Must be president of certain states.
Visit for restrictions and details. Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Welcome back everyone. Now tonight's episode is the last one during our little hiatus. Will be back next week with the beginning of season 21. And to close us out here with season 20, I put together yet another best of episode. And I guess the topic this time was a bit too broad because I had many stories to pull from. So I narrowed this down to season one through season 13. We'll do the later episodes at another time, but for this evening, please enjoy the Best of Ouija board special season one through season 13. And to kick things off, we begin with a story many of you probably haven't heard from Monsters among us beyond number 47. Please welcome Josh to the program.
Josh (Caller)
My name's Josh.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
When I was in about seventh grade, I kept hearing about these kids playing Ouija board and they're just coming back
Narrator/Host
with all these wild stories and kind
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
of ghost stories about all the stuff
Narrator/Host
that was happening at the girl's house
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
where they were playing it. So I kind of wanted in. I'm a naturally curious person, and my number one thing I want to do was just test this thing because everybody was so adamant about it and how it worked, and there's ghosts and the oracle spelled things. I thought it was so fascinating.
Narrator/Host
This is before the age of the Internet, so I couldn't really just, like, look it up.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
I had to see it for myself. So I go to this girl's house, and I'm watching them play. And I remember at one point, you know, I asked if I could play, and it was just doing, like, the typical, I think, stuff that kind of comes from our own consciousness. You know, my house, get out, blah, blah, blah. And I put my hands on. And I remember feeling almost like a tapping at the bottom of the oracle. It was literally like somebody went on the underside of the oracle and tapped on it a couple times. And I said, that's weird. And I don't remember what it said, but I remember it started to get a lot more complicated, the stuff that it was saying. Even in my seventh grade mind, I said it would take a lot for
Narrator/Host
a group of people to collectively come
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
up with this stuff and then spell it out and make it happen.
Joe (Caller)
And it seems strange.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
So I go, you know, let me really give this thing a test. I said, I'm gonna go in the other room and I'm gonna touch something, and I want you guys to tell me what I'm touching. Ask the oracle or whatever this thing is. Say, you know, what is Josh touching right now? So the girls agree, And I go in the other room and I put my hand on the fridge. I'm in the kitchen, and I go, okay, go. And they start spelling out F, L, O, R, I, D, A Florida. And I go, ha.
Narrator/Host
Oh, that's ridiculous.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
I'm touching the fridge. I look at my hand, and my hand is touching a magnet, and the magnet is in the shape of Florida and says Florida across it. I immediately looked. I looked out the window behind me. I looked to my right in the living room. There's nobody there. I went into the room, and I was almost angry because what had just happened was so inexplicable. That's the first of a long journey and sequence of events having to do with the paranormal. So I'll call him with another one.
Thank you, Josh, for taking the time to call in. Now, folks, if you're like, josh and you have a story you would like to share here on the program, give my hotline a call at 888-6089. That's 888-608-NIG HT. Or record a voice memo and email it to me at Monsters Among Us podcast gmail dot com. Now tonight's next Ouija board story comes to us from my state of California. Please welcome John.
John (Caller)
Hi, Derek, this is John. I'm calling from California. My story took place in 1978. My family moved to Dublin in 1966 and bought our house. So we were the only ones that lived in this, and we really had no instances of anything happening. My parents would have some friends over occasionally, and I know that there was a few times that they did the Ouija board with the friends that came over. So we had a Ouija board at our house one night. School hadn't started and it was during the summer, and we had some friends over and we ended up lighting a candle, turning out the lights and trying to do the Ouija board. And at one point our dad came in and told us to turn on the light and blow out the candle because we were going to burn down the house. We ended up putting a sheet or some clothes in front of the crack of the door and tried it again. Light the candle. And we were doing the Ouija board. My sister and I both had suspicions that one or the other was pushing the planchette. And I know that several times I lifted up my hands barely over the top and it was still moving. And evidently she did the same. There was at least one of my friends was doing the planchette with us, and we think there was one other person. It started by us asking if there was a spirit in the house. And slowly, painstakingly, the planchette moved towards yes. And it took a few minutes for it to finally get to the yes. And after we got it to yes, we asked, what is your name? And without hesitation, the thing just raced around the board and it was B R A N E. And we were all excited and we ran out of the room and told our mom and dad, hey, we got this thing to
Carly (Caller)
work and we got it to save Brandy.
John (Caller)
And we were all excited, ended up going back and trying to do some more, and we got nothing. Well, I'm the oldest of eight and I was 15 at the time, and my youngest sister was four, about to turn five. And May 5th of the next year, 1979, my mom had a baby and she told us that they were going to name the child Brandy and As soon as she said that, we remembered that that's what we had got on the Ouija board. And it turns out when we told my mother and father that we had got the Ouija board to do this, my mother was already pregnant and she hadn't told anyone and she'd already had the names picked out. So it was kind of weird. I know every once in a while we still talk about this. And that's my story. Thank you.
