Hello.
Je Skeets
There he is. Here we are. Hello and good morning to everybody joining us live on YouTube. Hit the like button. Subscribe podcast listeners, five star ratings and reviews. We got some things to talk about.
Tasmelis
How about it?
Je Skeets
And to kick it off, I turn over to the Southern lawyer himself. We got ourselves a trade finally. After months of speculation, the Milwaukee Bucks finally traded Giannis along with Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat. Now the deal. And we'll show it to you here on YouTube. Sort of what we expected all along. If we're being honest though, it looks like all that last minute flirting with the Celtics a little, a little batting over the eyes at Boston maybe paid off even more for the Bucks. The Bucks will receive Tyler Herro, Khalil ware, Jaime Hawkez Jr. Casperus Yakuchonis. Three first round picks, including tonight's number 13 pick, a first round pick, swap and one second round pick. So lots to unpack here. But Giannis, the tenure with Milwaukee, twice as long as Kareem Abdul Jabbar's and he is finally gone, departs as the franchise leader in minutes, games played, points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals. Not bad tasks for a completely unknown back in 2013. Just a skinny kid from Greece and I was like, who the hell is this guy? Turning into a two time MVP champion and now going down to South Beach.
Trey Kirby
It took a year here, but both parties got what they wanted. Giannis got to show his Milwaukee fans, I'm putting my blood, sweat and every drop of uzo into every single play. But if it doesn't work out with Miles Turner, Ryan Rollins and Kyle Kuzma trying to make it happen, I want out. Now he's Gone to a place in Milwaukee where he goes to Miami where they say, hey, this is how we start rebuild, man. I mean Milwaukee did a decent job here if you, you named every single piece there. Skeets, the three first round picks is really important. Tyler Hero, is he important? Could he be re dealt? I, I don't think it's that important. I think the Casporus Yakosonas part is pret. But this is how you start a rebuild and to be going after that for a full year and to be able to get young player draft picks, that's a pretty solid get.
Je Skeets
Well, we'll unpack Milwaukee side of things but I want to ask you, does this make Miami a legitimate title contender? Getting Giannis here before obviously the start of next season?
Tasmelis
No, not a legitimate title contender. I think at best you would probably call them a dark horse title contender. But look, the Pacers when they made the finals weren't the number one seed. The Knicks just won the championship. They weren't the number one seed. It's about peaking in the playoffs and coming together at the right time. And at the very least I think you would say that this Miami team is better than the previous couple of seasons. Miami teams that kept ending up in the play ins. To me this is not a play in team. I think probably top six would be my guest. With a chance to be a top four team. Top four in the Eastern Conference this year you got to get to 53 wins and up. That was Detroit, Boston and New York. I don't think Miami is on their level, but I think they could be in the mix with Cleveland, Toronto, Atlanta and assuming Indiana bounces back now that's eight teams total for a top six. Injuries happen. We'll see who it is. It could very well be Miami. Giannis misses 20 games a season basically at this point and if Giannis misses time, this is a very, very shallow team after they traded away basically all of their depth except for Jovic and Pella Larson. Like when you look at the starting lineup, Davion Mitchell, probably Norm Powell who's a free agent, but the heat can bring him back. Wiggins has this player option, so I think he will be on the team. They might even, he might even decline that option and sign a longer, cheaper deal alongside Giannis and bam, that's a pretty good solid starting lineup. I think they'll be very good defensively. I think there are some questions about what they'll look like offensively with a lack of shooting out there. Like I said, they're Super, Super. Having traded away the majority of their depth in this deal for Giannis. But Eric Spoelstra, he just loves to find a two way player and turn him into a rotation guy. So I think the Heat have to continue doing that. We'll see what kind of shooters they are able to bring in around Giannis and around Bam. Tim Reynolds at the AP was reporting they've been scouting shooters already. Tim Hardaway Jr. Come on down. You can even wear your dad's old jersey if you want to. I wouldn't be surprised to see that one happening. But there are options out there right now. I think that the Heat are a little bit better than the peak of the Bucks could have been. And the peak of the Bucks we didn't see because Giannis kept getting hurt. So Miami, they got their guy. They couldn't keep doing the things they were doing, which is ending up the 9th or 10th seed year after year after year. Sometimes it works out and you can make it to the finals. That happened for them once, but that's not a smart way to play.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it's clear the Knicks and Celtics are at the top and then I think they joined that second tier of the Detroit business. Like Detroit right now it's Kate Cunningham when they sign Jalen Duran, that's what their team is. They're letting Tobias Harris go. So if you can put. I shouldn't say they're letting him go. He's a free agent right now. So if you put that lineup that you mentioned, Trey, Davion Mitchell and then a Norm or a Pelle Larson starting with Andrew Wiggins, Yanis and Bamboo, I mean that's pretty comparable to the Detroit Pistons right now. So I think they are in that sort of second tier right now. Giannis does have to play games. They did. But their team is also changing. You could easily see the Miami Heat joining that type of club. They're a great defensive team. Without Giannis, they should be a dangerous defensive team.
Je Skeets
No doubt. They need shooting, they need guard depth and wings and stuff like that. Like everyone expects the Heat to work out this longer team, longer term deal with Andrew Wiggins here who has this pricey player options like 30 million and then leverage in theory those savings by bringing back Norman Powell who desperately they need on this team. They, I mean he can shoot, he's a high volume three point shooter and Wiggins is a good three point shooter too. So they sort of need to keep these guys. I think that's got to be a part of the plan here. Yeah, but man, defensively, if Giannis is healthy, if he plays, I mean, this is a. That's a damn good defensive team here. That's one of the better defensive front court pairings we maybe ever seen in history with with Bam and Giannis.
Trey Kirby
It is a little scary as to how much space Janice will have to work offensively, though, because there aren't a lot of shooters.
Je Skeets
Bam's trying, but he's not there yet. Point shooting.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's got the corner threes. He doesn't really have it up top, so that'll be different. I think they're going to play DAVION MITCHELL Like 55 minutes a game at this. I mean, they're going to play him as much as possible just because he is a talented guy defensively and he showed that he can shoot that ball. It' I think it is a pretty good match with Yanis de Kubo. But then, you know, we're questioning Giannis's health, which is a fair question. The last four seasons, going into the playoffs, literally since they won the championship, he only got through two of those playoffs healthy, so that's a fair question. The over under. I know the numbers being thrown out there for how many games he gets played, he plays next year. It's like, you know, mid-60s already. Okay, yeah. That's. If you're there with Miami and you got a ton of guys working, maybe that number can go up. But that is a scary thing. And we're asking Andrew Wiggins to revolt into who he was to help win the warriors championship. So there's a lot of questions still with this team, but if you bank on Bam and Giannis, along with Davey Mitchell, it's a great core, and I think they could literally play with the Detroit Pistons right here, right now. It'd be a very comparable series. I do think they're looking for a guy to score as well, desperately. And that's why Tyler Hero in Milwaukee for the long term, I'm not sure if that happens. I think they could literally say, hey, Pistons, you need this guy. He. He would immediately be their second best offensive player. Even if they sign Jalen Dern, it's Kate and him and it would be a good matchup. But the Bucs did well here.
Je Skeets
Yeah. Let's hear from everybody on YouTube right now. What do you think about the Heat and this sort of shift of power? If there has been in the Eastern Conference? You know, I'm trying to think of it as like a Richter scale. It's not like a. It's not like an 8.0 Giannis going to Miami. Part of that, I think, is because we've felt like this was going to be the case for a long time now, but it's huge. And when he's healthy, he's still obviously a top five player in the league, if not top three. But, yeah, you're looking at Mitchell Powell if he's there. Wiggins, Giannis, Bam. And then Larson, Bobby Portis, Jovic. Drew Smith, I guess Fontechio is an unrestricted free agent. And then these other guys that you said TK rumors of Tim Hardaway Jr. I'd bet my ass on Chris Middleton being on the Miami Heat moving forward here. Thanassis has got to be there.
Tasmelis
No, he doesn't.
Je Skeets
He probably will be.
