit it, be sure to post it up in the show notes. Like I said, it's wild and heartbreaking stuff Rick, and we thank you again for not only investigating this event, but for sharing the story as well. Well, I have one more story to share before our final ad break of the evening. So let's bring back Mac all the way from Illinois.
Doug Limu
Hey Derek, this is Mac from central Illinois. At the time it was about 98, I had just come in to start my shift at work and some of my co workers were talking about a friend of one of theirs who was an insurance adjuster. This insurance adjuster had taken some pictures of a vehicle that was taken to the shop and most of the pictures there was nothing out of the ordinary. Unfortunately I did not get to see these pictures because I had just walked in after the guy had left. I was only hearing the description of what was going on, but apparently he was looking through the pictures and saw something that wasn't there when he took the pictures. Like I said, most of them were just damage of the car, but there was five pictures they said from the front of the car looking in. And inside the car in five of these pictures was what they described as basically a devil dog of some kind. The first picture it was in the driver's seat of the car is looking out and then as the next four pictures progress, the let's call it an entity I guess had made a half circle and then by the last picture it disappeared. I thought that was very interesting and I really wish I could have seen those pictures, but I was just a little late and they were kind of unwilling to talk about it anymore after that, which made me kind of skeptical on that. But still very interesting if it really was true. Have a good one.
Derek Hayes
Thanks Mac. I too would love to see these pictures. A devil dog. I wonder what the association was there. One's imagination could drive you crazy trying to place the connections. Perhaps the dog was involved in the accident somehow, or perhaps it was a passenger in the vehicle that had crashed. Or maybe there's something tied to the construction of the vehicle or maybe the land in which the junked car was sitting. Whatever it was like I said I, too, wish I could have laid eyes on it. But despite that, we thank you, Mac, for sharing the phone call. And if you ever happen to come across those photographs, by all means, send them in.

And we're back. And I have a couple more creepy cats and dogs to share with you here tonight. Do you remember a while back when I said that spirits like to imitate, mimic and copy the living? Well, here with a prime example is James out of the state of Alabama.
Doug Limu
Hi, my name is James Compost. I recently moved from California to Alabama. May 9, 2024, officially moved. I moved with my wife and my son at the time. I had another son in November 2024 when we moved from California. I moved with my dad in California. I never, you know, lived near the woods. It was mostly like suburban life, you know, neighbor after neighbor. They didn't really have so much open land before. Six months after I moved California to Alabama, I ended up getting my own place about an hour away from my dad. My dad lives about 45 minutes from Huntsville. I live about an hour away from a town called Town Creek. So on my Property, I have 5.7 acres of land. Like I said before, I, you know, never experienced so much land before. Never got a chance to live near the woods. So a lot of these experiences that I'm having are new. So this was on a Sunday. I moved in on a Friday. I was unpacking things, getting everything situated on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday morning around 5am I woke up earlier than my wife and my son, eager to get everything put away, get the day started, get the house in order, how I want it to be at the Time I had two dogs, I went ahead and I let them out in the morning. I have a super long driveway, about tenth of a mile. So my dog's name is Rupert, and I have Olive. I'm letting Rupert and Olive, you know, sniff around, go look around. And I'm outside watching them and looking at the scenery. I don't have any neighbors. You know, it's really pretty outside and whatnot where I live at. So I'm sitting there outside. I'm, you know, letting the dogs go do their thing. I'm standing up in the front near the living room windows as my dogs are going down the driveway. I clearly have eyes on them. I'm watching them as they're going down the driveway. I can hear my wife. What I heard her say. It sounded like she was either in my living room or more so, towards the right of the house. It definitely sounded like she was in the home. I heard her call for my dog's name. She said, rupert. And I looked back, and I didn't see you in the living room. But I kind of called back to her, and I said, hey, don't worry about it. I can see Rupert. I have my eyes on Rupert, you know, don't worry about it. I was like, that's weird. You know, she was just sound asleep in the bed not even that long ago. I just got up and, you know, took the dog's go potty. She was in bed along with my son. So I'm like, huh? So I look at Rert. Re's ears went up. He turned around when he heard his name being called. So I call him my dogs. We go inside, and I'm looking in the living room, and I'm like, you know, where's my wife? I had just heard her. She couldn't be too far. She must be in the living room or the restroom or something like that. So I look in the living room. I don't see nobody. I look in the kitchen. I don't see anybody look in the restroom, and she's not in the restroom either. And I'm like, okay. So I go back to the room, and she still sound asleep in bed. I wake her up to ask her if she went outside to, you know, call Rupert or what. She just upset for a second, and she woke up. She was like, no, I haven't been up. I've been sleeping this whole time. So I'm not too sure who or what called my dog's name, but it had my wife's voice, and it sounded pretty close anyways. Thank you. Have a good day.
Derek Hayes
We appreciate the call, James. And listen, the best case scenario here is probably when I of those ghost of the living situations, somehow James wife's voice was recorded and played back as a ghostly disembodied vocalization. A suburban version of the stone tape theory, perhaps. For those of you that are familiar with that concept, again, that's best case. Worst case is that something thing out there was mimicking people in an attempt to lure in the family pet for God knows what reason. You know, we probably don't want to know. But I do want to thank you, James for sharing the entry. And believe it or not, it's not the last mimicry story I have to share with you here tonight. It's funny how that happens. But before I do that, I first need to give cats their 60 seconds. Here are a few random tidbits about our feline friends. The cat Sith is a fairy found in Scottish folklore. The cat sith is a giant black cat with a small white spot on its chest and the ability to steal a dead person's soul out of fear. The tradition of late wake began which required guarding the body before burial. In an effort to keep the cat Sith away, people would jump around a lot or lure away the fairy with catnip. In British folklore, cats refuse to enter the home of someone about to die. Some say a cat can also predict whether a dead person is going to heaven or hell. If the house cat ascends up a tree after someone's passing, the deceased person is going to heaven. But if the cat descends, well, they're going to hell. And in Japanese culture, black cats are a symbol of good luck and they are viewed as particularly important to single women, as having a black cat is believed to lure in many fine suitors. In Russia, all cats are viewed as lucky. And here, with one more creepy cat account, is Dee Dee out of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Caller
Hey Derek, it's Dede calling from Massachusetts, halfway between the land of the Dover.