Narrator/Host
Bye.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
Thank you, John. Now John's Story originally aired all the way back in season four, episode 12, nearly 10 full years ago. Now folks, I have to take a quick break, but we'll be right back with all sorts of Ouija board stories. Don't touch that dial. Now. My mom is super active and productive. She's constantly caring for others, cooking for everyone, crocheting blankets for every baby in her orbit, and being present at every grandchild's basketball game or school play. She never sits still and we love her for it. Most Mother's Day gifts are about one moment, but Storyworth is so much more. Storyworth gives your mom a year long experience and gives your family a book filled with the stories only she can tell. Each week, Storyworth says, sends her a question about her life. She responds however she wants, writing back of her email over the web, voice recording or, new this year, a guided phone call. No apps, logins or tech hassle. Storyworth makes it easy so she can focus on remembering and reflecting. You can even help pick out the questions. You get each story as she tells it. And after a year, Storyworth compiles everything her words, her photos, her life into a beautiful hardcover book. New this year is Storyworth's unlimited plan. Buy it once and you'll be able to give Storyworth Memoirs to friends and family all year. That means you can get all your Mother's Day gifts for mom, grandma, and any mom figure in your life. Plus take care of Father's Day while you're at it. Storyworth asks questions I've never thought to ask my mom myself. For instance, she shared an experience she had when she had to move towns as a child, leaving her best friend behind and how difficult that process was. I really appreciate how Storyworth is helping me preserve my mom's stories and get to know her even better. It's a great experience and it makes an awesome gift. This year, give mom the gift that helps her reflect on her life with fresh perspective and gives your whole family a gift of her stories. Mother's day is Sunday, May 10th. And it's just been exactly here, exactly where we thought we'd be

now. Next up, we stay in the state of California. Please welcome Joe from season five, episode six. Hey, Derek.
Joe (Caller)
This is Joe from California. Back in 1996, me and a few of my friends, when my dad was
Narrator/Host
out of town, decided to get out
Joe (Caller)
this old Ouija board and mess around with it.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
I'm a skeptic.
Joe (Caller)
I don't really believe in that stuff. So I was just having fun. I still don't believe in it, but after this experience, I have not ever
Josh (Caller)
touched a Ouija board again.
Joe (Caller)
Anyways, we're playing around with this Ouija board and it starts telling us that he's evil. And we ask it, who's evil? And it says, your dad. And we say, who's dead? And it names one of my friends that's sitting there at the table. There's four of us sitting there. Anyways, it says, my friend's dad spells out his name and one of my friends takes his hands off of the little pointer thing and he goes, oh, this is bs, you know, oh, you guys are tricking me or whatever. And just then, the chair he's sitting on breaks and all four legs of the chair go out in four different directions. And he's sitting there flat on his butt. And this is a old oak chair that my family's had forever. Of course, I fixed the chair before my dad got home from his vacation. And that chair is still alive and well and being used in his house today. And it never broke again. Maybe I fixed it better than it was, you know, maybe it all could have been circumstantial, I don't know. But my dad already told me never to mess with that Ouija board, and it's actually gone now. This all happened back in 1996, but it scared me enough that I never really messed with one again, even though I don't really believe it. And I think my friends are playing
Narrator/Host
a trick on me.
Joe (Caller)
But anyway, bye.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
Thank you, Joe, for calling in. I tell you, it was difficult to narrow down which Ouija board stories to use. We had so many. This next one takes us to the state of New Jersey, and it originally aired all the way back in season 11, episode 8. Please join me in welcoming Nikki back to the program.
