Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Boy, is it great to be back with you fine folks. The break was nice and all, but we have stories to share and since I'm not one for chit chat and since we have quite a bit to get through here this evening, let's just launch right into it. So please welcome C. Out of the state of Idaho.
Caller
Hi there. You can call me C. I'm from Idaho. I actually was gonna submit a different story, but I was listening to the most recent episode where hey caller described some people in beige. I honestly thought that that story was kind of silly until she mentioned the dressed in beige part. So this is probably about six to eight years ago, but me and my then partner were driving in Seattle and we were driving home from a concert late at night. This was probably July or August and we go up on this small town outside Seattle aways. It's kind of shut down the night it seemed. There's no one around, the lights are on, it's McDonald's and no one's in the parking lot. It's kind of odd. There's signs that 24 hours, absolutely nobody there. And as we're driving, we just see this man dressed in a beige suit, carrying a briefcase. Now, keep in mind this is like past Seattle. So this is kind of a woods area. And he has no flashlight, he has no headlamp or anything. He just has a briefcase and he's walking into the woods.
Yeah, it's kind of creepy.
Thanks for podcast. Love you.
Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, C. I guess we're starting things off on a stranger note here this evening. Now, I think many of you had the same thought that I probably did. That's why I had Delaney scour missing persons records in search of some sort of connection, perhaps even a match. But sadly, without further details, she wasn't able to locate anything substantial. Now, if I let my imagination run here, it's not hard to conjure up ghost stories about mafia, hitmen, etc. But I don't know the woods outside of Seattle to be a mafioso hotspot. But maybe I'm wrong or maybe it was part of a prank or a social experiment of some sort. To what end, I have no idea. But I do know that we enjoyed your entry, C. So thank you again for calling in. Now working our way down the coast, we meet up with Josh in the golden state of California. Josh, you're on the air.
Caller
Hi there Derek. This is Josh from California and I'm catching up on your podcast right now. I was listening to season 12 episode 2.5 where I believe a Jake from Ohio described some like phantom headlights in the rearview mirror of his car. And it jog my memories of a story that I wanted to share with you that I experienced with one of my friends. This was up here, the American River. We would go fishing fairly often and so we would be leaving early in the morning many times while it was still dark out. And he had described to me previously that he had seen these sort of phantom headlights before. And I didn't really believe him at first until I was with him one time and we were on our way to our usual fishing spot and he said to me, do you see those headlights behind us? And I looked in the rearview mirror and I did see them and you know, I assumed that it was just a regular car. It was approaching rather quickly and it seemed like that they were tailgating us. My friends pulled over to the side of the road rather quickly and no car passed us. So he pulled back onto the road and we didn't see any cars that had passed us to no cars behind us, so we didn't really know what to make of that. And this happened probably two more times after this on the same stretch of road, which I don't remember off the top of my head. But yeah, I figured I should call in. Thank you for your time. I love the podcast and I hope to hear this on the air.
Derek Hayes
Thank you Josh for calling in. Now I have expected Josh's story to end with a giant black truck triangle hovering above his vehicle. Because there are a number of black triangle UFO sightings that go exactly the way Josh's story did. In fact, we just discussed a few of them on a recent episode, now that I think about it. But none of that ever happened with Josh. There was no mammoth triangle ufo, just a mystery set of headlights that seemingly disappeared. As if that's not any spookier. Well, regardless of what it was, it's wild stuff. Josh, we thank you again for the tale. Alright gang, it's time for a brief break, but I'll be right back with more spookiness in just a moment.

And I'm back and moving right along. We hear from Brittany in Parts Unknown.
