Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Hello everyone and welcome back. Now you have a lot to get through tonight, likely more than my one hour allotment can contain, but I'm gonna give it all a shot. And to help conserve as much time as we can, let's just get started. So joining us from parts unknown, please welcome Gage to tonight's program.
Caller - Gage/Steve/Shane
Hey Derek, it's Gage again.
Caller - Gage
So I was just listening to season 12 episode 6 about the guy whose mom was seeing something outside of Rock Wall. She was from Emory and all that. Well, my story kind of involves Emory too. Back in the summer of 2014, I just graduated. I was out on my own, or at least given a lot more independence after I got out of high school. So me and a bunch of my friends, specifically three, my girlfriend at the time, her best friend, and her best friend's brother, we decided to go out to Emory to see the best friend's oldest sister and then go out to the lake. That was all nice and fun and whatnot. But I did have a curfew. I had to be back home by 11. So I said, all right, we are going to leave at 8:30. That gives me time to get everybody dropped off, plus the two hour drive and all of that. So as we're driving, it's getting dark a lot quicker than we had expected. And all of a sudden everything just started kind of messing up everything from our phones to the radio. Even the car didn't sound right. Then we noticed, you know, a few lights up in the sky.
Caller - Gage/Steve/Shane
Of course we're a Bunch of teenagers. We're gonna go look at it.
Caller - Gage
I mean, we didn't drive up there, but we stopped the car and went and looked. And I can tell you we didn't sit there this long. But by the time we got moving again, it was already midnight.
Caller - Gage/Steve/Shane
Now I certainly got a lot of
Caller - Gage
grief from my parents for, you know, being out so late, but I told them, look, we left at 8:30. I was planned everything out so that I could be back home on time, but I didn't get home till two in the morning that night after dropping everybody off. The long drive and everything. And yeah, it was just really weird. If I can find out what road it was on, I'll let you know. But that two hour drive took a lot longer than two hours. Well, I hope you can use this and I hope that you have a wonderful day.
Caller - Gage/Steve/Shane
Keep it up.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Gage. Now, Emory, Texas is not on my radar as a UFO hotspot. I did a quick Google search and nothing of note popped up. But that doesn't mean that activity doesn't take place there. Sometimes that just means the folks in that area aren't too keen on discussing it with outsiders. So perhaps that's the energy they have down there in Emory. Or maybe this was just a one off, wrong place, wrong time sort of scenario. And speaking of time, where did that missing chunk go? Great stuff, Gage, and a stellar way to kick things off here tonight. Now we do have time to sneak in one more short call. So down to Australia we go. Please welcome John to the program.
Caller - John
Hey, Derek, how you going? It's John from Perth, Western Australia. Big fan of the show. Had a bunch of weird experiences in my life, but there's nothing supernatural about this one. It's just a straightforward doppelganger. Basically, three decades ago when I turned 18 and I'd be going to the pub because I had my id, you know, you're finally allowed to go out. I'm going to parties and all that. About 10 or more times people would walk up to me and they'd say, how you going, Anthony? And they'd launch into a conversation with me thinking I was somebody else. And after 30 uncomfortable seconds, I'd have to say to them, look, mate, I'm not your friend. Anthony Maimes. John, I don't know who you're talking to. And consistently they looked like they'd seen a ghost. They'd turn white and they'd say, oh my God, I'm so sorry, that is freaky. You look exactly like Anthony. Now, I suppose it Was a different time. There was no mobile phones. Like today, you just pull your mobile out, you'd pull up whatever and say, oh, yeah, that guy looks like me. There was no mobile phones then, so I just assumed I'd meet the dude eventually because it happened every few months over the space of a couple of years. Before I moved away. What struck me, listening to the other stories of doppelgangers is it was never somebody saying, you look a bit like my friend. It was somebody literally walking up to me and speaking to me like I was somebody else. And then they would turn white when I'd say, that's not me, my name's John. And they'd be like, whoa. Anyway, it was a bit like a country town up there. And the cliche is that everybody knows everybody. And I just assumed, you know, one day me and this guy must bump into each other. But we never did. And that's the weird thing. So I moved away when I was 20 and it never happened again once I was out of that area. Never. Not once again. So if you're out there, Anthony, how you going? It's a shame we never met. We apparently are spitting a bitch. Thanks for your time. Just keep it spooky.