I mean, Parker was the one, like, pushing, I want to do this again. And, you know, a few of the other girls, they've been talking about wanting to do it.
Danielle Busby
Even Olivia have been talking about getting back into.
Adam Busby
But for them, it's just, like, super. Just casual. Yeah, but Parker, you can tell, like, there's like, a fire in her eyes about, like, being better, Honestly, like, me growing up in the 80s and knowing, like, how big Michael Jackson was, but I was, like, so sheltered. I didn't really. I mean, I knew Michael Jackson was, like, super famous and stuff, but, like, I was, like, sheltered from, like, listening to his music and stuff until, like, later on and. And so, like, I never really understood everything, like, about, like, his story and how big he was and stuff, just because we never, like, listen to that.
Danielle Busby
Let's get on to a topic today. Just go through some questions that people probably assume they know, and we're going to answer these.

This is More Than Reality podcast, where we dive into all things faith, family and marriage and share that there is so much more than the reality that you see on the surface. Welcome to More Than Reality with Adam and Danielle Busby.
Danielle Busby
Hello.
Adam Busby
Welcome, guys. This is More Than reality podcast episode 83.
Danielle Busby
Nice.
Adam Busby
I'm Adam and this is my wife, Danielle Busby, and Danielle Michelle.
Danielle Busby
Was that from dinner last night?
Adam Busby
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we had a. We had a pretty, pretty. A Mother's Day just happened weekend. We kind of. We started the weekend off with Parker.
Danielle Busby
Oh, my gosh. Yeah. I feel like the time is. I feel like that was like the week before. But, yeah, Parker competed in her first
Adam Busby
gymnastics competition, so this was, like, huge. I mean, yeah.
Danielle Busby
If you follow us, you know our story of Parker, especially when she was younger. Going through, like, just was a super anxious kind of kid. Just always, like, so anxious at times that she would just throw up because she didn't know what to do. And, like, her body would just get so nervous and she just throw up. But to see her want to do something like this by herself without her sisters, like, being there, too. Because usually in our world, if one quint is doing something, another quint's doing it, too. Like, it's just pretty typical. So when someone wants to do something and we're like, hey, do you want to go do this? They're like, well, who's coming with me? And so it's kind of like this thing in our house. Like, it's always like, you don't have to do it with a sister. You can do it by yourself. Like, if it's something you enjoy and you want to do, like, you don't have to have a sister with you.
Adam Busby
Riley does tennis. Some of the other girls have, like, come and gone, but, like, Riley's, like, stuck with that. That's, like, her thing. And she likes it and.
Danielle Busby
And she'll do it by herself. She don't. She don't ask. She knows, like, she will go play tennis anytime. And so we feel like we found that with Riley.
Adam Busby
Yeah, but years ago, the quints did gymnastics, like, you know, like, the little tumbling stuff.
Danielle Busby
And, oh, I did Mommy and Me with them up until, like, toddler, because it was, like, something to do and get them out the house. And they were, you know, before school age.
Adam Busby
But even still, like, at that age, like, Parker was still, like, super anxious with it and, like, always wanted you, like, in there with her and stuff like that. She was just going through that. That difficult time in her life where she was just, like, super anxious about everything. And so it was just like, it was tough, and we kind of focused in on her for quite a while. But honestly, over the last few years, like, we've noticed with her that, like, she's really, like, taken to it. She has, like, friends and stuff that are in gymnastics and tumbling and cheering and stuff like that. And so, like, she's taken upon herself to, like, learn stuff and, like, doing, like, back handsprings and like, all kind of stuff in the backyard and stuff. And she'll, like, always come and grab us and, like, hey, dad, come or mom, come. Come watch me do this. And it's just like, where the heck did you learn this? Like, who taught you this? And, like, how are you this good at it? And so what about six? How long have they been doing gymnastics now about six months.
Danielle Busby
No, they started in February.
Adam Busby
Oh.
Danielle Busby
Like, two.
Adam Busby
Two months ago.
Danielle Busby
So March, April, May. Three months.
Adam Busby
Three months. They've been doing. They've been doing gymnastics again for, like, three months. This is, like, mainly, like. I mean, Parker was the one, like, pushing. I want to do this again. And, you know, a few of the
Danielle Busby
other girls they've been talking about want to do it. Even Olivia have been talking about getting back into.
Adam Busby
But for them, it's just, like, super. Just casual.
Danielle Busby
Yeah.
Adam Busby
But Parker, you can tell, like, there's, like, a fire in her eyes about, like, being better and. And getting better and just wants to be better. And she's a perfectionist, too, at working on things. Like, it's. It's been cool to watch. And, like, the kid has, like, so much, like, poise and body control, and she's just such a little perfectionist. And so I'm just talented with a
Danielle Busby
lot of little things.
Adam Busby
Yeah. Came up for, like, they've already, like, progressed, like, multiple levels in gymnastics, and. And then she got invited to do this, like, little Funny story is competition.
