In our new series American Genius, we
B
tell the stories of three great writers
C
who changed the way business works in America.
B
Our first episode is about Benjamin Franklin, who among many other things, was a best selling business writer. Take a listen.
C
He's writing this much later in his
B
life, consciously creating this image of himself. And I do want to emphasize how unusual this model is at the time, this self made man myth. Because you don't want to be self made. It's low class to be self made. You know this idea that we have today is the opposite, right? And it comes from Franklin. Today there is the derisive term nepo baiting. Well, exactly right. And these days it's if you are
C
a billionaire, you had better have a Benjamin Franklin story about starting in a
B
garage, coming up with the idea from nothing. And here is Benjamin Franklin inventing it right before our eyes. This has been brought to you by Odoo. To listen to more of our American Genius series, listen to business history. New episodes release every Wednesday on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts.

B
Okay, a long time.
A
Steph Curry is no longer a sneaker free agent. We'll get into that. But first, the New York Knicks are three wins away from their first title in over 50 years after coming back to defeat the Spurs 10595 in game one of the 2026 NBA Finals last night. To quote sleeper Knicks with a tweet that went viral late last night. Everyone is better than Jalen Brunson until it's time to be better than Jalen Brunson. Cause he was the big takeaway of this game one. After getting banged up in the first quarter, first half a few times with the knee and the ankle. Struggling all night tasks but coming through in the clutch, popping off in the fourth quarter, some timely buckets. A whole bunch of other guys contributed. But Brunson, their leader, was the dog getting the game one victory.
C
They got there because Carl Anthony Towns outplayed Victor Weminyama and, and Jalen Brunson was able to overcome his bad start to this game. He wasn't feeling. It wasn't awesome to start 1 for 8 and 5 or 16. But Carltony Towns, I was wrong. I, I didn't see this coming. His ability to literally out effort Victor Wembanyama, be able to drive past him, be able to play incredible defense. This is year 11 for this guy. And now he's a great defender. People can change. We didn't think that of his first decade in this, in this league at all and I think his ability just to outplay him. Victor Ramanyama didn't start well. It started from the opening tip. Carl Anthony Towns beat him on the tip. When Scott Foster threw that ball up, that was legit.
B
Yeah. It wasn't a stolen tip.
A
I think he was Supposed to let it go a little higher.
C
But Foster literally said he was miked up for this game. He literally said wait on it going high. Wait on it going high. Carl. Dude, wait.
B
No, no.
A
He just grabbed it.
B
He was ready to play.
C
Yeah, you should not. Victor Romanya was mad from the get go. And then you could see it in his play coming down early, putting his back to Karl Anthony Towns, allowing OG Anunoby to come in for that steal and score at the other end. So it was up 8, 2. I mean, Victor Wembanyama took more shots outside the paint than inside the paint. I think that was Karl Anthony Towns defense primarily with obviously some help around him. But you know, four minutes left, he passes out of the post when he had Towns on him. And I think that got them to a point where Brunson was able to overcome everything he was going through physically and just not scoring. But you get to the last few minutes and I was wrong. I was wrong. The Corgi was wrong. The New York Knicks were absolutely ready to play game one more so than the San Antonio Spurs. And I thought it started with Cat without Cat outplaying Victor. We don't get to this point. Now you could say if Darren Fox has a better game, maybe the result is different. Sure, I think Stefan Castle could had a better game, but that's kind of a trade off because Julian Champagne was awesome for a half. Dylan Harper was awesome. Yeah, they just. Yeah, they. They didn't have the, the power to get them to the fourth quarter. Maybe Devin Vassell also meh. Kind of a meh game and maybe he's the X factor. But really I think it started with Wemby.
A
The two stars for the Knicks though like you're saying with Cat out playing Wendy and then Brunson hitting all the clutch shots down the stretch. Yeah, and, and, and we'll get into Josh Hart, I'm sure as well, who was huge in this game and OG hitting timely threes and his defense. But, but yeah. Where do you want to begin here?
B
I mean, this was just exciting. This was a tie game going into the fourth quarter. Brunson was the man in the fourth quarter. I'm totally with you. Towns carried up until then. OG started it off at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but that third quarter run by Towns when Wemby subbed out and he just dominated the game going by Cornet. If they would have a little guy on him, he'd just go and hit the offensive glass and put it in inside the defense on wemby was super impressive. Just so physical with him and zero dumb fouls. Like, if Towns was getting called for a foul, at least it was for a competitive. Like Victor goes through his chest for that and 1. At least towns is there taking the bump. Super impressive, Brunson shot making. Like, I was standing for the fourth quarter of this one. I don't care who wins. I mean, everybody here thinks they're going to dunk on me because Victor Wembanyama lost one game in the finals. But really, I just want to see some awesome basketball. This was came down to it, that offensive rebound into the corner, three from Brunson. Just a killer play to even get to that ball and. And board it.
C
They should have boxed him out. I mean, they didn't get a body on.
B
He got two offensive rebounds in this game.
C
Yeah, Jalen Brunson did. He was fighting.
B
He's easy to lose track of. They got there. Especially like when he takes the shot. You're not expecting him to be the guy to go up and get it, but he made plays when he needed to. And this was just a, like a manly performance from Carl Anthony Townes. He played so, so smart. If Wemby was out on him on the perimeter, Towns would go try and go by him. I mean, Wemby got to a block. Once upon a time, there were times when Wemby was getting the better of Towns. I thought inside, but fearless from Towns to keep attacking, keep attacking, keep attacking. And when the switches were there, he was like, I am the only other big guy who's on the court. You can't ask for a better game from Carl Anthony Towns. You can't ask for a better fourth quarter from Jalen Brunson. But the way this game went, I feel like both teams leave it saying we can play much better.
A
Yeah.
B
In game test.
C
Yeah. Including Brunson. Oh, God.
B
Yeah.
A
Oh, my God. Yeah. I counted five. Let's call them blow bys for Carl Anthony Towns with. With Wemby up on him there either. You know, I think he's up on him because they want to try and take away all that passing ability that we had seen from Cat throughout the playoffs. But yeah, Cat was like just kept blowing by him there on his left. Three of them resulted in layups. One of them got blocked by Wemby. Great recovery there. And then one. Cat sort of got like caught taking the shot a little too early, wasn't close enough to the paint and he botched it. Let's just call it that. So three out of Five. You'll take that. Also, Cat got by Cornet once on a similar play for that. And one layup and again just driving left, left, left. He was a monster. I'm sure you saw his comments too. After the game, talking to the inside crew. Excuse me, Kat. Talking about how he was sort of like at peace and calm in this game. Really talking about how he thought his mother was with him in spirit there and even in the crowd. So he approached it like that. Yeah, no dumb cat plays is the number one takeaway. And just Elite and just him and Hart and OG and Alvarado, everybody just doing enough to be like, it's all right, we got Captain Clutch. And he is never concerned. Jalen Brunson, if he's missed 20 shots in a row. That's. That's not it. It doesn't matter that he has that Kobe mentality. It doesn't matter. And he hit some of the biggest ones. You guys said the one off the rebound kicked it to Bridges. Bridges wisely right back to him. Bang hits the corner three. And then that one on Devin Vassell to basically ice the game. That's like the classic good D, better O. I mean, it was great D. Yeah. But it was just an unbelievable shot.
C
It was super close in that Brunson hit his first three shots of the fourth quarter, then he missed his next four, and then he was able to get that rebound. Bang, home of three. If de' Aaron Fox, that whole thing where he misses a nine footer, I mean, a real easy one, then fouls Mikhail Bridges at the other end. You know, it turns into a four point deficit. Things could go different. But I thought when Jail Brunson got it going was the second quarter when Carter Bryant was on him. That's when he felt super comfortable. I think there was a reason Carter Bryant played four minutes in the first half and didn't play in the second half.
A
Yeah, Brunson scored on him like three consecutive three times.
C
Yeah, basically.
B
But he was also super cold in the third quarter.
C
I thought.
B
I thought it too. Like, when I was watching it back, I was like, man, he's really cooking here.
C
I know.
B
And then he's brick fest in the third quarter. But it doesn't matter.
C
Yeah, he just got. He got confident against Carter Bryant, even though he even missed against Carter Bryant to start.
B
But.
C
But that's what got him going. That just helped him out. Just. Yes, you're going to buy into Jalen Brunson being the guy in the fourth quarter no matter what, no matter where you started well.
A
There was even that clip. It was a great sounds of the NBA Finals. I think it was cat right early in the game going, yeah, hey, the defense is elite. Stay locked in defensively. Our offense will come.
C
Yeah, because we'll hit shots. We sucked last Game 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals.
