And tonight we're going to field a

number of stories from Massachusetts. So sit back, crank up the volume, and let's let Matt get things started.
Matt
Hi there, my name is Matt and I'm calling from Massachusetts. Calling to tell you about something that happened to my cousin about 20 years ago. She and her husband had been married for about a year and were living in a House that was only about 2 years old. So not a house with a scary haunted history or anything. So my cousin and her husband had been out for the evening and got home pretty late. They unlocked the door, went into the house, and that's when they noticed that a metal folding chair, just like your basic metal folding chair that had been stored in the cellar was now upstairs and set up in the middle of the living room. They both thought it was weird and started trying to figure it out. Neither of them had done it themselves, and all the windows and doors were still closed and locked, so it didn't seem like anyone had broken in or anything. The only other people who had keys to the house were both sets of their parents. So they were actually so freaked out that they called in the middle of the night to find out if anyone had come to the house and set up a chair for some reason. Nope. Her mom said no, and so did his parents. After talking about it for a few minutes, my cousin just said, well, it's freaking me out. Can you just put it away? So her husband walked over and grabbed the chair by the backrest so we could close it. He tipped the chair forward, and that's when they realized that the seat of the chair, like where it's sort of a depression for a person to sit down, was full of water. They hadn't noticed it before because it was totally still, but when he grabbed the chair, the water spilled out onto the floor. This was super weird because there wasn't a leak or a stain on the ceiling above the chair. The whole thing was just weird and kind of creepy. But there wasn't really anything they could do. So they just put the chair away and went to bed. To this day, they still don't know how the whole thing happened. It might seem anticlimactic. Like, my friends who I've told the story to are like, dude, it's just a chair. And it's like, yeah, I know. But any explanation for what happened is, in my mind, pretty creepy, and I'd love to hear what you think. Anyways, thanks for all the work you put into the show. I love listening to everybody's stories. Keep it spooky. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Matt. Super creepy. And I can think of two scenarios that could explain this one. Something paranormal taking place. A damp ghost, perhaps. Or in my mind, something more terrifying. Some living human being put that chair there. A human being that shouldn't have been there in the first place. Which also begs the question, what exactly was that mystery liquid? It's a great Story, Matt, and the perfect way to kick things off here this evening. So a big thanks for taking the time to share. No, gang, I have a ton to get through here tonight, so let's sneak in one more before we take our first break. So. Uncle Z, are you there?
Uncle Z
How's it going? This is Uncle Z. I'm from a small town in northeast Massachusetts called Tewksbury. Growing up there as a kid, you know, I had a big sweeping backyard that poured into the Shawsheen River. And there's a few artifacts I had dug up, few arrowheads from Native Americans and an old well and an old fieldstone foundation with a root cellar. So clearly there was some activity. And it was rumored there was actually a battle that took place in the backyard between the early settlers and the Native Americans. And, you know, perhaps there was some bloodshed there. Hard to say. But When I was 19 years old, the summer of 09, it was about 6:36, 45pm Nice warm night, you know, the sun setting off into the horizon, nice golden hue. Laying down on my bed, reading this book, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. And I had just finished a chapter. Placed the book open on my chest and was reflecting on it. I'd shut my eyes, but I was not asleep, as far as I can tell, to the best of my awareness. And what happened shortly after that was a sense of dread, terror, and fear. Very overwhelming, all encompassing, accompanied by a vision of a malicious red face. I opened my eyes at that point, just complete terror like I'd never experienced before. Realized I couldn't move my body. Next thing I know, my arms fly out to the side, so I'm in a crucifix position, lying down again, trying to move. Just cannot move at all. No control over my body. Next thing that happens is I sit abruptly upright in a uncomfortably torqued erect position, and the book that was spread open on my chest, face down, flew off, hit the wall in front of me, and I was raised up off the bed, my butt. So the only thing on the bed were my heels. And again, just scared to death. And everything was in slow motion as if a bomb had went off. Sort of like in the movies when everything slows way down and there's sort of that white noise. And that all lasted, I would estimate, probably 15 to 20 seconds, but it felt like a lot longer than that. And once it stopped, the fear dropped. I fell back to the bed. I could move. It just all stopped at once. And I immediately sprinted out of the house and didn't return for three or four days when it stayed at a friend's house. So whatever that immaterial entity was that took control of my body. Hard to say. Some might try to label this as sleep paralysis, but add in the moving factors, that hypothesis seems to be disqualified. So make of it what you will. That's the story. Uncle Z. Over and out.
