I'm so sick of me too. H me, Ms. Cry Baby. H me, Ms. Cry baby. It's not my fault, it's my feet. Love.
Mal
What'S going on?
Rory
Go. And we're back. We didn't go nowhere Days away. Slept here from white baby Jesus's birthday. I cannot wait. Are you setting up like a nativity scene or like, what are you doing? What? What, man?
Mal
No.
Rory
You wear Jesus piece.
Mal
Yes, I do. But no, I'm not to answer you.
Rory
I know you didn't grow up in Catholic church, but you did go to church at some point, right?
Mal
I had no choice. At one point in my life.
Rory
Rory, did you. Did your church do like the whole thing on Christmas night? Yeah, like all the kids do the nativity scene and I was. They give a child a fake baby. Married.
Mal
Say now behold the lamb. I was a lamb in the play before.
Rory
I was always a shepherd. Three years straight.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Yeah. They even gave us like a stick and everything was really cool.
Mal
There's some Rachel.
Rory
All the girls were angels like then.
Mal
See, I don't like that I had to be a lamb as a black man. You were the shepherd. Yeah. Which is kind of like slave owner like type of vibe.
Rory
I don't know if that would be the case.
Mal
It's the same.
Rory
I think slave owners didn't really double as shepherds because they had some help. I think they stayed. I think the shepherds were more like hands on with what they were doing. But there was definitely some slavery going on around that time.
Mal
Oh, absolutely.
Rory
In retrospect, I always found it funny though that they made like an 11 year old BE a pregnant woman and walk, walk down the aisle is crazy wild. But yeah, shout out to everyone all the kids that have to go to church either the night before or the day of while you're thinking about presents. Yes, I know that.
Mal
Struggle and salute to everybody that's struggling around the holidays. You know, it's a real thing, holiday depression. You know, don't, don't be down on yourself too much. Everybody's kind of in a tough spot financially now, so you can still enjoy the holidays and enjoy your loved ones, even if you can't go out and buy and spend as you would like. Still enjoy, you know, time with your family.
Rory
Yeah, that's just made up by, you know.
Mal
Yeah. Consumerism, fourth quarter sales.
Rory
Pretty much, yes. But I'm hosting this year, which is always fun, I guess, but, you know, my dad's already been here for a week, is staying for another week. This is.
Mal
Oh, no, I got to see your pops before he leaves.
Rory
He'll be here. I got a. I got a new 27th or 28th.
Mal
Oh, I got to tell him I got a gift for him, you know. You know, frankincense and myrrh. Okay, I got myrrh.
Rory
I follow.
Mal
Me and your pops gonna smoke some mercy.
Rory
Yo, me and Jake, me and my dad yesterday. Pause. Tag team at the kids playground. No, that sounds crazy, but here we are. Let me. Let me.
Mal
Okay, let me land.
Damaris
Land that one. On Epstein's Island.
Rory
Never turbulence there. Always smooth land.
Mal
Smooth, yeah. Great weather.
Rory
So Tuesday, the one day that we don't record, I took Amara to this indoor playground and I walked in and it was incredible. I was like, oh, this is awesome. But she was kind of coming off being sick, so, you know, she didn't really like it that much, but I was like, I know she's going to like it when she feels better. So I go on Friday, completely empty because most people are either at school or whatever, at work, so she has this place to herself. She's running a fucking muck. We were there for, like, three hours. Saturday, I go back because I'm like, she had a great time. It's freezing outside. She can't do anything. Let's go back Saturday. Wasn't thinking. Of course it's going to be mobbed in there. Could. It was unwalkable. It was a zoovie, if you will, in there.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
On Friday, I was kind of cool with Amar exploring by herself because there wasn't anything that would hurt her and, you know, let her go by herself. But with this many people, I was on her ass, following her everywhere. Yeah, it doesn't really have an age limit, so there's bigger kids there. I don't really care if you're a child. If you touch my daughter, back of your head is being palmed and thrown into that fucking ball pit. Yeah, me and my dad were just taking turns kicking over seven year olds.
Mal
Nice.
Rory
At one point, I had taken, like, one of the foam things and just started, like, beating them away.
Mal
Yeah, they thought you were playing, but it was.
Rory
No, I wasn't. I was. I was Making sure that their eyes were red after, like.
Mal
So you were. You were beating kids is what you're saying?
Rory
Yes.
Mal
Okay.
Rory
And I think that's how kids need a beating.
Mal
Yeah, absolutely.
Rory
Because their parents are sitting on the sideline because they're old enough to just run around no matter what. Yeah. I'm in the. The weeds of, like, crawling spaces.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
If you're going near my. Not two year old. No.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
You're getting thrown.
Mal
Amar's not two yet.
Rory
Nope.
Mal
No.
Rory
Soon, though.
Mal
Oh, my gosh, she's big.
Rory
Damn. She's gonna be tall. I know.
Mal
Hell, yeah. Wow.
Rory
Looks like me, but certainly doesn't have. Have the genes of that. She's gonna break the pharaoh height curse for sure.
Mal
That's good.
Rory
But, yeah, I had no shame in it either. One of them cried. I was like, good.
Mal
All right, kids.
Rory
Now you know. Now you know. Don't touch her.
Mal
Exactly. Tough love. I saw one of my. You know how you had. Growing up, you had the one guy in the hood that's kind of like the guy you look up to.
Rory
Okay.
Mal
And you don't realize, like, until you're older that he was only, like, three. Three or four years older than you. Yeah, man. I just saw one of my, like, dudes that I looked up to and just, like, always enjoyed being around from my hood back in the day. He's doing bad right now, man. I just saw. Literally, I was at the light and saw him, like, in the street, like, asking for, like, cars for change, man. And that, like, I'm not gonna lie, that kind of choked me up. And I had heard, like, over the years, people were telling me, like, yo, he's not doing good. Like, you know, he's kind of out there. But I know I hadn't seen him. Literally just saw him on the way here. I mean, and I'm just in the change. No way.
Rory
Today, like, how?
Mal
Just now.
Rory
10 degrees outside.
Mal
Exactly like so. But it was kind of like five cars at the light, and he was at the front at the light, and I was like, three cars behind. And I'm looking. I'm like, I know that's not who I think. And as he turned around, like, I saw his face, and it was him. And I was just like, oh, man, dog. Like, that was like, when I tell you, one of the coolest dudes in the hood. Back in the days, he was the first dude I ever saw wearing Louis Vuitton. Like, wearing it, like, I always saw, like, Louis luggage and things. He was the first person I ever remember Wearing Louis Vuitton. Like he was that guy growing up, like, super cool, could rap, could dance, girls liked him. And I think he just, you know, just found drugs, you know, somewhere in the early 2000s and just never bounced back.
Rory
Damn, homie. In high school, you was the man, homie. Man, I feel like that does happen a lot. And kids don't realize that in high school or junior high, like the coolest, quote unquote, coolest people usually end up being the people that don't do anything with their lives. It's usually more of the nerdier, more creative kids that end up doing shit with their lives.
Mal
But it rocks you when you see somebody you was cool with and used to like hang out with every day to see them. Sad, homeless. Yeah, that. That hits you totally different. Like that's like, damn. Like I know somebody that's homeless. Like, yeah.
Rory
And you did nothing about it. Sellout.
Mal
I mean, got a little bit of.
Rory
Money and just Forgot about all 12.
Damaris
Degrees all rolled the window down and blew smoke in his face.
Mal
No, hit the light 12 degrees out. So he didn't see, you know, he was a couple.
Rory
Cause you have tense.
Mal
Well, no, it was. He couldn't see in couple cars ahead of me. So I was just like, damn, man. You know.
Rory
But I said, but the light's about to change.
Mal
Yeah. And the light was changing and I had to get here because we gotta, you know, do what we gotta do.
Rory
Of course you're thinking about Peach and.
Mal
His heart gotta get out of here. Yeah. He to go see his family. I didn't want to, you know.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
So come on.
Damaris
There's also the thing like in. In growing up, even like grade school, there's like the, the whoever's the cutest girl always ends up just being like disgusting when it. When adult sometimes.
Mal
Cuz the cute girl.
Damaris
Yes.
Mal
Now there's some cute girls. I went to high school and I see them now and I'm just like everybody's sis now. All the cute girls that ain't cute no more. What's up, sis? But the cute girls are still cute. It's like, yo, why you acting funny? Like you still talk. Why are you acting like that?
Rory
But that can be bad. A lot of the really cute girls in high school got too much attention too early that ended up ruining their lives.
Damaris
Yep.
Rory
Like they ended up with a way older dude and getting pregnant at 17.
Damaris
Literally what I'm talking about is that exact situation.
Rory
Like had they just been the ugly, ugly duckling that just needed five more years to Be pretty. It could have saved their lives. Yeah, like right after college, you become a bad, perfect time.
Damaris
Yeah. Like a girl that gets hot during those four years in college is like, that's the one you should. Like, when she's freshman, you're like, she's. And then by junior year, like, oh, like, that's a. That's a real.
Mal
So none of the girls you went to high school with that was like, cute and, like, hot in high school? You see them now? None of them still like, no. Really?
Damaris
Oh, no. Also, I didn't go.
Mal
Oh, but you went to, like, I'm.
Damaris
Also never gonna put Albany or I'm not bigging up dubstate at all. It's garbage. So, like, there's no. There's real. No lookers up there to begin with. Let's start there.
Rory
So untrue.
Damaris
I just live there. I spend a lot of time there.
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
But I'll be there tomorrow. When you're listening this. I'm there. Who I didn't see today?
Rory
A hot woman that were at SUNY Albany. That were from Albany. Were fire.
Damaris
Those are like the colony girl. Like, the white. I didn't go to white schools. I didn't go to the white schools. I went to, like, dwar then, you know.
Mal
Wait, what do you think when Rory.
Rory
I was looking for white women.
Peach
White women.
Mal
Well, I'm just saying, like, noobs.
Rory
Just looking for the whites.
Mal
And what? You definitely. What high school did you go to?
Damaris
I went to Schenectady High School.
Mal
What?
Damaris
It's not. It's not white at all.
Peach
It's very trailer trash.
Damaris
It's not trailer trash poor, but it's not white.
Rory
It's mixed bunch.
Mal
The mixed bunch of, like, mid.
Damaris
It's a lot of mid.
Mal
Mixed mid.
Damaris
It's a lot of mid.
Rory
Okay, but I mean, I'd be like.
Damaris
They tell you that too? I don't think anyone that's from there is like, it's the bad. And just don't lie to yourself.
Mal
So the cutest girl in your school. It was like, that's not tough to be. It's not.
Damaris
You know, there's always like a.
Mal
There's.
Damaris
Yes, there's like, there's like an outlier. Of course.
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
But I'm talking about just your average.
Mal
Yeah, like the walk in the hallway.
Damaris
You'Re like, yeah, that makes sense.
Rory
But I feel like all the bad.
Mal
Yeah, you make sense.
Rory
All the bad chicks, like, in LA are all transplants from, like, small towns.
Mal
I feel like, nice.
Rory
They were.
Mal
It's Some pretty homegrown, like California.
Rory
Of course LA has amazing local women, but a lot of like those fucking I want to be an actress model types. Even in New York you see it with the models, like they're all from weird towns.
Damaris
Yeah, they're all from like Kansas and.
Rory
They were the hottest girl in school and you know they were told that. So they were like, oh, it must. I can easily go to Manhattan if I'm killing it up in Rochester.
Damaris
I'm doing the battle in Rochester.
Peach
Shots at upstate. Yo, mad other states.
Damaris
I'm the hottest in Utica.
Rory
Farmington, Connecticut. I'm smoking right now.
Mal
What about Utica? Are they out there?
Peach
No, nobody's out.
Rory
No one's outside in Utica. It's Nicole.
Damaris
My mom's from Utica. Yeah, yeah. Big Lebanese population in Utica.
Mal
Oh, so it's probably.
Damaris
There's some Lebanese women out there.
Mal
Yeah. I never would have guessed that it's Lebanese women in Utica. Utica doesn't seem Syracuse got the baddest.
Peach
From the upstate girls. I'm just telling you. I'm just telling you that Syracuse got the baddest from the upstate girls.
Mal
I'm just saying Syracuse is a big city so.
Rory
Well, let's not make it Super Buffalo.
Peach
Gonna want to fight because I said that.
Rory
But what do you think for the LA metropolitan area, if that even exists. Who do you think has the.
Mal
The baddest in the LA metropolitan area?
Rory
Women that grew up in la.
Damaris
Oh, Cal Basses.
Peach
No, Julian.
Damaris
What do you mean California? You guys have to think it's just all the guys that own TV networks that just bag hot models and then they have hot kids. That's how it works.
Mal
Oh, it doesn't. I know some pretty. I know some good looking couples in that kids. I'm like, that's your mom. Like, damn.
Damaris
Every girl I know that's from la, like grew up in la, that's grew up, went to Beverly Hills. Highs did that. Like real traditional. I'm rich as I'm from here. All their moms are just like a super hot foreign model. And the dad is like, you know, fill in the blank. Watch tv network.
Peach
Different strokes for different folks. I would go with probably Inglewood.
Rory
No, I've definitely met some bad from Inglewood. Whatever part of the valley or whatever it is that Karuchi is from, she's still friends with all her friends from high school and all of them are back. Like whatever area that is is number one. Peach.
Peach
We got to get. We thank God Peaches have a Michael.
Rory
You have to edit yourself now.
Damaris
I'm kind of with them, though.
Rory
They're there Valley girls as well. Not like the stereotypical, like, oh, my God, the Valley. Not those girls, but there's some bad chicks in the Valley.
Peach
You have a terrible Valley voice. Try it again.
Rory
Oh, my God, there's so much traffic.
Peach
Canyon way.
Rory
How am I gonna get to Hollywood?
Peach
Why is it so soft? You have to make it more annoying.
Rory
Oh, my God. No, no, you do it.
Peach
Vocal fry. Vocal. Kim Kardashian vocal fry. Like, oh, my God. Yeah. I don't understand why. Yeah.
Rory
I know chicks from Staten island that sound.
Mal
I know chicks from right here on. On Murray. Murray Hill that sound like.
Damaris
I was waiting.
Rory
Glendale. Speaking of Kardashians, there's some bad chicks in Glendale. And now it's becoming local just to la.
Peach
The Cali people are literally screaming at their radios right now. Well, not their radios, but how long.
Mal
Is that at their radios?
Damaris
At their radio.
Rory
At their AM radio marriage to say.
Mal
They'Re screaming at their radios. Who has a radio?
Rory
All the New Yorkers.
Damaris
Well, if it's a crowd we're talking about, they're screaming at their Tesla robots or whatever the they got out there.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
How long is everyone. Well, you're staying here. Going down.
Mal
I'm going down. I'm going down to see the fam. Yeah, I leave tomorrow. Okay, well, when they're hearing this, I'm on my way to see my family.
Rory
Gone for the week. You guys gonna run through some. Maybe some old local high school, like one. The one that got away.
Damaris
I already told you how I feel about that.
Rory
I mean, but if you're there for a week, you got to do something.
Damaris
Nah, nah, I. I was. I had the thought. I was like, do I bring my PS5 home? But I'm not gonna be that guy. I'm just gonna bring a book.
