This is wheezy. WTF from Decisions decisions, ladies. Let's talk about taking control of our sexual health. That's grown woman energy. You may think HIV affects someone else somewhere else, but the truth is it's impacting our community and some of us are being hit harder than others. Black women make up just 13% of the women in the US yet account for nearly half of new HIV diagnoses amongst women. Taking care of ourselves is community care. Lex P.
Okay, Kanye June 8th Ludacris September so
Dre Nicole
Kanye older, so Kanye older.
Lex P.
Okay. All right.
Dre Nicole
Martin Luther King Jr. And Anne Frank.
Ty
Anne Frank.
Dre Nicole
I had to throw a little razzle dazzle in there.
Lex P.
Martin Luther King and Anne Frank. She was born in, like, 1600.
Dre Nicole
No, the fuck she wasn't.
Lex P.
She had to have been.
Dre Nicole
No, she wasn't. She was. She was alive. The Diary of Anne Frank. She was alive around the same time as mlk. Just different parts of the world in different centuries.
Lex P.
Oh, you know.
Dre Nicole
No, it was during. It was around the same time. Just different countries.
Lex P.
I got her confused with Helen Keller. Bitch.
Dre Nicole
When was she born?
Lex P.
In the 1600s. For real? I don't know, but it was long time.
Dre Nicole
I feel like you just making some shit up, Ty. Look and see. When Helen Keller was alive, this is. She was deaf and blind.
Lex P.
Oh, Lord.
Dre Nicole
Why I started feeling for something.
Lex P.
Cause you had to feel it. You had to get in character. Damn. She lived a long life. Who?
Dre Nicole
Keller.
Ty
Helen Keller was born in June 27, 1880.
Lex P.
Wow.
Ty
She lived all the way to June 1, 1968.
Dre Nicole
Damn.
Lex P.
Damn. You know why? Cuz she couldn't see or hear these. Yeah. Straight up stress free. What's up, y'?
Dre Nicole
All?
Lex P.
It's your girl, Lex P. And it's
Dre Nicole
your girl, Dre Nicole.
Lex P.
And you are tuned in to another episode of Poor Minds, where a drunk
Dre Nicole
mind speaks sober thoughts.
Lex P.
We ain't got no guests today. We ain't got no guests today. I know the girls are at home on the couch. Happy that it's just us two today.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, they be excited about a solo.
Lex P.
We gonna rack up some sol. Cause we do have a lot of guest episodes coming. But we've had a good streak. Like, we've had some really, really good guests this year. I feel like we've started with a bang, you know, entering, what, the second quarter now. We've started with a bang.
Dre Nicole
We have had some great people on.
Lex P.
Yeah. Hopefully by the time this drops, that LA date will have dropped because the girls are causing a riot.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, yeah. The tickets are coming, y'. All. Like, we promise. We definitely got a LA show coming up so soon. But again, I think I've said this before on the show, the process is just not as simple as you would think. We can't just put the tickets on sale. You know what I mean? Like, it's a whole process. We working with Live Nation as our touring partner, and. Yeah, but we going to get them to y' all asap.
Lex P.
And then I was driving here today, and I realized something. You know, when you see a car and people be like, uh, let me get away from them. They don't know how to drive or. Cause they car raggedy. I'm that car now that people avoid on the highway. Ooh, let me get away from her. Ooh, ooh, uh, she, Ooh, that's me. I'm the person they avoid. I seen him. He looked at me from the side. He didn't want to look all the way over. He said, uh, he got over. I said, sir, I ain't gonna hurt you. Me and my putt putt, we gonna make it through. Why do we do that as people? You car don't even do nothing. We just see a little bag over the window and we be like, let me get on. They don't know what they doing.
Dre Nicole
Well, that's what I was gonna say. It be cars like that for sure. Cause it's like, what the fuck you got going on?
Ty
And if you get your own car,
Dre Nicole
no, chef, you ain't gonna give a damn about mine.
Lex P.
Absolutely not, girl.
Dre Nicole
Exactly. Yeah. If you got a bag over your window, get the fuck away from me.
Lex P.
Facts.
Dre Nicole
Because it really don't even. Like, seriously, I feel like over time, if it's been like a month or so, you could have saved like $25 a week and got it fixed by now.
Lex P.
Yeah.
Dre Nicole
Cause they have portable people that will come to you. I have had my window broken before.
Lex P.
Yeah, I have too.
Dre Nicole
My car got broken into before. And yeah, like, they will come to you. They gonna bring it to your doorstep.
Lex P.
So I think sometimes with me, like, cause I messed up my bumper. What did I hit? I forgot what I hit. No, you know what? Somebody had hit me. I forgot. We was on the way to New York, and I was just like, oh, let me get your information. And. And I was just like, you know what? I'll just go get it fixed real quick. Like, I didn't feel like doing all that going through insurance. And now it's been a long time. I feel like I'm gonna get it fixed. I'm gonna get to it.
Dre Nicole
You might as well just pay off it.
Lex P.
People see that bumper and they get to scooting. Is it really that bad?
Dre Nicole
I've never paid attention.
Lex P.
I mean, I can just feel it. You know how when you have a dent in your car, you low key. Be shame about it. Like, you can feel it. Like, it's just like having a stain on the back of your pants. Like, if you shot yourself, you know you done shot it and you know it's there.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
You know what I'm saying? No, Nobody ever shot it.
Dre Nicole
I was like, okay. Trying to empathize, but, well, I'm saying.
Lex P.
Or okay, maybe if you started your period and you got a little blood on your pants and you can just feel it and you feel like everybody's staring at you, but like, you know, you tie a jacket around you, ain't nobody looking at you. Yeah, I don't know.
Dre Nicole
When it come to cars though, I don't really think people care.
Lex P.
For real? Yeah.
Dre Nicole
I can just feel a certain demographic of people that really cares about that type of stuff. I mean, for the most part, I don't think people look at people and be like, ooh, look at what kind of car you got. Like, I never look at people cars and be like, oh, look at what kind of car they got.
Lex P.
Well, not about the kind of car.
Dre Nicole
Just look at it even that that's normal. A lot of people got dense in their cars and stuff that they don't be getting fixed. I mean, especially. I've realized as I've gotten older, women just really do not be giving a about our cars the way do. Yeah, like men really take pride. Pride in their vehicles. Like they going to wash it, they going to give it a name, they going to make sure it stay clean, get it detailed all the time. Like they going to make sure them tires is shiny. You can see your reflection. Like, men do not play about their cars. And I feel like that's why they can keep them for so long. Women, a lot of girls, they just be looking at it like it's just my transportation. It's how I get from point A to point B. Like, I don't know, even I can say with me, like, I probably don't wash my car as often as I should when it rain. I be like, yeah, I definitely celebrate when it rains.
Lex P.
And then I got so happy I found a gas station by my house. They got the drive through car wash. I feel like gas stations, it needs to be mandatory that you have a drive through car wash. You know how hard it is to find that. And it should not be that hard.
Dre Nicole
It should be though. Cause I don't like drive when I do get my car washed. I prefer to take you to the regular car wash and get it washed because those drive through car washes will scratch your car up.
Lex P.
Oh, it's already scratched up, bitch.
Dre Nicole
Well, for the people who's not. Your car is not scratched up. I think they don't be wanting it
Lex P.
to get it is bad for you. But if you got a. I feel like if you Got something that's like 2015 and less than you, know what I'm saying? We can go through that, drive through. I don't know, though.
Dre Nicole
Cause, like, it just depend on what you into. Cause some people be having cars that's older than 2015 and they be like, nice. They be mean.
Lex P.
We ain't talking about the old schools now. We ain't talking about that big crib old school when I ride type shit. We talk about all just old putt putts. We need to get that. What is it? The pollen. That pollen turned my bitch green. Yeah, I had to just drive through real quick now. See, I don't like to bring it nowhere because I be feeling like people be like, why are you washing this?
Dre Nicole
I mean, that's one thing I will say I like about having a white car is that when your car get dirty, you can't tell as much as you can when you have a dark car.
Lex P.
See? See, my shit be dusty.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, it's way more noticeable on a dark car.
Lex P.
You know how, like those cartoons, when they run off and they leave the dust behind them, that's exactly what my car be doing. Pound of dust when I take off. That's all right.
Dre Nicole
I'm weak.
Lex P.
That's all right, though. And you got a little tan. How was your trip to Mexico?
Dre Nicole
It was fun. I had a good time. Yeah, it was very relaxing. Yeah, it was very nice. Yeah.
Lex P.
Bomba clock.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, it was nice. I feel like I rarely ever go on vacations, and I just, like, relax and chill and don't do nothing. Like, I went to the spa, I got a massage. I laid out on the beach. I laid out by the pool. I was eating good, drinking. And that's pretty much what my vacation consisted of. I mean, I went out to eat at this nice restaurant called Ilios in Cabo. But for the most part, I was really just relaxing, enjoying my three days just kind of unplugged, not having nothing to do. Nothing to do.
Lex P.
Yes.
Dre Nicole
It was hot as fuck, though. Lord have mercy. It wasn't a cloud in the sky.
Lex P.