Derek Hayes
Thank you Uncle Z. What an amazing series of events if that is indeed how it all went down, because it sort of sounds like a possession of some sort of not that I'm an expert in that field or anything, but I've seen enough movies to get the general idea. Now, for your sake, Uncle Z, I hope this was sleep paralysis of some sort. And if it wasn't, I at least hope that it was a one off occurrence. Either way, we thank you for sharing your heart thumping experience. Now folks, I'll be right back with more stories right after this.

David
Hello Derek. My name is David and I'm from the Boston area. Back in 2007, I feel I might have discovered a possible reincarnation connection to the Boston Red Sox. Growing up with a dad who was a die hard Red Sox fan, I pretty much became one too at a very young age. I never felt like I could have been reincarnated until I was watching a DVD about the history of the fans of the Red Sox Nation. In one of the opening clips, it shows a group of fans in the stands from over 100 years ago. A young man in his early 20s notices the camera and turns to wave right at it. Oh my God. Whoever this person was, he looks exactly like me at that age. Not only does he look like me, his body language is spot on. I showed this 5 second clip to many of my friends without bringing up the subject and all of them instantly notice it too. I truly have always felt very at home whenever I would go to Fenway Park. Maybe this is the reason why I always knew I was part of Red Sox Nation. Now I feel I belong to Red Sox reincarnation. It's one thing to see an old photo of someone who looks just like you, but seeing yourself in an actual film clip takes it to a whole other level. It would be great to hear if anyone out there has ever seen themselves in a similar fashion. Thanks Derek for everything you do. Monsters Among Us rocks.
Derek Hayes
Thank you as always David. Now, I can't speak to the accuracy of David's claim, but I will say it's refreshing to hear a reincarnation story in which the past life wasn't someone famous, infamous, or maybe even both. Because really, how many people can currently be the reincarnation of Cleopatra? The fact that the gentleman in the video was just a no named random fan, well that somehow helps ground this story. Now it is worth mentioning that Massachusetts is a sports state as David mentioned, so it's only fitting that we tie in one of the home teams into tonight's program. A big thanks David for the call. It's always great hearing from you folks.

PodcastMail.com operators are standing by now. Speaking of standing by, our next submitter is standing by as well. Julia, it's your time to shine.
Julia
Hi, Derek, this is Julia calling from Massachusetts. So this took place when I was around five or six years old. It was Easter morning. I had just woken up. My mom put an Easter balloon in my bedroom as like a surprise for when I woke up. And we were in the living room sitting on the day bed that was being used as her bed at the time because we lived in a one bedroom apartment. And she gave me the bedroom. So the way the room was set up, there was my bedroom door, and then between the daybed and my bedroom door, there was a chest that we were using as a table. So we were both sitting on her bed, which we also used as a couch. And we were just going through some like, Easter morning treats and talking. And then all of a sudden, the balloon that she had given me, which, by the way, I will say had a big weight on the bottom. You know, those weights that are kind of like solid and they're wrapped up in like foil just to make them look a little prettier, but they're nice and heavy. It had one of those on the bottom. So all of a sudden, out of my bedroom door comes the balloon and it's floating up off the ground. The weight itself is probably 5 or 6 inches up off the ground and. And it is floating through the door towards us. And it comes right out, pauses, takes a left, like a 90 degree turn, basically. It comes along the edge of the chest in between us and the bedroom door, stops again, comes forward to come around the other corner, stops again, and then takes a right. So right now it's coming between the chest and the, the bed, so right in front of us and then it just stops right in front of me and plops down kind of like with a thud right in front of me. And we didn't say anything this whole time. We just stopped what we were doing and just stared at this happening. It was slow, but it happened in probably less than a minute. And we were both just flabbergasted. I mean, looking back as an adult now, I think she did a great job because I would not have kept it as cool as she did, but she was basically like, oh, somebody brought you a gift. Somebody wants to say Happy Easter. At the time we said it was my Aunt Jennifer who passed away when she was very young. My middle name was actually after her. So we said, oh, it's Jennifer trying to wish you Happy Easter. But it was pretty creepy. We talk about it from time to time still. And just to say like, hey, you remember that? That actually happened.
David
Right.
Julia
But again, I mean, like, there's no reason it should have been floating through the room. I couldn't tell. It didn't look like it was being held up by anything in the middle of the string. It just was floating with the weight suspended off the ground beneath it. Anyway, thanks so much for what you do. I love your show. I listen to it all the time. And thanks for taking all of our calls. I appreciate it. Have a good one. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Julia. You know, this isn't the first oddly behaving balloon to grace this program. In fact, this topic has come up a number of times over the years. Paranormal or just plain weird? We thank you, Julia, for sharing your experience here tonight and adding to our long list of unusually behaving balloons. All right, folks, next up is an entry from Josh, who's actually calling in from the state of Maine. Please welcome him to the program.