A
I mean, and like he sort of was right in the end. They obviously come back in this. They're down 14. Like it looked like, oh, we headed for a blowout here. Spurs victory. But, you know, they obviously kept fighting and yeah, the offense obviously started to click a little bit. And you just had Jalen Brunson like in the fourth quarter. Man, the guy's. He's just like the definition of a Doc. And then he's all. Even after the game, he's all upset still. He's like seeking out Scott Foster. Wants to talk to Foster, but he thinks he should have probably went to the line a couple more times. He has fans in the stand. It's just so angry all the time.
C
But yeah, but a couple of his shots literally could have gone in there was that one dance against Wemby guarding him on the perimeter. He danced and got up a. A three in and out. And then in the third quarter, another in and out. So he could have just got luckier bounces, really. I think.
A
So you can see why he had a 61 point game against them. Had big regular season games against them. He can get his shots against them. He doesn't feel like anybody is capable of slowing him with his craftiness and obviously the step back and yeah, if that three starts falling, I mean, I actually thought the spurs were doing a decent job of how they were playing Brunson and steering them into. Into spots he probably didn't want to go to. Started thinking, oh, Brunson might have to hit these threes and pull them like a little earlier off the high pick and roll. But you know, he never really hit too many threes.
C
Right.
A
He hit that one in the corner two for nine from deep.
B
I do have to hit some threes, though. Yeah, I think that's going to be the case. But like he was just out of sorts. I thought in the first half, like he was having trouble attacking Luke Cornett. Like Cornette was messing with his timing. He had that. He tried to create off the pick and roll Cornet, he tries to throw a pass to the corner. Easy steal for Harper next time down. They do basically the exact same thing. And Cornet times it perfectly at the rim. This is not. Wemby inside, it's Luke Cornett giving you problems. And then from every stint after that, not a problem against Luke Cornett, including in the fourth quarter. I thought a brilliant timeout by Mike Brown. Spurs come back, they tie the game. I think it was maybe on a Vassell bucket. Wemby is going to the bench. So Mike Brown calls a timeout, Wemby subs out, Brunson comes in, right, he gets a basket right away against Cornett. Gets to the free throw line in a transition play. It's a four point game now for the Knicks. Wemby has to come back in after sitting for like 45 seconds. And he definitely ran out of gas. It felt like towards the end of the fourth quarter. I mean, Wemby played his best quarter in the fourth quarter, but it was so up and down for him. Like he hits that big three. Richard Jefferson is saying this is a crucial time for the San Antonio spurs to shut him up immediately. But then the very next possession, the dude bricks it off the top of the corner of the backboard. Paul George style. So Wemby was just up and down. And I think that, you know, afterwards he's like, I don't have to adjust to anything. I just have to play better. I think a lot of that is true. Like, we're talking about more shots from the outside than the inside. Part of that is. Cause he was getting fouled going to the free throw line. But I think the Knicks are willing to live with that. They're like, if we can be physical, if we can make him feel uncomfortable, we'll send him to the line 12 times a game. Because it's going to be not fun for him to come inside.
A
Yeah, and they're going to be happy with the six turnovers that they generated on two.
B
I mean, two of them were Wemby's fault. He dribbled off his knee once and then the huge one off his foot. Foot late in the quarter.
C
That one went off town's foot. I'm convinced. I watched it. 6,057 seconds left. It's four point game, and he's got cat right in front of him. And Breen says he. It went off his foot. You know, off his foot basically is what he said. It went off town's foot, but you couldn't call it a kick ball because
A
he just dribbled it off him.
C
It was just there. Yeah, it's totally true. They were. They were doing a good job of keeping him out of the paint. There's no doubt this Was just super physical game. I totally get why you're standing and watching because it's just super fun.
A
So good.
C
Yeah, even I, I thought the spurs, what they did well with Jalen Brunson was really get into his space, not allow him to start dancing. They got physical initially that first hit, bang. And then they're. They descend a little bit and. And take away his space a little bit and take away his rhythm. But that's what they did and that's why Brunson was off. But he'll adjust the game too. I think he'll just, he'll just feel
A
better within this game like you're saying. So why wouldn't he continue in the series? I also thought, awesome from the Knicks when they were down 14. There were a few examples that came to mind early in the fourth quarter. Shot clock winding down. Cat, I guess this is the third quarter. Excuse me. The shot clock was winding down. Cat knew it. Like he sort of got handed a bit of a grenade on the three point line. Was like he looked up. Oh, okay. Five seconds left. So he had to throw up a shot under pressure. Sort of a rough attempt. But he didn't give up on the play. OG Crashed in as well and they ended up keeping the possession. It went off the spurs. So the Knicks got it. What did they do immediately on the slob the sidelines out of bounds. That was the sham, that one where he broke free layup. So it's like one of those, like, oh man, we just bought ourselves another chance here. Scored a player too. Later, OG Crashed the glass off of Jose Alvarado. Missed three. He got pushed in the back from Fox. So the Knicks get another crack at it. What happens? Knicks get into their action. You know, ball moves around. OG Drives for a layup with the shot clock expiring. It's like those little tiny plays that don't even really show up in the box score. One being a foul, one just being it out on the Spurs. They got another chance, all because of hustle. And then Josh Hart, let's get into him. I mean, what an insane rebound and save with like, what was that?250 to go in the game. The guy has 15 rebounds. He's one of the shorter guys out there. And it's just like a classic Josh Hart box score where it's like he didn't barely score it at all. Hit one shot. Everything else he contributed and is one of the biggest, or he was the biggest plus minus guy that he.
B
Yeah, the rebounding was good, but I thought the way he kept the ball moving was even more important for the Knicks. Like, I mean, credit to him getting busy on the offensive glass. The defensive rebounding was good, but anytime he was catching the ball, he wasn't going to attack Wemby inside, but he would just keep dribbling across the lane and find a guy in the corner. That's how he ends up with six assists. He was very smart in. As soon as he touches it, I'm not hesitating at all. It's not going to be a shot going up, but it's going to be something to keep the offense ticking. And that's exactly what New York Nick. Because the Knicks needed. Because there were definitely times I thought specifically in the first half into the third quarter as well where the Knicks offense just looked like completely different than we've seen throughout this playoffs. They're obviously playing a better defensive team than they played so far in any round. Stuck in the mud. But when Hart can just keep the offense going, keep it swirling from side to side, that's when the Knicks are able to kind of unlock some backdoor kind of stuff.
A
And he picked up a third foul in the first half there. And you saw Hart, he went right to Mike Brown and that, that coaching sideline like, no, do not take me out. I'm fine. I'll figure this out. I'll manage this first half at least and not try and pick up another one. Yeah, they kept him out there.
C
He was fiery. He said Brunson fiery after the game. This guy was fiery because the calls did not go his way. I thought one. And against Stefan Castle inside, not a foul, but was called on him. We've seen Hart get super mad before, but he needed to be on the floor in the last few minutes for them to win and it obviously paid off. He came up with some monstrous plays, the ones you mentioned. And even earlier in that Midway through the 4up4, you know that one where Harper goes to the corner and Vassell tries to save it to Wemby and it looks like the biggest man on the floor is going to get the ball. But Hart comes in and steals it and they go on the run and mean that poke From Fox at 5:20 left when was an eight point game. So many good plays, so three points, 15 rebounds, six assists for that guy. The fewest points in a finals game while putting out 15 boards and 6 assists ever. We go back to the Bill Russell years when he did some a lot of similar stuff, but he had five points in, in his fewest points game. He did it a billion times. Bill Russell had a five point game, six point game, eight point game, nine point game, and another nine point game where he had 15 boards and six assists. Hart was doing that just coming through. It's great to see him continue to stay on the floor. He was so good and I loved him going at Wemby. Even though Wemby blocked his ass. It was that heart, you know, pun intended, was really important. Those plays were so big down the stretch.
A
That's the one where he like put his shoulder into Wemby and tried to like, obviously bounce him back. But Wemby still gobbled it up.
C
Yeah, but he didn't hit a three in this game. And we talked about it. It wasn't an issue for them.
A
Yep. What else? I mean, OG hit those big three
B
first four minutes of the fourth quarter. Absolutely needed them. And that four jabber on Wendy, I was like, he's not gonna jab step again, Is he?
A
Spamming the jazz step button.
B
Hilarious, man. I guess he's just waiting for that big finger to tick down just a tiny little bit. Jacked it over the top of an Alvarado. A huge spark in the first half. I thought he cracked the code on Wemby. Don't even try and make the shot. Just try and hit the back.
A
Oh, so smart. Yeah, that was pretty. That reverse where he's like, I'll just get it on the glass and then he'll block it because he's going to go and try and block everything. Decent little strategy to try and implement against Wemby's like, shock blocking. Just put it to the glass. Don't even try and shoot it in, really. And then Landry Shamek, you know, not 11 for 12 like he was in the conference finals, but what was he? 3 of 6 From deep in this one. Letting it rip again. And he's hustling his ass off defensively, too, as every guy is out there for the Knicks right now.