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, John. A doppelganger down under. You know, John, I bet somewhere down there in Australia there's a man named Anthony constantly telling folks, I'm not John. Know what a weird and fun entry and we appreciate you taking the time to share it from such a long distance. That's all well and good and. And who's number two on your list? Hey, this is Steve from Missouri. I've been a paranormal investigator for about 30 years and I've seen all sorts of things and heard all sorts of things. This is one of the first things that really happened to me personally. It was sometime in the late 90s. My wife and me and my three kids were driving around in our new used car we had just bought. Just having a good day, beautiful day in the summer. Middle of the day, I said, let's go down and show your mother in law. So we drove down to her mother in law's house, which wasn't too far from us. And as it was, her mom was at work, but her little half sister was home from school. They were off school and there was a bunch of stickers in the windows of the car and I pulled them out, but it left that gum on the window. So I asked my wife's little sister if I could go in the house and get a razor blade and scrape it off. And she said sure. So I went to the bathroom on the first floor. It's all hardwood floors throughout the house, the house from about the 1920s and it was just a half bath on the first floor. And I had to shut the door to look in a chest of drawers because it was so small to look for a razor blade. So I rooted around for a razor blade and I heard barefoot footsteps on the floor. And I heard three knocks at the door and I figured one of the kids had to use bathroom. And I said, hey, go upstairs, use the other bathroom, I'm busy. And I heard the barefoot footsteps go away. Like five seconds later, here come the barefoot footsteps and three knocks at the door. And I said, now look, I'm looking for a razor blade. Go upstairs and use the other bathroom. And I hear the footsteps go away. Five seconds later, the barefoot footsteps come up to the door. And knock on the door again. Now I'm getting kind of perturbed this time so I have to quit looking for the razor blade. And I throw open the bathroom door and there's nobody there. So the first thing came to my mind, somebody's in the house. So I ran to the kitchen, I grabbed about a foot long butcher knife and I'm under the bed, in the closet, under the couches, everywhere in the attic looking for somebody in the house. There's nobody there. And I go look out a window and there's my wife and the kids are all out the yard. I was kind of shook up by this time, so I walked outside and I'm still holding the butcher dive, kind of shaky. And they're going, what is wrong with you? And I said, is there anybody been in the house in the last five minutes? They all said no. So a few days later I'm talking to my mother in law about it and she said a couple months ago there had been a carpenter at the house adding a room on for her mother who's going to move in. And he heard footsteps throughout the house and go up the steps upstairs but never come back down. And I went and I just casually brought it up. Her husband had died about six months before that of brain cancer. And I said, did he want something to be done with his ashes? Has he been cremated? And she said he wanted his ashes spread at this lake lot that they had. And I said, have you done that yet? And she said, no, he's in a jar up on the shelf in the closet. And I said, if you want this stuff to stop, go spread the old man's ashes and this stuff will stop. And she did. And the stuff all stops. Well, thank you very much, Derek. You guys have a good one. Take it easy. Bye.
Derek Hayes
We appreciate the entry, Steve. You know, about 64 of Americans are cremated. Let's see, lot of ashes. And those that prefer cremation want the following done with their ashes. According to a poll conducted by the National Funeral Directors association, most prefer to bury or inter their cremated remains in a cemetery. In a close second, 37.1 would prefer to have them kept in an urn at home. 33.5 would prefer to have the remains scattered in a sentimental place. And 10.5% would like them split among relatives. Now, 10% would like them kept in a place of worship and 9.6 have no idea what they want to do with theirs. So it sounds like there are a lot of opportunities out there to botch someone's Last wishes. Oftentimes people forget or they can't make it to a specific location and the urn ends up collecting dust on the mantle. Now imagine if each one of those unfulfilled last wishes resulted in a heavy footed ghost, just like Steve's family experienced. But then you quickly realize that is a lot of ghosts. Now, I have it on good authority that not every neglected urn produces an angry and vengeful spirit. If that were the case, the deserts of Nevada would be absolutely teeming with the ghosts of the dead.
News Reporter
More than a hundred piles of cremated remains dot the Nevada desert, just a few miles from Searchlight. A town itself home to just a few hundred. You can see it best from the air. Each dot representing a human being who someone left here. Mounds and mounds of remains abandoned right off a dirt road where a person came across them several weeks ago and notified authorities. Since then, the Bureau of Land Management working to figure out just who's responsible. While spreading ashes on federal land is not a crime for failing to dignify the dead is, Nevada law requires funeral operators protect the dignity of all remains.