Caller
Hey Derek, this is Brittany. I'm out of the South. Don't really want to say the statistic Area. My mom, she passed away six months ago. And we had a very troubled relationship, to say the very least. And I remember it was a few days after she passed. And I was going through pictures of her to put together for the memorial. And I was home alone, so I was bawling my eyes out. And I kind of said, you know, to the universe or just to the room, I miss you. And one of the dogs ended up having to go do this little potty dance. They had to go outside. So I sat my phone on the dining room table. And then when I came back a few minutes later, there was a dime face up on the lower right hand corner of my phone. Now, I did have a phone case on there. So if you're well aware, there is going to be like a little lip on the phone case. So it was perfectly sat on the corner on top of the phone case, not touching the phone. And my mom, she had always loved the idea of loved ones that have passed leaving dimes. My sister had passed about three years prior. And she was always looking for dimes. She just wanted to know that they were there. So as soon as I saw this dime sitting on the corner of my phone, I knew this was her, without a doubt in my mind. And as soon as I saw that, I just, of course, broke down. And I knew she was just telling me that she's okay and that she loves me. A few days later, I forget the circumstances behind it, but I did find another dime. And it was just kind of sitting out, not where you would expect to find a random dime. But, yeah, I feel like that with my mom. I hope she's with my sister. And, yeah, I just thought I'd let you know. Thank you.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Britney. And we're sorry for your loss. Now I can see why Britney would make this assumption that it was her mother that left the dime. I mean, where else could it possibly have come from that almost seems like the most obvious cause of this strange event? And what is it about dimes in the ghostly realm anyway? I think this is the third or possibly fourth call that I've received that mentions the very same detail. Dimes left by the dead. Well, it's heartwarming when you think about it, I guess. Especially if you're saving up your money. Thank you again, Brittany, for sharing the call. Now, gang, if you have a story you would like to share, call the hotline at 8886 oh, eight night. That's 888608 N I G H T. Or you can record Your story as a voice memo on your phone and email the file to me at monsters among us podcastmail.com it's all super simple. So once again, that's 888-6089 and we look forward to taking your call now. I also look forward to sharing this next entry with you. So here's James out of the Lone Star state of Texas.
Caller
Hey, Derek. This is James from Texas. So I'm driving right now in Fort Worth on i30, right by downtown Fort Worth. And it's about 46 degrees outside. It is just per second. So I'm driving in traffic, just sitting there looking at the stars because it's.
Starting to go dark.
It's right at dusk and I see like a ball of light that's kind of muted. It looks like, you know, it's like a light behind a cloud is what it looks like, right? It catches my eye, but all of a sudden it's just like, wait a second, that can't be a cloud because it's moving way too fast. And sure enough, this thing continues to go and all of a sudden I see it's blowing white smoke rings in the front of it, not in the back of it, but in the front of it. It's blowing like these smoke rings and it's kind of going through these smoke rings. So overall look of it was it was a bright white, but it was almost like it was clouded in a mist or in a like bubble, if you will. Almost like you're looking at something underwater in a bubble. That's what it looked like. Like let's say you have a ping pong ball and you have a bubble blown around it and it's going through the water. That's what it looked like. It was kind of grainy. It just did look right. So it just flew across the sky. Every time I tried to get my video zoomed in, traffic would start moving, so I had to move. So I tried to get videos of it, but unfortunately I couldn't. So very crazy. It's already gone. It moved pretty darn quick through the sky like an airplane. And it was somewhat lower like an airplane, but it was completely surrounded in this bubble mist, almost like plasma. And it was going through that. And the weirdest thing that really caught my eye in the beginning was it shooting out the smoke rings in the front of it. Anyway, thought it was crazy. And there is the Lockheed air base over here. So I'm sure it's probably something to do with military, but just wanted to share it with you while it's right here and I just witnessed it. Thanks a lot for the podcast. We'll talk to you soon.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, James. Well, I might have solved this mystery, but before we dive into that, James actually called back in later that evening with more thoughts on his experience. So here is the second half of that call.
Caller
Hey Derek, it's James from Texas calling back about that possible UFO I just saw over Fort Worth. I was able to think about it and process it a little bit more and I guess what it may could have been is some space debris entering the atmosphere. And that smoke ring and that bubble around it could be the heat maybe from it entering the atmosphere. But it wasn't going as fast as a shooting star by any means, and not even as fast as the jets that you see all the time here flying from the Lockheed period. It seems like it's going about double the speed of an airline because I was looking at an airline flyby as I continue to drive and it was going probably about twice that speed and it seemed to be at the same height. So I don't know, man. And now that I think about it, it did have, at one point it did have almost a saucer shape to the bubble or the mist to it. So I don't know, I don't know what to say. All I know, it was crazy. I can't believe I saw it while sitting in traffic. It's kind of fun, but just wanted to reach back out and give you those more details and again, appreciate everything. Talk to you soon.
