But first, we're going to start with Vegas Summer League because the top two players in the 26 NBA Draft squared off on day one of Vegas Summer League. Number one pick AJ DeBona led all players 27.7 boards in 26 minutes to power the Wizards to the 9,288 win. Why did I tell you the score of a summer league game? Nobody cares who wins or loses.

Number two pick Darren Peterson finished with 24. But I do want your thoughts on this battle of the top two seats.

Hey it went down to the wire.

Who cares?

[Tas Melas]

No, of course it does not. But it. There was a battle between the two of them with a minute 22 seconds left when DeBonsa pulled Peterson's arm. Peterson kind of got mad at it, that's true. But then DebonSA, big enough to go to the bench and not play the rest of the game in a summer league game, he just literally got pulled. Yeah, he had a cramp.

[Trey Kirby]

Yeah. He was rubbing his leg, saying his leg hurt.

[Jay Skeets]

Yeah.

[Tas Melas]

Oh, that was weird.

[Jay Skeets]

I don't think it was by choice.

That's why he fouled Peterson, so he could go to the bench and rub his.

[Tas Melas]

That's why they called it a take foul. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He said he was cool with it. I will say, though, I'm totally fine with my pre draft prediction saying that Peterson should have gone one even though he played poorly. Still sticking with that because debona still scored. But I will say his strength, his speed looked really, really good going by Orlando Robinson. Yeah, he's going by a super slow guy plenty of times getting to the rim, that beautiful dunk. But he's not as smooth as my Peterson. He was 2 of 13. 2 of 13.

And I say that because he was 2 of 13 outside the paint. Debona just. He's not as smooth going through his shots. While I thought Utah, they're giving Peterson the ball to start every possession, which was really weird. The Wizards playing great defense to get out on him, to pressure him. Watkins was really good, but he's not the point guard. He was playing without a point guard. Essentially, he was the. The whole guy, the whole team. And he just did not overall play as well. He had eight turnovers because he was playing the point guard. But then he started to get it going. So in this game, yeah, DeBonso looked better. And it was just. It was just odd to see the way they played Peterson. Like, he. He was kind of bringing forward what he did in the Utah Summer League and being the guy and the only guy. And he's not going to do that when it gets to actual play, but either way, a fun one that went down to the wire.

I mean, both guys not shy.

[Trey Kirby]

No.

By any stretch of the imagination. Debons, a seven of 18 shots that he hit, missed all five of his threes, got to the line a ton, and we got this new, just one free throw thing, too, to count for two. Finished with two assists and two steals. Peterson, 6 of 18 for the game, missed 5 of 7 from deep, eight turnovers like you said. I also think he had nine personal fouls. Summer league, baby.

Yeah, a lot of stats. What do you think, TK what was your reaction watching this game or the highlights?

[Trey Kirby]

They're both going to be very good. Yeah, I think. And look, when you're comparing their performances last night, the Jazz are so far ahead of the Wizards for, from like a, a rebuild standpoint that their summer league team is worse. Meanwhile, you've got Trey Johnson and Will Riley playing really well for the wizard. So AJ didn't have to do it all. But man, this guy looks like he is going to be a scorer instantly in the league. He looks so fluid. It looked like he was getting downhill anytime he wanted to. You say 2 for 13 away from the rim. That means he went 5 for 5 at the rim and he was getting to the rim. He was drawing fouls. He's already got the grifting gene activated. In his very first NBA experience, he took a lot of midi's, he took a lot of free throws. I did think it was pretty interesting to see how often he was initiating the offense for the Wizards because they did just give Trey Young $200 million. So he's going to be handling the ball a ton. And it looks like debona is definitely capable of it. But I really liked what I saw from him. He looks like a man. And I would say Darren Peterson looks like a man as well. He's got great size as a guard. He, from watching this one game, you know, he looks more like a 2 to me than a 1. He was creating space. He was just bricking away. His two three point makes were both kind of lucky. Like one was a grenade I think at the end of the first half and the last one was like a 37 footer. They just chucked up at the buzzer. So he didn't play very great. But like I said, he's got hardly any team around him, especially compared to a Wizards team that's sending, you know, a bunch of first rounders out there. So I thought fun to see both of these guys going at each other. And pretty funny that debonza had to leave the game for a cramp when that was what was the problem with Darren Peterson all year. Kansas.