Nikki (Caller)
Hi, Derek. This is Nikki from New Jersey. I just wanted to call and tell you about something weird that happened to me when I was in college. So this was my first, first semester at college. I went to College down in St. Augustine, Florida. This was in 2010. The college I went to was known to be haunted. We used to be an old hotel, and then they converted into a college. And where the girls rooms were, those used to be the old hotel rooms. There were just a lot of stories that would go on. And during our first meeting with the president, they had told us that Ouija boards were forbidden. They weren't allowed in the room. So my roommate took it upon herself to bring a Ouija board in. So she brought it in. And I'm a big skeptic. I don't think they're real or what happens with them are real. And we brought our suite mate over and a few other friends, and we're playing with this Ouija board. And of course, the one girl, she always had to be the one to have her fingers on it. And it's kind of like, well, why is something going to happen if you take your finger off? Oh, it's probably not going to move or whatever, you know. So they start asking it questions and it's moving along, and all of a sudden they said, are you here with us now? And our lights started flickering and, you know, we're girls. So we all screamed and kind of like freaked out, whatever. And then she said, can you show us another sign? And we have these two closet doors, and they're very heavy doors. It can't just close on its own. You have to physically turn the handle and close the door. And sure enough, my closet door slammed shut. And I had a collage of pictures on it. And one photo fell off. And the photo that fell off was a picture of me and this one girl. And the one girl, it was. It was very freaky. It just so happened to be a girl that had told me that she can speak to ghosts. She's kind of like a medium. So I thought that was very, very weird. Out of all of the photos that could have fell, it was a photo of me with that one girl. I thought it was just very, very weird. I didn't really understand it, but of course I freaked out. And I never, ever touched that Ouija board or went near a Ouija board again. So I don't know if you'd be able to explain that or it was probably just a weird fluke. That's what I'm gonna sum it up to. But I just wanted to Tell you that story. All right, thanks. Bye.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
Spooky stuff. Nikki, thank you again for taking the time to share. Now next up, we dip down to Kentucky. This is yet another story many of you probably haven't heard from Monsters among us beyond number 44. Please welcome Crystal to the show.
Crystal (Caller)
Hi, Derek. My name's Crystal and I've called him before. I'm from a small town in Kentucky. I was raised in a, you know, extremely Pentecostal church and things like that. So I was raised that you didn't mess with Ouija boards or anything like that. You know, that was evil. You don't bother it. Well, as a teenager, actually not a teenager. I believe we was about 12 or 13. I was staying over at a friend's house that I grew up with. It was one of my best friends and we came across a Ouija board that belonged to her brother. And we had set up in the room and was playing with it. I don't remember anything coming about while we was playing with the Ouija board. Like it wasn't moving by itself or anything like that. But her dad come in and caught us and was furious that we were playing with that. He wasn't a Christian, but he still believed in, you know, things like that were evil. So he broke it in front of us, literally broke it and took it outside and burned it in the burn barrel. And we didn't think anything else about it. We went to bed probably not long after and the next morning he came in really angry at us. Now both this girl and her dad have since passed away, but he came in really angry at us and asked us how we got another one. We didn't know what he was talking about. It didn't make any sense. He was just really mad. Hot tempered and telling us that she was grounded. It was time for me to go home. How dare us? You know, how did we get another one? Did we sneak out? I guess he thought we snatched out of the house. We finally realized what he's just talking about. We went outside with him on the porch and there was a Ouija board sitting on the porch beside the door. There was like a little bench where you sit shoes on and stuff. And it was just sitting right there on top of the vent. And we was swearing. We did not do this, you know, we didn't go anywhere. We went to bed and we went to the burn barrel where we watched him put that in there and light it on fire. And it was gone. So I don't know if the mom was buying a prairie goddess and saying that, you know, he burned that Ouija board and they was going to play a joke. Her brother wasn't home. It couldn't have been him. To my knowledge, her dad went to bed right after, never got back up. I don't know, maybe he did teach us a lesson. Possibly. You know, the only explanation I have but the one that he put in the burn barrel was gone. We watched it burn and there was one sitting by the door. Not sure how any of that happened, but that's my story. I have several more. I think that's my last one as far as things like that, but I do have a couple weird sightings and things that have happened over my 40 years on this lovely Earth. Thank you. I love your podcast. You do an awesome job. Thank you.

Anonymous Caller
Hi, I'm a huge fan of your show. I was actually calling About Season two, Episode two A caller called in about his car not quite being haunted, but having odd things happen. I used to own a Ouija board and to say the least, it got out of hand. So I got rid of it and a couple months later started having really odd things happen in my car. It started with seeing someone in the rear view mirror. A person sitting or like a shadow passing by on a empty road. I used to work at 5:30 in the morning, so it was always dark out and you're always little, half asleep. So I chalked it up to that. After about two months of this happening, radio would start turning on. My car was relatively new, so I didn't really know what was going on, but I assumed I was tired and the car was acting up. About three months later, I woke up one morning, got in my car, started driving to work and I heard sloshing in my car in the passenger seat. And I looked over and the entire passenger seat was full of water up to the seat. My side of the car wasn't touched at all. Just that side of the car full of water sloshing around. It's 5:30 in the morning. I'm at work now.
Nikki (Caller)
I didn't know what to do, so
Anonymous Caller
I just went into work and continued on my day. Took it to the shop. The guy said he hadn't seen anything like that. Thought maybe water had somehow traveled up the wheel and got into the passenger seats. Said it was really odd, but didn't
Carly (Caller)
know what to do about it.
