I'm ready to elevate my space. It's time to go to Wayfair. I love deciding what I'm gonna change this year. It's a carpet. Getting it out of there, grabbing my leaf blower and just blowing around all the dust. In my house. I usually put a mask on so I don't inhale all of it. Wayfair does make it easy to decide what you want to refresh because it has everything your home needs this season. While I was surfing, I was thinking maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman. Oh yeah, the fluffy faux fur ottoman is a nice footrest. I need one for my living room. I only have a table and my feet do get sore. Look super soft. It's nice and white.
Taz Melis
I can yell at my kids if they get it dirty. I love it.

We've got a fun one today. It's always fun in here. I'm Toss Melis here in the classic factory. With me, it's the man in the middle, Trey Kirby. Hey, hey you. And the man making the magic happen every single day. It's J.D. hello. What's up J.D. we'll get to everything that happened in the NBA on Monday night later. But now we've got a special guest. We've got the Nuggets Spencer Jones joining us. Spencer, what's going on?
Spencer Jones
What's good guys?
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
Thanks for having me on.
Taz Melis
No, thank you for coming on. You're in Phoenix, correct?
Spencer Jones
Yep, yep. Got in yesterday afternoon.
Taz Melis
And it's just past 7am and you're jumping on with us.
Spencer Jones
I like to get up early either way, so it's, you know, it's part of my schedule.
Taz Melis
All right.
Trey Kirby
Rise and grind.
Taz Melis
Yeah, we appreciate that. I want to start by saying congrats on the contract. I know it's been a month since you signed the full on NBA deal, but that is a big deal. And just to give some background because I know not everybody knows how NBA contracts work. You came out undrafted in 2024. You signed a two way deal with the Denver Nuggets last season. Then coming into this season you signed another two way deal. And then February, they said that. Now we want you up here. Forget this G League trip back and forth. You signed the deal in February. So what are some of the ups and downs of having gone through that G League experience now up till this point of your career?
Spencer Jones
Yeah, no, the two way, the two way life's definitely, you know, a lot to learn from. You know, obviously you're, you're typically bouncing up back and forth. I know last year what I counted, I went up 9, 10 different times. Just bouncing back. A lot of times it's really just to, you know, fill the end of the bench, make sure they have enough guys. It doesn't really, a lot of times it doesn't really mean a lot in terms of like, you know, how I'm playing and, and everything. And so it's you know, it's balancing that also, you know, balancing, you know, you don't know when you're going to get your time with the Nuggets. You know, you have to play a little bit differently. You know, obviously you're kind of the man when you're down in the G league and everything out the ball in your hands, you come up play with the Nuggets, obviously, you know, you're not taking the ball from, from Yolk's hands and trying to, trying to fit it in there. And so it's, you know, it's balancing that as well. And then, you know, know, obviously the contract itself is the two way. One's not guaranteed. So you're, you know, maybe have that little worry in the back of mind. You might, you know, you might get cut at any moment. You know, not a lot of the two ways, you know, often, you know, stick around the whole year. You know, that's something to deal with. And so, you know, it was a lot of, a lot of adversity, but, you know, grew, grew a lot from it and learned a lot from it.
Trey Kirby
How did you celebrate when you signed the guaranteed deal?
Spencer Jones
I celebrated by playing the next game. There we go. He was like. It was like, right, what it was like the day before our first game after, after All Star break. So, you know, it was, it was, it was what. I think we officially signed it later, later in the night before the game. And then, yeah, celebrate a little bit. Calm my parents and stuff. And then, yeah, had to play I think the Clippers in LA the next day. And so, you know, that's kind of the NBA life, man. You, you celebrate real briefly and then, you know, you pretty much have a game the next day or the day after.
Taz Melis
Yeah, you've had a lot of games here without. You mentioned Yoke. A lot of the start of the rotation with your guys, you know, but that, that 76ers one is the one that stands out. That's the, the LinkedIn post that blew up. Right. You're battling Joel Embiid because Yoke was out. How, how fun was that, battling a, a large man down low.
Spencer Jones
Yeah, they've done that. They've done that a decent, decent amount of times. Put me at the five so we can play small ball, switch everything and you know, make our offense flow a little bit faster sometimes. But yeah, that game specifically was, uh. I'm giving up, like it feels like £100 to that dude. So a lot of it's just tried to push him out the paint and you know, I mean, obviously, you know, maybe the fact that he's, you know, he's still, you know, battling, was battling pass injuries and stuff like that helped me out a little bit. But yeah, it's like one of the most tired I've been after after the games. Just constantly have to battle with the guy in the post and. But, you know, I, you know, we, we were able to kind of win that game because use our advantage of speed and you know, because we're playing small ball to, to make it happen and like, you know, everybody just came in with, with confidence, came out firing from the jump, making shots and you know, see everybody, you know, on the bench and everybody, you know, put in some, put in some great minutes and each make plays. It was, it was, it was like one of the best team wins. I've been a part of.
Trey Kirby
With Peyton and Ag being down with injuries for a big chunk of this recent part of the season. You have been guarding up and down. Embiid certainly is tough from a physical standpoint.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Who's the toughest guy you've had to guard this season?
Spencer Jones
Gosh, I mean, there's been so many guys. I mean, they've been throwing me on, on everybody. Giannis, just Phys. I don't think I've ever met a guy that, that's strong yet that quick with his feet and that fast downhill. That's definitely something. Usually with my size, like, and I'm quick laterally, usually I have an advantage on either strength or lateral quickness. He was like one of the first guys where I'm like, all right, I gotta, I really gotta be locked in on, you know, my feet, what angles I'm taking. Shay, just the fact that, you know, he really, you know, he loves the, the, the shot that as a defender you want to give up, which is like, you know, a contested mid range, kind of like step back or whatever. Like, typically that's, you know, you're trying to take away the rim. You're trying to shot with like 95% of guys. He's the one guy who excels at that one shot that you're typically used to giving up. And so it change, you know, it's definitely difficult as a defender to kind of shift your, you know, shift your mindsets there. Obviously, you know, Lucas, Lucas, Lucas. Just when you play Luca, you realize why he's so good, the deceleration, how quick he is with that, how great he is with the, with the pump fix and how he can kind of hang in the air a little Bit in the shots to kind of, you know, mistime your jumps and everything like that. It's a lot of little things that you know, obviously can get looked overlooked that really, you understand why these guys are so great.
Taz Melis
Yeah, you've had that big task on the, on the defensive end. On the other side, your shooting percentages have been great. Your shooting form is, has always. Or shooting percentages have always been good. Like when you're at Stanford that first year, you led the PAC 12 and 3 point percentage. I saw that. And your shooting form is unique, Spencer. I think, I think that's very clear. Have you ever altered it or has it always been the same?
Spencer Jones
It's pretty much always been the same. I think, you know, maybe it changed a little bit as the body changed a little bit. But in terms of how it feels, it never, you know, it never changed or anything like that. Yeah, yeah, I know everybody loves to, loves to comment on it. I need to work on it. And I'm like, look, just do a little bit of research in terms of my percentages in college that I literally have Stanford's record for three pointers in a career. And so I just, you know, you gotta let it go over your head.
Taz Melis
People even ridicule you on LinkedIn too because it seems like everybody would be nice on LinkedIn.
Spencer Jones
Most people are nice. I definitely had like a couple, a couple of things that, you know, I don't, I don't look too much at comments either, either way. But it's more jokingly but yeah, LinkedIn's definitely, you know, been much nicer. I mean, look, you got to keep a good profile there.
Trey Kirby
How did LinkedIn become your social media of choice? Like you are the LinkedIn influencer of the NBA.
