One thing I love about summer is how easy everything feels. The days are a little more relaxed and I find myself reaching for the same comfortable go anywhere pieces again and again. And that is why I keep coming back to Quints. They focus on well made essentials that naturally become those everyday staples you actually live in all season long. Quince's 100% European linen pants and shirts are breathable, easy to throw on and the summer upgrade your rotation needs starting at just $34. We need breathable here in Atlanta with this hot weather. So they work. Their tees are soft enough to live in all day and the lightweight cotton sweaters are exactly what you want when summer nights cool down. Everything at quints is priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands. They work directly with ethical factories and cut out the middlemen. So you're paying for exceptional quality, not brand markup. I've become a bit of a Quintz guy. I'm not gonna lie. I love the 100% European linen relaxed long sleeve shirt. I like this for going out at night. I can't wear a T shirt out to the bar or restaurant so you throw on this still breathable great look. Bunch of different colors. They even have a few limited edition colors. So I am a fan of that. And it's not just clothing. Quint has become a trusted favorite for everything from home to travel to everyday essentials. So make your summer wardrobe easier. Thanks for joining us. Hit the like button. Subscribe. Podcast listeners, five star ratings and reviews. We got a lot to get to on today's show. I know I say that a lot, but we actually do. Before we get into the first topic though, congrats to our guy, Tim Bontemps on officially joining the Atlanta Hawks front office. He's going to be a strategic advisor. A caca to you. Good, Timmy. Good times. Oh, I can't wait to hear Tim Bontemps drop a caca.
C
I think that's what they have to say now. That's part of the signing.
A
Exactly.
B
That's what he's going to walk into meetings with. Opens the door.
A
Yeah.
C
Auntie Caca is back. Yes, just how it is there? Congrats to Tim.
A
Congrats. That's great. And I assume we'll be down here in the Atlanta area working for the Atlanta Hawks. That's exactly right. Open invite. He knows anytime he wants to come on. And no dunks. Swing by the Classic Factory and tell us all of your plans, your strategic advice for the Atlanta Hawks. Huge news. Other news, yesterday, last night, the Wizards are bringing back Khris Middleton on a 3 year old 17.6 million dollar deal. By way of a sign and trade, Dallas is sending the 14 year vet to the Wizards as part of a larger six team deal that includes in total the Mavericks, the Wizards, the Clippers, the Pistons, the Bucks and the Grizzlies. It involves previously agreed upon deals such as John Collins, Gary Harris and Tory and Prince all going to Detroit. Santee Aldama and Marcus Sasser are going to Dallas. Beef Stew and A.J. johnson are going to Memphis. Karis Lavert is going to Milwaukee. And the Zards are also sending d' Angelo Russell and second round picks to the Grizzlies. I should say there are a bunch of second round picks. Oh yeah, there are going around here. These things are getting swapped. Swapped around like saliva at a swingers party. Second round picks. So I think I broke it down there. Sort of the moving pieces, a lot of crappy teams and maybe at this point below average players. But anything jump out to you from this six team deal?
B
Well, the Wizards won this trade. They went from d' Angelo Russell to Chris Middleton.
C
Upgrade. I'm with you.
A
Hey, when you put it that way, not bad.
B
Good vet. Yeah, good vet.
A
He was already there, right?
B
Yeah, for the Wings, you know, Debancer. Hey, this guy, this guy won a championship. It was a very, very, very key part. Now will he ever be in the hall of Fame? No. All very good. Yeah, I'm shoving Chris Middleton in there. That guy was really key with Yanis Atoko, who we'll get to a little later in this show. But yeah, to help out Deban and Keshan Jordan and Kul Bali. I think when you look at this trade, six team trade, that was a record just two years ago. So the new cba, these are flying out a little bit more. You had a 6 with Klay Thompson, a 7 with Kevin Durant, and now a 6 with this one in 24, 25 and now 26. So they're happen.
A
Yeah. Will we remember this one like you remember those other ones?
B
Tim Bon, get in on one with the Atlanta Hawks to advise on. Will we remember it? No, no, no.
C
The answer is no.
A
Like who's the best player from this entire thing? I guess it's John Collins.
C
Yeah, I think he's like the most important player going forward here because you know, that's basically the Pistons only move so far this offseason. Throw in Isaiah Joe. They're bringing back Kevin Herder. And I actually thought the Pistons part of this is kind of weird. Yeah, they are getting John Collins. We knew that was the case replacing Tobias Harris. But in this trade, Marcus Sasser goes out, Caris Levert goes out. These guys are minor pieces in the grand scheme of things. But this leaves Detroit very, very shallow for ball handlers. They got Cade and they got Dennis Jenkins. That's it.
B
Yeah.
C
So I guess they're assuming some growth from a Sar Thompson perhaps as a ball handler. Maybe they see something with Ron Holland. I haven't necessarily seen that so far in his career. But they're saving some cap money here. Of course the. They're getting a trade exception but they paid two seconds to get off a Caris Levert. You're gonna need a backup point guard.
A
Yeah.
C
You're gonna need somebody else that can handle the ball. Cade isn't gonna play 82 games. He's not gonna play 48 minutes a game. Dennis Jenkins was a two way player last year. This is a strange stuff to me from the Pistons, but that's kind of been the case for the entirety of the offseason.
A
Some people think maybe something else is coming or maybe that's hopeful wishful thinking. I don't know with Detroit like that. This is setting up for something else. I see a lot of talk about the idea of maybe even Brandon Ingram still being a piece that could make his way to his. He could make his way to Detroit as obviously a scoring. That's sort of not maybe a ball handler as much but that interesting that small money wise. Yeah.
B
They need a guy who can score and going from Tobias Harris to John Collins is a step back as good as John Collins is at rim running. Tobias Harris could make plays happen. So yeah this whole Pistons picture is interesting for sure. Getting away from Marcus Sasser, they do have a book a Corey that they drafted so he can fill in there. But getting away from Isaiah Stewart who was a lot of their heart. Now Tolu Smith who was their third string center is kind of their backup center. And so yeah, what is this Pistons team? I think that's a fair question after seeing this. And it does set up the possibility of another trade. That that's a good feels right because now assert Thompson can be extended and the Jaylen Duran thing, those are the two guys that you're really looking at right here.
A
Oh yeah. I keep forgetting Jalen Duran is not actually signed to a team right now
B
and no one's signing him. Who's signing him?
C
Obviously not. The Lakers were going to potentially be one of the teams that could give him a big offer sheet. I guess the Nets still could but if they haven't yet, like yeah, you think it would have already happened. So I guess the Pistons are going to get a good deal on Jalen Duran is what it's going to turn out to.
A
Sort of feels like it.
C
And it feels like they are pinching pennies right now in Detroit, so that's probably good news for them because they haven't gotten better. They've gotten at the best. They've gotten the same as they were last year and a lot of teams in the east have beefed up.
A
Right, right, right. Anything else on?
B
Well, a quick one on the Mavs side of things. It feels like they're going to eventually move PJ Washington out of there now. Getting Alama and Tarek Berovich.
C
Oh, yeah.
A
The draft rights to him.
B
The draft rights to him who? According to our guy, Keith Smith, he talked to a scout who said Tarik Beverich Beverage is the most plug and play Euro I've seen for the NBA in years. He's ready to be a rotation guy on day one with his shooting. So there's P.J. washington is available there. As they get younger, he said, all right, we're getting younger. We're building around Cooper flag, and that makes sense with an Aldama and other young guys, but they have some parts that are going to be moving around and.
A
And Sasser is there. I said, I mean, how long he'll be there? Like all of these names that I've thrown at you here, how many of them will be on the roster they just got traded to by the end of next season?
B
How?
C
Seriously, Like John Collins.
A
Yes. Maybe two. I'm telling you, I think you'd set the line at. You'd set the line at 2 and A.
B
Come on over. Santi Alama.
A
Okay, so let's set the line at two and a half.
B
Solid player. Okay, I'm going over who are the other guys?
