Good morning sweet world and welcome to the no Dunks podcast presented by FanDuel. It's Thursday, May 14, 2026. I'm Je Skeets here in the classic factory and alongside me as always, Tas Melas.
Tas Melas
Podcast listeners, stream teamers. This one's for you.
Je Skeets
Next to him, it's my top shot, hot boy, Trey Kirby Ayo. Hey, yo. And over yonder, making the magic happen, super producer jd.
Tas Melas
Hello.
Je Skeets
There he is. Here we are. JD I just noticed our light is not on the no dunk sign. Looks like it's been bumped and hit. So dark up front.
Tas Melas
It was Hazel attacking Bob.
Je Skeets
Yeah, the dog did it. Blame it on the dog, no doubt. Hello to everybody on YouTube. Apologies for starting a little later than normal. Bad trap traffic out there.
Tas Melas
Hey, what's going on? That's all my fault. Construction.
Je Skeets
Construction up in your neck of the woods.
Tas Melas
Yeah, but I didn't know that they started at the time they were gonna start because I'm always late. I always know when I'm gonna leave and how long it's gonna take. But then it must have literally started as I walked out the door.
Je Skeets
Maybe you're always late because you're too busy looking at construction patterns.
Tas Melas
It's a very good point. I don't know how to be early. Thanks for everyone for being here.
Je Skeets
Hit the like button. Subscribe Podcast listeners, you're good. Five star ratings and reviews. This is just right on time for you. On today's no Dunks though, we're going to talk about the 76ers firing Daryl Morey as president. NBA referees, they're calling more fouls in the playoffs. It's up 11% to the regular season. Pistons fans, I'm sure. Like, are they. And Max Strusk, his eyes are so pretty. He's got Charles Barkley feeling a particular way. That was awesome. Amazing. Yeah. That's like the best inside moment of the playoffs so far.
TK
Maybe of the season.
Tas Melas
Maybe it's up there.
Je Skeets
Yeah. But we'll get to Streuss a little bit later. And those beautiful eyes. We start with that game that Struse was involved in. And he was awesome on the court too. But James Harden scored a playoff best 30 points to help the Cavaliers come back from a nine point deficit late in regulation to beat the Pistons. 117. 113 in overtime last night, Cleveland takes the 32 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinals series. Zilla wrote in his newsletter this morning. I'll start with this. You can't really call that a good game. An exciting game. Yeah, a tense game. Yes. And yes, but I think Ziller's right. TK Good. Maybe not a little sloppy at times, but holy crap, was it tense. And I think, look, the Pistons blew this too.
TK
Yeah, of course they did. They were up three with like or they were up nine with three minutes left and just didn't score. Missed their last five shots. Also threw in a 24 second violation just for fun. They had four 24 second violations in the fourth quarter. It felt like this game was whoever could stop turning the ball over for the longest amount of time was going to win because both teams are doing okay in half court setups. But all the turnovers for the Cavs in the first half let the Pistons build a big lead. Then the Cavs finally get control of the ball in the third quarter, they come back, get in the game as well and just went back and forth. Turnover, turnover, turnover. Whoever's turning the ball over the most ends up losing. But yeah, this is just another big time performance in the playoffs from James Harden. What everybody's expecting, what everybody's talking about. I'm sure this is leading all of the talk shows today, right. You know. Cause I know when he had those two bad games, they were all over him. But he's had three great games. Kind of carried the Cavs in this one.
Je Skeets
Yeah. But then also had an absolutely abysmal fourth quarter. Did he Those perplexing or perfect I guess encapsulating James Harden game. You're right, he carried them for stretches. Has been awesome here in series. But a brutal fourth quarter. But then big plays made in overtime, you know, rebounds and offensive rebounds and stuff like that. So yeah, he was six turnovers.
TK
But like I said, when he had four turnovers, you don't care if he's doing other stuff. And he was doing other stuff most often getting to the free throw line. Went 11 for 14 and did miss a couple of them in clutch situations. But then also got his own offensive rebound. He was playing on the defensive end, getting steals, getting blocks in overtime. He was kind of a two way player I thought last night for the Cavs and he was really the difference on a night when Donovan Mitchell was struggling up until overtime. Hit three big shots in overt a layup. Then that three pointer than that beautiful steal from Nax Strews turns into another layup for Donovan Mitchell. Just enough shot making from him and a carry job by Harden I thought to get over the line. And yeah, the Pistons, they're going to really regret this one because we've seen the Cavs not be able to respond to a run like this in the playoffs before this playoffs, certainly last playoffs. But they're crediting their new addition James Harden for the even keel demeanor that they show in situations like this. It doesn't matter if we're up 20 or down 20, Kenny Atkinson said. He plays the exact same way and that is absolutely true. He's throwing the ball to the other team. He looks completely unfazed. If he's hitting tough shots, he also looks completely unfazed. So big time win for the Cavs and definitely regrets for the Pistons.
Tas Melas
Up nine, three minutes left. I thought there was incredible place by both James Harden and Donovan Mitchell's hands. Those were some heavenly hands. Hands of heaven those last three minutes. There's three big plays that somehow made up that nine point deficit. It started with Harden going in getting blocked and Dennis Jenkins blocked it somehow right to James Harden. Made a perfect catch. He caught it immediately off the block, gave it to Donovan Mitchell in the corner who hit his first shot of the second half and only shot of the second half on that one. So now it's seven point game. Next play. Donovan Mitchell has a fast break, it's a one on three and somehow the ball Sars Thompson smacks it so hard out of his hands, hits off the ground and Mitchell with a great catch immediately is able to turn around and give it to Evan Mobley who's trailing and somehow they don't go and get Evan Mobley. No, unfortunately Cade was kind of peering elsewhere. Mobley dunk. Now it's a five point lead. Next play. That was just a nice play. Evan Mobley had a 3. No hands of heaven there. Just a nice play to make it two point game. And then the one that gave them the tie, the one that really sealed it was awesome. I mean Harden missed his shot going in. It was a floater type shot, went right to him. Nice catch. You don't see James Harden catch it with one hand and pass it at the same time in the air. You don't see that to Donovan Mitchell in the corner who had a Sar Thompson coming out to him. So he was ready to shoot it. He was in the air and somehow he threw it to Max Stru. Did he this foot hit the floor before he passed it? Maybe. It's hard to tell. It did look weird. So those two plays to get it to Max Schuse who got it to Evan Mobley who then was called on a very late foul by Tony Brothers to send him to the line to tie the game. That Was all it. That was nine straight points again. I thought Mitchell and James Harden's hands saved their season right there and killed the Piston season right there. I know I'm. I'm assuming here, I'm projecting that the Cavs win this series now after a loss like that to the Pistons, where they're up late, but it sure feels like both ways. If the Cavs don't seal this one, maybe you got to blow it up. But now it sure looks like they're going to the conference finals again because those wild plays, those are wild plays in the last three minutes. While on the other side, as you said, trailer scoreless. The. The Pistons did not score those last three minutes. It was a Cunningham miss jumper. Paul Reed blocked instead of firing to Harris in the corner. Harris then misses a three. Should he have been more in the corner? Maybe for Dan Jenkins pass. And then Cunningham misses Harris beautiful offensive rebound. Could have just scored, but, you know, he threw it to Caris Lavert, who missed. Bad. Bad three minutes all around. Terrible three minutes. And then Donovan Mitchell came alive. The la. The second half was James Harden. It's my offense. I'm just doing it at all. And Mitchell just hanging in the corner. So it sure looked like this is exploding. And after the game, Harden said, well, listen, he was tired after kicking ass in game four and what he had to do in the second half. But still the offense looked bad. That was after that. Again, they only had two buckets until those last three minutes. The Cavs were literally looking like they gave this game away two buckets in the fourth quarter.