That's what I love about Mexico, though. Like the. When the weather is good, it's fire.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, it was hot. It was hot. Like, it was a few people in the pool and they was burnt up. A tomato looking like a blistered tomato.
Lex P.
I was like, lord, Lynn had me cracking up. Cause she was just like, please. She was begging for her life with all them shots y' all was thinking.
Dre Nicole
We didn't really take that many shots. She was being dramatic. We really didn't. Like, we was drinking.
Lex P.
Yeah.
Dre Nicole
But we didn't really take that many shots, though.
Lex P.
Okay.
Dre Nicole
But I had a good time, and the resort was, like, really, really beautiful. I would definitely stay there. Again, I said, like, I would want to go back and go on a girls trip because they have villas there at the resort, and it's like two, three bedroom villas, and they're really, really nice. So you still kind of get like, the vibe of being at a house, but then you also get all of the amenities of being at the resort. So I liked it a lot. It was beautiful. But that was expensive.
Lex P.
Yeah, as fuck.
Dre Nicole
Glad it wasn't on my time.
Lex P.
Amen, sister. Okay, let's get into this first topic today. All right? We going to talk about hobbies as an adult. You know, like, the things that we're into as children, of course, changes the older that we get, you know, And I feel like everybody kind of has, like, you know, not typical hobbies. But I think the thing that most adults don't realize is you don't have a hobby because you don't try different things. Like, I be trying different stuff. I'm like, oh, you know what? I don't like this as much as I thought I would, you know, like, shout out to my old roommate Jazz. She likes to do, like, artsy kind of stuff. And I remember one time she like, now this was fun. This was fun. But this was during COVID Like, she had bought a bunch of, like, art easels and, like, blank canvases, and we were just like, painting, smoking, hookah, and, like, getting drunk. Like, that was fun. I was like, you know what? Maybe I like doing artsy stuff. No, I don't like to paint, bitch. I'm not a good painter. I can't even fucking draw. Like, so I think one thing that I will say about myself is one, I'm gonna try different things until I discover what I like to do. And I. What I like to do is nothing. And I think that is a hobby. I enjoy flopping down on my couch. Now, one thing y' all know, I'm a movie buff. I'mma watch movies all damn day. I don't give a fuck. I watched the whole Shrek. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. There was so many different Shrek movies. I sat down, I watched them all from top to bottom. I love cartoon movies. You know, I feel like as an adult, we can still enjoy cartoons. Okay. I like to fall asleep to spongebob every now and then. Classic. So for me, like, my hobbies as an Adult is just relaxing. Cause I feel like what we do for a living is a little bit taxing, you know, saying hello. I almost got beat down at the Black Effect Awards, the Black Pod for Cats festival. It was a lot of the poor crew out there, the lovebirds, they was out there deep. So I think my hobby that I realize I like as an adult. Obviously, y' all know I love home decor, stuff like that. Y' all know that. But I think just watching tv, I'm a reality show head, you know, I'm gonna watch my housewives. Housewives of Atlanta is on right now. The tea is hot. I'm messy. And I think that's okay, too. That's my hobby. I like to talk about shit. As soon as something pop up on the shade room, I'm like, bitch, did you see this? As soon as somebody getting dragged. Did you see this, ho? I need y' all to know I like mess. Cause y' all know, y' all always see them posts when people be like, if you're messy, you're not busy enough and you not making no money. Oh, bitch, I'm making money. But I'mma make time to gossip.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
People got to get talked about. That's why we need to restore order in the world. We not talking about motherfuckers no more. It's no more shame. People don't fear being talked about. Have no fear, ho ass nigga. Lex P. Is here. Yeah. Mmm.
Dre Nicole
I don't know. I don't feel like people. I don't think people care about being talked about.
Lex P.
They need to.
Dre Nicole
I don't think they should, though. Cause why should they care?
Lex P.
Cause that's why.
Dre Nicole
Cause at the end of the day, people, everybody gonna still do what they wanna do.
Lex P.
You right?
Dre Nicole
But I don't know, I just. For me.
Lex P.
Mm.
Dre Nicole
I have a few different hobbies, but I don't know. I don't be caring enough about people to talk about em. I think that'd be the problem. I think, you know, everybody got they different things that they be into. But I don't think it's gonna make people shame, though. Cause people don't care. They still gonna live they life.
Lex P.
Mm. And we need. I'm trying to.
Dre Nicole
Especially when you in the public eye, I feel like you can't help that. Like, you can't really help what people gonna say.
Lex P.
Mm. That's the truth. That's the truth. So what are your hobbies now? We know. We know you like to work out and things like that. What are some hobbies that people Be surprised that you're into.
Dre Nicole
I don't think they would be surprised by any of them. But I like to work out. I like to eat. I'm a foodie. I love to eat good food. I try to do it in moderation, though, just because of, like, with being healthy and trying to keep my body looking a certain way. Of course, I can't always eat the stuff that I want to eat, but I love to, like, go to different restaurants, so I'm always trying a new restaurant. I love to read. I feel like I've talked about that on the show numerous times. Like, I love to read books. Let me think. What else do I like to do? I love going on walks, which is something that I feel like I picked up in, like, the last year or so. Because prior to that, I was never really an outdoors person. And it's so crazy because I've been living in, like, the city in Atlanta for pretty much the whole time I've been living here. I've been living, like, in the city, like, with midtown area, whatever. But I never really used to take advantage of the fact that I live so central to so many things and, like, really just walk around and explore and see what all is around me. But as of, like, the last, I would say I said one or two years, but it's actually been like, two, three years since I've been living in the building that I live in now. I just love walking around and, like, seeing what's around me. Some days I'll just get up and walk to the coffee shop. I'll get up and walk to a new restaurant and just, yeah, look at the scenery. And it'd be so much new stuff that I see sometimes that I'm like, I never even knew this was over here. That's why I could only imagine how overwhelming living somewhere like New York probably is, because I be feeling that way. And we live in Atlanta. New York is one of those places where it's, like, literally on top of each other because it's so much stuff. You could never truly explore that whole city. But, yeah, so I really like going on walks. Let me think. What's something else that I like doing? I like shopping, but again, I don't really think that's surprising. Yeah, I don't really think that's surprising. But I'm always kind of like. I love finding, like, cute pieces and, like, unique stuff, and I just hold on to stuff for a long time until I feel like it's the perfect time to wear it. Like, sometimes I'LL be having stuff in my closet for like, a year or two before I actually put it on. Because I need the right moment in the right look to pull it out. So, yeah, I don't know. Creative direction, that's something people. Now that's probably something people would be surprised, but I feel like I'm very creative. Like, I always have a lot of ideas. I'm very good with, like, aesthetics and things of that nature. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure I have some more. If I could sit here and think. But I think that's. That's a good little list.
Lex P.
That's a good. That's. That is a good little list. And like I said, I think, like, as an adult, one thing that people feel like, oh, I don't have a hobby, but I'm like, I think people need to start trying things more. Like getting out of your zone. I feel like people just kind of have a schedule. There was somebody on TikTok that did that. They said, I'm gonna stop living for the weekend. I'm gonna get off work and I'm gonna do things. And it's hard because if you do work a 9 to 5, you get off work by the time you get home, maybe go to the gym or cook dinner, you be tired. But she was like, I'm not doing that no more. I'm gonna actually get off work and go do something before I get home. Because life will literally go by so fast if you're literally just living for the weekend, five days, and you're not doing anything but working, going home and going to sleep and going to the gym, like, that's it. And then you live for, you know, half a day, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then you start it all over again. So I want to encourage people to find your hobby as an adult. Or maybe there's things that you like doing as a kid that you don't do anymore that you probably still enjoy. Like I said, me, I love a good cartoon movie. When my nephew be like, oh, this movie's coming out. I'm like, oh, darn it, I gotta take you. I'd be happy as hell. I love a good cartoon movie. So I think sometimes we need an escape as an adult. What about you, Todd? What's a good hobby that you like to do?
Ty
When I'm ready to just, like, let my hair down, I'm a karaoke girl.
Dre Nicole
Ooh. I wanna just go belt it out,
Ty
do all my favorite songs with my friends. I also love puzzles. So that, for me, like, is a nice Release, but also helps me be strategic and, like, it really gives me, like, a release in my mind. And then traveling. Yeah, traveling and experiences doing things like you said, different experiences. Candle making, perfume blending. All types of things that aren't, like, really traditional that we can now get our hands, like, interactive with. And yeah, just like, traveling. Going out the country.
Lex P.
I love you. Love.
Ty
My favorite thing is to leave this place, bro. For sure.
Lex P.
I feel like every time I look up Tyler Plum, I'm like, where she at now? She's working on a boat somewhere, you know? You know what else? I think I talked about this before. I like to play that numbers game. You know the numbers game where you, like, have to slide them and they have to add up together. I will put. It's kind of like that, but it's like on the computer or on your phone when I tell you, like, if I feel a little anxious or overwhelmed and I don't feel like really watching tv and I just kind of want to distract my brain, I would play that game for hours. Play that game for hours. So, yeah.