Spencer Jones
Yeah, it's been, that's been fun. Yeah, no, it was, yeah, just originally started like look, I was coming in, like you said, undrafted on a two way kind of, you know, typically if you look at the numbers, that's not a, not a, the best way to make sure you have a, you know, long career and you know, the numbers are obviously against you. And so, you know, I, I always was looking like, all right, what am I going to do past the NBA and everything like that. And so, you know, I wanted to make sure I maintained the Stanford network that I, that I had. LinkedIn seemed like the way to do so without like individually, you know, having to keep up with texts and do that stuff like that. It was a great way to keep presence of mind. So, you know, that was kind of the Goal of it was pretty much simply just posting, you know, making sure people who I connect with, the Stanford still know I'm around. Just, you know, so I, so when I need them, you know, it doesn't feel like I'm, you know, was the ghost for a while and that was, that was the main goal. And then you know, put up some of the posts like even early on grained a lot of attention. I saw my network grow, growing. And then you know, obviously I've had an interest in the venture capital and invest, angel investing space. You know, that's, that's also, you know, helped me grow that on LinkedIn, get various deals, get in with various VC leaders and other investors and everything like that. And so I only saw it as, you know, why not. Yeah, why not keep this consistent and you know, see where it goes and never imagined the NBA to grab hold of it and you know, for it to get as big as it. Big as it has. But it's all been great for building that off the court stuff.
Taz Melis
Yeah, we don't really track that world so much ourselves. I'd say you're, you're our linked influencer. Me, myself, yeah, sure, yeah. I've always had an account. I've just never been in that space. I never dive in and have, have a lot of fun. Is there a reason that I should be in Spencer? Is there, is there? What's the appeal?
Spencer Jones
Look, I, I think, I think the appeal is like it's got one of the most organic reaches of any platform. Like you could have whatever low following account and have a post blow up and immediately, you know, get several more followers versus like a, you know, Tik Tok and Instagram, their algorithm is typically set to where like you're almost capped with, with certain stuff. So it's organic. But I mean the main thing is like the people there carry far more weight than obviously the average TikTok user, Instagram user. Like they're all execs, people in business. Like it definitely helps with a lot of corporate partnerships and everything like that. Like it just, it just gets you in the right spaces. You want to, you want to be in. So you don't need to necessarily blow up that much. Like what? I only have 30,000, I think followers now, which is, which is great and definitely like one of the top tier. But you know, you equate that to Instagram and people with 30,000. I mean like, you know, people don't, don't look at that as much but like I said, it's the, it's the value of each. Each of those 30, 000 carries far more weight. And then like, and like I said, it's led to a great amount of investments that I've come into. I know, you know, one of them being the shoes I partnered with Andy and you know, part of that came from LinkedIn and I think one of you, one of you two guys tried it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'd love to get your, love to get your thoughts on it.
Trey Kirby
Is that how you got linked up with andeum? It's through LinkedIn.
Spencer Jones
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was, yeah. They reached out to me, they reached out to me via there actually. I don't think I, I don't think I saw it but they, they reached out there and then they actually came because like what summer league last year? You know, I do, I like to participate in a lot of those NBA tech events, something like that. Summer league's a big one. They bring a lot of startups around and yeah, I was taking a meeting with another founder and he brought Alex along and Alex had the shoes with him. I was like, all right, I'll test them out. And you know, I loved more as a product. I looked on, looked at him as an investment later on, but it was just fitting a need that I, that I had. I was and kind of been looking for a shoe. A lot of the shoes I was wearing were, you know, weren't lasting very long and you know, I had some ankle problems in, in college. And so you know, like I said, you're on a two way, you gotta be healthy. You have to, you know, make sure you're always available. And so I needed to shoe that was gonna, you know, make sure I was doing that. And like I said, they're, you know, medically engineered to prevent ankle sprains. They've done great and like I've literally, you know, only used like two or three throughout this entire season, you know, and I'm usually using like five shoes. Like that's, you know, I'm working my butt off on the defensive end. Like my shoes are typically gonna wear out, but they've, they've done the best of any shoe I've done. And you know, I mean, I'm kind of excited to see their new rollout of, you know, I know a lot, a lot of guys have commented on the, you know, maybe a little bulky or anything like that and I'm excited to see them come out with a, with a low top and you know, one that's, you know, other commercially viable options. And, you know, it's kind of great to just, you know, see, see, you know, somebody innovate and kind of the, the space that, you know, not too many people innovate, you know, despite, like, you know, other than like, colorways and stuff like that, but just, you know, more tech being used in shoes.
Taz Melis
Yeah. Our group of guys got a pair and Skeets, who's, Who's not here right now, he's a guard, so he thought, you know, they're comfy, but they're just a little big. To me, like, as you said, some guys put them on, they're like, it's too much shoe. We're showing them here on YouTube, but as you said, you're coming out with a low cut a little later in the season. How do the low cuts prevent ankle sprains? That's my, my curiosity.
Spencer Jones
Yeah. So it's the same technology. You see that, like, rubber at the end. Obviously, you know, they, they aren't as great as the, as the high tops. And the high tops are obviously the best because, you know, I mean, you know how ankles work with the high tops at. Right. Low tops are still better than any other low top option you can get because a lot of it's that, that rubber on the, on the bottom one for more traction and to. The way that, the way they fit it on that kind of outside of the top, upper half of the shoe is where you typically will roll it over, typically on most ankle sprains, outside ankle sprains. And so you still have that with it. And then obviously you have. I don't believe they'll have straps, but they'll have a mechanism to tighten it specifically, even around where the upper, you know, upper, upper part of the shoe is to still keep that secure. And so, like I said, the best options for, if you really have bad ankles, always the high tops. But the low tops is your next best option past any other, any other, any other shoe. And so, you know, like, like I said, it's still, it's still the best option on the market.
Taz Melis
Yeah. And it's light and comfortable. I, I said, skeets, he didn't want to put them on just because, well, he put them on, but he didn't want to wear them in the game just because, you know, he's a quick guard. He said, that's all I got, man. I'm not wearing a, a bigger shoe. So we passed them on to JD who played pickleball in them.
JD
That's right.
Taz Melis
Yes, you did. How are the. I know you're having. I shouldn't say problems with the.
JD
I didn't know problems.
Taz Melis
You have the shed strap issues, though.
JD
Well, I didn't have my reading glasses on. Look, Spencer, I'm an old guy. I'm playing pickleball. I had, I was. I felt like an astronaut getting into these things because my. I, I couldn't read the instructions. So I had my son help. Help me get them on. But once they're on, I didn't find them bulky. Be honest.
Spencer Jones
Yeah, once you put them on, they're actually not. They're actually pretty. Yeah. They don't look as bulky as some would. Some would suggest. Like they're light.
Taz Melis
Not at all.
Spencer Jones
Clearly I'm guarding the best players in the NBA and I'm so they can't be that.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I'm squigging up in them.
JD
I took on Martha and Neil last night and I smoked them in those shoes. I was very, very happy. And we're in Atlanta here where there is a. About an inch of pollen on the court, you know, so everybody's slipping and sliding everywhere. And I was just. I was diving for stuff, you know, with reckless abandon because my ankles were very secure in these things.
Taz Melis
So, yeah, I like them. Yeah, that's why we've passed them around to the group because they are secure. There's no doubt.
Trey Kirby
Lockdown.
Taz Melis
They're locked down. No doubt. Can I ask you about Nikola Jokic's two colored shoes? I mean, I just find it crazy that Yoko would put on two different colored shoes. He just doesn't seem like that type
Spencer Jones
of guy, you know, you'll surprise you on some stuff. You know, I don't think he, you know, cares too much for the shoes he kind of, kind of puts on or anything like that. You know, he'll try out, try out anything. And so. But yeah, no, I mean, he probably also had some influence from some other guys who have done it on the, on the team and everything like that. And so, you know, he's, you know, he's very low key, even kill guy. So, yeah, I can get why any different other.