Je Skeets
The Pistons were in control for a majority of this game. Absolutely.
Tas Melas
Yeah. Yeah.
Je Skeets
And then. Yeah, you went through those two loose balls, let's call them that. Where Mitchell and Harden both came up with them. I mean, if the Pistons grab one of those, they maybe have enough to pull this out. But I'm glad you brought up that one foul, too. Like, let's not overlook that Tobias Harris foul on Mobley. That was the one that tied the game where he went to the free throw line because that was after all the madness there. And I think it was like, you know, I think it was the 15 year vet Tobias Harris a little tired on that play, obviously near the end of the game. And he just did. He tried to do the old reach around, sort of try and poke it out behind Mobley.
Tas Melas
It was.
Je Skeets
It was lazy. And he hit him and the foul was called there and that got him to the line.
Tas Melas
Brothers. Brothers. Took a long time to call that. I watched him Multiple times to see how long it took because he didn't whistle it. As soon as Tobias Harris did go around Evan Mobley's arm, he waited. He waited. Okay, I'm blowing the whistle. I don't know, it's hard. It was hard to tell if he hit him or not, but still, it was a weird late call.
Je Skeets
But Mobley had to step to the line and knock him down. And he did.
Tas Melas
Yes.
Je Skeets
The guy's not like I was going to say, he's not an elite free throw shooter. So huge shots after he hit the three. So they made all the little plays down the stretch. The one call that Tony Brothers didn't make. Let's address now. Wild moment, final seconds of the fourth quarter. Asar Thompson sort of strip blocked Donovan Mitchell there sort of from behind. Then he's chasing after the loose ball. There appears to be contact from Jared Allen. Their feet get tied up and I thought in real time. Oh, yeah, officials, they love this call. They love a tripping call. Inadvertent or not. They're like, yeah, they love it. They'll call it. And they didn't. And obviously Pistons fans, Trey think a sar Thompson, not a great free throw shooter either, should be at the free throw line on the other end with a chance to win this game by just trying to hit one. What was your reaction to it? Were you happy that they sort of let them figure it out in overtime and didn't call that particular tripping there on Alan?
TK
I do think it could have been a foul and I think if this is a game in March, it probably is. But this is the playoffs. I saw Pistons fans holding up signs that said hard fouls only and they want this one.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
TK
So I saw post game Tony Brothers said basically that the contact occurred when neither player had possession of the ball. I think that's true. It looked like Thompson was going to get to the ball. I don't think he had it quite yet when Alan runs into him. I thought it could have probably also been a foul on Donovan Mitchell on the Cavs last shot or on the Pistons last shot when Caris Laverts taking that fall away jumper. But he was like super off balance so they didn't give him the call there. These. It's the. Honestly, it's the playoffs. That's kind of what I thought. I was like, yeah, that could be a foul. If you don't want a tough physical game.
Tas Melas
Yeah. I say put one second on the clock, give a start Thompson the ball right there and see if he can hit A three quarter shot because I don't want it to end in free throws. I don't. It's hard to. It's hard to say that that play 70ft away from the basket, they haven't scored in three minutes. And to just end it on the free throw line, I would find that hard to do. It is crazy to look at a star Thompson's eyes as he's getting hit by Jared Allen's feet. He looks like he's looking at the clock, like he thinks he's going to retrieve the ball and not be tripped. Like the ball's sort of loose, you know, as Tony Brothers said. Did he have the ball? Not really. I think he's looking at the clock. He's looking up at the clock at the opposite end to be ready to fire that thing. But I don't. I don't. Or.
Je Skeets
Or he's thinking, let me see if there's time left on the clock. Cause I think I'm going to the free throw line here. Cause I got tripped.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Je Skeets
Could have been his reaction, too.
Tas Melas
Yeah, it seemed. Seemed like it was an early look at the clock. He was already ready. Cause he was going either way. I don't do it.
Je Skeets
Yeah. He's not hitting the half court shot. And there's not. I'm with you. There's not enough time for him to grab it even. And there was somebody streaking ahead to find said player to then obviously hit a lay. Like there was just no time left there. So, yeah, I mean, they blew like, that sucks for Pistons fans. I'm with you, T.K. that's usually called. That was my point. Even Breen reacted like, oh, he got tripped there, did he not? Was there. They were like. Was there enough time on the clock, like, for them to call the foul to put him to the line? But man, you had so many chances to win this game out of the Pistons like this. They should be up 3, 2 like this.
TK
They should have won this game.
Je Skeets
I'm with you now. It's a huge uphill battle to climb here to obviously go into Cleveland where they've been, win that one. Then you got to do it again at game seven. They did it against the Magic in the first round. Somebody's got to help Cade, of course. Like, he ran out of gas here. As this game went on, they started doubling them. It's. It's like, all right, Dennis Jenkins or Tobias Harris try and beat us in the middle of this. You know, playing four on three after we double the ball out of Cade's hands. We we as the Cavs feel comfortable you're not going to do that. And they didn't. But man did they have their chances so many times where I thought, oh my God, Pistons are looking good here. Like they're going to have two chances to obviously get it past them in this series and now they got to win two in a row.
TK
I thought that possession with like 45 seconds or whatever by the Pistons was just so bad. They flatten things out. They give Kate a chance to create and he takes a contested mid range jumper with like 16 seconds left on the shot clock. Like at least run the clock down, get a better look. And then they do get the offensive rebound and it finds its way to Karras Levert for his tough shot as well. But yeah, maybe Cade was tired, but I give a lot of credit to Max Stru for that because Max Stru is all over him, hounding him defensively. He's also given him three point shooting last night. But I think the thing that's very underrated about what he does is that Cade is guarding Max Struse and he's got to chase this guy all over the place. Max Struus is doing enough offensively that it's taken it out of Cade's legs since he's got to carry so much on the offensive end as well. You see so many offensive rebounds from Strus. You see Cade losing contact with this guy. He's the guy who is supposed to be guarding Max Struse. He thinks he's going to get a chance to rest and he never gets a chance to rest. Which then makes it tough because other than Paul Reed, nobody wanted the ball in the fourth quarter. I mean, Janice Dankin, Danis Jenkins was doing okay. It was doing all right. But that's a big spot for a guy who's really having his first year in the NBA. And when it came down to it, he couldn't make the shots he needed to make. Same with Tobias Harris. He just has had two bad second halves in these last two games for the Pistons.