Derek Hayes
Now, the object in action that James described, at least to me, sounds awfully similar to one of these Falcon X rockets. And that donut or bubble shape that was seemingly emitted from the craft, well that sounds like the fairing separation stage of a rocket launch where it drops its protective cone allowing the contents to continue on to space. Now I say that it sounds like that because oftentimes these fairing separations can create beautiful vortex rings of smoke and gas high up in the atmosphere, exactly like James just described. In fact, I have a video of just such a separation over in the show notes, coincidentally taken just six short days after James had his sighting. So everyone go quickly take a look at monsters among us podcast.com and click on the Show Notes tab. James specifically should have a look because I'm awfully curious how close of a match we have here. Oh and to help sell the idea that this was a Falcon 9 rocket, there was a launch the very evening of James Experience, December 2, 2025. There's a link in the show notes with the schedule and a video of the actual launch. So case closed or am I way off? You explore the evidence and come to your own conclusion. But in the meantime, thank you again James for sharing the report. Now, from bright objects in the sky to dark objects in the bathroom, please welcome Morgan out of Arizona.
Caller
Hey there, my name is Morgan, I'm from Phoenix. But my encounter with whatever I saw happened in Austin, Texas while I was on a business trip. I was in a hotel and it was probably like 2am I woke up and I looked at my phone and I think I was checking my emails because I had slept late because it was just so hot and I was just very tired from working and for some reason I looked to my left towards the bathroom and what I saw, it stunned me and made all feeling just drain from my body. I seen a person just staring at me from the bathroom. Like full black figure, no distinguishable features on them, but they were just peeping from around inside the bathroom. And it took me a minute to understand what I was staring at. But once I did I just stove under the blanket that I was holding onto and my heart was beating really fast and it kind of is now. It was so recent. After a few minutes of collecting my thoughts I knew that I had to get up. So I reached from under the blanket to the lamp, turned it on and came up from under the covers just ready, expecting a fight and I walked over towards the bathroom. Nothing was there. I turned on all the lights, I walked over to the hotel window, open the window, it was dark out. I'm not really sure what happened there. From that night on I kind of slept with the lights on because I was afraid to wake back up and look towards the bathroom and see something staring at me. And I did mention it to a couple other co workers that were there in the same hotel and one of them told me that every night that he would go to bed he just felt like he was being watched. And he also told me that one night his blanket just went flying off. And from what he told me is that he told it to leave him alone and then he just didn't have anything else happen. But what really freaked me out is that some of the other people I told it to told me it could have been the door, it could have been maybe a shadow or something. But like Once my eyes adjusted to the darkness and I seen a person or a shadow just standing there staring at me, it probably would have made all the color drain from my face.
How shocked I was.
Nothing like that happened the rest of the trip, but it'll probably stick with me for a while. I really like your show.
Thank you.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Morgan. You know, I would never not be able to think about those figures each and every time that I stepped foot in that bathroom. Super creepy stuff. And speaking of creepy stuff, I have plenty of it in store for you right after this quick break.

Hi, I love the show. My name is Laura and I'm calling from Northeast Kansas. My experience I guess actually happened last night. It is August 31st of 2024 today. So yesterday was Friday and my husband and I had just gotten in the hot tub. It was dark, it was cool for all of the hot weather we had been having, and the night was clear, the sky was clear. And I was looking up into the stars like I normally do, looking for shooting stars and things like that. And I looking at the stars and I see something brighter than everything else. And I'm just thinking, oh, cool, it's an airplane. Because obviously we always see airplanes when I'm looking up in the sky and things like that. And then I noticed that it was a lot brighter than everything else. And it wasn't flashing and it was very round and very bright, like white. It was about what looked like the same distance of the rest of the stars. It was super clear. And then I noticed that it's also.
Moving, moving very slow.