Dre Nicole
But yeah, it's a lot of things, though, that I think about. Like, when I was a kid, I'd be like, damn. Because I feel like I used to have so many hobbies when I was a kid, and I would try everything. And I just wonder sometimes if I would have stuck with things, how much better I would be at it by now. Because, like, I actually used to be really, really good at drawing. I used to play the flute. I used to be really good at playing the flute. I was like, second chair. I feel like, damn, if I would have stuck with that, who knows why? I could have took it. I used to praise dance. Not that I probably would still be doing that, per se.
Lex P.
I can see you doing that.
Dre Nicole
Do they have adult praise dance?
Lex P.
Hell, yeah, they do. Hell, you could have played your flute simultaneously killing Lizzo.
Dre Nicole
Like, I guess at my church, it was more so something. But, like, the kids, like, we had our teacher or whatever, but it wasn't like a group. We used to. I used to be in choir, and I actually can kind of hold a little note, but I be really playing a lot on Poor Minds. But in real life, like, I really can kind of hold a note and sing a little bit. So sometimes I do just be thinking, no, I really can't.
Lex P.
I know that. I know that's right.
Dre Nicole
But anyway, so, yeah, so I just be wondering too, like, if I would have took singing classes and really just took it serious, like, what I could have did with it.
Wheezy
This is wheezy. WTF from decisions, decisions. You know, a lot of us grew up not fully trusting the healthcare system. And honestly, the system has given us plenty of reasons to feel that way. But now it's time for us to take control of the conversation, to take control of our sexual health, learn the facts, ask questions, and advocate for ourselves. That's how we start changing the story. So let's talk. We like to think HIV is something that affects other people, but it is hitting our own community hard. Black women make up about 13% of women in the US but account for nearly half of all new HIV diagnoses around women. And being proactive doesn't mean you just don't trust your partner. It just means you trust yourself enough to stay in control. So know your options, ask questions, and protect your peace and your body. That's real power. Because protecting yourself isn't embarrassing, it's responsible. Sex is normal. Protecting yourself should be normal too. Actually, it's kind of badass. Taking control of your sexual health is grown woman energy. Sponsored by Care for the Culture from Gilead Sciences.
Shopify Business Owner
Okay, so quick behind the scenes moment about my business because people always ask me like, how do I actually run everything? So Shopify is literally the platform where I turned this tiny idea into a business. But before this, I was really just like popping up at any in person event, any vending opportunity I could, which I still do. But I wasn't really as focused online. I was like, you know, the websites are going to be too much to build out. I'm not like a super techie person, even though I can make things cute. And I didn't want to put up a website that would run my customers away. I wanted it to be efficient, to be easy. And Shopify helped me build brown girlgrinding.com out. Once I switched to Shopify, it finally clicked like, okay, I can actually do this. It's not about it being tough. It's about using the right platform to make it easy. Shopify takes all of the guesswork out. I build my own store, I manage my community, own my own customer relationships. Plus, this is my favorite thing. Shopify gets my products everywhere. I'm able to link stuff through Google, YouTube, TikTok, Shop the Shop app, even ChatGPT and Instagram, which is very important for me. And Shopify's AI co founder sidekick, game changer, let me tell y', all, right? So it's helped me not only optimize my site, it helps me look at my sales trends, it updates my product skills, all the stuff I'm absolutely not an expert in, but it's like having a genius business partner that never sleeps. And right now the Browngar grinding storefront is and the Black Effect storefront is busy and Shopify is handling all of the heavy lifting. I love that for us. I am pumped. Like so pumped that Shopify is going to show up at the Black Effect Podcast Festival this year in a big way and I will be there preaching this platform to all of the small black owned businesses that partner with us. So if you've been sitting on an idea or if you're ready to scale, which you've already started, this is your sign. Go to shopify.com Ben if I can do it, you can do it too.

Kal Penn
hey everyone, it's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Irsay The Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project Hail Mary Massive Sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone, very far from Earth.
Ray Porter
I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections and it's like okay, yo yo yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like no. At this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story. If I don't go through it. There's places in this book that deeply, emotionally affected me. And I left it on the mic. That's great because it served the story. People will say like, oh, my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too.

Listen to Irsay the Audible and iHeart audiobook club on the iHeartradio app or wherever you get your podcasts.
Lex P.
You could have been like the next Lizzo. Cause she plays the flute and she sings.
Dre Nicole
Yeah. I don't know if that would've been my thing, per se, doing both at the same time, but I do wonder how good I could have been there. Both separately. Yeah. Not together.
Lex P.
Not together.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, not together, but yeah.
Lex P.
I used to take hip hop classes, too.
Ty
Ooh, me too.
Lex P.
I used to do a boom catch. I was in there. We're doing an eight count.
Ty
Yeah.
Lex P.
See, I still got a little rhythm, but I'm just not a. Like, learning an eight count is hard.
Dre Nicole
A lot of work.
Lex P.
Like, they be doing them tiktoks. I'm like, I'm not doing that, bro. That's too much. But I feel like when I was younger, I definitely. I could learn an eight count like that. Now I'll be like, uh, I'm not doing that. The dances are harder now.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Ty
I was a cheerleader in pom pom for years.
Dre Nicole
See, really, I can.
Ty
I love a choreographed dance. But now at this big age.
Lex P.
No, like, absolutely.
Ty
You should get a drawing pad, though, and, like, just start sketching.
Dre Nicole
Maybe I should. My mom. I should do that. Me. It made me think about it. Cause me and my mom were actually talking about that the other day when she had called me on my birthday, and she was just like, I was looking through your stuff, and I saw all of these pictures that you used to draw. She was like. And I'm just like, I wonder, do you still be drawing? And I was like, no, I don't. And she was like, you should have kept doing it. You were so good. And her and my dad did. They used to keep, like, all of my drawings on the refrigerator and just all over the house and stuff. The last time I was. I was in art a lot, too, growing up. Like, in pretty much every year.
Lex P.
Yeah.
Dre Nicole
Until I graduated from high school, I was in art class.
Lex P.
I think people who can draw are just so interesting. Cause drawing. I got messy handwriting.
Dre Nicole
I can't draw.
Lex P.
I can't. None of that crayon. I can barely color in the line, bitch. Mm. Mm. I can't do it. My mom could draw. My sister can draw. They're both more, like, artsy and stuff like that. I just thought it was so interesting. Like, still, people can draw. Cause I'm just like. I remember we used to. I think I told this story before. We had this newspaper when we were younger, and you would draw and, like, submit your art, and if it was good, they would print it. I never. My art never made it. And one day, I just, like. I drew Tweety Bird, and it was so good. And my Tweety Bird was in the newspaper. I was like, yeah, I can draw Tweety Bird, bitch. Only, like, two shapes in drawing Tweety Bird. But still, I got it done.
Dre Nicole
Cause some people can only do, like, stick figures and stuff, so barely that.
Lex P.
Yeah, I can barely do that.
Dre Nicole
A stick figure.
Lex P.
Yeah. It gets a little tough on that neck. My neck be long sometimes. You know what I'm saying? But anyways, Todd, what we drinking today?
Ty
All right, so this one today is going to be called the PYT Pretty Young Thing. All right, so this is a low abv. However, if you want to add your own spirit of choice, you're more than welcome. Lex has some Tito's in hers. Dre, I actually went light on yours today. I didn't add any tequila or anything, but it does have some peach schnapps.
Shopify Business Owner
It had.
Ty
I made, like, this Roy Bose. It's like a South African tea that I use. I made a syrup out of it, and I also added some BlackBerry syrup and some lemon juice and then topped it off with a sparkling rose. Because this is, like, for the girls. This is, like, for the spring, the summer. All right? And then I garnish it with a couple blackberries on a skewer and some fresh mint. So this is the pyt, y'.
Lex P.
All. Yeah. You be doing a damn thing. I ain't know they had tea in South Africa.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, it's real good, Ty. And blackberries is one of my favorite fruit.
Ty
Yes.
Dre Nicole
Of all time.
Lex P.
So I like that.
Ty
Cheers, y'.
Dre Nicole
All.
Lex P.
Cheers. Thank you.
Dre Nicole
Thank you.
Lex P.
Let me taste mine.
Dre Nicole
Okay.
Lex P.
Real quick, though. Ty, I thought you was gonna know I came up here Sunday. Cause I had to do something. I tore that Tito's up.
Dre Nicole
That's why it's low.
Lex P.
Yeah. I put a dent in that motherfucker. It was me. It was me. I meant to.
Dre Nicole
Teddy Taos, definitely. Probably, like, who the hell been up in here?
Ty
I literally was like, Somebody's bent over here.
Lex P.
But it was me. I was. I said, ooh, let me make me a little. I said, nah, let me just pull it to it straight now. Okay, yeah, help yourself, girl.
Dre Nicole
It's yours.
Lex P.
Y.
Dre Nicole
Okay, so for topic number two, we. I wanted to talk about. Age ain't nothing but a number, which I do feel like it's kind of something that we talked about before, but in a different way. With this situation, though, I really want to play a little game and see if we know who's older out of two different people that are the same age. Okay, so let's see. Well, no, maybe. Damn. Maybe I said that wrong. Not two different people that said the same age. Cause then that gives it away.
Lex P.
Or. Yeah.
Dre Nicole
Cause you're supposed to be trying to guess if they are the same age
Lex P.
or guess who's older or whatever the case may be. I don't know. Shit. I be surprised if some people, when I see that are select, I'm like, oh, my gosh. I thought she was older than me.