It's nice to give Max Truce yet another Glue Guy game Salute because it happened earlier this series. And then that steal in the backcourt in this game. What a huge play that was. Yeah. Monstrous play after those big ones where you know he stole it from Kate earlier this series. That guy was was really really big. Just period. It just it. It's still mind boggling that after the Cavs Needed a huge third quarter to come back in this game. They won the third quarter 32 20. That the Pistons just couldn't seal it with one little tiny thing in those last three minutes. Just something.
TK
One basket and they win.
Tas Melas
Yeah, probably one friggin basket. But they needed. Yeah, Danish Jackets or Paul Reed. Those two guys were on the floor doing big things. They were the two guys out there and. And that speaks to what we said all season long. Who's going to be that second guy to come through for the Pistons and to have a game where Danish Jenkins plays 40 plus minutes after being a two way guy early this season and almost get them there after he had, you know, bad first opening round to start against the Magic. But then came along and that was surprising that to see that they couldn't do it. You know, Jalen Duran has a better game. They probably win this. Oh my God.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Let's talk another one. Another one.
Je Skeets
Jalen Duran. I mean somehow getting worse and worse here, not better and better. Yeah. Nine, five and four for Jalen Duran in 25 minutes. Paul Reed is then asked. He didn't play the entire first three quarters. Bickerstaff goes to him. He plays the entire fourth and overtime. And Reed at least gave them some energy. 10, 8 and 1. Had a couple blocks as well. Beef stew. You know, you don't see him as the game goes on, but he gave them some life early in the game. He hit two threes for crying out loud. But the jail enduring of it all, I mean if this guy is just a little bit better and equaling either Mobley, like let's be honest here. Duran and Mobley started this series pretty poorly. Both of them. We were like either these guys going to step up here, these sort of all NBA type guys, all star guys. Mobley has as the series has gone on. He was awesome in this game. 19 points, 8 boards, 8 assists, 3 blocks. Had the huge dunk in the 4th quarter, the huge 3 hit the free throws. Defensively awesome. But Duran hasn't TK. He hasn't joined Mobley in getting better. In fact has gotten worse. Confidence is completely shook and. And to the point where Bickerstaff is not. He's barely even trusting him and you can't even blame him. And you wonder is there a drastic move in game six on the road?
TK
You mean don't play him period.
Je Skeets
I mean bring him off the bench. Maybe try anything maybe. Or don't play him. I don't know. He's not giving you anything.
TK
He's not Doing anything. He's not giving you anything. Like, Jared Allen wasn't having a good series either. He didn't have a good first round. He was great in Game 7 against the Raptors, but he was struggling through the first two games. Duran's been like, at best the fourth best big man in this series. You'd maybe put Isaiah Stewart after, ahead of him as well. I don't know. I don't know if they can completely set him down, but it's like you need to get Paul Reed more minutes, if only because when there's a double team on Cade Cunningham, which there are a lot, Paul Reid's pretty good at catching the ball 17ft out and taking a weird runner or getting to a left hand and scooping it off the thing. He's also at least giving you something on the glass, you know, like that's the other thing with Durin. I'm like, that's what I mean. It's not that he's just not scoring. He's not doing anything. Yeah, he has no confidence on the offensive end and it's filtering into all the other areas of the floor as well.
Tas Melas
Yeah, Mobley has blocked him seven times coming into this game. And there was, there's literally two plays where Mobley scored on him, then Jaylah Dern scored on him the, the next play. So that looked like a big guy matcher. Yeah, but that didn't happen. I mean, Jalen Duran, all season long, he's good for one play to put it on the floor and make magic happen. But it's not anything beyond that. Evan Mobley was used in short roles this game. You set the pick, my man, and you get the ball up at the three point line. And he was so good.
Je Skeets
It was him and Harden for sure.
Tas Melas
Yeah. Eight assists, three of them to Jared Allen down in the dunker spot or even when they started overtime. Mobley got in the same position, but he shot instead. And Jaren Allen was able to retrieve it and put it in to start the overtime for the Cleveland Cavaliers. That's where Evan Mobley needs to be used. He just needs to be involved like a Carl Anthony Towns. He needs to touch the ball earlier. I've said that 6 billion times this year and I think it's, it's happened in this particular game. That's what it was. I mean, eight big assists and yeah, overall, you know, you don't think, well, Evan Moly was destroyed them scoring wise. He didn't have to do that. He doesn't have to do that. He Just has to be way more involved. But the defense is always there. He's always blocking. Jalen Dern. And then the offense package came through today.
Je Skeets
So. Yeah. How do you feel about the Pistons chances to get this back to Detroit for a game seven over the weekend? Obviously Game six on Friday night.
TK
I mean, it's honestly a coin flip for me. Like, I don't think the Cavs have. I think the Cavs have been better for the majority of this, these five games. They've definitely been the better team the last three games, but even from quarter to quarter, they're so up and down that I don't really have a lot of confidence that they can string together a perfect 48 minutes. The only time we've seen a team play a good 48 minutes was game four, you know, so I think Detroit has a great chance. Maybe Duncan Robinson comes back. That would help. The lack of gravity was very apparent last night. Kevin Herder, thanks for trying, but that's a no for me, dog. Marcus Sasser. At least you got some rebounds, but that's a no for me. Exactly. So I don't know. I think the Pistons can still win. I don't think that the Cavs are undefeated at home so far, but that doesn't mean anything to me, really. They've just had those happen to be the good games for him. So I think Detroit's still alive in this series for sure.
Tas Melas
Yeah. It's funny because I think this thing is over, but it's not because of the way they're playing. I just don't think they're going to react well to the way this game ended. Yeah, going to Cleveland, I think it. If that was their season. And this is the James Harden trade working out and taking Donovan Mitchell to his first conference finals, it feels like, but play wise. Yeah, it is. It is a coin flip.
Je Skeets
I would say it did. Last night was a perfect example where that overtime felt like a formality. It was like, yeah, the Cats are probably winning. They had no right to win this game. Come back, Pistons like, shit the bed. Yeah, they didn't get the call at the end there, but come on. I mean, you had so many chances to win this thing and. And go back to Cleveland. Up three, two. And, you know, still credit to Cleveland for hitting the big plays. Mitchell comes alive, hit some shots, and then they were rolling there in overtime. But, man, I mean, look, I had the Pistons in seven, and when there was like four minutes, three minutes left on the clock in regulation, I was feeling pretty damn good about that prediction. Oh, yeah. All right. This might go. This might go classic. Just. Home team wins every game here and maybe they pull it off and see seven, but little faith now after that one.
Sponsor/Ad Voice
Ooh.
Je Skeets
Especially because, you know, Cade did run out of gas. Whatever. The doubles were coming. He had some sloppy turnovers, which he just needs to clean up. But he had a monster game, too. My God, what do you have? Like 39 points and nine assists, something like that. Did a lot of the heavy lifting. Had the three going. Had that one foot on the line there late there. But I don't know, is he going to be able to do that again on the road? And who's coming along for the ride? You're going to just have to pray that Tobias Harris or Duncan Robinson in returning have one of those games where they hit five or six threes.
