And welcome to Monsters Among Us. I am your guide, Derek Hayes. Hello gang and welcome back to the program. For some of you, it's only been a few days, but many others are making their way back after a long break from the program. Welcome back. And a few more of you are visiting for the very first time. No matter how you found the show or how long you've been tuning in, we're tickled pink that you can join us here tonight. Any wise choice on your part, because tonight's episode is chock full of spookiness, including human like creatures, brightly lit UFOs, and even a disappearing man or two. But it's with time slips that we begin here this evening. Please welcome Arrow from my state of California.
Arrow
Hey, Derek. This is Arrow from San Diego. So one morning I'm on my way to work. This is about a year and a half, two years ago. And where I work at my employer, it's located on a busy street. So in order to make my drive to work a little bit more pleasant, I would get off an exit early. Now getting off an exit early, you know, meant that I would come to my employer from the rear. But it also took me through a residential area. Now this residential area is, you know, made up of homes but also townhomes. So when I say townhomes, I mean like, you know, each structure had about two to three units in it. But, you know, they're double story. These townhomes, they're located like snug and flush with the sidewalk. So if you're on the sidewalk, you know, you're thinking maybe 10ft from the sidewalk to the front door, maybe less. That includes stairs up to the door. And on the side of the townhomes on structures that were located on a corner. The side of the buildings were pretty much flush with the sidewalk. You know, it was right on it.
Derek Hayes
So, you know, on the front of
Arrow
the townhome and on the side of the townhome there's not very much space. So I'm on my way to work one morning, started going through this residential area. Now coming up on this intersection and maybe about 40 yards away, coming in at about, you know, 20 miles an hour. Streets are kind of narrow. There's cars parked along the street on both sides. So as I'm coming up to this corner where these townhomes are, I notice to my left that there's a jogger, a gentleman who's running. So I make myself a mental note as I'm approaching. Okay, there's a jogger. Keep an eye out for this guy. I don't know where he's gonna go. I don't know if he's gonna cross in front of me, he's gonna continue straight or if he's gonna make a left. So as I'm coming up on the intersection, there's a large full size truck parked on the street. So as I'm approaching the intersection, the truck eventually comes between me and the runner. So it kind of eclipse me. The runner. I'm looking for this runner again, wondering is he going to cross in front of me? Where is he at? So I come up to the intersection and he's nowhere to be seen. I'm waiting for him, like, where'd this guy go? I don't see him again. These townhomes are flush to the sidewalk. So looking to my left, I don't see him anywhere. There's nowhere he can hide. Looking to my right, you know. Well, he's not to my right because I didn't see him cross in front of me. So I look up ahead and he's about 50 yards ahead, jogging. And I'm like thinking, how did he get up there so fast? That was quick. So I was in the military, I played football. You know, in football we run the 40 and you know, in the military we do a lot of jogging. This guy was like so far ahead. I had no idea how they got there so quickly. It's like they skipped from the moment I got to the truck, and it eclipsed him to the moment I got to the intersection. I mean, we're talking about five seconds. So as I, you know, pulled forward through the intersection and started catching up to the runner, I looked at him, I observed his clothing, and I verified, yeah, you know what? This is the guy I saw. You know, because he had red shorts and he had, like a light blue tank top, I was like, this is the guy that I saw. So, you know, I passed him up kind of, you know, wondering what could have happened. You know, I thought, well, could they have sprint? And, you know, by the time I got to the intersection, they were 40, 50 yards ahead of me. But, you know, I doubt that also because, like I said, you know, I played football. We used to do the 40 yard sprint. You know, I did a 40 in about 5.6 seconds. And I doubt this person, you know, made this sprint because when I pulled up, you know, they were just kind of at their regular jogging pace. You know, I didn't see them breathing hard or anything like that. So I call it the glitch in the matrix. You know, it wasn't a time slip because I didn't miss any time. Anyways, that's my story. Listen to the show for a long time. I'm a patron, part of the $4 club. So anyways, love the show. Thank you. You have a good night.
Derek Hayes
All right.

Derek Hayes
Bye.