Dre Nicole
Or I thought she was younger than me.
Ty
Same.
Lex P.
And not because of how they look, but how you carry yourself. The amount of money that you make. I'm like, how you got that much money and you only six? I'd be shocked. I mean, just with the tiktokers these days and all this stuff, I'd just be shocked at people being so successful at such a young age. So I think it's a lot of different factors than thinking if somebody's older or younger than you, for sure. Cause I don't know, some people really be shocking me, but I think people be shocked. Like, again, like we talked about before how old we are. I seen somebody say that the other day. They was like, God Damn, Lex, almost 40. Shut up, girl.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, I mean, for me, it definitely be the looks, though, that be the number one thing for me. Yeah, people be looking older than what they actually are. That's normally the reason why I think people are older. It's usually how they look like all of the other things, like maturity and stuff. I guess. Yeah, to a certain extent. But it be looks every time I be like, okay, I thought you was older than that.
Lex P.
Or sometimes I thought you were younger.
Dre Nicole
Younger is a compliment, though. Like, that's normally what people say about us. They be thinking that we look younger than what we are. To me, that's not like a bad thing.
Lex P.
That's not a bad thing.
Dre Nicole
It's.
Lex P.
To me, it's.
Dre Nicole
I ain't gonna say it's bad to look older, but it kinda is. It is. It's not a compliment. Like if you're like, if you're like 24 and people think you're 30. Yeah, that's not a compliment.
Lex P.
But I also think when people tell, and we've talked about this before, but when people tell us we look younger, I'm like, no, I don't. This is what a 36 year old woman looks like. Y' all are just some. I feel like this is what 36 year old. This is what 36 looks like, though. Now. I feel like we do a good job of taking care of ourselves. Like we're just more aware of health things. So I'm like, this is what, 36? No, I do not look like I'm 30. I look like a 36 year old, you know?
Dre Nicole
But you look like some 30 year olds. Cause they look 36.
Lex P.
You messed up.
Ty
What?
Lex P.
See that maybe is your hobby, what you like to talk.
Dre Nicole
No, but it's not. That's just like a fact though. Cause I'm a person too though. I don't see people and I don't say nothing. Like I'm very much one of those people who be judging. Yeah, I'mma think it. I probably ain't gonna say it though, unless it's a topic like it is on today's show. But I definitely feel like, yeah, people be looking like, that's never been a compliment. People thinking that you look older. I just, my God, I would be so upset if people thought I was older than I am.
Lex P.
Well, I'll say this. Most of the time when I'm off about somebody's age, it's because of their maturity and how they carry themselves. I'm like, oh my gosh, I thought you were older than that. Because maybe they have a certain amount of wisdom or the way they speak. I'm like, wow. Because I'm childish as fuck.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
So I like to chalk people thinking that I'm younger than I am. Not because of the way I look, it's because of the way I act. Yeah. Cause they feel like, bitch, when are you gonna grow up? And I just realized never. I'm okay with that. I'm just gonna be a stupid bitch forever.
Dre Nicole
But I don't know, I just, it makes me wonder too and think like, maybe people just don't know enough fun people. Cause I feel like we have a good balance of being serious and being fun. You know, Some people are just serious. And maybe that's the problem, like with generations before is they was serious.
Lex P.
Oh, they was hardcore. They were serious.
Dre Nicole
But that's cause life was serious.
Ty
Life was very hard.
Dre Nicole
Life was very hard.
Lex P.
Marvin Gaye said what's going on was
Dre Nicole
real in the field.
Lex P.
Cook was looking old and he died young.
Dre Nicole
He did, he did. But times was hard on the boulevard back then.
Lex P.
Yeah, it was.
Dre Nicole
It's still a little hard for us, but I think our generation just choose to handle things in a different way. Like, we love to have fun, we love to laugh. Like Ty said, she gonna go on a vacation. We all, we gonna go on vacation, we gonna have a good time, we gonna find the balance of like, okay, I might be going through some shit, but I'm still going to try to explain, enjoy myself and make the best of this one life that I have.
Lex P.
And if I'm being honest, like being older and having money helps. Like when I get fed, I'm like, let's go buy something or let me just fly home or let me just go somewhere real quick and just go eat and just. I can literally do whatever. So that definitely helps. I don't know who said, like, mo money, mo problems, like I'm having a
Ty
bow and free will.
Lex P.
Yeah.
Ty
No kids. You can just pick up and go. Nothing is holding you down or holding you from exploring, whatever you want to do.
Lex P.
And I don't care. Nobody will ever make me feel bad about being child free. Like, I'll be like, oh, your life is unfulfilled. Well, you know what? I'm doing what I'm supposed to do right now.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
Cause can you imagine? I know my mom used to be sick of me. Can you imagine? You just worked a 12 hour shift, you're tired and she was working at the plant. You're hungry. You walk through the door, you see me. Mm, mm. Hey girl, let me show you my new tap dance. Oh, hell no. I know she done had enough. She done had enough. So I'm like, no. I can literally be sad, go through my emotions. I can do whatever I want. I can plop on my couch and do whatever. But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dre Nicole
I mean, I don't know. I feel like different things are fulfilling for different people. For some people, they don't really want kids. I don't know why that be hard for people to grasp that some people really don't want kids. Hell, there's a lot of people that
Lex P.
didn't want them to have them and they shouldn't have. Yeah, but that's another tip.
Dre Nicole
I don't know why that's like hard for people to process. Everybody that has children right now did not want them necessarily.
Lex P.
I think people who want children and people who don't want to have children need to stop having conversations.
Wheezy
Yeah.
Lex P.
You don't understand them. They don't understand you. Stop trying to convince the other side.
Dre Nicole
I don't understand why it's so important, but what I do see a lot of the time is it be more so, in my opinion, just from the outside looking in, especially on social media, it always more so. Seem like it's people with kids, though. They be trying to, like, trying to convince people who don't have kids or people who don't want kids that their life is gonna be unfulfilled if they don't have them or trying to make them realize why they should. You know, I don't really see people, like, who don't have kids trying to convince people that do have kids that you made a bad mistake or a bad decision.
Lex P.
Well, I'll say. I think some. I think they used to do that to women a lot. Like, they would feel like, if you get pregnant, it's gonna ruin your career.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
And I think now that, you know, we see, like, a Beyonce or we see, like, a Cardi, like, they drop them kids and they still working, and they still doing what they gotta do. So the industry used to make people feel like it was a death sentence, but I'm not gonna lie, they was definitely doing that to my girl Cardi when she got pregnant, and she was just like, nah, let me show y' all what I'm finna do. Concert was fire, by the way.
Dre Nicole
It was.
Lex P.
It was.
Dre Nicole
Cardi's concert was.
Lex P.
We had a. You went?
Dre Nicole
Yes. From the copier.
Lex P.
I have. Oh, my God.
Dre Nicole
We had fun, too. It was a good time.
Lex P.
Good time. But, yeah, I just think it's. The times are a little bit different. So.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
I don't know.
Dre Nicole
I just think people should mind their business and they ovaries, like, do what you do. What make you happy. Like, leave people alone. Everybody don't want to have kids. I just do think, though, like you said, they should just stop talking, they should stop conversing all together, because you're never gonna see each other's perspective. I think a person who already has a child, like, you can't go back to and change that. So you're never going to see life from the perspective of somebody who has the free will to still not have one if they don't want to, or still or change their mind and have one. Right. Like, I don't Know, I just think it's a. It's a weird conversation. It be a little played out to me though. How you feel, Ty?
Ty
Yeah, I agree. I feel like do what y' all gonna do. I'm loving to see like the commentary online. A lot more from the people that don't have kids.
Dre Nicole
Cuz I'll be siding with it because I'll be like, yes, exactly. Go be.
Ty
Go frolic in the grass if you
Dre Nicole
want to at 5pm because my mama
Ty
used to go home, she come home from work and then go straight to the room and close the door. And I never understood it until now. Like you said, you don't work the whole 12 hour shift. I don't want to talk to none of you now.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, yeah.
Ty
And you ain't take that chicken out to uncle leave me alone.
Lex P.
And then my mom, you know, I had my friends over cause I had the party house. Then she got to come home to a bunch of white kids.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
It was time to start a riot.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
You know what I'm saying? So I definitely feel both crowds. Like having children is beautiful. I love my nephews. My sister. My sister loves being a mom. Like loves it. But I love being an aunt.
Dre Nicole
And I want to have kids, but I just don't care what other people choose. Yeah.
Lex P.
Yeah.
Dre Nicole
Like it's just never been something where I feel like I have to convince people that don't want to have kids that you should have some. And I think even once I do have them, I'm still not gonna be that person that's like, well, I got a kid. Why you? Well, why you don't wanna have one? Like, I just don't care. And I think kind of going back to what we were saying earlier, it just be so much shit I can't be bothered to care about normally. If it has nothing to do with me, I don't care.
Lex P.
Yeah.
Ty
Yeah, agreed.
Dre Nicole
Yeah. It's like, that's your life, that's your coochie. Do what you want, boo.
Ty
Stretched out enough.
Dre Nicole
Yeah. Okay, okay.