Anonymous Caller
A couple weeks later, my car got hit. I was driving down Main street and I actually saw the woman coming to hit me. She was turning where she wasn't supposed to be, across two lanes. So I darted out of her way and she stopped her car. I made eye contact with the woman and then she slammed on the gas and T boned my car and totaled it. Broke my window in.
Nikki (Caller)
Me and my roommate were in the
Anonymous Caller
car in shock and she pushed us
Macy (Caller)
into a parking lot.
Anonymous Caller
So, you know, you get a car accident, you're scared, get out of the car. I'm shaking. And the woman sitting in her car, she gets out, walks over to me and just something about her, I don't know, it was. She was off.
Macy (Caller)
It just gave me goosebumps.
Anonymous Caller
And it wasn't just the shock of, you know, having your car totaled while you're in it or the fact that she hit me even though I was out of her way completely. It was this blank look in her eyes. And she said to me, I thought it was about time for an accident. And, you know, I thought, she's in shock, too. That's an odd thing to say. But it was just this dead look in her eyes. I don't know how to explain it. You'd have to see it. But it was as if she wasn't in control. And she didn't find it odd or explain why she hit me and slammed on her gas for no reason. After I was out of her way, a couple pedestrians came over and said, you know, I'll talk to your insurance. That was crazy. I don't know why she would have hit you. What an insane thing to happen. So my car is totaled, and I went to clean it out. And as I'm cleaning it out, you know how underneath the trunk there's a spare tire? So I thought, you know, might as well take the spare tire. As I lift up the latch for it, I see a Ouija board above my tire. And I had forgotten that I had two. I couldn't find the second one when I was disposing of the first. And I had taken it camping and left it there without realizing it.
Macy (Caller)
So for, you know, about four months
Anonymous Caller
after disposing of my first Ouija board, I had this one sitting in my car the entire time. And something about it, you know, it could have all been coincidence, sure. But I was so unnerved, I threw the board away, didn't take anything out
Macy (Caller)
of my car, and just left.
Nikki (Caller)
But anyways, as soon as I got
Anonymous Caller
rid of that car, I never had anything happen again. And I never bought another Ouija board.
Macy (Caller)
And I won't.
Anonymous Caller
Huge fan of your show. Hope you like my story.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
Thank you once again, caller, for sharing the story. Now, folks, next up, we head to the Pacific Northwest. I'm gonna feature some of the original commentary from this story, and you'll see why here in a moment. Now from season 13, episode 10, please welcome Carly to the platform.
Carly (Caller)
Hi, my name is Carly. I'm out in the Pacific Northwest, and I wanted to share this story. It's weird. So I grew up in a small town, kind of near the foothills of the Cascades. And I would kind of go out and visit different antique shops around the area. So I went to one of these antique stores, and I was looking around, and I found this cool poncho that looked like it was from Mexico and a gift for my mom. And right as I was about to leave, I saw this Ouija board just sitting on this table. And I don't know why, I just felt like it needed to come home with me. And that's really weird because I was raised very religious. And so I didn't really ever even want to touch that kind of stuff. But I just felt like this Ouija board needed to come with me. And so I asked lady how much she wanted for it, and she said 25 cents. So I grabbed it and put it in my car and took it home. And when I got home, I grabbed the other stuff. But I felt like I shouldn't bring the board into the house. And then I should just keep it in my car. And it stayed in my car for months. Months and months and months. Until finally I went to this festival that I go to every year. It's east of the mountains, it's in the desert. And we go out there and we camp and trade and play music, and it's a great time. Anyways, everybody brings different things up there to trade. And I brought my car that year. And so the Ouija board happened to come to the festival with me that year. And I felt like that's what its intention was all along. The festival lasts, like, three days. And it was the last day that we were going to be there. So I had brought everything around that I was trying to trade. I still had the Ouija board and a couple other odd things. We were walking around, and we had stopped by this bookstore, and they had this book that I really, really wanted. But the only thing the gentleman who owned the book was willing to trade it for was a jar of pickled garlic. And pickled garlic is a hot commodity around there. So I told them that I would do my best to find a jar of it, which I didn't think I was going to be able to do. So we were walking around probably for another good hour and a half, until finally we get to this one booth, and I see there's a jar of pickled garlic. So I walk up to the booth. There's nobody around. And so I kind of start calling, you know, hey, whose booth is this? And this person with a top hat comes out of the tent, and they greet me and tell me that this is their booth. And I asked them if there's anything that I had that they'd be willing to trade for this jar of pickled garlic. And the person goes, well, that's my partner's jar of pickled garlic. She's saving it. And I don't think that she's willing to trade.
Crystal (Caller)
So, sorry.
