Tas Melas
Can you believe it?
Jay E. Skeets
For the 10th time. And Steve Kerr is staying. That's later. That's in is this news. But we got some NBA playoff basketball to break down. Let's start with the Cavaliers now square with the top seated Pistons thanks to the 112103 win in Cleveland. The Cavs used a 22 to oh run in the third quarter. The Cavalanche and Donovan Mitchell scored 39 points in the second half, tying the all time playoff record for points and a half with Eric Sleepy Floyd. I feel like Sleepy Floyd this morning with that late game there between the Thunder and Lakers. But we're talking Cavs tying this up. Tas and do we start there in the third quarter and Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs with that 220 run.
Trey Kirby
We have to because Donovan Mitchell looked like a different guy. First half, didn't have the touch. Only hit one shot in the whole half. He comes out the third quarter. Thought it was a great play by Kenny Atkinson to get him going on a shot he could not miss. He was off the ball. James Harden on the left wing sets up Donovan Mitchell on a nice cut. That's our Thompson. Kind of fell asleep. Donovan Mitchell gets the ball. It's a floater. He has to hit this right. He's too talented not to. He hits it bang, bang, bang. Hits his first three shots. He was feeling so good. Even got mad when the Cavs hit a shot. Right after that. James Harden went to the right wing. Donovan was ready. He was ready to get that ball didn't come to him. Swing, swing. It got to James Harden again, who hit a shot. Donman still arms out waiting. When's that ball coming? He wouldn't talk to Johnny Bryant. Associate head coach, not assistant head coach. When, whenever teams specify that. I always have to note that he would talk to Johnny Bryant said, that's my ball, that's my shot. I guess that's how superstars act when they are feeling good because that dude was feeling it on that 22 overrun. He just wasn't going out at home like that after half. So they felt obviously incredibly good. Well, on the other side, yeah, the Cavs kind of. Or the Pistons, I should say, didn't have an incredible Kate. And the Cavs kept it going until the fourth quarter. Fun game for Donovan Mitchell to look different than Sleepy Floyd looked, I guess. I don't know how Sleepy Floyd looked in his half of play, but he looked obviously incredible. Totally different guy in the second half.
Tas Melas
You got to have some Tired eyes to be nicknamed Sleepy. So he probably was looking pretty snoozy.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he was a figure.
Tas Melas
Donovan Mitchell in the first half. Oh, got him. But I thought he kind of actually got going right at the end of the second quarter. Hit that three from the corner. It's like, okay, that's a little inspiring. Came out, like, you're saying, had the cut, and then went on an 80 run to start the second half. He just really wisened up, I thought on the way he was attacking. He said he was having trouble penetrating in the first half, and the Pistons were doing a really good job of boxes and elbows, walling off the paint so he couldn't get there.
Trey Kirby
I thought he was just missing.
Tas Melas
Well, he missed some shots he should have missed, but he was also doing a pretty good job of drawing, too, and playmaking.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
And then in the second half, Jalen Duran files out, and Donovan Mitchell just has zero concern for Paul Reed as a defender inside. So he said, guess what? Here's 18 floaters on top of your head. Didn't try to get all the way to the rim. Stopped right outside the restricted area, popped it in over the top. That was pretty impressive. And Harden had an awesome first half. This guy was in the lane all night. He was aggressive, looking to score, looking to create. He finished with a double double. 24 points, 11 assists. Cavs went down 02. Harden took over down the stretch in Game 31 of that game, then completely outplayed Cade Cunningham in this game. Heard a lot about his bad first two games. Probably won't hear nearly as much about these two Very clutch performances when his team needed wins, helped put the team on his back. And Harden's a huge part of the reason that this is a 22 series. Going back to Cleveland, you would set or going back to Detroit, you would say that the Cavs have all the momentum, but they haven't won a road playoff game yet. Detroit definitely had all the momentum coming to Cleveland. This could easily be a home team wins every game series.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, totally. Yeah, it's totally. Coin flip right now because how well Detroit played to start this series, unlike what they did in round one, Game five is everything.
Jay E. Skeets
It feels like you're saying it's pivotal.
Trey Kirby
Quite.
Jay E. Skeets
I think it's quite pivotal there later this week. Absolutely. Yeah. Cleveland's gonna have to do this on the road. That's just what we're at. They look awesome at home. Unbeaten at home. These guys play much better. They're superstars, they're support players. You know, you gave Mitchell Love, that was. That was wild. I mean, he had individual defenders on their heels. He was going through contact like you said, Trey, you had floatery. And the jumper. He had the three. When he gets going, he sort of feels unstoppable. Then you're busting out the patented swim move that he does on guys. He was awesome. Harden was great. And Mobley, a guy I have called out here already in these playoffs, said, man, is this guy like a little overrated? Like, when's this guy going to step up? He didn't have a huge scoring game. Well, holy crap, did he do everything else in this game? 17 points, 8 boards, 5 assists, 5 blocks, 3 steals. Guess two steals short of a five by five in a huge, like, sort of must win game. So he was great. The stars, like, backed it up here for Cleveland where, you know, the Pistons. Cade had a rough game. Another one of these weird games when it came to turnovers. Fascinating. Just sort of the sloppy ones. Jalen Duran, brutal. Like, it was a tough decision there, I think for Bickerstaff because, like, on one hand, Jillian Duran is not doing anything. So let's go. B ball Paul. He at least is giving you energy on the offensive end, but, yeah, maybe giving some of it back defensively. But Caris Leverton, B ball Paul, they were keeping them at least in the game there in the third quarter because the Stars for Detroit did not travel to Cleveland, even though it's a short drive, I think from Detroit to Cleveland. So, yeah, this is a weird series, man. It's tough. Like I said that heading into this game, like, I don't know. I don't know which team is going to like show up from quarter to quarter, half to half. So, you know, the only thing we can bank on right now is Cleveland's just got to play much better on the road in Detroit, where they've played pretty good at home.
Trey Kirby
Right. It was just an odd game to see. Carousel Vert's season high on May 11, 24 points and the. The Cade Jalen Duran chemistry there wasn't there in that fourth quarter. What a weird turnover when Jalen Duran just didn't have his head up. And Kate ends up being credited or discredited with the turnover because Jalen Duran ain't ready. They try Isaiah Stewart. He couldn't score. They just needed more scores inside. And Dern's not doing. Isaiah Stewart's not doing it. Yeah, they go to Paul Reed, but Evan Mobley has been dominating Jalen Duran, blocking, blocking his shot. He's literally blocked him now seven times coming into this game directly on Duran. And then we had one, had one more last night. So he's dominating that. Although he's not dominating the offensive and scoring wise, he's doing so many things, as you said, and you're five by five, just two steals away.
Tas Melas
Mobley was awesome. I mean he got to 17 points. That's like his average for the season. It's an average game. But he was on point defensively from the very first quarter. He was just everywhere. And I thought that turnover with Duran where he's rolling down the lane, Cade goes for the jump pass, you know, it looks like he's taking a jumper. That just shows me Duran has zero confidence right now. Three points, one rebound, two turnovers in the second half. He's barely looking to score. He's got no moves. I mean he had one post up where there was nobody around. Looked really nice, but other than that he's trying to body guys up and he's not able to push through Jared Allen right now. I thought Allen played a really good game as well for an under double digit scoring night. Like he was emphatic at the rim. He was rebounding. He looked tougher than Duran. And if Duran doesn't have toughness, what else is he bringing? Because he's not much of a defender right now either. So yeah, if I was JB Bix, I wouldn't hesitate to go to Paul Reed. If Duran's struggling, at least he's going to give you some energy on the offensive end and kind of they need offense. I think the Pistons do.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's just not consistent. Jalen Durant did have one move where he broke down Mobley and he scored on him on the dribble. One move. That's exactly how many he would have per game throughout the season. I'm always waiting for one move where he puts it on the floor and he had that one move but he didn't score a lot. And then you get enough Asar Thompson game where you have to take him off the floor.
Jay E. Skeets
That was maybe the worst game I've seen him play all season.