Trey Kirby
You've been around Jokic now for a couple of years. When you came into the league, he'd already won his mvp. He's already established himself. But what was something to you that stuck out in some of those early Nuggets practices or meetings or something like that about Jokic that kind of blew your mind?
Spencer Jones
Yeah, it's like how much he knows about the, the NBA rules, like a training camp and stuff like that. You Know, we bring out the refs when we're running scrimmages and everything like that. He both training camps, like, especially this one. We were waiting for him on the bus because he's talking to the refs for, like, it had to be at least an hour and a half. Just about all the new rule changes, little things and everything like that. Like. And then, you know, it comes out, obviously, because he makes those smart plays where, like, his fans, you're like, what the. What the hell is this doing guy doing after the whistle? Or whatever. And it's like, sometimes he's stalling a little bit for us to get a little bit extra time or, you know, trying to get a delay game on the other team. And so, like, he knows the rulebook, like, inside and out, and, you know, you know, it's kind of like that thing Kobe did as well. And so, you know, kind of. Which makes. Makes the greats great. Like, they know the game inside and out and everything like that. And so, like, you know, all the stuff that people say, like, I doesn't like basketball or anything like that, it's obviously, obviously untrue. I mean, if you see the guy work and everything like that. But that was. That was something really stood out to me, like. Like that, like I said, waiting on the bus for him to get out. And he was just talking to. Talking the rest of yourself.
Taz Melis
Yeah. So he finds out every little detail about every single rule to. To work to his advantage. Something that I read about you, that Forbes article that you use to your advantage, you got, you know, you're, as you said, tech guy. You get into the stats as well. I saw this about how you play. You said, quote, I can probably tell you 90% of my shots come from about the same three spots on the floor. And so you use that to your benefit, right. That you develop a relationship with a coach because of that. But you also said that it can be a negative. How do you see that as also being a negative?
Spencer Jones
Well, I think the question there was the mindset of how does the engineering mindset kind of help you or hurt you and everything like that. Yeah, I mean, it helps because, like I said, I'll look at it kind of almost like an equation and say, look, this is where a lot of my shots are coming from. How do I tailor this to maximum maximize efficiency and stuff like that. And, you know, like, I feel like my numbers have kind of reflected that a little bit, percentage wise, except for the free throw line. Gotta work on that. But outside of that, like, where it hurts is like, yeah, like as a role player, you don't want to get too locked in on percentages and everything like that. And also like, you know, a lot of the game is also still creativity. I mean, like, if you look at Yokin, obviously, you know, some of those shots cannot be planned, but he's, you know, still able to, still able to make it work and everything like that. And so like it's, it's maintaining that like, yeah, that free flowing creativity while also like know knowing like where your, where your bread and butter is, where you fit and fit inside this offense, especially as a role player. But then, you know, as a young guy, you want to grow, you want to, you know, maximize your confidence and everything like that. And so it's, it's two battling kind of Personas there that you kind of have to, kind of to work with
Trey Kirby
with regards to the creativity. What's it like trying to learn to play with a guy like Jokic who surely is different than anybody you've ever played with? You're going to get passes that you're not expecting. Cuts are different. Jamal Murray, also a really creative player. How do you try and fit into a, a system like that where it just feels like anything could happen at any moment?
Spencer Jones
Yeah, you try to learn the patterns of kind of spacing, like where they drive, where you. Where you want to be and then with yo where he expects you to be. Because like, you know, like I said, it's all kind of like a, A puzzle and stuff like that. Like, yes, he does spontaneous stuff, but like the way offense is, is run. Yeah, like my loud look like we're kind of running plays sometimes at times it just feels like we're getting the ball yoke. It's like, no, we're getting the ball yoke. It's at the specific spot. We expect the other four guys to be in these positions to maximize spacing. And then from then on it's, it's. Once you're in that right position, it's like, all right, what does the defense going to do? Are they going to double yoke? Where are they going to double yoke from? Is it going to be from the top or the bottom? And then you know, you know, based on that, it's like, all right, how do we cut? How do we, how do we move the ball after that first pass? Where do you expect to be there? And like once you kind of learn those like patterns, everything like that, that's where like playing with yoke is the best thing because you'll get wide open threes, easy layups at the rim, you know, stuff like that. And so just being where you kind them, where he expects you to be and just reading the defense through, through these kind of like patterns of movement that we've kind of established as an offense.
Taz Melis
Spencer, we were ready to ask you the same question, but people in our stream team watching on YouTube are asking it. So I got to ask you, I'm sure you're aware of the Yankees prospect that has the same name as you, Spencer Jones.
Spencer Jones
My friends have made me aware, yes. Yeah, but they try to google me that he's. He shows up first. I wonder if that's still the case.
Taz Melis
Yeah, I think, I think it is the case. Check it out yesterday.
Trey Kirby
Depends on your algorithm. I get all basketball.
Taz Melis
Is he on LinkedIn? I guess not that Spencer. Too early. I saw this. We looked at the, the size of that Spencer Jones. He could compare to a Joel and beat. I mean not that, not that big
Trey Kirby
compared to NBA Spencer Jones is what it sounds like.
Spencer Jones
I think we're the same, I think we're the same height and around the same weight to get. I think when I checked it was kind of funny.
Taz Melis
A lot of stats. I want to take advantage of this opportunity here. You know, being having your engineering background at STANFORD, Being on LinkedIn, you know, where to invest. I'm going to just, I'm just going to ask you where should I invest? Where should I invest on simple question. Whether.
Spencer Jones
Oh man, this is, yeah, this is a great time to do all the PR for the places I've been I'm invested in, you know, and stuff like that. But, but like I'll tell you where I like I've been doing a decent amount of research and stuff like that is one is the neurotech space. I mean a lot of, you know, a lot of, you know, everybody's big on health and you know, maximizing the body and human performance and like that. Like the brain is kind of the next frontier and the innovations we're able to, able to get to now are kind of incredible in terms of, you know, initially, you'll see, you know, with neurotech, I feel like everybody imagines the big old helmet that goes on top of your head to get, you know, the brain data and brain signals of everything going on inside. Well now, now the technology's gotten good enough to where like, you know, this specific startup that, you know, builds a, a little chip that goes behind your ear and so you can, you can get all this brain data through Movement and everything like that. And so it'd be interesting, you know, taking the athlete perspective of it, seeing how dialed in we are, what it looks like when we're in flow state, what that looks like inside the brain and stuff like that. So that's something really cool I've been looking at. And there's a couple companies there. And then, you know, obviously AI is huge. But it's interesting seeing, like, where AI is kind of going in terms of, like digital athletes itself, like in terms of, you know, I know Moses Moody did one where he had a AI configuration of himself, basically a digital asset of himself, and used it in a foundation with kids to where, like, they could talk to him, you know, through this, through, you know, obviously it was a digital version of him, but it felt like it was talking to him and it was. I was really impressed talking to. It, had his mannerisms, had everything like that. And so the use of. Use of that would be great. And I. I think, you know, if any of these companies can figure out how to. Because the biggest issue with a lot of this AI stuff in sports is it's pretty much like the governance of it and the data privacy and everything like that. With, like, all right, we have all this information, the athletes, how are we going to structure monetization, governance and all that data privacy stuff in a way that's both beneficial for both the athlete and the league or team or whatever. And so if there's ever, you know, somebody who can streamline kind of that process, make it easy, I think that's, you know, that's a. That's a. That's a big. That's a big target. But those are stuff, you know, you know, within sports that I'm into. You know, it's like I said, not a. I don't know if I have to say, you know, not a professional investment advisor, they usually tell you, but those are kind of the things I'm looking at.
