right well great to have you back we had some fun here with friend week with mike zakarian ben gulliver and then here in studio yesterday you guys are great guys were crushing it so good to have you back though let's get into some games a little bit later you got a fun top five for us but let's start with cade cunningham returning to the lineup last night for a blowout pistons win over the bucks he had missed eleven games with the collapse to lung but he comes back i thought he looked okay had the double double in his return and it's not like they missed a beat no without them they looked you know guys had more of an opportunity and played great but your thoughts on cade

cunningham in his return could this have worked out any better for the detroit pistons his injury as you said a collapsed long it sounds horrible the max or the sorry the minimum time was going to be weeks that ended up being just under three weeks for him to come back they go eight and three without him jalen duran grabs the mic before this game talking to the fans we got more games for you detroit without saying like we're going far in the playoffs he was super confident and then cade comes on the floor and i thought he looked really really good i did too right from the get go i mean ryan rollins cut him off one way and he spins from the three point line and gets all the way to the rim he didn't hold up in any way and then i thought and like three minutes in he was a dead stop he was full stop and asar thompson gets a steal and he has to start a sprint and he does that to go get an alley oops he was ready he was ready from the get go he was ready to be physical that collapsed lunk not a problem he's fighting with aj green who's got really big shoulders and really big arms and he had no problem doing that so although he only played was it twenty five twenty six minutes he didn't have to play a ton because they mopped milwaukee in the end he didn't play

in the fourth quarter in fact bickerstaff kept all five starters under thirty minutes

yeah so killed him yeah yeah so it worked out great he had to hustle at times he got out to a gary trent junior at the three point line and blocked him so the hustle was there but it works out perfectly in that he could play literally three games before going into the postseason and already he looks like he's ready to go so this is this is

perfect yeah thirteen points ten assists six of eleven from the field hit one three pulled down five boards and you already noted it and that was my first takeaway every single or nearly every single one of his shots was in the lane so he was not like shying away from any sort of contact or physicality you know you come back from a collapsed lung like you said you like think is he going to hang out on the perimeter settle for the jump shot not at all so that was a great sign now he can reach sixty four games played if he plays in these final two games for the pistons after playing in that one and then i guess there's going to be some more arbitration or more pleading to the league or whoever like hey can he still make all nba teams like we're doing it maybe with luka and we're going to do it possibly here with cade too i know

yeah that arbitrator that has been was part of the cba that they go to the store a third party that's still going to be involved even though he came back because because initially it was okay if his season ends because of a season ending injury then there could be this situation if that ending injury causes him to miss sixty five games right but now it's he back came back i don't know i heard

that i think they should that he should be if he gets to sixty four he's super close well he's super close to to this vague line yeah why wouldn't he be one of the best six best guards it's about the all nba yeah that's what we're it's not about the mvp he's not winning

i think i don't think it'll have any impact on that okay well it's just the accolade right beast do also returned from grade one left calf strain i thought he looked okay now he only played ten minutes off the bench but he finished three for three he scored on a post up on gary trent junior one that they had to work for i mean he was around the paint trying to box out or obviously post up gary trent junior they finally got it inside to him he scored then he blew by a defender on the baseline for a nice pretty reverse from beef stew and then he scored once in transition off an assist from kate cunningham who again like i said had ten so fully healthy really pistons team here perfect timing as they get ready for whoever they're going to play in the one eight matchup yeah

it is so cool for them to be able to deal with cade going out here comes dennis jenkins and others to help out isaiah stewart out here comes tolu smith who signs a guaranteed deal now because he played so well it is miraculous how deep they are and how deep those guys have produced and that's what we've always wondered who is that number two three four five guy and they got all those guys to produce without kate without stuart so we shall see in the postseason but yeah they are feeling really well and will easily be the favorite in the first series and i imagine when they win i gotta say when they win because you know they're gonna be a good team we'll get to orlando winning four straight look they are feeling better or whether it's the raptors or whether it's the heat hornets obviously it's not easy but after that i think they'd be the favorite in the second series too which is not going to be easy we'll get to who they could be playing soon yeah yeah it could