But I can kind of see in my sight line. I'm kind of gauging how far it's moving just to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. And I could see it moving farther along, like this big tree that stands over our house. And then it gets really bright. Not really bigger, but bright. And then all of a sudden it just starts going out. Like the brightness slowly decreases and then it's gone. I can follow it for a little while and then there's nothing. I didn't hear any sounds. The sky looked normal, but it was like nothing that I had ever seen before. And I'd always, you know, hear people talking about UFOs and different things that they see in the night sky that are definitely unexplained. Well, this was my first unexplained. Whatever that was in the sky, no idea what it was, but it was something like I had never seen before. So thanks again and have a good night. I enjoy your show, especially your voice. It's wonderful. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Why, thank you, Laura. That's mighty kind of you. Now, if you want to see something weird, get yourself a hot tub. We've seen all sorts of strange things while sitting in ours. Just be sure to have a flight tracker app and a sky map handy while you're looking because trust me, you're going to see something that you're going to want to investigate. Laura knows what I'm talking about, so another big thanks to her for taking the time to share her account. Now, folks, I'm not quite sure how to categorize this next one, but that usually means it's going to be a wild one. So please welcome EB out of my state of California.
Caller
Hey, Derek from California, Long Beach. Call me Eb. And yeah, my story is about when I was in high school. For about nine, 10 years now. I think I was a sophomore or junior. This is the night time. I remember it being rainy and I had my window open and I like to have the fresh breath going. And I used to have a yoga mat on the floor. So you know when someone's walking on it, you tell it has like a little sticky feeling on it. So I was sleeping and I was facing towards my room. My bed is pushed against the wall, but I'm sleeping facing everything. And I just kind of remember when you wake up, but your eyes are like, I guess you don't want to open them because, you know. But I remember being fully awake. I just didn't want to open my eyes. I just remember feeling that. And what I was hearing was like footsteps. It honestly sounded like a horse or a goat, something with hooves, just walking on my mat, pacing back and forth, like it was just watching me. So I was so scared. I remember telling myself, like, oh my God, what the hell is happening? I was like, ev, don't open your eyes. You do not want to see it. Like, do not open your eyes. Then I finally had the courage to turn around. So I ended up turning around, facing the wall, having my back towards it. And I just remember the whole time too, kind of just like talking myself through it and also just kind of talking to God and being like, I know I don't talk to you much, but if you're here, I need you to please do your thing and get this thing away from me. And I was just kind of talking to God, but at the same time, like, I always think like, oh, there's no way I'm having sleep paralysis. Because usually people say like, you can't move or you can't do anything, but obviously I turned myself around. So I was like, I don't know what this is and I don't know what is happening, but the hooves pacing back and forth and one day I can hear it breathing. That was another thing that freaked me out. It was just like literally like how horses breathe. And it's just like, like a deep breath and a sighing and the way his hooves were like walking on my yoga mat. I think that's what creep me out the most because I usually didn't have my yoga mat out. And I was like, of all times, I finally have it on. Some creepiness wants to happen. So I never laid it out ever again after that. I ended up falling asleep. I just ended up like praying throughout the whole night, just kind of telling myself prayers that I remembered just on repeat in my head and I image you fell asleep. And when I woke up the next morning to get ready for school, I just felt so creeped out because in the corner of my room, like in the top corner, I'm getting chills just even talking about it. I just felt like the energy in that corner that I was giving off was just like pure evil. And I ended up just being so creeped out. I changed in the bathroom and I was like, ew, I cannot do this. And I didn't sleep in my room that night. I slept on the couch and I was just so creeped out. That's my story. Love your podcast. Keep up the great work and I keep on listening. Ciao.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, eb. Well, what do you think here folks? Is this a weird sleep paralysis episode? One in which EB could still somehow move her body? Or perhaps this was a demonic figure somehow summoned by or attracted to that yoga mat. Or maybe it was the ghost of a horse that somehow made its way into EB's bedroom. Whatever it was, it made for a harrowing tale. So thank you again EB for sharing. Now folks, don't forget about our merchandise shop. Caller
