Good morning sweet world and welcome to the no Dunks podcast presented by FanDuel. It's Tuesday, January 6, 2026 and despite all my rage, I'm still just a skeet in a box. Alongside me, as always, it's Tas Melas.
Trey Kirby
Oh, the remix is from a fox.
Skeets
Next to him is my top shot hot boy Trey Kirby. And over yonder making this magic happen, super Producer JD Hello. There he is. Here we are. Appreciate everyone joining us live on YouTube. Hit the like button. Subscribe. As you can see, I'm paying off my December pick em loss by having to podcast today as a sentient, forgotten Christmas gift. I guess I don't know what this payoff is, but it's hot as hell in here. I am sweating buckets, and we've been on the air for like, a minute and a half, but.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Skeets
How is it out there?
Tas Melas
We're chilling out here. I like that you made the decision to get in the box. I don't know, three or four minutes before we actually started.
Skeets
Well, I had to do a little mic test with JD and then. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Get acclimated.
Odoo Ad Voice
Yeah.
Skeets
I would love for a quick show today, but I know that won't be happening.
Trey Kirby
No, sir.
Tas Melas
We got trade proposals for all 30 teams coming up.
Skeets
When I'm. When I'm talking, are you looking at the box at least?
Trey Kirby
Absolutely.
Skeets
Okay, good.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. This. This is better than me being under the table and looking kind of just over the sign at the front where you could see that this is better.
Skeets
I do have a flashlight in here, J.D. if you want to go. Yeah. To the shot where there is a tiny hole for me to breathe. If I put the light here, you might be able to. Oh, yeah.
Trey Kirby
See me.
Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
So. Wow. I didn't know the flashlight was coming.
Ad Voice
Nice.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Skeets
Yeah. I have to see what the hell I'm saying. I do have some notes because we actually have a ton to talk about as I pay off December's pick' em loss podcast listeners. Come on. Check this one out. It looks ridiculous. We'll get to some of last night's games because we had some entertaining ones, but, man, the Trae Young era in Atlanta could be coming to an end soon. Mark Stein reported on Monday evening that the Wizards have emerged as a legitimate trade destination for Trey. And then ESPN's Shams Sharanya soon added that Trey Young and the Hawks were working together to find a trade. So here we go, boys. A deal seems imminent. Will it happen with me in the box? Well, we have to do an emergency podcast with Trae Young traded, but yeah. TK I want to start with you because this is sort of something you talked about not too long ago, this idea of maybe the Wizards being in play for Treya.
Tas Melas
Yeah, I just guess more people should be listening to our podcast because I pitched like you're saying, this exact framework. I'm specifically looking at the hole in.
Trey Kirby
The box as if I could lock.
Tas Melas
Eyes with you to talk about that. So thank you for agreeing with my point by just twiddling the fingers. But it does make a little bit of sense, right? The Hawks have not been great since Trey Young came back. He is in year eight here in Atlanta. They never came to an extension. So it was gonna kind of be who moves first. The Hawks saying you're outta here, Put em in a box and ship him out. Or Trey saying, I don't wanna be the scapegoat for all this. Let me outta here. Apparently it's going to Trey Young making the first move way. And you can see why this makes a little bit of sense for both teams. The way I pitched it and the way Mark Stein has reported it is that CJ McCollum's expiring contract would be the main piece in this trade. Just because Trey's got a big deal. CJ's expiring, he's got a big deal as well. You kind of need that to make the money work. And the Hawks would need a ball handler if Trey Young were traded. CJ can do similar things to Trey Young. Score from outside, organize the offense, make plays. Though he's not the passer obviously that Trey Young is. And then if you're the Wizards, Trey is the kind of player that they need. Mostly I'm saying a franchise superstar, but also somebody who creates shots for their young players like Alex Sar. They could be a nice pick and roll tandem alongside each other. Maybe the guys that the Wizards have drafted in the past three seasons are like two, three, four options. And Trey Young is at the very least a number one option. He's not the number one, number one option in the NBA, but he can lead your team to a play in berth. And that would be awesome for the Wizards to get back into some sort of relevance. This is kind of a buy low for them to turn CJ McCollum, a trade they did during the off season, into a player right away and Trey Young, that's a nice little bit of business for them. So I could see it making sense from both parts, from the wizard side of things and from the Hawks side of things, but. Kind of a bummer, huh? That the Trae Young era will be over. Not that we're going to be writing songs about the Trae Young era here in Atlanta, though I suppose Migos probably did write songs about Trey Ice trade the game back in the day.
Trey Kirby
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Yeah, it was interesting how it all came together because you get the Mark Stein report that the Wizards emerge as a legitimate trade destination for Trey Young. And then an hour later it feels like the Hawks and the Trae Young team of agents decided, okay, we gotta put this out there. He's going and just to get it out there with Shams essentially saying that the team is working on with the franchise on a trade and Young and Reps and the Hawks have started collaborative talks over the last weekend on finding a resolution. But it is interesting that Mark Stein's reporting changed. He actually changed what he was written down because at first it was, it was believed the Hawks will have to send whiz some draft capital. He'll have to, they'll have to send a pick along with Trey Young if the Wizards are going to take him, then that kind of changed. He said they might have to draft draft pick or the Wizards make a clear play for Trey Young. Do they want Trey Young essentially, is what this comes down to because, you know, we like to keep things straight here. Are they trading him? I went and checked our man Brad Roland in his podcast. He is down there with the Hawks every single day and he said on his podcast that he, he does every day. Those Wizards rumors were definitely real even before Stein came out with this. And so they, it does feel like they're going to trade him. But it could be something, as I think you're alluding to their skeets from your box, that this might not happen in the next month. This may be an off season thing where there's a better package available. Because as you said, Trey and as we said on our January 2nd show where we talked about some trades for Trae Young, it ain't all that sexy. I think what's clear and all the reporting from Stein, from Brad Roland, the package that's coming back for Trae Young ain't going to be good. It could be, yeah. C.J. mcCollum and Chris Middleton, actually there's a possibility you could, you could pair C.J. mcCollum and Chris Middleton for Trey and Luke Kennard. Two expiring contracts. Essentially. Essentially, that's what it is for the Atlanta Hawks. I don't think they really need a ball handler all that much on their end anymore. They're going to give it to Nikhil Alexander Walker. They're going to do it by committee like they have with Dyson Daniels, with Keaton Wallace, and that's fine. I think this is really just moving on from Trae Young scenario. But this could be a scenario where I don't know if he doesn't. Is he asked to Maybe not play for the rest of the season. It's a strange scenario in that he's leaving, but let's say they don't get a package that they want, maybe they wait. I mean, it does feel inevitable that he's leaving in this next month. It sure feels that way right now. And I know the Wizards might want him to sort of guide like Trey Johnson, their, Their. Their backup, their, Their shooting guard, essentially, into how to be a point guard, because they don't really have a playmaker to run a team, that's for sure. So it could be a 1.5, like a year and a half trial period with Trey Young as, like, what's. He's. What he signed for. Like, they get him, but do they want to sign an extension after that? I don't know, unless it's super cheap. So it's, It's a real odd scenario, I think. I, I don't know if any team wants him. I, I brought up the Brooklyn Nets as an option on Friday because they need a ball handler. And if it's a package coming back that the Atlanta Hawks actually want, it could be centered around Nick Claxton. And it's Nick Claxton and one of, you know, a Zaire Williams or Heywood Highsmith, one of those two guys, or Nick Claxton and a young guard that they have. They have a Nolan Traore, maybe another Frenchman to play with, Rhys Sachet or Drake Powell. So I think it all comes down to the better package. But otherwise, you start looking around the league skis. Do you think there's another team out there that actually wants Trey Young because it's not a lock that he's going to the Washington Wizards at this point?