Danielle Busby
It's. This is our world of, like, what people don't realize is that, like, I've got four girls in gymnastics, okay. Just as if you have four daughters. They're probably not all the same age, and typically they might move up at different times or be on different levels. Well, with the quints, it's like they all started in. In a beginner class because they had to, you know, get to learn all the foundation of gymnastics and stuff. Even though they can do more than a beginner, they had to start there. And I know that, like, Parker was ready to move up, but then they wanted everybody to stay on the same level and, like. Like, work it to where, Whatever, like, the back. Who. Whoever can make sure to get the back roll done or whatnot, and then get whatever they need to do to move to the next level. They were waiting for everybody to do that, and it was kind of frustrating. Parker, because she's like, they said that I'm ready, but now they want. They want to wait for the. The girls to finish or whatever, finish these levels. And I'm like. And me as mom, I'm like, okay, that's okay with me. Because it's easy for a schedule. You just all go at one time, you know? But then they all moved up to this level, and so they. They kind of know, like, the gymnastics place is, like, okay, like, it's the busby girl. So, like, they're. They're together in a sense. And so whenever it came time. So they'll be doing. I think it's this Saturday, they'll do, like, their parent, like, showcase. Like, they just show us what they've learned. But because they moved up to this next level or whatnot, intermediate. And then, like, it goes to, like, these competition levels or whatever. One of the girls, one of the coaches asked Ava at the time. Cause Ava was in her little group that day. Hey, does any. Do any of y' all want to participate in trying competition? And Ava was like, no. And. And we laugh because so Ava. Ava does not want to perform in front of anybody.
Adam Busby
Keep it casual.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, but they asked. They asked Ava, assuming it was across the board. And so Ava was telling me in the car that day after gymnastics was over, and they're like. I was like, okay, well. And they're like, yeah. They asked us if they wanted to do something. I was like, no, we're not interested. And I laughed. I was like, well, y' all are all doing the parent showcase. Like, you're gonna at least show us what you've been doing, because we don't have to compete and do all that. But I still want to see what you've been working on, even though we see it, like, every week. But Parker was like, well, that's not fair. I want to do it. And. And I was like, oh, well. I was like, here's one of those moments as like, a mama quintuplets. Is that you. It's. It's. And it just happens all the time, even to us. Like, they're lumped together, right? And is, like, assumed as a package deal. Package deal. But in these seasons and situations of, like, when you find, like, when one kid really enjoys and wants to pursue something, like, you have to let them try, right? And so I have to, like, separate that and say, okay, well, really, out of all of them, she's the one who literally, this is, like, her life these days. Like, all she wants to do is, like, be outside on the trampoline, the mat, the bar. She's got gymnastics all the time, and she practices it. She wants to perfect her skill that she has. And, you know, and you see that drive, and you're like, she really enjoys it, and it's fun to her. But, you know, you want to. You want to help her pursue that in a sense. But selfishly, as a parent, you're like, oh, Lord, how's this going to change up the schedule? Does this mean different timing? Does, like, what is all that mean? But I had to go tell him. I was like, I know. They asked Ava if anyone was interested.
Adam Busby
Yeah. Wrong one to ask.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. I was like, that was the wrong one to ask. Because out of all of them, she's the first one who's gonna say, no.
Adam Busby
Ava. You ask Ava. And she's like, no, you ask Hazel. She's like, I don't know. Yeah, whatever.
Danielle Busby
Olivia. Olivia would say, who else is doing it? So I had to tell her. I was like, hey. I was like, paul Park. I was like, barker's really interested in this. You know, I know it's probably too late. And it really was. We were past, like. Because they already started that, like, group level way later in the season. I mean, it was mid February when they started gymnastics, and people had been signed up since August, you know, and so, like, coming in, and I knew she could get to that level quick, but still had to let her abide by, like, the structure that they needed to and stuff. But so I was like, yeah, I was like, I know. It's. We lump sum them together. And just to be clear, like, she's the only one who's, like, really wanting to pursue and push forth through this. So, like, if she needs to do something different, she wants me to make sure that y' all know not to hold back on her. So if she needs it, if she needs to practice by herself on a different day, she is all about it. That's what she does. If Parker tells me, well. Well, I don't want to have to wait around, because if they don't want to do it, I'm like, that's fair, Parker. Like, it's fair. Like, I'll make sure that they know. And. Yeah, that's.
Adam Busby
That's a huge deal for Parker.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. And just. Just to see this child, like, just become so comfortable and, like, confident and, you know, she was still a little nervous that day. And you could see it because she really just learned she only had a couple. I mean, like, maybe six, seven weeks, you know? Cause then we had Easter in there, we out of town, spring break. Like, we didn't have sessions in, like, maybe six weeks to, like, practicing these things. And then she went to, like, one extra practice to, like, learn the floor better. But I don't know. Just really, really. I was already proud of her just for going out on her own and doing it, you know?
Adam Busby
Yeah. And then today's episode is sponsored by Poncho Outdoors. And you guys know that I'm always looking for clothes that can handle the Texas. He still good Enough that I can wear them pretty much anywhere. That's honestly why I've been wearing Poncho Outdoors so much lately. Their ultra light shirts have kind of become my everyday go to. They're super lightweight, breathable and stretchy. And when you live in Texas and you're constantly going from outside to inside and back outside again, that stuff actually matters. Whether I'm running around with the girls, heading to church, shooting content, or going out on a date night with Danielle, they just work.
Danielle Busby
And they actually look really good too. Like I love the shirt you have on right now.
