Brooke Devart
I just found out last week the Arizona schools start in the middle of July. I had a friend who had a son starting their first day of fourth grade last week.
Jay E. Skeets
Very strange. Thanks for joining us here on YouTube. Hit the like button. Subscribe podcast listeners. Five star ratings and reviews helps the boys out on today's show. We're Hit the beach. You're dressed accordingly.
Brooke Devart
You got a shirt that says Beach Club on.
Jay E. Skeets
Great point. We're hitting the beach to answer a few of your questions that you guys have emailed in or tweeted in or left in the YouTube comments. We also have a little rapid fire fun because we are calling this the Drop. So I'll ask the questions, I'll also answer along with you guys. But that's at the end. Also, before we get into it, I am told if we can deliver a classic today, Time magazine might consider adding us to the top 100 best podcasts of all time list. But we have to deliver a classic.
Brooke Devart
We have to do a classic today. All right.
Jay E. Skeets
I don't know who they'll bounce from the list to include us in the top 100, but.
Grainger
Cyril, get out of here.
Jay E. Skeets
Maybe.
Brooke Devart
Seems like everybody had problems with this list.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes, sir. I mean, you're gonna get yourself into a lot of trouble doing a list like, oh, totally, but, yeah, no, no Basketball Jones. No starters. No. No dunks.
Brooke Devart
Yeah, but, you know, I felt, I felt the blow lesson a little bit when I saw that, like, pardon my take didn't make it or Comedy Bang Bang.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, like some giant podcast just like.
Brooke Devart
Us, you know, influential beyond belief. They have humongous numbers, obviously. But I, I think if you're telling the story of podcasts, we're all three involved, so we're going to make our own list. The real hundred best podcasts, you know.
Jay E. Skeets
You would have to include on that one of the most, you know, instrumental, influential, I guess is the word I'm looking for. Podcast of all time. Ricky Gervais.
Grainger
Oh, yeah, right.
Jay E. Skeets
Think of that.
Grainger
Sorry, that wasn't on there. No, come on.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, come on. Anyway, let's deliver a classic and maybe still get in there.
Brooke Devart
We should get jerseys that say 101 on it, like Klay, Thompson Rock and the 76. I don't know where we're gonna wear them, but we should get them. We should definitely do it.
Jay E. Skeets
We gotta start branding ourselves as the 101st best podcast. Smart.
Brooke Devart
I like it.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, we some NBA news and notes, some minor deals over the last 24 hours or so. I'm going to chuck them all at you, tk, get you any of your thoughts on them. We got free agent forward Josh Okogie. He has signed a one year, $3.1 million deal with the Houston Rockets. So this move and all of these moves, they're not going to move the needle all that much. But he's a capable defensive wing. Lindy Waters III has agreed to a one year deal with the San Antonio Spurs. You know, this guy's like a bit of a three point shooter. You've seen him in okc, Golden State and then a cup of coffee with the Pistons. And then finally. The Suns have been busy. According to Shams, they claimed former Lakers guard Jordan Goodwin off free agency waivers and they signed Jared Butler to a one year deal. Jay Butler can't put that on the lower third. Kenya confuse everyone.
Brooke Devart
Right, Jimmy?
Jay E. Skeets
No to the Suns. No, no, still not happening.
Brooke Devart
Tried last year.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, exactly, exactly. It's Jared Butler. So, yeah. Do you have any thoughts on these sort of minor deals here for any of these three teams?
Brooke Devart
Not really, no. No. I mean we're talking about 12 men here for the most part. My main takeaway was a what you got? Who is the best player here? Okogi, Lindy Waters, Jordan Goodwin. Not Jimmy Butler. Jared Butler, I guess a Kogi, maybe. Jordan Goodwin would be my top.
Jay E. Skeets
I was leaning towards Goodwin. You're going. Yeah. Akogi's a little bit older. Akogi to me is funny with the Rockets because I feel like IME Udoka is like, yeah, that was me.
Brooke Devart
True, true.
Jay E. Skeets
They're pretty similar.
Brooke Devart
Very similar.
Jay E. Skeets
Like he's like a bit of a younger version of Udoka when he was having his best years with the Spurs. So he goes and gets him like a defensive minded wing I guess maybe Udoka was a better three point shooter. He didn't shoot a lot, but anyway, that's where Okogi really struggles shooting the three ball. I guess I'll go Goodwin to answer your questions.
Brooke Devart
Great, Great. Okay, so then let's put a bet down here. July 24, who plays the most minutes this season between these four guys? Because I'm like a Kogi. I'm with you. He might be the best, but there's a lot of guys ahead of him in the depth chart. I guess Goodwin has a path to playing just because there's not a lot of point guards in Phoenix. So maybe there, you know, the spurs are a young team, so Lindy Waters maybe gets a taste at some point. I guess Jared Butler would be last on my list for this just because of opportunity. But if I'm guessing a guy who plays the most minutes, I'll go with Lindy Waters. Well, yeah, I'll go with Linda.
Jay E. Skeets
I'll take Goodwin in this weird bet because like you said, there may be just more opportunity. And if we do believe he's the best of the bunch, that makes sense too. But yeah, I mean, look, any of these guys, they're like in case of emergency, right? Like injuries ahead of them that happen and they're going to get an opportunity. These are all like fine signings, like, obviously not breaking the bank on any of these guys. And there's a reason that they're 10th, 11th, 12th sort of guys on your roster. But, uh, let's hear from you. Get the poll going.
Brooke Devart
Oh, it's going, baby.
Jay E. Skeets
It's the ultimate sicko poll.
Brooke Devart
They would never do this on a podcast one through 100.
Jay E. Skeets
No way.
Brooke Devart
They would never do it.
Jay E. Skeets
No. And they wouldn't do it live either, I'll tell you that. We also had the Charlotte Hornets signing guard Antonio Reeves to a two way deal. I didn't include him on the lower third because it was a two way deal, but he's going to the Hornets. He last played for the Pelicans and he's, you know, again, he's getting maybe an opportunity there in Charlotte. Who are the best available unrestricted free agents left? Because I'm not talking about the restricted guys anymore. You know, the, the four guys in restricted free agency that we've talked time and time again about. Kaminga Giddy, Cam Thomas and Quentin Grime. Unrestricted? Who's left? I mean, we're still waiting on Al Horford. Yeah, right. You know, you can contribute to a winning team. Other bigs. Chris Boucher Trey Lyles, precious Achua, I guess, is still an unrestricted free agent. Thomas Bryant, is he still actually the.
Brooke Devart
Big baby, the new big baby? I guess so. Yeah, I guess he is.
Jay E. Skeets
Wings, you got Amir Coffey. Gary Payton, the second is a small guy, but he's almost like a wing. Sort of levels up. And then there's a ton of guards. There's Westbrook, Brogdon, Ben. Ben Simmons. Don't call me Simons, as I almost did. Campaign. Alec Burkes, Seth Curry, Delon Wright, Corey Joseph, Markel Fultz, Alfred Payton, Monte Morris. I've listed everyone, I think. I mean, I know there's a handful of other guys, but slim pickings is my point.
Brooke Devart
Yeah. Malik Beasley, still available. May not be eligible for the season. We shall see, I guess. Westbrook, I guess. Yeah, he had a good season for the Nuggets. Had a good first round playoff series, a bad second round. But he's the kind of guy that helps teams in the regular season and he always plays, so I assume he'll find a team eventually. Maybe he'll just go back to the Nuggets.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, and I do think Amir Coffey is an NBA player. I think he's proven that. I'm a little surprised he actually hasn't been picked up by a team here. But that's where we're at here in unrestricted free agency, at least. Moving on. Chris Paul will be wearing number three in his return to the Clippers. New teammate Bradley Beal has agreed to give CP3 the number that Beal has worn his entire career, too. This is according to Lawrence Frank, the president of basketball operations with the Clippers. He said, look, Beal, what a great teammate already.
Brooke Devart
This guy's so good.
Jay E. Skeets
This guy got there to lac before Chris Paul did. He could have taken that number three. Maybe did. But he is giving it up to Chris Paul, who I was sure is shocked to see Trey has worn number three his entire career. Yeah, and I guess I'd say I'm shocked because he played for a lot of teams at this point and always had that number. And a lot of times guys were giving it to him. Keldon Johnson was the last with San Antonio Spurs.
Brooke Devart
I wonder if we could put together a full starting lineup of players who let Chris Paul wear number three once he got traded. We got two already, so, you know.
Jay E. Skeets
Half the way there, we'd have to go back to his other spots there. So that to do the math on it.
Brooke Devart
But, you know, nice for Chris Paul and nice of the Clippers to have not given anybody else number three since then. I always think that's such a diss from an organization when one of the great players of all time for that team moves to a different franchise and then they give it to somebody else. Like Dylan Harper is going to be wearing Kawhi Leonard's number two this year. I'm sorry, but that's weird, right?
Jay E. Skeets
Right.
Brooke Devart
I hate seeing Kevin herder wear number 13 for the Chicago Bulls. Yeah, you shouldn't give these numbers to franchise legends. The Clippers haven't. Bradley Beal comes in, they're like, you know, we got something else working here. You think maybe you could switch to like 23? That's what we were in college. It's still available, assuming Kai Jones is not back on the LA Clippers. But I think this was good by LA to say, hey, Chris Paul's jersey is going to be retired someday, right, as a Clipper. So we're not giving it to anybody in the meantime. And guess what? He somehow found his way back there. He can dust it off and throw it on. Although I guess they have new jersey since he was playing there.
