Not Gonna lie, my 2 year old is in the room today for the podcast and I had to bribe her over here with nerd clusters and juice. So if this sugar rush hits, Sorry. I did what I needed to do. Let's get this podcast started. Welcome back to Not Gonna Lie, a wave original brought to you by YouTube TV. I'm your host, Kylie Kelsey. I'm still thinking about movie theater pickles because yeah, can you imagine pickles and popcorn. Anyway, proud member of the Itty Bitty Titty committee and not even being self deprecating. For real, for real. Flat as a board and shockingly also the newest inductee of the Philadelphia Fat Ass Association. To be clear, that's ph 80. Also, Emma's saying, please don't get mad at me. I'm quoting you. Yeah, I. I do have a fat ass. This is not. I've. It's mine. It's attached to me. I know about it. That's right. Based on all the comments specifically about my ass on the other podcast curling clip, it looks like you guys are just now finding this out. Here's the behind the scenes clip. First of all, I'm fully squatted down. Okay. Exposed. Also, why does it zoom in directly on my ass? I looked at my husband while this clip was playing because I thought to myself, this man is fighting for his life. Jason was trying his very hardest to not say something about my butt. He succeeded. But yeah, guys, I'm wearing gray pants. They're snug as a bug in a rug. I don't know what to tell you. The comments on this were interesting. Greensburg 74 said, Kylie wins the glutes competition by a mile. You're darn tootin. I do. My husband has a chicken ass. I tell him all the time. Kenna Confetti said, cameraman doing the Lord's work. I mean, it's hard when it's the size of the earth. Okay, they are my shoes. Aren't they cool? They're kind of like rainbow shoes. You can look in the other boxes and see if there's rainbow shoes. Go ahead, get in there, girl. I'm not going to put them on right now because I'm in the middle of doing something, but I appreciate you laying them out for me. Can you take the other ones out and see if there's anything in there? Yep. We're going to hear wrestling. Tiff, that's okay. At a GL with Kylie, girl, that booty should be illegal. This is so ridiculous. Here's what I have to say. About me being caked up, okay? I was a field hockey player, period. Seriously, though, for those of you who have not watched field hockey or. Thank you so much. Or thought too much about field hockey. We play an entire game. 60 minutes of gameplay. That would be great. Thanks so much. We play. This is going to be absolutely feral. We play 60 minutes of a game in a completely squatted position. I'd say it's probably 50. 50. 50. Anatomy 50. The sport I played since I was in second grade. Hey, Ms. Mouse. Ms. Mouse, can you go in the other room and play with your tea set maybe? And your baby, I kid you not. For 40, 45 minutes straight earlier, I was like, hey, do you want to play with me? Hey, do you want to play with me? And she was like, no, I'm over here playing with my baby. Guys, I wasn't trying to put my ass on display, okay? I wasn't trying to do that. I was trying to mind my own business and learn how to curl. Okay? You caught me in gray pants that are skin tight because your girl's got a couple extra on since I just gave birth nine months ago. Katie, A layoff. God. To be fair, I'm proud of her. She's always. She always has my back. I said it. But also, make sure you support this awesome sport.

You can watch our special curling FAFO episode on February 3rd on YouTube. Okay, now that that's behind us, I see what you did there. Back to his agenda. Coming up on today's episode, I'm getting in on the 2016 throwback trend. I'm going to get honest about some of the most ridiculous photos Queen Emma scoured the Internet to find and promptly put it in our rundown. After that, I'm going to be joined right here by the WNBA rook of the year, former number one overall pick, the star of the Dallas Wings, and unrivaled's breeze basketball club, Paige Beckers. But before we get to all that, let's start off with the real one. Comment of the week. I'm gonna cry. Where were you? Drawing on paper. You promise? Why don't you go use the kid markers that are on the table? She just walked in here like this. There was a viral tweet a couple days ago that says, how do I explain to a non sports fan that sometimes loving your team means turning off the game because you're superstitious and maybe they'll score if you stop watching? Yeah. And a real one at Grayson's, commented Kylie Kelsey Core. I just love that my influence in the world is how to practice superstitious behavior. The most ridiculous thing that I personally have done as a superstitious act. There was. There was one time earlier, guys, it got a little dicey. The end of this season for the Birds. There was one game where I thought, maybe if I watch it upside down. I'm so embarrassed to be admitting this. If I watch it upside down, that'll help. I tried to flip my head upside down as if that would turn it on its head, literally. And I'd probably do it again if it had worked, but it didn't. So I can tell you, we don't have to flip ourselves upside down. That's it. For real. One comment of the week. Now, in honor of the most viral trend of 2026 so far, let's throw it back 10 whole years. Yep, that's right. A decade. This is. Can I be honest about 2016? Brought to you