Doug Limu
Demon and the Bridgewater triangle. This was over 50 years ago when I was a child and it happened just on the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts. The grandparents lived in a triple decker home just on the edge of Boston. And it was a big treat for my brothers and I to have a weekend there with my grandparents away from, you know, the family home out in the suburbs. We'd stay with Nana and Pa and would get some good food and have some fun adventures.
Caller
Well, this was a night when I.
Doug Limu
Was sleeping in a back bedroom off the kitchen of Their home. And this bedroom also opened up onto a stone patio that was on the second floor. They lived on the second floor. And it was over a little courtyard of, you know, cement in the backyard where they had a clothesline that they would hang their clothes. And it was almost like a little balcony.
Caller
They called it the piazza.
Doug Limu
And this bedroom opened onto the piazza.
Caller
So it was a small bedroom.
Doug Limu
And I was tucked into bed, you know, fairly early in the evening. And I'd lay there for maybe an hour or so, kind of thinking of what I was going to do the next day. And, you know, just things that a kid thinks of when they're about, you know, 10 or 11 years old. And I was feeling quite happy and comfortable. I wasn't nervous or, you know, frightened in any way. And as I was laying there, just kind of, you know, replaying the events of the day and thinking about the day to come, I suddenly heard somebody call my name. And it seemed to be coming from out on the stone piazza. And it was almost like a stage whisper, a loud whisper of my name. And at first I was intrigued, and then the second time I heard it, it became frightened. I don't really know why, but I knew that no one in the neighborhood really knew my name. It was kind of a city neighborhood and, you know, nobody really knew me or knew that I was there necessarily. So it was a little frightening.
Caller
And at that time in my life.
Doug Limu
I was very fond of animals. And my mom did not like animals, and particularly any kind of fur bearing animal. Well, I was in love with cats and dogs and cats especially at that time. And I desperately wanted a cat for a pet, but my mom would not allow it. And that's just a little backstory to let you know what happened next. The voice that called my name twice suddenly started to make a meowing sound also emanating from this piazza area that was outside the bedroom, as though it were luring me to go out there. At this point, I knew something was up, something that wasn't normal or natural. And I knew it wasn't a cat, but something imitating a cat. And I was instantly terrified to the point where I suddenly felt paralyzed with fear. I scrunched down underneath the covers and pulled the blankets and sheets as high above my head as I could. And I got down into the middle portion of the bed and I could barely breathe.
Caller
But I started to pray.
Doug Limu
I just started to pray. Please, please, whatever this is, God, make it go away. Please, please, God, make it go away. And the next thing I knew, I Woke up, and it was morning.
Caller
So I went out into the kitchen.
Doug Limu
Area where Nana and Pa were, and I started to tell them what had happened during the night. And as I spoke, I looked at my grandmother's face, and she looked terrified. She was looking at my grandfather, and she just had the most frightened look on her face. And my grandfather said, now, Nell, don't be scaring her.
Caller
And then he looked at me and.
Doug Limu
He said, don't listen to your grandmother. She's from the old country.
Caller
She believes in the little people.
Doug Limu
Don't listen to her now. So my grandmother and grandfather just looked at each other, and they both had nervous looks on their face. And my grandmother began to tell me a story. When she had first come to this country from Ireland and married my grandfather, they lived in this same house where my story takes place. And my grandmother told me that my grandfather was a policeman on the night shift. And when he would go out at night, she would hear strange sounds emanating from that same room that I had been sleeping in. She would hear footsteps, and she had a small dog at the time. And the dog would growl and refuse to go in the room. He would bark at the room occasionally. And night after night, my grandmother would hear footsteps. So, being religious, you know, strict Catholic.
Caller
From Ireland, the thing to do was.
Doug Limu
To call the local priest. And they did that. They called the priest. He came, blessed the house. And after that night, it continued. The strange sounds, the noises, the footsteps continued to happen. And finally, the passageway between that room and the room where the footsteps seemed to be going had been boarded up. And my grandmother hung a picture of her favorite saint, St. Teresa, over the doorway. And eventually the sound stopped. Now, I should tell you that I come from a large Irish Catholic family, and I have five brothers and a sister. Two or three of my brothers had also stayed over for the weekend, you know, at various times throughout the years in that same room. And nothing happened. They didn't sense anything. They didn't hear any voices, nothing.
Caller
And it was just me.
Doug Limu
But from the look on my grandmother's face when I told her what had happened, I knew that I wasn't imagining things. And from my grandfather's reaction also, he was telling her to not tell me anything and that she would frighten me. And I felt as though that was him trying to calm the fears of a child, but that he knew also that something strange had happened. I never stayed over their house. I never slept in that house again.
Caller
So that was the first and last.
Doug Limu
Time that I spent the night in that house and I felt strongly that whatever happened to me was not normal and was supernatural in nature.
Caller
So thanks Derek. I'm a huge fan.
Doug Limu
I've been listening to your show for years now. I really appreciate what you do. Thanks so much. Bye bye.

Thank you. Dede, A phenomenal story and one of those rare stories where you kinda hope that whatever's going on is paranormal in nature. Because my first thought here was that there might be a human being out there trying to lure you outside by making cat noises. Apparently.
