Jenna Fischer
Hello, everybody. Welcome to another Friday chitchat.
Angela Kinsey
Hi, there.
Jenna Fischer
I've been holding on to something for a little while. Not that long. But as my bff, it has been really hard for me not to tell you this. Angela.
Angela Kinsey
What?
Jenna Fischer
I wrote it down because I want to get it right.
Angela Kinsey
Okay.
Jenna Fischer
Sam, Cassie, Angela, go on.
Cassie Jerkins
Yes.
Jenna Fischer
Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.
Angela Kinsey
Have you been watching the Mandalorian?
Sam Kieffer
Is this Andor?
Jenna Fischer
No. No.
Angela Kinsey
You're not talking about Baby Yoda?
Jenna Fischer
Oh, my gosh. I am so sad right now.
Sam Kieffer
I'm sorry. Can I have it one more time in the same delivery?
Jenna Fischer
Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.
Cassie Jerkins
Paddington.
Angela Kinsey
No, no, no.
Sam Kieffer
It's Paddington 2.
Jenna Fischer
It's a movie. It's a About friendship and a quest and adventure.
Angela Kinsey
It's Lord of the Rings.
Jenna Fischer
It's Lord of the Rings.
Angela Kinsey
Yes. And he's talking about the Hobbit.
Jenna Fischer
Yes.
Angela Kinsey
Yes.
Jenna Fischer
Because Frodo has to throw the ring into the fire.
Angela Kinsey
You watched it?
Jenna Fischer
I watched it.
Angela Kinsey
Oh, my God. That's amazing.
Sam Kieffer
Wait, when did you watch it? What did you think?
Jenna Fischer
I love it.
Sam Kieffer
Yes.
Jenna Fischer
I love it. And, lady, as this movie is unfolding. I know. I said I watched the first seven minutes, and the first seven minutes is like being in a classroom. And it pushed all my buttons. But Sam told me that it was like the Edge. And Sam told me that it was about best friendship. And, yes, it is. It really, really is. And so I stuck with it and I watched it and I loved it.
Sam Kieffer
So much I could cry right now. This is incredible.
Jenna Fischer
And, Lady, I see why you love this movie. Okay, I made notes. First of all, elaborate birthday party. The biggest birthday party in the Shire. Does the fireworks.
Angela Kinsey
Lady.
Jenna Fischer
Do they know how to throw a birthday?
Angela Kinsey
They sure do.
Sam Kieffer
The big dragon firework that comes in.
Angela Kinsey
Yes, yes.
Jenna Fischer
Wax seal on an envelope.
Angela Kinsey
I know, I know.
Jenna Fischer
There's a wax seal. Also, the hobbits, on their journey, they eat giant hunks of cheese.
Angela Kinsey
Yes.
Jenna Fischer
Just handfuls of cheese. Y.
Sam Kieffer
They have second breakfast.
Cassie Jerkins
Second breakfast.
Jenna Fischer
Yes. And there are so many Matrix and Game of Thrones crossovers in this movie. It's like there's one casting office for all these people.
Angela Kinsey
It's the mother of casting.
Jenna Fischer
I loved it. That's my share.
Sam Kieffer
Who's your favorite character?
Jenna Fischer
Oh, maybe Sam.
Cassie Jerkins
Yeah.
Angela Kinsey
Oh, yeah.
Sam Kieffer
Yep. He's the truest friend.
Jenna Fischer
The truant, when he jumps in the water, when Frodo's trying to row away.
Angela Kinsey
I know.
Sam Kieffer
Is that the movie where he gives Mr. Frodo the speech? Where he's like, if you're not strong, I'll carry you.
Angela Kinsey
Oh, and he's crying.
Jenna Fischer
Yeah, I don't.
Cassie Jerkins
I don't think so.
Jenna Fischer
Is it maybe. I'm on Two Towers now, everybody. I couldn't stop. I am obsessed.
Angela Kinsey
Okay, so do you agree the orcs are scary?
Jenna Fischer
Lady, not only are they scary, they're big. They're terrifying. It's very. This movie is very gruesome in a way I wasn't expecting. But here is the thing. This movie is basically like a quest survivalist zombie film set in a fantasy world that's is like all the things that I love.
Sam Kieffer
It's got some Terminator too. There's being chased by this thing that can't be stopped.
Angela Kinsey
Yes.
Jenna Fischer
You know, I mean, yeah. The only thing is, like, I have to remember all the names of things.