[Jay Skeets]

These guys need to drink more water, man. At one point late in the second quarter too, it was a fun moment in this game. Peterson got switched on to debaza and the crowd started to like Cheer and that hype build in the. In the building, the Thomas and Mack center there. And they sort of went at it one on one. I think DeBonta sort of drove and he spun back. He got a look. He created some separation, but he missed that shot. But I always love when that happens, when the swelling in the crowd as they get excited for these two guys. And this is the fourth time over the last, what, two and a half years that these two guys had matched up or their teams had matched up and played against each other in every outing. Peterson had the better game to debonso until this one. I think we could say that he definitely had the better one last year.

[Tas Melas]

And he was motivated from the get go. While it felt like DeBonta, it just was a little. Excuse me. Peterson was a little slow. Fixed his hair after Will Riley beat him on a fast break in a minute into this game. He wasn't locked in after coming, you know, from the Utah Summer League, if that has anything to do with it. Played multiple games while the Bunsa hadn't played a game in four months. As he said post game, post game in his interview, I haven't played in a long time, man.

March 10th. I got bounced in the first round.

That was very funny. Uh, yeah, he looks good.

Rest versus rust in summer.

[Tas Melas]

Holy crap. Yeah, well, the rust worked out. Uh, he. He looked awesome.

[Trey Kirby]

He was playing a lot through contact, and I thought that was part of the problem for Peterson is the. The Wizards came out and said, you got Jameer Watkins on you, and Jameer Watkins is going to foul you up and down the court as much as he can, forcing Peterson to play through physicality as well. And it's just going to be something that both of these guys have to learn. And I thought debonza was a little better about it last night.

He was.

[Trey Kirby]

He's huge.

He's huge.

He's huge for a guy that can handle the ball like that.

[Jay Skeets]

Yeah. And I really. He also needs to. He needs to get better with his handle. And he will. Why wouldn't he? Because he likes to do. He's a big chicken wing guy. He's the. Winnie's like, dribbling. He likes to put out the other arm. Maybe because he lacks a little confidence in his dribble, being that size, but he'll get better. Yeah. Both these guys are. They look like they're going to be star players in this league. Bunch of Wizards sitting courtside. Yeah, two Trey Young there. Anthony Davis, deandre Ayton. He's on the Wizards. Alex Sar. Bub Carrington, Keshan George to watch the number one pick and some of these other guys, Will Riley playing in this game and so on.

Yeah. More teams are getting there. More and more. Oh, my God. Over the last few years, like, just like the Pelicans are practicing, the entire squad's there. Yeah.

So that's.

Okay. Any other thoughts on those two top two picks going at it?

[Trey Kirby]

Not about the top two picks, but I think that had to be an encouraging night for the Wizards. I think they had all of their roster players show up for the game last night. So, you know, Anthony Davis is a question mark. Will he be on the team? He was there. Did he look thrilled to be there? I don't know if he would say that, but he was there. That's good. And then I thought Trey Johnson and Will Riley were the two best players on the court.

[Jay Skeets]

Yeah.

[Trey Kirby]

Which is what you want from the guys who are in year two. They were dominating out there. 26 for Trey Johnson, a bunch of tough shots. Will Riley had 18, basically took over late to win the game for the Wizards. So a great night for Washington.

[Jay Skeets]

Yeah. You want. If you're the Washington Wizards or you're a fan of the wizards, you want DebonSA, Trey Johnson, will Riley to play, you know, two more games and look like they belong and look especially in the guys who are playing in their second year. And then you shut it down early. You give other guys opportunity. You don't risk injury and all that. And that's probably where they're headed here. And that always happens at summer league, especially guys second, third year guys, you're like, okay, you are much, much better. That makes sense, right? So good when they get it done in the end, I want to ask you guys, other players to watch here in summer league either went at it last night and played or you're looking forward to. For the rest of summer league. You can get a start at.