Josh
Hey, my name is Josh, currently living in Maine, but this story happened in Massachusetts in a little town called Whitman. A little backstory. My house I used to live in was a funeral home way before I lived in it. And my grandfather had passed, so we live in this house. And I had a few things happen to me, which is kind of weird now that I'm thinking about it. The first thing that happened to me was we had this room that looked out into, like, the kitchen slash dining area. I remember one night waking up, looking out, and seeing somebody out in, like, the little kitchen area where there was a bar and there was a light on. I couldn't really make up who was there. And the more I woke up, the more I realized nobody was there, but there was someone looking at me. And I know it sounds weird now as an adult, but I saw them staring at me, but I wasn't scared. And again, this is right after my grandfather died. And the weird thing is, my room was actually sit next to where his room was. And I was very close to my grandfather, so I wasn't scared. But I didn't really want to see this anymore. It was in the early 90s, and I was about 12, and so I just turned really quickly and faced the wall. And as soon as I turned around, I felt someone breathing on my neck. That was pretty creepy. In the same place, too. My neighbors used to go to my grandpa's house all the time because he was a cool guy. And we went out to his room after he had passed away. We used for storage for a bit just because we didn't really want to disturb his area that he had. And for him, he had a really weird. I wouldn't say obsession, but something that he liked quite a bit was peanut butter. It's really weird. He put on everything. So anyways, we were going into the storage room, and we heard. Both of us heard someone say peanut butter. And it wasn't like it was that separate time. People heard someone say peanut butter.
David
And.
Josh
And we looked at each other, but
Julia
did you guys hear that?
Matt
And he said, yeah.
Josh
And we're like, what do you say? And we both said the word peanut butter. So that was really weird. But there was times when I was there at the house where I would feel someone breathing on my neck. And this is almost a constant thing. I remember feeling it probably five or six times. And I would also have really weird dreams there. I can remember one specific dream I would have waking up in my grandfather's room and looking outside his window. He had a big picture window and, like, seeing these really weird, like, green and blue lightning and people looking in our window. This was not something that I normally remember or have. I don't really remember having dreams, but this is the only dream I actually do remember. And one last story, too. We were leaving that place and moving to where I live now in Maine, and we had to go to get some boxes from, like, a local store, and my dad asked me to go get keys out of the van. And so we had one of these old Econoline vans. I laid them down in the wheel well, and I went to go get them again. They were gone, and I couldn't find them anywhere. I'm checking my pockets everywhere. They're not there, and I'm freaking out. My dad was not a very gentle man, and so I'm like, he's gonna be really mad. So looking from everywhere in the store, everywhere. My dad went out, we were looking for him. My dad looked in the van. They weren't there. We're back in the store again. Come back out to the van. My dad looked. He goes, oh, here they are. They're in the van. All of a sudden, very weird.
Uncle Z
All right, cool.
Josh
Love you guys. This is great stuff. Hopefully goes on there. Kind of amp to hear what you have to say about it. All right, thank you much.
Matt
Bye
Derek Hayes
now. We appreciate the entry, Josh. It's that invasion of privacy, that complete disregard for personal space that really has me shook, breathing on the neck. Add to it the window peakers, the grandfather saw, and it sounds like something straight from a horror film, which I guess shouldn't come as a surprise. To any of us. Because Massachusetts is a very old state full of tragic history and strange areas. Haunted places like Taunton State Hospital, the Hoosac Tunnel, the USS Salem, the Lizzie Borden House, the Bridgewater Triangle, and a plethora of haunted locations within a town called Salem. But more on that here in a bit. The point is, the paranormal seems to be in the air back that way. And maybe that's the same air that Josh felt on the back of his neck. Shiver inducing stuff. And we thank you again, Josh, for making the call. Now gang, let's work in one more story before our next break. So please welcome Xavier to tonight's program.
