But I think to Damaris's Point, like this system, the police, there's obviously a lapse in training at some point where they're not taught to de escalate. This is a routine traffic stop. At worst, he should have gotten a ticket, and he should have gone on his way to the stadium and filed for it, paid for it later, whenever. Like the fact that he got out the car. This is like, why does the onus always have to be on? And I hear your point. You should never do anything to make the cop feel more emboldened because they had these little mini power strokes and trips. But the. The cop should always be the person that's in charge. And when you're in charge, your job should be to de escalate. You're supposed to protect and serve. None of this was protecting or serving. His friends see him, they're concerned for him. They pull over to go help him, and then this asshole cop starts yelling at him and cuffing him. Like, where? Where along this whole process did you calm the situation?

Right. But that's why I'm saying what I'm saying. Because if you have ever been pulled over, immediately, you know, when you got a cop that's just a dickhead, or a cop that's like, he's cool. He's not even tripping. His energy is calm. He's talking to you like you're a man. Like, once you see that you have a cop that's just on this type of trip, the way you can control the situation is to do the things that he's asking. To the 10th power, roll the window down. Cars over. My hands are out the window. Can't say I'm reaching for nothing. I'm on the phone with the fucking team security, who's a retired detective with the Miami police. Like, all of these things just. Just to protect myself. Because I already see that this cop, he's on one. So I'm not even on a phone.

Rich Homie Quan recently passed from, you know, drug use. And it's just, you know, it's. The message is. Is what I was, you know, I was happy to hear, like, okay. Like, you know, I'm not mad at him putting that in the ecosystem right now. Especially coming off of the whole beef thing, it's kind of like, you know, we got other real shit going on that we need to address in our communities. So, yeah, for. For that, I, you know, I listened to it and I was like, okay. Like, I would have been really shocked if this was a dire. Another direct same shot at Drake. I would have been like, coming off the. There's no round twos and then now you drop this. And, you know, I just was like, I was happy that it wasn't that. I do respect the message. I do respect, you know, what he's talking about and what he's trying to bring light to in these bars. But, yeah, this is just. This is Kendrick, man. We all know this is what Kendrick does best when he's really rapping and putting bars together. But the message, watch the party die.

What does that mean? Does that mean that, you know, we should start taking things more serious? Let's stop acting like there's not issues going on. We can't keep masking our trauma with, you know, lifestyle partying, drugs and, you know, buying nice things, which is all, you know, and not just.

Not to say that partying and material items have never not been part of hip hop since its inception, but it has felt like hip hop as a reflection of society has leaned very, very much into prescription drugs. And that in itself has trickled down into pretty much what everything Kendrick is addressing in this entire thing. The party, I think, being the industry and the culture to some degree. And most of that is leaning on drugs. And you can hear it in the music. Not to say that there's not good positive music out There. And not to say there hasn't been bullshit before, but it feels like the stuff that's being pushed specifically right now is based off ops, gangs and fentanyl.

Yeah. So it's a very destructive energy.

I know a lot of people get upset at the person sitting on the soapbox preaching and, like, who are you. Who are you allowed to preach to us for? Like, what's your background? But I respect that Kendrick, at a time when he probably has the most eyes on him that he's ever had, coming off that beat Beef plus a Super bowl announcement, instead of doing something that would really benefit your career, more of a friendly song, even if it was positive, but more of a bop, if you will, or an album or something to really push your strings, put out a very damn near no drums message when you had all the eyes on you. Yeah, I respect it. I know some people wanted to hear either Not Like Us Part two, an album, another diss record. But I appreciated when the spotlight's on, this is how you decide to use your platform.

And I'm. Yeah, the initial, you know, the blanket statement, damn, this shit, snooze fest, go mid trash, whatever. That's. I think the people that are saying that that's the critique Kendrick's trying to implement. I think he's assuming the role of redirecting the priorities of what hip hop is and restoring it to what Rory said earlier, the foundation of what Mall loves to preach so much about, the integrity and moral aspect which has clearly been lost in the current state of hip hop over the last however many years. So. And he dropped this, which I think is great. So the VMAs aired last night.

Yeah. He released this song at the start time of the VMAs. I think was intentional because we're celebrating the very people that he was most likely talking about throughout this song. But, yeah, I think it's. Obviously, it's put in song form, but I would implore people to just read the lyrics because I think it reads more of, like, a. A sermon than a song. And I know people like Kendrick's, whatever. He beats his girl. Kendrick's not perfect. Nobody in hip hop's perfect. Kendrick can still be an asshole or a piece of shit for that act, for something bad that he did, but it doesn't negate this type of messaging and this type of, like, product that also I think is extremely important, needs to be shared more in the hip hop community. I mean, I love this record.

But I understand why, like you said, him having as many eyes and ears on him, his. You know, him streaming as high as he's streaming right now. Whenever he drops something. This is the type of message he chose to put in that ecosystem and have, you know, people talking about it, whether good or bad, whether they call it a snooze fest, trash, whatever they want to call it.

He just want that message to get out there. So, you know, this was a. This was a pivot that we didn't expect. But I respect. I understand it. I understand why he did that. And, you know, this is what Kendrick does. This is a message that he always tries to put in his. In his songs, on his albums at some point. So it's on brand form. It's not nothing too far away from what Kendrick has always done.

And even though I do love this, and this is more in my bag when it comes to hip hop, I still love party music too. I still love.

In our culture like this, you know, companies put big money behind those type of messages. So I understand what Kendrick is doing. But we can always party in hip hop. Let's. One of the lyrics I wanted to point out that stuck with me even on the first listen. I've since listened and read these so many times since. And if I were to single out one line from this song, it would be that that. That is like the ethos of what this record to me, you gonna get that tatted is.

Kendrick doesn't want. I don't think he's calling for harm on any single person. He's calling for a change.

He literally says that he was going to find all the radio personalities as corpses. He was talking to you. He wants you dead.

Sure. No, but I just think it's really awesome for him to challenge the, the so called like the faces behind the scenes, like the thems of the industry. Rather than turning his back or like pointing a gun at another artist and be like, this is your fault. I hate just you. This is not about a single person. It's about the whole thing.

And the. Oh God, I hate the word duality. I'm going to sound so corny now. Of usually it's the industry versus street and vice versa. Street hates industry, industry hates street. But back to the holiday predictions. I do not think that Kendrick is going to drop on September 13th. As calculated as he is, I can't see him dropping this early now that he announced the Super Bowl. I think it'll be a little closer end of this side of the year or top of next.

Yeah, closer to the Super Bowl. I can't see him dropping now. I'd love for him to drop and. I don't know, maybe that would make sense. And those records catch and he can perform those at the Super Bowl. Maybe that gives enough lead time for it to become a hit that he could do there. But I don't see him dropping this far away from the Super Bowl.

Like, if this is a glimpse of the energy that he's on with Watch the Party Die. If that is the name of the record, then it's gonna be interesting to hear, you know, what else he has around that. Because we talked about Mr. Morale, that album and how it listened and definitely performed like a playbook. It definitely felt like it was a play. So we know that Kendrick is. When it comes to albums, there's usually a deeper. You know, it's like the deeper you go into the album, it's like turning pages, things like that. So, I mean, it's gonna be interesting to see if he stays with that or because of the new. You know, just this big spike that he's had in his. In his career as far as streaming and all of these new ears and eyes on him.
