I'm watching my, you know, Fruit AI videos. I'm watching the fruits are. I was like, let me make a little time. So I put it on two times, speed. And I want to give this guy a shout out. I'm not going to tell the whole story because it's a long story, but shout out to him because he's a good storyteller. His name is Himbo Poppy, and he's a truck driver. And he was telling a story about how when you are a truck driver, they will overwork you if, you know, you allow it, or things like that. And he was like, how? He almost fell asleep at the wheel. And he was like, I almost lost my life. He said, lex P. Saved my life. Cause I was listening to Poor Mines and she screamed and it woke him up.

He said he was steering off the road and he said. I literally. He was like, I was listening to Draya and Lex P. He was like, I was listening to them. And I was like, okay. It kept me entertained. Then as the story went on, he was like, I fell asleep again. And he was like. And it was the moment on the podcast where she screamed and it woke me up. And mind you, the way he's telling the story is very funny, but it kind of made me emotional a little bit because it's little things like that that just happened. That it was like, okay, it's not your time right now. So things just happened in place. So it was like, oh, my God, friend. It was such a good story. But I like people be thinking, people supposed to live forever. Like I think if you get to be in your 80s, that's a ripe old age. Like I feel like my daddy was robbed of his life.

How was your dad?

My dad was in his 60s. Damn, he didn't even make it to seven. And the funny thing, he was about to turn 70 that year. But he died before his 70th birthday. Like I feel like he was right. Like he could have lived another 20 something years.

Yeah, he could have gave us a hot 20. He could have gave us another 20.

It was really just a mindset shift for me personally. Like, I had just gotten out of the trenches of having two babies under two.

Working my corporate marketing job. So it was like, right before COVID hit, and I was just always in the house. Me and my husband had just bought our first home, and I was really consumed with. And I feel like a lot of women get in those types of situations where you kind of lose your sense of self a little bit. You lose that zhuzh about you. And it's not that I wanted to be outside or all of that, but I was still, like, maybe 29, 30, and I still felt like that girl. But I didn't have those opportunities to necessarily go out and all that like some of my other peers. So I felt like there was a season where I had a little bit of FOMO and, like, watching some of my kid list friends go out. And even on social media at that time, it was all about, like, the

lunches and the brunches and the girls. Girl power brunch.

Yeah. Okay. And so it was like, a part of me kind of felt like, well, that's not really me either. But I don't necessarily want to just be looking crazy in the house. I always used to wear my husband's big white tees and his basketball shorts. And I kind of got away from being the fashion girly that I once was. So I just kind of tapped into what I liked, which was home decor and talking about being an introvert, and I just started a new Instagram page. So it was in 2019 where I started the Instagram page and. And it was like a lot of women started to follow me. So I did get a nice following, but of course, I never even thought of it like a business at that point. But I was clearly building a community. I'm like, well, something is here, something special. So I'm like, you know what? Why not? And in February of 2020. So it was literally right before all hell, the disaster. Yes, we launched and it was just with a couple of sweatshirts and T shirts and a mug and nothing spectacular. But at that time, I was looking at it from, like, a creative outlet, hobby for me. But I also, because I was in marketing, looked at it from a business sense of There's a whole untapped market of women like me, like millennial women who at that time, I love sets. Like, I'm a two piece set. I need something. I need something easy. Okay, like, love a nice bag, love

[Drea Nicole]

a nice shoe accessory. But two set me down.

[Lex P]

I need the set. Yeah, I need a set. I need everything to be real easy. And so I felt like at that time, and still there were a lot of sets and that sort of thing from, you know, the fashion novas and, you know, the Boo Hoos and that sort of site that they would kind of cater to a body type that I necessarily didn't have anymore. I had a mom pouch that I haven't cut off yet.

[Drea Nicole]

I'm still gonna cut it off one

day, but it's still there.

[Drea Nicole]

Right? Right.

[Lex P]

And I felt like there has to be other, like, young popping girls who might have a mom pouch, who might have stretch marks on their stomach, and don't necessarily, you know, gravitate to those sorts of sets and easy options that are like, really bodyconned. So I was like, you know what? Like, we can make some relaxed fit sets real cute and still have you feeling confident with what you're either lounging around the house in or simply, you know, running to Target or whatever.