Thank you, Arrow. Now, how many of you have tried this little trick? Let's say you're walking ahead of someone and you get the feeling that they're watching you. Then, as you turn a blind corner, you run full speed in an attempt to make it look like you've disappeared, or at the very least, made it look like you were moving incredibly fast. Now, this is something I did as a kid. Back then, I thought it was pretty funny. So maybe this mystery jogger did the exact same thing. But I don't think Arrow was buying that explanation, though. The runner was too fast, he said, and I think we need to believe him. Sure, it could have been some sort of time slip that could explain all of this. But given the age of San Diego, nearly 260 years old, founded all the way back in 1769, we have to at least leave the door open to the possibility that this could have been a ghost in jogging attire, no less. Either way, fun stuff, Arrow. That dude had to have gone somewhere. So thanks for getting us started here tonight, and thank you for the support and thanks for the phone Call. Alright gang, it's break time already, but I'll be right back with more mayhem right after this. And not just in twos and threes and fours.

Now speaking of disappearing men in California, I thought this next call was too similar to Arrows not to share here tonight. So please welcome Ian back to the program.
Hi Derek, My name's Ian. I've called a couple times. As I mentioned before, I see ghosts. I don't see them like six times. I see dead people. I see them once, twice a year, randomly. And it's been happening pretty much my whole life. I want to tell you about a time I was a teenager and I was working here in San Diego at a movie theater at Grossmont Center. Back then it was called Pacific Theaters and it was way smaller than it is now, a lot lower budget. It was Back when The movies were $8 each. And I think Blade and Armageddon were the headlines at the time. Anyway, I was working the theater and I was just a little kid who swept up and made it for everybody to clear out of the theater or checked during the movie to make sure everything was going okay. I walked into a movie on one of our largest theaters and I stood there to look at the screen and I'm standing in the back and it's by the handicap seats. And I was in the very back row, nobody behind me, and no way to exit because I was in a corner against the wall. I saw a man next to me, probably two feet from me, arms crossed, watching the movie. He stood there for a little bit. I continued to watch the movie. As I looked back, he was gone. He couldn't move, walked behind me, couldn't have walked in front of me. There was no way for him to exit. Later on that night, we as a staff kept having small, unexplainable occurrences happen. Fire alarm went off, back door went off. Just small little things that shouldn't have happened. The only way I can kind of correlate it is I saw whatever was causing these issues for the person. Really love the show. Appreciate you letting us have our platform to speak on and keep it up. Thanks, man.
Thank you, Ian. It's great to hear from you again. Now, like I said, this is a very similar story to what Arrow just told us, with two totally different explanations given. Arrow opting for the time slip angle, while Ian seems to be suggesting a ghostly apparition. Now, I suppose it's all in the setting and maybe in this case the clothing. Because if Ian saw a man in a jogging outfit run through that theater, I'm not so sure he would still assume it was a ghost. All that aside, it's a fun tale, Ian. And yet another tally in the haunted theater category. No shocker there. So thank you again sir for taking the time to share. And folks, if you have a story you would like to share here on the program, call the hotline at 888-6089. That's 888-608-NIGHT. Or you can record your story on your phone and email the file to me at monsters among us podcastmail.com now, just like with everything else, there are a few roles to submitting your call, so let me run them down real quick. We're waiting for your call and the truth is on the line. All right folks, back to the calls and coincidentally back to California. Please welcome Marge to the program.
Marge
Hey Derek, it's Mars calling from San Bernardino, California. This just occurred. It's 2-28-2025. I literally just saw this like 10 minutes ago. It's 8:55 right now. I was driving on my way to work on the southbound 215 freeway right before the university exit. There was 10 to 13 orange lights just in place in the sky right above the the southbound freeway. They were not moving, they were not floating down. There was no flickering. It's just this soft orange glow of 10 to 13 little lights. But yeah, thank you so much. I hope you guys have a great night. Bye.
Derek Hayes
We appreciate the entry March, and I especially appreciate it because it's from my neck of the woods, so to speak. The location she's talking about is less than 20 miles from here, straight down the mountain. And I'm racking my brain trying to think of some mundane explanation for these strange lights and I simply can't come up with anything. That area is not only heavily residential and commercial, but it's also in close proximity to some very fire prone areas. So I really don't think flares would be used in this area unless it was a genuine emergency. But what do I know? Now our researcher Delaney did cross reference this call with the National UFO Reporting center and found nothing matching this specific sighting. But she did find a few other reports from that area. In General Time Period 20 to 25 bright orange orbs were seen over nearby Riverside in September of 2013. Four red orbs were spotted in Colton above Riverside boulevard at about 6am early one February morning back in 2025. And in September of 2015 another sighting of what appeared to be about 30 flickering orange lights over the city of San Bernardino was reported. Now you can read each of these reports by visiting our show notes or by checking out this week's Monster Missive, a weekly newsletter breaking down and elaborating on all the topics we discussed that week put together by our very own Delaney Bowers and Connor Ryan. You can find it on any level over on Patreon. Now I'm actually in San Bernardino from time to time, so I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled. The Next time that I am. Big. Thanks, Marge, for bringing this strange activity to our attention. Thank you again for calling in. Now, gang, let's make it an even five calls from California. From the happiest place on Earth, or so they say. Please welcome Annie to tonight's program.