Angela Kinsey
But there are a lot of names and terminology. It's already become easier over time.
Jenna Fischer
It's already become easier. They're very good at repeating it.
Angela Kinsey
I'm sorry. How can I say? How old are you?
Jenna Fischer
51.
Angela Kinsey
Today's the day. 51.
Sam Kieffer
Welcome. Welcome to the Shire.
Angela Kinsey
Welcome to the Shire, Jenna. Welcome to the Gathering.
Jenna Fischer
I'm so excited.
Angela Kinsey
To the brotherhood of the Ring. I can't believe you're here, Jenna. I really can't. Also, you guys know that when Jack, our son, watched these movies, he took it on himself. And he was a young kid to learn Elfish.
Jenna Fischer
Oh, yeah.
Angela Kinsey
And he also asked for his birthday for a Legolas wig.
Cassie Jerkins
Love it.
Angela Kinsey
And we had a little cubby by the front door where we would keep like volleyball and flip flops. And there was a wig tucked in there that would be spilling out right as you walked through the front door.
Sam Kieffer
You keep your umbrellas, your bow and arrows, you keep them by the door.
Angela Kinsey
And a wig. Yes. And I would come home many days from work and he'd be in the front yard with his suction cup, bow and arrow and his Legolas.
Jenna Fischer
I mean, just what a delightful ragtag group of fellas.
Angela Kinsey
I know.
Jenna Fischer
On a quest.
Cassie Jerkins
On a quest, my friend. For his birthday, we got him a cameo from Sean Astin, who plays Sam.
Angela Kinsey
Yeah.
Cassie Jerkins
And it was the most feel good cameo. Like it inspired all of us, not just our friend. But he was like, you have friends in the world that believe in you. Happy birthday.
Angela Kinsey
That's so great. Elijah Wood did a video for Jack. I was working in Vancouver and he was on a show there, and we were staying in the same sort of like furnished apartment building. And we would all go out Together and hang out. We went to a bar called like the Crow and watched Game of Thrones together. And he did a video for Jack wishing him happy birthday.
Sam Kieffer
When I met both of them dressed as Big Titty Gandalf at LA Comic Con four years ago, I came around the corner and it was their first time seeing me, and Elijah Wood looked at me and he went, sure. Sean Astin stopped me and he goes, explain. And I gave it like 30 seconds, like, oh, it's a meme. And he goes, great. And then it was fine in his brain.
Angela Kinsey
I remember those pictures of you, Sam.
Cassie Jerkins
Yep.
Jenna Fischer
Well, that was my Friday chitchat share, guys. I've been waiting to talk about it.
Angela Kinsey
You guys know in New Zealand, they have recreated the Shire. And you can go, you know, you.
Sam Kieffer
Can walk into the house. You can walk the path that they walked. It's like over a thousand miles or whatever. You can. You can hike the Lord of the.
Jenna Fischer
Rings path along where they snowy mountains.
Sam Kieffer
No, not through the. And not through the dragons or anything like that.
Jenna Fischer
Okay.
Cassie Jerkins
Safety first.
Sam Kieffer
Yeah, exactly.
Angela Kinsey
Yeah. But that'd be pretty cool. And I feel like I would fit right in in the Shire.
Jenna Fischer
You would.
Angela Kinsey
I wouldn't have to duck going through the door. I don't think I would.
Jenna Fischer
I'll do it with you. I'll go to walk through the Shire with you.
Angela Kinsey
Can we please do an office lady's trip to New Zealand?
Cassie Jerkins
Oh, my gosh.
Jenna Fischer
To walk through the Shire.
Angela Kinsey
Yes.
Sam Kieffer
Yes.
Cassie Jerkins
Yep.
Angela Kinsey
If we had a picture of the four of us maybe with big walking sticks, standing in the sh.
Cassie Jerkins
In his costume, of course.
Angela Kinsey
Oh, yeah, right.
Sam Kieffer
Yeah.
Angela Kinsey
You might have to cover the titties up, too. I think so, because they are fully out.
Jenna Fischer
All right. Does anybody else have a share?
Sam Kieffer
Nothing that can compete with that.
Angela Kinsey
I can't compete with that. I just. Well, okay. I have this observation about Josh.
Jenna Fischer
What is it?
