The following podcast is a Dear Media production.
Amanda Hirsch
Welcome back to the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. I'm your host, Amanda Hirsch, and I still can't believe that I get to chat with some of my favorite stars on my very own podcast, where you'll feel like you're just talking shit with your best friends in your living room. I don't like being in the situation where I have to be, like, what's it called?
Regina
Confrontational.
Amanda Hirsch
Confrontational. I'm good at it. I think you are. Like, first of all, with my family.
Regina
I'll fucking murder if anyone has ever mean to know. Up, please.
Amanda Hirsch
Run for a fucking shelf. No, seriously, I'll fucking. I'll whip a kid at the park.
Regina
Like, no, seriously, get. Seriously, seriously, get. Seriously.
Amanda Hirsch
No, the things I do, you guys, you would literally, like, if his cousin is being mean to him.
Regina
But also, like, let's just remind the people. You can't ask the Uber driver to turn the air up.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah, yeah.
Regina
Limits.
Amanda Hirsch
That's what she's here for. Limits. Like, no, that's what I'm saying. Or I can't tell the fucking girl at the salon, like, my scalp is on flags, you know? Yeah, sure. Should we remind people I speak Spanish?
Regina
Guys, this is why I'm on the show, too. So everyone knows that Amanda speaks pretty good Spanish. Like, pretty good enough. I love how you're pretty good enough to, like, have a full conversation with me and espanol.
Amanda Hirsch
I need to move to Miami because when I get to Florida, everyone speaks Spanish there, and I just feel like I'm sliving.
Regina
I mean, you speak Espanol conmigo with the person that does your blowout?
Amanda Hirsch
Like, no. And some people don't roll with it because they think I'm a green guy, you know? But anyway, back to being confrontational sometimes when I have to be and with people that I don't feel as comfortable if it's a stranger or somebody I just met. But, you know, like, you have to put your foot down. I swear to God, you guys, I black out. Like, I don't remember what I said.
Regina
Like, you said the perfect thing.
Amanda Hirsch
I said the perfect thing. Literally blackout. And. And by the way, like. And I think we see this sometimes on reality TV when people, like, fight and stuff, but then they'll go back to their room and cry. Like, that's me.
Regina
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
You know what I mean? Like, I'll. I'll be there in the moment. I won't be a. But I'll spiral. But I'll spiral. Which, you know, I Will spiral. We shall spiral. Should we tell people why we are wearing these awesome goggles today?
Regina
Yeah. I mean, Amanda, just book the craz.
Amanda Hirsch
Easiest guest, Walton Goggins.
Regina
That is actually Rick.
Amanda Hirsch
You guys is actually Rick. I mean, White Lotus. What's the new one? Comment?
Regina
No, we've talked about this. Wait, you know, something crazy.
Amanda Hirsch
What?
Regina
Shep and him should do ayahuasca together.
Amanda Hirsch
You think he does drugs?
Regina
There's no way a human being is that calm.
Amanda Hirsch
No, I need it. I need his calm. By the way, I want to tell you guys, for real, I could talk to him for a very long time. And when I say I could talk to him, I want him to talk to me. I want him to raise me, perhaps be my daddy.
Regina
Wait, you know that episode where, like, Nick is, like, in the pool and he's getting. That's you and him.
Amanda Hirsch
Like, I just want to be his child. Like, when I was like, yeah, my kid is wild, like, jumping off the wall. It's just like, one day, like, wait till you guys hear this interview with Walton Goggins. Because, you know, I. I'm inspired by him, and I'm. I'm loving an era for any actor or actress that they're getting, like, their kind of big, big moment at age 40, 50, 60. You know what I mean? Like, I feel like it just gives so much inspiration to people. Like, yeah, you're so used to, like, thinking, oh, you didn't make it in your 20s. You didn't make it in your 30s. Like, you're. If it's like you're. You're 30.
Regina
Those timelines.
Amanda Hirsch
Those timelines for, like, screw, like, the baby husband timeline, but even the career timeline. Well, yeah, whereas I'm here to tell you. Walton's here to tell you so many people that are doing amazing things. Not at 20, not at 30, 40, 50, 60, whatever, you guys. It can happen at any. It looks like we smoke. You guys, chill.
Regina
Well, remember when I asked you, like, when did you start the podcast? Because I was like, oh, my God, my life. Because I was like, what were you doing at my age? And you were like, nothing.
Amanda Hirsch
No, nothing.
Regina
And seriously, you don't understand how, like.
Amanda Hirsch
It chilled you out. Wait.
Regina
Okay. I'm fine.
Amanda Hirsch
You're fine.