I saw this clip on the news a while back and I couldn't get it out of my head. Someone just dumped the ashes there, representing well over 100 people. Now, believe it or not, the exact same thing also happened outside of Kansas City. And I've linked to a news story about that report over in the show notes. So the point here is that there must be certain circumstances in which some recently deceased can return to ensure that their remains, what's left of them, are well taken care of. Thank you again, Steve for taking the time to share your tale. Now gang, if you have a tale you would like to tell, give my hotline a call, 888-6089. That's 888608 Nigel. Caller - Andrea
Hi Derek, this is Andrea calling from Northern California. I was just listening to season 19 episode 46 one of the stories was around the Fae Folk. It reminded me about a story that my mom has. And so I asked her about it and she described it again to me. But you asked if there was phenomenon that anyone had experienced in Kansas where the call that I'm referencing took place. Which is part of why I remembered it. Because my parents were living in Lawson, Missouri at the time, which is right on the border with the state of Kansas. My mom is absolutely not the type to make things up for whatever that's worth. But anyway, this occurred in the 1980s, before I was born. Through the early 80s. My mom said that they were living in Lawson, Missouri, out in the country. One evening she was in the bedroom and it was early morning and it was summer, because the window was open. She heard strange little sounds that sounded like they were outside close by. At first she thought they were animals chattering, but it didn't sound like animals. It sounded like little voices talking quickly back and forth, but it was unintelligible. She was so intrigued that she got out of the bed and went over to the window. She couldn't see anything, but she could hear the little voices still. But then, just briefly, she thought to herself at the time, she imagined that it sounded like little fairies or elves. And she thought, why would fairies or elves be out here? And was very perplexed. She said that it didn't sound like anything she has ever heard before or since, and that it has been many years and she still wonders what it was that she heard. So it's still something she thinks about. Like I said, my mom is one of the most honest people I have ever known. And absolutely never hyperbolic. Doesn't make things up. So I believe her. And I thought that was interesting, given the call that I just heard on that episode. Anyway, thank you for all you do. Of course. Your team is wonderful and we all appreciate you very much. Take care.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Andrea. Now, our research tells us that the area in question here was settled by folks from Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina. So predominantly folks from the Appalachia region. And we know the folks from Appalachia come from Ireland, Germany, Scotland and England, which is Fey Folk territory. So I guess you could say a loose connection can be made here at the very least. And as Andrea mentioned, we did field another call similar to this from the exact same region. To hear that call, visit season 19 episode 46 and give Squirrel's Tale a listen. Of course, before those white settlers made their way to that part of Missouri and Kansas. The area was inhabited for thousands of years by tribes like the Kickapoo and the Osage. And many of those cultures had lore about little people, small entities they referred to as wild people. Now the wild people are fairy, like little humanoids out of central and southern Siouan folklore, sometimes winged. And in some tribes, such as the Omaha, they are said to have only one eye. The wild people have magical powers and can be dangerous, sometimes kidnapping children or using witchcraft to harm people. So could it have been a wild person that Andrea's mother heard that night? Or could this be the activity of the ornery European Fae folk brought to the area by migrants hundreds of years ago? Whatever it was, that's the kind of thing we like to hear here on the show, Andrea. So another big thanks for sharing your mother's story. Thank you again for calling in. Now folks, unintentionally the recent episodes have been void of monster or creature stories. It's on my radar now and I'm taking steps to correct course. So from little people and tiny voices to a mystery creature with a focal range, please welcome Curtis out of the Sunshine State of Florida.
Caller - Curtis
Hey Derek, it's Curtis out of Florida. Just wanted to tell you a story that happened about maybe three hours ago. I was on my boat fixing my tackle. It was about 8:30 ish, and it was pretty windy outside and I was actually listening to one of your episodes and as I was getting done doing my tackle and such, I heard a scream in the woods. And I live in a rural neighborhood, all retirement people and heard a scream in the woods and it was like

Derek Hayes
Thank you, Curtis. Now, I wasn't able to locate the video, so if you still have it, please send it in now. I hope for your sake it was just a bobcat, a coyote, a panther, or maybe a fox because they're all capable of making sounds that sound exactly like what Curtis just described. But given his location, I can think of one other creature that might be capable of a blood curdling scream. And when we come back, we'll explore that beast a little further. But first, a quick word from tonight's sponsors.

Now, as you might remember, we just left off with Curtis and he called in about a loud guttural scream that he heard emanating from the wilds of Florida. A scream that he thought couldn't have come from any known animal. So to explore where that guttural howl originated from, please welcome Pam to the platform.