Mal
I'm not. Bring it.
Peach
No, bring it.
Damaris
I feel like I should, but. Nah. Because then, like, as soon as you.
Mal
Get home, you're gonna be mad.
Peach
Yep.
Mal
You're gonna be.
Damaris
Because we don't really have, like. I don't have, like, the TV that I can just, like, duck off and, like, have for myself. So I'd be like, having to set it up in the living room.
Mal
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Damaris
I'm like, that's.
Rory
Everyone goes to sleep. You can do, like, 1:00am to 5:00am shift.
Damaris
Yeah.
Mal
You know, black magic is sleep by nine. Sure.
Rory
That's. He was doing before.
Mal
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Damaris
What was he doing? Right.
Rory
How'd he get the name.
Peach
All right.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
Sorry if you guys are listening, but I think that's healthy. It's good for a marriage. Continue to do so.
Mal
I'm with you.
Rory
You can't play P. Or get what? Like, what? Could you do your holiday break?
Peach
I don't know, spend time with your parents? I don't know.
Damaris
Probably. I'm probably just going to work out and go to the bar.
Mal
Spending time with your parents is cool. Like, the first two, three hours, catch up on everything, and you run out.
Rory
Of things to talk about.
Mal
Then after that, it's like, all right.
Damaris
Yeah, bro.
Peach
My mother, like, she calls my name so much, and I'm just like, what do you do when I'm not here? Like, how do you just call my name all day? I get tired of hearing my name when I'm. When I go home. It's just like, why are you calling me from different parts of the house? You don't even want anything. She'll call me three floors up and I'll go up and she'll be like.
Damaris
What are you doing three floors?
Peach
We just a basement, a first floor and a second floor. It's not all right. It's not. I am poor. I am not. I'm from the hood. I do not live in a mansion.
Mal
My family on a brownstone is connected. You.
Rory
They discovered Harlem. Just go to just. You have the keys to every brownstone.
Damaris
It's connected.
Mal
Brownstone in Schenectady.
Damaris
I was saying to Damaris, I'm mad.
Rory
That I'm going right there.
Damaris
I'm staying home until Sunday, which is annoying because I want to come back here already.
Peach
To do what, though?
Damaris
Like, have a weekend.
Rory
Why can't you do that?
Damaris
Well, I'm not going to change my train. It's like a whole thing.
Rory
My therapist has reminded me a lot this year that I'm an adult and I don't have to listen to what my parents say. Like, every time I'll talk about a certain thing, you know, like, you know you can tell them no, right?
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
I was like, I never even like, thought of that.
Mal
I feel bad.
Rory
Like, same.
Mal
I'm not.
Rory
It's not even.
Mal
I'm not even wired telling, like my family and everybody know, like, I really feel bad. Like, when I say it, I'm like. Like I'm give up myself. Like, damn, man. Like, you gotta be there for your family. You gotta support everybody. Gotta. And then sometimes I'm like that.
Rory
No, like, Julian, you can say, hey, I'm coming for Christmas. I'll stay for another day. And then I'm. I'm leaving. I'm an adult.
Damaris
Yeah. I don't know. It's just like, once I'm there, I'm like, I'm here. I might as well, because I know how much. It's not for me. It's obviously for them. They care so much more. I mean, I love them, which is great, but it's like, I'm. They're gonna be there for, like, seven nights. I'm like, that's a long fucking time.
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
So.
Mal
Well, I mean, everybody hopefully is enjoying their families and having a great time and, you know, enjoying this time off. If you're off from work, school, whatever it is, you know, happy holidays.
Rory
What are you. Friday night, went to some family's house with my dad and Amara, and I was very proud of myself. I was baited into the healthcare CEO conversation. There was opposing views, and even though I was turning red in the face, I just stayed quiet. And I was like, fair enough.
Mal
What were opposing views?
Rory
We don't have to get into it, but.
Damaris
So they drank the Fox News Kool Aid.
Mal
Which side was Jake on? Is what?
Rory
Oh, no. My dad was arguing.
Damaris
He loves him.
Rory
The only way I was going.
Damaris
He has a Luigi tag, Mario Luigi, the whole gang.
Rory
He's. The only reason why I was going to step in was like, I couldn't let my pops do this by himself.
Mal
Oh.
Rory
But then I was like, if I get started, I'll take it too far. My dad can kind of teeter with the line.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
If he's sober, and he was at the time. So he, like, knew the line. But I was sitting there red in the face. But I was very proud of myself of just shutting the fuck up. And I'm not going to change anyone's mind.
Mal
Let him have it.
Rory
This will just be an argument.
Mal
Let him have it. Let him have it.
Rory
So I pretended to go to the bathroom and just tried to wait it out.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
I could hear them still arguing about it.
Damaris
I can't believe you're defending a terrorist, Rory.
Rory
Listen, man.
Damaris
A terrorist, Our health care.
Rory
Then there was one point he didn't even have United Health Care. I was like, all right, see, this is why. This is why I did not want to be in this conversation. But anyways, it's been an interesting year. This is not our last episode of the year, but I figured we could run through some of our favorite albums. I don't want to do the top ten greatest rap albums.
Mal
No, we don't have to.
Rory
That becomes a fucking Thing.
Mal
Yeah, we don't have to do a list. We can just run off some of our. Our own personal favorite songs albums of the year.
Rory
But what's interesting is we are prefacing these are our favorites. We will still be attacked and debated. Even when you say no, it's my personal favorite.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
You're debating me on my taste. If you don't like my taste.
Mal
No, that's the way the world is building.
Rory
I'm not saying this is the best.
Mal
Right.
Rory
This is what I liked.
Mal
This is what I enjoyed.
Rory
Even with that, we will still be argued down.
Mal
Oh, for sure. I love it though.
Rory
What do you guys think are. Let's go around the room. What would you Predict my top three rap albums would be without looking?
Mal
Your top three?
Rory
Yeah, I have a top 10 here.
Mal
But I'm gonna say Vince Stables.
Rory
Okay.
Mal
Oh, that was this year. Gnx.
Rory
Okay.
Mal
And I'm gonna say Freddie Gibbs, you.
Rory
Got two for three. Yeah, I will go through mine now. Or unless we want to predict malls.
Peach
Freddie Gibbs.
Damaris
Yeah, Mall loves that. Freddie 1.
Rory
Definitely going Freddie Gibbs.
Damaris
I would put Dochi and Terraries too.
Mal
Oh, yes.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
The. The Family Matters ep.
Mal
I'm the only one that got it. Yes.
Rory
All the unreleased Drake records, the Party Next Door and Drake album that none of us have heard and probably won't hear in 2024 is definitely number one. I don't know if that's R and B or rap yet, but that's there. That's there.
Mal
It's a little bit of both. You know what I mean?
Rory
No jokes aside, Freddie Gibbs, I have in yours. I think I'm gonna go schoolboy Q in yours. And I wouldn't even know. I guess Vince Staples would be in your top three.
Peach
Did Benny drop this year or Conway?
Rory
Yeah, okay, so whatever they put out.
Mal
Conway dropped this year too.
Peach
So Benny Conway and Freddie Gibbs, that's my top.
Rory
Pretty good guys.
Mal
They all on my list. For sure. They all on my list.
Rory
All right, well, I'll start with my actual list. Top 10 personal favorite albums of 2024. In the rap category, number one, Freddie Gibbs, you only die once. Number two, Dochi.
Mal
Is this in the particular order?
Rory
This is in 1 through 10.
Mal
Okay, so you have Freddie Gibbs as the best rap album of the year.
Rory
My personal favorite. Yes. Number two, Dochi Alligator Bites never heal. Number three, Vince Staples, Dark Times. Number four, Tyler Creator, Chronicopia. Number five, Tierra Whack Worldwide Whack. Number six, Schoolboy Q, Blue Lips. Number seven, Kendrick Lamar, gnx. Number eight, future of Metro, we don't trust you. Which is saying something, because I've, like, never been the biggest future fan. I get it. But love that album. Number nine, Rhapsody, Please Don't Cry. And number ten, Common and Pete Rock, the Auditorium, Volume one.
Peach
Well, this is interesting because you guys were given the assignment of 5. Were you not able to only do 5 or.
Damaris
I can't do that?
Rory
Last year we tried to do five, and I'm not doing that. You leave too much shit off. And.
Mal
Yeah, five.
Peach
I mean, that's the point of the list. That's the point of being a favorite.
Rory
Well, there's five there. You could.
Mal
Well, here we go.
Damaris
We can just saw this in half.
Peach
No, I was just asking because I wanted to know, like, are you being super inclusive? Are these all the only albums you listen to, or are these really all your favorite? Because I think that's why we. Why I originally said 5. 10 is fine. But I just wanted to bring that up that we originally said five. Was it because, like, more than five were your favorite favorite, if that makes sense.
Rory
No, I will say the five that are here are the one. The five that I listen to, by far the most.
Peach
Okay.
Rory
This year, even though Tyler came a little later in the year, I would say that would be the highest. And Schoolboy Q would be six right there. Everything after that could be kind of mixed around a bit. But my top five is. That was my. That's pretty solid five as far as what I listened to the most on the rap album side this year, for sure.
Peach
Okay.
Mal
Now we have a few. Some of the same artists as far as rap albums of the year that we personally loved. I didn't put this in no particular order, but I will say, for me personally, Freddie Gibbs has the best rap album of 2024. I think you only. You Only Die Once is incredible. I could do without some of the skits.
Rory
Yeah, that's my. That's my only real experience now.
Mal
Even though some of them are funny, you know, I mean, they started to.
Rory
Land later into the album, but in the beginning, I felt like, oh, this is cheapening up. Really good music.
Mal
Yeah, but. But it's a. It's an. It's a phenomenal album. Incredible album. So that. That's my fun. The most important rap album, which I think is different than the best rap album, but to me, the most important rap album of 2024 is belly 96 miles from Bethlehem.
Rory
Great album.
Mal
I think that's probably the most important rap project of 2024.
Rory
If you haven't content Wise, for sure.
Mal
Yeah. If you haven't heard 96 miles from Bethlehem, please do yourself a favor and listen to that.
Rory
But important meaning, the content and everything that has been going on.
Mal
Yes, the message. The message of it. How personal it is as an artist to make that type of music and that album, you know, I think that it's just. It speaks to exactly what hip hop is, you know what I mean? So shout out to Belly on that project. But I have Freddie as the number one album for me. Vince Staples. No particular order. I didn't. I couldn't just put it in particular order, but Vince Staples, Young Chris and Ryder, the Case Closed ep.
Rory
You've been talking about that a lot.
Mal
One of my favorite projects this year. Larry June put out a crazy album this year. Benny the butch at 38 special, stabbed and shot two. One of my favorite projects this year. Also Benny Summertime Butch was one of my favorite rap albums. Rap projects this year. Contrary to popular belief. Cole, we might delete later. One of my favorite rap projects this year.
Rory
Why? I didn't put that on my list. I do. It would be there. But it's an ep, right? Yeah, but it might delete later.
Peach
It's just.
Mal
Your favorite.
Rory
Would make my top five of what I listened to by far the most this year. But I. I just thought it was an ep, so I didn't put it there.
Mal
Anything. I'm just.
Peach
Man, that's an album, you know, in this day and age, that doesn't matter anymore.
Rory
Okay, well, all Dreamville and Cole fans, I promise that wasn't a slight. I just consider that an EP. That's why it wasn't in my top 10.
Mal
Anything that an artist, probably, if that's the case.
Rory
Sorry, Comedy Pete Rock, I'm bumping you out. And I would put Cole at either 5 or 6.
Mal
So comedy P. Rock is off the.
Rory
List altogether if I have to add my delete later. Damn, It's. There's only 10 slots.
Mal
I have comedy Pete Rock on here. Kendrick, GNX. We don't trust you. Tyler the creator, Schoolboy Q. No particular order.
Damaris
Nice.
Mal
My favorite one. My favorite. My favorite projects of 2024.
Rory
Okay, well, then I'm changing mine. Now that I know the rules. That there is a Rory.
Damaris
The rules.
Mal
You don't have to change.
Damaris
Rory love establishing rules.
Mal
It's just your favorite project. I'm a fan of.
Rory
I think rules are important. It's how society functions.
Peach
So mall. It was supposed to be a structured list. It was supposed to be a structured list, so I can't blame him for taking one off and replacing.
Mal
I mean, but he's speaking albums. Ep. I didn't get caught up in that. I don't care if it was seven songs or 17 songs. It's a project.
Damaris
True.
Mal
I guess I get what you're saying, but for me, it was just like, if I listen to this, it has replay value. And I loved it. I don't care how many songs it was.
Rory
Okay. Well, I mean, yeah. Also Summer Walker got nominated for R and B album of the year and EP was in the title. So I guess everything. There are rules and they have changed.
Mal
Yeah, no, there's rules. People just don't abide by them anymore. But there's rules.
Rory
Okay. Going into R B, I mean, did you guys. I know you guys didn't put a list together, but is there any notable albums that we missed that you guys listened to?
Damaris
Oh, that you missed?
Rory
No ones that you loved?
Damaris
Yeah, I was gonna say. I mean, they're mostly chromacopia. I loved Vince's album Dark Times. We still don't trust you. As far in the doji. Album's great too. As far in J. Cole. So as far as, like what you guys put here, I never really got it too into Blue Lips. I don't know. I just didn't do it.
Rory
Go back. It's really good.
Damaris
I think I gotta revisit.
Rory
Came at a weird time because obviously the Drake and Kendrick thing.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
I think overshadowed all music that had just came out or was coming out.
Mal
But specifically rap music.
Rory
Oh, yeah, for sure.
Damaris
Yeah. I think a lot of R got.
Mal
They shit off during that battle, but rap was kind of this time of year.
Damaris
I think it's. You're right. I should probably go back and give that. And I. Do you guys play the Freddie Gibbs one a lot in the studio. And every time I hear it, I like it. I think I just also have to just sit with that and listen to it straight through.
Mal
Yeah, it's.
Rory
It's the most replay value of a straight up rap album that I've heard. As far as important, I thought that was an interesting category. More. I agree with the Belly based off the content. Important music wise. I still think Dochi Alligator Bites Never Heal should fall under one of the most important albums. Just because I think it didn't change the landscape per se. I'm not saying she's doing something that hasn't been done, but it brought it back into a mainstream light. I feel like it was the first time in a while. I think everyone was like Maybe hip hop isn't doomed for on a mainstream level. This woman has a lot of fucking talent. Can't wait to see where her career goes type of thing. So I would put that also in most important albums this year.
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
Yeah. Corday as well. Cordae dropped a great project, Crossroads. That's what I would add.
Rory
Okay.
Damaris
If anything.
Rory
But yeah, my sleeper album of the year, Tierra Whack Worldwide Whack was one of my favorites. Really, really good. I also. It sounds crazy to say, but I don't think Vince Staples Dark Times got to just do it it.
Mal
When did it come out?
Damaris
Early in the year. I remember bumping that. I think when we were in la.
Rory
Was it around the time that his show came out? Yo. This year, even though it flew by, it still didn't. If that makes sense. Like some I can't believe happened in 2020.