Regina
Especially, like, in New York, people are just, like. They see everyone, like, doing so many big things and becoming millionaires at age 13 that it's just like, why am I not a millionaire?
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Regina
But then there's people like you that just, like, you're like, regina, you're fine. You're not doing anything but, like, it's fine.
Amanda Hirsch
I. Until Noah was born, which was 2020. So how old was I in 2020? 36. Minus 31. Was that, like, a compliment supposed to be.
Regina
Well, remember when I met you and I was like, Wait, you're 30? I thought you were 27.
Amanda Hirsch
Thank you. But I really think, like, whatever age the success comes. You know what I mean?
Regina
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Just have the only thing I would say, like, if you can try to, like, gross, but, like, manifest what you want in some capacity.
Regina
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Like, for me, I always say it's like, it was on the sidelines. It wasn't my main event ever, but it was like, no, I'm gonna keep working towards this, like, slowly but surely. Like, maybe something will take. Maybe something. But, you know, I saw this really powerful thing I posted yesterday, which also reminds me, because, you know, like, you said, like, you see other people doing shit in any industry at any age. Yeah. You can be like, why are they doing that? And I'm not? Or like, somebody's doing something you want to be doing or some. Somebody's doing something you are doing. Nobody brings what you bring to the table. Regina.
Regina
Booth, girl. No, seriously, I'm getting therapy. I'm getting therapy. Continue.
Amanda Hirsch
Wait. For people that don't know Regina is my assistant.
Regina
Yeah, bitches. Stop fucking sending your resume. I see them. I do get threatened.
Amanda Hirsch
Stop.
Regina
This is my job.
Amanda Hirsch
Clocking. I'm clocking them all.
Regina
No, save.
Amanda Hirsch
Save. You didn't teach Walton how to save stories to drafts.
Regina
I was going to say something, but.
Amanda Hirsch
Anyway, I will give you a compliment before we go.
Regina
Roll the camera.
Amanda Hirsch
Regina is skinny.
Regina
What? Who said that?
Amanda Hirsch
Regina is in the helmet. How long have you worked with me?
Regina
A year and a half. We're so cute.
Amanda Hirsch
She's literally like a little sister.
Regina
Yeah, I know. And I. We're.
Amanda Hirsch
She's literally like. She's like, part of the fan. Like, she could easily just, like, be wherever we are, like, the most. Like, she annoy you? Annoy me? Like a little sister. Which I asked you today. I was like, do you annoy your friends?
Regina
I know everyone my ex boyfriend's like, is annoyed by me. My friends, my parents.
Amanda Hirsch
But it's really special that you find somebody on the street who can fit right into your life.
Regina
And it's like, seriously, the only advice I have ever. Be annoying guys. Like, that's how I got it. Be annoying. Well, by the way, stalker, but not crazy.
Amanda Hirsch
Her be annoying, period. That's how I got it. That's how I got It.
Regina
That's why when you say it, I'm like.
Amanda Hirsch
You're like, interesting. But it's really about. And we say annoying people. That persistence. Yeah, I know you don't vocab here. We heard chef last week. I'm eslab.
Regina
I'm eso.
Amanda Hirsch
And you forgetting that low. No, I would want a higher vocab, too. I also have to enunciate my words more. Like, a lot of times I talk so fast that I'm like. You miss a syllable, you know?
Regina
But it's like in Spanish, too. Like, you talk so fast because you're just like, right. You know?
Amanda Hirsch
But in Spanish, it just pops off better.
Regina
But here you're like, Zen.
Amanda Hirsch
Like, because he made me zen.
Regina
No, it's gonna go home and he's gonna be yelling. You're like, hey, angel.
Amanda Hirsch
First of all, you know that I'm like that. You've told me that before.
Regina
It's like, the guys, seriously, if we could get Andy in a camera in Amanda's home, it's the craziest thing ever. Noah will be yelling about, like, the most random thing ever, and Amanda is just, like, not even flinching. But you know what? I think that's, like, the best thing that you can do as a parent is be so patient. And, like, it's. But it's crazy, guys. She's only patient with her children. That is it again.
Amanda Hirsch
Well, that's good, though, at least.
Regina
Boundaries.
Amanda Hirsch
Wait, can we talk about speaking of Andy in a camera? That post that I saw, that was like. Because I was just at Aaron Lishi's bread. She just had the baby. Lindsay was there. Which, by the way, the fact that Lindsay was there ain't no mistake. Ombre. Because Lindsay is a smart ass. Okay?
Regina
Yup.
Amanda Hirsch
Lindsay, don't forget she had Hub House pr.
Regina
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Now, Aaron's not a dumbass. She's my friend. I love her. She's smart. She's a businesswoman.
