Good morning, sweet world, and welcome to the no Dunks podcast podcast presented by FanDuel. It's Monday, July 13, 2026. I'm JD Skeets here in the classic factory and next to me, it's my top shot, hot boy, Trey Kirby. And over yonder, making the magic happen, super producer jd.
JD (Super Producer)
Hello.
JD Skeets
There he is. Here we are. Hello to everybody on YouTube. Hit the like button. Subscribe podcast listeners, five star ratings and reviews. No task this week. He's vacationing with his family in Yellowstone National Park. But he was kind enough to send in a picture from the weekend of what he's been up to. And he's been up. Yeah. Tas sending in this candid photo. Him being launched 10ft in the air by a bison.
Tash
Danielle's a great photographer.
JD Skeets
She really is. I can't wait for her to paint this. Interesting choice of task to wear the suspenders at the park, but do you my guy, hey, he's on vacation.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
JD Skeets
No crazy video. I'm sure that a lot of you have seen this thing went viral of this grandpa, it's a legit grandpa being chucked in the air by a bison. Now, he's okay. I think he's got some broken bones, but he seems mad spirits. Yeah. Holy crap.
Tash
And the. The actual photographer of this, I read one of the reports. He's like, don't worry, the grandpa and I'm assuming the grandson, they didn't do anything wrong. This is all the bison's fault.
JD Skeets
Yeah, this is what I've heard too. Somebody said, I don't know, a bison expert or somebody compared it to like your dog getting the zoomies. No, it gets the zoomies, like just sort of like generally around, you know, you know, around dinner time, maybe just after, just sort of goes crazy. This has a lot of energy. She needs to get out, but I don't know. And I. I think too. It made it look like they were maybe a lot closer to the bison than you should be, but they were actually quite far.
Tash
Pretty far.
JD Skeets
Yeah. Still that. It's. It is sort of funny. Like, it's like Looney Tunes.
Tash
Like, it's looney. Tunes. Like, it's really jackass. Like, like. John Knoxville would be so proud to see the flip that this guy did. Didn't need a second take, you know, he saw one take Wonder and he survived. Though they say he's not quite out of the woods yet. I'm sure. Like, I have to imagine every bone in his body is broken from the waist down.
JD Skeets
Yeah. He got taught. I mean, like the funny part again, it's not. He's fine. He's fine. But like when. When it's chasing him around the trees because he dodges it like once or twice. And then the bison gets all like caught up in a tree and then he. Yeah, then he spits back out and then he tosses. Crazy. Crazy. Task is okay.
Tash
Task is okay. I saw Chad Ochocinko said it's easy to juke a bison. They have no lateral movement. Just hesitate left, step right. It's that easy.
JD Skeets
Okay. He's a goddamn grandpa. First off, give the guy a break.
Tash
He's not a receiver.
JD Skeets
Yeah, yeah, true. He's more of a defensive player. All right. On today's podcast, I got a few nominees for NBA Worst of the weekend.
Tash
Excited?
JD Skeets
Yeah, Tash usually does worst of the week, but we're doing worst of the weekend. Cause I got some fun nominees. And take Trey can tell me which one is the worst of the worst. We also had a few eye opening deals that we need to discuss. Both Wemby and Gary Trent Jr. We'll get into those. But first, the first weekend of the 2026 NBA Summer League is officially over. And one of the biggest performances from the past few days was the number four pick for your Chicago Bulls, Caleb Wilson with 35 points. Now this was on Friday night, so we're going back a little bit, but I had to get your thoughts on your number one draft pick here.
Tash
This happened on Friday night. Got a lot of text messages about it. Saw you saw Dave Grisham on Saturday. Grisham wanted to talk about it. So I've had Caleb Wilson on my mind for like 72 hours here.
JD Skeets
Sure.
Tash
I'm trying to temper my reaction. I don't want to be hyperbolic, but the Bulls are back. Caleb Wilson is the steal of the draft. He's going into the hall of fame and he's going to lead the Bulls to their seventh title. I think it's pretty obvious.
JD (Super Producer)
Wow.
JD Skeets
It's that obvious.
Tash
Like I said, I'm trying to be pretty chill about it.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
Tash
35 points, seven threes for Caleb Wilson. The scouting report on him coming into the draft is not a big shooter. He made seven threes during his entire season at UNC last year. Of course, I immediately flashback to Zion Williamson hitting four threes in his first NBA game. He's hit 29 total his next 275 games.
JD Skeets
Wow.
Tash
So I' saying it's a guarantee that Caleb Wilson is now a shooter. But apparently he's taken 2000 to 2500 jumpers a day for like two and a half straight months. He's working with lethal shooter. Apparently he understands it now and it was just exciting to see the confidence he was shooting it with. Off the dribble, off the catch, taking heat checks when John Wall was like, you better take a heat check right now. And he made it. And look, this is maybe going to be the craziest thing I say the actual physical shot release that Caleb Wilson has, it looks like Michael Jordan.
JD Skeets
Wow.
Tash
The way his hand comes is very MJ esque. I don't know that he's gonna grow up to be Michael Jordan, but maybe he'll grow up to be Kevin Garnett. I would be fine with that as well.
JD Skeets
Yeah, you take that. You would take that. Look, Bulls fans just must be ecstatic here because like, I know it's a game or two and something, but. But look, this is why, you know, we had the draft this way, right? Be bad, get a high pick and hopefully then you have a thing called potential, promise, hope, whatever you want to call it. And you have that at least going into this season. Like, are they going to be a good team? Probably not. Maybe one of the worst teams still in the Eastern Conference. But just the idea of like, if this guy gets a chance, why wouldn't he Is maybe the real deal for all you see on the court in these games. I'm just as impressed by all his like post game interviews.
Tab Ramos
Oh yeah.
JD Skeets
God, this kid is good. Like all the saying the right things and like he was upset it was a loss.
Tash
Yeah.
JD Skeets
You know, again it's like, does it matter at summer league? But like I buy it too. Like, you know, he's sincere when he says this stuff. So yeah, that was, that was a hell of a performance.
Tash
Seems like he wants to be a Bull and even after the game he's like, I'm glad I didn't shoot well in college because it means I get to come to Chicago. So. Yeah, I'm in love with Caleb Wilson. I would marry him.
JD Skeets
Wow. So you have. Whoa. You have two Caleb.
Tash
Caleb Dubons, Caleb Williams. That's right.
JD Skeets
That's right. With the Bears and the Bulls. Holy man.
Tash
I would love to see them high fiving or like, you know, like Predator handshaking together.
JD Skeets
Oh, yeah. Oh, we're gonna get something like the classic Kevin Garnett, Randy Moss sort of photo shoot.
Tash
They should do that.
JD Skeets
I mean, why wouldn't we get a Caleb Williams and a Caleb Wilson? Yeah, that was great. Any other summer league takeaways? Like, how much do you watch of this stuff?
Tash
I'm a highlights man.
JD Skeets
Yeah, that's probably the best way to go about it. I tried watching the Raptors game the other night. It's horrible. Guys. There was 61 fouls called in a 40 minute game. Like it was brutal. And this is my team that I'm watching and there's like some positives from players and stuff, but it definitely, it feels like it's more made for just like catch the highlights now. Now you're not getting the full story with a lot of those. No, but man, some of these games are a slog.