C
Spurs love going at him, though. Spurs in the first half. I mean, a lot of it was Dylan Harper who was scorching hot, but Landry Shamit was -16 in the first half. He got beat by 16 points. A lot because they just, they go at him. They love that matchup. So I. I will watch the minutes of him. I think that if they can, they'll keep him off the floor at times, especially against Dylan Harper. Man, what a game from that guy.
B
That guy should have been on the court in the fourth quarter.
A
Yeah, yeah, that's A lot of people are wondering. I mean there was. He was out there in that one stretch and that's sort of when it got sort of out of that. That was the Knicks run. But yeah, with the game that Fox was having, who just couldn't buy a bucket again. And these other guys like Devin Wasell. Quiet game, you know Castle. Yeah, sort of quiet, honestly. So it's like, why not go with the guy who was feeling very confident and. And was like, you know how to bounce to him for sure. In Dylan Harper. It was probably a, an oversight, I think from Mitch.
B
Yeah, 10 points in his first six minutes for Harper and then he definitely cooled off in the second half. But he's giving you rebounding. And now Fox was getting after on the glass as well. But Fox had one basket in the half court in this game. The other two that he had were on fast breaks. One of them a complete botch and one of them a nice play. But he had his pocket picked with five minutes left. He obviously had that big miss with a minute and a half left. And the spurs down too. That was a wide open jumper.
A
Yeah.
B
Inside the free throw line. That's got to be a make. But the guy, as you hear every time you see him dribble the ball in the fourth quarter, he was a clutch player of the year. He's made a bunch of clutch shots. That's literally why they brought him to San Antonio, is to take those shots. So understandable that in game one of the finals, Mitch Johnson is going to try and ride with the veteran. But also Harper's not going to have games like this every single night. He's 20 years old, so I think he kind of got to ride the hot hand when he's playing that well and Fox isn't playing that well. Like there's going to be opportunities for both of them throughout this series. That seemed like a Harper moment to me.
C
Yeah, I could totally get that. Cause Fox, he had as many baskets as he did turnovers in this game. That was the widest of open shots with 1:30 left. So open. And it would have been a tie game.
A
Yep.
C
If he hits it. Otherwise they go down the other direction. That's the Fon Castle. The lights were a little too bright for him to start the game cuz he missed the bunniest of bunnies. It was just him in an empty arena that he. And he decided from the left side of the floor, left side of the rim to shoot it with his left hand. But there's nobody there. He could have Easily gone up and dunked it. Then he missed another gimme to start. He went 7 of 16. Should have been 7 to 17 because he doesn't deserve that foul call. As I mentioned earlier, when he missed with Josh hard on him, he got it going. There's no doubt about that. He got better. Seven to 17 isn't the most terrible of things. But Harper was really, really good. I couldn't see why you'd have him on the floor and you wouldn't go to the Fox two man game with Wemby, who gave him the ball back to be that clutch guy and missed that shot that was wide, wide open.
A
The spurs, you guys talked about it already a little bit, but they were finding success with Julian Champeny in the first half. This guy was on fire, carrying it over from last game. Carrying it over from the time he hit 11 threes against the Knicks in a regular season game. So he was five three pointers in like 13 minutes in the first half. But you know, the rest of the spurs first off shooting abysmal from above the break. I mean all. Mainly their main guards couldn't buy a three and just everybody struggling from up top. And then they did a better job. I thought the Knicks have like, they obviously talked about it at halftime. Like, could somebody shut that off? You know, like somebody stay closer. There was a time where Josh Hart like was coming back on defense. He like left the play to just seek out where Champagne, he was in the corner, like wisely, like get a body on him because the guy was on fuego. So, you know, that was something I'm sure they talked about. But five threes from this guy early on gave him the help them build the lead there with Harper and Champagne being their main guy scoring in the first half. Yep.
B
Hit one at the end of the second quarter as well to send them into halftime. So as soon as he touched the ball for the first time in the third quarter, he got a three up and it was miles off. His misses in the second half were as bad as his makes were in the first half. I didn't give you five. Like that's good enough. Even if they all come in the first half.
C
Can you call that a heat check? Look, you said they joked about it.
A
They're like they were trying to see if the heat check continued through the. I still have time.
C
Am I still hot after, after, you know, being in the locker room for 15 minutes? Yeah, I guess.
A
I guess you brought up the high IQ play from Alvarado on that reverse layup. There where Wemby got the goaltend. That was very, very smart. I thought Mitchell Robinson did not have like a. An incredible game. He had the one alley oop there that he. Maybe because of the hand and the broken finger impacted it. But there was one play late where he stood up Wemby. He just stood him up. And that was one forced to travel that. It's all these little plays that obviously add up to the victory. Be it alvarado, be it McBride. Deuce hitting the most insane banked in three pointer from the coffin corner you've ever seen. I still don't know how the hell that went in.
B
He didn't either. He threw his hands up like that was nuts.
A
It's like he was somehow behind the backboard. Because obviously that, you know, extends behind the backboard. When you get into the deep, deep corner. It felt like he was behind the backboard, but somehow it still kissed off the glass and went in type of weird rotation he had on that ball. But all these guys, is my point, just contributing just enough. In addition to all the starters.
C
Yeah. And the New York Knicks faithful in the crowd yelling Deuce as he hit that. You could hear it on the broadcast.
A
It was loud.
C
That must have felt so horrible for spurs fans. The guy just hit it off the backboard and they're in the arena yelling his name. But then you also. Yeah. Other things like the 1v1 you said went off the backboard. That guy hit. I had to double check. He hit off the side of the backboard twice on that position.
A
Yeah.
B
One was on the left side.
C
Yeah. One was on the left side. That was, you know, in sort of in the pain as he drove in. And then one from the corner and he passed out of the. Of the post because he wasn't feeling good, I suppose. Not going at Carl Anthony Towns on that one. Not his night, man. We'll see how he responds. He only had 26, but he had a bad game.
B
He had a bad game and he still gets the 26 by literally rolling hard and crashing the offensive glass. But like I said earlier, like the Knicks are like, fine, we'll just value it. Doesn't matter. You can go shoot free throws. It throws the spurs offense just out of whack enough. Only 16 assists on the night for San Antonio and there are times that it just sticks out that Wemby doesn't have a bread and butter yet. So he's attacking from so far away. He's setting these screens 30ft from the basket and it gives the Knicks a lot of chances to dig in and try and strip the ball inside, and then their big guys are big enough to take the bumps from Wemby. I mean, there was the. There was the one play when Towns really goes. Gets knocked into the basket, but other than that, like, they're standing up to the guy, able to combat him with physicality. My favorite possession for Wemby was basically the first possession of the game where he catches on the right wing jab, step two dribbles and shot when he's dribbling three or four times. That gives the defense a chance to adjust to him and make things difficult and end up with Wemby on the ground. So Mitch Johnson mentioned it afterwards. They got to find a way to get him the ball in space. They got to get him a way to get downhill on these roles, just get fewer bodies on him. And I don't necessarily know how they're going to do that, but we've seen Wemby adjust from time to time. Like, he had a brutal game one against Minnesota in their second round series. Turned it around from there on out as well. So when he says, I'll be better, I believe him. But you got to go out and prove it. And this is a good team. The Knicks are not just scraping by here. They really proved, yeah, we can play with the best.
A
A big part of that comeback, too, in the third quarter, you know, when you zoom out, is like, they just didn't turn the ball over. I don't think they turned it over once in that entire quarter. And it happened right at the end when Brunson tried to throw like, an alley oop to Mitchell Robinson and it just sailed out of bounds, and it's like their timing was off. That was their only turnover in that third quarter. That again, you know, that's when they were at their biggest deficit. Because they started the quarter horribly, they couldn't score. They had like two points through the first five minutes. Again, this is when it felt like, oh, boy, this could turn into a bit of a honor. But just like they maybe, you know, my point is the spurs might have to do a better job of creating some. Some easier baskets here by creating turnovers. But the Knicks, man, the way they're humming and the way the ball is moving and the trust they have in each other, like, easier said than done. And also, just Brunson is pretty. He's a bit of a rock with it, for sure. Like, it's so funny. Possessions where Brunson like. Like, they are up on him. And he's just doing that thing where Brunson just keeps, like, you know, he turns his back to the rim and he keeps, like, sort of spinning and probing. And then he thinks about going, and then he doesn't, and he comes back the other way. It's just tough to get the ball from him. And he just never stops. You think? You think, like, okay, I've defended him for 15 seconds here, but he's got always a little bit left in the tank. Yeah, it was a fun ass game, man. I'm still hyped. I couldn't go. This was a classic. I can't go to bed after these. It's just like, I'm just buzzing.