Regina
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
This might be the meeting of the minds of lesbie friends. And we could be the new Rooney.
Regina
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
And so I saw somebody post, because I like, post a picture with Lindsay and the baby, and they were like, Amanda and Linds for Rooney.
Regina
And let me tell you something, guys, she's never going to do it. But trust and believe. I remind her about it every day. And I will start the rumor.
Amanda Hirsch
Trust and believe.
Regina
I will start the rumor. Because I want to be right there being like.
Amanda Hirsch
Well, you know, the thing is that. That I love about Lindsay because I want to be right there. So, you guys, if Regina ends up fired. You know why? You'll be like, oh, the thirst.
Regina
Well, but this is what your problem. You're not thirsty.
Amanda Hirsch
Like not thirsty.
Regina
You're not thirsty.
Amanda Hirsch
I'm like, that's our cnf.
Regina
Like, this is what I do when we go to events and stuff. I have my index finger on her back, pushing her to say hi to people. Because I know these people know her. And she tells me, she's like, oh, I talk to her on Instagram all the time. But she's like, but I don't want to go say hi. I'm embarrassed. So then me being a crazy Latina.
Amanda Hirsch
Being you talking about to meet a Jerry Seinfeld.
Regina
Guys, she knows the wife. They talk all the time on Instagram. Like, you can go say hi.
Amanda Hirsch
You did that to me. To Jerry. You did that to me when Jerry Seinfeld. Jess Seinfeld, who I do talk to all the time and I love her and I believe she likes me. They were saying with Bethany Frankel chewing tuna salad in their face.
Regina
Amazing. Gorgeous.
Amanda Hirsch
What literally is like, you in my head.
Regina
No, in my.
Amanda Hirsch
You had the tuna salad brisket.
Regina
Guys, Jerry Seinfeld talking to Brenny Frankel was the craziest thing I've ever seen.
Amanda Hirsch
And then I get like a. Yeah, I pushed her.
Regina
I pushed her.
Amanda Hirsch
And then I, and then I find myself in this four way convo. Me, Bethany Frankel. She gave us some tea. Jaz and, and, and Jerry.
Regina
Nala and then me. Like we would. I wouldn't let her leave until I went up to go talk. Talk to Adam Sandler and like tell him about the podcast. Guys, I'm crazy, but I'm crazy for the business, you know?
Amanda Hirsch
No, she was like. And then Adam Sandler. Let me tell you guys before we get in this into the interview, Adam Sandler and I happened to be at like three places that. Right. We saw him at the premiere and then I saw him somewhere else.
Regina
I saw him at sushi.
Amanda Hirsch
He was just like all over recently. Cuz he's. Oh, I saw him at the SNL50 concert that I went to that I didn't get a guy that everybody comes up to. Like, you'll see a bunch of celebs. For some reason, everybody flocks Adam Sandler. I kind of just feel bad for him that it's like, he's a nice guy, so he's not going to say no. He'll take another picture. Another picture. So. And Virginia was like, we need to get him on the pad. Like, I'm going up to him. And I was like, no, you're not. You're not. You're not.
Regina
What would a normal person do? Not that I didn't even ask. I didn't want a picture. I was talking business.
Amanda Hirsch
Let you. Love your audacity and your chutzpah, but I'm not going to let you pretend that I'm this, like, nimble, little shy person. Okay? I got here from being fucking daring and having chutzpah and putting myself in rooms and fucking being annoying.
Regina
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
But I don't want to look like a loser, if that's what you're referring to.
Regina
And I seriously, please, like, what do you mean? Guys, anytime I'm trying to do something, like, ever heard of not skinny, but fat?
Walton Goggins
And it works.
Regina
I was at the box. Was like, with that guy from Summer House even. Yeah. And I was like, I'm Amanda's assistant. Like, guys, if you have something, use it. Like, you don't never know what happens.
Amanda Hirsch
And if you find yourself, fire. Question. Why did. Okay, anyway, you guys. Oh, my God, these glasses give you a little bit of. A little bit of a twist.
Regina
Should we go ski?
Amanda Hirsch
We should go ski. And we should jump right into my conversation with Walton Goggins.
Regina
So proud of you.
Amanda Hirsch
I'm. I love him.
Regina

Walton Goggins
Are we full of air? Wait a minute. Where are we right now? I should do it right here. Check that out. And I do my own sound.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah, I was going to say, you do give, like, musician vibes. Have you ever dabbled?
Walton Goggins
Dabbled. Dabbled, yes. But. But for my ears. For no one else's ears. But, you know, there was a time where, you know, I. Three chords in the truth. Three chords at a version of the truth.