be the cleveland cavaliers let's move to that game mitchell scored thirty plus evan mobley twenty two points nineteen rebounds career high for mobley cavs beat the hawks one hundred twenty two one hundred sixteen jonathan mitchell managed to hit four buzzer beaters in this that was incredible one at the end of the first quarter one at the end of the second quarter and then two you know throw it in air quotes buzzer beaters at the end of a shot clock in the third quarter one early in the quarter one late in the quarter but obviously has the touch there when the clock is winding down so they get this win they can finish no lower than fourth place in the eastern conference the cavaliers they're just a half game back from the knicks for the third seed so the cavs need the knicks to lose twice while they win out so probably unlikely i think the cavs are going to be in the fourth slot and the hawks they no longer control their destiny for the fifth seed it's in toronto's hands now believe it or not but one more win clinches no worse than number six spot for atlanta and they play the cavs again on friday night and then miami on sunday so i say all that it's looking like cavs are going to have home court advantage i think they're in a four five matchup and hawks are probably going to be the sixth seed i guess they could still get to five but your thoughts on this game

i thought the hawks to be able to play for forty eight minutes when the cavs got their bigs involved immediately which is what the cavs have to do to get mobley and allen involved immediately mobley setting picks right away that first pick that he set and then getting the ball way up top and then setting up jared allen with the pass and then setting up a hardened three ball and then having that awesome dunk i mean he tried to decapitate dyson daniels too that was could have been a decapitated dyson daniels give me a triple d yeah that was so cool nice pass for max truce by back but all that to be said the hawks still battled and to see donovan mitchell which come through at the end of possessions and of quarters that's the definition of donovan mitchell in the playoffs that's what he is and he just needs harden and allen and mobley to get him there and that's why i think when he looked up at the scoreboard after the game he said whoa mobley had nineteen boards that is exactly what i need he didn't say that but he said that's what we need we need his aggression you know he doesn't necessarily care about the numbers but he needs that aggression and i think kenny atkinson was smart getting those guys involved mobley especially getting involved setting picks and the big man game him to mobley him to allen excuse me right away got them going that being said you know the hawks to be able to hang in cleveland it's felt like a playoff environment like you you lined up this could be a playoff series for them to be able to hang after that cavs really good start every single possession jalen johnson i thought was really good he's just so good at picking his spots and not having to go through him all the time nikhil alexander walker same thing could be the best contract in the nba just doing that he playing so well we saw some nice jonathan kaminga moves it felt like this was a win to me for the atlanta hawks because it felt like a playoff series and it felt like the cavs are not going to destroy them if it ends up

being four or five i think the hawks are going to be a fun first round matchup for whoever they play be it the cavs or the knicks they're probably playing one of those two teams i think odds are they're losing either of those series but i think it's going to be competitive series and because i really see like teams especially those two teams kaz and knicks being able maybe to exploit atl's weakness which i think is size still and of course experience a lot of these guys sort of leaders for the first time in a playoff series where those other two teams have a lot more experience but i think they'll be fun i think it'll be fun matchups if they play one of them kaminga got a dunk that cut the lead to like two like you said it like the cavs went on a massive run in the third quarter it looked like okay this one's over and then here comes the hawks their huge run in the fourth quarter they cut the game to two and then sam merrill missed a three and then i think it was nikhil alexander walker he lost the possession like he lost the ball jared allen got credit for the steal in the lane there then it was sort of like cavs hitting free throws at the end but i thought coach snyder did one thing that was a little perplexing you know dyson daniels kaminga mo gay they really brought atlanta back in this game when that huge run in the fourth quarter and then snyder took out kaminga and mogay with like four minutes to go four and a half minutes to go the kaminga poll made sense because jalen johnson was coming in like that's your star guy and then kaminga did return not long after too i think he should have stuck with mogay though on this one instead of a kongwu and i mean it's always we get into this like the coach's like decision it's like on one hand like do you just run with the guys that got you back in the game let's see if they can finish it or dan you got us back in the game now we go back to our starters jalen johnson i get i think i would have stuck with mogay and it's not like he was filling up the like the box score and scoring a ton but his energy and his hustle and some of those plays that were leading to fast breaks i thought were instrumental in the comeback so i think if he could get that one back he maybe sticks with mo