Jay E. Skeets
I do like, I like this thought experiment. Is it the franchise sort of putting that number on hold or is it the respect that a player like Chris Paul has with all the other players in the league? New guy comes to said team and they decide, you know, I love number three, let's say, or even I wear number three on previous spots, but I can't do that. Or is it both? Or it's just agreed upon.
Brooke Devart
For the Clippers, it's saving the jersey for Chris Paul. I think they knew once he was traded, he was one of the two cornerstones of the best teams we've ever had. Though they did go to the conference finals with Paul George. Like, it's weird to remember, but they did nonetheless. Chris Paul really helped turn the Clippers around. It was really Blake Griffin that put him on the map. But then they did the trade for Chris Paul. They were an awesome team, one of the best teams we saw. So I think they were saving it for him, knowing they're going to retire his jersey someday. Surely they didn't know he would come back at the end of his career. Nobody's expecting this guy to play another 10 seasons, basically after leaving LA is what it's turned out to be. On the other side, every other team, I think it's the respect for Chris Paul. They're like, this guy's been around forever. I guess it's quite possible that Bradley Beal Started wearing number three for Chris Paul. Like he came into the NBA seven years after Chris Paul did. So was Bradley Beal a Chris Paul fan growing up? Maybe. And if so, why wouldn't you give him his jersey when he comes to join your team?
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, this is going to be the 8th franchise Chris Paul is played for here. I mean he's playing.
Brooke Devart
You consider Chris Paul a journeyman. That's a lot of teams.
Jay E. Skeets
It's a ton of teams.
Brooke Devart
Third of the league almost.
Jay E. Skeets
I oddly don't though. But I guess it's because there was like it's near the end of his career part. But then he's going back to a team where he had his most, you know, real team success, I guess. Obviously had some good years with the Phoenix Suns going to the Finals and Rockets coming up. A little short because of injury, but. No, I guess I don't to answer your question though. But he is.
Brooke Devart
Yeah. He's never been anywhere more than six seasons.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Yeah.
Brooke Devart
What do you think of him as a Clipper? I do.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh yeah, Yeah. I guess I almost was going to say Hornets though too. Coming into the league as a rook and getting that, making them relevant between one of those two. Even though again he had a little bit more team success going further with the Suns as he got older. Who do you think you're good at this, Trey, Because I'm putting you on the spot. I know because I did a little work. Best NBA players to ever wear number three. Who comes to mind? Chris Paul. One of them.
Brooke Devart
Dwyane Wade, Allen Iverson.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, I'd say those are the top three.
Brooke Devart
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
And then you get into a second.
Brooke Devart
Tier all time greatest WNBA player wore number three. Candace Parker.
Jay E. Skeets
Good one.
Brooke Devart
Who else? Ben Wallace.
Jay E. Skeets
There you go. A rare big guy to wear number three.
Brooke Devart
Yeah. That's why we might have trouble putting together a five player team of Chris Paul jersey surrenderers because it's usually a guard that's wearing number three. Who else? Steven Jackson. Was he on number three?
Jay E. Skeets
I don't know why he may have. For me he might have been five.
Brooke Devart
Stack Jack five.
Jay E. Skeets
I think he was Dennis Johnson.
Brooke Devart
Okay.
Jay E. Skeets
Hall of Famer. Drazin Petrovich was three. Also a Hall of Famer. Obviously a short career, unfortunately. And then the only two other names. Tracy McGrady wore it for one year. You don't think of him as a number three.
Brooke Devart
He's a one.
Jay E. Skeets
He's a one. And Chauncey Billups wore number three for one year. Yeah. Weird. So you named it. You named the three that I was looking for CP3, Allen Iverson, Dwayne Wade. Those are the best three guys to wear number three in NBA history, I think. Unless I'm forgetting somebody. You tell us in the comments. Moving on. It took a little longer than expected, but the NBA announced the all summer league teams on Tuesday. Here they are. Here's the first team. Nick Clifford, Kyle Filipowski, David Jones, Garcia, who just signed a two way deal with the Spurs. Congrats to him. Jordan Miller and Terrence Shannon Jr. Those are your first team honors. Second team, well, it went to Ron Holland. The second, Isaac Jones, A.J. mitchell, and two Hornets, Con Knipple and K.J. simpson. I just love saying Con Knipple.
Brooke Devart
Totally.
Jay E. Skeets
What a name. Any thoughts on this? I know we sort of went over it. We predicted a lot of these guys. I think we named all the guys at least that made the first or second team.
Brooke Devart
We said David Jones Garcia.
Jay E. Skeets
I definitely showed him some love. All right. Because then I remember you. I had them maybe on my first team. And then you threw some love to Jordan Miller.
Brooke Devart
That's right.
Jay E. Skeets
So we did get a lot of them, I think.
Brooke Devart
Great. I mean, my takeaway is that these are all old guys. The youngest guy on the first team is Kyle Filipowski. He's going to be 22 in November, I believe. Nate Clifford, a rookie, he's already older than Kyle Filipowski. Terence Shannon Jr. And David Jones Garcia, I think are like 25 years old, so you should be dominating.
Jay E. Skeets
And they did. Yes. Good stuff. Yeah, I guess the only Knipple made the second team.
Brooke Devart
He's young and Clifford is a Rookie, but he's 23.
Jay E. Skeets
23.
Brooke Devart
You know, that's why they got drafted so late, but also why he's able to kind of jump in and start being good basketball wise. Favorite shape guy was Isaac Jones on the second team. That dude looks like a refrigerator with hair. It's just bored. Man gets paid all summer long. I like the look of him.
Jay E. Skeets
Filipowski was named Summer League MVP. He averaged a league leading 29.3 points per contest over three games. He added eight rebounds, two assists. But he shot really well. 56% from the field and 39% from deep. So it was no surprise that he got summer league MVP honors. A first for a Utah Jazz player.
Brooke Devart
Really?
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Wow.
Jay E. Skeets
Exactly. Exactly. All right, final piece of news here. Bucs superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo intends to play for Greece at this year's Euro basket after being officially named to the national team's 19. Man Preliminary roster on Tuesday. The Greek freak represented Greece in numerous international competitions, most recently 2024 Summer Olympics. And he played in the last Euro basket as well a couple years ago. But, yeah, he's going to give it a go. It sounds like Luka Doncic is going to play for Slovenia. Jokic is probably going to play for Serbia. I think Sengun is going to play for Turkey. Some of the big German guys. I know Franz Wagner is going to play for Germany. So there's going to be some good NBA talent in this. And we always like these international competitions, and it gets started in late August and then through the first couple weeks of September.
Brooke Devart
Excellent female basketball. Super fun to watch. Yeah. Not sure what the time difference is, but I think favorable for us here in the United States. Won't these games be on it, like, early afternoon? Yeah, you're probably guessing.
Jay E. Skeets
I mean, like, they play in, like, this one. They play, like, in four different countries, right? Yeah, but, you know, all sort of in the same region, I think. J.D. you have the actual breakdown of the groups, and it does show where they play. I know they play in Poland. Yeah, they're, you know, at the bottom there. Latvia and stuff like that. So. Yeah, I think you're right.
Brooke Devart
Okay, so it's like 5:30pm in Latvia right now.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Brooke Devart
So if they start the game at seven, that'll be perfect afternoon times for us.
Jay E. Skeets
That's great. Very cool. And you see Greece there is in Group C alongside Spain and Italy and Georgia and Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegov Herzegovina. I believe I'm saying that. Right. So that's a tough group. But see if Giannis can help them medal in Eurobasket. They got a bronze back in 2009. They got that gold in 2005 in Eurobasket. Otherwise, you know, a few medals here and there, but you're going to help your chances.
Brooke Devart
I assume they're the favorite in that group.
Jay E. Skeets
I would.
Brooke Devart
They've got the best guy.
Jay E. Skeets
I would think so. I would think so. You know, obviously Spain has sort of taken a little bit of a step back, but we are not international experts. I will say, though, you know, like, I went through some of the NBA guys playing and this whole thing. He's more of like, an international hoops journalist. He does great work for Team Canada or in Weisfeld. He retweeted me yesterday, sort of sharing this news, and he said, quote, amazing turnout considering there is almost zero at stake here. Beside pride, all 24 of these teams will still go through to the 2027 World Cup. Qualification. So this would be like if Shea Gilders Alexander competed for Canada at the Americup. When we talk about European teams having more chemistry and continuity, this is why. Thought it was a great point. And it sort of blew my mind because I'm, you know, this is. This is really for nothing except pride and trying to get a EuroBasket medal. This is no. Sort of like, win this, finish top in your group, you get on to the next step of World cup play or sort of Olympic play. They just want to. Just want to hoop with their guys. It's pretty amazing.
Brooke Devart
That is really cool. Yeah, very cool. If you're a fan of any of these countries, Poland for any of them. But if you are in the Bucks front office, are you super excited that Giannis is playing in this tournament when he does even more for Greece than he does for Milwaukee? And you need even more from him this season with no Dame Lillard, no guards, really questionable, I would say, but are they going to say no, you can't play in Euro basket? Yeah, right.
Jay E. Skeets
Good luck.