Skeets
Well, yeah, I think there's importance to Stein being the first one to say the Wizards have emerged as a potential trade destination. And that gets out there. And Mark Stein is more times right than he is wrong. Let's just be honest. This guy just doesn't chuck things out there for the sake of chucking things out there. He's usually on point. So that comes out. And that leads us to believe. Yeah, is it just CJ McCollum, maybe Corey Kispert or like Malachi Branham and maybe some draft capital, though, like you guys said, there was like some concern, like, no, the pick is going with Trae Young back to Washington, which to me, I'm sorry, that's batshit crazy.
Trey Kirby
No, that's a.
Skeets
That is.
Tas Melas
The pick is going to the Hawks. There's no way it would have been.
Skeets
But people are trying to say that the Capitol would be going back to Washington for taking Trey Young.
Trey Kirby
That Mark Stein's first report that they would have to send a pick to get somebody else to take Trey Young because there ain't good packages coming back for Trey Young. Right. And so you have to entice another team. I mean, look at all the teams that need a lead guard out there. The rumors are the Mavs maybe just because of who they are. And the Anthony Davis link there, there is the Wolves just because they need another point guard. But it doesn't feel like that's. That's right. It might be a Chris Paulson type of scenario. I think Trey Young is too much. The Raptors, there is that rumor. I don't think they make that, that trade whatsoever. They've got an Emanuel quickly signed to a long term deal. Doesn't make sense. I think the Wiz Nets sort of make more sense, but there just aren't good teams that are really trying to outbid any teams that are trying to outbid one another.
Skeets
Yeah, and that's. And to finish my thought there, like the point of like the order of Stein saying it first and then Shams coming with every agent not known to mankind with Trae Young saying, oh yeah, we've been talking with the Hawks, we're open to moving him. There's a reason that came soon after the Stein thing because it was like, hey, anybody else? Does anybody else want Trae Young? Because it's obviously not going to take a whole lot. We're not looking for a ton. We expect not a huge return, but maybe a little bit better than, yeah, just an expiring contract and maybe like one pick. Like I think that's what's going on here. But you're right, like who are those teams? That's the tough part. You got to assume the Hawks are asking for Koulibaly or you know, Will Riley like, or AJ Johnson like some other young talent. But the Wizards are probably like, nah, we know you really want to get out of the Trey Young business. Here's maybe one pick and a couple second rounders and then some expiring deals. And I think that's what it's going to be because I keep going back to that Pascal Siakam trade of two years ago when the Raps traded him to the Pacers. It wasn't sexy, man. It was brutal. Bruce Brown, Jordan Noir, Kira Lewis Jr. And then three first round picks. But they only used one of them in the end on Jacoby Walter. So that was the 19th pick in the 24 draft. The other pick did help them get Brandon Ingram. So there's that. But it's not going to be good. And Trey Young. Trae Young is. He's going to be done here in Atlanta. It is weird, right? As a, as a franchise guy.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. I will say, you know, I'm just making up the Nets one as a, as a team that is just in need of another player because they, even though they've drafted a bunch of guards, this guy would help them, you know, elevate who they are as a team. So I just threw that in there. But the Wizards as, as Trey said on Jan. Second, when we're make December 30th. My bad. Yeah, my bad. December 30th going way back. I'm getting my, my picks conflated this a year ago. Yeah. Yeah. Because I'm going to brag.
Tas Melas
That's when they should have traded Trey.
Skeets
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
A year ago. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Because when you wait this late, your package goes down and down. Trey Young player style has kind of fallen out of vogue in the NBA. Small guards didn't get paid at all this season. He does need to get another contract after next season. Assuming wherever he goes he will get pick up his player option. That's what I think is the important part about the team. And his agents are working collaboratively. That means he's trying to find the next deal to set up whichever team he goes to. Just like Siakam did. And just like Siakam, the Raptors waited too long to trade him. The return wasn't great. Three middling picks and a bunch of guys who are out of the league right now. That's what the Hawks are going to get. But the benefit for them is that it clears the way for their young guys. It clears up their cap. They don't have to have this crazy second apron with next season. It makes it easier to move off of Porzingis in the off season as well. It's a resetting the decks sort of move for the Hawks. And the team that trades for Trae Young is honestly trying to get to where the Hawks are right now. It's not an impressive thing, but there are teams out there who would love to be a play in regular at this point.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Skeets
I guess the one reporting we did get from Sam Amick yesterday at the Athletic is that the Kings are out of the Trey Young business.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Skeets
And that they're not interested in making a deal for him. Whether you believe it.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
I think that makes Total sense. We finally got somebody to say, hey, the Kings aren't going to trade for this guy. Sam Adamick has dialed in with the Sacramento Kings, so that would totally and entirely makes sense. It does feel like a team that's. That's whittling just at the bottom. I'm gonna say it feels like a team that's whittling at the bottom should want Trae Young. The Sacramento Kings are that. But at the same time, it's a team that, like, literally can get better with their young players and needs just a star to number one, help them out a little bit. Because the Kings just feel like that would be the same thing that they've done in the last two years. Just these lateral moves that aren't. That's not really going to help them whatsoever. I know it sucks for Trey. Maybe he started playing basketball. If he was born 20 years earlier, he'd be before his time. Like, he would be in his perfect time. Like a small guard leading a team. Like, that's just. That's a better time than it is right here in 20, 25, maybe 10 years earlier. Yeah, well, earlier for sure. Yeah. I mean.
Tas Melas
I mean, there weren't a great. A lot of great small guards in the 90s, you know?
Trey Kirby
You know? Yeah, well, they're been really like.
Tas Melas
Except for, like 10 years ago when it was the Curry Show. He was supposed to be the next Steph Curry, and he turned out to be a Damen Lillard, you know, pretty good, but. But not quite the next level that was there.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's. He's too small in today's day for what they're playing. But Travis Schlank, the guy who drafted him here in Atlanta, is part of the Washington Wizards front office. So it could make sense that he wants to bring him back. But it is that. It is.
Skeets
Travis Schlenk actually want Trey Young? I'm not sure he did. And he was the one that was also pushing to move him. Get off him earlier.
Trey Kirby
Well, I don't know. Why did he draft Luca and trade, Literally trade for Trey Young immediately had.
Skeets
Some say on that, but. Yes.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. So it is odd, but it is interesting that Trey has a play player option for next season, and so he's not a rental. He's gonna pick that up. It's. It's 45 mil, right?
Skeets
49.
Trey Kirby
Was it 49, yeah. I could be conflating.
Tas Melas
Yep.
Trey Kirby
45.9 maybe, is what I thought. So. 49. Yeah. He's going to take that. And then the next team has to decide how much are we signing an extension with Trae Young for. I mean, he has to take something.
Tas Melas
Yeah. Under that, the next team that signs him will have the deal lined up for him.
Skeets
Yes.
Tas Melas
The team that trades for him. Because you're not. You're not giving up stuff for a guy who could leave in the summer.
Trey Kirby
So you think the Washington Wizards are looking at him and being like, hey, yeah, three for 75, man.
Tas Melas
Yes.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, come on back.
Skeets
If the Wizards make.
Tas Melas
I mean, if they could get him for three for 75, that would be a great deal.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
The problem will be if they give him like three for 180. I. I don't think he's a $60 million player. I don't really think he's a $50 million player either, but that's what he's going to be looking for. And this is a team that has a ton of cap space, that hasn't made a play, a playoff series since 2021. They haven't won one since like 2017 or something like that. The Wizards don't want to be a scrappy team that everybody's like, oh, I can understand how their players could be good with a star alongside them. They want to see a star alongside him. They want to like, fight for the 10th seed. I think would be good for the Wizards.