A
I guess Christmas beef stew's in this as well.
B
Yes, absolutely. How many guys were in this trade?
A
It's like, I don't know, 10 guys or something. Yeah. It's half the league, man. At this point, is anybody gonna play
C
for the Miami Heat? Like Chris Middleton, it seemed like, was going to be a Heat, having the relationship with Giannis and the opportunity there. The Wizards are basically like, he's not even going to play for us. He's just coming to be a good guy.
A
Yeah.
C
And teach AJ DeBancer. But I'm like, the Heat are gonna need players at some point. They did get Tim Hardaway and his dad is letting him wear his number now. Is that Right, that's what I saw.
A
I don't know, I keep seeing conflicting reports on this.
C
Yeah, why would you not? It's weird to say, no, you can't wear my number. I'm sorry. That's a weird thing.
A
Especially when you named your kid after you.
C
Same thing, Larry Nance style as we talked about. But I thought Chris Middleton would be a Heat and I thought there was a little bit of an opportunity for him to do something at the end of his career here. But now it's like this really ain't the year for Miami. Not that Middleton was pushing him over the top, but like, fill it out, Patrick.
B
We'll get to it a little later. But I think DeMar DeRozan going to Miami. Okie dokie. There's a good opportunity there. Very good opportunity. They need to score. You could literally come off the bench for the heat and drop 20. Oh yeah, if you're DeMar DeRozan. So I think that is a legitimate connection right there. Dollars wise, he doesn't necessarily care because he's getting $10 million for from the Sacramento Kings already. So you just make a minimum deal. I mean, if you're okay with coming off the bench. Cause I think he would be ideal for that. He's never done that before.
A
Yeah, I wonder how many of these teams when it comes to DeRozan, are just waiting to see where the LeBron James piece falls. Like he could be a sort of a backup plan for a lot of the teams that Maybe don't get LeBron and then you pivot to a DeRozan, right?
C
Could be.
A
It could be tied a little bit in terms of just waiting, I guess. Well, I mean the Nuggets, the Warriors, stuff like this.
B
Could be.
A
Could be. All right, let's get to our other piece of news here. Kyle Lowry has officially announced his retirement after a 20 year NBA career. The Groat, the greatest Raptor of all time, signed a one day contract yesterday to retire as a member of the Raptors. He had promised this a while back and they followed through on it. He and the team held a formal press conference yesterday. They just celebrated his return. And I guess they did say. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said July 7, 2026 hereby known as Kyle Lowry. Day seven. Seven. He wore number seven. Good, there's that. GM Bobby Webster also told reporters that the team will be of course retiring Kyle Lowry's number seven at some point during the 2627 season. But yeah, I don't know how much you watched at the press conference or Read about all this.
B
I watched Kyle. Yeah, it was great to see him so happy, so bubbly, so driven like he always was. He always was. I love the question from a 20 year old out there who said, you remember when I asked you a question when I was 12 and he immediately, when he, when the person started talking, he's. He immediately clicked. He's driven. He knows he. And the first thing he said was the, the person asked him, hey, remember when they. You were an iconic player across Canada in the NBA Finals? And he said, yeah, but the thing that he wasn't happy about was we didn't win in game five, but we win one in game six. I mean, he was still driven, he's still focused, and he still did it for the entire country. And then I loved what he said about Kawhi because who was there? Yeah, he was asked about Kawhi. Kawhi sitting there. He said, quote, you get him to that point, your championship. Championship is the only aspiration. He knew that, man. He had that planted the aspiration line for sure. So the driven dude talking about not doing it in Canada for Game 5 in Toronto, I wish you did it as we were there. But then in game six, he goes up and he hits the first four shots of that game.
A
Awesome.
B
So Cal just. Kyler, man.
A
Any thoughts on this?
C
Yeah, very cool. I like the video he did. I like that he was asked what, uh, the favorite charge he'd ever taken in his career was and he said it was the All Star Game. One, which I didn't remember was against Kawhi driving to the hoop.
A
Cause he took two.
C
Yeah, yeah. And he said, he said that was the one.
A
Cool.
C
But yeah, I mean, Lowry said he was going to retire as a Raptor. He's retiring as a raptor. Played 20 seasons. Like we're seeing more and more 20 season NBA careers. But Kyle Lowry came in as like a guy with a bit of a rap, as a coach killer. Like he had a bad reputation coming to Toronto. He's also six feet tall.
A
Yep.
C
He was a heavier player for a lot of his career. You see some of the highlights from him early in his career. Compared to him winning the title with the Raptors, you're like, wow, he did some work on his body, but to be able to put in 20 years after the way his career started, I think is pretty impressive.
B
Yeah, he was an NBA a hole for a little bit, but sure. But that's what made him great.
A
Even to the point where the Raptors were trading him. He was going to the New York Knicks.
B
True.
A
And James Dolan actually shot that trade down. And then the Raptors went on their run and obviously turned into a. A very good Eastern Conference team. Ran into LeBron a couple times and then went. He left and Kawhi came. They win the title. And Lowry was a huge piece of this. It was awesome. I loved watching this. I mean, he's one of my favorite players of all time. Duh. But it's wild to think, like I was thinking back 20 year career and he didn't even play half of it in Toronto. And that just seems like. Because he's so linked with the city of Toronto and the country of Canada and obviously the Raptors fan baseball, that it's pretty cool. And it's like, should be like, you know, for other players to take away from. This is like, okay, your career can start a little rocky and maybe you bounce around a couple spots, but by no means is it over. And you know, you just got. Obviously once he came to Toronto and him and DeRozan and they just started winning 50 plus games every season and obviously finally getting to the postseason. Because I always think back to right after they acquired Kyle Lowry. And you'll remember this task because we were doing a show. So 2012. Elvin Williams, who we loved as a Raptors fan, he told Kyle, if you can just lead this team to the playoffs, you'll be remembered in Toronto forever. Just lead them, get them into the playoffs, maybe win a series. That's how low the bar was, man. Like you're laughing at it. But we were there. We were season ticket holders. They had missed the playoffs in eight of the previous 10 seasons before it came. And that has always stuck with me because I remember we were like, yeah, that's it. That's all it is, man. Just get us there. It'll be fun as hell. Not only does he get us there, of course, they win a ton and then win the whole thing.
B
So, yeah, that was great.
A
I. I really enjoyed they. They rolled out the red carpet for this too. All class, I thought from the Raptors with how they had. I don't know if you guys saw the locker room, basically turned it into a Kyle Lowry museum and stuff like that. So. Pretty cool.
B
Absolutely. Yeah. The memories start to kind of blend all together. Like you saying we were season ticket holders. You were there for one year and then you got out of there. We weren't. You weren't really a season ticket holder?
A
Well, no, no, I didn't go to 82. I didn't go to 41 games? I didn't say that.
B
Yeah, well, you got in for one year. You jumped in for one.
A
No, I also was in with Grisham for a year.
B
Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. But, yeah. You didn't like the upper bowl? Oh, yeah. Those are separate. You were out of there, man. You were out of there.
A
I was down in the lower bowl as soon as I could with.
B
But either way. Oh, that's where. That's where you got in because Grisham was in the lower. That's funny. Yes. Obviously. Kyle Lowry, just a special guy. Just a special guy, man.
C
I didn't realize that when he was a rookie on the Grizzlies. Damon Stoudemire was his vet. I thought that was interesting to hear, especially considering, you know, the Stoudemire connection with Toronto. The Raptors eventually go on to win the championship in 2019. He was wearing the Stoudemire jersey at the parade.
A
Yeah.
C
I didn't know it was anything besides, like, oh, think about this little point guard from back in the day. I didn't know that they had a connection to each other, but I thought that was pretty cool as well. But let's build the Raptors, Mount Rushmore. The Mount Raps more.
A
Okay.
C
Lowry's on it.
A
Yeah. And so is Vince.
C
DeRozan is on it.
A
Yeah.
C
Vince, you think is on it.