Adam Busby
That's the thing. They just don't look like outdoor shirts. They're comfortable enough for all day wear, but still polished enough that you can wear them out to dinner and not feel underdressed. I've also been wearing their original shirts. This is actually one right here. They've got all the extra features, built in quick dry material, hidden pockets and, and even the built in lens cloth that's like right here. But it's perfect for everyday carry camera gear around. Go to poncho ponchooutdoors.com more than and enter your email for $10 off your first order plus free shipping. That's P O-N C H O outdoors.com more thanks Poncho for sponsoring this. This is like the very first go at like any sort of like competition and judging. I mean there's like they brought in, you know, outside judges and stuff to judge, you know, each of these competitions and stuff. And usually they go on Tuesdays and so like on Tuesdays we have to split. Danielle takes them to gymnastics. So I've never really seen Parker do any of this stuff other than just like practice stuff in the backyard because I'm always with Riley at tennis because it's like complete opposite end of town. And so we have to go our separate ways. And, and so we, it came to like the week before or the weekend before Parker had like the extra, that extra little practice or whatever. So I got to bring Parker on that Saturday morning to go and, and do like her. It was just two events that she was practicing, like the floor routine and the bar, the balance bar, balance beam, balance beam, whatever. I'm still not sure. About the lingo. But. And she did. I mean, I was super impressed. Like, she did really well. And so go into this competition, I was just wondering, like, how she was going to handle it and stuff. And just, you know, worrying about, like, past. Like, she absolutely killed it. She took all first. First and second place in every. Every event. And.
Danielle Busby
And she. You could tell, like, she. She gets very much like. Like just stern. Like, her face gets serious. Like she knows what she needs to do and she wants to do it so well and she wants to do it right. Which, you know, love that about her. But, you know, you also too. You can't be perfect at everything.
Adam Busby
Yeah.
Danielle Busby
You know, and you're not going to be perfect. And so it's just. It was just so good to see her. Like, I know she was, like, nervous, especially because the floor was like the new, like, the thing that she hadn't worked on the most and she had to learn that, like, little routine or whatever. And that was the first activity she did. And so she was really. You could see it on her face. She was nervous, but she was so, like, poised and just. And it was just. It means beautiful. She just. It has a natural just like, gift with that. And so I'm totally fine with her. I wish she never would have got out of dance, but she didn't want to continue dancing years ago and went into gymnast volleyball.
Adam Busby
Yeah.
Danielle Busby
But I just see her doing something more like. Like movement like this with her body because she's just very. She's beautiful at it, you know, and she does talk about, like, cheer and wanting to do, like, cheer in high school and like. What. What? Like that. You know, stuff like that. But I don't know right now I'm just.
Adam Busby
Yeah.
Danielle Busby
Enjoying for the moment of.
Adam Busby
Yeah. So that was definitely like a high. For the weekend, for sure. I mean, she, like, blew both of us away and just like, how well she did. I mean, just going into this, like, only been doing this for a few months now. And then just to take first and second place and like everything. We're like, man, yeah, she's. She's got it.
Danielle Busby
Yeah.
Adam Busby
She's definitely like shine bright that day. And so it was just super cool to see. And. And then other than that, like, the rest of the weekend, like, the girls had like a sleepover Saturday night, and so we got to go see. It was like a friend's house in the neighborhood, so they went to a sleepover. So we're like the birthday party. We're quintless for an entire night.
Danielle Busby
Yeah.
Adam Busby
And so me, Danielle and Blake went and saw the new Michael Jackson.
Danielle Busby
One thing my doctor has talked to me a lot about lately is that you can drink water all day long and still be dehydrated, especially as we get older. Stay busy, spend time outside or constantly on the the go with kids in sports. That's why I've been using Cure Hydration. It's a plant based electrolyte drink mix that's actually formulated using the same science behind IV hydration therapy. So it helps your body absorb and use the water you're drinking.
Adam Busby
And honestly, our girls love them too. They were actually asking about them just like last night. Daddy, can I take this to school? So the girls absolutely love the drinks. And so that's a definite plus. And we also keep stick packs with us for sports, being outdoors and travel, all of it.
Danielle Busby
And I love that there's no sugar added, no junk ingredients, and it actually tastes really good. My favorite is the lemonade and the berry pomegranate. It's just become an easy daily habit for me to help restore the minerals and electrolytes my body needs, especially during a busy week.
Adam Busby
Staying hydrated really is more than just drinking water.
Danielle Busby
Exactly. And Cure makes water actually work better for your body. So if you want to try it, use code more than for 20% off@cure hydration.com or find it at Amazon. Real ingredients, real hydration.
Adam Busby
Thanks Cure for sponsoring this episode.
Danielle Busby
And it was really good.
Adam Busby
I was blown away. That was like one of the most, like the best, like most well done movies like, like that I've ever seen.
Danielle Busby
Like a documentary type story, Life Story.
Adam Busby
Like his nephew played him in the movie and looked just like him, honestly, like me growing up in the 80s and knowing like how big Michael Jackson was. But I was like so sheltered. I didn't really, I mean, I knew Michael Jackson was like super famous and stuff, but like I was like sheltered from like listening to his music and stuff until like later on and. And so like I never really understood like everything like about like his story and like how big he was and stuff just because. Wow. We never like listened to that type of stuff. And so it was like super cool for me to like watch that and like, man, like so many times throughout that movie, like I, I got like emotional like watching it and just like seeing him as a kid and stuff and like how hard and abusive his dad was to him and stuff and,
Danielle Busby
well, and, and the fact that like, you know, he definitely was gifted with this singing and just.
Adam Busby
Yeah, I don't think we're all around. I don't think we'll ever have another musical artist like him.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, I mean, just. I think the ability that he has to come, like he had come up with the, the music, the tones, the. The movements, the beats, all that. It's like, I listened to that Kevin Federline book. It was like his tell all or whatever, which was very interesting but kind of really, really sad. But part of that he talked about because he was a. He was a dancer and he got put on one of Michael Jackson's like, dance movies or whatever. Dance, what do they call it? Music videos. And he just talked about, like it was something like he went in for an audition or went in for like, he made the cut or whatever. He went in for the first practice and Michael wasn't even like in that room and never showed his face or whatever. But, like, they were all doing like, their first, like, set and Michael had said something like, stop. Because he heard. He heard their feet and somebody was off, like, out of all the dancers. And it was just. It's just he. And he talked about like, how much of a musical talent he was with just like all those things. And so, I don't know, I thought it was a really good. I think there's going to be another one. I mean. Yeah, Blake said there's going to be another one. I was like, okay, how do you know that? But it kind of alludes to it, like, at the end of it. But it just was really, really good.