Hi, my name's Amber and I'm from the Portland metro area in Oregon. So in 2017, around Christmas time, my husband and I were in a situation. Our roommate decided that they wanted to have the house and we had to move out. And so it was kind of a rush to find things and move all these aspects of our life. And my grandmother, who had very deep, deep onset dementia, was non verbal for about two years at that point. She was witchy to say the least. She has always had this knack and natural ability. Back in the 60s and 70s, she had like a, I think it was due to blood sugar, like hypoglycemia. She just passed out and she was in a coma for three months and she came back from said coma after being hospitalized and everything and could recollect everything from what her boys were doing and what her husband was doing and the things that were happening. Her aunt had come to visit and take care of the boys, and her mother had stepped in, and she was able to give the details from her. Just Astra projecting out of this coma, just stuff like that. Her whole life. Very into the occult, very into supported nature and, like, healing trees. I mean, for the time, but also, like, she's pretty cool, but she hadn't been verbal for quite some time. And I was moving, and I had a bunch of her tambourines in the back. Her and her husband, along with being super awesome and they're supernatural, loved music, and they always played folky music. And I was moving her tambourines to our new house, and I heard this beat out of the tambourines, and I said, what? And I kind of turn around. I'm on this dark road, and I pull the car over, and I'm like, that was a. There's no way that the car could have done that. And I turn around and I look in the back, and there's nothing there. Just boxes. And I turned back to the steering wheel. And my hands, my own hands are glowing this, like, ambery golden with, like, tints of gray, blue. I can't even describe the color. It was gorgeous. Terrified me to know it. I was like, what is happening? And I heard her voice in my head say, come see me. And I was like, we were moving. I was just recently married. I was like, come see me. Like, what do you mean? You sit in a room and you don't say anything. Like, that's heartbreaking. Like, you know, all the emotions that go with, you know, a grandparent that no longer speaks or recognizes you. Next morning, I'm pondering this. I'm thinking about this. I've never seen any of my body glow in any capacity. This is, like, at least 2 inches from my hands. This light was coming. And I was currently a bartender at the time. And I went to my work because I wanted to have, like, a little beverage to, like, give me some liquid courage before. Not the best choice, you know, But I was in my 20s, whatever. I get to my work, sit down, like, hey, just give me some sort of seltzer or something. And this lady who's there, who I've never seen before, and she talking to me, and I'm telling her, just, you know, bantering with your patrons, with your community. And she says, hey, if you're scared, like, say to your higher self. I want to connect to her higher self. And it'll give some sort of union. And she'll know that you're coming, and you'll know that she knows that you're coming. And I was like, okay, sounds kind of woo woo. But I come here for it. I go out in my car after like an hour or so of talking to this lady, and I sit there and I take a deep breath and I drive up to her house and I walk in and the lighting is horrible. It's, like, harsh. It's like those long tube lights for a care place. Didn't feel homey. The room had, like white linoleum icky feeling. And I walk in there and I see her head kind of shake a little bit. And she turns to me with wide eyes, like from a dead sleep, and says to me, you made it. And I. Oh, I have never in my entire life had the goosebumps that I did in that moment where I was like, you haven't spoken in two years to me. What do you mean? I made it. And I crumbled. I turned on my phone recorder. I'm like, there's something most definitely supernatural at play right now. And I started recording her. And she starts telling me these things about me, like being a healer and about me, like, wanting to go into business, which at the time I was just looking into what it would be to be a massage therapist. Just all these things that I was like, well, how do you know this about me? Like, what is going on? This woman who had been in this bed for forever just knew these things and started giving me advice about my business partner that I was questioning at the moment. She validated a bunch of information about this for me, and I. It was just such a beautiful experience. She passed away about three weeks after that, and I got to see her two more times, and she spoke to me both times. And every Christmas, every new year, every season in the winter, I just think about her and I think about, like, what power that is that she. She was able to harness as her brain deteriorated. And I was like, oh, my gosh, what wonder. And I really just want to share that. If anybody else is going through something like that with someone who might not feel themselves in their age, really just take a deep breath and connect your higher self to their higher self and see what happens, because you never know. Thank you so much for all your content that you put out. You guys have a beautiful new year and stay weird.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Amber. What an incredible story. She certainly seems to be connected somehow. And for her to speak so suddenly, I can see why you would have the cold shells and lastly, the glowing. You saw on your hands. Could that have been your aura? Now, I don't know a ton about auras, but Delaney provided me with a little cheat sheet and apparently each color means something different. Red means well grounded, energetic and strong willed. Orange is adventurous, thoughtful and considerate. Yellow denotes creativity or a relaxed and friendly nature. Green suggests a social person, a communicator or a nurturer. Blue is intuitive, spiritual and a free thinker. Indigo denotes curiousness, spirituality and a gentle touch. Finally, Violet represents the wise, the intellectual and the independent. I've linked to the full report from Healthline.com and that link can be found in tonight's show Notes maybe there's some clues for you there, Amber. Well, the call was chilling, touching and thought provoking all around. A great story. So thank you again, Amber, for sending it in.

