Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I'm your guide, Derek Case. Hello everyone and thanks for swinging by. I trust you're in the mood to hear something spooky here this evening. Well, I hope that you are, because tonight's episode is chock full of frights, scares and goosebump inducing tales like this one from Chris, the State of New Mexico.
Chris
Hey Derek, this is Chris calling from New Mexico. I am calling in response to Bethany's call in also from New Mexico from episode 12, season 19. And so I'm calling because her story sounded pretty similar to an experience that I had recently and so I wanted to share it. So this happened, I guess less than six months ago. I live in the mountains of northern New Mexico and I live in a pretty remote area on a dirt road that isn't even kept up by the county or anything like that. I have very few neighbors and it's a dead end dirt road. So it's extremely unusual to have vehicles on the dirt road. And even more unusual, in fact, I don't think I've ever seen it where there's been a vehicle on the dirt road at night. So I just mentioned that because I think I've pretty much decided that this wasn't car lights that I experienced. But anyway, I live alone and I have several dogs and they sleep in the bedroom with me. And about I would say 3am I woke up because one of my dogs gave a little bark. And it wasn't like an alarm bark. It was more like, hey, I'm seeing something, should I be concerned? Kind of bark. So I rolled over in bed, and my dog was actually in his crate. And I looked at him just to make sure he was okay, and realized that there was this illumination in the room that was unusual. And so I rolled over to see where the illumination was coming from and realized that the three windows that I have that face north were lit up with this extremely bright light. And the light was kind of moving, like it was undulating, and it had different colors in it, kind of sparkling.
Caller from Portland
And I.
Chris
When Bethany mentioned the sparkling, that really,
Megan
I was like, wow, this is very similar.
Chris
But it did seem to be coming from outside, not inside. And I remember some blue and some green kind of in that bright light, but it was super bright. I was not scared at all. In fact, the exact opposite. I had this very comforting feeling, like I actually felt really happy that they were finally coming to visit me. And I don't know who they are, but I'm assuming extraterrestrial. And then that was it. I fell asleep. So I fell asleep feeling very happy that they were finally coming to visit me. And then I had really nice dreams about telling everyone that they had come and visited me and that I was so happy and that I was so fortunate that they had visited me. And so that's really it. But I have no idea what that was. But definitely Bethany's experience reminded me of it. It hasn't happened before and it hasn't happened since, but I have no idea what that was. Thank you.
Derek Case
Thank you, Chris. You know, there are some locations out there that seem to be more UFO prone than others, and New Mexico is certainly one of them, as our friend Chris here can attest. And whatever it was, it seemed to have quite an effect on her, and understandably so. Even the dog took notice on this one. An incredible experience, Chris, and I'm happy to hear you view it in such a positive way. Thanks again for sharing. No, folks, New Mexico isn't the only state known for strange lights. This next color will fill you in on yet another.
Caller from Portland
Hello, I'm from Portland, Oregon. The first one I'll share happened, I think, around 2012. It was in the summer. It was a warm spring night. I had a friend sleeping over. And from down the hall, I hear my father shout my name. And I run down the hall into his bedroom. And the way my parents renovated their house. Their bedroom was entirely a wall of windows. So my dad is standing in front of the window and he just points and says, look. And I look out and there's all of these little white lights. They kind of looked like fern, actually. They were wiggling up to the sky. And as we watched, more and more and more appeared. I called my friend's name so that they could witness this, but by the time that they had come down the hallway into my dad's room, the light had vanished just as quickly as they showed up. So after that, I went back to my room and began googling, trying to figure out surely someone else must have seen this or there would be some like, news headline or something, because there were so many likes, hundreds. And I found nothing. So, yeah, that's my first rookie story. Thank you so much.
Derek Case
Thanks caller. You know, this one almost sounds biological as I think our caller sort of alluded to. Maybe glow worms, fireflies, fungus, something natural. Or maybe it was fairies, the Fae folk sprites. But you know, I get the feeling they only glow brightly like that in the movies. Now whatever it was, it sounds like it put on quite a show. So thank you caller, for sharing that experience here with us. All right, gang, we're just getting started. But before I share this next call about a real life goblin, I need to take a quick ad break. I'll be right back. Real kinship, vital companionship and fellowship. Now, before we unleash the Goblin, I first need to share with you a story about a game I bet many of you have played. Please welcome Tina out of California.
