It's another year of being great, and I feel like every year, you just become more of a woman that I'm just happy to say. I'm so glad to call you friend. Thank you, sister, business partner. Watching you grow on the show with Muse Beauty. Just you personally as well, and watching you take care of yourself, watching you grow, it's just been such an amazing journey, and it's so much fun. I feel like we are in a chapter of fun. Like, life is so good right now, and I'm so blessed that God brought us together and that we've been able to do this journey together. I don't want to get emotional, but, I mean, we're about to go on tour again. We are, and it's so exciting because this tour is going to be so good. And we have built something just so beautiful and special. The fact that I know we get dragged a lot, and people say things about you and say things about me, and they try to pin us against each other, but you don't. Nobody can understand this but me and you. Like, nobody understands the bond that we have and the love that we have for each other. So I think the fact that the community that we've built just off of our love alone just says so much. And, of course, poor moms would be nothing without you. And I'm just so happy to call you my sister and my best friend. And cheers to 35 is a good year.

Thank you very much. That was very, very heartfelt. And we have came such a long way. Like, we have accomplished so much. This past year has just been insane. And what I was about to say is it's so crazy to think about the fact that it's been a whole year since Ty did her birthday speech last year. I'm like, where do the time be going? It's been a whole 365 days. That's crazy. It doesn't seem like it. Like, my God. I always keep seeing these posts, like, online that say that time has started moving differently after the pandemic. Like, it's like we're in this time warp. And sometimes I don't know if that's necessarily true or is it just like, life is really that short? You know? Like, I'm like, is time moving quicker than it was before, or is it because that happened? It's like, making us have, like, a different type of appreciation or reverence for time? So it seems like it's moving quicker because all of that time was lost, that we were just kind of inside, not able to move around. Like, essentially, it's kind of like a year and a half, two years of our lives kind of like, taken away from us. So I'm like, does it really feel that way, or is this how fast time has always moved? I don't know. But, like, either way, I'm just grateful. I'm grateful. It's been an amazing year. And I'm just so excited to just see all of the things that keep happening for us with poor minds that just, you know, keep happening for me. And just constantly growing and evolving as a woman and as a person is just always something that's been really important to me. Like, I really pride myself on that. I never want to be a person who is the same person or in the same place that I was the year before. So progression is always the goal. So for you and always, like, people around me to tell me that they see the constant growth in me and stuff is such a compliment. Because I think that's important in life. Like, you want to always be growing and evolving. So.

[Lex P]

Yeah. What are your goals for this year for 35? Hmm.

[Drea]

To be honest, I don't really. I feel like every year of my life, I set so many goals for myself. So this year I just really wanna focus on being present. And I told my therapist that too. Cause I have a new therapist. And, like, me and her have just been talking and, like, one of the main themes of our conversations is always her telling me I need to give myself more grade. And I don't want to get emotional, but it's like, oh, my God. I feel like I have always struggled with that. Like, I'm so hard on myself. It's not that I think I'm a. I don't think I'm a perfectionist necessarily, but I think I just always want to be really good at everything that I do or everything that I apply myself to. And so when you're constantly trying to level up and you're constantly trying to work on your goals and get better than you were the year before or the age that you were before, I think sometimes you don't slow down to appreciate how far you've come and just appreciate where you are, because you always trying to move forward and get to the next thing. And so I feel like I just don't. And then I'm always just being hard on myself when I mess up. Like, and I want to be, again, easy on myself when I say mess up, because. Mess up to who? To myself?

[Lex P]

I was about to ask that, when was the last time, like, you messed up?

[Drea]

But that's what I'm saying to me, you know what I mean? And I think a lot of the time we could be our toughest critic. So when I do something and I feel like it wasn't my best, I don't think I give myself enough grace. Or if I react to something in a way that I feel like, oh, you bigger than that, or you've grown so much, you should have reacted different. Like, and maybe I should have. But at the end of the day, we're all humans, and it's okay that you not perfect all the time. It's okay that you don't handle things the way that you should all the time. And I just think I always have had, like, an issue with giving myself grace. Like, I always am really hard on myself. So this year, I just really want to be present and focus on really being happy because I have some. So many things to be happy about, so many things to have gratitude for. And I just want to, like, live in the moment because I don't want life to pass me by. Like, I don't want these next five years of my life to pass me by. And then I'm 40, and I'm looking back at all of the great times from when I was 35 that I didn't live in because I was so focused on the next chapter.