Tas Melas
I checked the NBA official, the NBA official page. No report yet. It's too early.
Je Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
It's tomorrow.
Je Skeets
Too early.
Tas Melas
Not yet submitted. Not yet submitted for both games. But Duncan Robinson definitely would have helped big time.
Je Skeets
And look, in this game, it got scary for a second for Cavs fans, I'm sure they were holding their breath when Donovan Mitchell did tweak his ankle there. Now, it appeared, looked like at first, like he stepped on a photographer, but he didn't. I don't think it was more just his ankle took a weird little turn, but obviously played through it. But he wasn't great until the end when he hit some big shots. So, yeah, Game six, Friday night. Let's hear what the people think in the stream team, whether Detroit can do it again. At least get it back to Little Caesar's arena for some game seven fun. Anything else on this one, guys?
Tas Melas
Just, just, just quickly. Jalen Tyson not playing in the second half. Nice move by the cast. He played for two minutes in the first half, got into that thing and then just couldn't.
Je Skeets
God, he was angry.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
TK
Grabbed his ding dong.
Je Skeets
Yeah. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Grabbed his own hog.
Je Skeets
Legler was laughing on the podcast. I don't know if you caught that in the slow mo replay when. When he was getting into it with Tobias Harris.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Je Skeets
And the full grab of the hog. You can hear Legler laugh, but, like, he's not gonna say it on the broadcast, but I'm pretty convinced he saw it.
Tas Melas
Yeah, it is hilarious when a man grabs his own hog ready to fight because it's happened in NBA history.
Je Skeets
He was pissed. They were like, come on, relax, man. Like his own guys. Like, Mitchell is like, what are you doing?
Tas Melas
And those are the Only two minutes he played. Didn't have it for the second half because it seems like he's got a lot of what they need. Could have. I could have watched a little Keon Ellis out there. But anyway, yeah, he is too small in this series. Yeah, it is.
Je Skeets
And Schroeder gives them just enough.
Tas Melas
Oh, Shooter's playing. Schroeder's playing 100. I would be.
Je Skeets
Schroeder's playing. Shooter's coaching.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Je Skeets
Just see him on the sidelines down the stretch. He was like, out near the, like, half court mark on the sidelines. Like, I'm like, where's Kenny Atkinson? It's like, Shooter's taking over your Bill Russell style.
Tas Melas
I got this.
Je Skeets
But he's like. He was calling out something or obviously saw something. He was trying to get to the players, like, the floor. I mean.
TK
Yeah, he probably knows the place.
Je Skeets
Yeah, probably.
Tas Melas
That's where he was last year on that court. Helping them out.
Je Skeets
Yeah, for sure.
TK
They're running. Cade do everything again.
Je Skeets
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Tas Melas
I just. One funny thing. This is like. It was a really quick shot of James Harden looking at the crowd in a. A dead ball situation. End of play. Some foul fans seem to be upset with. He gave a little like a. Put his hand up. Like he's throwing rice at a wedding or putting a garnish or salt on. On the end of a dish. Like, I don't know what he was doing it. One of these. Whoa. I need to know what he's doing. I can't. I couldn't decipher. It's more like fu. Take this kind of thing. I don't know.
Je Skeets
Well, and I guess it's sort of along the same lines. How would you feel if you're a Pistons fan, you've paid good money. You're sitting courtside, you are in overtime. This is a pivotal game. And then Donovan Mitchell, who I'm sure you're yelling at, trying to distract in the corner right in front of you, he finally hits a shot, and then he turns around and he spiderwebs you right to the face. How would you react? Did you see that? The one time just turn around, went boom. One shot, too. Usually does the. You know, the Spider Man. Like, couple shots, but he's like, boom. Just one. Like, I would react. I think you're stuck against your chair, buddy. Shut them up there. Yeah. Oh, man. Tough, tough, tough, tough. Anything else? You already brought up the sign. The no hard files only. Yep.
TK
Pretty funny. Good sign. Mike Tirico just in attendance, sitting courtside wearing A Detroit Tigers hat kind of was white with the navy D as well.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Je Skeets
Eminem. Eminem.
TK
And 50 Cent.
Je Skeets
And 50 Cent.
TK
50 Cent, as Mike Breen said.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
TK
I just like to call him 50. Yes, you do. Yes, you do, Mike.
Je Skeets
That was good.
TK
Tony Brothers apparently is going to run for mayor of Norfolk, Virginia.
Tas Melas
Yeah, that was some information.
TK
Tires assassinated. Just thanks for the info. Campaign starts now. He's running.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
You think Eminem should have came out and busted a song, like, during break in play, like, with three minutes left? I don't know exactly.
TK
He should.
Tas Melas
He's got a bunch of songs going to play. You got to lose yourself, you know, Something, something.
Je Skeets
Mom. Spaghetti all over the pistons there. Yeah, they.
TK
They vomited on their sweaters big time. Unfortunately, one guy who didn't choke, Pigeon Saber. They sent out that as a pigeon.
Je Skeets
Oh, dude.
TK
The first half brought out the mop. Guy popped it in, made the basket. Crowd goes crazy.
Je Skeets
Oh, did it go in?
TK
It went in.
Tas Melas
Oh, I didn't know.
Je Skeets
How tall was that guy?
TK
That was a tall guy.
Je Skeets
Yeah. Yeah, that's what I kept going, like, Jesus Christ.
TK
It's a position on NBA teams now. They're like, we need a guy in case the ball stuck up there. The pigeon guy.
Je Skeets
Pigeon retriever. Yeah, that was Pigeon saver. You know, a lot of pressure after what just happened with. Who was it that couldn't do? I guess it was Andre Drummond. Drummond, yeah. And then cat came to the rescue the other night.
Tas Melas
But.
Je Skeets
So, yeah, there was pressure. Everybody knew it. Here we go.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Je Skeets
Calm, cool, collected. Boom. One pop out and it went in. I didn't realize that. And he sat down, he was like, did you see that? With his Buddy. You're on SportsCenter. You're going to be on. No dunks at the very least. All right. That's all I got. Anything else? We will find out what happens on Friday night. We got two game sixes on Friday night. No basketball on tonight.
TK
None tonight.
Je Skeets
No NBA basketball. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Je Skeets
Fascinating.
Tas Melas
We'll be back tomorrow, though. We got to break down potential Giannis trade.
Je Skeets
Oh, boy.
Tas Melas
Got to.
TK
Got to.
Tas Melas
We're going to be talking about it for the next month. Question mark. How long. How long will it take?
Je Skeets
The question.
Tas Melas
How long will it take?
Je Skeets
Are you going to. Are you going to stay the night here in the Classic Factory just because. Because of traffic? Just because. No, not just because.
Tas Melas
No.
Je Skeets
You want to have a sleepover together? Sure. I'll have a sleep sleepover with you here in the Classic.
Tas Melas
Right here.
Je Skeets
Let's do it. Play video games on the monitors. Sure, yeah, of course.
Tas Melas
That sounds great.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Now I'm gonna go talk to my mayor, not Tony Brothers. But what's going on here?