Tina
Hello. This is Tina from Northern California. So when I was probably third or fourth grade, my cousin and I are the same age, and we have a older cousin who's probably five years older than us. And it was her birthday, so she had a sleepover, and she had about four friends. And then she invited me and my cousin. So there was probably seven of us girls total. We are spooky kids. We love, you know, scary movies. My aunt would get us all scared by telling us spooky stories, and we just love to get freaked out. So at her summer party, she wanted to play Light as a feather. So if you've ever played it or you know about it, basically everyone sits on the floor, someone's in the middle. Everyone puts two pinkies under the person and chance light as a feather, stiff as a board. And the goal is that this person is supposed to levitate. So I went first. And now I was not, like, a skinny child. I wasn't, like, super big, but I was solid. And I'm thinking I was probably 10 or 11. So anyways, they start chanting Light as a feather. Super bore. There's probably, like, six girls with their pinkies under me. And I close my eyes. I just relaxed. I was doing this thing. I was super excited.
Chris
After a while, I realized that they
Tina
weren't chanting anymore, and I kind of wanted to see what was going on. So I opened my eyes, and I was, like, inches from the ceiling. I didn't panic, but I was surprised. I was like, oh, wow. Like. And then I got heavy, and they let me down on the ground.
Chris
So I thought that worked.
Tina
That was awesome. And my cousin was supposed to go next, and she got a little freaked out by that. She did not want to play that game anymore. And I think that, you know, she saw me basically levitating up there. I mean, how do you pick someone up with your pinkies? And didn't want to play that anymore. So she said, let's play Ouija board instead, which is, you know, I don't see how that's any Better. But growing up, my parents were very religious by this time. And so when she said Ouija board, I was just, like, terrified, because you don't screw around with the devil that just. You would.
Megan
You don't want to do that.
Tina
And also, I was terrified my parents would find out I just did not want to play at the Ouija board. And so we all go into the garage. You know, in the early 80s, everyone had, like, massive amounts of board games. So we go in there, they're all organized, and I just start praying, please don't find the Ouija board. Please don't find the Ouija board. Just begging anyone who will listen, you know, in my head that, no, we can't find the Ouija board.
Chris
And we're looking, we're looking.
Tina
My aunt's looking. Everyone's looking. They can't find the game anywhere. Like, they're tearing the game shop apart. There is no Ouija board anywhere. And finally, my cousin's like, oh, forget it. Let's just go watch a movie. And I was just like, oh, thank you so much.
Jen
Like, oh, I'm sorry.
Tina
So relieved we don't have to deal
Derek Case
with the Ouija board.
Tina
You know, the rest of the night is fine. We do whatever. Next morning, we're eating breakfast, and someone goes out to the garage refrigerator to get the orange juice. And they come back in and they're like, look, the Ouija board was sitting on the counter the whole time. Everyone just, like, stopped and was going,
Jen
no, it wasn't like, we were all
Tina
in there looking for. For it, and it was not there. And then the next morning, it was just plain as day right there. And no one else was home. My other cousins and my uncle were gone, so it was just us. So I know that nobody was screwing around, hiding it, because everyone wanted to play it. Everyone, even my aunt, except me. I'm the only one who did not want to play that. And so, you know, I don't know who was helping me, but I was super grateful that we didn't have to play that. So, anyways, that's my story about the Ouija board.
Chris
Thanks, Derek.
Tina
Bye.
Derek Case
Thank you for the call, Tina. Light as a feather, stiff as a board. You know, I played it as a child, and surprisingly, it worked, sort of. But where did the game come from? And how exactly does it work? Well, I hope you're prepared to have your childhood ruined. Courtesy of B60.
B60 (Science Explainer)
The first known account of the game came from the diary of Samuel Pepys, an English naval officer in the 1600s, which just so happens to overlap with the Salem witch trials. Coincidence. But unfortunately, there isn't any magic behind the levitation trick, but rather science. According to ABC science, it's as simple as timing our bad memory of the mystical event and underestimating the strength of a bunch of middle school girls. The eerie chant lies, light as a feather, stiff as a board actually sets up the timing of the lift. And despite how in tune with the spirit world you may feel while you're doing it, the whole thing is less graceful than you remember, with the stiff as a board person usually being hastily lowered by fatigued fingers. So not quite as light as a feather as you will probably recount to your friends, who totally weren't there. And of course, strength. After all, a 100 pound tween divided amongst eight hands is only about 12 and a half pounds each.
