Send us Fan MailIt's pop culture queen of the month where we highlight a iconic woman owning the spotlight and crown her queen! This week, we're digging into Meg Stalter's journey from internet fame with the 'Hi, Gay!' video to a rising comedy star with roles in Cora Bora, Hacks, and Too Much. But first we're yapping about the Aldi cart exchange, Hollis's brush with death, and her suggestion as possibly cutting bangs again. Then it's on to the latest Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni updates, their unusual settlement agreement, our main takeaways, and what it could mean for the future of similar cases. Next we're diving into a much needed reality check and catching up on The Valley drama, Lindsay and Carl's igloo reconciliation, and Kyle's redemption arc (or the illusion of it at least.) Then it's time to get in the weeds with our Pop Cutlure Queen of the month, Meg Stalter! Hollis walks us through her internet comeuppance, her career trajectory that's catapulting her towards A List status, and her candid discussions of bisexuality and faith, exploring how it shapes her experience as a millennial woman navigating fame, confidence, and self-expression. Meg's just getting started and we can't wait to see what the future holds for her. As always we wrap it up with gripes about corporations and bad smells and grapes to good advertising and snack conveniences. Send us Fan MailIt's pop culture archives and we're diving into the 2005 film Havoc to explore it's themes of cultural appropriation, rich white teen culture, gang representation, racial dynamics, sexual assault (TW), and the conversation around consent. There's a lot to unpack especially viewing the film through a post Me Too and Black Lives Matter lens. This movie attempted to convey important messages but misses the mark in so many ways. The film follows a group of wealthy white Los Angeles teenagers who spend their days imitating gang lifestyle and forming a crew they call the PLC. Fed up with their "boring" lives the female members of the PLC embark on a journey to find "real gangsters" and chaos ensues when they encounter the East LA 16th Street Crew. The film is layered and problematic in it's portrayal of cultural appropriation by the white teens and the "real" 16th Street Crew which was inspired by the 18th Street Gang, one of the largest and most notorious Latino Street gangs in Los Angeles history. The film also fumbles through a story of sexual assault which only serves to perpetuate stereotypes around gang life and criminal activity pertaining to minorities as well as blur the lines in the conversation around consent. The movie provides no resolution to any of the conflicts that arise and viewers are left wondering what is the message here? As always we wrap up the episode with gripes about inflation and keyboard warriors who can't get it right and grapes to fitness tech and analog listening. Send us Fan MailWe're sharing our thoughts on the future of beauty culture with the newest innovation hitting the market. The smart mirror. We're wondering is this real confidence or is this marketing that preys on the insecurities of women? Is this individualized beauty tailored to your face or is AI generating the same face for all of us? Is this creating more joy and satisfaction for women or is it keeping us distracted and focused on one thing? We've got some thoughts and we're sure you do too! But first, we're yapping about hump day, shopping, trampolines, and Cinco de Mayo. Then we've got to discuss the latest summer house drama, the met gala, and Hollis's important message to the billionaires. Next, we're getting in the weeds over this new Swan Beauty Mirror. Quite frankly, we don't like it. Not one bit. However, there's a lot to unpack here and as always the nuances are nuancing and we'd love to hear what you think. Then we're circling back to the top of the episode to chat about Dark Side Danny (not too brag but we clocked this guy months ago) and Luke's recent comments that had our jaws on the floor. As always we wrap it up with gripes about trigger warnings and butter behavior and grapes to 90s nostalgia. Send us Fan MailToday we're exploring themes of self-worth (especially as it pertains to chronic illness and our perception of the physical female body), identity, mental health, relationship dynamics, and beauty culture in a discussion about Lena Dunham's new book Famesick. We'll be sharing some thoughts on her interviews with the New York Times and other media outlets as well as discussing some insights from her book. Hollis has been reading the book so there may be some light spoilers but we won't be getting into too many details so you can still enjoy if you plan to read it. But first, we're yapping about potty training, taking the pressure off, new nightmares unlocked, and tick season. Next, its a quick reality check to discuss the latest summer house drama. Then we've got thoughts on the recent discourse surrounding photos of Millie Bobbie Brown and her husband. These photos have sparked controversy around labor division in parenting and we're wondering does a picture really speak 1,000 words? Next, we're discussing the media speculation around "Ozempic face" and what this means for trends in beauty standards and the way in which we discuss and dissect female bodies. There's a lot to unpack here and as always the issue is layered with valid