Well, that takes us down to the last few entries for this episode. But don't worry, per usual, I saved some of the best for last. Beginning with this one from Pam in Parts unknown.

Hi, my name is Pam. I, in the early 90s, bought an old Craftsman home in the Central Gardens area of Memphis, Tennessee. It needed a lot of work, but, you know, I was young and dumb and figured, hey, I can fix it up by myself. It was a really big house and the whole second story was just one. One massive bedroom and a bathroom and a closet. So I needed money for renovations. So I decided to rent out the upper floor to, you know, get a little extra income coming in. So I rented to this really nice guy and he worked nights and I worked days and it was great. So we, you know, really never saw each other. So I'd be, you know, laying in bed and I'd hear the front door open and close. And then I'd hear boots going up the stairs. And I'm like, oh, okay. You know, he must have gotten off work early. And then the next day, you know, I'd see him and I'd say, hey, you know, you came home early last night. And he's like, no, I came home at 7 o' clock this morning. So it kind of became, I guess, sort of like a running joke. You know, my friends would be like, oh, did you hear the guy going up the stairs last night? And we kind of laugh about it. And, you know, I didn't think too much about it because I never really got scared. We had a couch that backed up against a wall. So if you're sitting on the couch and you lean your head back, you're putting your head against the wall so nobody can stand behind you. I'd be watching TV and I would hear like a growl. But it wasn't like an animal. It was like someone pretending to be an animal. Like a man's voice growling, like right in my ear, right behind me. And I'd turn around and of course, just there's the wall about four inches away. So I was like, that's weird again. Never felt scared, just, you know, that was weird. Never got a bad vibe. So I've been living there a couple of years, and one day I looked out to the street and there was a car parked on the curb with an elderly woman in the passenger seat and a young kid in the driver's seat. And I stared at them, and they stared at me. And I guess eventually they figured that they were looking pretty sketchy. So the young man got out and came up to the door, and he said, you know, I'm so sorry to bother you. Didn't mean to scare you, but my grandmother, who lives in Chicago, is in town, and this is the house where she was born and raised. She grew up in this house, and she just wanted to ride by and, you know, see what it looked like now after all these years. And I said, oh, my gosh, you know, would she like to come in? I mean, I'm perfectly happy. And he said, oh, my gosh, you know, would that be okay? I know she would really love that. I said, yeah, of course. I mean, this is the house she was born and raised in. It's more her house than it is mine. Tell her, get out of the car and, you know, come on in. And also, because I had been doing some renovation, I had a lot of questions, like, why is this doorway here? And did there used to be a porch on this side? And why does this window look strange? So I had some questions that I thought also maybe she could answer for me for the renovation. So he went out and got her out of the car, and she came up, and she was so sweet. Just a sweet, sweet little. And she was just thrilled to get to walk through the house with me. And she's reminiscing and saying, oh, this used to be my bedroom. And I would, you know, talk to my boyfriend out through the window at night so my parents couldn't hear. And, oh, my gosh, you know, this was my mama's kitchen. And there used to be a door here. And so we were having just a great tour of this house. And you could tell she was just so happy to be walking through the old house and, you know, walking down memory lane. And she was there for a long time. She did mention that that bedroom upstairs was her parents. And she said, you know, yeah, many a night, my daddy would come home.
From working on the railroad and not.
Hear his boots going up the stairs. And I thought, okay. So I didn't say anything, of course. And she started talking about her parents and, you know, her brothers and sisters and how happy they were living there and growing up. And she said, my daddy used to play the funniest game with us kids. She said he would run around and chase us and growl like a bear, and we would just scream and run through the halls. And she said, I often think about my daddy. She said, he would run up behind us and go, I'm a bear, and chase us kids through the house. And when she said that, all the hair on my arms stood up. And I thought, that's the growling that I hear. So anyway, after she left, I wasn't, I guess, shaken up. I just sort of felt like, okay, I have an explanation. This gentleman, this was his happy place. You know, he built this house for his wife and had all their children there. And all the children grew up and moved away. And according to her, her parents had both passed in the house at a, you know, really old age. So it was a happy place. And so the next time I felt the breath on the back of my neck and I heard the grr in my ear, I would just say, okay, now, your children don't live here. I'm not your child. I don't want to play, so please, you know, go away, leave me alone. And it got to where it was less and less and less until finally it just stopped. So not a scary story, a little bit creepy, a little bit weird, but thought your listeners might like it.