Tash
But look, I mean, Caleb Wilson's not playing 48 minutes. You know, you're going to have to catch some Noah Essingay minutes as well. And he didn't play nearly as well, nor did Dalen Swain for the Bulls, but the big guy coming through was huge. We also got to give a quick shout out to Marco Bellanelli because they were saying Caleb Wilson had the record for points scored by a rookie in their summer league debut. Okay, I guess that's the now official record because of however long they've been keeping stats. He got to 35 points. But all of us old people remember Marco Bellanelli going for 37 in his first summer league game. So I guess he actually has the record. Nonetheless, Wilson was awesome. But also Cam Boozer was awesome Against Caleb Wilson, 23 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists. For Boozer, he looks like he's going to be the best player on the Grizzlies from day one. To me, a lot of his buckets came against Caleb Wilson. And Wilson's touted as a defensive prospect as well. You can just see the maturity that Cam Boozer plays with, the versatility in the way he finishes plays, he creates plays. He scores off the dribble, he scores off the catch, he just looks very, very savvy. Looks like he's a guy who's in his second or third year playing in summer league, making the game really, really slow down. I love that moment where he picks Caleb Wilson's pocket at half court. Goes the other way for the dunk. The only complaint I would have with Cam Boozer is number 27 is an odd choice for a big man. Yeah, you see with a guard sometimes, I guess Rudy Gobert wears 27 as well. But yeah, that was an odd number choice to me. But he looked awesome as well.
JD Skeets
I mean, I think we're going to have a pretty awesome rookie of the year race when we actually get to the real season with these top four picks. And then you never know. There's usually a wild card or two that maybe pops off for a couple months because Debonza looked really good again in his second game. 23 points, seven boards, three steals, pair of blocks. Really nice block on ACUFF. I think one was 24 minutes too. So they're sort of like, you know, he's not going heavy. Heavy minutes. It was tough to watch the Kings actual rotation players sort of get destroyed by DeBonso, Will Riley, who looked great as a sophomore. Yeah. And. And then a bunch of G league Wizards guys, like I'm talking Nate Clifford, obviously their high pick in Acuff, who's really struggling from the floor. Dylan Cardwell, Maxime Reynold came over and he played like these are rotation guys. And the Kings, they got like sort of crushed early in this game that you never want that again. None of this really matters. But like guys that are there a couple years, like they sort of should be laying the ass kicking. Not getting crushed. Never gets.
Tash
Yes. I mean, both the Kings and the Wizards are sending teams that will be representative of their NBA teams.
JD Skeets
Yeah, right.
Tash
And it looks like the Wizards are somehow better than the Kings. And I think probably the worst thing you can say about Acuff is he seems to already be getting the James Harden, Luka Doncic treatment where you're seeing all of his off ball defensive mistakes get clipped into highlights that are being shared on the Internet. Kind of just saying, what is this guy doing? Cause he'll guard the ball for five seconds and then whoever passes off and guaranteed that guy's going to get wide open and a cuff is just going to kind of be wandering around aimlessly while the play is happening on the other side of the court. So he's going to be a guy to keep your eyes on. I Also thought Keaton Wagler looked a lot more comfortable in his second game against the Jazz. Went for 23 points and four assists. He scored 18 in the third quarter. Most of them were coming off catch and shoot threes. Playing off ball, which I think is good because Darius Garland we know is going to have the ball the majority of the time for the Clippers. At least he will be their initiator to start things off. So I think it's good for the Clippers to see Wagler have a bounce back game and to see him have a game that kind of makes sense with your star in Darius Garland.
JD Skeets
Yes, much better. He's got a funky release to me. Yeah. But obviously one for seven in the opener against Acuff and he bounced back like Treso with 23. Again, the Jazz, you know, sort of going toe to toe with Peterson there in terms of scoring that, that of all these guys and I, they all look young because we're old now. He looks so young.
Tash
Baby face, baby face.
JD Skeets
Like you could tell me that kid's 15, I'd be like, yeah, wow, he's a big 15 year old, but much better. As for the Suns, good weekend. I thought from Malawatch, who I think is important, obviously a sophomore here, so you want to see that growth your second time around. He didn't play a lot for the Suns last year as a rookie, but 19 points, 11 rebounds on Friday against Portland. Followed it up against the Pelicans on Sunday with 15 and 15. And the thing that got everybody talking was he went 5 for 11 from distance. So he hit some 3 or at least took threes and then hit some. He didn't obviously play a lot and didn't take a lot in his rookie season. But you know all these guys now, no matter how big you are, you got to be able to stretch the floor a bit and at least be a threat. So that's a nice promising sign for the Suns because I think he'll, I actually think he will play for them this coming year. More of a chance.
Tash
Yeah. And they, they're still going to need size. You know, Mark is the man, but I think Malawatch is the future man for the Suns and I don't know if he'll ever become a shooter, but at least he's able to try it out in summer league. Another guy that impressed me, we talked about him last week, LeBaron Filon. Just looks like he's going to be a rotation player for the Sixers. I mean, they've got their starting backcourt set in Maxi and Edgecombe, but you can see how Filon would fit in as their third guard. 24 points, 6 assists against the Pacers. Just looks very poised playing in pick and roll. Like, he gets guys on his hip and keeps him in jail. He changes speeds, he changes angles. He just knows how to attack the pick and roll. Draw two guys and find somebody for a bucket. So I thought that was pretty nice to see for Philadelphia. Like, it looks like they're going to have a dude who actually plays for them once again being drafted in the 20th. The other thing I thought was pretty funny. Derek White coached the Celtics. He did exactly what we said. The Celtics were like, just go out there and coach.
JD Skeets
Yeah, that's what we said.
Tash
And then they just delete all their tweets about him.
Tony Ayo
Yep.
Tash
They're like, nobody look.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
Tash
So maybe they'll get fined, like, $25,000 for not asking. But at least he got the experience. At least he got to tell Ugo Gonzalez some plays.
JD Skeets
Yeah. Our friend Mike Zakarian is out at summer league, and I definitely saw him tweet about it and share a photo. And I responded. I said, hey, that's illegal.
Tash
You can't do that.
JD Skeets
Allowed to do that if you're the Utah Jazz and Keonte George, why can Derek White? Yeah. So silly. My only other takeaway was Kenny Atkinson was on the call for some of the Cavs summer league game. They do this a lot. When you watch any of these games, if you do and you're a real sicko, they'll bring a coach on, he'll sit there for a quarter or something. Kenny Atkinson sure sounded pretty confident that LeBron James would be returning to Cleveland. He did not say LeBron's name, but a lot of people were reading into how he was talking about the offseason and sort of moves still coming. So will we find out today, this week, soon from LeBron of where he's actually going to go and will it be Cleveland?
Tash
Sure.
JD Skeets
Feels like it's going to be there at this point.
Tash
Feels like it's going to be Cleveland. It's the best ending to the documentary. Yeah. Did Kenny Hackinson say anything about the analytics?
JD Skeets
No, I don't think so. I want to see it analytically.
Tash
We look great with LeBron in the lineup, but we don't have it yet, so who knows?
JD Skeets
Yes, that's right. So I don't know. There's reports that we're going to find out this week now, you know, with World cup wrapping up, I guess soon, I know, LeBron was at the Jay Z show maybe, maybe one or two nights. It was there on Friday night. He may have been there again.
JD (Super Producer)
Sure.
JD Skeets
So maybe he got that out of his system now.
Tash
Now he can decide. Maybe he had his vacation. Maybe he went to a concert. Time to get back to business.
JD Skeets
Yeah, exactly.
Tash
Maybe so.
JD Skeets
Maybe. We'll see.
Tash
I think he'll play this next season with a gray beard.
Tony Ayo
Mm.
Tash
He hasn't dyed it like would be cool.
JD Skeets
Yeah, I'd like to see.