Damaris
That came out in May. I thought it was earlier.
Mal
Oh, that's. There you go.
Damaris
Yeah. That came out May 24th.
Mal
That was during the battle.
Damaris
So right during the even. That shows how good it was because I was listening to that a lot.
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
When all that was stuff was going on.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
And that title was fitting. Like during that time.
Rory
There's so much good music on that.
Damaris
Yeah. Honestly, it's kind of a good Dark Times.
Rory
One of those few rap albums like the Gibbs one that you can just put on and leave it.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
There is no real skips on that. Everything connects really well.
Mal
Freddie Gibbs album is phenomenal, man. Like every. Every day I listen to it, I like it more and more.
Rory
Trying to think if there's any other albums that we missed. I'm sure you guys are still screaming at your AM radio for all the stuff that we did miss. Oh, the era of bringing Ransom Chaos is My ladder too. Was really, really good. That could have made.
Mal
When did he drop that, though?
Rory
That was 2024. And then smoke and Mirrors was also fire. Smoke and Mirrors should make my top 10 now that I'm thinking about it. This is why I hate doing Ransom was that I start thinking of other projects.
Mal
Ransom came, but it's September.
Rory
It's three records. But you guys said EPs count. Like that's why I didn't have Ransom on this stuff because a lot of those joints are eps.
Peach
All right, well, let's say it has to be more than six songs. I feel like more than six songs or more than seven songs is an album. Seven songs or more.
Rory
Okay.
Peach
Seven songs or more. I feel like.
Rory
Well then does my delete later after he deleted One.
Damaris
Yes, it still does.
Rory
Okay.
Damaris
Yeah, I was gonna say it's also Grammy nominated.
Rory
All right, then. Then Ransom Chaos is my ladder too. Definitely should be mentioned in a top 10, 2024 list for rap. For sure.
Mal
Yeah. Oh, yeah. The photo bomb. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm tripping.
Peach
I know you guys don't listen to female rap, so you don't give it. It's just do. But Lott, amazing album and she deserves.
Mal
She did.
Rory
Glorilla too. If I was doing like a best list, Glorilla's album would be there. Like, this is just my. My personal.
Mal
Yeah, I'm just making it for me. I'm not saying in the landscape of the entire thing, but for me, what I played that had the most replay value for me this year. Yeah.
Rory
Okay. R and B had a lot of great albums this year, but still feel like on a volume scale was a little light in the ass. But we did get some great ones. Still regret not putting my album out in 2024 instead of 2023. And also now I'm terrified.
Mal
Don't. Don't regret it. Why are you regretting it?
Rory
You got your phenomenal project and nominations are what define us.
Mal
That's true.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
Wasn't good. Unless it's list. It's listed.
Mal
Yeah, I get it.
Rory
And also it scares me for 2025, the amount of people that didn't drop. And I'm trying to drop.
Damaris
You picked a shitty album cycle. Yeah.
Rory
What the fuck?
Damaris
You should have dropped in the even years.
Peach
Well, since I got out the way.
Rory
For you, we'll get to the SZA album. I will say now she did not make my list because I made this list before she even dropped. And I don't think it's fair. But we will get into her album after we do the R and B category predictions of my top three.
Mal
Oh, obviously. Leon Thomas.
Damaris
Yeah.
Mal
Lucky day.
Damaris
I don't know who your third would be.
Mal
I think me and Rory both, like, agreed on one of these R B albums that I have.
Peach
I would go much. Sinead Bryson.
Rory
Okay, pretty much. Pretty much Guess my top three when Damaris added the third. But I'm for your guess for top three. Leon Thomas Mutt. Every time you walk into the office, you're listening to that. I'll put lucky day there for you as well. And I know how much you like the Bryson one, so I think it's the exact same prediction on that. But Bryson was not in my top three. Number one for me, Leon Thomas Mutt. I also think that is the best as well. It's not just my personal favorite. That was the best R and B album.
Mal
That might be the best album this year for sure.
Rory
Yeah. Across the board. That might be the best album. Leon Thomas made an incredible, incredible album. But not far behind him at all was Lucky Day Algorithm, one of my favorite lucky projects. Which is saying something. Loved what he did on that. Number three, Demaris was correct. Sinead Harnett, Boundaries. Incredible. Also, don't think it got it to just do number four, Raven Bird, Bird's Eye. Number five, you could say isn't R B. I'm calling it R B. MKG 2 star and the dream Police. I think he really liked that. If you haven't listened, I'm sure people will tell me that's alternative. It's a rbl. Number six, Galant Zinc. Number seven, Layla Gapier. Really excited for her. She's one of my favorite new artists. Number eight, which feels disrespectful that it's at eight. Thames. Born in the Wild is an incredible, incredible album. Number nine, Bryson Tiller. Bryson Tiller. Number ten, Money Long Revenge.
Mal
Yeah, that's.
Rory
That's my ten there.
Mal
That's a solid.
Rory
That's a solid list, I guess. Notable mention, Marsha Ambrosius. Her and Dr. Dre put out a project, which is Fire. I just didn't get back to it the way I thought I would. And I don't know if that was because I was busy or just kind of forgot, but that's a really, really.
Mal
Great album for me. Leon Thomas, obviously, album of the year, in my opinion. Again, no particular order. Bryson Tiller, PND 4. Yeah. Ali. Private suite 5. Lucky day hombre. Put out a dope project.
Rory
Oh, yeah.
Mal
This project is incredible. The Xavier Omar LA Project. I like that joint they put out. Yeah.
Rory
Yay.
Mal
Ali also put out Trap House, Jodeci Radio, Volume one. Really like that project. Money Longs Project.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
And that's my list of obviously, all the ones that I've had on replay.
Rory
Okay, so this changes things again. Ombre. Here we go in the title.
Damaris
So, like, were you kicking out Money Long? Because you have to.
Rory
If we're doing this, I do this in my sleep. Dash EP. And you guys said seven records. It's six, 15 minutes. No, it is phenomenal. You don't know with Alex Isley is one of my favorite songs this year. But that's an ep, man. Fifteen minutes, six records. And EP is in the title. That's the album now. You could title it this is an ep, not an album. And everybody like, well, it's an album.
Mal
Yeah. Kehlani while we wait, too.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
I like that project, too.
Rory
The Deluxe. The deluxe. Make me like that album even more. The Deluxe. I wish you would have put some of those records on the first time.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Slow Dance with Dixon is insane. Like, there's really, really good records.
Mal
It was some great music this year. Like, I know the battle and all of that kind of, like, you know, took up a lot of the talking space and kind of overshadowed everything else. But there was, like, a lot, a lot of good music this year.
Damaris
Honorable mention for the R B. Mac A Res put out a great. I never know how to pronounce his name. Is that how you say it?
Mal
Mac Ayers airs.
Damaris
That's probably errors.
Rory
Did he put it under R B or.
Damaris
It's R B. Yeah.
Rory
Okay.
Damaris
It's a great album.
Rory
Max should definitely, definitely be on that list.
Damaris
What's that album called? It's actually gonna bother me.
Rory
Damaris. Was there any. Any R B that I missed? And I know.
Peach
Well, your favorites are your favorites.
Rory
No, of course, but just stuff that you liked.
Peach
I didn't listen to much R B this year, I would have to say, but, I mean, Kiana's album is being left off of everything, and I think that her going independent has a lot to do with that. I've been fighting with the people that's been making, like, lists for these magazines. I'm leaving her off top R and B albums. It's been pissing me off.
Mal
That's your. You talk about that.
Peach
That's my. That's. That's all I listen to. It. It made my end of year rap. Listen. It had only been out for a.
Rory
Month, so I didn't know if it counted because it was a deluxe, which I guess could be a segue into the scissor stuff. The Chris Brown 1111 Deluxe came out in 2024.
Peach
Wasn't it additional, like, 10, 15 songs?
Rory
It was another album, but, yeah. I don't know if that. Does that count?
Mal
Yes.
Rory
Okay, then. That was really good. That could be one of top.
Damaris
Here we go.
Rory
I mean.
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
Who are you kicking off now? Bryson? You kicking off, Bryson?
Rory
Wait, no, I was gonna kick off this year. Mac.
Peach
No, the Deluxe came out.
Mal
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
Peach
Jaguar 2 Deluxe came out this year. I know it's just a deluxe, but it is an additional, like, five, six, seven records. I don't know.
Mal
Yeah, that would. You know, there's a lot of dope projects, man. People say it was not nothing to Listen to. I'm like, y'all bugging. It's a lot of out here y'all can listen to.
Rory
But it was. It was the year of the the beef. So, yeah, everything got completely overlooked by one week out of hip hop. Before we do get to SZA, I was on, you know, todayshow.com because that's what I do in the morning before I get my news when Katie's not working. Go to todayshow.com you know, once they let Matt go for those, you know, simple accusations, everything went to shit. This is their woke media. Yeah. Like, why can't the guy be able to lock his door from his desk?
Damaris
So what do you have when a.
Rory
Woman is sitting there? This Woke Culture 25 Pop Culture Moments that Define 2024. Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman have a fast car duet at the Grammys. Totally missed that.
Mal
You didn't see that performance. Yes, you did.
Damaris
Oh, that was fire.
Mal
Yeah, that was great about that then.
Rory
I don't remember it. I definitely watched the Grammys, but that didn't.
Mal
Like, that was Tracy Chapman's first.
Damaris
Like, yeah, they finally gave her flowers.
Rory
Like, listen, man, my hard drive got wiped in May. I forgot that that even happened. Yeah, I love that. To today's show, just as a photo of Kansas City Chiefs win the super bowl. And it's Taylor Swift and, you know, love, Mr. Swift, just love. That has nothing to do with the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl.
Damaris
What about like, the.
Rory
Like, why not holding the.
Damaris
Why not Mahomes?
Mal
I mean, because Mahomes isn't hugging Taylor Swift.
Damaris
I mean, he's got his Maga queen.
Rory
I mean, so I thought that today's show would have all, like, fluff stuff that we could have fun with because it's been a long year. It got. It gets dark quick. King Charles III and Kate Middleton announced cancer diagnosis. That's cultural moment.
Mal
What?
Damaris
That's a big deal to a lot of people.
Rory
Is that a cultural moment?
Mal
Yeah. I don't know if we should put that on a list, though. Like somebody being diagnosed.
Damaris
Oh, getting cancer, maybe that's number five.
Mal
How are we listing that? Because, I mean, and then look was above it. Oppenheimer.
Rory
So you put Oppenheimer above a cancer reveal party.
Mal
Like, what the fuck is going on?
Damaris
The cancer reveal is sandwich in between Oppenheimer and Taylor Swift in the Chief.
Mal
Yeah. Like, what is happening right now?
Rory
And had. All right, if Taylor Swift was not involved with the Kansas City Chiefs would not be on this list. Would that be on the list? No, the Chiefs winning yet another Super Bowl.
Mal
No. Would not be on the list.
Rory
It just gets darker and darker from here. Drake Bell shares he was sexually abused as a child star in Nickelodeon. Mind you, I went to the Today Show. I didn't want to go. I didn't want to go to the poll. I didn't want to go to these places that I knew were just going to be like, puff did this, all this nasty. I wanted to have fun today. And let's go through this. I'm like, okay, we're. Who compiled two for five so far?
Mal
Who compiled this list, though?
Rory
Katie Couric.
Mal
No, Katie Couric did not compile this list.
Damaris
Yeah, he fled to Mexico. You know his story.
Rory
Well, wasn't he involved in some weird.
Damaris
He's, you know, it's one of the cases where it's like. Well, because he was sexually abused.
Rory
Yeah.
Damaris
You know, becomes the abuser. But he was, like, getting. He was about to get jammed up. He's. He's like a news reporter in Mexico now.
Mal
When in doubt, run to.
Damaris
Go crazy down there.
Mal
I get it.
Rory
Cancun. That's where you think he went.
Mal
Go to Cancun?
Rory
Did he go to, like, some small town, or is he legitimately in Tulum right now?
Mal
He's in Cabo.
Damaris
I don't know where he lives, but.
Mal
He'S in Cabo slamming back some anejo.
Rory
And usually, usually. That's not where. They don't usually go to Mexico. They usually go to another country. We're not allowed to say.
Mal
Why are we not allowed?
Damaris
Oh, true. Yeah. That's the asylum.
Mal
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rory
That's accepted. You get dual citizenship the moment that accusation starts, come on in.
Damaris
He's in Mexico City. Oh, he's doing. I mean, that's pretty chill.
Rory
That's pretty chill.
Damaris
I mean, that's like a great city to run to. Like, that's after you live a great life.
Rory
Sexual misconduct with a minor. Yeah, I see where you're taking us. I see where you and Al Roker put this list together. Beyonce, Cowboy Carter. Yeah, it was a moment.
Mal
Definitely a moment.
Rory
I liked it. Zendaya rules the box office with Dune Part two. And challengers didn't see either.
Mal
Part two was. You didn't see part two?
Damaris
No, I never saw Dune, either of them, really. I like challengers, though. Challengers wasn't bad.
Rory
Next one, I'm all on board for maybe reindeer Internet.
Mal
Oh, man.
Rory
Sleep sleeper moment of the year. If there's, like, this list, this should be number one. At number two to Me crazy story.
Damaris
This was one of those moments where we all actually agreed to watch a show and we did it and it was worth it.
Rory
If you have not seen baby reindeer, watch it over the holidays and talk to your family.
Mal
Makes total sense to watch it over the holidays.
Rory
Taylor Swift releases the Torture Poets department. I mean, that should have been number one.
Damaris
Yeah. When they go like 20 million first.
Rory
Week, this should be high up there too. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese being drafted to the wnba.
Peach
Yeah.
Rory
I feel like changed that entire organization.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
In a way it's never been before. That's just a cultural moment in, like, the last decade. I feel like.
Mal
Yeah, this was big for the wnba. This is a magic and Larry all over again, in my opinion.
Rory
Sabrina Carpenter, Shaboozi and Chappelle Roan take over the charts. All three of them put out great music. So I'm not hating on. On the pop.
Peach
You don't know who the Chappelle Roan is?
Rory
I just watched your tiny chapel.
Damaris
Roan. You guys can't even say her name right.
Mal
Chappelle.
Damaris
Chappelle Dave Chappelle Rowan.
Rory
If you were French, you would know.
Mal
If I was friends, I'll be able to say. Right.
Rory
He is silent.
Mal
Oh, yeah. It's only one E. She.
Rory
She even did an interview and said that she got her name from Killing Them Softly.
Damaris
She's from, like, bum, Missouri.
Rory
You said something crazy. I don't know if I'm snitching on you because it was off mic. You don't find her attractive?
Damaris
I don't.
Rory
Which is nuts to me.
Damaris
Sabrina Carpenter, by the way. I don't want to like on her, but, like, I just. I don't get it. I don't see it as far as.
Mal
Talent or just attract all of it.
Damaris
Okay, I. Go ahead. I don't know what her stands are called. You guys can kill me. I doubt they listen to this, but.
Mal
Carpenters.
Peach
Jesus Carpenters. Yeah, we're the Carpenter.
Damaris
Yeah. Jesus was a carpenter.
Mal
That's a fact.
