Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Hello, folks and welcome back to the program. You picked a good night to join us because I have a great lineup slated for this evening. All sorts of weirdness to share, including, but not limited to stark white figures, a world famous monster, and miraculous healing, but it's with death. We begin here this evening, a tale about loss and what might be waiting for us on the other side. Please welcome Nick from the state of Idaho.
Nick from Idaho
Howdy, Derek. And listeners, this is Nick and from Idaho. So my uncle was in a hospice in Providence, Rhode island, last year, and we flew over there from Idaho, you know, to be by his bedside. He had a liver cirrhosis and was fading quick. And it happened so fast, like we could barely get tickets and get over there in time. And so we did make it in time and we were by his bedside. We watched him slip away and it was, you know, pretty emotionally moving and kind of gave us a couple minutes to, you know, spend with him. And we did so, and then, you know, I got up and started going to get some of his belongings and I noticed the nurse was kind of waiting at the door, kind of tapping her foot in a way, you know, not being disrespectful by any means, but she was just wanting to get the next patient in, get him out. And so this would have been about three minutes after she pronounced him dead. And I get my mom up and give her a hug and she walked out of the room to go talk at the nurse's station. And I was just in the room along with my uncle that is now deceased. So the layout of the room from my position when this event happened. His bed was at about my 11 o' clock position, the toe of his bed, you know, and his head was just, you know, continue that. 12 o' clock, it was about where his head. So the toe of his bed was facing towards me. And the doorway to the room is at about 8:00'. Clock. And I was turning clockwise together some of his stuff. Just as I was turning, I noticed in my periphery there was motion, you know, far off to my left. It was a large, about maybe the size of a football. Patch of luminous white goldish light almost with like tinsely beginning and ends and, yeah, kind of shimmery. And in my mind it was incredibly bizarre because I would have very easily just kept turning and getting his stuff together and blowing it off, which makes absolutely no sense. So I'm trying to like look at this thing and it's moving towards the doorway and it's about hip height and I'm turning away and then it's like, you know, don't mind me, sort of because I thought it was maybe a dust particle or something in the air. And it's like the size of a football. Come on, Nick. Like, it's not the dust particle. It's like, okay, wait, what the hell is that? So I turn and I see this thing and you know, I don't want to say like that it was my uncle because, you know, there's many people that pass away in those rooms. So you know, I can't be specific like that, nor do I really even know what it was. And it was moving towards the doorway at about walking pace. But what was more peculiar is it more look like a window into someplace else. And this window into this other place looked as though if it was like a pane of glass only a couple inches beyond that I could see detail. And the detail I saw it was a quick glance and only lasted a couple seconds. So I'm trying to make sense of this, so bear with me. And it does sound bizarre, but it almost looked like the hemming of the pocket, like Levi jeans in a way. That's the only way I could really describe it. But it wasn't blue, like, colored. It was kind of that goldish white kind of shimmery kind of look to it. But it almost looked like a little tear in the, you know, time space where you're actually, like viewing something moving on the other side. And so this thing's moving towards the doorway and I'm just watching it and, like, it makes a turn and this really smooth, just perfect turn, like if it was a train on a track. And the way it moved was just so, so weird.
Josh from Pennsylvania
I don't know.
Nick from Idaho
It's an indescribable effect. And so it was very smooth. It didn't change elevation. It just made a nice smooth curve to the door. And just as it passed the doorway, it was gone. Just kind of faded out and he dissipated. And only a few moments later, my mom came back in the room and I was like, did you see that? She's like, see what? And I told her, I was like, I might have just seen him leave the room, which was pretty special to see, you know, and it gives you hope that there's something else on the other side and that they're happy. But the thing that does make me wonder is how come he obeyed the laws of physics, that the doorway was there and, like, it went for the door and went out of the room. And he didn't stop to, like, say hi to me and give me a pat on the back or anything though, or a hug, you know, so it's kind of like wherever he was, I don't think he could see me. But physics of this reality seemed to blend into this one. So that's my story. It's kind of a strange one, but that's the first ghost type thing I've ever seen. And I always enjoy the podcast. I listen to it every time. And I've been listening to it for about seven years. Something like that. Keep it going, man. I love it. Good stuff. All right, thanks, folks.