Skeets
And you guys said it off the top. I mean, there's no doubt he would improve. One of the worst offenses in the league like Trey Young can do that. He can. He can raise your offense. And I'd love to see what he could do for Alex Sar and how like the pick and roll would work and Keyshawn George and just like being such a, you know, I know he struggled this year when he's played with his three point shot, but he obviously can extend the floor and open things up. And maybe with the Zards, it's like, well, Tray Young sucks at individual defense and Washington's like, who cares? We're the worst at it anyway. So it's like we can't get much worse. I guess we're 29th in the league defensively. Okay, maybe we dropped the 30th, but yeah, it feels like there's something here again. If it's Stein reporting it and then Sean's coming out, we'll just see if another team can sort of outdo a pretty crappy looking Wizards offer. But if it's expiring deal and a pick, it gets it done.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I think the Atlanta Hawks want to be better than they were 17 and 21 team. It is funny to they are better without Trey Young. Well, they're literally 17, 21 and their offense stinks no matter what. I mean, you know, aside from Trey Young's minutes, like Trae Young has only played in 15% of their minutes this season and the other 85% of their minutes when he doesn't play, they're like the 25th best offense in the league. I know it's awesome to look and watch Jalen Johnson and do what he does, but the team ain't all that good no matter what. Period. So they. I think they do want to get better. I just think that the Atlanta Hawks and Auntie Saleh, they're trying to get a good pack, as good a package as possible here back. I don't think they just want to get off Trey entirely.
Tas Melas
I think that's part of it, though. I think a lot of what you've seen on C do since taking over is get out from underneath this top heavy team. That was like a dejounte. Murray and Trey Young led team. This team was supposed to be better this year. Porzingis hasn't been able to stay healthy. Surprise, surprise. He's been a key to their team when he plays. They look a lot better, but still 2 and 8 with Trae Young. They're not going to get better with this trade. There's just no way because it feels like they have no leverage right now. Trey wants to leave. They are ready for him to be gone is what it certainly feels like. So the packages just aren't going to be all that sexy. So they're. It's not. There's not a player they're going to be able to trade for and be better this season. I think the goal is to like reorient themselves around Jalen Johnson as the main guy going forward and figure out a way to build a successful team around him.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, that's definitely what the Hawks are doing. That's what they've done for yes. Since Anse Saleh said. All right, here we go. What a sneaky draft pick they got for this coming draft in the New Orleans Pelicans. Most likely in their draft pick, which could be freaking really good. But I still think that they're trying, as you said, Skeets, working with their agents to hope that somebody else will bid something better. Yeah, and I wonder if they're just trying to beat everybody going for either John Morant as well as Lamelo Ball and just hope that they can get the best package available and I bring Up Nick Claxton because I think you said, Trey, they're better with Kristaps Porzingis. They need a center who plays basketball and unfortunately due to Kristaps medical condition, he ain't playing. So they just need somebody and I think Nick Claxton is something that they can. Someone they can try and take a flyer on as they've. They've sort of collaborated with a bunch of guys who are really good together and Jalen Johnson being their sort of their centerpiece to that team. So I want to see what these trade offers are coming back. It would be great to be in there in the front office, but I don't know, I don't know how good it's going to be really.
Skeets
And I'm getting ahead of myself here because he still is an Atlanta Hawk, but. And he's been the Hawks like franchise since he was drafted in 2018. But do you think Trae Young is a guy that will have his jersey retired by the Atlanta Hawks here? Four time all star postseason, three times in his eight years so far. Incredible career averages. Like you see his career averages, they sort of are mind boggling. Like he's averaged basically 25 and 10 for his career. Is that something you think will see his jersey hanging in the rafters here at the Fortress or. Nah.
Tas Melas
Trying to find their retired numbers currently. I know we got Bob Pettit, we got Dikembe, we got Lou Hudson, if I'm remembering correctly. Yeah, Dominique, like you said.
Trey Kirby
Maravich.
Tas Melas
Maravich, yeah, nice.
Trey Kirby
Pettit, Wilkins, Lou Hudson, Maravich and Mutombo. I was also looking at that like, what's the standard here in Atlanta for not a title. Not a title.
Tas Melas
So probably, actually, I think. Probably I think it'll go Joe Johnson first, then Trae Young.
Trey Kirby
Okay, well, Trae Young sees his banner raised to the rafters and he bows like he did in Madison Square Garden when he was kicking the Knicks ass. That's for sure. I mean that's, that's the moment I think of when I think of Trey Young is him being the Knicks. That's. That was it, man. That was peak. Trey Young, 20, 21. Things were good. And then unfortunately, yeah, that was it. That was it. And he's tried to try and revitalize the whole organization, the whole roster, but it just hasn't happened for him.
Skeets
All right, well, let's hear from people out there. Do you think the Wizards Hawks deal makes sense? Where's the draft capital going? Is there another team that could come over top with a better deal and a better fit maybe for Trey Young. Let's hear everybody in the Stream team.
Tas Melas
Right now they're saying 52% are up on the trade to the Wizards. Trey Young to the Wizards.
Skeets
Pretty close to a 5050 people are saying.
Tas Melas
Too bad it wasn't exactly 50. 50 that would be ideal for the Hawks.
Skeets
I like it. One vote over or one vote less than 50. 50 also works when it comes to Trey Young and the Hawks. I was going to say my legs are starting to go numb here. I haven't sat crisscross applesauce this long in a while. Yeah.
Tas Melas
Hips a little tight. Yeah. Yeah baby.
Skeets
Yeah. And chili for dinner was a bad idea.
Tas Melas
Oh, maybe need another hole cut in there.
Skeets
I'll probably rip one in a second.

Get to some other news from the NBA and I got a lot of Rockets news for you guys. The Houston Rockets will be without Alperin Shengun for potential potentially two weeks as he deals with a right ankle sprain from the opening minutes of a loss to the Mavs on Saturday. That's when he tweaked it and he had to leave. Quote we'll reevaluate him at the end of the week. This is Rockets coach Udoka said of the injury before last night's game. Need to get the swelling out, the pain tolerance down and mobility, but you're looking at probably 10 to 14 days type of thing. So tass no sen goon for decent chunk of time here. We'll get to the game they played last night without him but sort of sucks.
Trey Kirby
It does suck. He is the player that they rely on the most. I would say when it comes down to crunch time, despite Kevin Durant's game winner that we'll get to in a sec. All that to be said. You know, it's 10 to 14 days, the schedule, it's good for them. It's pretty good. Two Blazers games, the Kings and the Bulls over the next week or so. Okay, that's pretty Good. Yeah. Doesn't get much better than that.
Tas Melas
Pretty. Pretty nice.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Yeah.
Trey Kirby
So they're gonna miss them, but at the same time, not a bad time.
Tas Melas
Not a bad time. And the Rockets are a super deep team, especially like at the big guy position. You saw Shangun go down against Dallas. Clint Capella enters the rotation. Played really well against the Mavericks. Not so much last night. Didn't really do anything. Tar Eason is going to get more minutes as well. He was good against Dallas. He was good last night. Fight against Phoenix. And Dorian Finney Smith is back. He looks kind of thick to me, but another option out there. I couldn't believe that was Dorian Finney Smith. He's. You can tell he's been sitting for a while. Yeah, I thought.
Trey Kirby
But it's not Dorian Finney Smith anymore.
Tas Melas
No, he is not.
Trey Kirby
He's big.
Tas Melas
Yeah. Dorian Thickey Smith. But he is another guy that can play for them. So I do think that the Rockets have enough.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
People to replace them because it's not always just the backup. Like. Like Capella's good. Eason is good. These guys are fine. It's the backup to the backup. They even have that in Houston. That being said, they're losing their best playmaker in Shen, a hub of their offense. He leads them in usage rate just barely. He's crushing it in usage rate in the clutch, like you're saying. But the Rockets are already second in frequency for isolation plays. So it's just going to be more and more isolation plays.
Trey Kirby
That's what they are.
Tas Melas
That's what they are.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. It will be interesting here with a month left if they're really going out to get a point guard to help them out because they do miss Fred Van Vliet. And you know, according to Mark Stein, another report here, that word is Van Vliet is working as hard as possible in his rehab to at least put a late season return on the table. I like those words, put a late season return on the table because I do think we talked about it. Was it January 2nd, Skeets? I don't know. It was recently where we talked about what the Rockets need. Yeah, it was January 2nd because you made the prediction that the Rockets are going to make the finals even with a Van Vliet that comes back, I assume, like part of a Fred Van Vliet. We don't know how good he's going to be, but it would be nice to have him out there for sure. And last year again, as I said on January 2, when he was out last Year for a month. He didn't look great coming back. And now this year it's different. This is the longest time he's been out in his career, whether it's four months or five months. So I don't know how great he is going to look. And I think they do need him because of a team like OKC doubling team doubling their guys on the perimeter.
