Good morning sweet world and welcome to the no Dunks podcast presented by FanDuel. It's Wednesday, January 7th, 2026. I'm J. Skeets here in the good old classic factory and alongside me, as always, Tas Melas podcast listeners.
Trey Kirby
This is for you.
J. Skeets
Next to him, it's my top shot hot boy Trey Kirby Ayo Ayo and over yonder, making the magic happen, super producer JD Hello There he is. Here we are. Hello to everybody on YouTube. Hello, podcast listeners. Feels good to be out of the.
Tas Melas
Box, breathing the air.
J. Skeets
Man, you saw me when I came out of that thing yesterday. I was soaked. It's like a hillbilly sauna. I realized I was drenched. I've run marathons and not sweat that much. It's hot in that box. But it looked like people enjoyed the pick and pay off, J.D. so good work on that.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Did you buy a sauna yesterday?
J. Skeets
No. No.
Trey Kirby
Because that seems like not a box on it, but like a cheap. Saunas are for sale.
J. Skeets
Are they?
Tas Melas
People are buying saunas these days.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, you get into a teeny tiny one for a few hundred bucks.
J. Skeets
Just get a box.
Trey Kirby
Just get a box and breathe.
J. Skeets
Yeah, it works. All right, we got a fun one for you today. Later in today's show, we're going to grade some hypothetical Trae Young trades. We're going to trade this guy to like five or six teams. Oh, yeah, he's going to the Wizards. He's going to the Wolves. He's even going to our Raptors. Taz. Is he? No way. We'll grade that trade when it comes to Trae Young trades. But first, we did have some basketball last night. Let's talk about a few of the games. Let's start with Luka Doncic and LeBron James each dropping 30 in the Lakers win versus the Pelicans. And after the game, after both guys played really well, LeBron James reiterated Tass the pecking order, so to speak, when it comes to the LA Lakers. He said, quote, luka is our franchise for this ball club. He don't need to bend his game. It's up to us to bend our game around him and figure it out. That was LeBron, L.A. won their third game in a row here without two starters in Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. But what'd you think of this one?
Trey Kirby
A lot of respect from LeBron. That's right. Somewhat. Bending the knee to Luca for the first time in his career to another guy, I think that was cool. I think his 38 and 8 performance for LeBron was also very cool. Vintage LeBron stuff.
Tas Melas
Good stuff.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, amazing. And watching Luca was fun in this game. How controlled his body as he always is, you know, with the modern day NBA and all the travels happening. Because he is so slow, I sometimes I watch that tape.
Tas Melas
Is he traveling?
Trey Kirby
Nah, nah, he's just. He's just that pace and he always will be. He was so good that mid post move on Pool even surprised himself where he was able to score in that slow mo move. And then he pulls the. The classic European gesture. To me, anyways, it's a. Yeah, that was not bad. You know that. And then obviously with two minutes left, he hits that monstrous three. A ridiculous three. A ridiculous three. But that's.
J. Skeets
You're talking about the one where he used LeBron as a pick at the hash mark and then just threw it up. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Fell into a kid's lap and like it was his son or something like that, the way they were celebrating together.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, that was awesome. It was. It was really cool. So those two guys did it. And that's what the Lakers are right now. I mean, they are so top heavy. They're so good between him and. And LeBron and Austin Reeves when he comes back. And that's why they're climbing the standings here, because they have enough guys to beat the bad teams against the sub 500 teams they're rolling this season. They're 12 and three against sub 500 teams at the beginning of January. Eight of their first nine games against sub 500 teams. And that's why they're climbing. Combined with the spurs loss that we'll get to, they're near second place in the Western Conference, sitting in third. So the other guys, the support guys, did enough. Like Ravia Smart, Ayton. We're seeing more Jared Vanderbilt, even LeBron in his interview talked about Dalton Connect, how they're trying to get Dalton. He knows exactly everything that's going on. Deep shots. When he said, Deke, I'm like, whoa.
J. Skeets
Donkey Kong bonanza here.
Trey Kirby
But, you know, they're down seven going into the fourth quarter.
J. Skeets
Yeah, they. They started the fourth quarter with an 18 to 4 run. And some of that was LeBron hitting threes. Dalton connected a three, and then Deandre Ayton was getting some baskets inside, but that sort of opened the game for them and they held off the Pelicans as it got down the stretch. And you got some crazy Luca shots. But yeah, yeah, they beat the bad teams. You're right.
Trey Kirby
They still want another guy. I think we're. We're getting, you know, closer to the trade deadline. We'll have NBA insider Michael Scotto on the show tomorrow. We'll be talking about potential players like Trey Murphy on the other side. Dropped 42. Is Trey Murphy tradable at this point? I know I talked about him going to the Golden State Warriors. I know Lakers fans are saying, get him on our team. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It would be nice if he was able to. They were able to just grab Trey Murphy like that. But when you got two guys like that doing what they do, that's enough against the Pelicans. Really?
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Every game around the trade deadline feels like an audition, and that felt like one for Trey Murphy. The dude was hooping, man, Hitting threes, dribble drives. He got a give and go alley oop, which was crazy. But LeBron and Luka were just awesome. It felt like they were wowing Joel Myers and Antonio Daniels on the call for the Pelicans with some of the things they were doing. Like when Luka got doubled way out on the far left wing, he just throws a crazy over the head pass. You're like, what's he doing? Right to DeAndre for an alley oop with two guys around him. That was nuts. Impressive stuff from both of these guys. Luka and LeBron. I would love, Kevin, Love to just put up a post. Fit in, don't fit out, man.
J. Skeets
Oh, yes.
Tas Melas
That's basically what LeBron's saying about himself. Because I follow too many Lakers fans. They're just so prevalent on the Internet and they're a little bit like, does LeBron like playing with Luka? Does he like being the number two guy for the first time in his career? It's a weird spot for him to be at. You go and look at the on off data. Luke and LeBron together, minus 3 points per 100 possessions together. But last night they were plus 4 in 23 minutes together. They can be better together. And it mostly comes down to LeBron buying in, like he's saying. And he was completely bought in last night to the point where he's setting ball screens for Marcus. Smart, right? Like, it wasn't just for Luca. He was doing the number two guy kind of things that LeBron needs to do to make this Lakers team as good as they possibly can. The Lakers always do have a weird schedule because they like to backload their schedule for when the NFL is done, then they have to play all the good teams. So we'll see what the Lakers are looking like once Reeves gets healthy. If they make a trade deadline acquisition, they'll do something I would have to imagine. But anytime these two can go out and drop 30 together, you're like, oh, that's why the Lakers are a dangerous playoff team. You factor in that they're undefeated in clutch games. So far, they got a chance against anybody. I don't know if I would take them to beat anybody, but at least they got a chance in one Game scenarios at least.
J. Skeets
Yeah, it is pretty wild that the Lakers are still perfect in clutch situations. In clutch games that get there, they're 13 0. That's the record for games that touch the clutch. Definition, obviously within five in the final five minutes of regulation or overtime. Now when you look at the actual numbers, they've played like way less minutes than a lot of the other teams that have gotten into clutch games. Okc, Detroit, San Antonio, even the Raptors have a good record in the clutch. Only 30 minutes of actual clutch time by the Lakers. So this is the thing.
Tas Melas
What?
J. Skeets
13 0. Wow. They can't lose in the clutch. But then you look at it, you're like, well, they actually haven't played a ton of minutes. Again defined by the clutch. Still impressive that not even have one loss in that. But it's just, you got to take it with a grain of salt. A lot of these other teams I just listed have played twice the amount of clutch minutes. That's all. Yeah, because you can get into the clutch and then you can get immediately out of it.
Tas Melas
That's pretty weird.
J. Skeets
Like last night was a perfect example of that where the lead balloons back to a more comfortable margin for them.
Tas Melas
So anyway, second fewest clutch minutes in the league.
J. Skeets
Isn't this strange? No, this. That sucks. I'm sorry, that's weird. You have to go into totals. I know. That's exactly what I did on NBA.com shout out to Schumann for that. That's weird.
Tas Melas
And last night probably like bumped it up a little bit, right? Because they got. It was like a five point game with like five minutes left and the Lakers kind of ran away after that.
J. Skeets
Fraudulent statistics don't say that to lakers. Come on, LeBron.
Tas Melas
OT GU games. I don't know. I don't know about this.
J. Skeets
Good point. Back to LeBron here with the great 38 and 8. He's going to be in the running for a woboy here tonight or today. Last night was the seventh time in LA's past 12 games that LeBron had scored 25 points or more. And during the Lakers current win streak here, LeBron is averaging 29 points per game on like 59% shooting. I bring that up because we were wondering not too long ago, I was like, is this guy gonna make the All Star game? Like is the streak going to be snapped? You know, he came back from the sciatica. He was not putting up LeBron like numbers. He's pretty low still in the All Star voting from the fans. We'll get to that. But man, he's sure helping his case here to at least be a reserve like you guys said he would be. Like, I'm the one going, I don't know. Don't know if he's deserving. There's a lot of great players. He's putting it together at the right time here. Lakers winning that, you guys are probably going to be right. I think a coach is gonna. The coaches will select him at the very least for a reserve. So he'll come off the bench. Maybe, I guess. Maybe. Who knows? With these teams peer pressure, somebody will give him his spot. There you go.
Tas Melas
Yeah. There's 10. There's 10American starters.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
You're telling me he's not gonna be one of them?
J. Skeets
No, you're right. You're right. I keep forgetting of this weird international.
Tas Melas
Yeah, of course.
J. Skeets
USA rule.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. If it's not the coaches that pick him, it'll be coach Adam Silver that picks him. Just.
J. Skeets
I don't even think it's gonna be that now. I think you guys are more likely right when it's, like, the coaches will select them.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, well, because, like, Reeves is not.
J. Skeets
In the mix right now. He's injured, obviously. Like I said, LeBron's numbers are coming up, up, up here. It is amazing. He's doing this one at 41 years old, and if you're winning a bunch of games and, like, they're top of the Western Conference. Yeah, he'll. He'll probably keep the streak alive. What do you think of reddick's quote about LeBron? I loved it because recently I was talking about Curry. The Curry family as the Alomars, which no one saw coming. But Reddick said this little baseball angle here. Cue the rounders music. Reddick said he's Greg Maddox at the end of his career. Every night. He doesn't have his best stuff, but he has enough to win. I'm his catcher. I've got to figure out how to call the pitches. Sometimes he tells me to f off, and he calls his own pitch, which is fine, too. So Reddick giving us a little Greg Maddox. LeBron Comp 2026 is all about comparing NBA players to baseball.
Tas Melas
That's pretty impressive. I wish I could have just had this off the top of my head. Greg Maddox's personal catcher. You remember that guy?
Trey Kirby
His personal catcher? Personal catcher, Gosh, no, I don't. I don't.
Tas Melas
Eddie Perez.
J. Skeets
Wow.
Tas Melas
Eddie Press. Of course. Of course.
J. Skeets
What do you mean, personal? Because he only had. He always caught his games. Yes. Oh, interesting.
Tas Melas
Yeah, he was like. He Knew how to call the games that Maddox liked and how to deal with, like, Maddox calling his own pitch.