Tasmelis
He probably will be. But if you're the Heat, you don't have to do this.
Je Skeets
He'll be one. He'll be one of those roster spots.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Je Skeets
What does that mean in the Eastern Conference with all these other good teams? Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. We've gone through the starting lineup. Their bench is now it's Pelly, Larson or Powell, whoever they put in the starting lineup. That other person goes to the bench along with Jovic, who the Bucks were happy to not get in this deal. I assume Drew Smith and Bobby Portis, Right?
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Drew Smith's gonna play defense. Bobby's gonna yell at people. Finances will join him to also yell at people, too. Yeah, but it is a thin team. It is a shallow team. That is totally true. They're 18 million under the first apron right now, so they can go work some numbers. Tim Hardaway is a decent one. The other guys who are out there, like a Colin Sexton, maybe, that type of thing. I mean, this team's going to be able to shoot. I think that's all they're doing right now is looking at shooters, and there's. There's capable shooters out there.
Je Skeets
Giannis will be eligible starting January 6th to sign an extension for four years and $275 million if he opts out, or he'll have the three year, $214 million if he opts in. So, I mean, it's pretty. It's pretty similar. I think a lot of people actually think he might opt in. I think he makes $1 million more in that scenario. Hey, he doesn't have to pay taxes there in Florida either. State taxes. Anything else from Miami's sort of side here before we start unpacking Milwaukee? And obviously, we'll get to Jalen Brown and the Celtics.
Tasmelis
Yeah. Bobby Portis is on the Miami Heat. Yeah, Heat Bobby. It's going to be interesting to see him in Heat culture. They have, like, weight requirements. We'll see how that goes.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Je Skeets
I mean, he also sort of feels like he's destined to at some point play for the Miami Heat, just with the crazy eyes and the passion that he can bring. So, yeah, he's there. And Milwaukee, you know, gets off of, I guess, that contract, if you consider
Tasmelis
Bucks fans were very happy that Bobby Portis was in this trade.
Je Skeets
Yeah, it was either going to be Bobby or Kuzma. It felt like being attached to Giannis in this hypothetical. Maybe that was a part of what happened here over these last couple weeks when the Celtics maybe got more involved of like sweetening the pot or having to sweeten the pot from Milwaukee side that Miami had to do. Maybe.
Trey Kirby
But the Heat need guys.
Je Skeets
Traded a lot of guys.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's a capable guy. When it comes playoff time, he performs. He is 31, so we're. We're all looking at these guys ages. Janice is 31, too. He'll be 32 at the end of the season. He's injured that same calf twice and also injured the other calf once. It's hard to say from sitting here, but I guess that the fact, if you're looking at a. From a positive perspective for the Heat, that they can only resign him January. In January, we got some time to see how healthy that.
Tasmelis
Well, they're going to sign. You don't trade a thousand pieces. Fair not to sign the guy.
Trey Kirby
The Quite the. Unless he's injured. You know, that's.
Tasmelis
They're going to sign him even if he's injured. They're going to. They'll shoot him up with whatever the Balco people have invented since. Because the window for the Heat is right now. If Giannis misses 15 games, this team could easily be back in the play in. Yeah, this is a shallow, shallow team.
Advertisement Voice
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. It's a risk. Yeah.
Tasmelis
And I mean, we're talking about the Bucks, and when Giannis is healthy, they're good. They weren't. They were okay when Giannis was healthy and when he went down, they ended up in the lottery as well, which is a fine place to be. And that's where the Bucks are going to be with all of these Heat picks going forward. So I don't know. I think this is. The Heat had to do something. Getting Giannis is awesome. It's the best move they've made since Jimmy Butler, since LeBron, prior to that. But you're getting Giannis at the tail end of his prime, and the tail end, his prime is probably still good. But this is not 2018, 2019 Giannis. So I don't know. I see this as a solid playoff team, and I don't. And it'll depend on injuries and health and matchups come playoff time, because I don't think that they are, for me, they're not top three in the East. Top four, maybe.
Trey Kirby
Well, that's why the Bucks fans have to be super excited with the package they got back to get three first round picks to get young players to see all this come back despite it being something that lasted so long for them to be able to get all that type of stuff. That's a win for them. I know it's not, hey, we got a superstar player back in return. But who are the Heat bidding against? Is it just Jaylen Brown and two first round picks as reported as we'll get to at this point?
Je Skeets
Yes.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, that's what it was at the trade deadline.
Je Skeets
No. A year ago. No.
Trey Kirby
There's a lot of other problems. They waited, of course.
Tasmelis
This is good enough for now.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tasmelis
But if they would have done it prior to signing Miles Turner, prior to waving and stretching Damian Lillard last year, they would have gotten more for sure. So this is fine. What they, what they got. I think the, the first round picks are the big thing here because giannis will be 36 and 38. For those picks that are way, way down the line, those ones could be really nice for Milwaukee. But look, it took 50 years for them to replace Kareem Abdul Jabbar. It could be another 50 years for them to replace Giannis onto Takounpa.
Je Skeets
This trade right now does not include any additional teams. It's a one to one move here, according to Shams. But both the Heat and the Bucks will execute this deal technically on July 6, which leaves like this framework open to the possibilities, the opportunities for other teams to get involved, for this to expand. Basically the Kevin Durant of it all. We saw this last season, right, where it's like sort of looked like more of a basic trade and then it like just kept expanding, expanding. What did it get up to? 7 teams, 17 in the end in the Katie trade. So, like, I bring that up because maybe there is the Tyler hero rerouted to the Pistons or to another team, like that could happen. But right now it's just Miami and Milwaukee. But the choice here, and let's break it down, is like, you know, fundamentally just picking between the rebuild and going with the picks and the young prospects of Milwaukee or being more competitive. If you took the Jalen Brown sort of deal and you had an all NBA player, seems like you think this is the better path for Milwaukee.
Trey Kirby
100%.
Je Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
I think, yeah, you. You tear it down to build it back up. I don't see a.500 team currently as the way to go. And that's what I would see them as with a Jalen Brown led team. And even compared to other packages, like maybe you think that, oh, the Knicks last year would trade Cat to the. My. To the Milwaukee Bucks maybe, and. And whatever picks they had. But this is good. I think this is solid in terms of three first round picks. I don't know what other teams would be willing to offer in comparison to this. So they did well. They had to tear it down. And I do think they'd move Tyler Herro immediately to get something else.
Tasmelis
This will expand. I think Hero, he could be fine on the Bucks, but why? Because they need to start getting draft assets back. They started it with this. They still don't control their own pick for a long, long time. So getting picks in, even if they're going to be late in the first round, which I assume like a Detroit pick would be, would be the smarter move. So I. I'm a. Tess. I do agree that choosing the picks was better than choosing Jalen Brown here, number 13, unprotected in 31 and 33 when Giannis is aging. Those are the best picks that were out there. But the Bucks are the team that finally took this package. The Heat had been peddling this package to everyone. It wasn't good enough for Kevin Durant. It wasn't good enough for Damian Lillard, wasn't good enough for Bradley Beal, but it's good enough for Giannis. I don't think so, but that's what happens when you wait till the last possible minute.
Je Skeets
Yeah. According to the Athletics sources, by the way, the Bucks were very intrigued with the idea of making Jalen Brown their new franchise centerpiece here, but they had serious concerns about whether Jaylen Brown would want to be in Milwaukee. Like, yeah, maybe he wants his own team, but would he want to be there? And I think they were fearful of, like, oh, boy, are we just gonna have to go through this all over again? Like, we trade for him and then he's like, I don't really want to be here and you gotta do that song and dance again. So that's what the Athletics reporters are saying. But, yeah, the Bucs acquire not only the Draft picks. But they're, you know, again, we gotta wait to see what they do with Tyler. Hero. But these guys are all in their 20s, right? These young guys coming back, Milwaukee's gonna pray that one or two of them pop off here. Hero. He did grow up outside of Milwaukee. He is a scorer like the guy's a bucket. Hawk has finished second for six man of the year ballot. Last season. Where was my pick to win six man of the year? Heading into the season? He averaged 11 and 9. Now this guy was in and out of Eric Spoelstra's rotation. I have a lot of faith in him still. I'm sort of excited to see what he can do there. I know he's alongside Turner and they're probably trying to figure out what they can do with that deal. Good luck with that. And then Yakutronis, the 20th pick in last year's draft. So it's sort of like another draft pick. Reports say that the Heat attempted to include Davion Mitchell instead, but the Bucks were pretty insistent on Yakochonis being involved in this. So they get him in the end.