Je Skeets
Josh Tiven, your mayor. Yeah. With the traffic. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Yeah. Why did they start at that particular time? They should. Should send out notifications. We're starting at this time so, you know, otherwise seemed like clear roads. Boom. Hit. Hit me.
Je Skeets
Damn.
TK
Would you vote for Tony Brothers?
Je Skeets
No. God no. I mean, I'm going to move to Norfolk to and then get a residence and so I can vote against them.
Tas Melas
Why are you so anti Tony?
Je Skeets
I think Tony Brothers one of the worst referees in the league. I think he's horrible.
TK
He was very highly rated by the nbpa.
Je Skeets
I was a little shocked by that, if I'm being honest. Yeah. In the tier rankings, high on the tiers. Tony Brothers is not a Tier 1 referee, in my opinion. But look at the players.
Tas Melas
Obviously, tier one mayor.
Je Skeets
Well, no, probably not.
Tas Melas
I don't know.
TK
Tony's traveling so much. How does he know the local infrastructure?
Je Skeets
Yeah, come on, get out of here.
Tas Melas
It's where he's from. It's where he's born. He likes to talk things through. It feels like when he gets on that mic, seems like a long talker. I think that's what you need from a mayor, just somebody that'll. In an argument. No, no, no. You just end up winning of winning debates because you just over talk the opponent.
Je Skeets
Bill Kennedy would wip ass in a debate.
Tas Melas
Okay.
Je Skeets
Oh, my God. It would.
Tas Melas
He'd wipe his ass.
Je Skeets
It would.
TK
Is that the saying?
Je Skeets
I don't know. I don't know. I don't do public speaking in a good old.
TK
Clean him up after a bad do.
Tas Melas
Wipe his ass, Tony Toddler.
Je Skeets
That would be his nickname. I got Wipe your ass, old man.
Tas Melas
Bill Kennedy would be. Yeah, that's why we debated taking tomorrow. But Bill Kennedy would be his like his big brothers. His big Tony brothers or whatever.
Je Skeets
We gotta take a break at this point. We gotta take a break. When we come back, we'll get into the up down report. This show is brought to you by FanDuel. Right now, new customers can bet $5 and get 150. 50. 50, like 50 cent in bonus bets if your first bet wins. That's right. Turn five bucks into 150 in bonus bets just for getting started. Tas Melas
I shouldn't ask, but our referees on the fanduel.
Je Skeets
I assume the information is there. That's pretty important.
Tas Melas
I mean, it's out there for sure. Yeah, it's out there. Otherwise. Yeah, it's not on FanDuel. The NBA refs announce it.
Je Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
Tas Melas
Every day.
Je Skeets
I am assuming it is there.
TK
I wish there was props for like. How many files is Tony going for tonight? Call 13 files.
Je Skeets
Yeah, I mean, look. Okay, you think Tony Brothers is a good official?
Tas Melas
I think he's a good man. He's a good potential mayor. Very good eyebrows.
Je Skeets
He does.
Tas Melas
In a debate. In a debate, he just starts flexing those eyebrows. Winner. That MVPA survey, I guess you'd call it, that came out with the three tiers of referees. That was interesting.
Je Skeets
Yeah, we can talk about that tomorrow.
Tas Melas
Yeah, that's a good call.
Je Skeets
You know, go through every single ref.
Tas Melas
Yeah. I mean, the surprising ones. Surprising ones. Scott Foster, just in the middle.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Not a bottom of. Not a number three tier guy. That was surprising.
Je Skeets
Oh, you thought. You thought it was a tier 2 eye in the middle.
Tas Melas
Well, as far as players go, because the players are doing the voting, I thought they would put him directly into Tier three.
Je Skeets
I think they had Tyler Ford, though, in Tier three.
TK
He was.
Tas Melas
He was.
Je Skeets
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Where was Goble? Both? Goebbels.
Tas Melas
He was in three, two.
TK
Well, John Goebel, Tier three. Jason Goble, Tier one.
Je Skeets
Nice.
TK
Yeah, Jason. They're both bad. They're both Tier three. That's the thing. There's actually only one tier. All bad.
Je Skeets
Hey, I was happy to see my guy. Josh Tiffin.
TK
Tiv.
Je Skeets
Tier one, baby. Big tiv. I think he was.
TK
Yeah, he was.
Je Skeets
Yeah. I think he's actually pretty solid. Zarbo was Zarbo. He's the goat. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he was good. James Williams was a bit of a shock.
TK
He's a Tier one guy.
Tas Melas
I thought, we're going to do this tomorrow.
Je Skeets
I didn't see where he was. I would.
TK
Not easy. Ed's probably a tier one guy.
Je Skeets
Really?
Tas Melas
Wow.
TK
He is. Yeah.
Je Skeets
Yeah. Good for Ed. Good Fred.
TK
Honest Ed, they call him.
Je Skeets
All right, let's get into the up down report. All right, as promised. Let's get to the Sixers. We're a day late to this, but that's okay. Daryl Morey is out as president of basketball operations with the Philadelphia 76ers, who are opting to keep Nick Nurse as their coach. Bob Myers, hey, remember him? He's the president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment that sort of oversees the Sixers and a bunch of other sports franchises. He's going to lead the search for the new head executive for the 76ers and will oversee the franchise's basketball department in the interim. Up or down? Tass, start with you here, 76ers firing Daryl Morey as president and keeping Nick Nurse as coach. Are you up or down on this?
Tas Melas
I'll say I'm up. I think Daryl Morey is paying the price for Joel Embiid not liking the Jared McCain trade. He said before the trade deadline, hey, don't duck the tax. Don't just trade somebody anyone. Trades somebody for a first round pick and three second round picks which he claimed he was selling high on Jared McCain. And at the time we all said, well that's a good deal for okc. But at the same time it's the owner who's ducking the text. He okayed this. And they don't pay tax very often in Philadelphia, very infrequent. So I think they're paying. That's, that's who he's paying the, the price for. I don't think it's because of everybody on the roster. I think, I think they just want to basically move on from someone been there for six years, made some poor moves to clear or to add depth to the roster over the years, like releases of guys you'd want around beside the Jared McCain, like releasing an Isaiah Joe out there, releasing a Paul Reed out there releasing Julian. Julian Champagne is the big one. But yeah, I just assume he's ducking taxes. He also traded away Eric Gordon for the rights to Justinian Jessup this trade deadline. I just wanted to say Justinian Jessup,
Je Skeets
I know some millions of followers.
Tas Melas
Yeah, I literally thought I had to hold on which Jessup is that. But either way I think he's paying the price for MB being mad, you know, overall drafting pretty well. But I think these money cuts, it's the owners. I, I don't. Daryl Morey wouldn't have traded Jared McCain just to trade Jared McCain like for, you know, what's going to be the 22 pick this coming draft and three second round picks. That's on Harris.
Je Skeets
He's not helped out by Jerick McCain looking great in the playoffs for the defending champs either. When they need when you have zero bench. Yeah. In these, in this postseason run, what do you think? Are you up or down on this?