J. Skeets
Oh, that's amazing. The.
Tas Melas
He called.
Trey Kirby
What do you call it?
Tas Melas
Like his Bugs Bunny pitch that would curve behind the plate. It wasn't a strike until it was past the bat.
J. Skeets
This guy was a br.
Tas Melas
Oh, Greg Maddox.
J. Skeets
What a legend.
Tas Melas
I love that comparison now. But apparently the Lakers were feeling pretty good because post game, LeBron was talking about not playing back to backs and how it's going to be a question mark if he plays any back to backs this season because he is 41 years old and he was like reciting his birth certificate statistics. He was like, I was born at 4:39pm came out and slapped the doctor on the ass.
J. Skeets
Oh, God. They were feeling good.
Trey Kirby
Totally. Yeah.
J. Skeets
They went in New Orleans, got the victory.
Trey Kirby
I did see Greg Maddox's name recently. For some reason, I don't know where it came up, but that he lives in Las Vegas. So if the Lakers go play, if there's a new team in Vegas, Greg Maddox will be there. Yeah, the Lakers will play there. J.J. redick will go say hi, I'm sure.
J. Skeets
Do you think there's ever been a photo taken of LeBron with Greg Maddox?
Trey Kirby
No.
J. Skeets
I agree.
Tas Melas
Probably not.
Trey Kirby
Where does Greg maddox attend that LeBron would be at?
J. Skeets
I don't know. What circles are they?
Tas Melas
He came to the dodge.
J. Skeets
Yeah, right.
Trey Kirby
Greg.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he came really well.
Tas Melas
I mean, I guess, well. Interesting. Greg Maddox and LeBron both came to LA teams really late in their careers.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Last random Lakers. Thought you called it a hillbilly sauna. Is that what you called it? Austin Reeves nickname Hillbilly Kobe? Yeah. I don't know. Maybe he starts to take saunas. Like a little hit in the sauna and not drugs. I just mean call him the hillbilly sauna.
J. Skeets
Are hillbilly Kobe, as in Austin Reeves should maybe endorse a cardboard box. Hillbilly son.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, start digging. Start hanging. Okay, well, there. I mean.
J. Skeets
What do you mean there? I'm helping you out.
Trey Kirby
Just hanging out in the sauna. He gets hot, man. I don't know. There's some. There's some. There's some basketball tie there.
J. Skeets
Moving on. Wemby, he came back. Hey. He was in the sauna and came back maybe a little earlier than anticipated, but he scored 30 in his return. He was doing some incredible pregame moves. Kicking balls that were in the net, lodged in the net.
Trey Kirby
That was cool, man.
J. Skeets
He just jumped up and kung fu kicked one of them out. So he was feeling good, I guess. But he did sit in crunch time here.
Trey Kirby
He sure did.
J. Skeets
Because he's like on a minutes restriction still recently coming back here and they lost to the Grizzlies, so he couldn't play what the final like 345. He hit a three to put them up and then they're like, all right, you hit your mark and they took him out. And then it was the Cam Spencer show. So little. Yeah, he was great and we can get to him. But this, the Wemby, how they're handling it, I mean, they're slow playing it, of course, but it came back to.
Trey Kirby
Bite them big time.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Maybe he's got to spend more time in a sauna to get more comfortable. There I go, baby.
Tas Melas
Well, what's.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, the situation here is he plays more, they win, I assume. I mean, you sure feel.
J. Skeets
I'm guessing they probably win the game if he plays the final 345, but who knows?
Tas Melas
The first lead of the fourth quarter that they had and they yanked him.
J. Skeets
It's stupid.
Tas Melas
He can handle 3:45.
J. Skeets
Yeah. Especially again, you're seeing the guy jumping up and kicking a ball out of the pre game. I think he's okay. I think he's feeling all right.
Trey Kirby
They're waiting. Yeah, they are there playing it extremely slow. There's no doubt. It was great to see the Grizzlies come back in the third quarter. When they came out at halftime, they were down. But in that arena we've been to, they got the fans behind them possession after possession after possession because they're also extremely short handed.
J. Skeets
Oh, good.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. No Cedric Coward, no John Moran. That's not surprising. And then, you know, a bunch of other guys that we know, Edie and Pippin and, and Ty Jerome. So yeah, we had a Cam Spencer show. But it, I think it started in the third quarter was just their effort and the spurs, you know, messing up a little bit. You know, they left a three point shooter open right to start because they were miscommunicating. I think they decided, oh, we'll double Chuck Landale along with Harrison Barnes. We'll double him. And so they leave an open three. And then we saw Luke Cornett's eclipse defense as he always does, the, the. The Cornet contest as he tried to do it and I guess it worked. But another missed three leads to another offensive rebound. And then the, the Grizzlies just push, pushed it. Fast break from Gigi Jackson, fast break to led to a Jalen Wells 3. And then, yeah, the Cam Spencer, the pump fakes. Yeah, pump fake and one.
J. Skeets
He was straight down on Cam Spencer.
Trey Kirby
And the offensive rebounds from that guy. Cam Spencer had three offensive rebounds in this game. A lot of effort from one of the smaller guys on the floor to get them to the fourth quarter where. Great ending. I thought that. Super fun ending.
J. Skeets
I mean, I thought the game was over. It looked like the spurs were winning even without Wemby playing the final 345 when Fox blocked Wells from behind. Incredible block. Then they went the other way and Fox scored. I think that put them up four. And there was like a minute and a half, let's say to go. But then, yeah, Cam Spencer pulled a deep three. Bang, they're down one, got a stop. And then Cam Spencer hit a nice little baseline jumper where Luke Cornett was trying to guard him. Obviously there was a lot of space left and he hit that. And then Fox took a jumper with like five seconds left, but it was like, like four Grizzlies guys. So many people converged on him and I guess Eldama got credit with the block. Yeah, so they pulled it out. They snapped a four game losing streak.
Tas Melas
Yeah, that was a big win for the Grizzlies. Tasks nailed it. Spencer was great. I thought Vince Williams was really good as well. The spurs just couldn't contain the ball. And with no Wemby back there for the majority of the game, I guess when you're looking at the total minutes he played, just good stuff from Spencer and Williams. 21 and 8. No turnovers for Cam Spencer. 15 and 6. One turnover or 15 and 5.
Ryan Seacrest
Sorry.
Tas Melas
One turnover for Vince Williams. They were great. 17 offensive rebounds, 22 second chance points. The Fon Castle filed out as well. So let another guy who would be helpful on the defensive end. But I thought kind of a disappointing performance from San Antonio to be getting cooked by those two guys who are not like top of the pops point guards, perimeter players out there. And they couldn't keep them out of the lane.
J. Skeets
Well, Wemby, after the game, there's a lot of good quotes. Last night in the NBA, Wemby said this. I thought these were bars. He said, quote, the fact is we play down to the level of the opponents. The good thing is we can match up with anybody and look everybody in the eyes. But the bad thing is we look everybody in the eyes and sometimes we should just put people away.
Tas Melas
Wow.
J. Skeets
I mean, that's a pretty good quote.
Tas Melas
That's a great quote, especially for a guy who has nobody ever look him in the eyes.
J. Skeets
Right.
Trey Kirby
He's got to get in a squat position.
J. Skeets
Has he ever met George Mearson? Is there a photo of Wemby and George Mearson?
Trey Kirby
Oh, that's funny. Great question.
J. Skeets
George Mearson is still with us, right?
Trey Kirby
Yes.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
He is for sure because I double check that and just make sure because he's. He's in a short that we have coming out. A photo of George Merson beside Tito Horford, Al's dad. Anyway, I can't wait.
J. Skeets
You sell a short. I'll give you that.
Trey Kirby
That's what we give us, the crazy.
Tas Melas
You're the new big T. Zo.
J. Skeets
Is this the same short with Kobe wearing a glove? When's it coming? This thing is gold.
Trey Kirby
Well, you know, how will it do? We never know how short.
J. Skeets
You never know. Never know.
Trey Kirby
And you never know how the San Antonio spurs are going to finish a game. They should have finished this game. Yeah, I mean, this could have been. We're talking about Cam Spencer. We should be talking about Darren Fox, where it could have been. I mean, that he had that three, then that mean chase down block, then that floater, back to. Back to back possessions. And then, yeah, the Grizzlies stole it again. The Cam Spencer show.
J. Skeets
What's going on with Harrison Barnes here? Have you guys checked? He's ice cold since Christmas. It's wild. I could not believe it because he had a bad game last night. But this guy right now, since Christmas, which he played okay on Christmas, in I think it's six games now. Yeah, six games. He's only had one good game where he shot like 5 of 11. Everything else, he's had games of 1 of 4 shooting, 1 of 7 shooting, 2 of 6 shooting, 1 of 7 shooting. And then last night, 1 of 6. He said one game since Christmas that was half decent. He's just ice cold right now. And he was like. Remember we were talking him up when they were like winning games without Wemby. Like, he was doing really well as the vet there. He just can't hit a shot to save his life right now. Like, he can't score. That's the one thing Harrison Barnes pretty good for.
Tas Melas
I'm generally a Harrison Barnes fan. Like a mild fan. Like, I think he's fine. He's nice to have around. Seems like a good guy, likes technology. But the spurs could definitely upgrade his spot. And it'll be interesting to see if they decide to make a move at the trade deadline because they do have pieces. They have assets. They've got some contracts that they could throw into the mix and that's definitely a spot that they could decide to upgrade if they want to. Cause like Wemby saying they can beat anybody. We saw it. They beat the Thunder three times. They at least have a chance. And you know Wemby is ascending. He will be playing more than 21 minutes eventually. Hopefully by the playoffs. Hopefully he's healthy as well. We'll be interesting to see if the spurs want to do something. They're usually, or at least I would say not. Not usually. They used to be a team that never made a trade.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
During the trade deadline. They obviously did Fox last year. They've gotten a little bit more aggressive making moves in the past five seasons, I think. And maybe it'll be like we'll wait and see what other teams are doing. If other teams are beefing up, maybe we should beef up as well.
J. Skeets
Maybe.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And maybe it's time to give Carter Bryant the rook some more minutes to bounce Harrison Bartz, who you know is playing well. And when I, when you said how's he doing? I said he's fine because he did have an athletic finish. Yeah, he, he's still athletic. He still contributes. But Carter Bryant, they're still playing that too. That guy is really, really talented when he plays an extremely good defender. Obviously he's, you know, can improve offensively, but yeah, they could improve. Devin Vassell. Missing him. You know something?
J. Skeets
Yes.
Trey Kirby
Not being around yesterday. But yeah, some bad minutes out there by our friend Kelly O, who wears a backwards hat like you're wearing right now. When he got married, the Kelly O.
J. Skeets
Look.
Trey Kirby
He was at the altar with a backwards hat.
J. Skeets
Yes, he was.

Anthony Edwards had 26 points to help the Wolves beat the Heat. 12294 blowout. We got to garbage time. Both coaches pulled all their guys. When we got into the final couple minutes it was disappointing because this is one of the games on the docket last night. We're like all right, he playing pretty well. Wolves got a nice little streak going this could be a good one. I think they just played recently, too.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
J. Skeets
Where the Wolves took care of business there. So there's like a little revenge game. But no, this was a professional ass kick in here from Minnesota.