Angela Kinsey
So, you know, he hadn't had a new car in a very long time. We had the minivan with the kids for a long time. It's the people mover, you know, Great car. He finally got a new car. He got a Kia. He loves it so much. And he washes it by himself in the driveway. And he just washed it. And then I guess all the trees and all the things along the driveway are now blooming. And every day his car is covered in these little yellow pollen things.
Jenna Fischer
Yeah, yeah. It's that time of year for sure.
Angela Kinsey
And so do you know what he did? What? He went and he bought a floofy thing on a stick One of those. Oh, like a duster, but like, special for a car.
Sam Kieffer
Like a giant one.
Angela Kinsey
Like a giant one.
Sam Kieffer
Okay.
Angela Kinsey
And I took a picture of him. He doesn't know I took it out the front window.
Cassie Jerkins
Yes.
Angela Kinsey
Every day, you guys, he's going out there and he's floofing his car. I don't know what it's called. Probably doesn't sound good. But every day he's got to go.
Sam Kieffer
Good for him. He knows what he likes.
Jenna Fischer
Does he want to just get a car cover? Does he want to cover the car?
Sam Kieffer
I think he likes the floofing.
Angela Kinsey
I don't. I mean, the car part of the ritual.
Sam Kieffer
It's therapeutic. Let the man floof.
Angela Kinsey
I guess so. I guess I'm going to let him floof. I mean, he seems a bit obsessive about it and.
Sam Kieffer
Well, he's not like out there under like the full moon doing it, right?
Angela Kinsey
No, he's just doing it several times a day. And I'm like, it's going to get stuff on it, babe. I know it's a new car. I know it's your new shiny thing. We don't have a garage, you know.
Jenna Fischer
So we park outside, which is very common in la. There are not a lot of garages in la.
Angela Kinsey
The way our house was built, I should say was built in 1936. And the way they did the garage was sort of in the back, detached. And the driveway is so narrow. Cause this house was built so long ago that you actually can't fit a modern sized car. I don't know what they fit down this driveway. Like, basically an oversized lawnmower is what fits down it. So anyway, I was wondering, I was gonna put it to the group and Josh listens to the podcast, so he's gonna be like, what the heck you sharing car?
Jenna Fischer
Well, I'm gonna say I love it. You know, I think especially in today's age where I think sometimes as consumers, we can just be like, I don't know, very. What do you call it? Like, just kind of like throwaway culture, you know? I love when someone takes care of something and care with something. It reminds me of my dad. My dad would do that.
Angela Kinsey
This is a very. Yeah, it reminds me. Yeah.
Sam Kieffer
I would say just keep a watch, keep an eye on it, put a flag on it. When it gets 10 times a day, that's too many.
Angela Kinsey
Okay, okay. I'll like start a count.
Sam Kieffer
Yeah, exactly.
Cassie Jerkins
Angela, can you do an experiment for us?
Angela Kinsey
Yeah.
Cassie Jerkins
One day, can you go out and floof the car and see how he.
Jenna Fischer
Reacts like, oh, yes, just take over.
Cassie Jerkins
Like, maybe I'm curious how he'll react. Maybe he'll love it.
Angela Kinsey
Okay, I will.
Jenna Fischer
That's a good question.
Angela Kinsey
He did just buy a very special little, like, it's like a trash bag and a holder that attaches to the back of the seat. And. And he's really adamant. If you have, like, a granola bar wrapper or anything, it's gotta go in that little Caddy attached to the back of the seat. You guys, he's loving this car.
Jenna Fischer
Well, you know what? Because he's ready to have an adult car again.
Angela Kinsey
Yes.
Jenna Fischer
He's ready to have a car that is, like, clean and doesn't have all the little kid crapola in it.
Angela Kinsey
And every time you get in it and turn it on and turn it off, the dashboard lights up and it goes bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. And he's, like, so tickled by it. Any, you guys, that's my Friday chit chat. My husband is real happy with his new car.
Jenna Fischer
I have a second Friday chitchat, which is that I've been fostering some kittens through kitten rescue.
Sam Kieffer
Oh, yeah.
Jenna Fischer
And I need them to be adopted.
Angela Kinsey
Four. You have four kittens?
Jenna Fischer
Four kittens. So we have four kittens, an adult cat, and a dog. And so we have six animals. There's only four people in the house. It's getting crazy. And speaking of, like, zombies, these kittens, it's a little bit like living in a zombie movie where, like, they'll be sleeping, but then if you come upstairs and you, like, creak the floor, all their little heads pop up and then they all, like, slowly start walking towards you. But then they also are like, both four separate things and also one organism. So it's like they can do things. They can cover such a wide area with their mayhem. And then they all come back together, and then they split apart. And then they all come back together.