TK
I guess. I guess I'm up in that it's not surprising that it would happen. I'm with you. He is basically doing the bidding of ownership with regards to trimming tax, and that's the big thing with the McCain trade. But there's really three deals I think, that factor into this. The McCain trade for sure is part of it. Seeing him go from out of the rotation with the Sixers to instantly stepping into the champions rotation and playing well in the playoffs, that doesn't look good. But also he gave Embiid the extension after he'd already suffered numerous injuries. But also, what are you supposed to do? Like, Embiid had played his most games that he had played in the past couple of seasons when he was eligible for an extension. So you got to give it to him. That extension was also like part of bringing in Paul George, which I think is another factor here. George looked really good in the playoffs. He had an okay season. He was at least healthy and playing other than when he got suspended this year. But I think you factor in his contract, the Embiid extension, the Jared McCain trade, and just the general team building approach that Daryl Morey has. It's like we got three big time stars and we'll fill everything else in with veteran minimums. Meanwhile, the league is trending towards you got to have a deep team and you got to have a young team, and the Sixers don't have either of those. And all these guys that they just let walk away are contributing for playoff teams.
Je Skeets
Yeah, yeah. Look, I think. I think most people would agree Daryl More is a good drafter. He's been pretty good. You know, Maxi gets at the 21st pick in 2022. Even Jared McCain obviously dealt him, but got him at the 16th pick in 24. VJ Edge Chrome. That's a high pick. Sure, I get that. But third overall, he looks great, looks like a star. Good selections, but I'm with you, TK that he's like, he gets his stars and then he's like, ah, we'll figure out the rest. And it's this year at least. You did not really figure out the rest. It was pretty weak around the fringes and somebody's got to be the fall guy here. I'm a little surprised.
Tas Melas
And it's old guy. It's old guys that have filled out the fringes too. That's the problem. You know, your Eric Gordon, your Andre Drummonds instead of a Julian Champagne or Paul Reed.
Je Skeets
I was just going to say leaving the coach in place here while firing the general manager. You know, that doesn't happen all the time. It's sort of like you sort of clean house and then allow the new potential basketball president here to make their selection. But I think they're like. I don't know, maybe there's a part of them feels like coach or Nurse is a good coach. They think still. And he's always, unfortunately, haven't had a healthy roster because those three main guys in Maxi Embiid and Paul George are never really healthy at the same time.
TK
So I don't know.
Je Skeets
Maybe that's the thinking there. Not sure.
TK
But yeah, it's weird because it's kind of like it feels like Nick Nurse is getting credit for coming back from 31 to beat the Celtics, and then Daryl Morey is paying the price for getting swept by the Knicks.
Je Skeets
Yeah, a little bit.
TK
Like, how are you going to fire a guy from coming back and beating your rivals? With some good coaching, I thought. And I mean, and also, like catching the perfect lightning in a bottle of. Embiid was healthy for three games in the playoffs and they won all of them.
Je Skeets
Yeah. You're saying, like, is Nurse still there if they lose in five to the Celtics in the first round? Yeah, you know, it's. I don't know. Maybe not. Probably not, actually.
Tas Melas
Yeah, it's a good point. I think Daryl More, he's got to go work for the league office. Just take a break from front offices. Go work for the league.
Je Skeets
He wants to continue to be a GM in the league.
Tas Melas
Does he?
Je Skeets
Yeah. So I think he'll take off a year probably and assess the landscape.
Tas Melas
Sure. But I, you know, he got everybody shooting threes. Did. Did.
TK
Like, it's like Curry is number one with regards to getting everybody shooting threes. And Daryl Morey, for me is number because it's like Curry's like, whoa, we can shoot from that far. That's allowed. And then Daryl Murray's like, yeah, everybody
Je Skeets
should shoot from that far. And obviously then had hardened to spearhead that both in Houston and then getting him to Philadelphia, which started okay, but then that went poorly, too. I mean, I don't want to gloss over the whole harded in Philadelphia debacle too, where Hardin was literally like, don't trust that guy. He's a liar. He was like a survivor. Suddenly harden, spilling the beans on him.
Tas Melas
That was wild. Yeah.
Je Skeets
Wasn't that long ago.
Tas Melas
Yeah. A couple years ago. Yeah. Yeah. He's, he's added a lot to the game while shooting threes. I think he can go to league office and help us out, fix the, the gather, fix the travel, you know, fix all that. I think, I think he can do that work in New York and go to all the Broadway plays he wants. It's right down the road. Do it.
TK
So you're saying because he's the one who like helped discover all the loopholes, he should close them back up?
Tas Melas
No, no, no, no, no, no.
TK
I mean, kind of.
Tas Melas
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Clean it, Clean it up. Fix everything.
TK
Don't worry.
Je Skeets
Just fix everything.
TK
It's like hiring a hacker that like breaks into your security system. You're like, tell us where we went wrong, Daryl. Tell us where we went wrong. He's like, two me threes.
Je Skeets
Wait, wait. Get rid of the three point line. Is this suggestion interesting? Interesting. All right, well, let's hear from you guys out there. Thumbs up or thumbs down on Maury getting canned in Philadelphia and them keeping Nick Nurse. That is part of the equation here and where Bob Myers go. Do you think Bob Myers will take over as the actual president of basketball operations as gm, or do you believe that he'll stay in this maybe cushier job overseeing all these franchises and find his guy? Yeah. Do you have a read on that? Because some people are like, of course this was going to happen as soon as Bob Myers took that role. It was a matter of time for Daryl Mori was gone.
Tas Melas
Yeah. And he probably brings somebody in that does all the day to day operations, but also overseeing him, like more of a ceremonial type of position guy, you know, somebody holds the gm but he makes the decisions. I could definitely see that happening.
TK
Yeah, yeah. Who knows? I originally when they said Bob Myers was going to be taking over the thing, I was like, we're all looking for the guy who did this. And it feels like he would be the guy. But now apparently Neil Olshe is like really taking the reins for the lead of who the next decision maker is going to be. And he's already employed by the 76ers as well. So it's like, oh, okay. So it's a different call coming in from inside the house because I saw like the other ones, other candidates are like Ansi Saleh.
Tas Melas
Oh, yeah. That's weird.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
TK
I mean, he did a great job with the Hawks this year.
Je Skeets
What about.
TK
Why would he move?
Je Skeets
Yeah, yeah. Travis Schlank. He's got ties to Bob Myers. Yeah. This is a relationship league.
TK
It is not.
Je Skeets
That's a name to. To maybe watch here.
Tas Melas
We got a new senior vice president of basketball operations with the Bulls.
TK
Yeah, we do.
Tas Melas
Stephen Mervis.
Je Skeets
Oh, God.
TK
Oh, Stephen Mervis. I thought you were going to tell me about AC Law, what they had putting together. Yeah, they're putting together their front office.
Tas Melas
AC Law.
TK
AC Law. Yeah. Apparently he was instrumental in a bunch of these guys.
Je Skeets
The Thunder drafted AC Law. The fourth.
Tas Melas
The fourth, of course.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
TK
Yeah, they did get the fourth.
Je Skeets
Yes.