by DoorDash. When life happens, get a little order delivered with DoorDash. For anyone unaware. This past week, everyone all over social media has been sharing their favorite photos of themselves from 2016. I did not participate in this trend, but some of the real ones dug up the photos for me anyway and somehow put them in the hands of Queen Emma. So here we are. Okay, now it's time for a proper 2016 slideshow. Holy. First up, this photo. Oh, my God. This. I can't. I just. It's so bad. This picture was in Kansas City. It was the first Christmas, I think, that everyone was together. Look at Ed's mustache. Oh, it was December 2016. Okay, this is the end of 2016. At the beginning of 2016 is the first time I met Travis when we went to the Pro bowl in Hawaii. Prime example of time where Jason was done earlier than Travis and we got to enjoy a little bit more time off and travel to support Travis. So that's fun. Oh, yep. Okay. This was. This is not child. This is. This is. This was beer Olympics for our field hockey team in college. We were green, and therefore we were aliens. I think I have antennas on my head. Mac is clearly the yellow team, and they were pineapples number three. This is Jason and I hugging on St. Patrick's Day. You want to talk about. You want to talk about my ass? There's another version of that photo where he's got a. Got a whole handful. How about that? It's when we were young and free and flirty and having a good ass time. Like we're not still, but it. Yeah, we were in. I Think like University City. There is a pretty significant bar crawl in Philly that happens. I. Yeah, I'm all for spirit Day, guys. I love. I love a little spirited action. I do believe I had a shamrock ribbon in my hair. I just. Any excuse to dress in spirited clothing. Okay, and the last one. Oh, my God, you're such an asshole. The last one isn't from 2016. It's from 2010, because why shouldn't we throw it back to when I graduated high school? A real one tagged me in it, and Queen Emma keeps trying to find a way to sneak it into the show. So here we go. Queen Emma, you want to know the worst part about this picture? First of all, yes, I did a peace sign, and yes, I stuck my tongue out. Okay, I did it. I did it. And I got caught because there's a photo of it. The worst part about this is I have jeans that are what my dad would describe as so tight, they look like they were painted on. And this shirt, I guarantee. I can almost guarantee it. Okay, 50. 50 shot. It's either from Forever 21 or Wet Seal. I don't know which, but there she is. And let me tell you the messed up part about this whole thing. It's not even mine. It was my sister's. Did she know that I took it? No, because if she did, she would have showed up to that party and told me to take it off. Ah. Oh, God. So, long story short, embarrassing. But you know what's even better? You know what's better? When fair is fair, because jokes on, Queen Emma. I only agreed to put that belt photo into the rundown if she also shared a belt pic. So here we go. Let's see it. Queen Emma. Is that a skirt? What's happening? That's a chunky belt on top of a skirt. A color block skirt. I mean, it is. Pretending to be trapped in a London phone booth. That's pretty mortifying. Yeah, I feel like it's pretty even, to be honest with you. I don't know. This feels so much more innocent than. Maybe we'll throw it back to some more 2016 stuff. Maybe we'll do another a little decade throwback with two of my closest friends from college. Let's do it. All right, that's it for can I be honest about 2016 brought to you by Doordash. Next up, Doom scroll the week. Doom scroll of the week is brought to you by Peloton. Check out the new Peloton cross training Tread plus, powered by Peloton iq. First up, on doom scroll. My germaphobia has me straight shuddering at this one. Queen Emma, the clip, please.

Today my husband and I were sitting in the living room watching the Thunder game with my 3 year old. I look over and my 3 year old is eyeballing my husband's water cup. And I'm like, h. She walks over, without hesitation, slowly spits into his water glass. She was like, I was just adding more water to it. Don't ever do that again. But I always do this.
A
I would crash out so hard.
C
Okay, so always insinuates that this is something that you've done. Not only another time, but many, many times.
A
I could cry. I could straight up cry. First of all, cue the lovely woman who does food reviews and said, yuck, yuck. I think that this about sums up the fact that ignorance is bliss is a phrase that was created in parenthood. Because there are a number of things that we have come across, revelations, if you will, where my children have decided to let me know what they did and then divulge that they have been doing that. So, for instance, someone. I'm not gonna name any names. Someone went to the bathroom, they peed. When I went upstairs to assist another child in the restroom, there was no toilet paper in the toilet. There was pee in the toilet, but there was no toilet paper in the toilet. And I asked that child, did you throw your toilet paper in the trash can? And they said no. And I said, did you wipe? And they said no. And I had to sit with the fact that I have a cereal drip dryer in my house when we have plenty of toilet paper available. This is along the same lines, but I'm going to tell you what.
B
No.