Annie
Hi, Derek.
So I live in Southern California, and being a local here, I have been to Disneyland many, many times. But this was about probably two years ago in the summer, and I was there with my family. We had just gone on the Jungle Cruise ride, which, if you've never been to Disneyland. The Jungle Cruise is a boat ride where you have maybe 25 people on a big boat. And you're kind of on this, like, river, and you're going through and looking at what's on either side of the river. There's foliage, there's animatronics. It's pretty fun ride. And we were just pulling up at the end, and they were helping everybody off onto the sort of dock area. And as we were walking out, I could see over to the left there was a group of maybe three or four Disneyland employees. And they all were talking very seriously about something. One of them looked pretty shaken up. And, of course, being a very curious person, I could not stop myself from walking over and saying, you know, oh, my gosh, what's going on, you guys? Okay? And the employee who was the most shaken up proceeded to tell me that, you know, they were just standing there watching everybody get off the boats at the end of the ride. And a little girl came running from out of nowhere, from that employee's left. So basically from deeper into the park, ran across that dock area, ran across the water and into the foliage on the other side of the river. And this employee kept holding out, you know, his hand. He's like, I'm. I'm shaking. I'm shaking. I've never seen anything like that. And I felt really lucky to have witnessed the aftermath of what was apparently a sighting of a little girl ghost running over the water on the Jungle Cruise. So I love the show. I've been listening for maybe about a year now. I've never really heard a Disneyland story before. But anyway, love the show and love what you do. Thank you.
Brittany
Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Annie. We appreciate you sharing. Now, talk about being in the right place at the right time. The only way this timing could have been any better is if she was there to see the ghost herself. Now, before it was Disneyland, much of that area consisted of citrus groves, acres and acres of orange trees. So perhaps the young girl was from that era, and she existed long before the park and rides were constructed, including the Lazy river style waterway that makes up the Jungle Cruise ride. But then again, the park is full of gruesome deaths and ghostly rumors. The lady in White on Main street, the spirit of a man that was struck and killed by the monorail, the spirit of Dolly, the Matterhorn Ghost. And of course, a ghost we discussed back on season 18, episode three, the Haunting of one of my favorite rides there at the park, Big Thunder Mountain. In fact, I think one could produce an entire episode on the park and its darker side. But that's an installment for another time. The point is, given all these examples, that Ghost Girl could have come from anywhere. Now, I don't have plans on visiting Disneyland again anytime soon, but the next time I do, you better believe I'll be watching for the Ghost Girl of the Jungle Cruise ride. A big thanks to Annie for calling in and sharing such a rare perspective from inside the park. Plenty of time down the road to talk about it now. Have you ever stopped to wonder just

Now for this next entry, we must travel great distances all the way to Morocco. Please welcome Mohammed to tonight's show.
Mohammed
Hello Derek. My name is Muhammad. I'm from Casablanca in Morocco, Northern Africa. I had kind of an encounter with a UFO back, I guess in 2005, 2006, I was like 10 years old or 11 years old back then and I was so interested in all things space. I remember I went up to our roof and I laid there under the night sky and I was just looking at the stars and I guess it was a full moon. And I noticed that there was this particular star that was a little bit brighter than the rest. So I kept looking at it and out of the blue it started moving. At the beginning it was moving slowly and it was going in a perfect straight line. It was not like zipping around and stuff. It wasn't like wobbling around. And after maybe like five seconds or six seconds of moving slowly, just kind of zipped in a straight line out of my sight. Basically. I think it was a UFO because the speed was consistent. It was going slowly in a straight line, then it zipped in the same straight line. And when I say zipped, I mean it was basically gone in maybe like one second or two seconds. It was just out. It wasn't moving around. It was normal star light in terms of color. So I think if it was a plane or something, you can tell by the red and green light on its wings. But this one was just regular star, slightly brighter, moved than zipped out of the sky. So that's my story. I would like to thank you for your podcast. I have been a big fan of yours since I guess, a few years. Yeah, thanks.