Derek Case
Womp, womp. What a bummer. But I'll tell you this, it sure felt real. When I was a kid, I could have swore that some sort of magic was happening. But either way, thank you again, Tina, for the phone call and for the little jaunt down memory lane. Talia
Hi, my name is Talia. I am a new listener. I got put onto this podcast by two friends, Shout Out Travis and Marina. So I've been encouraged to share my most recent experience. I'll just start out by saying straight up, I saw a goblin. I know how it sounds, but I mean, if there's any place to share, this is the place. So this takes place about a year ago in Baltimore City. So I'm having a really bad day. Things are going terribly. This one thing after another is going wrong, everything that day. And I am on the verge of like freaking out, having a total breakdown, just totally losing it. So I just got home from work and decided to order myself some food because I'm like, I'm not Dealing with anything else. Today I'm gonna stay home, just stuff my face and that's it. So I'm waiting for my food, it comes now I start walking down to go pick it up. Now this is in the middle of Baltimore City, very busy, traffic, it's rush hour. Like it's not quiet. It's a really weird time for me to, you know, see something such as this. So I'm walking towards the lobby in my apartment, which is where the food got dropped off. Now I have my own entrance into my apartment because it's right there on the ground floor so I can walk right off of Charles street for those of you in Baltimore, you know. So I'm walking towards the lobby and I start getting towards the lobby and I realize that I don't have my apartment key. So I walk back, I totally forgot it, grab my apartment key, start walking back. I get to the front lobby key and there's like a malfunction on the door. The door won't open, so I'm like really mad. And like for 15 minutes I couldn't get into the lobby because Princess Person wasn't there. So I'm walking back to my apartment again, ready to just completely blow my lips. As I'm walking back, I stop and I notice about 3ft tall in black robes, they're all shredded. Like, he looks like he's been traveling. He has some sort of like pack or something on his back, he's hunched over, he's got like a stick, like some sort of staff, like a walking stick sort of thing. And the best way I can like explain, he looks like the guy that played Toad in that like, early 2000s X Men movie. That like the first one that came out, he looked like that guy. And for some reason, I don't know why, he seemed English, I don't know, it was really weird. Now when I saw him, he is cracking up, looking at me, laughing hysterically. And I know he is laughing at me, he's getting a lot of enjoyment. My first reaction was I said out loud. I'm looking at him and I'm like, haha. Like you got me, like very annoyed all of a sudden. Like, I'm not angry anymore. I don't feel threatened. That's why my initial reaction, like I wasn't getting a threatening vibe from this creature, but definitely he was getting a rise out of my misfortune, like really, really enjoying it. And I'm staring at him and he sees Wu seeing him and we both have a moment of like, what the Hell, like, yeah, I see you. And he's like, you can actually see me? Like, you can say this out loud, but I can hear or, like, feel what is going through his head. So he's starting to, like, phase in and out. He was, like, going blurry and, like, becoming more difficult to see. And it was. The more I tried to focus my physical eyes, the more he started to disappear on me until he was just completely gone. Now, I've had my fair share of experiences with Supernatural. Some intentional, some not so much. In my practice, I've been working on this gift of sight, and in this, I've come to realize, like, how important it is to view things with more than just your physical eyes. And that's where this lesson became abundantly clear to me. I began to understand how this, like, truly, truly worked. And after this, the clarity brushed over me like I was in shock for a minute. I was like, oh, my God, what did I just see? And then I'm like, oh, my God. I really did just. I saw a Goblin. And I, like, sat on this for a while. I didn't know who to talk to. But I did end up sharing. And my friends, they led me here to share this story. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Thank you guys so much for listening.
Derek Case
Now you see what sharing the show does here, folks. It gets us Goblin stories. A huge thanks to your friends, Talia, for introducing you to the program, and a big thanks to you for sharing this strange experience here with us. Typically, I would dive into some carefully researched information here, but not this time, because there simply isn't any floating around out there. Both Delaney and I scoured the Internet in hopes of finding a similar tale from a similar location, but we were not able to make a single match. Except that seven years ago, a user on Reddit listed Baltimore Goblins as something reported in the city of Baltimore. That said, that one single mention I've linked to that Reddit post if you'd like to take a look. And I've also linked to an image of the Marvel character to Talia thought the creature looked like Toad, played by Ray Parker. Both tidbits of information can be found in tonight's show notes at monsters among us podcast.com and by clicking on the Show Notes tab. But outside of that, I haven't a clue. Talia. But I will tell you, it's not the first Goblin story we've shared here on the program, so maybe someone listening has some input. Either way, we appreciate the amazing story. Thanks again for sharing. And that's being renegotiated again because of the TV show.