A
Immediately, no. I don't even want to share a w. Share a water cup for fear that the backwash will be unbearable. All right, let's keep it scrolling because I've just discovered exactly what's going to motivate me to get my workouts in this year. And it's got four legs and it's covered in fluff. What? Queen Emma, the clip, please. There is a very fluffy cat on the handlebars. You could fit any of her peloton bike. If it fits. They sits and they. Oh, my God. Nailed that. Oh, my. Maybe I need to get a cat for my peloton. Who knows? I do. I can't right now. We have a time, then it will be time and then we will address it. And peloton might want to trademark these cat handlebars because one of our NGL queens Leslie, send us this video of her rag doll cat, Eloise. Outstanding, Queen Leslie. Look at Eloise. First of all, for those audio listeners, Eloise has the perfect little white tips to her piggies. I just want one. Just one, maybe two. Stop it. Reminder, one of my ins for 2026 was kittens. As was not leaving the house. So this is a yes all around for me. I'm so into this. Queen Leslie. If you just want to send me more clips of Eloise, that would be so cool. Thanks. Asking, Asking for a friend. That's it for Doom. Scroll the Week brought to you by Peloton. Coming up, I'm going to be joined by WNBA rookie of the Year herself, Paige Beckers. In the meantime, some messages from me. This episode is sponsored by YouTube TV. If you're a mom, you know we're basically professional multitaskers. At any given moment, I'm usually feeding at least one of my tiny humans with or without my body, letting the dog outside and talking on the phone with Jason about dinner or with Queen Emma about the podcast. And now she's officially not going to lie. Paige Beckers, AKA Paige Buckets, welcome to the show.
B
Thank you. Thank you for having me.
A
It is. First of all, I love how many people I get to talk to at this point that are associated with the W and bringing women's sports exactly where it belongs, in the forefront of everyone's world. Right? We're in the. We're in the. The era now of women's sports is some of the top watched broadcasts. How's that make you feel? You're in that? You're doing it?
B
Yeah, it's really cool. It's really rewarding. I grew up like just a sports fanatic, so I watched everything. I grew up in Minnesota, so the Minnesota Links were my team and Maya Morris and that whole Dyn dynasty when they were winning. And just to see how far it's grown and to see how much like it's just like you said, it's in the forefront and it's like all over social media, it's all over tv. Like just the accessibility, I think is the huge thing because I feel like women's sports has always been great, but I feel like now we're getting the platform to kind of show it and people, other people are starting to realize that as well. And so it's just like, yeah, it's just like a phenomenon right now. Like every women's sport is amazing to watch. And so people are starting, starting to finally realize that. And I think it's a long time coming.
A
I do think it's great because we're in the, the, we're in the time of social media. And social media allows you to get this sort of personal view of the athletes and the coaches and everyone that's surrounding the sport. And it gives us the opportunity to have like this personal buy in. Right. Like we're like, they seem like a hilarious person. I want to follow what they're doing or I'm going to cheer for them because they are invested in this thing and that interests and it gives us almost like a step into your personal world so that people can be even deeper fans. But in the, in the world of social media, this is the second week in a row I'm talking to someone with a strong connection to Dallas. Social media shows that maybe you might have put on some Dallas Cowboys merch.
B
Yeah.
A
Do you want to clear the air on that one or.
B
I mean, I'm trying to be one within the city. Like.
A
Sure, sure.
B
I'm just trying to support Dallas sports. I've been to Maverick games, Trinity. I see games. I've been to the Stars games. I've been to Cowboys games. Yeah, I'm just repping the city like now.
A
Serious question, do you still skull?
B
Oh, yeah, for sure. I'm a huge Vikings fan. It was a tough season being a Vikings fan coming into the city of Dallas. It was tough NFL season for us for sure.
A
Okay. All right. Well, just, I'm, I mean, I think you look better in Vikings stuff, just not that you need my opinion.
B
Thank you. I love, I love purple, so I'm always going to rock purple.
A
Great. Speaking of the Cowboys, you did recently go viral for throwing a perfect spiral.
B
I mean, I'm actually Like, that's one of my biggest regrets is not playing, like, flag football when I was younger.
A
Is that really?
B
Yeah, I was actually really. I mean, obviously I'm going to, like, talk good about myself, but I was an athlete.
A
This. This brings me to my next question. Were you just good at every sport? You can say yes. No. You can say no. This is. We're. We're all about women supporting women.
B
Okay.
A
We have to support ourselves. Okay. Were. You were good at every sport?
B
I was gifted. I was blessed. I will say I. I played, like, baseball. I won, like, the Little League World championship in Minnesota for that. I was like. And then football, it was just like recess. Like, it was always recess. Sure.
A
I think we have the clip of the spiral, because if we're going to talk about it, go for it. You're joking. That's a cannon.
B
Yeah. It's hard when the football gets bigger because my hand, like, it's not a man's hand, so. Sure. I like the medium size. I can really launch it, for sure.
A
I'll tell you, the cheat code for, like, a larger football is get at the backside of the laces.
B
Okay.