Derek Hayes
Thank you Mohammed for the long distance entry. Well, whatever it was, Mohammed wasn't the only one to see an object like that. Over Casablanca, Delaney found a report on New Fork that describes nearly the exact same thing. An experience that also began as a stargazing session. The following is directly from the New Fork report. I was stargazing on my roof in Morocco when I saw what looked like a star. But it didn't look like it was moving like other stars. So I kept watching it until it stopped moving, emitted a light and then went northwest quickly. Number Rocco in the city of Casablanca have a long history with these strange airborne anomalies. In 1952, residents endured a near invasion when over two weeks, dozens if not hundreds of strange craft were witnessed by residents. Here's a summary of some of the sightings that were reported from that two week stint back in July of 1952. July 3, 1952. Fast moving, flat tapered object emitting blue and red flames over Dakar, July 12, 1952. Two flying saucers witnessed by two policemen moving fast, tapered, followed by A trail of light near Mecca Bel Kassiri. Several eyewitnesses report a yellow flying disk moving rapidly from east to west. July 13, 1952. Fast moving blue green ball shaped objects followed by a trail of white light melts into the sky. Forty witnesses report a luminous flying object over the skies of Casablanca. Two eyewitnesses report seeing three white fires in the sky. And on July 14, 1952, a husband and wife report seeing a flying object for 30 seconds over ifran. Now, Morocco might be one of those unassuming hotspots, places that have a ton of activity but most don't know about it because either the people there are tight lipped and they simply don't share their encounters, or the government discourages or outright censors the reports. Sometimes it's both. But from the sounds of things, either activity is picking up there or the subject is slowly becoming less taboo. Whichever it is, I hope the reports keep coming in. Thank you again Mohammed for calling in and thanks for keeping your eyes on the skies. Well folks, this next one might be a UFO of a completely different kind. Please welcome Anonymous out of parts unknown.
Advertiser 1
Hey Derek, I want to go ahead and just stay anonymous. I had a story I wanted to share with you. This was back in I think about 2019. I was living in California at the time and we had driven to Oregon to visit my wife's mother in law. It was down in Medford and my wife doesn't get to see her mom too often so our last day there she wanted her mom to stay in the hotel with us. That way they could just spend as much time together as possible. It wasn't anything fancy, it was just a regular hotel. But my wife and my mother in law slept on the bed and I slept on the pull out couch. And when it was time for bed we shut off all the lights and everything and I usually have trouble falling asleep so I usually watch YouTube and eventually just doze off. So I was laying there watching YouTube, suddenly something caught my eye on the the ceiling and I look up and the entire ceiling is like twinkling like kind of like little stars I guess all over the ceiling. The best way I could describe it is like you know how like a disco ball spins and it makes those lights? It kind of looked like that except the lights were smaller, they were like stationary and they were like kind of like coming in and out like sparkling on their own and then like kind of spinning in a way and it was like all over the ceiling. I had initially thought it was like the Reflection from a car driving by, or maybe somebody's headlight shining through the window as they're pulling in. But this just looked weird. It looked different. As I'm laying there looking at these lights, wondering what the heck, all of a sudden my wife just starts screaming at the top of her lungs. We all jump out of bed, we turn on the lights. I'm like, what? What's going on? What's going on? And she's like, there was a man standing next to my bed. And I was like, what? I was like, I was awake the whole time, but I didn't see anything. She's like, yeah, I opened my eyes and there was a man all in black. I could just see a silhouette. He was just standing by my bed. So we just thought that was really weird. I didn't tell everybody that I had seen the lights or anything because I didn't want to freak her out. I told her later on, but I didn't tell her right then and there. So that was pretty weird. But I kind of have like a belief that some people have certain auras or energy around them. Sometimes it's dark, you know, sometimes it's good. This is also why I want to stay anonymous, because I firmly believe that my mother in law, you know, I could just sense like a darkness around her. And she's struggling with a lot of things and, you know, I don't know, I've just. I feel like I've always been kind of good at sensing that. So I don't know if she had something with her that she brought with her or maybe it was just a hotel that was haunted, but I'm not sure. Yeah, I just wanted to share that experience with you. Thanks for everything you do, Derek.
