All that, like, access. Two places I've been with no money, just, I don't know, haphazardly. And it made me kind of really not like those places. And that's Chicago and New York.

Well, if you ain't got no money in Chicago.

That can. You can experience a different part of Chicago that you've never seen. Micha. Jordan never saw this part of. Jordan never seen this part.

They went crazy with the redlining in Chicago. It's literally just a line.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. But New York has been good to you, man.

It's been great. You know, came out here, did the Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon.

Yeah. Got to see the seller. I had went to the cellar years ago, and I don't think they had as many rooms as they do now, but just like, three, four rooms at the cellar.

When did that happen?

[Rory]

I've been to the cellar for probably a year ago.

It's not just the main one in the basement.

Correct. There's, like, different rooms now. Apparently they just bought a McDonald's and they're going to make like, a fifth room.

[Rory]

Oh, the west fourth McDonald's probably next to Village Underground. Oh, okay. So that. All right. So that. That McDonald's on West 4th was legendary. Like, iconic. Like, that's where all the would fight at, like, 2:00am no, I'm not making this up.

[Mall]

Yeah.

[Rory]

That is the most iconic McDonald's. Like, when that shut down, that was like. That was like pulling the Empire State Building out of New York City. That's an iconic McDonald's, that West 4th one. Now, at least it's going to good use, though.

[Ron Taylor]

Like, why would. Why would lesbians fight there of all places?

[Rory]

You'd have to talk to the lesbians. I was just there for the show.

[Mall]

God, they probably just bombed at the cell.

[Rory]

But, yeah, comics. Other owns Village Underground, which is right next to that McDonald's, which is also iconic spot outside of comedy for music. The Village Underground is great. The Blue Note. Just that whole area that, like, L block is iconic. Not just for fights.

But for art.

Yeah. The art of the city. Not the heart of the city. The art of the city.

Yeah.

And iconic basketball courts. Right. Like, yeah, it's just a cool block.

Yeah. I've been seeing all that stuff, too. Like, the best. I don't know, maybe just this Go around this trip. Like I said, my eyes were more wide open, like a sort of basketballs. Like, oh, there's probably a young Kyrie there right now. You know, I see the hot dog people and I say, I'll try a hot dog.

When I was last year, I was like, I ain't spending nothing.

These kids need to get the out of my way playing basketball.

None of y' all gonna make it.

I love Ron's budget. Now that he has money, he said, I'm gonna buy a hot dog and I'm gonna watch a free basketball game.

Oh, boy. It makes sense now. When you go to certain cities, like, I get it. I understand why these people are upset and angry.

Like I said, Chicago, I was like. I was there with no money. I was like, yeah, I want to kill people, too. Everybody who look like me, where they at? So I had to get up out of there. But I'm gonna go to Chicago next. You know, I've got a budget of all my bills are paid, and I've got $200.

Oh, it's life. Life is. Life is great. As long as your bills are paid, life is great.

You get deep dish P now in Chicago.

[Ron Taylor]

Yeah. Yeah. But there's the place that everybody is like, tells you not to go in Chicago. So I would imagine New York has a place like that. Right.

Not to go to Chicago.

It's like, oh, don't go there. That's the tourist pizza.

[Rory]

Uno's or some like that I think it's called is the Taurus Deep dish one.

[Mall]

But where you were at west for Joe's. Joe's is a good spot. That's a good New York slice.

[Rory]

Yeah. John's a Bleecker's, one block over. Yeah, there's real good.

People pass. He's a little further uptown in Manhattan. Harlem. Well, not Harlem. The Patsy's is Harlem, right?

[Rory]

Technically, yeah. At this point, for gentrification purposes nowadays, Linda Street.

[Mall]

Linda street is probably the best slice in the city right now. They're right up the block.

[Ron Taylor]

So New York, we always got a good slice, but New York and Chicago, we've had this rivalry of best slices for a few years, and I still think we have the best slice, but, you know.