Amanda Hirsch
Right.
Walton Goggins
Was in my repertoire. Yeah. I pick a little guitar, but really just. Just for myself.
Amanda Hirsch
It looks like you do.
Walton Goggins
Oh, yeah. I just give off that energy.
Amanda Hirsch
Right. Like, in a good way.
Walton Goggins
But we're like, like more of kind.
Amanda Hirsch
Of like jamming out. Jamming. Jam.
Walton Goggins
Like a jam band.
Amanda Hirsch
A jam sesh.
Walton Goggins
A jam band. So not. I mean, is it Zeppelin? Is it the Rolling Stones?
Amanda Hirsch
It's Rolling Stones.
Walton Goggins
Okay.
Amanda Hirsch
It's maybe like, Johnny Depp has a band. Like, you would have a band.
Walton Goggins
Johnny Depp. Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah, you would have a band.
Walton Goggins
Okay, fantastic.
Amanda Hirsch
We love it. We just made up a whole story.
Walton Goggins
That's what I'm gonna do. And they're all gonna be wearing goggle glasses. The name of my band is Walton Goggins. Goggle. Goggle Garage Band.
Amanda Hirsch
That, by the way, was so hard for me to say. I have to be honest. I. I might have, like, my brain can be dyslexic sometimes, so I might have twisted it and did, like, Goggins Google. I was like, oh, it's a Google. Yeah, Google. I thought. I. I went to put them on. I was like, am. Do I have to press something?
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Like, am I in the Google?
Walton Goggins
That's the 2.0 version. Yeah. It's a screen.
Amanda Hirsch
You know what else is coming out? That little twang of yours is coming out.
Walton Goggins
It is coming out. Yeah. It is when I'm tired. It comes out when I've been drinking and today I have been drinking and I'm tired. So today, you know I'm joking.
Amanda Hirsch
Walton Goggins is here, you guys. Huge, huge, huge, huge. I'm so excited that you're here.
Walton Goggins
I'm so excited to be here.
Amanda Hirsch
And you said, you said you're so tired and.
Walton Goggins
No, I say that like, as a. We've just, just kind of been at it. We're in the middle of doing Fallout Season 2, and it's no joke, you know, that those days are. It's a, it's a, it's a heavy lift in the, in the best way, but, you know.
Amanda Hirsch
Where do you film that?
Walton Goggins
Well, we're filming this season in, in and around. I mean, in Los Angeles. You know, we're based kind of out in LA and, And then spend a lot of time out in the desert. We were in New York for season one. New York and Namibia, but we're out west right now.
Amanda Hirsch
And you're based like in. Around New York?
Walton Goggins
Well, I am now, yeah. I was in Los Angeles for 30 years and my wife is from LA and son born in Los Angeles. And, and then like so many people, we decided to, to just do something different in the pandemic. And, and we always.
Amanda Hirsch
The pandemic times, really.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And how you liking it first year? I love it.
Amanda Hirsch
Really.
Walton Goggins
We. We have a place. We have 125 acres upstate and then an apartment here in the city. But. But we live upstate and I, I love it.
Amanda Hirsch
And the winners.
Walton Goggins
Well, you know, it's not nothing against Chicago, you know, or Toronto.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
But those can be really tough. I don't find winters here to be that brutal.
Amanda Hirsch
They are.
Walton Goggins
I think they're very.
Amanda Hirsch
I mean, it's bad, but they've gotten much less worse. Yeah, with the help of some.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, with the help of some emissions, it got.
Amanda Hirsch
I grew up here and I used to be wrapped from head to toe like the gloves I once bought, like a face mask. The, the, the, the goggles would be good. Like the whole. I would be covered. I wouldn't care about what I look like now. I could be like a peacoat.
Walton Goggins
Right.
Amanda Hirsch
Don't even need a scarf.
Walton Goggins
Right.
Amanda Hirsch
It's a different kind of thing.
Walton Goggins
Yeah. Yeah. I just find that the seasons here are so gentle and nature on the east coast is certainly in the Hudson Valley is not so dissimilar than Cotswolds, you know, in England. And, and it's one of the few places in America that has that feel. And I, I, I, I love it. So there's a season for everything.
Amanda Hirsch
Never going back to la.
Walton Goggins
Well, I'm, I'm in Los Angeles now.
Amanda Hirsch
Now you get to go. But like, to live.
Walton Goggins
I don't know the answer to that question, but I never say never about anything. But I, I, I, I hope anyway, that there's a chapter beyond the chapter that we're living right now.
Amanda Hirsch
I love that.