A
Yeah.
C
And then Kawhi is the last guy.
A
Yeah. Yes. Well, especially now that he's back.
B
How can you leave?
C
Kawhi lettered off for sure.
B
Yeah. It's easy. Building a mountain. Mount Rushmore of the Raptors, because there ain't many guys, you think, oh, they should be on there. There just weren't that many great players, so, I mean, it's not hard to drop off one Chris Bosch.
C
Exactly. You're leaving off Bosch and Calderon? Probably.
B
Yeah. But as Alvin Williams said to Kyle Lowry, you win a playoff series, you're good to go. Nobody else won one. Chris Bosh didn't win a playoff series. You know, so there wasn't. Okay, yeah, fair enough. There was that huge gap between 2001 and. And then was it 16 that they won a playoff series? That's a long time. And so. Yeah, there's nobody.
A
Yeah, that's. That is the four. I mean, maybe it's not your. Like, you'd have probably Garbajosa on your Mount Rushmore of Raptors, like, if you're just going personal favorites. But yeah, the four you named in Kyle DeRozan, Vince Carter and Kawhi Leonard.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
Which is so amazing because Kohi Leonard played one year and but he's back now and he was there. He was looking like he was tearing up. I don't think he was, but it just looked like he was.
B
He seemed happy. Yeah, with the braids, you know,
A
to
B
his eye they look good. Another guy you'd include is Alvin Williams. Hit a big game winning shot against the New York Knicks in 2001 to give him a playoff series win because they didn't win any for the first 20 years. They literally won one and it was that one. So Alvin stepping in, but otherwise, nah. Jose, it was fun while you were
C
there, but he's shooting great percentages at
B
the free throw line.
A
Never was. Barely missed, barely missed out the line. We love Jose.
B
Oh, I love his ham, that's for sure.
A
And I hope they let us know as soon as possible when they're actually going to retire as Jersey up there in Toronto during the 2627 season. Because that would be a fun thing to get back to if possible. But I don't know. When do they announce? I guess it's like team to team how they announce this stuff. They could tell us right away, right? Like when we get the schedule drop in August, they're like, okay, it's this week of November or something like that. Or maybe it gets pushed back. We'll see.

A
Moving on the Cavaliers and superstar guard Donovan Mitchell agreed to a four year, $273 million contract extension Tuesday that could keep him in Cleveland through the 2031 season. The deal includes a player option in that final year. T.K. mitchell 4 years, 2 $73 million Fat
C
chunk for Donovan Mitchell could have been
A
fatter if he waited a year.
C
Could have been fatter. They said the Cavs with a Mitchell signing right now, they're saving basically a year, $80 million at the end of that contract and I guess a no trade clause could have been thrown in for Donovan Mitchell had he signed next summer instead of this summer. So that's good for Cleveland. I don't know about everything else. He's going to be 30 at the start of the season. Right in the. Right in his prime, though maybe the end of his prime and certainly by the end of this contract. The end of his prime. And that's the big scary part, is at the end of this contract, Donovan Mitchell will be making $75.5 million at age 34 in the 2031 season. That's 37.5% of the cap. Cap is not increasing the way teams want. Local revenue is falling, which is why the cap is kind of slowly increasing rather than jetting up. So to me, this is a contract that the Cavs had to sign that they've been gearing up to sign since trading for Donovan Mitchell. But it's going to turn into a Jalen Brown where he's a top five contract and a top 12 player. And I think that that is the worry to me. A small guard at age 30. Sometimes they age well. Not usually though.
A
A lot of similarities to Devin Booker I've seen as well, the type of massive deal sort of you got to. But ooh, how's that going to age where he is in terms of ye. Is he top 20, top 15, top 10 as he gets older, but still being paid like a top five guy, maybe Tas, what do you think? They had to do it. You agree with that?
B
Well, I think this is the second extension he signed with Cleveland. I think this is, it's. Yeah. Sort of remnant of what the Boston Celtics didn't do. Paying top two guys a lot of money, getting rid of Jaylen Brown because they're paying Evan Mobley a lot of money. But it's different than Boston because they didn't win a ship. And so you're paying Don Mitchell and you're paying Evan Mobley a ton of money. In 2930, those two guys will be making 132mil. Those two individuals, that's who they're building around. So it's a very different setup in ownership. If you're comparing Boston to Cleveland or, you know, even to Philadelphia, they're just so different now. They're still setting themselves up to try and build around Mitchell and Mobley. You know, they let Dean Wade go because that spot's right there for LeBron James to start at small forward when he wants. But I wonder if this setting themselves up until literally 2030, 2031 means LeBron could stay there for multiple years. LeBron can play multiple years, not just one. So your team is Mitchell, Mobley, Jared Allen. You're waiting for Harden to still sign an extension. He hasn't signed it. He will be for sure. There's talks about Kaminga coming in, maybe off the bench, and LeBron because they let go Dean Wade and they let go Keon Ellis. So yeah, it's a lot of money. There's no doubt there's a lot of money for a team that has gone to one conference finals, right?
A
Just got there, got swept. Yes, they got swept in the end. Blew that big lead. But it. I guess, yeah, it's a lot of money. These contracts, when you're at this level of player, they're huge. And these, these numbers are still eye opening. 4 years, 273 million. But if he had waited, like we said, TK got to the 10 year vet, he could have signed a 5 year, $353 million extension. With the Cavs next summer. So when you look at it like that, this is better for Cleveland. The last year, the last year and obviously, you know, less money there. He's just opting right now for financial security and I guess any sort of protection against injury here as he ages up, just to lock it in. It's a lot of money.
C
Yeah, exactly, It's a lot of money. But it, I don't, I don't know. To me it means this year is kind of the window for the Cavs, maybe next year as well because Mitchell will start to tail off. Yeah, unfortunately that's true. He's not huge and he relies on athleticism. He's a great shooter. So I think that that can continue going up. But like this year you've got 60% of the cap tied up in Mobley and Mitchell. Next year it's 66 and it just keeps going up and up after that. We literally just sat through a press conference of a guy who won a championship telling us, yeah, it's impossible to win a championship with two year guys making 70% of the cap. And the Cavs said, give us that. Yeah, we're going to try. They said, raise my rent. I love to grind. That's basically what the Cavs are going to have to do. These are your stars, Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley. Can they take you to the championship? We'll see.
A
Rui Hachimura, he signed for a lot less than Donovan Mitchell's contract extension, but he's not going to have to travel far at all to his new team, the Clippers. And Rui have agreed to a two year deal worth $28 million. So 14 per there for Rui Hachimura going to the Clips. Ty?
B
Yeah, he likes la according to Sham Shrine. You wanted to stay right there. This is year 8 and 9. Under this contract for Rui Etchamura, I wonder if he could have a 20 year career now. It's pushing him a long time because he's got into the NBA at 21. So he literally be playing till 41. But he feels like one of those guys. You could put him on any team. He could fire away from three and he could play really well defensively. So I feel like he could be
A
one of those guys.
B
Simple as that. The Clippers roster, really interesting. They know who they are with Garland and Ingram at this point. Unless they trade them plus Rui and then the younger guys. Keaton, Wagler, Neater Houser, Kobe Sanders, a Grady Dick. Your bench is Jordan Miller. Isaiah Jackson. There you Got vets and done Derek Jones Jr. And Brooke Lopez.
A
But well, I thought of you when this news came through. I think it came through on Friday, like after our show where you had said, or Monday, geez, whatever, where you had said the Clippers got to pay somebody here. Like you were looking at their, their, obviously their books. I was like they got to get to the floor. And so some of it, you know, goes to Rui here.