Yeah, no, the best pizza I've had. And this is just. Personally, I can't say.

No, those that don't know Ron is from Detroit, so.

Well, I mean, apparently Detroit has great pizza.

Which I didn't know until, like, a few years ago. Some list came out and I didn't even know there was Detroit style. I thought we just did pizza square for Some reason. But Detroit style is apparently, like, middle. Between the middle of deep dish and whatever. Yeah, but the best pizza I had was near the Comedy. Not Comedy Store, the Cellar. Some green place is just. It's probably just a random pizza place, but it's, like, right on the corner.

I just know the. The. The motif is green, and it's right by the Cellar.

Yeah, probably. Is that it?

Oh, yeah, yeah. Bleaker street is good.

Yeah. That's the best pizza I ever had.

Bleaker street got a good. They got a good slice.

Just that whole area. Yeah, it's good pizza street. But I've noticed, like, the last three or four years, the most pizza spots I see opening in New York are Detroit style. Like, that's becoming a theme in New York.

I wonder. I mean. Cause it's all right to me.

Yeah, well, you guys stole Coney island from us, so I thought we had to return. We had to return the favor.

I don't think that was a theft. I think that was some white people doing some stuff with some things.

You know, we were migrating.

Well, so. So y' all don't even have a Coney Dog, right? There's no Coney Dog in here.

Well, we have Coney island, which is Nathan's.

We have a Nathan's. The first race, the original Nathan's is in Coney Island.

But the Coney Dogs in Detroit are based off Coney island, though, right?

I'm not sure.

I don't know. I just know. But y' all don't put chili and Nathan's does he.

to Detroit, I was like, why is Coney island everywhere?

[Ron Taylor]

Yeah, I mean, I thought that was weird, too, for the Longest House. But, you know, you. You don't question Detroit gangsters. You just let them.

What they gonna do, you know?

But for those that haven't seen the funny AF series, how does the comedy competition stuff work?

[Ron Taylor]

So you mean this competition or just in general?

[Rory]

Well, this and in general.

[Ron Taylor]

Well, normally a competition will take place, and whether you win it at the end or not, nothing really happens. You know, it's just another thing you did. At best, you'd win some money. You Know, and that'd be this one. And I've been saying I don't think anybody, maybe Kevin Hart, if that. I don't think anybody knew that this show was gonna be as big as it ended up being for a few reasons. Number one, there's no comedy competition we've ever seen that was unfiltered. Right. If you watch what was the AGT or whatever that was filtered comedy. So this is the first one of

its kind, last comic standing. Very, very filter.

[Ron Taylor]

Yeah, right. This one. I mean, one of my last jokes was about dicks or something, you know, just something you wouldn't normally. Gotta get it done, you know, Dick jokes, brother. That's, that's, that's what we got. Bills, you know. But this one at the end, it pretty much. Not pretty much. It absolutely gave, at the very least, the top four a brand new entire career. Right. So I got the call or the email about signing up. You know, you send your tape in which all of these things I had done a thousand times right up until winning. Even winning I've done a bunch of times. And it's normally just some prize money. Yeah, this one, it wasn't no prize money, it was a whole career. But you sign up, they say, yeah, come do that in front of us. And I did it in Chicago. And then they say, hey, you did great. We're going to move you to la. And I did it in la. And then after that point, it was the rose, it was the roast, the topical, the semifinals and the finals. And it was, it was hard, man, because everybody there was. Was great. We had been burning material throughout the entire course of the show.

That's what I wanted to ask you. I wanted it for a comic because with the Internet and things like that, we talk about all the time how rappers used to go to a radio station and have 40 bars to spit, but they would take that same 40 bars and go all over the country with it and spit the same thing over and over before the Internet, where they could post a clip and everybody would hear the verse.

[Ron Taylor]

Right, There you go. There you go. How was it?

[Rory]

Every market loved it.