Derek Hayes
Appreciate it. We appreciate the entry, caller. You know, there is some fungus out there that glows. Bioluminescence, they call it. There are over 100 known species worldwide that have the ability to emit their own light. So perhaps one of these species found itself growing on the ceiling of this particular hotel. The Pacific Northwest is a very damp area after all. But that does little to explain away the ghostly old man or caller's wife also saw in the room. As far as I know, mushrooms can't conjure up the dead, but it's wild, whatever it was, caller, and we appreciate you taking the time to share it here with us. Now, switching gears here a bit, let's venture to the woods of East Texas. Please welcome Gina from the Lone Star State.
Advertiser 3
Hi, my name is Gina from East Texas. I'm Calling in today because I've heard multiple encounters of people talking about these hooded cloaked figures that are seemingly friendly or just not evil. They almost get a comforted feeling from these things. I kind of have a similar story. When I was a little kid, I lived in a heavily wooded neighborhood down by the San Jacinto River. My room faced the backyard, which faced across the street. It was just woods basically. And we lived on one acre and our house sat smack in the middle of it. And so about half an acre to the road, I guess. And then across the road there was woods. Well, anytime if I was upset with my brother or sister or if I got in trouble by my parents and I got sent to my room, these hooded cloaked figures would be there. I only saw them during the daytime. It was too black and dark at night to see that far across the street into the woods, which I did not have any curtains or blinds on my window. But during the daytime, if I went in there and I was feeling lonely or depressed about being in trouble, whatever, I would get my little toys, usually little action figures of some sort of. And these cloaked hooded figures, all black, no defining features whatsoever, would show up in the woods across the street from my house. Now I was very young, this probably happened for many years. So I was probably 5, 6, 7. And it's like they didn't always show up in the same numbers. Very rarely would I get a single one by itself. Usually there were two or three, never more than three. They wouldn't move, they would just stand there just inside the tree line. Just enough for me to be able to see them. And they would mind speak to me. I didn't hear words. It was more like just a comforted feeling I would get. And even though I was a little kid and there's these massive, huge hooded black figures in the tree line across the street from my house that was mind speaking to me. I was completely not freaked out. I was very comforted and I was always so happy they were there because I felt like I wasn't alone. And I would play in my window sill so that they can watch me play. And they would tell me things like, it's okay, you're not by yourself, you're not alone, we care about you, we want to play. It was always very non harmful. They were always very sweet and comforting. But yeah, I just always thought that that was maybe a figment of my imagination and maybe it was. But the memories of these things are still very, very vivid in my mind. I didn't have anything like that happen to me, like after we moved out of that area. So I don't know what to make of it, you know, but hopefully it helps somebody. Anyway, keep it spooky. Thanks.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Gina. You know, there's something extra creepy about the fact that they were overly friendly. Almost like they were trying to bait you out of the house with positivity. Or maybe I'm just being cynical. Now, in our research, we did discover that there was an active cult in that area at roughly the same time period. The Christ family, they called themselves. And allegedly this cult was deadly with at least two homicides connected to the group. But the members of the Christ family wore distinctive white robes, not the dark robes that our color talked about, leading us to believe that they're probably is no connection here. But aside from that, we really are out of guesses. But perhaps someone out there listening has some insight. And if you do, don't forget you can reach us 247365 by calling 888-6089. Thank you again Gina for making the call. Alright gang, let's sneak in another quick break. But when I return, ghost stories don't move a muscle. I'll be right back.

Now, as promised, I have a couple of ghost stories to share with you. Beginning with this entry from Sean in parts unknown.
Sean
Hey Derek, this is Sean. I had another story in Bangor, Michigan. This is another one. Kalamazoo, Michigan. Specifically on Gull Road you have the Borges Hospital complex. It has a bunch of buildings and all that. I used to work cleaning that building and it would be from about five or six to 10. It was December 2019, right before, you know, Covid and all that. Me and a few of the people would go around to all the medical offices in this building. Exam rooms, waiting rooms, offices, all that. This is December at night after office hours in a contained like unit of this office on the second floor of a medical building where most of the people have gone home. And we've gone through each and every room to vacuum, take the trash and wipe stuff down. Me and the other two guys, we were chit chatting it up behind the receptionist desk in one of these offices. So to my right is the door into the hall out of this unit. Behind me is a bunch of offices and small hallways. We are chit chatting and we hear a voice say, hey. We assume that somebody's working light because
Derek Hayes
it would happen, right?