B
TK Peyton Watson is still an option
C
for, still an option. Brandon Ingram still a trade piece for the Clippers. So we don't exactly know what their team's going to look like, but with what they're putting together, at least here on July 8, it looks like maybe play in potential for the Los Angeles Clippers. They got some players that you know. But the way I look at it is this is a very cheap deal for Rui Hachimura, who's been one of the best high volume three point shooters for the past three years. He's making less per year than John Collins, less per year than Tobias Harris. I'm pretty sure that Rui's younger than both of those guys. You throw in the fact that the Lakers basically chose Grimes and Mamu over rui Hachimura and LeBron. I'm just kind of shocked that Rui couldn't get a better deal somewhere. I know he's a little bit flighty defensively. He's like his one skill is shooting the basketball.
A
Yeah, but he's a great shooter, good
C
skill and he always shows up in the playoffs. He's like 50% from three in his career in the playoffs. He has been a riser in the couple of chances that he's gotten. So I don't know, I feel like teams are going to regret not signing Rui Hachimura and let him go to the Clippers and just play some basketball.
B
Apparently he did have bigger offers and
A
he wanted to stay in la.
B
Yeah, yeah. I'll check my, my rumor sources. But yes, I, I, I did read somewhere he had multiple bigger money.
A
Yeah, that's true.
B
Was that, was that a Steiner? But that sort of makes sense because you're right, the best three point shooter in NBA playoff history here because he's shot a lot of them.
A
What's Luke Canard's contract? What does Luke Canard make? Not that you would know off the top of your head, but like I bring him up because I saw the stat that over the last three full seasons with the Lakers, Rui Hachimura has made nearly 43% of his three pointers, which ranks second only to Luke Kennard out of all of the players with at least 500 attempts. So high volume, great percentage over the last three years, but that's really his one. That sort of is his only skill at this point. He can pump fakie off that and step into a little midi, but yeah, not giving you much on the other end. Sort of like Luke Kennard.
C
2 years, 13 mil for Luke Kennard. Ruiz better and younger and bigger. So he should make more. But he should make more than twice what Luke Canard does, I think.
A
Okay, there you go.
B
He turned down offers from Golden State, Minnesota, Brooklyn and San Antonio. Now it's not clear how much those were dollar figures.
A
This guy loves la, man.
B
Yeah, I mean, I mean, turn it down.
C
Brooklyn, fine.
B
Yeah, they have a ton of money.
A
The warriors and the spurs is pretty crazy. That is. I mean especially the Spurs. That'd be a good role for you. They needed some clutch three point shooting in the postseason. You'd be one of the more. The vets guys. Wow. Okay, those reports.
C
LA, baby.
A
He loves la.
C
He loves la.
A
He bought the shirt says I heart la. He's like, oh, I gotta wear it. All right. Speaking of la, the Lakers have found a backup big man to compliment Walker Kessler. The team has agreed to terms with Kavon Looney on a one year deal for the vet. Minimum salary $3.9 million. Looney spent 10 seasons with the warriors, which I had to like triple check. I was like what? Hold on. He was there that long, won three champions. He last played for the Pelicans and that was an injury riddled year task. So he's going to the Lakers. Do you like this little move here?
B
It's fine. It's. It's a downgrade. It's a downgrade because Kevon Looney didn't play basketball last year. He played 20 games. So there's much on their top guys to reproduce a 53 win season. I don't think they do it. You look at the FanDuel line right now for the 26, 27 Los Angeles Lakers regular season wins. It's 44 and a half.
A
Wow.
B
Wow.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah. Because there's a lot on perimeter defense without Marcus Smart there. Now it's Grimes. You're going to be doing it as an undersized small forward beside Luca and Austin Reeves. And then there's a lot on their bigs beside those three guys. It's either Mamu or Jake Laravia starting at the four along with Walker Kessler who's going to be awesome. But then, yeah, they're, they're lacking their, their bench is now sex and Jaden Hardy, either Mamu or Larabia, whoever starts and Looney Dalton. Connect 4. Can you put it, can you connect it all together, man?
A
Wow. We still have hope in him.
B
Well, yeah, but still they're undersized. You know, I mentioned all those. And Jared Vanderbilt, I love you, man, but it ain't happening right now offensively in, in today's NBA. So I don't think they're coming to that 53 win total unless. Unless Luka is otherworldly. But there's a lot on those guys.
C
Yeah, I guess the Lakers basically decided we'd rather pay Kavon Looney $4 million than Deandre Ayton $8 million. And they said we just want a serious guy around here, not somebody who's going to be chucking up half court shop from his waist during pre games. Looney will come in, he'll screen, he'll rebound and he'll foul guys. He looks older at age 30 than Al Horford does at age 40. I don't know how this is possible that he's still. But he's a decent backup big man. There are guys that I would have liked better earlier in the transaction cycle. Like a dream would have been Mitchell Robinson for the Lakers. I know they were chasing Valanchunas potentially. I think Looney is a better option than that. We'll see if he's able to flashback at all to the Golden State days because the New Orleans season was just kind of a lost season for Kavon Looney.
A
Yeah. They told us they needed a backup big after Ayton got traded to the Wizard. So this is their backup big, of course. And he, he can obviously still set a screen. Like Trey said, he's a better offensive rebounder than a definitely was. Even Jackson Hayes. But you know, you just. Yeah, I think we think he's 40 years old. He's not. And he had the injury riddle season. So you're just hoping he bounces back. That's what they're hoping on. And it's obviously cheap as hell. And he's playing for another contract as well to sort of get back to the level. Maybe he was contributing with the Warriors.
B
Yeah. And he was a steady guy before last season. So as much as I, you know, poke a hole in that, he did play a lot of games before that for several years.
A
Yeah. You weren't poking a hole really in Looney as much as you are like, oh, look at the Lakers have had an interesting off season here. Yeah, they have. It's a different. Going to be a much different team in a way because it's still Luca and Austin Reeves, but a lot of other pieces.
B
Yeah.
A
And can they hold up defensively and all that? Sacramento Kings have waived DeMar DeRozan. They did this on Monday. They made the six time All Star one of the top free agents on the market. DeRozan had a partial guarantee on his contract for next season, but he and Sacramento worked on his release to allow him to find a new home. So DeRozan hitting free agency here. TK as expected.
C
And Jake Fisher said it's kind of between Toronto and Miami. Like TAS mentioned. I think the Golden State warriors are probably an option for DeRozan as well. Better story going back to the Raptors, but a better role for DeRozan I would think in either Miami or Golden State. Which is why I think the Toronto thing is more of like, oh, this would be cool then this is what's going to happen.
B
They got me. They got me. When they have that video of Kyle Lowry getting called by everybody. The names that jump on his phone that they, they throw in there. Demar DeRozan of course is one of them. Dwayne Casey, the head coach that made him great was also one of them. And so yeah, nostalgia for sure, that's a big part. The Heat Cavaliers I think are legitimate. I saw Matt George, who works directly with the around the Sacramento Kings throughout those two teams. Or does he stay in LA with the Clippers because he likes la? I mean, he doesn't stay in la, but you know, in that area because he's from la, that's a possibility there. If he wants to just get Chucks. Cause he'll get whatever shots he wants. I feel like with the Los Angeles Clippers at this point, you've listed a
A
lot of the teams he's been linked to. What I'll throw out one more though, just because of his agency. DeRozan, I believe is represented by CAA and the new York Knicks love CAA clientele. So I just wonder, you know, could there be a role from there if they, you know, you went off of Jordan Clarkson and you went more with DeRozan as that guy. Maybe, maybe. But I think it's more Miami, Toronto. I also think there's this weird. He is a bit of a maybe backup plan to some of the teams chasing LeBron. Like I said, the Miami of course, but the Nuggets, maybe the warriors, something like that. There's still a role for him. We think we would love to see him in that six man role. I think that would be very cool at the end of his career here over the last couple years to really embrace that. So we'll see.
B
Yeah. And then Nick still have spots that they can fill in because I guess Dylan Jeans or Dylan Jones, whatever you prefer, isn't on the roster. So yeah, they got Jeremy Sohan. Don't think he's coming back. But yeah, the Clarkson one, that, that's the kind of the one, right?