Carly (Caller)
I said, well, can I ask her maybe? And so the person left and went back in the tent. And this other person came out, the gal, and she came over and I asked her if I had anything that she would possibly want to trade for her jar of pickled garlic. And she was kind of looking through my stuff and then I remembered, oh,
Macy (Caller)
I have that Ouija board.
Carly (Caller)
And so I pulled it out and her eyes lit up to the point where, like, I noticed, and she's like, oh, my gosh. Oh my gosh. I've been waiting for one of these to come into my life. I'd absolutely be willing to, you know, trade you for this jar of pickled garlic. Let me ask my partner. And so the person with the top hat comes back out of the tent and they're kind of talking over there. And I'm trying not to be that nosy, but I, you know, kind of notice that their partner doesn't really want them to get the Ouija board, but they're pleading, please, we can name right now, blah, blah, blah, until eventually we make the trade. And the woman is so happy to have the board and all of this. And I get my jar of pickled garlic and go right back to the book stand and get the book that I wanted.
Crystal (Caller)
And, you know, we go home and
Carly (Caller)
exist for an entire another year until we go back to this festival. I'm walking around and I recognize those people that I had traded that board to. And, you know, everybody's kind of like family there. So I, I walked up to them and was like, hi, you guys, how you doing? You know, and they were super friendly, you know, hey, you know, how's it going? I was like, yeah, I remember you guys from last year. Do you remember you traded that pickled garlic to me for that Ouija board? And all of a sudden their faces just changed. They weren't happy. They went really straight faced, and without saying anything, they turned around and they walked away. And I still have no idea what happened, but I find it really odd that that board came home with me. I feel like it used me to be like a vehicle for itself or something, because where it ended up, I don't think that those people had a good time with whatever happened with that board. Anyways, thanks for letting me share. I know it's not really typically the kind of stuff that we share here, but I still got that spooky vibe. Thanks again.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
Thank you, Carly, for calling in. I'm dying to know where that board ended up. How do I get my hands on it? Coincidentally, if you have something creepy, cursed or spooky that you'd like to donate, I'LL happily give it a loving home. Just don't tell Sarah. One of these days I'm going to open a museum or exhibit or something, so trust me when I say it'll be in good hands. So if that's you, just shoot me an email or something. Thank you Carly. As you just heard, I encourage people to send me objects they believe are haunted. I'm either stupid or brave, and many of you have obliged me over the last couple of months, including Casey down in Kentucky. She recently sent me an antique Ouija board. Now, it's a bit worn and torn, but that makes it all the better. Now the best guess I have is that it's from the 60s, it's the Parker Brothers version, but the board is solid, not the cardboard you got in the 80s, 90s and today. So I'm going to add this creepy addition to my collection and I'll certainly let everyone know if something strange were to happen surrounding the board. But in the meantime, a big thanks to Casey for helping me to preserve the object

Carly (Caller)
Hi, Derek.
Danny (Caller)
My name is Danny. It was spring of 2009. My band that I was in at the time had just finished recording what would become our debut full length in Los Angeles. And we had kind of known that the title of the record was going to be Read My Palm Revenant. Revenant, obviously, being like, a vengeful spirit or some sort of, like, zombie returned from the grave to exact some sort of, I guess, vengeance on someone. Anyway, we finished recording, and we were in the artwork phase of the record, and we kind of spitballed some different ideas back and forth. And one thing we kept coming back to was kind of doing like a seance with a Ouija board.
John (Caller)
We were like, oh, we'll get a Ouija board.
Danny (Caller)
You know, we have a photographer friend and we'll act like we're doing a seance. And that'll be either the COVID or the artwork on the inside of the album. We had a couple people in our band that were a little more than hesitant to go and partake in this. They believed that the Ouija board actually did communicate with, you know, a different world, other spirits. I was not one of them. I was kind of the one at the time, Rah rah ing to go forth with it. So, long story short, after probably a couple weeks of going back and forth, the other two guys, who were kind of hesitant, relinquished their hold on not doing it. And my best friend and I decided to actually go get the Ouija board
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
so we could do the photo shoot.