Rory
As someone that you know, my top pick isn't usually the whites. I think she's gorgeous. She's gorgeous. Gorgeous.
Damaris
She's not.
Rory
All right, moving on. Of course. Drake, Kendrick Lamar, maybe. Probably number one.
Mal
Definitely. Number of these guys.
Rory
Last 25 years.
Mal
Definitely.
Rory
Can someone explain Brat Summer to me?
Damaris
This was the white women's Drake, Kendrick Lamar. Even though it wasn't a beef. There was no beef.
Rory
Taylor and Scooter. Scooter Braun. That was the white people's Drake and Kendrick for sure.
Damaris
Oh, that's right.
Rory
Explain brat to me. What is it?
Damaris
This is white women. It's like the whole thing is. It's Charlie xcx. So she is. She's like the new Madonna in terms of, like, her cultural fan base. It's like the eccentric gays and women.
Rory
Nice.
Damaris
So the whole thing is like, we just get blackout drunk off martinis and do coke, and then we don't go to sleep. And then Brass Summer do it again. Like, it's just.
Rory
Oh, so they just, like, bit Megan with hot girl Summer and got their own.
Damaris
Yeah.
Peach
Yes.
Damaris
It's like the. The white version of that.
Mal
Yo, I am so. I've never even heard of this neither.
Damaris
Really.
Mal
No.
Peach
No.
Rory
Reading this this morning was the first time I'd ever even heard Brett.
Mal
You heard of this Peach.
Rory
Well, did you guys run into any women?
Damaris
Oh, yeah. Go. Yeah.
Rory
What's their version of driving the boat? Doing those in Nashville. When you do. When you do the bike and drink at the same time.
Mal
No, they actually drive doing code. Yeah. Like their dad. Their dad owns a boat. They actually do.
Damaris
Cool thing about Tri XXO is like, I don't. Personally, I don't care if the music's whatever, but her branding and what she does is. Is incredible. Like, this was how she named her deluxe album Brat. And it's the same, but there's three more songs, so it's not. That's the name of her deluxe out. Like, the branding behind her is incredible.
Mal
That's a Rory title, 100%.
Rory
Like, she's fully understand it. You don't even have to talk about the rules at that point.
Damaris
And every era. Every era that she does is just a color. So obviously Brat was this green color. But if you look at, like this, the. The course of her career, it's actually. It's genius marketing. She just picks a color and hammers at home.
Peach
It says, you're like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe say some dumb things sometimes who feels herself but also maybe has a breakdown but kind of like parties through it is very honest, very blunt, a little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things, but it's Brat.
Rory
Oh, so me at 22, who is her manager. Her team is smoking this. Every girl felt seen after reading a lifestyle that can be described perfectly of every woman I've ever met.
Mal
That's like the zodiac sign. You know, when you say something about a zodiac, they're like, oh, yes, that's so true.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
Well, that applies to everybody.
Damaris
Like, this is a perfect synopsis.
Rory
Geminis and Aries can see eye to eye.
Damaris
This is a great. This is a perfect synopsis. You're both luxurious and trashy, involving items like a pack of cigarettes, a strappy white top, and no bra. Like, it's like the girl that.
Peach
It's the Lower east side girls that.
Damaris
Grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, but lives in, like, the junkie Chinatown place with, like, two roommates and doesn't really have a job, but never has to worry about money. She's writing a screen, but pretend she's broken.
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
But also just wears, like, YSL and Chanel. Yeah. And then, like, you know, and then she, like, gets faced in Dime Square, but then goes home to Connecticut and has, like, a service team.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
She only smokes cigarettes when she's drinking.
Damaris
Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Mal
She goes, not my vape.
Damaris
I don't know.
Mal
And gets lit top. And then, like, she calls and have some. Bring an IV to her, like, yes. Apartment.
Damaris
That's Brad. As having an IV getting dripped into your veins in a shitty windowless apartment in Chinatown.
Rory
Every pregame in her kitchen when you're ready to go out, she goes, don't worry. Know the dj?
Damaris
Yes, I'm the dj. That's the. Yeah.
Peach
Yeah.
Mal
He just left our house. Like, literally.
Rory
He's DJ SL, my coke dealer.
Damaris
But the DJ is 45 and figured it out. Yeah. It's not weird yet, but it is.
Peach
So New York City.
Rory
And they think he's cool because he has, like, a luxury apartment in Williamsburg, but it's actually just a studio. But it has big windows. Yeah. Like, he made it, but he's 48.
Damaris
I'm literally talking about just guys that I know in the scene.
Mal
And after. After the club, they go get, like, the best tacos from a taco truck.
Rory
100%.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
And say, this is so us.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
You know why I'm here?
Mal
Yeah. Sit style on the sidewalk and eat tacos after the club. I get it.
Rory
And they're like, you go to Eponana, mama? I go to the truck.
Damaris
Like, I love empanada, mama.
Rory
So do I.
Damaris
The Toro. Shout out to the Toro.
Rory
All right. Well, yeah, I mean, I guess we're all brat. It was the year of the Brat.
Mal
Yeah. I didn't know. I didn't realize I was a Brett. Thank you.
Rory
Chinese. Year of the Brat.
Damaris
Oh, that was love. Love.
Rory
Love Island USA season six phenomenon. Yeah. I mean, that. That did ring off.
Mal
No. Love is blind. Better be on this clay. Better be on this list.
Rory
Was that. That was this year?
Damaris
Was that this year?
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Jesus.
Mal
That was January, February.
Peach
This is a long at the altar.
Mal
Clay is a legend. He better be on this list, man.
Rory
Wait, so this is gonna be the first Christmas of him going home after that incident?
Mal
Yes.
Rory
I feel like that was two years ago.
Mal
No, that was this year.
Rory
Wait, so they. So Love is Blind? Like they had a DMX year?
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Two platinum albums in one year.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Jesus Christ. Yeah, Love is Blind does deserve to be on here. This is also dark. Alec Baldwin's manslaughter charges were dismissed.
Mal
That is dark. Wasn't he just on SNL last night?
Damaris
What? No way.
Mal
Yes, he was.
Rory
He skipped all the trump, so I doubt that he's been.
Mal
Alec Baldwin was on SNL last night.
Damaris
Oh, wow.
Rory
I mean, when he was on SNL last night. But he wasn't doing it when he was out on bail. This is like not guilty.
Mal
I don't know. He was there last night. I know that.
Rory
Listen, man, was that one of the weirdest cases. I know it was covered non stop, but it's still. I never really got answers of that. I don't believe Alec Baldwin should be criminally charged for that. I can see a civil suit because you were the producer and in charge of the safety. That was there. But criminally? If you hand me a gun that's not supposed to have any bullets in it and we could see.
Mal
That's not my fault. There's no way for me to tell.
Rory
I guess you should check it, but that's the rules. You're the person that hands it to me is supposed to do that.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Who is the person that handed it to him? We get every John Doe name in the world. Who the handed him a loaded gun on a set and why was it a girl?
Peach
Some girl. Andrea something. We knew, we talked about it.
Rory
They. They skipped over that to just focus on Alec Baldwin.
Damaris
So technically it's a girl's fault.
Rory
Yes, it is. Why are you handing me a loaded gun on a set?
Peach
But that's also expecting that she knew was. You don't know who loaded it? How is she?
Rory
Well, that's my question. Like with all these trials, who the loaded the gun? That's not the main question here. I know Alec Baldwin's the most famous.
Mal
One here, but I'm pretty sure that came up. It had to come up in the.
Damaris
Oh, for sure.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Why is that person?
Damaris
Not criminally, but it wasn't actually a bullet. Right. It was a blank. Because those things can be lethal. The fake. It wasn't a real bullet.
Rory
It wasn't with some. Some that shouldn't have been in a gun, I'll tell you that. A blank does not do that.
Mal
I thought it was the same thing that happened to Brandon Lee. No.
Peach
Okay, I found it. So the film's armorer, the person that's in charge of ammunition and stuff on set, Hannah G. Reed, accidentally mixed up dummy bullets with live ammunition that she had brought from home.
Damaris
Right. That's crazy.
Peach
Now, she wanted Shorty dead.
Rory
And that's what I'm saying. We focused on Alec Baldwin, which I understand, but why is that not more of the story? Why did that woman just, with her lunch from home, just brought, like, live.
Damaris
Ammunition, a loose Ziploc bag, and then.
Rory
Like, if that's your job and you're an expert on it, you're just gonna mix that up?
Peach
That doesn't even make sense.
Mal
So she didn't face no criminal charges?
Peach
No.
Rory
That's like DP mixing up a lens. Like, they don't study that for a living.
Damaris
She was just like, oopsies.
Mal
Yeah, like I. Brad.
Peach
Yeah, definitely. Brat.
Damaris
That is so brat.
Mal
No. I don't know.
Rory
Sometimes you have to live life, man. Just go with the flow.
Mal
Somebody died.
Damaris
We can't. When you mix up the bullets. Teehee. And someone dies.
Rory
Peace. What. What's. What's the tinfoil hat theory on this? Because that's another thing. I see all the conspiracy theories. I never even really saw one on this because it doesn't make any sense. And you, the conspiracy theory world, makes that out of anything and everything. Why one? Is a woman allowed? Never mind. It's the end of the year, man.
Mal
I'm with you.
Rory
It was a joke.
Mal
I'm with you. Why are they in charge of guns?
Rory
Why was she also not charged?
Peach
She was charged. I wanted to go back and reiterate. So she was charged. She was convicted, too, of involuntary manslaughter for the killing of cinematographer Helena and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Mal
That sounds about right.
Rory
Weed dealers get more than that.
Mal
I mean, you know, but.
Rory
Well, yeah, that was.
Mal
That's because of taxes.
Rory
Quite the moment. The coconut tree meme with Kamala's picture. I don't know what that means.
Damaris
Kamala.
Rory
Kamala.
Peach
Do you think I just fell out of a coconut tree? Oh, I never understood the big thing with that either. I don't know, Gen Z. The things that they make, like, big is just.
Damaris
Guys remember Kamala? Remember when that was a thing?
Rory
The fact that that's not on the. Well, it may be on this list.
Damaris
Later, but, like, remember when she raised a billion Dollars. You do that went nowhere.
Mal
You helped her.
Rory
Outside of, like, Kendrick and Drake. Number one on this list should have been. Hey, do you remember when the president dropped out of the fucking presidential race three months before election time? And then his vice president.
Mal
That's not on this list.
Rory
Got a billion fucking. No coconut tree is.
Mal
Oh, my God.
Rory
Trump got shot.
Mal
Maybe that has to be on his list.
Rory
Well, no. 2024, Paris Olympics.
Damaris
That shit was lit.
Rory
Ends with US controversy.
Damaris
I love the.
Mal
Wait, wait, wait, wait. What is this, like, numbered?
Rory
No, this is going through.
Mal
Trump getting shot is not on this list.
Damaris
We don't know yet.
Rory
We shall see. I didn't go all the way through. Okay, it ends with US controversy. I don't even remember this.
Damaris
Oh, she's so funny. Update on this. They had a really weird thing. Remember they had a sexual assault thing? I don't know. She's suing him now. She's. Blake Lively is suing the. This guy, an actor from the film, over that film.
Peach
So, yeah, their rollout was really weird. I never knew. And Netflix keeps, like, recommending it to me. It's, like, to the point where. Okay, Netflix. I'm gonna watch it. I'll watch it.
Rory
Is that where Shame Moore got his rollout from? Get to that as well. Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck. Huge cultural moment.
Peach
How is that, like. That's been a huge cultural moment ten times already every year.
Rory
It's like Groundhog Day. We know it's coming.
Damaris
They're gonna be back together.
Peach
Yeah, for sure.
Rory
Puff is arrested. Jimmy Carter turns 100. That was up what y'all did to Jimmy Carter, bringing him, wheeling him out to the White House like that. A dead body.
Mal
Just let people. Let people just be in their homes, man. 100 years old. You don't. We don't have to see him outside.
Rory
It's fine. And we have, like, zoom. And now.
Mal
Yeah, just zoom them in, right?
Rory
Dark. Liam Payne dies. Jake Paul defeats Mike Tyson. Glicked. I don't know what the that is.
Damaris
Oh, they tried to remake Barbenheimer. Gladiator, Gladiator, and Wicked.
Rory
Oh, it's together.
Peach
Well, I don't blame him because he read it, right?
Damaris
Yes, but Glick.
Peach
It is stupid.
Rory
The moment.
Damaris
Has anyone seen Gladiator 2?
Mal
Yeah, I saw it.
Damaris
What, you think I haven't seen it yet?
Mal
It was cool.
Damaris
I heard it was.
Mal
It's not bad. It's not better than Part one, obviously, but it wasn't. It wasn't terrible.
Peach
It wasn't Denzel.
Mal
He did his thing. But Denzel is at that point where he's just. You know when somebody is so cool in real life, like, you see them in a movie, you're like, that's Denzel. I don't care what your name of your character is. It's like, yo, Denzel. They wasn't walking like that back in those days. Like, you walking cool. You walking in the coliseum all cool.
Rory
And, like, calling people my man.
Mal
Yeah, you got waves. He had waves. He had a diamond earring. I'm like, yo, what we doing? You like. You just put on some and walked in front of the kid. You chilling.
Rory
He was drinking Ardbeg Scotch.
Mal
Yeah, man. It's like, I can't. He just. At that point, man. Denzel is just way too cool, man. He's way too cool, man.
Rory
I do want to see it, but I'm not going in with high hopes. Even with people telling me it sucks, I still want to see it.
Mal
I thought Denzel was a pimp. I'm like, he pimping. They was. He was pimping back in the Coliseum days. Good hair.
Rory
I mean, good gobs on.
Mal
I'm like, you got garbs? Are those garbs? That what you call those, cuz? You know, back then, it was either if you didn't have money, it was rags. You was just wearing. Whatever. This had his tailored. I'm like, this. I'll cut the.
Rory
Was there even. Was it technically called a pimp back then? Because there was no sex trafficking. It was just like, we're stuck in traffic right now. Yeah, it was like, he wasn't a pimp. He was just a king.
Mal
He was the king.
Rory
That's all just a regular job.
Mal
Yeah, but it was okay.
Rory
The ERAS tour ends who. That was rough, yo. That's the end of the list. No, they don't have. Shut up, Donald.
Mal
I swear to God, that is fucking.
Damaris
Wait, so Taylor Swift has two moments basically on this list, and Trump getting.
Mal
Shot is not on this list.
Rory
She has three moments.
Peach
The assassination of the president. Well, the attempted assassination of the president.
Rory
You're not feeling Al Roker's list.
Mal
Yo, how is this.
Peach
So what I'm going to say is that I think that this is just pop culture. I think I got popped.
Rory
The most famous president in fucking history who's gotten more cliques than any human being. Kamala maybe being shot in the ear.
Peach
But it's not Kamala. About Kamala. Anything having to do with her presidential race. It's about the. The young Gen Z turning her into A meme.
Damaris
There's a cancer diagn gnosis on here.
Mal
Like, yeah, like.
Peach
Yeah, but it's about people.
Damaris
That is politics. This is a political post.
Peach
Yeah.
Mal
Trump getting shy.
Peach
I agree.