Caller - Pam
Hi, this is Pam. I grew up in northwest Florida, Santa Rosa county, just a few miles from the Florida Alabama line. If any of your listeners know Munson Berrydale J area deep woods backwoods. I lived on a small dirt road where everybody on the road was family. You know, aunts, uncles, grandparents, sisters, cousins, everybody up and down the road. They were all our relatives. So needless to say, you know, us kids were at everybody's house now and then. So I had these two cousins who were quite a bit older than me, 17, 18 years older than me. One had come back from Vietnam, the other one, you know, was recently married and put a house right there on the road with everybody else. They were brothers. They were born and raised there in the backwoods, you know, hunting at night Going frogging at night, I mean, catching rattlesnakes. These were not easily frightened young men. They had pretty much seen everything there was to see in the woods. So one night I was spending the night at my grandparents house and I guess I was probably about eight or nine maybe, and my two cousins had gone night hunting, which they often did. And sometime in the middle of the night I heard this ruckus, this banging on the door. You know, my granddad, who was born in 1895 and he was very old at this point, he kept a shotgun over the front door and you know, he grabbed the shotgun, opened the door and it was my two cousins just flipping out, just terrified and talking. And you know, one of my cousins was crying and so I thought, oh my God, somebody's died or something. But they told our granddaddy, get your gun, get your gun, you got to come down to the pipeline. You know, we saw something and we. Come on, come on, come on, get your gun, we gotta go. And you know, my granddad grabbed the shotgun, all three of them took off. So didn't think too much about it, went back to sleep, Woke up when my grandfather came back in, you know, I heard the door clothes and heard the, you know, clack of him putting the shotgun back on the nails over the door. And of course, you know, I jumped out of bed and opened the bedroom door and said, what happened? What happened? What was it? And my granddad said, be quiet and go back to bed. And wouldn't talk about it, you know, yelled at me to go back to bed. Never would talk about it. Like that was just the end of the story. My grandmother wouldn't talk about it, like nobody would talk about it. So I always kind of didn't really know what was going on. So as an adult, I was talking to my sister and I mentioned it, you know, and she said, oh yeah, you know, that was the night that they saw Bigfoot down at the pipeline. And I was like, what? And she said, yeah, what had happened was my two cousins were night hunting and it just walked into this clearing right in front of them, turned, looked at them and just kept walking on into the woods. And like I said, these boys were not scared of anything. These were backwoods, you know, tough guys. But my sister said, yeah, when they came up and got granddaddy and they went back down there, they were gonna hunt it, they were gonna kill it. And she said, you know, granddaddy saw it too. And they took shots at it and guess they didn't hit it because they could never find it. They couldn't find any, you know, a blood trail or anything. But she said they stayed out there for hours, you know, hunting this thing. And she said, yeah, granddaddy would never talk about it. But of course my cousins had told her, you know, what had happened and they were just, I mean, these guys were terrified. Like I said, one had, you know, just recently come back from Vietnam and you know, I'm sure he'd seen plenty of things over there. But yeah, these boys were just absolutely in tears, terrified of whatever it was that they saw. And like I said, our granddad saw it too, but he just would never ever speak about it. But yeah, that's one of our family Bigfoot stories. There are several more, but that's the one that really, I'm gonna say scarred me for life. But it's one that I remember very, very vividly because, you know, again, my two cousins were not scared of anything. And my granddad was just absolutely fearless. Old guy. And all three of them were just, you know, terrified and shaking and. Yeah, and there's been other sightings right there. Like if you go on the BRFO website, if you look in that area, J. Berrydale, Munson, there have been a lot of sightings right there. And yeah, there it is.
Caller - Christine
Thanks.
Caller - Pam
Enjoy the show.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Pam. Now, Pam included a map to where the sightings took place. So if you're local, you might want to have a look. And she's right. There have been a lot of sightings, not just in that part of Florida, but all throughout the state, especially back in the 1970s. In 1972, near West Palm beach, several large dogs flee from an eight foot tall hairy monster. Two years later, in 1974, two deputies in Lantana shoot at a large bipedal creature that runs off into the night. Again, in 1974, seven teenagers in West Palm beach report seeing a creature matching the same Description. Also in 1974, a lake worth man said he witnessed a skunk ape grab one of his pigs and shred it to pieces with its bare hands. 1974 was a big year for this activity because guards at a Wellington construction site claimed to shoot and wound a hairy creature they find creeping around. But of course, the creature got away. Then in 1976, a skunk ape was reported in a watermelon patch near Fort Myers. And finally in 1977, a seven foot tall ape like creature was reported drinking water near a golf course in Delray Beach. Now, these sightings all took place in the southern part of the state While Pam's cousins saw the beast in the northern part. But that sort of distribution is almost to be expected because the skunk ape is reported all throughout the state of Florida and parts of Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi as well. Now, what exactly is this creature? If you're still asking that question, then you've obviously never heard of the Florida skunk ape.