Trey Kirby
And watching a lot of brain fart after brain fart. Yeah, turning it over.
Jay E. Skeets
He was frustrated with the whistle. He was getting early, but he was completely taken out of this game. Yeah, that was very Badassar Thompson and that's not, that's not going to be a good pairing when he's having a rough game and then Jalen Duran is also having a rough game. It's like these are Two guys that are not shooters by any means. So they're just getting in the way when they're having bad games like that. And to me, like, sorry. Like the Pistons felt like they were attempting to like play basketball in a Trader Joe's aisle. There was no room. There's no room at Trader Joe's. You can't get two people by each other in those aisles. So that's true. They were just always like, just like, just like these passes that were not there. There were these like windows that were like way too small.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
So many times. Credit to the Cavs active hands, all that. But like, there was times where like, what are you doing? Stop trying. Like, take the shot. There's like three or four times, like, somebody should have shot it instead of like, maybe a little too cute with the extra pass that was then deflected and picked off.
Trey Kirby
Max Truce had that dunk that was surprising to everybody. He had a huge dunk. I thought, okay, he's got one of those glue guy steals, right? Cause it was in the back court of Detroit. That's why I had to re watch that play. And it was just a Sar Thompson dropping the ball. He literally just dropped the ball twice.
Tas Melas
He had one with Harden in the first quarter as well. So yeah, 20 turnovers for the Cat or for the Pistons. Four of them for Thompson. Tobias Harris, like, finally cooled off, went 0 for 8 in the second half. Pistons only took 23 three pointers. That is not enough against the team like the Cavs. And they're packing the paint. Cleveland is. They're like, anybody can try and beat us from the outside. And they did a good job finally staying attached to Duncan Robinson. I thought if you're able to take him out of the three point game, you're living with everybody else. Even though Caris LeVert did have a good game. Good to see him wake up and hit some off the dribble shots. But that's not something that's really stressing out the Cavs, I don't think.
Jay E. Skeets
The Pistons attempted 12 free throws to Cleveland's 34. Bickerstaff was asked about this after the game. He said, quote, ever since we came to Cleveland, the whistle has changed. There's no way that one guy on their team talking about Donovan Mitchell shoots more free throws than our team. We're not a settled team. We're not a jump shooting team. We drive the ball and we attack the paint. He had more to say, but I'll stop there. But, yeah, this has been the big change here from the games in Detroit to the games in Cleveland. Detroit attempted 545 free throws in the first two games and that's down here to 34 over these last two. So significant drop off, but the Cat's playing with a lot more energy and force. Of course this is smart. A coach needs to say something like this, hey, what happened to the whistle? Why are we getting this sudden change of whistle?
Tas Melas
But he literally said, yeah, Kenny did this after game two and look how the whistles changed. So I'm basically trying to trick the refs as well, which I thought was awesome. He's being completely honest about it. He's like, yeah, if I say something, you're going to change it because human nature maybe.
Jay E. Skeets
I mean, I'll give JB this. He was trying to stop the Cavalanche. He called two timeouts, like within the first four minutes of that third quarter. He called one like two minutes in when Donovan Mitchell couldn't miss. Then they come back out, they couldn't score still, obviously Cavs couldn't stop scoring another one. He was trying everything to stop that thing, but it just got out of the hand. And then they were playing from behind the whole time as much as Carrison and B Ball Paul sort of kept them just around enough. Uh, and then at the end it got really funny because then like the third string guys came in and suddenly Detroit like went on a little run and Kenny had to get starters back in.
Trey Kirby
Kenny said it was all the Don. I've never heard him call Donna Mitchell Don. He didn't say the Don he was. He said second half performance by Don. Just calls him Don. And yeah, Kenny Atkinson again. That play to get Donovan Mitchell a look where he doesn't have to create just to get him going. That helps. Even though Sar Thompson was bad this game, you can't just line him up against the Sar Thompson and try and do that. When he gets hot you can, but he was just not feeling it until that point.
Jay E. Skeets
I say that was fun because during the halftime show, Maria Taylor was asking all of these incredible scorers in tmac, Vince Carter and Carmelo Anthony, like, hey, put yourself in Donovan Mitchell shoes. Rough first half, big playoff game, you know. Yeah. What's your mindset? Coming out of the locker room for the second half, they were like, you know, basically saying pretty obvious things, but like, you gotta get inside, you gotta get to the line, you just gotta see the ball go through and sort of. It was cool that they implemented it right away. Got him an easy look, just cutting off ball. Great Pass from Harden and yeah, it was like a whatever six foot shot there. A little shoulder for him. Of course, easy. And then he just started snowballing. So they were like, they nailed it. They're like, of course he can have a monster second half. This guy puts up huge numbers in playoff games.
Trey Kirby
But it's still a coin flip in the series, right? Going into game five big time, will we see a good James Arden game? Tbd. We'll see how this whole Cavs team can perform in Detroit.
Jay E. Skeets
Have we even had a big like Cade game in this series yet? No. So I mean, who's to say that's not coming?
Tas Melas
So fourth quarters. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So at home for sure. I thought you got to give a big shout out to Dean Wade. He played an awesome game for zero points. I thought he was all over Cade. Cunningham in this one had five rebounds, were actually important. Every single time there was a ball screen or a dribble handoff, it was Dean Wade and whoever the big was basically double teaming Cade. So that's a lot of arms that he's got to see. Turned into five more turnovers for him. 22 so far on the series. That's not very good. 94ft of pressure I thought was important as well. Wade or strengthen up Cade just making him work the entire game and he just didn't have it enough in this one to pull him out over the top. And good performances by the Cavs. But yeah, you have to imagine Cade will bounce back. Maybe they get another good performance from Duncan Robinson back at home shooting the ball. Maybe Caris Levert stays in a bit of a rhythm. They can be better for sure. But I thought Cleveland handled things pretty well in Cleveland.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh yeah. And like you said, the two numbers are like, you probably got to get more three point attempts up and a big part of that is Duncan Robson. And then. Yeah, you can't. How many times in playoff games this postseason have we talked about a team having 18, 19, 20 turnovers? Just say every time. Yeah, you're not going to win when you have 20 turnovers in these games. Like you're obviously playing strong competition. I have to imagine the record for teams that have put up 20 turnovers in games in this postseason is quite bad. Maybe there's the odd win or two from a team in there, but not many. It's just way too many possessions you're giving up.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
And obviously easier buckets in transition for the most part.
Trey Kirby
You know, the good Golden State warriors could do that, but not many this playoffs. I'M trying to think of one, but I don't know. I don't have the turnover numbers on my head.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Anything else from the Cavs tying this thing up?
Trey Kirby
Well, I think Kenny Atkinson as the Cavs coach, he's the new Mike. Boone Holzer. Mike Boone. Holzer was just the open mouth guy. Like what's happening here? I think Kenny Atkinson is the new guy, the new Mike.
Tas Melas
He's got good face reactions for sure. Do you think his hair is slick back or push back?
Trey Kirby
See, he went from a big change from game three to game four.
Tas Melas
He doesn't change.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Because
Jay E. Skeets
seen him in Detroit, he was a real piece of. But people change. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
He got a haircut before game three. I noticed him. Him, Dean Wade and Sam Merrill all got their haircut before game three. I wondered going into game three, do they have the same barber? Because they ain't that different, those three guys.
Jay E. Skeets
Three for one. Very possible.
Trey Kirby
But I would call that a slick back that he had in game four. Trey, it was more.
Tas Melas
It looked really wet.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
He's using that LA looks gel. I think I also liked this game was funny from the very beginning. Mark Davis apparently was standing in front of the scorers table like practicing his jump balls. Noah Eagle mentions on the broadcast, they're like, don't worry, Mark Davis is warmed up.
Trey Kirby
Oh, man, terrible jump ball throw.
Tas Melas
Horrible.
Jay E. Skeets
Overthought it.
Public/Investment Ad Announcer
Yeah.
Tas Melas
They start laughing at him and retoss it. And it was still a pretty bad toss. The second one. Yeah. Went way more towards Jared Allen. I think that was a hilarious moment.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Noah Eagle saying, I jinxed it. Like broadcasters say when they say a free throw shooter's doing what he jinxed the ref. Jump ball.