A
Jokic has reaffirmed his desire to finish his career with the Denver Nuggets. But he said he plans to wait to sign an extension. Why? Because he wants to wait on his next contract to add another year of max money to his deal which would be another like 80 million dollar extra. So he is gonna wait here until next summer tasks.
B
I believe this. I don't, I don't think is this is just him playing with American media because he said this in Serbian and I went and watched the clip and you know when you go to Europe you're just yourself. He's, he's out there balling and I think this is his legitimate self. Just talking, reading his body language as he said something in Serbian which I obviously didn't understand. But reading the caption as they show up, you know, my idea is to sign in Denver whether they will sign me or not. Hahaha. It's, you know, it's a joke. It's basically are they gonna sign me to an extension? Which he was up for last year too and decided to push it back to this year. And so you can say, well if he's pushing it back another year then he's just waiting to see what they build around him. But I think he's a one team type of guy. If they're willing to pay him. And they are willing to pay him. I imagine they aren't willing to pay a lot of guys, but I think they are willing to pay that guy.
A
By waiting until the 27 off season, Jokic will be eligible to sign a five year 359.5 million dollar contract. That's a real number.
B
I take it back. He's not signing with Denver.
A
That is crazy.
C
It's the largest contract in league history and he was a second round pick.
A
Yep. And he will probably sign that if you know, it sounds like he's going to wait till then and why wouldn't you? And he'll sign that there. Yep.
C
And in my perspective, zero reason to give the Nuggets a discount, because since they won the championship in 2023, it's been all cost cutting. Basically gearing up to have to pay Jokic this gigantic deal alongside Jamal Murray's gigantic deal alongside Aaron Gordon's gigantic deal. So this will be awesome for Jokic. I don't know if it'll be awesome for Jamal Murray, because once this kicks in, this bumps the nugs up to about 65% of the cap on just Jokic and Murray. Murray, that increases to over 70% of the cap. That's the Brad Stevens number that I'm never going to forget. You throw in Aaron Gordon, you're talking about 90% of the cap, which means Jamal Murray needs to start playing like a maximum player. Otherwise, he will be the one that they look at and say, how do we break this up into more pieces? Just like the Celtics did.
A
Yep. And I said, by waiting, you can make basically another $80 million. Our. Our friend Zach Harper looked it up, and apparently the most expensive racehorse ever sold went for $70 million. Yes. So Zach Harper's thinking, you know, maybe he's also got his mind, he's got his eyes on a particular horse. Just wait, one more. You get that money, you put it into the horse, it wins all your money back for you. Right. So, no, that's how he looks at it. He doesn't look at it in dollar figures. He looks at it in oats. Yeah. So, yeah, Denver's also got things to do here. He talked about Peyton Watson. Spencer Jones, I think, is still a restricted free agent.
B
Everybody said on LinkedIn he is negotiating for a big contract. Way more than he could have taken several months ago. Getting back to the horses. How much do horses make when they win? Like you said, 70 million through it. No, no, I mean, the most expensive
A
horse race ever sold, a horse ever sold was 70 million.
B
Okay. Yeah. But when you win the purse.
A
Oh, Jesus, I don't know. They win big ones, but not that. I mean, I can't imagine 70.
B
Yeah. What's the biggest.
A
But it's all.
B
What's the biggest race, Yoko? It's all horses.
A
Lineage with horses, man. Right. It's all DNA, baby. You're paid for the DNA.
B
Right, Right.
C
Exactly. You gotta start them out exactly.
A
As we all know.
C
Who could forget Roman Warrior, that Irish horse, according to Wikipedia, won $32.425 million.
B
Okay.
C
In their illustrious career. So about half of this horse. Yeah, but you gotta factor in the stud fees, don't you?
A
You do, you do. Also, Jokic I mean, I'm using the Zach Harper line, but Jokic is. He's into the. What do you call it? Harness racing.
C
Yes.
A
That's a whole different world.
B
Yeah. Jokic's horses never won anything. How do you know?
C
They did?
A
They did.
B
Oh, yeah, he was on there.
A
He was more happy about winning that race than he was the NBA.
C
Jamie, that's a great point.
B
They won like, what, 400, €000?
A
He's not allowed for the love of the horse.
B
I know. Yeah. It is interesting how they break down the rest of their team, though. That is for sure.
A
They've lost Tim Hardaway Jr. They've signed Tyus Jones. Marvin Bagley III, I think is on the Nuggets.
B
Yep, he is.
A
And then, like I said, we're waiting on Watson and Spencer Jones. I mean, that's it, isn't it?
C
Yeah.
A
There's not much else happening.
B
No, it's quite.
C
And they're going to want to keep their sheet clean until this $80 million a year deal comes up, so. I don't know that. The Nuggets have done the greatest job of building during Jokic's prime. They nailed it with the Aaron Gordon trade. They got screwed when Jamal Murray went out with an injury that season after they traded for him. That was their window, really, to win multiple championships. And now they're just kind of chasing it. And it feels like, obviously, teams have passed them by. Talent is going out the door in the last three off seasons for Denver and they're getting more expensive starting next year. So interesting times, I think, for the Nuggets.
A
All right, we got lots more still to get to. We'll play a little fill in the blank for the rest of the news. But first, a word from our sponsor. On the biggest stage in the world, FanDuel is changing the game because sometimes your player gets subbed off and your bet goes poof. Goes with them. Not anymore with FanDuel. Super sub. If your player is subbed out, your bet stays in, stays on the pitch. That's right. If your player leaves the match, your bet continues on with the substitute. So you're still in it until the final whistle. You love to see it. Visit FanDuel.com to get started Now. Let there be goals this summer on FanDuel. Not a lot of goals on Monday night for the American squad. A lot of goals against, but not a lot. Four.
C
Yeah. I mean, more goals than will be scored today.
A
That's true. There are no games on today, But
C
a disappointing end for the US Side playing their most timid and worst game against their bust opponent, who punished them for literally every mistake they made, which were many.
A
Oh, God, that goalkeeper one was freezing.
C
He had a brain freeze, I think. Just kick it out of there, buddy.
B
What happened to his left leg? Because he stopped it. Stopped moving.
C
Stopped moving.
B
What happened? He could have just.
C
What happened?
B
Kicked it.
C
Just kicked it.
B
I know America said the rest of the world kind of happened.
A
Oh, yes, yes, they were.
B
Yeah.
A
And you know, I'm. Fair enough.
B
Fair enough.
A
I mean, I was at a. I went to Decatur to. For a little bit of a watch party for the USA game. Obviously, Belgium scores first. Like, okay, vibe's pretty low. Then America scores.
C
That's right.
A
That was Tillman. Yeah. So the place euphoria. Oh, my God, we're right back in this. Of course it's tied up. That lasted what, three minutes? I think they scored like, basically scored
C
in like 61 seconds after it.
B
Yeah.
A
Oh, my God, it's even faster. Three minutes. Okay. It felt like three minutes.
B
That's what the broadcaster said.
A
And then it was a wrap.
B
Yeah. Yeah. Our team's most vulnerable after scoring because that's what the broadcasters say. That's a. That's a football thing. You score and then maybe.
A
Yeah, they waste all their energy running to the corner, chasing each other, taking off, celebration. They're all gas and they line back up.
C
That happened in Mexico, too, right? Like, they tied their game up 1:1 and then gave up a goal to England three minutes in.
A
Yeah.
C
Right after that as well. So maybe they're right.
A
Did you watch Argentina, Egypt yesterday or.
B
Yeah, what happened? What happened? Three goals and they're down two zip
A
in 1270 minutes or something.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
They were down. Tunes it like they were losing.
B
It was over.
A
It looked like it was over. It was like, wow, this is going to be a huge upset. Egypt beaten Argentina. Messi gone. Last World cup appearance was here in Atlanta. The game and then just like Messi got to work. I think he set up one, scored the second on a beauty third one. They scored right at the end in extra time and they won. I was like, what the hell just happened?
C
This dude's awesome.
A
But, yeah, no games on today. First time since the start of the tournament.