Mal
Is not being on this list is absolutely crazy. This is what I'm trying to tell you, bro. We not. This is. None of this is real. We're living in assimilation.
Rory
This is not their defense, though. We kind of moved on within 48 hours.
Mal
That's why I'm saying this is craziness. Obviously, we moved on. He's not even on the list.
Rory
And also, my man Luigi, I know he just put out his deluxe, but.
Mal
Yeah, he just dropped. He just dropped.
Rory
That was enough time for me for him to make this.
Mal
But he just dropped.
Rory
I know Sza couldn't make.
Mal
Luigi.
Rory
That was an instant classic.
Mal
Yeah, but you gotta live with it.
Rory
We thought Blueprint was an instant classic on 9 11. Yeah, that was our.
Mal
What was. What was the names he put on the bullet? That's the name of his ep, Deny. What was it?
Damaris
Delay the die. Delay. I don't know what the.
Rory
Defend.
Mal
That's a gangster name for EP right there. Luigi. Luigi Rollout was crazy.
Rory
Produced by Rock Marciano for sure. Defend. Deny.
Mal
Definitely lo fi. It's lo fi music behind that.
Rory
Well, that's fun. Shout out to the Today Show. I'm sure you guys. I'm sure you guys.
Mal
Yeah, that's crazy, man.
Rory
But yeah, I just wanted to find some quick recap of this year that would be silly and funny, but, God, was that not it whatsoever?
Mal
Yeah, that was crazy.
Rory
Do you guys want to get into Scissor or talk about Shamik Moore being a weirdo? We can close music, I guess. Yeah.
Mal
Get into scissor.
Rory
We are recording this on the 22nd scissors album. Came out a day and a half ago, technically.
Mal
Sza, I just want you to know that I am upset at you. I should not be in my shower as a grown man from the Bronx, New York, singing Scorsese Baby Daddy to the top of my lungs songs.
Rory
It's a joint.
Mal
Like, why sister doing this? She just gonna make you sing that. You ain't supposed to be singing. I'm not supposed to be singing that.
Rory
That's a thing with you and you only.
Peach
Every time he in the shower, though, body wet.
Rory
Well, that's.
Mal
Yeah, but it's like. Because the music is on and that is like, start thumping you like, this is knocking. I'm full of suds. Hey, you know, you gotta get a good lather, you know?
Rory
But again, That's a you thing. Because even like, like trying to think of an egregious one sza the weekend. Like, I sing that with my heart. And that's. I'm singing about a guy on the weekend.
Mal
Yeah, that's.
Peach
You're actually thinking about being a side one of three.
Rory
But I mean, the melody is so great. Why can't I sing along?
Mal
And then she got the other one. We're still on the Chill Baby.
Peach
I haven't heard the album.
Rory
If I rap along to gangsta rap lyrics that I don't participate in real life.
Damaris
Crybaby.
Mal
Wait, Damaris hasn't heard the Scissor album yet.
Damaris
Oh, Chill Baby is on here.
Peach
I'm not, I don't. I, I, I. I'm a huge Scissor fan. I really, really love Scissor, but I'm not in the right mental state to be listening to that.
Mal
Wait, what happened? You okay?
Peach
Life. But I just, I'm not in a. I don't listen to. I don't.
Mal
Like, I feel like that's what you're.
Peach
Supposed to listen to when I'm sad. No.
Mal
Yeah.
Peach
No.
Mal
And you go in the shower and cry. So you put the hot water on. Nobody know you crying?
Peach
Nope. I've been listening to Disney soundtracks.
Rory
The steam gets rid of the tears. You don't even know you're crying.
Mal
You don't even know it's not running. It's okay. Let the water hit you.
Peach
It's all right if nobody's around to see the tear hit the ground. Like, did I cry?
Mal
No. But the soil is happy.
Peach
Peach don't. In my earling the porcelain of the.
Rory
The shower.
Peach
But I'm. It's good. You guys are saying. Everybody's saying that it's good.
Rory
The soil, those salty tears.
Peach
So why do you guys think that it's a deluxe and not a brand new album right here? Keep hearing Roy Said.
Mal
Now I will say I do wish that this would have been a whole separate thing from SOS though.
Damaris
It's 46 minutes of new music.
Mal
Yeah, no, it's. It's great music. Like, it sounds great. The 30 for 30 joint with Kendrick is dope against Scorsese. Baby. Daddy, chill, baby. She got. It's some joints on here, man. But I just, you know, attaching it to SOS I think is the one. And I get it. You know, the whole streaming era changes the way music is released. You know, artists got to play the game too. I get that. But I just wish this would have been a whole different Thing on its own.
Peach
Music is great, but how does it.
Mal
Because then it flows right into the original SOS So kind of like you still on this vibe of this new thing, this new energy that SZA's on. It's not completely foreign, though, to SOS no, it flows well with it. But, you know, I just want. I wanted to experience it as an entirely different thing.
Peach
You have a whole new Scissor era.
Mal
A whole new. You know what I mean? Like, I get it though. I understand it in. In as far as like the sound and the music, it definitely goes together.
Rory
So why I think it's a properly named, a deluxe. It almost felt like disc two, like this could have been a double album because it doesn't feel like a new Scissor era. It felt like it was completing the SOS era. She had tweeted out. SOS equals her, Lana equals Healing, which you can definitely hear in these records. I think some of these were probably done during sos Some are new. Scissors Pen is, in my opinion, one of. By far one of the best pens period. And I think she's only getting better at writing. But as far as sonically and even the content, it feels like a completed SOS album. Like, this could have been a double disc. It doesn't feel like a completely new scissor era. Like, I don't know if Lana and. And this is coming from someone saying, I don't think she's incapable of making a bad song. I fucking love this already.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
I don't know if this could stand alone. It would feel weird as just a SZA album. It's too connected to SOS in my opinion. So you feel it's not. It's not a third project in that regard. I totally see outside of the new streaming rules and doing what's best for numbers. This does feel like the second disc of SOS rather than the way Control and SOS feel like completely different eras in SZA's life and even sonically differently. That Lana is too close to SOS I'd probably be giving her not shit because I do like it. If this was a standalone because you'd.
Peach
Feel like there's no growth or.
Rory
No, no, there's plenty of growth, especially in the writing and what she's talking about coming off sos I'm with her on that tweet. SOS hurt as fuck. This is not completed Healing, but it's the start of that process. And you can hear it in the content, but it is very much connected to SOS in that Regard. I think the separate SZA album would be the healed version, not the. I'm trying to start to heal coming off this. So I think it makes very much sense for it to be the SOS Deluxe. Because I'm sure. I mean, we don't know, but I'm sure there was a conversation in the studio, like, all right, I have 15 records. Like, this could just be another one. And it's been like, oh, this isn't a new scissor era. This is the same era of coming out of horrible choices and deciding that maybe I. I'm the problem and I should move on from the shit that I continue to do.
Mal
But why? Why isn't it a new scissor error? Why do you feel like it's not a new scissor error?
Rory
Well, she's too attached to.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
The stuff that she was dealing with on sos it feels like the same conversation in a good way. Feels like a double disc to me. Okay, so I get it. And even sonically, too, it feels very SOS Be like, she. She's really good at making completed songs. Also feel like demos in a good way, though. I don't know if that's gonna sound like I'm hating, but she's. With the SOS era, she made demos sound incredible, and that feels like this style as well.
Mal
How much of this you think she wrote during the whole, you know, sequencing and picking which songs were gonna go on the original sos vs how many new songs she wrote post sos?
Rory
The way she was talking how sos was done for a while before we got it, I think she probably just capped herself off with SOS and was still working. I think some of these were done during the exact same time, but some. I'm thinking she was. When we were listening to sos, she was still working.
Damaris
I would argue most of these are from that SOS record, because she said she recorded over 100 songs for SOS so I love.
Mal
I love the deluxe, though.
Rory
And even, like, I think SZA would also run into the problem. Just thinking how, like, fans critique artists so much because the sound is so similar to SOS if she put this out, people would critique her in saying, oh, you're giving us more of the same.
Peach
They would know that they were throwaways. Not throwaways, but they would. The fans listen too much. They'll be like, nah, you wrote these months ago. Yeah, like, this was done with. With sos So I get what you're saying.
Rory
SZA does an incredible job. And let me not Try to compare her to a man because that's where the feminists start to hate me. So I won't justice a compliment. She does an amazing job of making sure her words cut through and are above the instrumentals. And she's really good. And it's going to sound like hate, but it's not picking very simplistic production that makes sure her words shine.
Damaris
Who does hate because she's such a.
Rory
Good writer that sometimes you don't need busy beats. That may sound like some shit somebody wants to hear right now. The words are more important.
Damaris
Who are you going to Compare to Frank?
Rory
Two. Two artists. Frank and Early Drake. Okay, Drake. I'll give 40 the credit. 40 was really good at making sure Drake's words cut through and were above the beat because what he was saying was so important. Let's. Let's do lo Fi instrumentals that are very, very simple in a good way. They hit they're fire, but simple because the words are what you should be following right now. SZA is incredible at doing that too. And she did it all over this one. She smoked this. I loved it from the first listen.
Mal
Do we think we get a entirely new scissor project before tour starts?
Rory
Yeah.
Damaris
Yes. Because didn't she also say. She announced, tweeted. She said, I'm putting out my deluxe and then expect a new album from me. So I think to Roy, your point, like she's closing the loop on the SOS chapter. The next iteration of SZA will be the new version of her.
Mal
It will be Lana.
Damaris
Will be Lana. Fully.
Mal
Well, it's always Lana.
Damaris
Yeah. Yeah.
Rory
But yeah, I think this album is incredible. Again, we've only had a day and a half to listen to it, but it's dope. It's been. Been on repeat. Chill Baby is my favorite. That pocket is nuts.
Mal
Chill Baby is crazy.
Rory
Crybaby I saw was a lot of people's favorite. Drive to me is fire. I see why that was the first video, but this is. It's. It's dope. And I. I love the more accountability that that closes up the SOS chapter. Prediction time with Sizza in watching other new legends and what they've gone through the last 10 years without fans critique music. Does she run into a similar problem that Drake did run into where you've delivered so much with a specific sound for so long that people may start critiquing you for that exact sound?
Mal
I don't think that she'll run into. It's not. I wouldn't say a problem I just think that that sound is just, you know, what we know and love. I think that that's dope. When artists are able to create that type of thing where you hear something, you hear a song, you're like, that sounds like a blank record or a blank song. I think that there's nothing wrong. I don't think there's anything to critique there. I think that's just who she is. That's the type of music. That's her, the zone that she's in. I think the music is just good music, man. I don't.
Rory
I don't care. I just know how fickle fans are. And the more you give them of great music, they will find a way to dislike it.
Mal
Like, oh, we heard this already.
Damaris
Yeah, I like the original version of this more.
Mal
Like, this sounds like a watered down.
Damaris
Version of the first time.
Rory
And I don't know if that comes from a production level because I feel like Sza Penwise has constantly evolved. Like, we get exactly who she is at every moment, and she's grown as a writer in that regard. Content based, but production based. Does she give us her love below, where everything goes completely left of what we've ever heard from her. Because control and sos yes, sonically they are different, but they're not drastically fucking right. They're just both unique in their own right. But still, this is a sound that we love. The more you deliver great music like that, she doesn't have a bad album in her catalog.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
If we're even considering Lana somewhat of a third project, I could see her running into that.
Mal
No, do you. Were you mad that we weren't in Seattle when this dropped?
Rory
Oh, no. I walked down in the snow.
Damaris
Yo, it was snowing. I thought of you guys. It snowed. It was like rainy, snowy. That entire day came out, I was like, oh, this is like, yeah, basically what happened when SOS came out.
Mal
Just the New York version knows. She knows the people at NASA.
Damaris
So just because we love Mess and we always have to compare everybody to everyone is after this album. And now we have more from Siza in terms of her compared to her contemporaries like Summer and like Ari and the. The women of her era. Where is she in that? Is she, like, pulling away or, like, what's that in terms of, like, ranking?
Mal
I think it's. That's not fair. Only because I think SZA's sound is a little wider and more broad than a summer. Summer sound is very unique and very particular to a certain genre and certain type of person or Woman, scissors sound. You know, you got young white teenage girls could sing some of these songs. You got, you know, older black women can sing these songs. Like it's.
Damaris
We keep bringing up Drake, but it's like she can fulfill. She serves a bunch of people.
Mal
She can serve a wider variety of consumers. To me, how you guys talk about.
Peach
Sorry, go ahead.
Rory
Which is so odd because like Summer's music to me is so polished in a good way that you would think that she would be more of the pop crossover. SZA to me is a pop star in her own right. But I would have never guessed that moving in because so much of her sound down to her production is like lo fi, MF doom shit. Like she's an underground rapper, pop artist, R B singer. But it's so crazy. I love that that sound has made it into a crossover world. This shit is like mad lib.
Peach
But it's for the same exact reason of what you just said. Yes, she does use those lo fi beats, but it's so that her words can cut through. And in the conversation that we were just having about Taylor Swift earlier, off mic, Taylor Swift's music and like Mal said, all of the audiences that it when you do I'm a self hating, angsty teenage girl, shit, it will hit. And that's what SZA makes. SZA makes it, in my opinion, in a more talented way than Taylor Swift does. But it's the same kind of thing. Like, oh my God, I'm awkward and I'm weird and I like this cool guy and I don't know what to do and I'm toxic and I'm like unhealed and I'm gonna him up, but I love him and like I'm gonna be a hoe and that. Like, that what Taylor Swift makes, like, that's what SZA makes. Just in a more palatable.
Mal
Taylor Swift is like, it's like, you know, the microwavable, like pizza rolls. And SZA is like empanadas, like a good dip that the Spanish lady who.
Peach
Speaks no English made.
Mal
Yeah. Like you make the crust and you use the fork to get the ridges on the edge of the crust. Like that's what SZA is.
Rory
And when it's served Taylor's like pizza rolls.
Mal
I gotta go right now. Throw those in. Boom, bam, bam, down. I'm out of here. You know, it's still good. It'll do the job. But it's kind of like, you know, if you get a homemade empanada and.
Rory
It'S served hot and the Oil, like, burns your hand. The moment.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Through the paper.
Mal
Yeah, yeah.
Rory
Like, why did I even bite that.
Mal
In the brown bag? You need that. Yeah, absolutely.
Rory
But, yeah, I mean, I guess, to answer your question, SZA's had a longer time, I feel like, to do more of the crossover thing, but I. Summer still has her classic album. I think over is a classic and did cross over. I think both of them stick to exactly who they are. And to your point, Damaris, I think Sizza might be a little bit more palatable and relatable to the masses than, say, a summer would, But I still think they're both like, the. The big two of R B and both incredibly talented and both have classics. They're just. They're different R B artists to me.
Peach
Yeah.
Rory
Summer's a bit more traditional, which these days, unfortunately, traditional R and B is tougher to cut through. Through. Yeah, but I mean, Summer still has pop joints that go.
Mal
I know for sure.
Rory
So, yeah, I don't. I don't really know if I can answer that question as far as.
Damaris
Yeah, maybe it's too early. Bring that up.