there i would have yeah i hear what you're saying for this particular game you want to win with the guy who got you there the guy who's playing better but i think he's trying to show aneka kongwu you're our starting center going into your first playoffs as a starting center so i think it's just getting his legs under him the same for nikhil alexander walker which is who will be watching he's been in playoffs with minnesota but as the guy as your lead guard this is his first time so there's going to be some bumps and i thought what the cavs advantage is against this atlanta team you said the size is possible and just the fact that they utilize it they win at it and so in yeka kong who paid for that and so i think that's what kenny was

doing he was like a minus thirty three last night in that game of kong and like he scored i mean like you know look at the rest of the box where you're like okay it's fine but like minus thirty three where mo was more of a positive player another note from the hawks though zachary ricache spent his twenty first birthday attached to the atlanta bench he got his first dnp coaches decision first healthy scratch of his career you know is he out of the lineup here for potential postseason matchups with quinn snyder sort of more going with kispert instead of recessing it's not great this guy did start what the first two thirds of the season and then he was removed they had a brutal loss to the heat they got waxed snyder took him out they went with cj mccollum the vet there and then they've gone eighteen and four since they've looked better obviously over this stretch with reese sashay being pulled from the starting lineup and now not even getting a play not even playing in this game yeah i think

and kamingo is great at you mentioned sam merrill earlier there was the possession where he just went directly at sam merrill and sam merrill tr chest him as much as possible but kaminga was bigger and stronger and played that old kaminga role that the warriors hated oh this guy's going to take a mid range shot but he he pushed sam merrill as much as he could underneath the bucket to score so he was playing his best so that hurts rich ashe has not had long stretches of great play in his career period so when he's going to be out there in the playoffs it's going to be catch and shoot it's going to be some slashes but kamingo played him and is outplaying him in general that's could be could change but also the size thing here with the cleveland cavaliers so yeah it's it's a matchups thing but good for snyder to go with who he needs to go with yeah

this fire totally yeah and there was another time later when steph curry went to the free throw line as well but that was just because of a loose ball foul when dylan caldwell was fighting for a rebound he went to the floor so it made it seem like they did it a couple times but they only did it once with three plus minutes when doug christie screwed up he really did yeah and so steph curry goes to the free throw line and he hits one free throw and that's it in a close game when it felt like a warriors home game in sacramento where the sacramento kings are playing their best ball of the season they started this season the first half twelve and forty four before the all star break when they're playing zach levine and derozan and westbrook and schroeder and demonta sabonis their actual team but since they're nine and fifteen so they're way better now playing their young guys they're definitely not tanking i think they're playing their best ball with nick clifford a little daquan plowed in way more maxime reynaud those guys along with some derozan and westbrook sprinkled in to lead these guys they're just playing more and doug christie in that time was drawing up a play because he wanted to coach he's saying let's go make this happen so i can do some coaching right and might be my last couple games yeah i don't i think they're definitely playing way better instead of that iso ball they played earlier in the season he drew up a play and so after the steph curry one for two from the free throw line yeah excuse me i know seth it's cool it's great that seth and steph are playing together for the first time here these last couple games that's pretty cool

list all right number one this may be a little biased i can be influenced so there's some recency bias when it comes to the san antonio spurs because we just went and watched them play in austin texas where spurs fans if they were going to be there either had to be from austin or they had to come from three hours away from san antonio and it felt like a college game and it just felt like they're all here to support this team because that's who they are and beyond that you know they've got these hardcore fans there's a fan section called the jackals that bring the constant chants the songs that are ready to be sung at all times they know their songs they know their chants and you could just feel it in the arena while we were there to watch a game where the san antonio spurs destroyed the phoenix suns i mean they really mopped them but again it felt like a college atmosphere in a city where the spurs are again a few hours away from san antonio they were chanting outside the arena hours before the game as we watched the jackals as they're called come through you had people dressed like you know jackals in their jackal masks you had people dressed like an alien you had people with the flow and hair dyed it just felt hardcore again hours before the game so it was fun to watch and it feels like these spurs like that's who the the san antonio spurs are the premier team in san antonio in terms