Tash
I am the oldest guy here.
JD Skeets
Yeah, I hope so. I hope he leans into it. One thing I love about summer is how easy everything feels. JD Skeets
All right, let's get to some transaction news. Let's start with the Milwaukee Bucks signing Gary Trent Jr. To a four year, $64 million deal. Let me say that again. The Milwaukee Bucks are signing Gary Trent Jr. To a four year, $64 million deal. I believe it's fully guaranteed. The contract has many skeptics, including the athletic Sam Bassini I saw who said, quote, the NBA should probably take a look at what is truly a nonsensical contract here, given that Trent just averaged eight points per game and shot 39% from the field in 22 minutes per game last season. End quote there. Sam was not alone. There was a lot of people going, what the hell is going on here? Was this like a bit of a wink wink deal for those minimums he was basically taking when they were trying to make it work with Giannis and then Dame and made the move with Miles Turner, all that? And then this was the thank you for taking the minimum. Here is an insane contract for a guy that's really struggled after last year at least. What do you think?
Tash
I don't remember a player signing a contract and then the reaction being we got to investigate the team. Clearly they're doing something illegal here. The lead story on the Athletic when I opened up the athletic.com today, top left for me, why Gary Trent Jr's $64 million deal with the Bucks shocked the NBA world in the grand scheme of things. $64 million. Gary Trent Jr. Milwaukee Bucks Low level in the NBA right now after the Giannis trade. But this is the thing that shocked the NBA world because like you're saying he had basically his worst season since his rookie year, only shot 36% from three. Only 39% from the field fell out of the rotation for a team that didn't make the playoffs and they hit him with this gigantic contract. Really, really weird. He's still only 27. I guess the best thing you can say about this is it's a nice matching salary if they ever want to throw it into a trade. Even after signing this deal, the Bucks are going to be bottom 10 in salary. So when they winked wink this, they probably didn't think it was going to be because Giannis was gone, but at least they can still afford it. But wow.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
Tash
Unbelievable that this happened. It seemed like Gary Trent Jr. Could have been had on a minimum by basically any team in the league, but only one team would give him $64 million.
JD Skeets
Right, right. And then when you go back, you know, he had a solid performance in 24, 25. He actually played much better. He shot the three ball well. And then he returned to the Bucks on the minimum. And that was a little sort of like, wow, Gary Trent Jr. Had signed a bigger deal with the Raptors. You know, he made money and then suddenly he's like, as he enters his prime, going back to the minimum. And that's why people are going, well, hold on. They obviously him and his agency were like, okay, hey, man, like, we're trying to make the books work here. We're trying to keep Giannis happy, trying to make all these moves. You take the minimum now and then no matter how poorly or great you play, I guess, don't worry, man, we got you for a long term contract. And so then I guess unfortunately for Kerry Trent Jr. Or maybe the Bucks too, because now all eyes are on it, he has a shitty year. But then they give him this deal. This is the 8th largest contract signed from free agents this summer. Trae Young, Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler, IO Dosumu, Tari Eason, Isaiah Hartenstein and Kobe White, they got more. And then It's Gary Trent Jr. So that's why it's like, whoa, 16 miles for Gary. And on a team, like, there's a lot of guards on this team.
Tash
There are a lot of guards. They traded for Tyler Hero, Braden Burry.
JD Skeets
That's right. They traded for Caris Levert. They still have Ryan Rollins. They still have Kevin Porter Jr. I mean, now they still have Gary Trent Jr. There's a lot of guards here. I mean, hell, they still have Dame's dead money on their books.
Tony Ayo
Right.
Tash
That might be their highest paid player.
JD Skeets
So weird. Do you think anything actually comes of this investigation if it's to happen from the league at all? Like, because people are like, this is sort of similar in a weird way to the Joe Smith way back.
Tash
Okay, sure.
JD Skeets
You know, that gets compared to the Kawhi scandal a lot. But it's actually more like this a little bit and sort of these like, wink, wink deals. And now they got punished in the end.
Tab Ramos
True.
JD Skeets
And it only came to light because his agency, they sort of broke up and then they sort of like turned on each other. And that's how the Joe Smith news came about. But then they got. The team got, you know, stripped of draft picks and stuff like that, and his contract got voided. So, I mean, I guess that could happen.
Tash
I guess it could happen.
JD Skeets
But people are like, maybe the punishment in and of itself is Giving Gary Trent Jr. Yeah, you got to pay $64 million deal. Yeah. It's like, okay.
Tash
I don't know. The only other. The one thing I was thinking that also was kind of similar was you remember Richard Jefferson was a San Antonio Spur. He had a down season. He had like, maybe like a $15 million option or something like that. He turned it down and took less money but more years from the Spurs. I thought it was kind of similar to that. I guess you're technically allowed to tamper with your own free agents so they could talk about future deals with Gary Trent. But I don't, I don't know.
JD (Super Producer)
I don't know.
Tash
I don't know what they're going to do. But it had everybody talking about a Gary Trent Jr. Contract, which was shocking to me. I think it's crazy. The Raptors traded Norm Powell for Gary Trent Jr. Like 20, 21, because they're like, we can't pay Norm's next deal when he's 28 years old and Norm Powell is still better than Gary Trent Jr. And still making more than Gary Trent Jr. Even after this one. That's unbelievable to me.
JD Skeets
Weird thing. Also, trivia question. How much do you think Gary Trent senior, his dad who had a nine year career, I think nine, ten year career, how much do you think he made in his career?
Tash
15 mil.
JD Skeets
Pretty close. 11.4 million. It's just like wild to wrap your head around his entire career and his son is making that blink of an eye. Has already made that. Of course, in contracts.
Tash
He has timing, man.
JD Skeets
Just wild timing. All right, so we'll see if anything comes of this. Let's hear your opinions out there in the stream. Team of Gary Trent Jr. Is the punishment in and of itself just having to pay him or do you think there'll be more? And the league investigates this and it's like, oh, you can't do that because it is sort of salary cap circumvention as well. You know, you had this deal minimum, suddenly this. It is weird. It's very weird.
Tony Ayo
Yep.
JD Skeets
Victor Wembanyama has signed what will be the richest contract in spurs history. Five year extension that could exceed $250 million. The agreement first reported by ESPN comes at a discount though. Wemby could have agreed to a deal that topped 300 million, but he chose a lesser amount to help give the spurs flexibility going forward here. And I'll explain this for some that don't know because max contracts are divided into tiers, right? And players like Wemby with four to six years of experience, they can start their new contracts at 25% of the cap. However, players who hit certain benchmarks then can leap up into the next tier. We've talked about this before with players. So if Wemby had won MVP or defensive player of the year, which let's be honest, probably likely made all NBA next season, he would have been eligible to jump from the 25% max tier to the 30% max tier. But Wemby, but what Wemby is doing is basically saying don't worry about that. I'm foregoing those escalators. I'll take the stairs. So he's just taking the 25% max, no questions asked and no matter if he's MVP. DPOI all NBA, there's no 30% sort of bump up. Your reaction to this, which made some waves I guess over the weekend as well.
Tash
It did because anytime a player doesn't take the most money they can get, it's going to be notable. I guess Chet Holmgren basically did the exact same thing, right? Take in the 25% and say and I'm staying at 25%. This is basically just a comrade Wenby redistributing wealth amongst his own teams. The spurs have a long time culture of sacrificing to build their teams. Richard Jefferson did it. Tim Duncan did it. I'm sure it's happened for others as well. He's saving the spurs. What'd you say, 50 million basically over five years. Assuming he was going to hit the escalators, which he probably would so early on that means they get an extra Harrison Barnes or a Tobias Harris. And then a little bit further down the line it means that they're able to pay these expensive contracts. Castle, once Dylan Harper becomes extension eligible as well. If you're Vic, you're saying, hey, $250 million, I will take it. So good for the spurs, good for Victor. We'll get into the Players association reaction to this, but I think Wemby will be worth it. I do believe so.