We got a good matchup in Kings vs Clippers last night. Darius Acuff vs Keaton Wagler. And Acuff completely outplayed Wagler in this one. 19 points on a whopping 6 of 20 field goal attempts for Darius Acuff also added 7 assists. He looked like he knows how to play instantly, and it looked like a learning experience for Keaton Wagler, who went for seven points on just one of seven field goals and. And one assist. To me, he was really struggling to get any separation. He's not a super athlete. He is a field player. He's not even a guy that has like crazy handles or an amazing amount of skill, but he's a right play machine and that can look bad. I think sometimes in summer league where it's like, okay, I can't get open. Fine, I'll just go over. I'll go somewhere else. That's probably the right play, but it's not exciting to watch at all. Or like, okay, a double team's coming at me, I'll pass it. And everybody else is playing offense. That means you did nothing on the possession even. It's the right thing to do. So he's going to have a big. I think he's going to have a big growing pains kind of season this, this year. He was an unheralded recruit, came out of nowhere to be a top five pick. And like I said, profile wise, he doesn't necessarily look like a dominant type out there. He's going to have to figure out how his feel and the way he plays the game translates to the NBA. Whereas a guy like Acuff just goes out and he's like, I'm quick. There's not guys out here that can really guard me. He didn't shoot well, but he got 20 shots up. That's impressive to get up that many field goal attempts compared to seven her Wagler.

[Tas Melas]

I'll say. The Sixers have a guy who's ready to play in lebaron Filon. That guy handles shoots and talks trash at summer league. So he is ready to shoot, he's ready to pass. It's an interesting dynamic there with Edgam and Maxi and now Jaylen Brown. For this guy who can come off the bench and handle and and be an offense for a lot of it, he can literally. He can score and pass and do everything out there. So I liked watching him just as a first game again, talking trash. That was fun.

[Jay Skeets]

He has that ball on a string. His handle is very, very tight. 18.7 assists in the Sixers victory. He started on fire too. I think he had 11 very early and he was hitting a bunch of threes. Cooled off, finished 4:10 from distance, but yeah, it looked like they have a player. Could be one of these guys that looks like a steal at least very early here from the draft. What, he slipped to 22. Is that where he went?

[Tas Melas]

It was low. I don't know.

He's a funny double zero guy though. Maybe it's the summer league jerseys. The double zero looks weird to me.

So I think hit's gonna be his first organized game in five months. They, they've had good matchups. Him, Boozer and Wilson going back to North Carolina and Duke. So that'd be a good one that I'm excited for a couple other guys. Another great game for Yaxel Lindenborg. I mean, just fills up the box score. He's older so he should be good out there. But 21 points, 10 boards, six assists in 28 minutes. He's. He scored the final nine points for the Warriors. He looks immediately like a rotation guy in the NBA especially. Why wouldn't this guy be able to play on the warriors as currently constructed? So.

Yeah, exactly. And he looks it. He's got a complete game. Yeah, very good. And then my only other name to. I mean there's tons of names to watch, but Lakers guard Cameron Carr looked really good in the California Classic. Like this other sort of minor summer league showcase. Lot of athleticism, good shooting. You know, he was a first round pick, so we'll see how it translates here in Vegas. Any other names?

Merez Johnson probably outplayed Lendaborg last night. 27, 8, 33 and 2 blocks for Morez Johnson. He just looks like he's going to be an elite garbage man going forward. Knows how to play and knows what his role is going to be for a Mavs team that will ultimately be built around Cooper Flag and what he brings to the team. And if you can fill around that, be a defensive player, finish inside. You could stick on the Mavericks for a long time, I think. And task you had to be happy. Kobe Buffkin 30 points on 8 of 16 shooting.

Yeah, but he does not have a guaranteed deal. They've got 14 guaranteed deals plus a two way player. So he's available. He splashed two, four or four point opportunities the first quarter. I mean, that guy can score. He had 21 in the first half, 30 overall. He can score. Somebody's got to pick this guy up. I don't know who it's going to be. I doubt it's going to be the Pelicans, but see him go against Johan Baron J on the other side. He tried to dunk on Baron J, which was awesome. Baron J blocked him. Baron J is going to play. I could definitely be swayed watching one summer league game for sure, as I was last year in his first summer league game as a kid when he was 18, he had six blocks right off the bat. But this year, now that they've traded Nas Reed away for the Minnesota Timber Bowls, this guy's going to play. Simple as that. He's 19, but I think he is far better at making decisions on defense. He's better at just knowing where he's going to be. So it's about the defensive end and he looks better. He's going to play. We know that. Another guy who's playing backup center, call Mary Boyles. I know he's going into second year and he, you know, did incredibly well in that playoff run for the Toronto Raptors. But they're trying to make him more of a player. They're putting a lot on his shoulders to not only be a backup center but to be a ball handler. As our man Michael Grange reported. That's what he's doing out there, to be a pick and a roll ball handler as a backup center. And he's going to jump. They've, they've already said you're jumping from 22 minutes per game last year to 30 this year. And I could. I buy that because they need a backup center. He is that guy and he'll finish games. And I made that joke a couple of weeks ago that maybe that Orlando Robinson, that old guy could be useful. He, he's just way too slow as we saw in that game with DebonSA destroying him, just going by him. So they don't need a third string point guard. They've. Or center, I should say. They've got Colin Murray, Boyles. We'll see him. I want, I don't. I want to watch him as a, as a guy who's developed a little bit.