C
I guess I have to watch baseball tonight. I guess.
A
Okay, let's get into Fill in the blank. All right, A few topics here from the NBA world. Fill in the blank. Fun. First one. We alluded to it earlier. Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens says the team traded Jalen Brown to boost roster flexibility and add draft capital, calling the franchise's forward path more challenging than in recent seasons. Him and team owner Bill Chisholm denied the move was financially motivated. That definitely was brought up. But this was a long press conference. 40, 45 minutes. So I want you to fill in the blank. I'll start with you, TK Brad Stevens explanation for trading Jaylen Brown was too
C
much cap, too much usage. Which is weird to me because Brad Stevens was hitting it hard on the 70% of the cap figure. Talking about the Celtics winning in 2024, when they had a completely stacked team and Tatum and Brown were making about 45% of the cap, which allowed the Celtics to go out and get guys like Drew Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis. Like, they're bringing Al Horford off the bench.
B
Right.
C
Like, they had an awesome team when they won a championship as the contracts got more expensive. Having 70% of the cap go to Brown and Tatum means that you're losing out on guys like Jrue Holiday, who's now a trailblazer. Chris, that Porzingis, he's been on a couple of teams, the Hawks and then the Warriors. So you're seeing talent go out. So it's a little weird to me that Bill Chisholm's like, it's not financial. But then Brad Stevens is coming on and telling us it's about finances. I guess he's talking percentages and cap and team building. But it all factors in together. And basically what Brad Stevens was saying, we can't have all of our money tied up in these top two players. So then, of course, a Celtics reporter hit him back with saying, wait a second. Paul George makes a ton. Great follow up. You got me. But he makes it for one last year. Yeah. So I guess that's the thing. They got these picks, they got the optionality. And as we said, the day that the Jaylen Brown trade went down, these sort of things are going to become more common, where it becomes an albatross to sign your homegrown player. Which is why Brad Stevens was hinting at maybe teams should get a discount on the cap figure for a player like Jalen Brown. Like, he gets all of his money, he gets his 35% number, but it only counts as 27, 28, 30% of the cap. So it makes sense to keep them around rather than having to do the deal and then instantly being like, buyer's remorse. What are we going to do? So I thought this was kind of interesting because it's like the first look at the new era of the league, a GM coming out and saying, look, the owners won the CBA negotiations, we got a hard cap. And that changes everything about the way we build teams. And that changed the way we built this team.
B
Yeah. To me, he was talking in circles, sort of saying that it wasn't about money, while also at the same time saying it was about money. You know, he did a good job of that. And so, as you. As you said, he said, quote, we may not be sitting here if there was a rule in the CBA that said, guys you drafted and signed to 35% supermaxes count for 25 against the cap. Very, very particular rule. You know, it was great for basketball geeks, CBA geeks getting in on it. But you know, the lines where he was basically, you know, circling the wagon, saying Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown were 47% of the cap when we won it, also saying the path looked a little bit more challenging to me with 70 of our cap and such a high usage into two players. And then the question that got me. So you would say the trade is primarily a move to restructure the books? The answer is, yeah, but he said no. I would say it's a move to keep us at a very competitive level and give us optionality moving forward.
A
Optionality was a key word. I wrote optionality. Maxing is what he was doing there, though. He was fairly transparent, I will say. I mean, he's good at this. That was my big take. I was like, damn, he is pretty good at selling you on at least the vision or the reason for trading a very talented player in jelly, right?
B
Yeah. And here we are, Paul George, two years, the one year plus option. So that's what you got instead of. Instead of Jalen Brown at a lot of money. Different than what Philly's doing, different than what Dan Gilbert is doing in Cleveland. You know, paying guys up front. It's different. And that's a lot to do with the private equity in Boston. Simple as that. But Brad did what he could, you know, and when he referenced the two previous champions in OKC and now the Knicks, it's. It would. That part kind of was interesting because they're not paying, you know, two guys 70%. They're giving them optionality, as you said. So, yeah, he did a good job of it, but again, that's what it was about, while also saying it's what it wasn't about, but, you know, doing a good job.
A
He said a couple other things here, just to address them. He Admitted that advanced analytics played a role in the decision making, but a limited one. He said, quote, I would say that was a small piece of information because remember that became a huge debate. This analytics and these anonymous sources say, oh, Jaylen Brown actually ranks quite low on all these boards and all that. He also shot down Stevens, did some of the off court rumors that surrounded the jail and trade, the twitch stream, his thoughts and confidence and self confidence and all that. He, I thought at least in this play like bigged up Jaylen Brown. It's like it's not because of any of that. It was really like you guys are saying here, it's this idea of having two max players in this news TBA or as the CBA has unfolded here in the second aprons and it's tough. That's their thinking. He also conceded that if the exact same deal came from a team out west, he would have gone with it instead. But that's not the way it worked out. You know, this idea of like you're trading them to a rival in Philadelphia who just beat you, by the way, in the first round, a little weird. I guess he's sort of like, yeah, not our, not the ideal spot we'd want to send them.
B
But that was a fun, not a
A
lot of trade offers out there.
B
There was a, that was a fun Jalen Brown clip going around where he was talking to somebody saying Philadelphia, of all the teams, Philadelphia rattled his brain.
A
Yeah. So The Sixers have 97 of their projected cap tied up in Embiid, Brown and maxi in the 2728 season. And the Celtics projected 2728 cap, 88% will be tied up to Tatum, Paul George and Derrick White. I just bring that up to contrast the two here. It's. The Sixers are really going like you were saying this idea of like, well, okay, Brad's saying that that's all right. We'll give it a go. We'll try it out. And a part of it, you've already made your bed with the Embiid contracts like you'd like. How do you even get off of that? So maybe you just, maybe you do just double down. As silly as that baby sounds, you sort of get the reasoning too.
B
Yeah.
A
Next one. The honest trade became official on Monday, ending his 13 year career with the Bucks. The Greek freak released a video on his social media accounts where he said goodbye to Milwaukee, expressed his love for the city. Quote, I hope bringing a trophy to the city meant something to them because it meant so much to me. He said this during the video. A lot of nice parts in this task. And obviously the Bucks released a statement as well. Fill in the blank. Favorite part from Giannis's Goodbye to Milwaukee
B
post was, well, my favorite part was all the clips that were taken from his love for Milwaukee. It was filmed during an interview that was totally set up for pr And I. I loved watching that part because he was sitting with Jim Pashke, long time Bucks play by play guy who he loves and Pashi loves him. But they didn't show Jim Pashki once. Like, I went and watched the whole clip and saw that, but it was all PR and I trolled. Totally did believe everything coming out of Janice's love of Milwaukee and how it's blue collar and everything that he went through. I will say I did also like some of the video clips of him working out as a kid doing leg press where there was just one plate on either side that's 90 pounds. Like, he can. He can lift 90 pounds with his head if he wanted to. Now, like, that would be like 500.
A
He was real thin when he came into this.
B
Yeah, he was super. So that was really fun. All the words meant something to me. And they were real. They were real. And that was all part of the plan this year, giving this city one more full year of giantsetokounmpo playing basketball, and now he's ready to go.
A
Unfortunately, that year wasn't great.
B
No.
A
By both sides, I don't think. It was not a storybook ending, I would say.
B
But he was there and he did say, put me on the floor. I don't care if you want to make sure I'm healthy and I don't get injured to trade me and all that, but lots of good night, nice moments of him on the mic, but it was all PR and in the end, I guess you'll like the video if you're a Bucks fan. In the end.
C
H. Him leaving.
B
No, the video. The video specifically. Like, like, yeah, him leaving. No. But as I said, he made sure that he put in every single moment of sweat and blood and tear into the season to say goodbye afterwards, you know?
A
Well, I don't think Giannis is coming back in his first game in a Miami Heat uniform and being booed in Milwaukee.
C
He shouldn't be.
A
I don't think so. I mean, I'm not a Bucks fan, but it's a weird season, man.