B
I thought it was so funny. Like, the first maybe six minutes of the game, you could tell these guys were like, oh, it's the final. We're playing as fast as possible. Everybody's just flying up. And then, like, you know, we get to the TV timeout and stuff, they're like, all right, let's just play regular basketball.
A
Yeah.
B
Settled into a normal game. But even those. Everybody was hyped.
C
Yeah. Wemby was gassed at that first time out. Everybody was, yeah. No, no fouls. So it was super fun. No fouls. This is great. The first four and a half minutes of the game was super fun. Yeah. Jalen Brunson won't give up the ball.
A
Yeah.
C
The only times he'll give up the ball is when he has to go to the locker room to get an injury addressed. I mean, that's. That's the only times that you feel like he's not right. Because even when he came back from getting Harrison Barnes running into his knee and Luke Cornett stepping on his ankle, so two other injuries, he was totally fine. He totally battled through every single play, even if he limped. The only time again where he just feels like, okay, Brunson ain't here is when he's not there. I mean, if he's on the court, he is handling it very, very well.
A
Anything else from the X's and O standpoints or particular plays or players before we get into a whole bunch of random notes with game one of the final.
B
Yeah, I think one of my main adjustments for the spurs is make a dang layup. They left so many points on the table with easy bunnies. Like, you ran through it earlier. Taz, like, Castle had a few where he was wide open at the rim. Blew it. Vassell, the same. Wemby could have had a bunch of and ones in this game. They just turned into two free throw attempts where it's just rolling off the rim so the touch wasn't there. And I mean, a lot of the credit goes to the Knicks taking out their legs for sure. But I think, you know, both teams leave this game saying we could, we could have got to 120 points if we played a lot better. And, you know, eventually one of the teams is going to play better.

Yep, Vibe coding is everywhere right now. But it's not just for apps anymore. Now it's making its way into website creation. Wix has introduced Wix Harmony, a vibe coder for websites that lets you type what you want and generate a site ready to use right away, complete with forms, payments, security, and more built in. And WIX Harmony doesn't require AI for everything. You can still click and edit anything manually or select an element and have Aria, your AI agent, make updates for you. It's a smart solution to the frustration of repeatedly prompting AI just to make a small change. Try it for free@wix.com that's wix.com. hey, guys. Have you ever found yourself craving a cold snack?
B
Yep.
A
Do you even know what a cold snack is?
B
I do.
A
Well, some of you may have noticed I've been wearing a Montucky shirt on the video version of the podcast. And that's because Montucky makes my favorite cold snack. That's right. It's a cold, snackable beer, and summer is the best time to enjoy it.
B
You're right, Ders. Montucky is a light American lager from Bozeman, Montana. It's not one of those sporty beers. It's just a regular old beer that happens to not have a lot of carbs. It's snackable, shareable, and perfect for all occasions. It has 4.1 ABV, and if you need to know, it's only 103 calories and 5.9 grams of carbs. But hey, we're not counting carbs while we're drinking beers. Hey, that sounds like the dream beer to me. Go to Montserrat Finder to find Montucky cold snacks and a retailer near you. And if you're looking for some Montucky merch, use important snacks all one word for 20 off their merch store.
A
They got some cold horses on those cans.
B
Cold snacks.

A
Anything else from you?
C
No, no. I think we can get into some randos.
A
Let's do it. J.D. random. Random. I'll get us started with a big ass Larry o' Brien trophy.
C
Oh my goodness.
A
Oh, man. This was hilarious. They rolled it out there early. It was part of the pregame festivities. And this thing is huge. It's massive. The size of those men. They look like ants around this thing, but looks sick.
B
I like the guy who's on ball duty.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
Really gonna fall off.
A
Maybe there's who knows about the. The structure of that. The integrity of that structure. I'm not sure. I also loved off of that, you know, just all the like the little things. Right. With the finals, of course, we had been begging for the Larry o' Brien decal at center court. We got it. I thought it looked pretty good on the broadcast.
C
Pretty good. I'd like it to be a tiny bit darker. I thought it was a little too bright yellow. Even that monster that we just saw right there, that's a little darker now. It could be the shadows of the ants pushing it out that made It a little bit darker, but it didn't match. If you go look at when we had the trophy right here, Right here on this desk, it's just a tiny bit darker.
A
Just the decal, they didn't have the.
C
The tone. The hue is a little bright.
A
Wow.
B
The paint looks better than the decals did. Like, I just thought it just looked more natural out there on the court.
C
Okay.
A
Yeah. I also liked the decal on the stanchion. I was like, you know, this is at the start of the game, and there was a shot of Castle. It's like, oh, I like that. You know, they always do this, but they change up the style of it sometimes. So they went like this, like, oversized on the stanchion.
B
Yeah, that's a darker gold, too.
A
It is.
B
It does look metallic.
C
Yeah.
A
It's probably tough to get that paint color right on the court, for sure.
B
You know, then, you know, you're dealing with the cameras and how it picks it up. Yeah, it's like Tass's shirt. Is it red? Is it orange? Is it coral? Who knows?
A
I would say coral. Yeah.
C
Yeah.
B
Hard to say.
C
But did you see everybody who's there got some shots of the decal on the court? Still was still bright. Like, even when they're filming themselves. Look at me mid court. Like, we saw our friend Kenny Beecham doing that. It's still bright.
A
Okay. Okay. Well, it's better to have it than not at all. Even if the color is a little off to your liking.
C
Yeah, it still looks. It still looks great.
A
It does.
C
And. And I thought the spurs logos also looked good in it. You doing the horseshoe thing rather than the big spurs that was there in their previous NBA finals. You keep calling it a horseshoe, I guess. It's not a horseshoe.
A
It's a spur.
C
It's a spur.
A
Yeah, it is.
C
Yeah. It's the. The shape of a horseshoe. My brain is like, hey, man, I'm in the south, but I. I am not in Texas. I don't horseshoe it.
B
How did you.
A
We don't have a graphic or anything for this, but how did you feel if you caught it about ABC's let's call it AI assisted intro to the NBA Finals. Did you guys catch the hype video heading into the broadcast last night with all of the old clips? No. No. Okay. All right, well, make sure you take note in game two and. And come back to me. It's heavily aied.
B
Well, then I don't like it.
A
Yeah, I mean, simple. I mean, they're trying to do something like it's like, all iconic move from the finals, all the ones you've seen. Sure. Jordan's Obviously switching hands, Dr. J under the backboard, all that stuff. But then sometimes it, like, they've tried to make it, like, spin around the play, like LeBron's block. Okay. The idea is there, it's creative, but I'm not sure the execution was all that great. Personal opinion.
B
You know what? The execution was great on whatever music the spurs were playing during the next starting lineup. It was like a. A flute. A cartoon.
A
I mean, it must be from a cartoon, right? That's.
B
I'm sure somebody out there knows what it was. But that was pretty hilarious to, like, be super excited, you know, I got the girls. I'm like, we got to watch starting lineups. Let's get hyped. And they're like, what is this? I was like, what is this?
A
And it was so loud.
B
That was awesome.
A
To a point where I was like, yeah. At first, I'm like, is that the broadcast putting that in or.
B
No, it's like, the NBC wouldn't do that, right?
A
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was strange. Also, like, sticking with the music. The spurs arena was blasting before they went to the national anthem. New Noise, the song from the Bear that, like, that, like, sort of punk song, like, just, like, rock into that in the arena. Just like, caught me by surprise. And then we went into. Was it Tori Kelly? Is that her name?
B
Tori Kelly did the anthem?
C
Yep. She was great. How did you like the. The colors? The. The spurs wearing? All the spurs fans wearing their City Edition Fiesta.
A
The Fiesta clothes. Yeah.
C
It didn't match the court.
A
Yeah, yeah.
C
That was fine with it.
B
Sure. I think it works because they wear black. Like, they wear black and white. They wear neutrals anyways, so you can get a pop of color, and it looks fine.
C
Yeah, it looks good.
A
The only thing I'll say, though, is because there were a decent contingent of Knicks fans, there was a lot more breakups within the color blocks because Knicks fans are there and their jerseys and their whites and their blues and whatever else they're wearing. So that just, like, it popped to me like, oh, there's a bunch of Knicks fans. Oh, there's a bunch of Knicks fans. But, yeah, yeah, they went with the shirts even though they didn't have the Fiesta court.
C
Yeah. Yeah.
B
While we're on the. The style tip, I counted three individual cowboy hats in the stands last night. There was a fourth, but I was like. I couldn't tell if it was the same guy that I Saw before.