Trey Kirby
Well, I'm sure that the Heat said, hey, technically Jovic, please.
Je Skeets
Well, of course. But he said, no thanks.
Tasmelis
Nobody wants him.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. So the, the, the real questions are, can Khalil Ware develop into something more who can play? And Kasparasha has shown us look good. When he did play last year. He's 20 years old. Saw him in the summer league, he looked like he could ball. So it's really. Hopefully one of those guys really pans out. I think that that's the key. Hamahak is, is there to play a role and is a decent two way player. But it doesn't have a high ceiling as these guys do. Those other two guys do. So it's, it's a hope and a prey. And one of those draft picks also pans out pretty well.
Je Skeets
And they have two picks tonight, right? Right now at least number 10 and then number 13. Although whoever goes at number 13 is going to be wearing a Miami Heat hat tonight. Yeah, not technically done, not official. So that'll be great. Those be good for the photos.
Trey Kirby
And they do have a swapper in there later in 2030.
Je Skeets
They only got one swap. The Heat held on to a swap or two. I guess they added. They could have. So they're like, hey, come on, we can't go that far.
Tasmelis

Look, I think Hero's gone, so it's not even a question for me. I think they traded.

It's so. So.

They could trade Hawkes. They absolutely could trade them before the

season started a bit. Obviously came in as a bit of an older rookie so they'll have decisions with him. I think there's just like there is flexibility here with that this sort of like whether they keep these guys or don't and move them for other pieces and picks or whatever. You try it out here you have new a new head coach in Taylor Jenkins. Like I'm with you guys. Like, I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it felt like you were if you were grading the heat, getting Giannis, you went through it, you talked it out.
Trey Kirby
I don't know.
Je Skeets
It didn't sound like an A from you sounded like maybe like a B to me. This is sort of like I would how I would grade Milwaukee's here too. I don't think it's the best they could have done because they got the timing wrong like a lot of teams do as a superstar when it comes to training them. But it's not bad either Like I've always sort of. I haven't shit on this draft or trade return as much as some people have. I don't think it's garbage, especially with all the draft capital ended up getting out of them and extracting out of them. So I think it's a B as well as my point.
Trey Kirby
If I'm grading this, what's the package that was better 12 months ago?
Je Skeets
Well, we don't know, but the Wolves were involved.
Trey Kirby
Well, we talked about.
Je Skeets
The warriors were involved. Yeah, the Magic, I guess at some point got in the mix. I mean, you have to imagine there was a lot of teams kicking the tires on what it would take.
Trey Kirby
Tires were kicked.
Je Skeets
That's the thing though. But you know, were the, were the Bucks foolish? Like, were they sort of like blinders on, like, we can make this work still? That's what they appeared to think when they, of course they did the load move. Okay. And then unfortunately, tears is Achilles. But then they do the Miles Turner thing. I mean, they, that that to me says they still believed that they could have a winning team or convince Giannis to stay here for the rest of his career. Right? Yeah. Okay, well, that was the screw up because it felt like the writing was on the wall. As soon as Damian Lillard towards Achilles, it's like, okay, everybody, we tried, you know, we tried. Yeah, and we tried. We won a title, everybody. All right. Amazing. And now we. He wants to win a second one. It's probably not going to be here. It sure is. Hell. Are you going to be because of Miles Turner?
Trey Kirby
Sure. Well, yeah.
Je Skeets
Do you think this is the best?
Trey Kirby
Well, probably the best, but when we're talking about the best player. 13 months ago it could have been Cat. It sure felt like. But in terms of picks, is there another first rounder thrown in there? Maybe, but that's all we're talking about, I think. We're not talking about a superstar player. I don't think it's. I don't know. Other than Cat, the Hawks and Jalen Johnson didn't seem to be the one either.
Tasmelis
So all in all, that's actually kind of interesting. That's probably a better package.
Trey Kirby
Probably.
Tasmelis
Like probably the Hawks would have done that trade last year.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, that's the question.
Tasmelis
Send back all of the Bucks stuff.
Je Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
Tasmelis
And Jalen Johnson, that's a better deal than what they got. But if they nailed these draft picks like it, it turns out. Okay. Personally, I don't think Hero, where Hawkez or Yakachonas is going to do anything for the Bucks. But these guys, they get in like 20, 31, 2033. That might be good.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. It's impossible to know with Yakushonas. We haven't seen him play a lot of. He looks capable.
Tasmelis
He was a late draft pick.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tasmelis
You know.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. He. When he's.
Tasmelis
He's.
Trey Kirby
He could be good, but that's where we are. And Khalil, where, unfortunately, he was in the doghouse for Eric Spoelscher. Hey, you're being benched. Okay. Hey, you're coming in the consistency not there with a guy who looks super talented. He goes to a scenario maybe where the brights are a little less light and maybe he can understand how to play.
Je Skeets
You know, brights are a little less.
Trey Kirby
Brights are a little less light.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Randall Deal, you know, at the beginning of the show, same Milwaukee got the train. My. Whatever. We know that Khalil Ware has not been up to snuff. So here he goes. He. I think that may help that where he. He's not playing in a big market, but.
Advertisement Voice
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Is it Khalil Ware or Yakoshonas developing? I mean, it's. It's a coin flip.
Je Skeets
Yeah. What are the Celtics do now? What do you think here? Do they look to move Jalen Brown or do they repair that potentially fractured relationship? If it is. I know we. We sort of addressed this ahead of the actual trade happening, but now what? Because it was offered. He was offered, I mean, Jaylen Brown, these picks. And they decided obviously to go the direction with the Miami Heat, like, bunch of players and bunch more picks. But what do you think here?
Tasmelis
I assume they'll try and patch things over with Jaylen Brown, because guess what? They've done it before. They traded this guy for Kevin Durant. Once upon a time, it's easy to go to your star and say, look, yes, you were in trade rumors. It was for Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpa. It could be worse. You're not in trade rumors for Tyler Herro, you know what I'm saying? So they can smooth things over. The Celtics are still going to be good. When you put Tatum and Brown together, they're good. They can pitch him on that. If you want to win a championship again, this is your best chance. But if you want to be the number one guy again, which is what you said, it's going to have to be elsewhere because Jason Tatum is coming back. And if that's the case, time to start. Hugo Gonzalez. Apparently, they think this guy's the greatest player on earth. He's the new Roddy Beau Bois, the new J.J. hickson. You're going to be seeing this guy's name alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo for the rest of his career. Because we knew this is why the deal fell apart. They wouldn't include Ugo Gonzalez.
Trey Kirby
Oh, he's better than J.J. hickson. He's better than Rodrigue Boba. I had him on my all second team for the rookies, even though he scored, what was it, four points per game. Because he's going to contribute in every rotation for the next decade. Wherever he is, he's. He's that good. He's not a scorer like J.J. hickson was when he was dropping 20 in some games, but he's going to contribute a ton. Rodriguebo also dropped. Did he drop a four? Did he have a 40 point game? Was that the. I think he had 40.
Tasmelis
He had good games.
Je Skeets
Yeah, but they were few and far between.
Trey Kirby
Anyways, Ugo is a very, very solid player. Jaylen Brown is going back to help them win a championship. I think. You think he's getting great.