We also learned that the NBA told Jazz guard Keonte George that he will not be able to coach during any of these summer league games. According to the Deseret News, George is not the first active NBA player who has wanted to join the coaching ranks like, voluntary rule, but the league wanted to keep the rules consistent across the board, so they. They shot this down. From what I could tell, the league office did tell the Jazz five or six days ago that he could join them as a coach for like, one game. And then they reviewed the situation and, you know, I guess relied on precedent, and they're like, no, you can't. To which a lot of people are like, what the hell? Come on. We had Richard Jefferson as a NBA official in a summer league game once. Keonte George can't be over there calling up a player, too. But any thoughts on this?

Yeah, I mean, I guess the league is going back on their word a lot right now.

But he should have been a point guard out there with Darren Peterson because they didn't have a point guard. That looked pretty stupid. Yeah, this whole thing is weird.

get into the big news from yesterday. The Clippers Raptors trade centered around Kawhi Leonard will not be completed until the NBA investigation into whether the Clippers circumvented the salary cap is completed. Bunch of statements were released from both sides. The Raptor said in their statement Thursday that though they are eager to add Kawhi to their roster, they will, quote, wait until the league's investigation is complete before finalizing the deal. Where do you want to start with this? There sort of is oddly a lot to unpack with this. Where does your mind go instantly?

[Tas Melas]

Why is this announcement happening nine days after the trade happened? It's either because the NBA's thinking, okay, we'll say this right here, right now, and it just shows we are trying to investigate the Clippers. Do you see? We're trying something here? Although I think it would just result in them not doing a thing. It's either that or it took them this long to figure it out because they're just doing the investigation now. And maybe the punch and maybe the punishment is actually going to be something, but I definitely lean to the former. And they're just saying something, just to say something. But I don't know why it's nine days later. I mean, to go from Adam Silver a month ago saying, oh, we're almost at the end of this investigation, and seemingly it's going to end up happening at the beginning of June to this now after nine days. It doesn't make sense. I think it's just the NBA just deciding, oh, we'll put out this memo just to kind of show that we're doing some sort of investigation as to if the Clippers did anything at all.

Which is weird. I know. It's weird. The whole thing is weird.

Absolutely weird. Downright embarrassing for Silver in the league that it's even gotten to this point. Of course, this is, what, 10, 11 months now? I mean, after Pablo broke the news,

it's officially the second season that we're talking about.

[Jay Skeets]

Yes. Yeah. So depending on the outcome of the league's investigation, if this is a real thing at all, Kawhi's contract could potentially be voided or altered in some way. So had the Raptors finalized the acquisition of Kawhi before the situation was settled, they would have been taking on the risk of losing him, like again, suspensions, whatever. So the league was basically saying to the Raptors here yesterday, hey, before you sign, did you read the fine print on all this? Because it's a bit of a buyer's beware here. We have decided now, the reporting says, and I believe this, when they were talking about this trade back in late June, I assume they went to the league office prior to agreeing in principle to the trade, like, hey, are we cool to do this? Like, you know, I know this investigation is going on, but if us, the Raptors want to trade for Kauai and they were like, yeah. And then they've switched it up here at the last second, it sounds like. And so the Raptors, I think wisely are saying, okay, well, we can't sign on the dotted line. If you're saying suddenly we in taking on Kawhi, if he is to be suspended, then. Then we're getting screwed again. Sure, right.