Thanks, Nick, for the entry. Now, you know, last season we shared a couple of calls similar to this one, and that the witnesses also saw some sort of glimmery, shiny, brightly lit football size and shaped object hovering overhead. But somehow those accounts feel a little different from what Nick is reporting here, because I can't help but think that whatever this was, it had something to do with Nick's recently deceased uncle. Now, if it wasn't the uncle directly that Nick witnessed, perhaps it was some sort of guide sent to usher him off to whatever the next step is. It's an incredible experience, Nick, and I wish I had more I could tell you, but your theories here are just as good, if not better than mine. But I can say however, that whatever it was, it sounded like a life changing experience. And we thank you again Nick for sharing that experience here with us. Ryan from Michigan
Hello, my name is Ryan Martin. I'm from southeast Michigan. I have a story that I've never particularly shared with anyone, but it rattles around in my head for so much, I figured there's probably not a better place to do it. I'm 43 now, but back when I got out of high school, When I was 19 or 20, I dated this woman that I had met through another friend of mine. So she didn't grow up in her town or anything, but I dated her and I fell madly in love with this girl. But nobody, my family, my friends, nobody really liked her. There was no real reason. She wasn't rude, she wasn't, you know, particularly crazy. She didn't do anything off putting that I could tell. But my mother didn't like her, my sisters, nobody really liked her. But we were together for quite a while. Not a lot of weird things happened, except for twice. One night we were sleeping and I woke up and was awake. I don't think I was dreaming. I don't ever remember my dreams. But I woke up and she was laying next to me facing the wall. And she turned around and her face wasn't. Wasn't her face. It was a. It's hard to explain. I almost want to say, like, it was a monster. It was vaguely humanoid. I don't want to say it looked like a reptile, because it didn't. I don't know, large, sunken cavity, eyes, very unpleasant look. And it was only for about not even three seconds. And it scared me so much that I jumped right out of the bed, terrified. And when I looked at her, her face was back to normal and she looked really uneasy. She didn't really ask me what happened. I shrugged it off. After, you know, a couple hours, it really, really shook me. And about two months later, it happened again. And after that, things got progressively weirder. She was more standoffish. She would start arguments over small things. And we eventually broke up. But at the same time, I was still head over heels in love with her. It was a hard breakup. I didn't want to break up with her as much as she terrified me. And I guess what's even more strange about the story is that through the years, she has kept up with me. Like I said, I'm 43 now, and whether it's Facebook or whether it is some other social media platform, I'll find her hovering around the edges. Although she moved out of the state, she hasn't ever remarried as far as I could see, or had children, and seems to be keeping track of me, if that makes sense. I don't know where to put that, what to say about it, or, I guess, how to exactly explain how terrifying it was. That's what I got. Thank you. And it's a great show.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Ryan. Well, I think we figured out why no one liked her. What in the hell was that all about? Was she some sort of shapeshifter? Is. Or was she possessed? Or perhaps she was just an alien. I have no idea what Ryan saw, but I'm here for it. I'm dying to know the truth as well, and the fact that she's still sort of hanging around in the shadows. Well, if Ryan ever comes up missing, I think we all know where to look. So a big thanks for making our skin crawl here, Ryan. We appreciate the phone call. And folks, let's say you have a story you would like me to share here in the program. How do you go about submitting you might be asking. Well, it's super easy. Just call 888-608-SNIGHT. That's 888-608-NIGHT. And leave your story in the form of a voicemail. Or if you want your recording to sound stellar, record it using the voice memo app on your phone and email it to me at monsters among us podcastmail.com and that's it. It's all super simple. But do remember these guidelines. Don't call from a moving car. Don't call from a loud place. Don't call a story in more than once, and don't tell more than one story per call. You can call back as much as you want to. And please don't make your story up. It's imperative that each story is true. And that's it. Like I said, super simple. That's what caller's like Carla did. She's tonight's next contributor.