Jay E. Skeets
What do you think of Robbie Hummel's telestrator work? This is the second game in a row where he's done some telestrator work. And then they've showed us the czar. Mike Fratello in attendance in Cleveland.
Tas Melas
Wow.
Trey Kirby
Very funny.
Jay E. Skeets
Split screens. They did that in game three and they did it in game four. And I think they're trying to push the nickname. If Fratello was the czar, they're saying Robbie Hummel is the monarch. That's what. That's what it said on the screen we're talking about.
Trey Kirby
Yes.
Jay E. Skeets
And you know what I think? I think it's. He's not bad at it.
Trey Kirby
No, he's good at it.
Jay E. Skeets
Room for improvement for sure.
Tas Melas
But yeah, we don't see enough telestrate work.
Jay E. Skeets
I agree.
Tas Melas
That's A cool piece of technology.
Jay E. Skeets
That's right. That's right.
Trey Kirby
When they showed the. The little, you know, the lower third. Here's this guy's nickname. And here's this guy's nickname. The Tsar and the monarch. It didn't come after Robbie Hummel did something on the telestrator, which was weird to me. That was weird to me, you know?
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
You know, let's tell people what it is, because I. Not all the geeks, the basketball. Not, not. Not. The mainstreamers don't know. We call that guy the Czar. Because, you know, I thought you should. They should have done it afterwards, if I'm going to be critical. But I think Robbie Hummel is good telestrating. Yeah, he's good. He's a good analyst, that's for sure.
Tas Melas
And then I liked him talking about being a scrub in the NBA and how hard it is to score coming off the bench late in these games in garbage time because he was like a star. And he's like. I used to always say to the walk ons, how hard is it to come in and score a basket? It's like the easiest thing in the world. Then I got to the NBA where I'm the guy at the end of the bench, and turns out it's actually really hard to sit for three hours and come in hot.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Sam Merrill proved that. I mean, he had open threes.
Tas Melas
He was getting good, too, as well.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
He was getting good looks, too. And they kept bringing that up on the broadcast, like, wow, this could be. This could have been way worse for Detroit if he's knocking these down.
Trey Kirby
Right, right, right.
Jay E. Skeets
He finished, I think, two for seven. I want to say from deep.
Trey Kirby
From three. Yeah, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
From deep.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Donovan Mitchell hit yet another floater. And Noah Eagle yells out, mitchell palooza. And then it just turned into an old school reference off between these guys. Robbie Hummel says, you bring your green hat and we'll just watch what Donovan Mitchell's doing here. He's putting on a show. Grant Hill says, feels like a concert. To which Eagle says, right now it feels like he's on fire. He has the Cavs streaking in the second half. I was impressed by these deep old school references. At one point, Noah also yelled raindrops on a Donovan Mitchell three pointer. So he has referenced Fletch old school. And along came Paulie during these very playoffs. And I love the lineage because his dad, Ian Eagle, always yells, do not go in there on blocks. And that's an Ace Ventura reference.
Jay E. Skeets
Right.
Tas Melas
These guys are Watching comedies nonstop.
Jay E. Skeets
You think the Eagles are on letterbox, Noah? Yeah, I bet he is.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
No, no, he does.
Tas Melas
IMDb ratings.
Jay E. Skeets
Noah also did say the Streus is loose with the juice. Bill Simmons wasn't a fan. I saw him tweet last night.
Tas Melas
I thought it was Grant that said that because. Oh, I thought that Ian Eagle yelled, streuss.
Jay E. Skeets
Bring in the juice, Cleveland. Okay. Yes.
Tas Melas
They reran the exact same play and Grant went, streuss is loose with the juice.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay. You're right.
Tas Melas
He's got the boost.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Who then.
Jay E. Skeets
Who then made the comparison? Was it Tobias Harris to Bernard King? Was that comparison made?
Tas Melas
Yeah. Yes, he did.
Jay E. Skeets
Is that a great bill?
Trey Kirby
Oh, I didn't. Don't remember that one.
Tas Melas
He definitely.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Somebody's got to do the old turning of the toes.
Trey Kirby
They must have watched the starters.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, maybe. Maybe. You know, speaking. When we're speaking of the broadcaster to Grant Hill, he loves to say, that was impressive. Count how many times he'll say that during a broadcast. He was pretty funny. It's tough not to do that. I do love music. I do love music. That was.
Tas Melas
He's a supportive guy.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes. Yes. Anything else? Anything else from what was an entertaining night of NBA playoff hoops? Yeah. I guess my only other note. I got one more here. I want to applaud the Cleveland Cavaliers fans for being back in their seats at the start of that third quarter. I think it played a part of the cavalanche.
Tas Melas
Wow.
Jay E. Skeets
I had my eye on it. I've had my eye on all these playoff crowds. I keep bringing it up. You know, it's. A lot of people are obviously getting their drinks, getting their food, trying to hit the restrooms, all that. You know, just hanging out, catching up with friends. Oh, maybe they're up in the upper bowl. We'll meet up for a drink, all that. I get it. We've all been there. Slow to get back to your seat.
Trey Kirby
I'm ready to watch it again because it's not very often you get to compliment a fan base because they're back.
Jay E. Skeets
I thought they quite a fair number were back. Nice to hear they're in the lower bowl. Lower bowl, especially, you know, the top bowl, the upper bowl. They're always back. I get that.
Trey Kirby
Being back is the diff. It can be the difference in a series. Yeah, they're. Wow. I'm watching it.
Jay E. Skeets
Right?
Trey Kirby
It's maxed out.
Jay E. Skeets
It's pretty impressive.
Trey Kirby
It is pretty impressive.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
So good stuff. Cavaliers fans. I think you played a part in the cavalanche there and getting done in the Mitchell going.

talk about the Oklahoma City Thunder sweeping the Lakers last night. They held them off 115, 110. It was a competitive game so that was fun. But once again they get another playoff series sweep here. But again LA's most complete, I think four quarter effort in this series. But it still wasn't enough because let's be honest, you sort of have to play a perfect game to beat the Thunder. And I have a couple things in my notes that I think the Lakers sort of just pooched at the end there in the final call it three minutes. There was a three or four minor things that like added up to a Thunder victory because they were making the plays. But it was a close game.
Trey Kirby
OKC not leading in a fourth quarter for the first time this playoffs. So over on James and the Lakers had him. Shea had to come back earlier than he usually does with eight minutes left. But the Lakers went on that 70 run and yeah, they had to be perfect and it was so close. Yeah, there's a couple things you can pick out. This play here, this play there. When it comes down to it, out of the timeout JJ Redick drew up that nice LeBron runner and he missed. If he hits that runner they can win this game. So it was super close. I understand LeBron was mad. Go straight back to the locker room. No need to talk to anybody after this game. Yeah, it sucked. It sucked. But I do say the Lakers that 33 seconds left. The they double Shay and Shay drops it for Isaiah Hartenshein in a short roll. They had three guys on Hartenstein. They could have waited for Homegren or at least had one guy a little closer to homegrown so they didn't have that lob go at him. But we can get be. Yeah, we can parse it all. They had to be perfect. You're right. They just missed a couple shots, man.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, the other ones in my notes. Just under three minutes left. LA is down two. SGA finally miss. Misses his little patented jumper. LeBron grabs the rebound and then he turns it over and it was like a good play by Hartenstein. Got a hand on it, but like, oh, they had it. They got the stop. That was a rough one. 1:30 left. LA still down two. Smart deflected an SGA pass. Lakers get it. Rui hit the floor. Got it to LeBron. Zips it ahead to Austin Reeves. He decides to attack sga. Chet Holmgren sort of hanging back. Nar sort of drives into him and then dumps it off to Jackson Hayes and he botches the layup attempt. You know, maybe there was some contact there, but that was a rough one. And then the other one. You said where they are now. LA up one after Rui, you know, hit the huge four point play. If they get a stop and they score, I mean, they maybe extend the series. But the Lakers blitzed sga, found Hartenstein inside. Nice pass to Chad holmgren. And like LeBron and Reeves swarmed them. And it's like he just sort of like took his time, powered up and then got the dunk. And it's like, oh, man, if they had knocked that out, even, maybe even wrapped him up and put him on
Trey Kirby
the line, Rui was there too. Yeah, watching Hart and Shaw, those.
