B
Welcome to Bonus Mugglecast for the month of September and given that we all just went back to Hogwarts it's back to Hogwarts season. Figured we could have a little bit of fun. And you know what? I'm just not happy with the houses. I think it's time that we give a makeover to Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff and. And add a fifth house while we're at it.
E
Oh, I was wondering if you wanted to add five houses for a total of nine houses, but whichever.
B
That's too much stress on the sorting hat.
E
Oh, oh, think of the hat.
B
I'm thinking of its mental health.
E
Yeah, yeah, the hat's old. It's like I don't have patience for more than five. All right, I'll go first. So for me, when I started thinking of the house that I wanted at Hogwarts, I was just thinking of the house I want to be at a Hogwarts. Like, what best represents me. Forget putting myself into an existing house. Let me create my own. So I'm calling my house Luminara and it's starts from Lumen. L U M E N meaning light. And my house is formed around clarity, wisdom, thinking ahead. I'm not saying I'm a genius. I'm just looking for like an enlightened house, like a experience. Huh. Own it.
D
Said it's okay. Own it.
E
Okay. I'm a genius. So house colors for my house, dark green, because I want to pay respect to my Slytherin roots. And a sky blue for the sky is the limit. I also just love a blue green combo. I think those colors would really pop on a crest. House values. I was just sort of getting at this. It's got some Ravenclaw asset aspects. It's intelligence, thoughtfulness, success through integrity, forward thinking, and a love language I love is acts of service. So if you're in this house, this is one of your top love languages. Just doing things for other people.
B
Got a volunteer.
E
Volunteering. It could be volunteering. It could be taking a friend to the airport. It could be taking care of their dogs, you know, whatever. It could be, I don't know, tossing a newspaper. It could be anything.
A
I love this. Acts of service.
C
That's a big offer. I feel like I've heard from someone before that they think that it might be a bit of a. Bit of an ask for friends to ask you to take them to the airport.
E
But that wasn't me. I didn't see that.
A
Did you hear that from being on the other end of the phone, Laura, when you were stuck stranded somewhere near mcarra? Maybe.
C
Maybe I'M misapplying this. I feel like we talked about this on our other show. Yeah, we talked about doing favors for people.
E
I can say I would love to take people to the airport.
C
Okay, I see how you Laura.
E
Yeah. Take an Uber. So my crest I'm going to the the sigil is a silver owl perched on a scroll with wings outstretched and I want blue and green flames behind it paying tribute to the colors of course the head of house Professor Sinistra the astronomy professor for her out of this world thinking she looks to the stars she she studies the galaxies the house entrance is located through a hidden door in the Hogwarts Gardens and you have to use the Aguamenti charm to to send exactly two drops of water onto a very specific flower and when you do that's when the door opens up and the flower does rotate seasonally. You'll receive a memo about which new yeah for security purposes there's no security nightmares in this house. And then once you go in you walk into a common room that is enchanted to look like you're actually outside. So this is a very earthy common room. You might feel like you're camping almost but you're protected from the elements. The temperature's just right, there's no rain, there's no snow. You can see it outside of your snow globe but you're totally comfortable and safe within. And then I answered how what's guarding the entrance and then as for a house ghost the final question in this game we tried to get a house ghost but the Hogwarts house ghosts actually prefer to roam around inside the castle and none of them want to want to be outside to gain access to the common room which I think is very rude of them but it's fine. So no house ghost.
B
What Divas.
C
Wow Andrew.
A
I gotta say this house feels like the best parts of some of Hogwarts own houses that I definitely love the earthen nature to it. I love also that there's a degree of caring and chivalry to it. Yeah this is good stuff.
E
On a related note I do just feel like anybody could kind of be in any Hogwarts house to be honest with you. Maybe that's my hot take or unpopular opinion but everybody's got some elements in each house I feel right well sometimes.
C
We sort too young I've always said that.
B
How about you Eric?
A
Okay well I came up with a less Latin cool sounding name as Andrew but I like it and I hope it will catch on. My Hogwarts house is named Be Kindicus and I can tell what the values are.
D
So good.