Brooke Devart
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
So you can understand the concern from NBA teams for sure. I'm also curious to see, like you're saying, this is a minor tournament. The United States, these kind of tournaments, they don't send their best guys. So I'm kind of interested to see who's actually going to be playing for France because obviously they are going to be a huge threat to the United States, to Canada for a medal at the next Olympics. That's still a ways away. They've got a lot of young guys who are coming to the NBA, so personally, I would like to see Wemby play in your basket. That's a bummer.
Jay E. Skeets
There's no Wemby, no Gobert.
Brooke Devart
He's coming back from his blood clot, so understandable. But that does mean a lot of their young guys should get an opportunity. Alex Sar Koulibaly played in the last Olympics, but he should be back. But then guys like Risa Shaf here for the Hawks, I hope he gets the play. Noah Esenge, drafted by the Bulls, Berenger for the Timberwolves and Traore for. He's a Brooklyn net. There's a lot of young talent for France that's going to need to start getting some reps on an actual national stage if they want to take on the biggest teams in the world come 2028. So it'll be cool to see who actually is rolling out there for the France.
Jay E. Skeets
Absolutely. And again, we do love. We love following know not being experts and following it all year round. But like when it kicks off, these are great games. It's like they're fast, obviously the 40 minute game. I love the production sort of value. It's sort of no nonsense when it comes to international hoops. So again, late September, sorry, late August. Yes. Yeah. Going a better.
Brooke Devart
A better signal.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes. A better signal than this. Yeah. You like the harder to do so.
Brooke Devart
I feel like it's abused less often.
Jay E. Skeets
Than twirling a finger. Going for review but late August, early September and we'll probably do some shows around EuroBasket, especially if the time difference works out like that. Could be great.

Brooke Devart
Sup?
Jay E. Skeets
Sup? Sup? Earlier this week, ESPN dropped an article highlighting worst decision every NBA team has made thus far in the 2000 and 20s, ranking them from least to most damaging. The biggest mistakes range from the Cavaliers declining, declining Isaiah Hartenstein's qualifying offer back in 2021 to the Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers this year. What's your favorite disaster deal over the last few seasons? Keep the classics coming. That's from Sunny Are Fun article. Oh yeah, highly recommend you check it out. Zach Cram did a great job. He did organize the disaster moves into sort of like five tiers, small scale problems, draft disasters, mid tier mistakes, high cost, low reward, and then franchise altering trades. But did you have a favorite from Zach's list? Or maybe one he even forgot?
Brooke Devart
I loved reading this. A lot of ooh, a lot of stink. It was good to watch. But man, Cavs must be doing well if their first move of the past five years is declining a qualifying option for a guy who would be a backup big on their team. So they're doing well. But man, this is a. It's great. I wrote down several things that caught my eye that I thought were funny. First one was number seven and number six, the Hawks and the Pelicans both trading for Dejounte Murray as their worst move. I thought that was awesome and I think Zach actually ranked the Pelicans trade as worse than the Hawks trade because the Hawks were able to kind of get stuff back a little bit by trading away Dejounte Murray. So that was a funny one to me. The other one that I laughed a lot at was number 13, the Pistons hiring Monte Williams. There's not a lot of coaching things on here. I think it was the Pacers had Nate Bjorkren, like he was a bottom 20 kind of guy, but that didn't have a huge effect on the team long term. Whereas the Pistons, Monty Williams got fired. He said, I don't want to work for this team, the Pistons. I want to stay on the beach. They said, what if we pay you the most money an NBA coach has ever been paid? He said, okay, you're going to do. I can come off the beach. Yeah, I'm going to coach the team like I'm still on the beach. Played Killian Hayes. He's out of the NBA worst losing streak in NBA history. 14 wins on the season, worst team and then they fire him. Hire JB Bickerstaff and they're good again. That easy. That was a hilarious one to me. Monte Williams making the list and making the list pretty high.
Jay E. Skeets
Pretty high, yeah.
Brooke Devart
13. He's in the top half of the mistakes for one year of poor coaching.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, that is pretty. Put it into context like that. A couple of my favorites. The Hornets signing Gordon Hayward for four years and 120 million in 2020. So right at the start of this list, Cram wrote, in six off seasons this decade, only two free agents have signed for more money while changing teams than Gordon Hayward. That blew my mind. Paul George to Philadelphia, Fred Van Vliet to Houston, and then good gourd himself going to the Hornets. And he only played in like 60% of their games while he was on the roster. His production got worse and worse every single year. They never made the playoffs with good gourd. The play in games that they did sniff he wasn't available to play it like it was really bad. They eventually traded Hayward in the final year of his contract and they got a package headlined by Trey, Manny and second round picks. So yeah, good Gore did not work out for the Hornets.
Brooke Devart
I would say the most memorable thing for me from Gordon Hayward's tenure for the Charlotte Hornets was when he did that press conference and he had like a haircut where he looked like Beavis. No sideburns at all. It's like maybe the worst haircut you've ever seen at an NBA press conference. And it was for the Hornets. I don't know if it was like his introductory press conference or whatever it was, but he came up looking like a Mike Judge character and I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Which tells you a lot about his on court production.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, yeah. I also loved Zach. Including the Wizards drafting Johnny Davis.
Brooke Devart
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
2022, he wrote, among lottery picks from 2020 through 2023, the worst career box plus minus belongs to Johnny Davis. He was a number 10 pick. Like this wasn't a late first round, second round by any means. This was a top 10 guy that even at the time, I remember people going, what are they doing? Johnny Davis at 10, 3.5 points per game, 0.6 assists in 11.4 minutes per game with 40, 27 and 56 shooting splits 56% at the line for six of a lot. I know, man, it's Johnny. And then to make matters worse, the next guard, you know, his sort of build taken in the 22 draft. Two spots later, Jalen Williams, all NBA, all defensive NBA champion. Jalen. Yeah. Yeah, that's. That's a tough one for Wizards fans.
Brooke Devart
Yeah. Johnny Davis, especially, like, you're not playing, you're not good, and the team sucks. They've been one of the worst teams.
Jay E. Skeets
The most shocking thing to me was the 11.4 minutes per game.
Brooke Devart
That's crazy.
Jay E. Skeets
It's one thing to be bad and crappy numbers and shooting split. It's like you're on the Wizards. You're right. You're not winning anything.
Brooke Devart
No.
Jay E. Skeets
And you can't even play 12 minutes a game. That's mind boggling. That tells you how bad you are.
Brooke Devart
Yeah, that's exactly right. Most draft busts these days are, like, wrong situation or injury early in the career. Not often is it just this guy can't play and can't get on the court. And that's what it's been for Johnny Davis.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. The top three on Zach's list. I don't mean to spoil it, but you should go check it out anyway because it's great. Little breakdowns on each one. Top three was the Bucks trading for Dane, the Suns trading for KD and Beal, and then the Mavs trading away Luka. That was number one on the list. But one in the top five, I believe it was the Kings. Having Tyrese Halliburton and Dear and Fox and then losing both of them within three years of each other in 22 and then 25. That's tough, too. And now they're like, you know, desperately looking for a point guard.
Brooke Devart
Schroeder. They got Schroeder.
Jay E. Skeets
And they went and got Schroeder.
Brooke Devart
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
That earned the top five. I thought that was maybe the saddest one.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
I think of the top five because the other ones, like, look, trading Luka Doncic is just plain stupid. But you can understand why the Bucks would trade for Dame Lillard.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Yeah.
Brooke Devart
The Suns thought they were going to be a title contender when they traded for Kevin Durant. I actually think the Durant trade is worse than the Beal trade. But the Beal trade was like doubling down on a bad trade, so you can understand why it's there. But the Kings were like a young team with two talented point guards, both of which, it seemed like, wanted to be in Sacramento, and somehow, three seasons later, neither of them are there with nothing to show for it. So, yeah, that to me was just like, ugh, that's the most depressing entry, I thought.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. And I mean, look, the Halliburton, Sabonis swap. It did. It did work. I say work because when you like, look at the Kings, obviously franchise not making the playoffs forever, you know, Sabonis and Fox did get that team into the playoffs.
Brooke Devart
Seven games.
Jay E. Skeets
They had a little success. Yeah, exactly. Nearly one a first round series. But then it quickly derailed and Halliburton has turned into, you know, obviously one of the best point guards in the league. He's. I think, I think it was the, you know, ball podcast. They were doing like worse trades of the past decade. Great podcast as well. And trill brought up like, the idea of Sabonis is like, he's a. He's a floor raiser, but he's a ceiling squasher, I guess. You know what I mean? Like, can you, can you really win with Demontis? Sabonis, he's like a basement. He's like a basement. Yeah, solid floor.
Brooke Devart
Ceiling might be low though.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Like for you. You can go downstairs. I'm gonna pray the laundry's not in the basement.
Brooke Devart
My laundry's in my basement.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, damn. Sucks.
Brooke Devart
Get down on my knees to fit my clothes.
Jay E. Skeets
But man, poor Kings fans.
Brooke Devart
Exactly. The Kings. The. The Beam Team was also one of the most fun teams to watch of the past five seasons. Like we talked about on the show during this past year, like teams that weren't actually champion, teams that are still memorable. The Beam Team will go down as that. Similar to the Lob City clippers or the 7 seconds or less Suns teams that left a mark, I think. But that was literally one year and it's already over. And now it seems like they are the most depressing franchise going right now.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes. And according to Zach Lowe, when he was in summer league, at every dinner, Vivek Ranadive's name, I heard that. That made me laugh.