Xavier
Hey, Derek. This is Xavier from Gloucester, Massachusetts. I am calling because I was motivated by Marty's Call from Season 18, Episode 49 this story happened right around 2001. I was still living in my parents house and I had come home late from work. You walked in our house and if you took a right, you went to the kitchen, you took a left, you went into kind of like a mud room. And then from there you could either ascend the stairs to the second floor or go right into the living room. So I walked in to the kitchen, grabbed a drink. I then left the kitchen, went straight, took a left up the stairs. The slats in the stairs slowly, slowly became smaller and smaller until they disappeared up to the second floor. Well, as I was walking up the stairs, a nightgown with strawberries on it loaded past me. And I said, oh, that's weird. My sister, who had a bedroom on the first floor off of the living room, I said, she doesn't wear nightgowns. And I hadn't really processed the fact that the nightgown was gliding, not kind of moving. So I took a couple steps down, I took a right back into the kitchen to talk to my sister and there was no one there, not a soul. And this is not something that could have been imagined. I wasn't under the influence of anything. I had literally just come home. I had chugged some water and I was heading upstairs to take a shower. I was of sound mind and I saw a full floating nightgown with strawberries on it go right past me into the kitchen. Followed it into the kitchen after a moment of realization and there was nothing there. So thanks for listening to the story and I love the show.
Lee
Take care.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Xavier. Well, that's something you don't hear every day. A floating nightgown with strawberries on it. And you know, it's that final detail that sells it for me. I can't help but think that that's a weird thing to mention if you're making up the story. But as far as explanations go, Xavier, I'm afraid I don't have one. But I do have a giant thank you for taking the time to share this odd story here with us

Derek Hayes
All right folks, let's get back into the action. Please welcome Kristen to the program.
Kristen
Hi Derek, Sarah and MAU family. I hope all is well. My name is Kristen and I'm from Massachusetts. This story is about my favorite cat and I hate to say that because I've had a lot, but his name is Scooter. He was an orange tabby. He was my best buddy and best buddy to many others as well. He had such an amazing personality. He ruled the neighborhood so much. In fact, when we moved into our new place within a week or so I had kids coming up and asking me if I was Scooter's mom. To this day I don't know how they knew his name as we were new to the neighborhood and didn't really know anyone yet. It still baffles me but he would corral turkeys and herd them like a shepherd to get them safely across the street, never once attacking them, only making sure that they were safe. He would protect my dog if another dog came into the yard. One time, for example, he was sitting casually on the hood of my Jeep in the driveway and a woman had come up with a dog on a leash. I advised her not to come into my yard as my cat was protective of my dog. Well, the lady didn't listen and came into my driveway anyway, almost as if to see what would happen. Well, Scooter leapt off the roof of my Jeep and landed nails out onto the back of the dog. And the lady dropped the leash in shock. And Scooter proceeded to ride the dog down the street and chase it back to its yard, only to come back a few minutes later, all puffed up, looking at us like, can you believe the nerve of that lady and that dog? Well, fast forward a few years, and Scooter was only eight by then. He had an annual vet appointment and they said that he was healthy. A few months later, I'd noticed that his fur was looking raggy and he was starting to lose weight. So I took him to the vet, where they found a deep, inoperable cancerous tumor in his belly. We went home with the knowledge that they couldn't do anything for him and that I would need to say goodbye before he got worse. I'd asked my best friend Anna to come with me to the vet on his last day. She was absolutely in love with Scooter and wanted to be there for support for me. She and I took Scoots to the vet and I held him in my arms against my chest as they administered the euthanasia. And I was telling him that he would be forever with me. But to think of all the mice and the snakes that he would catch once over the Rainbow Bridge. As soon as they did it, it was like a shock went through my body. I felt his soul leave his body and shoot through my heart and into my body and soul. It was the saddest but most amazing thing I've ever felt. Anna could see it in my eyes that something had happened. And I told her afterwards, like, I actually felt his soul go right through my body. Fast forward a couple years and I'd gotten another cat, Maggie Mae. Well, one night on our way upstairs, I was talking to her and videotaping her, as I sometimes do because I'm a crazy cat lady. And I caught her on the stairs just kind of looking around as if waiting, impatient for me. To get my button gear so we could go to bed, when all of a sudden there was an orb that shot out of the stairs right next to her and then disappeared back into the stairs. I could tell that she saw it by her reaction because she was kind of looking around like, what the heck was that? I do have the video and I will send it in. And by the way, she and I still see orbs fly by us 10 years later while we're laying in bed during our nightly petting routine. And an orb will fly across from one side of the room and shoot outside the other side of the house. Maggie and I are able to see this with our naked eyes. I believe that that is Scooter keeping an eye on his mama and making sure that Maggie's behaving herself. Well, thank you guys so much, and I hope all is well and you take care. Thanks again.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Kristen. Scooter sounded like one hell of a guy, and it's just awful when we lose a furry loved one. And having gone through a similar situation myself, I can empathize with you, Kristen. Now, Kristen did send in the video clip she'd mentioned in her story. Go to monsters among us podcast.com and click on the Show Notes tab to take a look. Then you can come to your own conclusions. But in the meantime, big thanks, Kristen. Here at MAU, we love a good cat story. Now, folks, this next entry comes to us from Lisa in Massachusetts, of all places.