Skeets
Yeah. Well, let's talk about the game because Kevin Durant hit a three pointer in the final seconds to give the Rockets a win over the Suns. Entertaining game down the stretch. Sort of a low scoring game for today's game. But Durant hit that shot and he loved it. After he said it meant more against the Suns because it came against his former team that he said kicked them out and he felt like he was the scapegoat. He did say it's nothing but love for the players, but I want to beat that team. What'd you think, TK Of Katie's obviously huge shot? And then he was like, give him the thumbs out. Get out of here.
Tas Melas
Yeah, stick that thumb through that hole.
Skeets
I'm trying to. It's not a big hole. I could use some air right now.
Tas Melas
Yeah, don't. Don't block off your own air hole. But what a year for thumbs in the NBA. We got Kevin Durant throwing his thumb. We had Josh Hart thumbing Jalen Brunson earlier this year. The thumb, one of our 10 favorite fingers, isn't it out here? But yeah, this was awesome. This was a fun game to watch. Devin Booker had a chance to win this one for the Rockets. Missed a very similar shot to the one that beat the Thunder the previous Light the previous night. But he shooting airball, it was. It was way off his leaner to the left. The Durant game winner, though, I thought was maybe a little bit too easy. Like they inbounded him the ball. He just took one simple dribble to the right. Rise up and fire. I'm sure he doesn't even see Royce o' Neill in that situation and then.
Trey Kirby
Get out of here.
Tas Melas
But this guy's got so many teams that he's played for, he's mad at everybody. Like they gave him everything he wanted in Phoenix.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Tas Melas
So, I mean, like, I kind of felt that was a little bit weird.
Trey Kirby
It was a little bit weird.
Tas Melas
Like they traded so much to get him and then he's like, you know what else you need to do? Bring in Bradley Beal. And they said, okay, we'll do that. And then when he wanted to Trade. They said, all right, we'll trade you away to the team you want to go to. So what's he so mad about?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I have no idea, really. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I was surprised that the Phoenix Suns didn't double him harder, that's for sure. I mean, the previous possession, Kevin Durant gave it up, but before Booker's attempt at his to repeat his game winner from the night before. Devin Booker hit a game winner the night before, but Kevin Durant had the ball. They kind of soft double him. Like Booker was coming over and they got the ball out of his hands. And then Booker sort of did the same thing on the last possession, but he didn't come over at all, really. So he had the opportunity to shoot over Royce o'. Neill. Yeah. And it's unfortunate that Books was literally trying to replicate what he did the night before. You know, the step back shot took so much time and then shot an air ball. It was just weird.
Skeets
That was good defense, I thought, from Tari Eason, that one. He played it well. He knew that Booker was going to look like to sort of initiate contact, sort of throw that shoulder to get a little more space, but he didn't allow him, sort of stayed back far enough. You trusted his. His length and speed and then, you know, contested it. Booker still got a look, but yeah, it was weird for him to air ball that. Yeah, but yeah, that was. And the Durant one, it's like, you're right, it was. It felt easy. But he also pulled up from so fricking deep and it was like, holy crap. I think he was. He was not shooting the three ball well in that game either. Right. I mean, may have been like 2 for 12. Yeah, he was like 1 for 11 at that point. Yeah. So what are you going to do? The guy's seven foot tall, too. It's like, I guess you just try and prevent him from even making the catch to get the ball, but. But what a hell of a shot. And the crowd went nuts. And, you know, they had one more chance right at the end and Joshua Koji was the one that sort of broke it up. Though it did fall into Booker's hands and I don't know if that would have counted when he released it or if it was too late. But yeah, entertaining game and Rocket's got it done.
Tas Melas
Indeed.
Skeets
Any other notes?
Lectvo Ad Voice
No.
Tas Melas
I'll just say, you know, there's two teams I've been super wrong about this year. Number one, the Sacramento Kings. I locked their over me too. That was probably going to be an out. But the Suns also, man, not only are they better than expected, they're actually fun to watch.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I agree.
Tas Melas
I'll take an L on that one as well.
Trey Kirby
They're unbelievable.
Tas Melas
Yep.
Trey Kirby
Jordan is definitely getting coach of the year votes because he deserves it. This is a team literally on a back to back that took the Houston Rockets. You know, a team that, you can call them the second best team in the Western Conference if you're in that kind of mood or I don't know, maybe they're better than OKC now after OKC6.6 in their last 12. We'll get to that. But. But very impressive every single night with the Phoenix on so it doesn't die.
Skeets
Yeah. Final piece of Rockets news here. I guess we can call it Rockets News. The NBA is going back to China next season as expected, with the Mavericks and the Rockets playing a pair of preseason games in October at the gambling hub of Macau. Love saying Macau. So MAVS, ROCKETS Guys, 10-9-11th and like I said, they're returning. We had the Suns and Natural play a few games over there this last preseason. But any thoughts on sending the Mavs and the Rockets?
Trey Kirby
Well, I will say it's positive that the international relations have improved between the US And Canada. Or US and Canada. US And China. Let's hope those improve too. US And China being that going way back when Daryl Morey put out that tweet there supporting the anti government protesters in Hong Kong and China took the NBA off TV because they were so angry and now they're playing games there. So the international relations much improved and Patrick Dumas, governor of the Mavericks is happy.
Tas Melas
Yeah, apparently some of his casinos are over there.
Trey Kirby
Huh? Oh yeah, they operate in Macau.
Skeets
The Sands Corporation.
Trey Kirby
Yep, there we go.
Tas Melas
Yeah, I mean the, the Mori stuff was my first thought on this as well. To see the Rockets actually go play in China. They have a huge fan base over there since drafting Yao Ming, but they were basically blackballed after the Daryl Morey tweet circa 2019. But things are smoothed over now and they're playing games there.
Skeets
It is funny to see on NBA.com, the press release about this news and like I said, the gambling hub of Macau, gambling hub as we have still amidst some pretty controversial gambling, you know, scandals in the NBA that we're just like just sitting here twiddling our thumbs waiting to see what will be the resolution on. I just, I don't know, found that a little funny, but it is, you Know, Vegas is getting a team here soon too, so.
Tas Melas
Exactly.
Trey Kirby
Right?
Tas Melas
I guess.
Skeets
Who cares?
Trey Kirby
Has anyone ever gambled in Macau? I mean, it's, you know, mostly casino type stuff. I don't know if you can bet on games, but I would be interested to see.
Skeets
I would assume you can.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, Yeah. I don't know.
Tas Melas
Macau, Macau, Season games.
Skeets
Jd, did you ever watch Portlandia?
Odoo Ad Voice
Sure.
Skeets
Do you remember the sketch where I forget who they were? Obviously it was Fred Armisen and Carrie. But it was like their. Their safe word during sex was cacao. Do you remember that skit?
Odoo Ad Voice
Yes.
Skeets
I think of. I. When I say Macau, I think of Portlandia.
Trey Kirby
Very weird. I wonder, because I know Carrie watches the show. I wonder if she got that. That from us. Is that possible? The caca.
Ryan Seacrest
What?
Skeets
No, no, no.
Trey Kirby
She's converted to cacao.
Skeets
She's saying cacao.
Trey Kirby
I know, but she's also not saying Macau. No, that's true.
Skeets
But it sure sounds like that's right. Carrie from Portlandia, big no dunks fan. Which is awesome. Okay, let's take a break and when we come back, we will talk about a few of the other very entertaining games last night. Oh yeah, of course. I got the ad read today. Hold on, let me get my flashlight here. Every Friday from 6 to 7:30, it's NBA happy hour on FanDuel. Your pre game for the weekend. We're talking limited time specials you won't want to miss. Trey Kirby
A good. A good message here on stream team. Okay, Method man, he wanted a Takal. Oh, wow.