arguments to support multiple viewpoints. We're striving to find a way to combat societal standards and move the needle for women without perpetuating the existing narratives and it's not an easy thing to do. Finally, its time to get in the weeds with a conversation about Lena Dunham's new book Famesick. The themes are theming and there is much to discuss! As always we wrap it up with gripes about male drivers and choosing poorly and grapes to achieving full adult status and musical geniuses. Send us Fan MailIt's pop culture queen of the month where we feature an iconic woman owning the spotlight and crown her queen! But first we're yapping about our voices, jumping out of airplanes into war, and becoming the family matriarchs. Next, Hollis is filling us in on the latest nonsense from Russel Brand and Usher and we've got thoughts. It's all really giving women don't matter and we prefer not to hear from them again. What do you think? Then it's time for a quick reality check where we dish on the latest bravo tv happenings. We've got thoughts about the summer house audio leak, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion, and the Valley. We could maybe do without hearing from Luke or Danny for a while too. We'll be covering her early start in the industry, career trajectory in music, fashion, acting, and directing, awards and recognitions, and her current and future projects. Send us Fan MailWe're discussing double standards in parenting, the social construct of pick me girls, and digging into a reality check to dish on the latest Bravo TV drama. But, first we're debriefing Hollis's birthday celebration and sharing some embarrassing cell phone faux pas moments. Next, we're reminiscing about Bob and Tom. RIP Bob. Tell me your an 80s baby without telling me your an 80s baby. Then we're discussing Emma Grede's comment in the Wall Street Journal about being a 3 hour mom. We expect mothers to do it all, do it all perfectly, and do it all with gratitude to be given the opportunity, regardless of what is actually reasonable or even possible. And the double standard when discussing fathers is glaring. Next, we've got a circle back to the Blake Lively lawsuit and some expanded thoughts on the conversation around the Summer House Drama. We're discussing pick me girls, labels we affix to women, and we use them as tools to criticize and tear each other down. Then it's on to the Valley and Danny Booko's darkside, Dorit's bob era, her streams of revenue, and Boz's engagement and pregnancy announcement. As always we wrap it up with gripes about weak bladders and new appliances and grapes to productivity and true advertising. This week we're discussing one of our favorites, Never Been Kissed! We're bringing you some fun facts, dishing on the scenes and one liners we love, and diving into some of the movie's heavier themes of impossible romance standards, illicit flirting and relationships, and romanticizing underage girls being consumed by the adult male gaze. Tune in for the review! Then we're yapping about Helen Hunt, The Dinosaurs, and Taylor Frankie Paul. We have a lot of thoughts regarding the video and her recent behavior, her relationship with Dakota, and how networks handle these situations. Speaking of circle backs we've got some clarifications and expansions on last week's conversation around feminism, what it means, and how we approach issues in the current climate. Then it's time for a quick reality check where we dish on the latest reality TV happenings. We've got thoughts on the Southern Charm reunion and Paige Desorbo's remarks and transparency about her experience with Botox. As always we wrap it up with gripes about parental responsibilities and gift giving struggles and grapes to simple conveniences and humble snacks!Reach out to the podcast at shesintheweedspodcast@gmail.com for questions, concerns, or collaborations. Send us Fan MailIt's pop culture queen of the month where we feature an iconic woman owning the spotlight and crown her queen! But first we're yapping about potty training, women's history month, and our 6 degrees of separation from a new RHONY housewife. Then we need to talk about Scott Galloway's latest remarks on paternity leave and the role of fathers in an newborn's life. We're sharing our thoughts on Scott's original remarks in an interview he conducted on his podcast with Derek Thompson and his response to the backlash. Next, we're crowning Margaret Atwood as this month's PCQ and Hollis is leading the discussion on her background, career as an author, poet, and feminist figure, and controversies surrounding a incident involving SA allegations against one of her former colleagues (Trigger Warning there is light discussion around the SA allegations with very little to no detail). She is an extremely smart and accomplished woman who has had a huge impact on pop culture most notably with her book turned hit Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale. She has solidified herself, perhaps unwillingly, as a divisive feminist figure with a body of work featuring female protagonists and encompassing themes around gender roles, identity, agency, and sexual and power politics. She was such an interesting person to learn about and we hope you enjoy learning about her as much as we did! We're wrapping today's episode up with a quick she's in the comments segment and our weekly grapes and gripes!