That clip courtesy of the show Monster Quest. So if these things are real and they in fact infest most of the state, is it possible that it was a skunk ape that Pam's family saw? It seems that all the puzzle pieces are there. We're just missing a body. But until someone drags one in, all we have are stories, stories like Pam's. And boy, do we thank her for sharing. Now, folks, on Tuesday's All Minnesota episode, we shared a call from Marcus, who saw a hovering craft with many red lights covering it. Well, I have something similar to share with you here tonight. So, Brian, also from Florida, welcome to the program.
Caller - Brian
Hi, Derek, this is Brian from north Florida. So last Friday night, about 10 o', clock, I had just let the dogs out for some finest tennis ball tossing for the night. And I looked off to my southeast and I saw a bright red rectangular shaped light. It was brighter than Venus and it was solid. It wasn't blinking at all. It was about 10 miles, I guess, to the southeast. At first I thought it was an airplane since the airport is only about 10 minutes to my southwest. But it was moving straight up. And after about five minutes of just slowly moving straight up, it disappeared. Then it reappeared, dimmed out a little bit, and then it disappeared and it was gone. So I was completely mesmerized. And of course, by the time I got my phone out to snap pictures, it was gone. So about 15 seconds later, there was a bright white streak just to myself, very well could have been a Shooting star. But pairing a UFO sighting with a shooting star really got me thinking. That was weird. That was very odd. Taking into account that's the fourth shooting star I've seen in the last 10 days. The entire sighting lasted anywhere from about seven to 10 minutes of both objects. Later that evening, since I couldn't snap pictures, I didn't get pictures. I started sketching out what I saw and I sketched those two objects, the UFO and the. I'm going to call it a shooting star, but it could have been something else. As I'm sketching those out, I felt a need, just this weird need, to draw out a couple of other images that literally popped in my head. I've included those with this voice memo in an email to you. But yeah, this was definitely a sighting that I'm going to remember for a very long time. Hey, so I love the podcast. Thanks, Derek, Sarah Connor and crew. Man, y' all are amazing. Keep it spooky.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Brian. Now, Brian said his encounter took place last Friday night, which would have been Friday, November 14, 2025. Just for reference. Now, we did cross reference Brian's encounter with any other known similar UFO experiences. And although we didn't get a direct hit, I think we got pretty close. On October 5, 2023, a little over two years before Brian's sighting, a person in Homosassa, Florida, also saw and reported a craft that matches the exact same description. Here is that report, courtesy of the National UFO Reporting Center. In the early morning hours of October 5, around 1:45am, facing east, slightly southeast, I saw at first what appeared to be an extremely large fireball or comet. It was less than 2,000ft above ground level and at least from end to end, school bus sized. As we sprinted to get a better look from behind my neighbor's tree, I realized it was completely motionless. Not only that, but it was 100% not a comet. It was a bright crimson red rectangle facing west, hovering vertically and tapered to a point back toward the east side of it. Instantaneously, the entire motionless object disappeared, not leaving slowly or fading away, but blinking out of existence. We thought the experience was over, but no more than two seconds after disappearing in the same exact patch of sky, it reappeared, but as a lonely twinkle of light that looked like just a star. Initially, in this form, it was very bright. Then the brightness lowered a bit. It ambled in a southeast direction over farmland until it got too small for us to follow with our eye. So there you have it. I think that's pretty damn close. And I hope you're in a similar report board from less than 200 miles away gives you a bit of comfort. Brian, while we might not know what it was, we know you did see something strange. And we also know someone else did as well. Now, Brian did submit the sketch that he discussed, and I have it up in the show notes. So let me know if his drawing speaks to you. And in the meantime, thank you again, sir, for taking time to ring in.

This next call is one I've been excited to share for a while now and that moment has finally come. Please welcome Angie out of the State of Washington.