C
Yeah.
B
There was guys sitting in the bottom left corner of the screen taking selfies while wearing. One of the guys was wearing a cowboy hat. And I was like, oh, these guys think the game is over. There was 50 seconds left, and they're.
A
Yeah, there. There are a lot of, like, security in San Antonio that rock the cowboy hat. I feel. I can't. I can't not see them either. After you address.
B
Totally. You're like, every time. Is that going to be one and the other. The other style note I had, there was an old man who was sitting baseline, I guess, on the left side because the Knicks were shooting free throws. And he had on this cool teal spurs jacket. Like a satiny, almost like, baseball jacket. And he had only the bottom button done at the very, very bottom. That looked cool, man. It looked like he was wearing a blazer. Satin blazer.
A
A shirt underneath, though.
B
Yeah, he was wearing whatever his color shirt. I think it was maybe pink with the teal over the top, but that button was hanging on for dear life.
A
Good look. Yep. I want to address this weird Wemby pick that ABC uses on one of their graphics. We've seen it before, but then here it was in the finals. I think this was at the end of the third quarter. What is going on with this decision here? This cutout of Wemby? It looks so weird.
C
Very, very weird.
A
He somehow looks like he's five years old to me.
B
Yeah, it looks.
A
The angle or something.
B
The proportions are messed up. He kind of looks like. I don't know if you guys do this, but you eat a big meal and you just want to show how full you are so you, like. So stick your stomach out. Oh, I could never eat again. That's what it looks like when he's doing to me. Yeah, but he can't really stick his stomach out.
A
No.
B
He's pretty slim.
A
Yeah.
C
Yeah. That's a mess up. That's odd.
A
It just bugs me. They've used it before. This isn't the first time on abc. So I want them to fix that. Just, like, make it. We don't need to see his feet in this graphic. All right. Like, stretch Wemby out. Let's just go torso up, you know, it's fine. Brunson looks cool. It fits perfect. He's a lot smaller.
C
What is he doing with his feet? He wants to show that he's 7.7.
A
Yeah. Tippy Toes. Yeah.
B
It's very funny because it makes Brunson look like he's the gigantic one compared to A tiny little Wemby. But it does remind me. Basically, Mike Breen starts off the broadcast by saying Victor Wempe Zyama is listed at 7 foot 4, but he's much taller. Jalen Brunson listed at 6 foot 2, certainly shorter. These guys are two of the biggest height liars in the game right now. Doing it opposite ways we had.
A
I think it's. It's like a.
B
A wide angle lens sort of shifted vertically. Do you know what I mean?
C
Like, I think he's actually flat on the floor. Like, his feet are flat on the floor. Yeah. And you know how it distorts the.
B
So it looks like it's. He's got a distended belly and then
C
his head looks tiny.
B
Yes, I think that's what it is. They needed a wide angle lens in the studio they were in so that
A
they could fit his entire body in. Maybe.
C
Because it does look like a media shot.
A
Oh, yeah.
C
You know, definitely media.
A
Yeah. Yeah.
C
So that's. It makes more sense. Yeah.
B
Just use a photo of him doing something. Like Brunson is like. So, I mean, squatted down, dribbling. You don't have to go for the full.
A
It's like here. It's just a stupid ass photo of them.
C
Yeah.
A
Like, this is one where you should have to clear it with the player.
C
That's right.
A
You know, I mean, like, hey, we're thinking of using this one. And they text it to him and they go, that's. No, we can. We can do better. Yeah, there's got to be something better than that.
C
Yeah, right.
A
Knicks fans, Knick celebrities in the house. You know, many, many of the common ones we've seen throughout this postseason, throughout the whole regular season. Stiller, Spike, of course, Tracy, Morgan, Charlamagne.
C
Most. Most in the front row. A lot in the front row.
A
Yep. And John Turtoro was in the house. And a lot of people having some severance fun. Your Audi is a Knicks fan. Your Audi loves to travel. Your Audi is happy. And then your Audi has a son who is taller than you. I don't know if that's his son, but I assume it is. I have no idea.
B
That could be his son for sure.
A
Yeah, it's got Turtoro vibes to that guy.
B
So, yeah, P. Severance is your number one Turturo. Like, when you see John Turo, that's what you think of.
A
Love him in it.
C
There's something else that stands out that I can't name now. So that's just a.
A
Well, what would be your go To Turo.
B
Oh, brother, Where Art Thou?
A
Sure. Yeah. I guess I go severance over that just because it's more top of mind. He's in a movie with Spike, is he not?
B
He's been in a few Spike movies. Yeah. He's. He didn't do the Right thing. Is he in highest?
C
I think he is in do the Right Thing.
A
I think so.
C
Yeah.
A
I think that's the one I'm thinking of.
B
Yep.
C
Have you guys seen the Night Of? Yeah, that's the one that stands out to me. No, it's a miniseries on hbo, Max. It's very good. Yeah.
B
He doesn't do the right thing.
A
I don't think I've seen that.
C
And yeah, with Riz Ahmed. That's the.
A
Oh, I've seen that.
C
Yeah.
A
That's great.
B
Yeah, that was a great.
A
I was gonna say. Now you say. I was like, I think that's the
C
one that stands out to me.
B
Do the Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, Jungle Fever and Clockers.
A
Oh, God, he's in them all.
C
Yeah.
B
And not to mention Barton Fink. What a classic. Miller's Crossing. This guy's a legend.
A
100%.
B
What do you got, JD John Turturro or Timothy Shalam? Tough call.
C
That's not tough at all. It's John Turo.
A
Come on.
C
Yeah.
B
Look, Tim. Tim's a leading man. Turo, he's a character actor.
C
Yeah, true.
B
So there. Different roles. You know, you're right. You're right.
A
Let's talk about the fan running onto the floor.
C
Yes, I'd love to.
A
Fourth quarter. What about midway through? Is that safe to say? This guy screams out onto the floor while action's going on, waiting for his moment. He gets all the way to Wemby and attempts to take a selfie. Now, I've. I have seen footage of his actual selfie. And, well, he had a problem. Wemby's too tall. Didn't ask him to crouch down or didn't have the angle right.
B
Bad angle work.
A
Yeah. I think it's. You see Wemby, but I don't think you see a lot of his. His face. His smil face at that. Lemmy was like.
B
He wasn't mad.
A
No, no, I was. I was legit shocked. The broadcast did show a replay of the guy, because usually these broadcasts, I mean, you see it in baseball, football. It's like, cut away right away. Barely talk about it. Definitely don't show a replay of it. ABC is like, let's do it. And so this guy got his 15 seconds of fame, I guess.
B
Great for him.
C
Yeah. Get ready for it to happen every single game now.
A
Well, that's A great point, J.D. it's a great point. Also, your mind has to immediately go to, well, what on polymarket, what were the odds for a guy runs on the floor and takes a selfie with Wemby? Oh, plus 100. You know what I mean? Like, that's where my mind immediately goes. Probably the case. But anyway, he got out there, they got him off quick, and then it was back to action. Yep. Yeah. Although there was a. I guess. And actually was that safe to say that that helped the spurs, because was that going to be a Knicks? That was looking like a Knicks.
B
It was going to probably be a Knicks steal and ended up being a jump ball.
C
Y.
B
Even Mike Brown was like, just give us the jump.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
You can see, like, Scott Foster explaining it to him. He's like, we can't say it's eminent possession. Just couldn't.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sorry, man.
B
You probably had it. But we can't say it.
C
I like how nothing happened. It was better than.
B
He handled that well.
C
You see the Blue Jays outfielder get hit by a ball here in Atlanta. Jesus Sanchez.
A
Oh, somebody threw a ball from the. From the crowd. Yeah.
C
You have to leave the game.
A
Hit him in the head.
C
No, no, no. Like, oh, wow.
A
Damn, damn, damn.
C
At least nothing happened.
A
I wrote my notes here. This is random. We need to come up with a name for the classic Wemby block into a three pointer combo. Like, we seem to have established a name or two for when guys drive at Wemby and they go, no, thank you. Nopes. You know, U turns, whatever we call those. Fine. But I like that we got a Wemby block into a three combo. It felt like it'd been a while. I don't remember many in the postseason. Yeah, that was a regular season thing. But I don't know, there's something I kept. There's like a Wemby, sort of like Wendy's combos at Wendy's. There's something. There's something. Just start spitballing.
B
You know, Wendy Wemby is perfectly rated as one of the the future greats. Wendy's is underrated, and I feel like it's falling off. In the 2020s, you don't see Wendy's around as more. As much as you used to.
C
It's fallen off greatly.
B
Those square burgers, they were early, like, to the chicken sandwich game. Like, they had a chicken sandwich before anybody did. And now Everybody's doing it. Wendy's will never forget you, even though you're probably still out there.