Lex P.
But we gotta do some examples.
Dre Nicole
Okay. The first one. Beyonce versus Britney Spears. Who do y' all think is older?
Lex P.
Britney Spears.
Dre Nicole
I would say so too.
Lex P.
I think Britney Spears is older.
Dre Nicole
No, she not. But I know that for a fact.
Lex P.
Beyonce. Wow.
Ty
How much older?
Lex P.
She said wow.
Dre Nicole
Only a few months.
Lex P.
Okay. But again, I think that's just how I know. For me, it's because I've been seeing Brittany since the Mickey Mouse pause.
Ty
That's what I was gonna say. We just known Brittany longer.
Dre Nicole
What Pause. Morgan is saying it's not right. But on the card it says three months. Beyonce's birthday isn't.
Lex P.
Yeah. Oh, Brittany is older.
Dre Nicole
But I thought Britney was a Sagittarius.
Ty
The following year.
Lex P.
Oh, so Britney is older.
Dre Nicole
Right?
Lex P.
So we were right then.
Dre Nicole
No, I thought Beyonce is older.
Lex P.
That's what I'm saying.
Dre Nicole
Like, I'm not tripping. Beyonce's birth. Beyonce's a Virgo. Britney Spears is a Sagittarius. So Beyonce. So Beyonce is three months older.
Lex P.
Okay. Okay. Yeah, yeah. So you were right.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
Okay, so Beyonce is older. But like I said, I felt like Brittany was older just because I've been seeing Brittany longer on the Mickey Mouse club when she was a mover and a shaker. Yeah, by the time Beyonce. I think the first time we saw Beyonce, well, she was on, like, Star Search, but we didn't know. Yeah, we didn't know what was going on. But by the time Beyonce was 15, that's when we started seeing her. So I saw Britney first, so I just assumed she was older. Not because of the low rise panties. Yeah, you know, the low rise will
Dre Nicole
give it away a little bit, though. But then low rise panties is coming back. Everything be coming back in style. Everything be coming back in style, though. Everything be having these full circle moments. But y' all knew Britney was older just. Cause I knew they were the same age. And then I know Beyonce birthday is in September, and I knew. I don't know when Britney Spears birthday is, but I knew she was a Sagittarius.
Lex P.
Yeah, she acts like it 1000% acts like a sag. That's saying. Cause my best friend is a Sagittarius.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, mine is Sue. But she acts like. Okay, Rihanna versus Adele.
Lex P.
Okay, I'm gonna say Adele only because Adele, when we were introduced to Adele, she was singing ballads on 21. Hello from Niche that we saw Rihanna
Dre Nicole
turn to a partying pawn day.
Lex P.
Replay ponde. Replay wagwan. A bumba clot.
Dre Nicole
Okay, that's Jamaican.
Lex P.
Well, same thing. They fall in the Caribbean. They cousins. They cousins.
Dre Nicole
They cuz them Caribbean people gonna cuss your ass out. I'm sorry.
Lex P.
Y' all know I ain't mean it. The only reason I say Adele, like I said, because I saw Rihanna in her party stage. We never really saw Adele in her party stage. We seen Adele in that Jamaican outfit, though. She did party that one time.
Dre Nicole
Adele.
Lex P.
Yeah. She had on a Jamaican outfit on the. Well, not Jamaican. It was the Caribbean. The carnival.
Dre Nicole
Oh, carnival.
Lex P.
Yeah. Yeah. She said Wagwan. For real. She was good, though.
Dre Nicole
I wanted for me and Jamaican.
Lex P.
Oh, I don't know. I don't know. But who's older?
Dre Nicole
Well, I don't know, but I'm just gonna take a guess.
Lex P.
Okay.
Dre Nicole
Rihanna.
Lex P.
Okay.
Dre Nicole
Only because again, me with people, birthdays and knowing when they are. I know Rihanna is a Pisces. And I think Adele. I don't know. I think she might be a tourist maybe. Okay, thank you. Adele is made fifth night. Oh, wow.
Lex P.
I did not know that Adele was a Taurus.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, she is interesting. All the great ones are.
Lex P.
Yes.
Dre Nicole
Okay, so, yes. Chris Brown versus Daniel Kahlua.
Lex P.
I'm gonna say again, I'm just doing it by. Well, see, I can't do it by that. Cause I said I've been seeing Britney Spears for so long. Cause we've been seeing. We saw Chris first. But again, I would say maturity levels. I would say Daniel Kahlua is older. That's just the vibes he gives me. But he's so low key. We never see him unless he got a movie to do. We ain't seen him since he was playing Fred Hampton.
Dre Nicole
What you think?
Lex P.
I agree.
Ty
He just seems more mature, more calm tempered. Chris Brown gives a little bit more.
Lex P.
He's still doing back. He doing a Blackfoot right now. Moonwalking and singing and fucking. He just had to keep lying all that.
Dre Nicole
He doing everything we doing. I be moon walking and crying too.
Lex P.
Hey.
Dre Nicole
Okay, I don't know. I don't know the answer to this one, but I would. Let me guess. Chris Brown. No.
Lex P.
Daniel Kalua is older by the.
Dre Nicole
February 24th. Chris Brown is May 5th, 1989. Okay.
Lex P.
February 24th. And Chris Brown is what, May 5th?
Dre Nicole
Not. Him and Adele got the same birthday.
Lex P.
Oh, okay, cool.
Dre Nicole
Okay, let's do.
Lex P.
Damn. Somebody finally older than me. Who?
Dre Nicole
Daniel Kaluua.
Lex P.
Yeah, I'm always the oldest one.
Dre Nicole
Ludacris versus Kanye West.
Lex P.
Ooh. I would say Kanye.
Dre Nicole
Ludicrous.
Ty
I must say Ludicrous.
Dre Nicole
That man named Ludicrous.
Lex P.
Woo. Public bathroom. That's my.
Dre Nicole
That's my vote. I think that's all of our votes. Yeah, I'm gonna go, Luda.
Lex P.
Well, I said. I said.
Dre Nicole
Oh, she said Kanye. Never mind. Yeah. Okay.
Lex P.
Kanye. June 8th. Ludicrous.
Dre Nicole
September. So Kanye older.
Lex P.
So Kanye older. Okay. All right.
Dre Nicole
Martin Luther King Jr. And Anne Frank.
Ty
Anne Frank.
Dre Nicole
I had to throw a little razzle dazzle in there.
Lex P.
Martin Luther King and Anne Frank. She was born in like 1600.
Dre Nicole
No, the fuck she was born.
Lex P.
She had to have been.
Dre Nicole
No, she wasn't. She was alive.
Lex P.
The Diary of Anne Frank she was
Dre Nicole
alive around the same time as mlk. Just different parts of the world and different centuries.
Lex P.
Oh, you know.
Dre Nicole
No, it was during. It was around the same time, just different countries.
Lex P.
I got her confused with Helen Keller. Bitch.
Dre Nicole
When was she born?
Lex P.
In the 1600s. For real? I don't know, but it was long time.
Dre Nicole
I feel like you just making some shit up, Ty. Look and see. When Helen Keller was alive.
Lex P.
This is.
Dre Nicole
She was deaf and blind.
Lex P.
Oh Lord. Why?
Dre Nicole
I started feeling for some.
Lex P.
Cause you had the feeling you had to get in character.
Dre Nicole
Damn.
Lex P.
She lived a long life. Who?
Dre Nicole
Helen Keller.
Ty
Helen Keller was born in June 27, 1880.
Dre Nicole
Wow.
Ty
She lived all the way to June 1, 1968.
Dre Nicole
Damn.
Lex P.
Damn. Yeah. You know why? Cause she couldn't see or hear these niggas. Yeah, straight up stress free.
Wheezy
This is Weezy. WTF from Decisions Decisions. You know, a lot of us grew up not fully trusting the healthcare system. And honestly, the system has given us plenty of reasons to feel that way. But now it's time for us to take control of the conversation, to take control of our sexual health. Learn the facts, ask questions, and advocate for ourselves. That's how we start changing the story. So let's talk. We like to think HIV is something that affects other people, but it is hitting our own community hard. Black women make up about 13% of women in the US but account for nearly half of all new HIV diagnosis around women. And being proactive doesn't mean you just don't trust your partner. It just means you trust yourself enough to stay in control. So know your options, ask questions and protect your peace and your body.
Before this, I was really just like popping up at any in person event, any vending opportunity I could, which I still do. It's not about it being tough, it's about using the right platform to make it easy. Shopify takes all of the guesswork out. I build my own store, I manage my community, own my own customer relationships. Plus this is my favorite thing. Shopify gets my products everywhere. I'm able to link stuff through Google, YouTube, TikTok, Shop the Shop app, even Chat, GPT and Instagram, which is very important for me. And Shopify's AI, co founder, sidekick, game changer, let me tell y', all right? So it's helped me not only optimize my site, it helps me look at my sales trends, it updates my product skills. All the stuff I'm absolutely not an expert in. But it's like having a genius business partner that never sleeps. And right now the Bronco grinding storefront and the Black Effect storefront is busy and Shopify is handling all of the heavy lifting. I love that for us. I am pumped, like so pumped that Shopify is going to show up at the Black Effect Podcast Festival this year in a big way. And I will be there preaching this platform to all of the small black owned businesses that partner with us. So if you've been sitting on an idea or if you're ready to scale, which you've already started, this is your sign. Go to shopify.com Ben if I can do it, you can do it too.