Sean
A few people here and there work late, like, oh, we must have missed this trash can or something. Guy goes back, go, you know, pick up his trash can. Me and the other guy keep chit chatting, right? And a moment later he comes back, he's like, hey, you guys heard somebody say hey a minute ago, right? I'm like, yeah, there was nobody there. If somebody was outside, it was a brick wall. We're not going to hear somebody from outside on the ground. You know, through multiple layers of walls and rooms and all that stuff. Well, that's my story. Thank you. Love the show. Alright, bye bye.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Sean. Well, just like with theaters, I have zero shock that something like this would occur within the confines of a medical facility. Of course I did. Now, Borges Hospital was established in 1889, so some of these buildings have been around for a good long while. Long enough to accumulate a ghost or two, I would suspect. And if the rumors there are true, it's exactly the case, because workers tell of ghostly nuns that roam the grounds, likely The Sisters of St. Joseph's who staffed the hospital when it first opened back in the late 19th century. Other activity has also been reported there. And given the fact that Sean was not alone when he had his sighting, I'd say that bodes well for this experience. But amazing stuff. Shawn, we thank you again for ringing in.

Hi, my name is Rob. I currently live in Springfield, Missouri. But this story has to do with the house that I lived in in Fresno, California for most of my life. When I was four years old, my mom met my stepfather and they got married and he bought a house for us. It was a three bedroom, two bath house with a swimming pool and it was located on Pico street in Fresno. Of course we were excited to move in there, but within the first week or two, I started having horrible night terrors. I remember waking up screaming and crying in the middle of the night. And remember, I was 4, my mom would rush in and say, what's wrong? What's wrong? The only thing I could come up with was, I don't know. Well, this went on nearly every night, and since my stepfather had to get up at 4 in the morning for work, it began to cause tension. However, it wasn't long after that before every member in my family started having night terrors. My brother, my stepfather, and my mother. I remember waking up in the middle of the night hearing the most ungodly, almost demonic moans and groans coming from one of them and the hair standing up on my arms and the back of my neck. I'll never forget that My mom and my stepdad's relationship began to deteriorate rather quickly after moving in the house. And my stepfather became very angry and bitter and abusive. And I think that the negative energy he put out actually fed whatever was in that house. Now, wasn't long before it was separated and he left. It was actually, I was in high school, so it was a fair amount of time. When I was in high school, I had a good friend, my very best friend, his name was David. And David and I'd go out and do what, you know, high school guys like to do in the summertime. We would stay out way later than my mom would be happy about. So we told her we wanted to sleep on a Chase lounge just next to the pool, you know, to sleep under the stars, you know, give us an excuse for being out there. Well, one night I'll never forget, ever, we were laying there in the chaise lounges and I was laying on my back with my arms above my head and I remember feeling something very soft and silky, almost like satin between my fingers. And I was rubbing my fingers in with my thumb showing this material. And I felt a human hand or something. I had touched my hand. Well, I jerked it away and I spun around and I won't swear, but I said, f you, David. And he was laying on his side with his back to me and he turned his sleepy looking face to me and said what? I said, you effing touched me. And he said, no, I didn't. And I said something did. Well, at that point we didn't care what time my mom knew we came in and we both went in the house. I grabbed the couch and living room and let him have my bedroom because I felt bad. Well, it wasn't five minutes before I was in there. I didn't want to be alone. So when I opened the door, he laughed and said, I need to be in here. Well, anyway, let's fast forward a little bit after that. David and I had come up from school one day and David had gone to my bedroom. He said he was tired, wanted to lay down for a little bit. Well, I was talking to my mom in the kitchen. And then about 45 minutes or an hour later, David came down the hallway into the kitchen and he said, he's that girl. And I looked at him, I said, what girl? And he said, she touched me. I looked at my mom and my mom said, he sounds sleep well. At that point, David turned around, went back down the long hallway to my bedroom and I talked to my mom for a minute and I followed him. And sure enough, he was sound asleep on the bed. But that was weird because the feeling I got was someone touching me was distinctly female. Let's fast forward a little further. I had just a friend that was a girl. Her name was Crispy. She came over in the summertime as well. And she watched old TV shows on cable with me. Well, when she had gone to use the bathroom and suddenly I heard a shriek and she came running out of the bathroom with her underwear still around her ankles. She said, rob, there is somebody walking between the houses. Okay. I had experienced hearing somebody between the houses too, because summertime, the bathroom, when it was open, I grabbed a mag light and dashed out in front to look between the houses. There was nobody there. I checked the bushes in my yard, in the neighbor's yard. Nothing. There was no one running down