Carla from California
Hi, my name is Carla and I'm originally from the Inland Empire in California. But my story takes place about, it's an hour away from Frankfurt, Germany. And the reason why I was in Germany was because this program allowed me to go spend one summer in Germany while this host sister of mine was allowed to spend one summer here in California. After she came, I went over there into Germany and I was staying over at her parents house. And this house was pretty big. The parents sleep downstairs. There's a long hallway upstairs and one side of the hallway was where my whole sister and her brother slept. And then the far left side of the hallway down would be a spare bedroom where I slept. And next door would be, I would say it was kind of like an attic or like a workroom. So when I was staying there in Germany, the requirement was I would try and experience school at a gymnasium for a couple weeks. And so what happens at the Skinnasium, which is different from American schools, is that there is a week and B week. I was not used to waking up at different times to get to class. I didn't understand it. My host sister was called her Anna. She would show me the schedule and she offered me, okay, well I'm gonna knock on your door to wake you up. I'm like, yeah, that should be fine. And these doors, let me tell you, they're thick. They're definitely built for winter compared to California. Our doors are thin. Their doors are like thick and they're heavy to open. And so I would get up to go to school, she would knock on the door, we will go. And this happened like halfway through the week on my first Week of school, going there one day I hear laughter. And I don't know why, it just kept going. And so I'm there in bed just listening to this laughter. And the more I listen to sounds like a little girl. And I'm like, okay, maybe it's Anna. Maybe she's on the other side of the door. Maybe she's laughing at something, maybe she's looking at her phone. But it just kept going and going. I'm like, that's odd. Why isn't she knocking on my door? Why isn't she waking me up to go to school? Isn't it time? And so the more I think about it, the more I'm getting annoyed. Like, what's going on? What's so funny that you're waking me up this way instead of just like, hey, knock on the door, just go, hey, just wake up. I'm facing the wall. So then as I get up, I'm rolling away from the wall towards the rest of the room and I see nothing. Laughing stops. And that freaks me out. But also at the same time it makes me mad because I'm like, what are you doing? So I open this door and I run down the hall and I'm pretty mad because I'm like, what's going on? And I find my host sister, Anna. She is doing her hair with a curling iron. And I kind of almost yell at her. I'm like, hey, why are you laughing and not waking me up? She's like, what do you mean? I'm like, yeah, why are you laughing? And she's like, what do you mean? I've been curling my hair. And I look at her and she's on the floor looking at a mirror and she is in the middle of curling her hair. And I'm thinking, okay, I better stop before she thinks I'm crazy. And I swear after that I tell myself, okay, let's reevaluate. Like, Anna has a deeper voice that sounded like a little girl. I feel like this sounded more like a little six year old if I think about it. And I don't know what's going on, but I think I'm gonna keep this to myself because I'm in Germany, I'm with the host family, and I don't want them to think I'm crazy. So I just leave it at that. But for the next nine weeks, staying at her house, nothing else weird happened. But what I do know is that before I came to the house, her grandmother passed away. And from what I gather is that the grandmother would stay in that room. And they renovated that room after the grandmother passed away. So makes me wonder, was this sound of a little girl related to the grandmother? I don't know. So that's my story. I hope you guys enjoy it. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Carla. That's a fun ghost experience to have. It's fairly benign. There's no real threat there, and it's not overtly scary, but it is just creepy enough. And the best part of it all is that it occurred in someone else's home. In theory, you can leave all that strangeness behind you. Now, the description of the ghostly laughing got my wheels turning, and I began to wonder what a laughing ghost might sound like. So I sent Delaney on a wild goose chase in search of a few prime examples of ghostly laughter. And as she always does, she came through. So sit back while I share these EVPs with you. Beginning with this one, captured at the old Geelong jail in Victoria, Australia, an infamously haunted location that was used from 1853 all the way to 1991. The following clip is courtesy of YouTube user Damien Fraser. Now, I can't help but think that this sounds more like a squeaky door or some sort of shore bird than it does a ghost laughing. But there's no doubt that it's still spooky as hell, especially if you heard it in a haunted prison. Now this next one comes to us from beatty mansion in St. Joseph, Missouri, captured by Restless Spirits Para Research. Now, this one's a little harder to explain away because that sounds like laughter to me. Now here's another example taken just down the road from me, any place the researchers only referred to as Wine Valley, California. The folks that captured it, Fulltek Paranormal, claim you can hear the disembodied laugh of a ghostly prospector. Let's give it a listen. John, you heard that, right? Now it sounds like there might be a lot of people in this recording. So knowing for certain that the laughter wasn't coming from one of the living nearby seems nearly impossible. Now, this next one was caught on a home security camera back in March of 2019. This one property of mine haunted on YouTube. Now, if you watch the video, there's a dog sleeping in the middle of the shot. So maybe it somehow made this sound. Or perhaps the walls are really thin and we're simply hearing a neighbor. Now this last one is something a little more akin to what Carla just reported. The ghostly laughter of a child recorded at the Black Swan Inn near San Antonio, Texas. This clip courtesy of KSAT ABC News 12 out of San Antonio, are there any children here with us right now?

Are you a little girl? Now this one seems too good to be true if you ask me. A little too on the nose, but I've linked to each of these EVPs in tonight's show notes. Go spend some time listening yourself. Maybe you come to a different conclusion. Real or fake? There's something unsettling about this sort of phenomenon. Something most of us don't find funny at all. Thank you again, Carla, for sharing your strange experience. Alright gang, it's time for another quick break. Now, next up we hear from Hannah. Please welcome her to the program.