Kal Penn
hey everyone, it's Kal Penn. I'm the host of Irsay The Audible and iHeart Audiobook Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project, Hail Mary Massive sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone, very far from Earth.
Ray Porter
I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections. And it's like, okay, yo, yo, yo. Is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no. At this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that. That deeply, emotionally affected me, and I left it on the mind. That's great because it served the story. People will say like, oh, my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too.

Dre Nicole
How do I tell you? They called our friend Kili Nick?
Lex P.
Why?
Dre Nicole
I don't know.
Lex P.
What?
Dre Nicole
I don't know.
Lex P.
That is not a good nickname. I don't know.
Dre Nicole
I guess, like. Cause it's Kellen with a K instead of Helen with a H. He would call her Helen Keller.
Lex P.
Oh, my gosh.
Dre Nicole
And I be like, stop calling him oh, my gosh. Okay.
Lex P.
Anne Frank.
Wheezy
Yeah.
Lex P.
Which I thought I'm gonna say, Anne Frank is older. She was writing that. She was singing Hotel when she was writing her dia. I'm just saying, man. It's not funny. She was going through it. So I'm gonna say Anne Frank, man.
Dre Nicole
Girl, wait.
Lex P.
Just think of me in the pages in your diary.
Dre Nicole
I'm gonna say the same thing. Just. Cause you know, I won't say why. That's my answer.
Lex P.
Okay.
Ty
Surprisingly, no. It was Martin Luther King was older, January. And then hers is June 12th.
Dre Nicole
Wow.
Ty
That's crazy, right?
Lex P.
I don't know why I thought she was like, 1600, baby.
Ty
That's crazy.
Dre Nicole
I don't know why you thought that either. Cause I did know that it was in the 1900s.
Lex P.
I thought it was the 1600.
Dre Nicole
It's just. She was. Yeah, that was over In Europe, and then we were here in the United States.
Lex P.
Yeah, I ain't know.
Dre Nicole
Did you know she was Jewish?
Lex P.
Oh, yeah. She was. Yeah. Yeah. Shout out to my girl.
Dre Nicole
She was Jewish. The whole Nazi thing with Hitler.
Lex P.
Yeah. Okay, now it's coming back now.
Dre Nicole
He was a tourist.
Ty
What's even crazy crazier is that Helen Kelly died the same year Martin Luther King died.
Lex P.
They died the same year.
Ty
1968.
Lex P.
That's crazy. Well, now, how did she die?
Ty
I don't know.
Dre Nicole
Let me go back and see.
Lex P.
This tea is getting hot.
Ty
It is, right?
Dre Nicole
Helen Keller?
Lex P.
Yeah.
Dre Nicole
Probably of natural causes.
Lex P.
No, natural.
Dre Nicole
She was old as fuck.
Lex P.
Martin Luther King wasn't old as fuck when he died.
Dre Nicole
I thought you said. How did. Helen Keller died.
Lex P.
Oh, no, we said Anne Frank.
Ty
She passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Lex P.
Who? Anne Frank.
Ty
Helen Kelly.
Lex P.
Oh, my bad.
Ty
Helen Keller died the same year as Martin Luther King. But she was born in 1880, so she. She lived the longest of all three of them.
Dre Nicole
She lived a long life.
Ty
And she died peacefully of natural causes.
Dre Nicole
And Frank died as a baby. I mean, well, not a baby, but she was. Lex. You did not pay attention in history. Cause what the fuck? I could have told you. Who lives longer between Helen Keller and Frank? She was a child when she died. Yeah, that's the whole big thing about it. Well, that. And that's why her diary is so
Ty
important, because she was writing them in the attic when she was hiding out from them.
Lex P.
I remember that. Wasn't it in where I went?
Wheezy
Amsterdam.
Lex P.
Was it something in Amsterdam? I went there.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
Yep.
Dre Nicole
See the concentration camp something? I went.
Ty
No, it's the museum of.
Lex P.
The Museum of Anne Frank.
Dre Nicole
I went there.
Lex P.
That's why I said it was coming back to me. That's. That Tito's. I knew I had to refresh my memory.
Dre Nicole
Speaking of Anne Frank, though, can anybody tell me why. Why the hell did Andre 3000 say that on that song?
Lex P.
What did he say?
Dre Nicole
He said, I love who you are I love who you ain't you. So, Anne Frank, let's hit the attic
Ty
and hide out for about two weeks.
Lex P.
What?
Dre Nicole
Cause why would he say that?
Lex P.
It's crazy, people.
Dre Nicole
This is like one of them things where we be, like, questionable. Who cleared this in the studio?
Lex P.
They shouldn't have cleared that.
Dre Nicole
That's actually a sad.
Lex P.
It's a sad story.
Dre Nicole
I think she said, ann can't do nothing.
Lex P.
I mean, her family.
Dre Nicole
Can he say nothing bad? He just said, like, you. So, Anne Frank, let's hide out for two weeks.
Lex P.
I don't like that. I don't like that.
Dre Nicole
You don't like it.
Lex P.
Mm.
Dre Nicole
Mm.
Lex P.
That's a sad story. Cause I was thinking you acting like
Dre Nicole
you just found out, not with the
Lex P.
pages in your diary. My memory has been refreshed and I don't like it. I don't like that, bro.
Dre Nicole
It be a lot going on on the Internet. Like, I be falling down deep holes and stuff. So they be making this pie, which is like, it's nothing. Wait, go ahead. It's nothing but flour, water, and sugar.
Lex P.
Oh, yeah.
Dre Nicole
A water.
Lex P.
Yes.
Dre Nicole
And they be saying that it tastes like apple pie, but when it got popular was like during the.
Lex P.
The Great Depression.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, no, not the Great Depression. That was here in the United States. But yeah, maybe Great Depression, but I thought it came from over there during, like, the Nazi they got.
Lex P.
I see. I saw that too. But how does it taste like apple pie if it ain't got no apples?
Dre Nicole
I don't know. I guess that's the science behind it. That's what makes it interesting. It's like. Like once you let it sit, it tastes like apple pie, they say. I see they add a little cinnamon too, so maybe that's what make it taste like that.
Lex P.
Now I see when they do it with the Sprite too.
Dre Nicole
I did see that. But hey, I could with that because seven UP cake have you had.
Lex P.
Yeah, seven UP cake is tasty with that glaze on there. Yep, I like that.
Dre Nicole
Pretty good. So, yeah. So Anne Frank is younger than mlk.
Lex P.
Wow, that was a shocker.
Dre Nicole
Martha Luther, like my mama would say,
Lex P.
shout out to Ms. Barb.
Dre Nicole
All right, so now it's time to get into the bed Bow. The big bow. The big bow. Bow, bow, bow, bow, bow. Now, y' all know, per usual, the bed segment is brought to you by Sidex. So y' all know this is one of our faves. We love us some sort. Xo. I have been using Sodexo for years, and ph been balanced ever since. Well, I mean, it was balanced before that, but now it's really, really balanced. And I love not only just the normal size, but I also have the travel size. Y' all know, I just came back from my birthday vacation in Cabo and I had that salt XO with me. I don't leave the house without it.
Lex P.
Okay.
Dre Nicole
And outside of Coochie wash, they have so many other products. Like, they have the sweet release, which is your slippery elm. If you need a little assistance, or even if you don't, you just want to be a little wetter, get you Some sweet release the rejuve oil. Great for after getting a wax. Keeping those ingrowns and that hyperpigmentation away. Everything y' all need. SaltXO got it.
Lex P.
Shout out to Salt X. They my fave. I just did an updated shower routine too, so y' all go check that out. Salt XO is definitely in the rotation. So it is. Y' all go try that out. Go try it out. Could you be intimate with a man who talks in a baby voice during sex? First of all, I don't really like baby talk, period. I think baby talk is strange whether it's coming from a man or a woman. You know what I'm saying? I don't like it. But as a man, Thai face looks disturbing.
Dre Nicole
I don't suck this dick.
Lex P.
Is that how he says it? If he's not.
Dre Nicole
That doesn't sound like a baby.
Lex P.
Well, I don't. I'm not a baby.
Dre Nicole
That doesn't sound like a. Well, what does baby talk? I don't know. That sound like a pimp?
Lex P.
That sound like Cat Williams?
Dre Nicole
Yeah, I was gonna say.
Lex P.
Hold on, let me try that.
Dre Nicole
What was his name on Friday? Money Mike.
Lex P.
Yes.
Dre Nicole
That sound like Money Mike.
Lex P.
Okay, how does. What does baby talk sound like?
Ty
Like coochie goo Coochie goo goo goo.
Dre Nicole
Gaga. Can you suck this dick please, baby? When?
Lex P.
Yeah, that was better. Can you suck this dick, baby, please? Come on, babe, suck my dick, please. That was better. That was better, right?
Dre Nicole
Yeah, that was how they do. No, I don't know why I can't think of like what a baby voice.
Lex P.