Well, we're going to go from a goblin to a possible big hairy monster. Please welcome Megan out of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Megan
Hey Derek, My name is Megan. I live in central Pennsylvania. My story is coming from a small collection of things I've experienced in central Appalachia. I work for the state as basically a field biologist and I study fats. So a lot of my work is nocturnal. A lot of my work takes me deep into Appalachian woods all over the state. And I don't like to say I scare easily, I don't. But I know when my instincts are telling me something is wrong. A lot of these encounters are at night and I've experienced everything from hearing whistling at night. I've experienced that twice knocking on trees, which I know what it sounds like when trees rub together or when they fall over. It was not that. And on a few occasions just the feeling of a presence nearby. Whether I was alone or I was working with other people and I knew exactly where they were at. It was a sensation of something being right next to me or behind me. And of course I turn around and there's nothing there. I've had one incident where I was sitting in the dark. We were doing some overnight trapping and I was just sitting by myself for a minute. My co worker had to go check the trap. It was his turn and it was dead quiet until I heard something whispering in my ear. I can't tell you what they said. I have no idea. I couldn't make out any words. It just. It was something speaking in my ear. I'm getting goosebumps right now just thinking about it. But it was not pleasant. It didn't feel like it was a. Like a friendly presence, you know what I mean? Like, you know when something feels off or you feel like you're in danger. It felt like a threat. Thankfully, we only had to stay there another hour and I drove home in silence for like half the drive Because I was trying to calm myself down and think about what that was. I know some of my other co workers have experienced things like this as well. Especially the coworkers that also live in the thick of Appalachia. I don't know if I believe whether or not the stories here are true about strange things that happen. But I can tell you after about three years of doing this work that I think something is trying to make me a believer of the supernatural. And I just am here for the ride. So yeah, that's my story. I wanted to share it with you guys. Been listening to your show for a hot minute. Really love what you guys are doing. Please keep doing it. Appreciate you guys and the other callers. All right, Derek, have a good one.
Talia
Bye.
Derek Case
Thanks Megan. Whistling at night. Well, Bigfoot is set to do that. Knocking on trees. Well, there are claims they do that as well. And the feeling of being watched from the wood line. Check. There are plenty of reports out there that also involve that little detail. But the whispering in Megan's ear. I don't know that I've ever heard of a Bigfoot witness claim that activity occurred. So maybe these are separate events. Maybe they're symptoms of something bigger. Maybe it was all in Megan's head. But I bet none of that matters when you're out there in the woods experiencing it. Right Megan? Creepy stuff. And we absolutely love it. A big thanks again Megan for taking the time to call in. All right folks, this next story is very similar to Megan's tale. Please welcome Lacey out of Alabama.
Lacey
Hey Derek. This is Lacey and I'm from south Alabama. And I want to share a couple stories of my family home which is 126 year old house on 40 something acres in the middle of nowhere in Alabama. It takes us 20 minutes to get to a gas station. There's not a stoplight in my town and there's no convenience stores. As a kid like 16 and 17, I spent a lot of time alone. My dad was an offshore worker and I was the only person living in the house. So that meant I had a lot of responsibility. I had to take care of the house and I had to go to school. So there were times where I would get home very late because I would either go to church or I would go to band practice. And sometimes it would be very late. I remember one time I left for school one day I locked all the Doors. It was the summer, I think, and I kept a couple of lights on. I was paranoid anyway, living alone as a girl 16, but I had a fear of the dark too, which made it so much worse. So I left the porch light on specifically, and the interior lights, like, in the living room on. And I locked the doors also. I locked all the windows too, because I was always paranoid of someone, like, getting in the house and waiting for me at home. So I left for school, and when I returned, it was probably 8 o' clock at night. So it's the summertime, so it probably just got dark. My driveway is a mile long. So I remember driving down my driveway and I had this feeling of dread or like someone was watching me or something. Now, it wasn't uncommon to have this feeling on this land. For some reason growing up as a child, I would always have a feeling of dread or a feeling of someone watching me. And then there would be times where I would feel like the woods would call to me. I know that sounds crazy, but in the middle of the night, I would feel like I should just go walk in the woods, which is creepy enough as it is. I always ignored those instincts. And if you know, you know, you close all your blinds, you don't look out, you don't leave your lights back on all night with the blinds open. So I was driving down my driveway and my house was positioned where it was, directly at the end of the driveway. And my headlights hit the door. Except there's no door there. There's just pitch blackness. And I quickly realized my door is open. And in my head I'm like, holy crap, someone broke into my house. What do I do? And then I saw the windows open. Now this is another level of, like, who would come and mess