A
Hey, I throw a Wendy's in every once in a while. I like their spicy nuggets.
B
I can't even think of where one is. Right.
A
There's one not far from here.
C
Yeah.
A
Yeah, exactly.
B
Okay.
A
I almost said. You almost said where you live. You almost doxed yourself.
C
Oh, people have probably figured it out by now.
A
Yeah. Next.
B
Next Watch party. We're going all fast food. We're getting Burger King, Wendy's Fair, Taco Bell.
A
We'll.
B
Maybe we'll do Zaxby's for a little local flavor. Everybody likes that.
C
Nice.
A
Nice. They got a nice sauce.
B
They got a nice sauce. They're all about the sauce. A couple of funny alley oops in this one. Mikhail Bridges threw one in the second quarter, and he looked like Uncle Rico throwing a football over the mountains. Even Mike Breed was like, whoa, bad pass by Bridges.
A
Yeah. He was like, I don't even think Wemby could have got to that one. And I don't think he would have because it was way too high.
B
Just, like, chucked it for the tip. Very funny. In the third quarter, I think it was champagne through an alley oop. And Wembley and Castle both went up for the alley oop. You can see champagne afterwards. Points to both of them. Like, he's like, I'm just throwing it up. And at first I'm thinking, why would you ever jump if Wemby's going to the rim for the alley oop? But Castle's like a slam dunk guy,
C
so I'm like, okay.
B
At least he has a claim to the ball. And it's in the air as well. But, yeah, I think they end up getting called for a foul, that one. Yeah, Nick did.
C
Yeah. It didn't end up being a double dunk or anything. It was just a quick foul. It was weird.
A
That was weird.
C
It's Fon Castle. You're a dunker. Don't even try. Like, earlier in the game. Don't even try and put it off the glass. Just dunk it.
A
Yeah, the play you're talking about, for sure. But that was. I feel like there was game one final nerves, everybody. Yeah, everybody. Yeah.
C
Yeah. That's why I thought home court advantage, which would help the Spurs. But it sure feels like the road team coming in was so comfortable. While the spurs at home. Too much juice.
A
Yeah.
C
But then too many decals
A
come back, man. You gotta bury them. Like, you gotta put them to bed. Yeah. You can't let them hang around first.
C
Should have started better.
A
The stats are crazy where the Knicks are down double digits. Like coming back here in a lot of these games. They've been crazy. Record over the last little bit.
C
Bit, yeah. The only time that Jalen Brunson cracked was post game. In his interview, his voice cracked.
A
Oh, my God, four times. Yeah.
C
So strange.
B
Strained.
C
He's tired.
A
Lots of talk about the Danhausen curse and the uncurse and all that. You know, since he uncursed the Knicks, they haven't lost. This is 12 straight wins, by the way, for the Knicks in the postseason. But it's important to note another one, guys. The Knicks have still not lost since Carl Anthony Towns chatted up Anne Hathaway in the Devil Wears Prada, too.
B
Wow.
A
Yeah, I know. And he's played really, really well since then, so. J.D. i don't know if I. Did you see that movie? You see every movie. So I said, yes, I saw it.
C
Okay. Yeah.
A
Is that a good one or.
C
No, he didn't like it. I didn't like.
B
Okay, it's good, but it ain't exactly.
A
How's. How's Cat, though?
C
He's great.
A
Yeah.
B
They call him Carl.
A
Okay.
B
Just Carl. I think he introduces himself as Carl.
C
He does.
A
Really interesting.
B
To Annie.
C
Well, he's at Miranda Priestley's house in the Hamptons.
A
Okay.
C
You know, you're Carl there, I think.
A
Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
B
Yeah. Cool. Anyway, if you said hi.
A
I don't know.
C
Yeah, I thought.
B
I'm Cat.
A
Hey, I'm Carl.
B
Anthony Towns of the New York Knicks.
C
Yeah. Yeah. I thought maybe. You're gonna say that. He's undefeated since Jordan Woods. His partner called him Carl. When they're doing the DC's Supergirl combo integration thing, she calls him Carl. I didn't even know that Carl's Carl. I don't know when that happened, but it was earlier in the postseason. They call him Carl, Carly. Or late.
A
That's what she said prior to tonight. The most recent time that the Knicks have led an NBA Finals was after they took a 32 series lead over the Houston Rockets in the 94 finals. Okay, I'm talking about series lead here. That was June 17th. That was the same night as the O.J. simpson low speed Chase.
B
Somebody find Barry Sanders and just keep him safe. Okay. I'm just saying we gotta. We gotta find some beloved running backs from the 1990s and check in on them and keep them locked in their homes.
A
Yeah. 94. You gotta go back when the Knicks had that 3, 2 lead in a finals that they would go on to lose there in game six and seven. But fun note, nice callback and my final one. I just thought this was a great tweet from Benji Sarlin. Quote, wemby crying on the court. Wemby bitterly quoting a French philosopher in the post game presser. Wemby taking an off season vow of silence. Wemby soloing Mount Everest. Wemby returning with a Sanskrit face tattoo. Admit it, he'd be way more entertaining with one finals loss first. And I'm like, there's maybe something to this. As much as we want to appoint him as the, you know, the goat, maybe already there is something I'm intrigued about Wemby, like, losing here, let's say maybe struggling even. He was already doing crazy things, little side quests. Imagine what this guy would do after a, you know, a humbling, let's say, finals loss. And the Knicks, like, had him figured out. I'm getting ahead of myself, so I just made me laugh. I'm like, yeah, maybe that would be funnier.
C
Oh, I'm. I'm a sucker, okay? I'm a sucker for stories. When he walked out and didn't do media after Game 5 and then came back in Game 6 and barely talked to the media, made it the quickest interview post game, and then cried after game seven, I was already. I was. I'm in on the script. So, yes, I'll enjoy a. An off season of quoting French philosophers. Yes, please.
A
Who knows what he'll get up to. Try and crack the code. Exactly. But it's just one game.
B
It's just one game.
A
Yep.
B
Yep.
A
Anything else?
B
Yeah. Mike Breen made me laugh. They showed Adam Silver sitting with the espn, Disney and abc. Exactly. He's like, not just saying this because they're our bosses, but what a handsome group of men.
A
Yeah, that was pretty good.
B
Some of the best looking men we've ever seen in our entire lives, said Richard Jefferson. Yeah, yeah, that was pretty good. I was laughing at that.
C
And I'm not trying to curry any favorite curry any favor.
B
Also, like, it's cool having inside the NBA there at the finals, actually doing the broadcasting they ran. Chuck talking about the big old women in San Antonio montage prior to the game, and then brought out the mayor of San Antonio, who is a woman. Well, she said, you can't teach courage, you can't teach class. And Mr. Barkley reminds us of that.
C
Buried him.
B
That was awesome.
A
And Chuck, I guess, did take photos with the onlyfans models who were in attendance did not see a lot of them here on the game one broadcast behind Mitch Johnson. Put the shirts.
C
Come on, put the shirts on. I know.
A
The last thing they're going to do is to put on the oversized T shirts.
C
Well, they can come in and do a trim if they want.
A
Of the shirts. Yes. Okay.
C
They can do a little chop. They can cut the top off the collar, you know, do a cleavage show as they do. I mean, if that's what they're doing.
A
Well, do you think the nuns should also put on the shirts? Oh, that's a good point because they were there as well.
B
They were there. They were in a box, though.
A
Yeah, that's right.
B
Yeah.
A
Tall. The tall one. The tall one that could hit the three was.
B
Yeah.
A
Wy Nun was there. Wy N. We had all our favorites in attendance. Oh, what a game. These people. I know.
C
Manu wasn't there.
A
Huh?
C
Was Manu there?
A
I didn't see him.
C
Yeah, no, he's, you know, one of my favorites. But Robinson, Duncan, others were there. Was Jacob Toby there? Anyway, Go on.
B
He's probably there.
A
He was probably there. All right, we're gonna take a break. When we come back, we'll play as this new Vibe coding is everywhere right now, but it's not just for apps anymore. Now it's making its way into website creation. Wix has introduced Wix Harmony, a vibe coder for websites that lets you type what you want and generate a site ready to use right away, complete with forms, payments, security, and more built in. And WIX Harmony doesn't require AI for every. You can still click and edit anything manually or select an element and have Aria, your AI agent, make updates for you. It's a smart solution to the frustration of repeatedly prompting AI just to make a small change. Try it for free@wix.com. that's wix.com. hey, guys. Have you ever found yourself craving a cold snack?
B
Yep.
A
Do you even know what a cold snack is? I do.