Skeets
I did not have that reference. I was like, what?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thanks. Still with. I like saying Tikal as well. Yes. So we've got a lot of variations. We got a Cacao. We got a Macau. We got a Takao. I'm missing one. Wasn't there another one? Or cacao, I guess.
Skeets
Sure.
Trey Kirby
Cool.
Tas Melas
Nice.
Trey Kirby
When I think cacao, I think cacao. Nips. I'm in on cacao. Nibs right now.
Tas Melas
Love them, man.
Trey Kirby
Man. Oh, God, yeah. Throw them on a cereal. I tried to cold brew a coffee with cacao in it. I didn't do too well, but either way, it's fun. I love cacao. Just love it.
Skeets
If you're joining us here on YouTube, hit the like button. Subscribe. Paying off December's pick and loss as a giant, sentient Christmas box. I did want to ask you guys though, before we move on to the games. Did you ever have a gift this big wrapped under the tree when you were growing up? Because these like, look at this thing. This is giant. And these were like. You know, I didn't. These were few and far between for me. I don't know if I ever had anything this big, but. Did you TK or Tess or gd Like a bike or something?
Tas Melas
Yeah. Things that I'm thinking that I definitely got as like a Christmas gift that would have been that big were like. Like a little tykes plastic basketball hoop. You know that thing. They're just a giant thing like that. And oh yeah, once upon a time I got a foosball table for Christmas.
Skeets
That's pretty big.
Tas Melas
That was a big old box.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Odoo Ad Voice
Yep.
Trey Kirby
But parents aren't wrapped in that thing. Right. Like a foosball table or even a. A Fisher Price basketball would be set up.
Tas Melas
Yeah, I mean, I don't remember having anything or a man in a box. I never received a man in a box. That's for every year and nobody comes for us.
Skeets
I got a G gt. Like, snow racer. Like a sled, like one of those. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't in a box. Yeah, I think a bow was just slapped on it and it was there. Thanks, Santa.
Tas Melas
Santa wrote it in the GT snow racer. That thing was sweet. Oh, my God, you're right.
Skeets
God, that thing was awesome.
Trey Kirby
Oh, man. I would use it right now.
Odoo Ad Voice
Totally.
Trey Kirby
Like the two days we get snow here in Atlanta.
Tas Melas
Yeah, you gotta be prepped, man. That's the scramble for a sled. When it actually goes here, you're like, let's try cardboard. It works once and then. And then. Guess What? It's wet. J.D.
Skeets
What about you? Any big ass items?
Trey Kirby
I think the biggest thing I ever got was, oh, my camera's on you. It was a GT snow racer as well, but mine was in the box. Oh, if you lay it on its side, it's probably about that size.
Skeets
Yeah, they're pretty big.
Trey Kirby
Yeah.
Skeets
I wish you wouldn't show that angle, J.D. well, sorry we ran out of Christmas Wrapping paper. I did joke, like, I don't know what the people are saying in the stream team, like, oh, this is a weird payoff guy in a box. But. But the worst part about this whole thing, I had to wrap this gift and I fucking hate wrapping gifts. Can't stand it. So this was the real punishment yesterday, me wrapping this thing.
Trey Kirby
Well, you took it upon yourself. I mean you just started. Jackson came in, he was like, I should have wrapped. I was like, yeah, you should have.
Skeets
I didn't know he was a lackey like that. For us.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, he's an intern.
Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
Yeah, put them to work. The people are saying it's the funniest payoff we've ever done.
Skeets
Well, that's not right. But thank you. Let them cook.
Tas Melas
And they're also saying there used to be a Brett Hole GT snow racer.
Trey Kirby
Oh really? I don't remember that.
Tas Melas
That is a. I googled it.
Skeets
It's real.
Trey Kirby
What?
Tas Melas
A Brett Hull and endorsed GT snow racer.
Trey Kirby
I can see a Brett hall autograph in my head. Was it, was it a signed GT race?
Tas Melas
It's like blue and gold, I guess, like St. Louis Blues colors. It looks like this guy, this guy slides around in the winter. You want to slide around in the winter, you can't skate.
Trey Kirby
Man, that thing looks.
Tas Melas
Yeah, we got to get one in here.
Skeets
The problem with those GT snow racers where inevitably that seat, that plastic hard ass seat was breaking. Oh yeah, because you're just taking it over ramps all the time and oh man, it would shatter and like sometimes the front blade would shatter too if you're hitting too much ice. Oh man, those were the days. All right, let's talk about some games last night. Already talked about the Rockets win, but how about that first game on the CAC? Cade Cunningham? Want me to stick my CAC out that little hole here?
Tas Melas
Yes.
Skeets
Cade Cunningham had 29 points, 13 assists as the Pistons smoked the Knicks Tass. This was a beat down here as the Pistons took care of business.
Trey Kirby
We got a close up of the hole just in case something pops up. That Knicks Pistons game. Woof. Not so good. The Pistons, wow. On a back to back. This literally was a three quarter game. The Knicks pulled their guys early in the fourth quarter. We're done here. Cause Cade was amazing in that third quarter. Especially this Pistons team. Unbelievable. The guys who played extremely well in this game. Asar Thompson, Ron Holland, Javante Green. What a season for that guy. Paul Reed, Isaiah Stewart, Jay Nivey, Dennis Jenkins, you know. No. Jalen Durr? No. Tobias, no. Carousel Vert. And it was Cade in that third quarter he literally decided wherever he wanted to get, we'll make it happen. And he was awesome. He literally beat the Knicks by himself. The Knicks scored 15 points, had five field goals and three free throws in the third quarter. That's exactly what Cade did. Fifteen points, five field goals, three free throws. And they just went at it. They had seven offensive rebounds in that quarter. Mitchell Robinson is out there for the New York Knicks. He was playing on that end. He had. They had more offensive rebounds than the Knicks had defensive rebounds. So man would. They weren't scoreless in that third quarter. The Knicks did for like half of it, like almost six minutes. So. What a smackdown. What a smackdown by the Pistons. You said yesterday that, that the Knicks miss Josh Hart. Skeets for sure they do. But I thought coming into the season Mitchell Robinson is going to have to play and put Carl Anthony Towns at that four spot to help him out. And that has happened and they did have him in this game. I thought they were just have a fight here. Like I thought there would be a scrap level between the Knicks taking on the one seated Pistons. But it didn't happen. It wasn't there. That was just a bad game to start the night on the. It was bad.
Tas Melas
Yeah, there was actually. I felt like wasn't a ton of juice in the arena for such a big game. Maybe it was because the Pistons, they were they on the second night of a back to back they were coming in with no dur. And so maybe we're thinking oh, this is going to be a disappointing game. And it kind of was. But only because the Pistons completely outclassed the Knicks. That was such a surprise to me. I had had this game circled on my calendar for a while. These two teams being at the top of the Eastern Conference. Somebody in the stream team was calling us out before the show saying you guys gotta turn it around. You keep saying the Knicks are the best team in the Eastern Conference, but the Pistons look like the best team last night. And similar to the 76ers game for the Knicks, it looked like the athleticism was a problem from the pistons. Detroit forced 20 turnovers last night. They scored 33 points off those turnovers. It was 21 to 12 in fast break points. Fourth quarter didn't even really matter in this one. But the Pistons made it a point to run. They made it a point to get into their offense as soon as they could. 25% of their shots came in the first nine seconds of the shot clock. Part of that is no, Josh Hart, like, he's a guy that really ups the tempo for the Knicks and can play at those speeds. But it just looked like they, the Pistons had a little bit more fight in them and definitely a lot more energy, which was surprising for it being the second night of a back to back for them. I thought B Ball Paul was awesome in this game. He really took it to Towns, Took him out of the game completely.