Walton Goggins
I think I would like to keep. We've talked about this quite a bit, and we like this hub, you know, but, but our spokes will continue to, to move in different directions. And there's a, I think a chapter in my life where, you know, I want to be 15 minutes from the Mediterranean for, you know, six or seven months out of the year. And so we'll see. I don't know. Life is short and life is long.
Amanda Hirsch
I love that. I love not knowing. I also pretend to be like that, but I end up staying in the same place. Like, who knows where I'll be next year, and then I'm just in the same place. But I love pretending that it might change, you know?
Walton Goggins
Yeah, right. Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
At least I'm like, putting it out there.
Walton Goggins
And where is that place?
Amanda Hirsch
New York. I've been here.
Walton Goggins
Right.
Amanda Hirsch
You know, I'm like, maybe, who knows? I can't sign a lease for two years.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, that's true.
Amanda Hirsch
Never know where I'm going to be.
Walton Goggins
Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
How old is your son?
Walton Goggins
He is 14.
Amanda Hirsch
14. So he's good to travel with. Like, he's.
Walton Goggins
Oh, he's the best.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
But he's always been good to travel with. Yeah. Just, I mean, ever since he was a little kid, it's like he would much rather be. He would e rather be at home or on the road. To go out at home is really not his thing. But he's a, he's a great traveling buddy, and we're actually taking a, A huge trip to Mongolia together.
Amanda Hirsch
You and him?
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
A solo. Wow, that's so special.
Walton Goggins
It's special. He's special.
Amanda Hirsch
I love that. I have two boys. I'm still. I do. I do.
Walton Goggins
You have two boys?
Amanda Hirsch
Two boys. Just boys around me.
Walton Goggins
What?
Amanda Hirsch
They're wild. It's five and 10 months. The five is like.
Walton Goggins
Months.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
Wow.
Amanda Hirsch
The five is, like, at that stage of just testing. Yeah, Testing.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
You get all these gentle parenting reels that are like he's having a tantrum. Get on your knees.
Walton Goggins
Right? Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Think, like, we didn't have that back in the day.
Walton Goggins
No, no, no.
Amanda Hirsch
You know. No, you just winged it.
Walton Goggins
Yeah. You winged it.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah, but look, you're saying he's a great kid, and here I am looking at these reels, you know, trying to get down on the knees, link twice, whisper whatever, until I go crazy. It's not working, let me tell you.
Walton Goggins
It's not working.
Amanda Hirsch
It's not.
Walton Goggins
Listen, let me talk to him. I'm just gonna get it.
Amanda Hirsch
I feel like there, first of all, I feel like there is something. You know what? I. And I do blame myself. Like, my energy is very, you know.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Like, you kind of. And your vibe is very, like, calming. So, so maybe you just created a, that kind of vibe and energy.
Walton Goggins
I, I, I hope, I hope so. And I've never, I've never, you know, I've been a parent now for 14 years, and I've never had a, like an, an argument with my child ever. No. I mean, there was a moment when he was being, you know, an asshole.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
You know, for a period of time. And we were. His mom, my wife had to go out of town for a couple of days, and we had a conversation about that, you know, and about two different roads that he could go down, you know, and one, your life would look like this, and the other, your life would look like this. And, you know, your decision, this is like, maybe the first big decision you're ever going to make.
Amanda Hirsch
And what age was this?
Walton Goggins
That he was 10.
Amanda Hirsch
Okay.
Walton Goggins
And it was just, you know, very measured and very calm and, And I said, I just think tonight is a huge, huge night in your life. And he's like, what do you mean, Dad? I said, well, you know, it's a big choice. You know, you've, you know, this is kind of how you've been acting, and, and you could continue to act that way, and this is probably what your life is going to look like, or you could wake up with gratitude, you know, and really look around and be thankful for your life and, and participate in our life as a family, as an active member, and your life could look like this. And he said, well, I know the answer. So while you can't know the answer, like, that's what's so great about growing up, Right. You have to think about this answer, because this, your decision is going to reverberate throughout the rest of your life. And he took some time, and he started to talk. No, you got to go to sleep. Got to sleep on it. And then I'll do whatever you want. And he woke up in the middle of the night and he said, dada. I thought about it. I've really thought about it. And I want to wake up with a life of gratitude every day. I promise. That's what I want. I want to be that guy. And I just looked at him and, you know, crying like everybody else, but really, I just looked at him and said, wow, you are as wise as I thought you were. You are that guy. Wow. Good feet. Let me shake your hand.
Amanda Hirsch
And you know, powerful worked on me. I want to be that guy.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, right?
Amanda Hirsch
Saving that.
Walton Goggins
Be that guy.