Sam Kieffer
They're like the fungus in the Last of Us.
Jenna Fischer
Yes.
Angela Kinsey
Yeah.
Jenna Fischer
Yes, exactly. Anyway, please go to kittenrescue.org and fill out a adoption form. Please adopt these kittens.
Angela Kinsey
If you live in Los Angeles, please adopt them.
Jenna Fischer
They're the modern family litter. Their names are Manny, Claire, Haley, and Chinny D, AKA Phil, AKA Chin Dot. He's got a dot on his chin. We started calling him Chin Dot and then that. He's now Ginny D. Okay. And they're all great. They're all a kittens. I just have to please adopt them.
Angela Kinsey
Please adopt them. And also, I think one of the things that tickled me the most about today. We've been in the studio for a while. Is that when Sam said, oh, like the fungus on the last of us? Cassie went, aw, what is that?
Cassie Jerkins
I'm just thinking of these little kittens, you know, being little zombies. I love them.
Angela Kinsey
All right, guys, have a good Friday.

Hosts: Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey
Produced by Audacy
In "Friday Chit Chat 4," Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey kick off the episode with their characteristic warmth and camaraderie. The hosts dive into a heartfelt discussion, setting the tone for an engaging and personal conversation.
The episode begins with Jenna sharing her excitement about finally watching "The Lord of the Rings." After a playful exchange mistaking quotes from various franchises, Jenna reveals, "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future" (00:01). This leads to an in-depth analysis of the film's themes and memorable moments.
Jenna highlights several aspects she loves, such as the elaborate birthday party in the Shire and the iconic "second breakfast" tradition. She shares, "There are so many Matrix and Game of Thrones crossovers in this movie. It's like there's one casting office for all these people" (02:22). The hosts humorously discuss casting overlaps, leading to laughter and playful banter.
The conversation shifts to favorite characters, with Jenna expressing her admiration for Sam, saying, "He's the truest friend" (02:36). They reminisce about pivotal scenes, including Sam's heartfelt promise, "If you're not strong, I'll carry you" (02:51), though Jenna humorously notes she doesn't cry easily.
Jenna and Angela transition to sharing personal stories about their son, Jack, and his deep engagement with "The Lord of the Rings." Angela reminisces, "When Jack... was a young kid to learn Elfish" (04:10), highlighting his dedication and enthusiasm for the franchise. They recount Jack's special birthday gift—a cameo from Sean Astin—and Elijah Wood's heartfelt birthday message. Sam adds a humorous touch by recalling his encounter with Elijah Wood and Sean Astin at LA Comic Con, emphasizing the playful side of fandom (05:48).
The hosts dream about visiting New Zealand to walk through a recreated Shire. Angela muses, "I feel like I would fit right in in the Shire" (06:39), and Jenna eagerly responds, "I'll do it with you" (06:48). They fantasize about a group photo in costume, blending their love for "The Office" with their passion for Middle-earth, adding a touch of humor with Sam's joke about covering up "the titties" (07:07).
Shifting gears, Angela talks about her husband Josh's new car and his meticulous car-cleaning routine. She describes how Josh "floofs" his car daily to keep it spotless, despite the challenges posed by their old home's narrow driveway and blooming trees. Angela reflects, "I love when someone takes care of something and care with something. It reminds me of my dad" (09:30), highlighting the importance of valuing possessions over disposable culture.
Sam and Cassie contribute with light-hearted suggestions, encouraging Angela to perhaps start tracking Josh's cleaning frequency or even letting Cassie experiment with floofing the car herself (10:03-10:23). The group shares a laugh over the quirky behavior, ultimately showing support for Josh's dedication.
In her second Friday Chit Chat share, Jenna opens up about fostering four kittens through Kitten Rescue. She paints a vivid picture of her bustling household, comparing the kittens' playful chaos to a "zombie movie" and referencing "The Last of Us" with a laugh (11:07). Jenna passionately urges listeners, "Please go to kittenrescue.org and fill out an adoption form" (12:02), sharing the kittens' endearing names: Manny, Claire, Haley, and Chinny D.
Angela and Cassie echo Jenna's sentiments, emphasizing the joy and challenges of fostering, and encouraging the community to consider adoption.