Brooke Devart
One name kept coming up. Vivek.
Jay E. Skeets
At every din. Somebody just keeps saying that. You're like, he passed me the potatoes. And somebody just says, vivek. And you're like, what happened there?
Brooke Devart
Things that I thought were too low on the list. We could just hit them quickly. Number 27, Jeremy Grant signing a contract with the Portland Trailblazers the day before Damian Lillard was traded. And we haven't heard a single thing from Jeremy Grant since he signed the contract. He's basically been using it to buy cool clothes.
Jay E. Skeets
I was going to say he only comes up to me in. In like an Instagram slide, you know, show where it shows, like cool dressed guys, league fits.
Brooke Devart
First teamer for sure.
Jay E. Skeets
Like looks awesome in every photo I see of them.
Brooke Devart
So the raise has been beneficial in that point. Number 26, the jazz not trading Lowry Markkanen. I think this is an interesting1. Like 28 years old jazz are going nowhere. They don't really have a franchise guy right now. Maybe Ace Bailey turns into that. But they did the deal last year. His extension, he signed it a day after the deadline for being able to be traded. So they couldn't. But I should have traded him right after he won ip. Basically. That was kind of like a fool's gold season for the Utah Jazz. They threw everything into having an All Star because they were hosting the All Star game. And then as soon as they found out that marking him was going to be an All Star, they traded all the veterans and the team has stunk ever since.
Jay E. Skeets
True.
Brooke Devart
He also didn't play very well last year, so I think that could be a long term mistake. And then number 17 should have been way higher. The warriors drafting James Wiseman. Yeah, that's another bust of a guy who can't play. And they had a chance to. To extend their run if they draft Lamelo Halliburton. Like there are names out there that would have really helped the warriors going forward. And instead they drafted James Wiseman.
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
And then we get on to the whole two timelines. The two timelines that sort of blew up in their face or didn't go that well. No, you know, they did win a championship. I mean, what, what year was Wiseman drafted? 21.
Brooke Devart
He's got a ring. Yeah. Yeah, he does have a ring. He was out at that point.
Jay E. Skeets
In my face. Good stuff. Highly recommend you go check out that article. Great stuff from Zach Cram, one of my favorite writers right now. Alright, next one here on the beach. A recent discussion with friends about whether LeBron is still a top 10 player in the league today got me thinking. Who is the best superstar or upcoming superstar that you do not have confidence in to lead a franchise to a championship, take out the team around them and the flaws of their franchise? What player just isn't good enough to be more than a number two despite their star status or potential? That's from Tim, all the way from Scotland.
Brooke Devart
Nice.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, thanks, Tim. Good question. Yeah, have at it. Superstar. Upcoming superstar that you just do not believe could ever be like a franchise leading guy.
Brooke Devart
This is kind of like a. Who's the new Paul George? Yeah, who's a guy who is the number one right now, perhaps better suited as a number two? Honestly, Donovan Mitchell to Me is a guy that I'm looking at a little sideways right now. Eight seasons in the NBA, he's been the number one seed in the Western Conference with the Jazz. Number one seed this past year with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference. Zero Conference finals appearances. And he doesn't take nearly as much flack as a guy like Gobert took for the Jazz. Joel Embiid takes for the Sixers. I mean, even like Chris Paul before making the conference finals with the Suns got called out a lot more than a guy like Donovan Mitchell does. I don't necessarily think it's always been his fault. I think he's generally a playoff riser.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, that's when he comes down to it. Massive playoff.
Brooke Devart
Big time.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, big time.
Brooke Devart
He's like great seasons. Like he's an all NBA player. I think he's really good. But maybe he looks even better if there's another guy who supersedes him on the pecking order. So if Evan Mobley becomes that guy for Cleveland and Mitchell like he did last season, was able to take a little bit of a step back, perhaps that helps long term.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, I had him on my short list. I actually looked at our most recent all NBA teams and sort of like use them as our like superstar jumping off point. And I think it, you know, is a little telling here because if you look at those teams, it's jokic, Giannis Tatum, SGA and Donovan Mitchell. It's Mobley, LeBron Curry, Anthony Edwards and Brunson. And then it's Cat, J Dub, Cade, Cunningham, Halliburton and Harden made all NBA third team. I don't think we will be including him or I guess we would be including him on this list as a guy that maybe can never take you to a championship as the number one dog. But of those 15, six have already led their team or teams to titles. Braun, Curry, Jokic, Giannis Tatum and sga. So you scratch them from the list. Two other guys are right there, still young, still improving, believable A1 stars to me. That's Halliburton and that's Anthony Edwards. Obviously conference finals runs for both these guys. Halliburton getting them to the finals. Basically as close as you can possibly get to winning a championship. Going to game seven and coming up short. So that leaves seven guys and you said it. Two Cavs, Mitchell and Mobley. Two Knicks, Brunson and Cat, Jalen Williams, who's obviously already won a title but wasn't the number one guy. And you know, is he like a Jalen Brown, which is completely fine. A Max guy, an awesome guy, but could he lead a franchise by himself? I don't know. And then Cade Cunningham and James Harden. So like I circled. I actually circled Mitchell. Then Mobley, to me is fascinating too. And then, and then really the Brunson and Cat, I think are like, can they, can they, like, can Brunson be the number one guy for a title winning team?
Brooke Devart
No, I had him on my list. I'm starting to think. No, I think you got to be able to guard.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
And he can't. Well, here's the thing. Maybe they can, but they can't do it with Cat. I don't think they'll be able to win with Brunson and Cat. Like, both of those guys make this list of potential number one guys who maybe are better suited as a number two guy. Yeah, Cat, I guess is the number two right now. Brunson is definitely the leader of the team for New York, but I just think it's hard to put together a playoff defense if your point guard and your center are zeros on the defensive end. So that is why Brunson made my list as well. Let's. Let's hear who else we got.
Jay E. Skeets
Well, Kate Cunningham, what do you think about it?
Brooke Devart
Too early to tell. Too early to tell.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Like, I believe in Kate Cunningham, but. All right, who else that maybe isn't obviously a team? Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Seven seasons he's had, the Hawks have won 40, 36, 41, 43, 41, 20 and 29 games since he has been in Atlanta. This, to me, this coming year, kind of feels like last chance saloon for Trae Young. This is the best built team he's had around him. The most depth he's had around him. Things just make sense in Atlanta. So this is kind of like make or break time to me for Trae Young. And then Devin Booker's another guy that I gotta question a little bit. Made the NBA Finals, 64 wins. And since then, lost in the second round, swept in the first round, didn't even make the play in tournament. He'll be 29 at the start of the season. The team, I think, I think is worse this year.
Jay E. Skeets
I know. Maybe not. Yep.
Brooke Devart
They're hoping for addition by subtraction though, right. Getting rid of Durant, getting rid of Beal, hoping things are more copacetic in the locker room, that they get some decent play out of all of their Phoenix sun centers and Malawatch as well. So maybe they're able to turn it around. But he's getting he's getting old, you know, like Devin Booker, not a young guy anymore. So I just don't know how it's going to happen in Phoenix with him as the number one guy is more what I'm saying.
Jay E. Skeets
And both these franchises, the Atlanta Hawks with Trae Young and the Suns with Booker now at least resetting, they are trying to get more of like an actual team, some defensive minded guys around these offensive superstars. Because both those guys are. They're on the short list of some of the best offensive players in the league. But will that be enough? And can they ever drag a team all the way by themselves? Yeah, those are good ones. I'm sure there's a lot more that people are yelling in the stream team. Let us know in the YouTube comments. You know, I already talked about Sabonis. I don't know if you consider him a superstar, but he's been an all NBA guy. Yeah, he is. No way. That one's the number one guy at this point. But then you get into guys like, you know, Shen Goon and stuff like that. Like, again, it's like now you're like stretching the definition of a superstar to me. Like, these guys are good. They're all NBA good and all star good, but they're not superstars. There's only like a handful of those guys. Like really. But let's hear from you guys. Next one. Greetings from Canada. All right, you're not just my favorite basketball podcast, but one of my favorite podcasts ever. Oh, we sound like the 101st best podcast of all time. Thanks so much for always keeping it fun. So Donovan Mitchell got engaged to RB singer and Grammy winner Coco Jones, joining a long list of celebrity NBA couples. Which couple is your favorite? And follow up, if you could win one in an egotist, which would it be? And why? Keep on. No dunking. That's from Biked Goods.
Brooke Devart
Biked Goods.
Jay E. Skeets
Biked Goods. I didn't know this. This was news to me. Donovan Mitchell getting engaged to Coco Jones. So congratulations, Coco Jones to the lovely Coco.
Brooke Devart
I did just see the most amazing photo on Instagram. Taylor Rooks just got married. Our friend Mike Kaplan was at the wedding dancing with Donovan Mitchell. There's a photo of Donovan Mitchell with his arm around Cap. Ah, you can tell they're screaming something. So that might be my favorite couple. Donovan Mitchell and Mike Kaplan at his wedding.
Jay E. Skeets
That's cool, man.
Brooke Devart
As for, like real NBA pop culture couples, tough to beat Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries for me.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, wow, you're Going back?
Brooke Devart
Yeah. Married 72 days. Somehow Chris Humphries started getting, like, most improved player votes. We had to take Chris Humphries seriously as a basketball player for, like, three months because he was married to Kim Kardashian. That is the. The only reason.
Jay E. Skeets
Wow.