with me enough to put all the windows up and open the door? So I just sat there for a second. And I just remember feeling, like, sick. Like I was like, I don't know what to do. I'm 16. Do I call cops? Like, is this a waste of the cops time? You know? So I ended up calling a guy friend to come over. And we cleared the house and everything was fine. All the light switches were switched down. There was nothing taken. There was no forced entry. My door, in fact, still was locked, but it was open. So that always freaked me out because I had no explanation. So that's one of my experiences. Another experience didn't necessarily happen to me. Me and my best friend, we were having a bonfire in the front part of our property. So it was probably Half a mile away from my house. It was a large field, but it had wood surrounding it. So just woods everywhere. She was like, I want to go use the bathroom, but I don't want to go to your house, so I'm just going to go to the woods. And I said, well, you know, be careful. Never know if you step on a snake or anything because it was probably fall time. And she went inside the woods and she didn't come out for like an hour. So everybody at the party was panicking. They were like, well, let's go look for her. So a couple of guys go and look for her and they end up finding her and they bring her out and she's like crying and she's covered in scratches. So I'm like, did you get lost, dude? Like, what happened? You know, we were all freaking out. And she was like, no, I. I was running and I was like, what? So in my head I'm like, maybe she was just drunk. You know, there was drinks involved at this party. And she was like, no, I saw red eyes watching me and I started to run and I felt like something was chasing me. And that was when I started to get like freaked out. Because I was the only person that really experienced. I mean, my family experienced it too, but I was the only person that really experienced that feeling of dread when being on the property. But now I had someone else telling me another story. And bringing a new experience into the fold was not what I was expecting. So I told her, you know, maybe it was the drinks, but deep down, like, I had that feeling of she was telling the truth. So we push it off, you know, like she always comes back to my house, she talks about it and she always tells people all the time, lacey's property is haunted. But I have one last experience and then it'll wrap it up. So the same best friend and I, we were sitting on the porch one day, it was a clear night, there was no lightning, there was no wind, and it was probably springtime. So nothing going on weather wise, no clouds, you could see the stars. And she's the one who pointed it out. She's like, there's something in the woods. And I remember being like, what are you talking about? First of all, I'm taught to ignore this stuff, you know, like, you should ignore it, you shouldn't acknowledge it. But when she says there's something in the woods, there's this large crack and then there's like large rustling, like something is running. And I quickly tell her like, hey, let's Go inside, we'll just lock the doors. We'll be fine. So she doesn't want to ignore it, but she comes inside with me. She goes, that was so weird. Like, we're just standing by the door. Like, the door deadbolt's locked, and we're just like looking at each other like, what? What is going on? So we go to sleep. We just ignore it. The next day she tells me, well, I want to go where I thought I heard the big crash. Like, I want to go where I thought maybe the tree had fallen because she kind of deduced the crashing to maybe a tree just falling over. Maybe it was just a dead tree, you know? So we go out to where we heard the noise of, like the general area and probably like 10ft into the wood line. A tree, like a healthy tree, I would say about 3ft thick, was snapped, like, snapped in half. And by snapped, I mean there's not a clean cut. It looks as if someone like you or I would take a branch and we would snap it. You know, it looks like something did that to that tree. So she and I are both like, what the frick? Like, what do we do? I mean, there's nothing to do. But by then we really have come to the determination, like, there is something in the woods or there is something that is the woods. And we honestly, for the rest of my time at my family home, like, I stayed away from the woods as much as I could, but I just don't understand what does this being or thing gain from doing these small things, you know? So if anyone could explain it, I would appreciate it. But thank you for giving me a voice to my story and I love listening to your podcasts. I appreciate it.
Derek Case
Thank you, Lacy. Well, folks, what do you think about this one? Why would all this activity be happening in this one designated location? Like I said, very similar to Megan's entry. And depending on which part of Alabama Lacey is located in, both of these tales also could have originated from the Appalachian Mountains. So eerie is all. Get out, Lacy. And we thank you for taking the time to make the phone call. You're married, but you're on the other side.
Megan
Hey, everybody.

Now folks. Sometimes everyday items can do weird things. Just ask Alyssa. She's calling in from Wisconsin.
Alyssa
Hi Derek, My name is Alyssa. I'm from Wisconsin. I have a really spooky story that happened to me back when I was in college. I went to college in eastern Tennessee. I started out with a roommate that I just didn't get along with. She was snooping through my things and I caught her. When I caught her, she knocked a can of Diet Coke over onto my laptop, causing me to have to pull all of the keys off of the laptop in order to try to dry it. As I was putting it back together, my F9 key was missing. Not the most important key, so made
Derek Case
it through the school year.