Danny (Caller)
We ended up going to Target. We had talked about getting the Ouija board while we were in the car driving to Target. But once we got in the parking lot, you know, I think we just. We were kind of in that mission mode. We got out of the car and we pretty much beelined it straight to the back of the Target, where they have the games and all that. And as we're back there, you know, we're maybe 10, 15ft apart, he and I, you know, looking for this Ouija board, because I never looked for one. I don't think he had either. And we'd only heard that they sold them at Target. But anyway, we weren't talking to each other, and we heard a voice behind us. And we're startled to find a woman speaking in a very thick Atlantic island accent, like tropical accent. And she said that you're looking for a Ouija board. Now, mind you, I did not have a Ouija board in my hands. Neither did he. And we hadn't talked at all. While we were there, we didn't say, hey, I found the Ouija board. We were kind of just scanning it. I think we had both seen the Ouija board, he and I, at the same time, when the voice came from behind us and we said, yeah, we're Ouija board. And she said something effective like, don't do that. And obviously, very startled to begin with, he and I kind of looked at each other and said, okay. And we decided to walk away while she was still standing there. And we made our way down into, like, the main aisle that kind of leads back towards the front of the store. And I don't know if he did, but I definitely turned behind me and I did not see her behind us. And we had maybe been walking for, I don't know, five or 10 seconds. It was not very long. Now, I'll give the fact that maybe she went behind a different aisle or something to that nature, but I guess the fact still remains. And I'm sitting here talking about this, kind of still in disbelief that this happened. In fact, I actually called my friend before I called into your show to make sure he had the same experience as I did. And he relayed pretty much the exact same thing that I'm telling you right now. And it's kind of chilling because I've never had an experience like that at all before. After. So, anyway, that's my story. Thanks for putting on this podcast. Keep it up and thanks so much.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
Have a good day. Big thanks, Danny. We appreciate you taking the time to ring in. Now back to the Pacific Northwest we go, this time from season 13 episode 13. Please welcome Dakota to the airwaves.
Narrator/Host
Hey, Derek. My name is Dakota. I'm from Oregon, and this one is actually about a Ouija board. And I've only really been around those a few times. And the last time, which is the most recent also that I've used one, was about probably 10 years ago. It was actually my older sister and one of her friends. They convinced each other and me to kind of just see what would happen because we grew up in a really haunted house, my parents house, where they still live. Anyway, we just thought, we'll see what happens if we, you know, try to contact. So they basically were just asking if anybody was there and normal questions. And it took a little bit. We all had our fingers on the planchette. And I have always been skeptical of a third party when it comes to Ouija boards. Like, I trust my sister because her and I have both experienced a lot of stuff together. And also separately but neither of us will just lie about it because there's no reason to, because we've both seen and heard so much that it's. There's just no point to lie to each other. And we don't, like, try to scare each other or anything like that. And out of nowhere, they asked a question. I think they said, is anybody here? And, I mean, I was just along for the ride. I wasn't asking any questions. I told them both, I don't want to do that. I just want to watch and be a witness. But I still did have my hand on the planchette, and it went to yes. And then at the time, we had a really old boxer. She was probably, like, 13, and she was sleeping in the living room. We were like, in the kitchen, which is open to the living room. There's like two entrances to the kitchen from the living room, and there's no doors. They're just like doorways. And we were actually, like, in the end, that was more of a dining room. So there was a table that we were sitting at, and my dog was laying, like, directly parallel to us, but in the living room right by the front window. And out of nowhere, after they asked if anybody was there, she stood up and started barking, like, really, really loud. And this was probably like 11 o' clock at night, and it was just us three there, besides the dog. So she started barking. And she was staring right out the front window, which, keep in mind, was closed with two layers of curtains. So not only would she not be able to see anything out there, but she was dead asleep. And when I say, like, she was asleep, she was a really old dog. Like I already said, she was, like, 13, and she was already hard of hearing and sight at the time, so she would not have been able to hear anything loud enough to at least not to wake her up. And she never would bark. Like, the only time she would bark is if she was playing. Because my parents, actually, I think we did have our little dog at the time, too. They still have him, too.
Jacob (Caller)
He's.
Narrator/Host
He's like a Chihuahua mix. But he would bug her and she would bark at him just to be like, you know, leave me alone. But she never barked at anybody ever. So that scared me by itself. And the fact that she was standing at attention just staring at the front window really freaked me out. And I stopped and I just said, I'm done with this. I'm going to bed. Basically, because, you know, when animals detect stuff, that freaks me out more than almost anything, because it's scary enough to know that I've seen things and experienced things, but when my animals also can confirm that, especially an elderly one that is really hard of hearing in sight, it's extra creepy to me. And once they said goodbye, she stopped. And that was enough confirmation. So I just, I noped out of there basically. But forever. I'm done with Ouija boards. Thanks for letting us call and letting us share our experiences. I appreciate it. Have a good one.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
Thank you, Dakota. It's the kind of thing that'll make your skin crawl. Now gang, let's run one more before we have to play our next AD. So all the way from season six, episode 19, please welcome Ray to the show.