A
I had to find that out the hard way when I, for some reason, got appointed the quarterback of our Powderpuff game of high school. And I was like, yeah, this is a mistake.
B
Powderpuff was so fun.
A
It honestly was thrilling. And I love. Speaking of girls sports and women's sports, girls flag football right now looks like a good time.
B
I know.
A
And the NFL has the partnerships and. And they're making sure that the game is growing. It is so much fun to watch. And I really, like, I missed my chance, so I'm right on board.
B
Literally. I think about that now.
A
The top comment on this clip is the Browns are on the phone. Were you surprised that people were surprised at your athleticism with that throw? You can say yes again.
B
I mean, yeah. I mean, I'm an athlete. Like, obviously, they're not going to say.
A
It with your whole chest. You are a professional athlete.
B
Yeah. So, yeah, I wouldn't expect people to think I knew how to throw a football. But, like, why are you. Like, why are you. I can throw a football. I don't know. Like, I can just throw a football.
A
All right, guys, set the record straight. Paige can throw a fucking football.
B
Get with it.
A
Okay.
B
Don't act surprised next time, please.
A
All right, well, I'll bring it back to basketball because the timing of this conversation could not be more perfect. I'm going to the first ever unrivaled Game in Philly next week. And you're going to be there. Tell us about it.
B
Yeah. So, I mean, just the entire thing.
A
Yeah.
B
So Unrivaled was founded a couple years ago by Nafisa and Stewie and they just kind of came together to provide an opportunity for women to play in the off season without having to go overseas. And it's different. It's a three on three basketball league. It's about two months. It's based in Miami and there's eight club teams now with like six players each. And there's a developmental group as well who come in for injured players. So there's a lot of amazing women's basketball players here just in the hub of Miami. And there's like 14 games. There's a playoff, there's a championship, there's a one on one tournament. And so it's really fun. It's a different brand of basketball, obviously. WNBA and most basketball is played five on five. So this is a three on three experience. It's full court, the length of of the quarter, smaller seven minute quarters. We play to a target score. So at the end of the third quarter, it's plus 11 of whoever has the highest score. So you're not like playing till the buzzer. You're playing till that person or that team reaches that score. So. And this is our first year going on a trip and not playing just in Miami. So Philly was the first tour stop. And I think. What's the arena's name?
A
You guys will be at Xfinity.
B
Xfinity, yes. And we sold that out. I think it's about like 22.
A
Yeah, you did.
B
So we're really excited to go and make that trip. We got a few Philly women on the team who are excited to go back home and play just because also there's no W team there. So it's a city that needs to see some women's basketball.
A
You guys are. I've said this already, but you guys are scratching the itch for us. While we hold out until 2030 when our W team arrives, I will say that I will plant the seed. Now, we'd love to have you. Sorry, Dallas, but I'm not sorry. We love our sports. We love them. We're so. I think selling out Xfinity arena is the perfect display of that. We are ready for this. And we. I've connected with Wanda Sykes, who was on the show about her efforts and her wife Alex, their efforts in getting this together. And it's so exciting, specifically coming from a mom of four young girls that you guys are bringing women's basketball to Philadelphia where it rightfully belongs. Yeah, because I need to be able to take them to basketball games. Chances are they're going to be as tall as mom, if not taller. And so we need to put at least one of these children, their height to good use. Yes, but we are so excited to see the game. I saw a quote from Kate Martin on her best pitch to get Caitlin Clark and Asia Wilson to join unrivaled next year. She said we can go to the beach on off days.
B
Exactly.
A
Which is a great. That's convincing.
B
Winter's Miami is the best spot.
A
Like we were just saying before we started this record. It's like 30 degrees in Philadelphia right now, so dicey. But what would your pitch be to get Caitlin and Asia on board?
B
Yeah, I mean, Kate made a great point. I think winters in Miami, you can't think of a better spot. And I think with here, they. I like having a routine and everything in one building. And you come here, you get your treatment, you get your massage, you get your recovery, you get your basketball, you get your lifts in. You just. It's a great hub to have an off season. And I think in the off season, the best way to get better is to play. And this provides different opportunities in practice and in games to play, to get better, to get your conditioning in, to get your lifting in. And I just think it's like the best of the best here. So, like, iron sharpens iron. Like, it's the best way to get better to play basketball and to play against the best women in. In the world. So that's my pitch, along with, obviously, the great weather. Miami's always got something to do. It's never a boring place. And it's also like one like flight away from Turks or Jamaica, if you want to let go.
A
That's such a good point.
B
Yes. Because I went to Turks during the off season. I went from Dallas to Miami to Turk. So, like, it's just we get a couple days off. Like, we don't. We only play 14 games. We get like, Tuesdays, Wednesdays off. So if you want to take a quick trip.
A
You know what they call that?
B
Exactly.
