Time for bonus Mugglecast. And I was browsing the Harry Potter subreddit the other day, and the following topic came up in that subreddit, so I thought we should talk about it, too. Would you date a witch or wizard if you're a Muggle? So here's a scenario. You're on Tinder. Someone attractive comes up. You've heard rumors about the magical wizarding community, and you suspect this person might be a witch or wizard themselves. There's clues. Like they say in their profile, they have no student loan debt, they wear funny clothing. It's just noticeably unordinary. We have an owl for a pet, and they talk about herbs and ancient languages in their bio. It's just a very unique person, you see. So you both swipe right on each other. You get talking, and after seven great dates, they come out to you as a witch or wizard. And this excites you because you've always been fascinated by the magical community and you suspected that this person was magical. But I feel like this could introduce a world of problems for Muggles. And I thought this would also be interesting to discuss because we were just talking about the dynamic between Petunia and Lily and Petunia's jealousy that her sister gets to go to Hogwarts. So, first of all, some ground rules just to get them out of the way. We're going to work with a modified version of the International Statute of Secrecy. And in this scenario, a witcher wizard may come out to their Muggle partner if true love is afoot. Oh, and you can tell immediate family and best friends about the truth behind who you're dating, but you can't tell anyone else, so there has to be a line somewhere.
Eric
This is basically like movie screening rules or, you know, anything else where if you sign an NDA but you still end up telling your mom, you know, yeah, yeah.
Andrew
And love potions were not involved and will not be. Let's just take the love potions out.
Eric
Thank you for laying that down.
Andrew
So there's some pros here. Okay. It's not all bad. The. The wizard could easily do chores around the house. You would think that's a perk, right?
Eric
Yep.
Andrew
Another pro is they're unlike Any type of person you've met before, and, yeah, they'll also introduce you to a whole new world of wonder. Do you three agree? Do you have any other, like, perks?
Eric
Yeah, I think that's true. I think that the honeymoon phase and the getting to know a person could be even deeper with a witch or wizard. Because as much as you're getting to know them, you're also getting to know this whole other hidden world that was previously not open to you. And you have so many more places to grab a coffee. Diagon Alley now, like, crazy.
Felicity
Well.
Andrew
And.
Felicity
And I think you would be introducing them to your world as well.
Eric
That's true. Especially if they're not Muggle born themselves.
Felicity
Right, right. And if they've, you know, had no exposure, or maybe if they work in the department, you know, or in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, but they don't actually know anything about Muggles. You could actually help educate them. But I think with this, you would have some degree of culture shock bringing two people of very different backgrounds together. And that can be true in the real world for all kinds of reasons. So the important thing is how you hold respect and admiration for where the wizard that you're dating comes from.
Andrew
Mm.
Felicity
Your intent going into it is very important.
Andrew
Yes.
Felicity
The intent is to be like, oh, they can do magic stuff for me. That's not.
Eric
What can they give me. Basically, the things Andrew wrote out.
Andrew
But I think that's how a connection with somebody could start, potentially. Maybe it is. Oh, they have this unique trait about them that I haven't seen in somebody before. So I'm intrigued.
Eric
Like, yeah, this guy doesn't know how to dress himself. What's up with that?
Gina
Yeah.
Eric
Is he hopeless or is he a wizard?
Andrew
Well. Or no. If you're like, you're on Tinder and, like, you know, fun fact, I can speak six different languages, that might be a reason to compel you to swipe. Oh, that's a sign of intelligence. They could help.
Hannah
Or they're like, oh, I can talk to snakes. And you're like, oh, want to talk to mine?
Eric
And we're behind the paywall.
Andrew
There's some pickup line opportunities here too.
Hannah
Yeah, well. But I think after seven dates, you're invested probably, regardless of whether or not this person is a witch or a wizard. So I think that's just a nice added bonus.
Andrew
Yeah. I had to work a magical number in here somewhere.
Eric
I do think, from the standpoint of the person who has magic, there's a lot of. You would put A lot of effort into surprising somebody or impressing somebody. You'd still feel nervous about it. So you'd probably do something really cool. Magic in front of them.
Andrew
Well, that's a good transition into the cons with a wizard Muggle relationship. And this is where I was really focused. Does the limits of who you can tell about the true nature of your partner deter you from dating them? And, you know, even if we go strictly by Harry Potter canon, this would be an issue as well, where you really can't let the word out.
Eric
Yeah, yeah. That. That. That would be like putting up a wall between yourself and your partner and the rest of the. Like, the rest of your friends or family.
Andrew
Yeah.