C
It's a pretty weird season. He's giving thumbs down to the fans. I remember that.
B
Yeah, when they were booing, when they were Booing. Yeah.
C
Yeah, he did get booed at home during his last season. But the best part is seeing, like, young Giannis. This guy looked like a literal baby when he came into the league. Probably couldn't even grow a mustache. And now he's got all these muscles. I also don't think of him as a guy whose draft pick was announced by David Stern. Like, that just seems too far away for me to remember. It was Giannis, but, I mean, he was 2013 draft. I guess Stern left after the 2014 season. Maybe he left during the 2013-14 season. Yeah.
B
That may have been his last one. Yeah. Because Silver was dealing with Donald Sterling in 2014. Yeah, it must have been.
C
It must have been mid season, I think, right.
B
That he left.
C
Left in February or something like that.
A
So.
C
Yeah, I mean, I, you know, it's been around a long time. Yeah, that was the takeaway for me.
B
But when David Stern announced it, he said, selected Milwaukee box select.
A
I thought he did a pretty good Giannis, though.
B
Yeah. Yeah. He was concentrating on that.
A
Yeah.
B
And not on the words the Milwaukee Bucks have selected.
A
And we learned that Giannis will wear number seven with the Miami Heat. So he is switching it up.
B
Why is he wearing seven? I didn't notice that.
A
Loves Kyle Lowry.
C
Three plus four.
B
Lucky.
A
I don't know if there's a reason. I'm sure there is.
B
I just saw the news that he's
A
wearing number seven, and you can buy that jersey already. And I'm sure they'll sell a lot of them.
C
And I thought they said that they were working on a plan to have some sort of redress for people who have already ordered an Antetokounmpo 34 jersey.
A
Oh, I didn't see that. Because people were like, right away.
C
I guess so.
B
Yeah. Okay.
C
Can you. Can you name the four Miami Heat, whoever wore number 34? You could probably name one of them.
A
Did Karam Butler.
C
No.
B
The shack was ranked 34.
A
Oh, 34. 34.
C
Yeah.
A
Seven.
C
There's a lot of sevens. Not a lot of 34s. One of them is Dragic, probably.
A
Did he. Did he?
C
No. 34. No, I know.
A
I just want seven. Yeah.
C
Dragic was seven.
A
Okay. Okay.
C
Dragic, Lowry, Khalil Ware are the most reachable recent. Recent sevens.
A
Okay. 34. 34 on the heat, you said there's only a handful.
C
I think he could only get one.
A
Doliak.
C
Nope. Yeah, I bet he was 42. Nice. 51, apparently.
B
Cool number.
C
It's just one guy. He's a legend. He's a Hall of Famer. He hit the biggest shot in history. That's right.
A
Yeah.
C
Ray Allen, Eddie Curry, Willie Burton, Todd Mitchell.
A
Oh, really good. Wow. He scored 50 in a game one Sydney.
C
You did.
A
Yeah.
B
You did good.
C
You mentioned Milwaukee is a blue collar city. I agree, but I think every city is a blue collar city. In this kind of a video. The only city that you do not call a blue collar city is Los Angeles.
B
Literally.
C
Memphis. A blue collar city.
A
Yeah.
C
New York. They love putting on their hard hat
A
and going to work. Check out my boots. Toronto. Even Lowry was alluding to collar city. Yeah.
B
San Francisco. Francisco.
C
Blue collar city.
A
That one's pretty good.
B
Oh, come on. Blue collar. We go up to our tech offices and put on our hard hats.
C
It's just the easiest thing to say about the city.
B
Yeah, for sure, for sure.
C
But you believe it with Milwaukee. You should have called it Cream City.
A
That's true.
B
And it's believable with Giannis because he went from literally leg pressing one. One plate aside, it's pretty different now.
A
Yep.

Well, I was homeschooled, so I like

to think it was me. A class of one.

Congratulations.

A
Next one here. According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the way the Lakers approached the free agency of LeBron James was the deciding factor in why LeBron decided to leave the franchise this off season. Again, ESPN article, it's sort of a now you tell me article a little bit, but Trey, fill in the blank. ESPN's why LeBron broke up with the Lakers first article was confirmation that the
C
hand theory is correct. LeBron broke up with the Lakers before the Lakers could break up with LeBron. Basically, he's been around the league for such a long time. He's got an agent in Rich Paul who is connected with everybody. He knows the way that the cap works and he knew it was going to be cap space or LeBron. And if it was going to be LeBron, they wanted him to take a discount and LeBron said show me some plans. And they never showed him plans. So he said, fine, I'm leaving, but not until you signed my son.
A
Yeah, guaranteed him a couple million bucks
C
and I'm out of here. So this was not very surprising at all to me.
A
Yeah, I did write my fill in the blank exactly as expected. This is sort of what we expected and thought with this article.
B
But you but he didn't answer the first phone call. Apparently he said he was unavailable.
C
No Zoom.
B
Well, that was the shocking part to me. Speaking of zoom was that Rich Paul wanted to use a selfie stick while at Wimbledon to record his podcast.
A
What a weird part of this.
C
Weird.
A
That's how it started.
B
Still shocking that selfie sticks to are that useful. But it's true, they are useful. He wanted to sit there in the stands essentially holding a selfie stick, recording himself during the podcast. But in Wimbledon it's you can't take calls and there's no workaround. Even for an agent to go around the word calls. You know, a zoom meeting podcast doesn't apply. I guess. So, yeah, just questions about where did he film it? Because they don't do it live, so why not just go in your hotel room or whatever? And I guess he did, but that was the surprising part. To me. Selfie sticks are useful. Like, you probably see people run on your. In your algorithm and they have their handout filming themselves, but a selfie stick is better. Oh, and then you just put it in your belt and just keep going. Selfie sticks are still useful, even since Lee Ellis used it a decade ago. I think they're still useful. Gives you that distance.
A
I feel like.
B
Yeah, they peaked for sure.
A
Because now, if anything, I guess they are a version of a selfie stick. Like the one that, like, disappears. You know what I mean? How do you describe it? Jd, jump in and help me here. But, like, I don't know. I just see a lot of footage now where it's like, it's your phone or your camera is obviously on a stick of some sort. Okay. But the stick. You don't see the sticks.
B
Yeah, it's a 360.
A
360. Thank you. 360 camera. Yeah, it's pretty trippy.
B
It's pretty cool.
A
Yeah. How's that doing that? The technology behind that? Yeah.
B
Well, it shoots in 360, so it. The. The frame sort of. You can cancel it out.
A
Ah, okay. Well, it's pretty neat.
B
Yeah. Oh, yeah. That is cool.
A
My favorite part from this article. Let me just read it to you. Quote, this is from Ramona Shelburn on espn. Customized pillows and blankets were designed and presented to Austin Reeves. Steaks were ordered in. His favorite country music was played. Soon afterward, he agreed to a new four year, $185 million deal. LeBron James didn't want any of that. After the season, sources close to James said the most important factor in him resigning would be how the Lakers approached him. But what a hilarious counter there. So that's how they got Austin Reeves. Customized blankets and pillows. A steak. How's Austin Reeves like, his steak? Something tells me well done for some reason. And then. And country music. And he was like, I'm in, baby. Where do I sign? Run. Didn't want that. He's done this before, Tass. It's how you were approaching it. The whole thing is, he already knew he was gone. Yeah, like, that's what this is.
C
I'm not hopping on a zoom.
A
And so then it becomes, how do we get. Relay this message to the public. So everybody comes out okay. You know what I mean?
B
Yeah.
A
That I look like I chose to leave first. But you don't look bad. You've got your plan or building around Luca. You know, that was the massaging of the. You talk about PR, this is the ultimate PR.
B
Yeah, well, last week it was. LeBron is informing the team that he's leaving early so they can go out and sign guys. This one, Ramona's first line about him not answering the first call. A little bit on the other side that LeBron, you know, wanted to do his thing and was unavailable for that call. So yeah, everybody's happy now, though. I did. Liffey watched Austin Rivers go off on the Jeff Teague podcast. I know this is a little different here, but Austin Rivers went off about our man Rich Paul doing a podcast in general.