Brooke Devart
Because as soon as they got divorced, we never heard it from Chris Humphries again.
Jay E. Skeets
He's gone. We didn't. He was 72 days.
Brooke Devart
72 days.
Jay E. Skeets
I wanted to check what his number was. He's a 43 guy.
Brooke Devart
Yeah, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
I was like, he should wear 72. That'd be funny. Wow. So you're going back even though it didn't work out. Okay.
Brooke Devart
Oh, yeah. It didn't work out.
Jay E. Skeets
No, no, no, not at all. One that is seems to be working out that I enjoy. When you see them on social media, Bam. Out of bio. And A.J. wilson.
Brooke Devart
Very cool.
Jay E. Skeets
That's a pretty cool NBA, WNBA like, power couple. Yes. They both look awesome. They're just always supporting each other at their games, stuff like that. So I like that one right now. And, you know, we already talked a little bit about Klay Thompson and his new girl, his new stallion. Yeah, we did. We brought it up the other day. Maybe you weren't here, actually.
Brooke Devart
That could be.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. You weren't here. Tess and I mentioned it.
Brooke Devart
Okay, good. Yeah. Honestly, Great for Klay Thompson.
Jay E. Skeets
Great for Klay Thompson.
Brooke Devart
Great. I think he's going to have a great season this year. Well, 100% bounce back.
Jay E. Skeets
He's calling it now. Yep. The Megan Bounce Back.
Brooke Devart
The Megan Bounce Back, which is ironic.
Jay E. Skeets
Egot to answer that second part. An egot that, for those that don't know, an individual wins all four major entertainment awards. Emmy, that's the E. Grammy, that's the G. Oscar, that's the O, and T is for the Tony Award. You're talking plays, you're talking Broadway. Which one would you want to win the most in?
Brooke Devart
For me, it would be an Ogette, Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Tony in that ranking.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay. Oscar first.
Brooke Devart
Oscar first seems the most prestigious.
Jay E. Skeets
You're a movie man for sure. And you're probably right. Yeah.
Brooke Devart
I just think it's the biggest deal winning a movie award rather than a TV award. That's an easy one.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
So Oscar over Emmy. I think Oscar and Grammy are on the same level, though. If I was doing a Tears for Awards, it would go Oscar, Grammy, Tier 1, Tier 2 would be the Emmy, and Tier 3 would be the Tony.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, okay, fair enough.
Brooke Devart
Nobody. Nobody has ever seen anybody who has won a Tony do a performance.
Jay E. Skeets
Nobody has ever seen anybody.
Brooke Devart
But I'm telling you, A, nobody watches the Tonys. That is true.
Grainger
Okay.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Okay.
Jay E. Skeets
That's a.
Brooke Devart
B, the people that win the Tonys. 99 of people have not seen these.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay. I see they're not as popular. Exactly.
Brooke Devart
Exactly.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Okay. But you're a Broadway. You're a Broadway man. You love the.
Grainger
I. I enjoy a live performance. You do, absolutely.
Jay E. Skeets
But you do even yourself. You do not watch the Tony Awards.
Grainger
Is it. Where is it on TV even? I mean, I think it might.
Jay E. Skeets
I would think it has to be.
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Who's hosting the Tony Awards?
Brooke Devart
Neil Patrick Harris.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, good.
Brooke Devart
I guarantee he has hosted it.
Grainger
Oh, he has hosted it.
Brooke Devart
He's got to have.
Grainger
There's a big name probably this year, Ariana DeBose.
Brooke Devart
Okay.
Jay E. Skeets
Can't say I'm familiar with. With her. Oh, Cynthia. What's her name? She. She's hosting the Tonys. Or is. Or has.
Grainger
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Anyway, a lot of James Corden's I'm seeing. Oh, Neil Patrick Harris. We got you for 2013. We got you for 2009.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, I want to guess one. Who's the Australian guy? Wolverine.
Grainger
Oh, Hugh Jackman.
Brooke Devart
Hugh Jackman.
Jay E. Skeets
He's done it.
Grainger
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
0405.
Jay E. Skeets
Back to back to back.
Brooke Devart
Jack. Nathan Lane. That's a good one.
Jay E. Skeets
Nathan Lane. Hey, I just started watching the Gilded Age.
Brooke Devart
Cool.
Grainger
Save it for rapid fire.
Jay E. Skeets
I am in.
Grainger
Oh, God.
Jay E. Skeets
J.D. though, your answer to the EGOT question.
Grainger
I mean, I just want to be on the top 100 podcasts, if I'm being honest, but Toppies.
Jay E. Skeets
A peacock. Yeah, no, a peacock, actually, when you. That's a real thing already. It's somebody that does the four. Yes. Or a Peabody.
Brooke Devart
Okay, okay. Right.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, okay.
Grainger
That's a p. I forgot about the Peabody. I want an Oscar because literally more than half of my friends have Emmys already. So there's. It's not a flex. It's not a flex, everybody. We work at a turn with a Turner.
Jay E. Skeets
We know a lot of people now. Does that count? Like, in all honesty, does that count like a sports Emmy? Because there's a lot of different versions of the Emmys, right?
Grainger
I mean.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, Daytime Emmy.
Grainger
It's an Emmy.
Brooke Devart
It's an Emmy.
Jay E. Skeets
It's an Emmy. I know, but. Okay, so you're saying it counts.
Grainger
Well, it's an Emmy award. I don't know.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, it's a sports. Well, it's a little.
Grainger
Oh, I know. There's an asterisk.
Brooke Devart
It looks like.
Jay E. Skeets
I think they're Trophy.
Grainger
It's the same trophy. Nobody is putting on their LinkedIn Emmy Awards with an asterisk.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Grainger
You know.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Grainger
So. Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
You're going Oscar too. Yeah.
Grainger
The most prestigious.
Jay E. Skeets
The correct answer. Let's be honest. I'm team Oscar as well.
Brooke Devart
Emmy might have Emmy trophy is sick, though.
Jay E. Skeets
It's sick.
Grainger
Oh, yeah.
Brooke Devart
Holding the globe looks the coolest on a bookshelf.
Grainger
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Right.
Brooke Devart
Agree.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Grainger
It could do the most damage if you hit somebody.
Jay E. Skeets
Victor Solomon could never, ever come up with something as cool as an Emmy trophy. Yes.
Brooke Devart
He's like, yeah, I like that gold thing, but what if you put it in glass?
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
Brooke Devart
Just thinking. Throw it in some glass.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, final one here on the beach. Carlos Boozer is on a new Bravo dating show and referred to himself as an NBA legend. Two part question. Is this true? The part about Carlos Boozer being a legend? I think not. The fact that he's on the dating show. I put him somewhere on the David Roth scale between a guy, just a player, could be a long or short career and a dude getting close to being in the non existent hall of. Very good. Where does Boozer stand? And can we get weekly reviews on this show over the summer? That is from Ray Kings Court. It is a show. It's a dating show on Bravo. I haven't watched it yet. I think. I think it premiered like a week or so ago. Okay. King's Court stars all star Carlos. Carlos Boozer, supermodel Tyson Beckford and WWE legend Titus o'. Neill.
Brooke Devart
Bro, I did not know that was Titus o'. Neill.
Jay E. Skeets
So three. Three dudes there. King's Court. And they are. They're searching for love. Love among 21 women.
Brooke Devart
Okay, but they're all three of them are each searching for love.
Jay E. Skeets
Yes.
Grainger
Do they all walk away with love or are they competing for love?
Jay E. Skeets
Tune in to Peacock slash Bravo to find out. No, I think they're all just looking for love. This is. I think they had a queen's court. I don't know who the people were and the women were, but they're trying it with the guys, Boozer, Beckford and o'. Neill. So. No, I don't think we'll be covering this. I'll check in with Nora. Okay. Okay. We'll see.
Brooke Devart
Yeah, I would like to see a good clip at least.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe. It's hilarious. It probably is.
Grainger
Is it on now?
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. It started on 13th, I think so it's out.
Brooke Devart
But I remember liking Carlos Boozer. They did a dream or a redeem Team documentary, Right?
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
I feel like he was pretty charismatic.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
In that if I'm remembering correctly.
Jay E. Skeets
And we've loved any exchange we've had with him. He's.
Brooke Devart
Oh yeah, he's a good guy, honestly.
Jay E. Skeets
A great guy, like probably is on television. Yeah. But the first part of this question from Ray is NBA legend for Carlos Boozer. A guy, A dude. Where are you going, tk I respect your opinion on this, okay.
Brooke Devart
NBA legend is too much.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, yeah.
Brooke Devart
But he's not just a guy. One time all NBA. That's something. Two time all star. That's something.
Jay E. Skeets
Yep.
Brooke Devart
16. 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 52% shooting. How many threes do you think Carlos Boozer took in his career?
Jay E. Skeets
Took.
Brooke Devart
Took in his career?
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, God. I mean he. A 13 year career. 25 though. 14. Wow.
Brooke Devart
One of 14 career three pointers for Carlos Boozer. Yeah. So you know, he got played out of the NBA. The game changed. The fours were not shooting 18 footers from behind the back of their head. But when they were, he was one of the better guys at doing that. So I think like Ray says, he's getting close to being in the non existent hall of Very Good, which means he's probably in the hall of Pretty good.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Which is not very good, but pretty good.