But. But according to some reporting, Michael Granger's reporting, if that contract is voided, then the trade is entirely canceled. They get Ingram, Dick and the picks back and Kawhi Lender is a free agent, so they technically could sign him.

[Jay Skeets]

Well, so that's interesting because you could say when they were telling the Raptors, again, like, if you do this, you take on responsibility for whatever. The investigation falls on Kawhi.

[Tas Melas]

That's that. I read that and I say, why can't the Clippers assume every single negative penalization? Why not? I mean, the four things that the Clip or the Raptors could get hit with now it's a $7.5 million fine, the forfeiture of draft picks, suspension of team personnel and potentially voiding a player contract. Those are the things that are in the CBA if you circumvent the salary cap.

[Jay Skeets]

So yeah, but I interpret that as like, why can't a lot of those would be still. Well, I think they would be. I think they would be dinged responsible for a lot of those things. You said, possibly the fine draft picks, all that. But if Kawhi is on the Toronto Raptors, if this is an official trade and the investigation shows, oh, Kawhi and his representatives were also played a huge part in this. Uncle Dennis, you shady man, we're suspending you 50 games, whatever it is. Well, then of course that hurts the Toronto Raptors. I'm not saying it's right. That's why they're not agreeing to it. That's how I look at it.

That's what Michael Grange said. He said this is Basically, worst case scenario, we can't have this go through and then have Kawhi get suspended.

[Jay Skeets]

Yeah.

If you want to punish Kawhi Leonard, make him play 82 games.

Yeah, that's true.

So what changed, though? Because all the reporting literally does say the NBA inform informed the Raptors before they agreed to the trade that the investigation could cause issues with any deal involving Leonard. That's been in three different places. Wind Hoarder reported it, Michael Grange reported it, and the Athletic has reported it. They're all saying the Raptors knew going in and then the trade call actually happens and they're like, wait a second, we don't want them to be suspended. So I don't know. That's just very strange to me. Why didn't they. Why the why what the Raptors were told prior to the trade is different than when they actually got on the trade call. I guess it is a little similar. Remember at the trade deadline, there were question marks about can Terry Rozier's deal be put into a trade by the Heat? And the league was like, we can't tell you until you try and do it.

[Jay Skeets]

Yeah.

[Trey Kirby]

So maybe that's what it is. There's like, we can give you some advice, but until you make that final trade call, we won't tell you the actual story.

[Jay Skeets]

And the Heat got screwed and the Heat got screwed.

[Trey Kirby]

And so, yeah, I mean, this. I'm with you. I think this is super embarrassing for the league to still be talking about the Kawhi Leonard scandal a year later. It better be done by next week. There's a board of governors meeting next week and it needs to be finished by then.

According to Grange, he said, yeah, it could be resolved by the board of governors meeting there in Las Vegas. They'll decide.

Now the Clippers don't need to be penalized for anything or whatever. They will sitting around that table because it feels like it's just. To me, they're just putting out something to say something because how could they have not know? How could they not know what the lake. What are the Clippers are going to get hit with here? How could they not know? They've been investigating for 10 months.

While Adam, what's going to change here?

Yeah. The fascinating part though to me now becomes, and you've said before, and I do agree with you, ultimately like, you don't think Kawhi is ultimately going to get punished?

I don't think so. But.

But this, this hold up and the Raptors saying, okay, we're not going to agree to the trade because you're saying we would take on the risk makes me wonder, like, suddenly, is there more information that we don't know yet, know in the public that maybe he will. Yeah, that maybe it's a possibility.

And maybe they found that out over the last nine days when they decided to actually discuss it with the company. What's the name of the company that's actually doing the investigation?

And he said, he said, quote, the inquiry was far along, but now you just realize something. A month after that, well, what changed? Yeah, exactly.

A trade involving the main piece here. So it does complicate things, which is what we said and everybody said when that trade news broke, like, we were pumped, Kawhi's coming back to Toronto. But it was like, hold on, what's going on here? He is still. I mean, him, the, the team, they're under investigation, are they not? It's not settled.

[Tas Melas]

So, yeah, maybe they, as Trey said, it's just a deadline and they started to figure things out. Hmm. You know, in, in collaboration with what Uncle Dennis did to both the Raptors and the Lakers, asking for both ownership and, and in. What's ownership in different companies. Right. In the, in the, the sponsorships.