A
The house colors are teal and coral. Watch this space. Values are empathy, philosophy and imagination. So that's kind of a. I feel like a pretty interesting combination. The house Sigil is a cat. I'm a cat person and I really wanted a Hogwarts house that could really speak to that aspect of me. And so also it fits with the values of philosophy and imagination because the cat and curiosity is a well known phrase. Also here's something you can learn today if you're listening to bonus Mugglecast. The phrase curiosity killed the cat is only half the sentence. The other half is satisfaction brought it back. Oh, don't know if you knew that. So pursuit of knowledge but not like in a boring stodgy ravenclaw way but like in a fun imagination. What could be the bounds of the universe kind of a way. So as to where it could be located. If I can't have the room of a requirement, I want it to be next to the room of Requirement where it's like built from the same magic. Maybe they made two rooms. But maybe in fact they were forming this house common room and they came up with so many good ideas they couldn't fit all into one room. So they were literally like we're going to build a room that has all the stuff we didn't fit in our common room. So it's magic and it moves and it grows and it changes and stuff. But maybe, you know, the room of Requirement is the perfected version that's right next door to that is kind of what I thought for being next to it. And as for the entrance, this is kind of fun. So there's a door knocker. I was really thinking of Labyrinth when I saw this with the door knocker characters.
E
Yeah, yeah.
A
And they're kind of sassy old men. But actually because of the house value of empathy, I think that one would gain access to the room by answering a Dear Abby style message which will be randomized so that one of the door knockers, you'll walk up to it and it'll say Dear Abby I or you know, they'll know your name, let's say. And you have to give your advice. You actually have to be, you know, empathize. You have to put yourself in the situation of the, of the writer and give your advice. Doesn't even need to really be good advice but you need to think about it and care about giving your reply. Here's the fun thing about this. And then you know, you're allowed in the common room any anytime you just so there's probably a line at meal times. Anyway, on Fridays, instead of a Dear Abby column, it becomes a Reddit style Aita thread. Or am I the asshole? Where you know, just for Fun Fridays. Fun quirky Fridays. So you have to decide whether the door knocker or OP is the asshole or not. I had a lot of fun thinking about that. And the house ghost is also a cat who for no reason I've named Mirabel and it's a ghost cat. So I also put here it cuddles you, but you wouldn't like it because it's cold.
C
That's funny. I mean, does the cat also do other cat like things like knock your pencil case off the edge of a table or like kick a glass of water on the floor?
D
Of course it does.
A
It's a cat, except it's invisible sometimes so you can't see it when it does this.
D
That cat's living its best life.
A
Mischievous, mischievous cat.
C
Got it.
A
So be kind to kiss its own name. What's that name? The mission statement. Coca Cola for the big, for the.
C
Small, the short and the tall. Peacemakers.
D
Risk takers for the optimists, pessimists for long distance love for introverts and extroverts.
C
The thinkers and the doers for old friends and new Coca Cola for everyone. Pick up some Coca Cola at a store near you.

So I decided to come up with a house that really fits the variety of like life experiences I have between being a podcaster, being someone who exists in this society with everything going on in it as well as someone who is a corporate girly during the daytime. And I feel like this is something that a lot of us can relate to. A lot of people have podcasts and side hustles on the side and then they have that day job where they have to like put up with the BS to fund their different hobbies. So what I want to do is launch House Veritas. Coming from the Latin Veritas, which stands for truth, the house colors would be charcoal gray and rose gold. This is what I would refer to as burnout chic because that is definitely a feeling that I have quite a bit when you mix all of these different realities together in the day to day. And I think a lot of people could relate to it. The house values, it's kind of a fun mixture. It's honesty, wit, empathy and the courage to call out bs. Whether it's magical or school related or corporate. That's all gonna be very important when we get to a little later in this description because yeah, it's important to be empathetic, but you have to know how to walk the line sometimes and know when to pick the strategic moment. Give some real talk, honestly. So the house sigil. I like how a couple of us are using owls. Mine would also be an owl. My owl would have one arched eyebrow to single wisdom with a side of skepticism. And Andrew, even though you probably wouldn't want to take me to the airport, I am going to make you my head of house. I think.
E
What?
C
You're a natural leader.
E
Aww.
C
Think about it. I think you belong here and you are someone who is. You keep it real.