Rory
Sizzle by numbers. Yes, I would say that. But let's not act like, didn't summer sell, like, 400,000 on the last go or some.
Mal
Only her and Beyonce did at the time or something like that, which was crazy.
Peach
Yeah.
Rory
But I mean, I think R B is in an amazing place if those two women are the face of it.
Mal
So, I mean, politics. If they ever decide to have a show together, I'll be there. Yeah.
Peach
We know. It's so funny.
Rory
You went to Summer's first Toronto show, like, absolutely. I think there was 100 people.
Mal
No, no, it was more than 100 people in there. It was definitely more than 100 people that.
Peach
And you was rocking with. With Summer even when she was being, you know, ridiculed because she didn't know how to perform.
Mal
So. Man, that. That. That's. What was this? Over it.
Peach
Over it. Yeah, over it.
Mal
Over it in Toronto, man. That was that. That show. Yeah.
Rory
I thought it was the first one when we, like, we all went to the first one.
Peach
It is the first one over is.
Rory
I'm talking about what's the eps. I can see the COVID in my head.
Peach
So Over Is the first one still over is the second week. Are you talking about Clear?
Rory
Clear, yes.
Mal
No, it was over it.
Rory
I'm saying Clear. We went to Bowery Ballroom for that.
Mal
Oh, yeah.
Rory
For Clear.
Mal
Yeah, yeah.
Rory
We've been on Summer.
Mal
Oh, yeah.
Rory
She had, like, three records.
Mal
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I watched over in Toronto. Oh, my God.
Damaris
I went to. When SZA came Chicago during the Control tour. She did Lincoln. Lincoln hall in Chicago. I went to that show and Smino was the opener. Summer Scissor.
Mal
Okay.
Damaris
So I saw the Control. She did all the control. And then I didn't know who Smee was at the time. It was the Black Swan SME now. And he went up there was the opener. And everyone in the crowd's like, oh, this dude is ill. And then like, you know, he's from St. Louis, like Chicago, so they all. More. More people knew him there than I did. But that was. That was one of those shows. I was like, I don't really know these artists. And I saw both of them. I was like, this is a depth. They're good.
Mal
Good.
Rory
Isn't it always refreshing when you get like a good opener? When you're sitting there, like waiting in line for a drink and it's crowdy like, all right, come on, where's the headliner? Oh, okay, this is refreshing. Yeah, I could rock with this. This is cool. What's his ig?
Damaris
Yeah, and I love an opener where the genre is slightly different than the headline because you can kind of serve. Like, I get my fix of my rap and then. All right, sweet. When it's time for like, SZA just did Control. I'm like, this is nice. You get a nice mix of. Instead of the opener. Usually just sounds like a less successful version of the headliner.
Rory
When was the last time that happened with you guys with an opener? That was really, really good.
Damaris
Didn't you have one?
Peach
Yes.
Damaris
Yeah. What was that guy's name for?
Peach
His name, and that's gonna bother me, but yeah.
Mal
What show was it?
Peach
A Keanu Lade show.
Mal
Okay.
Rory
Okay.
Peach
He had a really. She had a really good opener. His name starts with a T. He's gonna kill me. Because I think he listens to this podcast, but yeah, he's gonna kill you. Oh, really good.
Rory
Last time I went to Wiley's show at Irving Plaza this year, and I mean, he's the opener, is sort of well known artist. Like, he just put a song out with James Blake, but it's still very much on the come up. Suave is incredible. He won an entire crowd over. Cause that shit was packed like this. They oversold. You could see the crowd was getting antsy and he. That's an art to control a bunch of people that don't know who the fuck you are with your music. He smoked that.
Mal
Oh, you know what? There was an Artist at Nick Grant's show here in New York. Damn, he was incredible. I meant to get his music and send it to you because I know you would like him. Okay, hold on.
Rory
To this day, the greatest opener I ever saw that. I was like, this guy's a fucking superstar. We brought him up a few episodes ago. Bob had no idea who the fuck he was. He was opening up for Quali and Little Brother at the time. Best Buy Theater.
Mal
Wow.
Rory
Or before it was Best Buy, whatever the it was. It's what, PlayStation now or some. Yeah, he won a whole crowd over. This was before he had any hits. I think he had written the ti and Ludicrous hook and he'd performed that. I was like, oh, I've heard this before. And then he brought his guitar out.
Mal
He.
Rory
It was the best opening set I've ever seen in my life. Then he ended up getting the double XL cover. And I was like, oh, yeah, this makes sense. This guy's a fucking star. Bob, by far, greatest opener.
Damaris
He's not, like, super small, but I just came across a while ago a friend I drinks with, works with him. This kid, Gene Dawson. He has this album called Glimmer of God. It's the best way to say the next Tizo. Touchdown.
Rory
Okay.
Damaris
Super good. Like Eclectic. It's pop. There's guitar riffs, there's rap. Like, it's very. It's fun. Like, there's a lot going on in a good way.
Rory
Yeah. Saw this guy, K dot rap in the SOB's crowd after a jrock show. That was kind of cool. He turned out to be okay.
Damaris
What year was that?
Rory
2009.
Damaris
Damn.
Mal
Isaiah Stone.
Rory
No, maybe fall. 2008.
Mal
That's his name. He opened for Nick.
Rory
Isaiah Stone.
Mal
Isaiah Stone. Talented, incredible. His story, his life story is incredible. If you haven't heard of Isaiah Stone, definitely get in tune with his music. He's incredible artist.
Rory
Also, that. This was years ago, I think. Benny's first SOB show. That was completely. The fire marshal should have been there.
Mal
He had sobs.
Rory
He. It was Benny's, like, first real. Like, Benny's the next guy. Like, we were even on the old pod. This is a long time ago. We all went. That was packed. He had about 15 openers. That would usually annoy the out of me. Every person came up and was incredible. I was like, all right, man. This is better than the show.
Peach
While Stove got open him.
Rory
I don't think Stove. God did. It was actually a lot of kids from, like, Far Rockaway. It wasn't all just upstate guys but that was another time. I can remember all the openers being incredible, but, you know, I don't know how we got down.
Mal
No, this is at 19.
Peach
Everybody paused the phone. You be doing rap show hostings?
Rory
Oh, I was front row. Just cuz Mo was hosting.
Mal
I hosted.
Rory
Benny came out with a new jacket, too.
Damaris
I've never seen that jacket. How long was the coat? I know you had a long coat.
Rory
It was. It was a long show.
Mal
No, it was mini show. It was a Highline Ballroom. Yeah.
Peach
Came out and said, what you say?
Mal
No, Sony Hall. I don't remember. I don't know. I was high.
Rory
If I remember correctly, you didn't really say much. They had openers. And then you came out and just like introduced Benny, and I think, yeah, we all.
Peach
That seems like something I would do.
Mal
I cracked a couple jokes. You know, I got some jokes off, but then, you know, you're looking at a bunch of niggas from Buffalo. You're like, you know what? I'm gonna go ahead and get to the back, let y'all listen to Benny, let me get out y'all way. I don't wanna disturb you beautiful people in here tonight.
Rory
Yeah, that was just.
Peach
It wasn't no bitches in there.
Mal
It was a couple. You'd be surprised. It was a couple in there.
Peach
They belong to some people.
Mal
Well, they was there with their man, their boyfriend, you know. You know, it's the same with us. When girls come to the show, we be like, we're sorry. We know you don't know who we are. We just disturb your house every week. But, you know, thank you for coming me. That type of vibe.
Rory
All right, we can get into this Shamik Moore situation, which I walked in thinking Damaris was going to be on 10 about this, and she hadn't even heard about it yet. So Shamik Moore, who does the voice for Spider man, whatever that series is, the Spider Verse also played Raekwon in the Wu Tang series, which I thought he was great in.
Mal
I wasn't in the get up on Netflix.
Rory
I was not aware that he was moving crazy on these sets. Not crazy like Matt Lauer crazy.
Mal
What did he do? Man? He. He put up a picture, left it up after the. The young lady asked him to take it down.
Damaris
It was a video.
Rory
Put up a video that. That was alluding that they may be together. And I guess there was also reports of him not, like, hitting on her on some nasty shit before, but he's been alluding to this romance for some time. Time. And this woman can we get her name?
Damaris
Because she's a great actress, isn't it? Laura Harrier.
Rory
She was great in Black Klansmen. And yeah, she's amazing. She came on, ate a whole bowl of soup in one Tick Tock video and explained that she's engaged. I asked him to take that video down. You're trying to insinuate something. I'm not comfortable with it. Take it down. He left it up. Then he came back on, put his hand over his face and was like, nah, it's a misunderstanding. You edited that whole video by yourself and put the music on it. You know what you was doing?
Mal
The weird thing that I didn't understand what Shamik did was deleting his social media. Like, what is it? I didn't think this was that serious to delete your social media. Like, I cool. You left something up. It looks the type of way the actress, you know, posted a video, called you a weirdo. Called you a weirdo. All right, cool. But delete all your social media.
Rory
But that's not strange with that woman.
Mal
To delete your social media for that. Now, when he did something and, like, assaulted her, then I could understand that.
Rory
Like, I'm not saying that or putting that on his jacket, but for a woman that does not do that type of social media shit, for her to make that video, I think there's more that we don't really know about. And that was her warning of saying, yo, I told him to take it down. He needs to take it down. I think that was her. We could go here if you really want to. And his response was, well heard you loud and clear. Let me delete all my social media before you tell the world what happened.
Peach
I don't even think. Rory, I think you putting too much into it.
Mal
Yeah, I'm not jacking that.
Peach
You're free to do that. But I think that he just didn't. He's getting a bunch of backlash. And instead of dealing with the backlash. Cause you could just, like Ma used to say, Ma used like, just get off your phone. You could just delete your social media app so that you're not. You don't have to deal with all of that backlash from all of these people commenting shit. Or if you deactivate, you don't have to go and delete all those comments. Because if I delete my social media, people still have access to comment. A bunch of shit. So now people are going on your social media who might not even know about what the fuck is going on. And everybody's calling you all types of creep weirdo rapists.
Rory
Yeah, but this, well, that's unfair to call him a. A rapist.
Mal
They're calling him that.
Peach
I'm not calling him that. Yeah, y'all know how to Internet.
Mal
No, but I'm saying this is that. Are they actively calling him that right now?
Peach
People are weird. People say all types of things.
Mal
That's crazy. If they doing that. That's wild.
Peach
People. People say all. All types of.
Mal
But here's why I don't understand that. Because deleting your social media. Like, like does what? Like, what is that? So you're gonna come back and act like you know nothing never had. Like, I don't think this is that serious.
Peach
People just need a break. It's. He's embarrassed. He's probably humiliated because you did some lame shit.
Mal
Yeah, but that shit happens for 20, 24 hours. Trump got shot. He didn't even make the list.
Peach
Shamika, I'm sure he'll be back soon. But he deleted it. He doesn't want people commented. I'm sure he doesn't want people commenting a bunch of. On his page. And he's embarrassed and he's gonna take a break from social media. I think that more people should take breaks from social media.
Mal
Yeah, take a break, but don't delete your social media.
Peach
I also think always reactivate. It's not cover.
Mal
But I'm just. I just. That's just cr. I don't know. That's. To me, that's just that. That's the weird shit, I think deleting your social media.
Rory
Like, I think the weird shit is the non deleting of. If my coworker asked me, hey, I'm engaged. Can you take that?
Mal
She said, delete the. The picture, not your whole. She has to delete the picture, not the whole.
Rory
Because he didn't listen to his co worker being like, hey, that makes me uncomfortable. And I think you're sending a wrong message. I'm engaged. I'm uncomfortable with this. This type of post that you didn't even ask me you could do.
Mal
Okay, what was the post?
Rory
And he doesn't take it down.
Mal
What was the post?
Rory
Then he should have deleted that or he wouldn't have to delete his social media. We wouldn't have even known about this.
Mal
What was the post?
Damaris
I can't find the original.
Mal
What was. What was like inappropriate on the post?
Damaris
This right here. M. Like some red carpet or some event and someone.
Peach
They took a picture.
Damaris
Someone's filming them and they're like, you Know they're close to each other.
Mal
So they're at an event on a red carpet and somebody took a picture.
Damaris
They're laughing, smiling. It looks like it could be misconstrued as intimate.
Peach
So some. Somebody was. They were on a red carpet taking a picture together. Somebody took a. Filmed a video of them taking the picture. And he put like some sensual R B music behind the video and posted coming soon. And then the video was from like years ago. Like, that happened like a year and a half, two years ago.
Rory
Yeah, it was weird. Mo I saw the video. It definitely felt. Even objectively knowing what the context was. Cause I don't like, follow him or kept up with. With it. I saw the video before. It was. Everything was taken down. Yeah, it felt like that. It felt weird. If I was. If I'm sitting there with my fiance and I see your co worker post a video like that, I'd be like, yo, what the the is this? It was weird. That's odd.
Peach
And I mean, like, when she asked him to take it out and he didn't take it down, it's like, why would you. First of all, why would you post it anyway? And then why would you not take it down when I asked you to take it?
Rory
Let's even say it was all innocent and he just has a bad ear for music and how it makes people feel. Deal. And what it looks like. Cool. If your co worker asked you to take it down and you're clearly showing how close you guys are, you should immediately delete it. I don't think that's really a confidence.
Peach
And they're very obviously not that close, for sure.
Rory
But he was implying.
Mal
So they took a picture together because a movie that they're in is coming out.
Damaris
Yeah, she's also. She's also an actress in the spider verse stuff.
Peach
But that was two years ago when originally dropped. Remember when Metro did, like, the soundtrack and it went crazy. That was like two years ago.
Mal
And so he just recently posted that picture saying coming soon.
Rory
Two days ago. Yeah, three days ago.
Peach
Posted a video with sexy music behind it.
Mal
Is the spider verse coming back?
Damaris
Yeah, probably.
Mal
Is he wrong? It's not coming.
Damaris
It's just like. But you also.
Rory
I'm sure he. They would have done something from the studio when an announcement. Before he did some shit, he edited himself on his couch.
Mal
I think I'm agreeing with Rory to an extent. I think it's something else. I think there may be, like, text messages or, you know, something along that line. Or maybe, you know, she's attractive. And he, you know, probably flirted a little bit. And, you know, so I get that part.
Peach
I also think her fiance is on her ass about it and. Cause that's why she kept saying, I'm about to be married. I'm about to be married. I think her fiance probably was like, yo, what the fuck is this? And when you got somebody at home.
Rory
I think she was probably like, what the fuck is this? As well.
Peach
No, for sure.
Rory
And now you gotta deal with your partner when you didn't even do shit. Like, now this looks odd. They're gonna have questions no matter what. Like.
Peach
And on top of that, y'all acting like y'all starring in a movie where it's like, it's y'all. Y'all voice acting people ain't even know it was Y behind this.
Mal
I'm about to say, can we keep it 100 for one second? I would have never saw this post if she. We didn't. They didn't talk about that. I would have never saw that picture with him.
Rory
But again.
Peach
Well, he's big. Shamik is pretty big.
Damaris
They said he's the only Spider man that can't get.
Peach
Yeah, they were saying that before this, though, right?