Eric
Permanently. Potentially. I mean, because you're really not supposed to. So it would be like having a partner where, you know, you and them can have your little world and you can be a part of their world, but they can't. The people in your world outside of them can't ever really know maybe how you spend your time or.
Andrew
And I feel like that's not healthy for a relationship.
Felicity
I don't know. I think. I think it just depends on the couple, honestly, because it could be. Maybe this wizard works a pretty, like. I hate to use the word normal, but like, a recognizable job that can be understood in the Muggle world. So, like, what if they work in, like, a bookshop in Diagon Alley? Muggles can understand that. You wouldn't have to make up some fake backstory. You would just have to leave out the fact that they're a witch or wizard. And any stories they tell involving magic, they shouldn't tell in front of Muggles who can't know. Right.
Hannah
I think it gets a bit tricky, though, once you start getting friends involved, because presumably your partner's friends can't really hang out with your friends because it's going to eventually get out there that you're dating a witch or a wizard. Right. Like, yeah, there's only so far. I know you said best friends, Andrew, but presumably you have a larger friend group than just your best friends. And you know, how. How does the two sides start to interact with each other?
Andrew
Yeah, exactly. I mean, and like I said, you have to draw a boundary somewhere, otherwise everybody would be able to find out that that person is a witch or wizard. So, I don't know. Another question that I was thinking about getting back to Petunia and Lily. Would we get jealous of our partner arguably being superior to us? Sorry, but they are. They're just way cooler. I don't care if you're talented. You're a pilot, you're a doctor.
Hannah
You're Arthur.
Andrew
You're Arthur. Is that what you said? You are automatically cooler if you're a witcher wizard. You have magical abilities.
Felicity
I wouldn't be jealous, but if they thought they were superior to me, yeah, that would be a problem.
Eric
There you go.
Felicity
I would not.
Eric
There you go. That's. Yeah.
Andrew
So you wouldn't date Tom Riddle?
Felicity
No. Oh, I don't think Tom Riddle would date me. I'm a Muggle.
Eric
Oh, true.
Hannah
He'd make a Horcrux out of you.
Andrew
I don't necessarily think that the witcher wizard would think they're superior, but I would feel insecure.
Eric
I just. But that's. That's how you get over in a, in a, in a Muggle relationship with two Muggles, if you have an extremely successful partner or a talented, highly talented partner, you. You. These issues come up where you can resent them for it. But yeah, that's not a healthy relationship anyway. And there's. I. I think love, true love is more about loving the person and, and, and inspiring and hoping that they succeed at what they're good at doing. So.
Andrew
Yeah.
Felicity
Right.
Andrew
Yeah. I wouldn't mind if they were vastly superior to me if I was their sugar baby. I clearly need to go into therapy.
Eric
All these self defeating, like, oh, they're vastly superior.
Hannah
Why are you framing it that way, Andrew? I'm sure there are things you would bring to the table that would counterbalance.
Andrew
Their ability to do podcaster. Oh, cool. I'm a fricking wizard. Whatever.
Hannah
I mean, I'm editing Podcast wizard.
Felicity
I bet. Yeah, I bet this wizard can't edit.
Andrew
I'm good at cleaning. Oh, cool. I can do a spell that does cleaning too. And I don't have to put in any work. They always have a leg up on you. Always.
Felicity
Yeah, but think about how easier that can make both of your lives, especially if you're living together and you're managing a household. If you have someone who can, like, one person, brings to the relationship an ability to make all of the menial, really annoying tasks that we have to do every day, like, they can make that easier so that y'all can focus on something else more interesting together, I think that's a win.

What I was also thinking about was what would happen if you have an argument and you know it's a heated moment and they accidentally use magic against you as we see like Harry, you know, accidentally removing the Glass or kind of like repelling somebody away, as this happens with Dudley earlier in this book. That could cause problems too.
Eric
I think it's a matter of. Yeah, definitely watch those emotions in case something, you know, slips out.
Felicity
Yeah. Well, the thing is, you know, when a, when it's with a child having these outbursts. That's more understandable if as an adult, and I'm just assuming we're talking about people who are close to our ages. If I met a 35 year old wizard who could not control his emotions and he had these outbursts that caused magic unintentionally to come for me, I would be out just like with the superiority thing. Like. No.
Andrew
Yeah, but I think, you know, we all on occasion at least have a moment where maybe we lose our temper. And what if losing our temper came with unintentional magic?
Eric
Then they can make it up to me with some intentional magic.
Andrew
Here, I'll clean up for you.
Eric
You know that other thing you do.
Felicity
That other spell you do when you make magic, do that.