A
That's what that is. Oh, that's such. That's a good one. You don't even have to go to a Miami beach on your off days. You can go to a beach beach.
B
A beach beach.
A
Oh, that's a good one. Okay, well, Caitlyn in Asia. You heard her. Who are we to argue? I know right now, what made you want to join the league? First in college for your nil deal and now as a player?
B
Yeah, I think just women supporting women again. I think I've been blessed with this tremendous platform and been able to have a voice and have followers on social media. And for me, last year, it was like more of like a ambassador role where I was like, advocating for the league, telling people when to watch, and sort of just carry with the momentum of trying to get more people to tune in and learn about Unraveled because it was the first year it has existed. And then again, just wanting to play. Like, I just. I love basketball. Like, it's really my life. Like when people say balls life, like, it's really my life. Like, I sleep, eat, breathe. Like, I'm constantly, like, watching it in the gym, like, just trying to get better. And I think I just love to play. So it's the best way. It's hard to play in the offseason. Everybody's out doing their own. Their own thing, and so it's hard to get good pickup and good run. And I think that's what I was talking about before. Like, it's the best way to get better. And then just, I mean, Nafisa and Stewie did a great thing of putting this thing together. And then there was a lot of investment from amazing people who have just poured into this league. And so you just want a return on their investment. And everybody who's worked so hard to make this thing happen, you just want to be a part of something that's so beautiful.
A
That's such an athlete mindset of, like, if. If we do well, everybody does well. And it's like the team. The team effort. Now, I also saw on the unrivaled schedule, there's going to be a one on one tournament that you mentioned. Who do you see as your biggest competition for that? Call them out.
B
One on one is so hard because it's literally dependent on, like, you're on an island, you're by yourself, and it's like tennis. So if you're having a bad. A bad go, like, you're the only one that can mentally pull yourself out of it.
A
Yep.
B
And it's like on that night, if it's not your night, you're. Yeah, you're done. So I think everyone. I'm not. I don't even want to get myself in trouble and say one specific name. I'm just say everybody. It's great competition. That's.
A
That's such a nice way to get It. You don't want to know. That's all right. I'm. I'm a very superstitious person. I see what you're saying. And I wouldn't want to put a target on my back either.
B
Right.
A
Like you. Piss off.
B
Ammunition.
A
No bulletin board material around here.
B
Nothing.
A
Pages. Paige is worried about everybody. Never look past an opponent. Everyone's a threat. That's real. I like that. Okay. For all the real ones who can't make it to an unrivaled game in Miami or Philly, you can also watch Unrivaled every Friday through Monday, with games airing exclusively on TNT True TV and streaming on hbo. Max. Now, I'd love to talk to you about your incredible rookie of the year. It's amazing. So congratulations. And I actually played the clip of you getting surprised in the spirit tunnel.
B
Thank you.
A
On Jennifer Hudson.
B
Yeah.
A
Were you genuinely shocked?
B
Actually, yeah. Actually, first of all, I was so, like, that was the most nervous I've been maybe ever. Cause, like, sometimes it was a tunnel walk for me. It was like the unknown of what beat they were about to make and if I was gonna be able to catch it. And I don't really like dancing like that, unless it's like a scripted TikTok, then I can learn it and I can get it down. But, like, one just, like, off the rip. No practice. No. No knowing of what's coming.
A
You just gotta vibe it.
B
Yeah. So I was actually really grateful that she came out and saved me. Cause I was running out of dance moves. Yes. I was running out of dance moves. I' thank you. Thank you so much.
A
But.
B
Yeah, I don't know why you're here.
A
But I'm so glad. Whatever you're gonna say next is perfect.
B
Yeah. She could have said anything.
A
Now, did you get a chance to celebrate after that?
B
Yeah, I was in la, so I was with some friends. Louisiana is a great city to just go out and have some fun, celebrate. I had a good dinner.
A
Well, on the subject of celebrating, the only way I personally know how to celebrate is with a deliciously refreshing Shirley Temple.
B
Best cheerleader.
A
And I've been told that we have that in common.
B
Oh, yeah. That's like, my favorite drink of all time.
A
I cannot emphasize how much I love a Shirley Temple. And what is it that you love about it?
B
Just the perfect blend of everything. It's like just excellence in a cup. That's such a good description.
A
It's just like, now are you. Now are you a. Are you a heavy grenadine person or are you Like a good. Because my sister was always heavy on grenadine extra cherries. I am like, as it comes, girl.
B
Oh yeah. No, as it comes. Like I'll appreciate whatever however the bartender made it. Whether it's be heavier on the Sprite, heavier on the Grenadine, real cherries, fake cherries, whatever it is, I'm just gonna appreciate it for its own greatness.
A
Just here for the ride.
B
Yeah. That's all.
