This is my retrospective of the iconic LETHAL WEAPON film franchise, as well as my arguments for why a fifth film is not needed (or wanted!). In this special episode, we talk about what makes these movies work, and why the challenges of making a fifth movie are simply too much to overcome at this point. I have included a clip from my conversations with Mathew Buck (host of the Film Brain YouTube channel), in which Mathew also shares his disinterest in a fifth Lethal Weapon movie. We also cover a couple of near-catastrophic experiences Jimmy survived, as well as an unfortunate photo of him that recently surfaced as a result of a US government documents dump. This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with STAN BUSH, the man behind iconic '80s soundtrack anthems like "The Touch", "Dare", "Fight to Survive", and "Never Surrender"! In this conversation, we talk about two of the most important people he works with when recording music, how those collaborations played out on this new album, and what motivates him to record his brand of “motivational rock”. We also discussed his musical roots, which go back to his youth in Gainsville, FL where he played in high school talent shows alongside a young Tom Petty AND the Allman Brothers. Then he told me about the first band he recorded an album with, how he launched his solo career, and since he’ll be playing shows next year – how he puts together his setlists. And as a bonus, he even tells the story of perhaps the goofiest moment of his career. This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with STU COOK, legendary bassist of Creedence Clearwater Revival! Stu visited the show to promote an album he recorded (called "JACKDAWG") along with John McFee and Keith Knudson from The Doobie Brothers. In this conversation, we talk about how JACKDAWG got started, their songwriting process, why the album took so long to get a proper release, and how they came up with the name. Stu also tells the stories behind a few of the tracks, and shares his memories of drummer Keith Knudson. We also discuss two major aspects of Stu’s career. The first being his production work on Roky Erickson’s 1980 album “The Evil One”. And then we close the interview with Stu reflecting on his time playing in Creedence Clearwater Revisited, which is how I saw him in concert. This is Play That Rock n' Roll's 100th episode (!), which is an interview with comedian Nick Prueher, the co-host of the Found Footage Festival. We begin this interview by talking about what Nick was doing before the Found Footage Fest, which was mainly working at the Late Show with David Letterman. He tells some great stories about interacting with celebrities like Richard Simmons, Darlene Love, Bruce Willis, and even President Bill Clinton. He also shares his memories of working on the episode that featured Warren Zevon’s legendary final appearance. From there, we move onto what he’s doing now with the Found Footage Festival. He talks about how the show got started, the comedy bits he’s most proud of, and some of the incredible and unique people he’s met by doing this show. And we even dive into the challenges they face when it comes to protecting their intellectual property, as well as the comedic art of video editing. This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with Gary Graff, editor of "501 ESSENTIAL ALBUMS OF THE '80s: The Music Fan's Definitive Guide"! In this conversation, we talk about some of the major musical trends of the ‘80s and how Gary felt about them in his early days as a music journalist. And since we had both recently seen Devo on their current tour, Gary shares his review of that show. From there, we dive in on some Classic Rock selections that he wrote the reviews for, specifically albums from Genesis, Steve Winwood, Toto, Night Ranger, Alice Cooper, among others. We also discuss why so many ‘60s artists had comebacks in the ‘80s, and of course I had to ask him about what Bob Seger was up to in that era.