Jay E. Skeets
Those little, little plays. And again, you got to be perfect to beat this team. And they were close. It was like 98% on the test, but not 100.
Tas Melas
Yeah, and the Thunder were pretty much perfect. And the clutch. They had 11 possessions during clutch time. They scored on eight of them. One of the three stops was the Shay or the LeBron turnover. They got back and scored on right away. One of the stops for the Lakers was a wide open three pointer from the corner from AJ Mitchell that he missed. And you don't expect him to miss when he's been playing as well as he was. And their other stop was a legitimate turnover on Shake Eldris Alexander. So really they got one stop.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Down the final five minutes. And that's impressive for the Thunder to not play a clutch game for a month. And then they finally have one. The crowd's going crazy. You're on the road. Lakers are playing well enough to win and they just scored every single time down. Basically.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, yeah, it's a good point. And AJ Mitchell, awesome game from him. Playoff career high. Now again, 28 points on 12 of 19 shooting forces four steals, three rebounds. Like this guy slots in for an all NBA guy in J Dub. And he might be better offensively than Jalen Williams. That part I think when you take into consideration the defense and all that, it's still J Dub. It's that. But man, offensively maybe at least of course, what we saw from J Dub this year with an injury ravaged season. So pretty incredible for this guy making $3 million a year.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he makes 2.85 million next year. Scored 28 points in this game. Imagine if he averaged 28 points per game next season. Be making 100k per point next season if you want to geek it out. But he had 10 points in the fourth quarter there to help close it out. And yet they have to play him one on one. They don't have a question. You got a double Shay. And so he can take everybody, especially Austin Reeves in this particular matchup. He's going to beat Austin Reeves.
Tas Melas
That's what I would say is you don't have to give up the sweet, the switch every single time. That was pretty simple for SGA and for Mitchell. They did eventually start doubling sga which only opened things up for Mitchell. But it was so easy for OKC to get Canard or Reaves into every single action. Then they would, then they would have either Canard or Reeves up there guarding SGA or Mitchell. And they say, okay, bring up the big guy. And both Shea and Mitchell feel super comfortable against Ayton and Jackson Hayes. So there's two pick points that the Thunder were picking on the entire time. You flashback to the Rocket series, we're like, how are they not exploiting these defenders being out there? They just couldn't do it. Meanwhile, SJ and Mitchell are just like here, I'll just hit 18. Mid Rangers. Yeah, I'm just another one. Another one for you. And then the Lakers turn the ball over 19 times. It's not quite 20.
Jay E. Skeets
No, but it's close.
Tas Melas
Yeah, it was just, it's, you know, this was a close game, but I think it's mostly because OKC shot poorly from 3. Like they were in control of this one and they Looked awesome in the clutch, but yeah, 28 for Mitchell. This guy. Shea said he's been the best player for us during the this playoff series. You know, this was a down series for Shay Gilgis Alexander for sure. But I also heard Dwayne Wade say Chad is the most underrated player in the entire playoffs. And Maybe he is 16 points, nine rebounds last night he averaged 2010 and three stocks for this series. And the Lakers shot 43% when he defended the rim. He dominated inside. This was a we are too big for you kind of series I thought because Hardenstein 33% when he was a rim as well. And the Lakers, I mean Jackson Hayes played pretty great last night for them, but it didn't matter.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. His playoff career high. Jackson Hayes was, was doing his thing. Did anybody feel bad for LeBron? With 20 seconds left, missing a runner. They're down one point and LeBron missed a. A makeable runner for him was there to contest it. But still. Yeah, I mean it's LeBron of course.
Jay E. Skeets
Makeable. Yeah. They got the store off him. Caruso on him though. I mean again, what an incredible luxury for the Thunder. It's like okay, this guy another all defensive player. Now we'll just swap him with the other all defense player. But yeah, LeBron got by him and a makeable shot. And even Austin Reeves with the three at the end, that thing was in and out. So they got looks just kind of weird. I guess. Maxi Kleber was in just a screen.
Tas Melas
He's maybe a better screener. But if I want, if I'm trying to get a three, I'd like the guy who's the best three point shooter in playoff history. Personally agree and having a great night.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Just hit a couple massive threes to keep him in the game or up.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I guess they knew it was coming from the top. The three was coming from the top and they weren't gonna pass it at all. So yeah, it was definitely a quick shot.
Tas Melas
But I mean if they are able to guard Reeves, somebody else is gonna have to get open. And I would take my chances with Rui over Cleba. It didn't matter in the end. But I also wouldn't have switched Luke canard onto A.J. mitchell for an entire game. You know, different choices can be made.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, A.J. mitchell getting to the rim was. Is very impressive. The mid Rangers, okay. You know that sort of coming, but the way he's able to get. Get to the rim and finish, I just haven't seen that as much in the playoffs. At all. So, yes, the. The evolution of that guy. Very cool.
Jay E. Skeets
According to ESPN research, the Thunder became the fourth defending champion to begin the playoffs with at least eight consecutive wins here and the first since LeBron's Cavs in 2017 to do it. Yeah, thought that was fitting. So, OkC8. No, right now, average margin of victory, Toronto Rapids, 18.6% points. That's right. So they're cooking. And like the Knicks on the Eastern Conference side here, going to have a bit of a break as they wait for the other semifinal series to. To wrap up between, in their case, Minnesota and San Antonio, which sure feels like it's going seven.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
This could be another week for these two teams.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I thought it would be. I thought it would be a tougher maybe match or all these series would be a tougher playoff run for okc. Maybe it's just me being optimistic that we're gonna see some fight for other teams, but obviously it's not. Not the case here. Nuggets took them to seven games in the second round while the Lakers tried here. So they're gonna be waiting. Yeah, they got plenty of time off.
Tas Melas
So AJ Mitchell got a tan again.
Trey Kirby
He's gonna get more tanned. He's gonna go all the way to Belgium. I don't know how this. Nah, it's probably not warm enough. You're not going to Belgium.
Jay E. Skeets
No, probably not. There's a distinct possibility that was the last time we'll see LeBron either A, play an NBA game or B, play for the Lakers again. He is a. He is a free agent, which is a little strange, right? LeBron a free agent. So is Rui, so is Canard, so is Hayes, so is Maxi Kleba. Decisions to be made with Austin Reeves and all that, too. What do you think of the LeBron of it all? You know, he's asked about it. He did his classic LeBron. I don't know what the future holds for me. Going to talk to the family, assess everything. We've heard this song and dance a couple times before because the guy's 41 years old and he's played over 1900 actual basketball games. When you consider the regular season in the playoffs, what's your gut say, though? Is that the last time Lakers LeBron?
Tas Melas
My gut says, yeah, last time, Lakers LeBron. But I would have said there's no chance he's coming back to LA up through March. But then he played so well at the end of the season and was great for the Lakers during round one and probably was still their Best player in round two. You know, Reeves, they get. Did get it going from a scoring perspective in the last couple of games there in Los Angeles. But There are places LeBron can go if he wants to take a pay cut. And, you know, he's this far into his career, he probably will take a pay cut. Everybody says the number one thing for him is trying to win a championship. And there are teams that make sense that he could join where they would at least be in championship contention. The Lakers, they're not really close to winning a championship. And I think from their standpoint, it probably makes more sense to start like really building a team around luka doncic. And LeBron's contract coming off the books is helpful there because they need a lot of improvement if they're going to get anything resembling the Mavs team that Luca took to the NBA Finals once upon a time. But like, there's rumors of LeBron going to the warriors, the Knicks, the Cavs. Like, these are teams where you're still going to be in the mix for a championship and they're not la.