E
But apparently I don't lead you to the airport according to you.
A
Well, you're too busy. You got a house to lead at August.
C
Yeah, exactly.
E
That's gonna be my new excuse when I don't want to do anything.
D
Sorry.
A
I have my house to look after.
C
So where in Hogwarts would my house be located? I'm imagining like a co working place. Like a cozy little co working place with overstuffed couches wedged between the library and the kitchens. It's like the best of both worlds because you have access to every piece of literature that you would want for entertainment or for research. But then you also have unfettered access to snacks. So I mean that's really where I would see myself. Honestly, based on like Hogwarts houses and their common rooms and locations, I should be a Hufflepuff just based on the proximity of the kitchen. So I wanted to steal that for this so now this is where the real talk comes in. The importance of being able to, you know, have the courage to call out nonsense. Right. And to, like, use that power for good. Like, if you're gonna be a Karen, like, use. Use those powers for good.
A
So.
C
The guard of my house would be a sassy gargoyle who only opens up if you share some tea or gossip about somebody else. And this is where I think you have to be strategic. Right. I don't think you should do that to pick on somebody who doesn't deserve it. I think that you identify the people who really, really suck at school. And, you know, you share some of the hot goss that you might have heard around the corridors or even, like, between classes if you were, like, in the bathroom and you heard people whispering about something. And the real key here is you can't use repeat to.
A
Oh, God.
C
So you like no old tea, right? It needs to be piping hot, fresh every single time.
E
Fresh tea for Laura T's house.
C
Yep.
A
When you said fresh tea, I thought of the scene in Hogwarts Legacy where you go to the scriptorium and you pick up that old mug and you, like, sip from it. I know it's been there for like a thousand years.
C
Nasty.
A
Ooh, dust.
C
Absolutely nasty. And then this one, the house ghost. This is really for everyone who felt like they got burned by group projects, whether in school or at work all the time. So, yeah, our house ghost would be the ghost of group projects past who is constantly complaining. I did all the work and still got an E.
B
Love it.
A
This is a very fun entry into the mythology of Hogwarts houses.
C
Hey, you know what? If we got to express all creativity. There you go.
B
Very cool. Ivana, do you want to go?
D
Sure. I was so jazzed when I saw that this was what the topic was. I took this week from my original outline of a fanfic I was trying to write, and it's not the one I ended up writing, but it was fun and it was going to have Ilvermorny be part of it because I live close to where Ilvermorny would be. And so, like, I just, like, I really couldn't stand, like, what she did with it. So I was like, I'm redoing this. And this was one of the houses I came up with for my version of Ilvermorny. And so the house name is Mist Stride and the colors are indigo and gray. The house values are vigilance, clarity, and balance. Because I wanted this to be.
A
What'S.
D
The word I want. I'm very reminiscent of those who watch over that feeling, of the ones who watch, the ones who remain. And so that's kind of the vibe of this. The house sigil is a mistbane hound. This was a magical creature. I made up for this. And I'm actually gonna, I think, drop the. I made this AI Image of it, which didn't know how long it takes to make an AI image. Really long and a lot of descriptive words. So it's a gray wolf and a great blue herring mix, because those are two animals of the northeast area. The head of house is Riften Bramblescry, who I ended up using in the current story I'm writing. So it's fun. He gets. It gets to be repurposed.
A
I like that name.
E
That's the name I would love to know.
C
I know.
D
It's so funny, you know, when you think of one, you're like, oh, okay. No, no, no. This is good, right? I can work with this. That's kind of how I felt. Yes. Yep.
C
Ah.
D
Put them in the astronomy wing. I just felt right. I feel like this is that, like, again with that. Like, yeah, like. Like overseeing things kind of feel. It's kind of otherworldly with that, the animal being what it is, and then who guards the entrance? So I always thought of it as mist comes and appears as you get close to the door. And if you aren't in mistride, you get lost in the fog. You're just kind of, like, wandering around, but if you have a password, it clears. And I didn't write this in, but when I originally wrote this, it had to echo the right way. Like, you had to know where to say it and had to echo in the fog the right way. And that would be, like, how it determined, you know, like, if you knew what to do or not.