So that's the major goal.

Yeah. I think that that's something that we all need to do as humans. It sounds so cliche. Cause it's like a meme that pops up all the time. And it's like, you're living right now what you used to be praying for.

[Drea]

And it's so crazy because I'm always doing this and we're always doing that. We're always like, we gotta do this, we gotta do that. And it's like. But, girl, like, do you realize, like, what you have done, right? You have a successful cosmetic business. You're running a very successful talk show. You know, like, you have employees. You got two businesses. You got two sets of employees, bitch. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, there was a time where you

were just at the bar trying to

[Lex P]

make a Henny and Coke.

[Drea]

We was just sitting on the floor drinking barefoot.

[Lex P]

You know what I'm saying? Like, you.

[Drea]

We used to pray for times like this.

[Lex P]

And it sound.

I mean, word to Meek Mill, he was on to something.

[Drea]

Yeah.

And I mean, all jokes aside, and I think that's what we have to do. We have to realize, like, yes, still work towards your next goals, but sometimes let's just relax and smell the roses.

[Drea]

Yeah, I agree. I agree. And I just. Again, I think that that's something that has just always been really difficult for me to do. Like, I'm always pushing myself, pushing myself, pushing myself. And sometimes you just got to give. Give yourself a break, Give yourself a little grace and have appreciation for how far you come. Like, it's nothing wrong with wanting to excel. Nothing wrong with wanting to push the envelope and break. Because I. I don't know, it's almost kind of like when it comes to poor minds. And I don't know if I ever said this publicly before, but especially now with us being in the position that we in, I feel a sense, like, a. A lot of duty, if that makes sense. Because, yeah, like, I feel like a sense of duty. And it's something that I didn't feel four years ago or five years ago, just because I do feel like you and I are in a very privileged position. And it's so many eyes on us, and we're breaking so many barriers. And in doing that, you're creating opportunities for other people and for generations behind us. So it's like, that's really important to me, you know, to keep being on that path and keep knocking down doors and showing people with, like, two young black women from Texas that just came to Atlanta with a dollar, and it was $3. $3 a dream.

[Lex P]

Come on, get my stuff.

[Drea]

$3 in a dream can really do, you know what I mean? With, like, no blueprint, no plan, no nothing. Like, we really came out here just winging it and we chased our dreams and we really making shit happen. And now it's like a full blown business. Like, this is a real business.

[Lex P]

It's strict.

[Craig]

It is.

[Drea]

I mean, and I don't know that that's something that I had ever felt before, but we are, in doing what we're doing, creating so many different opportunities, not just for ourselves, but for other people. And it's a lot of pressure that come with that. And I think maybe that's another thing that be making me feel like I need to give myself a little bit more grace. But it's only something that I started to feel over the past few years as the show has, like, continued to grow, because I just think it's so important for us to be two black women in this space that are remembered for shaking the table and making shit happen and, like, being the first.

[Lex P]

But I think that's a good feeling to have. But I also think life is about balance, right? Because I think as much as we are here to break down doors and break down barriers, I'm still here to have a good time. Life is short. I'm done. I lived my entire life being stressed and worried about this. Like, from when I moved to Houston, I. Until poor minds became successful, I was always just working, hustling, hustling. I don't want to do that no more. So I think life is about balance. Like, yeah, I'm going to hustle, and I'm going to work my ass off when it comes to my job, but I'm also going to enjoy the fruits of my labor because I'm this age right now. I'm young and I'm happy and I'm healthy right now. This is when we're supposed to be doing it. This is when you enjoy everything. And I think I want the young people to know that. Work your ass off in your 20s, have fun, but also so when you get in your 30s, you can do things and have a balance. So I think that we can work our ass off. But when it comes to this show, I felt that for a while, too. I was like, I got to. I gotta be politically correct and I gotta say the right thing. I let that go. You know what? Y' all are showing up because y' all think me and Dre are funny. I can't stop being silly. I'm not gonna lose that. Because once you lose sight of that, then you Lose why people are here.

[Drea]

[Lex P]

So when the cameras turn on, we still gotta have fun. You know what I'm saying?