Adam Busby
Yeah, it's definitely one that you want to see in the theater because, like, the, the music and the concerts and stuff, it was like super immersive and just like. Yeah, I mean, you kind of want that theater experience of just like the music and the, you know, just. You just feel immersed there and you feel like part of a concert. It was just crazy because, like, his most popular songs, you know, they. Dang there. Did the entire set, the entire song. Like you were in a concert in the movie. Yeah, like they played the full song and performance and stuff. It was. It was super cool. Felt like you were there. Yeah. I mean, it just shows. They, they portrayed very well just like how, like, why he never really grew up, why he became the way he became. Just because he never had a childhood. He was always, you know, this star from super early age and, you know, just how he couldn't fit in with, like, real normal kids because, you know, he would try to go make friends or go play with people and like, they. All they want to do is just Take photos of me and just, like, they. They don't treat me like just a normal kid.
Danielle Busby
I know. That part made me tear up. Yeah, that was really sad.
Adam Busby
And. But it all, like, it really all makes sense, you know, and, like, you. You hear all the things that, you know, all the controversial stuff about, like, the stuff that went on in Neverland Ranch and all that kind of. Which the movie doesn't go into that yet, but you go back and you watch all those interviews with, like, Macaulay Culkin and, like, all these child stars that used to, you know, go and frequent Neverland Ranch and stuff, and all the allegations and stuff, and. But every single one of those kids, like, flat out denied, like, no, Michael never did anything. It was like, kind of the parents that were pushing to just get money out of him, but they were like, no, he just treated us like we were friends and. Because I truly felt like those are the only kids that he could relate to because, like, there are these, like, Macaulay Culkin. It was, like, huge child star that, you know, kind of couldn't hang out with normal kids either, because, like, he was such a big star in all those movies at early age. And so, like, Michael related to him so well. And, you know, and just going back of, like, you know, all the animals and the monkey and the giraffes and stuff, he, like, he didn't see him as, like, pets. He saw him as friends because he didn't have. Have any friends.
Danielle Busby
Yeah.
Adam Busby
And it was just like, those things that he could, like, communicate with and talk to and. But it was. It was just super well done.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. So it's a good time. The movie. And then. Yeah. Woke up the next day and it was Mother's Day.
Adam Busby
And like, normally for Mother's Day, we, like, we'll do, like, a big breakfast or breakfast in bed and, like, I'll do, like, French toast and all this kind of stuff. But none of the girls were home.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. We debated on letting them spend the night because it was Mother's Day. And I thought, well, I guess we just get them in the morning anyway. But actually, I actually was probably the laziest of laziest Mother's Day has ever been. I literally went from PJs, and then later that afternoon, like, I went on, like, a walk or whatever and then showered and went back into PJs. Clean pjs. I mean, I. It was great. It's like, I don't like Mother's Day where, like, it's like a. It's like two ways. It's like, yeah, I'd love to get, like, spa treated like all these, like. Like, celebrated this, that, and the other. But also, I'm like, I don't want to not be with my kids because, yeah, you know, it's just weird.
Adam Busby
So, yeah, you, like, you're being celebrated as mom, but yet you don't want
Danielle Busby
to celebrate it with, like, I. I get it, and I'm not. And I'm not dogging on anyone who does this type of Mother's Day. Like, you do however you feel you want to celebrate Mother's Day. But my head's always been. I feel so thankful that I get to actually celebrate this day. That's something that I prayed for for so long, and even to this day, you know, I've been a mom for Blake's 15, so 15 years, and I still want to be with them. I just don't want any responsibilities that day. So I want to do all the things, but I want everybody to go to Adam and not ask anything of me that day. I want to, like, be with them. I don't want to break up fights. I just don't want to handle the. The responsibilities, but I want to be with them. So I felt like it was a great day. Like, you know, chilled in bed for a while. Adam made, like, amazing dinner, which I guess still can't stop thinking about those potatoes. Like, and you've made them before, but they were so good this time. He made, like, me some, like, chicken shish kebabs and pecan pecania. Almost said picante picanha or whatever. It was just really good. And so those. Those are the little things to me that mean the most. Just, like, when we all sat down at the table together. And, like, that's just what I love the most, is just those things. Like, just don't fight or yell or want me to break up anything, because I know it'll just all happen tomorrow.
Adam Busby
It was funny. Like, I was in the middle. I was just wrapping up cooking. Like, I tried to call my mom earlier in the day, and she didn't answer. I was like, oh, she's probably just at having lunch with Kayla and them because they live right down the street, and. And so I was like, well, I'll just call back later. And then I was, like, wrapping up dinner. So called mom, and, like, her and dad are on the phone, and so I just have my headphones in while I'm, like, finishing up dinner, and she's like, well, what are y' all doing for dinner? Like, oh, great, great. So I like started like rattling off like everything that I was cooking and what we were having.
Danielle Busby
And she's like, thanks for the invite.
Adam Busby
Yeah. She's like, her and dad are on speakerphone and she's like, well, dang, he sure showed you up to Dad. I was like, great.
Danielle Busby
Dang it.
Adam Busby
Sorry, dad. But yeah, we did. I did like, these roasted potatoes. So like I, I boiled the potatoes with salt and for not as long as I would normally do, like mashed potatoes, so they could kind of stay, keep their shape. Then I let them cool off, slice them, and then I put like a sheet pan down with like seasoning and butter.