Je Skeets
Are you guys kidding me? I mean, he might, but we're just going to be doing this now with Jaylen Brown, just like we were doing with Giannis. Come on. They've tried to trim twice, but yeah, and you brought up the 2022, Kevin Durant. Like, he's in that trade A little different, though. I mean, it's before he won a championship, before he was Finals mvp, before he then led a team by himself to totally exceed expectations with Tatum out this past year. So, like, he obviously has a better understanding of who he is as a player and where his, you know, pecking order is in this league than it was back in 2022. I, I mean, I am very skeptical they might try, but this will end with Jalen Brown being traded this summer. That's the thing. I mean. Yeah, I think so, I think so. Because otherwise why are they even, like, I know it's for Giannis, but we just went through all the reasons, like, oh, getting a little old. Oh, he's never healthy, but they're offering up their guy. So, like, I think Brad Stevens at the end of the day was just like, I don't know at this point anymore with the landscape of the east and obviously what's going on in the west and these powerhouses, if, like this has run its course a little bit here and maybe we capitalize, try and capitalize a little earlier than normal when it comes to trading superstars with A lot of deals and money left on his deal to get ahead of it. So I think Jalen Brown is going to be moved here, and I think it will be the right decision. Like, the right decision. Okay, whatever.
Trey Kirby
I don't.
Je Skeets
They're a great team when they play together, but I think the cat's out of the bag here. I don't know, man. I just don't see. Like, this guy's prideful and they all are. Every NBA player is, but especially at the superstar type level, where he was like, what, he finished sixth in mvp. He was damn good. What more can the guy do? But you do, and he's like, you just keep trying to trade him. That would piss me off.
Trey Kirby
If you're Jalen Brown.
Tasmelis
Yeah,
Trey Kirby
well, you win some playoff series, I guess he could do that.
Je Skeets
I mean, they lost a 31 lead.
Trey Kirby
They lost it in the first round. So you want him to go. Does he want to go somewhere else? Just to go somewhere else? Because maybe. Yeah, maybe. We'll see. He's a very talkative guy, I think. I think that's. That's a very. That's something different than a lot of these players. As you said, every one of these players is prideful, thinks that they are the best player. Jalen Brown will go out and talk about it. He'll twitch about it. And yeah, he's. He's very verbal, and every single interview he has.
Je Skeets
Okay, that's my point then. That's my point. That's going to be a lot of noise around this because he's not one to just, you know, be a wallflower by any means. That's okay. That's his choice. Like, there's going to be so much around this, like, as there already is right now, what, less than 12 hours after the actual Giannis trade.
Tasmelis
Yeah, but do you think Jalen Brown is, like, a Jimmy Butler type character where he's going to make it awkward for the Celtics because he's been there his whole career. The guy that drafted him and coached him is, like, in the front office and like. Like, it sounds cool to be the number one guy for the New Orleans Pelicans until you're the number one guy for the New Orleans Pelicans. Like, what's better for Jaylen Brown to try and win in Boston where he's the number 1.5, and when Tatum goes out, you're the number 1 and you still get all these plaudits and accolades. He was the Finals MVP with a healthy Jalen or a healthy Jason Tatum, or do you want to go average 30 a game and finish 11th in the Western Conference for the Pelicans, because that's. The trade they're talking about is, like, Trey Murphy and whoever else coming to Boston for Jaylen Brown, whether it be Herb Jones, maybe Zion. I don't know. It sounds interesting until you're stuck in New Orleans.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. That's why I feel like he hasn't burned the bridge quite yet. There are hot, hot rumors about.
Je Skeets
He hasn't burned the bridge. They burned the bridge. What do we. They. They tried trading them.
Tasmelis
Yeah. But they also don't have to trade them.
Je Skeets
No, no. But he can make it awkward as we've just gone through.
Tasmelis
But do you think he would.
Je Skeets
Yeah, I guess he could. I don't even think he would actively have to do it. It's because it's here now. Now, this is the thing. So now every interview is asked about this. Everything is dissected, Every little shoulder bump, every little. You didn't pass the ball to me, Everything gets blown out of proportion. Now, I think, because we've seen this happen so many times before, so I just think now they're going to be at this exact same playbook, and I think they'll move them. And that's. I actually. I'm not saying it might even be a bad thing, because I think instead of the Giannis, they're going to get, you know, maybe draft picks, more players, which I think they could use. They need bigs and stuff like that, so this could work out for everybody. Jalen gets his own team, so to speak, and gets to be the guy, whoever that is. And the Celtics sort of retool here in what you guys just went through is going to be still a very competitive Eastern Conference.
Trey Kirby
It sure is.
Je Skeets
Very. With the Pacers back in the mix, the Cavs are still, you know, decent. The Knicks are obviously the defending champs, like, go through a bunch of other teams here. So I think he's. I think he will be moved because we're on the clock. It just pivots from Giannis to, like, Jalen Brown. There's always. In this league is like the next sort of, like, superstar to be traded, and maybe I'm to blame.
Tasmelis
I. I don't think Jalen Brown is the next guy who teams are going to be putting into every trade. I think that guy is Anthony Edwards.
Je Skeets
Okay. Okay. Wow. Well, we got a whole other discussion. We'll get to the walls a little bit later.
Trey Kirby
As far as you say that the. The Celtics burned the bridge because they had him in this conversations with. For Yanis De Gumpo. You could also say it from the other side, that Jalen Brown coming out and saying, hey, oh, hey, that was my season. I was the man. We just got eliminated literally 24 hours ago. Don't worry about that. I was the man this year. We just got eliminated. So there's that part. But he's playing.
Je Skeets
What he has said is totally, I think, been completely misconstrued and just like, really blown out of proportion.
Tasmelis
Well, here's.
Trey Kirby
You're talking about him being involved in one trade here in 2026. He was involved in one four years ago. Or talks four years ago. We haven't said a thing about that. Nobody cared about that. He went and won a championship after that. Him and Jayson Tatum are good. Ernie and Bert. One guy likes to talk. Jason Tatum does not. And so it's a nice, perfect little combo, and they're not going to be there forever together. It doesn't feel like they're going to both play their careers there. I get that.
Je Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I got that. But right here, right now, I get why Brad Stevens says yes. Okay, we could. That could be an upgrade. But where else is Jalen Brown going to be dealt for an upgrade? I think that's the only place Brad Stevens is going to deal him.
Je Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
You know, he's not just going to say, f this guy. He was just sixth in MVP voting. I hate him. I mean, it doesn't make sense.
Je Skeets
He is. They will trade him if there's no coming back from this. And he's actually offended. And there's a fractured relationship between him and the front office and that team, not even Tatum. I'm not talking about the Brown, Tatum part. I'm talking about Brown offended enough that he's like, come on, what more can I do? Because, like, you got to remember, Jaylen Brown is looking at this like Giannis is. I think he's saying Giannis is not actually better than me because he's first off hurt all the time. He's older. Limitation. This is what he's thinking, right? This is all. I'm putting myself in his shoes here. But maybe he'll be like, all right, cool, you've unleashed the demon now. You tried trading me. I'll just win another Finals mvp. I don't know.
Trey Kirby
I. I don't. I. It's hard to really decipher what Jaylen Brown is saying. He was saying that literally over the last 24 hours. He's on that track, right? He's training right Now, I don't track.
Je Skeets
I'm not watching his twitch streams.
Trey Kirby
I'm sorry, that wasn't a twitch stream. But you get. You get reshares. Well, it shared as a clip. That's what I mean. Yeah.
Je Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
Come on. You're. You're a social media magnate.
Je Skeets
Yeah. Even I have my limits.
Trey Kirby
Well, yeah. He's basically saying, you guys are firing me up. You're lighting me up.
Je Skeets
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Trey Kirby
Interpret that how. As you want. Maybe it's a, hey, I'm coming back to be an MVP player with the Green and White. You know, he didn't say anything beyond that. But I. I do think he's happy in Boston. I mean, you may. You think that he's basically unhappy and that he's going to take.
Je Skeets
Do you deny the Celtics, Brad Stevens, the team could have been like, they could have shot down all of this Giannis talk immediately. Of course they could have. They could have said, we're not trading Jalen Brown, guys, the guy's an MVP candidate. We want a championship. Like, we like our team. We're going to retool. Like, they could have done all that. And they thought, wow, Giannis. Holy crap. Giannis. Okay, that's fine. I mean, they saw an opening, but that can backfire on you.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Je Skeets
And we debated whether. I mean, Milwaukee was just doing this all along just to try and extract more of Miami Heat steel.