Trey Kirby
It's up to Rob Lenka, to me, if they are going to put together a. A roster made for Luka Doncic or not because they'd have lots of money coming off the books this coming summer. So if LeBron wants to take a pay cut and stay in LA, he can. Is it a. Hey, I'm an old man and I like my routine thing where I. My body is perfect here as a 41 year old and you don't want to do it somewhere else. Maybe there's just not an appealing situation. I don't. The Cleveland thing, I don't know, doesn't appeal, does it? Doesn't seem like it would appeal to LeBron at this point, but if there's another scenario, sure. But I understand if it is Rob Blanco saying, hey, we need, you know, the perfect guys, like The Derek Jones Jr. Chris Dunn, Daniel Gafford sort of situation. I get that. I get he may move there, but it. It would be weird to see LeBron take a huge breakout, but he could do it and stay in LA if he wants.
Jay E. Skeets
Luca missed the final 15 games of this season after the grade 2 hamstring strain in early April. And apparently he wasn't even close to returning from this injury, which often takes like two months of recovery. So, you know, he wasn't even maybe basically a month and a bit through. So, yeah, he was never coming back unless maybe they were going to like the Finals. But I'm sort Of I guess I'm with you, T.K. i think I've been saying that this is it for LeBron, that he's not going to actually return. Now everybody's like, come on. Come on, man. This is LeBron James. You don't think he wants the swan song. I get that. But if that's incorrect, I do think it's done with the Lakers here. And I think it's sort of best maybe for both parties. Like, LeBron could, in theory, pick wherever he really wants to go if he takes the super pickup. Like, he could so join said team to really help his chances of win title. And then for the Lakers, I think they should get serious about, like, building around a healthy Luca and whether that involves Austin Reeves. I mean, it sounds like Luca wants Reeves there. He's obviously an explosive offensive player. There are some defensive limitations, but can you cover up for them in the rest of the personnel? Yeah. And, you know, you got to get them like a rim running big of some sort. You got to go try and find that.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. If so, if this is about. I think they'll part ways pleasing Luca. I can see why Luca would want to go a different direction. That's. That's totally understandable. There was one time when Luca put his head down on the bench in game four, and that's when LeBron didn't get out to Lou Dort, who hit a wide open 3. Am I speculating as to if he likes LeBron or not? I mean, that's just the team that Luca knows he can win with. It's just defensive weapons. And LeBron is not that at this point of his career. We all know that. So I can understand if you want to please Luca. You build around Luca and the team that he can win with. I understand that.
Jay E. Skeets
Any random notes from the game for Thunder victory?
Tas Melas
Yeah. Some good courtside attendees here in Los Angeles, Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio sit in courtside like they're on a press tour for one battle after another. You've heard a lot of talk recently about the Lakers, their celebrity row. They've lost it to the Knicks. This is quite the clapback.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
I thought from L. A. We pulled in two of the biggest actors out there, and Dylan Brooks was there, too.
Jay E. Skeets
Incredible.
Tas Melas
Yep.
Jay E. Skeets
He was there to troll.
Tas Melas
He was there to troll, to hate.
Jay E. Skeets
Watch LeBron. And great camera work by the broadcast when LeBron was at the line. The one time that was started on smiley Dylan there with his iced out chain. Yeah. And it pulled back to reveal LeBron.
Tas Melas
I got swept too.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. People were wondering, do you think he switched ends and sat on the other baseline when the Lakers were shooting on the other hoop just to really be able to stick it to LeBron and smirk at him.
Trey Kirby
Eddie Murphy was there too, right?
Tas Melas
I think Eddie Murphy was there. Wow.
Trey Kirby
I believe I mistake. Yeah, I think so. I think he was. I think they showed a quick one. I wanted to know. Luka Doncic had a ball in his lap until six minutes left in the first quarter and a Lakers employee came over. You catch him on camera saying, hey, give me the ball. Yeah, don't have the ball on the bench.
Jay E. Skeets
It's amazing. We're just talking about that. It was the first thing I thought of was like, oh, Luke is really holding on to that ball on the sideline. Maybe he's listening to the show.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Game three, it was during the first time out, some. Someone got the ball out of his hands. But this time in Game 4, he got to hold it just a little bit longer after the first time out when somebody had to come over and say, hey, you can't have it there. He ain't going to drop it. But still, those are the rules. I felt like it was Mike Finley grabbing the beer from his hand. Give me that, give me that, give me that, give me that.
Jay E. Skeets
Anything else?
Trey Kirby
This is way in the weeds. This is deep. But the knee pads guys wear out there. I've been watching Caruso. Okay. You understand the guy wears knee pads. Isaiah Hartenstein, I think he has one knee pad and I think he wears it. It's. It's a custom. It's like on the side of his right knee. It's not like on the front, but he doesn't even have one on his left. It's just. I'm just knee watching. That's what happens when you watch so many games. And those again, custom, I think, and. But some guys don't have a custom at all, like Victor Wembanyama that just looks like it's sewn into those like, sleeves. Who's the other guy? Sar Thompson. Yeah. Just looks like it's part of the sleeves. Just wanted everybody to know.
Jay E. Skeets
Good.
Tas Melas
You really are knee watching.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. I mean, we watch a lot of games.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. A lot of downtime between. Just look at their knees, I guess. Take notes on knees.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
I found out about a new thing in hockey last night. There's a penalty apparently for something called butt ending.
Trey Kirby
Oh, he just hit somebody with a butt end of his.
Tas Melas
Guy got a 4 minute double minor for attempted butt ending attempting.
Jay E. Skeets
Didn't even connect.
Tas Melas
They couldn't determine if contact was made or not.
Trey Kirby
That's a good call. I like how that's penalized because guys are really good with their stick, and you could just, like they are, man, bang a guy. That's. That's surprising. Never happened before in the nb, in the NHL until this year, I guess.
Tas Melas
Don't ask me.
Jay E. Skeets
What game are you watching Recent?
Tas Melas
I must have been watching the Minnesota Wild.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
They were playing the Colorado Avalanche. ABs won.
Jay E. Skeets
Nothing survives in Avalanche.
Tas Melas
They're tough. McKinnon and Makar. Come on. Those get two together.
Trey Kirby
McKinnon and McCarr. Good names.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, those are the games from last night. One series, obviously, going six at the very least there between Detroit and Cleveland. And the Thunder stay undefeated. 8. No. Here in the postseason.
Trey Kirby
Oh, man, you got to get them from the beginning. Got to get him from the beginning of the series. Can't just wait. The Nuggets won Game 1 around two. Anyway, whatever. The Lakers show was a good show. That third quarter was good.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, look, they. They put up a fight.
Tas Melas
Crowd was awesome.
Jay E. Skeets
Crowd was hyped. Yeah, even Sean Penn and Leo were hyped, man.
Tas Melas
That's true.
Jay E. Skeets
They were into it.
Tas Melas
Sean Penn looks fried, man. This guy looks like he stuck his finger into an electrical socket. He's very Bob Ross esque.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes, he was. He was.
Trey Kirby
Oh, Jimmy Goldstein also there. He's always there. I can't believe. Okay, go on.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, he's always there still. All right, we'll take a break, and when we come back, is this news,
Tas Melas

Revenge game.
Trey Kirby
Wow.
Jay E. Skeets
Honestly, I don't mind it. I know. This guy always has an answer.
Trey Kirby
I get it.
Jay E. Skeets
You're going under. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
He's gonna play one of those well rounded games.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas

Tas Melas
Play it.
Jay E. Skeets
We'll play a game. We're going to play. Is this news? Is this news the game where I pull a headline for the guys and ask whether or not it's newsworthy? Play a lot in the stream team Play along podcast listener, especially on Spotify. Comment away. First one. Wembanyama avoids suspension for Nas Reed elbow will play game 5. So we were right on our prediction that the league would not suspend him. No fine either. They felt, you know, I guess the punishment was enough missing a majority of game four. Come on back for game five in a now best of three series. And your thoughts. Is this news?
