No rest for the sickos welcome back to an emergency edition of the no Dunks podcast presented by FanDuel. It's Monday night, June 29, 2026, just after 5:30pm Eastern. I'm Je Skeets here in the yard and back from the Midwest. It's my top shot hot boy Trey Kirby Ayo hey yo, what's up, my man. How was Chicago?
Trey Kirby
It was a great time. You know, out in nature, doing hikes, seeing family, having laughs and scrolling Twitter to see what kind of trades and free agency signings are going down. And luckily I got to catch up with my friends Je Skeets and Tas Melas on the plane today and they're telling me this. John Moran.
Sponsor Representative
Wow.
Trey Kirby
A lot of rumors around this guy. A lot of buckets of slop to check out and what to my wondering eyes should appear just an hour after getting back to my house. But a delicious trade to talk about.
Je Skeets
That's right. We got J.D. in the background. He's pulling all the levers and such. But we have the Memphis Grizzlies trading two time NBA All Star Ja Morant to the Portland Trailblazers. Maybe that's the shocking part here. The team he's headed to. We knew he was getting dealt, but he goes to Portland for Jeremy Grant and Chris Murray Shams of espn, the first one to report this deal. So. So there it is. Pretty simple, you know, from what we know, no draft picks either going to Memphis for John Morant or like we were hearing over the last week or so, no picks having to be attached to John Morant for the Grizzlies to get off him. Trey, your thoughts here?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I guess this is a 3D Dennis Scott kind of trade. Players only, baby. Yeah, definitely came out of nowhere. Look, Jaw was going to be traded. We knew that. I heard you guys talking about it this morning. Seemed quite likely that it would happen as soon as we got to free agency. So not a surprise that Ja was traded from the Grizzlies. They've been trying to get him moved at least since this past trade deadline. The surprise is that it is to the Blazers. And I think the surprise is that. I don't know about you, Skeets, but I was waiting for the 12 from Shams. I was waiting for him to say anything else. We was included in this, but no, it's just a bag of beans for John Morant. An expensive contract in Jeremy Grant. Chris Murray, one of the top two Murrays in the NBA.
Je Skeets
Sure.
Trey Kirby
Probably not if you're going full Murray, but in his family, he's top two.
Ad Read Announcer
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
And that's it. That's literally it. Coming back to the Grizzlies for John Morant, the guy who led their resurgence what feels like two decades ago, but was really just a couple of years ago.
Je Skeets
Yeah, I mean, from what we know, the Grizzlies aggressively tried trading this guy at the last deadline, right, and found very minimal interest. And this was in a very down year for him. You know, he had basically his worst year, right, with 19 and a half points per game. He shot 41% from the floor, 23.5% from deep. He only played 20 games. He had another suspension. Getting into it with the head coach, the new head coach at that in Memphis, look, it was bad. They tried trading them. Didn't get any sort of package that excited them. So they wait, they wait, they wait. And they just wanted out of the John Morant business. There is no doubt about this, because this is, quite frankly, this is nothing. You know, no offense to Jeremy Grant, he's fine. He's totally fine. But John Morant went healthy and at the level he played at, was a superstar. So this feels like the ultimate buy low here by the Portland Trail Blazers. But on this morning's show, we were like looking around, doing a canvas of the league. It's like, who does need a point guard? Like, who is actually going to want to even trade for John Morant because they have a slot for a potential point guard. I don't think it was the Blazers. Last I checked. They still have like three point guards. Trey, if you count Drew Holiday, Damian Lillard. Oh yeah, he's coming back. And then Scoot Henderson is sort of a point guard too. So now four point guards. Is this just leading to another big move that everybody's wondering with possibly Portland, I don't know, still in the Jalen Brown game? Because you could package one of those guards, let's say Drew Holiday and Sharp or something like that for Jalen Brown. What do you think about that?