Trey Kirby
Brad Simmons definitely wants to get. Wants to improve his team. He does that. We. He could squash the Derek White to Minnesota rumors that are happening right now. And you could say, hey, maybe they are going to trade Derek White. Cause they do want to sort of tear this thing down a little bit along with Jalen Brown. And you could see him. He traded away Drew, he traded away Chris Stops. Mostly financial. He said, Al Horford, you're not coming back. He did tear down that championship team because he does want to make this a long lens of a good team. So.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, you're right. Jaylen Brown was not untradeable, that's for sure. Like, he was on the docket.
Je Skeets
Oh, yeah.
Trey Kirby
And.
Je Skeets
And I would imagine a lot of teams again with the cost control of him already signed, still here for a couple of years. Like, there will be. There would be a market for Jaylen Brown, I think, like you said, Pelicans. Is it the Blazers? You know, hell, there's other teams that I think would get in the Jalen Brown business if. If he is available, which apparently he was. But was he just available for Yanis?
Tasmelis
Yes.
Je Skeets
Tbd. Any Other. Yeah, Winners and losers.
Trey Kirby
I think that because we've only heard him up for Durant and four years ago and this. Right. It's better players or nothing really.
Je Skeets
Any other winners and losers here?
Tasmelis
TK Portland Trailblazers got to be happy they have the bucks pick in 20, 28 via a swap, in 29 as well and in 30 via a swap. Yeah, those are looking good. I don't think the Bucks are going to make a full turnaround in two seasons.
Je Skeets
Right, right, right. So those assets you're thinking just jumped in value here and those were all acquired in the Damian Lillard. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, I would say they're a winner. I would say. I would say Miles Turner is a bit of a loser here. Just when you think about he left the Pacers after they reached the finals and he signed a four year, $109 million contract with the Bucks. And at the time he said staying competitive was a driving factor in that. It didn't go well their first year, obviously Giannis is injured and all that. But now he's gone and we'll see whether they can be competitive here. I don't think so.
Advertisement Voice
No.
Tasmelis
Probably not this year.
Je Skeets
No.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, if you want to. If, if you weren't on social media, you didn't see the 14 possibility of miles Turner being involved in this trade and ending up with the Los Angeles Lakers. So you can say, hey, Miles Turner's the loser, that he didn't get dealt somewhere else. But I think that is still open for possibility that they move on from Miles Turner at some point. What's the point of keeping Miles Turner around really?
Je Skeets
But at this point it's a big
Tasmelis
contract, though they might have to keep him around.
Trey Kirby
It's a big contract. 26 and a half this year, 27.8 the following year, and then a player option for 29. So are you committing to three years of miles or. It all depends on the team. I think the team has to be really good to say, hey, Miles Turner can be our difference. Like he can be like that little. That little drop to put him over the top. But it's not taking A team from 30 to 40 wins.
Je Skeets
Any other takeaways here from Yanis go into Miami. It's so funny because we've been waiting for this for. It's been teed up for 13 months,
Tasmelis
for months, months and months. But it's still sad. Like the end of Giannis career in Milwaukee is sad. They took him from an unknown guy To a top 75 all time player in Milwaukee. Like you said he's the career leader in basically every statistic for Milwaukee. I mean, Kareem won three MVPs playing for the Bucs, so take your pick. Like, if, if you're my dad, you think Kareem's the best buck ever, but if you're anybody else, you think it's Giannis. And for a while it looked like he'd be a one team guy, you know?
Advertisement Voice
Yeah.
Tasmelis
It looked like he could be a Kobe or a Dirk. And now it's like, is that guy even out there? Nobody's gonna be a one team guy anymore. Fiannis isn't Jokic, maybe because he wouldn't ever like, want to pack up and move.
Je Skeets
I mean, Curry, Curry. Curry is the one.
Trey Kirby
Curry's. Yeah, yeah, he's gonna be a one team guy.
Je Skeets
I, I think I, I would bet on that too. Yeah. But, yeah, moving forward players. Devin Booker right now is holding on there.
Tasmelis
That's true.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
But even then, is there a Cade Cunningham movement at some point?
Je Skeets
Wow. How many years has Kane played?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's played five, right? Yeah. It's early.
Je Skeets
No, it is sad, though. That is sad.
Trey Kirby
Do you think if Shea has a one team guy even though he played for the Clippers? Sort of. Kind of, sort of.
Je Skeets
Unfortunately not.
Trey Kirby
He's a one. Feels like a one team guy. Yeah. As far as winners lose go, you could say the Knicks winning the championship can make Giannis a loser. I mean, if they didn't go all the way, Giannis could have got to the Knicks. That's what we're talking about. Thirteen months ago, he. The Knicks were by far the leader in the clubhouse to get Yanis. That Guba. I think he'll win a championship, so he can't go there.
Je Skeets
It's a good point.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Or maybe if they got destroyed in the Finals, he could be going there. I like Kevin Durant kind of thing,
Je Skeets
but here we are destroyed in the Finals. All right, obviously we got all summer long to keep talking about this and like, I'm with you guys. This is probably going to expand at some point as we get closer and closer to the July 6th or even after there when other teams maybe get involved for some of these players from Milwaukee side of things.
Tasmelis
Stream team is on it. Who won the Giannis trade? 50% say the Heat, 50% say the Bucks.
Trey Kirby
Perfect trade.
Tasmelis
That's perfect.
Je Skeets
Absolutely perfect trade. Just like it was eight months ago.
Tasmelis
Both teams were kind of winners. Both teams were kind of losers.
Je Skeets
Yeah. You know, I agree. That's why to me, this is like A, everybody gets a B. Everybody. Okay, good. Good work. Not your best, not your finest, but passable.
Trey Kirby
It waited until this pick was tradable. This, this one here in Tomorrow, the number third or today, I guess the number 13 pick because it's the same thing. But they couldn't do it until July 6th. So we all get a year to talk about the same trade.
Je Skeets
That poll is really 50 50. That's amazing. It is.
Tasmelis
It is really 50 50, but rounding errors because there's 657 votes. So it can't literally be 50 50. I don't have access to the actual votes.
Je Skeets
Hey, hey. That's incredible. I love that. Okay, well, let's hear all your thoughts as you're sharing them right now in the Stream team. You can leave them below after the show's done and leave them on Spotify, too. Your thoughts on Giannis going to south beach here and the return from Milwaukee and whether they made the right decision going with Miami's package or should have they gone with Jalen Brown and a couple picks from Boston? And what do you think about Jalen Brown? There's all that as well. We'll take a quick break and we got more to talk about in terms

Tasmelis
Yeah. I wonder what the odds were on that. It was a plus 423 for just all of those guys to score a goal. Holland, Messi and Mbappe, they all got two. I would have to imagine like that's probably like 2500.
Je Skeets
It was maybe not that high. But I saw a lot of people made that vote that. That bet. At least according to my social media. There was. A lot of people are like, yep, run it back. Because they had all done it in match day one for them and they did it again.
Trey Kirby
So.
Je Skeets
Yeah, so you're rich now.

Je Skeets
Good. You passed it. All right, if you're just joining us, Giannis traded the Miami Heat. Let's hear your thoughts. Other things did happen last night. In fact, we blew our emergency podcast load on the Wolves trading Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets to move down five spots in the draft so they could resign IO Da Sumo on a reported five year, $112 million contract. The Chicago Bulls ended up swapping out Mogay. No, no, not that one. No, a little up. Yeah. A little to the left. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that Mogay for center Nick. Nick Claxton in the deal. So Claxton goes to the Chicago Bulls. And. Yeah, there was an emergency podcast last night. You guys broke down, talked about it for a little bit, went into it, debated it. It was before the IO news. And then, of course, Giannis got traded. Like, what was it, 10 minutes after we wrapped up? Fifteen, I don't know. It wasn't long after.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And then a hell of a long post on ESPN that. Yeah, that Seams had ready. I guess that's what it all came down to. Sean said everything prepared.