TK
We'll see if the third joins on for the Windy City Bulls. But look, if you can hire a guy from the Thunder, you should do it. Some days feel ordinary. Others turn into memories without warning. All right, next one here in the up down report, NBA referees are calling about 11% more personal fouls per game so far in these playoffs than they did during the regular season, a differential that's on pace to be one of the largest in NBA history. And in the league's eyes, this is to be expected. That's what Monty McCutcheon is basically saying. It's like, what's the big deal? It's a different game in the playoffs. But this was of note. The NBA is seeing an increase in foul calls from the regular season to the playoffs for the 66th time in their 80 year history here of tracking this. I guess so. It happens all the time is what they're saying. But this is a bigger jump or percentage than maybe normal. This is a bit of an anomaly anyway. Are you up or down TK on the NBA defending the 11% increase in foul calls? I don't know. Yeah, I don't know.
TK
I don't know how to have a take on this. 11%. Can you feel 11%? It feels like they let things go more in the playoffs, but you're telling me 66 out of the 80 years the NBA has existed, they actually call more foul.
Je Skeets
I know, I know. That is weird.
TK
So I guess I'm sideways on this.
Je Skeets
Okay.
TK
I don't know. I. I don't know. It feels like we've got 11% more complaining in post game press conferences, so maybe it all adds up.
Je Skeets
Okay. The better way to ask this is. And you sort of were alluding to it. Do you think the whistle has been overall okay in the playoffs so far? How they've officiated these games? I know it changes from game to game and officiating crew to officiating crew, but, like, what's your gut saying? You've watched all these games? We've watched literally all these games.
TK
Yeah.
Je Skeets
You think they've been officiated? You know, how would you grade it? I guess overall, I give it enough.
TK
What? Referees are bad.
Je Skeets
They're always bad.
TK
Every referee is bad. And you should be mad at the referees every game. And players and teams and fans and coaches are mad at the referees every game. And they complain afterwards. But they're also. It's also an A plus because who else are you going to hire that's better?
Je Skeets
Yeah. Right.
TK
So I. I don't know. To me, it's like refs happen, you
Tas Melas
know, I think they're good when they make the right calls.
Je Skeets
Come on.
TK
What do you think?
Je Skeets
That's absolutely fine. Absolutely fine. Overall, for sure. Because.
TK
Just as bad as always.
Je Skeets
Well, I mean, I say this like it's the playoffs. We want more contact allowed. And there has been, from my eyes, I. You know, of course, when you get into it and backing up the data, I don't know, maybe it's. Maybe it's actually the opposite is what they're saying. But it, like, it does feel like they let more go and that's good. Like more. More drives, more contact, more bumping, more. Jocelyn does feel like not like the regular season where there's like, whistle here, whistle there. I'm like, what? Let the boys play is what I'm getting at here. So I think overall. But then, yeah, you see the numbers and you're like, well, there's actually more fouls. Fascinating. But maybe that's just because every single play, guys are bashing into each other, going much harder than they do when they're sometimes, you know, lollygagging through the regular season.
Tas Melas
Well, you said it. Of the 80 seasons in NBA history, 66 of them have seen an increase in the postseason. But then after reading that AP report, getting deeper, it says this season is seeing a Differential of higher than 10 in that regard for only the sixth time in the last six years, if you want to get specific about it. But, you know, I love numbers, but I don't really love numbers about foul calls. I just like watching the games. And I would say most of the time I think they've been officiated pretty well. There are going to be bad calls. Of course they're going to be bad calls.
Je Skeets
This is the most difficult game to officiate.
Tas Melas
So there's bad call. There has been mistakes. I don't say. I don't think it's worse than last year. I do think a lot of the flop, sash slash, like selling of calls is. That's the annoying part. As a fan, I would say, and I say selling, that's just the body torquing and trying to sell something that is almost called every single time. If you, if you yank your head back. Most of the time. Most of the time, hey, Chad Holmgren didn't get one when he tried to sell one. Most of the time that's the sell. And I think that's the difficult part to watch as a fan. But otherwise, I think the referees have been pretty good. And that's why I just said when they're good, they're good and most of the time they're good. But, you know, they also make mistakes, which I think is inevitable. I just think it's. It's so difficult.
Je Skeets
McCutcheon said they look at the playoffs like this. Aggression is good, but rough is not. That's sort of like the zoom out sort of referee's opinion here on the playoffs or how they try and call it. But like, okay, again, we've called, we've watched every game, we've talked about every game here on this podcast. How many times have we actually got into, like the officiating had a real impact on said game or what were they doing that game? This one? Maybe last night. Of course, the trip that just came up, we were a little dumbfounded by maybe some of those Wemby blocks that were probably goal tens. And we're like, okay, that was a while ago now. Is there anything else I'm forgetting?
TK
The Thunder and Lakers. The Lakers had a post game press conference, just huddled around the referees yelling at him.
Je Skeets
Yes. Was it Tony Brothers got into it with Chris Finch? Yeah, okay, there's that.
Tas Melas
Yeah, okay. Tony Brothers, late call of Tobias Harris, who never gets mad on Evan Mobley, who went to tie the game at the end of this game. I know, it's just that was One single play.
Je Skeets
That was a foul.
Tas Melas
You think it was a foul?
Je Skeets
I mean, you couldn't like everything.
Tas Melas
You could never get mad, but never gets mad. And he got mad.
Je Skeets
He didn't. Yeah, he didn't need. He shouldn't have reached. It was. He was lazy. He did the classic. I'm tired and he's going around me, so I'm just going to try and poke it.
Tas Melas
So you're saying the refs haven't been that bad? I feel like they haven't been that bad.
TK
No.
Tas Melas
In general, yeah. It's hard to say.
Je Skeets
We've jinxed it now. Watch out now. The stakes get even higher here.
TK
What was the percentage increase last year
Je Skeets
overall from the regular season to. No idea.
Tas Melas
AP didn't come out with that.
Je Skeets
No idea. I guess it was.
TK
Have to defend it.
Je Skeets
I guess the answer is not as high as 11%. So who knows? Somewhere between 5 and 8%. I don't know. I'm guessing.
Tas Melas
But yeah, logically for it to go up 66 of 80 years makes sense. Players do play more physical, definitely. And they're letting a lot of things go. That's what I do like about this playoffs. Everybody's got a hand on everybody. It's not. It's not quite Gary Payton hand as a defender on the offensive player, but there's a lot of that. There's. Everybody's getting tapped, pushed, gently shoved, aggressively shoved. But everything goes. It feels like, which as a basketball fan, I prefer.
Je Skeets
Maybe Mori can fix this. Maybe Mori can come in, fix it all.
Tas Melas
He can fix everything.
TK
He loves fouls.
Je Skeets
We should try at least one game, one series. Let them call their own files. Just give the rest of the day off, see what happens. Could it probably be a gong show, but who cares? Let's see what happens.
TK
Interesting. Who would be the best player in the league if you got to call your own files?
Tas Melas
Luca. I mean he's already really good. Luca would be good.
Je Skeets
But are you approaching that? Like you think this person would just. They won't. They wouldn't care. They would just call a foul every single time you breathed on them. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know.
Tas Melas
I go Luca. I go Luca.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Je Skeets
All right.