Alyssa
Laptop kept working and moved about half of my things home. Put the other half of my things into storage. When I went back to school, I did move into an apartment. It was apartment number 13. There was a private graveyard in the field behind my apartment. Had about eight or nine little graves in it from the 1800s. And I always felt kind of spooky in this apartment because although it was number 13, it also had a direct view of the graveyard from my bedroom window. Lots of creepy experiences there, but the creepiest one was I had left my laptop on my bed that was made when I went off to class one day. Back then, laptops didn't make it long enough to get through class, and when
Chris
I came back, my F9 key was
Alyssa
sitting on top of my laptop. I asked my roommate, I asked our friends, is someone trying to mess with me? Nobody had any idea what was going on. To this day, I still don't know how that F9 key disappeared or how it came back in such a weird way more than a year later. Moving forward in my life, I've had other things go missing and after moving a couple of times, they would appear in places that had been cleaned. Earrings on a countertop, bracelets and a pair of shoes. Things that shouldn't be found where they're found, as I had used those areas. So I do believe that I have a poltergeist that follows me to this day. I kind of ignore him now, but it was very real and very creepy. Thanks for listening.
Derek Case
Thank you, Elissa. You know, I could use one of these helpful poltergeists myself. If they all behaved like that, I think there would be one in every single American household. Apple presents the I Poltergeist or whatever. Fun stuff, Alyssa. It sure beats the dark alternative that many of these stories tend to have. We thank you again and we appreciate the phone call. Now, gang, don't forget that we have Monsters Among Us merch available in our shop. Visit monsters among us podcast.com and click on that shop tab. You'll be happy that you did. Now, folks, let's venture on to Missouri for this next entry. Vince, the mic is yours.
Vince
Hey, Derek, my dude. This is your biggest fan. This is Vince from Missouri. I'm going to tell you about a tale that I had while I was living in Osceola, Missouri last year. It was a nice spring night in Osceola, Missouri. I was on 140 acres. You go outside and when it's dark, I mean, it's pitch freaking dark. I mean, it's just there's no light pollution or anything out there. You just step outside and it's just dark. Anyway, I stepped outside and there was three green undulating lights. They were, like, swirling within each other. I just thought I was high or something. I mean, here's the thing. I've never had weed screw with my head or make my brain think that there was something else going on. You know what I mean? Anyway, these three undulating lights were in the tree line about 8ft up out there by the wood pile. And when I would kneel down, they would kneel down with me. And when I would stand up, they would stand up with me. And it always made me think that if there was going to be a Sasquatch in Missouri, it would be out there on that land. I know orbs and lights are associated with Bigfoot, and I don't know what the hell else they could have been. But the left one would swirl in, the right one swirl in, and they would just undulate. It was pretty trippy. I didn't think much about it then, but the more I listen to your show, listen about orbs and things like that, the more I think about it. I don't remember a lot of times when my brain tricked me into seeing other things. You know what I mean? I know a lot of people say, oh, my brain was tricking me or seeing other things, but if you really think about it, your brain really isn't tricking you. I mean, you're seeing what you're seeing, like, for real. I think there was something out there. It was just too Real? I mean, why would there be three undulating green lights out there in the woods in the pitch dark, about 10:30 at night? Anyway, dude, I love you, bro. Love your show. Hey, have a good one, bro.
Derek Case
Thank you, Vince. Right back at you. Now, three undulating lights in the forest. Identical lights, perhaps, which leads me to believe that these might have been the mirrored man holding flashlights. No, I kid. But this experience did make me think of that troublesome trio. It made me realize it's been quite a while since we've heard a new report. Now, as for Vince's experience, the description here sounds a lot like spook lights or ghost lights to me. Mysterious, predictable lights usually seen from great distances. Maybe in Vince's case, he got up close and personal with the actual source. After all, the Show Me state is full of spook lights and home to some of the country's most famous examples. There are these Senate flights where witnesses claim that the light will bubble car paint and cause your engine to stall. The Ferenberg lights are claimed to be caused by a headless man walking with a swinging lantern. And then there's the Joplin or Hornet spook light on the Oklahoma, Missouri border, a light of varied size and shape that's been reported since well into the 1800s. So for there to be one more example of these unexplained anomalies and for it to be found on the land Vince was staying on there in Missouri, well, I guess that is par for the course. But next time, try to get a picture or a video of it. I'd love to see these lights with my own eyes. Thank you again, Vince, for the entry. Thanks again for calling in. Now, this next one is pretty incredible. Please welcome Jen, all the way from New Hampshire.