Trey Kirby
Well, I think they have four point guards right now and I think by the time we get to July 2, there will not be four point guards for the Portland Trail Blazers because they need to do something around Ja Morant. They can't just have Ja like you're saying, Dame coming back, Jrue Holiday, scoot. There's just not enough minutes there. They need shooting around Ja Abdia and Donovan Klingan. So they're going to have to figure out a way to ship out one of those guys and maybe it ends up being for Jaylen Brown because no picks involved in this deal means the Blazers are still very alive for any other deal. And that's why I really like this for Portland. First of all, like you're saying what a great buy low candidate John Morant is. He's going to be 27 and at the start of the season. And the good thing for the Blazers, good thing I guess is that they already were on a bad contract in Jeremy Grant. He's paid through the exact same season as Ja Morant is. Now the Blazers are kicking in another $8 million basically, and they're getting Ja Morant. I would rather be overpaying Ja Morant than overpaying Jeremy Grant. Even if their names do sound a lot alike when I'm saying them out loud. Ja Morant, Jeremy Grant. What a confusing trade. But it's kind of like being pot committed. If I'm in for a penny, I'm in for a pound. So it's another $8 million. Maybe you get something back from John Moran because I know you are think it's favorable that if he goes to another place, he locks in, he's got a chip on his shoulder, we get sort of back to the old John Moran. I think that's quite reasonable. But I think even if he's not as good as he ever was or as good as we were hoping he was ever going to be, he can still do a lot more than Jeremy. Granted for the Trailblazers, that's assuming job plays. And that's why this is still a risk. This is still a gamble for the Blazers. They could be paying $45 million to a guy who plays in eight games for. In a season for a variety of reasons. But I think this is a better way to use that salary slot, the potentially overpaid guy salary slot. I like it being on John Morant. And once they bring him in at his age, at his salary level, everybody else kind of has to be on the table, I think.
Je Skeets
Yeah, for sure. So look, I'm with you on all what you just said there. It is still a risk. This guy's played 79 games across three seasons due to off court issues and injuries. This stat that I'm about to say still sounds fake to me. We've shared it before and I'm sure you've seen it before. John Morant hasn't played more than six consecutive games since the 2223 season. Six consecutive games. That sounds fake. That sounds like a screwed up AI overview. That's just wrong.
Trey Kirby
That's less than a Linsanity run.
Je Skeets
Yeah, yeah, exactly. So he's got two years 87 million remaining on his contract. So it's a lot of money. But I thought you nailed it there.
Sponsor Representative
It's.
Je Skeets
Would I rather want to give that to Jeremy Grant or take a stab on John morant still at 27 when we start next year trying to rehabilitate, rehabilitate his career, so to speak, and obviously get back to what made him great. Now maybe he can't get there, maybe because of injuries. It zapped him of that explosiveness, that bounce. He unfortunately never added a three point shot. He hasn't been an impactful defender. So it's like he's a dynamic playmaker but he needs the athletic attributes to obviously sort of dominate a game still. So you're hoping on that. But I just don't think Portland's done here either. It'd be insane to me because we listed four point guards and then you said Denny Avdia and I'm like, oh yeah, he's sort of a point guard. Like the way they play, it's like you take the ball, you operate, you drive downhill. So it's like five guys here. I haven't even got to Sharp. Obviously a score or two needs a ball. There's just a lot of like sort of point guard guard wings. They have to have to be moving off one if not two of these guys. If, if jaw is obviously in the mix now.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, exactly right. I think that Scoot is coming up for his first contract extension after being a rookie. Had a good moment in the playoffs, but hasn't necessarily established himself. Hasn't continued to stay healthy this far into his very, very young career. But that I think is an issue. They probably don't want to pay him, but maybe another team has a little bit more shine towards him.
Je Skeets
I don't know.
Trey Kirby
Teams could definitely be in the mix. For Jrue Holiday. There are pieces that the Blazers now getting their hoped for point guard of the future in John Moran. That's got to be what this is, is that they hope he's the next guy for them. Sticks around for a little bit on this buy low. Everybody else has to be available because the team right now just doesn't make sense. It's all guards who handle the ball. Like, you know, Dame Lillard is probably the best off ball threat of all the guys that we've mentioned who are handling the ball. But like Scoot's got to be available. Drew Sharp I would imagine is available as well. The only things I'm guessing that are locked down is Avdia, Kamara and Klingon. And then you got to figure out some depth, you got to figure out some shooting. And the goal I suppose should be probably top six in the west for the Blazers. I think that's going to be a hard spot to get to with teams beefing up and you know, the talent level, we'll see where the Blazers ultimately end up. But that's got to be where they're hoping for. You know, they got in via the play in this year, let's skip it next year.
Je Skeets
Yeah. In doing so, they change coaches, are obviously changing their personnel. They're maybe not done. So a lot of turnover here, but still obviously a talented roster. Now I think some people are going to be like, what the hell is they doing here? Like people have given up on John Moran, right?
Trey Kirby
Yes.