Tas Melas
TK Yeah. And Ant did a really good job. I thought of making Khalil Ware pay every time he wasn't up high enough on the screen, which was a lot of the times on these pick and rolls. 5 of 8 from 3 For Anthony Edwards, and it was just stepping into him quite easily. The wolves had 11 dunks last night. Rudy Gobert was throwing things down like crazy. McDaniels had a bunch of dunks. 62 points in the paint on the night for Minnesota. Miami also turned the ball over 18 times and gave up 21 points off that. Meanwhile, Minnesota's 12 turnovers only turned into five points. They were getting back on defense. They were playing harder. They were playing better. This was just the dominant performance from Minnesota.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, you often don't see the Minnesota Timberwolves play above their competition. They play down to their competition. But it was good for them to beat the Heat twice in four days. You know, you'd think, okay, we just beat them, maybe they'd relax. But they were solving the zone over and over again. They used all those dunks to help help them out. Rudy is having a career year. I'm not career year. I shouldn't say that. He's having a really hard year.
J. Skeets
He is having a very underrated, good year.
Trey Kirby
Nobody's talking about him.
J. Skeets
Like, do we need to start getting ready for Rudy Gobert to win his fifth defensive player of the year award? I don't think it's that far fetched. That guy. This is. Everybody knows this is true, but he is still a defense unto himself.
Trey Kirby
It's not Evan Mobley. It couldn't.
J. Skeets
It's not. Mobley's probably going to miss it. He's not going to hit the 65 game threshold. I think he's already missed 14 games, so he's got a few more to play with. Wiggle room there. Chet Holmgren is the favorite on FanDuel still. Now that's a. I think a part of that, of course, is OKC elite defense. Let's give it a representative there. But the Wolves are still a top five defense and Rudy is. I mean, he's just awesome defensively. He's a game changer. The Heat score a lot of points in the. In the paint, at the rim. They didn't shoot a great percentage last night. Big part of that's Rudy Gobert. I'm just saying, like he might have the all time record, right. Because he's tied with a couple other guys with four defensive Player of the year awards.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. It could be the guy that he was playing against yesterday in Bam Adebay, who gets his first. Because that Heat defense is still super, super good. You know, they do enough. So, yeah, that's what's going to come down.
J. Skeets
He's. Rudy's up to second place when it comes to the odds on Fanduel. He's plus 600. So he's climbed up there. I mean, he was much lower when we were earlier in the season. It's in play. But he's been good. You're right.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he has been extremely good.
Tas Melas
I thought it was an AI clip I saw this week of Rudy Gobert catching a ball in the short roll and whipping a behind the back bounce pass to the corner, but it was real. Yeah, he's throwing nice passes. He's doing cool dunks right now.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's kicking ass.
Tas Melas
Shaving his head. Great move. He's back.
J. Skeets
Yep. And Tyler Hero was back, too. He had 17 points in his return. He had missed 11 games. Hadn't realized he'd missed that long with the toe injury. But yeah, not, not. Obviously a great performance here from the Heat. And Bam. Out of bio. Oh, man, this guy has not scored over 20 since like mid December. Great defensive player, obviously still gets you rebounds and stuff like that, but shooting the ball, he's struggling too. Right now. He's in a funk. I can't believe that he doesn't score. 20, 20 is nothing in today's epping. I'm sorry, it's nothing. And he hasn't been there in a long time.
Trey Kirby
That's surprising.
J. Skeets
Yeah. Other games last night, Let me chuck them at you. You can talk about as many as you want. Brandon Williams hit a late three pointer, gave the Mavs the 100 to 98 win over the Kings. CJ McCollum steadied the Wizards in the fourth. They beat the Magic, 120 to 112. Quality win. And then the Cavs rallied late for the 120 to 116 win, handing the Pacers a franchise record 13th straight loss. Rick Carlisle still stuck at 999 wins. Been a month now. He's been stuck there. Stuck on 999. But any of those games you want.
Trey Kirby
To talk about, well, the Pacers, they stink. But they have their own draft pick here coming up, so that bodes well. I think that's such. That's a good little story, I think, because they got that pick back during the 2025 NBA Finals.
J. Skeets
That's pretty cool.
Trey Kirby
That is amazing because we all thought, whoa, a team trading their draft pick, this coming draft for next year's to go get it back. Because that's the Siakam pick eventually. Yeah.
J. Skeets
That's the one that got bounced around everywhere. And it made its way back to them.
Trey Kirby
Exactly. Originally, the Pacers trade it for Pascal Siakam, and the Raptors gave it to Pelicans for Brandon Ingram. In part. And then just last year, before the draft, the Pelicans said, we want to pick. You know, we want to trade up. So they wouldn't get one. Got one. In order to do that, they had to give their 26 back to Indiana. It's worked out pretty well.
J. Skeets
They're going to get probably a really good player to add to what is. Is a good team when Halliburton's there. Totally. And obviously Siaka. Yeah. Yeah.
Tas Melas
And that means the Pelicans may have traded two of the top three picks in the draft.
Trey Kirby
Maybe.
J. Skeets
Literally.
Tas Melas
Maybe one and two.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
J. Skeets
Oh, my God.
Trey Kirby
That is a good call. Yeah.
Tas Melas
But I did see that Zion has played 12 straight games. Zion's played 12 straight games. Literally nobody talks about him anymore. I don't know what's going on.
J. Skeets
You were fighting. Fighting through it there for a little bit, and then too much humidity.
Trey Kirby
You're fighting through it, man.
J. Skeets
We gotta get you in the sauna. We still have the box.
Tas Melas
You want to get it all? Pop a box on me. Let me sweat it out a little bit here.
Trey Kirby
I will say, I always said I gotta. I gotta geek it out over the draft pick because it was top four protected when they traded it to the Raptors.
J. Skeets
Okay. Okay.
Trey Kirby
And then when it was traded to New Orleans. So it was top four predicted at all times.
J. Skeets
Covering the last a little bit, but.
Trey Kirby
But Indiana's. Yeah, they're clear. I'm like, hold on. They're the worst team in the NBA. If they get the number one pick, is it protected from themselves? No, all good. All good.
J. Skeets
They can't get.
Tas Melas
That'd be amazing.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. It's so weird. You know how picks are traded around. Do you remember who was involved in that trade? It was pick for pick, plus one player that we have. We know it's a deep cut.
J. Skeets
You're talking. You're talking Pelicans.
Tas Melas
Do we know him personally?
Trey Kirby
We've never shaken his hand.
J. Skeets
You're talking Pelican, Pacers during the Finals trade.
Trey Kirby
It was. It was the 25 pick for the 26.
J. Skeets
We talked about it on the show. Because it was during the Finals.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it's a. It's an incredible name.
J. Skeets
Not in the league, though.
Trey Kirby
I do not think so. We've seen.
Tas Melas
Not in the league. And this trade happened, like, six months ago.
Trey Kirby
I mean, he could be. We've seen him. I think we've seen him play in the G League. We know him on G League rosters, that's for sure. I got.
J. Skeets
I got nothing here. I don't even know where to start. Give it to us.
Trey Kirby
It's a great name.
Tas Melas
Edmund Sumner.
J. Skeets
I mean, that's a good name.
Trey Kirby
He's regal.
Tas Melas
Mojave King.
Trey Kirby
Boom. Wow.
J. Skeets
I can now raise it.
Trey Kirby
He's never played in the NBA.
J. Skeets
Really?
Trey Kirby
No.
Ryan Seacrest
Javi?
Trey Kirby
No. No. No. Hobby, anyway. I don't know about the Cavs on the other side of this. Pacers win. It's hard to feel confident in this team at all.
Tas Melas
I think they're doing better in general.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Hey, John Donovan Mitchell didn't play and they won.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
That's huge.
J. Skeets
That's good.
Tas Melas
They've won four out of their last five, seven out of their last ten. I think Darius Garland looks better. He was Great last night. 29 points, 6 assists, 0 turnovers. Went 7 for 7 from the field in the fourth quarter. Him being better has made Jared Allen look better, has made Evan Mobley look better. He's just a good downhill creator who's a good playmaker as well. So Garland being able to take a little bit of a step forward here is definitely helping the Cavs, and. Yeah. Do you want to have to go on a crazy run in the fourth quarter to have to beat the worst team in the league?
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Not great, but they're super banged up, and they still got the win here, I guess. Bad News Bears again, though, Max. Drew's out for another month.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
And they're saying it's not even anything that has changed with us. Just taken forever to heal. So more hats on deck for Max.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, they just. To me, it all depends on Darius Garland. You know, that he's their barometer because, you know Mitchell's gonna get his, and Evan Mobley has not lived up to what he is. Can Garland be that guy that they had last night? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe he's back, but I just can't get. I just can't. Can't buy in at this point. They were down nine going into the fourth quarter against the Pacers.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
That shouldn't happen.
J. Skeets
Good rally there.
Trey Kirby
But they won.
J. Skeets
One thought from that game. I was watching a lot of that one because it was one of the earlier ones. If Mac McClung is not coming back to the dunk contest.
Trey Kirby
Oh, yeah.
J. Skeets
To try and win again. I think Johnny Furfee is going to.
Trey Kirby
Be in the dunk contest. I was a dunk, right?
J. Skeets
The guy can fly. He can. Yeah. I just have a feeling The Pacers being 6 and 31, too, you know, it's like, hey, go in the dunk contest.
Trey Kirby
Hey, white guy.
J. Skeets
Yeah, exactly. Go in, do some cool dunks, you know, try and win it. I got a feeling like, look, I don't think the NBA is, like, calling the Pacers and Johnny Furby. Like, we got to get you in. But you know how this goes. Like, they ask all the guys and they say, no, no, don't want to do it. No, no, no, thanks. And then you get to your Johnny Furphys is my point.
Tas Melas
Dude, you're getting the fur fee.
J. Skeets
I got a feeling we're getting a furf dog in the dunk contest, and I'm here for it. The guy can fly.
Tas Melas
Mud flap just blowing in the breeze. He's up above the rim.
Trey Kirby
Mac McClung was released by the Pacers, right?
Tas Melas
It don't matter.
J. Skeets
Who cares?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, well, I don't care.
Tas Melas
Bring him back.
J. Skeets
McLug back in the dunk contest. He has jumped over everybody and every vehicle and everything. Like, we don't. He was like. He was good. Like, I will be honest, like, even three times there, it was. It was solid. He put on a show. A lot of times.
Trey Kirby
He's.
J. Skeets
But I don't think we need him again. I hope we don't need him again. I guess what I'm getting, you're saying.
Tas Melas
No return of the Mac.
J. Skeets
No. He's returned two times.
Tas Melas
Yeah, he has. He might do it again.
J. Skeets
I know.
Tas Melas
You never know. He hasn't jumped over. Well, Wemby yet. It's the only guy he hasn't jumped over. A new tall guy around.
J. Skeets
Yeah, you're right.
Tas Melas
George Maron's still available.