Trey Kirby
This is fantastic news. Okay. For everybody involved and I think it's the right decision from the NBA because this is Victor Omanyama's first time he's been ejected from a game in his career. So he doesn't have a reputation as a bad. First of all.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
Trey Kirby
So everybody's saying, mostly from the Minnesota side, but a lot of people saying, I mean, that was an elbow and comparing it to a bunch of other elbows. I think it is different when you don't have a reputation at all. He missed plenty of the game. They lose the game. I think that's a part of it as well. Maybe a tiny part of it is that hit him in the neck, not in the face. He wasn't injured.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Him not being injured is a part of it, whether you like that or not. I do think it is. And even the wolves, like, from what I can tell, like Nas Reed and players and coaches, they're not like, you know, Naz Reed's not showing up in the neck brace at the post game press conference. Trying to sell it. Right. Like, they're like, yeah, I don't think they were calling for a suspension. Nah, like, all right, he got tossed. Rightfully so. Flagrant too.
Trey Kirby
They want to play.
Jay E. Skeets
Come on back. Yeah. So I think they're getting this right here. Even though of course some people are like, well, what about this one and what about this one and what about this one?
Trey Kirby
But yeah, you can. What about this one's all day. Rashawn Holmes, he had a big elbow. Someone's head. No suspension.
Jay E. Skeets
Wow. Hassan Whiteside, though. Suspension, suspension.
Tas Melas
There are a lot of suspensions for elbows.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, there are. Yeah.
Tas Melas
And you're. What abouting them? Most of the other ones. Ones are for suspensions. But I would have to quibble with one thing. This is not good news for everybody involved because the Timberwolves are involved and this is bad news for them. San Antonio plus 32 in all the minutes that Wendy's played. Only plus 6 with WEMBY. Sure. So this is better news for the Spurs, I would say.
Jay E. Skeets
Though I will add to this game going in at least. At last I saw it. Darren Fox is questionable.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
For tonight's Game five. A pivotal Game five. Does he know it's pivotal? Because he's got this ankle injury. So he's got him now.
Trey Kirby
Oh, I love the NBA official page.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Oh, yeah, you're always referring.
Trey Kirby
1045 is the latest report. This is 1059 Eastern, as I reported. So there's going to be another one in a minute.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
We got nothing.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, he's not there now.
Trey Kirby
Oh, dear. Fox. Questionable. My bad. My bad. My bad. Right ankle soreness.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
And they always throw injury, slash illness on there just in case he gets sick.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay, so you're telling me in one minute that is going to. In theory. Refresh.
Trey Kirby
It will say 11am and it'll say the exact same thing. Most likely because it hasn't changed. But yeah, every 15 minutes. Transparency.
Public/Investment Ad Announcer
Hold on.
Jay E. Skeets
We should like, now wait until 11 because you could have breaking news. If it's not there, then you get to break the news. He's a go. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Refresh it.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I've got. I've got. It's 1111 on my apple Mac, but nothing happening here as far as a new report coming. What up with that? 1045 Eastern. Still the last one.
Jay E. Skeets
Wow.
Trey Kirby
Come on.
Jay E. Skeets
Damn. They lied to us.
Trey Kirby
We're working on the same clocks. We know you're working on Apple Max at the NBA League office. You're not on PC.
Jay E. Skeets
No.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. Still waiting. Still.
Jay E. Skeets
Wow, this guy's refreshing.
Trey Kirby
Where are you?
Jay E. Skeets
Button's gonna break.
Trey Kirby
Where are you?
Jay E. Skeets
Okay, okay.
Trey Kirby
As long as.
Jay E. Skeets
Move on. Anything else on Wemby?
Tas Melas
No, I'm excited.
Trey Kirby
Hey, listen. Plus. You said plus six with him sitting. That's pretty good. At least they're winning those minutes.
Tas Melas
Yeah, definitely. I mean, I'm sure it's. The blowout was probably why, but still.
Trey Kirby
Still. And.
Tas Melas
And they played well without Wemby. Went out with the people's elbow.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, next headline here. Still not that task. Keeps refreshing on the.
Trey Kirby
It's going to be 1101, game five status. What's going on?
Jay E. Skeets
Bucks seeking trade offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo. This is from Shams tk. Is this news? No, no, no, it's not.
Trey Kirby
What's going on?
Tas Melas
It's not news. They've been trying to trade this guy
Trey Kirby
for a year, Right? Will he?
Tas Melas
Won't he, Won't he? Will he? I'm in. I'm gone. I'm staying. I'm leaving. It doesn't matter. The silver lining is that Jimmy Haslam's a good man. I don't think that's actually true. I think he's a bad man. But he told us we're gonna have this sorted out by the draft and that's only a month away. I thought this was gonna last until October and I'd be very, very happy if it's done in the middle of June.
Jay E. Skeets
Be awesome.
Tas Melas
Yeah, that'd be so good.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Shams in the article said, quote, there is expected to be a robust market for Giannis's services and ownership and front office officials expect to maintain their trade deadline. Asking price of a young blue chip talent and or a surplus of draft picks. I'll end quote there.
Trey Kirby
The difference between now and the last like 10 months is that this is when teams can offer the most. Teams are ready to make trades right now. Yeah. And then they know the draft picks, a lot of them have failed and haven't advanced in the playoffs. So there's that desire, can we get better? There's the one superstar that can be traded right now. His name is Yan Stempo. So I think there's going to be a bunch of offers on Thursday when we don't have any games in the NBA. I think on Friday show we should come out with some packages, baby. Because I don't know exactly where Janice wants to go. And I think that's a big part of it. I think that's a huge part of it.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. His preferred destination to sign said extension,
Trey Kirby
which has been the Knicks, but it can't be the Knicks this week anyway. I mean, it can't be. It can't be the Knicks until they're essentially eliminated. If they get eliminated in the conference finals. Okay. Right. But we've had this debate before whether or not James Dolan saying we got to make the NBA Finals this season means if they make the Finals, that they just stick with it and try it again. Or that means tear this thing down if conference final tear down. No doubt. But you know, I started looking at everything that's available for offer right now and we can get to on Friday. The Miami one sort of makes sense. They can give them three picks. They can give him Tyler Hero, who can go back to Milwaukee, but Giannis may not want to go there right May not want to go there without a. A lead ball handler, which we saw was a big problem in Milwaukee. He would love to play with Bam. Love to play with Bam, but the other parts have to play in here. So there's. There's many teams, I think, that will make plenty of offers, just like, in
Jay E. Skeets
theory, they were at the trade deadline.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
And Milwaukee standing pat at the trade
Trey Kirby
deadline, but not as good. Not as good till now. Like, Miami just got a new first round pick they can offer.
Jay E. Skeets
So the one thing in this article that pissed me off, though, from Shams is it was later in the article, after all the, you know, trade talk, and they're open and they're exploring and they're talking about it, it said, quote, the Bucks are also leaving the door open to pursue a major trade to persuade Giannis to stay, once again allowing Horst to work parallel paths. They will have the 10th overall pick in the draft, two other future first rounders, and tradable contracts such as those of Bobby Portis and Kyle Kuzma to offer in deals this off season. And I said, holy tas. Melis called Sean and told him to put that in there. Come on, come on. We're not doing. We're not doing this again. No, he's. He's gone.
Trey Kirby
He is going, probably, but he can make the most money by signing here with Cleveland, excuse me, with Milwaukee on October 1st, and then get traded at a different time. I mean, I. I do feel like at the beginning of the season when all the rumors came in, I said he's going to abide by his word. And he said he was going to try as hard as he could this season and that would be it. So, yeah, I feel like this could be the time, but he could also be super smart. Say, sign, sign, sign. Trade me now if he wants to. And. And, yeah, we shall see.
Jay E. Skeets
Anything else? T.K. sign.
Tas Melas
Sign, sign.
Trey Kirby
Trade me now.
Tas Melas
Unfortunately, you make a good point. He would make a lot more money if he just sticks around until October, signs the deal, and then forces a trade, which we have seen so many guys do, including a guy that he was a teammate with in Damian Lillard. That is a tried and true playbook in the NBA to get more money. So, unfortunately, it's reasonable.