Caller - Angie
Hi Derek, my name is Angie. I live in Olympia, Washington State and I'm calling because I was listening to season 19 episode 39 where Julie talked about the blue warthog people and my blood run cold. I got goosebumps when she said warthog people because I had the same thing happen to me but it was a little bit different. I was 6 at the time, so this was in 92 and we lived in the rural outskirts of Olympia. I was in my parents bedroom and I wasn't asleep yet and I heard my parents arguing and I looked up by the door and I saw exactly what Julie described. I saw a blue warthog face person. He was short, he was three feet. But mine was different because he was wearing like a breastplate and holding a spear. But he had a warthog face and he was blue and it felt like he was protecting me from going outside and hearing my parents argument. So for some reason it felt protective and good. But when I heard Julie's story I almost started crying because I had never thought that someone else would see something that sounds so ridiculous as a blue warthog person. But that's what happened and I just wanted her to know that she's not alone and I never had any other experiences besides that with the warthog person.
Caller - Lily
I don't know if it was a
Caller - Angie
one off or what. Anyway, Derek, you guys are awesome. Thanks for all your hard work. You take care. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you Angie. A blue warthog person. You know, I wonder if George Lucas had a similar experience and that's what led him to create the Gamorrean Guards stationed at Jabba's palace. Because this sounds like something straight out of Star Wars. What? Also reminds me of Whitley Strieber's Communion. He wrote of little blue people that are encountered during alien abduction experiences. In fact, his own son claimed to have seen what he called little blue doctors invading his bedroom at night, shining lights in his face. And what was with the breastplate and the spear? Very primitive accessories for something that potentially traveled great distances to be here. I'm sure they'll know if these are in fact aliens, but one could argue there is evidence out there that does suggest that. But I do know whatever they are, they make for an amazing entry and I'd love to hear more. So a big thanks to you Angie for taking the time to reintroduce this subject. Maybe more experiences will flood in after this. And then, and only then, can we begin to peel back the layers on this little blue mystery. Hey
Caller - Shane
Derek, this is Shane from Seattle. I just had something happen to me yesterday that really moved me from a skeptic of sorts to what can only be called a true believer. So I just got back from a trip in Westport, a little coastal town in Washington. Family trip, lots of kids stayed right in the water. Very windy night last night. It was about 10pm I stepped outside to the driveway of this house by all the cars to have a quick smoke and there's a balloon flying around this little area with me because the kids were playing with some balloons and
Caller - Gage/Steve/Shane
one of them got out.
Caller - Shane
Like I said, it's really windy right on the water like 50 yards from the waves of the ocean. This balloon is skipping all over the ground. It's a fenced in little area so it's not getting away but it's blowing all over the place. So I'm standing there, no one else
Caller - Gage/Steve/Shane
is out there around me.
Caller - Shane
It's dark out, there's a porch light on watching this balloon fly around. And this balloon stopped where it was and levitated in one spot in the wind and it got pressed against the ground like somebody was holding it. Something was holding it. Like I said, this happened last night and I've only begun to really process what I saw. But this balloon stopped right where it was in the wind just like someone had caught it and it got pressed against the ground. It didn't get caught on anything. It was in a open concrete driveway and I saw this with my own two eyes and it really just blew my mind drinking a small amount. But I wasn't like out there drunk
Caller - Gage/Steve/Shane
or anything like that.
Caller - Shane
Still a little bit shaken up about it. Not scary but definitely something that defied physics and I truly can't explain. Thanks for all you do in the show. We all love it. You have a good night.
Derek Hayes
Thanks Shane. Now what is it about these balloons? I've received probably half a dozen calls over the years regarding oddly behaving balloons and if you ask me that's about half a dozen too many. Leading me to ask what's with all these balloons? I almost have enough to put together an all creepy balloon special coming to a Tuesday near you. Thank you again Shane for sharing the odd little entry. Now for tonight's closer, a wild one out of Georgia. Please welcome Christine to the platform.