Danielle Busby
And.
Adam Busby
And I make this mixture with like, like melted butter seasonings and like parmesan, like grated parmesan cheese. And I like do it real thin over a sheet pan. And then I lay the halved potato potatoes over the top of them. And then I put them in the oven and then bake them at like 400 degrees until they just crispy. Like they get crispy and brown.
Danielle Busby
It's just so good.
Adam Busby
And then did that and then the, the shishka, the chicken, shish kebabs, because Danielle usually prefers chicken. And then. And then I roasted a big picanha pound for pound. That's the best thing to cook, like, as far as, like for a big family because you can get it cheap. And. And I just reverse sear it. So I just throw it in the smoker for an hour and gets up to temperature, let it rest for a little bit and then throw it on and just sear it and. And then it's good to go. And it can feed the whole family for like two nights, really. And so did that. And then cooked two brands.
Danielle Busby
The dessert. Yeah.
Adam Busby
And ice cream. And then chocolate covered strawberries with like, like hot fudge.
Danielle Busby
Yeah.
Adam Busby
And that spoke my love when he
Danielle Busby
was chocolate on chocolate, on chocolate, on chocolate.
Adam Busby
Daniel loves. Daniel likes chocolate everything. So I did brownies with chocolate ice cream, chocolate hot fudge, and then like chocolate covered strawberries.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. Because my favorite ice cream is like bluebell used to have that triple chocolate.
Adam Busby
Yeah.
Danielle Busby
And they only sell. They don't sell it anymore. You can only get it in like the Creamery, but.
Adam Busby
Or at like, like Blue Bell.
Danielle Busby
Yeah.
Adam Busby
Like scoop shop shops.
Danielle Busby
Yeah.
Adam Busby
Yeah.
Danielle Busby
But it was my triple chocolate. You got something crunchy in there. No, brownie the ice creams, the chocolate and then like chocolate syrup, whatever. But I always love if we go to like those like marble slab or if I go to a place like where you make your ice cream. I always put strawberries in my ice cream. I just feel like I don't know. So it was like, I was like, this is. This is amazing. I was so full. I was so full. But it was so good. So you did good. You didn't get buzz.
Adam Busby
Yeah. I felt like I had to go, like, a little bit more overboard because I didn't do breakfast that day.
Danielle Busby
And it feel weird, but I kind of like that because then the kitchen, you know, you know how I am with a mess and you in the kitchen is messy.
Adam Busby
Yeah. Because it was just a lot of moving parts, a lot of different things.
Danielle Busby
Anyway, so let's get on to a topic today. Just kind of fun one. Just going to go through some questions that people probably assume they know, and we're going to answer these who's more likely to type questions. So, for instance, you might think that you know something about us like this. Who spends more money? And if you watched outdaughtered, you'd probably say.
Adam Busby
And probably say me.
Danielle Busby
And you'd be right. Because you spend more money.
Adam Busby
I mean, all the stuff I buy are like, big, big ticket items that
Danielle Busby
are like, no, just in general. You've always been the spender. Take it back.
Adam Busby
Related.
Danielle Busby
Take it back. You've always been the spender.
Adam Busby
I just have the luxury.
Danielle Busby
If I asked you how much something was and you are the person that says, I don't know of things, that you're the spender.
Adam Busby
Make money for us is also my hobby. And so, like, I get to spend money on, like, oh, your shoe game is camera gear and stuff. I don't really buy shoes as much anymore.
Danielle Busby
Not as much, but you still do. But did you hear me when I said, if you're the person in the relationship that answers I don't know to how much something is, you're the spender in the family, or you start conversations, I don't know.
Adam Busby
Just so we can avoid that.
Danielle Busby
No. Or Adam's. Thing is, I went and got. I saved like, $300. I'm like, well, how much was it? I saved $300. Like, well, it was a big ticket item. Because you saved 300.
Adam Busby
Girl math. Yeah, I was trying to do girl math on you.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. I feel like spending. For me, when I'm spending, it's rarely, rarely for myself. You don't like, I. I might spin, but it's for the family. Or I'm always having to get something for the girls. Or like, those things, like, you might see me as spinning or like, Going to Target or whatever. Like, I know not every Target time is, like, needed, but, like, a lot of times, I. I rarely buy things.
Adam Busby
But you've also gotten into, like, estate sales.
Danielle Busby
I know. And I just been. I was literally thinking always. I haven't been in estate sale in probably, like, five weeks. And it's really gets on my nerves
Adam Busby
because I was like, why. Why are you just going and buying stuff that people are trying to throw away?
Danielle Busby
It's annoying. I don't understand why you buy so many shoes.
Adam Busby
It annoys them.
Danielle Busby
You can only wear one at a time.
Adam Busby
Out of me. Like, these people are just trying to get rid of crap, and you're going and buying it, and it's just, like, old stuff that nobody wants.
Danielle Busby
I want it, like, now.
Adam Busby
We just have, like, more. We actually got an argument.
Danielle Busby
We actually got an argument about this because I'm like, why are you so mad about something that brings me joy?
Adam Busby
What?
Danielle Busby
I'm like, I don't. I don't necessarily like your hobbies.
Adam Busby
The one time that she brought me to, like, because she needed me to come pick up these, like, cabinets.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. And I'm gonna use them.