Jay E. Skeets
I think you're right. That's exactly where I would slot him. Not in the hall of Very Good, but close. Knocking on the door. Yeah, you're right. To average 16 and 10 over a very long career is something. It was good. Two time all star, both with the Jazz. He did win a gold and a bronze, unfortunately for him, in the Summer Olympics with Team usa. So he's got a couple of of medals. So a great career. Charismatic. I hope he just finds love.
Brooke Devart
He needs to find love.
Jay E. Skeets
21 women. I wanted to go back to that. Is there King's Court blackjack at all? Why 21? Interesting. It's a part I couldn't figure out. Maybe just so they can split it. Like maybe they do dates of seven.
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
You know, like the three guys have seven women. Well, they do that on cards. You're right.
Brooke Devart
They definitely do that kind of stuff.
Jay E. Skeets
So I was like, why, why 21, not 20?
Brooke Devart
Interesting. Interesting number.
Jay E. Skeets
Maybe I have to tune in to find out.
Brooke Devart
I'll get back to how they do it. Why would they pick that?
Jay E. Skeets
Why would they pick that? Did. Did they do that in Queen's court too? I got a lot of questions. I got to start watching this show.
Brooke Devart
What do you think they should put instead of NBA legend NBA All Star.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Accurate still in honorific, I think, like.
Jay E. Skeets
You'Re allowed to go with NBA legend in these sort of, like, situations, though. It's like, I mean, like I just said, they called Titus o' Neal a WWE legend. Not really.
Brooke Devart
Carlos Boozer is a better NBA player than Titus o' Neal as a WWE superstar.
Jay E. Skeets
Facts.
Brooke Devart
But. But Tyson Beckford was at the top of his game when he was in the Toxic music video with Britney Spears.
Jay E. Skeets
You're right. You're right. Supermodel legend. They don't say that.
Brooke Devart
He is a legend.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, I would give him that. So I think I'm fine. Again, within, like, the context of the show and like, them trying to sell the show. That's okay.
Grainger
That's fine for the Bravo audience.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Grainger
He's a legend.
Jay E. Skeets
He's absolutely. But all they care about the Bravo fans. Will he be a Bravo legend?
Brooke Devart
Oh, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
That's what they want to know. Who knows what you've done in the past?
Grainger
He will.
Jay E. Skeets
You have high hopes for Carlos.
Grainger
Put me down for he will become a Bravo legend.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay. Yeah, I think we're going to get a lot more Boozer in our life. I just thought with his son's, like, coming into the league soon, just could be around a lot more. This is like the. This is like the soft launch maybe of getting Boozer back in our lives. And hopefully I believe he's. This will be his third go if he does find love and eventually gets married. I think he's been married and divorced twice.
Grainger
So that's the way to do it. Go on a competitive dating show with two other guys. One definitely more of a legend than you are.
Jay E. Skeets
Wow.
Grainger
No offense to Carlos.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay. Maybe we should start watching this summer content. This is really good.
Brooke Devart
Being a woman. Being one of the women. You're like, I don't know if I can get Tyson, but I think I can get Carlos. You gotta make those choices.
Grainger
Wow.
Jay E. Skeets
It's gonna be crazy. I don't know. Tyson Beckford's personality could be a dick for all we know.
Brooke Devart
That's probably true.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. I mean, he probably should be because he's so handsome.
Brooke Devart
It's gonna be a crazy.
Jay E. Skeets
Can't have it. All right.
Brooke Devart
Double competition, though, huh? It's like the Bachelor. There's one bachelor competing for anyone. This one. They're like, hey, we're going both ways. You gotta be a two way player. Which was not a strength for Carlos.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, no, I wasn't. That could be an issue. Could be an issue.
Brooke Devart

Intuit QuickBooks
This episode is sponsored by Hulu. So all right, guys and girls, is happening. King of the Hill is officially back. It's been 15 years and now Hank and Peggy are finally returning to Ireland. Texas.
Jay E. Skeets
Texas.
Intuit QuickBooks
After a little detour to the Middle East. But home's looking a bit different these days. Bobby's all grown up running a German Japanese fusion restaurant in Dallas. Because why not? And yes, he's still fumbling through his feelings for Connie. Boomhauer's now an online ladies man.
Jay E. Skeets
Bill's seen better days.
Intuit QuickBooks
And Dale, well, he's still just Dale. So yeah, Arlen's changed, but the alley boys still posted up where Hank left them, beers in hand. Alamo's on ice.
Jay E. Skeets
Same hill.
Intuit QuickBooks
New day, an all new season. The King of The Hill arrives August 4th, streaming on Hulu, Disney Plus.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, great questions. Honestly, what a. What a batch of cues. Keep them coming. No dunks, inc.gmail.com or you can tweet them in at no Dunks, Inc. Or leave them in the YouTube comments before we go, we are calling this the Drop. So let's have some rapid fire fun. Yeah, there's the music. We'll see if it's rapid or not. First one, did you guys know that two time all star Andre Drummond, potentially future NBA legend on a dating show, Andre Drummond. Did you know he was an aspiring actor?
Brooke Devart
I didn't know that.
Jay E. Skeets
I had no clue. But IMDb says he appeared in First Lady 2, Maria's Revenge, and the 2023 basketball movie Chang Can Dunk. And okay, I bring that up because the big penguin ain't done when it comes to acting. Drummond tweeted earlier this week, who I gotta talk to. To be in a Tyler Perry film would be a dream come true. And then he even told people to tag Tyler Perry slash Madea, him slash herself. So I want to know, what upcoming movie release would you like to appear in?
Brooke Devart
Trey, for me, it's got to be the Naked Gun. They're remaking it. Comes out August 1st. I think it's directed by one of the guys from Los Angeles, Lonely Island.
Grainger
It is.
Brooke Devart
And this is the trailer that has. I've been most excited to see any movie I've seen. The first time I saw it was before Mission Impossible.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Brooke Devart
And like, I had maybe heard that there was a Naked Gun, but it wasn't in my mind at that point. So when, like a little girl walks into a bank robbery, pulls off, pulls off the basket, it's Liam Neeson. I was like, I have a hundred, hundred percent. And then the trailer ends with an O.J.
Jay E. Skeets
Joke. Yeah.
Brooke Devart
And I was like a thousand percent in. So I'm excited to see this one. Parody films aren't very common these days.
Jay E. Skeets
No.
Brooke Devart
But I'm excited to see this one. The first. I mean, the original run of Naked Guns in the early 90s were hilarious.
Jay E. Skeets
Right? Right.
Brooke Devart
I don't know how they hold up, but they were great back then.
Jay E. Skeets
And you like Liam Neeson as.
Brooke Devart
I think he's a perfect guy.
Jay E. Skeets
I know.
Grainger
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
A perfect guy to sub in for Leslie Neal.
Jay E. Skeets
I'm with you. I saw the trailer. I'm intrigued. I'm very intrigued. And I love those original movies. So. Okay, let's get TK a cameo, I guess in that movie. It's still got time to CGI you in. What about you, J.D.
Grainger
Well, it's not a movie, but it's. You mentioned it before. The Gilded Age. I just want to be on the Gilded Age. I just want to be like a scruffy chimney sweep that walks into Bertha's life and, you know, tempts her away from George Rudd. Russell, you know.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay.
Grainger
What a. What a storyline that would be. And just to be in the same room with Carrie Coon. I mean, come on. Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Big Carrie Coon fan. Yeah, I finally got around to it. I mean, you guys been saying it for a while. So how many seasons is it?
Grainger
There's where I'm in the middle of three. Right.
Jay E. Skeets
And that's the newest season.
Grainger
That's it.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Okay. Okay. So I don't have a ton. No. To catch up. I mean, we're flying through the first season.
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
It's. I mean, it literally is just Downton Abbey. Yes. Obviously set in America, Erica. But it's great. I love it. I just love how, like, I mean, it's. I laugh so much in it. Just.
Grainger
Oh, it's so fun.
Jay E. Skeets
No, if two people are talking in a scene of the Gilded Age or Downton Abbey, for that matter, there's always a third person witnessing said conversation.
Grainger
Exactly.
Jay E. Skeets
Always.
Brooke Devart
Oh, yeah, always.
Jay E. Skeets
And like, they don't know what they're saying, but something's nefarious or what's going on. So that makes me laugh and does look cool, too. Yeah, it looks great. Looks great. I'm in. I'm in.
Brooke Devart
Big Oscar fan. I had to look up his name. Mustache guy. I love that guy.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah, it's probably a favorite. And then, like we said, Nathan Lane as Ward. Right. He's Ward McAllister.
Brooke Devart
I think I popped when he showed.
Jay E. Skeets
Up because they kept talking about this Ward McAllister. He gets out of the little buggy.
Grainger
And he not only delivers, but he's so over the top as a character. It's so good. I love it.
Jay E. Skeets
As for me, an upcoming movie release I want to appear in. I'd love to be a roadie in Spinal Tap 2.
Grainger
Yeah, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Coming out in September. Spinal Tap 2. Weird. The premise, pretty simple. The band is reuniting after a 15 year break for one final concert. I mean, I'm in enough.
Brooke Devart
We got all the original perfect premise.
Jay E. Skeets
Director Rob Reiner, we got guest McKeon, Harry Shearer. I mean, you know, you know, there's gonna be cameos galore in this thing too.
Grainger
Yeah, for sure.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. I'd like to appear in Spinal Tap 2. Will it be good? Probably not, but maybe. Maybe. Maybe long enough.