[Drea Nicole]

No, I was just gonna say I love that because I am that type of Girl, like, I love something where I can still feel comfy and feel cut, but then, you know, we're still giving fashion at the same time. And I love the quality of this. It's thick. It's good material. You can tell you ain't cutting no corners. Oh, yeah. Yes. Thank you. And that's another thing about just my target audience. And I was wanting to just put myself in my customer's shoes. Like, I'm not a girl who necessarily wants to have, like, the flimsy, fast fashion, even though there's nothing wrong with that from time to time. But I also didn't necessarily want to be paying $150 for a sweatshirt. If it's just kind of like a normal, basic sweatshirt. I'm like, it has to be something in between that still gives the quality for a grown woman like me, but also is affordable and that nice middle ground where I felt like I wasn't breaking the bank or being irresponsible.

So let me say a few things. Like I said, I'm giving you a real live review right now.

So this set. Now, mind you, I done had surgery 36,000 times, period. So I have a larger butt and a smaller waist. One thing about it, when I order rompers, I'm always scared of rompers, because it's always that gap. Ain't no gap. But it's not squishing in my booty either.

You know what I'm saying? So this without the jacket, I know I got about three outfits I can put on right now. Even with the jacket by itself. I got another three fits I could put right now. I think we need to talk about capsule closets. Like, it's good to have staple pieces that you can dress up that are quality, that last. That will last, that last a long time. Because I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm used to, like, a certain type of material. I don't even know what material this is. What material is this?

Yes, we want to show the curve. It looks absolutely amazing. Okay, so outside of, you know, what inspired to this for you to start your brand, because obviously this is what you do full time now. But I think outside. Outside of, you know, this is an amazing brand, and we gonna get into candles in a second. But I wanna talk about you having a 9 to 5 and starting the brand and doing that and eventually crossing over. Because I think we live in a society now where people just be like, quit your job and go all in. But I wanna talk about how you did your nine to five and your business, and you eventually was like, okay, now I can quit and do this full time.

[Lex P]

Yes. No, that is such a good point. So, like I said when I started, wasn't really taking it too serious. Once I started the fancy homebody page, I was just calling myself fancy homebody. Then I was like, let's get a logo made, you know? And so I was still working in corporate marketing in the pharmaceutical sector, and I had been working from home for, like, four years. So I was working from home before it was cool to work from home.

[Drea Nicole]

Yes.

[Lex P]

So I did have a little bit more flexibility than say, you know, they

[Drea Nicole]

had to go in the office.

[Lex P]

Yeah, of course. Like, yeah, I'm working on that report, but I'm really, you know, looking at fabrics and stuff. So my situation was a little different because I was able to kind of navigate working from home and doing that. But I'm not gonna lie, the pandemic is like, the bandemic. Yeah.

[Drea Nicole]

People were spending money. They were.

[Lex P]

So we launched in February. I quit my job in September. September. Oh, wow.

[Drea Nicole]

They was on the street.

[Lex P]

No time. Cause everybody was at home, too. And you were selling loungewear. Exactly. And I felt like everybody and they mama was pivoting and going towards loungewear and that. But it might not have felt natural, but I felt like I have already been talking about, like, I don't be nowhere. I be in the house. Like, for real, I'm here. I'm living my raps.

[Drea Nicole]

Yeah.

[Lex P]

So I felt like it was a little bit more authentic. And the fact that I was really just growing that community and taking that community of just girls. I would kiki with in the DM to really being my target customer. And so a lot of women ask me all the time, you know, how I should get started. I have a job and that sort of thing. And while my situation was a great blessing that I was able to quit so quick, I was also able to quit because I did have a nice amount of sales going in that I was able to have a cushion put up.

[Drea Nicole]

That is very important. You don't just want to be crazy now just jumping out the window. And also, a lot of people don't talk about drop shipping. So when I first. First started, I was drop shipping those T shirts and sweatshirts so I didn't have to buy inventory.

[Drea Nicole]

Okay.

[Lex P]

Okay. So that was another way of not having to come out of my pocket to buy a lot of inventory. So that was great. That was great for me. And it's not sexy at all to talk about drop shipping, but it is an option for people who just kind of want to get your brand name out there. Like, it was just fancy homebody sweatshirts. But I knew that eventually I wanted to do things like this. So I was able to save up the money that I got from these. Those sorts of like basic teas to then find my manufacturer and really start going in on our designs.