A
I just. When a. When a bar. When I get in front of a full bar, I just did it in a. In a hotel lobby. I sat down to eat dinner really quick by myself and I looked up and the bartender was making one. And I know it was for a child, I know that. But I was like, is that what I think it is? And he was like, it is if you think it's a Shirley Temple. And I was like, you wanna dial one of those up for me? He was like, oh, wild night, huh? I. It's just unbelie refreshing. And I love them dearly with my whole heart.
B
Yeah.
A
Can never be good. You can't. Do you make them at home or do you. Because I'm a. I'm the type of person, I capitalize. When I get in front of a full bar, it's always going to be a Shirley Temple. Like a wedding, Shirley Temple, all of that. But I don't make them at home and I think it makes it more special. Do you make them at home? I have.
B
And it. I will say it's not the same. Like, obviously I'll appreciate it. Sure, I make it such a Shirley Temple. But it's just when you're like at a bar, at a restaurant, it's just a different.
A
I'll make sure when you come to Philly they give you Shirley Temple.
B
You can do that. I've never had one during a game, but I feel like it would be the perfect time.
A
Wouldn't that be hilarious if you went to squirt like a water bottle in your mouth and you're like, what the is that? You know what they say about parenthood. In the iOS we're in the thick of cold and flu season, which means I am especially not playing around when it comes to the disgusting germs our kids constantly bring into the house. When my kids walk in the house, first thing we're doing? Washing the hands. We're not getting a snack before we wash our hands. That's gross. And the CVS Health app has us covered with hand soap, hand sanitizer, tissues, everything we could possibly need to fight off those germs. Plus, the CVS Health app makes the entire healthcare experience simpler and more convenient, especially for busy parents and caregivers. We're right in the middle of winter here in Philadelphia and even though the snow is fun and festive, I have to say I do get a little case of the winter blues this time of year. But something that brings me some joy during the winter months and really every month of the year is comfortable clothes. Go to Macy's.com or shop in store today. Circling back to your rookie year, did any veteran players sort of take you under their wing early on? Did you have mentors in place?
B
Uh, just because of the UConn connection? I felt like I had a lot of ex UConn players. Like Dee and Sue were two that weren't playing, but have always just been there for me, like, mentors for me in terms of, like, how to navigate my rookie season. And then I think Fisa was one too. She just helped me a lot in terms of, like, learning about, like, the business side of it too. And again, how to navigate your rookie season. There's a lot of highs and lows, ups and downs, and yeah, there's a lot to manage. So I think those three. Natasha Cloud was one too, that I've always kind of looked up to in terms of how she carries herself and how she is just herself and not sorry for it. So there's so many, and I feel like there's a lot that I can name and I feel bad leaving everybody out, but I guess those are just a few.
A
I mean, it's a great asset and says something about the W as a whole that you had the opportunity to have that many people who were willing to be in your corner and a mentor and. And help you along the way. Because I think in. In a lot of situations, not necessarily in sports, but in life, sometimes you get in a situation and people are like, fighting tooth and nail in a way that they don't see the ass.
B
The.
A
That it's an asset to be able to help others along the way. So that's amazing that you have enough that you can't even name all of them because there are that many. As a fan of the sport yourself, who were you most excited to get to play against in your first year? Was there like a. A little bit of a moment of like, holy shit.
B
Yeah. I think Chelsea Gray was one of them. She's like one that I grew up watching, like, hitting the craziest shots, like hitting the most clutch shots. And she always gave, like, Minnesota problems when it were. It was like the Sparks versus the. The Lynx. And so she was one that I, like, always looked up to and it was crazy, like, sharing the court with her and like, watching my little childhood self make her like she's making those shots. And then now I'm in the game, and I have to guard that. So she's definitely one that I was like, this is definitely full circle and, like, really crazy.
A
Now, I asked Asia Wilson this question as well when she was on, but I'm curious for your take. Who would you say is the toughest player in the w to defend? A. Just said Stewie, if that. If that helps you all.
B
I mean, that's, like, I don't really have to guard Stewie. She's a little bit taller for me. So I leave that to the other. Like, I don't guard Asia. I don't guard Stewie. I don't really guard Nafisa. So, like, those lucky. Yeah, I'm like, y' all can have that. I'm a stick. But, like, the guards are not that much easier. But Kelsey Mitchell, I feel like she's on the fever. She's just so, like, herky jerky and, like, quick and unpredictable and, like, speed athleticism, but can shoot, like, just everything. It's tough to guard.
A
Now your rookie year is in the books, and I saw that you've already started training for a team USA you guys had a training camp in December. Is that right?
B
Yeah.
A
Now, I'm all about this young intern class, as you nickname this group, aka the 2020 college recruiting class.
B
Yep.
A
Tell me about the young intern class.