[Drea]

Well, don't get me wrong, for me, it's not that. Like, I don't think I've ever taken the show, like the actual being in front of the camera part super series. If anything, sometimes I be like, oh, damn, I probably shouldn't have said that.

[Lex P]

Yeah.

[Drea]

But so, yeah, I don't necessarily ever think that we need to be politically correct because I feel like this show was built off of fun and banter and having a good time and just two friends sitting down, kicking, talking and saying whatever. You know what I mean? That's what makes the show so organic. And I think that's what people with, is the fact that we don't try to make it look perfect and it's unfiltered and it's real and it's raw. I guess I more so mean behind the scenes.

Remember in Beyonce's song School of life, she said this is for them. 30 somethings that didn't turn out exactly how your mom, mom and daddy wanted you to be. Do you feel like you lived up to our girl Barb's expectations?

Yeah. Yeah, I think I've exceeded my mom's expectations for who she wanted me to be. I think at first, it was a little rocky.

I think she was like, what the are you doing? When I was in my 20s, like, I think she was like, okay, so you moved to Atlanta to the bartender. You was already bartending. What the fuck are you doing?

You could have stayed your ass in Houston and saved some money.

And stayed here, did the same shit. So I definitely think my mom was trying to figure out, like, where are you trying to take this? And obviously, because I did go to college and because, you know, my parents paid for me to go to school, I didn't get a scholarship. I didn't get free tuition or anything like that. Like, my parents was paying for me to go to school. Especially, like, the first two years now when I moved off campus, I was getting a little refund check. But the first two years, my parents was paying part of my tuition. So I definitely feel like my mom was like, what the fuck was me and your dad wasting all this fucking money on for you to graduate and decide you want to be a damn bartender and wear leotards on the weekends? Leah's hearts. What the fuck? So I think.

Who I guess, like, have met her and stuff at the Houston show, like, it doesn't happen often, but she was like, people have walked up to her and be like, oh, my God, your Dre is mom. And they just be, like, telling her how nice of a person I am and how well rounded I am. I remember she. I'm trying to remember where we went, but we went somewhere, and we took my mom, and she went to the restroom, and she had ran into some girls in the restroom that listen to the show, and they was just, like, raving about me. And then even when she was here, too, I don't think I've ever said these, but when she was up here, she was like, when she went to the restroom, and when she went to the kitchen and stuff, she was talking to, like, some of our staff, and, like, they was just like, oh yeah. I love Dreya. She's amazing. She's so kind. She's so sweet. And she was like, more than anything, that's what makes, makes her the proudest. It's like, it's cool that I'm becoming successful and I'm making a lot of money and all of those things, but what makes her the most proud is the person that she thinks she's raised as far as like the, the values that she's instilled in me and how kind I am and how caring I am and how giving I am. She was like, those are traits that money came by and she's glad that she instilled those things in me and it carried all the way through to adulthood because a lot of people instill that into their children and then when they become adults, they don't use any of the things that they was taught. So yeah, my mom tell me that all the time. I think that. And outside of my mom too, who is like obviously still living, but I think I'm like my ancestors wildest dreams. So no, I'm not really shocked. I don't think 21 year old me was. Would be shocked because that's all a part of the reason why I moved with no plan. I think you got to be a bold and audacious ass person to do that. Like to just pack your up and move from one state to another with no family, no friends and like just be like, oh, I know I'm gonna figure this out. I got it. I didn't have a plan. I didn't have a job. I moved here with somebody I knew for like four months. Very bold. I couldn't, I, I didn't. I wasn't like able to stay with nobody and like have time to figure out like I had to really get it out the mud when I moved out here, here. So, yeah, like, I always knew I was going to be straight.

Yeah, Pearl. How surprising. But I'm grateful nonetheless. But I don't know, I just think a lot of things come with and I hope, I always hope it doesn't sound like cocky, but I just think some people have like anointings on their life. And I've always felt that way about myself. Like, and again, not on no cocky. I think I'm special or better than other people or anything like that. But I really do think God has like an anointing on my life and I'm meant to do, do great things and I have like a major purpose. So even when it makes me uncomfortable sometimes being in the spotlight, because I don't necessarily think that that's what I thought that I would be doing because I'm so private. Like, I don't really like for people to be worried about what I got going on. But I think that when God puts you in certain positions, you have to recognize that he does it for a reason. And sometimes it's a bigger reason and a bigger purpose than what you realize at the time. But eventually it'll show itself.