J. Skeets
Now we're talking.
Tas Melas
Test is checking every morning. Yeah, still good. Still good.
J. Skeets
We could talk about him just quickly about the Mavericks win at the end because it was close. I don't know how much you guys watched this. This was a very late start for us here on the East Coast. So this was a morning watch for me. Or at least highlights down the stretch. And the Sacramento Kings, they are purposely trying to lose. I'M convinced. Or at least purposely trying to avoid overtime. They have DeMar DeRozan, who is still really good in the clutch, was hitting clutch shots and then they're down two and their shots ended up being Dennis Schroeder airballed three.
Tas Melas
Yeah, that.
J. Skeets
Then they get back and then it goes to Westbrook who takes a, you know, like he gets a. He gets the ball at the three point line. He probably could have shot it right away. He didn't. He waited, he pump faked, you know, and then he takes a shot and he misses. I just think they're like, we don't want to play another five. Like, just go. My point is just go for the win. Like, DeRozan could hit a jumper to get us to overtime. But why we're not getting paid. We're not getting paid overtime for this. I mean, that's the ironic part in the NBA going, so let's just go for the win if we hit it good, and if not, let's go home. I'm telling you, man, I give the.
Tas Melas
Credit to Jason Kidd on that one because DeRozan did make a couple of clutch jumpers. It was going back and forth. Like Williams hit a jumper with a minute 20 left or Rosen hit a three. Cooper flag had a nice lefty with just a few seconds, 54 seconds left. Jarrodin then hits a jumper. So then Jason Kidd says, hey, Anthony Davis, go guard DeMar DeRozan, because he can't just pull up over. You didn't have the shot, drove baseline. That's when he found Schroeder for the airball. And then it bounces out to Westbrook and there's Anthony Davis again on Westbrook. Westbrook didn't want to attack him either. Good challenge. Mavs are 10 and 9 when Anthony Davis plays good record.
Trey Kirby
And it was good to see Cooper flag not hit the rookie wall. I mean, not hit it repeatedly because he's. The last three games, he just hasn't been right. And he's back. He had a solid game. Yeah. And that move that you mentioned on Russell, Westbrook coming from the corner. Then Russell tries to go for the ball. Cooper spins, goes to a lefty hook. That was pretty sweet. And then key pass to Brandon Williams to hit a three there. It was nice. Nice pass.
J. Skeets
Brandon Williams, no hesitation on that three point pole.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, surprisingly.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Because he's climbed to 19.5% from three point land.
J. Skeets
Like he was a 53 point.
Trey Kirby
That was a big shot. Yeah, that was a really good shot for them. But yeah, on the other side. I mean no saponist, whatever. It hurts them but they should win. They should win at home. But I don't know. The Zach Levine doesn't box out Naji Marshall. And then you know DeRozan's disappointing shot to try and tie it. Was it trying to tight or try and win it? The one legged three pointer at the end of the fourth quarter was just a one legged shot, man. I'm telling you, that's a deep shot. They don't one leg. It's a disappointing, disappointing.
J. Skeets
They're 8 and 29. The Sacramento Kings. Remember when we were locking the over.
Tas Melas
It ain't over yet, man. It ain't over yet. We're only halfway through the season. Second half of the Kings. So it goes with 30th in offense if I'm not mistaken. I was like, oh, they'll be good on offense.
J. Skeets
God, that's amazing.
Tas Melas
How are you doing that?
J. Skeets
Yeah, when you look at Tankathon, you got the Pacers 6 and 31. They've lost 13 straight. Then you got the Pelicans who are 8 and 30. They've lost eight straight after they had a win streak. Remember that? Don't worry. That pick going to the Hawks. And then the Sacramento Kings are 8:29. They've lost six straight. And then it goes to double digit win teams like the Wizards, the Nets, you know, the Jazz, the Hornets, stuff like that. I say that because I'm wondering are those going to be the three worst teams when it's all said and done? Because the Wizards did get a win. Anyway, want to talk about them briefly? I know we'll get into the Trey Young trade rumors and the Wizards, but about the game itself.
Trey Kirby
Trey's ready. Trey's ready.
Tas Melas
My one's only on the other side. The Magic haven't won consecutive games since December 1st. That's bad.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tas Melas
Pretty bad.
Trey Kirby
And you go down 26 points to a team that, that you know, the Wizards have play hard, that's for sure. But you go down 26 points, that's just an effort thing. Literally. Jamal Mosley, who's being questioned all the time, had to pull his starters.
J. Skeets
Yes.
Trey Kirby
And the bench did a good job coming back.
J. Skeets
And then he was like, we're sticking with him.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah. Those guys, Jace Richardson, Noah Penda, Nice to say that name. Jonathan Isaac Tyus Jones, Jed Howard, Goga. They got him back. So it's all about coaching and the question about Jamal Mosley and. Yeah, but you can't, you can't go down 26 of the Wizards.
J. Skeets
If you were a coach, what would you do? Exact same scenario. Your team, your starters have no juice. You're getting waxed by one of the worst teams in the league. In the Wizards. You put all the bench guys in, they play their ass off, they get you back into the game. And now a decision has to be made. Do we just run with these guys because they deserve it, because the only reason we're even in a game is because of them? Or do you go back to your starters and say, okay, guys, now you are the better players. Go close this out. I mean, that's a tough decision.
Trey Kirby
Honestly, to me. I go over to the scores table, I grab my leather jacket, I put it on. That's what's what I'm wearing when I make big decisions as a coach. And I say, you guys are staying in. It's my business jacket. You guys are staying in. No, I don't think this.
J. Skeets
He's got a jacket. Decision jacket.
Trey Kirby
I like. I listen, I didn't just come up with. Oh, I did just come up. Know about that. But I did see PJ Washington's leather jacket yesterday and I thought people are weir.
J. Skeets
Braid things around and puts things together is amazing.
Trey Kirby
Well, I do have it in my notes. If we were going to make another additional comment about anything in the NBA last night, it was going to be PJ Washington. Leather jackets are a thing. People wear leather jackets back.
J. Skeets
Leather.
Tas Melas
Leather's back. I would love to get a leather jacket.
Trey Kirby
You would?
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
They're cool. Yeah, Classic. Cool jacket.
Trey Kirby
That's why he's wearing them. I mean, think about. I just feel so hot thinking about it. Think about you and Hasan. I think leathers. Leather jackets are not breathable, period.
J. Skeets
No. God, no.
Trey Kirby
But people say they are, but they're not.
Tas Melas
Anyway, coaches should wear sleeves. That's just something. I think I've seen Quinn Snyder a lot recently wearing a short sleeve polo shirt.
Trey Kirby
Oh, okay.
Tas Melas
Do not want to see coach arms.
Trey Kirby
He does so either.
J. Skeets
You don't even want to see Coach 4 Arms. Wow.
Tas Melas
I don't definitely don't want to see coach elbows.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
He's got just an opinion.
Trey Kirby
He's got hairy forearms. Right? I think, anyways.
Tas Melas
No, no. I don't know.
Trey Kirby
They were. They looked. Okay.
J. Skeets
I do have one more note about the Wizards and this is from hall of Famer David Aldridge. Because Alex Sar went on NBA TV last night after the game, after the win, quality win. And da retweeted the video, the clip of Alex Sar on NBA TV with them. And this is what he said. This will seem wild to some, but little things like this matter to a team that's been clowned nationally for decades. Most of it deserved, to be sure. One of the Wizards young players, young guys after a win over a good team is asked to come on a national post game show. Small moves. That's a hell of a point from Da. That's a small win there for the small win. It is. It is. It's not nothing. I get what he's saying here. And it's good for Alex Sar as well, obviously, as a young guy who's trying to put together some winning basketball in Washington. Good point, Da. That's why he's a Hall of Famer.
Trey Kirby
Absolutely.
J. Skeets
I mean, he's been around this Wizards team too. Oh man, I've never seen a guy on NBA TV from our squad. All right, let's get to some returns. Second returns when it comes to the All Star voting, Luka and Giannis remain your leaders in their respective conferences. In the West, Luca still leads all NBA players with 2.2 million plus votes. The rest of the top five in the west it remains unchanged from the first fan returns. It's Luka, it's Jokic at number two, Stefan number three SGA fourth, Wembanyama fifth and Anthony Edwards stays in sixth place. In the East, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has moved into second place followed closely by Tyrese Maxey in third, Kate Cunningham fourth, Donovan Mitchell fifth and Jalen Brown still sitting in sixth spot behind Mitchell. Just behind Mitchell. Kenny Salsa's dance his way into the fifth spot. I don't think it's going to take long, but any thoughts here on second returns? Because it's pretty similar.
Tas Melas
Very similar. And I don't know why I'm always drawn to the bottom of the ballot. Yeah, Devin Booker too low 17th. That's crazy. He dropped two spots in voting.
J. Skeets
Did he really?
Tas Melas
Despite some big wins and some huge shots, he was passed by, I'm pretty sure. Kawhi Leonard and Cooper Flag I think were the two guys that passed him. But he's 15th in the league in scoring, seventh in clutch points and he's a four time All Star, which kind of, you know, seems to build on itself. I think the Suns have been a great story this season. So. Yeah, that was like a little disappointing to me.
J. Skeets
Okay, any thoughts from you on this?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, Jamal Murray also two loves, low 15th. I think he's a very, very worthy all star to sit 15th is pretty low, but the big News I thought would what we would be leading the second return of the All Star ballot is Scotty Barnes is on there? Oh yeah.
Tas Melas
Hi Scotty.
Trey Kirby
Canada doing some work. He wasn't on there. He's 14th and it's pretty close to Brandon Ingram at 11th and maybe because they are so close they'll cancel each other out when those the all Star reserves will be picked by the coaches and these two guys are not going to be starters. And so when they decide I don't know who am I picking here because the coaches plan their games around Brandon Ingram's offense. I think there's no doubt you see the doubles come from Brandon. He is the better scorer between the two. But I think Scotty Barnes does way more and will earn a lot of people's love. So I don't know who the coaches are going to going to vote for if they pick one of those guys because they are pretty high in the standings right now. So if you got to pick one, I don't know, maybe they cancel each other up.
J. Skeets
Okay. So anyway Darko and Canada and the Raptors nation coming through at least getting them on there. That's a good point. I missed that actually. Good eye. Just so everybody knows, the NBA All Star voting concludes on Wednesday, January 14th at midnight. So one week, one week. One week left to get your fan votes in. I don't think much is going to change at the top here when it comes to doesn't seem like starters. Yeah, I mean I guess maybe, maybe Jalen Brown could jump. Donovan Mitchell, it is close and he was playing well. And Celtics obviously up up in the standings. We'll see. NBC and Peacock will reveal the starters on Monday, January 19th. That's when we learn who the starters are and then we go from there. That's when the fun really begins. That's when we can start picking reserves. Debating that.
Tas Melas
Love it.
J. Skeets
Talking about whether a guy's international or not. Check. You want to talk about the birth certificate? Let's see it.