I mean, he's asking for things he's not legally allowed to ask to. Yeah.

If I remember Pablo, they said investigation.

I think the Raptor said no. And then they told the league, like, he's asking for things he's not legally allowed to be asking for.

Right.

That's, that's, you know, obviously what Pablo's reporting shows, too, and others.

So. Yeah, absolutely.

Yeah. Zilla wrote in his newsletter today, quote, the Clippers, I mean, a possibility here, the Clippers will no longer bear the penalty of losing Kawhi for a period of time if that's where the verdict comes down. That is pretty insane. That goes to what you were saying, TK like the season is over where Kawhi was a Clipper. So if he is suspended again, 20, 30, 40, 50, like if it happens. And it's probably still a long shot because I think you'd have the union getting involved and all that. But that's crazy that the Raptors would be the team getting penalized from the Kawhi side of things. Now, could that influence Silver's decision on other penalties directly hitting the Clippers? Maybe like, you know, the loss of draft picks and cap related things and stuff.

[Tas Melas]

This is so fun. This is so fun to talk about the gossip because it could just be Kawhi Leonard's contract being voided and not necessarily suspended.

And then he's a free agent and then the Toronto Raptors literally could sign him, you know, to the veteran minimum. Highly unlikely. It's highly unlikely. But you just slide them a little

But this holds up other business maneuvers for both teams and you know, sorry Clippers, but I'm really focused on the Raptors here. Like obviously Brandon Ingram and Grady Dick are also in limbo now here and potential other moves and stuff like that. With a trade of this magnitude just like on pause, like it. Like this has to be decided next week at this board of governor meeting.

That's what makes me think it's just them trying to put a little bit of a light on the NBA, trying to indicate we did something here. I mean, it's kind of another spotlight and it's late in the season or

Otherwise it would just be something that happens in August or whatever, whenever it's going to happen. This is actually like something. There's no explanation for why it's taken so long.

Windhorse said on the podcast today that it feels like the league is getting their ducks in a Row. Because they're going up against Steve Ballmer, the richest owner in the league, one of the richest people on earth.

That guy's going to have all of the resources to fight whatever comes back the Clippers way. So they have to nail it. Like the only thing that would be worse than the way they've handled it is if they announce what happened in the investigation and the Clippers like countersue and then win that like, oh, you blew it. NBA after wasting a year. So they have to nail it the very first time. And it could work out for the Raptors. Like it wouldn't be surprising if both teams, in both of their statements, they both say they want the trade to go through.

The Raptors are like, we're eager to get Kawhi Leonard. We expect a swift revolution resolution. It should be done soon. We still want Kawhi. Maybe they just have to tinker with the draft compensation going back to the Clippers and then it ends up the Raptors get Kawhi. They're still going to have to pay him whatever his extension is, but they get him for less first round picks. That'd be great for the Raptors. Like wouldn't you do that? If even if they said Kawhi Leonard is going to be suspended 30 games next season but we're throwing in one less first round pick, would you do it?

According to Brian Windhorst, the Wizards promised Trey Young they would sign him to a near max contract after acquiring him at the trade deadline. But they needed or wanted him to sit out games to secure the top pick. Trae Young ended up playing five games for Washington, all of them losses, by the way, after he made his way to Washington. So, you know, this made some news yesterday. Up or down TK on the Wizards promising Trey Young a max contract in exchange for sitting out the rest of last year.

That you're okay. That you're okay with this. And down. You'd be like, this is pretty shady.

Okay, then I think it's shady. Okay, shady. We hear a lot about these wink wink deals. When a trade is made, it feels like the extension is already lined up. That's normal stuff we saw with the Brandon Ingram. We've seen it with Pascal Siakam. It happens all the time. I couldn't totally tell if Wind Horse was reporting or speculating. I feel like it was a little bit of both. But this is a little different when you're literally like, yeah, sit out, because we're protecting our draft pick here. It felt like everybody knew that. But having the promise of getting $200 million at the end is pretty kind of weird. It just was a little weird. Ski to me.

Yeah. But he also, in his. Whether it was quoting what the wizard said. Brian Woolenhorse never used the word max. Not even close. He didn't use that word max. He did say, we will give you an extension. That's what he implied, that the wizard said, we will give you an extension.