Yeah. And sometimes I don't know that I figured that out yet. Like, I don't know that I've realized what exactly my purpose is, but I do think that this is a part of it.

Like, the first time we went on tour, and people walking up to us, crying, talking about, I didn't think I was gonna get through the day, but y' all just made me laugh, and that's just all I needed, just a little. And I'm like, sometimes that's all people need. If I can make you escape and feel good, if I can give you a little bit of advice or a little bit of guidance or whatever that you need to stick it out and stick it through, then that's my purpose. That's all I need. I really enjoy making people feel good. And I think for me, like, I think right now, like, if my mom were still here, I think my mom knew, like. Cause my mama used to be in the comments, arguing, damn. Fighting for her baby.

Oh, my Lord. I used to be like, mom, get out of 85 comments. I mean, she's being in the comments, going crazy. She did. So my mom was very in tune with social media, too. So I think at first she was like, what are you doing? No, this ain't it. But then when she, like. Cause my mom was always a fan of Carlos. So, like, once we started working with Carlos and she saw, like, we went on the show, she was like, oh, this is for real. Then we went on our first tour. It was like, oh, my goodness. Like, you know, So I think I'm just glad that she got to see, like, the start. Like, the start of it, you know? So I'm like. I think now she would be like, look at my girl. You know what I'm saying? So I think that I'm definitely meeting my mom's expectation, honestly, probably surpass them, because, I mean, she grew up in Orange, Texas, as I. So did I. People don't do anything out of orange, no shade. But when you live in Orange, Texas, you grow up, you either go work at the hospital or you go work at a plant. You find somebody that you graduated with, y' all get married, and then y' all do that. Y' all raise some old people that's finna work at the hospital. Go work at the plants. That's what happens? And so it was kinda like, okay, girl, which medical field you getting into? You know, you can move to Houston, but what medical field you getting into? What you gonna do? Like, something like that. So having the nerve, the gall to be like, I want to be in the entertainment industry. It's like, okay, be so for real. And it wasn't like she didn't necessarily believe in me. It was just like, how are you gonna do that? Cause we never saw that, you know? So I think she saw the start of it, but I think now she'll be like, oh my fucking God, what have you done? She would be probably living in my damn house right now. She's true. She would definitely be living with me right now.

For sure. I mean, I don't know. And I think, like, another valid point that I think a lot of people need to hear is like, you gotta be okay with disappointing your parents.

Oh, for sure.

When you own. Own path. Like, so many people, they want to make their parents happy. They feel like they have to do what they want them to do. Especially like when you come from certain lineages. Like if you come from like a family of doctors, or you come from a family of lawyers, or like you said, like your whole family, everybody have like, worked in the plant or whatever. So they like, oh, you need to work in the plant. You need to get these benefits. Get this 401k. That's a good living. But you have dreams and aspirations of being an entrepreneur. Chase your dreams, do what you want to do, and be okay with disappointing people. Cause this your motherfucking life. And you only get one life. And like, I say that as a person who went through that just because we are talking about our parents. Like, before my dad passed away, when I decided to move to Atlanta, before my dad got sick, he was so fucking mad at me.

He was.

I didn't know.

[Drea]

Like, we didn't talk. Like, he. He didn't talk to me for like the first few months that I moved here. And luckily we ended up starting back talking or whatever before he got sick. And we had a good relationship again. But like, for the first few months, he was really upset because I always talk about how, like, I was a daddy's girl. Like, me and my dad was so close and he was pissed. Like, my mom, she didn't want me to move to Atlanta, but my mom just kind of always more so being the parent out of my parents, that was like, this her life. She gonna do what she wanna do. Like, we can't control her. We just Gotta let her do what she wanna do. And my dad, he felt the same way. But it was never a situation where he felt like I wasn't gon around him and I was kind of being taken from him. Cuz with school it was a little bit different. I wasn't that far. And then I used to drive home all the time, but like moving to another state and then on top of that again, just not having a plan. I think he was just like, what are you doing? Like, what's the point? And he was pissed. He was like, that doesn't make any sense. And he just didn't understand it. But I did it anyways and look where you. And thank God I did because it worked out. And then he forgave me for it too. Because he came to realize, like, I this her life. I can't be mad at her for wanting to make decisions for herself. I raised her to be an independent thinker and now I'm mad because she doing it.