Trey Kirby
It is possible.
Tas Melas
Which would make it last until October again, and then would make it last until the trade deadline again. One more. Sean has another report. Is this news the Bucks are looking at trade packages for Giannis Antichokoun.
Jay E. Skeets
The extension wouldn't be the same if he's Traded. It would just be six months after the trade, is it not? Wouldn't the money remain the same? 4 years, 275 million, or whatever the contract extension would be.
Tas Melas
Does he not get benefits for staying in Milwaukee and being all NBAs and that kind of stuff? I don't remember what he's qualifying for, but yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, God, can't wait for this all summer. But you're right, Tassa. Friday would be a nice time to come with your Giannis trade offers.
Trey Kirby
Oh, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
For the 10th time here on this show, they're basically going to be all the same things they were before, except probably more draft capital of some sort.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I doubt Giannis wants to do what that idea, that trade just said. Sign the contract and then go play games again, you know, for Milwaukee and then say, I'm out of here after.
Jay E. Skeets
They're making it sound like. I mean, I say they as in Bucks ownership and making it sound like we want this done before the draft.
Tas Melas
That's what they're saying.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. To decide one way or the other
Jay E. Skeets
to get those picks, to get our future potential stars in draft picks if they trade. But.
Trey Kirby
But they also left the door open of him wanting to resign.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes, of course. There's coven covering their ass there, I guess.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. We'll get to it on Friday. But the question is, did he. He hurt his trade value by getting injured more this season? Maybe, maybe not. He's getting older.
Jay E. Skeets
Help it.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
I mean, it got to the point it got so contentious that he's like, I want to keep playing. And they're like, no, don't play, man. What are you doing? You could hurt yourself even more. And then we're pooched even more. So, I mean, that was a thing. He was basically calling for an investigation into his own team because they wouldn't let him play. Let him play. Something weird.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, that was wild. Yeah, that was.
Jay E. Skeets
That did happen.
Trey Kirby
Kawhi like fresh report from NBA official.
Tas Melas
Let's go.
Trey Kirby
It came through. Came through late, but the Aaron Fox still questions. Okay, Just so everybody knows, everybody has it waited. We waited. We waited. It came out at 11 o' clock Eastern, is what it said, but it was later. And yeah, our YouTube streamer saying, Tess, you don't have to call it an Apple Mac. It's redundant. Yeah. Hey, listen, I'm trying to buy some time for them to get out their official NBA report. I'm going to throw an extra name in there. That's needless, for sure.
Jay E. Skeets
And you said the league. You assumed the league was operating on on Max.
Trey Kirby
But no, I could be wrong.
Jay E. Skeets
I mean don't they have a. Well, I guess that's the Google phone, right? Or what's the. They have commercials or a deal with.
Tas Melas
They do Gemini like ad reads all the time.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, they do.
Tas Melas
Why do teams do small ball in the playoffs?
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, that's right. That's right. I'm just wondering. Silver might be a PC guy.
Tas Melas
You think he likes it customizable?
Jay E. Skeets
Maybe.
Tas Melas
I can see that.
Jay E. Skeets
Don't discredit it.

It's from a couple days ago, but Steve Kerr agrees to a two year deal to remain with the Warriors. The deal is going to keep Kerr as the highest paid coach in the NBA. He made $17.5 million last season, so it's either the same as that if not more. TK is this news?
Tas Melas
I guess this is sort of news just because we know Steve Kerr sticking around, Steph Curry sticking around, Draymond Green. He's there for at least a little bit more though. There is a little bit of talk about him potentially being traded because he would have to be involved from a contract standpoint. I guess Jimmy Butler could be in the mix as well. But you know, just every time Kerr and Curry sign contracts that are basically putting on the same timeline, you just start thinking is this the end? Is this the end? Is this the end? There's just been so many last dances for this warriors team. I was looking at headlines. There are headlines about this being the Warriors Last Dance in 22, 23, 24, 25. And now we got two more years as a long dance.
Jay E. Skeets
A very long dance. Somebody turned the lights on already. Let's go home.
Tas Melas
Take me home today.
Trey Kirby
It felt like last year would be the last, last dance right until this. He's actually signed longer than Steph Curry at this point.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. But I would expect the warriors to reach an agreement here.
Trey Kirby
I would.
Jay E. Skeets
Curry on an extension sooner rather than later.
Trey Kirby
Korean going anywhere.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. It would only be a one year extension for Steph because he signed through next year.
Jay E. Skeets
That's happening.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Public/Investment Ad Announcer
The.
Trey Kirby
The one player who could be traded this year as Trey brought up the Draymond scenario.
Jay E. Skeets
True. He has a player option. He's expected to either pick it up or, I guess remain with the Warriors. To remain with the Warriors. Excuse me. Or he could decline it in favor of a longer term deal, less money. So it's a possibility too. Or you're right. Are they moving off him if they're going to make any sort of splashy big move for another superstar. Hell, Giannis, for crying out loud, could be going to have to be Draymond Green's contract or Jimmy Butler's contract, who, by the way, is injured and will be injured at the start of next season. Oh, yeah, Moses Moody also out for the season. So they're. I mean, they're playing the hits here. This is like the old band, man. There's like, yeah, let's just do it. And maybe that's. Maybe that's the thinking of ownership. They're like, oh, Jesus, the Thunder never lose. Wemby and the spurs, good luck. They're just getting better and better. Maybe this is just. It's just like, cash those checks here. If you're ownership here with Steph Curry in your building and sellout still and obviously all the. The key core pieces here and just like wait it out and then build for the future. After post Curry and after. Maybe those teams start to have to break up because of CBA limitations on them. I don't know. Because they're not.
Tas Melas
Basically what Draymond said when he was dissing Charles Barkley. He was saying, we just want to be a competitive team out there.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
We want to go out with our heads held high on our swords rather than like the way the Bulls dynasty broke up. It was just over. Yeah, we're the worst team immediately. So I don't know. Draymond also gave that interview at the trade deadline where he was basically like, I'm probably being traded. I'm gone. And they couldn't actually get a deal done. They brought him back and now it's going to be the same question marks for him. Is he involved in any sort of trades? Would Jimmy Butler be involved in any sort of trades? Which means once we get to the trade deadline again, I'll be like, oh, the warriors are pursuing some people. Will they include their first round picks? They won't because they are eyeballing a future someday where there's no Curry, no Kerr, no Draymond, and they have to rebuild the team. And guess what? It's going to be hard. The Bulls still haven't recovered. When your dynasty ends, it's tough to get back on track unless the NBA gives you an awesome player. Like what happened with the Spurs. That's how you got to do it. If you're a dynasty, you got to hope they get rigged for you. It happened to the Bulls once. I was there. Then he blew out his knee and it was over.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I wonder what Joe Akob convinced Steve Kerr that they would be doing these next couple years because they had long meetings, as reported by ESPN and Anthony Slater. That being said, I don't think it's. We can sign Draymond to an extension. I think that sounds a little crazy to. To say to Draymond, hey, let's. And to say to their teams, we're bringing back Draymond. As Draymond said to the TNT crew. And he was asked, what are you looking forward to in this future? He said, sometimes at some point you kind of have to look at success in a different way and basically saying, we don't look so good right now. You know, I tied that to Draymond and his potential tradable contract him. Moses moody would total 40 mil. If you want to trade those and keep Jimmy around or have to keep Trumi around some good money wise, you know, it's still a thin team beyond Steph and Jimmy. We shall see.
Jay E. Skeets
They could make a move for Giannis, I guess if they do want to try and go for like one more with Steph Curry as your lead guy and you need a star player again. Feels like Giannis wants to stay in the Eastern Conference and doesn't want to go west. So that's a big part of it. Koc thinks the warriors could make a move for Kawhi Leonard if he's available, and the Clippers go a different route there. And then of course, LeBron James to sort of mash these two headlines together or something. We talked about earlier in this podcast, the idea of like targeting him in free agency and having LeBron James and Curry play on a squad you really want to play the hits, then let's do it. If he continues to or decides to continue to play. So. Yep. More. More. What will the warriors do here? More.