Trey already knew he was going to get paid quote from Wind Horse Pace. Yeah.

That could mean 100 million over three years. I mean, that's. I saw this aggregate, the misquote. I'm down on that Reddit user Shea fan club who put this up. And so when we actually heard about the Trey Young trade, we said, how many games is he going to play? I think the over under Skeets you threw out, there was 24 games.

I took. Yeah. You know, I was naive for sure. I thought Trey was going to try and prove that he was worth somewhere close to the max, because I don't think he should have gotten anywhere close to the max. He got the max, which is a crazy amount of money. So down in. In a lot of whole different ways. This is. This is. This is weird. He just said, we're going to take. They just said, we're going to take care of you and pay you. I thought at that time, because he was traded for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert and that's it. No draft picks, that he wouldn't get anywhere close to four years over 200 mil, 212 million.

7.5% trade kicker, too. I mean, it's a massive gamble, obviously, on the health of Trey Young and

that contract and the length. Yeah, the length of it for sure.

But, yeah. Do I believe this happened? 100%. Yeah. Like we're going to make this deal. And hey, by the way, Trey, I know you're a little banged up as it is. You don't need to play a lot here. You don't, because we'd like to get the number one pick. That'd be great to get DeBonsa beside you and everything else. So you take it easy. We're going to pay you. Yeah, maybe they didn't get into the actual specifics, but this is what happened here. That's what they did. He got paid a lot more than we thought for sure. And he only played five games. Now, the funny part is, again, he played in five games. They did not win these games. He was on limited minutes from what I remember, too. He was not playing 30, 35 minutes. He was playing like 20 minutes, like under, I think, in some of those games. So it's not like he played. And they're like, oh, crap, we're winning games with Trey Young out here. It wouldn't have mattered. Probably not really. Getting at.

This does feel like if they could prove it, the wizard should get a fine for this. Like, this. This feels like a $250,000 fine to me for all of the drama we went through last season and the changing of the lottery rules with regards to tanking for a team to literally be like, we'll give you $200 million if you don't play so we can get the number one draft pick. That's bad. That's worth a fine. I think we should launch a year long investigation.

I was thinking, imagine this. You know, Wind Horse said this last year during all the tanking talk, like, oh, boy, there would. This would. This would get a lot of headlines back then. I mean, hell, we had Giannis basically doing this where the Bucks were saying, now I know they're thinking of trading them, but they're like, don't come and play honest. And he's like, screw that. I want to play. I want the league to Investigate why I can't play, why my own team is saying that.

I don't really remember that now, but that was a thing, right?

It's a funny thing with Trey Young, because good player but playing could mean more losses.

And he had a bad record when he played with the Atlanta Hawks this year. Yeah, you're right. So that's the funny part. And it never. Garrett, you're never guaranteed to get the first pick, even if you lose no games. Yeah. And now were under a month away from when Anthony Davis could get an extension. It's August 6th, his extension possibility. And you can speculate and say, hey, they gave Trey this big contract because they want to give Anthony Davis a contract. And they said, okay, we give you a big contract. That will entice the Anthony Davis people that maybe you should sign here too, if that's the way they're going. This is such an odd team, right? With how old they're getting.

How old are you? Why do they have so much young talent?

They're on this two path.

Anyway, next one here. Jonathan Kaminga has emerged as the Lakers top target to put the finishing touches on the revamped roster. Mutual interest in getting a deal done, apparently. According to Brad Turner of the LA Times, the Lakers want to sign Kaminga to a two year, $20 million contract. Might have to be a sign and trade, though, with the Hawks. Are you up or down, TAs on the Lakers trying to acquire Jonathan Kaminga.

[Tas Melas]

I'm down. I think they need another type of player. They need some sort of perimeter defense and some size. And we don't know what Jonathan Kaminga's future is going to be here in the NBA. He played pretty well to end his season with the Atlanta Hawks, that's for sure. But if we're talking about the sign and trade, which is going to be for way more money than the Lakers can just give him under the cap because they don't have a lot of room at all, it would be for a lot more money. And you're really going to look at a team that can just outscore teams now, JJ Redick did an incredible job last year getting this team to play defense and buy in. But telling Jonathan come. According to the New York Post, the report was that he was told that he'd be a starting player. You're just, you're getting into risky ground. I think there's just better opportunities. Go, go try something cheaper like Matisse. Thible's available. Ochay Abaji's available. Just a different type of guy now with him. If you're talking about Kaminga along with Mamu and Grimes, you're small, you're not an incredible perimeter defensive team. I would say move on. Although you know potential with Kaminga. Of course. Every single time, that's the conversation, that's the word you throw out with Kaminga, but I think it's. It's risky, Trey.