That's the same. My mom was pissed when I moved to. Oh, she was pissed. So how about you, Ty? Cause I know with your mom it's kind of the same situation. So how do you think your mom would look at you Now?

[Ty]

I know my mom is smiling down, like straight up. And I think I get confirmations every so often. Like, am I going in the right direction? Like, mom, I'll talk to her, but I do. But my mom, I was blessed enough for her to see me move to Atlanta, buy a house. She came down and visited me. She helped me decorate. That was something that made her the most proud. In that moment, in that time, I had a good job, all of these things. And to your point, once she passed, I felt like I shifted because I

didn't know I was lost.

I didn't know what to do. But I knew I wanted to find something that made me happy and made

[Drea]

me feel more fulfilled.

[Ty]

And so that's when I pivoted from insurance. So I know she's proud that I at least took her death to become where I'm at now. Like, I used that time to realize, like, life is short because my mom was under 50 when she passed. Life is short. Live for you. Go do what you want to do. Move abroad, do what you want to do. Have fun, bartend.

pissed when I left corporate to bartender. They thought I lost my. They thought I was Kanye.

But I think now that they see kind of where I'm at as an entrepreneur on the show working with Crown, like they see, like it all makes sense now. My question is, if you're just getting to know a man and he casually mentions he's in therapy, is that automatically a green flag to you or does it make you pause? Now take it a step further. He later shares that he's been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but is medicated and actively managing it. Would you still consider dating him seriously or is that something you'd quietly bow out over? At what point does he self aware and doing the work outweigh the label? That's a good question.

For me personally, I don't think that it's a reason that I just would automatically dismiss dating somebody, but it would, it would put my guards up a little bit though. Just because you've been diagnosed with a mental disorder.

So if there ever comes to a time where you just decide that you want to stop taking this medication or you want to stop doing the things that's making you be the way that you've been since I met you, I don't know that I have the capacity to deal with that. And I don't know what that's going to look like. And that also scares me a little bit too because I think when people have mental disorders and people have mental issues, it's a little bit different from you just like being upset and acting out and being in a fit of rage. Like you have less control over these things when it's like a chemical imbalance.

So yeah, that would, that would scare me a little bit because I think that it's something that has to be monitored and managed. And managed. Right. Most importantly, managed. And then if it's not being managed, what might come with it?

But I also wanna say that I appreciate his honesty of even telling you. Cause a lot of people will try to hide it. But I also think we need to stop thinking that it's an automatic green flag just because somebody's in therapy. I think therapy honestly should be like, oh cool, you're in therapy. Because a lot of people will put on the cloak. Like a lot of people say they in therapy and they're not. And a lot of people are in therapy to learn how to gaslight.

You know how many times I see people go on a podcast or go online and literally regurgitate information. Oh, my therapist said. And try to make it seem like they've done the work and then you maybe get to know this person and They're. They're still fucked. They're still. You're not a good person. You're just trying to act like you are so you learn how to manipulate people. It's really sick. That's narcissism.

Yes to the T. So I think that it's good to be in therapy. But if a man tells me he's in therapy, that's not just an automatic green flag. Now I'll be like, that's. I'm glad you are. It's not a red flag. But it's also not a green flag to me either because therapy is a never ending journey. And even me, I've been in therapy for years. I'm still fucked up. There's no like, oh, you're in therapy. That means you're a green light and you're a great person. Cause I still have my fucked up ways. I still have a long way to go.

I will give somebody points, a green flag for recognizing their issues and actively working on them. You know what I'm saying? So I think for. In this situation, I will give him points. Yes, for being honest. And I think that I think you should date him now. When something happens, that's a conversation that y' all need to have and you need to. You need to be able to gauge what you can handle and what you can't. Cause we don't know what bipolar is. So many things. Sometimes it's anger, sometimes it's sadness, sometimes it's distance. We don't. I'm not a doctor, we can't say what his is specifically because it looks so different on each and every person. So I think for her, I think I can commend him for being honest with you. So I think he does deserve a chance. But I think you just see, see how it goes. Cause niggas, there's so many things that they have things going wrong with them.