Je Skeets
And they might be right. They might be proven right. I don't think so, but that's where they're going. What are you doing Portland here? Especially if like nothing else materializes here. But is it just like you buy low on a guy like this and maybe you're the one that helps him get his value up and then suddenly you're flipping John Morant for draft capital, Another young prospect like, like down the line. We've seen that happen before too. So that's why I like, I like the reasoning there. If, if all the off court issues are sort of in the past and he's matured there, then you got to deal with the injury part. Sure. Like you got to do with every player. But I think that's a part of the equation too here. Just buy super low, build them back up a little bit and you know, you said point guard of the future, but who knows, know, a year or two later. Yeah, exactly. Go ahead.
Trey Kirby
And the cost is so low. I mean, giving up a contract that you don't want on your books anyways in Jeremy Grant, no picks, it may go on to cost you. Scoot Henderson, but I think that's kind of like backwards thinking. You know, he was your hoped for franchise cornerstone. It doesn't look to be turning out that way. So that cost I think would even be pretty low for the Blazers. And you can't deny this has got to be a little bit of new owner syndrome for sure. Tom Duncan saying, hey, there's a cheap John Morant over there. Go do it.
Je Skeets
He's excited.
Trey Kirby
Exciting.
Je Skeets
Yeah, you said the magic word, cheap.
Trey Kirby
That's exactly right.
Je Skeets
What? His ears perked up. What? How much? What can we get him for?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, so I think it's a, I think this is a good buy low for the Blazers and it could work out for them if Ja Rant has his head screwed on the right way. And if it's not like the Stream team saying he's putting the jaw in jailblazers, it is a Hilarious place for him to go to considering his past off court issues.
Je Skeets
Yes, that's very true.

If you're just joining us, appreciate it here live on YouTube. JD maybe I'll get you to throw the graphic back up. We had a trade on the EVA free agency and it's John Morant going to the Portland Trailblazers. Are they the Jailblazers once again? Hopefully not. Hopefully not. But he's going there for simple two for one. It's jaw for Jeremy Grant and Chris Murray. And some people are like, who is Chris Murray? I get it, you casuals, I get it. You know, not a key, key player there in Portland. So they're not giving up a lot. And it was really that contract that Jeremy Grant made around what, 34, 35 million now.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Je Skeets
John Marink has paid more, but is a much, much better player even, even at his lowest of lows here, which is which he's at, at his career right now like this. Never been worse for John Moran.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, absolutely. He definitely has something to prove for a variety of reasons. He needs to stay healthy, I think is first and foremost and then show what he can do because he had some decent stretches last year. I know it wasn't ever six games in a row, not that good. But he had some decent, you know, couple of weeks here and there with the game spread out to give his legs a bit of a rest. And maybe that's something that works out good for Dame Lillard too. Like this guy's gonna be 36 years old coming off an Achilles injury. He's probably not going to be giving you 48 minutes a night. So at least now you can split the difference between him and Ja, figure out if they can work together for a short term and try and build a team that makes a little bit of sense. If you're the Grizzlies, like, it sucks. Ja Morant turned into literally nothing. But at least your front office had the foresight to see that this era had come to an end because they have five extra firsts between the Bain trade and the Jaren Jackson Jr. Trade. They got out ahead on both of those deals, which was pretty smart, knowing that when it came down to it, it was going to be tough to trade John Morant for any sort of value. They got no value, but they got the value from the other things. And now Cam Boozer's got a lot of room to spread his wings in his rookie year.
Je Skeets
Yeah, as Sean's wrote in his sort of article about this breaking news, the Grizzlies were once considered one of the league's most talented young cores. And unfortunately, they didn't have a lot of playoff success. I think they only won one series in their four playoff appearances with the trio. But now all three of those guys in Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. And Desmond Bain, all gone. Like, what a reset. If I had told you, though, a couple years ago, hey, man, Memphis Grizzlies are going to trade all three of those guys and you, you're not going to believe this, but the one guy that's going to get no first round draft capital back is John Moran. You would have laughed at me. You would have laughed me out of the building. You're like, yeah, right. Yeah, right. I think it's more likely a Desmond bait or Jared Jackson Jr. Won't get anything back. Instead, it's jaw, which is crazy, but all three of them gone. And you're right, this is just a complete reset. And it's not like Jeremy Grant's a pro. That's fine. Like he's. It's not going to disrupt anything, whether he's even how long he's there, who knows. But this is Cam Boozer time and obviously Cedric Coward and some younger pieces and stuff. Like they're going to be, I would expect to be one of the worst teams in the league, I think.