Amanda Hirsch
I'm glad we have it on video because I'm. That's what. These are the reels that we need in life. We don't have much of your time today, and thank you for giving any of your time today because you are just. Do you know the Goggins girlies? I mean, have you heard of them?
Walton Goggins
I would be better for me if it came from you.
Amanda Hirsch
Okay. There are. I mean, you're just. I can't open my Instagram. The Tick Tock. Like, everybody's really obsessed with you.
Walton Goggins
That's very.
Amanda Hirsch
In this very special way. Like, it's not just, you know, a thirst trap moment or a. It's like everything. People just appreciate you for being you, for your work, for your style, for your vibe, for the past things that you've done. So it's an iconic. Do you feel this moment? Kind of like, are you reveling in it?
Walton Goggins
Well, do I feel this moment? I feel that there's an energy out there that, that is one of, like this undulation of love. Do you know?
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
And that. And it feels really, really good and, and, and I, I hope anyway that it, that I'm doing the best I can to reciprocate it because it's with such affection and, and this genuine gratitude that I have for, you know, all of the support from so many people from various walks of life and.
Amanda Hirsch
Right.
Walton Goggins
And I, I love doing what I do. You know what? I love being a human being.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
You know what I mean? I do. I love life. And I am. I am an intense guy and I'm a relaxed guy. I'm like all of those things. And when you're in like the White Lotus and was really difficult, but, you know, and the best way and on the other side of it now, on the precipice of it being released is that's a, That's a relief, you know, and a chance to kind of just be a civilian again for a little while and feel the same Thing about fallout and the same thing about.
Amanda Hirsch
And righteous gemstones out for the last year. The final season, is it?
Walton Goggins
Yeah, the final season. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so, yeah, I'm just grateful that. That so many people are connected. Yeah. Connecting and being on this.
Amanda Hirsch
Why do you say that White Lotus was difficult?
Walton Goggins
No, difficult. What. I mean, difficult emotionally, just because of the. The. What this particular guy, Rick Hatchet, was going through?
Amanda Hirsch
Yes.
Walton Goggins
Not difficult, you know, working environment.
Amanda Hirsch
Oh, gotcha.
Walton Goggins
No, difficult. Just emotionally.
Amanda Hirsch
Are you anything like Rick? Like, do you have. Did you relate to him on any level?
Walton Goggins
Yeah, I am. Yeah. I. Yeah, I. I relate to every. I relate to Baby Billy. You know, I relate to. I relate to every character that I've ever played. I think every actor would say that. Yeah, you know, on some level, you have to have a connection. But, yeah, Rick is. I understand where he is, you know, mentally and spiritually. Yeah, no, because I, too, have been there, and I think most of us have. Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
I think, first of all, physically, obviously, you're him, but the style. Like, my husband watches White Lotus with me, and he doesn't watch. Like, we have different TV lives. This is one where we can kind of come together.
Walton Goggins
Oh, lovely.
Amanda Hirsch
And he loves the style. Like, he's like. He dresses so cool on the show. Right. And I'm like. But you do two irl. Like, you have incredible style. Did you like the clothes?
Walton Goggins
Well, you know what? We. We talked about all of that at the beginning. I was. I was pretty early in the casting kind of process when they. They offered me. I don't know if I was number one, but I think maybe number two or something like that. And with that came a conversation with Mike that was essentially, we don't. We don't know who this guy is, meaning, like, how he presents himself in the world, you know, And. And Alex, our costume designer, who's brilliant, has been with the show from the very beginning. You know, she had some ideas, but she said, I really don't know either. You. And I said, you tell me. And I said, I know exactly who this person is.
Amanda Hirsch
You said that.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, I've seen people like this kind of move through the world, and I wasn't really interested in playing an idea of what this guy is, but a very specific version of who this guy is in the world. And so.
Amanda Hirsch
So you brought a lot of the idea.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, I just. Just said, you know, thanks, you know, Salvador And. And Gonzo journalism, you know, and, like, it's. It's a mix kind of between the two. And. And he's Sex. Sexy and. Yeah, he has the nice things that he has. He couldn't afford. Afford to replace them if he. If he lost them. But, you know, there are times in his life when he can buy a nice watch or.
Amanda Hirsch
Did you take anything home?
Walton Goggins
I did.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We got this. He got me a Tiffany lighter.
Amanda Hirsch
Now I should go back and look.
Walton Goggins
Yeah. Specific kind of silver, beautiful Tiffany lighter. And I took that.
Amanda Hirsch
Oh, I love that. Is there anybody else that you could see yourself playing in the cast? Like. Well, you have the. The accent going for you, which they worked so hard on in the Ratliff family.