Lisa
Hi Derek, this is Lisa from Massachusetts, and I wanted to share a story with you from Freetown, Massachusetts. I've heard you talk often about the Bridgewater Triangle, and this takes place in it. So I work in the real estate industry, and I had the opportunity to be in a historic home for a number of events. And one in particular, I was meeting a group of people there, just a small number. I think there was about four other people aside from me. So it was quite a lengthy appointment. And at one stage I excused myself to use the restroom, which was up
Narrator/Various
on the upper bedroom level of the house.
Lisa
To preface this, I had had a conversation with a few of the people there. We were talking about, you know, historic homes and other parts of the country we had lived in and different experiences we had had. And I shared with them about a historic house that is in my family. And while other members of my family have had some experiences there, I have not, though I might be the most open to experiencing something. And once I said that to them, I felt as though I said it maybe a little too loudly or a little too emphatically. But time went on. And now at the point where I excuse myself to go upstairs for a moment and, you know, in the restroom and almost ready to leave, and I heard very deliberate footsteps come down the hall and a knock on the door. And I said, I'll be out in just a moment. Sorry to keep you waiting. So washed my hands and I'm leaving the room and I look out ready to say once again, sorry to keep you waiting or it's all yours and there's no one there. And then I looked around the corner to where one of the bedrooms was and there was a covered door open that was not open before, which is a little strange. So I went back downstairs and rejoined the party and I said, oh, did someone need to use the restroom upstairs?
Narrator/Various
It's free.
Lisa
And they said, no, we haven't left. We've been here the whole time. So I think I had got what I wished for. And be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it. Thanks, Derek. Keep up the good work.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Lisa. You know, it was only a matter of time before the infamous Bridgewater Triangle reared its ugly head. Hi, Derek, this is Christina. I've been actually listening to your podcast the entire time it's been on. I think it's awesome. I waited this long to call because I'm kind of nervous about talking about these things that happened. Basically, my entire family kind of grew up in a home. I had a lot of supernatural activity, but this was in 1999. It's a Victorian home that was built in, I believe, 1867 and a town southeast of Massachusetts, right in the Bridgewater Triangle area. I was 17. It was the summertime, so it was, you Know, pretty warm out, not too cold. I was sleeping. I think I woke up around 2 or 3 o' clock in the morning. I got up to go to the bathroom. I couldn't really sleep. Everything was off in my room. No tv, nothing was on. So I laid back down and I definitely wasn't sleeping. And all of a sudden, right in front of my face, it sounded like a man, like almost on a microphone. And it was so close to my face, like inches from my face. And he said one word, and it was so loud. And he said, zim. Just like that. Just one word, Zim. So loud. Like, he basically yelled it right in my face. And I was like, what? Like, it took me a second to register in my head. And I started screaming. So my grandmother came in. She said, what happened? I said, the ghost was screaming in my room again, you know, and she said, oh, just leave the door open. But I was completely terrified. I couldn't sleep the rest of the night. I thought I was going to see something, something or hear something again, but I didn't. I just heard that one word, zim, and I told, you know, my friends about it. I tried to figure out what the word could mean. I have no idea what it means. I have no clue what it is. He just said zim. Just one word. And the voice was just so loud. And, I mean, everything was off. This is a 99, so I didn't even have a cell phone or nothing like that. So, anyway, that's my story. Keep up the great content and thank you so much, Derek.
Julia
Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Christina. Now, imagine you're a ghost, and you desperately need to relay a message. And you use up all your energy just to get that message across. And at the end of the day, all you can muster is one single word, and that word happens to be them. What a disappointment that must have been. And it sounds like it wasn't that much fun for Christina either. She was not only spooked over it, but awfully confused as well. Now, perhaps this message isn't as clandestine as we first thought. Maybe someone out there listening knows exactly what the entity was trying to get across. But until that information bores in. A big thanks again, Christina, and thanks for being a longtime supporter of the program. Now, folks, I have much more in store right after this.

Now let's kick off the next block of calls with this entry from Tom Take it away Tom.