Andrew
Well, I'm glad you brought that up because can a muggle please a wizard in the bedroom? Sure, but not as well as the other way around.
Eric
I don't think it depends on whether or not electronic devices work in that close proximity to. That's gonna be my.
Felicity
I think they would, I think they would. Especially if you're living, if you're living in a muggle home, like I guess I'm assuming. And maybe this is how self, how self centered I am because I'm assuming that we would be living in my house. So, you know, I would think that those things would work.
Eric
A lot of this can just be fixed or remedied with care and effort that two people who enjoy each other would put into the relationship.
Andrew
I'm really trying to get you guys to hate this, but your, your family.
Eric
And relationship therapists are a findable category.
Felicity
We should ask. We should ask. Isn't Seamus Finnegan, isn't his dad a Muggle? He has that line where he's like.
Eric
My dad's a muggle, my dad's a witch.
Felicity
Nasty shock for him when he found out. Like we could ask her.
Andrew
Yeah.
Felicity
Is your, is your bedroom life satisfactory?
Eric
Well, two Seamus, two pros. From Lindsay on the Discord pro. Magical pets. Oh my God, that'd be cool. There would be so many different pets that you could possibly adopt or, or have if your partner was a wizard. Yeah, that would be, that would be.
Felicity
That would be really cool.
Eric
Like if you think a chinchilla is Exotic. Or a ferret is exotic. Wait till you see what I just got from a dare call. Oh, that would be adorable.
Hannah
You love those.
Eric
I love those.
Andrew
Lindsay also said something funny. My therapy bills would be high with anxiety if I was a muggle with a magical child. Can you imagine that?
Eric
Yeah, that would be a bit much. The magical parent should step in there, I think. But Lindsay also says ADHD making you always late. Can you apparate me to work, honey?
Felicity
Honestly, I would love to.
Andrew
Long apparition. All right. That is definitely a good pro. That is. That is a big help with the commute.
Eric
Save on gas money.
Andrew
Yeah.
Eric
Yeah.
Andrew
Okay, so at what point in the relationship would you start asking favors of your magical partner that stand to benefit you? Like, let's say maybe I want some. The magical equivalent of Botox. I don't want to go and pay for Botox. You know, that's expensive. How long before you start asking favors?
Eric
Their answer should be, sweetie, I like you just the way that you are, and if it's anything other than that, you have to leave them.
Felicity
So. Well. So here. Here's the thing. I. I think that if people want to get cosmetic procedures done and that. And you want it for you totally do it. Where I would be concerned here is we have seen in the core books that certain aesthetic modifications, healing approaches can really depend on the talent of the person performing them. Like, think about Lockhart trying to heal Harry's arm. Think about how wrong it went when one of pansy Parkinson's cat's hairs ended up in the polyjuice potion. Like, you want to make sure that you have someone really skilled who can do this. Like, I'd almost want them to be, like, a wizarding esthetician or plastic surgeon to make sure they actually knew what they were doing.
Andrew
Well, I. I agree with that. Maybe it would be just my luck that I'm dating somebody who is very skilled at the art of facelifts.
Hannah
Maybe. Or. Or like your question here. What if you wanted a bigger booty? Like, you might just end up with the left Micah.
Andrew
Do you want a bigger booty? Is that why you introduced this question for us?
Eric
We need. We need a magical version of the television series bot.
Andrew
That's the next show coming after the Harry Potter cooking show. That's coming within the next couple of weeks.
Hannah
It's on tonight.
Andrew
Okay.
Eric
Love that.
Andrew
You guys. You guys, when you talk about it last week, I thought one of you would bring up that. It seems to me like it's the equivalent of, like, the great British Bake Off. I feel like that's what they're going for. Right. Which has a huge following.
Felicity
Yeah.
Andrew
Anyway, I do think we've brought up the chores a couple times. I, I, it feels a little unfair to me to ask the witch and wizard. Go ahead.
Hannah
What if you. What if they bewitch certain things to do the chores?
Andrew
Like a broom? Yeah.
Hannah
Well, like, I'm thinking about the burrow. Right. We. A lot of things are happening in the burrow, presumably at Molly's control, but they seem to be working on their own. Right. Like the dishes are doing themselves.
Eric
Yeah, they have like intelligence to do that. Even, even the spell. Now, Tonks can't quite get it right, but this was just mentioned a few chapters ago. The cleaning spell that lets you put your books, they sort themselves into like a trunk or whatever. She says her mother can do it. Right. So like Tonks can get the books to go in the trunk, but she can't make them sort themselves. But there is a way to do it where they sort themselves. That would be nuts. My house would always be clean, you know, and organized.