JD Skeets
I thought there was one other interesting wrinkle to this is from Sam Quinn. I'll give a shout out to him at CBS Sports. He said the sink most important element of his contract for San Antonio has less to do with roster building than it does with load management. Because and this is interesting, the 65 game rule as we know and have talked about it does incentivize or it has injured players sort of suit up to hit that mark and make as much possible money as they can. We saw it with Tyrese Halliburton. That's the one example. Right now, Wemby has no contractual incentives to risk any sort of injury or aggravating an injury to hit that benchmark, because he's like, I'm not doing it. We've agreed on that. So that's sort of good for him and the spurs, that they can continue if they want to slow play his sort of development here. He doesn't play a ton of minutes or hasn't here. They can keep that. He did miss time and just hit the threshold, so I thought that was interesting. I hadn't thought about that way that, like, now there's no pressure on him or anything like that to really hit any of these marks because it won't matter in terms of the money he'll make.
Tash
So.
JD Skeets
Yeah, but you're right about the history of the spurs and their players and how they work. They more work together to try and help the team. Because you said, Duncan, I think Tony Parker's done it. I think Ginobili's done it. So, yeah, just add Wemby to the list here. He looked happy signing the deal.
Tash
He looked happy. And he kind of scooped everybody as well, sending out a slightly cryptic whatever it takes. Yeah, I'll be here.
Tony Ayo
If it.
Tash
If it takes $250 million, I will be here. Things are gonna get interesting, though, for San Antonio in the next couple of seasons. Because when you look at what Wemby was making last season, heading into this season, he's like 10% and under of the cap. Suddenly, he's going to be going up to 25%. Things get a lot more tricky. You are still, even with Vick taking a little bit of a discount, they're going to have to make tough choices about who to sign for long term, which players they determine are expendable or aren't going to be a part of the future. And this is just kind of the first step. So Wemby goes from being like a great discount contract. He could probably still be a discount contract at a 25% number, but it's going to be. It's going to be tough for the spurs to figure out their books eventually.
JD Skeets
Yeah, because like you said, it's like every year the decision has to be made with, like, what percentage of max guy, like a castle is up next. You know, not this year, but the year after. And then. Then it's Harper and, like, Fox is still there on his massive deal. So, like, I guess a lot of us think Fox probably won't be there by the time all three guys, Wemby, Castle and Harper are having to have been paid big money. I doubt it because then it gets very difficult. But that's a couple years down the line. Well, let's talk about the Players association because their executive director, David Kelly, he criticized the NBA salary cap and luxury tax system. On Friday, he argued that the newly implemented apron must be softened, to use his words, or removed. Quote, we are not fans of the second apron. Again, this is Kelly, the National Basketball Players association executive director. We did not propose the second apron. We should have done a better job of fighting back against the second apron. In the future, we will have a much more unified union and we will do a better job of fighting back. He went on to say, we're seeing the apron system decimate teams and force decisions to be made that are not basketball decisions, end quote. Your reaction to the NBPA sort of saying like, you know, players got to carry the burden here.
Tash
Yeah, they're basically saying, whoops, we didn't realize that the second apron meant that owners were going to stop spending money into the second apron. Only the Cavs last year went into the second apron. It's there basically to protect the owners, to keep them from spending money and I really think to give them cover for paying to keep these teams together. Because at this point it doesn't make sense from a basketball standpoint to go into the second apron. Which then means every owner looks smart for not paying extra money when real in the reality they could pay extra money. Like the Knicks could still have Mitchell Robinson.
JD Skeets
Yeah. And you say that because they say, well, look, look at the roster building.
Tash
Look how hard it is to make trades. We can't aggregate. We could get our draft pick frozen. There are certainly good basketball reasons you don't want to go into the second apron. But the reason it was put there was from financial standpoint, the players, they get 51% of basketball related income. No matter what, the amount of money going to the players is going to be the same no matter what. This just sucks for players because you see a guy like Jaylen Brown where the team says, even though you've been here for a decade, done some great things for us, your number is going to hang in the rafters someday. It doesn't make sense for us to pay you. That sucks for Jaylen Brown. That sucks for Celtics fans that have grown up watching Jalen Brown. They're going to be breaking apart teams. It's going to happen to Every team, Celtics, they're breaking apart. The Thunder are going to have to make some decisions eventually. We saw with the Wolves, they're top three. We saw it with the Wolves. We saw with the Knicks are losing a player from their championship team immediately. It just means that these gigantic payrolls aren't going to continue to exist. So yeah, I don't know what the deal was, but the fact that the NBA PA is saying we should have done a better job of fighting back, seems like they were completely caught completely off guard by the way this went down.
JD Skeets
But doesn't Silver in the NBA don't like, don't they love how this is actually working? Like they love sort of the idea of Jalen Brown having to be dealt and stuff like this. The idea of parody. Yeah. Player movement of like no super teams. No matter how great you draft and you knock it out of the park. Like some gay. Some say, man, that's awesome. Why aren't we rewarding those teams? But they almost look at it like, no, but we want to take, we want to disperse the talent. So we want, we want like all 30 teams to have maybe one or two guys or at least one really good max guy. And like it's a lot more even that way more competitive. That's how I think Silver's probably convincing himself. Like, wow, this is killing it, right?
Tash
Yeah. But do you think that's good?
JD Skeets
No, not really.
Tony Ayo
Same.
Tash
It's not good for fans.
JD Skeets
Yeah, no, no, but and like I think even in this article, because people are saying, oh, look at the apron system, man. Like right now there's a leveling of talent. We are in this long phase of like no back to back champs. Like we're eight different teams have won over the last eight seasons. But even he was like, well that was also happening. That already happened before the second apron was in place here and these restrictions were in place. So it's like, well, is it really because of that? Yeah, yeah, it's. It's interesting. For those that don't know, I mean The NBA utilizes $165 million salary cap. Okay. Then it's about a $200 million luxury tax line. Then any team that exceeds 209 million, that's the first apron. That's when stiffer luxury tax penalties and stuff like that restrictions come in by way of trade, by way of free agency. And then the highest spending teams, you said the Cavs, the ones that exceed 221.7 million, the second apron, they incur the harshest luxury tax penalties. And then Restrictions, too, that really make it difficult to add in free agency, do trades and then even drafts as you get to that second apron. So. But that's what they agreed to.
Tash
This is the thing they agreed to. And I think the union. I should. I think now, yeah, the union is basically like, please give teams some relief for homegrown stars is what it seems like we heard Brad Stevens kind of referencing that. I thought it was interesting that Fred Van Vliet brought up that you're hearing players, coaches and GMs now talking about the second apron. It's not just front office people. Right? Like, everybody is realizing this, but the worst player to be right now is the second star on a team because they're going to be looking at you sideways saying, oh, should we really max this guy? And even if they decide yes immediately, your contract is going to become an albatross and the team's going to be like, would we be doing better if we had somebody else? Like I said, it's going to happen to Jamal Murray. Like, he's going to be the guy when Jokic signs that. And it's like, okay, are you playing at a max level? Not yet. You're out of here. Even though you won a championship, you've been here for a decade. That sucks. If you're a fan of a team who has two great players that you drafted.