[Drea Nicole]

We did drop shipping before too, so we know all about it, Chad. But if you do it right, it can be very. And then I want to make sure.

[Lex P]

I wanted to ask a question. I wanted to ask you. So, like, when did you make the pivotal decision that you wanted to just go from loungewear and sleepwear to selling home essentials? So I feel like it was always in the back of my mind that fancy homebody is more than just clothes. And I felt like, just based on what I like to talk to my community about, we talk about what y' all making the kids for dinner this week and that sort of thing. Like, we share things like that in like my question box. So I felt like I really wanted to be in the home a little bit more and not necessarily just focus on clothes. So I've always wanted to do fragrance. I am a big, big candle girl. So we finally launched our candle line last year and I love to say that they are hand poured by a black woman in Chicago, period.

Oh, yes. So we're not like mass producing them right now because again, just trying to be smart business wise. You know, bread and butter is clearly still our clothing. And this is just such a fun passion project for me that we're starting to introduce candles. So also being able to help a small business in that way has been really great.

And I think that's a good point to make. Like home decor. Cause I just started like my little series online and I didn't know they love it. The girls love home decor and I think a lot of times we don't realize being at home and your mental health is one in one.

So we are also thinking about adding that to the fragrance line. But as far as fancy homebody, we're really loving the fact that, you know, with all the growth, having everybody kind of experience our best sellers from like our robes and different sets, really expanding those best selling collections instead of like, oh, just hopping on every little trend. I just really want to continue to put out quality products that everybody's gonna have for years to come. And not necessarily chase the new trends of clothing and that sort of thing, but always wanting to expand our colorways and that sort of thing. Yeah. The first topic is, are people over complicating relationships? How can we bring the fun back in relationships? Movies always show us the fun and romantic love stories. Do you think it's impossible to have those type of stories in real life, or do you think it's realistic?

I Think that it is possible if you have somebody who has the same mindset as you. You know what I'm saying? I think there are a lot of people who take life seriously, and that's okay. I think there are a lot of people who live in La La Land and they want to have fun, they want to go out, they want to romanticize everything. Like, if you're the type of woman who wakes up or the type of man who wakes up and romanticizes your life, like, everything is, I'm going get dressed. I'm going brush my teeth. I'm cooking breakfast. Oh, my God, the sun is coming in. I'm making my coffee. You need to be with somebody who's like that as well. I think if you're a kind of person that's just like, get up, go to work, go take your lunch break, come back, go to the gym, go home, that's fine as well, too. But you need to be with somebody like that. I think you can have whatever you want in this life, and that's something that I have learned. So I think a lot of times when people tell other people life is not a fantasy, you have to be realistic. That's just because you have never made anything in your life come true.

And we need to stop telling people that you can't have what you want in life. So, yeah, I think it's possible.

I guess I look at it like, y' all ain't having fun in relationships. Y' all staying with people y' all ain't having fun with. Like what? Yeah, like, what's the point in being in a relationship with somebody that you not having fun? And to me, that's grounds for a breakup. Yeah. If it's just too stuffy and too serious all the time. We don't ever have fun together. We not laughing together. We don't go and do things like.

Cause where's the joy to me, I will understand a woman or a man staying in a relationship if they're having fun more than somebody. You know what I'm saying? Like, they're staying because they're having so much fun. And maybe this is not their ideal partner, but they be having fun. I can give you. I'd be like, I get it, girl. It's hard. Cause you having a ball, but you're crying every day. You sad, you upset, you this, you that. And I also think that a fan. What did we say?

Fun is what you make it, though. What's fun to you, right? Y' all need to stop looking at what other people think is. Is fun. Like, fun. Since this person may be just staying in Netflix, ordering some pizza. Hood fun to this girl maybe going to Miami. Fun to this girl, maybe going to Chanel. You need to know yourself and stop letting society decide what is fun. So I think that people definitely overcomplicate relationships because of social fucking media. Yes. 1,000%. Relationships really don't got to be that hard.

Be loyal and like the person you with.