Taz Melis
All right, I appreciate it.
Trey Kirby
One question we're getting from the Stream team. Who do you think is winning in March Madness? You know, we've gone through the first weekend we've seen, and who's looking like the best teams? Certainly Michigan, as far as I can tell. But who do you. Who do you think is going to take it home this year?
Spencer Jones
My. My bet was on. On Houston. I think Sampson's due for one. And then just the toughness was they play, their guard play and everything like that. I mean, yeah, it's hard. It's hard to bet against Houston.
Taz Melis
For me, all right, Spencer, any other questions from the stream team?
Trey Kirby
Well, I mean, I. I got a lot of questions I'm just curious about, like, did you have a favorite player growing up or like, somebody you're trying to model your game after?
Spencer Jones
Yeah, for me, growing up, it was my first, like, jersey that I got was Ray Allen when he was on the Celtics. And then naturally, like, you know, those players that played like Ray Allen. So like, it fell into like, Klay Thompson. And I'm trying to think who the secondary guy was, but those were. Those were the two that, like, early on were the ones that tried to like, model my game after, you know, liked what they did, especially Clay with his off ball movement and stuff like that. You know, like, I was just amazed with like, you know, the 61 points on like 11 dribbles and, you know, how you can be that efficient and not, you know, drip the ball and stuff like that. And so, yeah, like those guys for sure. Nice.
Taz Melis
All right, Spencer, we won't take any more of your time. You joined us literally at 7am local time. We appreciate you coming on and good luck the rest of the season with Denver.
Spencer Jones
All right, I appreciate you guys so much. Thanks again.
Trey Kirby
Thanks, Spencer.
Spencer Jones
All right, take care.
Taz Melis
We will get to everything that happened in Monday night's NBA because there was a lot that happened. But first, a quick word from our sponsor. What's that smell? Oh, it's spring.

Wayfair does make it easy to decide what you want to refresh because it has everything your home needs. This season, while I was surfing, I was thinking maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman. Oh, yeah, the fluffy faux fur ottoman is a nice footrest. I need one for my living room. I only have a table and my feet do get sore. Look super soft. It's nice and white.
Taz Melis
I can yell at my kids if they get it dirty. I love it.

Taz Melis
Who? Who?
Trey Kirby
It's the Michigan Wolverines. They were plus 280 when I wrote this ad read this morning. Plus 310. Now they're followed by Arizona. They're followed by Duke. And let's see where Spencer Jones's choice Houston is. They're in the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Taz Melis
7th.
Trey Kirby
7th. Best odds plus 700. Seems like a analytical, scientific man.
Taz Melis
Yes, Spencer Jones. He's ready.

Taz Melis
It is. When we were going through teams, Houston definitely was towards the top because of their defense.
Trey Kirby
I believe they're a two seed. Yeah, they're good. We've seen them. Do we see him play in the national championship game? No, we went to Houston.
Taz Melis
Yes.
Trey Kirby
We saw San Diego State and UConn.
Taz Melis
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
But yeah, Houston's got a chance. Like you said, Kelvin Sampson has had a lot of good teams. They just haven't quite gotten over the top yet.
Taz Melis
Yeah. And they're playing at home in the
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
first part of the bracket.
Taz Melis
In Houston. That was happening. Right. Sometimes it's always forgettable. Where is everybody playing? Playing? I thought that was part of their
Trey Kirby
advantage, part of the appeal. Yeah, you're probably right.
Taz Melis
Either way, good luck to Houston.
Trey Kirby
I'm pulling for him a little now. Spencer Jones suggested them. He's a full name guy for me. Spencer Jones.
Taz Melis
I agreed.
Trey Kirby
I'm never calling him. I don't know him well enough to call him Spencer straight up and just Jones.
Taz Melis
I don't know. I thought we were really the same. We were really developing a relationship there. I was. I Was almost going, Spencer Spence. What do you think?
Spencer Jones
Spence?
Taz Melis
Yeah, yeah, it was happening there.
Spencer Jones
Yeah, that's good.
Taz Melis
All right, let's get to Monday night in the NBA. Unfortunately, the main story that jumped out to a lot of people was Moses Moody's injury late in the game. It was in overtime against the Dallas Mavericks where he had a non contact knee injury, just going up to throw it down and he fell. And if you haven't seen it, we're not going to show it to you here. Some people get a little queasy seeing the knee displacement. Now, it's not definitive as to what happened and how long he'll be out, but it seemed very gruesome. He left on a, a stretcher and it was covered up as Draymond Green was, was hugging him and he left the court. The Dallas Mavericks fans, I thought it was a nice moment, giving him plenty of love as he left. What were your thoughts, Trey?
Trey Kirby
Well, you could tell it was bad just by the reactions from everybody from the Mavericks fans to Kristaps Porzingis who sees the injury and like throws his hands to his head as he's running back down the court. They cut to Steph Curry. He's got his head in his hands, can't even look up. And if you've seen it like it's a season ending for sure. And it wouldn't be surprising if Moody is out for a long time coming here because things just look displaced on that knee. That's not the way a knee is supposed to look. So it wouldn't surprise me if it's dislocated as well as some sort of tear to whatever ligaments inside there and just. Yeah, it's been a tough season for the warriors and this is just the latest and definitely the most severe looking of any sort of injury we've seen because he was just all by himself. There was nobody, nobody catching him. This was basically going to be the dagger dunk to win things in overtime. Makes a great steal on Cooper, flag up on the left wing, takes it the other way, goes up for the dunk and just couldn't jump and comes down with a bad looking knee injury. Sad stuff for him. He's having his best season of his career. One of the rare bright spots I would say for the warriors this season, and he had just come back from injury as well. I think he had a wrist problem that had kept him out for quite a bit of time, was playing pretty well. This should have been the exclamation point on the night. And it's that it's just a sad end.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Yeah.
Taz Melis
As far as sort of the national media goes. And if you're just following the NBA, you probably didn't see a lot about Moses Moody this year because a lot of the Golden State warriors stories are Seth's injuries and, and Kristaps Porzingis now injured and Jimmy Butler obviously injured. But Moses was having his best year. He is only 23 years old. He was developing into that guy you felt like could have a long career as a 3 and D type guy shooting the best ball of his career. So it is, yeah, just a terrible story. All in all, in a 23 point game here against the Dallas Mavericks as well, you had Kristaps Borzingis come back from his sore back and everything else he's got going off the floor along with Jimmy Butler's injury. And yes, you mentioned Steph couldn't even look at it. And this feels like even though, yeah, I, I, I'm a positive P I deep, deep inside I thought Steph's coming back. You never know what can happen with this team. And he is, he is bound to be back. And if those guys were being healthy around him, this, this definitely hurts. Just not having a guy who's a regular out there despite that wrist injury, he was out there. So yes, all in all, terrible stuff for the Golden State warriors, period.
Trey Kirby
Yep, really bad.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
They have a tough task ahead of
Trey Kirby
them regardless of getting out of the play in tournament because they've kind of resigned themselves to be in there and that's where they're going to be. I mean, we've talked about the Phoenix sun being stuck in seventh for months at a time. It's just even more impossible for the warriors to move up. So they would need everybody to even make a run at the actual playoffs. And yeah, I don't know, I don't know if we'll see Curry, there's 10 games left this season and doesn't seem to be very optimistic with regards to
Taz Melis
him actually coming back.
Trey Kirby
I mean, we'll see. Yeah, they're just running out of time and it's looking pretty futile.
Taz Melis
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
For Golden State.