Brooke Devart
I feel like I'm giving legacy sequels more of a chance than I ever have.
Grainger
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
Right now, like, Happy Gilmore 2 comes out tomorrow. Cannot wait.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, that out tomorrow.
Brooke Devart
It's a Netflix job. So Easy to watch, but definitely gonna see that. And then, like I said, Naked Gun is a reboot. I mean, they're coming out with a Running man remake, which I want to see.
Grainger
It looks great.
Brooke Devart
And then what you're saying is gonna be awesome. It's gonna be ridiculous as well. I'll at least watch it.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
They've got 40 years of ideas that they could throw in, I guess.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, I couldn't believe. It's like 41 years ago the original came out. That's mind blowing. It's nearly as old. That's wild. I didn't think it was that old. Brilliant. Cheney. We got a rewatch Spine Tap before we watch Spinal Tattoo.
Grainger
Yeah, I've watched it in the last year for sure.
Jay E. Skeets
Really?
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Held up, of course. Good, good.
Grainger
Of course. So good.
Jay E. Skeets
Next one here. Damian Lillard is headed back to the Blazers. Chris Paul headed back to the Clippers, and inexplicably, Oasis back on stage. So let's keep the reunion tour going. What or who else would you love to see? Get Back Together Again?
Brooke Devart
I'd like to see Will Ferrell and Adam McKay start working together again. They had a big falling out because Adam McKay cast John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss on Winning Time. When Will Ferrell was originally cast as Jerry Buss on Winning Time, obviously Will Ferrell, a huge Lakers fan, was the guy. And then Adam McKay hired John C. Reilly behind his back. Didn't tell Will. They did their best work of their careers together. They made anchorman. They made, like, five great movies in a row together, step brothers included. And now we've got will frell in PayPal commercials. That's like.
Jay E. Skeets
That's the most commercial, most depressing commercial.
Brooke Devart
That exists, is that they've made two of these PayPal commercials with the funniest guy of our 20s doing the dumbest commercial that exists. I hate those commercials. And it makes me so sad to see Bill Farrell having to do that. So these guys need to get back together and make something funny to good.
Jay E. Skeets
Love it. Squash that beef.
Brooke Devart
Yep.
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Get them back together.
Grainger
And what a show to end a relationship over. It just wasn't even that good.
Jay E. Skeets
No. Yeah. That's a whole other part. Yeah.
Grainger
I mean, no shade to John C. Riley. I mean, it's like it just didn't work. It didn't work.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. So, okay. What about you, jd? Who do you want to get the reunion going?
Grainger
Simon and Garfunkel guys?
Jay E. Skeets
They're both still alive?
Grainger
Yeah, I think so. I didn't look it up to be.
Jay E. Skeets
Honest, I have no clue. I mean, we're losing some legends over the last little while.
Brooke Devart
That's art.
Grainger
Everybody's touring, everybody's getting back, you know, Spinal Taps getting back into the game. Why not Simon and Garfunkel?
Jay E. Skeets
Sure.
Grainger
Nobody harmonizes like those two. Nobody. I mean, Paul Simon, I love the guy, but come on, Garfunkel, he's that secret. He's the peanut in the Eminem. You know what I'm saying?
Jay E. Skeets
Oh, wow.
Grainger
Yeah, you need it together.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, Simon and Garfunkel. I also went with sort of music related answer here. Back in the day, we did have A Tribe Called Quest reuniting before Fife's passing. Right. Recently, the clips, after what, 16 or 17 years between albums, they're back. It's pretty good. So let's keep it going. One more Outkast album. Why not? Let's do it. Come on. Right? I mean, I don't know if it'll live up to the hype, but who cares?
Grainger
Are you gonna wrench the flute out of his hand?
Jay E. Skeets
How you do that flute? Put it down for a second.
Brooke Devart
Did anybody listen to his piano album from this year?
Jay E. Skeets
I did not know.
Brooke Devart
It's better than the flute.
Jay E. Skeets
Is it better?
Brooke Devart
Yeah, more listenable. But the weird part is, is that every track starts with somebody saying the name of the track. So, like, you're just listening through it, and it's like, I was walking through the fields one day, and then suddenly the piano starts kicking in or something like that. But it's better, but okay. Andre's so worried about not being good at rapping, know.
Jay E. Skeets
But that's bogus.
Brooke Devart
You're going to be upgraded rapping well.
Jay E. Skeets
And he does like appearances, obviously, on songs. And it's like, every time, it's like a banger. It's like, come on.
Brooke Devart
I agree.
Jay E. Skeets
All right.
Grainger
Yeah, you can take multiple takes, man. You know what I mean? You can punch in here and there. It's called producing an album. If you can do it, you've done it before.
Jay E. Skeets
All right, final one. The rosters are random, the stats are messy, and half the players will not be on an NBA team come October. But Tobias Bass wrote for the Athletic this week that NBA Summer League is extremely valuable, especially when we're talking about scouts. Scouts say the games offer real insight into player development, coachability, and potential fit. And I'm sure all that's true, but I want to know what or who from this summer was also important to you, Trey.
Brooke Devart
So because of our summer schedules, I've been apart from my family for a lot this summer. They were back in Illinois. While it was NBA finals in the draft, I was. Was here working. Then I went to Vegas and had a golf trip back in Illinois. And they were here the whole time. So we've been apart. So I've been doing a lot of media consumption. So books and summer blockbusters have been huge to me. If you're in the Atlanta area, come out and see me and Jeff Weiss talking about his new book, Waiting for Britney spears this Sunday, 3pm Acapella books should be a good time. The book is awesome. The book is really, really great. You know, if you are our generation, it's like you're just hearing every name you could possibly imagine. From the early 2000s, like, why was the Black Eyed Peas on so much all the time?
Jay E. Skeets
But they were. Should be good.
Brooke Devart
Yeah. Summer blockbuster is like, especially starting like July 4th week. That whole week I was just like, I'm gonna watch every summer blockbuster I can get my hands on. So I'll give these my best that I've seen. Best new blockbuster. Superman for sure.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay, I gotta see that one.
Brooke Devart
Really, really good. Best newish blockbuster like the last 10 years that I watched rewatched recently. Top Gun, Maverick. Awesome. Yeah, really, really good. And I watched it after I had seen F1 in theaters. Same director, Tom did it better. Oh, sorry, Brad. Tom did it better.
Jay E. Skeets
I mean, I took your advice. I did go see F1, and you know, my. My wife Nora is a big F1 fan. She was very hesitant. I think she was a little worried, nervous. I gotta say. I didn't love it. Yeah, it's pretty cheesy. Yeah, like, very cheesy. Does look cool, of course. Sounds awesome. Sort of worth seeing just for the big screen experience. But yeah, I'm. I'm with you. It's no Top Gun. Honestly, it's no Days of Thunder even go way back. But I got why you said go see it in the theater. Yeah, it does look good theater movie, but man. Yeah, there's some. Anyway.
Grainger
But you're also not a huge superhero guy, so.
Jay E. Skeets
No, but I feel like I. I think we should have went to Superman. It sounds like it's better of the two.
Grainger
Yeah, I liked it better. But, you know, I was. Soon as I said go see F1, I was like, ah, Rachel's like, I might hate it because it's. She's.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Nora did not. I. Nora did not like it at all. And again, maybe that's why she was hesitant to go see it. Anyway, I'm gonna go see Superman. Don't you worry.
Brooke Devart
Superman. Great. And then my classic blockbuster is jaws. 50 years old this year. Invented summer blockbusters. And awesome from beginning to end. A perfect movie.
Jay E. Skeets
I have not seen Jaws.
Grainger
What?
Jay E. Skeets
In. No, no, no, no. In. I was gonna say it's got to be 35 years. Like, I have not seen so long. I saw it when I was a. I saw when I was a teenager. So. Yeah, a long time ago.
Grainger
I hate to say that. I saw it in the theater when it came out.
Brooke Devart
That must have been awesome.
Grainger
Yeah, but I hate hearing it. It's 50 years old. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brooke Devart
I was.
Grainger
I was a young child and it was very scary. And my younger brother, who was younger than me, was under the seat most of the.
Jay E. Skeets
Really?
Grainger
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But we knew.
Brooke Devart
How old was he when he was seeing.
Grainger
Well, I must have been five, so he would have been four.
Brooke Devart
That's awesome.
Jay E. Skeets
Hey, man, 70s, that'll keep you out of the water.
Grainger
Yeah, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Yep.
Brooke Devart
That's so good.
Jay E. Skeets
Good stuff. Great list. What about you, J.D. what or who from this summer was important? Important to you?
Grainger
The most important thing about this summer is the goddamn end of it, because this summer has sucked. It's just been a lot of work. Haven't gone anywhere. It's hot as hell here. We've been here for 12 years. I promised myself I would never complain about the heat, but I'm complaining about the heat.
Jay E. Skeets
It's been bad.
Brooke Devart
It's been bad.
Grainger
The bugs are bad.
Jay E. Skeets
Bugs are brutal.
Grainger
And. Yeah, just been a stressful non stop, you know, whirlwind. Got one of my podcasts ended. I'm trying to launch another podcast. It's just. Just a lot of work.
Jay E. Skeets
Hey, speaking of movies, go check out Thumb War.
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
And Rachel, we're doing.
Grainger
We're doing Happy Gilmore. Not this week. We're doing Fantastic Four this week and then Happy Gilmore 2 next week.