But that's what baby voice is that. They're like, oh, come on, babe, suck my dick, please. Come on.
Dre Nicole
Just look at it. It's so beautiful. What you gonna do for big mama? For real?
Lex P.
Okay, you might like that shit.
Dre Nicole
No, I wouldn't like that though.
Lex P.
Yeah, I think it's a little weird.
Dre Nicole
Where's your. Put some bass in your boy. Yeah, be a man.
Lex P.
Yeah, I don't like that. I don't like baby talk. Like I've never been a baby talker.
Dre Nicole
It's different if that's your real voice. Like some men just have like soft, soft high pitched voices. That's okay.
Lex P.
A little Michael Jackson.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, that's okay if that's your voice. But it's like if you putting on a baby voice and doing baby talk while we having sex.
Lex P.
Pull the titties out, babe. I want to suck your tits
Dre Nicole
and whiny.
Lex P.
I was kidding, cuz babies whine.
Dre Nicole
Sometimes I think I be thinking I know you.
Lex P.
I'm trying to.
Dre Nicole
We have conversations and I be like, I don't know cuz this sound too much like a lived experience.
Lex P.
I was trying to keep.
Dre Nicole
This sound like some shit you really been through.
Lex P.
I was trying to give you an example.
Dre Nicole
Why was you making that face?
Lex P.
Come on babe, let me suck your tits. That sound like some shit you've been
Dre Nicole
through back in your day. For real?
Lex P.
Come on babe, let me suck your tits. Yeah, Lex done live through this. Oh God.
Dre Nicole
That's why she don't like it. You like it at an early age.
Lex P.
Oh God. Maybe I did hear it and I'm just like. And I pushed it in the back of my mind with Anne Frank. What? I'm just saying. I have a bad memory. I was just saying.
Dre Nicole
Cause I knew not you pushed all them to the back of your mind.
Lex P.
All of them. Oh my God, all of them. Okay.
Dre Nicole
But no, I don't like that though. I don't like no baby boys don't do that shit with me unless you try and get kicked out.
Lex P.
But what if it's something like he's into and you don't want to embarrass him, but it's somebody you like? How do you have that?
Dre Nicole
I don't like him if he doing it.
Lex P.
But you didn't know.
Dre Nicole
Now I know and now I don't like him.
Lex P.
So that X's out everything, bro? Yes.
Dre Nicole
That's so weird. That's so weird. I feel like you gotta trust people for who they tell you they are and show you who they are the first time. You're a little weird.
Lex P.
I'm not gonna lie. I've never heard a man do a baby voice though, like in general.
Dre Nicole
Because I also feel like sex is one of those things too where you gotta warm up to people. So if you doing that on the first encounter, like the first time that we. We having sex and you feel comfortable doing that, you're weird and it's more to come.
Lex P.
Oh, he's putting on a diaper.
Dre Nicole
Next time he's full, he gonna have a passy.
Lex P.
A bib.
Dre Nicole
No, bitch. Oh my God.
Lex P.
No.
Dre Nicole
Go away from me with this.
Lex P.
I agree, I agree quickly. And I don't like to kink shame, I really don't. I like to let people explore what they wanna do in their, you know, bed and things like that. But I just feel like that's a little too much. And again I be kind of side eyeing people who like stuff that have to do with babies, with the underaged.
Dre Nicole
How you feel about people that like baby food.
Lex P.
What baby food we talking? You know what? Cause baby food is actually not that bad.
Dre Nicole
Like, the vegetables are.
Lex P.
The vegetables are. But, like, when it's the fruit. Mm. The bananas are good.
Ty
Little banana, little pear.
Lex P.
I'm not gonna lie. And I feel like it's not baby food, but I still eat applesauce.
Dre Nicole
Oh, well, yeah, that's normal.
Lex P.
But that's how baby food tastes. It's just literally ground up whatever. So I don't feel like baby food is bad.
Dre Nicole
But now, like, don't pass them peas over here.
Lex P.
Yeah, don't pass them. But honestly, if you're buying baby food and that's what you're eating.
Dre Nicole
Cause he ready for to put that diaper on.
Lex P.
He wants him to put it in
Dre Nicole
the bag that's giving roll. Yeah.
Lex P.
Like, if I open your fridge and you got mashed peas and carrots. What's going on here? Okay, so we're gonna say no to the baby voice. I am so sorry, ladies and gents.
Dre Nicole
No. Yeah, I can't do it. I definitely feel like I don't know certain stuff be learned behaviors, though. So it's like what type of porn you be watching?
Lex P.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I feel like everything that people are into, you were introduced to it.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
So it's like, why do you like that so specifically? Like, what about a baby voice turns you on? Like, when I hear kids talking, I automatically get annoyed. Like, off the rip. I don't even care.
Dre Nicole
A child.
Lex P.
Yes. Oh, yes.
Dre Nicole
Me, Me.
Lex P.
Yes. I don't want to hear that. No, no. I don't like it outside of my nephews. And even my nephews be pushing it. Oh, my gosh. And see, Jack Jackson's voice is actually deep now, so it's so weird. Yes, yes. That's exactly how he sounds. It's so weird. But peeny. You know, his voice is still peeny. Peeny. He's still peeny.
Dre Nicole
So he still got a peeny voice.
Lex P.
I can only take so much. Lord, no.
Dre Nicole
Yeah. I don't. But I mean, essentially kind of women, when we have sex, we kind of sound like babies.
Lex P.
No, no, I ain't never.
Dre Nicole
I'm saddy. You gotta sound babyish a little bit. Cause I feel like nobody moan in they regular voice.
Lex P.
You do.
Dre Nicole
They don't.
Lex P.
You do.
Dre Nicole
I sound different when I'm fucking.
Lex P.
Okay, but that's what I'm saying. But I think baby voice is not so much what you're saying, but the tone.
Dre Nicole
That's what I'M saying, like, I think when women have sex, they don't nobody moan in they real voice. It be like a little bit more high pitched. It's a different tone.
Lex P.
Yeah, but it's still not babyish. It's still like grown. It sounds grown.
Dre Nicole
Do we.
Lex P.
No, I'm not. I was fitting to.
Dre Nicole
No, I wasn't saying do, but I was asking do we?
Lex P.
Yeah, it sounds more like grown.
Dre Nicole
I know what you sound like. You don't gotta do it for me.
Lex P.
How you know what I sound like?
Dre Nicole
You don't have to give me a demo. I've heard it.
Lex P.
Let's move on. So let us know how y' all feel about baby voices. It's a no for all three of us. All three of us.
Dre Nicole
Okay. It's a no for me.
Lex P.
So now it's time to get into the bow. Hey, about. About Bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow.
Dre Nicole
Ty over there doing the Macarena.
Lex P.
I love the Macarena. So I discovered this girl. I didn't. Obviously she's been doing music for a very long time. I didn't know. So y' all know the singer, Ray? She has that song, baby, where the Hell's My Husband? Anyways, she has a sister, and the sister can sing too. Chow. And I'm like, oh, my gosh. It runs in the family. So her name is Absolutely. And she has a song called I Just Don't Know youw Yet. And when I tell you it is a beautiful ballad, this song, it's not like an underground song. I know y' all probably done heard it, but I'm telling you, it's gonna have a good award season. I hope that she gets all the awards. Cause it's such a good song. It's one of those songs, like, when she performs it, she's gonna have to have a choir with her. It's like a very good ballad. And I'm telling you, music is still just so good. It's. It's such a good song. And it's just about not giving up on love. And how her next person is like, God sent. You know, she's like, I just don't know you yet. So. Absolutely the song. Oh, let me not do it wrong. You know, if you do it wrong three times, Duran pop up.
Dre Nicole
It's this one.
Lex P.
Uh huh. We gotta do it in the middle. Absolutely. I just don't know you yet. That's my bop of the week period.
Dre Nicole
Okay, so Kehlani just came out with a new album and I love it. I love her album. A few of my little favorite songs is I like I need you with Brandy. I like, should have never with Usher.
Lex P.
Okay.
Dre Nicole
I like call me back. Was he painting Little John?
Lex P.
I need to listen to that one.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, that's the one. That's the vibe right there. But to be honest, I mean, she has so many other great features on the album. Cardi B. Leon, Tommy's Big Sean. Yeah. But the album itself is just really, really good. And shout out to my girl, too, because she was Horus, too. We've been talking about tourists, but yeah,
Lex P.
so I listened to a few of the songs when I was getting ready, and I heard the song with her and Cardi. Pockets. I like Pockets.
Dre Nicole
Pockets is good. Yeah.
Lex P.
Yeah.
Dre Nicole
But it came out and I was actually listening to it on my flight when I was on my way to. To Cabo. So I listened to the whole album, and, yeah, I really love it.
Lex P.
Okay, shout out to Kaylani. Come on the show, girl.
Dre Nicole
Yes, girl, come sit on this couch with us.
Lex P.
Is it Kani or Kehlani Kay? Kaylani. Right. Okay. I be saying it wrong. Y' all know I be saying everybody name.
Dre Nicole
I probably be saying it wrong.
Lex P.
That's all right. That's all right. Y' all know we don't mean no harm.