Taz Melis
Yeah. Yeah. Again, maybe I'm a positive Pete and I see that guy running on the floor and I think they can play with anybody even though you know where they are right now in an optimal situation. I mean, you were, you're getting the Thunder or the spurs no matter what, so. Yes, of course, that's, that's a tough scenario. Speaking of the San Antonio spurs, they were able to smash The Heat led by by Victor Wembanyama who had a great post game press conference after a Great game. Yes, WEMBY, 26 points, 15 block, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks and the spurs clinch the Southwest Division. I didn't go back, but there was
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
a time where I was looking at
Taz Melis
those odds and I kept mentioning it on the show because somehow Houston was the favorite for a long time. And on FanDuel, the Spurs were just slowly, slowly peeking up and with the second best odds to win the division. But they were, they looked great. It's just people weren't betting on them. I suppose the odds makers weren't giving them the respect that they deserve. Either way, they won the Southwest all thanks to Victor Webignama smashed the Miami Heat last night.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, you win 22 of 24 and it's going to be pretty good for
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
your season long outlook.
Trey Kirby
This is their first division title since 2016. 17 if you love division titles, that's just some good information. This was a great Instagram game for Victor Wembanyama because he had so many highlights that were like carousel worthy. I saw the IG clips before I grinded the tape this morning and it's like every time you're swiping it's like,
Spencer Jones
whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Trey Kirby
You get to the one hand pass,
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
which isn't even like a Wembanyama highlight.
Trey Kirby
They throw an outlet to him, he grabs it, whips it to the corner to de' Aaron Fox. He beats his guy baseline, then finds Wemby for a dunk. But just the catch and the chuck out to the corner. Incredible from this guy. Finished with 26, 15, four assists, five blocks. The playmaking was really interesting to see because there were a few times that San Antonio had Miami confused. Two guys would go to Wemby and guess what? It's pretty easy for him to see over Bam Adebayo and Tyler Hero. So he just is easily finding cutters underneath. Really cool to see from Wemby. He's gotten so much better as this season has gone on. He's really progressed. I mean, he's the best defender in the league easily, but he's really progressed on the offensive end to the point now where it's like you think he can do anything at any moment and he's doing a lot of stuff at any moment. Then you mentioned his post game and his postgame press conference. He had a great chat with Jared Weiss in the locker room talking about why he, why Wemby thinks that he should be the mvp. And Jared is kind of like, straw manning the argument, playing the devil's advocate, saying, maybe it's Shay, maybe it's somebody else. Are you the best player? This kind of stuff. But Wemby then takes that energy with him into his standard post game press conference, and he says, I've thought about it. The mvp. I think right now there's a debate. There should be. Even though I think I should lead the race, I'm trying to make sure that at the end of the season, there's no debate. Where's he on your ballot task? 1, 2, 3, 12.
Taz Melis
You got him down 12th, I hope. No, probably not. Yeah, it is a great relationship that he has with Jared Weiss of the Athletic. We got to have Jared Weiss on at some point. But they had such a relationship because when he went to sit and do his postgame press conference, Jared basically said, yeah, we were talking, we were discussing, you know, that whole MVP thing and the debate. What. What were those three reasons that you gave me Wemby? And yeah, he, he said, first, I want this to not be a debate at all. At the end of the season. I want to be the MVP. And also here are my three reasons. First, I think defense is 50% of the game. I think I'm the most important defender out there. The most impactful defender was the word he used. Second, we almost swept OKC this season. So he knows it directly.
Trey Kirby
That's right.
Taz Melis
Who he's going for in Shay, Gillis, Alexander, and third, offense, impact is not just points. So, yeah, maybe other guys score, but I do a lot of things. And that was really evident yesterday as you were sort of breaking down. Like, he's ready to obviously make the great passes, but also call for alley. Oops. Hey, over here. The. The block. The block on Norman Powell, who was trying to use the rim as a defender. He was going to the opposite side of the rim. Smart. But Wemby literally flew through the mesh and was able to block that shot. And, and he. He's aware that he just has to play nine of the spurs last 10 games, so he doesn't have to play
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
every single game, but he has to
Taz Melis
play most of them to qualify and get up to 65 games at least. So he's aware of everything. Shea probably still gets it, you know, in part because he plays more games, plays more minutes. But, you know, I, I love. And, and we've talked so many times about. Wemby knows that it's a team game. He knows where they are in the standings and that they only trail that the, the OKC Thunder. And that comes down to being a team sport. And yeah, maybe I'm not the number one seed, but for X, Y and Z, I should still be there. And next year I'm sure he's going to make it a motivator as to why they should be the number one seed. Tbd.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And I mean, they're the number two seed in the entire NBA right now thanks to this crazy hot streak they've been on. Last time we did a Bon Temp straw poll, Wemby was number two on my voting. I probably would keep him there. I mean, Shea is putting up 32 a game, shooting 55% and has hit a lot of big shots as well for a Thunder team that we've talked about has been banged up for the entire year. So he does. Yeah, like the Thunder are a better built team than the spurs are right now, since the Thunder a little further ahead, way further ahead and where they want to be as defending NBA champions, as favorites going into the playoffs right now. So I think Shea is still the man for mvp, but Wemby will be the favorite heading into next season and I think we'll get a decently close vote, especially considering the spurs, like, they've got the most outside of outside chances of getting the number one overall seed this year. They're three games back with 10 games left to play. You know, it's unlikely that they're able to get three up on the Thunder in that amount of time, especially with Jalen Williams coming back with Hartenstein getting healthy as well. It's unlikely that San Antonio catches Oklahoma City, but I think it's pretty cool that he's at least made it a race and is coming out and saying like, yeah, I do want to win the mvp. Windhorse talks a lot on the Hoop Collective podcast about how because Victor is so thoughtful, thoughtful, he can really brag about himself and say how great he wants to be and everybody's like, yeah, we agree with you, man. You thought about it and you're doing it out there on the court as well.
Taz Melis
Yeah, I guess it doesn't solicit any hate when it's. No, it's thoughtful. He thinks about it and it's well
Trey Kirby
grounded and he backs it up big time.
Taz Melis
But it is great to see two men in the MVP race that are on two teams that are streaking right now. Yes. So it's super fun, the Thunder having won 12 in a row and this is spurs having just won six in a row, but are are ridiculously hot themselves. We'll get to those thunder in a second, but let's jump to the.
Trey Kirby
I like this too. In The Stream Team Flex 1:55 asked at the beginning of the show, how does Wy take a shower?
Taz Melis
How does he take a shower? As in like the shower heads. Too low.
Trey Kirby
I mean they're on the road all the time. These hotel rooms. They don't have wemby height showers for the most part. I did hear on a podcast recently that he has a bed extender that the spurs travel with so that he can fit his entire body onto a hotel bed. I don't know how they would do that for a shower head.
Taz Melis
Yeah, I think they're high enough. Like there's.
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
There's multiple in a hotel.
Taz Melis
I'm not saying the standard is high enough. That's not high enough for Victor. We think the standard hotel process is. We've got a few that are up high.
Trey Kirby
We'll put you in the tallest shower room.
Taz Melis
Yeah, like. Yeah, like high enough. That's what I'm guessing he's used to it. Yeah, he's definitely used to.
Trey Kirby
These are not the first time he's encountered a short shower head.
Taz Melis
Yeah. Imagine in France. I. I imagine he's got to go handheld.
Trey Kirby
You think he uses the wand?
JD
Well, yeah. Be well. French bathrooms are like that anyways. It's all handheld, so.
Taz Melis
Yeah, right, right, right.
Trey Kirby
Maybe, maybe he requests a handheld shower when he's like hell yeah, it's part of his rider. Hook me up. Good to know. Hopefully we'll get him on the show someday and that'll be the first thing we ask them. How do you shower, sir?