It's snackable shareable and perfect for all occasions. It has 4.1 ABV and if you need to know, it's only 103 calories and 5.9 grams of carbs. But hey, we're not counting carbs while we're drinking beers. Hey, that sounds like the dream beer to me. Go to montuckycold snacks.comsnacks-finder to find Montucky cold snacks and a retailer near you. And if you're looking for some Montucky merch, use important snacks all one word for 20 off their merch store.

All right, we've talked Finals. Let's do some other news. And is this news? All right, first headline. I'm pulling it from Real GM because it was succinct, but the news actually comes way of the Athletics, Sam Amick and Eric Neim. But the headline from Real gm, Heat seen as front runners for Giannis Antikounmpo Tass. Is this news?
C
It is not news.
A
Okay.
C
Nope. Has to be new to be news. On May 15th here at this desk, we came up with the trade offer for the Miami Heat to get Yanistan to Kupo. So this is old news to me. And the trade offer that we came up with was Tyler Herro going back home, Khalil Ware, Nikola Jovic, Kasparos Yakos, Drew Smith and a 2026 first round pick. Now they do. The Heat can also include a 31 and a 33. I didn't include the 31 or 33. You know, you can obviously throw that in there, but there's just a ton of players. While the Athletic was saying that Jaime Hawkes would be in there, I say nay. I say the Heat want to go forward with Jonathan Bam, Davion Mitchell as a point guard, Andrew Wiggins, Pelly Larson and still have Jaime Hawkes off the bench with Norman Powell because that's a team. No, they're not as good as the Knicks no, they're not as good as the Boston Celtics, I would say. But then they're in that next category for me. So that one made the most sense to me. As the Athletic also pointed out, it's better than, I think, than what the Boston Celtics are going to end up being able to offer in terms of just one player if they want to get rid of Jalen Brown. I think this one gives the good player, the young prospect and the picks, whether it's one or multiple. So, yeah, old news. But it's got juice. It's got juice. I think this is the team that does have juice.
A
Yeah. The article again from the Athletic was like four teams in the Eastern Conference. The heats as the favorites and then the Celtics, possibility of the Orlando Magic, I guess, with the Sean Sweeney tie now. And then the Cleveland Cavaliers. You know, I think that would be a Mobley piece going to Milwaukee. They left out the Knicks because they're three games away from the NBA Finals or the NBA Championship. They left off the Thunder and they focused on the Eastern Conference here. TK but yeah, newsworthy at all to you? This new article or new news?
B
I mean, I think Taz is right when he says that's old news, but it's becoming a little bit more relevant since Bucks owner Jimmy Haslam said he wants this trade to be done by draft day, which is, you know, just under three weeks at this point. You can also throw in the fact that Jimmy Haslam, owner of the Cleveland Browns, made a similar trade with his NFL trade team, stripping Myles Garrett to the LA Rams. They got back Jared Verse. You guys are big. Jared Verse fans were going crazy when he won the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year. We were always talking about his edge rush capabilities.
A
You know, I thought he was a kicker.
B
Yeah, I know. I wasn't going to mention that. But you were always like, man, look at Verse with the field goals.
A
Yeah.
B
And of course the Browns got back a first, second and third round draft pick. So they got a young player. They got a first round draft pick. I think NFL people think that the Browns didn't get enough back for Miles Garrett, who's one of the best players in the league. Giannis is also one of the best players in the league, but I don't know how different it is. But maybe that means Jimmy Haslam is okay getting the deal done rather than having this hangover a team and instantly starting a rebuild. So the question to me is like, what will the Bucks really be wanting going forward here? Yeah, they just passed lottery reform this changes the way draft picks are valued for every single team in the league. You might want a team like Miami's draft picks because. Because even if they end up in the middle, that's still a good chance at the number one draft pick at this point. So I think they likely would prioritize getting picks back from Miami as compared to like debating between Yovich and Hawkes and Yakachonas, all these guys who have Jay last names that don't sound like Jay. It's pretty weird when you link them all together, but it feels like the Heat want to make a move with the way that things have been going there, ending up in the play in tournament time after time. It feels like he Giannis wants to stay in the East. That's part of the reporting from the Athletic as well. It doesn't make sense to me that he would move to a similar market, like from Milwaukee to Cleveland. I mean, the team is better for sure, but like same sort of place. So Knicks make more sense and the Heat certainly make a lot of sense.
C
Yeah. And all those players included in the Heat going back to Milwaukee because financially they have to. That's just the way it works, right? They. They don't have monster contracts. Simply put, I mean, Tyler Hero is their number one pick. I think it does get more interesting with other Eastern Conference teams though. And the Athletic doesn't include the New York Knicks in this. And we are speaking obviously after they're up 10 with the New York Knicks, who were rumored 12 months ago almost to be the team and the only team. But now are they even going after Yanis? Highly, highly unlikely. So how, how many picks would the Heat have to give up? Because who else are they competing with in terms of picks? Is it Boston? Is it Cleveland, where he doesn't want to go? Is it Orlando, where I don't know if he wants to go? There may not be another team making a really good offer that can beat the Miami heats.
A
Yeah, we know that the Bucks want this deal to include a blue chip young star and then all these draft picks or draft capital, they probably want both or maybe have to decide between one or the other. I just get into that Heat one because I'm with you and we've talked about this trade, this hypothetical trade a lot. Does that what you've presented, does it offer and check all the boxes to Milwaukee? It really just depends how you feel about Tyler Hero and some of those other young guys included, of course. And then, yeah, I would think there would be way more draft capital. If Giannis is like, yeah, I'll go play for Miami, I will stay there, I will sign and all that, then you're going to be giving up more than one draft pick that you had on the board. You already addressed that. I think it'd be longer. But then can other teams offer a stronger package? Package too?
C
Yeah, they get so the Heat have to be clear. The number 13 pick coming up in this draft, the 31 and 33 first round picks they could include or they also have in addition pick swaps.
A
Right.
C
So there's lots that they could put on the table, but who's bidding alongside them? I am curious about that. I think Khalil, where you could squint and say, hey, this is a really young player, it's good as a draft pick. If you really like, like Khalil, where Kasparsiakos has a little bit of juice. Besides that, not a lot would be coming back if you don't include Jaime Hawkes as the athletic set. That'd be part of it.
A
Moving on to our next one here from ESPN. Steph Curry signs 400 million dollar deal with China's Li Ning. Is this news? Let's start with the sneaker head over there.
B
I think this is news. A ten year deal, that's a long time. Steph Curry won't be playing basketball in 10 years but lucky for him this deal with leaning includes a full golf line. Not to mention.
A
Yeah.
B
The ability to sign athletes under his brand like, you know, I guess dear and Fox is an Under Armour guy but he wears Curry brand shoes and Athleisure lifestyle where not to mention the basketball products. I see Leaning way of wage shoes way more often than I ever did. Which is surprising because apparently there are bans in place with regards to leaning and their unfair labor practices. So I don't know how they're showing up at gyms here in Atlanta, but they are and people say they're great shoes.
C
Yeah. I wonder how deep it goes in terms of the players he can sign under his own brand. He's got this connection with Azzy Fudd. Does she come along? I think those. Those are really interesting. But yes, that's a long time. It's a lot of money and for him I think it is a. Obviously a business side of things for his own brand as he can open other. He can open stores as well here in the US but. But having those athletes under his own brand is important to him, I think.
A
Yeah. Smart people that follow this stuff all the time and I want to Give a little shout out to sports Verse on Substack. They theorized three routes for Curry to go when he became a sneaker free agent and left Under Armour. One, he could go at it alone and try and raise capital to build it out as an independent sort of sportswear business. But a lot of people thought, that's never going to happen. Obviously, that takes a lot of money. It's a bit of a risk to the Nikes, the Adidas, the Pumas of the world, whatever. They would swoop in, sort of grab the Curry brand to help their basketball and their lifestyle divisions. But that felt unlikely just because of how expensive an investment like that would be. And like you said, TK Curry's also nearing the end of his career. Like, how many years does he have left? So maybe that's strange. Or three. This one, Curry would look into the China market and seek to partner with one of the country's two major brands, Li Ning or Anta, and obviously just decides to go with leaning here in the end and a huge deal. And obviously all these other things that probably played a part in this, being able to sign athletes, the golf, the athleisure wear, like all this stuff. Right. So, yeah, I know some people were pumped that, oh, yeah, he's going to go to Nike or whatever, Adidas or something. But I guess people that follow this stuff all the time, like, that was never all that likely just because the amount of money it would cost from those companies to do such a thing.
B
Sure.
A
Yeah.
B
And I mean, like, if he goes to Nike, he's instantly installed as, like, just a level below LeBron. That would be a huge investment.
A
Yeah.