Walton Goggins
Oh, right.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah, Yeah, I know. Did you take any inspo. Because I know they took. There was a whole story that they took from this show called Southern Charm. It's like a reality TV show. They went wild on Bravo.
Walton Goggins
Right. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Do take in. Spoke for Rick from anywhere specific.
Walton Goggins
No, just my imagination.
Amanda Hirsch
Just your imagination. I had so many questions about his decisions. Because you said in episode seven that you felt like you got closure. You said to Frank.
Walton Goggins
I think you did.
Amanda Hirsch
You did. Yeah. Like, as a viewer, I was like, he did.
Walton Goggins
Well, I think so. To the degree. And one can get closure to the degree that one is able to not act on an impulse. Right. And so, yeah, everything's in baby steps and, you know, we'll see where the. Where the story goes, where the next step.
Amanda Hirsch
I mean. Yeah.
Walton Goggins
But I really believe. Yeah. And that in that moment, he transcended. Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
What was it like acting with one of your BFFs, Sam Rockwell?
Walton Goggins
You know, it's just. Just that. One of my BFFs.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
That's the best. Yeah. Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Getting through that scene with the.
Walton Goggins
It was extraordinary.
Amanda Hirsch
Everything you guys did together was just such a pleasure to watch. It was a pleasure for both of you on screen.
Walton Goggins
It was a pleasure to do.
Amanda Hirsch
It could have taken forever. Like, have that just be the story you both, you know?
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
I need your. You should do. You know, you should do a collab with. Because I know you're such a fan of small businesses and kind of entrepreneurship, like some collab with the comm app.
Walton Goggins
I did. It's out right now.
Amanda Hirsch
Shut up.
Walton Goggins
Yeah. Read you a bedtime story.
Amanda Hirsch
Shut up.
Walton Goggins
I can put you to sleep right now.
Amanda Hirsch
No, tell me the truth.
Walton Goggins
It came out 10 years ago.
Regina

Amanda Hirsch
I didn't even know that.
Walton Goggins
Yeah. Yeah. It's a story about a yard sale.

Walton Goggins
Well, I have. Yeah, I have talked about it just in relationship to the. The love that I have for entrepreneurs.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
And small business owners.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
Which led to this collaboration with GoDaddy to, to go into business with them and, and, and make these, you know, this, these goggles. And you go into this kind of Business adventure together and because I desperately believe in what it is that they do as a company. And yeah, I've had four or five small businesses in my life and I believe that. And, and the ethos of GoDaddy and what they are doing for dreamers and for people that.
Amanda Hirsch
Well, for people that don't know GoDaddy has like the, that's where I bought my like, what's it called? Domain.
Walton Goggins
Domain name.
Amanda Hirsch
Right.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
So how did they.
Walton Goggins
Well, they have, you know. Yes, they, they do that. That's what kind of one, one of the things, One of the things for. But, but they are kind of like a full service company for young entrepreneurs who want to start out in business but aren't really sure how to go about it. And they have this new product called GoDaddy Arrow which is this, this AI tool that will do everything from. Help you build your, your website, to help you generate copy, to populate that website in order to speak to your audience, to design your logo, to generate social content with a calendar that allows you to populate, you know, these channel Instagram and all the rest of it. You know, with a, with a real presence so that you don't have to think about it. I have an Instagram account. I don't have really anything else. I still feel the pressure to post something, but I'm not.
Amanda Hirsch
Because you have highlights, which I love. You're taking advantage of the whole like, you have like highlights. You have a, A Rick and Chelsea highlight.
Walton Goggins
Right.
Amanda Hirsch
Oregon Frank highlight. Are you doing that?
Walton Goggins
Yeah, yeah. As opposed to like mean, do I have someone?
Amanda Hirsch
You're right. Do you have someone help you? You do your social media.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, all of it. But I, and I. And if you really look at it, it's, it's, it's pretty simple. I know like how to make like, like white letters at a black box. You know, I mean I just kind of learned like something new the other day. I just learned that. Oh I could, I could put these thoughts down now and save this as a draft. Yeah, that's cool.
Amanda Hirsch
Is a great.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
By the way, don't feel bad about just finding out because I do that. This for a living.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
And it took me a while to. I was like, wait, I don't need to just post it right away. I can save it for later.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, you can save it for later. Yeah. But if you feel inspired in a moment and you. And contraction, don't post it because you know you would get sued or.
Amanda Hirsch
But don't if you're doing it on Stories, it does expire.
Walton Goggins
Not only does it expire, like I, I just tried to do a sample of that and wound up posting the story. You know, it wouldn't allow, I don't know yet how to save a draft and a story. I can't really figure it out.
Amanda Hirsch
I'll show you after.