Tas Melas
What will the Warriors.
Jay E. Skeets
Will they mortgage any of the future like you said, to try and give them another chance at a title?
Tas Melas
They've Already traded their 20, 30 first round pick protected 1 through 20. Interesting. My guess is that they just try and stay competitive because when I was looking up these last dance headlines, there's one about giannis Antetokounmpo from 2020. Giannis Antetokounmpo is part of the warriors last dance plans. They've been chasing this guy for so long so they'll keep trying to go after him and I don't know what they can offer back to the Bucks because they want a young blue chip prospect that's not on the team and they want a lot of first round picks and they do have their picks, first round picks. And trust me, you're going to want those warriors ones in the future.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, that would be the thinking there. But yeah, the blue chip player is like Pajemski. That's. I think they're looking for better than that.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
All right. Those are the headlines.
Trey Kirby
Oh yeah, he's also from Wisconsin.
Jay E. Skeets
Is he?
Trey Kirby
Pods. Yeah. Just like Tyler. Hero.
Tas Melas
It's true.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
You have to be from Wisconsin.
Tas Melas
The only way you can put together a fake trade is if a guy is from that.
Jay E. Skeets
That's right. That's right.
Tas Melas
It comes up all the time nowadays. Jalen Brown to the Hawks, they're saying.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, that's right.
Trey Kirby
Pajemski. One of his nicknames, the Pythagorean theorem.
Jay E. Skeets
No, that's definitely one of his nicknames.
Trey Kirby
Hell yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Basketball reference though.
Trey Kirby
The Greek tie in. I mean, you know.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
Do you know the Pythagorean theorem?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it's easy. Is that a trick question?
Tas Melas
I was just curious.
Jay E. Skeets
Lovely. Of the night. Sponsored by Ethan Lenox from Muswell Hill, England. Does that sound familiar? Muswell Hill, England.
Tas Melas
Yeah, the Muzzies.
Jay E. Skeets
I said it recently here in Whoa Boy with a previous sponsorship. Listen to this. Ethan writes in. Been a listener since I was at college in upstate New York. I've since moved countries, gotten married, had a kid. I am still listening in. We love it, Ethan. He continues. Imagine my surprise when I heard Whoa Boy. Sponsored by Ben Grubb and the Muswell Hill Ballers. Since I now live in Muswell Hill. Not just that, but my old rec league team disbanded and I've been looking for a new team. So I would like to sponsor Woah Boy and ask if you can put me in touch with Ben and Damian, who was the GM of the Muswell Hill Ballers, to see if I can join the squad. We gotta get our guy here, Ethan, on this team. Or at least a tryout. At least a tryout. This is incredible.
Tas Melas
It's like misconnections.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Yeah. So now you've already. You've already put them in touch, I guess, through email, Right? Is that. You have these forwarded?
Trey Kirby
I have sent an email address.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
Has not been responded to at this point. I don't know. I don't know what the connection is, but they know each other in the ether.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay. Muswell Hill. How big is Muswell Hill? That's what I'm looking up. Population. Oh my God. This place is. This is like Strafford, Ontario.
Tas Melas
What?
Jay E. Skeets
This place is small, man. Population of 27,000. This is a very tiny town. You're gonna have to be bumping into each other on the courts, man.
Tas Melas
They've probably been in the same building.
Jay E. Skeets
Maybe they played against each other.
Tas Melas
Wow. Ben versus Ethan.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, so we will hopefully get an update on this. I hope Ethan, in sponsoring Woah Boy, that you do get in touch with Ben and Damien. I mean, they might be listening right now. Check your emails, guys, if you are. Or who sponsored it? Ben, right? Was that the one or was it Damien? It doesn't matter anyway.
Trey Kirby
Ben. Ben Grubb. It was Ben Grubbin.
Jay E. Skeets
Grubb. Yes.
Trey Kirby
How can you forget that name? Ben Grubb.
Jay E. Skeets
Rub a dub grub.
Tas Melas
Rub a dub Grub. Send in some highlight tapes.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, I know. I'm invested.
Tas Melas
Ethan, let's see your game. I mean, how can we possibly recommend you to Ben and Damon?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, we can't.
Tas Melas
The skills.
Trey Kirby
We can't talk about Giannis's trades every day during the summer. If it's still up, we'll watch your tape and evaluate yours.
Jay E. Skeets
I'm in. Well, by Donovan Mitchell scored a record tying 39 of his 43 points in the second half. This guy's got 39 in the second half. This is nuts. 13 of 26 from the field, 4 of 12 from deep, 13 of 15 at the line. Five boards, couple of dimes, one steal. 37 minutes played and we got a two. Two series.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, between Detroit and Cleveland.
Tas Melas
So good stuff.
Jay E. Skeets
I mean, I thought about Evan Mobley, obviously. AJ Mitchell, sga, whatever. But that's a, you know, a record tying second half performance that almost. I mean, we sort of like not. We glossed over it because he was awesome, but we didn't unpack. Like every bucket. He's just feeling it. Yeah.
Tas Melas
We barely even talked about those two assists.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Got him. Got him right at the beginning. I wonder if a guy's ever won. Whoa, boy. Off just the second half, you know, like they bring in some dude off
Jay E. Skeets
the bench, he goes for seven threes, I'm sure. Yeah, that's happened before. That's happened before. But very rare.
Tas Melas
This is pretty close. Very all second half performance.
Jay E. Skeets
Congrats.
Trey Kirby
I thought Max might get it pulled off the bench in the second half.
Jay E. Skeets
So we are down to one game tonight and Wednesday. We got no games on Thursday. That's what the schedule's looking like right now. Yeah. Yep. As we get into these pivotal game fives. San Antonio, Minnesota tonight, Wemby revenge potentially. Who comes through for Minnesota feels like. That feels like the Wolves like, you know, ants doing his part here, but especially in that game four. But he really needs like a huge, like give me one big Julius Randall game or one more big IO game or something like that for them to. To. To steal one here. Maybe in. In San Antonio. Steal a second game in San Antonio. Excited for this one. This look feels like the series to me here tonight. Whoever wins this one is like, I like their chances to win one of the next two.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. You called Wolves in seven. Seven.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
So what are they gonna do six, seven or five tonight?
Jay E. Skeets
Win tonight on the road, lose back in their bar on the road again. And that'd be crazy. I mean.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Is it. It's tough. Yeah. But anything could happen.
Tas Melas
Any result could happen. I do feel like the Wolves have been missing Divincenzo a lot in the past couple of series and his just like chucking nature really is helpful because I mean, they get enough three point shots up, but he just shoots it so quickly that yeah, it's definitely an advantage for them. And I'm sure they would have liked to have him late in that fourth quarter as they were trying to blow the lead.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I thought Nas was kind of that guy.
Tas Melas
He's been playing really well. I think this.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, I thought he's had. I thought he had a pretty disappointing regular season.
Trey Kirby
Oh, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
By. By his account. So, yeah, he's been good. We'll talk about that tomorrow. Hopefully we get a classic in game five. Pivotal game five there in San Antonio. We'll break it down here at 10am Eastern. Hopefully you'll join us live. If not, you'll watch or listen later. Appreciate you joining us. Maybe we'll hit the beach. I mean we'll hit the beach at some point this week. So keep those emails coming. I saw we got some, so that's good. So if you got a good question, send it in. No dunks inc.mail.com till tomorrow. Clipper Bros. You heard it here first. Have a great time. Turn up. Love you guys.
Tas Melas
Awesome.
Trey Kirby
Thanks for joining us. And remember, we'll be back tomorrow to talk mini San Antonio. And as far as injuries go, got an 11:15 report from the NBA. Still questionable for Dear and Fox. Steven Cheno obviously out. Otherwise we're clear. We're seeing a Wemby, that's for sure.

Donovan Mitchell’s historic second-half outburst, the Thunder’s composure sweeping the Lakers, and a swirl of NBA offseason intrigue (LeBron, Giannis, Warriors) made for a packed, classic No Dunks episode blending sharp playoff analysis with trademark humor.