Tas Melas
NBA All Star Reserves brought to you by 23andMe. We gotta check your stats.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. First I was thinking about Cat when looking at this ballot and maybe because he just had a poor game and wondering is he going to be an All Star? I assume he's having a good year but will he play for team International? I don't know. But I know that it will be on at 5pm Eastern, 2pm Pacific when we'll be doing our I think live stream.
Tas Melas
Oh yeah, we're talking about.
J. Skeets
This All Star Weekend, the dunk contest is going to be back. I can't believe we're gonna do this again. I think the plan, like last year, we did a live watch party for All Stars Saturday. Saturday night from the Factory. And then we did a post podcast. Let's do that again. And then, yeah, Sunday.
Trey Kirby
Nice early for us.
J. Skeets
We got this international twist. We gotta see how that works. There's no Mr. Beast in sight. Well, who knows? He'll probably show up. Nice. He's doing his own thing. His own. Beast Games, I think just premiered season two. He's gonna be on Survivor for crying out loud. Yeah, but we'll do a watch party.
Trey Kirby
He's literally going to be a contestant.
J. Skeets
No, he's going to show up with a brief. What's it called? What's the word? I'm trying to look for that at a challenge. What's that challenge where they bid on things? The auction.
Tas Melas
Survivor auction. That's what he's doing.
J. Skeets
Okay. I think so.
Tas Melas
It seems like it. Home and home. Though. Jeff Probst is hosting something for Beast Game season two as well. Girls, girls. Paused the ad, brought me downstairs. Dad, Jeff is on Beast Games. They just call him Jeff. He's a guy we know.
J. Skeets
So anyway, we'll do a live watch party for this 5 o' clock all Star tournament. Yeah, yeah, yeah, why not?
Trey Kirby
We'll be here. We'll be here.
J. Skeets
Hey, maybe we'll stick around, watch some Winter Olympics after.
Tas Melas
Sure. Save the box. Go in it.
J. Skeets
Why not? Hey, you want to wear leathers for.
Trey Kirby
The All Star game?
J. Skeets
That'd be cool.
Trey Kirby
Too hot.
J. Skeets
Too hot in here. All right, that's. That's enough of the All Star fan returns. Let's take a break and then we'll get into some hypothetical Trey Young trades.
Tas Melas

J. Skeets
One of the funniest things we got into. Got into throw that in air quotes during COVID was marble racing.
Trey Kirby
Oh, yeah.
Tas Melas
Marbula one. Wonder how my o' Rangers are doing.
J. Skeets
I was a Raspberry gang. What a weird thing.
Tas Melas
We watched a lot of those.
J. Skeets
We watched a ton of Marbula one literally racing marbles. I've held onto it a little bit.
Trey Kirby
I follow on.
J. Skeets
No, no, not marbles. I do follow on Instagram. Is it called Tiny Track Racers? It's this guy that, like, races like, Matchbox cars on, like, cool tracks.
Tas Melas
Okay.
J. Skeets
So I get fed that content. Cause I follow it, so it's a similar thing. And I watch every one. Oh, yeah.
Tas Melas
You got a favorite. You know, favorite.
J. Skeets
Oh, there's this Pantone. There was a Pantone. Red car.
Trey Kirby
Pantone.
J. Skeets
Putting together a hell of a win streak. I think it may have hit double digits. Digits. Couldn't be. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Really good. Good speed around the curse. Yeah.
Tas Melas
One of the top things.
J. Skeets
Marbula 1. I think I bought a shirt. Wow. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
That's wild.
J. Skeets
Yeah. It was, like the shittiest shirt. I wore it once. It smelled like vinegar.
Tas Melas
I hate that.
J. Skeets
I hate that.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Tas Melas
When you get it and you can tell it's been printed, like, one second ago.
J. Skeets
Yes. By the way.
Tas Melas
Smell like vinegar, though. I don't get.
Trey Kirby
I don't know.
Tas Melas
Let us know. Screen printers.
J. Skeets
Yeah, yeah. Breaking T shirts for the no dunks merch. You don't got that problem. High quality.
Tas Melas
Smells like shirts.
J. Skeets
Smells like shirts. Smells like Jamie Matram in shirts. Which smells to me. Jamie Matram smells like the beach.
Tas Melas
That's a great point.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
A little sea salt.
J. Skeets
Jesus. If you know who the hell we're talking about, you've been on the Internet forever. Okay. Trey Young and the Atlanta Hawks are headed for a divorce. We discussed this on yesterday's show. The two sides are working together to find a deal ahead of February's NBA trade deadline. So let's grade some trades.
Trey Kirby
Yes.
J. Skeets
We went scouring the Internet for some hypothetical Trae Young trades. Got a lot of these from our guy, Sam Vicini at the Athletic. Kevin Pelton, Zach Cram at espn, Sam Quinn at CBS Sports. They were coming through with a lot of these, so I wanted to pitch them to you guys. To everybody on YouTube, to the podcast listeners, and let's grade them, you know, talk them out. Think they're likely. Think they're better for one team than the other at this stage. Before we get into them, the Hawks aren't likely trading Trae Young for any real value. Right? Okay. They're probably just trying to cap, dump him a little bit before he picks up that $49 million player option for next season. We've gotten to the point where they have picked a direction, the Hawks, it feels like, and that direction does not include Trae Young. And they just want to get off that money and maybe get a pickback, maybe get a player that could help. But it's like these aren't sexy is the point.
Trey Kirby
Well, I think it got a little sexy when the Hawks start throwing in picks into these proposed trades.
J. Skeets
I think that's crazy talk.
Trey Kirby
What?
J. Skeets
That the Hawks are moving on?
Trey Kirby
Well, in a three team deal to be able to get somebody sexy. Not because they're just trying to get rid of Trey, but because of what's coming back in return. Because I think this second deal that we'll get to is not bad at all.
J. Skeets
Okay. Okay. Well, let's start with the first one here because this is the most obvious one. Some sort of form that gets traded. Trey Young traded to the Wizards for basically expiring Money. It's that C.J. mcCollum and that sexy expiring deal. So we'll go with this one. This one's from Sam Vicini. The Wizards received Trey Young, Hawks get CJ McCollum, Corey Kisper, 2026 OKC first round pick. So let's call it what it is. It's probably going to be the 30th pick in the first round and then maybe two second round picks because the Wizards do have a lot of second round draft capital. Tk Great. That trade you were high on this early. You were sort of calling this sort of trade a couple weeks ago. Still a fan of the concept of Trey Young to the Wizards.
Tas Melas
I like it. I would give it an A minus and I think it is great because it's good for Alex Sar. Guy is top 15 in roll, man. Frequen frequency. He likes to set a pick and roll. 30th percentile though in scoring. Not very successful at it. Trey Young on the other side, 13th in ball handler frequency. I was deep in the data. 72nd though percentile in success. He's a great pick and role player. In fact, he needs a pick and roll to really get going on offense. But he's one of the Best Orchestrators out there. You can see how he would help Alex Saar. Then you think about what the Hawks would be getting back in return. CJ McCollum fills in for Trey as a shooter. Can play off ball a little bit more than Trey Young does. I do believe Corey Kispert, fine, like he's just gonna be a depth piece. He can just imagine him and Luke Canard together exciting times here in Atlanta. But Atlanta would end up with the second pick right now, at least depending on how things shake out. They would have the second pick, the 18th pick via Cleveland and then the 30th pick via this OKC thing. Either they draft guys or they use those three picks to acquire a bigger name. I think this makes sense for all both teams though. I've heard some concerns from Wizards fans that are like, why do we want to try and make the play in all the time? Why do we want to accelerate our rebuild just to be a play in team? And to that I say because you haven't been a play in team, you haven't made the playoffs in four years and you haven't won a playoff series in almost 10. So. So trending in the right direction I think is probably an okay thing to happen. So I'm in on this trade and it would be the one I would vote for for the ones we're going to be talking about today.
J. Skeets
Yeah, the Wizards do owe the Knicks a top eight protected pick this year. They currently have the fourth worst record in the league. We recently went over that. The team with the fourth worst record cannot pick lower than eighth. But like Trey said, tas, you know, know, is there concern if you're the Wizards, you add Trey Young, that you're going to like climb too much and like hurt your chances of keeping that pick? I don't think so, not this year. So I don't think that's a real concern.
Trey Kirby
But I don't think they're going to climb too much. And the fact is that they've got so many capable parts. You know, playing around Trey Young in this scenario. You want to help out those guys to some degree, not just be in a losing scenario all the time. You want to put some butts in the seats. I think Trey Young would help do that. They're one of the worst teams in terms of attendance in the NBA. So I, I see nothing wrong with it. I had it as a B plus, but I'm boosting it to an A minus after hearing, you know, Trey's arguments there. Look, Trey's a Talent. Trey Young, not Trey Kirby. But I was gonna say Trey Young is a talented guy. Trey Kirby, also a talented guy. Trey Young on the floor can drop 30, 35 anytime. And this is a commitment for one and a half seasons. It's not a ton, it's not a lot. And you're giving up C.J. mcCollum, you know, towards the end of his career, if you want to turn and deal him in exchange for a draft pick to somebody else, you know, maybe you can do that. You can try and do that. The Corey Kisper thing, you know, part of the rotation and the 30th pick, I see nothing wrong with that. I see Trey helping out guys. Obviously. Alexar, as you said in the pick and rolls, I think he can help Trey Johnson a little bit. He can help Bub Carrington a little bit. Just, just, just to have a ball handler around. Why not? I, I don't see anything wrong with this drill.
J. Skeets
There is some debate about that that I've seen and heard. The addition of Trae Young in Washington, does it supercharge their developmental process with guys like Saar Tre Johnson, Keyshawn George, you guys sounding like you think that is the case. And then some people say no, he might stagnate their developmental process because Trae Young is an offense and to himself and he's got the ball a lot more. And maybe you take reps away from. From some of these other guys. I side more with you guys in this case, but I get some people pushing back saying, yeah, you really want that. You think he's going to help, but he actually may hurt some of these other guys. Not Sar so much, but maybe some of the other. More wing and girls.
Tas Melas
He could be good for Sar. But yeah, you can't deny that most of the Young guys on the Hawks haven't developed while Trey Young has been the leader there.
Trey Kirby
That's fair point. That's a fair point. He has tried to get off the ball a little bit more, but he definitely is. Is the offense. I mean, he. Jalen Johnson, you know, to argue you. He isn't a ball handler at the same time, but he has developed, you.
Tas Melas
Know, so he plays better when Trey is not out there.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, but. Yeah, because he is more of the offense himself, for sure. Yeah, but these other guys that we're talking about in Bub. I don't think Sean George and Trey Johnson.
Tas Melas
Exactly. I also don't think there's a Jalen Johnson on the Wizards.
Trey Kirby
No, but I. Yeah, yeah, that's fair. And they are absolutely Cooking right now. They're absolutely playing well. They absolutely move the ball. And CJ McCollum is really good off the ball and he's part of that offense that is working so well. So I understand the hesitation. I do understand it. Why give up a draft pick even though it is the 30th pick? It's, you know, call it a first round, it's borderline a second rounder. It's. It's pretty frigging high.
J. Skeets
Because that pick. Tell me if I'm wrong. That's like the worst of the Clippers, Rockets and Thunder.