Adam Busby
And immediately I walk in and I look at them, I'm like, babe, I really don't want to buy these because they're just like. They're like, yeah, you can go to estate sales, and people are getting rid of, like. Like, really nice, like, antique furniture that are, like, hardwood. Like, stuff you can't find anymore. Like, most furniture stores you go to, like, you're gonna be paying, like, a lot of money if you find something that's, like, all really, like, hardwood. No, like, press board or anything like that.
Danielle Busby
Whatever you love.
Adam Busby
So, like, I walk in and I see these, and I'm like, babe.
Danielle Busby
And they're sitting.
Adam Busby
They're sitting in a garage. And, like, I don't like these. These are just. These are press board. And I guarantee they have issues. And sure enough, like, whenever I started pulling them away from the wall, they were just, like, bending and, like. Like, babe, if I pulled this hard enough, this whole thing would fall apart. She's like, I want them. I'm like, I don't want to bring this home. And I said, because they were, like, crumbling. Like, the backs of them are, like, crumbling.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. And I was going to DIY them, so it didn't matter.
Adam Busby
But it. Yeah, but even if you can't put lipstick on a pig, like, it's. You're not gonna. It's not gonna hold because you paint it. It's not gonna make it hold together.
Danielle Busby
I know I wasn't lipstick on a pig one. I've never even heard that statement before. I don't even know what that means. Why can't you put lipstick on a pig?
Adam Busby
Like something that's like ugly and stinky and like, just putting lipstick on it isn't going to make it better. Just like put slapping it. Slapping a coat of paint on a piece of particle board furniture.
Danielle Busby
It's stuff to repair and fix.
Adam Busby
It's not going to repair it.
Danielle Busby
Yes, it will.
Adam Busby
I'm gonna repair that.
Danielle Busby
Oh, I think you just gave me a challenge and I'm going to show you that it's going to get repaired. Yeah, it is. By the way, you do love my estate sale shopping because however, what do you say now? Oh, can you look for it? Blah, blah, blah.
Adam Busby
Yeah, because like, I do photo shoots for, like, justifiable and so like, I need.
Danielle Busby
So now you want me to estate so shop for you.
Adam Busby
I went to Austin with like, this really, like, famous photographer that does like a lot of huge, like cooking and outdoor brands and stuff like that. And like went to his studio and he had this massive room in his studio that's like full of just like, like, just textures, like, cut like old, like antique cutting boards and like surfaces and plates and. And all kind of and different utensils and stuff. I'm like, look for stuff like that that, you know, just may have like, character to it, which I haven't seen you come home with anything like that yet.
Danielle Busby
But because I'm not looking like, that would be like me telling you, go play golf. But tell me, make sure to let me know what everybody's wearing for golf at the golf course. Like, I want to know brands. I wonder what shoes they're wearing. Do they have cute socks on? That would be like me telling you that you don't care. See what I'm saying? Like, you go out to play golf to have joy, like, have fun, whatever. And like, I love that for you. I want you to do that. But when it comes to me going to say, so shopping, you want to bash it because it's stupid to you.
Adam Busby
Well, like, how many teapots does somebody need?
Danielle Busby
A lot. I got six girls.
Adam Busby
Every time you come home, like, some random ugly teapot, I'm like, what are we gonna do with all these?
Danielle Busby
I am collecting so that one day
Adam Busby
there's nowhere to put them. We can I like all over the kitchen table.
Danielle Busby
1. There's not one teapot. Do you know what a teapot Is a teapot is like what you put tea and you pour. Those are trinket boxes and sugar boxes. Anyway. Cream and sugar. I've been looking because I did not receive things like this when I was, you know, getting married and younger. Didn't care about things. But, like, I love that. My girls love to go to estate sales and stuff. And I don't have six things of something that I can pass down to them one day. And so that's my idea is that I go look for, like, when I found that china set for Blake, I was like, this is. This is a steal right here. It's complete set. Blah, blah, blah. She loves it. We've seen this one together. It's now on clearance, plus additional 20 off. I'm getting this because this is going to be, like, something I can heirloom to her. See, I don't just buy junk that people are trying to get rid of. And so fun. So don't take the joy away from me.
Adam Busby
But I also see, like, we're. We. We're living. We're leasing this house right now. We're already kind of busting out the seams. We have two storage units full of stuff. And then you keep coming home with more stuff that we have nowhere to put it.
Danielle Busby
Like, so little besides the cabinet.
Adam Busby
Like, buying more stuff to go put in storage that we're paying a fortune for every month in storage units.
Danielle Busby
I haven't been to a sales shop in which I'll probably go this week. Just while you're talking about it. All right, let's change the subject. This is a fun one. Who takes longer to get ready?
Adam Busby
You.
Danielle Busby
No.
Adam Busby
100% you. Yes. Yes. Anytime.
Danielle Busby
I didn't say anytime.
Adam Busby
I'm not having a wait on Danielle. I'm always early.
Danielle Busby
You didn't listen to the question. I didn't say.
Adam Busby
But if I have to wait on Danielle, we're sitting out in the car waiting 10 minutes.
Danielle Busby
No. Every Sunday morning on Blake.
Adam Busby
No, it's usually you and Blake.
Danielle Busby
Well, and a lot of every Sunday
Adam Busby
morning, it's me and the quints sitting in the van just waiting.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, I know. Because a lot of that time when I'm. The question is, like, who takes longer to get ready? It's not about, how long did it take you to get in the car? I'm saying, who takes longer to get ready? That is You.
Adam Busby
No.
Danielle Busby
Yes. Because I already know what I want to.
Adam Busby
Absolutely crazy.
Danielle Busby
When you jump. When you jump in the shower to get out the shower, half the time
Adam Busby
I don't Even start getting ready until, like, you're already out of the shower and putting and putting on makeup.