Taz Melis
Let's jump to the number one seed in the Eastern Conference that got a good win without their guy who has fallen down in the MVP race. Discussion. Kate Cunningham is injured right now, as we know, with the. The mild lung collapse, as Sham Shri put it, should be hopefully short term. The guy filling in, Danis Jenkins had his career high 30 points to knock down the Los Angeles Lakers and snap their nine game win streak. Danis Jenkins, who would have thunk? Guy we've discussed, we talked with Spencer Jones today. It's fitting. Dan Jenkins, same scenario, 20, 24 undrafted, two two way contracts and now a legit full time NBA contract this season. I can't believe we're talking this much about Dennis Jenkins. How good he's been this season.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's been one of the best stories of the season.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Early on it felt like maybe just
Trey Kirby
a flash in the pan, you know, an unknown guy can Come in and NBA players are so good, even the guys that are undrafted, two way contract guys can score 20 in a game. You know, that can happen a couple of times. But for Jenkins to actually have longevity, work his way to getting a full contract and then, you know, we call the game that he played in In January of 2025, 14 months later, the guy's a millionaire. He's putting up a 30 point game and hitting like a shake. Idris Alexander style. Basically game winner against the Lakers. You know, he gets into reaves his body gives him a little chuck with the forearm baseline fall away. That's a Shay shot. Shot right there went in. The guy's From Dallas, he's 24 years old. Surely he was a Luka Doncic fan at one point in his career. And now he's going shot for shot with him in the clutch and coming out on top. Pretty sweet.
Taz Melis
Yeah. And watching that team, we all say who is going to help out Kade Cunningham in a playoff series, it could easily be Dennis Jenkins. There's, I know we have recency bias and maybe, maybe some people look at this and say now is he going to be able to do that in a playoff scenario? I think he can. I think if you look at last year's playoffs when they went six games with the New York Knicks in a really, really close series, Dennis Schroeder was their second best player. He was their ball handler at the end of games. And a guy like Dennis Jenkins can play alongside Cade just like Dennis Schroeder did. He's not too small. Even though he looks small. You're playing against or playing with a 6, 6 guy in Cade Cunningham. So I think that can work out for the them. It, it all depends. But at an end of game scenario, he may play over Duncan Robinson or Asar Thompson. Probably not Asar. It's definitely Kate Jaylen Duran out there and it's probably Tobias Harris. But you could squeeze in Danish Jenkins to play beside Kate because he can create for himself. He can get to that baseline. As I said, he's just so quick, whether it's a pick up top. But as a secondary ball handler, handler like Dennis Schroeder was. You could see situations like this where he gets the ball and makes shots. 3 Fourth quarter makes for him to get up to 30 points and then finish. Yeah, finish with that last one with Austin Reeves there on the baseline. I mean there was some fun plays where he, the play kind of just exploded and he was just, was able just to take it from way beyond three point line to the rim. So it was just a fun game. All in all there was a reason that line was so teeny tiny. I thought. Now looking back, right, the Lakers.
Trey Kirby
The Lakers were trying to flip the switch and I think they kind of did. They were down like 16 at half. Basically got it all back in the third quarter and it was a shot for shot game in the fourth. Luca had two shots in the final 30 seconds for the Lakers. I didn't think either of them were all that great. The best play the Lakers ran in the final minute was the bucket that Austin Reaves got where he kind of like faked the handoff to Luka, went straight to the hoop and scored immediately. That was before Jenkins hit his little baseline jumper. But Luka was isoed on Kevin Herder ended up taking a weird fade away. And then that was a worse shot to me than the one on Duran in the last couple of seconds where they just were trying to get up a shot to tie the game. Being down three and he just had to chuck up a fade away. We've seen JJ dial up some great end of game plays in the past couple of weeks while the Lakers have been on this streak. And it wasn't either of those though unfortunately last night. So I thought maybe the Lakers overlooked a cadeless Pistons team being on a roll. You see they don't have their best player. We should be able to go out there and give one half of effort and beat these guys. But Danis Jenkins said not tonight.
Taz Melis
Not tonight. Dannis Dennis Jenkins. Such a fun name to say. Yeah baby. That fourth quarter I always wonder who is going to help Cade and I always believe it's got to come from this guy or this guy or this guy. It's got to sort of be done by committee in all honesty. But that fourth quarter to see Jenkins go off to see Tobias Harris be relied on to make a couple key buckets. Kevin Herder threw one in there and the Jalen Duran school and, and Jackson Hayes on that one play with the spin was, was beautiful stuff but it kind of has to be done by a committee. We'll see. Hopefully Kate comes back to lead that team. What's that smell? Oh, it's spring.

Moving on, we've got a couple more games to talk about. Let's stay in the Eastern Conference for that Pacers Magic game. It was a wild one. I I thought, yes, Siakam, 37 points and a game ceiling block on Paolo Bonchero to end it, who had 39 himself. It went down to the wire. Just an interesting couple of teams there on on both sides.
Trey Kirby
Well, like I said, the Pacers are going to get to 20 straight losses. Literally said that on yesterday's show. But in the second quarter, Pascal Siakam banked in a three point and it wasn't even a clean bank where like glass swish. This was glass.
Taz Melis
Rim, rim rim rim rim rim rim.
Trey Kirby
Finally drops in the Magic announcers say, oh, is it going to be that kind of night. It was that kind of night for the Pacers. 37 for Siakam, 16 of 35, 3 point shooting for Indiana and the offense I thought was coming pretty easily. For the Pacers. It was either a Siakam post up, whether at the high post or down in the low post. He was getting into his bag the way he likes to die to do. Or it was a transition bucket or a ton of drive and kick three pointers. The hard dog Andrew Nemhard, 14 assists, had a big step back three with a minute and a half left in the Magic were rallying.
Taz Melis
The Hard Dog.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
The Hard Dog.
Taz Melis
Hey man, is that his new name?
Trey Kirby
We haven't talked about him at all but he came up as a potential nard dog. Yesterday we said no, he's the Hard dog and then he played a great game. If the name is going to we got to use it.
Taz Melis
Yeah, got to use it.
Trey Kirby
We talked about him a lot at the beginning of the year as a potential most improved player. Missed some time this year the Pacers obviously have not had a good season. Hasn't come up on the show hardly at all. But he played well last night. Siakam played well last night. And I'm watching this game. I'm thinking Pascal Siakam was an All Star this year. Yeah, they've got like 16 wins. That's got to be the fewest wins for an All Star. That was pretty weird. But he deserved it. You can see he's a great player and he was great last night.
Taz Melis
Yeah. Their story is. Is amazing to me and that Pascal Siakam is. Is playing all the time. A lot of their guys playing all the time after going to the NBA Finals and they stink. They're just so bad having lost 16 going into this game. It's just such a wild season for them. This pick that they're getting their own pick that they got during last year's Finals. They made the trade with the New Orleans Pelicans to get back their trade their draft pick that they originally traded to the Raptors for Pascal Siakam. It was then traded to New Orleans for Brandon Ingram to go to Toronto. And then the Pacers are, we're doing something financial there where they said here you can have our draft pick for this year, New Orleans. We're taking the 26 one back because we want to move our money back. And that's why they got rid of Miles Turner. Then all of a sudden there were this bad team. But they keep playing throughout the end of the season and that's why they're fun to watch. On the other side, you. You mentioned why it was too easy for Indiana offensively and the fast break points were really the disappointing part. Watching Orlando, for me, that they're here at the end of the season, they're fighting for position and to allow running plays, runs off of makes was. Was wrong. The Pacers are so good at that. Flash me back to watching them a lot in the playoffs when they needed to make something happen. They'll run on makes no problem. And they beat him. 26:14 Fast breaks in this game and then the points off turnovers. Yeah, it was a real up and down game. It started down for the Magic and then they came back. But I don't know, the Paolo Bantero 39, it was awesome. But at the same time their offense just kind of stalled with him and the ball, it just wasn't moving fast enough. So their end of the season here is really fun. I think I know one of our stream teamers here said maybe we're in a scenario where we're going to get what happened to Michael Malone with the Denver Nuggets last year or Taylor Jenkins with Memphis last year where we have a late season firing of Jamal Mosley. I think he kind of gets away with it because they've got Franz coming back and you probably don't want a new coach getting thrown into a job where you also have to integrate your top player or top one, a type of guy. But tbd, it is an interesting one where we debated last year. That or last week. I should say the coaches on the, the hot seat and Jamal Mosley definitely one of them. Just, just a disappointing game.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. We did our coaches on the hot seat draft on Friday and I think you took Mosley first.