Hannah from Michigan
Hi Derek, my name is Hannah. I'm calling from Michigan. Go blue. I'm just calling to tell you about a weird haunted object story that I have. So it's my senior year of college and I'm walking around campus with some of my friends and we're walking one of my friends, dogs. We're walking through a neighborhood and I see a briefcase looking thing on the side of the road which means that whoever owned it was giving it away for free. So I got excited because I love going through people's things that they're giving away. And so I recognized this as a record player and I was really excited because record players are not super cheap. And this was a newer one so it had like an aux hookup so I could possibly play stuff with my phone on it. Anyway, I open it up, it looks brand new, looks like it's in great condition. So I take it home and I'm super excited. I get a couple vinyls from the thrift store and I play those on the record player. And it's fun, it works. But I don't have an aux cord to hook up to it, so I don't really use it that much. There'd be some days where I'd play a vinyl on it and then kind of just leave it on without the vinyl on the turntable anymore. And keep in mind that this record player doesn't have any Bluetooth or radio capabilities. It just has AUX capabilities. But I didn't have an aux cord for for it at the time. And I would hear these little. The best way I can describe it is like little voices or like you left a podcast on in your earbuds and your earbuds are no longer in your ears. So like very small, very quiet. And I couldn't figure out where these voices were coming from. And I traced it back to the record player. I'm like, that's weird. I don't know where the sound is coming from. But it would stop when I turned the record player off. So not a huge deal. Eventually I just kind of stopped using the record player because I figured I have a smartphone, I can listen to any music, you know, from Spotify or something. And I just kind of stopped using it. Well, one of my housemates tells me a few months later that she was looking to buy a record player. And I told her, hey, you can have mine, like, and I jokingly told her that it was haunted. And I kind of told her about it and she said, said, oh, that's funny. And I gave it to her. And the next morning I woke up to a text from her that said, hey, can I give you the record player back? And I was immediately like, oh my gosh, what happened? Like, I was joking about the haunting thing. And she said, well, I brought it up to my room and as soon as I brought it up to my room, my poster started falling off the walls. And then my dog started going crazy. She has a about a year old dog and he was not happy. And his toy flew off of her bed and kind of flew across the room. And then she had a fish tank that started like vibrating and making a very loud noise. She plugged in the record player and she heard the same music or voices that I was hearing, except she described it as like old timey bluegrass music. And she decided she'd had enough of this and she put it in her like three seasons porch and everything kind of stopped when she put it like outside. So yeah, I Don't know. That was weird. And then towards the end of our lease in that house, our house got broken into and the record player was among the items that was stolen. So I hope whoever broke into our house has fun with whatever was trapped in that record player. Anyway, thanks for listening. Love the show. All right, bye.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Anna. And go Bucks. Now, could you imagine breaking into a home, stealing an object, only to learn later that it's haunted or possessed? Or maybe you don't figure it out for a while. I think they call that karma. Now, my team and I wondered if there were a few other similar stories floating around out there. Tales of haunted record players. And while we didn't strike out, we didn't exactly hit the mother load either. Back in 1891, there was an article in the Morning Star out of Washington, D.C. that detailed what they called a haunted phonograph. Sort of the precursor to the modern record player. In 1937, the Johnson City Chronicle out of Tennessee wrote of a record that switched sides. The song that was once on one side somehow migrated to the other and vice versa. I guess. It was a slow news day. And of course, there are a few tales of haunted jukeboxes spread throughout the country, all of which can be found in tonight's show notes, by going to monsters among us podcast.com and by clicking on the Show Notes tab. And then we stumbled upon this story out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin that I kinda liked. A tale of a haunted radio that, despite years of change, hasn't gone anywhere.
Hannah from Michigan
It's been owned by different people called different names. Krall's Hall, Kokopelli's, shipwrecked. Today, it's Lehman Brewing. Kyle Ida runs the place with his wife Sarah. He walks to a dark corner in the back of the pub and points to a box in the shadows.
Derek Hayes
Ta da.
SpinQuest Advertiser
Haunted radio. This is an old Sears Zenith model.
Hannah from Michigan
The so called haunted radio, been there for decades. It's dark wood, about the size of a boombox, and it's clearly very old. When Kyle and Sarah bought the place, waitresses from bygone bars told them about the ghost.
SpinQuest Advertiser
The old employees were like, well, there's cold drafts in the building and the lights flicker. And I'm like, it's a really old building. It's built in the 1890s.
Hannah from Michigan
And they'd say, well, what about the radio?
SpinQuest Advertiser
Like, the radio is always on. Don't you think you just forgot to turn the radio off? She's like, no, the radio's got tubes in it. It won't work.
Hannah from Michigan
Vacuum tubes, those light bulb looking things used in electronics before transistors replaced them in the 50s.
SpinQuest Advertiser
When they would come in in the morning, it would always be playing one song. It was the slow dance of the old owner, Joe Sarek and his wife.