Trey Kirby
I think the first round pick, it's okay, see pick, isn't it their pick?
J. Skeets
Well, it's going to be, is my point. OkC's pick. I thought it, I thought it was a worst.
Trey Kirby
I thought it was just an okay. But maybe you're right. Maybe you're right.
J. Skeets
I think so. I mean, again, this is like semantics. It's like it's going to be OKC because they're going to be the best. Meaning it will be the worst.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Right.
J. Skeets
So anyway, it's a, it's a end of the first round pick.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
J. Skeets
And maybe some second round draft capital. Like we're saying this Trey. And for the Hawks, like, it sort of makes sense. This is what I think they're looking at here. You get off of Trey Young's contract, you retain some flexibility, you do open up cap space. Moving forward, you'd have like nine guys or something like under contract. Moving forward, you'd be adding the Pelicans draft pick, too, which is hopefully high. So there's some wiggle room. It feels like a bit of a win.
Trey Kirby
Win.
J. Skeets
If you're, if your whole point is just to get off of the Trey Young deal. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And to geek it out just a tad bit more, as Mark Stein reported, he doesn't know whether or not the Hawks would have to attach a pick to get off of Trey Young. And I know everyone thinks there'll be a pick given up for Trey Young, but I don't think he just reports that just because. And then he did change his language. I don't know if it's his, Trey Young's agents getting in on it to convince Mark Stein to say, okay, listen, we don't know whether or not they're going to have to give up a pick or whether they'll get a pick. Can you include that? And that's essentially what happened. I don't know if the agents got involved, but that was the wordage going on in that article.
J. Skeets
Well, let's. Okay. They are not, they're not stupid enough to trade. Of course the Pelicans pick. They're holding onto that because that is like unbelievable found money and like they could hit an all time generational player. So they're keeping that. The Atlanta is maybe, maybe if they are swapping picks, they do have the Cavs pick, I believe from the DeAndre hunter of it all. So, you know, Cavs have not been amazing, but that's going to be like somewhere probably between 20 and 30.
Tas Melas
It's like 18 right now.
J. Skeets
Yeah. Okay, so maybe to get off, maybe they swap the OKC pick for that pick. That the Wizards are allowed to then jump up a little bit is my point here. Because hey, we're taking on Trey Young. I still think that's insanity. Like Trey Young is still a really good player. To have to attach a pick is wild to me. But maybe a swap of some sort.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, that's what the Pelicans did with the Hawks last year. They bumped themselves up to get Dairy Queen. Now, yeah, the Cavs pick will be a worse pick than what that Pelicans pick was. But this is supposed to be a deep draft.
J. Skeets
All right, so our next one here, it's similar to the Wizards Hawks deal, but a third team is in the mix. It's a three teamer and it is really the Hawks replacing Trey Young with Anthony Davis. This is how they get here. Wizards get Trey Young, that part remains the same. Hawks receive Anthony Davis and Dwight Powell. The Mavericks get CJ McCollum in that expiring deal. Zachary Reese sashay Corey Kispert and then a 2032 unprotected Atlanta first round pick. I do not like seeing that year on a graphic. 2032, 2032. So Tess grade that trade again similar to the Wizards Hawks deal. But the Mavs get folded in with AD going to Atlanta. Your thoughts? Such a great.
Trey Kirby
I'm a B minus. You know, I, I, I daggled dabbled between C plus, me, B minus. I am starting to come around on it because this is what the Hawks give up. Essentially they give up on Zachary Reese sachet second year player. He's 20. He wants to play more. It seems like. I think he wants more of a role and maybe it happens somewhere else. It just hasn't happened so far in Atlanta. Just, you know, he's super, super young. You could see him getting mad on the sideline because I think he demands more of himself and more of that situation. So are the Hawks giving up on him too early maybe. And then this first round pick unprotected in 2032. That's essentially what they're giving up along with Trey for two and a half seasons of AD because AD is under contract for two and a half seasons. Essentially this plus two more. I mean, he does play half a season, frankly. That's what's going on with Anthony Davis, unfortunately. But it is an upgrade. Obviously, they need a big man who plays games. I mean, Chris, he's replacing Chris Apps Porzingis. It feels like he plays more games than Chris Saps Porzingis. But are they crippling themselves a little bit in that before this season they wanted. They're taking the long route here. They're. They're saying we're not giving Trey Young an extension and we're slow playing it a little bit now. Does this hurt them?
J. Skeets
I don't know.
Trey Kirby
I mean, it's one of those things with Anthony Davis, is he going to play? But what are you getting for Trey Young? And in this scenario, it's the best thing that they could get. It's literally the best player on a basketball floor when he plays basketball that they could get.
Tas Melas
I agree. AD would be the best player that the Hawks could get back for Trey Young. When you compare this to the previous trade, it's like, do you value the flexibility that the Wizards sending the expiring contract of CJ McCollum brings you or do you want Anthony Davis? Anthony Davis is going to be 33 this year.
J. Skeets
Year.
Tas Melas
He'll be 39 in 2032. That means he'll be retired in 2032. You should not trade that pick. However, look at the on off swings for just Kristaps Porzingis. When he plays, The Hawks are plus 7 points per 100 possessions, 80s better than Kristaps Porzingis. So he would certainly elevate the team. He would give them defense. He would give them offense as well. You can see the argument for the Hawks there. If they want to. To stay competitive rather than this being kind of a glorified salary dump. So I think for this trade, I'm a task. I'm like, this is a B minus. Wizards say yes for sure because they're giving up even less in this one to still get Trey Young. I think the Mavs would probably say yes to this.
J. Skeets
I think it's not that bad.
Tas Melas
Yeah, exactly. Like you get CJ to run around with a Cooper flag for the end of this year, have a professional point guard out there. He can play alongside Kyrie Irving. I would think they would be flexible flammable on defense, that backcourt, but at least they'd be cool to watch on the offensive side. Take a chance on recesse. Disappointing season, I think. But he fits nice with Cooper. Flag doesn't need the ball that much, just stands around, shoots threes. And they got good size between the two of them and the Hawks. For me this would be a no. But I could see why they would do it. You know, they're four games out of the sixth seed right now. You get Anthony Davis, you can talk yourself into being a top six team in the Eastern Conference. I'm not saying anything better than the top six, but that would still be an improvement.
J. Skeets
Yeah, look, he would transform the Hawks defense. I'm with you on that. And tell me the last time the Hawks had a good defense, an above average defense.
Tas Melas
It's got to be Horford Millsap days.
J. Skeets
I think it's like Dwight Howard, Cephalocha Days, 2016, 17. That was the last time they had a good defense. Above average defense, not even good. That was good. That was a good Hawks team. We were here. This is a decade ago.
Trey Kirby
Basically the 21 year. The way they went to the conference finals was like a 20th ranked defense, I guess.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
With Capella and John Kong.
J. Skeets
Anytime Trey Young's been on the team, they've had a bad defense overall. I mean, he's a liability of course, but yeah, that's what they would be doing here. And with you guys. I think Sam asked the question though. Would you rather bet on a 33 year old Anthony Davis staying healthy, being paid a decent amount to help your defense or do you like your alternative in free agency, which is like Mitchell, Robinson, maybe Hartenstein, maybe, you know, like those quality players. That's what you're debating, right? It's whether or not they like, hey, there's an opening here. We want to get into playoff games, make gate money, be somewhat competitive. I think you get A.D. or basically swap Trae Young for A.D. yeah, I think you're there. I think you're. You should be. And I think he would help out tremendously defensively. Like, they are small. They get cooked on that end. There's no paint presence. Like, I like a Kongwu, but he's. It's not. You can't completely hold down the ford on a defense. AD can. It's okay. You guys were B. You said you didn't mind it.
Tas Melas
B minus.
J. Skeets
B minus.
Trey Kirby
B minus. I don't mind. Yeah.
J. Skeets
Talking it out here.
Trey Kirby
The Hawks are definitely looking for a center. There's no doubt. You know, I brought up the the Nick Claxton possibility from the Brooklyn Nets. Like that type of that level of player, I think that's more affordable. Yeah, very, very affordable. Whether the Nets would be willing to give him up, I don't know. He's not in rumors. He's just in my rumors that that the Nets would be willing to give up Nick Claxton.

J. Skeets
All right, let's go to this one. The Raptors upgrading their point guard. Raptors get Trey Young and Luke Kennard. Hell yeah.
Tas Melas
We the nard.
J. Skeets
We the nerd. The Hawks get Emmanuel Quickley. RJ Barrett and two future first round picks. So this is again, Raps upgrading, if you want to call it that, quickly for Young, but it would cost some RJ Barrett. Cost them, in theory, draft capital. Again, this is. We're not coming up with this. I think this one is from Sam Bassini as well. And I think he even thought this one's unlikely. So who wants to start with this one? You're a Raptors fan, what do you think?
Trey Kirby
I'm willing to grade this above an F at a D minus, so don't love it.
J. Skeets
Yeah. And again, Sam in his credit was like, this is not likely.
Trey Kirby
Just does not feel right at all. That's it. That's not enough for the Raptors. I mean, what they would be doing here, it's not right. It's not enough. They, they, they want. You think it's not enough from the Hawks side?
Tas Melas
Yeah, I mean, I think it's a no for both.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
But I, I thought Atlanta would say no first, but I, I don't know.
Trey Kirby
Two first round picks.
J. Skeets
Yes.
Trey Kirby
Plus a point guard who plays basketball. Plus RJ Barrett.
Tas Melas
I mean, got to pay Barrett.
Trey Kirby
Gotta pay him.
Tas Melas
Quickly's got a long contract.
J. Skeets
He does, he does. That's why I think two future first round picks are in here. One is hypothetically for Trey and the other is to actually get off the Quickly.
Tas Melas
Yes.
J. Skeets
Long term money. That's how I think. You get to two or Sam gets to two. That's the thinking.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
I can't see the Raptors offense just saying it's working really well right now. Let's give up two parts of it for Trey and see what happens. I mean, that's. It sounds nice.
J. Skeets
And hey, we're actually, you know, playing defense here. We're getting back to that. Oh, let's bring in the worst defensive.
Trey Kirby
Player and the guy in, Emmanuel Quickley who's finally playing for them. Since they made that trade, this has been the best run that he's had. He's playing consistently since the beginning of the season, frankly, you know, whether or not he's missed games doesn't matter. When they got him, he wasn't. And so they signed him to a big deal. He's playing basketball. And it would be, it would be hard. It would be a hard trade. Trade hard.
J. Skeets
Unfortunately, with Trey Young's trade value at the level it is right now, a fair question is like, is Quickly better than Trey Young this year?
Trey Kirby
Right.
J. Skeets
Maybe. Or at least not a year for Trey. Yeah. And he makes. Well, what is, what is quickly make 30 plus. Now he does have a flat contract, I think. I don't think it increases at all. That's good. Cap goes up, you know, it is nice. It's not obviously what Trey's going to be commanding, but. Yeah, okay. We're not. We're saying no. You threw a D on it. Trey is like both teams saying no. All right, Bucks. The Bucks try and keep Giannis happy. Round four. That'd be round four.