Je Skeets
Oh, God.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, let's fire. That's what it seems like it. Because it's. Yeah, I thought it would be closer to the draft, so we get a little juice. Going into the draft would have been nicer, but, Yeah, a little more in the morning. More. More.
Advertisement Voice
I don't know.
Trey Kirby
Anyways, I guess this is like the Luca sort of. Not overnight, but kind of overnight, you know, pretty close. Like, Luca was announced really, really late. That's the way this was felt as well.
Je Skeets
Okay. Yeah.
Advertisement Voice
Yeah.
Tasmelis
It definitely felt like people were saying, businesses on hold until the Giannis deal gets done. And then a million things happened. We should have been like, oh, the honest trade is coming because business is open now. And this was some business by the Minnesota Timberwolves. This was all business, I think, for the Minnesota Timberwolves. I like this trade less. Even more this morning for Minnesota, once they signed IO Dasumu, a guy I love, he was high on my list of free agents. He is good. $22 million is starter money. He's going to be 27 in the middle of next season. So Minnesota is getting him through his prime years. The Timberwolves had to keep him.
Je Skeets
Yeah, they could not lose him.
Tasmelis
Dante DiVincenzo likely out for the majority of next season, if he even comes back. So IO probably a starter next to Anthony Edwards. But $22 million is a lot for a non star on a team with limited assets. You think back to last season when the Wolves let Nikhil Alexander walk because they didn't want to pay him. And Nikhil Alexander walker is making 14 to 15 million dollars per year on his contract. Is he a better player than IO? Quite possibly. the very least, they're equivalent players and IO's getting what, a third more. And John Krasinski is reporting that the Wolves probably will not use the trade exception they generated from this deal for Julius Randall. They're hoping for addition by subtraction. Addition by addition was also an option, but Alex Rodriguez and Mark Laurie bought the team on layaway and this feels like a cheap move to me.
Je Skeets
You had a different sort of look at this last night during the Emergency podcast.
Trey Kirby
I think I Odo is underrated and we just saw him peak in the playoffs and he didn't have a great role in Chicago. We finally got one in the last few months. So I don't mind that contract at all. Whether or not he's a starter or playing alongside Anthony Edwards or just coming as as your six man like Nikhil Alexander Walker was. Who's a better offensive player? I Odesumu or Nikhil Alexander Walker? I think IO could be a better offensive player. And again, he didn't have a lot of a role in Chicago those first four and a half seasons.
Tasmelis
How dare you say that.
Trey Kirby
So I don't mind. How dare you say I'm either at all. But even before that, and knowing that they're going to re sign out to Sumu, the Julius Randle being removed from that starting lineup was the right thing to do. Anthony Edwards ain't all that happy with what they're building there and they had to do something and that was the thing they had to do. I mean, he stopped the ball during these this postseason run way too much. He didn't defend and insert Naz Reed, who can spread the floor way more than Julius Randall. He can play harder defensively. It just makes for a better starting lap, better locker room, literally. Even if they get nothing back in this trade, I think it's a win for their locker room. Simple as that.
Je Skeets
Yeah, that's what. Yeah, you sort of were saying last night. This. I. I mean, this is the. The plan here. Of course, financial reasons. Yes. To. To keep Iota Sumo, who they had to because of what they traded for him. And they need more ball handling and all that. And he is good. They're saying, okay, goodbye, Randall. And they are leaning into their front court. The potential of Jaden McDaniels and Nas read and you guys talked about this last night. This idea of like, they need to. Those guys need to level up here. Nas Reed, to me is fascinating. This guy's career has gone from, like, underrated, I think, I then think to suddenly overrated to. I'm not sure where now anymore. It's sort of been a wild, you know, swing pendulum swing for him to me. But now obviously they are. They're trusting in him and like minutes, opportunity and all that. And he. He comes through. He's got to come through because Randall, for all his warts, I mean, the guy. Guy is still an innings eater. I mean, at the very least productive.
Tasmelis
And he plays.
Je Skeets
He is.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he was bad in this playoffs.
Je Skeets
He was.
Tasmelis
They don't make it to the conference finals in 25 without him. He was their best player the first two rounds.
Trey Kirby
I would say that one playoff run was by far and away his best. There's. There's no doubt. I think they had to go in a different direction. They had to have somebody who could spread the floor a little bit more. And Nazrid, I get it. Very underrated. An undrafted player who earned this contract, but more of, you know, for lack of a better term, a dog. I mean, he will get after it. He will not get emotional the ways Julius Randall did and sort of get into it where he's up and down. Nasrid will get after it. And we saw his neck take a great blow from Victor Wembanyama. He is a physical player and you know he's going to give it on both ends. And Julius Randall was unable to do that. It just, it just makes more sense. Move those blocks around with Nazride and Dante G. Vincenzo along with Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert. I just think it makes more sense. The ceiling of McDaniels and Nazride is definitely a question. And that could be overrated, I guess. You know, that's totally true, but I just think from the locker room, from an unhappy Anthony Edwards, I just think it makes more sense.
Je Skeets
You mentioned earlier you think Anthony Edwards could be the next superstar name. That's like slyly or not maybe wanting to force a Trade, expand on that.
Tasmelis
Okay, so the team took a step back this season. They made two conference finals. They lost in the second round this year. That is a step back. This is a step back. Losing Julius Randle for literally nothing. Maybe it's a decision by subtraction. All I know is that there's less talent on the Timberwolves today than there was yesterday. Factor in that they don't have a lot of moves they can make with draft picks going forward because they were all in the Rudy Gobert trade. He's aging as well. I don't know how they continue to get better around Anthony Edwards. And the guy has three years left on his deal. They will go over the top to sign him when he's a free agent again in 29:30. They will definitely offer him max extensions the second they can. And it will be Anthony Edwards decision to basically be where Giannis is and say, do I think this team is good enough to get us over the top? That might not be the case in a couple of years. When you look at how the Thunder are set up for the coming future, when you look at the way the spurs are set up for the coming future as well, those two teams were ahead of the Timberwolves this year and I think they're further ahead after the Timberwolves did nothing with Julius Randle. That's the thing to me, like, if you want to trade Randall, fine, use that contract. Use his first round pick and bring a player in. You could still be using that salary slot and instead they're just using it to save money. And I hate it when a team tries to save money when they're allegedly trying to win a championship.
Je Skeets
It also doesn't look great that, what, two years ago was it two years ago when the Wolves trade Carl Anthony Towns for Randall, for Divincenzo and then a first round pick who was Johan Beringer. I mean now Randall got like, it's not a lot now. Now you're like, especially cat goes on to win a goddamn title here. You're like, whoa. So maybe there's something there, some resentment there from Anthony Edwards or not. Who knows? I guess they could still use their non taxpayer middle exception exception to replace Randall as a forward. Go get a forward with some of that money. Who? I don't know. I don't think it's going to be at least at the quality of Randall by any means. I mean, they traded back. That's the crazy part in the draft. And the Nets were like, yeah, I guess we'll take it on. They were one of these cap space teams, you know, a couple of them. I mean, the Bulls with the Claxton part and obviously the Nets here with Randle. The Lakers are the big cap space team right now.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. I don't mind them trading out of the first round where you have to have a mandatory contract. And that take away from your salary cap numbers because you said the non taxpayer mid level Exception is the 14 million dollar 1415 range. Of course you want them to go and plug and play, plug somebody into that salary to help out. But at the same time, I think Anthony Edwards wasn't all that happy. And I think this is, hey, we're doing something for you, but let's see what they can do to actually help him on the basketball court. But I think they do help Anthony Edwards the, the leader and, and the way he looks at his team, I think that it is a positive. I mean, the, the ball was just stopping with that team. Like if you're gonna come, if you're gonna try and compete with the Thunder and the spurs, the ball has to be moving way more. And I think Nasri just fits way better. Is he a, you know, a 20 point game guy in the playoffs like Julius Randall was last year? No, but I think the, the play can be better on that team.