JD Skeets
Yep, no doubt. So, look, this is in place for at least a couple more years here, right? Until they. They can 28. Somebody can after 28.
Tash
29. Series is when. That or season is when they could negotiate again.
JD Skeets
And I assume this will be a huge talking point when they get to negotiating. For sure. All right, we're going to take a break, and when we come back, worst of the weekend on the biggest stage
Tash
in the world, FanDuel is changing the game because sometimes your player gets subbed off and your Becky goes with them. Not anymore. Not anymore. With FanDuel's super sub. If your player subbed out, your bet stays in. That's right. If your player leaves the match, your bet continues on with the substitute. So you're still in it until the final whistle. Visit FanDuel.com podcast to get started now. Let there be goals this summer on FanDuel. I wish we were having some goals today. I wish we were having some goals yesterday.
JD Skeets
I know. Yeah, we got a little gap here between these games in the World cup, but tomorrow, France, Spain, Wednesday, England, Argentina. These are four powerhouses here.
Tash
Yeah.
JD Skeets
So this should be fun. Three o' clock start Eastern time. Here in the state. That's part so strange. I know there's the world. I get it.
Tash
We're the host country, but they're producing for the rest.
JD Skeets
Yeah, I know.
Tash
That really feels like 3 o' clock
JD Skeets
on a work day. I mean, it is a summer, but people do work, so.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
JD Skeets
Fascinating. And then Saturday, I guess is the third place match. And then Sunday is the final. So only four games left.
Tash
That's cool that they do a third place.
JD Skeets
I know.
Tash
Nice.
JD Skeets
Let there be goals in the third place match game. All right, let's get to worst of the NBA weekend, ladies and gentlemen. The worst of the week end. Yeah, Switching it up here because I thought I had some fun nominees to throw at TK and everybody watching live and listening later. So let's start with this one is a good worst of the weekend. Former Heat teammates Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro were involved in a physical altercation in Las Vegas on Friday morning. Some morning altercation, not a night altercation in Vegas. The incident took place at a gym inside the Resorts World Casino. That part made me laugh. That's why I wanted to include that. According to multiple sources who witnessed the incident, Bam walked onto the courts, Hiro maybe said something to him. Bam approached Hiro, and without hesitation, boom, Bam punched him. I guess in the face, in the eye area. I think he had a little bit of a black mark, but not too noticeable because you saw Hiro after this. He was at the gym, but I
Tash
was holding my phone, like, very close to my face. I could see a bruise.
JD Skeets
Yeah, I didn't see.
Tash
Not much.
JD Skeets
No, not much. Maybe he didn't connect or whatever. Who knows? Um, but yeah. So this is in the running here. Bam. You punching Tyler hero now. Why? Well, by all accounts, it's because a fan leaked a bunch of DMS that he had with what appeared to be Tyler Herro on an IG account. You know, sort of questioning Bam's contract, being the guy in Miami, and then obviously Hiro being moved. So that obviously makes its way to Bam and whatever. They have words. And he's upset about this. Yep, I guess. Now, I don't think you should go assaulting somebody over critical words through ig. Not a good look, Bam. But what's your takeaway from this?
Tash
This doesn't sound like something that would happen in 2026 to me. This is like a 1996 sort of thing happening.
JD Skeets
Like a Charles Oakley.
Tash
That was the first guy I thought of. I mean, take your pick. Charles Oakley vs Tyrone Hill or Jeff McInnes I didn't think that Bam out of bio was a Charles Oakley type at all.
JD Skeets
Right.
Tash
But apparently he is. If you're saying he's not worth $60 million and is only an elite defender, sometimes unusual from Bam, I wonder if he will get suspended. We've seen, like, off court altercations lead to suspensions with guys like Isaiah Stewart and Drew Eubanks.
Commercial Voice
Right.
Tash
Like, if you get in a fight off the court, the NBA can still punish you for that. But also weird stuff for Tyler Hero to be trashing a teammate to just some random dude.
JD Skeets
That's. Yeah.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
Tash
Weird all around.
JD Skeets
Very weird all around. And now, of course, what's happened is Draymond Green and you don't as Haslam are beefing over this because Draymond saying, hey, Haslam, where's the energy for calling out Bam here when you took offense to me punching Jordan pool way back in the day? And then of course, Haslam has responded. So there's. Now that's a whole other layer that I don't know how closely you're following at all. But yeah, it's a good point about maybe there's a suspension here, like a game or something. It's a good point. The league does do this and it's in front of everybody. It's in front of people.
Tash
Saw this high school kids.
JD Skeets
There's that as well. Not. Not the greatest look. Yeah, probably. I hadn't really thought about it, but the league moves slowly with some of this stuff. Things are just lining up here. They still got to figure out the aspiration thing.
JD (Super Producer)
Exactly.
JD Skeets
Now they got Gary Trent Jr. To investigate. Bam, you're at the back of the line. We'll get to you when we get to you.
Tash
That's a good time to throw fists.
JD Skeets
I guess.
Tash
We got other stuff on their plate, but it makes Heat versus Bucks even more spicy. Like it already felt like Hero was feeling some type of way by the Bucks.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
Tash
Trading for him by being in trade rumors for a long time with the Heat until it finally happened. And now obviously Bam is not a big fan of Tyler Hero. So we'll see how it goes down when they actually play each other.
JD Skeets
If we were to build an all burner team, who would be on it? Because, you know, again, Hero getting himself in this situation, I'm not saying Bam should go up and punch him. That's. I think you're crossing a line. Obviously, you can question him and talk to him. He probably should have done that. Justin left it there. But Tyler Herro, I guess is now on the all Burner team here.
Tash
Yep.
JD Skeets
Captain Kevin Durant.
Tash
Yes.
JD Skeets
Michael Porter Jr. Has definitely is on record saying he's been in the Burner game. That's three. Brian Colangelo has to be involved, so he's got to be the GM or the president. Anyone else I'm missing here?
Tash
Okay, here's the controversial inclusion. Would you include Adam Silver? He doesn't officially have a Twitter account, but he said he has Twitter and is constantly lurking. And we can tell by a lot of the decisions that the NBA makes that they're clearly invested in what people are saying on social media. I know he does have his Instagram account, but I would throw him in on the X mix as well.
JD Skeets
Okay.
Tash
Ray Allen had some funny things happen thinking he was on a burner and wasn't exactly on a burner.
JD Skeets
Yes.
Tash
Feel free to Google that one.
JD Skeets
Okay.
Tash
Ray Allen, Nasty Rick. Billy seems to be a generous lover, if I'm remembering correctly. But yeah, if you're trash talking a fellow NBA player, guess what? It's going to come out eventually.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah.
Tash
At basically the most inopportune time for you. So don't be surprised when it happens.
JD Skeets
Yeah. I mean, yeah, probably don't do it at all, but definitely don't do it to some rando randos that then could just leak it all, which is what this, I guess Heat fan did here. And then Bam. Got upset. Yeah.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
JD Skeets
You said. Yeah. Milwaukee versus Miami. I don't really put much thought into this. Obviously the Giannis factor alone. But now you got this little spice. Like when are we getting this game on the schedule? Because this is like, you know, Milwaukee's not gonna be very good.
Tash
No.
JD Skeets
So it's not gonna be, to me, it's not gonna be like an opening week game. I don't think it's not gonna be a Christmas game by any means. I don't know where you put this one.
Tash
Giannis return to Milwaukee will be exciting. Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a first week game.
JD Skeets
Okay. Maybe at the end of the week.
Tash
Yeah, like Saturday.