Tom
Hello, my name is Tom. I'm from Massachusetts. My story is an entity happened my old house that we used to live in. I was trying to sleep in my room when something made its way from the attic across down the hall past my room and out what would be the bathroom window, I guess. Don't know what it was. It was making noise like human. I don't know if it was speaking, I don't know what it said or what, but it was definitely something that seemed to come down from the attic and out the bathroom window. Never happened again and I never really told anyone that story, but I know I was pretty much frozen scared. Just really weird. Thank you and have a great weekend.
Derek Hayes
We appreciate it Tom. Really weird indeed. And I think being scared by something like this is justified even if there is a logical explanation behind all of it. Weird is right and we thank you again Tom for sharing that weird entry. Now I teased it a bit earlier, but there is one place in Massachusetts that's known worldwide for the occult, history, tragedy and witchcraft, Salem, Mass. And here to share her experience with this paranormal mecha is Guinevere from the State of North Carolina.
Guinevere
Hello, my name is Guinevere from Asheville, North Carolina. I recently took a trip to Salem, Massachusetts and visited the Black House there. Though I wasn't super excited about learning about the men that killed the men and women that were or were not doesn't matter witches during the Salem witch trials, I did want to go to that house because it's the only structure supposedly that is left from that Time period. We went into that house and there's two levels to it. I went with my boyfriend and his kid. So we looked downstairs at the artifacts and then we went upstairs. And upstairs is a landing and then to the right and to the left are rooms to the right, I guess that was the main bedroom and then to the left is the kids playroom. Evidently the person, the awful man that you know, had a huge part in this hysterical time, I guess I made it an effort not to remember who that person was, but his wife had 13 kids in this house. So to the left was the kids playroom and there were some cradles and a big fireplace in there and toys and that sort of thing. But when you come up the stairs, right there is a landing and I think, I think there might have been a writing desk there. It was very light. There were windows and that sort of little side benches you could sit on underneath the windows. And as I walked up to that landing and walked into that space, the floor sort of dropped kind of like when you're on a roller coaster. It kind of. My stomach kind of gave, kind of dropped. And I thought that maybe in an old house like that maybe the floor was sloped. I wasn't sure footed and I. But the floor wasn't sloped because I walked back and forth a little bit and I noticed that I was feeling light headed and kind of dizzy. Not that the room was spinning, but I felt a little. Well, I guess it's lightheaded more than anything else and slightly nauseous. And I also didn't quite know where to sit, if that makes any sense. So I'm standing there staring at a blank part of the wall, trying to collect myself when my boyfriend comes in and he says what's going on? Because he sees me kind of staring into a corner and as I'm telling him I feel uncomfortable right now, I feel dizzy or lightheaded. Right as I was saying that his daughter who's 12 comes into the room from. She had gone into the bedroom and she walks out and she comes over to the landing and she was like, oh, I feel weird here. She's 12. So she was like I feel really weird here, I feel kind of dizzy. And you know, my boyfriend looked at both of us. I was just trying to kind of track how nauseated I was feeling and I let just her and him start to talk and. And I went into the kids playroom because I thought maybe I would feel better in there. But it's a dark room. Honestly in my mind it doesn't have windows. Maybe it does. It was full daylight outside. It wasn't a cloudy day or anything. But that room has some really dark energy about it. I don't even know why. It felt really uncomfortable in there too, but in a very different way. It just felt like something was in there and I decided to leave there. And so I just went downstairs and I mentioned it to the person who was working there, and I just said, has anybody ever said anything about feeling weird upstairs? And he said, what do you mean? And didn't look me in the eye. And I thought, well, okay, he either thinks that I'm just kind of being dramatic or he doesn't, you know, want to talk about it. I have no idea. It was kind of a crazy experience. And then confirmed by this 12 year old who hadn't heard me talking. When I got back home, I googled has anybody felt weird in the Black House in Salem? And I saw a Reddit entry that someone said that when they went into the house. I can't actually remember where they were in the house, but they said that they felt dizzy and uncomfortable. Thanks so much. I am a patron and I'm just so grateful for this space. Thank you so much.
Derek Hayes
Thanks, Guinevere, and thanks for being a patron on Patreon. That helps us out more than you can even imagine. Now, believe it or not, Guinevere wasn't the only one to call in with warnings about the town of Salem. A caller named Lee also chimed in all the way from Australia.