Trey Kirby
I don't know.
J. Skeets
Round three or four, at least. Bucks get Trey Young. Hawks receive Kyle Kuzma, Bobby Portis, Gary Harris and a 2031 first round pick. That pick that Tas Melis keeps talking about. Hey, man, Giannis ain't going anywhere. They're going to use it, get more talent.
Trey Kirby
Talent.
J. Skeets
How do you grade it?
Trey Kirby
The Milwaukee Bucks do not have a lot to trade. They gotta give up this pick if they want to give up something to make it Yanis as happy as possible. But I grade this a C minus. What's coming back here is. Is not what they need. They need more in return. I think they need a two way wing. Even their old guy Doc Rivers can't play Tayshawn Prince anymore, so he might help. Yeah, he would help. Help any they need, anything. I think what would be a better trade for them is going to get Jeremy Grant or a potential Malik Monk. I know he's not the wing that they need, but just somebody like that, I don't think this is the right move for them.
J. Skeets
They would have no wings if they traded Kuzma Bobby. Yeah, like nobody in the wing next to nobody. Yeah, but they get Trey Young, tk and maybe that's enough to keep Yanis happy.
Tas Melas
Bucks say yes. Yes, please.
J. Skeets
For this, the package.
Tas Melas
Yes.
Trey Kirby
Hawks say no.
Tas Melas
I do believe.
J. Skeets
Okay, Hawks that are like, we can do better than a Kyle, Bobby and Gary.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Yeah, but man, I was. I'm. I'm deep in the lineup. Data. This is how good Giannis ontokounmpo is. Kuzma, Portis and Giannis play together. They're plus 21 points per 100 possessions. Only 81 minutes Giannis has been banged up. You take giannis off, they're minus 13 points per 100 possessions. That's a 34 point score swing just from Giannis. If you go Kuzma without the other two guys, minus seven. Portis without the other two guys, minus two. Giannis without the other two guys, plus eight. Giannis is awesome.
Trey Kirby
Yes. Yeah. And that's why I don't think they give up this Much. Even for Trey Young, that's not much. Well, they need these guys. They need role players. They need players. They don't have anything.
Tas Melas
Bring back T.J. p.J. Tucker called him T.J. pucker. Well, PJ, TJ Pucker and Tayshawn Prince can play the wing for these guys.
Trey Kirby
Guys, I, I know Bobby is old, but Kuzma is playing anybody out there defensively like he is out there. They put him on anyone they, they say guard, a point guard, guard, anyone. You put Trey Young out there instead, it's going to be a problem. And then he takes the ball out of Ryan Rollins's hands. I, I just, I just don't like the whole chemistry thing. Again, they need parts. They're just so shallow. And so to give up bodies for a tray. I don't think it really makes any sense. Again, I think a big wing is, is the number one priority. And I, I, I didn't mention Zach Levine's name because I don't think it's Zach. I think it's a two way guy.
J. Skeets
And again, does RJ Barrett fit that mold to you as a two way guy and not as much better than obviously a score? Yeah, because I, I ask you that because an alternate trade package. An alternate trade package from CBS involves the previous two hypothetical deals. Basically, it's a three teamer that sees the Hawks get quickly Abaji, Garrett, Temple, so not a lot. Raptors get Trey Kuzma and then some sort of like first round swap and the Bucks get RJ Barrett. That was from Sam Quinn. So he's like melding the two together. Trey goes to the wraps, Bucks get RJ Barrett and the Hawks. Hawks get nothing to me, but they get off of trade off.
Trey Kirby
So anyway, yeah, I think RJ Barrett would help their offense. There's no doubt. Janice needs a talented guy besides him. RJ is super talented. You see what he's done for the Raptors offense now. Again, they can't guard anybody. So I think Kuzma has helped in that regard. At least they know who they're throwing out there. And rj, you know, he doesn't have the height that Kuzma has. I mean, he's just, that's, that's the unfortunate part. At least Kuzma, you're throwing out a body. So that's, that's the reluctant part. You want a real two way guy that could do both. It's asking a lot. The Bucks don't have a lot of options here.
J. Skeets
I got one more for you. Now I don't have A Nets trade. I don't have a Clippers trade. I've seen those out there, a few other teams. But I wanted to give you this one, because anytime a point guard's name comes up, the Wolves do get mentioned. They can maybe use a point card. So this one from Sam Vicini at the Athletic. Wolves get Trey Young, Hawks get nas Reed, Dante DiVincenzo, Mike Conley, and my guy Leonard Millard. A plus for the Hawks if they get Leonard Miller. I'm telling you, he did a dunk last night. He did do a dunk. What do you think, TK like, it's tough to find a trade for the Wolves because they. It's. They're. They're an apron team.
Tas Melas
Exactly.
Trey Kirby
Right.
J. Skeets
Well, anyway, what are your thoughts?
Tas Melas
I think the Hawks say no to this and the Timberwolves say no, but call us in the off season.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
This is just too many players, literal number of players to give up. For the Timberwolves, it would leave them with a rookie as their backup center.
J. Skeets
It would. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Get rid of their, like, locker room leader and Mike Conley. It would make their shooting worse. Losing Reed and Divincenzo, like, these are guys that are massive players for them who just chuck up threes. And that's kind of important around Gobert and Randall. Not to mention Anthony Edwards, who shoots a ton of threes as well. I can see it making sense why you would want to put Trey next to Anthony Edwards, especially considering Gobert could probably cover.
J. Skeets
Yeah, we'd really test that defensive player.
Tas Melas
Exactly.
J. Skeets
Right.
Tas Melas
Exactly. He could lock in defensive Player of the year. So I think this one's probably a no for both, but the Timberwolves might be interested after the season when they can do a move and then, like, find reserves as well.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. It's given up too much of who they are. I mean, really, that Trey broke it down really well. Your bigs. Your heart in. In terms of your backcourt, which you would be just experimenting with here mid season. Trey and Ant. Yes, in theory. I started thinking about it. It could work, but it is a lot of who they are right here, right now. They'd made that risk last year before training camp with Carl Anthony Towns, and it worked. But that was before training camp. This is. This is a real. Yeah, we'll see if it works. I'm right here right now at the middle of the season when they're. They are cooking. They. Yes, they're, you know, sixth in. In the Western Conference standings, but it would be hard to, I think, to just Yank the rug out of underneath them. At this point, it doesn't make sense to me.
J. Skeets
Very unlikely. I'm with you. That the Wolves get in the Trey Young business at least before the deadline, which is in a month. All right, that's five trades. Let's hear from you guys on YouTube. Let us know in the comments some of your favorite hypothetical Trey Young trades or your favorite from this bunch. The one that makes the most sense. Shout out to everybody working that trade machine. That thing's smoking right now.
Tas Melas
No doubt.
J. Skeets
You got a favorite trade machine machine? Yes.
Tas Melas
The big three of trade machines, of course, are ESPN Fan, SPO and SPO Track.
J. Skeets
I like Spotrek.
Tas Melas
Yeah, it's the best one.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I agree.
J. Skeets
I don't even use the ESPN one anymore. I can't even trust it. I'm like, I don't know.
Tas Melas
Yeah, it's the George Mike in a trade machines.
J. Skeets
It is. It's, like, hasn't been updated. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
J. Skeets
And Fanspo's okay.
Tas Melas
Yeah, exactly.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
It's a good run. I mean, it's still around. It's still around. I go to it as my second one, though. So it's. It's.
Tas Melas
You're not a fan guy.
Trey Kirby
Not a fan. But they peaked last year. It feels good.
Tas Melas
Yeah, they had a good year last year.
J. Skeets
Let's make that short. That's a good short. Rank the trade.
Tas Melas
The trade machines.
J. Skeets
Kind of funny. Lite Lite of the night. I always have to turn to my guy TK now to find out whether or not it's sponsored.
Tas Melas
No, not today.
J. Skeets
Unsullied from sponsorship since yesterday. Apologies to Trey Murphy iii. He did have a good game.
Trey Kirby
Oh, yeah.
J. Skeets
Maybe he was trying to showcase himself for the trade deadline. I think we've just said Trey too many times in this show, too, with Trey Kirby. And now Trey Young snuck in a little Trey Johnson there, so. Trey Murphy. I'm sorry. We gotta give it to the old guy. LeBron James, Willboy of the night. Come on, man. Come on.
Tas Melas
Oldest player to ever get a. Whoa, boy.
J. Skeets
100%. The old man scored 30 points, shot 10, 19 from the field, three of five from deep, seven to seven at the line, eight rebounds, eight assists. Game high, two steals. And he had one block as well. Maybe a turnover or two. He was a positive on the court last night, and they got the win. So. Come on, man. He's 41 years old. You're gonna. You're gonna miss. Hey, you're gonna miss LeBron when he's gone.
Trey Kirby
I've Heard that. That's true. Yeah, that's. That's 100 true. You know what's also true? Since I like plugging things like our NBA insider, Michael Scotto coming in tomorrow. We'll be doing that live watch for All Star Weekend. Also, we'll be selling a Wo Boy tomorrow that's guaranteed. Oh, really Planned. I mean, it's 99%.
J. Skeets
They haven't paid yet.
Trey Kirby
And then boom.
J. Skeets
Invoiced.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, we've had a conversation. It's going to happen tomorrow. And then boom. Today's comes in just as I say. Say that. Just as I say that.
J. Skeets
I would say it's too late.
Trey Kirby
It's too late.
J. Skeets
Well. Well, like this person. Yeah, we can push them. Cool down the line.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, this is cool.
J. Skeets
All right. Cool.
Trey Kirby
Cool.
J. Skeets
Ram, you just missed it.
Tas Melas
He says I'll take it. Oh, he's giving away a little, boys.
Trey Kirby
I'll take War Boy then.
J. Skeets
For how much?
Trey Kirby
10 Canadian dollars.
J. Skeets
Oh, go. You son of a. All right, well, call your. Your in line here. We'll give you one. Don't worry. I love what this is become.
Tas Melas
I'll take it.
J. Skeets
Pick them, Pick them. Tasks. We got a million games on tonight, Chunky. So many games on.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I thought an interesting one was Toronto going into Charlotte favored by two and a half points. They just had a game a few weeks ago. Charlotte beat them by 25 points. This is their fourth game of the season here.
J. Skeets
Yep.
Trey Kirby
And Toronto's really good against eastern conference teams. 19 and 10.
J. Skeets
That's great. Not that great against the hornets though.
Trey Kirby
No. 1 and 2.
J. Skeets
Yeah, but one was overtime too.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. I will say, Trey, your stat yesterday of the lamelo. Brandon Miller and Conan.
Tas Melas
Yep.
Trey Kirby
That they're. They're great together. So they're good together. So I guess that's why you guys took them. Maybe you guys are both taking the Charlotte Hornets to win at home or lose by two or less. I guess. Wraps. Only taken by myself to win three by three or more.
J. Skeets
Yeah, you tried to get me. You tried to get me. I know what you're doing.
Trey Kirby
You think. You think I did this to be able.