Skeets
Yeah. Are you concerned at all about this little malaise here for the Knicks as they're struggling? I mean, this is the worst they've looked all season long in terms of like just competing in games like you guys talked about. And obviously the L's here, I don't know if that's. Is it, Are they up to four straight losses or is it four and five? But whatever. Are you concerned or is this just like a classic? Like, you know, part of the schedule gets all good teams and they'll bounce back.
Trey Kirby
Four in a row.
Skeets
Is it four? Okay, okay.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Is it? I know the excuse coming out is, oh, post NBA Cup. Oh, they're all, you know, it's, it's what?
Skeets
Cursed?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, it is cursed. I mean, it's, it. There is a malaise post NBA Cup. They, it does mean something to the teams that do win. We saw it with the Milwaukee Bucks last season, with the Lakers to some degree the year before. But I do think, yeah, the energy of a Josh Hart I, is, is, is big. I would expect somebody like Carl to step up in this game. Carl Anthony Towns just wasn't much in this game. I, I, I would, I was going to put it on him. I was hoping that he would show that, but it really was just Jalen Brunson, you're the offense over and over again. I mean, OG had four shots. Carl Anthony Towns had four shots in this game. Like, they literally.
Odoo Ad Voice
Took themselves.
Tas Melas
They weren't involved. And I think that's OG has to have people get shots for him for the most part, so that maybe falls on teammates more so than I think than Towns does. Him taking four shots is unacceptable. It's similar to the beginning of the season when he was trying to find his spot in the new Mike Brown offense and was kind of getting left by the wayside. Sometimes he likes to play in the flow of things, but sometimes you got to be a jerk. Go get your own shots. Because four shot attempts is just not enough for Carl Anthony Towns. In his last three games, he took four. Last night he took 16 against the Sixers, but I think like six of them close came in the fourth quarter when he was trying to go out and beat and kind of get his own back, lead the Knicks to some sort of comeback. Didn't happen prior to that. 10 shots, nine shots. These are low totals for a guy who's your second low, second leading scorer. They need to find a way to get Towns really amped up here and get him back to like, you know, the 23, 25 point per game scorer that he can be. Because when he gets lost, you have to rely on him more as a defensive player. And that's just not good for anybody.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I thought it was weird with Mitchell Robinson starting beside him. You don't have to be the main guy guarding at the rim. Thought we'd get more Carl. That was, that was the disappointing thing to me.
Skeets
And Cade Cunningham for the Pistons. This guy is like very quickly becoming one of my favorite players to watch. He is just in such control of an offense. I loved when he's like bullying Mikhail Bridges inside. He bullied OG at one point. OG is a tank, but that just shows you how big and strong Kate is. And then like when Deuce McBride was on him, like, he was like, are you kidding me? Like, I'll just get to my spot. Easy jumper. And then he was racking up the assists. He got a whole bunch of assists at the end. Just handing it over to three point shooters. As the game sort of got out of control, the Knicks defense was panicking and leaving a lot of guys open in the corner. So Cade was just making the easy pass. But he's fun as hell to watch right now. You said it the other day there, TK like, like, you know, all NBA lock, maybe even first team dabbling with it. He's of course an all Star and he's going to be a perennial all Star. And then, yeah, maybe some MVP votes for, for him as well.
Tas Melas
Oh, he's definitely first team all NBA for me right now and would be on the MVP valid, I do believe, and I mean especially we'll see what ends up with games played and who's actually eligible for this kind of stuff. But he plays a ton. He's awesome in the clutch. Didn't matter last night. There was no clutch time because this game was over basically by the fourth, fourth quarter. So Cade's what, played 33 games? Detroit has played 36. He's looking good.
Skeets
Yep.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, and they're getting space atop the Eastern Conference standings now. So if he's part of a team that's the number one seed, then you gotta Gave him plenty of MVP votes because you know we thought this would be a good battle. One versus two. But now the Knicks have dropped a three in the Celtics after, after their win they're in the second seed three and a half games back of the Pistons. So there's some. There's a gap there.
Skeets
Well, the Knicks are struggling and so are the Thunder. Let's talk about the Hornets destroying okc. Last night handed the Thunder their worst loss of the season. Brandon Miller scored 28 season low point total for OKC. The only time they have not hit 100 points this year. TK start with you on this one. I mean this was one of the ones where like there's a lot of games last on last night had the multi view going and kept like looking at the score of this like what the hell's going on here? Okay, I guess. Ok, so we'll get back into it. Hot start for Charlotte. Charlotte and they just never did.
Tas Melas
Yeah, hot start for Charlotte. Hot entire night for Charlotte. 53% from the field, 51% from three, 19 of 37 from way downtown. And it felt like every time I was flipping back onto this one it was just a highlight for the Hornets. Every single time they were getting easy shots, they were knocking them down. Obviously Lamelo had that crazy shot from the baseline where the ball gets tipped out and he barely saves it, shoots a one legger swishes it from deep in the left corner. That was awesome to see. Hornets 9 and 6 with LaMelo Khan and Brandon Miller playing interesting. He ain't getting traded. On the flip side of things, it's definitely more interesting for the Thunder to see them struggling like this in their last 12 games. They are 6 and 6 as everybody has noted. And the most interesting thing to me I think is that their shooting has been really bad. 11 for 39 from three last night. That's 20. They're only at 33% in those 12 games. The free throw rate has also dropped off of a shelf. They're 24th and free throw rate they were 15th. That's even trickling down to Shea who has not getting to the line quite the same way he was earlier in the season. The Hornets out rebounded the Thunder on the offensive glass through the first three quarters. The Thunder were able to make it back in the fourth quarter with your Carlson etc. Playing but this is a team that is now missing Isaiah Hartenstein. He's a great offensive rebounder for them and also brings them more size so they're able to rebound better. His Loss is really showing for the Thunder, both on the glass, and he's a guy that's like a great connector. He catches the ball at the elbow, swings it over to the other side. We're into some more offense, so I think you're really feeling his absence right now. For the Thunder, throw in Jalen Williams. Playing good but not great since returning. He can't shoot the three right now. I wonder if that's going to continue to be a problem at least this season as he rehabs a shooting wrist injury. It makes sense that he would kind of be struggling from three, but yeah, a little bit of a malaise here for the Thunder. If you can lose to the Hornets at home, you can lose to anybody right now.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, watching this game, it really reminded me of the Phoenix Suns of last year who weren't playing defense at all. And this is the OKC Thunder that was allowing the Charlotte Hornets to get bucket after bucket after bucket. You know, there are definitely problems not having the size of Isaiah Harnstein missing threes, Shay being cold. But it's all rectified with this team when they play defense. And right now they ain't. That was. That was bad. They're on, you know, back to back, if you want to make excuses. But it was just shocking not to see the effort. So Shea has two, two bad games in those. In that Back to back. 25 points on 22 shots, the first one, then 21 points on 21 shots yesterday. And Jalen Williams is bad and they need a rebounder. That. That is for sure. And I think that's why your Houston Rockets pick is. Is decent in that respect, Skeets, because they're huge. And so if there's, if they see them in the playoffs, they can grab extra rebounds. But really this just wasn't an effort thing. This was effort thing for me. You know, there's. There's holes for sure, but the numbers that you threw out there at the beginning, Trey, I mean, that's. That, that. That is not okay. See, I mean, that's just. That's just defense. So, yeah, they've hit. They've hit a lull 24 and 1 to start the season now. 6 and 6 since. I don't know if that's just what we saw with the Celtics last year, kind of just like taking their foot off the gas after a championship. I guess that's what it feels like to me. Anyway.
Skeets
Anyway, this is why I took the Thunder under at the start of the season, which is. Was very low. I think it Was like, was it mid-60s, maybe even low six, 64 and.
Trey Kirby
A half or 60?