Josh (Caller)
Hey Derek. This is Ray calling again with a story that's not my. Mine is from my mom when she was younger. So she has five siblings, so the big family. And she was the youngest. And so they grew up in a good old fashioned Irish Catholic family. So a lot of things that they did kind of were rebellious. So one thing that my three aunt did one day was play with a Ouija board. This was in like the 70s, maybe 80s to where I don't think that people understood what they were messing with. Now they lived at was haunted where they kind of had weird things happening, but they were kind of messing around in their rooms which was in the
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
attic at that point.
Josh (Caller)
It was a one long attic with a few rooms. And so they were playing with the Ouija board. I don't believe they really found anything, said anything, but a day or two later my uncle, actually my mom's uncle, was a prankster. And so they heard someone coming up the stairs like in a hurry, just kind of trying to get up somewhere to scare them. And so they're getting ready to act scared and all of a sudden they heard on one of the landing just a big fall, like someone fell down. And they're coming to each other and they finally decided to go run to make sure that he was okay. So they run over and they looked on the landing and there was nobody there. So they're like, okay, well this was the joke. So I ran downstairs to say we got you. Why are you trying to mess with us? And they found that they were actually technically home alone. It was my two aunts and my mom. And my mom was pretty young, so she technically didn't know this. So it's weird because my three aunts became very, very religious to where we don't talk about ghosts in front of them, we don't talk about anything suspicious or that kind of stuff because of their viewpoints. And so finally one day they were talking about it and it came up in October when my mom's uncle passed away, kind of because he said they were prankster and there's a few times where they thought that he was pranking them, but it turned out that he wasn't even around. And so it was just kind of one of those crazy stories that I never would have thought would have happened because of how my aunts are now because they're religious, they wouldn't mess around with it, but in fact, they did. Anyway, love the podcast. Bye
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
now. A big thanks to Ray and his mother for that terrifying entry. Now gang, it's time to take another quick break. But don't worry, I'll be right back
at no cost.
It seemed like that.

Now folks, off to Missouri we go for this next one. And this is another that you might not have heard before. Hailing from Monsters Among Us beyond, episode number 47, Jacob. Welcome to the show.
Jacob (Caller)
Hi, my name is Jacob from Missouri. This story ended up happening to me and a couple of my friends whenever we were using a Ouija board. It was about June or July of 2018. We've used Ouija boards before. We kind of got a few different things that happened, but nothing really major. But this last time that we ended up using a Ouija board, we ended up stopping completely because this incident happened. So on this night, we think we Went out at like 10 o' clock at night and we went to this place near where I live in St. Charles called Chesterfield, Missouri. And when we went out there, we went with me and my buddy and my nephew and a friend that one of my buddies met and we went out to this shack that we had been out to before and we didn't ever get anything the last time we went there and we ended up going there and we sat down and we had like a bunch of candles and stuff like that, and we set them around the Ouija board and we were pretty much asking questions and, you know, all this other stuff, pretty much waiting. And we'd probably answered questions for like 30 minutes and nothing happened. So, you know, we started seeing the candles started like pointing towards the board and, you know, this time we still didn't have any answers from the actual pointer. So we saw that the candles are freaking out. So we put all the candles to the side and we started asking more questions. And we saw that, you know, the candles were kind of like flickering to every question I asked. So I told the thing whenever I was asking the question that if the answer was yes, make the, you know, candles go crazy, and if it's no, just keep the candle still. So every question that we asked when it was a yes, it would kind of go crazy. If it was no, it would stay still. So I thought some of my buddies for a while were messing with me, so I told them to look up, like, you know, away from the candles, and I kind of blew on it and they weren't moving. And then I blew on it harder and then the candles were actually reacting to me trying to blow on him. So I. We were kind of all freaking out, like, well, this is real. So we were asking questions, you know, if it was born here and, you know, we asked it how it died, which is a pretty stupid question. We realized at the time after asking numerous amount of questions and asking if it had, you know, families, because the questions that we had answers to, we could only get a yes or no from the candles because it wouldn't communicate with the board. But after a while of us asking questions, we realized one question that they asked, well, that I asked, one of the other people in our group realized I kind of repeated a question by accident. And she kind of picked up on it and realized that it gave a completely different answer. So after that moment, it was completely quiet outside. Nothing. Like there was no wind blowing that night. And as soon as after, when we asked that question, she realized something was wrong. We heard four loud footsteps outside of the door, like coming around the corner to the shack and it sounded like cracking in leaves and it sounded like someone was wearing boots. And it came right to the door and we all freaked out. And the girl though, who's sitting close to the door, didn't hear anything. So we were all confused on how she couldn't hear any of it. But as soon as that happened, we grabbed the board, we blew out the candles and we straight booked through the door because I mean, the footsteps were right outside of the door. Whenever, you know, it ended up stopping and there was no sound at all out there.