Damaris
Yeah, because this is the thing. Mall. This isn't the first co star that he's tried to, like, make it advance on and. And openly flirt with. Haley Sign Steinfeld is another girl who's actually just got engaged last month to Josh Allen. So she's all right. And he's, you know, made passes at her a bunch in. In interviews, in press runs and all. And the Internet narrative kind of started with him being a creep with her. So then him seeing him do it again with another actress that he works with. People like, dude, what are you doing? Both of these women are engaged in loving relationships, and you're just like, the creepy guy at work that's like, yo, thank.
Rory
Thank God. The Wu Tang saga was about 15 men. No issues on that.
Mal
You don't think. You don't think. He hit Daviest up and was like, yo, want try and get some piff?
Rory
He would say, piff.
Mal
Shamik definitely hit David. Say, yo, you ain't got no piff.
Rory
We should rehearse lines together. You know, meth and Ray are close.
Mal
Like, see, Dave ain't going to the Internet. Dave gonna be like, yo, where you at? I'm coming to point you.
Damaris
Oh, I finally found the video. Jesus, it took forever. All right, here we go. Ignore the text on the video, because that's not a part of it. Oh, well, that's also not the original.
Rory
Video, audio, or the music. So that's. Yeah, but either way.
Damaris
But that's the video. It's like sexy R and B music and them, like, staring at each other.
Rory
Of people not knowing about this. I wouldn't have known about it either. But let's not act like the Internet doesn't have certain bubbles. Like, there's plenty of shit within our bubble that if I asked a regular person on the street, they'd be like, I had no idea that was even going on. But when you're on your own bubble of hundreds of thousands of people, it becomes a thing for your personal life. Just because everyone else didn't know about it doesn't mean your bubble didn't know about it. Yeah, and that can be weird. So she's gonna get on there while she's eating soup, which is, like, one of my pet peeves.
Mal
Was it super full?
Peach
It was.
Damaris
Looked like. Okay, yeah.
Rory
It's faux, but okay. So uncultured. I. I get why she did it. I'm about to be married. Stop insinuating things.
Damaris
Just trying to get married to a French guy.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
I ain't gonna lie, man. You gotta. You gotta relax, bro. Talented. I like. I like him, though.
Damaris
Oh, my God.
Rory
Peach is asking for his live Ebony magazine cover, which was sick, but I don't blame him for that. That was. Whoever directed. That was. This is. Have you seen this yet?
Peach
Oh, my God.
Rory
Out the gate. It's hilarious.
Damaris
That's a star.
Peach
Oh, my God.
Rory
No, but this. I'm sticking up for him, man. This is why directors are important. Because if you're just on a white cycle with a curtain, you know, they were just telling him, like, yo, do some wavy with your hands. And he just was like, all right.
Damaris
I guess they're like, we promise we'll make it look cool in post.
Rory
Yeah. Like, oh, it's a tight shot. Don't worry. Meanwhile, it's just you doing this with.
Mal
A long, white durag on.
Rory
I think he has a Scully on. And there's a. A curtain.
Mal
That's a durag.
Damaris
That is.
Rory
Oh, no, that's a cur. That's a curtain around his head.
Mal
That's a curtain that he turned into a durag fam.
Damaris
What?
Rory
That would be a curtain.
Damaris
What is this move?
Rory
It's not. It's not a durat. He's taking this thing to another level.
Damaris
That's maul. Can we do. Can we do a live cover art of Just make him Maul Mall?
Rory
We should do A moving cover art because we do have the white side.
Damaris
Yeah. Can we.
Rory
I can go get a curtain. We're in the right neighborhood.
Peach
It's so funny.
Mal
No, we're all slammed.
Rory
No, we're not. It's the holidays. We can do it.
Damaris
Damn, that is a crazy video.
Mal
You man.
Peach
I.
Mal
You. I like to get down, man. Don't do Shamik like that.
Rory
I like to get down too. It tried to do a lot, but it was. It was a good show.
Mal
Yeah. Great show.
Rory
It was kung fu romance. Hip hop was gangs. It's all over the.
Mal
All the. I love. All the. I love.
Rory
But the Wuang series. I'm mad. That ended like, he was great as Raekwon.
Mal
Yeah, no, that was another great series.
Rory
I wish they would bring that back and just keep going.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Like, all.
Mal
Just give us like. Like personal stories from each member. Like, give us the Ghostface series, the Ray series.
Rory
And I mean, all of them ended up being great in it. Like, even the gentleman that played RZA as the seasons went, like, his. His RZA impression got crazier. But how else are you supposed to imitate? That's how RZA sounds. Yeah, of course it's going to sound weird when someone else does it. Yeah, but do we have voicemails?
Mal
You've got mail.
Damaris
We do. Before we do today's voicemails, I wanted to bring up our guy Jack at Free Range Wine and Spirits.
Rory
Oh, there's an update.
Damaris
We had so many listeners go to his business. Shout out to every single person. One star review.
Mal
Shout out to Mandy. Yo, Mandy, I told you he was gonna ride for you.
Damaris
Everyone is just jumping on. Jack seems like a douchebag new Orion Ball listener. So this is amazing. Thank you, everybody. Just keep going. Jack, run it up during the holidays. Like, yo.
Rory
We've seen Jack clap back though. Let's not celebrate now because he made comments to the new Royal Mall listener and smoke our podcast. He might tell us about ourselves.
Damaris
Like, yeah, remember that one guy that did the ad breakdown?
Rory
Oh, yeah. We got him the out of here. He looked. He looked. He looked like death on his day off. I wasn't with him.
Peach
He. He. He did kind of smoke you. You got him back though. But he was smoking. I'm not going to lie.
Rory
I cleaned him up.
Damaris
Remember the guy podcast.
Rory
That's big. But they on.
Mal
Oh, yeah.
Rory
The real win was all his whole team emailing me constantly after I flagged the for copyright. Right? Yeah, like, trying to tell their case. Nah, suck a dick. It's cool.
Mal
It's Cool. Saying it's cool after suck a dick.
Damaris
It's cool. Dick.
Mal
It's cool.
Rory
But once. Once it wanted to go to YouTube trial. I settled. I let it go.
Mal
Okay. Yeah.
Rory
I just wanted them to lose views for that 10 days, almost two weeks.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
And what was so great about it? When you went to the video, it said copywritten with our llc.
Mal
Good.
Damaris
Yeah, that was funny Anyway. But yeah, I just wanted to bring that up again, that shout out to everybody that left a comment. That was that hilarious.
Rory
No, that was last year, right.
Damaris
What did you call him? You called him some cartoon.
Mal
No, that was Max.
Damaris
Max Headman.
Mal
That was last year, right?
Rory
Jimmy Neutron.
Mal
That was last year.
Damaris
That was last blamed him. Yeah, Max Headroom.
Rory
There was a lot of headroom.
Mal
Yeah, y'all.
Rory
Was up was. It wasn't us roasting, it was Peach. Just kept making his forehead bigger as. As the clip went.
Damaris
I gotta find that clip. Let's help this person with their brother.
Rory
With their liquor store issues.
Anonymous
Love the pod. Appreciate all the entertainment you put out, especially Damaris. But I'd like to read Anonymous. I'm calling for some sibling advice.
Damaris
Wonder why he loves.
Anonymous
Basically, my sister's husband found was on her laptop and was searching something up on Reddit and found that the account signed in was my brother's account with his own personal Gmail. But he was following a bunch of porn pages on there and he was posting his nudes to them.
Rory
Nice.
Anonymous
And his face wasn't in it, but his body and his tattoo was. And we were just feeling really concerned about, like, if an employer were to see that or the fact that it was just so easily findable on the Internet. And also me living with him. He has some sexual tendencies that I could see could be problematic, especially dating back to, like, when he was a minor and things. And we still have a pretty traditional and religious background.
Rory
You can't just say that and not tell us what those compromising sexual activities were, especially as a minor.
Damaris
Well, let's finish this, because I do. I'm not going to play the second one, but I have a little more context we can provide.
Anonymous
Ron and you guys, I know, have more sexually progressive background. So I was wondering, do you guys think this is something worth bringing up? I personally am just, like, very concerned for him because all his tendencies aren't necessarily healthy to me. But we don't want to, like, bring this up in a way that would make him uncomfortable. So how do you guys think we should approach this conversation? And do you think we're dragging it by bringing it up in the first place.
Rory
What's the other?
Mal
He said we got sexually progressive backgrounds. He just calls horrors.
Rory
Oh, I thought he called us gay.
Damaris
I mean, that's why you. Okay, can I do the context first? All right, so he said in high school someone threatened to extort him because he sent someone nudes while he was in high school. And the person threatened to extort him. And he said after that incident he'd stop, but obviously he didn't. And then he was also sending him. When he was a minor, he was sending his nudes to adults. So that's could possibly be who he's referring to. And he said his sex.
Mal
What do you mean he was sending his nudes to adults?
Damaris
Like he was in. When he was in high school, he was probably sending nudes to like a 25 year old or like what, those PDF files.
Rory
I never go after dick children.
Mal
So he was in high school sending.
Damaris
Nudes to older people, not men. I don't know if this guy's into men or women.
Rory
It was To Catch a Predator.
Mal
You don't know if this guy's into Not.
Damaris
Not our caller, his brother. Okay, I can. Yeah, here.
Rory
How do you extort a high school student?
Damaris
You see, well, if I. If we're dating in high school and I send you nudes and then we have a bad breakup and you're like it. I'm sharing the news with the whole high school school. People do that all the time.
Peach
Give me money.
Rory
I know, but what, like, what do you think the price amount for extortion in high school is?
Peach
Probably like 300, 400.
Mal
Three packs of smokes.
Damaris
Yeah, I was going to say like, what do you trade it? What's the value for more?
Rory
When I was in high school.
Damaris
More nudes.
Mal
Yeah, more backwoods and an ounce.
Rory
Something really unfortunate happened to a girl in my high school. My freshman year, someone printed out. Which is crazy in retrospect. Like times when you would download emails and like print things out. Printed out three of her nudes and made copies and threw them shits. Like yeah, that in retrospect, that was really up girls high. Cuz like everyone saw her and like she was a freshman in.
Peach
Oh, she had out in High School, 14 years old. It used to be like little bra and penny pics like out is crazy.
Mal
Remember the first nude you got like full like of course, Bush, everything.
Damaris
Bush is crazy.
Rory
It wasn't in the seventies.
Mal
Yeah, I remember the first nude.
Rory
I got ten years. It was, it wasn't Bush. I mean there was Some hair there. But it was not. She wasn't waxed. Because that'd be crazy for a high school girl to get waxed.
Peach
I think they. I'm gonna. If my daughter wants to get waxed when she's in high school, I'm gonna take her.
Mal
Well, now that's like, probably. Now that's probably. Yeah.
Peach
That was a big, like, controversy thing where, like, people were, like, getting our moms for that. But, like, I completely understand because I was shaving when I was in high school, and shaving comes with a whole bunch of bullshit that you shouldn't have to do. And it's just like, wax is not a sexual thing. Like, girls have to wear bikinis. You can't be the hairy bitch in high school during swimming.
Rory
04 to 08. That no high school girls getting a wax was not a crazy.
Mal
Swimming in high school.
Rory
I didn't see a completely wax box till college, probably. Yeah.
Mal
Swimming in high school. No, you have swimming in high.
Damaris
Yeah, we did have a. I didn't do it.
Mal
That must be an upstate thing.
Rory
Yeah.
Peach
Well, we have pools.
Mal
Yeah. Down here. Wasn't jumping in a pool between third and fourth period.
Damaris
Yeah, I never did.
Mal
And then shaking.
Rory
Going to another class, just chlorine all over your body.
Peach
You definitely smell like chlorine.
Mal
Yeah. What is that about? That is so. School is stupid when you think about it.
Rory
Like, think, I still don't know.
Mal
I'm supposed to leave this math class, rush to the gym, change it to my swim clothes, jump in the pool for 37 minutes, get out, dry off, and then make it to algebra.
Damaris
I gotta shower, then go to chemistry.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
What the fuck is that?
Rory
Nobody showered. Like, there are people that have gym first period and no one would shower. You had, like, gym clothes that you changed and then you put your regular clothes back on.
Damaris
Yeah, that body funk, that body spray.
Rory
Era locker room smoke.
Mal
Oh, my God, my locker room was so. Oh, it was some st. You Uptown was stinking.
Rory
Yeah. Even like football, nobody really watched their practice. Like, it was a permanent stinking smell.
Peach
The teenage. Teenage boy is the worst smell I've ever seen.
Mal
Oh, yeah.
Rory
Puberty boy.
Mal
G just G. Theo Von said all black people smell like deodorant.
Damaris
I saw that clip.
Rory
Theon is hilarious.
Mal
Yo, y'all don't know how hard I laughed at that.
Damaris
Didn't he say that to Drewi, which is awesome.
Rory
No, the.
Mal
It was funny cuz the Von. No, we don't some is around here stinking. But I understood what he was saying.
Peach
Like.
Mal
All black People smell like deodorant.
Rory
They had that Drew Ski episode going viral again of when they were talking to Roadside Willie and they were asking if, like, a girl from a rival team came to suck his dick, would he like, forget about the tide? And Theo Von was like, what if somebody from Texas A and M, Big old titties. They look like two pit bulls ready to chew on your cock.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
What the fuck? Drew Ski got up and walked away.
Mal
Right?
Damaris
Here we go into that for real, cuz.
Rory
I like you smelled the cologne I.
Mal
Had on when I came in there.
Damaris
I don't know.
Rory
You guys smell good.
Mal
Yeah, I feel like you're so full of.
Damaris
Really?
Mal
Yeah.
Damaris
No, you guys smell good, man. Yeah.
Rory
What do we smell like when we walk up?
Damaris
Honestly, I usually think it's like a lot of deodorant.
Mal
Wow.
Rory
Bro.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
No, black people do wear a lot of deodorant. Deodorant. Somebody put that on so slow.
Mal
Starting at the wrist to put on deodorant.
Rory
He went down to his hip.
Damaris
Cuz.
Peach
Black people od. They be.
Mal
Nah, you know what that come from? That come from one. One day being young, being out and your shits was of oofing a little bit. And you get caught out there like, yo, you stink. You funky, a little scar you for life. You ain't gonna never let that happen again.
Rory
What happened with Speed Stick? Did that get recalled? That was like Speed Stick. I felt like I was balling the green. Yeah.
Damaris
Yeah.
Mal
That was a terrible time. Speed Stick.
Damaris
I lost Speed Stick.
Rory
I'm sure if I smelt it like, you know, certain smells bring you right back to a time. If I could smell Speed Stick right now, it would take me right back. I would get to a gym locker.
Mal
Room smelling Speed Stick for me is like me smelling 99 bananas mix mixed with that.
Rory
The orange ax, whatever the orange circle was. I forgot how.
Damaris
Damn. I haven't had these in years.
Peach
Oh, this discontinued. Damn, that brings back.
Mal
Oh, man. Speed Stick.
Peach
My dad used to.
Rory
Oh, my dad is.
Mal
And how. And how much deodorant are we using? We got to put rubber grips on the side of it, and you would.
Rory
Grip it and it would like, crumble.
Mal
I rub on that like it's a Glock.