Je Skeets
And as for Chicago and Brooklyn, I know you guys did the emergency pod last night. Any other thoughts on them? Claxton going to your balls?
Tasmelis
Yeah. The Bull's got a center. Like, he's not worth his contract right now. $23 million is ridiculous a price for Nick Claxton, who has kind of lost his athletic pop after some back injuries. He also hasn't had a lot of motivation to play for a bad Nets team. Unfortunately for him, he's now going to a bad Bulls team. So how's the motivation going to change? I don't know, but Giddy's a better setup guy than anybody the Nets had, so at least he'll get some decent rim runs. And literally the Bulls were starting Gershon Yabuzeli at center for the last month of the season. So this is fine for them to use their cap space. Basically saying, we signed Nick Claxton for two years. I think he will be a Chicago Bull for two years. Maybe he gets traded at next deadline, but he's not like a building block or anything. He's literally just a stopgap center. As for the Nets, they're just raising their floor. They don't have their pick. It's going to the Rockets in a swap. There's also less incentive to be the absolute worst team.
Je Skeets
Relegation baby.
Tasmelis
So they're, they're, they're getting, they're getting out of the relegation zone. It's not really going to matter for 20, 20, 27 since they don't have their pick, but maybe for 28 it does.
Je Skeets
Yeah. They only took on an extra $10 million in the deal. They move up from 33 to 28 in the draft. Maybe something. And they do free up more time. Opportunity, I guess for Day Ron Sharp, who I do think they, they like and will get an opportunity to start there at the five. I think they prefer him over Claxton at this point.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And Adam Silver's happy we got parody happening. As you said to the non regulation teams, teams want to win teams that have to get to a salary cap floor. And that's what these guys are filling in. R.A. randall and Nick Lockstead.
Je Skeets
Right.
Trey Kirby
That's the hope that we have Good effort.
Je Skeets
Good bad teams.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tasmelis
And maybe this is what the good bad teams are going to look like because like I don't think the Bulls or the Nets look like a good team, but they both have players, you know, they both look like teams that like, oh, these, these could win 25 to 35 games. And I think that's what Adam Silver wants rather than 15 to 25 wins at the bottom.
Je Skeets
Speaking of potentially good bad teams, on Monday Trae Young and the Wizards agreed to a new four year contract worth approximately $213 million. Yeah, four years. 213 million for Trey Young. Fourth year of the deal will be a player option. Don't worry Wizards fans, no trade clause included in this one. No Bradley Beal type of thing. Young's first year salary is estimated to be 49.5 million, which amounts to 30% of the projected 26, 27 salary cap. The maximum first year salary the Zards could offer him. And then it only goes up from there. We were wrong on this one. We did not think this was the type of money Trey Young was going to get from the Washington Wizards.
Trey Kirby
Well, Trey did say he could get max money and he's a bear.
Tasmelis
He's barely under the max. This is crazy.
Advertisement Voice
This is close.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. This is not.
Je Skeets
This is the max that another team.
Tasmelis
Yes.
Je Skeets
Could have come in and offered like let's say the Nets, I guess in theory.
Trey Kirby
But yeah, we're talking 53 a year over four years.
Tasmelis
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
For a guy who's just traded for CJ McCollum, a 30 plus year old who's never made an All Star game. Plus Corey Kispert, who's on the fringe of rotations in the NBA to get 50 per year. It's an overpay.
Tasmelis
Oh yeah, this is a big overpay. This is a one of the biggest contracts in the league for like at best a star guard. Like the Wizards are hoping he's an all star guard. And that's one of the worst mistakes I feel like you can make in the second apron era in the NBA is overpaying guys who are not true superstars. The Wizards might be able to survive this. I'm kind of thinking just because they don't start getting expensive until 28, 29, that's when Alex Saar and Keyshawn George will be eligible for their first extensions. I assume those are guys that they're going to want to keep around. We'll see if they're still interested in Bub Carrington. At the time he hasn't really distinguished himself. But Sauron George I think will probably get deals and that's when the team finally starts getting expensive. Trey's going to be 28 at the start of next year. They are getting him through his prime. The timeline is still basically intact, assuming they're not going to have to jettison these guys once they start getting paid real money. But I would have liked to see less years or less money for Trey Young, one of the two if I'm the Wizards. But apparently he's got a good agent and once the draft lottery odds changed and once the Heat started thinking about we might need a backup plan, the agency for Trey Young seized the opportunity.
Je Skeets
Yeah, I think you're right. The Athletic reported in recent weeks. Wizards decision makers became convinced that with the new NBA's new anti tanking measures compelling more teams to compete, that Young was going to command maximum salary contract offers from other franchises through either a straight free agent signing or a sign and trade proposal. So they were like, well that's what it's going to cost. We want them, we trade it for them. We don't want to be the worst of the worst anymore. He does obviously raise our floor. We have Anthony Davis. He is still on this team. He's due to make 58 and a half million dollars in 26, 27. But those are like really the only two guys. They pay AD Trey and then it like drops off to Alex Sar, who's at like 12.3 million this coming season. So they're a team that can afford this. But man, this had a lot of people Going, whoa, what?
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Didn't make a lot of sense. He is a top 10 point guard. After me doing my little evaluation maybe, you know, he's about there. He hasn't run a good offense in several years now. It's, it was mediocre a couple years ago, mediocre the year before that. So it's been like, you know, four years since it was a top 10 offense. As much as he tries on defense, there's some size problems there. So that's an issue.
Je Skeets
They think or hope the roster can make up for his defensive shortcomings. No doubt.
Trey Kirby
Right.
Je Skeets
That this idea that he can get back to being that offensive engine and that we, with all of our length and all of our defensive minded guys, we can. We'll cover you there. That's got to be what the bet is here.
Tasmelis
They saw the Knicks win the championship and said we want that. Right?
Je Skeets
We'll take that.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. The difference is Trey ain't all that efficient anymore. He's just not Jalen Brunson. I mean, yes, he doesn't have the handle that's. It's a different player. So yeah, four years is different than three years. I thought this would be a three year. I totally agree because of all these guys and Trey Johnson could be a player eventually. There's a lot of contract extensions they could have in the first couple years. No problem. Pay somebody and he's going to be fun to watch. How many games is he going to play? Is his body holding up like it was at the beginning of his career? It hasn't and so that's a worry. There's, there's lots of worries there. It's a long, long contract. That's four friggin years.
Je Skeets
Do you think people were overreacting though when I saw a lot of comparisons to oh my God, the Wizards just did this again. What they did with Bradley Beal, they sort of done with Trey Young here. Is that, is that too far?
Tasmelis
Well, they didn't give him a no trade.
Je Skeets
Right.
Tasmelis
So that's good. But a four year contract for Trey Young might be a no trade clause in and of itself. I don't. At 30, when we're talking about he's already lost a little bit on the offensive end and if he loses more on the offensive end then he becomes a backup.
Je Skeets
Yeah, it's going to be hard to trade. It's tough to talk yourself into is Trey Young going to be able to provide the value of this contract for the entirety of it? I mean that's tough. That Feels like a no, especially as you get into the back end of it. But this is a guy that just gives you 20 and 10 when he plays. I mean, he's 20 and 10. He's done it a couple of times in his career. Three times. Only 16 players in NBA history. 20 points, 10 assists per game in the same season. And it's like guys to do it multiple times are James Harden, Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson, Isaiah Thomas, Russell Westbrook, then Kevin Johnson, some funny addition there. And Trey Young.
Trey Kirby
Who are the Wizards bidding against? When they're talking to Trey Young about his contract, that's.
Je Skeets
I mean, his agents are saying the Nets are going to offer him or I mean, I guess as it has to be. One of these teams would have been the Nets.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Je Skeets
Yeah. They're like, hey, if you want to get this done, you want to keep them, just give them that and we're good.