C
Okay. That's. That's the best way to enter a house that I think we've talked about today. That is so cool.
A
Like, trying to get home, and you're lost in the fog. This is like trying to get into the secret woods in. In Legend of Zelda.
E
That's what I was thinking too.
A
Yeah. You have to see the way the embers are flying off the torch to kind of guide your way.
C
Yes.
D
I was originally gonna, like, have it be extra spooky, and there'd be, like, creatures or, like, shadows that would come up, and I was like, that feels intense.
A
Trying to get to bed.
C
Come on.
E
Too late.
A
I stayed out. I didn't follow that Pre, I got held up.
D
I'm just tired. It was a long day. Yeah. So I took that out. And then I do have a house ghost. It is Lark Everfell. And in life, they were a healer.
A
Cool.
E
I want to join this house. Sounds very Zen.
B
Well, I came up with Emberwake as the name of my house. And going along with that name, the colors will be orange and blue.
E
Getting a sports team into it.
A
Do you own anything that's orange and blue? You seem like a weird color combination.
B
Yeah, absolutely nothing that is orange and blue. But, yes, Going back to my Syracuse roots, I felt it only appropriate that those colors were somehow a part of my house in terms of house values, resilience, passion, and sarcasm. So this is kind of building off a little bit. Laura, you used wit earlier, but have to have a little bit of humor involved in this house. For the house sigil, I went with a phoenix rising from the ocean. And maybe a little bit more on that later. But in terms of the head of house, I made up this head of house, Pele, Prometheus. So Pele was the Hawaiian God of fire, as well as volcanoes. And then Prometheus, of course, if we are to believe Greek mythology gave fire to man, so there's a lot of fire references going on here. When I was coming up with this, in terms of the phoenix rising from the ocean, it made me think of the very famous prophecy by Tycho. Yeah, Rising up, unforgettable rise, great avenger.
E
With wings from the water.
B
So this is a bit of an homage to that. In terms of where in Hogwarts the house would be located. Actually, not within the castle itself. It would be in a magically dormant volcano on the edge of the forbidden forest. And you could only get to Hogwarts via enchanted tunnels.
A
Okay, this is cool as hell.
E
I'm just going to call this out.
D
That's really good.
B
In terms of who guards the entrance to this house or how you would gain access, you need to place your dominant hand. So, Andrew, you're going to love this because it's like AI, you have to place your dominant hand on a charred palm print that's etched into the rock and it scans it, and if it's not correct, you will be sucked into the volcano and spit out into the excellent lake.
E
That's real security right there. None of this password crap, not water, the right flower crap.
B
In terms of house ghosts, no, we do not. We have. We have little fire imps that are mischievous. They cause lots of problems. They're like mini versions of thieves. Yeah, exactly like that. Andrew.
E
Oh, nice. So fun. These are cool.
B
Well, yeah, I had a lot of fun. I mean if we were to look at these houses, do any of them jump out for. If it's. Aside from the one you came up with yourself, is there one that you're drawn to?
E
I said Ivana's. I just very Zen and she's the guest so I'm voting that one.
D
I was gonna say Micah's. Yours was. I liked everyone's honestly. Also at the kind of kiss. I like that one a lot.
C
Yeah, I really, really like that.
A
I really want a sassy gargoyle that you have to tell some stories and an apple with a permanently raised eyebrow giving me look. All of these sound great and we should actually write fan fiction that has. There's no regular Hogwarts house. This is all just ours. Like all five of ours. Matt Hogwarts and see what. What would the characters, what would the Harry Potter series have been like in these houses instead?
C
Yeah, Chaos.
B
Should see if we can get these SIGILs, these other four SIGILs like you've been made through AI.
D
I'm sure we could use artbreeder.com it's amazing.
A
Sorry, art. What?
C
Art.
D
Oh, actually I guess I mean art literally. Artbreeder.com that. Well, it's. It's like you build your own artwork and it's really excellent and it comes out really high quality and I have nothing but good things to say about the website.
B
Oh, very cool.
D
Despite its name. Yeah, didn't think about that.
E
Thanks everybody for listening. Thank you for your support. Let us know what you think of these new Hogwarts houses and we'll see you all next week. Bye everyone.

Bye.