Lee
Hi, Derek, it's Leigh from Picton in New South Wales, Australia. I thought I'd share a little story of what happened to me during one of my trips to the US in 2009. Now, my husband at the time, we booked a trip to the US and we were going to do a few states, one state included Massachusetts. And I thought, oh, excellent, you know, I get to go to Boston, check everything out and so historical and beautiful. And I booked a day trip to go to Salem in Massachusetts, of course, and I wanted to see all the touristy stuff to do with the witch trials and plus, in honesty, to sort of pay my respects. I know that sounds a bit weird, but that's what I really wanted to do. And honestly, if you're coming all the way from Australia and you're going to Boston, why aren't you going to go to Salem Right now? I'm going to cut back before we actually went on the trip, I was working in a correctional facility at the time, and this was four months before we were due to fly out and these numbers kept popping up and it was always 666. And now I don't count 666 as the devil's number. But a couple of times it popped up and I thought, oh, you know, no big deal, whatever it is. But it kept popping up all the time, the same numbers, it would be on receipts when I went shopping, number plates, all sorts of things. And it kept popping up more and more and I was getting a little bit worried. Now I spoke to one of the padres at work and I told him about it and he was fairly level headed and I said, should I be worried? And I'm not religious as such, like believing in a God, I do believe there's a higher power. And he said, well, look, definitely take it as a warning. Just when you go over there, just be careful, keep a look at everything like that. Okay, fair enough. That's what I did. So these numbers kept popping up at least until a week before we left. And I thought, oh, plane's gonna crash, something bad's gonna happen. But I wasn't freaking out about it because it's holidays and you only live once. You've got to enjoy yourself. Eventually we arrived in, in Boston and we stayed a couple of days and I did book a ferry ride to leave Boston Harbour over to Salem. And on this particular day, my husband at the time said, I'm not going. Oh, okay. I still wanted to go. There was no chance in hell I was going to cancel my trip to Salem. And it was a rough day. It was cloudy, it was overcast. And as I got to the ferry terminal, the lady there said, do you get seasick? No. Well, you will. And I'm glad. She gave me these seasickness tablets. And it was a rough trip all the way in the. The waves. And I just couldn't believe it. So I got off the ferry and I had to sit down for a while because I was feeling a bit sick and got better. And I'm walking around and I explored the beautiful town all by myself. Looked at all the touristy things I've got. Course you do. And I did. I went and paid my respects. And on the way home, because there were no more ferries for the day, I had to catch the train home. Now I was at this intersection that you cross the road and there's a train station right across the road. And I'm very wary in another country that people drive on the opposite side of the road. So I press the little button. I'm waiting for the man to come up to say walk and on the left hand side which the cars would come up, it was like a little bit of steep corner and it would turn and I'm waiting and the little man pops up to walk and I stop and I hesitate and I look to my left and there's no cars coming and then I start walking. This car comes out of nowhere and just bang hits me. And I can laugh about it now, but it was terrible. And I'm on the ground and I'm screaming in pain and this lady gets out. Basically what happens. My leg wasn't broken but I was hit by the calm and everything was sorted out. But I actually took that as the warning don't go to Salem, Massachusetts and do this. For whatever reason, if these numbers or warnings ever pop up like that again, it was very intense before I went traveling, I will take notice. In hindsight, would I have cancelled my little trip to Salem? No, I still would have done it because I'm on the other side of the world and you just got to do it. I hope you can use this story and I love your work. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thanks Lee. Good Lord, you must have really wanted to see Salem because that's a wild series of events. And truth be told, I likely would have stopped at the giant waves myself. That would have been far enough for me. But there you have it folks. Two experiences in Salem, two odd experiences, and a big thanks to both Lee and Guinevere for taking the time to ring in. I really need to get the sailor myself, but honestly, who has the time? These days?

Emily
Hi Derek and team. I'm Emily from Eastern Massachusetts. I grew up in eastern Massachusetts in an old house. And one night soon after my eighth birthday in the summer I got up at night to use the bathroom. At the time I had the master bedroom at the front of the house. It's sort of a long skinny old house and you had to walk through my mother and father's room in order to get to the bathroom. And I had a six year old sister in a different bedroom and we had a I guess then three year old brother in his own bedroom. So I got up, just normal happening. I went in to use the bathroom and as I walked past my parents bed I saw a little angel curled up on its right side. On the right side of the bed on the floor. Almost like maybe a cocker spaniel size kind of just you know, curled up asleep next to my mother's side of the bed. I looked at it, I thought okay, there's an angel for whatever reason. And I went in to use the bathroom and I went back through my parents room. I don't remember that end of the trip. Went back to bed and never told anybody about it. Didn't tell a single person. So I'm almost 60, I was 8 then. So that was 1974 I think. And this year I moved back to the same area as my mom who is now 86. It's time for her to have a little bit of help around the house. It would be great if she could stay in her own home, which is that same house, as long as possible. The house has since been reconfigured so the bedrooms are in different places. Anyway, this past couple of weeks we've been talking a lot about stuff because we see each other all the time now. We see each other a couple hours a day and you talk about everything. And she told me that in 1974 in the summer she, she was having a lot of trouble with her lady areas. She had to have something called a dnc, which I didn't know anything about. She calls it a dnc. I don't know if that's really what it is, but it's a medical abortion. It's a situation where she was pregnant for a fourth time and she could not keep the pregnancy. She was having a lot of bleeding, which she didn't tell me when I was a little kid. I didn't have any idea. Anyway, suddenly I thought, oh my gosh. Well, that explains it. Because either it was an angel was watching over my mother or that was a little brother or sister maybe, I don't know. Anyway, I thought you might find it as interesting as I found it to have an experience that you never talked about and then 50 years later to get a piece of information that might explain it. So thank you for everything you guys do. I appreciate it. Bye.