B
Curry for. I don't know. I mean, Nike kind of needs it for right now. But he and Curry could also feel some type of way about the way things went down with Nike once upon a time. But Steph Curry got people wearing Under Armour shoes. Maybe Leaning is next.
A
Yeah, we'll see.
C
Yeah.
A
Final one here from the athletic President Trump scheduled to be in attendance for the NBA Finals Game three at Madison Square Garden. Tas is this news?
C
Sure is. It's going to happen. James Dolan, Call me Jim. Him is gonna bring him there. Apparently. You know, Trump has said Jim Dolan invited him, as he calls him. And Trump recited that he hasn't been. Or the Knicks haven't been good for a long time, so they've got some great athletes. But listen, if NBA champions aren't going to visit the White House, may as well go visit them. I think that's part of it as well that no team has visited the Trump White House during his first administration or now. So he can go see them and be buddies with Jim as he is friends with. With James Dolan.
B
Yeah. I mean, he's just doing it to be on tv.
A
Yeah.
B
The guy's had an adversarial relationship with the NBA for a decade plus. Only question for me is, what's ABC going to do when he gets booed? Because once they show him, he's going to get booed. Absolutely.
A
Yeah.
B
But he's got no way to hide it.
A
Yeah. He's got a boo kink, though. He likes it.
B
He's got a lot of kinks.
A
Yes, exactly. Exactly. Also, by the way, he has not gone to the game yet.
B
Right.
A
He's been known to say something and then not do it and then bail out. So we'll see if he's actually there. I guess they're leaning towards the Super Bowl. Yeah. And the college championship football, I think. Yeah. Pretty sure he made an appearance. But he would be the first sitting United States president to attend an NBA Finals game.
B
Game.
A
Sort of crazy. And then the last sitting president to attend an NBA game was Obama back in 2015.
B
Why'd that guy never go to a Finals game?
A
Yeah, it's a little shocking.
C
It is surprising.
A
Bulls kept.
B
Maybe because he was working on being the president.
A
Yeah. Yeah. Bulls Cavs was the Obama game. We were obviously podcasting. Pau Gasol blocked LeBron James. A shot attempt near the end that would have tied it. Possibly.
B
Which game was it?
A
I think it was the opener.
B
Oh, that's Derrick Rose Banks in the game.
C
Winner, right?
A
No, I don't think it's that game. No, it's not that game. 15. I just remember Pau Gasol blocking a LeBron shot. We definitely talked about it, and I think. I don't even know if it's an opener. Maybe it's just early in the season, but that was our last president there. But we'll see if Trump's there. We'll see if he's there on. I guess that would be Monday night.
C
Jesus.
A
Whether he's there or not, Madison Square Garden, that building is going to be insanity now that they're. Now that it will either be two zero Knicks or it'll be one one and a best of five. Holy crap.
C
It is Monday and he is good friends with James Dolan. Yeah. So that seems to be a connection. I wonder if Donald Trump has to go through facial recognition like everybody else does. He gets scanned probably.
A
Well, but of the Night. This is a fun one. Sponsored by Will Culberson. Will and Jessica are getting married tomorrow, Friday, June 5th. Will writes in. We're Chicago Bulls fans who are cautiously optimistic. Okay. He continued, Will did. We're getting married at a popular brewery here in New Buffalo, Michigan called Beer Church. As the name implies, it's an old church that was converted into a brewery. Yeah, look at that. It's a nice looking place for our reception. We're hosting our friends and family at a rooftop for a Cubs game. So congrats to Willa Jessica on the forthcoming marriage here tomorrow, game two of the NBA finals and then a Cubs game, I guess.
B
Yeah, rooftop. That's fun being a rooftop by Cubs.
A
Getting a good time? Absolutely.
B
Have a great. Have a great wedding. Bulls are going to get the steal of the draft at number four. I was very excited to see Caleb Wilson was the guy who was like the correspondent correspondent. They brought in some draft prospects, some rookies. We were trying to name them in the classic factory. It feels like Wilson could drop to four to the Bulls. And people are saying he's got a ton of personality. And I'm watching his clips of like Brunson cooking in the fourth quarter. This guy's got a ton of personality.
A
Oh, he does, does he? Yeah. I didn't see any of this. Okay, good to know who's up for game two.
B
I forget already. The Jared verse.
A
No, do you hey with that. Okay. Jared verse. He's a rookie or he was a young guy.
B
He's like maybe third year.
A
Do they ever say first things verse?
B
They probably have. I didn't see every ran first things verse.
A
I sack all the QBs. Is he said he's a defensive player.
B
He is.
A
Okay, good
B
Jared verse. Don't call me Javon curse.
C
That's what they're serving at the the wedding. First things first, sausage. So this is taking place in Michigan. So they'll just be watching a Cubs game from a rooftop, like on a screen? I suppose. Okay, you know what I mean. They're not going to Chicago.
A
What is it, a day game? Must be.
C
It's reception. Well, I don't know for the reception.
A
Well, what do you mean? You should be watching the NBA finals.
C
Oh, it is game two. Yeah, yeah. His Bulls aren't in it.
A
No, true, but come on, he's a basketball fan. Why the hell's he sponsoring a woe boy on a basketball show?
C
Listen, he's watching fans watching start to tune out of our show and they don't. Their team's not involved Anymore.
A
Well, that's stupid. That's a fair weather no dunks fan.
B
Okay, here's. Here's what's gonna happen. Here's what's gonna happen.
A
Here's what's gonna happen.
B
June 5, Cubs game is at 2:20pm
A
What I tell you?
B
Yeah, you can watch the finals too. And then you can enjoy your wedding night with sex.
A
Nice. Carl Anthony Towns is the.
B
Whoa.
A
Boy produced a double double in his first career finals game. 18 points, 12 boards, 7 of 15 from the field. Perfect at the line, 4 assists, 1 block, 34 minutes plus 13. I debated this one, I gotta be honest. Kathmandu Josh Hart with a crazy box score. Didn't score a lot. Of course. Brunson scored a lot but took a lot of shots so sort of split the middle, I think. But Cat was awesome. And you guys talked about how important he was defensively. Oh, Wemby too. That was. He was the main assignment. It was not OG we debated and they went Cat and so far so good. After one game game of the NBA finals. So Cat gets well, boy.
C
Congratulations.
A
Any other thoughts? Let's take a. Let's get out of here.
B
Let's take another break.
A
I don't know why I almost said that. I'm tired. I'm tired.
B
I.
A
Like I said, I was up. I was up very late last night cuz I was just buzzing and couldn't go to bed. And then. Yeah, up early to get ready for the show.
C
I saw you guys. You're either slack. I saw everybody was live on slack. Still slack it. We're tweeting. Yeah, once you get the juice going, you get the juice.
A
I was tweeting late last night. You're right. You're right. You got your eye on me, eh?
C
Always nice.
A
All right, we are. Well, I got another show to do here. What am I talking about?
C
Be watching.
A
You guys got to get the hell out of here. I got to get my wife in here to talk about part two of the summer house reunion. Yeah, Nora's got a new segment coming today. Breaking news in the Bravo world. So join us at 1pm Eastern over at no Bust. Link is in the show. Notes gonna be talking about Kyle, who's down on the far right there, that photo. This guy basically was angry at his now ex wife because to quote him, you just didn't party enough with me. If you just partied more with me, we'd be fine.
B
It's important you have shared interest in a relationship.
A
It is, it is. This guy's a bit of a party animal. No, he's definitely a party animal. So much so that he turned his, like, whole career now into being a dj.
B
This is you see lover boy?
A
Yep.
B
That's his brand.
A
That's him.
B
So he's got an alcohol company and he's a dj.
A
Yep.
B
And his life is being on reality tv. Yeah, he might be right about this. Yeah, she didn't party hard enough to stay married.
A
What?
B
She's interested in the curly haired guy on the left.
A
No, no, no, no.
B
The Don Johnson looking character.
A
She's actually. No, that's Ben. She's interested in what? West is on the other couch. Can't see him right now. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, he's the Aussie of the bunch. That guy on the left.
B

In this episode, the No Dunks crew breaks down Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. The conversation centers on the Knicks' dramatic 105-95 comeback win, the heroics of Jalen Brunson in the clutch, Carl Anthony Towns' surprising two-way dominance, Victor Wembanyama’s struggles and shot chart, and the key role players who swung momentum. The team dives deep into x’s and o’s, individual player arcs, postgame narratives, and offers their signature blend of analysis and humor. The back half features rapid-fire observations on fan antics, arena aesthetics, sneaker news, and NBA rumors.

For fun, they also serve up plenty of sideline stories, arena quirks, and delightfully wonky takes on shoes, celebrities, and graphics.
For a thorough Game 1 breakdown plus all the off-court Finals vibes, this episode is a must-listen for NBA fans!