Thanks. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Now. We appreciate you taking the time to call in Pam. And as amazing as the story was, it left me pondering a peculiar situation. Do you tell the visiting old lady that her father haunts the home, or is that information that you keep to yourself? Well, we know what Pam chose to do. She opted not to share the information she had. But what would you do? No, I think I probably would share, but only if I was certain of my experience. But I do understand both stances because death is a very sensitive subject, and the last thing you want to do is upset a little old lady. Thanks again, Pam, for ringing in. And folks, that takes us to tonight's closer from the backroads of Maine, please welcome Anonymous to the program.
Caller
Hi, Derek and MAU fam. I'd like to remain anonymous, but I'm calling about an instance that happened just yesterday. So August 31st of 2025, my family and I moved a little over a year ago to southern Maine. And this area was just a little inland. So south of goose rocks beach in Kennebungport when we were heading south on Mills Road, it was around 2 in the afternoon. It was a sunny day. Some type of animal crossed in the road in front of us, probably less than 50ft or so. I would say it disappeared into the woods before we could get a better look. We have no idea what type of animal it was. We've never seen anything like it before. It was moving at a good Pace. It wasn't galloping or anything, I would say, just trotting along, crossing the road. But it was on all fours. I would say about the size of a large dog or a wolf. But its body was kind of lower to the ground, which made it seem smaller kind of than it actually was. At first it had a head and a coat that was a really dark brown with shorter hair. And then it had a long black, bushy tail, almost like a fox's tail in shape, but longer and more bushy with longer hair, like what a horse's mane would look like. The weirdest part is it couldn't have been a type of coyote or a dog or a fox because the head looked more like a deer's head or a horse's head. I would have thought it was a moose calf or a deer based on the head and upper part of the body, except for the long shaggy tail. And the legs were shorter and more canine like. And same with the feet, they were not hooves, but they were more like paws. So we even considered maybe it was like a small pony. But again, the bottom half of the body was just too wolf and canine like to have been a pony. Anyway, we've been racking our brains ever since. We have. You know, no possible animal seems to fit just right to match what we saw. So if anyone has a suggestion or a similar sighting, we'd love to know. And thanks for all you do. Keep up the great work. Take care.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, caller. You know, all those episodes of Monster Quest that I watched are finally going to pay off because I recall an episode of that series from the early aughts that featured just such a creature. Season one, episode six, the Mutant Canine Episode. An episode that covered the existence of these strange canines in the state of Maine. And here is a snippet of what folks up that way are reporting.
Caller
A mutant canine reported across the country.
But primarily in Maine and Minnesota.
The head wasn't dog like, it was cat like and had a relative horrible smell.
Pointy ears, a long nose, big teeth.
Derek Hayes
And like hair coming out of his nose.
Caller
It looked more wolfish or possibly husky, malamute something. And the worst thing that got me going is the shape of this sucker.
Derek Hayes
Big as a collie, maybe even bigger. And he had long black and gray hair.
Caller
Most modern eyewitnesses describe a canine like beast, about 120 pounds, with a flat snout, broad hunched shoulders, short mangled ears.