Trey Kirby
I think so. I mean, they, what, won 25 games last season got the third overall pick. So, like, they bottomed out at the absolute perfect time before tanking rules come into action. They would have been looking even better if they could get the Jazz pick, which is why they voted against the new lottery odds. But like, they went from, oh, this could be the up and coming team in the Western Conference to drafting in the lottery pretty quickly. John Morant was the number two pick in 2019.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, that's a pretty quick round trip.
Je Skeets
Yep, it's very quick, man. Things move quick.
Trey Kirby
But also, I think if you're a Grizzlies fan, you have more optimism at the start of the 26, 27 season than you did at the start of last season.
Je Skeets
I think it would have been a nightmare. They obviously thought the same thing here in trading John Moran here when they did. Like, just having that, like, cloud over the team. It's just like, it's bad vibes for everyone, especially new talent, new, you know, a young prospect like Cam Boozer coming in, no matter how professional he probably will be, immediately, like, guy feels like he's already sort of been in the league oddly, probably because of his dad. It's like, you just don't want that around an organization. You want the fresh start, and even if that means winning 20 games, so be it. Like, let them block. Let them find their own footing. Let there be a freshness to this locker room, to the organization and all that. So, yeah, especially when jaw is button heads with the. The new coach that you had brought in, by the way, you know, so that. That makes sense. Is maybe as depressing as a return for John Morant is, but at least we sort of. We knew this for weeks, if not months. It like, okay, it's not going to be. It's not going to be very good. When Brian Windorce is going to say he's flagrantly available and there's talk about they might have to add picks. It's like, okay, at least we have our expectations set on what's coming back for him.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Flagrantly available is not a term I've ever heard. No. For somebody out there. But, yeah, I'm with you. A bad return on the court, a bad return financially, but an investment in good vibes going forth in a new era for the Grizzlies, which I think is the big thing. So a new leaf has been turned. Do you think this is good or bad news? SKS for my PSA 9 Ja Morant rookie card.
Je Skeets
I was wondering what you were searching for.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. Literally the only card I've bought at a card shop as a grown man. And I think as soon as I bought it, John Morant was suspended maybe like one second after
Je Skeets
the card ladder price just plummeted immediately.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Yeah. This card actually, believe it or not, flagrantly available for anybody out there. You want this psa ner.
Je Skeets
Here, I'll. I'll trade you a. I'll trade you a Tim Robinson. Allen and Ginter. All right, good. Yeah, I want to get this. I want to get this inscribed somehow by Tim Robinson. I was trying to think if he did, like, a personal inscription, what quote would you want from I think you should leave on this card, we can make some content. I mean, sloppy mud pies. I mean, you know, 55 possible that Shakespeare burgers.
Ad Read Announcer
I don't know.
Je Skeets
We get a lot of options here. All right, anything, Anything else here? John Morant going to the Blazer. Oh, okay. I want to get you on record. Do you think. It sounds like you think there's another move coming from Portland. Do you think it's possibly Jaylen Brown?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I mean, they make sense to me as a place that can give Boston the kind of return that feels more in line with what they would be expecting from Jaylen Brown. Coming off his best season, being a Celtics lifer at this point, won a championship, won a finals mvp, had his best year. Definitely feels like the relationship has come to an end. But we know the Celtics won't do a deal unless it's satisfying some sort of internal requirements. They're going to want a mix of young players, they're going to want a mix of salary cap relief, and they're definitely going to want picks in the future. Not putting any picks into the Ja Morant trade and then therefore making some of your young guys more expendable on your roster, that has to put them in play for Jalen Brown. Because at least now you could be like, look, we got Scoot Henderson and a sign and traded Robert Williams. Guess what, he's coming back. We got a center, we got a young future player who can help us stay cheaper as we go into the next era with Jayson Tatum. I think Portland has to definitely be in the mix. And look, if they're trying to make a splashy start to the new Tom Dundon era, get the seats filled, they're not going to have T shirts over the back of them, but you could go and buy new jerseys. You could buy a John Morant, you could buy a Jaylen Brown. Our team is suddenly a lot more exciting. Even if we had tinkered a little and built a solid, fun, upand cominging team, this becomes a little bit more of a star studded team. And ownership does tend to like that kind of thing.
Je Skeets
Would you trade Denny Abdia for Jaylen Brown?
Trey Kirby
I don't think I would. I don't think I would want. I don't think contracts included Jalen Brown a better player, but Abdia is pretty cheap right now.