Trey Kirby
That's why you get paid to be an agent, because that sounds. That sounds great. Four years. 212. Just sounds like a year longer than anyone would have offered him in my brain. But I could be wrong. I. I thought he was getting three because of his agent and how he hasn't looked like that same guy unfortunately that he was to start his career. He's going to be 28 when next season starts. And he was. As you were saying when we got into it, he. Skeets. He was an offense in and of himself. But it's been several years that he was kicking ass.
Je Skeets
20. Part of the reason why Atlanta didn't want to be the team to have to pay him.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Je Skeets
This type of money.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And we all looked at that CJ McCollum, Corey Kispert package and said that's. That's not a lot for him. But that's a good move in the end because you're moving in a different direction. And now he's 4 for 212. Shake your agent's hand.
Tasmelis
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Good job.
Tasmelis
I mean, welcome to the play in tournament to the Washington Wizards.
Je Skeets
And that's. I mean, that's a part of this. That's right. They're just a good exact. That is good for them. They're just trying to go up a level. Yeah. And maybe that they're hoping. Hey, we love For Trey Young to get us to where the Hawks. Trey Young's were. Teams were.
Tasmelis
Yeah.
Je Skeets
Oh, that'd be great for us. We're in the playoffs. You know, we're playing through. Into the playoffs. Maybe winning a series or two. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And maybe I was I was a little blinded by the front office for Washington has come from OKC essentially. You know, they're, they've come from the OKC tree. So I just thought they'd be a little more slow play. Well, we'll see, we'll see how this is funny.
Je Skeets
They have the number one pick tonight of the NBA draft.
Tasmelis
Yeah, they did.
Je Skeets
If like, I don't know, maybe their fan base doesn't care as much but it feels like they threw some cold water on this ahead of what should be a pretty celebratory night. Maybe still will be. Probably will be if they take the Bancel or Peterson, whatever. But just funny timing with it. It's like, oh God, the Wizards are gonna wizard.
Trey Kirby
And Anthony Davis, his status is swept under the rug for a while. I mean he's, he's a Washington Wizard.
Tasmelis
He is currently a Wizard. Yeah, I'm looking at the, the roster when Beal resigned his long extension with the Wizards. Abdia, second year. Gafford third year. Rui Hachimura third year. Poor Zingus was still around. This is kind of exactly the same now that I'm saying I'm like a lot of. There's some good young players who were around.
Je Skeets
They got the number one superstars.
Tasmelis
They got the number one. That's the huge thing.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Age is kind of the same between Beal and Trey. That, that one was for five years compared to Trey's four. But it's, it's similar because Beal was not the same Beal as he was the first chunk.
Je Skeets
There's no doubt this is a, this is going to be a much better team than a 17 win team that they had last year or whatever they've had been putting together here. 17, 18 win teams like, like, I mean ad whether he's there. Sure. Trey the number one pick. Let's say it's Debanta. Then there are pieces where it's defensive minded guys. Star Koulibaly, Keyshawn George. They love Trey Johnson. Obviously a recent pick, Will Riley. Good old Canadian boy. Always got to have a Canadian. There is Buck Carrington. I guess as, as a point guard, a backup point guard now. You know, it's not brutal. It's not, it's not playoff lock to me by any means. No, but you know, it's better. I guess it's better and that's what they're hoping for.
Tasmelis
And look, this deal looks great. If they draft AJ Debons and he becomes an all NBA player every single year, then we're not caring about having Trae Young on this ridiculous deal because he will be the number two guy and you're still paying to bancet like what, $20 million a year on his extension after that, if the draft pick is good, it's all good.
Je Skeets
Yeah, that's a good point.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Je Skeets
All right, we'll call it there. Why? Because we're going to be back tonight at 8:00pm that's right. Back in the classic factory. NBA draft watch party. US four and Adam Silver and you.
Tasmelis
Us for Adam Silver.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Tasmelis
No, Mark Tatum to be seen maybe?
Je Skeets
No, not. No, no. Tatum, he's Wednesday night.
Tasmelis
Well, yeah, of course. But you don't think he'll be there. You don't think he'll get a little camera time? Yeah, I'm here.
Je Skeets
I don't think so. No. I don't know.
Tasmelis
He doesn't look at the first round as like a dress rehearsal for the second round.
Je Skeets
No, he's done it. He's done it enough. He's like, I got it.
Tasmelis
You're probably right.
Je Skeets
Yeah. Here's the big question though, for us to tonight. I saw our guy Ziller write about this in his newsletter. ABC and ESPN are carrying separate feeds of the first round tonight. Where are we going? Oh, where are the boys going? What makes it different?
Trey Kirby
I don't know.
Je Skeets
Ziller doesn't know where Stephen A. Smith is. So it could play a part. But yeah, I know. Isn't that fascinating? Good for give you a different taste, I guess.
Trey Kirby
I guess I think to me it's, hey, exposures abc the broadcaster instead of espn. Like that's in more homes. That's all I'm saying.
Je Skeets
Yeah, but wouldn't that be. Do you want to. I mean, couldn't that be a more of a generic coverage?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah.
Je Skeets
More sick. We want. Well, maybe we want that.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. I'm not thinking about what I want. I'm just thinking about eyeballs. That's what Adam wants.
Tasmelis
It looks like ABC is going to have Kevin Nagandi. Is that his name?
Je Skeets
Okay.
Tasmelis
Yeah, yeah. Richard Jefferson, Jay Williams and Kenny Smith. Okay, so I don't know what that means. ESPN ESPN feed will be the main set featuring traditional draft coverage.
Je Skeets
Right.
Tasmelis
Legler in for Kendrick Perkins. Jay Billis will be there. Andrea Carter and Bobby Marks in the mix.
Je Skeets
I'm probably more into that one. We can bounce back and forth.
Trey Kirby
I'm gonna bounce back.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I know.
Tasmelis
Legler was fretting about having to come up with draft comps for all these players. He said he doesn't like the draft comps. And then Bill Simmons was like, sorry, I was the one who came up with draft comps. I was laughing.
Je Skeets
So Bill Simmons was wrong in the end, by the way, with Giannis going to Boston.
Tasmelis
Yeah. But he also said they ain't including Ugo.
Je Skeets
Yeah, that's true.
Tasmelis
No way they would do it.
Je Skeets
And he didn't want. And he kept saying he didn't want to Giannis to go to Boston.
Tasmelis
He did say that.
Je Skeets
So he have his own record saying that.
Trey Kirby
So that he didn't want y to go to Boston.
Je Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Cuz he won Jaylen Brown over. Yes. Okay, cool. Thanks, Bill.
Je Skeets
Wonky fit. That's right. All right, we're back tonight. Okay, everybody. Unless there's another emergency podcast and we have set the bar at Julius Randall here for the 26 offseason. Uh, so we'll see of a lot later. Race of the day people. Clip have a great time for you. And we were up very late last night. There was not a lot of sleep. Yeah. T. Any thoughts?
Trey Kirby
Thanks for joining us. And remember, the bar is Julius Randle and now. But it was once Cam Reddish. Cam Reddish, where are you?
Je Skeets
Yeah, we did an emergency podcast.
Trey Kirby
I don't have an answer. Cam Reddish was playing abroad.
Je Skeets
He was.
Trey Kirby
He was 24. 425 was his last season in the NBA. Last year he was playing in Lithuania. I didn't know that.
Je Skeets

Hosts: Je Skeets, Tasmelis (“Tas”), Trey Kirby (TK), JD
In this high-energy episode, the No Dunks crew dives deep into the NBA’s summer-altering blockbuster: The Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo (with Bobby Portis) to the Miami Heat. The hosts dissect every angle: how the trade came together, what it means for the Heat’s title hopes, the Bucks’ direction, and major ripple effects for contenders like the Celtics and the rest of the Eastern Conference. Later, they react to major moves by Minnesota, Chicago, Brooklyn, Washington, and speculate about the next era of NBA superstar trades.
“Giannis, the tenure with Milwaukee, twice as long as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s and he is finally gone … Franchise leader in everything. Not bad for a completely unknown back in 2013, just a skinny kid from Greece.”