JD Skeets
Yeah, maybe. Yeah, sure.
Tash
We'll see.
JD Skeets
Okay, well, how early will they put it? Maybe now the schedule makers are like, we got to get it early. Hero versus Bam. They might fight. All right, next one here for again, worst of the weekend. This is Lakers center on the. On the summer league team. William Kyle III's free throw form. It had the broadcast shook at summer league. We had Stan Van Gundy, we had John Wall on the call and here it is. For everybody on YouTube, this is the slow mo replay of this thing coming out of his hands, like, damn near sideways, man. It is a funky ass Release. So Kyle III's free throw form. You know, I mean, I guess if we're. I'm. I'm. I'm presenting these NBA worst of the weekends to you in no particular order, but is this worse or, you know, less worse than. Than Bam. Punching Hero?
Tash
I mean, this is one of the worst free throw forms you're ever gonna see. Stan Van Gundy sounded like he just woke up, was like, oh, wow. He said wow three times in 45 seconds.
JD Skeets
And then John Wall called it AI. That was like AI trying to, like, replicate a free throw.
Tash
I thought they're like, yeah, but he's a shot blocker. He's a shot backer, plays his game. He shot 45% from the free throw line. I don't know how it's be gonna.
JD (Super Producer)
That's.
Tash
That's even possible.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
Tash
People were just saying, obviously this guy's been around basketball for the majority of his life, but still the ball comes out of his hand that way.
JD Skeets
Yeah, I know. Unusual. It is very unusual. It's like. Yeah, it's. Is this all. Is it all in his head at this point? Because, like, he's an. He's a professional athlete. It's like this.
Tash
I don't know.
JD Skeets
Fixed. Yeah, but that is. I don't know. It's for the podcast listener. You got to seek this one out because it's.
Tash
There's no flips of the wrist.
JD Skeets
No, there's nothing. Yeah, it's almost the ball. Almost like pop a shot type shot you would maybe do.
Tash
It does look like he's getting it up with some speed.
JD Skeets
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like he thinks another ball's coming. Yeah, yeah. And just all get them up on the rim.
Tash
That's amazing.
JD Skeets
Like, it makes like, you know, like a joke. Noah, free throw look like, right? Like, you know, Klay Thompson or Steph Curry. Okay.
Tash
It has a little Noah to it.
JD Skeets
Yeah, it's got a side sort of spin, which is odd. Maybe it's the angle there. Okay, cool. So what's. Yeah, what's worse? Bam, Punch in hero or that free throw.
Tash
I'm going to go free throw.
JD Skeets
Okay.
Tash
Free throw worse.
JD Skeets
Okay. Wow. All right, well, he's on an Exhibit 10 contract with the lake.
JD (Super Producer)
Great.
JD Skeets
And he does do other things. He's not out there for free throws for sure. All right, next one here. John Morant still adjusting to his trade from the Grizzlies to the Blazers because he was speaking to reporters for the first time since joining Portland and John Morant was asked to autograph a white Blazers jersey. He obliged, but then he quickly realized he had made a mistake. Oh, my God. John Morant said, I signed with the number 12. And you see there, the jersey is now number one. He's changed his jersey, this pick by way of our guy Ben Gulliver, who was at summer league doing a great job. So. Yeah. How bad is this?
Tash
Pretty funny.
JD Skeets
Yeah, very funny.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah.
Tash
I was watching A School of Rock recently and there's a scene when Jack Black, playing a character named Dewey Finn, who is playing a substitute teacher named Nedge Nibly. He takes Joan Cusack out for drinks and he's like, call me Dewey. And she's like, dewey. He's like, that's. That's my other name. That's what John Morant did. But the one is literally right there. He reacted like, oh, no, I signed the wrong number.
Tab Ramos
Number.
Tash
You gotta practice.
JD Skeets
He's been 12 his entire basketball life.
Tash
High school, college, all this stuff.
JD Skeets
So that would be tough.
Tash
Definitely.
JD Skeets
I mean, just cross out the two.
Tash
Interesting. Would you rather have number 12 with a crossed off two or the incorrect number? I don't know.
JD Skeets
That'd be sort of a fun way to go about doing his autograph. Like always cross it out. I don't know. Now, he did say something. He sort of snuck in and people were reading into it maybe. But the idea of the changing of the number to one, it sounds like the Blazers might have something in store for lamarcus Aldrich.
Tash
Yes.
JD Skeets
Who, you know, obviously a legend. There were number 12. Maybe there's a Jersey retirement and it's going up. And that was a big reason why he changed. I think that's possible. So we'll see. But. So a lot of people are thinking
Tash
like, yeah, must be.
JD Skeets
Okay, what's going on with this 12? Are we going to get a Lamarcus Aldridge, you know, jersey retirement, which I think he would be deserving of there in Portland, I think.
Tash
Yeah. I mean, obviously that's what must be coming down the line. I would have to check his leader stats, but I wouldn't be surprised if a guy like lamarcus Aldridge is top five in a whole bunch of categories for the Portland Trailblazers. What do you think about this idea from the Stream team? Everybody's saying he should have just drawn a nice little number 2 next to the 1. Rather. Rather than cross out the 2 on 12, add a 2 to the right. Of the one on the Blazers jersey. So it's now a 12 jersey.
JD Skeets
Oh, on the actual.
Tash
Oh, my God, he's making the jersey into.
JD Skeets
I got you, I got you. Yeah, I was a little confused there. Well, yeah, that's an option. Yeah, absolutely.
Tash
Look ridiculous too.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah.
JD Skeets
Look, I do feel for John Morant the odd time I've been asked to sign stuff at live shows or fans of the show, and we have no problem with that. I always have to catch myself. I'm about to sign my actual, you know, signature, my legal name, and I go, oh, no, they're not going to want that. So, you know, I have a second one. So I do have. Yeah, I got the J Skeet signature. But I always catch myself. I'm almost do it. I've done it multiple times where I've stopped it. Oh, hold on. Okay, let's go with the J there.
Tash
Did you ever practice, like having to learn a new signature?
JD Skeets
I did. I didn't put much thought into the J Skeets because I think I remember the first time somebody ever asked for one. I was like, oh, well, what am I, what am I saying? So I just went, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, it looks fine, I think.
Tab Ramos
Good.
JD Skeets

JD Skeets
All right, final one here in worst of the NBA weekend. This is adjacent. Decorated boxer Shakur Stevenson was misidentified as OKC Thunderstar Jalen Williams midway through Saturday night's UFC 329 event. So there it is. It says, Jalen Williams, OKC star Dana White. He was not happy about this steak. Did you see the conference?
Tash
He.
JD Skeets
He. After this whole thing, he was like, we are the absolute worst to ever do the celebrity thing. When we put celebrities up, we are the worst. We put a fucking graphics and put the wrong guy's name on. He was pissed because he's like, I paid Shakur Stevenson to come. Yeah. To this event. Now we can't even, like, get the thing right on his name. So, yeah. Bad. It's so funny to me. Like, he doesn't look at anything like Jalen Williams. He looks like Anthony Simons a little bit to me, though.
Tab Ramos
Okay.
JD Skeets
Like, if you're going to make a mistake, put up Anthony Simons. But yes. Where does this fall in the worst of the NBA week?
Tash
I mean, this is pretty, pretty bad. I don't know who Shakur Stevenson is. He's a boxer, apparently, but maybe this isn't good for him. This is the first time I've heard his name.
JD Skeets
Oh, true, true.
Tash
So even bad press is good press. I would say. Dana was making me laugh, though.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah.