[Mall]

Yeah, no, every market loved it. But how is a comic, how difficult is it to move into these different cities in a competition and have these, these judges or these people in front of you and keep coming up with different material?

[Ron Taylor]

Well, in this type of competition, which again, first of its kind, but in this type of competition, I don't think anybody's coming up with material in that competition. Maybe somebody can do that, but I don't think anybody would have wanted to do that in this one because everybody was so seasoned. Okay, so if you're doing brand new jokes and somebody else is doing, you know, tried and true jokes, you might not make it. Now, of course, we're talking about reactions, audience reactions. If you make something up on the spot and it's the funniest thing ever, then so be it. Do you want to run that risk?

Right.

[Ron Taylor]

But to answer your question, it's like as a comedian, it's your job to come up with material, Right. And. And try to make people laugh different ways. But as a comed, your jokes are a tool. The point is to make people laugh. The jokes are just a tool to get that done. So however you go about getting the job done, so be it. But these tools we call jokes normally work like they're your most reliable tools. So I don't think people are. I don't think anybody would come up with new jokes for that competition. But you definitely want to keep writing because you never know when you have to do a special.

Right.

You know, you never know when doing this 30 minutes is going to have you win a competition. So keep writing.

[Rory]

What. What was the American Idol type moment on that. That finale when you were standing on stage?

[Ron Taylor]

Okay. What do you mean by American Idol type?

[Rory]

When Kev was announcing the winner, how nervous were you?

[Ron Taylor]

I wasn't nervous at all.

[Mall]

Really.

[Ron Taylor]

Right.

[Mall]

Because it is all, at the end of the day, comedy.

It makes sense to me just because I'm aware of how, how people operate when it comes to and react.

But that's, again, that's what Tony does. Tony is a. I've known him for a long time. You know, he's given a lot of people opportunities he can. I mean, his show killed Tony like every other week.

But what his plan or point is, I mean, I don't know, like, what now do you come out with an album?

I think so. I think it was more so. You know, Jay has been experiencing things, going through things the last few years, and obviously he's a rapper, so his way to respond would be through the music, through his lyrics, through his bars,

did his whole career.

He's always done things like that. But I think that he's been, you know, for the past few years. He doesn't do a lot of interviews. He's not gonna, you know, have many opportunities to address things. So I think that was his first time being on stage, solo set. And why? Cause he's come out on tour, on Beyonce's show a few times. But his own solo thing, 4:44. Yeah, it's been that since the last time was 444, 2016, almost. Yeah. 10 years ago. So I think he used that moment to kind of just like, you know, I'm gonna respond to things that obviously I've gone through and that everybody that was there has heard or read about. So I think he just used that platform to just address a lot of the shit that's been on his mind. And, you know, that's. That's. To me, that's what it's for. It's supposed to be for a rapper, for artists. It's supposed to be through the art, through the music.

But does an album come afterwards?

I think we get, I think we get an album. I think we get a Jay Z album this year. I think that, you know, Jay, he's, he's very intentional and he's not gonna do anything unless there is a full plan ahead. So I think even to, you know, the shows at Yankee Stadium being however many years since Reasonable Doubt and the blueprint, things like that, I think that he's obviously in, your know, his creative circle and I think music, new music is definitely, definitely happening this year.

Well, I, I wish, I wish they weren't beefing. I was never a fan. But who's beefing of Jay Z and Drake?

I mean, but he was talking about him, wasn't he?

It's, I mean, it's just, it's just, it's like, like we spoke about it. It's just that's rap, little jabs here and there. But it's not a beef, though. Like, I don't think Jay Z is, is getting into a beef with anybody musically at this point in his career. I think he'll always have little jabs and little, you know, little bars here and there. But that to me, that's cool. You know what I'm saying? That's part of the art, that's part of the sport of hip hop, is to say little slick things here and there about other MCs or your peers and things like that. But a beef though. Jay Z is not. He's not beefing with any rappers at this point in his life. No, that's not.