Caller - Christine
Hey Derek, this is Christine calling from Georgia. So back in 1978 my father was transferred over to Greece and we were living in a little town called Kia. We were living in a rental house that was owned by a gentleman by the name of Mr. Agriopoulos. He had built this house pretty much his entire life. So he saved up a little bit of money, he poured the foundation, saved up a little bit more, put the walls up, and you get the idea. So he wasn't quite ready to retire yet, and he decided to rent the house out. So we were living in the house, and after we moved in, we noticed some strange things that began to occur. The first incident happened after we had lived there maybe about three months. My brother and I were playing in the back courtyard, and we noticed that it sounded like somebody was up on the roof. I looked up and I noticed a giant terracotta tile come flying down from the roof, and it was heading directly towards my brother. I pushed him out of the way, and the tile landed in the exact spot where he was standing. So we go running into the house. Mom, dad, mom, dad, there's somebody up on the roof. You got to come and check this out. And they got a ladder because that was the only way to get up there. They went, they looked around, there was nothing there and nobody there. So we thought, you know, maybe it was just, you know, a loose tile, one of those weird things, and didn't think anything more about it. A few months later, my brother and I were playing hide and go seek in the house. And my brother had a little balcony right off of his bedroom. So he decides to go hide off of the balcony. As I'm looking around the house for him, I hear this loud bam. I run upstairs to his bedroom. The doors that went out to his balcony had slammed shut. Now, there was no breeze on this day, no fans, no nothing that could have caused that. So I tried to open the doors. I couldn't get them open. My brother couldn't get them open. We got our dad, Our dad could not get them open. We had to end up calling a locksmith to actually get those doors open. And the locksmith was completely dumbfounded. How on earth the doors could have been locked like that. So my brother and I again, we thought, well, it's just one of those weird things. The next incident that happened was a little more concerning. Was eating breakfast one morning at the breakfast table with my mom. And my mom looks at me and she says, christine, I didn't know you owned a long black nightgown. I said, mom, I don't own a long black nightgown. What are you talking about? She said, last night, when I went to get up to get a drink of water, I saw what I thought was you walking down the Hallway in a long black robe or nightgown. I said, well, that definitely was not me. So she said, maybe I was dreaming it. And she chalked it up to that. A few months later, I could not get to sleep. And for whatever reason, my room was freezing cold and I couldn't sleep. So I decided to get up and walk around the house. As I'm walking around, I walk into my brother's room, and I noticed that his windows were wide open. I thought, boy, if I'm cold, he really must be cold. I better shut these windows. His windows shut with a large brass knob. Twisted the knob, shut the windows, walked around the house a little bit more. Then I finally went back to my room. About 10 minutes after I went back to my room, I heard a loud crash. Woke everybody up in the house, and we all ran into my younger brother's bedroom. There was a huge wooden beam from the ceiling that had fallen. And the way it fell, it was deflected off of the brass knob of the window that I had just shut. So had I not just shut the window, the beam would have landed on his head and probably killed him instantly. It was another one of those weird things where we were left scratching our heads. And my dad said, I think maybe the house is just settling. It's just an old house. It's one of those weird things. The final incident that happened, the most horrifying incident. We were getting ready to move out of the house. And again, it was a night I could not sleep. It was really cold yet again. And I decided to go into my brother's room. I thought, well, maybe his room is a little bit warmer. So I go into his room and I climb into the bottom bunk and I'm facing towards the wall. And suddenly I get this eerie feeling like I am being watched. I sense a presence in the room. It was a very real presence. And I was lying there completely terrified to the point where I could not move. And I thought, maybe I'm having a dream. And I pinched myself. It's like, no, I'm definitely not having a dream. And I thought, I need to turn around because somebody is standing there. Okay, I'm going to pinch myself again. So I pinched myself again just to make extra sure that I was not dreaming. I then turned around and over in the corner, I saw what looked like either a monk or somebody wearing a veil. Completely black, in a black robe or black dress, and no face where the face should have been. It was just complete blackness. It scared me so much, I turned around and began Screaming hysterically. I screamed so loud I even woke up the neighbors. So my parents come running into the bedroom. What's going on? What's going on? They thought someone had broken into the house. We looked all around the house. Nobody was there. My mother swore up and down that I must have been having a dream. Well, a couple months later, when we go to move out, we're talking to Mr. Agriopoulos and he tells us the whole story of his house. As it turns out, this house was his dream house for him and his wife. They had rented it out to a family prior to us living there. It was a British family. They had two boys. And apparently the two little boys they had had completely destroyed the house. They damaged the walls, just the furniture, everything you can think of. They completely destroyed it. Upon Mrs. Agriopoulos seeing all of this damage, she died.

When?
Caller - Christine
Right in the foyer of a heart attack. So we think that it was her ghost and she did not like little boys. And that's why she was probably targeting my brother. That is my story. I enjoy listening to your show. Thanks so much.

Thanks, Christine. Incredible. An incredible collection of accounts. An incredible story and an incredible ending. The death of the landlord's wife certainly sounds like it could have been connected here. And what a tragic way to go, the way she passed. I've had many adults tell me as a child that I would be the death of them. I guess I didn't know it was actually possible. Incredible stuff, Christine, and the perfect way to cap off tonight's broadcast. So thank you again for taking the time to make the submission. And that's gonna do it for the most part, folks. I'm not sure how number 89 gets that wide open, but I'll take it. Now, tonight's secret entry comes to us from the state of Oklahoma. Please welcome Lily to the program.