Tash
He's like, I was fighting with some guys in the back. They're like, soccer's worse. They put players up there. They don't even put up a graphic. They don't even say the name. He's like, no, we put up the wrong graphic. So I don't know which is worse.
JD Skeets
I do get frustrated during the, like, a lot of this World cup action. They'll go to a box And I'll maybe know one of the guys, but, like, I don't know a lot of them.
Tash
Definitely not.
JD Skeets
And they don't put up.
Tash
No, they don't. So he's Zach Levine was crickets when he was like, there's a guy wearing glasses.
JD Skeets
Guy looks important. Yeah.
Tash
I don't know which is worse, not identifying anybody or saying it's the wrong guy. I guess saying it's the wrong guy is worse.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
JD Skeets
Jd, let's get your opinion on this. You've worked in many, you know, production trucks and stuff like that. You've called for these lower thirds.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah, but not in a live game. Sort of of live situation. I mean, we've gotten.
JD Skeets
Well.
JD (Super Producer)
Okay.
JD Skeets
Did. Did we ever have a mistake like this at summer league? You know, live shows, guests. Sometimes we're changing at the last second.
JD (Super Producer)
Oh, we've had spelling mistakes for sure, on guys names, you know, who we've never heard of, and they're guests on the show, you know, but. Yeah, this is unfortunate. I wouldn't want to be in the truck when this happens, you know?
Tash
No, no.
JD (Super Producer)
Somebody got fired over this just based on Dana White's reaction, which is unfortunate, but also, you can't. You can't do this. You just can't do it. It's bad. It looks bad.
JD Skeets
It's so hot. Like, how did that even happen? Was somebody just one of those, like, super confident people in the truck going, that's Jalen Williams.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
JD Skeets
And I was like, sure? Are you sure? Yeah.
Tash
That's him.
JD Skeets
That's him.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah. I mean, that's all strange to me.
JD Skeets
But it. Yeah.
Tash
Was he there? Was Jake.
JD Skeets
That's what I was wondering.
Tash
I don't have any idea.
JD Skeets
I mean, he could be right? It was in Vegas, a lot of these guys, I know a lot of the Raptors were at this event, so, like Scotty Barnes and a couple of guys were. So. Yeah, maybe.
Tony Ayo
Okay.
Tash
He was.
Tony Ayo
Okay.
Tash
He was there.
JD Skeets
Okay. So they so, well, look like if
JD (Super Producer)
you sidle up behind a camera person at a game, you'll see them have a grid of players, faces of the opposite of the opposing team. Right. Because sometimes. Sometimes you just don't know who people are, especially if some guy's coming off the bench or whatever.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
JD (Super Producer)
You know, so you, you know, the director is saying, you know, get this guy, and you need to know what they look.
JD Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
JD (Super Producer)
I mean, if. If they paid a bunch of celebrities to be there, you know, I'm sure there was a grid like that.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
JD (Super Producer)
Then people don't These are UFC people. They don't necessarily know, so I don't know.
JD Skeets
All right, well, those are the four nominees for Worst of the NBA Weekend. We have Bam Punching Tyler Hero. We had a crazy free throw form from William Kyle iii. We had John Moran accidentally signing his old number on his new Blazers jersey. And we have, you know, mistaken identity here is not Jalen Williams, though. I think he looks a lot more like Anthony Simons. I'm sticking with that.
Tash
He looks more like Anthony Simons than he does Jalen, that's for sure.
JD Skeets
Yeah, that mistake I could. I could accept, but not this one.
Tash
Seems like a flawless UFC card, though. Outside of this.
JD Skeets
Well, everybody was joking. Bam. Adebayo threw more punches than Conor McGregor did in Vegas this weekend. That was a good one going around.
Tash
That is good.
JD Skeets
So what happened? He came in with a. He basically came in with an injury.
Tash
That's what everybody thinks, but he and Dana say no because of the gambling implications from it. But, you know, he's just a loser, Conor McGregor is.
JD Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
Tash
He was good for a while, and then he got too big for his britches, and now he loses every time he goes into any ring.
JD Skeets
Now the. Who's the, like, the new Irish guy?
Tony Ayo
Patty.
Tash
Patty.
JD Skeets
Patty. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. His name is Patty Pimplett. Cannot get more Irish sounding than that. So it's fake. Yeah, but he.
Tony Ayo
I think.
JD Skeets
Did he. Was he on this card? Did he win?
Tash
I think he did.
Tony Ayo
I think he did.
Tash
Yeah, I think so.
JD Skeets
Okay. All right, well, a bunch of random stuff here from the NBA world. And again, sports adjacent, stuff happened. Yeah. Tonight. MLB Home Run Derby.
Tony Ayo
Right.
JD Skeets
It's on Netflix. It's on Netflix.
Tash
Okay.
JD Skeets
They've changed things, though. Instead of outs, hitters will get a limited number of swings per round. That means no 40 homer rounds anymore, I guess, which we've had a couple times since, like, 2019. Hitters get 20 swings in the first round, 15 for the second and the third round, 15. I guess there was some, like, there. There's, like, some pushback on, like, these guys are, like, getting, like, you know, 200 swings, like, maximum rips and not injuries, but maybe exhaustion. I don't know. And I think people have said, too, they want to, like. They're trying to get it more into, like, a structured time, too, because if, you know, a guy hits 40 home runs, things can go forever. I guess so. So they're trying out these swings. Maybe it'll be exciting.
Tash
I mean, I feel like they change the format for the home Run Derby more often than the NBA changes the rules for the dunk.
JD Skeets
I know, I know.
Tash
Are MLB fans constantly complaining that the Home Run Derby is dead? I thought the biggest complaints recently were that we weren't seeing the home runs get to the stands. Like, they have to cut back to the swing too quickly because the ball was in flight for so long.
JD Skeets
It's a tough production. Elliot Element.
JD (Super Producer)
Yeah.
JD Skeets
It's hard to.
Tash
Hard to follow that ball all the way out there and then come back to the.
JD Skeets
Oh, but this maybe helps that because this is more probably like you can slow down. It's not timed or anything. Yeah, Yeah, I didn't think about that part. Do you want to name. Can you name any of the. The guys participating in the Home Run Derby tonight? It's in Philadelphia. By the way, it's a bit of a. Bryce Harper. That's right.
Tash
Yeah.
JD Skeets
Yeah. There's another Philly, too.
Tash
Schwarber.
JD Skeets
There you go. Yeah, there you go.
JD (Super Producer)
Yep.
Tash
I think he's leading the MLB and home runs.
JD Skeets
Okay, so you got those two guys.
Tash
Give me Wilson Contreras from the Boston Red Sox. Red Sox.
JD Skeets
Yes, he is.
Tony Ayo
Nice.
JD Skeets
You got a Yankee in here? Judgy? No.
Tash
Stanton?
Tony Ayo
No.
Tash
Chisel?
JD Skeets
No. This guy's food related.
Tash
Food related.
JD Skeets
I've never heard of him. Ben Rice.
Tash
Ben Rice. I never heard of that guy either.
JD Skeets
Put him in the slow cooker.
Tash
There's a guy from the Tampa Bay Rays. I don't know his name, but I know he's like, maybe second in the MLB and home runs.
JD Skeets
Yes. Yes. No, think not. Senior. Junior.
Tony Ayo
Junior.
JD Skeets
Junior.
Tash
Alcantara.
JD Skeets
Oh, Caminero.
Tash
Junior Caminero. Yeah, I heard that. The pool for the first time this weekend.
JD Skeets
Yeah, we got. We got a guy from the White Sox.
Tab Ramos
Is that.