Narrator/Host
So we booked it back to the
Jacob (Caller)
car and you know, left. And that was the last experience with that. We stopped using the board after that night since it freaked us out so bad. So I appreciate, you know, listening to the story. I think you're really doing a great job with your show and talk to you later.
Derek Hayes (Monsters Among Us Host)
A big thanks to Jacob for calling in. And folks, that takes us down to the final entry here this evening. From the state of Utah in season 12 episode 13, please welcome Macy to the show.
Macy (Caller)
Hey Derek, I'm Macy. I'm from Utah. This story took place place probably about seven years ago. I was a single mom. I was living with my oldest son who was very little at the time. Little enough to sleep in a crib. And at that time I had a best friend, I'll just call him Jay for the first letter of his name. And he would come and hang out with me and we would chill. We have always been into the paranormal. And he introduced me to a Ouija board. So we would play it, we would just have fun. We didn't really expect very much from our experience playing with it. But one night it started spelling things and we couldn't really make sense of what it was saying. So we decided to just write letters down as it was spelling on to us and try to find decipher it. After we were done playing it kept repeating the same letters and all we could get out of it was what we thought said pew dove right? And we couldn't understand it or decipher it. Anyhow, life moved forward and Jade got a graveyard shift job and we stopped hanging out. But after that incident a few months later, I had come home exhausted. I was working two jobs and I
Nikki (Caller)
laid down on my bed.
Macy (Caller)
My eyes had just closed. I was not asleep. I just had barely closed my eyes and I heard someone say my name. But they didn't say it out loud, they whispered it. And it was Very bizarre, they said. Maybe they dragged out the syllables. My eyes popped open and my first thought was that a friend had come in or my son's father to stop by for something. So I immediately ran down the hall into the living room to see if anyone was playing a prank on me. When I saw the front door, my heart sank. It was completely bolt locked and no one had a key. So I knew that I was alone in my apartment. It freaked me out. So I had never heard of smudging or staging at that time. I didn't know any means of getting rid of any dark entity or what I thought at the time was a dark entity. A few nights later, I had a dream, a really, really horrible nightmare about my baby. In the dream, I had walked down the hall to check on him. It was very, very dark. I couldn't see where I was going. I could hear it clanking like a ding, ding, ding, ding. I walked into his room, and in my dream, he was sitting in his crib. His eyes were pure white, and he was danging a spoon back and forth. Ding, ding, ding, ding on the crib bars. So I woke up breathless. I was terrified out of my mind. And I walked to my kitchen sink. And I have no idea why this particular night I went to the kitchen sink instead of my bathroom sink. But I went to splash water on my face in my kitchen sink. And as I was bringing myself back up, splashing water on my face, I was standing back up. A chandelier that was positioned directly above my feet came crashing down. It was so loud. Shards of glass was flying everywhere. Shards of glass cut me on my arms. And I knew for sure there was something in this apartment. So my son and I moved out shortly after. A few years went by. I was in a different house, and I reconnected with Jay. I invited him over for coffee to see how he was doing. And he came over and he said, for old time's sake, what if I bring my Ouija board? And I was like, yeah, that would be fun. I have another friend from work who's going to come over tonight too. And it was the person from my work, my friend. It was his first time ever playing one, so he didn't really know how it worked. And he decided just kind of just to watch. Coincidentally, Jay still had the notebook, I guess, just in the box. He kept the Ouija board in with him. And he pulled it out and put it next to him so he could write the letters of what we were seeing. It had been a few years, so we completely forgot about, you know, whoever was on the Ouija board previously or whatever experiences had happened. And suddenly Adrian looked at the notebook and he just went completely white. He just. All of the blood rushed out of his face and he just went white. So Jay and I asked our friend Adrian why he was so freaked out. And he said, macy, I didn't know you spoke Spanish. And I was surprised. And I'm like, what do you mean? I don't speak Spanish? But he said, yeah, you must. Because on that notebook, for some reason it says a Spanish thing. It says like, Puerto Verte. Puerto Verte. I don't know if I'm. I probably sound so white, so I apologize if I hack that. But he said it meant I can see you or I see you in Spanish. And that really freaked Jason and I out. Anyway, after this incident, a friend taught me about energy and about staging your health and how energy can affect your surroundings and affect a lot of things around you. And basically what I think happens is I absolutely believe in the paranormal. I've seen dark enemies. I've experienced very horrific feelings. And science talks about how there is cellular intelligence and how on a cellular basis, and even deeper than that, we hold energy all the way on a quantum scale. It's just energy. So my belief is that we attract, based on this energy that we have in our body, we can attract positivity or negativity similar to a battery, and that I had attracted something negative during that period of time in my life. Anyway, I absolutely love your show and thank you for the chance to share.