Derek Hayes
Now that clip, courtesy of npr. Now that's one of those fun ghost stories, if you ask me. A radio that shouldn't work but does being passed down with the building. It's one of those feel good ghost stories. Now you can read that entire article and hear about those jukeboxes, phonographs and other haunted media players by visiting those show notes. Or you can find it all on this week's Monster Missive, a weekly breakdown slapped together by the Monsters Among Us team. You can find it on all levels of Patreon. Fun stuff, Hannah. And a lesson to every garbage picker and home invader out there. You never really know what you're bringing home. Now moving on to something a little more sinister. Please welcome Anonymous to tonight's program.

I just wanted to call in and share a story that I had as a kid. I've always been into ghost and the paranormal. Growing up, we lived in multiple houses and one stuck out in particular. We lived in a apartment complex on the southeast side of Indianapolis and I was about eight years old. We had some weird experiences go on in the house. Nothing too crazy. Lights flipping on and off, TVs going on and off. But one thing in particular stuck out was one night my brother and I were asleep and my bed had faced the doorway and I had fallen asleep and had woken up in the middle of the night with a weird feeling. Something told me to look over at the door frame. So when I looked over at the door frame, I saw this bright shining figure. It had to been every bit of 8ft tall. It was the brightest white light I've ever seen in my entire life. I instantly got shocked, threw my covers over my head and just hoped to God that it would go away and it was just a dream. So as I slowly peeled the covers back off my head, it was standing right above me. And as this entity or whatever it was stood there and stared at me, it slowly leaned down and touched me and it was the coldest chill I've ever felt my entire life. And at this point I was frozen solid. So I throw the covers back on over me, hoping to God, you know, as a kid it would go away. And when I go to peek again, it's walking out the door. So at this point I'm yelling for my brother you know, I'm like, luke, wake up. Luke, wake up. Get up, get up, get up. He finally wakes up. I said, shut the door, shut the door. He gets up, walks to the door and sees the light emanating off the wall, looks around the corner and sees it walking down the stairs. And as it walks down the stairs, it goes right out the front door and never to be seen again. So I just wanted to chime in and share one of my stories. Love the show, love everything about it and enjoy listening to it during the week.
Nick from Idaho
Thanks.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, caller, for bringing it. What do you suppose that was? The White Walkers from Game of Thrones come to mind here. And I'd be inclined to think this was merely some sort of dream or sleep paralysis episode if it weren't for the fact that the brother saw it as well. That's not typically how dreams or sleep paralysis work. They're usually not shared experiences. Now, I'm not sure exactly where that leaves us. I have no other good counter argument to what her caller just claimed. So with cases like this, I just sit back and enjoy the tale, every terrifying moment of it. Thank you again, caller, for taking the time to share. And speaking of tall, strange figures, I have one more story to share with you detailing a similar entity. An entity that I thought would pair with our previous call like a fine wine. So from the great American Southwest, please welcome Chris out of Arizona.
Chris from Arizona
Hi Derek. This is Chris from Glendale, Arizona. My encounter takes place in Phoenix when I would assume I was about five or six years old. I have had many paranormal experiences in my life. Unfortunately, what happened to me only comes in bits and pieces of memory, but it's been enough to stick with me through my entire life. I remember waking one night to our neighbor's dogs barking. I shared a bed with my brother at the time and he was fast asleep. We had a window right next to our bed and I sat up and I saw a figure in this window. It was tall, had a skinny neck and long arms and fingers. It waved its hands back and forth and I immediately froze in terror. I started crying and I tried to wake my brother, but he wouldn't budge. All I can remember is wanting to run to my parents room, but I had this strong sense that there might be some of whatever this was inside the house too. So I was too scared to leave the room. I don't know what happened after. I have no sense of the morning after. But this has stuck with me through my entire life and I wish I could figure it out. I'm A longtime listener. I love your show. Thank you for listening to my story.