Skeets
It was low 62. And I remember obviously after they started 24 one going well that was stupid. But this is what I was actually somewhat expecting. Like it's not like far fetched for a defending champ to like reel back a little bit, slow down, get other guys reps and like maybe that comes with some long. But yeah, it is weird to see a Thunder team just get out class from a hustle and effort standpoint, 24 and 1 to start the year now 30 and 7. So say goodbye to 74 and 8, say goodbye to 70 plus wins. That is not happening. And now we'll just see whether they hit that over, over, under. Maybe they go on a huge skid here. Probably not. They probably still hit that over. But could it, could it be a blessing in disguise? Like get all of this like chasing any sort of like all time record, take it off the table. There's no concern, no worry about how they're. You should play these guys maybe, maybe just obviously play the long game here. But good win from the Hornets. And what'd you say the record was there with those three guys? Nine and six.
Tas Melas
Nine and six.
Skeets
Oh, the noticer has noticed.
Tas Melas
Hey man, they're good, they're good. They're, they're fun to watch too. When those three guys are playing, it's three guys who can dribble, pass and shoot.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. Yeah, it's nice to see Brandon Miller play basketball. It's nice to see them all play basketball. It just doesn't happen often enough together. But yes.
Skeets
Yeah, that's the thing. We've just talked about them now and it's like, oh God, here it comes. Brandon Miller injury or lamelo ball? Ankle injury. I feel like we've done this before. So yeah, hopefully that's not the case.
Trey Kirby
And that's in part why I was comfortable taking Con Caniple as my rookie of the year pick. Thinking, well, now the other guys are playing beside him, his open shots will be even more open and he's going to knock him down. He hit five threes yesterday. We'll see if he can keep it up. See if the guys can keep up being healthy. That's the huge question.

One of the other games on Peacock last night, Steve Kerr got ejected. Oh, he was fired up. Snoop Dogg was loving it. We'll talk about that. But then Curry fouled out late as Kawhi led the Clippers past the Warriors. So a matchup of the NBA's two oldest teams in the Clippers and the warriors. And we had some temper boys with Steve Kerr. TK but what'd you think of this one?
Tas Melas
I can't believe the warriors lost this game. They had seven turnovers. That's a tiny number for the Warriors. The Clippers turned the ball over 20 times. The warriors made 10 threes. The Clippers made 10 threes. I don't know how this happened because I think the warriors probably should have won this one, you know. No James Harden for la, but Kobe Sanders was able to step up. I wasn't really familiar with his game. His first 20 point game of his career. He was confident, he was aggressive all night long. Kawhi came out on a heater to the point where the warriors had to double team him and he did a great job of inviting the double team, stringing it out, getting off the ball and then pretty good ball movement from the Clippers, which is not something that always happens for that them. The warriors are a bottom 10 offense though so far this season. They can't really shoot outside of Steph Curry. He had an okay game last night before fouling out 9 of 23 from the field, 4 of 15. But it came down to Jimmy Butler getting the ball on the left block and trying to make a shot to win the game for the Warriors. And it didn't totally feel like Jimmy wanted that ball at all, which is kind of unusual. I guess this is regular season Jimmy compared to playoff Jimmy.
Trey Kirby
But.
Tas Melas
But the warriors are a team that has a very slim margin for error and if they're going to be shooting 38% from the field, 24 from three, they're probably going to lose.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, Jimmy, unfortunately it was an airball, right? I mean that was, that was a bad shot. Yeah, I was having. Having some flashbacks. Throwbacks to Jimmy vs. Kawhi. Like it's 2019 Raptors vs. The Sixers, because that was. That fight was fun. But yeah, the supporting cast, the warriors is where they're really dwindling. And I think that's why Steve Kerr is frigging mad and getting tossed and going on podcasts like Tom Tolbert's podcast and saying, we need to be better, we're just not good enough. I mean, he's basically, you know, he's pulling the move where, hey, front office, we've done what we can here to make this thing as dynastic as possible. The dynasty keeping it up, but we need somebody. And they needed effort in this game. And that's why Steve got tossed to me. You know, they're down double digits at that point. And there he was just reaching for anything.
Tas Melas
He was also, let's get the team fired up kind of ejection. And it actually worked. They went on a rally after that. And, you know, he was half right. I think the no continuation call on Curry, even the warriors broadcast degrees. That shouldn't have been a continuation, though. Like Curry and Kerr both. Or at least Curry said, 50, 50 call like that. It usually goes to the offense. It didn't, but I think that was the right call. No continuation. On the other side, I was the John Collins, no goaltender. The refs agreed that they missed that call. Yeah, that should have been a goaltend. So Steve got mad. Snoop was hilarious when it was, get him, Steve. Get him, Steve. The Arizona Wildcats coming out at him. That made me laugh. And then, you know, the warriors, to their credit, responded to Kerr getting ejected. And post game, they were all like, we love to see our co coach.
Trey Kirby
Sticking up for us like that. Did you like Snoop on the call, Skeets? I know we talked about that last week, getting ready for Snoop on the second half of a game. Just the second half.
Skeets
Yeah, I guess it was fine. You know, like, we definitely had Snoop interviewing Steph Curry before the game. And then there was like shots of Snoop in the production truck that made me laugh out loud. Reggie, I thought when Reggie was losing it over Snoop, saying the warriors defense was opening up a cookie shop was a little much. But I like that they were showing us Snoop All Star game, like celebrity game highlights and photos of Reggie and Snoop when they were in high school. Polytechnic high schools. Both guys.
Trey Kirby
Polytechnic. Wow.
Odoo Ad Voice
Yeah.
Skeets
But the funniest part was definitely Snoop going nuts when Steve Kerr was being held back and then eventually tossed. It was was. It was basically what I expected. So you know, thumbs up.
Tas Melas
There we go.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Snoopy was. He was high, that's for sure. I mean, just all the voices he was pulling out felt like. Like he. He did an R at one point. Like he pulled up the pirate. I don't know. He seemed high. But anyway, the memorable Snoop Dogg. What?
Gronk
What are you talking about?
Trey Kirby
I know, it's crazy. The memorable moment is definitely. He was great. Straight on the cur, getting tossed.
Tas Melas
Yeah, it was worth it for that. He said a lot.
Skeets
He did.
Tas Melas
I. I thought he was freestyling. For almost 24 straight minutes of game during the second half, he never stopped talking, which was quite the change from his pregame interview with Curry, where he could have just been any sideline reporter. Yeah, just asking him the most normal questions. I love that stuff's like, oh, you know, the schedule. He was shocked by that. But the intro was very funny. Snoop seidles up.
Skeets
What it do?
Tas Melas
What's happening? Slow motion, man. And then just into basketball. What's it like being on a road trip but coming home for eight straight games? That was good.
Trey Kirby
He's impressive.
Tas Melas
I liked his chain. I was just gonna put his chain on.
Skeets
Yeah, this guy, man, this guy loves NBC. Yeah. Like, I mean, I'm sure they're paying him a bag, but holy crap, does he rep for NBC. Good stuff, Snoop. All right, any other games you want to talk about? I mean, there was a crazy Nuggets, Sixers, overtime game. Denver without, like, six guys, still got the victory, but any other ones?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, I'll start with the Denver one. I feel like Denver can win it this season. And in part why I made that prediction on January 2nd was in this post Jokic era, all the role players are going to come together, play harder, and I think it helps them out later on in the season. Like, it's helped out so many championship teams like OKC being able to go 10, 11, 12 deep years, spurs of way back. Like, just that, I think helped in the four games since Jokic went out. You know, they're. They're 2 and 2, but to me, it's more important how they're playing. Like Peyton Watson balling out a guy who could be part of their rotation will be part of the rotation. 24, 21, 23 and 24 points in the four games. The drives, the step back, obviously the defense. Spencer Jones, screen assistant out there splashing some threes, and Bruce Brown hitting the game winner in this one. Like, those three guys are going to be part of the rotation. So you start step up you play more and it can help them down the road, just bringing this thing together. Like, I'm not going to mention Zeke Najee and Jalen Pickett's performances in this game because I'm not sure if they're going to be part of the rotation, but at the same time, they're part of the locker room. And I feel like these guys are coming together at the right time.
Skeets
Yeah.