Hannah
Yeah, I think they get stuck with cleaning. Sorry.
Eric
I mean, it's well complicated. Magic is just a swish and an incantation. So I feel like Repairo just always be doing when you enter, when you leave. Repair.
Felicity
Yeah. And if it frees you up to be able to contribute other things to the relationship with all that time you're saving. Like what, from the cleaning? I mean, getting, I guess, better at sex so that you can try to compare to your magical partner's amazing sex.
Eric
I was gonna say words of affirmation or some of the other love language, but yeah, better at sex.
Andrew
I bet there's a spell for all of this that we're talking about right now.
Eric
Sweetie, you don't have to do the dishes. Just get better in the sack.
Andrew
Well, I think it's very presumptuous that you three are like, oh yeah, we date a witcher wizard. No problem. You're assuming they want to date you three or any muggle. I don't think it's going to be that easy.
Hannah
But you said that they swiped.
Eric
Where is this crippling self defeat coming from? I think that each of us are attractive.
Felicity
Yeah, but if we've been on seven dates.
Eric
Yeah, seven dates.
Andrew
Yeah.
Eric
And they still want to date you.
Andrew
I'm. I'm thwarted by my own scenario. Damn it.
Eric
There it is.
Andrew
I think you'd have to work hard in this relationship. A little too hard in this relationship.
Eric
No, I Think it'd be jackpot.
Felicity
Well, I mean, all relationships are hard work, right? It's just the. The flavor of it would be different here. Now, I could see it being complicated with their family members and with your family members, depending on how they perceive.
Eric
Like, oh, like, if. Like, if one are, like, really pure blood, like, mania, or into. I mean.
Felicity
Right. Like, I can see. Because we're talking about, like, an. An inter. Magic relationship, I guess. Like, I could definitely see certain family.
Eric
Members, like, a culture clash between the all Muggle family. And it'd be like my big fat Greek wedding, but it'd be my big fat magical wedding.
Felicity
Wizard wedding.
Andrew
What if your wizard father is like, I don't want you potentially having a child who ends up being a Muggle? You know, there'd be BS like that happening.
Hannah
It's also interesting to explore, like, the genetics of all this. And, like, what is the likelihood that the child could end up being a squib or completely. I don't know. Would they, in fact be Muggle born? Like, is that even a possible outcome?
Andrew
Yeah, I guess half blood would be.
Felicity
The better, I feel the most likely.
Andrew
Your wizard father doesn't want you to have a half blood. They don't want to have blood in the family. You know, there could be any.
Hannah
There's a lot of family dinners.
Andrew
It's B.S. but.
Felicity
Or, like, as the Muggle parent, you'd have to think about, am I comfortable with my child receiving a magical education or.
Hannah
Yeah.
Felicity
Is my expectation that they get an education that's a little more standard?
Hannah
This could be a whole episode, Andrew.
Andrew
Yeah, I don't want them. I don't want them running off to this random wizarding school with a host of security issues. Like, no, thank you. I want them nearby at the elementary.
Hannah
School up the street, which probably has just as many security issues.
Eric
I want them to be able to do math beyond a sixth grade level.
Andrew
All right, well, I'm gonna speak. I'm gonna speak with my therapist about everything unearthed.
Eric
You are value all my insecurities. You're a catch.
Andrew
Oh, thank you.
Eric
Bring a lot to the table.
Andrew
Thank you. But you're a Muggle. I want to hear it from a witcher wizard. And then I'll start feeling better about myself.
Hannah
Gorgia works. Andrew just keeps saying it.
Eric
Don't burst a blood vessel.
Hannah
Oh.
Andrew
Oh, God. All right, that sounds painful. Wrap this up for sure.
Hannah
Well, they can just clean it up then.
Andrew
Thanks, everybody.
Hannah
Avanesco.
Andrew
Thanks, everyone, for listening. Thanks for your support on Patreon.
Hannah
I'm bound to get unhinged at some point.
Andrew
I'm sorry for this whole discussion, and we'll see you all next time.
Hannah
I. I do think you could make an episode out of some of this. Like, seriously, you could. We could explore some of these things a lot more.
Eric
It's gonna be a good bonus.
Andrew
We can keep it in mind. Could do another bonus Muggle cast too, if you're itching too long.
Eric
This the new series. Instead of dirty pickup lines, we got the continuing saga of Andrew and a magical partner.
Andrew
Andrew doesn't want to date a wizard part 37. Bye, everyone.

Bye.
Felicity
Bye.