Taz Melis
Yeah, right.
Trey Kirby
And I, at the time I was like, yeah, I agree with you that he's a hot seat guy, but he shouldn't be first. But that was because the Magic had gone on a seven game win streak and they followed it up by losing five straight. The inconsistency has been a hallmark of the Magic the entire season. And I'm totally with you. They got caught playing a Pacers style game last night and that's not the style that they need to be playing. They forced hardly any turnovers. Like you're saying it was run out after run out for Indiana. And I even think when Paolo got the ball on that last play, they ran like he was wide open, open. He could have turned an attack that looked like he was caught trying to run the play, for lack of a better word. Like he catches the ball, he turns, he looks, he's trying to get Bane on a cut straight down the hoop, but like there was nobody near him. He gave Siakam a chance to recover, get a body into him and then there was help inside from J. Huff at the rim. So that just looked like an out of sorts game for the Magic. I tend to side on the side of there won't be a firing the last two weeks of the season because it rarely happens. But it happened twice last year so anything is on the table. I think this is a big playoffs for Orlando to see how the pieces fit and what sort of performance they can get and if they can even get out of the play in tournament.
Taz Melis
Yeah, it is an odd one watching a guy who scored 39 points last night in Paolo Bancaro. You know, I, I didn't do the math to see how long that ball sticks in his hands, but I just think at the beginning he definitely, definitely he, he Checks out everything and he takes his time to do that. But I think sometimes that this magic don't benefit from that to just induce a little bit more movement. Either way, he is fantastic. They've got to figure out some consistency. There's no doubt they didn't have Jalen Suggs last night, but I thought Javon Carter was very good for most of the night. But either way, an interesting story there. Let's go on.
Trey Kirby
Carter had two points. Task.
Taz Melis
Yeah, I know.
Trey Kirby
And zero assists. He went one for five.
Taz Melis
Yeah, I know.
Trey Kirby
What part of the night was he good right away?
Taz Melis
He's. He's a better. I. I just like Jaylen. I know Jaylen Suggs. He's missed. There's no doubt, but big time. But. But Javon Carter is way better than anything they had with Ty Jones this year. So, you know, he didn't have a great night. Stats aside, numbers aside, he was a minus 17 last night. Not so good. But it's still. I, I don't. I think the. The excuse of earlier in the season when Jalen Suggs doesn't play, you say, oh, this team just doesn't have anything. I think that's gone to have at least Siobhan Carter know how to run the offense. But overall, like when Tyus Jones was there, we just expect some good shots. Like something he got nothing. I would say Jalen Suggs is better. Excuse me. Javon Carter is better at doing nothing. Then Tyus Jones is better than Ty's Jones at doing nothing. Better nothing guy. Jalen Suggs. I keep on saying James, Javon Carter or Tyus Jones, it's got to be Tron.
Trey Kirby
Somebody's got to have an opinion.
Taz Melis
All right, let's move on to OKC. Jalen Williams returned. Hadn't played a game since February 9th, ninth month and a half off for J Dub. 18.6 assists. OKC winning their 12th straight. Taking care of Philly. What'd you think of Jalen Williams?
Trey Kirby
I thought he looked like Jalen Williams.
Taz Melis
Yeah, he did.
Trey Kirby
Like he was driving, he was cutting. He had a lot of tough finishes through contact. He was playmaking. I think he was maybe 2 for 5 on jumpers, which is, you know, not the greatest percentage, but at least he was taking them confidently. I also thought maybe he looked a little skinnier than he had. And I think of him as a thick, burly guy and he looks pretty trim to me, but maybe it was just because I haven't seen him on the court for a while and he's usually wearing some big Baggy pants. But I thought a pretty solid debut for Williams. 18 points on 8 of 14 shooting. And like I said, he was in the lane. He was looking quick, he was running the court. He was just doing the things you expect from Jalen Williams.
Taz Melis
Yeah, he was really solid. Hamstring, looking good. We were worried earlier this season and he hurt the right wrist and maybe his shooting wouldn't come around. Look, he hasn't had incredible percentages this season. That being said, last year he didn't have a great year either. Shooting wise. His playoffs weren't super efficient, so I'm
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
not so worried about that.
Taz Melis
They still found a way. The guy needs to cut and that's probably the most important thing. Like he just doesn't need to be super efficient every single night, but he needs to come through with some big games and I think he's very, very capable of that. And he's looking, looking solid here in game number one. They probably kept him out that month and a half because they were going to make sure he was healthy and he looks it right away. Any other games in the NBA that you wanted to talk about? Because it was a 10 game night and we, you know, we plowed through five real quick.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it was a big slate after a light slate over the weekend with the NCAA tournament going. Bulls, Rockets was a hilarious game. My guy, big shot Bou. Zealous game came through in Matas March. 23 points. Josh Giddey hit a three pointer. Then he found Bouz Ellis for a three pointer. And then the game ender in my view. A nice take on Reed shepherd where Matas Buzelas, big boy, him got to a lefty layup. That was pretty cool.
Taz Melis
That was cool. The speaking of lefty, the Nikhil Alexander Walker dunk with who was left against the Grizzlies, he impressed him to himself. I mean, he immediately got the camera right in front of him and he was, he was wondering, did I just do that? I mean, that has to be the dunk of his career, I imagine.
Trey Kirby
Oh, yes. I mean, not. Not being able to recall them all permanently right away. Yeah, that was awesome.
Taz Melis
That was so good. Yeah, they, they smashed. They hit 25 threes against the Zombie Grizzlies. That ties their franchise high 146 points.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Points.
Trey Kirby
Wow.
Taz Melis
Yeah. Big, big win against the Grizzlies.
Trey Kirby
Who is number 77 on the Grizzlies because that was the guy that hustled back like he Dejan Jarou. That guy works hard to get dunked on by Nikhil Alexander. Walker and I felt like Walker kind of slowed up to maybe give him a chance to make the dunk look better. That was pretty sweet.
Taz Melis
Yeah, I had to look that one up, too. Like, who is 77? Was that a. I thought at first it was a Javon Small being a little guy guy, but how tall was number 77 out there?
Trey Kirby
Because he looked not quite tall enough on that one.
Taz Melis
Not quite? No.
Trey Kirby
Dejan Girau Giraud, the mustard man himself.
Taz Melis
Oh, I went to school at Houston. Maybe it's Houston's time to get dunked on this weekend. Bad, bad connection.
Spencer Jones
Maybe.
Taz Melis
Anyway, let's move on to the.
Trey Kirby
Hold on a couple. A couple of loves here. Markel Fultz. He's on the Raptors.
Taz Melis
He's on the Raptors. Raptors, baby.
Trey Kirby
Yep.
Taz Melis
10 days.