Walton Goggins
Hey, fantastic.
Amanda Hirsch
Great.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Okay, so Instagram, you've got figured out mostly. How did it come about? So you had this idea and then.
Walton Goggins
They knew, they were looking, they were looking to partner with someone that they knew were, had a foot in that, in that space that were, that was really interested in entrepreneurship and that was passionate about small business. And they, they picked me. I have a business, like without knowing the idea first or they said, what do you want? What would you want to do? And I said, oh well, eyewear really wanted to do. Yeah, I've had, I mean, I have a number of ideas. Right. I mean I, I imagine I live in storytelling 24 7. That is kind of my life. But, but you know, ideas for businesses are kind of always in tandem with what I do for a living. I have a spirits company now. I swear, if I hit this microphone one more time, it's okay, right? How about now? How about, how's that sound? What about this? I'm gonna do this interview.
Amanda Hirsch
I'm just saying I'm not hitting it, so I don't know what's happening. Well, you know what, you're talking with your hand. You're, you're a storyteller.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, yeah, I'm a robot. Gesticulate. Yeah, that's what I do.
Amanda Hirsch
Do you want us to move it?
Walton Goggins
No, no, no, it's fine. I was just.
Amanda Hirsch
Well, because I was wondering like they look like, right?
Walton Goggins
So they, they said, you know, what do you want to do? I said, this, this eyewear, this, these, these goggles and this experience that I had and at a ski resort not too far from my house upstate and, and they said, well, okay, that's a, that's a great idea. I mean it's. Eyewear is one of the most fashion forward accessories that we can wear. It's what people see first. And they said, yeah, okay, that we can make that work. You know, let's, let's partner on that. And then we, we set out to do this and you know, here we are. Here you are seven months, six months later.
Amanda Hirsch
And how involved were you with like the design, everything like that?
Walton Goggins
Heavily involved. Heavily, Heavily involved. Yeah, with every color, every band, every name. I mean I, all of it.
Amanda Hirsch
I love that.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
And they're so. I mean, you really don't see anything like this. It does make me feel like I.
Walton Goggins
See anything like this.
Amanda Hirsch
I need to go somewhere. Well, you know, or you're saying walk down.
Walton Goggins
It's like, what, what is it? Well, it's a lot of fun, isn't it? You know, and kids that wear them to school get a huge kick out of it.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah.
Walton Goggins
And adults that wear them to a fish concert, you know, or, or, you know, doing a sport. But really they just bring a lot of joy to people. That's what I found.
Amanda Hirsch
Yeah, you're right. When I open them at home, my son, I was like, say away. Like, I just knew he would see it as like. Yeah, I wanted to. You know, there's just something about it that the kids would love because. Colorful and big and fun to play with and experiment with.
Walton Goggins
Yeah. And so, yeah, I'm having a. I'm having a good time.
Amanda Hirsch
And at the end of the day, what's wild that I've also heard about you is like all of this, which you've been doing this for forever, for decades, Right? It all started because of an American Express.
Walton Goggins
Yeah, well, I mean, you know, it was an offer in college, Right. The way that you get an offer for a credit card. And there was one, you know, for American Express that came in the mail. And with this particular offer, if you, if you got the card, applied for the card, you would get two round trip tickets for $99 east of the Mississippi or $199 west of the Mississippi. And this was back when, I don't know, an airplane ticket from Atlanta to Los Angeles. It was like $1,200 or something. It wasn't cheap. And I just looked at this as a sign that I'm gonna go west, young man. And it was really getting that card and getting these two round trip tickets that gave me permission or the confidence to. To leave college and go to college. Grand life, adventure.
Amanda Hirsch
What, what, what year were you at in college?
Walton Goggins
Freshman.
Amanda Hirsch
Oh, freshman.
Walton Goggins
It was my first, you know, three or four days at school. I was always going to do something.
Amanda Hirsch
You knew it.
Walton Goggins
Yeah.
Amanda Hirsch
Deep down.
Walton Goggins
Yeah. But this was, this offer really gave me the opportunity to, to, to leap a big leap instead of baby steps.
Amanda Hirsch
It's so different today. Like, that makes me think, you know, how, like today with social media and everything, just people's roads to success are.
Walton Goggins
Just look different, I think just roads in general look different, you know, And I. What, what is success? I mean, there are, there are metrics for. For every type of success, I suppose. But God, it's in the time is is so fast and so fleeting that, you know, if. If the metric that I like to use is are you having fun?
Amanda Hirsch
Are you having fun? And are you having fun?
Walton Goggins
I'm having a ball.
Amanda Hirsch
I fudgeing. Love it.