TK
He would be. He would be in the mix for.
Tas Melas
For sure.
Je Skeets
Final one. This is a little fun here, guys. Nike is re. Nike is releasing a massive 14 pair Kobe 4 Protro Draft Day Pack on June 26th. Honoring the 30th anniversary of Kobe's legendary 96 NBA Draft Class. The collection features 13 distinct wear away colorways representing the teams that passed on Kobe before his 13th overall selection alongside a 14th. And you see it there, sort of gold Lakers edition. The sneakers will drop as a true blind box release. And that means when you buy this, you have no idea what colorway you're getting until you open the box up or down on the Kobe Bryant draft day pack.
TK
TK I'm down, I think.
Je Skeets
Okay.
TK
I would like to know what shoes I'm getting, if I'm spending however much these are going to be.
Je Skeets
That's fair.
TK
That's the key to me. But I do like the wear away upper on all the white pairs.
Je Skeets
Okay.
TK
So you wear them for a little bit, and they turn green if they're the Celtics pair. But I don't think they should have made these for every single team that passed on Kobe Bryant. I don't think the Sixers regret taking Allen Iverson number one.
Je Skeets
Yeah. So we had the 76ers, the Raptors, the Grizzlies, the Bucks, the Wolves, the Celtics, the Clippers, the Nets, the Mavericks, the Pacers, the Warriors, the Cavs, and the Hornets.
TK
Yep.
Je Skeets
Who traded it? Obviously, it is a little weird, but.
Tas Melas
Yeah, so I did see those photos. So the shoe converts to the color of the team after a while.
TK
Yeah, it's. It probably just has, like, a light white paint on the outside that wears away.
Tas Melas
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw some shading into a green Boston Celtic smudge. It looks all right. Like, to me, this is just suited to strictly Kobe fans and they. And. And shoe fans who will get the blind box, as you said, sent to them. They just want to collect all 13, plus the Kobe yellow.
Je Skeets
Some. Some will.
Tas Melas
Yeah, I think that's. That's who it's dedicated to. So I'm up on it. It's strictly for Kobe fans. It's not. It's not for a Raptor fan who wants a red swoosh.
Je Skeets
Oh, we took Marcus Camby.
Tas Melas
Great trade for Charles Oakley. I will say, the fact that there's a 24 on the back of each one, why not an 8?
Je Skeets
That's true. That was a number.
TK
Yeah.
Tas Melas
I was kind of. Kind of confused, but I guess maybe their whole branding is all 24 now, so can't go back. I don't know.
TK
It's unusual.
Tas Melas
It is unusual.
Je Skeets
I think I'm ultimately down on this, too. Like you were saying, Trey, this blind box thing, this phenomenon. I mean, this is everywhere now. Like, even, like. I mean, you guys have kids. I'm sure you've seen it. There's, like, there's like toys that you now buy and it's like you don't know what you're getting.
Tas Melas
Yep.
Je Skeets
It's like. I mean and it's so smart because they're like said kid wants this but. But then you buy mystery boxes. Oh it's not that one. That means you got to buy another one or whatever or collect them all type thing like hey, but you like
Tas Melas
going for a pack of baseball cards. I don't know what I'm getting. Basketball.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
I don't know what I'm getting. Absolutely.
Je Skeets
But there is a gambling almost element to it. You know what I mean?
Tas Melas
Oh yeah. It's not. It's not positive for the parent, but positive for the child.
Je Skeets
Yeah, but I think you're right. This is just Kobe fans or Yeah, I guess collect them all and so they'll sell 14 pairs of shoes or boxes instead of. Well, even more. What are the odds you're gonna hit every team, you know, once every time? Very low.
TK
Yeah, they gotta have an exchange.
Je Skeets
Yeah, right.
TK
Yeah, I gotta. I already got a pair of.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
TK
Vitali Patampa. Cos who wants to switch me for a Samaki Walker?
Je Skeets
Good balls, man.
TK
This guy. I got basketball reference.
Je Skeets
That's how he had the Slam magazine. Hell yeah.
Tas Melas
Vitali's on the pistol assistance bench, right?
TK
Is he?
Tas Melas
Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
Je Skeets
That's the up down report. Hope you're playing along with your thumbs up or down. Lovely of the night. Simple sponsorship today. Teddy Hart of the Heart Foundation. Not really but his name's Teddy Hart so I assume he's in it. He's part of the YouTube stream team so he came through. He did with the sponsorship.
Tas Melas
Back to back hits from him.
TK
Are you watching Teddy, let us know.
Je Skeets
Yeah Teddy, let us know. I mean I hope you're here. Woah boy. Goes to Max Druce. I'm giving it to Streuss like Kate had a big game, Harden had a big game. But max Druce, man, 20 points off the bench in a pivotal game five win. He shot an efficient six of eight from the field, all of them from deep. Recorded eight rebounds. He had some timely offensive boards. One assist, one steal, one block in 36 turnover free minutes. This guy has played in a lot of playoff games.
TK
He really has.
Je Skeets
It's like a shocking amount. And he got some love from Charles Barkley last night on inside who was just smitten with Max Strus look in his eyes.
Tas Melas
Tell me about it because I actually have not seen.
Je Skeets
Oh, you're cast. You are going to love this. Man, you talk about bonds more than anybody.
Tas Melas
Oh, about the bod and ice.
Je Skeets
You like ice, too. Bring up.
TK
He says, I'm thinking what everybody's thinking. Max Strus is a pretty man.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
TK
I wouldn't want to look him in the eyes.
Je Skeets
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. You get lost in those eyes.
TK
Think of what everybody's.
Je Skeets
I know.
Tas Melas
So he didn't. He didn't talk about his butt?
Je Skeets
No, not really.
Tas Melas
Okay.
Je Skeets
Not really.
Tas Melas
Yeah, because I was more.
Je Skeets
No, they literally asked him, what do you like about him? They're like, is it the hair? Whatever? And then he's. Yeah, he was like. He says his face. That's what he says at one point. And then he gets into the eyes. And of course, of course Shaq and Kenny and even Ernie are like, you know, prodding Chuck and like, come on, let's get more. It's a very, very funny clip.
Tas Melas
That's great. Face. He fears to look into his eyes. That's great.
Je Skeets
Max Wo Boy of the night Charl Darkly will be happy with that selection and hopefully Teddy Hart is as well. All right, that's it for us today. Tas Melas
Exactly. Yeah. And I have been and I'm thankful for the NBA uploading every 15 minutes. Transparency, baby.
Je Skeets
Right, Right. But you'd like to see that in construction road work every 15 minutes, don't you think? Yeah, Very helpful.
TK
Tony Brothers. That's his main platform. You will be updated on construction workers like NBA fans are updated on injury reports.
Tas Melas
Yeah, there's somebody's doing that on the. On the NBA official site. That's their job.
Je Skeets
Yeah. Tony Brothers could fill in those potholes with those eyebrows. Take them off, plop them in there.
Tas Melas
Come on.
TK
I'd love to see Tony Brothers without eyebrows. Somebody just please Photoshop it. No brows. Tony. Come on.
Je Skeets