Trey Kirby
Undefeated in the Markel Fultz era. I saw Skeets tweeted. And I'm sure Skeets was happy to see Ace bailey going for 37 points last night in a loss for the Jazz. Hit seven threes and had a cool celebration. They're all doing, like, the three fingers with. Also across his head with an X. I don't know what it means, but I like to see the innovation.
Taz Melis
Yeah, we discussed that yesterday at. I don't know. It's. It's simple. They like. They like him.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
It just looks good.
Taz Melis
They like that dude. So. Great. Great. End of season, would you say he
Trey Kirby
had 30, 37 points?
Taz Melis
Yes. I mean, he is. He is cooking here, doing well, shooting it from three. That's a lot of points. All right, moving on. Any others?
Trey Kirby
No.
Taz Melis
Okay.
Trey Kirby
None. Others.
Taz Melis
Let's get to a. Oh, boy. Of the night. The stat line of the night. It's fitting. It's a me because it's about composting.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Let's go.
Taz Melis
This is from Henry Owen.
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
Want to share his worm composting book?
Spencer Jones
Yeah.
Taz Melis
Listen. Listen to this quote. There are levels to composting, just like recycling and worm composting, known as Vermi composting, is the top. So Henry's wrote a book about how to start a worm bin. I can't wait to read that, Henry.
Trey Kirby
I'm thinking about getting into worm composting.
Taz Melis
Huh? Yeah. When they. When. When you say worm composting, does that mean indoor? Because that's immediately what I think of when it comes to worm composting. I think it is.
Trey Kirby
You'd bring the worms inside.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Yeah, you could.
You could.
Taz Melis
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I mean, I haven't read the book yet.
Taz Melis
I haven't read it yet either, but You. You're composting outdoors.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Well, it's interesting you mentioned that.
Trey Kirby
I am. I still got my composters outside. But you gifted me a Lomi.
Taz Melis
Oh yeah.
Trey Kirby
Indoor composter. Which just seems to me to just basically incinerate all of my food waste and mix it up.
Taz Melis
Yeah, I think so.
Trey Kirby
But I've been doing that. Been doing it inside, take it and dump it into my compost bin outside.
Taz Melis
Oh, that's nice.
Trey Kirby
That's like two layers of composting. If I throw the worms in there, you can't touch my compost.
Taz Melis
I wish I could say this same. And that's why I'm looking forward to reading this book. I've got some. Some issues. My eggshells not decomposing. My avocado peels not decomposing. Is it on me? Am I not. Not putting enough browns in there? Not enough carbon in there.
Spencer Jones
I don't.
Taz Melis
I thought I was. Not enough air, not enough water. I don't know. But I'll be reading Henry's book. Oh yeah.
Trey Kirby
To start a Worm Bin by Henry Owen. I love it.
Taz Melis
I'm reluctant.
Trey Kirby
We got worms.
JD
Worms?
Trey Kirby
That's the name of the store.
Taz Melis
I'm reluctant to bring worms inside.
Trey Kirby
But Henry, you know, I think most people are.
Taz Melis
Yeah, some people do it. Henry could sway me. We'll see. My wife will hate me, but I don't care.
Trey Kirby
The Whoa boy.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
The worm boy of the day.
Taz Melis
That line of the night is Alperin Shengu.
Trey Kirby
Okay, because he was efficient. Yes.
Taz Melis
33 on 16 of 19 from the floor in that loss to the Bulls to 13 boards, 10 assists, two steals and two blocks.
Trey Kirby
He had a great game, but he absolutely got cooked by Leonard Miller on one take, ball gets kicked to the corner. Leonard Miller hits him with the jab stack baseline for the base. Lamb a jam. A 17 points tying a career high.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
But not the Whoa boy of the night.
Trey Kirby
That one goes to Alperin Shengoon. The goon man. The worm boy.
Taz Melis
The worm boy. Moving on to the pick em for tonight because we had Spencer Jones on the show. I had to go with Denver at Phoenix.
Trey Kirby
It's also.
Taz Melis
It may be the smallest line. If I'm not.
Trey Kirby
We got Chunky Scud tonight.
Taz Melis
No, just four games and yeah, it is the smallest line. Kings Hornets. That's a minus 17 for the Hornets at home. Hello, Knicks Pellet pelicans that could be the best game. Eight and a half, Cleveland, Orlando. They're favored by ten and a half against Orlando. Seems a little big. Either way, we're Doing Denver at Phoenix. You guys both picked Denver, so I had to take Phoenix. I had no choice. Here we've got about what we got six games remaining. There is four or so. There's only a two game difference between yourself.
Trey Kirby
That's right.
Taz Melis
So nothing's going to change tonight because you both took Denver.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, but I mean, maybe we'll pick up a game on you, get us all into the mix here.
Taz Melis
It's possible. It's very, very possible.
Trey Kirby
Sun's been struggling. They won their last game, but we're on a losing streak prior to that. Meanwhile, Denver getting the healthiest they can right now.
Taz Melis
I'll be watching Spencer Jones and see how you. Spencer Jones, see how he performs considering he's in Phoenix and waking up at 7am they don't do daylight savings time there in Arizona.
Trey Kirby
Oh, no.
Taz Melis
So they matched up to the Pacific and it's an 11pm Eastern start, so I guess 8pm Local. That is pretty late for them. We'll see how he does after that. Wake up. So he's taking a nap. I'm sure.
Trey Kirby
I did like that he mentioned that the Nuggets arrived in Phoenix yesterday. We've been hearing a lot about arrival times.
Taco Bell Sponsor Voice
Times.
Trey Kirby
So he's got early wake up but at least he got to relax in Phoenix.
Taz Melis
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Get some good bedtime in.
Taz Melis
Look like a nice hotel room.
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
All right, that's it.
Taz Melis
We'll be back tomorrow again, Four game slate.
Co-host (possibly JD or another host)
So not a lot of games. I don't know if we're dipping into
Taz Melis
the mail bag or. Or something else, but we'll have.
Trey Kirby
Maybe it's a good idea.
Taz Melis
Yeah. We've got some great emails that have come in at no dunks inc.gmail.com so we could definitely get. Get into those.
Sponsor Voice / Narrator
Let's do it.
Taz Melis
But for now, our friends, Clipper Bros,
Spencer Jones
you heard it here first. Have a great time. Turn up. Love you guys.
Trey Kirby
Awesome. Thanks for joining us. And remember, it's okay to bring worms in your house as long as they're in a box or a bin.
Taz Melis
Or bin. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yes.
Taz Melis
I'm binning it.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, you gotta bin it.
Taz Melis
I don't know if I'm doing it. What's that?
Trey Kirby
You're gonna bin your worms?
Taz Melis
I'm binning, yeah. What kind of bottom box you talking? Like just a cardboard box.
Trey Kirby
I wouldn't do that. I would be very nervous about the, the seepage and then, you know, the worm spillage. Of course.
Taz Melis
Yeah. Worms creeping around everywhere.
Trey Kirby
You don't want worms creeping at all. Keep them in a bin. Get a good bin. Get Owen Henry Owen's book. That'll tell you the precise worms to get and the precise bins to get. So you don't get worms in your house, just in your bin.
Taz Melis
This better be a good book, Henry. I can't wait to read it. We'll see you tomorrow, everybody.
Trey Kirby
Bye.
Taz Melis

Jones brings intellectual curiosity and practical advice to the platform (on LinkedIn, tech investing, and career strategy), while the hosts keep the conversation loose, funny, and comprehensive. The injury news (Moody) is handled with empathy, while Wembanyama’s surge and the NBA’s playoff picture are given considered attention.
If you missed this No Dunks episode, you missed a generous helping of basketball insight delivered with humor and heart:
