Podcast Listeners, this is for you. Welcome to no Dunks, presented by fanduel. This is the drop here in the classic factory. I'm Tess Melis. With me, it's the man in the middle, Trey Kirby. Hey, hey, yo, Trey just seems like he just woke up. And her man making the magic happen, it's J.D.
J.D.
hello.
Tassie (Tass)
What's going on, J.D. usually I'm the one who's a little sleepy weepy.
Trey Kirby
I was doing a Brent Berry.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, hey.
Trey Kirby
Where's my camera?
Tassie (Tass)
Where's my camera?
Trey Kirby
No, no. I've been awake for a long time. Got up early this morning to just get my shot blocked and turn the ball over for two straight hours. A great morning run.
Tassie (Tass)
Damn.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it do be like that sometimes.
Tassie (Tass)
Big blocking your shots because you're such.
Trey Kirby
You know, people were kind of just taking their turn this morning. It happened a lot here.
Tassie (Tass)
I'll make you feel better. I went to a court to shoot five free throws. I just wanted to. I. I worked out. Then I went to the court just to hit five free throws. It probably took me 18 shots, I think.
Trey Kirby
Nice.
Tassie (Tass)
So, okay, good. There you go. We got lots to get to in this show. We're gonna drop some hot playoff takes.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, maybe.
Tassie (Tass)
We got a rapid fire front. Of course we'll get to the Lakers and Thunder, but let's start with the Cavs and Pistons. Pistons got a 20 lead here in round two. Trey taking care of business. Both games at home. Where do you want to start? Is it the Piston side or is it the stinky Cav side?
Trey Kirby
Well, that's the thing. The big news coming out of this one, what everybody's talking about is the Cavs disappointment, the poor play of James Harden and Evan Mobley. First and foremost, I got Lucy football once again. I guaranteed on yesterday's show that he would have more field goals made than assists, and he couldn't do it. Evan Mobley played 35 minutes. He had one rebound.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. You know, like, I'd say Harden was way worse than Moly, though, because Mobley did a good job defensively.
Trey Kirby
Yes, sure. Yeah, I agree. But I mean, I would say the problem is that the Cavs are basically hosting their own disappointing players draft.
Tassie (Tass)
Sure.
Trey Kirby
And they got maybe three guys who would be first round picks because I would even throw Donovan Mitchell into the mix despite him having a nice scoring game. What? He ended up with 31.5 points, I believe, but just 2 for 8 in the fourth quarters. These have been two winnable games for the Cavs and Mitchell is shooting 4 for 14 in these fourth quarters getting outplayed by Cade Cunningham. So I'm kind of at the point where I feel bad for the Detroit Pistons because everybody just wants to talk about how bad the Cavs are. Even though the Pistons got down 31 against Orlando, have won five straight and are looking like the team we saw during the regular season in these five straight wins. 109 points allowed. 79, 94, 1 0, 19 7. Now, three of those are against the Magic, who are offensively challenged for sure, but still they shut them down, especially that game six, second half, but 101 and 97 for the Cavs, at least a good offensive team. We've seen them have great moments in the playoffs in the first two games against Toronto, and then since then it's kind of been a disaster. But Dana Jenkins is playing really, really well. Duncan Robinson is shooting the ball. Tobias Harris has got to be the oldest player to ever be a breakout star in the playoffs. The guy's nearly 34 years old and can't stop scoring 20 in a game. I heard Bones say on the broadcast last night he hadn't had 20 in back to back games at all this season. He's got seven straight with 20 or more. That's looking vicious down low. Like when the Pistons need a bucket, they can rely on Tobias Harris to hit a turnaround jumper. It's unbelievable. So I do feel bad that Detroit is definitely getting like overshadowed by how poor the Cavs are playing and how disappointing they've been through the first two games of this series. But Detroit has turned things around completely. They're ferocious on the defensive end, they're getting great performances from Cade, and their support guys are showing up well enough.
Tassie (Tass)
No doubt part of how they start really well is the Cavs always get off to a bad start. A lot of sloppy gyms. James Harden, that's who it's named after. If you haven't watched our show, the Sloppy Joes are the bad turnovers converted to sloppy Jims. They're now sloppy gyms. They're bad turnovers. I know he only had four technically yesterday, but I wanted to attribute a couple more to him as well, being that they're in the backcourt. Jared Allen just throws him a ball sort of loosely and James Harden didn't account for and Sar Thompson just flying through to grab it at all. That's half a turnover for James Harden. And then in the front court, he didn't come and get the ball. They couldn't get him the ball. So then Dennis Schroeder had to do his thing and turn it over. So half to that one as well. But really dumb ones. I mean, the toss ahead to Evan Mobley when you got two guys beside you on a break. On a break, but you try and throw it 40ft ahead. So there's that. Okay, that part is bad of James Harden. There's also the fact that he's just not scoring all that well. So there's that he's getting picked on defensively. So there's that he's also agitated by everybody. Yeah, yeah, so there's that. Yesterday Ron Holland got into his space and he got all bothered. Same with Asar Thompson. It was Duncan Robinson in game one. So the whole package and why I would say James Harden had a worse game than Evan Mobley is just because the whole package, while Evan Mobley did some good things defensively and some good things passing the ball, not scoring and not rebounding, as you mentioned that. That's for sure.
Trey Kirby
One rebound is, is pretty poor. And like, like you're right. Maybe Harden should have a couple of more turnovers, but four is like a livable number if you're doing literally anything else. But he wasn't scoring. He took two shots in the second half. He's not getting to the line. He can't really get separation for his step back jumper, which is his go to shot. And if he can't get separation for that, he's having hard times getting by like Duncan Robinson on drives. You saw that drive, 33 seconds left. Cads are down by six. Like if they get a three pointer off, we're talking about a clutch game that maybe they can end up stealing. Instead he kind of dribbles into two guys. I know Mitchell took a little credit for that turnover as well since he said he brought us our Thompson too close to James Harden. Nonetheless, the turnover goes to Harden and it's kind of like why is he the guy that's the trigger man at that point in the game? But still, it's not, not like Mitchell was doing anything either. The Cavs went 0 for 11 from three in the fourth quarter. They have been there to win both of these first two games in Detroit. Had a lead in this one. Had a lead in game one as well. But they're just falling apart in clutch time and Kate is not.
Tassie (Tass)
And they're having to dig from a huge hole. So they, they definitely were leading in the fourth quarter. They, they led by two there early. But a big part of it in game one and game two, they get down Double digits because they start so poorly. People might look at the box score and say, well, it's just 11 turnovers. That ain't a lot in total for a team. But they had six in the. So you get down big as. You could look at all of them. A lot of them definitely on James Harden, but just so many things go poorly to start the game. So they, they definitely recovered again in both games. But what we saw in round one for the Pistons was, was that they got off to a bad start for them and the Cavs didn't show up in either of these games to try and take away a little bit of the aggressiveness and the spirit of the Pistons, who are very, very, very good defensively. I just think they don't as the Cavs offense will get away from this Cavs team and ripping on them a second. But they don't move the ball enough. I think that you Cavs. Yeah, you just watch.
Trey Kirby
That's true.
Tassie (Tass)
You just watch some of their position. I thought their best possession was in the third quarter. Midway through the third quarter where Evan Mobley gets it sort of on the wing above the three point line. Here comes Donovan Mitchell for a handoff and he gets all the way down low into the paint and fires it to James Harden up top who makes a different move for him and dribbles hard down the lane. Immediately doesn't wait. And then he finds Mitchell who's repositioned in the third in the corner. I should say so. I mean that's, that's just good offense. I don't like looking at the raw passing numbers all the time. But we'll get to the Lakers okc game. The Lakers passed it 60 more times than okc does or did in game two. I think the Cavs could just do a little more of that. And they had 70 fewer passes than the Lakers did in their game. They literally just don't pass enough, I think. And everybody's kind of just standing around and you just need to see a little bit more of that. We'll get to some hot takes. I think Carl Anthony Towns touching the ball for the New York Knicks is. Helps them. And you would if you saw Mobley or Jared Allen literally in the short roll a little bit more. I think that would just help. So the Cavs stinky, stinky start to this series. They obviously have to go in game three. It's all on Saturday for this team. That's what the series comes down to.
Trey Kirby
Game three is definitely a must win for Cleveland. You can't come back from three. Zero. No team has done it yet. And they shot seven for 32 from three last night. So that means they were what, four? Let me do some math here. 14 for 38 in game one. 21 through 70 through two games here, only 30% from three for the Cavs. They have to be thinking they'll shoot better at home. They haven't lost a home playoff game yet. One or four against Toronto, haven't had one yet against Detroit. So like I said, they've been there to win both of these games, but it just feels disjointed offensively for the Cavs, it's definitely a. Your turn, my turn. Once they get into the fourth quarter, Mobley and Allen really become an afterthought. It's like, can Harden get to a step back or maybe a floater or Mitchell making impossible moves? It feels like he's never getting an easy basket in this series. He's having to do six euro steps to even get to a floater over a tall guy. Then on the other side, it's like there's not really an answer for Cade Cunningham on this Cavs roster. Like Strews did an okay job at times during game one, he had a bad game too. Dean Wade is doing his best, but he's not giving you enough offensively that it matters. And he's able to lose Cade at some times too. And those are kind of like their best chances. I don't like, I don't know if Mobley's capable of that. Like he's got a lot of size on Cade Cunningham. He does have good quickness. He's a good defensive player. Maybe that's something they should try. Cause Kate is killing him down the stretch. Like he just orchestrates everything. In game one, it was setting up little dump offs for Jalen Duran. Three straight buckets there last night. He was hitting jumpers and mid Rangers. He just looks like. He looks like the best player on the court. And the best players for the Cavs, all of them are coming up short.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, you're right. He definitely looks like the best player in this series. The fact that his teammates are allowing him to kind of chill for three quarters, the word chill is a little too extreme, but really not have to press until the fourth quarter. Nearly half of his shots were in the fourth quarter and also about half of his points also in the fourth quarter because of that. So credit to everybody else on that roster, mainly Tobias Harris for getting this start. Danish Jenkins as well. But literally he could just allow everybody else to sort of get them to the. Get him to the fourth quarter. And he is kind of unstoppable, whether it's Wade or whether it's Strus or they throw out the Jalen Tyson experiment. It was fine.
Trey Kirby
Pretty good yesterday.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, the. The. The corner shot, the shot just doesn't look good for him. But otherwise, the drives for him offensively, solid and playing defense, solid. But what a playoffs for Kate Cunningham. He's played the most minutes in the NBA, so he's playing a ton. And obviously the points are ridiculous. You know, leading the NBA 30.6 points per game and great efficiency. You know, on the cab side, maybe if they take away some things in the first half or they're playing a little bit closer and not turning the ball over, then maybe Kate has to do more, and maybe Kate's a little tired. More tired in the fourth quarter. But this team totally looks like what we're talking about in February and March. We were sitting in Austin, Texas, and we were going through predictions for the Eastern Conference, and I said I literally would pick the Pistons right now. You know, the Celtics didn't have Tatum at that point. Cade was healthy. And then I look like an idiot as Cade gets injured and they. And they go down 3:1 in the first series. Now they look like a totally different team. That stat you said about Tobias Harris that Brent Berry dropped.
Trey Kirby
Come on, man.
Tassie (Tass)
That's crazy.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
He didn't have two games in a row with 20 points during the regular season. Now he's at seven straight in the postseason. Come on, man.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I mean, maybe at least a little part of that is like he's moved up in the pecking order for sure. We're not even talking about Jalen Duran having a disappointing game or a disappointing series so far.
J.D.
It was.
Trey Kirby
It stuck out big time against the Magic. But when he's compared to the big men for the Cavaliers, like, you don't care because he is dominating inside. His presence, his physicality is important, but during the regular season, he was the number two guy for the Pistons. From a scoring standpoint, that has not been the case in the playoffs. Tobias Harris has had to step up, and he really, really has. He's played so many playoff games coming into this, like, 60 plus, and I think you would say that he was a playoff dropper.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
You know, Philadelphia was always wanting more from Tobias Harris, and now Detroit is getting everything that Philadelphia wanted when he was there for what felt like 15 straight seasons. But, yeah, the guy's almost 34 years old, having his Best playoffs and like looking great while he's doing it. When he's not getting his hip broken by Donovan Mitchell.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, yeah, he went down hard. Did you think Mitchell kind of pulled him down in a weird.
Trey Kirby
There is an angle where you can see him get like.
Tassie (Tass)
Like he touches his leg, grab the
Trey Kirby
back of Harris's leg. So definitely threw off his balance. You would have to think. But I've still never seen that a guy's. A guy's hip getting broken on a crossover. You hear about the ankle breaker all the time, but the hip breaker is pretty rare.
Tassie (Tass)
And seeing Tobias Harris being. Being labeled as a guy who is super efficient and now you can say he's underpaid because he was always overpaid for a long time. But now the two year extension for 26 per. He looks great. He did start a little poorly as that first series went on. Like he was there to take the shots. He was, he was in that role in the pecking order as you said. So he was there to do that. But he's gotten way better as the playoffs have gone along and I think The Pistons and J.B. bickerstaff were smart in asking him not to shoot as many threes or not require him to shoot as many trees last night. He was two of three last night. If there's any thing he could poke at in his playoff run here, it's that his three point shot has not been all that great. But in last night it was just two of three and super efficient. Obviously lots of credit to Danish. Jenkins, I think in that first half was super, super good. He was. Offensively he's a one man fast break. He played great defense on Mitchell. I don't, I don't know how he was able to stay in front of Mitchell. This one time where Mitchell was dancing. He was dancing but Dan Jenkins was holding him. And then. Yeah, offensive rebound. The guy was 11, 4 and 4 at half. So huge credit to him. Yeah, I thought every single Piston was, was there to play.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, totally. Drunken Robinson, 17 points. Another five, three, five, three, game one as well. He had some important ones in the fourth quarter. I thought like we're saying during. Not huge numbers, 8 points, 10 boards, but he was a presence inside. And our Thompson just, just makes plays like he's there. Andre Iguodala where he just like, oh, we need a tip in, we need a steal. Just doing little things here and there. Very Swiss army knife of him. And the Cavs haven't been able to play him off the court. Like his lack of shooting could be a problem. He almost hit a three last night. It went in but the ball is still on his fingertips so they had to take it off. But I saw it go in with my eyes. He shot it very confidently, got the grenade, knocked it down, didn't count. But like, that could be a sore thumb for the Pistons.
Tassie (Tass)
Right?
Trey Kirby
Having him out there as a non shooter. Having Jalen Duran out there as a non shooter. Cade goes up and down like he shot it well last night, but there are times when his jumper isn't there. That hasn't been a problem at all in this series. It's just been physical big boy basketball and that's absolutely the kryptonite for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. And again he doesn't have to do a lot on on his own shoulders or a lot is in place on his shoulders the first few quarters because the Cavs are stinky, stinky. So everybody else comes through and that's with the sar. Thompson getting into foul trouble and not being able to play a ton under 24 minutes and him still letting that rip that shot. And they're allowing Jalen Duran to be open and Mobley blocked him three times and so that. That matchup is what they want and they're happy with that. But he's. Mobley's got to be better on the offensive end. You mentioned the injury that Davion Mitchell. Davey, I'm calling, I am. Got some Mitchell problems, man. I'm calling Darren. I called him Darren. I'm calling him every D name but his frickin name. Yeah, Donovan Mitchell also injured himself. I think if this Cavs team goes out in this playoffs, I think you'll be seeing unfortunately the closeup of him turning his ankle on a fast break that he's leading and no one touches him and he rolls his ankle and hobbles out of play. You don't see that very often.
Trey Kirby
You don't see that very often.
Tassie (Tass)
Nothing happened. He just turned his own ankle.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, you'll see that in a men's league or something like that, but not the pros who generally know how to run up and down the court. I did think it was interesting to hear from Bones. It's like maybe five minutes left. He's like this is a big five minutes for the Cavs from an organizational standpoint. Because I mean Harden struggling through the game, Mobley is struggling through the game and they got the question hanging over their heads like how many times can we keep running back the same general team. Things obviously changed with the Garland For Mitchell trade. But that just accelerates. Or, sorry, Garland. For Harden. That just accelerates things for the Cavs because they're so worried about Donovan Mitchell wanting to come back to Cleveland. And I mean, losing the same way again would be the most disappointing possible end of the season for the Cavs, no doubt. Yeah, Bones, I thought. Nailed. It's like these five minutes matter for Game two and for the rest of the summer for the Cavs. It feels like we're talking like the series is over. They could have won either of these games. They still got two games coming at home in Cleveland that they can get back into the series, but it's just been disappointing from Cleveland, for sure.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Well, the first five minutes matters in game three. Yes. Because, yeah, the Cavs just aren't together. Then they do pick it up a little bit, but not so good to start. They have won their home games. They did it against the Toronto Raptors, so we will see if they can do that.
Trey Kirby
They look so good after the first two games of round one and round one. Yeah, they were going nuts. And then basically the Raptors just started turning them over. And it feels like the Cavs haven't been able to stop turning the ball over since Game 3 against Toronto.
Tassie (Tass)
3:00 Eastern on Saturday. That's what they get. Sounds early, right?
Trey Kirby
Three o' clock Eastern on Saturday.
Tassie (Tass)
Oof.
Trey Kirby
Okay. Yeah, I'll be there.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Is it bad for the home team that they started three? I guess not. Because they took care of business with an early start to start the playoffs.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
That was a 1 o', clock, right? Was it 12 o'? Clock? 12:30, 1 o'. Clock. Whatever it was. I. I can't remember exactly.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I don't know either.
Tassie (Tass)
That I'd have to click.
Trey Kirby
That seems like it was a hundred years ago.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Either way, it was an early start.
Trey Kirby
1.
Tassie (Tass)
Game 3 is their series season. No, there's no doubt. And the series. So, yeah, as Brent was sort of saying that. Yeah, there's huge implications, though, the whole thing. The whole thing. And whether or not you have to tear it all down again or some.
Trey Kirby
Some kind of change.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, a big change.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. But I mean, but also, it's like they're a team that's been proposed as a potential Giannis destination, and Evan Mobley is kind of like the swing piece. Like, would they include him? Because that would be somebody that the Bucks would want to get back. But now you're like, if you're the Bucks, you're like you're going to have to give us even more, of course, the way this guy's playing. So, yeah, this has been a, a bad week and a half. I feel like for Cleveland, again, I.
Tassie (Tass)
This seems really, really simple. But again, him in the short rolls or, or Jared Allen Moore in the short roles where those guys are at least touching the ball, I think is important to this team. They have to do that to get them involved at least. So everybody's involved. We shall see. Game 3. Any other random notes from this baby?
Trey Kirby
I like to see Amen Thompson in the crowd supporting his brother. You know, the Rockets got bounced in round one. I'll go watch my twin play some basketball.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, that was pretty cool.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I always like that when a brother or a teammate shows up to see another game played. It's nice.
Tassie (Tass)
Speaking of the Thompsons, Asar Thompson has knee pads in his leg sleeves. I think that's important. Like they're, they're sewn in. They're just part of the leg sleeve.
Trey Kirby
Sure.
Tassie (Tass)
And when he went down on his knees to get that steel with 30 seconds left from James Harden, he felt comfortable doing it because his knees are cushioned now. They're not like volleyball pat knees. They're just little ones you can see there. I, I think they should be a part of every leg sleeve.
Trey Kirby
You think they should be a part of every leg sleeve. Maybe the flexibility is a problem, but it really sets a tone from a leg standpoint. I'm willing to go to the ground.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Cuz my knees are supported.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. James Harden ain't wearing knee sleeves, that's for sure. But I'm thinking he's going to come through in game three.
J.D.
T.
Trey Kirby
I think this is the one. This is the one for Harden. Look, it's only been a quarter of his career playoff games that he has more turnovers than field goals made. Literally a quarter. Which means 75% of the time he has more makes than turnovers. And I'm saying game three guaranteed James Harden more field goals than turnovers. You heard it here.
Tassie (Tass)
You're a crazy man.
J.D.
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I'm guaranteeing it every game until it finally happens.
Tassie (Tass)
It is even surprising to me now, even though we've talked about it for a good 20 minutes, to know that the four turnovers were more than the amount of field goals he hit. And I watched him out there.
Trey Kirby
Exactly, exactly. Like you can live with four turnovers if you go 8 for 12, you know, not 3 for 13.
Tassie (Tass)
Totally other random notes. I want to fly through the cade block on Dennis Schroeder where his Follow through hit. Schroeder looked like he hit him right in the eyeballs. And intruder was trying to help his eyes afterward. I mean, that was. That was tough. But a clean block on the follow through is just a follow through. So I thought that was a good non call. I thought the camera shot. Want to talk about production going into the second quarter? It started in the raft. It was a drone. Okay. Started in the rafters. And the rafters have those blue lights within it, so the lighting looks cool in Detroit. So drone shots don't always look awesome. But that one was cool. And it came down. And then you saw the video board come into frame. So the video board looked cool from that angle. And then it zoomed in. I just thought that was cool. See a cool drone shot.
Trey Kirby
Who doesn't love a cool drone shot?
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, I love a cool drone shot. The drone was definitely caught in camera a couple times.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, they were nice with the cameras last night because, I mean, I'm thinking of the Lakers game when who was the sideline reporter? Maybe it was Christina Pink.
Tassie (Tass)
It was Cassidy Hubbard.
Trey Kirby
Oh, it's Cassidy Hubbard in the second one where she started like the. Like her stand up.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Talking about Luca Doncic. And they went from her to the bench where Luca was over there. Like a walk and talk. I thought that was pretty smooth as well.
Tassie (Tass)
Very smooth. Last thing for me, Dennis Jenkins. We always call him Danis Jenkins. And that's when one of our fans said, hey, hey, hey. You go to their webpage, and they have a pronunciation guide where each player says his own name. It's a two second clip, and it's Danis Jenkins. You know, kind of like he's from Denmark. Although when you listen to his clip, he says so quickly, it's kind of hard to tell if it's Dennis or Danis. And it's. But either way, Mark Volmar, our fan here on. On YouTube. Thanks for the heads up. It is.
Trey Kirby
Does appear to be Danis.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, it does appear to be.
Trey Kirby
They started saying Danis at the beginning of the season, even the Pistons. But the Pistons broadcasters, as he rose in status and established himself as a player, they got with the program Dana Jenkins. And now it's filtering down to the national broadcast. You're hearing it more and more. His correct pronunciation of a name. We'll never confuse him for Janice Dankins again. Because I've never met a woman named Janus.
Tassie (Tass)
No, no, that is. Hold on. That's sparking something in me. Janus. I'll save that.
Trey Kirby
You know what?
Tassie (Tass)
Janus no. No. Oh, who might. Oh, it's just sounds like another name, but it's not a Danus. It's not a. It's not a Janus. I'll get to it later. Do ever does every single page on the NBA website have a pronunciation guide for for all their names? Like these are little audio clips.
Trey Kirby
I don't know. That's not a question I know the answer to.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, I'm getting into definitely getting it because it's usually it's hey, got a basketball prep basketball reference. And you see the phonetics but some of them don't.
Trey Kirby
Some of them don't.
Tassie (Tass)
Dennis Jenkins does not.
Trey Kirby
We'll get it.
Tassie (Tass)
That's why he's Danis Jenkins.

Tassie (Tass)
right, let's get to the Lakers and the Thunder. What do you think about this one? The Thunder take care of business in the end.
Trey Kirby
Thunder take care business.
Tassie (Tass)
It was different.
Trey Kirby
It was different.
Tassie (Tass)
I know in the chats people were saying like our own personal chats. And people were saying, whoa, the Lakers, whoa. They're doing it because they were up in the third quarter.
Trey Kirby
They were up in the third quarter. They were up at halftime and but then you're like, wait a second. They went seven for 16 from three. That's awesome. Shake Eldris Alexander not having a great first quarter or great first half. Lakers up one. That wasn't good. They got another foul from Jake Elchis Alexandria three in the first half. He picks up his four fourth like 90 seconds in. Yeah, has to go to the bench. And then the Thunder ripped off a 22 to 4 run. They were down 5 when Shay subs out, up 13 when he comes back and it was basically AJ Mitchell and Chet. AJ Mitchell. This is incredible the way he has been able to step into the number two trigger man role for the Thunder with Jalen Williams absence. This is a game that easily the Thunder could have lost with Shay being in foul trouble. The Lakers actually, actually shooting the ball Pretty well. And instead a guy that's in his second year in the NBA went to work scoring, setting up teammates. Chet Holmgren is playing an awesome series so far. His size, his shooting has been a real thorn in the side for the Lakers. I think the size in general for the Thunder between Hartenstein and Chet is really giving the Lakers problems. You throw in Jared McCain getting dusted off. He played 22 total minutes in round one, and he's got how many threes through two games here? He's got seven threes, I think in two straight. In two games. He looks like a great player as well. Meanwhile, the Lakers didn't have Jared Vanderbilt, so they threw out a do tiero. This is the levels of teams we're talking about here. Yeah, this, I. This could maybe be a competitive series if Shea didn't play the entire time. And I would still probably take the Thunder.
Tassie (Tass)
It was incredible that his team won the minutes on the bench for Shay by 18. Yeah, that is. That is something. OKC's bench beat the Lakers bench. Even if the Roar playing a do Theo now I think he's in a do Theo. We're talking. You're right.
Trey Kirby
You're right.
Tassie (Tass)
Either way, he's got.
Trey Kirby
He's got to start playing better until he gets the Danish Jenkins treatment.
Tassie (Tass)
Theo, Theo, you're right for. Yeah, yeah. Like I'm good at pronunciations. I call Donovan Mitchell, Davion Mitchell and what I call him last time.
Trey Kirby
Darren.
Tassie (Tass)
Darren. Whoa, man. Anyways, OKC's bench beat the Lakers bench. 48, 20. And you know, there's a. There's a whole we need Luca thing. That's totally true. But it also happened in game one. So it's. It's this ongoing thing with. Even with Vanderbilt playing, I thought, yeah, the Lakers overall played a pretty good offensive game to do what they did to score over 100. Yeah. Even if there were 20 turnovers. I thought they were playing well. They were moving it and so they're whipping it around. They could have shot the three ball better because they were moving it around and there were some open shots. Sure. Not everyone's going to be Rui Achimura out there. That dude. I mean, just. We got to note it. I know they're saying it on the broadcast. He's four of seven from three in this playoffs. He's 57% from three. But overall in his career, he's 51% from three. 72 for 141. That's the highest three point percentage in NBA playoffs history for a three point shooter.
Trey Kirby
It's pretty amazing actually. Yeah, Playoff Rui.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Real guy, 143s. But A.J. mitchell on the other side definitely got a recent tan. Looking pretty good.
Trey Kirby
You think maybe like he hit the beach during the layoff that they had between round one and round two?
Tassie (Tass)
Yes, maybe. Yeah. Now that you say that, there's so much time off. Yeah, for sure. How good he was offensively. The footwork inside the threes. He played some de defense on Marcus Smart. You could see Shay as he had to go to the benches, nodding away. Wow, that guy, that guy's really grown. The footwork in there. They all work on the same in, in the, in the same parts of the court and they admire each other. So he did a really great job. Sam Presti, you did a really great job. I always look this up because I think it's, it's one of the best contracts in the league. He's in the first year of his three year, 8.7 million dollar contract. Guy's getting paid under 3 million per. So who's that? AJ AJ Mitchell. It's ridiculous. That's why he was part of my vote for executive of the year.
Sponsor Announcer
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
And it sounded crazy when you. Because they just brought everybody back.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, but he didn't play last year.
Trey Kirby
True. I mean he got spot minutes in the, in the finals, but he was dealing with injury. But I'm watching these guys come in. Jared McCain, a trade deadline acquisition. Jalen Williams with the eye, who is their third big. He's awesome when he comes in, had a big four point play. He really was in this one. I'm like, yeah. I mean Sam Presti, even though he built this team two years ago, this is still the team and they're still clearly, clearly the best team. To the point where I kind of agree with this here. Berto eats here in the stream team says, is AJ Milk Mitchell the next Brunson or Harden? A guy who's like a bench player who could then be the number one guy for a team. I would probably have him more on the Brunson level than the Harden level, but I don't think it's super far fetched. It is going to be a question for the Thunder when he actually gets to his second contract. Like a real big contract. They will have other players that they're paying as well and they're going to want to find a way to keep this guy around. And teams around the league should be getting their ducks in a row to at least make a giant offer on a guy like A.J. mitchell, because it feels like he could lead a team the way he's able to do this in the playoffs his first time around.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, the Jalen Brunson comparison is fitting because they're both second round picks and they both weren't extremely hot to start their careers as a number one guy at all. People thought that Jalen Brunson was overpaid when he went from the Mavs to the Knicks and that's when he took off. I can't put him at that level yet, but I, I, I definitely would put him more in that spot than the James Harden spot. But a good comparison.
Trey Kirby
Birdo.
Tassie (Tass)
I like it. Berto.
Trey Kirby
And of course they are all left handed, so that helps. It's really nice.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, and so is LeBron because he, he did that nicely switch last night, right? That was cool. That was very cool. The guy was phenomenal last night again. I thought the Lakers were playing well. Pretty much.
Trey Kirby
They, it does feel like they're playing about as well as they can and they have been in these games in the second half and still somehow the Thunder end up covering these gigantic point spreads. We talk about every time, like how they're just blowing it out in the end. Reeves was better last night. 31 points. His first real good game of the playoffs. There were times certainly when he looked sped up. He finished with five turnovers.
Tassie (Tass)
That's a great sign.
Trey Kirby
Getting him back rolling is important if they're gonna steal a game. Maybe they shoot well from three for an entire game playing back in la. But the big news coming out of this one for sure was yeah, the Thunder looked great, but a lot of referee talk last night had a big huddle at the end of the game. The Lakers all going and confronting John Goble and his friends. Meanwhile, the Thunder are literally standing over to the side watching and laughing at the Lakers complain how hard they were complaining. And look, everybody had stuff to say post game except for LeBron. He's like, we lost. He didn't care. LeBron isn't playing the Thunder criticism game, but JJ Redick was from for LeBron's behalf and for Austin Reeves behalf. And then Reeves obviously was very, very upset with the way the officiating went down last night. And that was a weird game. There was a lot of weird stuff happening from a flagrant standpoint, from calls that were going one way or another. I was laughing that every time John Goble went to the video review it went against the Thunder. So Thunder fans are upset losing every challenge it felt like. But the Lakers were very, very upset with the way this game was officiated. And that's what the Thunder do to everybody. They follow you a lot. It ain't going to get called all the time, especially in the playoffs. But they're able to keep their heads because you know, they're getting the calls and no other team that they play is able to keep their heads. They get so obsessed with the way the referee is going down that they lose track of the game and take themselves out of it at times you
Tassie (Tass)
slipped in that they get the calls, but they don't get all the, they don't get all the calls. And I'm not trying to go out and defend them.
Trey Kirby
They get the non calls. That's the, that's the big thing is that they, they don't get called for the files that you're like, wait a second, how's that not a foul?
Tassie (Tass)
Well, sometimes Shay goes. Went to the floor in this game and he didn't get a call and he literally was on the floor. And so there's that. And sometimes you'll see a chat. He flopped in the first half. Stan Van Gundy on the call saying, yeah, that's a flop. Don't get that call. Don't get that call. The video review came through, as you said. A lot of them went to the Lakers side. He did not. He did not get the call in that case. So I was starting to make notes and say, whoa, this is exactly going against what all the people are saying, that the Thunder are getting all the calls. But then, you know, Alex Crusoe, flop, he got a call. And so the calls do swing the other way too, for sure. But you're right, the Lakers were extremely mad throughout this game. J.J. redick got into it with Ben Taylor. I wish I just thought Ben Taylor was a musician, but I can't, man. He's also a referee because I'm always looking at.
Trey Kirby
He's a brilliant YouTuber.
Tassie (Tass)
Is he?
Trey Kirby
Well thinking basketball.
Tassie (Tass)
That's Ben Taylor. That's Ben Taylor. That's a different guy, though.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, different Ben, he's a liked basketball Ben, not referee Ben.
Tassie (Tass)
He had J.J. red was right in his face. And John Goble. You had Stan Van on the, on the broadcast saying, John Goble's getting, getting ripped by the fans. This is OKC fans. We're ripping them. The refs, you suck. Refs, you suck. And Stan Van said, John's a nice guy. He just literally wanted to defend the guy.
Trey Kirby
He's a nice guy, man.
Tassie (Tass)
They.
Trey Kirby
He's Got a family.
Tassie (Tass)
The referees cannot get it right for either side. Cause as you said. So you're thinking, you think that the Lakers, the opposing team from the Thunder side, don't get the non calls or the Thunder get the non calls.
Trey Kirby
Every team the Thunder plays against thinks they're playing eight on five.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, that's what they think.
Trey Kirby
And look, I mean, like, LeBron has taken five free throws, I think in two games. JJ says he got the worst whistle of any superstar ever. That was crazy that he didn't get a continuation on the one where he hit the jumper after getting bumped and he picked up the ball. Even Stan Van Gundy's like, that should absolutely be a continuation. But I don't know. The. The Thunder bring a level of intensity and physicality from the jump. Every single player on their team does it. Some guys are more egregious about it than others, but it puts the onus on the referees to not be able to call everything the entire time. So that's just how it ends up. And eventually it gets under the skin of whoever they're playing. In this case the Lakers. Meanwhile, the Thunder take after Shay's personality. They are just so even keeled. They're rarely getting rattled, but other teams are getting rattled. And I don't know, I give a lot of credit to LeBron being like, that's not the reason we lost. And I don't think that's the reason the Lakers lost. But the reason that they have problems with it is the mental game overwhelms them for sure. And it takes them out of the game. It feels like not only do we have a disadvantage because we're playing on the road, it feels like we're playing against a conspiracy. It ain't a conspiracy, but that's certainly what it felt like for Austin Reeves last night. That's what it felt like for J.J. redick last night. And that's what it feels like for every team that plays against the Thunder. So is everybody lying or what?
Tassie (Tass)
Well, in a game where the Lakers had five fewer free throws in the Thunder, I don't think it was that there were calls missed for the Lakers, but at the same time, the rough just didn't do an incredible job. I think the flops in general when they are called are a problem. And I think that will be something that's looked at in the off season. The Thunder play very good positional basketball. They get in the way and they hit the ground and it's called quite often. Is it their fault that that gets called no, they're just doing what they're supposed to be doing. And so I think that's a point of emphasis for the referees. It is annoying to watch. No doubt. So I think that hopefully they don't call those as much like I brought. I mentioned the Alex caruso one where LeBron is literally running up the floor and Caruso gets in his way, sort of by the free throw line. And that's not positional basketball. It's just. It's just getting in the way, you know? But you hit the floor, if you fall, you get the call a lot of the times, and that's not fun. So I don't think anyone's lying. I just think they're. They push it. They push the rules as far as they can. The rules need to be readjusted.
Trey Kirby
Coming into the series, even JJ was like, drawing fouls is a skill. Being able to sell the call is a skill. And there's literally nobody better at it right now than Shay Gilders Alexander. Every team just wants it to be fair. They want to get the same calls that the spur that the Thunder gets, and they don't always.
Tassie (Tass)
Last night. Yeah, I thought the refs. She could have been way more mad.
Trey Kirby
The rest were brutal.
Tassie (Tass)
The rest were brutal.
Trey Kirby
The rest were brutal. We. We saw too much, John.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, there's a lot of video reviews. Yeah. And. And they were. Maybe part of it was that they had three guys on headsets. At one point talking to Sakakis and even Ian Eagle, I thought, did a great job. As two guys took off the headsets. He said, whoa, some progress here. We've only got one headsetter. That was really funny because, yeah, I think flops are just called too much. Again, I think she could have been way more mad. But when he went to the bench with that fourth foul, he's called for a flagrant.
Trey Kirby
That was weird.
Tassie (Tass)
That was weird. He was called for a flagrant. That dude was so calm. He was joking with Jalen Williams. They're joking together. You could literally say something. Read his mouth. Where Jalen was like, I know. And they're, like, joking. Two minutes into the third quarter, guy has to go to the bench for the second time early in the game. Cause he's called for a bunch of fouls. I thought he could have got more offensive fouls called his way. The standard calls that do happen or him going to the. The floor, that happened. But all in all, yeah, five free throw discrepancy in this game.
Trey Kirby
It's not all about free throws, though. That's that's what the thing. The Lakers are saying we should have more free throws. We should be taking more free throws. And they watch. They will in game three, guaranteed. All this complaining plus Lakers home game, they will take more free throws.
Tassie (Tass)
Well, that's why they're doing it for sure. Yeah. I will say though, I mean if it's not about free throw, getting more free throws, then it's just five free throws difference. I don't, I don't see, I don't see it as a huge difference in this game when guys are called for flagrants. Either way, the flops have to stop. I think that's the biggest one. But teach their own. Let us know in the stream team if you want to talk about referees some more. If you want to talk about Goble and Taylor and.
J.D.
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Who is the third man?
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, I don't know his name.
Trey Kirby
Mark Lindsay.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, Mark Lindsay. How could I? Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Yep.
Tassie (Tass)
All right. Anything else on this game?
Trey Kirby
I don't think so. I mean the, the referee thing that bugged me the most was when they had that jump ball with a. I think it was chat and Jackson Hayes and this was a big part of the huddle afterwards. Basically Chad is like telling whoever ended up throwing the jump ball, maybe it was John Gobley saying, don't let Jackson Hayes hold my arms. I was like, all right, Jackson Hayes, don't hold his arm. And then it was like, I want to stand here. No, I wanted to stand there first. But wait, I wanted to stand over here.
Tassie (Tass)
Blah, blah, blah.
Trey Kirby
It took like three minutes to jump the ball up.
Tassie (Tass)
That was weird.
Trey Kirby
That sucked.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. LeBron. That's the one where LeBron came running in from for him to negotiate. What's going on. Yeah, that was tough. The Lakers can still win one. They can still win one.
Trey Kirby
They can.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, they won't.
Trey Kirby
But they can.
Tassie (Tass)
They won't.
Trey Kirby
This get. This series is over.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I mean no offense to the Lakers.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Hopefully Austin Reeves takes what he had in game two there and keeps it going in game three because he got better as the game went on and he has overcoming his injuries and so there's an effort level and hopefully we'll see that and less referee talk from us. All right. After the break we'll get to some playoff hot takes. We gotta drop some in. But first a word from our sponsors.

Tassie (Tass)
I don't know about that.
Trey Kirby
Only one and a half points, but
Tassie (Tass)
still, yes, with a questionable Joel Embiid perma.
Trey Kirby
Questionable.
Tassie (Tass)
I would say Joel Embiid perma questionable. You just don't think they're going home to take care of biz. Was it a three and a half point line?
Trey Kirby
One and a half.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I mean, it's basically a pickup, but still, I mean, the Knicks have been better for sure.
Tassie (Tass)
They have been.
Trey Kirby
Definitely been the best team in the Eastern Conference.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. And we will get to some Knicks in these hot, hot playo takes. But we decided to throw a few in there. That's right, Trey, you get us started. What's a hot playoff take for the 2026 playoff take?
Trey Kirby
A hot take for you, Tass. LeBron James is underrated. Who v LeBron James. We talked about him as an X factor coming in this series. First time ever this guy's been mentioned as an X factor. We all picked against him in the first round of the playoffs. Now look, we thought Kevin Durant was going to play, but still we picked Kevin Durant over LeBron James. That's a crazy move that we did. He got one vote for anything in the anonymous player poll the Athletic did, and it was for being the most overrated player. He's been a top 10 player in this playoffs, currently 14th in points per game, third in assists per game, his percentages aren't that great. He hasn't been shooting the three ball very well this postseason yet, but still, he's like 24 points. But you per game, six rebounds, almost eight assists. Playing with underman teams that keep winning, they haven't won against the Thunder. It's the Thunder, but they took care of business against the Rockets. He had that incredible Game six where he was just masterful in ending the comeback bid for the Rockets, advancing the Lakers. And it's just crazy to see this guy in 2026 doing the same things he was doing in 2008, where it's like your team isn't good, but you got LeBron, so you got a chance. It's still the case that in 2026, if you got LeBron, you got a chance.
Tassie (Tass)
Yes, that's.
Trey Kirby
That's impressive. He has become underrated because you Compare him to 2012 LeBron.
Tassie (Tass)
Right.
Trey Kirby
You know, his absolute peak when he was maybe the best player to ever be on the court for a basketball game. He's not that anymore. But there aren't a lot of guys you would take ahead of LeBron in a playoffs only draft. You're telling me I got to win 16 games over the course of three months? LeBron's probably still going like, top eight.
Tassie (Tass)
You know, he is underrated. I think this is very accurate. We kind of just skipped over him in as a first round playoff pick for the Lakers for whatever reason. Yeah, I think it's clear now that he's not retiring this off season. I mean, he can do what he wants, but it sure feels like he can play longer.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
If he wants. And be freaking good. He's just. Yeah, he's just really good. He's not hanging on by any means. He's throwing down dunks. He is physically very strong at recovering as well. So it's not like he has a good game, bad game. He's just so steady every night. So unless for whatever reason he wants to stop playing, I don't see why he would.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it seems very unlikely that he would be done after this season. And it's also weird because, like, he looks so good as a third option. When Luka and Reeves were both healthy, and then he had to snap back into number one mode, and now it's like, it seemed like the end of LeBron in LA at the very least, but now the Lakers, like, should they bring LeBron back?
Tassie (Tass)
Maybe. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
So they figure out a way to pay him and be able to keep Reeves under contract as well, because the three of them looked really, really good. And you Want to have LeBron on your team come playoff time rather than have to go up against him. So I don't think it's a done deal that he leaves the Lakers anymore though. You know, for the majority of the season it definitely felt like he was on his way out and that their time together was going to be coming to a close. I don't think that's a guarantee anymore.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, the reason why you don't bring him back is to get better as a team overall, to have more depth because they did lose in the first round last year. Year and the year before that. And there's a reason for that because we're talking about them not being able to play guys against okc. But it's all about if he wants to take a discount like we've heard about other teams in Cleveland. So there's that because they have money going to Luca, obviously. But besides that, the contracts are fairly low with this team as currently constructed, so. So yeah, if he wants to stick around, I, I definitely would bring him back. Yeah, they got a lot, they got
Trey Kirby
a lot of stuff to do this summer. They're gonna have to figure out what to do with Reeves. He's got a player option. He's not going to take that because he's going to get paid from somebody or from the Lakers. The Lakers should probably bring him back. But like Ruiz, a free agent. Canard, Maxi Kleba's still on the books. I don't know what's going to happen with Ayton. He signed basically a one year prove that you can do anything sort of deal with a player option. He's been decent. He was pretty good I thought in the first round. But other than that like the books can be decently clean. But you're right, it would end up being a top heavy team which has kind of been the Lakers undoing the past couple of seasons.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, yeah. And I. The, the front office is a question and the ownership change and whether Rob Blanca has the freedom to do what he wants. Maybe he does. But besides Luca being paid 51 next year, it's a drop off. As you said, that Austin Reese player option is the next highest paid contract currently, you know, under on the books for next year at just about 15 million. Ruiz off the books, Canard is off the books. There's just not a lot of money tied up next season. All right, moving on. The Knicks are great because of CJ McCollum. When CJ McCollum hit that game winner in game three of the first round for the Atlanta Hawks against the New York Knicks.
Trey Kirby
Knicks.
Tassie (Tass)
The Knicks changed the way they play basketball and they're playing way better. Game four. That is when Carl Anthony Town started to be that guy at the top of the key, the top of the three point arc, just firing passes, firing passes. And that's when OG Anunoby was able to cut baseline and be so good. He's been good the whole series, but other guys, Miguel Bridges started to pick it up. Josh Hart always good. And Jalen Brunson was able to be good off the passes and just not have to do as much bringing up the ball up the floor. And part of why they're better, I think not only is Carl Nate Towns a giant man and able to have the vision to see over top of everybody and throw it to guys who are willing to cut, but it gets him involved earlier. And I think that is a great sign for the Knicks in general to help him offensively, to help him defensively, but just to have Carl Anthony Townsend as part of every single possession and Jalen Brunson not having to, you know, mentally start every possession. Now, they don't say, Carl Anthony Towns, you're the passer every possession, because that's not what a good team does. But a good team also doesn't say, hey, Jalen Brunson, you're starting every possession and you're bringing it up every possession. That's why Tom Thibodeau leaves. It's a team sport still. That's what I've heard. But simply put, I think it makes him better. And as good as OG has been on his own, I think Carlton Downs firing at him, that's really helped. Six assists in that first game. Four after McCollum hit that game winner that went directly to OG Anunoby. Carlton downside, 10 assists, but six directly to him. So it's helped everything. It's really unlocked our team. It's happened to other teams in the history of the National Basketball association where something happens in the playoffs and you click. Like the injury that the Miami Heatles had and Chris Bosh went to the center spot. Sure, it's a different team. You can keep going. Hey, David Lee got injured, Draymond Green comes in. I mean, other stuff happened there, you know, Mark Jackson. But this is something that clicked and it's weird that it wasn't really a part of their offense the entire season.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it's pretty funny that like we're like, oh, Mike Brown, this guy's an offensive genius. He decided to get the two best players. We have one of the team's best players pass to the other teams, the other best players. I was like, whoa, brilliant strategy, Mike Brown. But it was Everybody's been asking for the Knicks to have more variety in their offense, to have more cohesion from Towns and from Brunson and those two playing so well together. Brunson being able to play off Towns has just empowered everybody else. OG Anunoby is playing with an advantage basketball, it feels like the entire time because Brunson will set him a back screen or OG will set a screen for Brunson. They chase after Brunson, then suddenly, oh gee's open for a backdoor cut. It's been really, really impressive what the Knicks have done. This is why they needed to be tested a little bit in round one. I agree with what Ziggy's saying here in the stream team. The Knicks basically have won every playoff game they've played so far. They just happened to blow two of them to the Hawks and those two clutch games they lost by a single point. You know, they were up in both of them or at least on the comeback trail as well. They've been good defensively as well. Like no complaints about Town's defense at all so far. Josh Harden is barely scoring, but he's doing everything else. Bridges is thriving in transition and that's just kind of keying him going forward. I'm a little concern. I kiss though. The hamstring strain for OG Anunoby is interesting. They're saying he's day to day. He had a hamstring strain in the playoffs once upon a time. I believe it was 2024. I think he missed. I don't know if he missed three games or four games. He missed four games or something like that.
Tassie (Tass)
Yes.
Trey Kirby
Luca had his hamstring strain and we just heard him say the doctors told him eight weeks weeks when it happened. Jalen Williams has been out for multiple weeks at this point, so it's impossible to know when OG comes back. And he has been incredible for this Knicks team on both ends of the court. You know the defense is going to be there, but the way he's been rebounding in the playoffs and then the way he's shooting the three is crazy. And just scoring very, very efficiently. He's a matchup nightmare. And if they don't have him, maybe that's why the Sixers are favor one and a half tonight. I don't think it should swing the line that much, but OG has been really, really good and they're going to need him back as healthy as possible for the next round. Cause if you're for, if you're forecasting the Pistons to be there, Pistons vs Knicks, OG is the number one guy I would want on Cade Cunningham. So I wonder if they kind of take their time with him returning during this series since we don't know Embiid status as well. They seem to be in control. I wonder if they just, just take their time with OG get him 100% healthy because they'll need him for conference finals and finals for sure.
Tassie (Tass)
Totally. That's what they should do. And by all the reports and all the talks, it's not a major injury. But you're right in that we don't know when it's gonna be okay for him to come back. It could be a week, but they will slow play it. I totally agree and they should and they are in a good position being up to, to do that and other guys to be able to chip in. And you have a revitalized Carl Anthony Towns to lead them along with Jalen Brunson. And because of that and what they did with Carlton Towns, Mikhail Bridges became a player. Mikhail Bridges was not a good player to start that playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks. Several games took him several games and both Jalen Brunson playing awesome and OG and Obi playing awesome. And then this Carl Anthony Towns replacement on the as far as the scheme goes helped elevate Mikel Bridges as well. So I, I think they, they feel comfortable slow playing OG because Miguel Bridges has played better and their depth feels like it is deeper. And currently Towns I, I just go flashback to early in that playoff series against Atlanta Hawks. There's some stretches like Carlton Downs coming out for his first six minutes before this new iteration of them where it looked like he wasn't even playing, like he wasn't doing a lot. It wasn't. I don't even know if he was playing. And then he went to the bench and I wondered what, what did I even see Crawling Towns play. But this is different in that again, just more involved. The numbers aren't spectacular for Carlton Towns like scoring wise but it doesn't matter. We're just getting more out of him. And this is the version of Brunson and Carlton Towns that everybody thought Mike Brown would do six months ago. But here it is now and they're
Trey Kirby
like they're playing defense. I think they got the second best comp, second best defense in the Eastern Conference through the Playoffs so far, only behind Detroit, who, you know, did have the benefit of playing against the Magic in round one. Not a lot of scoring to be done there. No discredit to the Pistons. They have been great. But the Knicks playing defense and their offense clicking, they look scary.
Tassie (Tass)
No doubt. Okay, what's another hot take you got from these playoffs?
Trey Kirby
I've got too much Draymond Green in my life right now. Every time I open any timeline, I'm seeing Draymond versus Austin Rivers. I'm seeing Draymond versus Chuck, and I do not care at all what this guy has to say, really, but I'm seeing it a lot. I'm seeing a lot of Austin Rivers versus Draymond. I did think it was funny that Draymond said he has the biggest bailout before the government. That was a hilarious line. There have been some funny lines going back and forth, at least in that beef. The Draymond versus Austin River. I thought his performance on Inside the NBA was a little lacking, though. People were very upset that he went against that. He went like Charles Barkley for not being his best self when he played with the Houston Rockets at the end of his career. But, yeah, Draymond, to me, he is more of a podcaster than a broadcaster, if that makes sense. The way he was interacting with the other guys on inside, I thought was not playful enough. You got to have a sense of joy on that set, and he has a sense of, I want to beat you in the debate.
Tassie (Tass)
I went back and watched the Barkley thing. I think it's all how they interpret it and they feel about it, which determines how we feel about it. Let's say the producers put up Charles Barkley in a Rockets uniform where he looks slightly bigger. You know, we'd all hear Ernie or Kenny say, you were a little overweight. You know, there's a laugh. And then we're all like, oh, that's kind of okay. Like, he didn't go at him and say, you stink. Charles Barkley basically said, what is your goal here for the next year? What are you trying to do? And then Draymond thought about it. You know, he said, well, basically, I don't want to be you in our Houston Rockets uniform. Crickets. No response. If there was a little giggle, you know, maybe we'd look at it.
Trey Kirby
He goes, what's that look like?
Tassie (Tass)
What's that look like?
Trey Kirby
What does that look like?
Tassie (Tass)
What does that look like? Life. Yeah, there wasn't a lot of. A lot of love there. But like us, the ESPN crew It's weird to call them the ESPN crew, but the ESPN TNT crew. They're working hard now. They don't want to make these. They don't want to get ripped. You know what I mean? Like, they're working every day. They just. They just want. I know. That's what I'm saying. We used to laugh. We still joke.
Trey Kirby
We still joke.
Tassie (Tass)
We still say we had a bad game, bad day playing basketball. You know, we're not NBA players. We're not. But it kind of reminded me, Draymond.
Trey Kirby
The way Draymond was on his most recent appearance reminded me sort of of like when Shaq first started going on inside, and it was like, okay, man, just take a joke. Have some fun. And Shaq grew into his role. He's become like the jester, you know? And he does have just a sense of playfulness on the outside. I don't know if that's Draymond's personality,
Tassie (Tass)
but they didn't make a joke about Draymond. I mean, Draymond was the guy who made the joke.
Trey Kirby
I mean, eventually they did. They read the stat to him that he's like the Kendrick Perkins of the NBA.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, that's good. He didn't make. He didn't have fun with that.
Trey Kirby
He kind of laughed. He kind of laughed, but you could tell he was upset. He just seems to take it very personally. And I think that's Chuck's charm, is that we know he was a great player. He was a better player than Draymond was. Draymond maybe had a more successful career.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Different scenarios, for sure. But the thing with Chuck is that. That he can dish it out and he can take it. He does not mind being the butt of the joke at all. He's the butt a lot.
Tassie (Tass)
He didn't say anything. When Draymond Green basically said, you were a fat guy when you had a Houston Rockets jersey, he didn't laugh or he didn't. It was silence. So that was kind of odd. Not to defend Draymond Green, but, I mean, the question was, what are you going to do in this future of your career? And he tried to make a joke. When it comes to that, as far as the, hey, Austin Rivers versus Draymond Green thing, I mean, that's way worse. That's like two different podcasts. Record me talking trash about this other guy. That's like, you know, when. When Trey Young got into it with Patrick Beverly, like, okay, have a conversation. Go have a show. That would be good. But, yeah, okay, I hear what you're
Trey Kirby
saying I did see Austin Rivers said draymond Play me one on one. Would you watch Draymond versus Austin Rivers?
Tassie (Tass)
100%.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. So would I. It would be weird. I'm probably taking Austin. I think I am too, in a one. I mean, that definitely suits Austin Rivers more than it does Draymond.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, the guy can shoot, you know.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. I think he can dribble and do moves. I haven't seen a lot of that from Draymond. Not since the Michigan State days.
Tassie (Tass)
Okay, so that's a fun one.
Trey Kirby
I'm just good. I'm just good on Draymond for right now.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, I hear you.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. And he's. He's in my face right now.
Tassie (Tass)
He's your algorithm. Yeah, I get it, I get it. Last playoff hot take here. 2026 Bismack Bambo is 2019 Jordan Lloyd. Okay, this isn't. This is an apples to apples here, but let me explain. In 2019, Toronto Raptors went to the NBA finals against Golden State Warriors. In the finals, the warriors lost. Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson was out. The Raptors decided we're going box and one. We're just basically having one guy, front guard, Steph Curry. We gotta take him out of the game. And in their practices they had a little known NBA player named Jordan Lloyd take on the role of Steph Curry and run around and that's who we're going to guard. And he did that. This year. It's different. But Bismack Biombo in the spurs practices is basically going one on one with Victor Wembanyama. He is the guy who's trying to get Victor Wembanyama to play against smaller, shorter guards who go or players, strong guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stout dudes who get physical. That's what Bismak bio is doing in practice. They're just banging to learn to help Victor Wambanyama just chill out, calm down, take a hit and be comfortable in a game to adapt. Now it's not apples to apples because it's Wemby on offense while Jordan Lloyd was trying to help the defense figure out how to run against Steph. But basically what I'm saying is the guy in Jordan Lloyd that helped the Raptors understand how to play is similar to Bismack Biombo here in this case, who doesn't play a lot. He's just out there to bang with Victor Ivanyama to get him the most comfortable to get this, this man with the mental iq, the emotional IQ to understand what I got to do out there. So that's the comparison. That's where I'm going with it.
Trey Kirby
Sure.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. And he's looking good.
Trey Kirby
Reserve guy who is being. Is still important to the team because of what he's bringing on the practice court, which in Bismack's case is just smashing into Wimpy.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, yeah.
Trey Kirby
All right, all right, let's line them up. Bismack, you're just gonna run into him as many times as you possibly can.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I'm like, all right, let's. Let's do it for 15 straight minutes.
Tassie (Tass)
That's good.
Trey Kirby
Okay. If these guys played a legitimate one on one game, Bismack Biambo versus Victor Wembanyama, what do you think the score would be? We're talking up to 11.
Tassie (Tass)
I don't think Bismack would score.
Trey Kirby
It's hard to imagine him scoring. He's going shaking big step back threes. You know, he's got to score over top when BBMA just runs through.
Tassie (Tass)
Now, Bismak bio had a far longer career than Jordan Lloyd. Lloyd. It's surprising to me. Jordan Lloyd, this guy who played in Raptors practice, played only 12 games. The guy can score. Yeah. If it's Jordan Lloyd versus Bismack Biyombo, I'm taking Jordan Lloyd. If it's Jordan. If it's Jordan Lloyd versus Victor Wembanyama, he's scoring more than Bismack Biombo, that's for sure. But I ain't taking him.
Trey Kirby
I'm with you. I'm with you. Okay. Austin Rivers versus 2019. Jordan Lloyd.
Tassie (Tass)
Who wins 1v1 Jordan Lloyd.
Trey Kirby
Wow, wow, wow. We got to set that one up. I mean, Lloyd's in his prime right now, but like Bismack, 15 years in the end. NBA.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, man.
Trey Kirby
That's amazing.
Tassie (Tass)
It is amazing.
Trey Kirby
That is really great.
Tassie (Tass)
Listen, it happens to every big man where they have to just get hit. Especially guys who play sort of towards the perimeter. A slimmer guy, you know, we've seen it with Dirk. Other guys, that's what Bismack Biombo is for. Victor Weminyama on the practice court. Yep. So there's a. There's a connection there. Again, looked good through one practice. From what we've seen. I'm sure it's happened before.
Trey Kirby
You look great.
Tassie (Tass)
You look great.
Trey Kirby
Bumping.
Tassie (Tass)
But he, but yeah, he looked good there. And I mean, Victor Romania looked good in game two against Julius Randall or anybody who's trying to just bop him. He was, he was able to absorb it and just deal it.
Trey Kirby
I do have one last hot take for you.
Tassie (Tass)
Okay.
Trey Kirby
It's going to sound Like, I'm biased, but I promise you, I'm not. Blake Griffin's fanduel commercial is a modern classic. I'm talking about the one where he's in the bar, Luis Guzman is the bartender behind, and they're talking about three pointers. And I just think it's so funny. Yeah, I think the writing is so good. I think Blake's performance is so good.
Tassie (Tass)
I love it.
Trey Kirby
I think the zings are hilarious. I like at the end when it, like, it really feels like Blake's feelings are hurt that Luis Guzman said anybody can make a three in the playoffs. If you've made 29, brother, there are a lot of commercials that have Blake Griffin in them right now. Now he's commercial break Blake.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Every commercial or every break you're getting at and T or Wayfair or Wing stop or this FanDuel one of the four that he's got going right now, the FanDuel one is legitimately great and very, very funny.
Tassie (Tass)
I don't think you're being biased at all. And not because I've actually seen this commercial, but because Blake Griffin's just good in commercials.
J.D.
He.
Trey Kirby
He is good. He's a good pitch man.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. I've only seen the Wayfair one. I'm able to watch the NBA in arena feed on NBA.com through League Pass, essentially. But even that has stopped in the second round. I don't know why on Apple it stopped on the actual computer or monitor. It's given me the opportunity, though, to see some more Blake Griffin. And yeah, he's a funny guy. The Wayfarer one's good too.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
So I don't think you're being biased at all, I gotta say.
Trey Kirby
Well, thank you. Presented by fandom.
Tassie (Tass)
Presented by this hot take.
Trey Kirby
Presented by fandom.
Tassie (Tass)
Blake is just solid, man.
Trey Kirby
29, brother. I think it's so funny. He seems like a guy that would jokingly brag about making 29 career playoff threes.
Tassie (Tass)
So how is Luis Guzman's performance? He.
Trey Kirby
He does good?
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, yeah.
Trey Kirby
He does his part as well. Don't you worry.

Harmony all right, before we get to rapid fire, it's time for a little Woah boy. The stat line of the night. It's brought to you by breathing Brent Ferrari Vroom vroom. Our old friend Brent Ferrari. Brent wrote in this Brent he wants to call it Doughboy of the Night because Nerd alert. I am member of the greatest Star Realms dodgeball team ever assembled. Donut Shop Reviven, affectionately known as the Donuts. Our Captain Carl, AKA Chasmo, is the donut man himself. Or is he? I recently learned that Chaz, based outside of Philly, had no idea what a Long John was. Apparently long johns aren't a thing in Pennsylvania. Okay, listen, listen. We're gonna get to know the Long John here.
Trey Kirby
Just. Just reread these sentences.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, I know.
Trey Kirby
Our Captain Carl, AKA Chasmo, is the donut man himself. Or is he? I recently learned that Chaz had no idea what a Long John was.
Tassie (Tass)
Chaz doesn't know what a Long John is.
J.D.
Is.
Tassie (Tass)
He's not the donut man?
Trey Kirby
Is he the donut man?
Tassie (Tass)
He even went so far as to deny the Long John its donut status. It was a betrayal that struck our hearts. I know my North Central Illinois boy Trey was getting those long johns at Casey's General Store. And I believe Tim Hortons carried them for the rest of you lads in plaid. Oh, Brent was. Was writing like he was. He was writing a fanduel commercial here since our Vancouver teammate knew what they were. Can you help me get the Long John the respect it deserves as a classic donut? Shout out to the rest of the donuts, John, Juan, Kevin, Phil and Adam. Okay,
Trey Kirby
that's a great paragraph.
Tassie (Tass)
What do you think about Long John is a Donut? Before we get to the actual stat line of the night, unfortunately, I gotta
Trey Kirby
say, Chasmo makes some good points.
Tassie (Tass)
He does. So I totally agree.
Trey Kirby
You know why no hole ain't no hole, but a filled donut doesn't have a hole either. But I do think of donuts as circular, not stickler. That being said, you know.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Referral is right. I have bought a Long John from Casey's General. He's singing my life with his words basically here. So I don't know where you come in on this. JD Is a Long John a donut. You got a yeasted dough.
Tassie (Tass)
And did you see them at Tim Hortons?
J.D.
Because I don't. I. I mean, I. I've. I've seen long donuts before.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Cuz it is a long donut.
J.D.
I've never heard them referred to as
Tassie (Tass)
a Long John before that. They were called that at Tim Hortons. I do believe for a while they discontinued them. And for the people out there who don't know what a Long John is, because I'm sure some people don't know. It's more of like an eclair sort of thing. Yes, yes, yeah, exactly. But the word donut is. Yeah, I understand where Chaz is going to one.
J.D.
Yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
Not a classic Not a classic.
J.D.
I like. I like a hole like you say, Trey.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Like I love a hole.
Tassie (Tass)
I love a hole. Yeah. And let. And to get into the nerd. The nerd side of things here as far as donuts go, some people say, you know, the chocolate dip is basically. Basically the equivalent because apparently sometimes the long johns is just chocolate on top of.
J.D.
Sure.
Tassie (Tass)
And there ain't no cream on the inside sometimes. So too much dough. Too much dough. Okay, that's enough. That's enough Donut.
Trey Kirby
This is the doughboy of the night, though.
Tassie (Tass)
It is the doughboy of the night for you, Brent Ferrari, and for all of the rest of the donuts, John, Juan, Gavin, Phil and Adam. But not you, Chaz.
Trey Kirby
Captain Carl, AKA Chasmo. He's the donut man himself. Or is he?
Tassie (Tass)
Stat of the night goes to Chaz Holmgren. Now, chad Holmgren had 22 points, nine boards, three assists, four steals, two blocks. It was hard to say because he did a lot. Three of those blocks, or, excuse me, three of those boards were offensive. Three threes to get into it even more. Two turnovers. Oh, it's a nice dessert as well. Turnover.
Trey Kirby
Turnover's not a donut.
Tassie (Tass)
It's not a donut.
Trey Kirby
Chad's been so good, man.
Tassie (Tass)
He has been.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. I think he's been Thunder best player this round so far.
Tassie (Tass)
This round. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I mean, credit to the Lakers for taking Shay out of the game a little bit. I mean, he's still scoring 20 a game, but that's quite the departure from what we saw from SGA during the regular season. And Chet has really stepped up from an offensive standpoint. We know he's going to bring it on the defensive end, stick six stocks there. But. But his shooting, his activity on the offensive glass, he's been incredible.
Tassie (Tass)
And this has been his best playoffs. You know, it's only six games in, but it's better than what he was able to accomplish for the entirety of the. The finals run. Like, he's doing way more shooting way more efficiently. That's so scary. Moving on to our substack founding members. Well, member, we had one new one. Thank you to Nick Gordon. Nick, here is your red carpet.
Trey Kirby
We love you, Nick.
Tassie (Tass)
It's a. It's a wonderful effect here or. Or graphic. You know, the intro here that you got, J.D. where Nick Gordon is walking down the red carpet. Not the actual Nick Gordon, but his name. So thank you, Nick, for jumping on substack and becoming a founding member of our page. Very much respect it. We very much and appreciated moving on to our rapid fire fun.
Trey Kirby
Hey, hey.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, baby.
J.D.
J.D.
Tassie (Tass)
you got the questions, we got the answers. And so do you, sucker.
J.D.
Yes, I have the questions. I have the fader on the music. And here we go. Timothy Chalamet posted a video of himself on Instagram draining a three in an empty Madison Square Garden. The Knicks replied to the post quote, check your DMs. We just sent you a 10 day.
Tassie (Tass)
Wow.
J.D.
Guys, what celebrity are you signing for your rec league team for a week?
Tassie (Tass)
Tassie the Rock. I had to think about this for a long time, but I am curious just to see if the Rock can play basketball because he's an athlete, obviously. You know, great in the ring, great on a football field. But can he play basketball? I mean, I didn't go and search the web to see if I've ever seen. Great question, but he's also, He's. Is he too big to play basketball? Is he too muscular to have flexibility?
J.D.
Have you ever seen his arms over his head?
Trey Kirby
That's a great question. Could he get the ball up right? Yeah, those big old delts.
Tassie (Tass)
I don't know. I mean, you've watched more movies of the Rock than I have. It's probably put some arms in on.
J.D.
On the screen. He's in incredible shape, but I've never seen him. I don't think I've ever seen him throw anything.
Tassie (Tass)
Huh. Yeah. In Great point in football when he went to college. He was a linebacker.
J.D.
Yeah, I think so.
Tassie (Tass)
I think so. So he wasn't throwing, I mean, wasn't part of the offense.
Trey Kirby
No. There are photos of him. Him touching a basketball. I can guarantee that Dwayne Johnson has held a basketball in his life, but
Tassie (Tass)
I've never seen him at an NBA game. I don't think.
Trey Kirby
I don't know if I have either.
Tassie (Tass)
He's had to have been promos a
Trey Kirby
lot of movies, but, you know, in general, like, at least for American sports, like wrestling and basketball, same time. So you're kind of choosing one or the other. Wrestlers don't always translate to basketball players.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, like you're saying in high school,
Trey Kirby
you're saying, I assume he wrestled in high school. I don't know.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, yeah, I gotta assume that. But that's the. The calendar in high school. They cross over.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Winter sports.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Okay. All right.
Trey Kirby
It'd be interesting to see. That's why, I mean, such a nice screen. Be good on the glass, that's for sure.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
He's got his skills.
Tassie (Tass)
He's got skills.
J.D.
Totally. Trent, I want Adam Sandler oh, yeah, yeah.
Trey Kirby
This is a guy that, you know, see playing at the park sometimes, even with Timothy Chalamet himself. That's a guy that I never thought would be in my life for 30 years. He was doing Red hooded sweatshirt on Saturday Night Live. Hilarious. I was laughing a lot. But then he, like, made some movies that I loved when I was young and then he made some movies that I hated while I was less young. And then he made some movies that I love when I was older.
Tassie (Tass)
Old.
J.D.
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
So he stuck around and he stayed on the court. Only guy that I've ever seen playing like a button down shirt. It sounds like it'd be fun.
J.D.
Wow, how ironic. He plays basketball in a button down, but he shows up to everything in basketball gear. Right? Like the Oscars and stuff.
Trey Kirby
You don't know what to expect from.
J.D.
That guy's a mogul for me. I don't play basketball as you know, but I do play pickleball. I have a pickleball league. So I, you know, Jamie Foxx plays pickleball, but I've seen him play. I think I could beat him, honestly. Sorry, Jamie.
Trey Kirby
Wow. Yeah, but that'd be cool. I beat Jamie Foxx at that point.
J.D.
I know, yeah. But I want him on my team. That's the thing. I'm looking, I'm scouting for somebody to like a ringer sort of thing. So I'm going Leonardo DiCaprio, who I have not seen play. But it. Rumor has it he's very good.
Tassie (Tass)
Nice. Damn. Are you taking Jamie Foxx one on one? Is that how you're going to beat him? No, no, no, partner. Okay. For sure. And how's the, how's the team doing? It's playoffs, right?
J.D.
Yeah, we'll get to that in my third answer.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, okay. Great. Cool. Nice pitch ahead. Nice te.
J.D.
Okay, yeah, next one. In the meantime, now, New York basketball tweeted a photo, I have it here, of Larry Johnson, John Starks, Patrick Ewing and Bernard King sitting courtside at a Knicks game. But behind them is some random dude in a backwards cap staring dead into the camera like he absolutely belongs. Aptain, Pearl nyk. Sorry. Retweeted it with the caption, if I'm bro with the backwards hat, that this is getting framed in my house. Guys, what four legends would you most want to photobomb for a frameworthy picture in your house?
Tassie (Tass)
Tassie, great question. I need something more Canadian in my house. Okay, so I'm gonna have the bare naked ladies in front of me now.
J.D.
Stephen Page in there.
Tassie (Tass)
Stephen Page in there. That was the first thing I was gonna say. Do you think that's important?
J.D.
Yes, I do.
Tassie (Tass)
Okay.
Trey Kirby
Gotta have him. Is he the lead singer? Is that right?
J.D.
He was, but he left. What?
Trey Kirby
He put on clothes.
J.D.
He put on clothes and walked out the door.
Tassie (Tass)
That guy's been gone for like 20 years.
J.D.
Probably maybe 10 years. Maybe 20. Actually.
Tassie (Tass)
Something, whatever. But very, very important. Ed Robertson, Tyler Stewart. Then Jim Cregan would be my fourth. Sorry to Kevin Hearn, but I had to cut somebody. There's only four people, but you can probably squeezing Kevin. I'm happy with that.
Trey Kirby
That's a good one. Yeah. For me it would be the cast of Oceans 11. Maybe they get together to one last heist or something. So Pit, Damon Clooney, me just walking in the background as well. Is he part of the crew? I don't know. I wasn't sure who to pick for a fourth. J.D. who's the most legendary of the rest of the Ocean's eleven crew. Like I would have chosen Bernie Mac, but other rip.
J.D.
Yeah. What about Cheadle?
Trey Kirby
Cheeto is high on the list.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Elliot Gold is a long time legend.
J.D.
Is he still alive? He must be alive.
Trey Kirby
Great question.