Caller - Lily
Hello, my name is Lily and I live in Oklahoma. This happened quite a few years ago. It was my very first apartment. At the time, my sister was dating someone that, you know, was going through a lot of personal issues. I won't name any names, but he actually ended up helping me go and get the keys to my apartment. And it was the first time that I had seen him in quite some time because I actually believe that my sister had left him. But the day goes by, I end up getting moved into my apartment. I had my dog and I also had my puppy. And it was also my first time living by myself. But the way that my apartment was set up, it was essentially like a studio. And the only offset room was my bedroom. The bathroom I could see from my bed and it was so small that my actual vanity sink was in my bedroom with me. And so the way that my bed was placed, I had a direct view. Maybe eight feet away was my actual bathroom door that only had a tub. And then right up against the tub was the actual toilet. And I remember waking up at I can't even recall what time it was specifically. And I remember both my dogs sitting up and their fur on their back was completely up and they weren't growling and So I don't necessarily know what woke me up. There was no noises, but I remember my entire body locking up and all the hair off my arms raising. And I see this hand reach from under the door of my bathroom that was shut and it slowly started feeling around as if it was looking for the doorknob. It's freaking me out. I sat there and I washed it for a minute and after a while it, I guess realized that it couldn't open the door from inside the bathroom. And mind you, the bathroom was maybe two feet of space. Space, like there was no way that anyone could lay down in there. In fact, my 60 pound border collie couldn't even lay down in the bathroom. So I remember just sitting there and I was like, well, I guess I have to cleanse my apartment in the morning. I was raised very witchy with my family, and I can't say that I necessarily carry it as strongly as my mother and then her mother before her. But I definitely respect all areas of life, whether that be supernatural or paranormal. And I absolutely do not dabble in anything that is a little darker that I cannot handle. So I remember the next morning I messaged my sister and I was like, hey, this happened. And she goes, oh, yeah, that was happening up until I left my ex. And I go, oh, all right. So I don't know if something was attached to him or something was following him, but he never came back over after that. And that was the one and only time it happened. Of course, the next morning I opened my bathroom door and definitely slept with the lights on for a while after that, but that's it. Thanks for the podcast. Absolutely adore it. I've been listening for a few months now, and you and your team do absolutely phenomenal work. Thank you.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Lily. Now that's certainly not the sort of experience you want to have in your very first place. That's the last thing you'd want, probably. Now, I swear I've heard this detail before from another caller even perhaps, but neither myself nor my team could remember specifically which call it occurred on. But if you happen to know, please let us know. And I know that over the years we've received a ton of calls that originate from the bathroom. Hell, we even did a special episode on the subject last season, I believe. Absolutely terrifying. Especially knowing there wasn't space for someone to lay down in the bathroom. Details like that twist the mind into terror filled knots, but boy, does it make for a creepy story. And here at Monsters Among Us, that's exactly what we're looking for. So Lily's pain is our gain, but we thank her for it. And we thank her for taking the time to give us a call. Now, gang, this is the part of the show where we leave most of you, but for five bucks you can listen to the rest of this episode and days worth of other back content. And if you're on the fence, you can sign up for a seven day free trial. No risks, no obligation. So give us a shot, won't you? Caller - Ryan
What's up, Derek? This is Ryan calling from Kyle, Texas. So like 30 minutes south of Austin here. My story takes place in Poway, California. I'd been living with my family at this point, my four brothers and my parents. And we had been hopping rental homes in the area for a few years. And we had come into this one home and it was kind of like up on a hill. There was one neighbor next door, but you could kind of see the rest of the neighborhood down below a little bit. And it backed up though to the mountains right there. I've heard on previous episodes on here that there's some weirdness to the Poway area, so maybe that contributed to this story. So my dad had stayed at the house a day or two before we had all moved in. This time he had slept in this room that was right off the hallway that went to the garage. And he shut the door and kept the kitchen light on. He laid down and gone to bed and he was awoken to now light coming into the room. And he saw the door creaking open. But it wasn't in like a way that you'd usually think of like the average paranormal story of the door just like swinging open. The door was inching open, like somebody was kind of bumping it open. So it kind of open a little bit and stop. Open a little bit more and stop. Open a little bit more and stop. And he kind of watched that for maybe 10 seconds or so until he couldn't take it anymore. He jumped up and grabbed the door and saw nobody. And the AC was off all that. He tried re latching it and pulling on it and it was staying latched. Like basically he tried everything he could think of to make sure that door was not doing that on its own. And it made no sense to him but freaked him out. So he slept with the lights on. Then.