Thank you, Chris. Now, this sounds a bit like the infamous Alien Greys, or maybe the Pale Crawlers, or even though it's admittedly fictional, the Rake. But there might be another creature out there that better fits this description. A regional creature that most of us know little or nothing about. In fact, I just recently learned of these sightings myself. And to find them, we need to venture northeast, some 130 miles from Phoenix to the White Mountains of Arizona. The Apache Sitgreaves National Forest. The town of Heber, Arizona. The very same town abductee tramp Travis Walton called from after being released by what he believed to be alien abductors. Now hit up the show notes for that deep dive. But as for the town of Heber, those that spend time in the hills outside town tell tales of creatures hiding in the darkness. Creatures some call the Sitgreaves humanoids. Now the Earth. The earliest widely cited accounts date back to the late 1970s, when a pair of elk hunters from Heber reported seeing a man shaped figure step out from behind a ponderosa pine at dusk. The hunters estimated the figure to be over 7ft tall, extremely thin and moving with what they described as perfectly smooth strides. It walked upright, but with an unusual gait, its arms hanging unnaturally long. When the hunters shouted toward it, the figure moved its head, but the face had no distinguishable features. The figure vanished into the trees. And perhaps the most disturbing accounts come from drivers along Arizona Highway 260. Multiple motorists have reported seeing a tall, pale humanoid run across the road late at night, not in a staggered animal like movement, but in long, swift strides that covered distance far faster than any person could. One truck driver described it as a silhouette stretched tall, like someone pulled vertically. In one of the most detailed encounters, a group of friends camping near Willow Springs Lake in the early 2000 and tens reported waking to the sound of footsteps circling their tent. When one witness peeked out, he saw a tall figure standing between two trees, its body narrow and motionless except for slight head movements. The witness described the torso as too long, the limbs too thin, like someone who had never eaten a meal. And it seems like other parts of the Grand Canyon state are in play here as well. We managed to dig up a separate report submitted to Lon Strickler's Phantoms and Monsters that seems to detail the exact same entity. Here's a portion of that report. In 2015, I took a trip through northern Arizona and spent the night in my truck. I had the truck turned off with the windows down. There was a huge full moon in the sky behind me. I was looking at it in my outside rear view mirror. Then this being walked from my left to my right about four to six feet behind the tail of my truck. It stopped and looked at me. It was about 8ft tall, very skinny with long arms with the elbow lower than ours. With would be. The neck was about a foot long, pointing forward a bit oval head and what looked like a four foot tube extending from the jaw down forward almost like a very long beard. Coming to a point, the head turned back forward and it walked on. I waited a minute, then started the truck and took off. Now, like I said, I'd never heard of this creature until this week and I'm still a bit skeptical of it. There's just not a lot of info out there. But you can check out everything we found in tonight's show Notes do you think this legend holds any water? And if so, do you think it's possible that whatever this thing is, it made its way all the way down to Phoenix just to scare Chris the sick Greaves Humanoids. Sounds pretty awesome, so part of me hopes that it is true. But I think they're gonna need a better name if they plan on catching on. A big thanks Chris for sending us down this rabbit hole. I learned a little something this week and for that I thank you. The damn Rat.

okay, these next couple of stories are a little bit weird. Beginning with Haley's entry out of the state of Texas.
Haley from Texas
Hey Derek, this is Haley calling from Austin, Texas. I wanted to share a story about seeing a Sidekick Medium here in Austin. So I went to see a sidekick, and I walk in and she says to me, why do I see eyes filling up with blood? I had no idea my eyes were not full of blood. I couldn't connect that to anything. Whatever. So fast forward to the next morning. I wake up and my left eye is literally full of blood. So many blood vessels had busted in my eye. It was extremely scary. But, yeah, everything ended up being okay. But she did clock that, and I thought that was really crazy. So, definitely, I'm a believer. And yeah, I love the podcast so much. I'm a huge fan. I recommend it to literally everyone in the world. So, yeah, thank you. Have a great day.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Haley, for not only calling in, but for sharing the show as well. You have no idea how much that helps us. Now, for these bloody eyeballs, Hayley was kind enough to send in a few photos proving that she indeed did have bloody eyes on that day. Now, before we move on here, I can't help but think of the situation this way. Did the psychic predict that this was going to happen, or did they somehow make it happen? But it's fascinating either way, and we thank you again, Hayley, for making the call. And speaking of body parts, this next call also involves the human anatomy. Josh, let's hear what you've got.
Josh from Pennsylvania
Hi, monsters. This is Josh from Pennsylvania, or as the comment section likes to call me, the van guy. I had a therapy session that was kind of strange yesterday. I did an intake for this guy. Everything was normal. And he had a hole in his ear. But, like, it looked like a recent hole. It was about the size of, like, a pencil. Like, it looked like someone shot him with a nail gun or a.22, and it passed through his ear, and the skin around the hole was inflamed. And then Today, one day, 24 hours later, he came back for his individual session, and there was no hole in his ear. There is no way a hole in the corner, curving part of your ear could close up a hole big enough to slide a pencil through in 24 hours. I know it was there. I made a comment on it to another therapist right before he came in, because I could see my wall behind it, because my office is the only one that's painted ugly green. And I could see the hole and I could see the green wall behind it. And today there was no hole in his ear. And I can't explain it. Thanks.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Josh, for calling. Anne. Now, where have I heard about an ear miraculously healing on its own? Might have been in the news somewhere. But Josh's story reminds me of a segment I saw as a kid on the beloved television series Unsolved Mysteries. These scammers would pretend to do surgery on you using hidden blood packets and chicken parts to simulate removing tumors and growths without even breaking the scan. They called it psychic surgery. And I've linked to the actual segment that I'm talking about. I wonder how many of you will remember. The wife of the Husband Wife team was eventually busted, but I don't know that the husband was ever caught. It's my understanding that he fled to the Philippines. Now the Show Notes has all the information. It was a crazy story then and it remains a crazy story now, just like Josh's entry. So a big thanks Josh for sharing that story with us. We're glad you called in. And folks, that takes us to tonight's final entry from the hills and hollers of West Virginia. Please welcome Nate to tonight's program.