I think that's the problem with a lot of people. People don't prioritize going on dates on a regular basis. Even when you get in a relationship. I don't know why people think dating is reserved for, like, when you're trying to vet and figure out who you want to, you know, be in a relationship with. No. Once you get in the relationship with the person, y' all still need to date each other. Y' all still need to plan things. Y' all still. And sometimes not even playing things. You still need to be spontaneous sometimes and surprise the person. And I just think. I don't know, people have lost that for some reason, and I think that's the reason why maybe people don't think dating is fun anymore, but I can't be in our relationship where we just be sitting around looking at each other.

But I think just the climate.

I can do that by myself and look in the mirror.

But I think just the climate of everything, like, life is so serious now. So I try to give people a little bit of a break because everything is so serious now. Like, everything is. But, I mean, it kind of has to be, but I feel like you need a little escape.

And if I'm spending 75 of my time with you, like, can we please just have a good time? Like, I don't know. Life is a lot more serious, I feel like, now than it was in our younger years. Like, I feel like when I was in my, like, 20s, and maybe because I didn't have any real responsibilities, but I don't know, everything is just so serious now. Do you feel that way?

[Lex P]

Yeah, I do. I be feeling like shit is definitely very serious these days. When we was in our 20s, we was having a ball blast. Yeah.

Like, everything is so time of our life. Like, girls be like, I can't go out with him because he didn't. Girl, go have fun. Like, just go have fun. Are you. Is he gonna be my husband or are niggas be like, man, if she not. And I don't know if she gonna do. Just go have a good time and vibe. Just vibe twin. What they say? That's what the kids say. Just vibe twin. Yeah. Like, God damn. God motherfucking damn.

Yeah, they losing the plot.

They losing the plot of having fun. And I hate that for my youngins. And I know a lot of people will be like, well, that's why. That's why y' all old. Cause y' all didn't single. Cause y' all didn't take shit seriously. But I feel like God is right on time in my life.

I disagree. I feel like you could take shit serious and still be single. That don't mean. It don't mean. Cuz it's like you could take somebody serious in your 20s, and then you. You could, like, you could be in serious relationships throughout your whole twenties and still not get married because you might be with men who just don't want to marry you.

[Drea Nicole]

And not only that, I have a lot of friends that are divorced now.

[Lex P]

And that's what I was going to say, too. Yeah, it's the divorces as well. Like, you can get married young, and then y' all not compatible as you thought y' all were. And now you 27 and divorced, and you gotta get back in the streets, and then you don't find somebody again till you 32. I don't know. Like, people love to try to say bullshit to other people, but they be projecting, in my opinion.

[Drea Nicole]

Yeah, I definitely think they're projecting. And I think we are. Another thing about the fund is we're depending on our partners too much to make us happy. I wake up every morning happy regardless. I don't give a what people got. And that comes with. You have to be a little selfish, and that's okay. Yes. And people, what are you doing? Where you at? Got to talk to their partner all day. They can't go out, have fun. You have to have a life outside of your partner. I again, let me bring up the Tik Tok streets. There was a girl that went viral like two or three months ago, and she was talking about how I can't go on no girls trip. My husband's not there, my kids aren't there. Y' all are single. I'm not going. But guess what? If your husband got invited on a guy's trip, nine times out of ten he's gonna go, I'm not talking about her in particular, but have a life Outside of your spouse. Y' all don't be having nothing to do outside of being a husband, a wife, a mother, a father. Like, it's okay to have balance. And I think that's a lot of times the fun is sucked out because when you get home, that's a job. You should be rushing home, but you're not rushing home because you have to make this other person happy. And, oh, he didn't text you or he didn't call you. He didn't. It'd be too much pressure. The pressure is getting worser. I don't like it.

Yeah, sometimes you do got to apply pressure, though, because then I feel like y' all just be in a gray area.

[Drea Nicole]

It's a fine line. Yes, I agree. I do agree. You do got to apply pressure, but not to the point to where it's running you thin and running you dry. You know what I'm saying?

Yeah. Just date people, get to know them, and if you like them, just have fun. Have fun.

I feel like, you know, when somebody's trying to, I don't know, maybe people discernment be off, but I know when somebody's trying to take advantage of me or when I feel like they want something out the situation and they not like. Like being genuine or we don't want the same things. I don't know. Like, I feel like men be doing little stuff. Like they be like, making comments all the time about how fine you are, like, about sex and insinuating that they want to have sex or trying to do, like, intimate things or they're like very touchy feely alive. I feel like you could tell early on because a man who was really likes you.