Jen
Hi, Derek. My name is Jen, and I'm calling from New Hampshire. But my story is out of a small town outside of Asheville, North Carolina. This is my mother's experience, but I would like to share it because not only is it uniquely strange, but it's also something that has somehow brought me peace. So, for some background, my mother raised my sister and me with a severe visual impairment that eventually progressed into a complete loss of vision. And coincidentally, three months before my wedding, back in 2021, she ended up going completely blind. So my mom has been severely visually impaired since the age of 6, and she's now 71. We're not really sure what causes the disease. It's an extremely rare eye disease. So, that being said, my mother's story happened a few months ago, so it's fresh in my mind. My mother called me and told me that she woke up one morning, the morning that she called to tell me. Actually she Woke up at 5am and that just tends to be her normal sleep cycle. Mom uses a lot of accessibility gadgets to help her do normal everyday tasks like operating microwave or using her cell phone. But in this instance, it's her bedside clock that I'm going to be talking about. On her nightstand is this talking clock, and it's literally a silver speaker with a button on the side. She pushes the button and it tells her the time, and that's literally all it does. Very simple and also very old. So when she Woke up at 5am she opened her eyes and reached to push the button on her clock. And just keeping in mind she's blind, next to her bed, she saw standing a woman who was facing her nightstand. Not my mom, but facing the nightstand and kind of looking down, perplexed at the nightstand, or what was on the nightstand. Mom did not look at her at the same time she was looking at Mom. And in fact, I actually think that the woman standing at the bedside did not even notice my mom. She didn't even seem very interested, more so that she was perplexed at what was on her nightstand. But the cool thing was, is that she could see it. I mean, she went colorblind at 6 and by the time she was 69, she lost all light, shapes, shadows, everything. Couldn't see a face. And then here we are a few months ago, and she can see this woman. She didn't recognize the woman, but she could describe to me what her hair looked like, what color pants she was wearing, the pattern on her sweater. And as mom is describing to this, I started crying because, oh my gosh, she could see. You know, she's had a guide dog her whole life. We were driven around our whole life. I don't know any different, having a sighted mother, but here she is describing to me all of these things. And so what perplexes me is that I believe that she saw an entity or maybe was able to perceive energy from a dimension that was maybe blending with ours. I don't know. So the woman didn't seem to look at mom or seem to be interested in her at all, which seemed kind of like something that I wouldn't expect an entity like that to do. I would think that it would be more interested in the living than something that was sitting on her nightstand. But mom ended up just closing her eyes, open them back up, and in complete Darkness again, the lady had left. Also of note, I have a medical degree and have worked in hospitals more than half my life. And I have never in my life or my career hurt anybody with a severe sight impairment or blindness. Describe being able to see clear as day. An entity or whatever or whoever she was able to see. Mom said that a feeling she got when she was observing the woman was neutral. She didn't feel like she was in danger, she didn't feel threatened, and she wasn't scared. And I think it offers a new or different perspective maybe into how humans can still, you know, quote unquote, sea energies, but without our given earthly sight as most of us know it. So I'm genuinely curious. I'm wondering if there's anybody else out there who has experienced the same thing or know somebody who's been able to see entities even though they're blind or significantly visually impaired. Also, I find it strange that our guide dog did not react, or at least mom didn't notice the jingling of his dog tags on his collar. So very strange. But anyways, Derek, thank you for everything that you do. And I truly believe that you're doing so much good in this world.
Alyssa
Take care.
Derek Case
We appreciate the entry chat. That is a tough one to explain. But how about it, folks? Are there other stories out there of sight impaired people momentarily getting their sight back and then them seeing a ghost, no less? Now, before we move on, I'm curious about one thing here, Jen. Was your mother only able to see the woman and nothing else, or were her surroundings suddenly visible as well? I'm not sure the distinction matters, but I can't help but think of it. So how about it, folks? That's one you'll probably be thinking about for a while. I know that I will. Thank you again, Jen, for sharing the call. Well, gang, this next entry is a super strange one. Or at least that's how I see it. From my state of California, please welcome Roo to the platform.