B
Well, I feel like in basketball and in sports, sometimes, like, I feel like youth and just a team. Being younger can kind of, like, get a negative rap because, like, they don't have the experience. They don't have veteran leadership. But I'm like, we're young and turt, like, that's all we need, just, like, a chip on our shoulder. We're fun. We're competitive. Like, we all just want to win, get better, and grow. And, like, you got to start somewhere. So if we're gonna. We're gonna start with the young insert, and then we're gonna grow into vets, and then we're gonna go into the leaders. And so that was. I guess we kind of. I was just yapping. Sometimes I just get into. Yeah. And so it's like, yeah, we're young and turn. And that's. That's kind of what we. We've gone by, I guess.
A
I love that you're trying to set the vibes as positive, first of all. Second, I think that there is something to be said about how play is contagious and sort of that spirit is contagious. So if you can come into it saying that you guys are young and turn, that's good vibes all around.
B
Exactly. And then everybody wants to be young and turned, so, like, the old heads want to be a part.
A
You're actually right. You're actually bringing a little fresh spirit.
B
To the older crowd. Exactly.
A
Okay.
B
All right.
A
I can get down with this. What do the vets think about the Young and Turn nickname?
B
Have you asked them?
A
Have they weighed in?
B
Yeah, they think we're just like, fun kids. Like, just childish kids who just love to play basketball and who are fun. I feel like we're all, like, fun, goofy, and like, a little bit trolls. So I feel like that's. That's the kind of thing that they.
A
See us as now is that. I know you mentioned it, but, like, how is that dynamic when you're playing with women that you watched? Like, is that an out of body experience? Like, you mentioned it, it's like watching your younger self step onto the court and, like, get to play with people, watching them on the same court, make the shots.
B
Yeah, it's definitely an out of body experience. It's just, it's really fun because I think, like, the highest form of respect is, like, competition and, like, going at each other. So I think that's kind of something that we all pride ourselves on is like, we all support each other. We're like girls, girls. Like, we want each other to do the best, but on the court, like, we're trying to take each other's heads out. Take you out. Yeah. It was like when I was watching Anthony Edwards and his USA experience, like, he always said, like, he looked up to KD and like, that was his man. And then once the, the Wolves and the sun played each other in the playoffs last year, like, Ant was just jawing his neck off and Katie's just laughing because it's just like, it's full circle. And like, Ant respects Katie so much that the best way to show that is to, like, go at each other. And I feel like that's like the best description of, like, just a disrespect in terms of competition.
A
That's perfect. He wouldn't need to go after him if he didn't think he was a threat.
B
Exactly, exactly.
A
Now with Team usa, I think every basketball fan in the country is excited about the possibility of you teaming up with Caitlin Clark after competing against each other for so long. How cool has that been with Caitlyn and the whole group?
B
Yeah, it's been cool. I think a lot of us, me and Caitlin even played together, like on the Junior Olympic level when we were younger and we were in high school and it was always a fun time and we were like. Like, we all played really well together. Like, I still feel like we had, like, one of the best U16 or U17 teams to ever exist and to see it all, like, come into fruition of us all living out our dreams and what we talked about and what we've worked for and to like, get to the pros and God willing, we all want to represent USA at the Olympic level. Like, we feel like that's the highest level that we can represent ourselves in our country. So, yeah, it's crazy because, like, everybody's pinned me and Caitlin against each other for the longest time and we're cool, like, we're friends, but again, it's just, it's respect of the competition. So we understand that. We understand how media works and how they want to pin two people against each other and they're supposed to hate each other and blah, blah, blah. So we all understand that and it's all in the love of the game. But at the same time, to. To have like two fan bases that really hate each other, have to come together for a couple months will be really fun and so everybody just have to get along for a little bit.
A
Well, I mean, it's. We are going to be very proud as the USA to be able to be like, yeah, we do have the best of the best, right? Like, all together. When you're. What are you most looking forward to when it comes to LA 2028? Is it that? Is it watching the fans come together finally and got the, on the, on the, on the media takes.
B
Yeah, no, I think from my experience watching the Olympics last year, it was amazing. Just like to see the fan presence and how they travel and it'll be even crazier. Like the Olympics. I've. I haven't watched like, the Olympics in the United States. So to see that and to see, like, how it impacts just everything, it'll be a crazy experience. Like, God willing, like, who knows? Like, I. I obviously want to work to, to make the team, but don't.
A
Worry, I said I was superstitious. I got this. It's a wooden spoon. We're good. We're not gonna jinx you. We're not gonna jinx you today.
B
Thank you. You got it on. You got it on. Locked. But yeah, I think. And 2. Like to watch so many different sports and I feel like, like there were sports I never even not knew existed, but, like, never watched before and never seen, like, people compete at the highest level and to represent your country, it's just like, it means so much. And so to see people that invested and to see so many beautiful stories come out, it's just. It's what makes sports the most beautiful thing ever.