the street. Now, my mom, she gifted me the house as part of her will. She wanted to give it to me right away. So my wife and I moved in the house. Her name was Kim. She was My high school sweetheart. It wasn't long after that before my wife Kim would wake me up middle of the night. She was having night terrors as well, telling me somebody was pounding on the bedroom window. Of course there was nobody there. There was no way they could have gotten in the backyard. My wife and I, Kim, we loved Halloween almost as much as Christmas. And we decorated the house like crazy for Halloween. We had a long hallway and we would decorate the hallway with Halloween decorations. We called it our hallway of horror. In the 90s there was something called fright frames. They were plastic, looked like picture frames with a Halloween themed three dimensional figure in the middle. Usually a pirate or a skeleton or a ghost. Well, they had motion sensors in the front and when you walk past them, their eyes would light up with red and they would start laughing like a very cartoony laugh. Well, it started to the point where they were going off all the time in the middle of the night. So we figured there was something wrong with them. So we took the batteries out. They continue to go off, but now it was a different laugh. It was the deepest, most horrifying, demonic, the only thing I could think of laugh I'd ever heard at that point. We took every Halloween decoration we had out of the house and put them in the garbage. Every one of them. I wouldn't allow even a happy Jack o' Lantern face in the house after that. Okay. Eventually I had retired from cardiology and moved to Branson, Missouri. Well, one night my brother had come over. He was visiting, we were talking, reconnecting. Hadn't seen him in 15 years. And of course the conversation turned the Pico house. And I don't know what led up to this statement, but he said, boy, something was sure beaten on that closet door trying to get out. And when he said that, the blood rushed in my head and I nearly fainted for the first time in my life because a memory came back of myself. My brother. And I was probably 8. My brother was 10. My stepfather and my mother standing in the short hallway that went to their bedroom. There was a double door linen closet and something was beating from the inside, trying to get out. I remember the doors which were latched together in the middle were bowing outwards. It was horrifying. It was a memory I had suppressed my whole life and never thought of again. I guess it was too terrifying for an eight year old mind. I ended up selling the house. I've tracked it online and there have been no less than five owners in 10 years, so that's a little odd. But thank you for letting me tell my story. Thank you.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Rob. The night terrors, the touching, whatever it was, it was certainly consistent. The spooky laugh was a bit of an overkill though. I think we could have done without that. But the fact that something was beating on the closet doors from inside, that's some nightmare inducing imagery. And I'm glad whatever it was, it didn't follow you and your brother, Rob, because the only thing worse than activity like that is not being able to run from it. Gnarly stuff, Rob, and we love it. Thank you again for making the call. Alright, gang, that takes us to tonight's final entry. And this one comes to us out of the state of New York, but it doesn't take place there. Please welcome Daniela to the program.
Annie
Hi, Derek, my name is Daniella and I'm calling from New York City. I'm calling about something my dad told me last summer. I was telling him about a horror movie I had just watched that I enjoyed called the Frogman, which reminded him of something his friend told him years ago. My dad grew up in Mexico City, and one of his longtime friends from there, Carlos told him this story of his experience with a cryptid. Carlos was a bit of a nomad, and in the early 70s he found himself living in Tulum, Mexico. Before Tulum was commercialized into the resort destination it is today, it was a tranquil, remote fishing village. So in the 1970s it was a relatively secluded and undeveloped coastal jungle. Carlos had been renting a room in a small, kind of shabby hotel while he was living there. One night when he was sleeping in his room, he was awoken by some sort of loud sound, possibly a knock on the door or some kind of banging. He opened the door to find standing on his doorstep a creature. Kind of a swampy creature. It was bipedal and the size of him, if not a little larger. It looked kind of like a frog or a fish. My dad can't quite remember which of the two, his friend said, but he remembers it was a swampy creature, wet and slimy, and its skin was scaly. It just sort of stood there, but Carlos got the feeling that it wanted to come inside. Carlos, understandably frightened, slammed the door and locked it. He got back into bed in shock and didn't sleep the rest of the night. He could hear it walking around outside, but eventually it went away. My dad enjoys paranormal stories, but is definitely a skeptic. He's not sure he believes his friend, but I asked my dad if Carlos was one to make stories up and my dad said he was not. He said Carlos was serious while telling this story and definitely believed what he experienced was real. I've tried searching online for any stories or legends of creatures like this in that area, but I didn't really find anything that fits the description. I haven't been able to stop thinking about this since my dad told me, so I'd love to know if anyone else has heard of something similar. I love the show and just want to say thank you for all of your hard work work and I can't wait for more stories. Thank you.