Derek Hayes
Thank you, Ellie. I certainly did find this interesting. I spent the first half of the call racking my brain trying to think of cryptids that might match this description. A cherub looking figure. But I couldn't come up with anything. But as soon as Ellie made her connection, my train of thought switched to the exact same place that hers did. The ghost of her deceased sibling. An incredible coincidence at the very least, Ellie. But from the sounds of things, there's much more here than simple happenstance. An amazing tale. We thank you again for sharing. And folks, that takes us to tonight's final entry. And I save something terrifying for last. Please put your claws together for LJ out of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Narrator/Various
Hi Derek, My name is L.J. i'm calling from Virginia, but this account happened in 1972. I was 6 years old in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Back in that time, my mother used to make our school clothes and she had an old Singer sewing machine that you would pull up and it had the metal plate that ran the bobber to give you a little background on where that sewing machine was and the layout of our house. I was on the second floor, my bedroom with my sisters. And across the hall was my brother's room. We had 15 steep stairs that went up to the second floor. And when you got to the top, like I said, the bedrooms left and right to the back were two dormer windows and my mother's sewing machine set in between those two windows. Also on our bedroom doors, they swung out. Doors typically swing in nowadays, but back then, for whatever reason, those doors swung out. One night in particular, I woke up to the sound of my mother's Sewing machine. I wake up, I go out there. I don't see my mother, I don't see anything at all. And there's this ambient light coming through from the street lights into the dormer window. So I could see quite well actually. Next thing I know, I proceed to go back into my room. And at that time my bedroom door was open. It started to close. And as it closed, I'm watching it. And out from behind the door appears this man. And he very tall, he's a silhouette, he's wearing a hat. He has a trench coat, broad shoulders. And he's standing there. And I remember backing up a few steps and he comes closer to me and he glides actually towards me and bends over at the waist and his face is to mine. And I got the feeling that he wanted to push me down the stairs. His intent was to harm me. I quickly regained myself composure, turned around, ran down the stairs to where my father was in the family room watching television. He worked a late shift, so it was about 2:30 in the morning. I tell him what happened. Goes into his room, gets his gun, goes upstairs. There's no one there. Fast forward. Probably three years ago, my sister comes to visit me. And she comes to Fredericksburg, Virginia and we're walking around this town. There's great shops and we happen to see this one shop that says psychic Spiritual reading. I poke at her and I'm like, haha, won't this be funny? Let's go in. We proceed to go in. There's two women there. One lady takes my sister to one room. I go to the other room and she sits down and proceeds to tell me that there is a father figure coming forward. And I'm like, yeah, yeah, standard, you know, operating procedure I guess. At any rate, she proceeds to tell me a few things which were true. And then she asks me do I have anything for her. At which point I tell her, does my father have anything for me? Is there a message? Is there something I should do? And at that moment she looked up at the ceiling and she looked back down. And when she looked back down, her eyes were different. Not scary. It's just there was something about them. It's like her face almost changed a little bit. And she said to me, your father is telling me to tell you to watch out for the hat man. And I remember sitting there and thinking, what did you just say? And at that moment I got up and walked towards her like I was confronting her. And she said, he said to watch out for the hat man. And that you are to pray every night before you go to bed for protection from him, to protect yourself, your body, your soul, and your dreams. And I tell you, I'm still speechless over that because I It was.

And I just recently stumbled on your show and started listening to this and I'm like, my gosh, there are others. So I thought I would add to it. I'd also like to say I feel like this has marked me in some way and opened me up supernaturally, if you will.