Jay E. Skeets
So watching more movies than Trey Kirby is.
Grainger
Yeah, well, then we got more movies coming up. But anyways, I would like JD Lighter box. I don't.
Brooke Devart
I would like to keep track of your movies.
Grainger
Yeah, well, that would require even more work.
Brooke Devart
Also true.
Grainger
But yeah, yeah, get out of here this summer and then, you know, the stupid school schedule, like. But by the time I can actually take a breath, my kids are back to school, so get out of here.
Jay E. Skeets
Well, I have a similar answer to you, J.D. what? To me, this summer was important. I went with air conditioning. It's been an insane summer down here, and we've been here for A lot of it. And it's been rough. And like, you know, we moved into our house, what, five or six years ago. It was a fairly new build, but any house, you know, you get to that five, six, seventh year, things start breaking.
Grainger
Yep.
Jay E. Skeets
Things just stop working. Knock on wood. Air conditioner's okay and it's been working overtime this summer, so we're good right now. But, yeah, it's just been unbearable. The bugs. Oh, man.
Grainger
Yeah, the mistake.
Jay E. Skeets
Mosquitoes. Luckily, like, are you guys, like, you get bit by mosquito and you're like, okay, I got bit my mosquito and nothing really happens? Or do you like, balloon up like, like Nora does and really itchy and stuff like that?
Grainger
I don't balloon up, but I feel them and I itch for hours afterwards.
Jay E. Skeets
I luckily don't have that. Yeah, I just get bit and I'm like, oh, yeah. It's like a little thing appears and it just dissipates right away.
Brooke Devart
Yeah, it's like a shishito pepper for me. One in ten is itchy.
Jay E. Skeets
Okay. That's a good way to put it. All right. That's it. That's rapid fire. Not so rapid. That's hopefully a classic. Did we help ourselves crack the top 100 best podcasts of all time according to Time magazine? We'll find out. I guess we'll find out tomorrow after they listen to this. After we to the Time Magazine people. Appreciate you guys joining us here. This will be our final podcast of this week. Back next week probably on Tuesday for a couple more pods. If you got ideas for things you want the boys to talk about, let us know. Send those in by way of email or in the YouTube comments or tweet us in. I did have an idea. I think the NBA has one of those things right now on the app. You can do it online as well. They have like fan votes for like best dunk of the year, best handles, best play. Like, it's like six or seven categories. Could be fun. Like going through them, debating, looking at them, making our picks. I'd love to. Could be a segment segment at the very least next week. So maybe we'll do that. But make sure you subscribe, leave your boys a five star rating and review and we will see you next week. And this is exciting. JD Got more movies for you to watch. Yeah, Coming in August, we sort of are like restarting our whole movie franchise. Watch along. We did it with Fast and Furious, I guess, sort of back during the pandemic. That was a big hit for a lot of you. Watching every single movie from the Fast and Furious franchise. Well, we're doing it with Jurassic Park. That's right. Jurassic Pals coming in August. We're gonna watch every single one of these and do a podcast on each movie. How many are there? Seven or eight?
Grainger
Seven.
Jay E. Skeets
Seven. Okay. There's a lot. I haven't seen all them.
Grainger
We were deciding which ones. I said I just watched them all and I wanted to kill myself. And you guys are like, that's the one.
Jay E. Skeets
The franchise. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Grainger
I mean, it starts out great.
Jay E. Skeets
Oh.
Brooke Devart
I mean, Jurassic park, the original is like all timer.
Grainger
Yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
Banger. Was that a summer blockbuster? I come.
Brooke Devart
Yeah. I've been saying it because I knew that we were going to be taking this project eventually, so.
Jay E. Skeets
But then. Oh, I remember. I remember it going sour quickly because I did watch sort of 2 and 3.
Brooke Devart
I definitely saw those in theater.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
2 and 3.
Jay E. Skeets
And then. And then I got to be honest, I think I've only seen one of the. The Rebirths and the Worlds and all that.
Grainger
Oh, you're in for a treat.
Jay E. Skeets
And, like, they're probably garbage, so.
Grainger
We'll see.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Brooke Devart
He didn't say. No, we'll see.
Jay E. Skeets
And you know, you know my feelings about big dinosaurs. I've called it before, you know that they're just, like, coming up with new dinosaurs just to sell more merch and stuff like that. Yeah. So I'm already coming in with a bit of a bias.
Brooke Devart
Oh, yeah.
Jay E. Skeets
I'm already gonna be angry.
Brooke Devart
I'm interested to see how they keep finding these islands. Like, it's crazy that they find more and more dinosaurs, but there's just always another island behind the first island.
Jay E. Skeets
Hey, we got a lot to unpack when it comes to the Jurassic park franchise. Jurassic Pals will be starting at some point in August. It'll be here in your no Dunks feed. And we'll obviously make a whole YouTube playlist for it like we did with Fast Friends, so. Can't wait, I guess. I mean, I'm excited for the first time one, like you said. Yeah. And then we'll go from there.
Brooke Devart
Excited to see some new movies.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah. Yeah. So if you want to watch the movies along with us, get started. Fire up Jurassic park, the original, which was what, 93.
Grainger
Yeah, 94. 93.
Jay E. Skeets
Yeah.
Grainger
One of those.
Jay E. Skeets
Well, it was before the raptures came around. The movie was so good, they named my favorite franchise after them. So. Can't wait for that. But, yeah, we'll be back next week. And until then, Clipper Bro, you heard it here first.
Brooke Devart
Have a great time.
Jay E. Skeets
Turn up.
Brooke Devart
Love you guys. Awesome. Thanks for joining us. And Connor King here in the Stream team told us that one time he traded a bag of hot Cheetos for a bag of carrots because he thought the carrots would help his eyesight and he had recently just got glasses. Said that was the worst trade of his life.

Brooke Devart

Podcast Title: No Dunks
Host/Author: The Athletic
Episode: The Drop | Giannis To Play In EuroBasket, Terrible Trades & Power Couples
Release Date: July 24, 2025
In this episode of No Dunks, hosts Jay E. Skeets, Brooke Devart, Grainger, and producer JD dive into the latest NBA happenings, discuss significant trades, highlight standout performances from the Summer League, and explore intriguing power couples within the basketball community. The conversation is peppered with humor, insightful analysis, and engaging interactions among the hosts.
The hosts begin by addressing recent minor deals in the NBA:
Josh Okogie signed a one-year, $3.1 million deal with the Houston Rockets. While not game-changing, Okogie is recognized as a capable defensive wing.
Lindy Waters III agreed to a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Known for his three-point shooting, Waters has previously played with OKC, Golden State, and briefly with the Pistons.
The Phoenix Suns were active in free agency, claiming former Lakers guard Jordan Goodwin off waivers and signing Jared Butler to a one-year deal. Despite signing, Butler hasn’t made a significant impact yet.
Notable Quote:
Jay E. Skeets [06:19]: "These are all like fine signings, like, obviously not breaking the bank on any of these guys."
A spirited discussion unfolds around Chris Paul returning to the Clippers and retaining the number three jersey. Bradley Beal, a new teammate, has agreed to give Paul the number he's worn throughout his career.
Brooke Devart expresses surprise:
Brooke Devart [10:32]: "I don't know if we could put together a full starting lineup of players who let Chris Paul wear number three once he got traded."
The conversation touches on the cultural significance of jersey numbers, with references to other legendary players like Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson who also wore number three.
Notable Quote:
Jay E. Skeets [14:22]: "Unless I'm forgetting somebody, you tell us in the comments."
The NBA Summer League teams were recently announced, featuring:
First Team: Nick Clifford, Kyle Filipowski, David Jones Garcia, Jordan Miller, and Terrence Shannon Jr.
Second Team: Ron Holland, Isaac Jones, A.J. Mitchell, Con Knipple, and K.J. Simpson.
Kyle Filipowski earned the Summer League MVP with an impressive average of 29.3 points per game, leading the league in scoring.
Notable Quote:
Brooke Devart [16:31]: "The youngest guy on the first team is Kyle Filipowski. He's going to be 22 in November, I believe."
A significant highlight is Giannis Antetokounmpo's intention to represent Greece in the upcoming EuroBasket. This decision sparks discussions about the participation of NBA stars in international tournaments and its impact on their NBA commitments.
Brooke Devart emphasizes:
Brooke Devart [18:10]: "Excellent female basketball. Super fun to watch."
The group anticipates a competitive tournament featuring other NBA talents like Luka Doncic for Slovenia and Nikola Jokic for Serbia.
Notable Quote:
Jay E. Skeets [19:14]: "They got the best guy."
Referencing an ESPN article by Zach Cram, the hosts discuss the most damaging NBA trades from the 2020s:
Brooke Devart shares her favorites:
Brooke Devart [29:38]: "The Pistons hiring Monte Williams... That was a hilarious one to me."
Notable Quote:
Jay E. Skeets [32:29]: "Most draft busts these days are, like, wrong situation or injury early in the career. Not often is it just this guy can't play and can't get on the court."
The episode transitions to a lighter topic, exploring notable celebrity couples within the NBA sphere:
Brooke Devart humorously comments on fleeting relationships:
Brooke Devart [44:49]: "Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries for me... married 72 days."
Notable Quote:
Jay E. Skeets [45:04]: "But the first part of this question from Ray is NBA legend for Carlos Boozer. A guy, A dude. Where are you going, tk I respect your opinion on this, okay."