Je Skeets
Yeah, I just wonder, you know, there's talk obviously whether Clingan is in said reported deal too, and where you draw the line. Like, I feel like everybody's on board, of course with like, okay, it's got to be sharper scoot. You know, maybe Kamara, you don't want to lose him. That's a great. Obviously, you know, fifth or sixth best guy on your team. You love that idea. Defensive minded guy. But if you're getting Jalen Brown, you got to give up stuff. So it's just like, I wonder where, if this is real, like where the line is, where they say, no, no how. I mean, how badly do you want out of Jalen Brown business Boston, because we're not giving up, you know, player X, be it Clingan or Kamara or obviously Danny of the who they say is off the table, which I believe. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I would like to see a who's more untouchable challenge trade. We're throwing out Jaylen Brown. We're throwing out any sort of matching contracts. Who's more untouchable between Donovan Klingon and Ugo Gonzalez.
Je Skeets
Oh, wow. Wow. I think Gonzalez.
Trey Kirby
These are like two guys who maybe will top out at making two all star games if their careers go absolutely insane.
Je Skeets
Sure.
Trey Kirby
And they're getting as much buzz about their trade availability as Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Je Skeets
Yeah, no, it is weird. It is weird where these, these organizations just draw the line. He's untouchable. And you're like, okay, yeah, maybe he is a very good player. Maybe will be a very good player. But wow, okay, turn down said Said superstar. Fascinating. Well, we'll see. We might as well get off here because by the time we do, there'll be something else. There is a lot of other, you know, team option oriented stuff. Player option oriented stuff. We did a lot of it on this morning's no Dunks podcast. A bunch of stuff has happened since Lou Dort Kaminga, Landry Shamek got paid. He's going back to the next.
Trey Kirby
He got paid.
Je Skeets
Yeah. I thought that was a nice little deal. But we can save all of that for tomorrow. The plan is right now to go live at 5:30pm Eastern for our free agency special. Oh, yeah, LeBron. Is he going to the Warriors? We got to talk about that. Jesus Christ. So we will talk about all of that stuff. Unless there's another emergency podcast worthy trade at 5:30pm Eastern. And we'll take you through right to the actual official start of free agency, though. What does that even mean anymore? It's like no doubt.
Trey Kirby
It feels like we're off and running already. I guess this is pre trades part of free agency. I guess. But what do you think? I, you know, I came Home early. The family stayed back in Illinois to do some more family hangs. But I said, I got a podcast with the boys, I'm going back. But that means I got nothing to do at night as I'm waiting for these trades to come down. So, of course I bought a movie ticket. Gonna go see Jackass tonight. Okay, Jackass. Best and last. But, but skeets. 8:50pm Tip for Jackass. Do you think I'm gonna have to skip it or leave for an emergency podcast this evening?
Je Skeets
I think you're going to be able to comfortably watch Johnny Knoxville get hit in the nuts tonight. I think you'll be okay. I think you'll be okay.
Trey Kirby
That's what I want to hear. And that's what I see.
Je Skeets
Like, outside of something really crazy like an Anthony Davis to the warriors trade, or obviously Jaylen Brown, if he does get moved, it's like sort of you're looking around at the rest of the names, like, you know, maybe the Thunder do something with Lou Dort. I don't think it's going to be emergency worthy outside of AD Jaylen Brown tonight. You're fine. I heard mixed reviews, mixed reviews about the movie.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it's been a long time since I've seen a Jackass movie in a theater, but I did recently watch Jackass Forever, which was the most recent one, and was instantly transported back to the early 2000s and was laughing for 90 minutes straight.
Je Skeets
I enjoyed that one too.

Trey Kirby
Good seats still available.
Je Skeets
It's not sold out.
Trey Kirby
Not sold out. It is the only one that I saw that had more than one seat sold for the day. I don't know if a lot of people are going to the 2:30pm showing of Jackass out of Monday.
Je Skeets
Wow, Fascinating. Okay, well, enjoy the movie again. I think you're fine. Turn off your phone. You're gonna be okay. Tas and I could always hold it down while you're watching Jackass if something worthy happens. Otherwise, back tomorrow at 5:30. Until then, Clipper Bros. You heard it here first.

Trey Kirby
Awesome. Thanks for joining us. And remember, Johnny Knoxville still got it. And I will tell you all about it tomorrow.

Main Topic: Ja Morant traded from Memphis Grizzlies to Portland Trail Blazers
The No Dunks crew convenes for an emergency podcast to discuss the stunning trade of Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Portland Trail Blazers. Skeets and Trey break down what the deal means for both teams, speculate on Portland's next moves, and reflect on the rapid unraveling of the once-promising Memphis core. With a characteristically irreverent and insightful tone, the duo covers the risks for Portland, the new direction for Memphis, trade strategy, and the broader NBA implications.