Derek Hayes
And a bushy tail. Now, when it comes to cryptids, the folks in Maine don't mess around In August of 2006, Michelle O' Donnell and her dog Bucko encountered one of these mystery canines outside of her home. A week later they found it dead along the road and they took photographs. Now you can watch that episode to see images of this creature where I also posted a few up in the show notes. But essentially the creature photographed looked almost exactly like what our caller just detailed to us. The Turner Beast, some people call it. Now as to what these things are, your guess is as good as mine. Feral dogs, hybrid, inbred, or a full on mutant canine. Whatever it is, consider my interest piqued. And for that reason I'll keep my ears and eyes open for similar accounts from the Pine Tree State. But until then, a big thanks caller for sharing the big mystery. We sure do appreciate you calling in and we also appreciate you tuning in here this evening because that's gonna do it for tonight. Hi Derek, I want to share a story that happened to me last summer in Minnesota where I live. I was working for a couple who owns a fruit farm and this happened one day when we were picking aronia berries which the bushes can get up to about 8ft or taller. Anyways, it was just the owner and I picking berries and I pulled down a branch to get the berries off when all of a sudden I heard a super loud buzzing sound. The only way I can describe it is that it sounded like a massive swarm of bees, but like a robotic sound to freaked me out so much because it was so loud that I yelled out and then I looked over to the owner and then all he said was that was weird. He mentioned after that that sometimes people fly drones above the farm, but this sounded like it was like a foot away from my head. It was so loud like I thought it was a swarm of bees but like I said it had like a weird robotic noise to it. After that it was quiet, but then I heard it again off in the distance until the noise went away. The owner was quiet after that and didn't talk about it further. So we just kept on picking bears like it didn't happen. Again, I don't know much about drones. I've never owned one. I've never really seen a lot of them. But maybe someone has some insight on this and maybe it was a drone, but it was just super strange to me how close it was. But I really love your podcast and I listen to it almost all the time when I'm doing chores and driving to and from work. So thanks a lot.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, caller. You know, based on the sound the mystery object made and the fact that you couldn't locate, it also leaves me to believe that you might have encountered a drone of some sort. And probably not one of those consumer drones that you can get off of Amazon, but one of those big ones that the survey companies use or that the military employs. A strange aspect of this call is that this is the second time in the past few weeks that we featured a call that began with the witness picking berries. And with berry season fast approaching, all you outdoor people had better keep your guard up. Of course, if you're out there listening and you have an idea of what this might have been, by all means, let us know. But until then, thank you again, caller for sharing. Now, folks, this is the portion of the program where we go beyond the after show that's only available through Patreon or Apple subscriptions. It's in the beyond that you get to hear special episodes like tonight's presentation, another installment of the Sleep Paralysis Files. And this week I've pulled over 45 minutes worth of calls for you to enjoy here tonight. So without further hesitation, I present to you a whole slew of stories about sleep paralysis, presented without comment, beginning with Terry's story out of California.
Caller
Hi Derek, it's Terri. I am in Humboldt County, California. I was talking to my husband just now actually, and he was telling me about an incident we had. We just moved into our own house. We've been here for two years now. I have been having small incidences of seeing people out the corner of my eye, but my husband had sleeping paralysis for the first time on the couch. It was Just this last Saturday and he fell asleep on the couch because he was waiting for my oldest to come home from a concert. So he was sleeping there on the couch and I guess he woke up and felt like he was in sleep paralysis and he knew what was going on. This isn't his first time dealing with it. He's dealt with it in the past. He's seen the Hat man and a couple other figures. I think he's actually seen Old Hag too. Anyways, this time he didn't see a figure really. He said he could see the corner of our living room right next to our back door to our yard and right next to that in the corner that he's talking about, we have an offender. I leave it up year round. I have pictures of my mom and my grandmother and a friend of the past and I just leave it up and put stuff up there off and on. I just put fresh flowers up. He said there was somebody in that corner reaching out to him, trying to tell him something. Didn't see who it was. He didn't see a face or anything but he said it felt distinctly like a woman but he couldn't really tell me what it was at all. And then he said when he finally was able to like move out of it and move around that our dog Ina had jumped off the couch and was staring at him whining, wondering what was wrong with him. Yeah. And that was the end of it. He didn't have anything after that. My son came home soon after that so he just into bed. Thanks for having the show. Really appreciate it. Okay, bye.
Hey man. My name is James.
I'm from Cleveland, Ohio originally. But I moved on to Myrtle beach.
Back in 2003 and ever since then.
I've seen a lot of great things in the sky.
But I want to share experience with you.
I had about summer 2015 or 16. I was on the way to go cash a check with my buddy Nikki. As Nikki and I were leaving my neighborhood.
There's this road down here called Highway 15. We were going on to Highway 15 and there's a tree line, you know.
As you're pulling out of the mobile home park where I lived at the time.
You know, you're facing the tree line.
It was about 7:30 at night and.
Around summertime so the sun wasn't down.
Yet but it was getting there.
So it was at a certain point in the sky where you could see things pretty clearly.