Josh from Pennsylvania
Hey Derek, my name is Nate was sitting here listening to season 20 episode 15 Joel's story about the lights that he would see on the mountain down in Mexico where he's from. I currently live in Wheeling, West Virginia, but I grew up in Braxton County, West Virginia, which is right in the middle of the state. You might know it for the Flatwoods monster. I remember when I was real young, me and my grandfather and my cousin and his girlfriend at the time were talking and grandpa mentioned something about a light would shoot up off of one of the ridges nearby. I was real young at the time, so I was just kind of listening and apparently this light would shoot up off this ridge and you could see it in the air. It would happen around like August, like every year. They would see it. Grandpa I believe told me it was like blue or green. But it's a really remote area. Unless you're right at the bottom of the mountain, you can't see it. So we decided we were going to go look for this light. And it was near what we call Jackson Cemetery, which is an old family cemetery, but the graves date back to probably early 1800s. There's no roads to it. You got to take four wheeler trail up to it. But we decided to go look for this light, see if we could find anything because it was in August. We rode four wheelers up there, drove around for a little bit. Obviously we didn't find anything in the middle of the day, but on our way back down we were flagged down by our neighborhood and said her husband had been missing all Day they lived way back in this holler. And so we're like, okay, we're going to go look for your husband and a friend of the family. And we looked and couldn't find him anywhere up in the woods. So ended up calling in a search team and everything. I was real young, so I got sent home to stay at grandma's house while everybody else was looking. And we were sitting there, dead of summer, all the doors, windows open, you know, old mountain house, no AC or anything. And we're sitting there real quiet and we start hearing music. And it wasn't playing from anywhere, it was coming from outside. There's no other houses close, the nearest neighbors 500 yards down the road. And it was my great grandparents house. So we know they weren't playing anything or anything. We didn't know where it was coming from. It was kind of. It reminded you of almost a classic music, like a Mozart or Bach or something like that. And then I was thinking about this a while back and I asked my grandmother, I mean, that's been 20 years ago, if not more, that he went missing. And they did find our neighbor. He unfortunately wrecked his four wheeler and passed away that day. But they did find him late that night after we heard this music and everything. But I asked my grandmother about it. She passed away just a few years ago. I said, do you still hear that music? And she said, yeah, I hear it all the time. And it's just something that's down in that holler. If you're real quiet during the summertime, you can almost hear music playing out of the mountains. If you want to look it up, it's Braxton County, West Virginia. And the road I grew up on is Plymouth Run Road, pronounced polemic, but it's off the Little Birch River. So if you want to look it up, that's where I grew up. It's in the middle of nowhere and it still does it to this day. If you're real quiet, you'll be able to hear this like almost classical music in the air. I don't know what it is. And I never did find out about the lights that my grandfather talked about. Thanks, Derek and love your show. Later.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Nate. Now this one has me excited, not only because Nate's talking about a West Virginia Holler story. Those are always good. But also because this particular story takes place in the exact spot where one of the world's most recognized monsters was first seen. The Green Monster, the Braxton County Monster, Braxy, the Phantom of Flatwoods. Or as most know it. As the Flatwoods Monster, whatever you call it. It's one of my favorite cryptid stories out there. And here to summarize it for us is the curator of the Flatwoods Monster Museum and friend of the show, Andrew Smith.
Andrew Smith
Happened on September 12, 1952, and that was in, you know, little town Flatwoods in Braxton County. There were several young boys playing football on the yard of a Flatwood school. It was about 7 o'.
Josh from Pennsylvania
Clock.