J. Skeets
Yeah, you're like, oh, Raptors fans gonna take the Raptors. Look at that small line. And you might be right. But they just don't play the whole Hornets. Well, man, it's gone back for a while now. I don't know what it is. Hornets back to the Jeremy Lamb days of it all. That guy's hitting buzzer beaters left and right against us.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, but hold on. I gotta Understand the thinking. What do you mean? I was trying to get you. I put. I put that.
J. Skeets
Oh. I just mean.
Tas Melas
I put Raptors at Hornets or.
J. Skeets
I mean, Skeets is gonna pick Raptors, like.
Trey Kirby
But I picked Toronto immediately.
J. Skeets
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tas Melas
That's why.
J. Skeets
That's why you're wrong.
Tas Melas
He can go either way. Yeah, I. I think I thought you would go horn Hornets or Raptors.
J. Skeets
Of course he did. Everybody is. Everybody out there right now is going, what's wrong with this guy? That box really had an impact on him.
Tas Melas
This guy's going box crazy.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
J. Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I think the Raptors will have a little revenge for losing by 25.
J. Skeets
I mean, that'd be nice.
Trey Kirby
That was horrendous. But the Hornets should be playing all three of their guys. What's the record? Sorry. With the three of them playing 9 and 5.
J. Skeets
9 and 4. 9 5. Brandon Miller is game time, though, I think. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Bad shoulder.
J. Skeets
Shoulders. Shoulders.
Tas Melas
Getting shoulder.
J. Skeets
Okay, so Hornets plus two and a half. They are home dogs. Raps got one by three. And, you know, this is early here in the month of January, so big game here to maybe separate some of us.
Trey Kirby
Whoa.
J. Skeets
JD Wants to wrap this up. Get the hell out of here.
Trey Kirby
No, no, no, I understand. You're right.
J. Skeets
But this is a long show. Jesus.
Tas Melas
We love talking about trades.
J. Skeets
Yeah, yeah. People usually like us talking about trades, too. People love trades.
Tas Melas
Absolutely.
Trey Kirby
They do.
Tas Melas
Movement.
J. Skeets
So it'd be nice if we get an emergency podcast or two as we get up to the trade deadline. Don't do it all at once, either. Space it out a little bit. Give us a Trae Young trade, maybe give us an Anthony Davis trade. You know, we'll do an emergency podcast.
Trey Kirby
Okay. We got.
Tas Melas
We got JK coming up soon. Jonathan available to be traded in eight days.
J. Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
Tas Melas
That'd be our first trade of the year. Or first trade of the deadly line, at least. I don't remember what kicked it off last year. The Luca trade was early.
J. Skeets
Yeah. What came before that, though?
Tas Melas
I don't know.
J. Skeets
All it takes. We need one, right? Because then the Dom start falling. Yeah. All right, well, we're going to be here tomorrow with NBA insider Michael Scotto. He's going to join tomorrow's show. Talk about a lot of slop. Let's be honest. A lot of these trade rumors.
Trey Kirby
Kaminga for sure. Trey Murphy for sure, right? Yeah, Trey Young for sure.
J. Skeets
Okay.
Trey Kirby
And we're leading with Giannis. Cause.
J. Skeets
For sure.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, Yeah, I think so. That's the plan.
J. Skeets
All right, well, Michael Scotto joining us on no Dunks tomorrow. Can't wait for that. Hope to see you at 10am Eastern live on YouTube, if not obviously up on YouTube later for you and you podcast listeners up on Apple, Spotify, wherever you download and listen to no Dunks. That's tomorrow. Until then, clip a bro.
Tas Melas
You heard it here first. Have a great time. Turn up.
J. Skeets
Love you guys. Awesome.
Trey Kirby
Thanks for joining us. And remember that Luka Doncic trade happened. What day do you think it happened?
Tas Melas
February 2nd.
Trey Kirby
That's correct. Well, that's not super early. When you said early, I thought you.
Tas Melas
Meant before the deadline.
J. Skeets
I thought it was earlier.
Trey Kirby
It's happened before the deadline. That's when trade's going to happen.
Tas Melas
It was the weekend before, right? Like it was. Like, was it, Was it a Saturday?
Trey Kirby
It was Friday or Saturday. Overnight. Overnight Saturday. Right. It's leading.
J. Skeets
I think so. Yeah, that sounds right.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I think we've got it here. Sunday, February 2, 2025, according to Google. You know, this could be a Gemini. Who knows? But that's what it says. So it was filed with the NBA Eastern time. So that's where they file it after midnight. But you know, I think it could have been filed before PT Pacific time. Okay, cool story, Cool stuff.
J. Skeets
We'll make sure to ask Michael Scotto about that. The filing of these. What were you doing?
Trey Kirby
Okay.
Tas Melas
What were you doing when Luca Donchos got traded?
J. Skeets
So just before we go, you're saying we really didn't do an emergency podcast then because it happened during the night. We just did it the next morning.
Tas Melas
I hit the shed.
J. Skeets
Oh, he first never shed. Yes.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
J. Skeets
Good reminder. Okay.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tas Melas
Historic night, man. Historic night in the NBA. We got a new all time vote leader like Luca Doncho is going to lead all star voting for a decade now. Dude's the leading scorer in the NBA playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
J. Skeets
Yeah, probably.
Tas Melas
It was one of the biggest trades we'll ever see.
J. Skeets
It was. But was it Saturday night or Sunday night?
Tas Melas
Well, it was Saturday night. Like Saturday night if you didn't go to bed. It was Saturday night.
J. Skeets
Yes. It was that late. Yeah, yeah, it was that late. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Tas Melas
I was in my jammies.
J. Skeets
Are you in your jammies?
Tas Melas
I was in my jammies.
J. Skeets
What were you watching?
Tas Melas
Now that's a mystery.
J. Skeets
I don't know. Yeah, I wonder. Like you maybe. Maybe you were reading a book.
Tas Melas
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I hadn't tucked into a book late Saturday night.
Trey Kirby
But we did do a podcast later on the Sunday.
J. Skeets
Oh, we did. Yeah. Okay. Okay, okay.
Tas Melas
Just ask it.
J. Skeets
Maybe.
Trey Kirby
Still. It was still an AM 2am's 2am podcast. Wow.

Episode Title: LeBron Bends The Knee, Latest All-Star Votes & Trae Young Trade Ideas
Date: January 7, 2026
Hosts: J. Skeets, Tas Melas, Trey Kirby, JD
Podcast: No Dunks (iHeartPodcasts)
The crew breaks down key NBA games from the previous night—with a focus on LeBron James’ dynamic with Luka Doncic on the Lakers, Victor Wembanyama's return, the Wolves' dominance, and big-picture trade talk. The second half dives into All-Star ballot returns, debates on LeBron’s All-Star legitimacy, and a meaty grading of hypothetical Trae Young trades, before wrapping with signature playful banter on basketball minutiae.
(02:18–14:35)
LeBron James delivered 38 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists in a win over the Pelicans, and publicly called Luka Doncic the franchise star:
"Luka is our franchise for this ball club. He don’t need to bend his game. It’s up to us to bend our game around him and figure it out.” (03:01, LeBron via Skeets)
Hosts agree LeBron’s willingness to defer ("bending the knee") is unprecedented in his career:
“A lot of respect from LeBron. Somewhat. Bending the knee to Luka for the first time in his career to another guy, I think that was cool.” (04:18, Trey Kirby)
Noted how LeBron has increasingly assumed ‘number two guy’ duties: setting screens, technical glue plays, and how that could elevate the Lakers’ ceiling.
Stat focus: Lakers remain perfect in clutch games (13-0), yet have the second-fewest clutch minutes—impressive, but contextually odd. (09:05–10:29)
Vintage LeBron remains All-Star caliber, especially during this recent win streak (averaging 29 PPG at 59% FG).
(15:18–22:28)
“First lead of the fourth quarter that they had and they yanked him. It’s stupid.” (16:26, Tas Melas)
"The fact is we play down to the level of the opponents. The good thing is we can match up with anybody and look everybody in the eyes. But the bad thing is we look everybody in the eyes and sometimes we should just put people away." (19:31, Wemby via Skeets)
(26:33–29:37)
“We need to start getting ready for Rudy Gobert to win his fifth Defensive Player of the Year award. I don’t think it’s that far-fetched.” (28:03, Skeets)
(11:41–13:53, 44:15–48:38)
“He’s Greg Maddux at the end of his career. Every night he doesn’t have his best stuff, but he has enough to win. I’m his catcher…he tells me to f--- off and calls his own pitch, which is fine, too.” (12:56, Reddick via Skeets)
(52:33–79:37; timestamps approximate as subject blends through ads/breaks)
- Wizards get: Trae Young
- Hawks get: CJ McCollum (expiring), Corey Kispert, 2026 OKC 1st (likely 30th), two 2nds
- **Grades:**
- Tas: “A–” (“Helps both, especially Wizards’ pick-and-roll with Alex Sarr”)
- Trey: “B+, boosted to A– after argument. Puts butts in seats, finally gives DC a chance.” *(54:56–58:54)*
- Minor concerns about Young “stagnating” other young Wizards, but general consensus is positive.
- Wizards: Trae Young
- Hawks: Anthony Davis, Dwight Powell
- Mavs: CJ McCollum, Kispert, Atlanta unprotected 2032 1st (yikes)
- **Grades:** Both Tas & Trey: "B–"
- Best actual player Hawks could get; improves defense, but the 2032 unprotected pick is scary. Fit for all teams debated. Wizards happily say yes as price is even lower. *(62:24–65:45)*
- Hosts honest: “Does not feel right at all. Not enough for Raptors. Both teams probably say no.” *(71:18–72:47)*
- *Grade:* D– (Trey)
- Unlikely, and the Raps finally have an offense/defense balance that Trae could disrupt.
- C– (Trey): “Not what Bucks need—need 2-way wing, not to strip all wings for Trae. Hawks can probably do better.” *(73:43–76:04)*
- “No from both.” Too much structure and chemistry sacrificed for Wolves midseason.
- “Call us in the offseason.” *(77:52–79:37)*
On LeBron deferring to Luka:
"Somewhat. Bending the knee to Luka for the first time in his career to another guy." (04:18, Trey Kirby)
On All-Star Games and aging greatness:
“He’s doing this at 41 years old. You’re gonna miss LeBron when he’s gone.” (81:14, Skeets)
On Wemby’s leadership quote:
“The fact is we play down to the level of the opponents…The good thing is we can match up with anybody and look everybody in the eyes. But the bad thing is we look everybody in the eyes and sometimes we should just put people away.” (19:31, Wemby via Skeets)
On hypothetical trade overload:
“People love trades... Would be nice if we get an emergency podcast or two as we get up to the trade deadline. Don’t do it all at once, either. Space it out!” (85:19, Skeets)
This episode captures NBA January in full swing: surging aging stars, rookie debuts, looming trade talk, and the All-Star race. The Wizards-Hawks Trae Young trade is highlighted as the cleanest fit. LeBron’s mentorship of Luka is celebrated; Wemby’s leadership and the Spurs’ growing pains are dissected. The crew’s blend of stats, banter, and honest trade machine fever makes for a lively, informative ride—bringing you up to speed on basketball’s present and many possible futures.