Tash
Is Jordan Alvarez in there?
JD Skeets
Japanese guy? No, no, no.
Tash
Japanese guy.
JD Skeets
Yeah. Japanese guy I've never heard of.
Tash
Matsui's back.
Tab Ramos
No, no.
JD Skeets
Murakami.
Tash
Okay.
JD Skeets
I don't.
Tash
I don't know. Anyone think about the White Sox, really.
JD Skeets
And then you've got a Cardinal. Paul Goldschmidt. He's gone. Long gone. No.
Tash
Stan. Usual. Oh, Maguire.
JD Skeets
No. Jordan Walker.
Tash
Okay.
JD Skeets
And then one more. Another royal or our first royal? I guess just Joe Caglioni.
Tash
Joe Caglioni.
JD Skeets
Yeah. He's young. Sure, I think he's young.
Tash
Wow. He wasn't born in the 1950s.
JD Skeets
Wait, his name's not Joe? What did I call him? His name's Jack.
Tony Ayo
Jack.
JD Skeets
Jack. Sorry.
Tash
Jack Caglioni.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
JD Skeets
Okay.
Tony Ayo
There you go.
Tash
Maybe I'll watch.
JD Skeets
Yeah, it's on Netflix. Throw it on.
Tash
It's on Netflix.
JD Skeets
I know.
Tash
Watch that. Flip over to the Zach Lowe podcast.
JD Skeets
Smashing.
Tash
That's pretty weird.
JD Skeets
Bill Simmons will be live immediately following the Home Run Derby. Yeah. So anyway, who you got taking this thing? Gotta be one of the Philly guys, right?
Tash
Contreras. I'm going with Contreras.
JD Skeets
Wow.
Tash
Yeah, he's grooving it right now.
JD Skeets
Give me Schwarber. This is his third Home Run Derby appearance. Second as a Philly. He's got.
Tash
He's got a natural swing.
JD Skeets
Absolutely.
Tash
World Series champion.
JD Skeets
So that is tonight. And that means the All Star Game is on Tuesday night.
Tash
Okay.
JD Skeets
I guess the World cup didn't want to go up against the couldn't compete the All Star Game. MLB All Star Game game. Our buddy Grish is going to to Cosm tonight for this.
Tash
For the Home Run Derby.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
Tash
They have Netflix.
JD Skeets
I guess so. I guess so.
Tash
So he's got to sign in on that big screen.
JD Skeets
Hold your phone up to the QR code.
Tash
Don't forget to sign out, though.
JD Skeets
Cosm, for those that don't know, it's sort of like. It's like, sort of like the sphere, but maybe a smaller scale, but a sports fear. Yeah, looks good. The giant ass screen. Yeah, it could be fun. He's taking. Obviously taking my godson. So, yeah, we'll see. We'll get the report. I'll make sure by the time we're back here on Wednesday to get the report from my buddy. Your buddy. Our buddy Grish. Excellent on the Home Run Derby at Cosm you mentioned. Not cheap, by the way. These tickets are insane.
Tash
I did a lot of looking when you were talking about maybe a World cup attendance. They're pricey.
JD Skeets
A couple hundred bucks to sit in the actual sphere.
Tash
Does it come with anything or is it just a seat?
JD Skeets
No, I think you gotta pay for all your food and drinks. Like you're looking at like a. You know, whatever.
Tash
Probably a $400, like going to a concert.
JD Skeets
Okay, what were you gonna ask them?
Tash
You know, in the World cup, they show anybody who's in the stands. It'll be professional athletes from North America. It'll be famous people. You know, it'll be Brad Pitt or anything like that. But then they also show the soccer legends. Yes, That's a tough one to me.
JD Skeets
That. See, that's what I was talking about. I forgot you showed they like other NBA players. I was thinking when they show the soccer legends, and they're always like, on the broadcast, murderers row there. And I'm like, I think I know the one guy. Yeah.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Tash
Proudest I was was they showed the Mexican goalkeeper who did the like the Scorpion. I was like, that guy looks like the scorpion kick guy. And then they brought him up.
Tony Ayo
I was like, whoa.
Tash
Yeah.
JD Skeets
Did he still have like.
Tash
That's exactly why he got the mullet.
JD Skeets
Yeah.
Tash
He's got the bass player from a 1980s metal band look going on. That guy's sweet, though.
JD Skeets
Oh, yeah, I got.
Tony Ayo
That's cool.
Tash
One cool kick ever. They're like, come to the World cup forever, man.
JD Skeets
Smart man.
Tash
Great seats.
JD Skeets

Quince's 100% European linen pants and shirts are breathable, easy to throw on, and the summer upgrade your rotation needs starting at just $34. We need breathable here in Atlanta. We with this hot weather. So they work. Their tees are soft enough to live in all day and the lightweight cotton sweaters are exactly what you want when summer nights cool down. Everything at Quint's is priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands. They work directly with ethical factories and cut out the middlemen. So you're paying for exceptional quality, not brand markup. I've become a bit of a quints guy. I'm not gonna lie. I love the 100% European linen relaxed long sleeve shirt. I like this for going out at night. I can't wear a T shirt out to the bar or restaurant so you throw on this. Still breathable, great look. Bunch of different colors. They even have a few limited edition colors so I am a fan of that. Episode: Bam Clocks Herro, Wemby's Discount & Gary Trent Jr. Got Paid How Much?
Date: July 13, 2026
Hosts: JD Skeets, Trey Kirby, JD (Super Producer)
Key Topics: NBA Summer League, Big Offseason Contracts, On- and Off-Court Dramas
This episode of No Dunks dives deep into a spicy NBA offseason: from wild Summer League debuts and eyebrow-raising contracts (we see you, Gary Trent Jr.) to physical altercations, legendary misidentifications, and the economics shaping future league parity. Skeets and Trey keep it light, nerdy, and raucous—with plenty of sidebars on NBA culture and memes.
[06:36 – 17:12]
"I'm trying to temper my reaction. I don't want to be hyperbolic, but the Bulls are back. Caleb Wilson is the steal of the draft. He's going into the hall of fame and he's going to lead the Bulls to their seventh title." (07:23)
"He sure sounded pretty confident that LeBron James would be returning to Cleveland… A lot of people were reading into how he was talking about the offseason." (16:43)
[22:47 – 34:57]
"The NBA should probably take a look at what is truly a nonsensical contract here, given that Trent just averaged eight points per game and shot 39% from the field in 22 minutes per game last season." (22:58)
"The best you can say is it's a nice matching salary if they ever want to throw it into a trade… But wow. Unbelievable that this happened." (24:58)
"This is basically just Comrade Wemby redistributing wealth amongst his own team… He's saving the Spurs $50 million over five years." (30:15)
"We should have done a better job of fighting back... we're seeing the apron system decimate teams and force decisions not based on basketball." (34:57)
"Worst player to be right now is the second star on a team… your contract becomes an albatross and the team's gonna be like, would we be doing better if we had somebody else?" (38:28)
"Silver…loves the idea of Jalen Brown having to be dealt… parity, player movement… but is it good for fans? Not really." (37:14)
[41:45 – 62:56]
"This doesn't sound like something that would happen in 2026 to me. This is like a 1996 sort of thing… I didn't think Bam out of bio was a Charles Oakley type." (42:49)
"He said wow three times in 45 seconds.” (47:59)
"We are the absolute worst to ever do the celebrity thing… we put up the wrong graphic, it's bad, it looks bad." (57:58)
"Maybe this isn't good for him. This is the first time I've heard his name… but even bad press is good press." (58:35)