Dre Nicole
Yes, we don't. Okay, so now it's time to get into our favorite segment of the show, which is pour your heart out. You know, if you have any questions, send them to ask poor minds Gmail dot com. That's a S k P O U R M I N D sgmail.com. hey, Lex and Drea, I love you both so much, and I'm really happy seeing you thrive. I'm in a new relationship, but I still want to stay friends with my ex, and it's causing tension. Honestly, I think we were always meant to just be friends. We build our relationship on friendship first, but once we committed, things fell apart. I feel like I was carrying everything financially, emotionally, mentally, and I even tried counseling before ending it. We broke up amicably, and the love that's left is strictly platonic. We were together for six years, and I had checked out long before the end. Now I've been in a new relationship for a year, and she's everything I want. She loves my daughter, supports our home, and is patient with me. I was upfront from the start about my relationship, about my friendship with my ex, and she said she was okay with it, but her actions say otherwise. She gets distant when my ex texts or when she. Or if she sees her on my Social media. I respected every boundary she's asked for and stayed transparent. But this keeps coming up. I don't want to lose my friendship with my ex because I truly believe that's what we're meant to be. But I also love my girlfriend. I feel stuck in the middle. I'd really appreciate your insight.
Lex P.
I feel like you have to ask yourself what's more important to you? I have kind of always been the girl where I'm like, cool with my exes. But I won't necessarily say we're friends, like, we're cordial, we're cool. Like, if they text me, oh, hey, how you doing? Whatever. It's just a high and by type situation. But if I was ever in a situation where the person I'm dating is like, hey, this makes me uncomfortable, then they're getting cut off, like, that's just how I feel. I think it's a respect factor and you have to put yourself in her shoes. How you would feel if she was cool with her ex and talking to them all the time and no shade, but it's like if y' all were together for six years and it was kind of, I don't want to say toxic because you didn't use that word, but it was all of these things. I don't even know why you're kind of holding on to that. I think when you move on and have new chapters in your life, it's okay to let people go. So you need to ask yourself why? Why is this friendship so important to you and why you're holding onto it if you've moved on. So I think you can move on and respect your girlfriend. That's just how I feel.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, I agree.
Wheezy
This is weezy. Taking control of your sexual health is grown woman energy sponsored by Care for the Culture from Gilead Sciences.

I used to think that was possible when I was younger because I had a ex that I was friends with and we were actually really cool for a really long time. Platonically. Like, it wasn't nothing romantic going on. It wasn't weird. We were strictly friends, but he still had feelings for me. It might not have been that on my end, but the feelings were still there on his end. And then when he ended up getting in a relationship, his girlfriend was not okay with that. Like she and I used to. Again, looking back to the situation, because this was like five, six years ago, I thought that she was being immature because she was a little younger than us. I was like, oh, she just being immature or whatever. But I can understand how being in a relationship with somebody new, you still being friends with your ex could trigger somebody. And it doesn't necessarily make the new person insecure. It's just kind of like, but what do you, what are you and the person you still to be need to be talking about?
Lex P.
Exactly.
Dre Nicole
I don't know. That's just me, though.
Lex P.
Agree.
Dre Nicole
And I feel that way with my own relationships. Like I don't necessarily want my and I don't even consider myself to be like a jealous person person or a person who be like Monitoring who? My exes. I mean, not my exes. Who my boyfriend hang around and stuff like that. Like, you could really have your own life and it's fine. But I would be curious if he wanted to still be friends with an ex. Cause why. I don't care about him having female friends. But an ex, though, why you want to still be friends with somebody that you used to be in a relationship with, that you used to be being intimate with? I just. It's a little disrespectful, in my opinion, to your new relationship.
Lex P.
Maybe she allows baby talk in the bedroom.
Dre Nicole
Maybe she do. Maybe she like that Goo Goo Gaga. What you think, Ty?
Ty
I think I agree. If it's a stressful situation, definitely cut it off. I do have some exes that are still friends, but we cool. We not like besties.
Dre Nicole
Yeah. Yeah.
Ty
Like, if he hit me up here in town, cool. We can go grab lunch. Like they married or whatever. But we gotta find our line. The fine line of the current relationship you in. If he get out of pocket. All right, I'm shutting it down immediately. But if you are in a situation and it's hurting you every time you see this person, like, my best friend just broke up with her boyfriend and they live. She moved out, but she living in the same neighborhood.
Lex P.
Oh, my God.
Ty
So they be running into each other. So even if she go to therapy this day and she feeling good and she run into him, that take her five steps back. So it's like sometimes you just gotta cut it off and just grow and, like, heal on your own separately, you know?
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Lex P.
And I think when people get comfortable with people, too, it's like a safe. You think it's a safe space because you've known this for so long. So you feel like, well, I don't know what my life looks like without you. Whether it's platonic or romantic. You don't want to let that go. But it's like, it be time.
Dre Nicole
Yeah.
Ty
Be trying to hold on to that little bit of familiar.
Dre Nicole
A little bit of something. Yeah. Yeah. I mean. And I do agree with Ty. I guess I never really thought about it like that. A little lunch or something here and there. I mean, I guess that ain't really a problem. But, like, if you talking to them on the phone, like, y' all be on the phone, chopping it up on the phone for like an hour, you always texting them. Y' all got group chats and shit. Like, what the hell y' all talking about all the time? But, like, a little lunch Here. And there ain't nothing wrong with it, especially if you're bringing the other person into the situation as well. Yeah. You know, like, oh, yeah, my ex in town. We gonna go have lunch. You wanna come?
Lex P.
Exactly. Well, or even if they.
Dre Nicole
Well, I mean, even if they don't wanna come, but just still letting them know, like, yes.
Ty
Be transparent at.
Dre Nicole
Okay.
Lex P.
Yeah. Yeah. And also, I feel like if it was a situation, like, if you care that much and you didn't state that, but, like, have they met each other? Maybe that'll make her feel better if, like, she met the ex. You know what I'm saying? So I think a lot of things can happen, but is there a reason they haven't met? If they haven't met, you know? So if the friendship is that important to you, just like the relationship, maybe they just need to be around each other a little bit more, you know?
Dre Nicole
Yeah. I don't know.
Lex P.
Yep. All right. Hey, poor minds. I need yalls opinion. My ex had a girls trip planned to Miami for her friend's birthday. I was originally supposed to go too, but then her friend made a comment like, you don't want to see us in Miami alone. And it just rubbed me the wrong way. On top of that, this friend has said things before about how she misses dick and she comes before my relationship. So I was already feeling a little uneasy. I expressed all of this to my girlfriend and told her it made me feel uncomfortable and insecure. I even said that if she still chose to go, I'd probably want to break up. After she told her friend how I felt, somehow it turned into me not being invited on the trip anymore. So now I'm stuck wondering was I wrong for feeling like that and setting that boundary, or did I overreact? And based on everything, do you think this is something worth revisiting or is it a sign I should just leave it alone? Well, you said she's your ex, so that kind of confused me. But also, this is one thing that I to realize in my adult years. If somebody tells you how they feel, you can think it's silly. You can think it's not a big deal, but you still need to acknowledge their feelings because they feel some type of way. So the fact that you expressed your emotions and how you felt and they tried to uninvite you and make you feel less than that lets you know how they feel about you. I have never had somebody close to me express how they felt about me. And I was just like, girl, you trippin. I don't give A fuck. Well, probably in my younger years, but now. So I think that tells you all you need to know about the girl and her friend. Fuck them. Mm.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, I don't really have much to say about that. Cause I do feel like fuck them too.
Lex P.
Yeah. Talking about you, Ms. Dick. Well, go get some, bitch.
Dre Nicole
But, you know, the older we get, I be trying to give more, you know, elaborate answers to say, fuck them. Yeah. But I used to just be like, girl, fuck them hoes. Yeah. But no, fuck them. For real.
Lex P.
Yeah. It's a little weird just not to acknowledge my feelings. Like you're not acknowledging how I feel at all. If I tell somebody how I feel and they brush me off, you ain't never gotta worry about me opening up to you ever again. And yes, it's that serious. I just. That's how I am. So I think a lot of people need to evaluate their friendships, relationships. If somebody opens up to you and you shut them down and you make them feel like whatever you A. Yeah. Point blank, period.
Dre Nicole
I agree. That's why people don't be wanting to open up to people, period, in the first place. Because, yeah, you be thinking you people, you friends with people and they care about you, but then people will show you that they don't. And I think that's a clear sign that they don't really care.
Lex P.
Agreed.
Dre Nicole
So, yeah. What you think, Ty?
Lex P.
I agree. Yeah, wholeheartedly.
Dre Nicole
Yeah, them. Them people.
Lex P.

So many people were in the comments asking me about my birthday dress that I wore in Cabo, and that's where I got it from. And I had some issues with another dress that I was trying to order from another company. And the dress was similar to the one that I ended up getting. And the other company, their customer service was just trash. As if I'm being honest. But I ended up hitting up this woman. I found her on etsy, but I DM'd her on Instagram. We were communicating. She. I paid for the dress. She sent it out the next day. She told me she could get it here in two, three days, which was like, we were in the nick of time because I had to go on my trip and I was just nervous that it wasn't gonna get here. She way in Turkey. But the dress got here. But the dress got here in like two, three days. And it's just so beautiful.