Tas Melas
Hopefully Calvin Booth was watching because those are all guys he drafted that Mike Malone was basically like, these guys are not good enough to play. And they went out and beat a 76ers team who was on the second night of a back to back back. So understandable. But yeah, they dusted off Hunter Tyson. I hadn't seen that guy in ages.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tas Melas
Flying around out there, falling over all over the place.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. They didn't have their five starters, as you're saying, Skeets. They didn't have Tim Hardaway. They didn't have Jonas Valentunas. He can say seven players from the rotation and we're talking about goaltends that should have been called the other way. Joel Embiid got away with one in the fourth quarter, but it was cool to see Joel Embiid recover and make one. And then. And literally the Denver Nuggets only hit one field goal, only one ball went through the hoop in overtime. And another one was another goal tent the Bruce Brown one. But they still win. So to me, it doesn't matter if they won or lost in this game, but they have gone out and beat the Raptors in their first game. When Jokic went out, they went and played a great game against Cleveland that went down to the wire even though they lost. Then there was a dud. I started to worry about this team post Jokic against the Brooklyn Nets. But then they brought it back here. Four good games in total.
Tas Melas
Every win for them without Jokic is a massive win, I think.
Skeets
Yeah. Especially with the Western Conference standings. Yeah.
Trey Kirby
What about the Raptors?
Skeets
Give me some Raptor News.
Odoo Ad Voice
Yes.
Tas Melas
I mean, get your brooms out.
Skeets
Yeah. Swept the Atlanta Hawks. They've already played the entire season series against Atlanta and took care of business. All four of them. Yeah. I thought it was a quality win. I had this one on the sort of the main screen for most of the night. This was good. Absolute, honestly, really good contribution. I thought CMB played awesome. I really like this rook. I think he's going to have a very long career. Yeah. They just have the Hawks number.
Trey Kirby
I always worried when Jakob Perl was out who is their backup center going to be? They're undersized, but they're starting. Colin Murray boils an undersized center.
Skeets
It works against the Hawks. That's the thing.
Trey Kirby
That's. That's the perfect matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. This guy was great. 17 point points, seven boards, four, excuse me, seven assists, three steals and two blocks. And then at halftime, he was asked by Kayla Gray, you know, Kristaps adds a different level of physicality to this Hawks team. How do you deal with that? I think he thought about it. Should I say this? Yeah, I'm gonna say this. We're more physical. We have Scotty, myself, Sandro. We have physical. We are physical specimens that can guard that if we put a lot of effort into it. This team puts effort, man. They, they, they do. Darko, you could see it. He gets in Grady Dick's face after basically every timeout. Their. Their physical team, they live it like Brandon Ingram has played in every single game this season. Pretty wild, you know, 18 games last year. Now he's played in all 37. This team, this team is overperforming, but they got heart. Yeah. And so they're. They feel like a modern team with all these wings that we made fun of Messiah for. When the, you know, they do the, the Scotty Barnes and every 6, 8 player. But Colin Murray Boyles fits in. He fits in because he plays hard to that sort of that mold of a big wings. They got a ton of them.
Skeets
Any other games?
Tas Melas
TK Celtics beat the Bulls easily. No surprise. Denny Abdia, my all star, went for 33 points, eight rebounds, nine assists. Easy win for the Blazers over the Jazz. I did see that young Hanson checked in really late in this game. Maybe like the final two minutes. Crowd going crazy for him. He gets a lefty hook shot and they went insane that he scored a basket. Guy was a first round draft pick. Yeah, yeah, he is a scalabrini right now. But it was cool to see they were pumped he was wearing the carpet jerseys.
Trey Kirby
Nice to see a lefty hook for sure. Got to see one. Yeah. As far as the rookies go. Calmry Boyles off. Awesome con canipple. Awesome. Like part of this, this group. But Hugo Gonzalez, they call him Hugo Gonzalez on the Boston Celtics. That guy's good. I mean, he's 19 years old. He's got one motor and it's play hard defensively. Offensively, he's just focused on what he has to do. He close outs on, on the perimeter really, really, really well. Challenges shots and he can Shoot three. So that's. This is a guy that's going to be around the NBA for a long time and that's why the Boston Celtics are scared. They. When Tatum comes back, I don't know. Brad Stevens just knows what he's doing. His team is is a threat in the Eastern Conference.
Skeets
Of the night. I'll have to peek out the little hole here in the box. Do we have a sponsorship?
Tas Melas
Gentlemen, we actually do have a sponsorship. Okay, Sammy J93 is back.
Skeets
Okay.
Tas Melas
Saying how much does it cost to sponsor WOBOY today? It costs 999. $9.99. That's it for Sammy. Oh, Sammy said I'd like to sponsor on behalf of my brother Scooter J. All right, so Scooter J. Scooter J by way of Sammy J.
Skeets
Okay, excellent.
Trey Kirby
Well, woah, boy.
Skeets
The nice sponsor here, I love it from a box. I had no idea. I don't have a computer in here but the Wilbur goes to Cade Cunningham. I'm gonna go to Cade. It was between Denny Avdiya and Cade. You already said Denny's line. Great game. But Cade Cunningham 29 points, 13 assists in the Pistons win over the Knicks 11:17 from the floor, 3 of 4 from deep for Cade. Added three boards, two block shots swiped, one steal in only 29 minutes of action. Way to go Cade with the Whoa Boy for Scooter J. Is that what you said?
Tas Melas
Yeah, that one's for Scooter J.
Skeets
Nice.
Tas Melas
Cade got credit for that block at the end of the first half it was like Brunson chucking up a heat in the play by play data. It goes down as a team shot attempt and a block for Cade Cunningham.
Skeets
There you go.
Tas Melas
Surprising to me.
Skeets
It's on the graphic now for Whoa Boy. Yeah. Getting two on the night Tass tonight's pick em game. Where are we going?
Trey Kirby
We got five fives tonight on the schedule. What I mean by that, there are five games with a point spread that's got five in it. Cleveland favored by five and a half going into Indiana. San Antonio favored by five and a half going into Memphis. Dallas favor by five and a half going into Sacramento. And then ours. It's moved though. It has moved. The Los Angeles Lakers were favored by five going into New Orleans. So on our graphic it's five and a half because you know we can and we can never push. We always have to add a half. But it's now up to six because people are betting, betting on the Lakers like yourself, Skeets and me who think that the you know, it's the Pelicans. They can take care of business. Trey's got the Pellies to lose by five or less, essentially.
Tas Melas
Yeah, we shall see. Pelicans are 11 and eight as home underdogs.
Trey Kirby
This guy knows that, man.
Skeets
I love that great stat.
Trey Kirby
11 and 8, pretty good.
Skeets
Not bad.
Tas Melas
The teams think they're going to blow.
Skeets
Them out because of the Pelicans. Yeah.
Tas Melas
And they play hard.
Trey Kirby
Yeah. That's why the Lakers are playing a bunch of sub 500 teams here in January. That's why they're getting dubs. We'll see if they can win by six, seven or. Or more.
Skeets
All right, we'll find out tonight. Did you say the fifth game, by the way? You said.
Trey Kirby
Yeah, maybe. Did I fly through 4? I thought you said Cleveland and Indiana. The San Antonio, Memphis. Did. Definitely did that one. Dallas, Sacramento.
Skeets
Then you said our game. I thought, oh, yeah, you left me hanging. What was the fifth?
Trey Kirby
Oh, I guess.
Tas Melas
Did you say Orlando, Washington?
Trey Kirby
Yeah, but that's seven and a half. I thought there's literally five fives. Maybe one has moved so hard that I didn't mention it. Now maybe it's Miami and Minnesota. Minnesota now favorite by 7. Maybe that maybe that line has moved.
Skeets
Not the sexiest lineup of games tonight.
Trey Kirby
Not sexy.
Tas Melas
No, no, no. Magic versus Wizards. Always fun for, you know, the supernatural element.
Skeets
Of course.
Tas Melas
I think Miami, Minnesota is probably the most interesting. That would be a good win for either team. That's true.
Skeets
