“The Covenant of Peace”

Ezekiel 37:26

I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever."

Ezekiel 37 opens with the famous vision of the Valley of Dry Bones. God takes Ezekiel to a valley filled with scattered, completely dry bones, symbolizing the nationof Israel in Babylonian exile. The people felt cut off, hopeless, and spiritually "dead." After God miraculously breathes life back into these bones, transforming them into a living army, He speaks verse 26 to seal His ultimate plan for them. God is telling a broken, exiled people: Your current ruin is not your final destination.

The chapters leading up to this verse paint one of the most famous, visceral pictures in Scripture: a valley of dry, scattered bones. It’s a vivid image of absolute hopelessness, representing a people who felt cut off, dried up, and completely shattered by their circumstances. But God doesn't leave them in thedust. He breathes new life into the bones, knits them back together, and then delivers the ultimate promise found in verse 26. He doesn't just offer a temporary fix or a fleeting moment of relief. He promises a covenant of peace —a deep, holistic well-being, wholeness, and reconciliation that isn't dependent on shifting circumstances.

Notice the progression of God's promise here. He establishes as He provides a firm, unshakeable foundation where there was once chaos and ruin. Hemultiplies and brings growth and fruitfulness out of barrenness. He places His sanctuary and dwells—His personal presence—right in the middle of them forever.

When you feel like you are walking through your own valley of dry bones—whether due to an exhausting season, broken relationships, or internal anxiety—remember that God’s ultimate blueprint for your life is not destruction, but restoration. His peace isn't just the absence of conflict; it is the presence of the Living God establishing Himself in the very center of your story.

Ezekiel 37:26 is God’s absolute guarantee that no matter how broken, scattered, or spiritually dead a situation looks, He possesses the ultimate authority torestore it, anchor it in His peace, and make it His permanent dwelling place.

Are you anchoring your peace to your current circumstances, or to the "everlasting" promise of God? Circumstances shift, but His covenant does not. Actively invite God's presence into the messy, unestablished parts of your day today. Let His peace guard your mind when anxiety tries to reclaim territory.