Andrew Smith
They noticed a fireball streak across the sky and as far as they could tell, land on a nearby hilltop. They went chasing after it to see, you know, what it might have been. As they get to the top of the hill, they see this glowing red ball, maybe you could call it a craft, you know, something. And then from the left, this large figure imposing, you know, kind of coming at them, appearing to float, of course, scared the daylights out of them. They turned around and ran back down the hill. And as that spread, you know, all over town, the word spread very quickly. So within the next couple weeks, it made several national headlines, made a couple national TV program programs. Some of the descriptions include, you know, a height description of about, you know, 10 to 12ft, a red face, eyes or eye like objects that seem to glow.
Derek Hayes
Now that clip courtesy of WCHS ABC News 8 out of Charleston, West Virginia. Now, this creature has been described many different ways. Some say it was made of metal. Some say it was howling and shooting off steam. But most of the witnesses that evening claimed it was mechanical rather than something biological, more machine than man or animal. Now, there are rumors that the military swept in soon after. The story gets a little convoluted there, but man, is it a fun one to explore. Now our friends over at Small Town Volume Monsters actually did a documentary on the subject nearly a decade ago now. And they actually got interviews with some of the witnesses who were there that night. Now, I've linked to that documentary along with everything else I've talked about here tonight. You guessed it in the show notes. But if you watch that documentary, you'll quickly realize that the group of boys and their mother weren't the only ones to have seen the strange entity. A few other run ins occurred all throughout that area around that time. So perhaps Nate's grandfather is one of those witnesses. Could it have been lights from the Flatwoods monster that he saw all those years ago? Well, I sure hope so, because as a huge fan of this case, I love the idea that there are still witnesses out there that we haven't yet heard from. Still details to add to this puzzle. So a huge thank you Nate for taking the time to reach out. Flatwoods, West Virginia seems like an amazing place to see a monster. And folks, that's all I have for you here this evening. I believe tonight's secret entry will really make you think. Please welcome Mark from the state of North Dakota.
Couple with Bird
Hi, Derek. This is Mark from North Dakota. I wanted to tell you about an experience I had. One night I dreamt that there were birds everywhere. I wake up and there were a lot of birds outside my window. The thing is, there have been birds outside my window before, and I never dreamt about them. So something was different about this. I leave my building with a bag of trash to throw into the dumpster. Just to let you know, there are two buildings that face each other. There's a courtyard in between them. Long story short, the dumpsters are back in the alley. But you can only get to those dumpsters if you go into the alley. So to get there, you have to cross the courtyard, go out the gate, cross the parking lot, and make this really sharp blind turn into the alley to kind of double back so that you can open up the fence to get into the dumpster. That alley is where I was headed. Anyway. I go out of my building, I'm walking across the courtyard. There are birds everywhere on the ground. And every single time that I've come upon a birds, they always fly away. These birds were not moving. They just were all sitting on the ground, not moving. And there were so many of them, I couldn't get through. They weren't moving. I mean, I tried. I tried to kind of. Okay, are you guys going? You know, I kind of moved forward a little bit more. They still weren't moving. They were not moving. They were all just sitting there. Not. They were not going to move for me. And I thought, okay, I'm just going to stand here and wait. So I stood there. It was probably 10 seconds, 20 seconds. I don't think it was more than 30. I just stood there and eventually the birds all kind of flew away. So then I was able to continue on. I went through the gate. I was on my way through the parking lot when this car goes through the alley, just barreling just so super fast, just right through the alley. If I had not stopped for those birds either, I would have been hit by that car. Or close to being hit. I would have been, I'm not sure. But those birds stopped me from being closer to that car. What makes it the dream? The dream that I had tells me that it's connected. Because there have been birds outside my window many times since then. I don't dream about them. It was only on that day, right before I woke up, that I was dreaming that there were birds everywhere. Even if I heard those birds, why would I dream that they're everywhere? You know, it lines up too much. Okay, thank you so much. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Mark, for calling. So what do you think here, folks? Some sort of intervention? Or were these simply stubborn birds? Whatever the explanation, we're glad that it happened. Mark, it certainly sounds like something was looking out for you. Thank you for the phone call. I've received a number of what I call rebuttals link lately, so I've compiled them and made preparations to dust off the old rebuttal segment here tonight. Now a quick friendly reminder. These aren't true rebuttals. Well, some of them are, but most of them are suggestions, similar anecdotes, additional information, anything extra that came after the main call. So sit back and enjoy the latest rebuttals and episode, beginning with this call from Morgan in the state of Idaho.
Carla from California
Hi, this is Morgan from Idaho and I'm calling with a rebuttal about black eyed adults that heard about a few times. I'm kind of concerned about this because I had a serious eye infection a few weeks ago and my eyes were kind of sunken back in my head and my brows were puffed out so that my eyes were in shadow. And when I looked in the mirror I saw a black eyed woman and you looked a second time and it was obvious that, you know, my eyes were normal. But if you're seeing someone,
