Next, when Scott Curtis gave his treasured parking spot to Shawna after her foot surgery, that was more powerful to her than a thousand sermons. Then Shawna shares, “I tried to talk Jack Haveman out of hiring me. I had 0 radio experience!” Jack joins us to share why. And why did Perry ask Shawna about Star Wars in her job interview? Former atheist Howard Shores shares his near death experience. He expected nothing when he drew his final breath. Instead he was enveloped in utter darkness and the demonic. But then.... Perry says, “Shawna you’ve got such a great heart, share it one more time with our amazing friends!” Last, Perry and Shawna know goodbyes are hard. But like a trapeze artist we’re letting go of one bar as the other is coming to meet us. Especially when we’re anxiously trying to prove to God that we really love him. And what Dan says to Perry makes Perry want to give Dan a big hug! In 2023 Perry released his song “Crashed Into Grace.” It did really well. He was praised by “really important people.” And it went to his head. What he had set out to do for God became all about him! It’s all about how to reset into boasting in Jesus, not in ourselves. Perry had a dream about his dad. In it, his grown up self was talking with a young version of his dad, maybe when he was about 20. He spoke encouragement into his dad’s life about his dad’s future. What was a dream like that all about? Then Perry stood in Mamertine Prison in Rome where Paul was likely held before he was executed by Rome. It’s a moment now etched in his memory as it seemed Paul was speaking to him life altering words. Within moments she was overwhelmed by God’s love for her. God wants you to know how much He loves you. CJ has absolutely hated himself since he was 7 years old. He recently asked God: Can you hear me? Is there a seat for me at your table? And will you please make it unmistakable when you answer these prayers? God made it very clear because He wants us to know how much He loves us! Chris grew up in a dysfunctional family. While on vacation with his girlfriend’s family he was so uncomfortable with the love that flowed so freely between them. God Himself expressed His love to Chris through the mom in the family. God truly wants us to know that He loves us. Once in a while God pulls back the curtain and shows us what he’s up to. That happened this week for Perry. He shared the story this week of helping out a troubled woman at Zeeland Hospital. Then yesterday Christine called. She had been prompted to listen to Perry and Shawna and when she clicked into the show Perry was sharing that story. Christine realized Perry was talking about her sister. And there’s more! When Shawna moved from Arizona to Michigan she could see how this would be good for everyone in her family but her. “God, what am I here to do?” she asked. And she sensed God’s reply was, “What do you want to do?” As she thought about it she resolved that she wants to help others to live in love relationship with God knowing that He’s right here, right now – to make disciples. We are all called and commissioned to do just that. Perry admits, “I am Edmund.” Edmund from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Edmund betrayed his siblings to the White Witch of Narnia because of his lust for Turkish delight. Because of that, his life, and all of Narnia would be destroyed. That’s was the rule of the Deep Magic. But even with all our questions and heartache we’re reminded in scripture that we can trust that God’s timing is perfect! Perry and his bride Teresa were just on their 40th anniversary trip to Italy and Ireland. And on a sunshiny morning in St. Peter’s Square in Rome they met Jorge. Jorge asked Perry to take his picture with St. Peter’s Basilica in the background. Then Perry’s asked Jorge, “What does Jesus mean to you?” It was a stunning God moment. Shawna’s pet peeve is being interrupted. But there was one time she was grateful for it. God interrupted her freak out with a message of correction and love. Perry had gone in to get some blood work. Get in, get out, move on with the day. But then there was this really troubled woman in the hospital lobby. He’d gotten his blood work and had left the hospital when the Holy Spirit said, “Go back and see if you can help this woman.” Our love for God leads us to surrender. Shawna has a situation in her life that she cannot control, no matter how hard she tries. So she: 1) freaked out, 2) got mad, and 3) told God the truth—that she was scared.