The reporting says Kaminga wants to be a Laker. The Lakers want Kaminga. As I said, a source told the Post that the Hawks are willing to execute a sign and trade with the Lakers around the framework of Kaminga going to LA and the Hawks receiving Jared Vanderbilt and the Lakers 2032 first round pick swap, which I think is basically like the only draft capital. They would even have to dangle in a sign and trade with Atlanta. What are your thoughts, up or down?

[Trey Kirby]

I'm like sideways because I do think that the Lakers need a big wing and they need athleticism. Those are two things that certainly Kaminga brings for sure. But what they really need from that big wing is shooting and defense, which are not Kaminga's strong points. But you mentioned the other options like Thible and Agbaji are on my list, but so are Zaire Williams and Bruce Brown. Kaminga might be a better player than all four of those guys. He's certainly more talented than all four of those guys. I think the cost is kind of low. Like, the Lakers are in for a penny, so they should be in for a pound. They spent so much on Walker Kessler, on Austin Reeves, on signing all their guys, throwing in a 2032 swap. That's kind of nothing compared to what they've already done. So it's like, you know, playing poker. You're paying up for your flush draw through four cards. You gotta pay to see the fifth. So maybe they should do it. There's just not a perfect fit out there for the Lakers right now. Because surely if Kaminga makes his way there, JJ Redick will be like, he just needs to be our Sean Marion.

And guess what? Sean Marion is the perfect fit for this Lakers team. I'm talking prime Sean Marion. Yeah, sure, he guards up, he guards down, he rebounds, he runs the court, he makes threes. Would have been the perfect guy, but he played like 10 years ago.

I don't have it in the rundown here because it happened right before we got into the classic factory, but Jake Fisher, the people's insider from the Stein line, was talking about the Atlanta Hawks possibly be interested, being interested still in Peyton Watson in a sign and trade with Denver that they have their eyes maybe on him still, which I think would be a great addition to the Atlanta Hawks. And a player like that could really slot in nicely. I assume recess would be a guy going out and then draft capital, which, you know, they have some of the something to watch. I like that move. I. I tweeted. I think Tim Bontemp should advise, advise, advise on that. I, I like the concept. I don't think it'll happen, but apparently they're still in the running or still interested at the very least.

A new group is pursuing an NBA team in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Jacks, led by hall of Famer Jerry Colangelo and former NBA coach Vinny Del Negro. There's a name I hadn't seen in a while, Vinny Del Negro, maybe. So they claim 8 billion in total capital and promise to build the most impressive state of the art basketball arena in the world. And here for everybody on YouTube is sort of the logo or the look attached to this concept to the Las Vegas Jacks and this possibility of an NBA expansion. So up or down on the name and you know, the look obviously going with the playing card. Las Vegas Jacks. Trey.

With Jokic off the court last season and outscored. That means they're bad. But doesn't matter. With Jokic in. Jokic in previous seasons, they're getting destroyed. Tim Hardaway was improved.

I was like, national Treasure is so dumb. Like, the climax of the original National Treasure involves wearing Ben Franklin's 5D glasses. It was so dumb. I'm like, okay, I'll watch Book A Secret Secrets. Book of Secrets was pretty good.

But Wrath of Khan is so far beyond Star Trek the Motion Picture. Like, it's just a. Completely reinvents the whole thing. You know what I mean? So.

Well, in doing a little research, I did see Superman 2 was on some people's list.

Yeah, I know. I. I was a little shocked. I bring that up because coming next week, next Friday, we are going to be pitching our movie franchises for what we might do this summer as part of our film franchise rewatch and review. We've done Fast and Furious franchise. We've done Jurassic Park. We're doing a new one. We're each going to come to the table with a different franchise and pitch it to each other and to you, because you're going to be able to vote on it. So Superman is involved in Said podcast. JD's pitching that one. So they all got.

Yeah, they all got sequels. They got way too many seats.