A
It's also awesome that in like the Olympic village style of living, you guys, as Team USA would get to. That was too. That was too committed. I'm going to back up for my superstitious purposes. Team USA across all the sports gets to come together. So you have people who are basketball players and they're rubbing elbows with people who are professionals in archery or things like that, where it's like, you would never cross paths otherwise. And now you're all working towards a common goal of like, let's fucking medal.
B
Yeah. Yeah.
A
That's so cool. That's such an. That's such an awesome. Yep. I'm gonna cross my fingers and toes.
B
Thank you. All of it. Yes, all of them.
A
The last question for you, Paige, Long before you were a college star, you were a sixth grade basketball sensation and inspired a ridiculously viral tweet that I'm sure you know. It's the photo of 12 year old you. It's blurry, but I do believe you might have braces. Is that right?
B
I had. I've had braces twice in my life, so that definitely could have been a time where I had them. Sure.
A
It's a photo from 2013. And the tweet says, Remember the name Paige Beckers. Sixth grade. Think Diana Taurasi. Best sixth grade guard I've ever seen. The tweet has 13,000 retweets and over 100,000 likes. Holy shit. How do you feel about this being one of the most popular photos of you?
B
It's funny because obviously like when you're younger, you're like, dang, I was chopped. But then. Which is like, I was like kind of ugly. But then I grew up and I had like a glow up. It was a cute picture. It was a good picture. But like, dang, like the headband, the. It was the braces, the. Everything. It was a crazy prediction. I'll say.
A
I mean, great prediction.
B
Yeah, he.
A
I mean, that was. He kind of fucking nailed that.
B
No, it's just really crazy to see like a full circle moment.
A
Now, this scout compared you to Diana Taurasi. Is there any WNBA or NBA player you do like being compared to the most?
B
DT is one, definitely. Just in terms of like, she's one of the greatest of all time. Subird is one, I think a little bit of Maya. Maya was way more athletic than me, but the ability to get to her spots on the floor and shoot in the mid range. And then Kyrie is one on the men's side in terms of like the finishing, the creativity. And I would say like Shay Gilgis, Alexander, Devin Booker, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, like masters of the mid range. I would say for sure.
A
Okay, I will. I do have to mention I went to Laura Marion High School. So shout out to Kobe because whenever he got announced, it was 6, 6 from Lower Marion High School. And he gave a lot.
B
That's crazy.
A
Yeah, and he gave a lot back to our high school. He was, he was always coming back, always stopping with the teams, always paying back into the community that, that he came from. So he, it was, it was really cool to watch. Now, now you are the one inspiring young girls everywhere to play the game of basketball. As a mom of four girls, I'm wondering what you would tell parents out here listening, why they should encourage their daughters to play.
B
Yeah, I think specifically for me, like growing up, I kind of specialized early. So as a parent, like I would want my kid to stay in multiple sports for like, obviously it's a fine balance of like, okay, this is the one that I want to be great at and this is the one that I'm in love with but, but like to continue to play other sports. I think early specialization, especially for women, creates more injuries. Like, you're just so used to that movement and that pattern to where other sports can like get you to different movements, get you to do different mobility exercises and stretching and things like that. And I think that too is like a. And like sports just teaches you the best life lessons, like adversity overcoming, like winning, how to handle winning, how to handle losing and failure. And so I think sports is like, like, it's taught me the most beautiful lessons and it's taught me to like, be grounded, be grateful, never take anything for granted. And then I think lastly, the beauty of friendships, like, I have some of my sisters, family, friends, like the closest people in my life were like my teammates. And then to be able to learn and grow from different coaching staff and just relationships. I think once you, like, obviously I'm 24, but once you look back in life, like at the end of your life, like, that's the thing that you're going to value the most is the people and how many people you touched and how many people you affected. And I think just relationships are the biggest value to me in life. So I think a lot of that happens through sport as well.
A
Well, I can't thank you enough for being an inspiration to women, but also an inspiration to young girls because I can guarantee you my girls will be watching you play and cheering you on. And I can't wait to cheer you on. And at the Unrivaled game in Philly, you can watch Unrivaled every Friday through Monday on TNT Sports, with games airing exclusively on TNT True TV and streaming on hbo. Max Paige, thank you so, so much for coming on. I'm so happy that we got to chat.
B
Yes. Thank you for having me. Appreciate it.

B
Smell like a dog.
A
I smell like a dog. That's so nice of you. Thanks, baby. Smell like a flower. A flower and a dog. Is there anything nicer? Do I have chapstick on? Yeah, you have lipid. I will cry. Okay. Don't make me cry. I just got so sad. Don't make me cry. Love you. I love you so much. What's so stinky here? I don't know. Did you fart? What is going on? It was a mosquito. Yeah, a mosquito farted and that's why it smells.
B
Yeah.
A
Dude, you better go have words of that mosquito.
