Don't believe when people tell you you cannot recover. You absolutely can and will recover from ocd. With daily work and a continuous reduction, anybody can recover. There is not one doctor that will diagnose a patient with OCD if the patient doesn't do any rumination, any compulsions, or any avoidances. So what stands in the way of you and full recovery is those three types of behaviors. Maybe for some people they don't even do compul physical compulsion, so it would just be the two behaviors. Maybe they don't do avoidances. So maybe just the one behavior, just the rumination and it's a gradual, continuous, focused reduction. You can do this. Emergency session is available. Podcast: OCD Recovery
Host: Ali Greymond, OCD Specialist & Author
Date: June 11, 2026
In this episode, Ali Greymond delivers an empowering message to those struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): full recovery is not only possible but achievable with consistent, daily effort. Ali counters the narrative that OCD recovery is unattainable, drawing on her extensive professional experience and personal journey to offer hope and practical advice.
Ali outlines the three main behaviors that keep OCD present:
Crucially, she notes that for some, only one or two of these may be present.
“There is not one doctor that will diagnose a patient with OCD if the patient doesn’t do any rumination, any compulsions, or any avoidances.” (00:14)
Point of empowerment: If these behaviors are targeted and eliminated, OCD loses its grip.
Not everyone struggles with all three behaviors; some might only deal with rumination or avoidance.
This means recovery is highly individual, and the focus should be on identifying and gradually reducing whichever behaviors are relevant.
