The Yeast of the Pharisees. They had forgotten to bring any bread with them, and they had only one loaf in the boat. Jesus then gave them this warning, “Be careful, and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.” They talked about this to one another and concluded: “It is because we have no bread.”

Becoming aware of what they were discussing, he said to them, “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not understand or comprehend? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes and fail to see? Do you have ears and fail to hear?

“And do you not remember? When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets filled with fragments did you collect?” They answered, “Twelve.” “When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many baskets filled with fragments did you collect?” They answered, “Seven.” He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”