Roo
Hey, Derek. You can call me Roo. I'm what you would call sensitive. I notice things around us, around everyone, every day that a lot of people don't notice. And a lot of these things notice me noticing them, which sometimes doesn't turn out great, but most of the time it's fine. The ones that don't turn out great make me really envious of people who are not sensitive. In those cases, ignorance is truly bliss. Anyway, here's one that hopefully will stand out. I live in Northern California, near the coast, in a real small town, kind of Nestled in the redwoods. I mean, if you imagine, like, tall redwoods and cold oceans, you're close enough. Anyway, something happens in my small, tiny town, like, once or twice a year. What happens can actually be experienced by people who are not sensitive, who are not like me. So I guess it's powerful enough. Anyway, whenever it happens, it's at night, and it's always really windy. Like the wind is stirring up other spiritual energies. And you can tell, like, this isn't just like a normal wind. It's like kind of foul feeling. Like you can almost smell decay coming from real far away. You can't quite smell it. It's kind of like a slightly dreadful feeling. On a night like this, when it's windy like this, most everyone will have a nightmare. You know, the nightmare might differ a little bit, but the theme is always the same. In the nightmare, it's night, it's dark. You're being hunted by something you can't see or maybe can't quite perceive. You're terrified. You're trying to get away. You can't get away. Whatever is hunting you gets you in the end. That's when the dream ends. And then you wake up. You always wake up in the middle of the night when you're having this nightmare and you wake up. It's like you got a cold sweat. You can hear the wind just howling around your house, like, ripping through the trees. I have, you know, a husband, my child, a young child. We all wake up at the same time usually, you know, from the dream that's the same. The next day, I'll call down to a neighbor or two and, you know, like, hey, did you have the nightmare? And they're like, yeah, we had it. You know, and the kids had it. You know, my town's real small. It just happens so often. It's kind of commonplace now. And we just kind of go on, you know, with our day. I don't talk to everybody, so I don't know, maybe not everyone has it. I'm sure there are people who have it and don't say anything. Like, you know, maybe older folks who have, you know, real conservative views about spirituality. You know, anyone who lives like a place like here, Northern California, I mean, everyone knows that we're not the first humans here by far. I mean, this whole place 200 years ago was populated by Native Americans. And the tribe that was here where I live, was the Pomo. And we all know what happened, you know, to a lot of those people. A lot of Native Americans died by white settlers I mean, even my tiny little town has its own stories of massacres right here, so maybe that's related also. I mean, on other podcasts I've heard about malevolent spirits by the name of Stick Indians. They are malevolent. They're like nocturnal, not necessarily human in origin, I guess. And most notably they have the power to influence the mental state. So that makes me think that maybe it's like a local version of that or something. Anyway, love your podcast. Till next time, take it easy.
Derek Case
Thank you bro. There's something on the wind, apparently. And what a wild concept that the wind could bring with it. Evil intentions, incantations, or at the very least, nightmares not to be believed, and have it not only happen to you, but your entire family and your neighbors as well. It's part of a real life Stephen King story and it sort of has me at a loss for words here. And in situations like that I try to just let the story do all the talking. So I'll simply say thank you Roo, for the chilling entry. I hope you get some answers at some point. We thank you for calling in. Alright gang, that's the end of the line here. Jane
Hello, Derek.
Chris
My name is Jane.
Jane
I was born in Los Angeles, but I moved to North Dakota when I was 10. And we lived out in the country and I guess we lived kind of parallel to Minot Air Force Base. But one night I decided to camp out in the yard and I looked up and I saw the stars. I mean, there was no other light around us. And it was right next to a river, of course. And I did see. I saw a. A flying saucer. Okay, it was what would be called a flying saucer. Anyway, it was a round craft up above me, pretty far up in the sky. Maybe not as high as an airplane, I don't know, but it had lights all around it and it was round and it just seemed like it was from a different dimension. This is around 1970. It's just been weighing on me because I listen to your podcast and I'm eager to share other stuff. Thank you.
Derek Case
Thank you for ringing in, Jane. North Dakota is another of those states said to be UFO magnets, especially back in the late 60s and according to Jane, perhaps the early 70s as well. Minot Air Force Base has hosted a number of infamous UFO encounters both in 1966 and 1968, with at least one witness claiming the craft shut down missile launch capabilities during that brief period. You can read more about that in the show notes or Visit this week's monster missive over on Patreon. But given the historical ramifications of this sighting, I gotta say it's amazing stuff, Jane. I'm a sucker for a good historical ufo, and Jane here certainly delivered. So thanks again Jane for sharing your tale here with us. Chris
Hi Derek, this is Anonymous calling from from Iowa. So I'm going to start out with a story. It's kind of two parts but they sort of coincide. So I had just moved in to a town home and it was like a couple days after I moved in. It's a three story home. So all three of my children are up on the third story. Then there's the main level and then I took my room in the basement that typically should probably be like a living room or something like that. And so there's like a staircase going up to the main floor. I woke up one night, just snap. Just woke up for no reason. I saw my dog standing at the bottom of the stairs barking. And that hallway light was on and I know I turned that off before I went to sleep because it shines and wakes me up. I need it to be pretty dark and dim when I sleep. And he was standing at the bottom of the stairs barking and I'm like what the heck?
Caller from Portland
Like angry barking.
Chris
And he's not a mean dog, he's a golden doodle. They don't have a mean boat in their body but so it was very shocking to me.