Danielle Busby
Because I'm like, you could have helped do all this other stuff with the girls. And then I'm curling their hair in and out of these things, and then I have to get ready.
Adam Busby
You're out of your mind. Then I'm in and out of the shower, put my clothes on, get dressed to pick a fight, and I'm sitting on the couch just waiting for Danielle,
Danielle Busby
and I'm so annoyed by that.
Adam Busby
And you're still doing makeup.
Danielle Busby
And you know what I see? You know what I see? You're sitting on the couch doing nothing when you could go pick up the kitchen because the kitchen still has breakfast
Adam Busby
stuff out of it because we were supposed to leave five minutes ago.
Danielle Busby
But you still could be proactive and do things.
Adam Busby
I, I. You're out of your mind. If you think that I take longer to get ready, you're out of your mind.
Danielle Busby
Yes, I think I could jump in the shower and be ready in 20 minutes.
Adam Busby
Not a chance.
Danielle Busby
I didn't say that's every day, but could I? Absolutely. That's what I did today.
Adam Busby
Our friends, whenever it's me and Danielle going to meet them somewhere, like, Danielle has zero idea how long it takes her to get ready.
Danielle Busby
It's not true. Why don't I ask that question and
Adam Busby
all your friends know it, too.
Danielle Busby
Who's the first to apologize? I'd say we're just both stubborn.
Adam Busby
I would say it's probably me every time. You don't apologize very much.
Danielle Busby
Neither do you. So I said, we're both.
Adam Busby
I'm trying to think of a time that you've ever apologized to me.
Danielle Busby
Oh, that's rude. I just did in the car yesterday.
Adam Busby
What?
Danielle Busby
When you said, that's not how you perceived that conversation we had, and I said, I'm sorry. That wasn't my intention.
Adam Busby
Sorry you felt that way.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, I'm sorry.
Adam Busby
Sorry you took it that way. It's not an apology.
Danielle Busby
I'm sorry you received it that way. That's not how I sent the message. That wasn't my intentions. Skip through some of these. Who's the stricter parent?
Adam Busby
I don't know. That's a tough one because we're both, like, at different moments. Like yesterday, I had to pull. I'm not going to go into details about it, but I had to drop the hammer on the coins yesterday while you were getting ready because I was already ready and completely done.
Danielle Busby
That's because. No, that's because Yesterday I went to the gym. I was. Went to Costco on a freaking Monday. I hated it. Hate going to Costco on a Monday or a Sunday. And then I came home, and the goal of yesterday was to clean our room with all your clothes, pick them
Adam Busby
up, nowhere to put them. Because, like, we come from a house where each of us had our own closet to this house where that's not the excuse. One closet.
Danielle Busby
Why do you need your letterman jacket in this house?
Adam Busby
I know, but it all got brought over here. But it's also packed up with, like, other, like, winter clothes and stuff. And so it's just like. Like I've been pulling out of that bag. But yeah, I mean, I'd never wear my letterman jacket, but that's not something I want to throw away either. And so it's just like, here.
Danielle Busby
Just don't understand why they even came to this house.
Adam Busby
It needs to go to storage.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, so that was what I was doing.
Adam Busby
Like, a lot of. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff. There's a lot of stuff that we just need to, like, okay, this can just go to storage. But a lot of stuff just got moved here, and then now it's just, like, kind of sitting around.
Danielle Busby
I wouldn't say a lot of stuff. A lot of your stuff did because you don't like to part ways with not knowing something's.
Adam Busby
Well, stuff like that out everywhere. I mean, what. What do you even do with an old letter jacket? Like, I'm gonna wear it, but I'm not gonna give it away because it's like my old school and my name on it and stuff. And, like, what do you. What do you even do with, like, an old letter jacket?
Danielle Busby
I don't know.
Adam Busby
You just throw them away.
Danielle Busby
No, you don't throw them away, but you just haven't get rid of it.
Adam Busby
When am I ever gonna wear that?
Danielle Busby
I don't know.
Adam Busby
It's ugly. Purple and yellow.
Danielle Busby
It's. It actually looks orange now. It's so old.
Adam Busby
It's like orange and purple, like my school colors. I mean, L.A. so, like, purple and gold. Purple jacket with, like, gold sleeves, which
Danielle Busby
are pretty much orangey. Now they look orange.
Adam Busby
But, like, when am I ever gonna wear that and when?
Danielle Busby
I don't know. Why is it in the rental house?
Adam Busby
Reason to ever wear an old letter jacket.
Danielle Busby
It just needs to be in a box.
Adam Busby
Like, what man is gonna wear their old letter jacket?
Danielle Busby
I mean, I can see, like, seasons or maybe we should have a. A themed party just so we can.
Adam Busby
That's the only Reason I could ever think of ever wearing that, if it's like a theme party, like, where you're old, blah, blah, blah.
Danielle Busby
Anyway, so I did that to. Then we had a dinner last night when. Then he went and got the quint because I was in the middle of all his clothes.
Adam Busby
And I think we're going to talk about what we talked about at dinner next week on next week's podcast, because it might be the craziest thing that we've ever attempted to do.
Danielle Busby
Oh, okay. I'm trying to think, what was that?
Adam Busby
But what was that? What we're gonna do in the next week and a half.