Rory
No, that would crumble into, like, crack rocks once it hits your arm.
Damaris
That is amazing. Oh, my God. Look at it.
Mal
Yo.
Damaris
Yep. Ever lick it? What? What?
Peach
No.
Damaris
Because, like, it looked all right. Hear me out.
Mal
No, I don't want to hear you out.
Rory
You eat deodorant.
Damaris
Not eating it you're not eating it. I'm talking about when you. When you fresh open it. Open brand new. Not after you've been using it for a year. And then it's like clean and shiny and smooth. You never just like put your tongue on it?
Mal
No, I've never done that.
Damaris
You've never.
Mal
I've never licked. Yo.
Damaris
Someone listening has done this.
Mal
And I'm waiting for someone listening has done it. Yeah, but we know it is like eat ass.
Damaris
You think licking is putting a little tongue, a little bit of deodorant? Like that's not that way.
Mal
I think.
Rory
I think the ass I eat doesn't look like speed stickers.
Mal
Yeah, yeah. Very clean and very like, you know, well kept.
Damaris
Yeah, I don't know. It's like people that used to. You guys never tried play doh? It's the same thing.
Mal
Like it's a. I'm a grown man.
Damaris
Not in your 40s.
Mal
No, what I'm saying. I was. I was in high school putting on deodorant. I wasn't licking it. I was a kid playing with Play D'oh. I didn't know anybody better. I don't think you should lick deodorant.
Rory
My pops had the quintessential white man smell. Old Spice and Gold Bond together.
Mal
Oh my God. That's when you know.
Rory
Smell my pops from.
Mal
You can smell from.
Rory
I'm inside, I can smell him. He's outside in the driveway.
Mal
Dad's on the way.
Damaris
Remember these bottles? I used to have one of these.
Mal
The.
Damaris
The bottle. Bottle. The og.
Rory
I remember those.
Mal
Yeah, Old Spice.
Damaris
Yeah, I would think that's still in my parents house.
Rory
Probably in football, like when chafing would happen. Not the yellow Gold Bond, the green one. The extra man, I would be running around my crib like Freddie Mercury when that hit my tank.
Peach
Don't piss me off.
Damaris
That was a lovely.
Rory
The green one was crazy. The yellow one was cool. That. That did the trick. But the green ones, when you had like severe like 2 a days chafing. Yeah, it would cure it in one night, but boy, did you have to. You paid for it.
Damaris
This detour we've taken, we didn't help this kid at all.
Peach
What's.
Rory
Mom, stop. We're still gonna get back while you're.
Peach
From the Bronx and I'm sure you mess with a lot of Spanish women. What's the. What's the limisol?
Mal
Let me soul, bro. Let me.
Peach
So I was dating a guy and.
Mal
I used some of that. One time in a girl shower, my ass. Was clean for 72 hours, bro.
Peach
This stuff, I wanted to try it. I was like. I had to be like, 22 or something. And I was dating this guy, and his mother was Puerto Rican, and I had all. I'm like, what is this? Like, they always talk about this. Whatever. I use that when I tell you. I felt like someone had shoved a peppermint up my.
Rory
That crazy Gold Bond did, too.
Mal
Somebody was blowing in your. In your butt smell like somebody felt like somebody was blowing wind in your butt.
Peach
It was.
Damaris
I hate that feeling.
Mal
I love it.
Damaris
Ah, that, like, cools. I don't like that.
Peach
The clean put time still on your ass.
Damaris
It's not clean.
Peach
That peppermint Dr. Bronner's that y'all use with y'all sick asses makes you feel like that, too.
Rory
I don't even know.
Peach
Peppermint Patty pussy.
Rory
Yeah, but, like, the severe one does that. Not the regular one, which I had to stop because, again, it's like you clean floors. I'm not cleaning my balls with that.
Mal
Yeah, I'm cool. Just give me dove.
Rory
The real west women, like, first generation or born there and moved to New York, stop rubbing Vicks all over your titties. They would just have Vicks just here. Well, they got a chest pole and Gold Bond, too, too.
Mal
He was just sick.
Rory
You know, it's just a tradition to go to sleep. And some of the bigger West Indian women would put Gold Bond on their chest so they wouldn't sweat all day. Yeah, it was. I mean, I still beat.
Mal
But Vicks, when you. Not when you're not sick on your chest is crazy.
Rory
It didn't stop me. It just. There was areas I couldn't explore.
Peach
The girls. It's a whole thing on Tick tock. The girls. Now all the old, like, things are coming back. The girls are now dusting themselves with powder again. Remember back when your grandmother used to. Oh, y'all are men, so y'all don't really know. Y'all don't know. Women back in the day used to dust themselves with powder. So, like, making powder used to have to be under the titties, under the arms, in between the thighs. But we stopped doing it because Johnson and Johnson was giving us all uterine cancer.
Rory
And I'm telling you, it didn't stop. West Indian women took Gold Bond powder and put it on their chest and under their titties.
Peach
Oh, it was the powder. I thought you meant like the cream.
Rory
No, no, no. The powder.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
But they would also put. It would mix with Vicks That's. Yeah.
Mal
How do we help this gentleman?
Damaris
Yeah, bro, you got to sit your brother down.
Rory
Yeah. Because this.
Damaris
Talk to him.
Rory
This could lead to something bad.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
He was already sending nudes to grown ass adults, so, yeah, you should try to nip this in the butt now and get him the help he needs.
Mal
But what, what adults were these though?
Rory
PDF files.
Mal
Yeah, probably like, oh, he was knowingly sending his news to adults. Like, entertaining.
Damaris
Yeah. So people get molested also, like, maybe remind him of how much trauma he had from the first time he got jammed up with this. Be like, yo, remember in high school when you said you were going to stop this because of how bad it was? Be like, you're going to. This going to happen again now, though.
Mal
So what's the.
Damaris
But isn't there like a thing you.
Rory
Can Google his name, he said, and find his nudes on Reddit? He's like, if an employer just types his name in, if he has a job interview, you. The first thing that's coming up is his booty hole on Reddit.
Mal
Oh, that ain't gonna stop nothing. You could sue now if they don't hire you for that. So kind of low is protecting you.
Rory
You wouldn't know that if you don't.
Mal
Hire me because my news online, I could sue you.
Rory
Yeah, but they wouldn't know that. That's why they didn't get the job. If you do a job interview and then no one ever calls you back.
Peach
Yeah, you don't know why.
Rory
And listen, discriminating, it's people that like, have had revenge porn or anything online, I think that's fine. Up. But if there's somebody like willingly spreading their butt cheeks on Reddit, I don't know if that's probably the right person for this company.
Peach
Yeah, I have to agree, Rory, posting.
Damaris
Your news on Reddit, I'd be hard pressed.
Rory
I don't know if that's not progressive. And I know he thinks we are progressive, but not. I'm just that person. I'm not. I don't even have questions. I just don't think I'll ever reply back to that resume.
Damaris
Okay, and if you're posting on Reddit, I'm curious, is, is it like. I think in most social media, people are looking for, you know, comments. You're looking for likes, you're looking for like gratit, you know, someone to compliment you. So who, like, where are they? What forms? Because I'm sure there's a million nude forums on Reddit.
Rory
Oh, for sure.
Damaris
What does he want to hear like what is the what dopamine is being hit that makes him want to do this so bad. Like what is he serving?
Rory
Okay, let me try to make sense of your question with the dopamine. Have you ever sent a risky test text and you were like to a consensually to a person that you were flirting with?
Damaris
No. Yeah, I get. Yeah.
Rory
Is there not some dopamine or some excitement of that reply to your risky text? Yeah, I'm just saying it's a bit of impulse that I think is with any type of drug or impulse at the moment. And he's been doing this as a kid and continues to do it so clearly he's addicted to whatever A reaction from his risky post. Yeah, that's probably what it is. If he just out here willy nilly just sending everything as a kid to now also to the world wide web. Not even a PDF file like just here you go world. Yeah here's my nude. Not even on some onlyfans like business model shit. You just here you go. There's probably some dopamine in getting a response to his naked body.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
Which is an addiction that you should probably talk to your brother about.
Peach
I do wonder why more people don't go into porn. Like I have a cousin that I told her like the she be doing. I'm like you could just like go into porn. Like you don't want to do anything else with your life.
Mal
What she be doing baby?
Peach
Dude, she just be.
Mal
She got a link tree and what's her ig?
Peach
This this I'm. I love. I love my cousin. She know she know she wow. And I'm not going to say her name. I would never do her like that. But she has let. She let her boyfriend nut on a piece of food and ate it. She's let men. She lets her man pee on her.
Mal
Like she what's her igs text it.
Peach
To me different level of freaky. I said girl go into porn I don't like. You are wasting your talents on regular.
Rory
Like but that's the intimate thing she does with her partner that she enjoys.
Damaris
Yeah.
Rory
That doesn't mean just some random she.
Damaris
Wants to be on camera.
Rory
What do they call? They call it collabing now. No, he no he collabed.
Mal
Collaborated on content.
Rory
No, he pissed on your face.
Mal
You said her IG was what?
Peach
Yep. Ma Ma you there's no way you're into that type of stuff.
Mal
Sex.
Damaris
Pissing is missionary to she present Freaky.
Mal
Don't do that. Don't see don't don't what? Don't throw that. Don't throw that narrative sexual deviant. Don't do that. P is missionary. You know how crazy.
Peach
I don't want no vegan peeing on me.
Mal
You don't want.
Peach
No, I don't want anybody peeing on me. But if I had to choose, it wouldn't be a vegan.
Mal
You would want a vegan to pee on you.
Peach
No. Y'all eat a lot of asparagus. You ever smelled asparagus pee?
Damaris
That's true.
Rory
Yeah.
Mal
It got a little tang to it, but at least it's clear.
Peach
That smell like you don't want.
Mal
What, you want yellow piss or you want clear piss.
Rory
Wait, first of all, you can eat meat and have clear piss.
Peach
Yeah.
Rory
Just drink water.
Mal
Yeah, but it's. You know, when y'all eat meat and pee is kind of like. It smell like.
Damaris
Doesn't smell like steak.
Mal
It does. It smells like.
Rory
I wish it smells like carbon.
Damaris
That'd be kind of chill.
Rory
Yeah. Yeah. Had a bunch of women ask me to piss on them if it smelled like carbon. It's hard to get a reservation. Clearly they're doing something right.
Peach
Just. Yes. If. If sit down with the sexual deviant and. And try to help them. If you're worried about them being embarrassed, listen, at this point, it's past that, because it sounds like you're worried about, like, their safety or other people's safety.
Rory
So their future, too. Like, this is. It's the Internet. It's forever. The more you do this, the harder it's going to be to get away from it when you want to and.
Mal
Have him call Better Help and give him Rory Mall. And you get.
Damaris
You could also get a therapist and guilt him. You could guilt him with the religious angle, too, because we're not going to say our caller's name because he didn't want it to be said. But it's this. Oh, of course.
Rory
Oh, he's probably lashing out.
Damaris
So they are very religious. He said it. He said the family.
Rory
Yeah.
Damaris
So you could do that. Hit him over the head with, like, you know, Mom.
Rory
Probably why he ran like that.
Mal
Yeah.
Rory
He's revolting against a very strict and religious household. But I know it'll be awkward, especially having that conversation with a sibling, but for his safety and his future, have that awkward conversation. Pretty. Pretty simple advice. It's time. His butthole is on Reddit. This has gone too far. After you guys.
Mal
Yeah. Once your butthole ends up on Reddit, once your balloon knot is on, like, page Three and Reddit page three.
Damaris
That must be a good photo. Keep going.
Peach
Keep. You're doing something right.
Damaris
How much karma does your have?
Mal
Keep it up.
Rory
And if that's his thing and he doesn't want to change, get a Only fans, bro. Like, at least make a career out.
Peach
Yeah, make a. That's what I'm saying. Make a dollar, like.
Rory
Or reach out to d cousin. You guys could collab.
Damaris
Collab in Syracuse.
Peach
Who? I never said she lived in Syracuse.
Mal
See, and you still ain't say what her IG was. How many followers she she got?
Peach
Probably like 500.
Damaris
Does she present freaky or is it.
Rory
Like, in a relationship?
Mal
Oh, my bad.
Damaris
All right, Shamik, come on, man.
Mal
No, I thought she said she just does, like, nasty with her. Like the guy she said.
Rory
I mean shamal. So this question's kind of gross, but, you know, it's almost Christmas, so why not? Would you ever nut on a piece of toast and give it to a young lady?
Damaris
Why the not?
Mal
Well, it's the season. Forgiven, Rory. And if that's what she wants for.
Peach
Christmas, then would you ever look at her differently?
Mal
Yes, absolutely.
Peach
If your girl. If she loves you that much, if your girl lets you, like, nut on toaster strudel.
Mal
If my girl tells me, yo, nut on this toaster strudel and I'm eat it, I'm gonna help her pack her belongings and get up.
Peach
Really? See, that's what I be trying to tell y'all. Y'all be trying to be so freaky for this. Men. These men. And they judging you.
Mal
I just. What we doing nut on French toast?
Peach
Nah, like this little, Little, Little, you.
Damaris
Know, the toaster strudel's head.
Peach
Toaster strudel. So she could mix it with the glaze place.
Mal
You don't have to do that. I could just nut in your mouth like, you don't have to do that.
Peach
Okay.
Rory
And then chase it with it.
Peach
Maybe she wants. No, but, like, maybe she wants the experience. The Mac to hit the. The ems to hit the Mac and cheese.
Rory
I think, honestly, in the height of the moment before I nutted, I would probably agree to that. And the post nut clarity would hit me quicker than when I beat off by myself. Like, and then it'd be clear that I'd see it on the toaster strudel. I'd probably tell her to stop. And if she ate, I'd be like, all right, first of all, I'm gonna go get a. A. A rag while you.
Mal
Yeah. Not ask.
Rory
While you enjoy your breakfast.
Mal
So I'M about to come. She leans over to the nightstand and grabs a. A Eggo that's on a saucer. Well, I'm like, come on this.
Peach
I'm sure they.
Mal
I'm sure like, now I don't have to nut again. Now I'm just like, yo, all right.
Damaris
And it would have to be preheated cuz those come frozen. So you gotta toast it. Toast it before it's got to be timed. Like the ding has to go off on the toaster and you got to be like, all right. And then you.
Rory
Because you don't want to get couple skill building.
Mal
He has too much going on. It's too much happening. We ain't got to do that.
Damaris
Comment on a toaster shrew is hilarious. Is.
Mal
Yeah. A girl asked me to come on the mirror once and I couldn't do it.
Peach
Like, come on the mirror.
Mal
Why?
Damaris
That's just.
Mal
We was having sex in front of the mirror and she was like, come on the mirror. I'm gonna lick it off. And I just started laughing.
Peach
I don't like that.
Mal
I was like, yo, what are you talking. It's not swag. It is licking a mirror.
Peach
Yeah, that's weird. That's weirder than the toaster strudel. At least a toaster strudel is meant to.
Rory
Especially like, were you in a hotel? Because that's crazy. Look at a hotel mirror is nuts.
Damaris
The mond.
Peach
Stop.
Mal