J.D.
I don't know.
Trey Kirby
But yeah. So I mostly want Pit Damon and Clooney, but yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Anybody else? I'll even take Scott Khan.
J.D.
Sure, man. I thought.
Tassie (Tass)
I thought about Clooney for a while here. I thought he could be on my wreck team for some reason. I don't know why he was part of.
Trey Kirby
He's a basketball player.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Pick up game or something, huh?
J.D.
We got a prequel coming up as well, I believe.
Trey Kirby
An Ocean's Prequels prequel.
J.D.
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Okay.
J.D.
Just what we needed, guys.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I was wondering what Danny Ocean was up to before all that.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah, me too.
Trey Kirby
I guess we'll see. Who you photobombing?
J.D.
I'm photobombing Zoe Kravitz, Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway and Halle Berry. What do they all have in common, you may ask? Ask anyone. Anyone.
Trey Kirby
Say them again.
J.D.
Zoe Kravitz, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ann Hathaway and Halle Berry.
Trey Kirby
They are all Catwoman.
J.D.
They are all Catwoman. Very good, Trey.
Tassie (Tass)
Nice.
J.D.
Yeah. And then just me in the background, like the backwards hat guy. That's such a great photo.
Trey Kirby
That is so funny. That's really, really good.
J.D.
100. I would frame that too. Okay, last one, guys. We had a pigeon at MSG this week. These are all MSG related figure and it fell to Andre Dummond Drummond to dislodge the ball from the top of the stanchion. He failed spectacularly. The booze rained down and Carl Anthony Towns eventually had to step up and handle the operation. Guys, when's the time you had to bail someone out? Task?
Tassie (Tass)
Yes. Well, I was in Cleveland actually. We went to a, a Raptors Cavs basketball game a long, long time ago.
J.D.
Regular season.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Yep. Yeah, with some friends and we all got separated and at some point we couldn't find one of our friends because he was taken away to the drunk tank. So, so the night just went, went and. Yeah,
J.D.
quicker than a friend getting thrown
Tassie (Tass)
into the guy missing in Cleveland in another country at the time being Canadian at the time. So that was different. But he got up, you bailed him out. Yeah, the other guys really did. I said, nah, screw that, I'm not going to bail him out. No, I didn't say that. But the other, I, I was there. They weren't close friends, so they, they were, they were more actual friends with this guy I was sure you were part of. I was just there. Yeah, I was just there. I was, I was Ken Jiang and hangover. You know, like I was there naked in a trunk. Right, right. But he got out and then we all, everybody else was. Then we all went and got depressed in our hotel room waiting for him to get out. It was so sad that.
J.D.
Yeah. Are you still friends with this guy?
Tassie (Tass)
I was never really friends with him, so I was friends with the one guy that led the, led the whole trip. And no, I'm not friends with him. He's Skeets would like this story. I'm not going to say anybody's names, but we would say it off the air and he would say, oh yeah, that guy sucks. He didn't like him. Yeah. Anyways, we'll stop there. Okay.
Trey Kirby
But yeah, it's important to have one friend of your friends that you actually hate.
Tassie (Tass)
Very important. Not that guy.
J.D.
Trey. When was the last time you had to bail someone out?
Trey Kirby
Not someone, but something. Back when we still had Wilbur. He would sometimes attack animals, small critters in our backyard. And one time he tried to attack, attack a baby squirrel. Maybe did a little damage. So the squirrel was struggling and Laura made me sit out in a chair to protect the baby squirrel because she was worried that like, Wilbur would come back and try and finish the job or something. Yeah, So I, I, I sat and babysat this squirrel for probably half an hour.
Tassie (Tass)
Uh huh. Wow.
J.D.
Where was the squirrel? Just in your yard.
Trey Kirby
It was just like limping around in the backyard. You know, so I was just keeping an eye on to make sure Wil. Wilber. Stay out.
Tassie (Tass)
Get out, get out.
Trey Kirby
And then, you know, like, I left. And surely that squirrel is totally fine.
Tassie (Tass)
There was no other predators out there, right?
J.D.
Oh, no.
Trey Kirby
Nothing bad could happen to this squirrel that's injured without me watching. I'm sure. I'm sure it existed. Continue to live after that. But I was trying to do my part because we don't have enough squirrels around here. Yeah, we're really lacking.
J.D.
That's right. It's just a matter of time before this. This studio just shuts down on the air because the squirrel has gnawed through.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, yeah.
J.D.
The power.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, yeah. A lot of squirrels around here. Yeah.
J.D.
And when that happens, I'm gonna just assume it's that squirrel, that same one
Trey Kirby
still traced trying to find me.
J.D.
Yeah. So the last time I had to bail someone out was this Monday, guys. We were talking about how I was very scared that they were going to play me in our pickleball playoffs. And I play. They did play me with Rachel.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
J.D.
Who is by far. She's S tier on the team. I'm like, C tier on the team, but we usually play pretty well together. But she was not having a great night, so I had to bail her out. And we won.
Tassie (Tass)
We won.
J.D.
We won two out of three. I was like, standing on my head like a goalie, you know, just blocking those shots back and forth. And now we're in the semis and thankfully they are not playing me. But she would even admit. She would. I asked her before we came on, like, is it okay if I tell them how you basically shit the bed on Monday?
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
J.D.
And she's like, yeah, it's fine. It's fine. Because basically they iced her out. Right. Like, they. I think they did some scouting and they knew right away that she was by far the better player. So they just target me. And then, you know, when that happens, she A, gets kind of mad about it, and B, she's sort of.
Trey Kirby
Her.
J.D.
She's not locked in. So then when the ball does come to her, she. She struggles, you know, so. But I bailed her out and we're in the semis, and that's huge.
Trey Kirby
That's like a clutch playoff performance game planning against Rachel.
J.D.
People were like, I have never seen you play like that. Like.
Tassie (Tass)
Like what?
Trey Kirby
You're like, diving all over the place.
J.D.
Totally.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
J.D.
I was just hit. Hitting everything, like mo. The. The shots that normally just go right into the net or fly off out of the court. I was Just hitting it was just all. Everything came into sync.
Tassie (Tass)
Wow. So good. So and so why not. Why are you not playing the semi final?
J.D.
Because I'm not that. I'm still not that good.
Tassie (Tass)
There's the one time. Yeah, it's a one time performance.
J.D.
She's in and she's. She has her normal partner with. With the team and he is much, much better. So that's fine. I'm going to be there.
Trey Kirby
Sounds like you did your part.
J.D.
I did my part.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, Definitely.
J.D.
We're in the semis. One step away from city finals. Everybody's very excited.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I mean, like, how big of a tournament is it?
J.D.
I mean, it's city final. City wide.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
Wow. Yeah. Semi final.
Trey Kirby
Good luck.
Tassie (Tass)
Well, we'll save. Save this for the. The Pickle Ball podcast that you. You get back at. But I do want to know. No, this part do is somebody picked out a lot of the time in doubles because. Oh, yeah, yeah.
J.D.
You always go after the weaker player.
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah. Yeah. And then what does the other. The strong player do?
J.D.
They basically just have to either sit there and wait for it to come to them or they get aggressive and then they cover. They cover the other side and then that's where you exploit that weakness on the. On their back end.
Tassie (Tass)
Okay.
J.D.
It's all very involved, but okay.
Trey Kirby
A lot of strategy.
J.D.
It sounds like there is definitely strategy.
Tassie (Tass)
Well, thank you for all those answers because we went to air and you were still wondering, oh, I don't have an answer for a particular questions. And then boom, three big ones. Three big answers.
J.D.
Yeah, yeah, I forgot that I had to answer that because Skeets wasn't right yet.
Trey Kirby
And you're just reading not in the three.
Tassie (Tass)
Man 2 Good pickle ballers. The Catwoman photo.
J.D.
Yeah. It started with Hathaway and I'm like, what else? What could I do with Hathaway? And then I built around her who's.
Tassie (Tass)
Who's also MSG related. She goes to msg. Yes, she does. Yeah, that's right.
J.D.
I had a scene with Carl Anthony Town in the latest Double Wears Prada.
Tassie (Tass)
Oh, yeah? How was it?
J.D.
It's fine. It's good. I mean, I gave a thumbs down, but the movie.
Tassie (Tass)
The movie, yeah, it was good, but
J.D.
I gave it a thumbs up. I don't know if you like that, then. I love the first.
Trey Kirby
First one.
J.D.
The first one is great.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tassie (Tass)
All right. Anyway. Okay, well, that's it for no dunks today. There was some chitter chatter about us streaming the NBA draft lottery on Sunday afternoon. We'll see if that happens, you know, it is indeed Mother's Day the afternoon. Yeah. On a Mother's Day, the afternoon. I thought it was. It was a night event. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
It's like at 3 o' clock or something, right?
Tassie (Tass)
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
Biggest Bulls game of the year, though. Kind of feel like I gotta tune in. I'm sure that's what Laura actually wants to do. What do you want to do for Mother's Day? Watch the draft lottery.
Tassie (Tass)
Right, Totally. Yeah. So if Flora's up for it. No, if, if, if we decide to do it, join our YouTube no Dunks page will be streaming for that half hour of glory for some teams. I couldn't believe Vince Carter is going to be the Brooklyn Nets representative.
Trey Kirby
I just find that that was surprising to me too. Yeah, he's the Nets. I saw the Bulls have Kukoc Cuc. Hopefully he has good luck.
Tassie (Tass)
Any predictions for tonight? Even though you think that the Knicks should be favored?
Trey Kirby
I do think the Knicks should be favored. Hopefully. It's a nice tight game, though. But I'm super interested in Minnesota. San Antonio, first game in Minnesota.
Tassie (Tass)
Yes, absolutely.
Trey Kirby
Feels like it's going to be a banger.
Tassie (Tass)
Yes, it'll be a loud one, too. All right, maybe we'll see you Sunday, but we'll definitely be back Monday. But for now, Clipper Bros. You heard it here first.
Trey Kirby
Have a great time. Turn up. Love you guys. Awesome.
Tassie (Tass)
Thanks for joining us. And in the words of Anthony Edwards, mom, a hard head makes a soft ass.
Trey Kirby
Embrace the day, people. That's the ending line.

Trey Kirby
Maybe they won't like the crunch.