Danielle Busby
Oh. Oh, yeah. That's fun. So then I went and got. Blake came back, and I was, like, still trying to finish stuff in the room, and then I jumped in the shower, and I was like, hey, let's go early. Let's go early. 30 minutes before dinner started just so we can have, like, YOLO time. And that's when I apologized to you in the car after you shared that you. You received my messaging differently. Okay, let's see who caves first when the kids ask for something. Don't even. Yeah, I'm about to say, don't even
Adam Busby
act like, I mean, I'm dad in a house full of girls. Like, what dad isn't going to cave to a bunch of little girls asking me for something? I mean, you know, two. Maybe different. It was a bunch of boys, but, like, I have six girls asking me for something or begging me or I'm gonna melt every time.
Danielle Busby
We don't really have homework. I'm gonna skip that one who gets overwhelmed by the house.
Adam Busby
Yeah.
Danielle Busby
If there's.
Adam Busby
I get annoyed, like, if we have people coming over. But, like, any other time, like, I try not to just, like, worry about it just because it's just, like, it.
Danielle Busby
I need you to worry about it. I need you to feel the annoyance
Adam Busby
that the only time I ever get annoyed is, like, with, like, a mess or clutter is I know people are coming over. And then I'm like, okay, let's.
Danielle Busby
I'm coming over every day.
Adam Busby
Address this.
Danielle Busby
I'm coming over every day in this house. I need you to care about that. But it. It just.
Adam Busby
Because, like, what happened yesterday is, like, the house got cleaned while the kids were at school, and then the second they come home, all their friends come over from down the street and they decide, hey, let's play hide and go seek upstairs. And, like, every storage container and bin and it gets turned upside down, and I flipped my lid because I walk in and look at the Quint's room, and there's just, like, stuff everywhere. They just decided, hey, let's do this. Now we have a clean room. Let's just turn everything upside down.
Danielle Busby
Listen, I will still take that over the clean room because I want would rather friends coming over here. Okay. So I will receive that. I just don't. I just don't want to see the stupid best not get picked up, like, your mess. Like, every morning. Every morning when you take your packet thing and you pour it in, Then you leave the trash on the counter next to that back. Every single morning. I'm like, one day, this man is gonna throw it away.
Adam Busby
I get to it eventually after I get back from the gym.
Danielle Busby
No. Are you open. What's my. What's the number one thing I hate? So you open a package on the counter to see what's in it, and then that's all you care. You're like, oh, cool, this was in it. And you leave the open. You leave the box, the thing there that wasn't yours, and then the trash next out. It was packaged. It's all right there. I'm like, you wonder why?
Adam Busby
Yeah, because I can't. The package came in yesterday with my name on it. But it was, like, something that Blake ordered on Amazon or something.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, some hair oil. But it's just those things, like, you hate surprises, so you always want to know what's in something. We can literally be, like, in the middle of a movie, and, like, the doorbell ring is, like, an Amazon package. And, like, Adam knows it's not for him. He didn't order it, whatever. But something's there. He's like, I gotta go get into what's in it. Like, every time. It doesn't matter. Does not matter. And you'll open it. You'll literally just open it and just, like, leave it there. It's like, oh, my gosh. This could have waited to the end of the movie. Or, like, whatever. Who worries more?
Adam Busby
Probably me.
Danielle Busby
Absolutely. I don't like to worry. I don't like. I don't like worrying. I feel like it just. It brings your level of, like, today. Whatever's today down when you worry, because you're more than likely worrying about things that are not today.
Adam Busby
Yeah, I mean, but I mean, some stuff, like, you can kind of control or fix or whatever.
Danielle Busby
But I feel like the older you get, you're. Because you used to not well. I think you've always definitely been, like, the more, like, anxious worrier.
Adam Busby
Well, usually whenever I Worry. I just get quiet.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, you worry a lot.
Adam Busby
I'm constantly in a state of worry as a dad with six kids.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, but that's not good. You can't live like that. Who more likely to remind the family to slow down?
Adam Busby
Probably me.
Danielle Busby
Really? And why family? Not me. I feel like you might be that person to tell me to stop or whatever. Stop trying to find something to something to something. Something to do or something. As far as like the family, I don't know. I feel like. I feel like I'm. I'm in my way of saying slow down. I would. To you, like, meaning to the family would be me saying, like, absorbing. Absorb the moments, like, be present. Slow down. Like for today. So when you say you, what does that mean?
Adam Busby
All right. I like, I'm. I'm constantly just telling you to slow down because you're constantly.
Danielle Busby
Yeah, I'm saying. But that's not the family I'm talking about.
Adam Busby
That's just what I think about.
Danielle Busby
And then when I slow down, you're like, what's wrong?
Adam Busby
Well, because usually whenever I'm telling you to, like, slow down, like, quit. Quit. Just finding something to do. We have a lot of other stuff that need to be done. But you find other things to do that fill that time to you.
Danielle Busby
It might feel that way, but in reality, these things were already going on in my head since last week. There you go. You've learned a little bit more about me and Adam.
Adam Busby
I don't think anybody learned anything they didn't know.
Danielle Busby
You don't think.
Adam Busby
I don't know. Most people that probably let us know in the comments, watch most of our stuff probably knew all that.
Danielle Busby
Yeah. But I will say, like different seasons.
Adam Busby
I don't think anything was very eye opening.
Danielle Busby
No. I feel like when I was like, could be pre. Pre fruit and like the notes and stuff, I'm like, oh, yeah. People probably see that me versus Adam or like things like that. I don't know. But I don't know. Next time we do something like this, it might be different questions. Because life is ever changing and so are we.
Adam Busby
Yeah.
Danielle Busby
But anyways, this is a fun one. It's time to go get kids.
Adam Busby
Yep.
Danielle Busby
So you got a little catch up life update, all the things and then a fun little this or that. You or me? I'm trying to think of what it was called.
Adam Busby
All right, thank you.
Danielle Busby
There you go.