Derek Hayes
You're welcome Daniella and thank you for calling in. Now I've linked to the frogman film in question over in the show notes. Now from what I understand, this film is loosely based on the Loveland Frogman of Ohio. I admit I haven't watched it yet, but as for the entity that Carlos saw, let's begin with the location. Tulum is the largest municipality in the state of Quinta Nara, not too far from Cancun and is located within the Yucatan Peninsula, which was the heart of the Mayan civilization. Tulum was one of the last cities built by the Mayans and it's home to a number of archaeological sites. Now the Mayan had many deities, but one in particular is very reminiscent of what Carlos reported seeing a Mayan God named Chaac. Chaac is the name of the Maya God of rain, thunder and lightning. With his lightning axe, Chaac strikes the clouds causing them to produce thunder and rain. Now the ceremonies associated with this God require four boys, one for each cardinal point, to act and chant like frogs. Chaac is usually depicted with a human body showing reptilian or amphibian scales and with a non human head, fanged teeth and a long pendulous nose. But what are the chances that Carlos saw an ancient Mayan God on his doorstep? Well, if he did, he might not have been the only one because 600 miles away in the town of San Luis Potosi, another encounter was reported that we couldn't help but find familiar. On February 12, 1965 while slingshot hunting adjacent to the Santiago River, a 19 year old by the name of Francisco Asco Estrada Acosta had a face to face encounter with an entity that resembled the rain God deity. It was a tall figure with a large oval shaped head, huge reddish phosphorescent eyes and a large toad like mouth. The flabbergasted Acosta could only stare in what one must assume was abject terror as the bizarre being extended its flipper like hand toward him. Touching his hand, the youthful hunter would later recall the sensation of the thing's flesh as being cold and scaly, not unlike that of a reptile. The creature then flew away to the heavens. Now it's up to you whether or not you think a frog like cryptid creature such as this could either travel 600 miles through Mexican rainforest or be so widespread throughout the area that encounters occur at such distances. But I'd be lying if I said the two reports didn't sound eerily comparable. I'd never heard of this cryptid before, but I gotta tell you, my interest is piqued, especially as someone that grew up in the shadow of the American version. The aforementioned Loveland Frogman Incredible stuff, Daniela, and we can't thank you enough for not only preserving Carlos's story, but for turning us on to a brand new cryptid in the process. Thank you again for the call and that's it, folks. At least for the most part. But I urge you to stick around around because believe it or not, there's more upcoming. arrested and less punched. All right, tonight's secret entry comes to us from the Tar Heel State. Derek, the mic is all yours.
This is Derek from Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, and this is a big black cat story. This is about 2007. I was going hunting on my grandfather's property. Walked out quiet as I could, you know, try not to scare the deer. I heard something rustling, so I looked to my left and I just saw a black cat running. The thing that stuck out the most was how long the tail was on it. I've never seen a cat with a tail that long. You know, I mean, we're in North America, you know, the Matt lion maybe. But from where I'm from, we don't have those bobcats, if anything. So it really stood out to me how long that black tail was. And I came back and I told my grandfather about it and he told me there's no such thing as a black panther. And that really stuck with me. But I knew what I saw and I. I just wanted call and tell you, Derek and I thank you for what you're doing for all of us.

Hi Derek, My name is Brittany and I live in Oakhurst, California just outside of Yosemite national park, and I have a story for you that is from several years ago. I only just found your podcast this year and I don't know which episode it was, but someone had described something that made me look at a situation that happened to me in a very different light and actually spooked me all over again for different reasons. So this was during COVID times, I think probably 2021. I was living in Mariposa, California and I was driving from Oakhurst to Mariposa and there's this stretch of highway called Highway 49 and there's two little towns that you pass, Ahnee and Nipinawassee. And as you do this you're kind of slowly going up and then you go through Big Canyon, then you're in Mariposa. Well, as I was driving on this straightaway towards the apex of the ridgeline before you start dropping down the hill in what we call Ponderosa Basin. From behind me at the time it