A
Well, it is wild when you start to think, especially when he's commenting on other guys money. And that's strange.
C
Yeah, that's what Teague said. If he's giving you insights into the way being an agent works, the way negotiations work, that's one thing. But like talking about what teams who have his clients on it should be doing is. I think Jeff Teague said out of pocket.
A
Yeah, I mean, I agree. Didn't he talk about Austin Reeves? Yeah, yeah.
C
So you gotta trade him for Jaren Jackson Jr.
A
So it's like what? Yeah, I don't know.
B
That's interesting.
A
Weird.
B
And that he's the only one essentially doing a podcast. The only agent, really. I imagine.
A
Anyway, game over, man. Game over. Game over. That's the name of the podcast. Yeah.
C
I also liked. That's. That's the Rich Paul podcast.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
C
What's that Austin Rivers called?
A
Oh, I don't know.
C
Yeah, same.
A
I got no idea.
C
Running the running point.
A
Somebody's.
B
Somebody's named that.
C
I don't know. I also liked the. The detail.
A
Off guard. Off guard. Maybe.
C
I like the detail that the Cavs have been doing like their 10 year anniversary trip for winning the championship. They had this golf trip with like LeBron, Tristan Thompson, J.R. smith, all these guys and they have matching jackets that say chosen family. Even millionaires like to make a matching piece of clothing for a bro trip, you know?
A
Well, you got a bro trip coming up.
C
That's exactly right.
A
Do you have any clothing items?
C
Well, our clothing item is two guys every year have to buy each other the most brutal polo shirt they can find for the next year.
A
Oh, because you do a golf trip.
C
Yeah, yeah. Golf trip to Devil's Hog.
A
Okay.
C
Formerly Devil's Head, now Devil's Hog.
A
Serious?
C
Well, we've rebranded it.
A
Okay. Now, have you ever bought the shirts?
C
I've never been the shirt buyer. This could be my year. Oh, I think. I think Tommy Poro actually is one of the shirt buyers this year, as well as Bryce, and Bryce is the weirdest guy we know.
A
So these will be.
C
This should be a nice, brutal shirt.
A
Nice.
B
Excellent. So how weird is it going to get? Will anybody pull out their hog?
A
The golf course?
C
I'm being quite honest. The mangina is more popular in this friend group.
B
Interesting, interesting.
C
So is it out?
A
I don't know. That's true. Work around, isn't it? All right, I got one more. I got one more. Las Vegas summer league begins on Thursday. That's tomorrow. And per usual, we're getting a matchup of the top two picks in the most recent NBA Draft immediately. AJ Debanza, Darren Peterson, 9pm on ESPN. We won't be there. We are not going to summer league this summer. He's got to show his mangina to his friends. He's traveling. Anyway, we were not going to summer league, but I did want you to fill in the blank. Number one thing you're gonna miss about Vegas summer league is you can say, man.
B
No, I was gonna go. Listen, the dry heat is what I'll miss. Oh, gosh, it's so damp here. Where. Where we live.
C
Call me Eric, because it's damp here.
A
Did he play for the heat?
B
Oh, yeah, yeah. It's like an 80% humidity every single day. Give me the extra 10 degrees of heat. Minus 50% of that humidity. I'm laughing, I'm laughing. But how about that Darren Peterson looking good already.
A
Oh, my God.
C
He's pretty good.
B
He's good. He looks good in Utah. Looking good right now.
A
We'll talk about more summer league stuff on Friday's podcast. By the way, I've seen some people saying, why are you talking about summer league? You know, the California Classic, the Salt Lake City Classic. We don't usually dive into those, but we're watching the highlights. And Peterson and even Boozer and. And the guys that have played a few games. They look pretty solid so far. Number one thing you're going to miss about Vegas summer league?
C
Well, the number one things I'm really going to miss are the large group dinners in the bamboo. Boys, of course, like, by far, I will say the marquee buzz is very exciting. Like that first big game, usually between one and two. I'm thinking specifically back to The Wemby year, that was awesome. But, like, the Lonzo Ball year was really cool. When there are big rookies coming in, it's very exciting. So DeBancer vs Peterson should be awesome. And I'm really going to miss seeing the one free throw for two or three. The G League rule that they're testing out in summer league should make those games just fly.
A
Oh, my God. I would think so. J.D. do you have an answer for this? Is it the dinners? Is it the bamboo?
B
Is just the Bamboo Boys. It's the pageantry of summer league, guys, honestly. And the heat. I mean, the dry heat is nicer than the wet heat, that's for sure.
A
Yeah, yeah. Still hot as.
B
But no bugs. He. No bugs. Which is what I really, really enjoy.
A
That is nice.
B
Great point.
A
It's a good point.
B
It's a good name for the podcast out there.
A
No bugs. But are. Are you really missing us? Not going to.
B
Not really. Yeah, let's. We'll save our pennies for Paris and Manchester.
A
There you go.
B
There you go. Two cities.
A
It doesn't feel like we were there last year, but we were.
B
I know, Cooper.
A
Yeah, but, yeah, it's strange. It doesn't feel like it was last year.
B
That feels like five years ago.
A
I know. So long ago. But, yeah, my answer was the Bamboo Boys. For those that don't know, Bamboo Boys are daily, safe to say daily gathering at the pool. Started at the Bamboo Pool at Cosmo. Thank you. Caught on fire then. I hope it's okay. I hope it's back. But we just call that for any pool now. Any gathering. The text goes out. Hey, Bamboo Boys, let's go see at 1 o'. Clock.
B
All right.
A
Pull it up for a bit. Yep. That's always fun.
B
Yep.
C
I read in the New York Times that the Las Vegas buffet is dying. Circa 2019, there was, like 70 of these gigantic buffets on the Strip. Now they're down to six.
A
Wow. I mean, we never were. We were never a buffet, but the Buffet Boys never really existed.
C
No, it never existed. I do remember, I think we went once, we went to Wicked Spoon at Cosmo, and it was when LeBron signed with the Cavaliers, I think.
A
Right.
C
It was a 2014 one.
A
I think you're right. 100. That's the only buffet I can remember going to together. Yeah, Wicked Spoon.
C
Yeah. We never went to him. And I was reading this New York Times article, and the author is, like, going to a buffet and getting stuff. And I was like, man, we should have done that.
A
We should have done that we should call all these crowd legs.
C
It's like 90 bucks a plate. Yeah, that's great.
A
Also, I don't have much of an Appetite when it's 45 degrees out.
B
I barely.
A
Can barely eat. It's the weirdest thing. Never hungry. You're just thirsty.
B
Yeah, there's lots of good food out there.
A
We had good meals in Vegas. Yeah, There weren't buffets, but we were some great restaurants. Miss that duck. I think about that duck we ordered every day, man.
C
Not 32.
A
Yeah, I'm good. We'll take 32. We should go. We should go. Just. Just go to eat.
B
Technical foul. That's why they call it that.
A
Let's call it there. A little fill in the blank fun. Hope you played along there in the stream team. Play along in the comments. Spotify comments as well. Fill in the blanks there. Talking about Brad Stevens. Explanation about trading Jill and Brown. Giannis's goodbye. The LeBron article on ESPN. And if you're not going to Vegas, number one thing you're gonna miss. If you've been there before, hopefully your answer is us, because we did do live shows when we were there and always had had a fun time. I did see randomly. I think I got a photo memory. It must have been when Matty O. Joined us more recent on stage. And he brought the visors. We had like the poker visors on. He had like a Vegas shirt on. They're funny. Look funny. At least there's like a. Behind us is a still from the hangover where they're in the elevator. Nice.
B
Yeah.
A
One of our questions we were talking about. I had some good times. Good times. Good times indeed. All right, well, we're going to take a break here. Back on Friday.
